Driver side airbag light always on and cruise control not working due to a steering power cable damage and needing replaced.
The contact owns a 2009 toyota sienna. The contact stated that while driving 60 mph, another vehicle crashed into their vehicle at a 45 degree angle from the front. The front passenger seat belt was secured at the waist but did not stop the passenger from flying forward and sustaining injuries to the head and abrasions near the eyes. The police were contacted and a report was filed. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where they advised the contact that the vehicle was destroyed. The manufacturer had not been contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 73,000.
Passenger airbag light on when seat is occupied.
The car accelerated to 68.4 mph. I could not stop car first time with abs brakes. I took my foot off the brake and it helped but it was too late. The car hit the tree. The sienna's brakes did not work properly at first, the car so how went from 30 mph to 68.4 mph and the steering did not work. Something has to be done when 1.2 million dollars of damage to a family. Luckily metropolitan and aetna limited the health care personals. The car was damaged beyond repair. We have new friends called collections companies. Please do not buy toyota. The corporation considers the accident not their fault.
Takata recall ! iwas driving toyota sienna on local street in boca raton when car had unexplained acceleration. Car struck a tree which caused the air bags to react. I had airbags stuffing in my lungs with contusion and in my intestines. My son had a bad contusion on right side from side airbag. My wife had to spend 17 days in a hospital because contusion on lungs and multiple bones. The forcenot her out of her seat on floor. Her seat belt cut into her abdomen. She almost died from injuries and incompetent medical care. My daughter was saved from severe injury because the side airbag did not function. This was a terrible holiday gift.
The contact owns a 2009 toyota sienna. The contact was driving 45 mph when a vehicle crashed into the front driver side of the contact's vehicle.the air bags did not deploy and the doors became stuck and could not be opened.the driver and two passengers were transported to the hospital and a police report was filed.the vehicle was in the process of being diagnosed and repaired.the failure and the current mileage was 74,000.
The airbag like came on and has not gone off. Had mechanic check it and was told that the squib circuit had a short and that if in an accidentairbags will not deploy. Dealer said it could cost up to $2600 to fix. After some research, i have found that there are a lot of other sienna owners with this same problem. Why has toyota not recalled this, because it sounds like a manufacturing issue and consumer should not have to pay that kind of money for there faulty product. Now because of this faulty equipment i have no choice but to drive an unsafe vehicle because i can not afford that kind of money to repair.
The contact owns a 2009 toyota sienna. The contact stated that the driver attempted to merge into traffic when a vehicle crashed into the front end of the contacts vehicle. The front passengers side seat belt failed to restrain and the air bag failed to deploy.the front passenger sustained lacerations to the forehead when his head struck the dashboard. The rear passenger sustained seat belt burns across the chest. The driver received burns and bruises to the chest. The manufactured was contacted and a complaint was filed. The vehicle was destroyed. The failure and the current mileage was 74,000.
The contact owns a 2009 toyota sienna. While operating the vehicle, the air bag sensor would flash off and on indicating that the air bag system was faulty. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 109,000.
Car had unexplained acceleration. Car had solenoid recall repair. Car would surge forward slightly until accident caused it to go out of control. Also, takata recall. Car was filled with air bag material and side air bags caused almost fatal injury to my wife and severe injury to my son. Car was traveling on side street traveling around 30 miles per hour until it sped up to 68.4 mph..
2009 toyota sienna with 134k mileage has srs warning light on all of a sudden and stays on.toyota dealer would charge me for diagnosing and charge me if any further jobs need to be done.shouldn't this be recalled and handled without any charge to owners as it's matter of safety issue?
On 12/25/14 the toyota sienna had unexplained acceleration and hit a tree at 31 mph. My wife and son had right side lung contusions. My wife had an open wound from the seat belt. Since she was restrained that well she had a broken left leg and a right clavicle fracture that required surgeries. My wife almost died in delray beach medical center due to blood loss and poor medical attention. We know the seat belt did not work well because the rest of us were able to walk away from the crash. My wife is still suffering and realized from the american council safety lessons that her seat belt did not function correctly and the side bags are dangerous.
Was hit almost in a t-bone fashion, other driver was going approximately 40-50 mph. No side curtain airbags deployed. Concerned about this and when contacted by toyota, the woman said that i didn't know what i was talking about and when we bought it they were just trying to sell us a car. Car has significant damage and has been in a shop for two weeks.
The contact owns a 2009 toyota sienna. While driving at an unknown speed, the air bag warning indicator illuminated intermittently, which was a safety concern. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact they would work with him, but the contact had not heard back from the manufacturer. The failure mileage was approximately 130,000.
Power doors not working will not open or close on auto all the timeor on manual now drivers side cables have broke.
2009 toyota sienna, drivers side rear passenger door cable broke and initially left the door in the open position in a mall parking lot. Once closed manually to travel home, the door was left jammed in the closed position until we arrived home. I had to cut the cable assembly out to simply remove the safety hazard for my 3 young daughters. Attempted to have the door repaired at a local shop which was unable and checked with toyota themselves. Toyota's response was that the new cable/motor assembly was upgraded and only available through toyota for $1300(+labor),i contacted toyota corporate who helped minimally with the bill to get it fixed. Still costs me over $1100 to get a functioning door and remove a huge safety concern on a vehicle where i paid initially for the feature.
Usually moving between 25- 45 mph. On any road. The vsc, traction control, and check engine light come on. For no reason this happens quite often daily. I have looked inti this and numerous, numerous people experience tge same problem
Both sliding door cables have broken under normal use and were previously replaced by toyota. The genuine toyota replacement cable on the driver side has broken a second time, including damaging the motor assembly. The door does not open or close properly and temporarily trapped my daughter inside who did not know how to open the door besides using the door open buttons and handle. One daughter was standing outside the vehicle when the cable snapped and it nearly cut her neck (it came about 2 inches from her neck when it snapped out of the track). This is a known issue at toyota where the plastic coating breaks allowing the cable to rust. Having inoperative or improperly operating doors creates a significant safety risk, including vehicle entrapment and inability to enter/egress from the non-traffic side of the roadway.
The rubber from back door melted since i live in tropical island and there is a lot of heat.the plastic base for the antena broke, i gues the heat cracked the plastic base, and the cell charger doesn't work, though i have hardly used it. I seems like it gets out of position easily.overall, the plastic features are giving me a hard time. I love my sienna and it's in very good condition, but these problems don't have to do with use.
The rear passenger door recently began to open on its own randomly when driving, something may be wrong with the latch, it is not hooking/engaging to the car frame. My wife made a left turn yesterday and the passenger rear door slid open, luckily my 7 year old son was buckled in. Also, the cables to the driver side rear sliding doors popped off about a year ago, believe it was due to rust/corrosion...
The cables that enable the side doors to open both snapped within 2 weeks of each other.both occurred while trying to open the doors with the power button.the doors are unable to be opened without being repaired.
Sliding side doors open on own.button fails to engage preventing door from closing.happened multiple times after pulling into a parking spot and putting the car in park.both times it has been the passenger side sliding door.
In late 2016, the driver side rear sliding door powered cable/motor assembly broke.in april 2017, the passenger side rear sliding door powered cable/motor assembly broke.toyota refuses to cover the costs of the repair.the door in 2017 broke jammed in the open position, requiring assistance to close it to get home with children in the car.once closed, the door would not open, causing a safety concern.the vehicle was in a parking lot when this occurred.
Left automatic sliding door cable snapped after the right door cable snapped two months prior right after warranty expired. Toyota fixed the first problem but will not fix the other door and wants $2000 to fix it. The car is only 5 years old and toyota knows this is an issue but will not help. This is not right. My child was seat belted in when the cable snapped and it whipped around and almost hit her in the head. This is very serious and toyota needs to make it right.
Drove of f one day and heard beep beep with the hazard light on. Pulled over and could not figure out what was the problem. The door was open. What? tried to close it the button, then had to slam door shut.the left sliding doors has stopped working.the cord got frayed and dry and just broke off one day. I had to force close the door and my kids now have to use ony one door. Now i see the second door is acting the same. Very disappointed and sad and afraid. A big safety issue. Is there a recall.
To whom it may concern: regarding customer support program (zts): warranty enhancement for rear sliding door latch assemblies on certain 2004-2010my sienna vehicles and power sliding door cable assembly on certain 2004-2007my sienna vehicles.i am here to tell you that my 2009 sienna should have been covered by this warranty extension. A few years ago our cable snapped on the driver side door. I was told by my dealer and toyota customer service that my model year was not covered by the able assembly issue. I was quoted approximately $2k for this repair. Well, with the craziness of the pandemic, i decided to do this repair myself. I purchased the attached parts list in the scan myself. As you can see from the images: there are screws missing around the pulley system, the cable cracked the housing and proceeded to tear up the sound insulation. Thankfully the cable did not harm any other key areas of the door. This blatant disregard for the 2009 model year is extremely disappointing. I am sure there are other owners with the same issue.
Power sliding door cable failed/faulty. Risk of injury and safety. Toyota unwilling to repair under warranty. Sliding door inoperable - can't exit vehicle on side where door cable broke. This is a widely known and widely experienced safety defect across 6 years of toyota sienna that should be the subject of a federal recall.
The cable in both rear sliding doors snapped in two. The doors are latched closed and will not open electronically ormanually, requiring any rear passengers to enter and exit through the front passenger door and climb in to the back seats. Again, the doors are closed fast and won't open using either manual or power modes. I am unable to transport my children due to safety concerns that if we were involved in an accident i could not remove them from the car. While there are several instances of this problem on internet chat forums, toyota is not addressing the problem. The cost to repair one door is $1,700, making the repair total for both doors an incredible $3,400. I have contacted toyota and there is no recall or help for the repair. This amount is nearly the market worth of the total vehicle.
The side automatic door cable snapped. If my child was in his seat he would have been injured bad. The tension on this was tremendous. All my wife did was open the door. We have a 2009 sienna awd and have maintained it per toyota instructions.toyota wants $1100 plus $300 do diagnose the problem. This is just wrong. Please help. The cable was hanging where my son would be sitting.
The contact owned a 2009 toyota sienna. The contact stated that while parked, the driver's side electric door panel caught fire. The vehicle was destroyed. The police and fire department were contacted and a report was on file. The failure caused no injuries. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was contacted. The failure and current mileages were 40,000.
During active driving, the vehicle stalls and the power steering and braking components no longer function.on one occasion, this was on a residential street and the second on a busier street.the second occasion occurred on a hill and the emergency brake was necessary to stop the car.the vehicle was brought to be serviced and no cause for the malfunction was identified.we are now asked to resume driving of the car without any repair.
My 2009 sienna van sliding door will not open.
Power sliding door cable failure that pulls the door open. Nine opened about 6 inches they stopped as if it hit something. Had to break the cable to get door open
Passenger side sliding door stopped working and the beeper is on at all times.local dealer stated that the cost of repair would be up to $3300.00.is there a more cost effective option for me?
Driver's side power back door cable snapped while the car was stationary in the driveway.pressed the button to open door and heard the snap. Latch works but door won't open unless you open it manually.76,000 mi. Toyota sienna '09.there is csp that covers this cable for 2004-2007 models that was made in 2012.the csp needs to be updated to include the more recent model vehicles as the problem still exists.dealerships are charging $2400 to replace it.the auto doors were the main reason i bought this vehicle. With at least another yrs on this vehicle left, i am extremely upset that this isn't covered.this is not a user error.
Passenger power sliding door cable broke.
I was driving my sienna on a 2 lane town road and without warning smelled smoke.as i was pulling over cars in the oncoming lane were honking at me as they saw the fire underneath where the engine is.when i pulled over smoke entered into the car.i stepped out, heard a pop, and now the entire front of the car was full on fire.the fire department arrived on scene quickly and extinguished the fire.i filed an incident report with toyota.i received a call from a man saying he was hired by toyota to investigate the fire and report back to them.to date, i have received zero communication from anyone at toyota regarding this serious matter.
I have a 2009 sienna with less than 90,000 miles on it. The sliding door cable suddenly snapped and i was stuck with the door not functioning at all. It was stuck half open. I had to use considerable force to shut it. The cable exhibits corrosion upon visual inspection. Based on the amount of complaints this seems to be a consistent issue with siennas. Toyota dealership is asking for about $1800 to fix it.
The rear passenger side sliding door cable and motor assembly on the toyota sienna failed, causing the door to become completely inoperative (cannot open nor close) and the broken cable nearly cut my wife as it broke under tension and came flying out toward her as she was trying to close the door normally. The cable and motor had been replaced in 2015. The cable and motor on the rear driver side sliding door was also replaced in 2013 and 2017. The problem was confirmed by woburn toyota (dealer) and reported to the manufacturer. The manufacturer has confirmed the failure and safety defect, but refuses to provide repairs. No warnings were provided, no recall was issued, and customers were not notified of internal safety bulletin pol12-02 issued by toyota.
On dry pavement driving about 35-40 miles an hour the vsc traction sensor came on lights and sound and hit my brakes my steering went to the right i almost got in an accident this is the third time this has happened and they can't figure out what's wrong with it.

After driving the vehicle approximately 10 miles, a jerking can be felt, and shortly the check engine, vsc, and trak lights come on.continued driving sometimes results in jerking and/or loss of acceleration, including loss of vehicle movement control.the loss of acceleration typically occurs during a turn or in stop-and-go traffic.the situation has occurred to a lesser degree in highway traffic when passing other vehicles.any of these situations is of concern, but especially the loss of acceleration because of the potential for other vehicles to crash in to us.this has occurred on various dates over the last approximately six (6) months.have had communication with our local toyota dealer service department, toyota corporate customer service, and a non-toyota auto repair shop; all to no avail.none of them have been able to tell me what the real problem and how to fix it for sure.
2gr-fe engine: cylinder # 2 valve spring broke.
2009 toyota sienna. Consumer writes in regards to vehicle fire *tgwthe consumer's insurance company determined that oil leaked from a faulty valve and seal in the manifold cover.however, toyota provided a different explanation as to how the vehicle caught on fire. They stated the fire was caused by spilled oil and overfilling of oil. Toyota stated they have a photo of the dip stick proving that the oil was overfilled, but refused to provide the picture.

While driving down a very steep narrow unpaved drive the engine stopped.all lights on the dash remained on battery light was on. Steering was very difficult and the breaks were stiff.when i came to a stop i restarted the engine.
The oil cooling hose popped while driving car. Apparently there was a recall/service bulletin for this issue involving other toyota and lexus vehicles. For some reason there was none issued for this vehicle.now there is engine damage.toyota dropped the ball on this one. They need to be held liable for the damage.
The car had an alignment problem after 5000 miles. Firestone always aligned the wheels but 1 went through 3 sets of tires. The car would speed up the last couple of months after i took my foot off the gas pedal. The brakes seemed to work but they just did not seem right. I noticed the day after i drove the rav4 the difference form the sienna. The rave 4 also jerks sometimes when i step on the gas pedal.
I had a catastrophic oil leak all over my driveway and garage. Reseached history of this type and found it was it was a rubber hose associated with oil transfer (also called the v v t 1 actuator hose.a voluntary recall on this part ended in 2013. I will have it fixed by a local car repair shop but if this is a known part failure for years, why would toyota not make a mandatory recall of this faulty part? my 2009 toyota sienna which i just purchased 2 months ago will now have a major car repair.

2009 toyota sienna minivan developed corroded rear air-conditioning lines after only 4 years.corrosion caused complete loss of a/c coolant. It cost me $118 to have the a/c system tested only to find out that it will cost me another $1578 to repair the problem...and there's no guarantee that this won't happen again in another 4 years.dealership won't help.toyota corporate won't help.it is a scam that they use untreated aluminum a/c lines that they admit are prone to corrosion in northern climates where salt is used on the roads.easy fix: paint the a/c lines!toyota won't offer any help whatsoever!i have found an emotional state beyond rage.
2009 toyota sienna.consumer writes in regards to engine overheating.the consumer stated he replaced the fan relay and thermostat.however, the vehicle continued to overheat. The dealer replaced the radiator and water pump, but the overheating continued. The dealer informed the consumer they looked into the cylinders with a borescope and saw marks on the cylinder wall which lead them to the conclusion that the head gaskets were bad and they would have to be removed and sent to a machine shop to see if they were warped and the cylinders and engine block would have to be inspected to see if there was an issue.
The contact owns a 2009 toyota sienna.the contact started the vehicle and there was an excessively loud rattling noise in the engine compartment.in addition, an odor of anti-freeze circulated inside of the vehicle. The failure only occurred when the vehicle was started. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer.the vehicle was not inspected or repaired for the malfunction.the failure mileage was 3,000.
I have a 2009 toyota sienna with about 37800 miles on the engine. This is a certified pre-owned toyota and i bought it with approximately 33000 miles on it in november of 2010. At about 37000 i noticed a ticking noise coming from the engine at idle. It starts after the engine warms up; mostly after driving about 15 minutes. I took it to a toyota dealer for a diagnosis and the dealer stated they heard it and it's only normal engine sound. There is a tsb 0094-09 that addresses the issue. However, my vehicle does not fall within the affected production change effective vin according to the toyota dealer. As a matter of fact my sienna was manufactured about 2000 vehicles after the affected production change effective vin. I believe the problems related to tsb 0094-09 still exist beyond the affected vins in the tsb. Toyota should really fix these problems. The engine loud ticking noise that is easily noticed is not normal.
I wish to report two separate gas pedal incidents involving my 2009 toyota sienna xle van that occurred on the same day.on this day, i made a trip from my residence to a local golf course and about 3 hours later i returned to my residence. On my way to the golf course, i was traveling in a housing area at about 20 mph when i took my foot off of the gas pedal to slow down but the car continued at the same or slightly faster speed of about 25 mph.the car should have easily slowed down because at this time i was going up a slight incline in the road.i had to firmly apply my brakes to slow down the car and i immediately parked the car within about 200-300 yards of the incident.about 3 hours later, i drove the car back to my residence.i stopped at a stop sign and then started to drive to our residence (we have a rented unit in a gated residential area) at the posted speed of 15 mph.as i reached 15 mph, i took my foot off the accelerator but the car continued to speed up to about 25 mph. I had to immediately apply the brakes and i also downshifted the transmission to 1st gear.i parked the car but did notice, before i turned the key off, that the engine rpms in the stopped position were about 1000 to 1100. It was not at the idle speed of about 700 rpms where it should have been when stopped.something prevented the accelerator from returning to normal.these two events both occurred on saturday march 6, 2010.i took the car to the toyota of the desert dealership in cathedral city, california, on monday march 8, 2010.they checked the car over and told me that they could not find anything wrong.we also took a test drive which was equally uneventful.my wife and i are extremely concerned about our safety when driving this car.why is there no recall of our toyota sienna?we darn sure have a problem!
I've seen that toyota is recalling many vehicles because of loose driver's side floormats, but not the sienna minivan.after i heard about the problem i noticed that both clips holding the driver's floor mat back had come loose and the mat had slid several inches toward the front of the vehicle. I think i just never thought much about it until i saw this recall and what happened to that poor family. I had to snap the plastic retention clips back into the grommet holes, but i wonder if this is happening on other cars as well, and if so, why wasn't sienna involved in the recall?
Highbeams on headlamps work intermittently.can usually flick them in the correct switch position, so i know the bulbs are working.low beams working.but highbeams frequently do not work in the correct switch position, as described in the vehicle manual.occasionally they do work, but i never know when that will be.on long trips at night, i have no highbeams as a result of this malfunction.
Geico claim number: [xxx]february 7, 2011to whom it may concern: note, this is the second time i'm filing to update my address.on october 18, 2010 my 2009 toyota sienna dashboard vsc (variable skid control)/off track and check engine lights illuminated.i took my van in for service immediately.the dealership made repairs that were covered under warranty, and assured me that the van was safe to drive (a copy of the invoice from that service is attached for your reference). On november 24, 2010, the same vsc/off track and check engine lights illuminated again.when i returned to my local dealership for service, i was informed that due to the thanksgiving holiday, the service department did not have availability until november 30, 2010.service advisor assured me that my vehicle was safe to drive, as long as i stayed in town, and wasn't planning on taking the car on any long trips.however, i never got a chance to return my van to the dealership because on november 29, 2010 it started to make unusually loud noises and accelerated unexpectedly.naturally, i attempted to stop by braking, but the brakes were not functioning at all.i tried again and again to brake, but to my disappointment the brake pedal did nothing, no matter how much i pumped it.luckily, i was able to avoid hitting any pedestrians or cars by steering up the curb and into a lamppost.the van continued to accelerate uncontrollably until it finally came to rest on the steps of the county courthouse! information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
We were backing out of a parking place at the hot springs village walmart.the van accelerated on its own, then the brakes failed.no amount of pressure would stop the van.we stopped by hitting a parked car, doing some damage to it.we had the van towed to a body shop to have the exterior repaired.we were afraid to drive it. After being repaired, we had it towed to lander's in little rock where it was pronounced safe to drive.a few weeks later we sold it and bought a 2011 toyota sienna van.(an accident report will follow on the 2011 toyota van vin#[xxx])information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
Body- at 112,000 miles, driver's side sliding door wire snapped from normal use. Inferior material and or design alleged.fuel itemcharcoal canister, oil control valve, and oxygen sensor failure at 116,000 miles.
I was driving my 2009 toyota sienna with 2 children in the back and when i went over rail road tracks the sliding door on the passenger side opened.this is a great concern for me especially with the kids in the back.toyota want $1500 to fix this problem on a 2009 with 47,000 miles on it.there should be something that will make them fix this problem.i know it would be a major recall but the safety that goes along with this is an extreme concern!!!!!this van cost me over $35,000 and the only reason i bought it was because of the safety of the van.well that was a mistake and the service department at toyota is looking to make money off me.i am a single mom who can hardly keep up with everything else but this is just wrong, and i think our government should force them to do something about this before kids start falling out of the vans onto the streets and getting fun over!!!please help me!
I have a 2009 toyota sienna mini-van with automatic sliding doors. These doors are an accident waiting to happen. Unlike an elevator door that will immediately reverse if someone or something is in its path. The sienna's doors continue to close unless forcibly pushed back to retract with a serious amount of strength. My arm has been bruised and i could only imagine a child's hand being caught.it's inconceivable to me how these doors do not operate on the same premise as an elevator. Very dangerous!
My 2009 toyota sienna won't unlock! when i use both my remotes, it will only open the driver's door. Even when i open the driver door, and try to use the unlockbutton to unlock the doors, the doors will not unlock. I have to physically unlock the doors, including the slider doors. It has been in the shop twice, and they don't know why it is doing that. Recently the slider doors stopped opening! it defeats the purpose of having a van, if you can only get in through the driver seat, especially when you have a disabled child, a two year old, and another child. Toyota, has been horrible, in trying to get this resolved. The customer service in the service department, don't care, horrible customer service and nothing gets resolved.
2009 toyota sienna - raised the power rear hatch to load luggage. Was under the hatch when it started to automatically close on me. I had to use force for it not to close on me. Not sure what would have happened if it was a child putting something in the back. I don't think a young child could have stopped it from squeezing them. It would not stay open unless we manually held it. Had to manually hold it open the whole week of vacation. When returned, took it into the dealerthe struts were bad and they replaced them under warranty. Works fine now.
The contact owns a 2009 toyota sienna. On several occasions, while driving, the driver's side power slider door opened without warning. The vehicle was taken to woburn toyota (394 washington st, woburn, ma 01801 (781) 933-1100) where it was diagnosed that the latches needed to be replaced. The contact stated that the cables were snipped, making the doors manual. The contact stated a few months later, the passenger side slider door inadvertently opened and closed. The manufacturer stated that the vehicle was not covered and did not offer any further assistance. The approximate failure mileage was 130,000. The vin was unavailable.
Car was traveling on side street traveling around 30 miles per hour until it sped up to 68.4 mph..
Oil cooler line failure:while driving on a state route in a rural area my oil cooler line ruptured in my 2009 toyota sienna, resulting in major loss of engine oil, thus being stranded in a rural area and requiring a tow.the metal oil line was constructed with a section of rubber in the middle which deteriorates and fails.toyota has been aware of this issue for years, and first changed the rubber composition in a replacement part but this part still had a significant failure rate.so the current replacement is all metal line.why would you have a rubber section in an oil line?obviously the first two designed parts were a very poor design.toyota issued an extended warranty for siennas for 10 years and 150,000 miles but this has since expired.i was never notified of the extended warranty.why expire a warranty if the vehicle is still within the parameters ofthe warranty (10 years or 150,000 miles)?toyota says this is not a safety issue.but as a retired corporate safety manager/engineer with a major tire manufacturer i disagree.there are potential fire issues from oil being sprayed on a hot engine/exhaust, a roadside accident potential especially if you suddenly lost oil where you couldn't pull off and the motor seized, and a security issue depending on when and where you break down. What if you had little kids and broke down in a rural area (no heat).i will end up paying $94 for a tow, $500 to fix, and 4-7 days car rental to fix.but my biggest concern is the safety issue.
Our 2009 sienna may have had a sudden acceleration problem. When the car was put into reverse, a sudden acceleration sent it down our driveway. Situation: pulling into the carport, which involves a 90 degree turn at the top of a short (10m) steep narrow walled easement, the driver of the sienna could not make the turn in one motion and was required to put the sienna in reverse at which time the minivan suddenly accelerated, squealing its wheels. The result was a 5m careen down the driveway. The result was about $4,000 body damage, but no injury to the driver or my 2yr old daughter - although all were shaken. We have since got rid of the car - traded it for a 2010 highlander.
Front seat belts are jamming and folding at mechanism where belt should release at shoulder adjustment point from the interior side wall of the van. The driver is left with a completely extended lap and shoulder belt, rendering the safety device useless. The combination of an air bag with a faulty seat belt mechanism is deadly.this vehicle's defect over multiple model years has been well-documented and is a major safety hazard.
The contact owns a 2009 toyota siennathe contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, the driver side middle seat abruptly flipped forward onto a child, causing the child to sustain a broken leg.the vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was contacted but the vehicle was not repaired.the failure mileage was 44,000 and the current mileage was 44,356.
The middle seat in the second row of seating slammed down onto my 10 year old son's hand and severely broke and mangled his finger.he required surgery at a children's hospital the next day to repair it.the first and third seats in the second row shut and lock into the floor relatively safely, but the middle seat slams down like a guillotine.the car was parked and my son was helping clean it out.
While driving down a very steep narrow unpaved drive the engine stopped.all lights on the dash remained on battery light was on. Steering was very difficult and the breaks were stiff.when i came to a stop i restarted the engine.
On dry pavement driving about 35-40 miles an hour the vsc traction sensor came on lights and sound and hit my brakes my steering went to the right i almost got in an accident this is the third time this has happened and they can't figure out what's wrong with it.
On july 29, 2010 at 5pmmy wife parked her car in front my house on colesville road, facing the road approximately 23 feet from the sidewalk and 30 feet from the street. I had been asked by my wife to drive to the airport. We closed the doors, put on the seat belts, put my foot on the brakes and shifted the gear shaft to drive. Then i released the parking brake, the car start rolling slowly by the time i was moving my foot to the gasoline pedal gently, the car kept rolling , the gas pedal failed to accelerate the engine. I put my right foot on the brake, the brake failed completely. I tried to pump the break to stop the car without success. Suddenly, i found my self entering the busy street and cars rushing toward me. Trying to turn right and push the gasoline pedalto keep up with traffic, the car kept rolling slowly and the car never accelerated. "the gas pedal failed to accelerate as there was no gas pedal". Until i reached the right lane from the second lane, i shifted the transmission to neutral the car slowed and pushed the parking brake to stop. Then i changing transmission to the parking position. The whole traffic stopped, then i tried again to shift the transmission to drive and pushed the gas pedal which resumed its function and the brake too.when i entered colesville road the traffic was rushing, specially on the first lane where first lane car approaching my car, the driverstarted honking and swerved drasticallyaround my car to the second and third lane to avoid hitting me. The following cars and the whole traffic stopped until i moved to the first lane and resumed moving. It was a horrible and scary experience with my wife and the two years granddaughter screaming and panicking. I called the dealer, the only advise i got was to get an appointment and look at the car. Tonight i took the car to the dealer.
Abs brake in sienna doesn't stop when light snow or rain on road. I pressed my brake pedal and the vehicle would not stop. It is very traumatic experience. I am afraid that it will result in a serious accented for someone someday. The sienna is year 2009 2wd * psgr
Driver's side power steering leak.toyota dealership determined a need to replace the power steering rack, plus fluid and a 4 wheel alignment.total cost of parts and labor was $1397.87.appears this is a common problem with this model, make and year vehicle.
The dealer (american toyota located in albuquerque, nm) has advised during a scheduled service on the minivan that the rack and pinion needs to be replaced because it is leaking.the car has 41124 miles on it, and the estimated cost of the repair is $1093.00.i looked this problem up on the internet and it sounds common to this model.i have never had this problem on any other vehicle that i have owned, so i was wondering if it was something that might be covered by a recall.
Toyota 2009 sienna le 2wd power steering rack & pinion seal failed and leaked on the passenger side at 85,000 miles. The rack boot also tore broken. Repair cost is estimated at approximately $1,300. Numerous complaints are posted by owners on the internet all pointing to the same defect. If drivers are unaware, or if the defect is not resolved, power steering could freeze and potentially cause life threating situations.
Toyota dealer said the rack and pinion steering unit was leaking had to be repaired, at a very high cost.looking online, i find that a lot of other people have had this issue, but there has been no recall.apparently most people do not know how to report such issues.there is no reason why a vehicle only five years old should be having this problem.i would suspect that newer and older models may also be affected.
A dealership inspection on august 30, 2017, on my 2009 sienna van with 76,096 miles on it i was told the power steering unit was leaking and needed to be replaced.the cost would be 1014.98 plus alignment, shop fees, and taxes.my daughter has a 2010 sienna van with over 100,00 miles and has not had that problem.something is amiss with toyota and their steering system.i have done some research and found that the steering leakage seems to be a common.
Bought my 09 sienna new.at 28,000 miles, had to have the rack and pinion steering shaft replaced due to leaking.at round 60,000 miles, informed once again that my rack and pinion steering shaft is leaking and will need replaced at a price of $1,300.00.how can a car that we average less than 8,000 miles a year go through steering shafts like this?
The car had an alignment problem after 5000 miles. Firestone always aligned the wheels but 1 went through 3 sets of tires. The car would speed up the last couple of months after i took my foot off the gas pedal. The brakes seemed to work but they just did not seem right. I noticed the day after i drove the rav4 the difference form the sienna. The rave 4 also jerks sometimes when i step on the gas pedal.
Intermittent loss of power steering while driving. The problem with this 5 year old vehicle with 75,000 miles is similar to what happened with older model year siennas: a power steering fluid leak develops that ultimately requires a complete replacement of the power steering rack. Toyota refuses to pay for repair or replacement of an obviously defective design/part.
Went to dealership for an alignment, car drifted to the left. They told me the steering shaft was very worn and had to be replaced. Had to install a new steering intermediate shaft and shaft assembly. This was covered under my extended warranty, but there is no way a steering shaft should be worn out at 30000 miles! there has to be a defect in the steering shaft. Lucky, i had the alignment done before my planned 700 mile trip.
While driving down a very steep narrow unpaved drive the engine stopped.all lights on the dash remained on battery light was on. Steering was very difficult and the breaks were stiff.when i came to a stop i restarted the engine.
2009 toyota sienna. Consumer writes in regards to iowa being included in toyota recall regarding corrosion of the spare tire carrier cable.*tgw
2009 toyota sienna.consumer writes in regards to excessive corrosion of the spare tire carrier cable recall notice issues.the consumer stated it has been nine months, since she first received the interim notice.the dealer informed her, there was solution for the problem and to remove the spare tire for now.
Melting dashboard.
Hi,i bought a toyota sienna 2wd in 2009. Toyota had a recall on the minivans due to the malfunctioning of the spare tire in cold climates, but did not include iowa in it. They have not sent any communication in this regards to end customers.updated ivoq 08/05/10updated ivoq 08/31/10
Dashboard has become sticky and is cracking.
The contact owns a 2009 toyota sienna.the contact stated that while approximately driving at 45 mph, the spare tire fell off from under the vehicle.the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired.the manufacturer was not notified of the failure.the approximate failure mileage was 85,000.
2009 toyota sienna with less than 700 miles had the automatic sliding door break. Should be covered under warranty.
The contact owns a 2009 toyota sienna. While driving at any speed, the dashboard remained greasy. When the sun reflected on the greasy dashboard, it would reflect onto the windshield and hinder the driver's visions. In addition, the entire dashboard area was cracked and the air bags were visible. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 26,000.
The dashboard is melting in our toyota sienna.we have had the van handicapped adapted.my husband is a disabled vet and i am the driver.i am also the person that is having the sun reflect off the dash and can sometimes impair vision.the dash is so sticky that everything attaches to the dash and it is dirty.there is no way to clean it.i cannot afford to buy a new dash and we do not travel far during the early part of the day.he is 64 and i will be 64 years old.we would appreciate your helpthank you very much.
During cold weather the lift gate will engage the power close feature automatically before user requests it.normally the power close is initiated by the user pulling the lift gate down.this is a safety issue as it takes a good amount of force to stop the power close feature.once you have stopped it, the door will raise, and than it will just begin the power close again.sometimes the door will immediately begin to close once it has been raised, other times it will wait for a short period of time before doing so.once it starts closing you have to move very quickly to avoid being trapped by the door.this occurs when the vehicle is stopped.it makes no difference if the vehicle is running or not, nor if the vehicle is parked on a slope or flat surface.
In cold weather, 32 degrees or less, the power rear hatch when opened automatically with the key fob or interior control button will open fully, then close immediately without warning. If a person or obstacle is in the way upon closing, it is very reluctant to reverse again. This poses a danger for smaller people such as my wife or 9 year old daughter.if the hatch is opened manually, it stays open and if it's warmer outside, the automatic feature works again. This has happened numerous times over the past couple of years during the winter.
The contact owns a 2009 toyota sienna. The contact stated that the dashboard material was defective. The dashboard exhibited fractures at the driver and passenger side air bag areas. The sunlight caused the dashboard to become sticky and caused a reflection on the windshield that obstructed the driver's view. The dashboard was not replaced. The manufacturer was not notified. The approximate failure mileage was 10,000.
Sliding passenger door cable broke. Could not close door and then later. Could not open door. Vehicle was stationary. Dealer states $1000-$2000 to repair.
Car was parked on level land both times:damages door #1: upon entering the left rear slider door the cable snapped causing loud noises and a large cable to appear and whip around which could have hit one of my children. I was ready to repair it and took it to the dealership when they informed me of the outrageous cost to repair. Within a few months ... The next do happened ... Damaged door #2: months after witnessing the first door, my daughter and son and i were getting out of the vehicle when suddenly the care shook and sounded like glass was breaking aand before we knew it the cable was whipping around like a wild snake. It was crazy! i made an appointment with the dealership at this point because the doors do not open all the way. I was informed there was no recall and their were no other complaints logged. I see now i was misinformed. Needless to say the work was not completed because of the price to complete the work being too expensive. I am now left with a van/vehicle which will not be worth anything if i wanted to sell it or trade it in for another model. Also, i tried calling the manufacturer myself and they communicated to me they had done one recall on another vehicle i owned and will not help me on another one. This seems to be poor business practice.
Passenger sliding door is locked shut and will not open either with electronic door opener or by hand. Completely locked and safety hazard. Door appears to lock and unlock but cannot open door at all. Driver side back sliding door cable snapped one month ago with wire dangling outside car. That had to be stripped out to get door to open close by hand.
The children lifted back lift gate to put school books into the van and the gate fell on one of them.this has happened to several others since then.a toyota rep said he has the same vehicle and said he uses a hockey stick to prop open the gate.we tried that for a while but it sometimes fails.we had it replaced (not by toyota) in august of 2013 and it continues to fail as soon as the weather gets cold.
Sliding door becomes inoperable. Will not open.
Electrical driver side door cable got snapped. Looks like other toyota sienna owner face same issue. Company knows the issue and enhancement warranty 10 years from the date-of-first-use or 150,000 miles (whichever occurs first). Currently my car is 10 years and 5 months and less than 95000 miles. They decline. If parts are faulty than company should able to repair regardless of year or mileages.
Power sliding door mechanisms fail and door is unable to be opened manually or electrically , from inside or outside the car.if there is an accident there is no way to open the door. This is very dangerous.
The cable for the passenger power sliding door broke and now the door is inoperable.toyota has a warranty enhancement program in place for this exact problem, however it only covers through the 2007 model year.very frustrating that nothing changed with the part on the 2009 model year and it is not covered.
The passenger side door cable broke & auto slide door no linger works. Stationary.
Passenger slide door cable snapped when closing the door.it snapped near the end of the grove where the door slides on to.the other end of the cable which pulls the door to the close position is not going in so the sliding door had to be forced to be closed.eventually, this cable was winded back into the door.however, with the other end snapped, this end would not be released from the motor after a few times of opening and closing the door manually.this had caused the door to be fully shut and closed.a few more pulls on the door handle from the outside eventually made a few big bangs.these bangs were a result of the motor pulling the remaining attached cable end to snap as well.now both end of the cables are inside the door/motor.toyota has a warranty enhancement in regards to this door issue.however, it only covers year 2007 to 2007.mine is a 2009.i see plenty of people posting online about their 2008 and 2009 sienna's having this same sliding door cable issue of it being snapped.i can't see why toyota is not covering these two years.my sienna was stationary when this happened.
The electrically-powered sliding rear door on the passenger side failed in the closed position because the cable designed to do this task had rusted through and snapped.this is a known issue, but toyota has refused to cover it.the door cannot be moved because the cable has wound itself up inside the door.this can trap the occupants inside the rear of the vehicle in an emergency.this makes the sienna unsafe.
Sliding door cable motor assembly broke on both doors.first was during extended warranty period at 40k miles and 2nd door after extended warranty expiredat 65k miles.there was a recall on the 2004-2007 for faulty cable assembly but not on the 2009.i feel there should be one for the 2009 as well.this is a 1,400 expense x 2!this happened with normal usage, opening/closing these doors once or twice a day on average.if it were heavier usage they would be snapping more frequently.an average family using this car for 100k miles would have to replace these more than once!that's nearly $6,000 just for door usage.
Driver side passenger automatic door cable snapped. Door will automatically shut but will not open.2100 to fix. Our model year is not included for the same issue for the csp.
The driver side slide door after i opened it , the cable that controls the open and shut broke. The van was not running or moving i had just opened the door then heard it snap
Drivers side sliding door cable snapped. This is a safety hazzard. It happened while my daughter was standing waiting for the door to open and the cable just snapped right in front of her face. We were in our driveway and the van was stationary. That cable came shooting out from the chase it sits in super fast. I can't believe this cable is actually outside the car!
Both automatic rear sliding doors stick and have to be used manually.i've already had one door fixed a few years ago.
The power cables snapped and one sliding door will not open at all, not even manually.the other opens approximately twelve inches manually then shuts on its own and cannot be help open. Someone can get trapped in the door as it shuts and it does not automatically re-open or "bounce" open.any back seat passengers must climb through the front doors to get in or out. I have filed a previous complaint but one of the doors would open manually and that is no longer the case.
Power sliding door malfunction disabling the use of a sliding door. The cable that moves the sliding door broke making the door inoperable. A clear safety hazard by eliminating a point of access or regress.
The driver's side sliding door cable just snapped, and now cannot be used. Not for kids to get out.
Body- at 112,000 miles, driver's side sliding door wire snapped from normal use. Inferior material and or design alleged.fuel itemcharcoal canister, oil control valve, and oxygen sensor failure at 116,000 miles.
My passenger side sliding door make a "crack" sound and now i can not open it.i took it to the dealer and showed them the csp no pol12-02 by toyota and they said that my vin number wasn't on it even thought it looks to be a latch problem.i asked them to make it so that i can open and close it manually and they said they couldn't do it unless i pay them to open up the door.this is a safety issue where i have two kids in the back seat.theses doors if the automatic mechanics are broken, they need to make it so that it can be opened manually without the costumer having to pay for it.this is ridiculous how toyota can't just make a door to open and close.now i have to drive my kids with one door that sometime comes open while driving.
The dashboard is sticky.your hand will stick to it.it was first noticed about a year ago.it was justthe drivers side.i took the car to the local toyota dealer and was told immediately that it was something i used to clean with.now the whole dashboard is sticky and i have not used anything on it as everythingsticks to it.
The right hand sliding door cable snapped while child was opening door in parked car. Luckily no injuries.however, the company has extended warranty for model year 2004-2007, not later model years. Corrective action should be covered for all model years.
The cable for the automatic sliding door snapped and got jammed in the motor causing the passenger side sliding door to be stuck in the closed position. This causes a safety issue because it hinders passenger egress from the vehicle. This vehicle is equipped with a driver's side sliding door so passengers were able to exit on the street side of the vehicle which is a safety hazard because they were exiting into traffic. Toyota recalled/extended the warranty for the defective cable assembly but only for models years 2002-2007. Toyota refuses to extend the warranty for the same exact defective part in the 2009 model.
Passenger sliding door won't close with both power motor and manually.it's stuck open. I called toyota corporate offices to get assistance and they stated that the warranty enhancement just expired 1 month ago.do not know how to get the van door unstuck.it just happened today, or i would've called 1 month ago.very frustrated, cannot drive vehicle.it happened in my driveway, vehicle was stationary.
I have the 2009 sienna, and both sliding door have broken due to the power sliding door assembly snapping, and this same problem is covered on 2004-2007 models even though its the exact same car!
Power doors not working will not open or close on auto all the timeor on manual now drivers side cables have broke.
Driver's side power door stopped working. Cable broke. 3 weeks later passenger power door stopped working. Cause of that is unknown.
Automatic sliding door cable snapped. Passenger side. This is the second time, same problem.
Cable snapping on automatic sliding door in the van.the cables that operate the automatic function of the sliding doors snapped on both doors within 9 months of each other as the door was being closed.this caused the door to be stuck shut (because of the way the cable coiled when it snapped).once we got home we were able to get the door open but now it the closes very hard or is very hard to open when on inclines.
The cable that opens the power sliding doors snapped making the door unable to open.this occurred on the passenger side in april of 2013 at 58,000 and then to the driver side door in august of 2014 at 76,000.we were able to use our extended warranty to pay for the first door.the price to repair this problem is $1,00 to $1,400.toyota has a recall for this problem up to the 2008 model, but will not repair our vehicle because it is a 2009.to me, this is an obvious design flaw and presents a danger because passengers can't exit that side in an emergency.
The cable on my driver side power sliding door of my 2009 toyota sienna snapped.the end was corroded. The door cannot be opened making ita safety hazard because i havechildren who need to safely open the doors in case of emergency.the dealership told me that the cables are covered under an extended warranty for the '06-'08 but not the '09, despite being the exact same design. The dealer said they could cut the cable below the door so the door could be manually opened for $165 which could not be reimbursed in the event of a recall.the dealer said the door could be fixed for $1600which would be reimbursed if there was a recall.
The power door cable has rusted clear through and snapped whipping around like a live wire. This was just after i put my 2 year old in his car seat. The car was parked..now the door will not open all the way and there is a cable loose on the driver's side. There is a bulletin campaign for the cable on toyota sienna cable for replacement up to 2007. But 2008-2010 is not covered.this is crazy that toyota will not cover it. Https://www.facebook.com/toyota-sienna-faulty-power-sliding-doors-233250320033754/ there are more people this is happening to, i cannot open my door all the way to get my 2 year old out in an emergency. Unacceptable by toyota. 1300$ for the part and 5+ hours of labor...for a faulty cable. Dangerous! now i fear the other side will snap too2009 should be covered under the bulletin attached belowhttps://www.dropbox.com/s/uutapynppj55gcr/t-cp-zts.pdf?dl=0
While traveling at highways speeds (65 mph) on interstate 290 heading west outside of worcester, ma at approximately 7:30am the spare tire fell off the vehicle causing us to run over the tire.visual inspection of the vehicle immediately following (within a mile down road), the passenger side running board was also missing.a road side assistance vehicle was already tending to another motorists near the incident and we talked to him.he indicated that the mass state police were responding to assists. They arrived shortly after and told me the spare tire was in the median and probably damaged after being hit by a truck.we were welcomed to retrieve it, but since she was operating alone she couldn't stop 4 lanes of westbound traffic but that i was welcome to try and retrieve it. Because of the traffic speeds, the number of lanes of traffic, and the lack of a breakdown lane near the median, it was decided it would not be safe to retrieve the tire. We have filed a damaged vehicle report with toyota corporation especially in lieu of a known defect (federal recall notice) regarding the harness holding the spare tire in place on these vehicles.
This is the second time in less than a year that the sliding door cable has rusted and snapped making my door unusable. My 4 year old autistic son was standing outside the door and the cable went snapping and flying before eventually jamming up the motor. It was terrifying. I had the same incident happen with the drivers side door this year. This car has 88k and has had both replaced for rusting through and snapping. What if this cable whipped and hit my child? we were lucky this time. When will someone take this issue seriously.
Passenger side power door cable system broke.this is a known issue for toyota but for some reason they are not covering the repair for 2009 model years.please see attachment which documents this would be covered for other years....even though no change in design occurred.
The cable in the rear passenger sliding door for the minivan became frayed/rusted and snapped, causing a long metal cable to be hanging off the driver side of the vehicle (possibly could have hit other cars) and the door no longer works. The car was stationary (closing door) when this happened. The door was hard to open/close before this happened, and then the cable just broke one day.toyota has a "warranty enhancement" for this issue for models through 2007, but are saying they will not cover it for the exact same issue in a 2009 sienna, despite evidence i'm finding online that many of the 2008s and beyond are having the issue.
I have a 2004 toyota sienna (10000 ml.)in a very good condition, last month passenger side power sliding door stopped working. Dealer wanted over $1500 to fix it. This after going thought front driver side door recall ( toyota dealer fixed it 3 times)and back trunk door struts recall it seems that this van has some serious door problems. After using some online blogs i discovered that there is a lot of sienna owners with the very same problem, beside the fact i am driving two 5 year old kids in this van every day and this clearly creates a very dangerous safety concern.
Sliding door cable snapped.seems like a common theme so i thought i submit the same thing happen to me.then the door roller went bad leading to the door coming off.now door is inoperable.
The sliding side doors' (both) cables snapped within 3 weeks of each other. Earlier, and while still under warranty, the locking mechanisms failed to work and would allow the door to open on its own while i was driving. This was very dangerous. Both doors were fixed by the toyota dealer at no cost to me. When my sienna had 118000 miles the passenger side sliding door made a grinding type noise and then i heard a snap. The door's cable snapped. I immediately took it to toyota dealer and they said that earlier year models were covered and repaired by toyota at no cost to the owner. They would fix mine for about $1,300 dollars. I did not have the money and the dealer made my door a "manual" door.three weeks later the same exactsequence of events occured to the driver's side sliding door. Now both of my electric sliding doors are "manually" operated. It would cost me $2,600 dollars to repair both doors.if earlier year toyota sienna doors are covered by an extended warranty at no cost to the consumer, why is my sienna 2009 not covered by this extended warranty??? it is ovious that it is a manufacturer's defect and as such this defect should be repaired by the toyota dealer at no cost to consumer.
Power rear hatch goes up with difficulty, then stops and drops several inches and then powers down.will not stay up.toyota put out a special service campaign [recall] 80c in 2008 for this very same problem for 2004 thru 2006 models.they addressed it as a safety problem.the repair was to replace the struts and brackets.my strut p/n is 68905-ae013 which has now substitutes to 68905-ae015.i contacted toyota headquarters customer service to make a report and was told there is no ssc for my model.
The cables on both power sliding doors of my 2009 toyota sienna snapped within a few days of each other. The doors are very difficult to open and sometimes jam partially open, making it both a safety hazard because i have 4 children who need to safely open the doors in case of emergency, and a issue for driving, since sometimes the door will jam partially open and won't close. The dealership told me that the cables are covered under an extended warranty for the '06-'08 but not the '09, despite being the exact same design. The cost to get the doors repaired is approximately $4,000!
Right side power sliding door cable assy broke during normal operation. A warranty extension was issued by toyota for the cable to be replaced in 2004-2007 siennas.2004-20010 model years for latches but the cable problem still exists in my 2009 sienna. I've seen a lot of similar complaints and the cost is close to $ 2000.00 to fix.please check into this for the good of the people thanks
Power cable assembly for power sliding door behind the driver snapped while opening the door using the key fob. Door is still operable in manual mode.however, toyota issued a customer support program (zts) for power sliding door cable assembly for model years 2004-2007.the unfortunate thing is that the same part on my 2009 toyota sienna is the same part that is covered for the 2004-2007 model years.there have been no changes to the part or part number for the 2008, 2009or 2010 models but yet they are not covered.these years should be covered as there is zero difference between them and the 2004-2007 models.my part number is 69641-08030 and was covered if i had a 2004-2007 sienna, but not for anything newer.ridiculous. Attaching the customer support program (zts) for your review. Thankfully we were not moving or that the cable snapped and hit someone standing next to the vehicle.
Rubber coating on handle on tailgate door lift melted. Leaves fingers with black gunk on them that is very difficult to wash off whenever opening this hatch.
2009 toyota sienna with power sliding doors. I believe the cause of this issue may be a poorly designed roller hinge for the sliding doors. If the roller hinge fails and binds, it will cause the power sliding door motor and/or cable to fail. Passenger side power sliding door became stuck, partially open, with my handicapped son inside while i was parked outside his school for drop off. I observed that the power door cable was broken. When i attempted to push the door open to get my son out, the roller hinge failed, coming partway out of its track, and the rear side window shattered, covering the third seat with broken glass. A small amount of glass landed on my son. I was forced to carry him (13 years old, approximately 75 lbs.) out from the driver side sliding door. The door would not open or close so i was forced to have it towed to the dealership for repair. This is the second time this has happened! in 2015 an almost identical scenario took place in my driveway, in this earlier instance with the driver side slider door failing and shattering the driver side rear side window. Fortunately, no one was in the vehicle in that case, either. In the first instance insurance covered the damage, with a $300 deductible. A few months after that we paid $1100 to have the passenger side power door motor and cable replaced after the cable broke. This recent failure is estimated to cost between $2000 and $3000. As yet, insurance is refusing to pay for anything except the broken window.
2009 toyota sienna was parked and upon opening sliding rear automatic door, the rear automatic door cable snapped and the door automatically closed and can no longer be opened posing a safety hazard.toyota has a warranty enhancement replacing the cable assembly for rear doors for 2004-2007 model years, but not for 2009.the thin cable is frayed and rusted indicating a design defect because the cable could have been sheathed better or stainless steel cable could have been used.
2009 toyota sienna with mileage lesser than 110,000. The left sliding door wont open. Looked at the toyota web site and found out that its part of the vehicle warrantee as long as its mileage is lesser than 120,000. *nfthe consumer stated the dealer advised the vehicle was not included in the recall. Updated 10/17/2017
Rear sliding doors won't stay open on 2009 toyota sienna. The smallest of inclines will make the sliding doors refuse to stay open.
My name is [xxx], since young until now i had bought total 7 toyota vehicles in my life.my toyota sienna 2009 has problem with the power slide door that it open and close by it self a few times while i vacuum the rug of floor today.the car was at parked and engine is off. Also i found the cables on the slide door hung out exposed on the side of the door edge.please see picture attached.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
Passenger power sliding door cable broke.
Upon opening the driver side power sliding door, the cable snapped, and the door would not open.we disengaged the power and figured we would continue to use the door in a manual setting.however, once the door was closed, we discovered that you cannot open it if the cable is snapped.it opened up about 8-12 inches, but would go no further.although out of warranty, toyota agreed to fix the assembly due to an enhanced service agreement.in jan. 2015, the same thing happened on the passenger side and we could again not use the door.after taking it to a toyota dealer again, we were told they would not cover it under the enhanced service because it had been covered in error the first time.we asked them to just get it to a point where we could open the door manually, but they said the full repair ($1600) had to be done to do that.upon doing research, we discovered that this is a common problem among many toyota sienna owners over the past 10 years.we are filing this complaint because we believe that it is a major safety hazard to not be able to even manually open the sliding doors when the power assembly fails.if there is a switch for manual operation, it should always function in manual mode.what would happen if both doors were broken and there was an emergency?children (or anyone for that matter) would not be able to quickly exit the vehicle, nor would emergency workers be able to get them out quickly.these repairs are around $1600 per door.many families cannot and should not have to spend this kind of money to merely get a door to function in a manual setting.
Sliding door cable - driver's side.toyota stated there is a tsb for the passenger side sliding door cable, yet not for the driver's side as it's optional.seems toyota has an issue with cables in general in cold regions where salt is used on the roads. When the cable snapped the vehicle was parked on a slight decline (front of vehicle lower than the back), so when my young daughter opened the door and was in the process of exiting the vehicle the cable snapped and the sliding door, which is heavy almost smashed her.
While on a decline, automatic sliding door cable snapped while door was automatically closing. Door slammed shut just as an 11 year old child got into the car. Thankfully she was not injured. Brought it to dealer and since models 2004-2007 underwent recall for this very incident, sliding door was fixed at no charge. It was found that cable which allows the sliding door to glide open and close fluently was rusted and rotted away causing it to snap. Car is parked in a covered and closed garage all year through. This was on driver side. The passenger side had the same rust and rot but since still functioning, toyota would not replace as a preventative measure. We were always concernedthat this would happened again and took great care especially on declines. While parked on flat driveway, 6 months later, second sliding door cable snapped. Thankfully no injuries. Brought it to dealer and were told that they would not cover this time. We were also told by one of the dealer's mechanics that 2009 model is exactly made like 2004-2007 so he could not understand why the recall was arbitrarily given to only those years. Now door is manual but without cable, even on the slightest decline, door slams shut. Will not stay open. This is a major concern for my children's safety. They will not cover cost to replace it or fix it but the door is not safe to use otherwise.
The cable broke on the power sliding door due to the plastic coating being worn, exposing the cable to the elements and rusting it.this vehicle is less than 5 years old.
The contact owns a 2009 toyota sienna. The contact stated that the sliding doors erroneously opened while driving various speeds. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was found that the door mechanism was rusted and was causing the doors to not spring back in place. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was contacted about the failure. The failure mileage was 49,463.updated 12/24/13*ljeach time the consumer returned to the dealer, they claimed they fixed the problem. However, the door would pop open again, disabling the security system and causes the battery to go dead. The consumer had to tie the door shut. Updated 12/24/13
The automatic sliding door on our van has closed on our 3 year old twice, causing minor injury.the first time, the door hit his head but did not encounter enough resistance to engage the safety open until it had pushed him against the side of the van.then the safety engaged and the door opened.it left red marks on both sides of his head.we took the van to the dealer on april 12 2010 to have the door looked at, and requested that the resistance be lowered.on april 28th the door again hit our child, this time the door completely latched closed on his hand, pinning his hand in the door.his thumb had a "dent" in it, and is now extremely and immobile the next day.he is being taken to the dr today.i called toyota corporate 10 minutes after the incident to report it.
The sliding back door was being closed from the power button near the drivers seat.the door wouldn't close so the button was pressed again.the door then slammed shut with great force and could have injured anyone in it's way.now it is inoperable and needs a very expensive repair.apparently this is an ongoing problem with this generation of the toyota sienna vans and toyota refuses to address it.
Our automatic sliding door was opened but would not close. No amount of tugging, finessing, or cursing would make it shut. Children were stranded in phoenix heat in august because the vehicle was unsafe to drive with a door that could not be closed. There are many mentions of this exact problem on various blogs and all report difficulty in getting toyota to offer a solution that didn't cost $1-2k. Almost all owners reported the "fixed" doors to have failed in some way again with dealers refusing to cover the cost of the second (or third) fix. The failure had to do with the actuator that unlocks the "u" shaped striker assembly. It seems evident that the cable is either breaking, stretching, or that some solenoid is not doing its job.the outsome of our problem was that a second vehicle had to be obtained, children and their seats moved to the new vehicle and the van driven in an unsafe condition back to our house 10 miles away because the dealership was closed.to complicate this, the sienna was down to no gasoline and it was the driverside door that was stuck in open position which made it impossible to put fuel in the vehicle. What if this same scenario happened in the middle of the dessert here at a rest stop in 120-degree heat with no tow truck in 100 miles and no way to drive the van with children inside? this is not only possible, but likely. Our van has two (2) automatic doors and this problem has been reported by many people.lastly, no one who reported the problem, reported the problem permanently fixed by anything the dealerships were able to do. For us, this first incident is probably covered by warranty, but how about future problems?the actuator issue is a design flaw. The fuel door behind sliding door makes it an inconvenient design flaw. That this is on a vehicle that transports children, makes the design flaw a serious safety concern. And that toyota is not addressing the problem in any substantial way just plain sucks!
My 2009 sienna van sliding door will not open.
Rear hatch on 2009 toyota sienna xle closes spontaneously and does not stay up w/o holding it.
The automatic rear lift gate closes prematurely.the above date is the last time an injury was caused.i think that the gas struts are defective, and can no longer support the weight of the lift gate, which causes the gate to close prematurely. The failure has happened several times in the past year.on one occasion, the gate struck the bridge of my nose and caused a small laceration. I think that the struts can no longer support the weight of the liftgate when it is open, so the liftgate will fall about ten inches after it reaches the fully open position, at which point the power motor will engage the power liftgate to the fully closed position. This has caused injury to me because i was struck by liftgate when it falls or closes. I think that toyota should correct the defect by replacing the gas struts with redesigned gas struts that have longer service life.
Rear hatch struts stopped working (manual door).extremely heavy rear door of the sienna is now extremely dangerous.once opened the door just crashes shut.it could easily kill someone who was standing under it.
The rear lift door of the 2009 sienna has the power lift.i hit the fob to open the door to load items into the back of the van.it opened normally and my wife and i leaned into the van to put items in.as the door reached the top, it suddenly started closing while we were standing under it.i had to use quite a bit of force to slow it down enough so we could get out of the way.and even with me being 6'1 and 195 lbs, it was not easy to do.my wife who is 5'1 and 110 lbs could not have stopped it.if i opened the door manually, there was nothing to assist me with the weight of the door, so i had to continually hold it up.since this incident, it happened every time until i got it fixed at a toyota dealership.they said the hatch stays were leaking, it cost me $327 for them to install a back door stay kit.in researching this on the internet, i noticed there was a recall for older model years, but not for 2009.it seems like the same exact problem, and feel the recall should be extended to newer model years.
The automatic rear lift gate closes as soon as it opens. It been doing for pass few days now. Its a pain but had to go thru. Its expensive to fix,,,
Usually in cold temperatures, whenever the rear automatic hatch is opened from the either the fob or the van's control panel, the rear hatch door begins to close back without warning/notice. This has happened at least 20 times since we purchased our 2009 toyota sienna in december of 2008 and is increasing in frequency. The approximate onset date is recorded below on this form. When it begins to close, adults and children have been trapped between the hatch and the vehicle, resulting in pinning and cuts to the head. Only with strong manual force does the hatch stop closing. As of today, 2/9/10, there have been no notifications of a recall or effort to correct or repair the problem. Because the problem was infrequent at first and corrected itself when the temperatures got warmer, we thought it was just a temporary glitch, but then the problem reappeared once temperatures began to get cold again in the fall of 2009.
Lift gate struts on 2009 toyota sienna have failed meaning that the rear door does not hold itself up when opened.there are two struts and both have failed.the struts must be replaced at a cost of about $200 each for a total of $400.
While vehicle was parked, ignition on, we opened the rear hatch ( manual). Upon full opening there was a loud bang and the strut on the right proceeded to release all of it's gas. The gate can be opened but will close immediately unless held in place, neither side has any support.as the gate is heavy this is a huge inconvenience.we were very lucky the person unloading was an adult and was able to keep the hatch from slamming down on them.
The back trunk does not stay open, and slams shut so hard! i found this out after a trio to the grocery store with my two little ones. I had to use my head to prop the trunk open, which resulted in me hurting my neck. For fear of injury to myself of my children with how the trunk slams down so hard and fast, i just crawled from the backseat to the trunk area.because i have young children, i have strollers in the trunk of my van, i saw that there was a recall for rear struts for 2004 - 2005 siennas, nothing since. Very frustrating that i'm going through this, but its somewhat a relief that i not alone. But if i'm not alone; why is toyota not doing something about this.
Usually moving between 25- 45 mph. On any road. The vsc, traction control, and check engine light come on. For no reason this happens quite often daily. I have looked inti this and numerous, numerous people experience tge same problem
2009 toyota sienna.consumer writes in regards to excessive corrosion of the spare tire carrier cable recall notice issues.the consumer stated it has been nine months, since she first received the interim notice.the dealer informed her, there was solution for the problem and to remove the spare tire for now.
The contact owns a 2009 toyota sienna. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 14v273000 (tires); however, the part needed to do the repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure.

It has been 4 years and toyota has still not provided a solution to the spare tire (under vehicle mount) recall. Why are you giving them so much time to solve this issue???? this tire sits in the trunk and takes up valuable space. You must put pressure on them to resolve this issue. It should not take 4 years to resolve.
Sometime around august 2014, i received a safety recall notice from toyota.it mentioned a new safety recall #e1s which supersedes the prior notice #a9e.this involves the spare tire carrier cable which may corrode due to road salt in cold climate areas, which i understand includes maryland where i live.i have called toyota dealers near me and they keep saying that toyota has not provided them with the part to repair this.i tried again today, march 13, 2015, but the answer is the same.therefore, i am registering my complaint today and would like to know how soon this safety defect might be taken care of.

Both my sliding doors on my 2009 sienna are broken, we have kids and it can be dangerous! i also have a 2004 sienna with the same problem, and toyota had an extended warranty to fix it, but that ended at the 2007 models. Please step in and make toyota cover the almost $4000 dollar repair that seems like there own incompetence.
There is a current recall on the passenger power sliding door cables that are known to break on vehicles from 2004 to 2007.however, this model ranges from year 2003 to 2010.our passenger side power sliding door cable broke in 2015 while on an incline which slammed shut almost crushing our 13 year old.the driver's side power sliding door cable broke in 2017.once theybreak, you cannot open the door.this issue is a safety hazard when it breaks and is a safety hazard after it breaks as there is no way to exit the vehicle.the recall needs to be extended to the full years of this model van as there are multiple owners reporting the same issue.both cables broke while the vehicle was stationary on a city street.
On march 19, 2019 the sunroof and sunroof cover flew off my vehicle as i was driving on a highway.my local toyota dealership had no idea why this would happen.i found out after speaking to my car insurance company that there is a recall from webasto, the manufacturer of the sunroof.the vehicle manufacturers should be 100% aware of this and sending out notices to owners.this could have killed someone and webasto is forcing customers to use a repair facility they choose.toyota should be issuing recall notices and repairing these vehicles asap before someone is killed.
2009 toyota sienna with mileage lesser than 110,000. The left sliding door wont open. Sliding door cables snapped not allowing the side doors to open. This is a safety concern not allowing occupants to exit the van in an emergency.
The sliding doors open and close buy a push of a botton but when something gets in the way the door still shut it doesn't stop my 3 yr old daughter hand was in the way when the door was closing by time i got to her fingers were pinned an this happen to my son my sons friend head u have to hit the door to stop it. I don't feel that is safe at all.
The passenger door cable assembly snapped causing the door to slam shut on my child's leg while entering the vehicle.we were parked in a parking lot, the keys were not in the ignition.the car was parked on a slight decline with the rear of the car slightly higher than the front.the door was never engaged to close, it slammed shut on its own.
The automatic rear sliding door cable broke.not able to use the door.i looked up the problem on line and it is a common problem that toyota has known about.online we found a toyota warranty policy bulletin-subject-customer support program (zts): warranty enhancement for rear sliding door latch assemblies on certain 2004-2010my sienna vehicles and power sliding door cable assembly on certain 2004-2007my sienna vehicles.obviously toyota knows there is a problem, and it continues and has not been corrected.cars manufactured after those dates are still having the same problems and toyota is trying to bleed it's customers dry with the outrageous prices they are charging for the replacement parts.there needs to be a recall on these problems!
My 2009 sienna no longer has side doors that are operational. On both side doors the sliding cable is broken and the cable assembly needs to be replaced. This is a known defect that for some unknown reason is not covered by toyota's warranty enhancement policy pol12-02, since although my sienna has only 110,000 miles it is not within the model years 2004 to 2007. There is no reasonable explanation why my 2009 sienna, which has the same cable defect as the 2004 to 2017 models, would not be subject to the warranty enhancement. The lack of warranty coverage leads to a dangerous situation as my passengers (two young daughters must exit the car through the trunk. Moreover, the condition prevents me from using the car as intended. I am the owner of 4 toyota vehicles and am very disappointed in the poor quality of my sienna. I have tried to convince the dealership (i met with penn toyota in ny) as well as toyota motor corporation (i spoke with pam g by phone) to remedy the situation but to no avail.
As i previously filed a complaint for the door cables snapping a new problem has resulted due to the cables failure.if the van is in any sort of decline while parked, including small as a driveway incline the door will not remain open and slams shut very quickly.
Power sliding door cable assembly has broken.this issue has been reported in multiple model years for the toyota sienna, and there was a warranty extension put in place to replace any on siennas that are a model year of 2007 or older.there should be a warranty extension for 2008 and newer since the issue still appears in these model years.
The cable snapped on the power sliding door.this is the second door now.one door will not open at all, and the other door will only open manually. Toyota has an enhanced warranty program on the cables, obviously with the numerous complaints it should have been a warranty recall. My vehicle is only 6 years old and the warranty is for 9 years /120 k miles.of course, i am over the mileage.
Cable on right power sliding door broke. Nowthe door slams closed without control anytimei park on a hill. My child's arm was bruised. What if fingers were in there
In april 2009 the accelerator stuck on my 2009 toyota sienna van.the dealer failed to replicate the problem and neither the dealer nor toyota has made any progress to resolving.now i see where a vast number of other toyota vehicles are similarly plagued and my confidence in the sienna is further eroded.please help!tw*
Power sliding door cable failure that pulls the door open. Nine opened about 6 inches they stopped as if it hit something. Had to break the cable to get door open
Cables for both sliding doors have snapped.now one of the doors is stuck completely shut and no longer usable.there was a consumer protection program implemented by toyota to fix this exact problem, but it only covers toyota siennas manufactured from 2004 to 2007.dealer says our car is not covered and will not fix it.even though door is not usable which creates a major safety hazard in the event of a car accident and need for passengers to quickly be able to get out of car.this is a very common problem with this vehicle that has been widely reported on the internet.
Very upset and frustrated with our 2009 sienna issues.first, in 2013 was the snapped power door cable on the drivers' side rendering the door inoperable at first and now only manually operable.received a quote to replace the door assembly with a price tag of over $1500.had a big mixup with the dealership when we thought the repair was covered by toyota when, in fact, it wasn't.if the car were older it would have been covered.then, to top it off, earlier this year, the passengers' side cable snapped too.so we now have two doors, that do not work, and a repair bill over $3000!!!i feel this is a safety issue as others have reported.what if there were an accident and my children were unable to get out of the car, or emergency personnel were unable to get in?even the risk of pinched fingers in the manual door "slamming" is simply unacceptable to me.this is not what we had expected from toyota and we truly feel this should be remedied immediately at no cost to us.all of the hassle and worry and frustration simply to have the car work as it should has led me here, filling this complaint, in hopes that it can be addressed. Thank you.
The rear left sliding door does not lock when shut. Even when used in power mode or manual. It will slide open when driving down the road especially on turns. Reading online it seems to be a common problem with this vehicle.the door lock actuator will not secure the door in a lock position no matter what you do. This makes the vehicle unsafe to drive for the fear that somebody will fall out while driving.
The rear powerdoor lift struts are failing, they automatically close without warning. Very un safe
When it is cold outside, the rear hatch will not stay open. It starts to fall closed and then engages the auto-close function and will not stop if it encounters a person who happened to be standing getting things into/out of the back. This is when the vehicle is stationary.
The cable snapped on our electric rear passenger door making it unable to open it. It seems this is a common problem and is a safety concern!
Driver side automatic sliding door failed to operate after the cable snapped.cable did not cause injury but this is a potential hazard.now the door operates in manual mode but if the van is on an incline, the door will close rapidly with significant force.this is a danger to young children.
Vehicle accessory. I have purchased a harmar al625 scooter lift, purchased through spinlife (don't know which company is responsible). The installation instructions do not match the hardware provided, creating the possibility of injury or vehicle damage due to incorrect installation. Specifically, the instructions call for use of 2 "mounting bars", used to avoid drilling holes in the vehicle. Only 1 mounting bar was supplied, along with other hardware to apparently be used in place of the second bar. This is possibly required due to the 3rd row seating mounts of the sienna. There are no instructions for mounting the alternate hardware, nor have i been able to find any on the harmar and spinlife websites. Attempts to contact both companies have so far been fruitless.
Automatic sliding door cable snapped. Passenger side. This is the second time, same problem.
Sliding door becomes inoperable. Will not open.
Cable snapped on 2009 toyota sienna sliding door while opening it.door cannot open or close, even without power.
Both sides power sliding doors had a cable broken that activates automatic door function, it also obstructs manually opening doors creating an egress hazard. Both doors can only be manually opened partial way. Average person enters/exits rear seats with great difficulty due to the sliding door obstruction.
Passenger slider door cable suddenly snapped and is hanging outside of car.upon closer inspection cable has corroded.car has been maintained per toyota's recommendation at dealer and never any mention regarding potential problem with cable.door no longer closes on its own and is very hard to open.children must now climb in and over each other to enter vehicle; concern about safety in a crash.cost to repair is over $1500.
On 10/16/14 i had the car turned off and pulled the toyota sienna electric sliding door open when the cable snapped and only allowed the door to open approx. 8 inches. Today 10/26/14 the cable on the other door snapped and i cannot open the door at all.this is the only vehicle i have to transport my 3 young children and am extremely worried that if i am in a car accident there will be no way out of the vehicle if the front two doors are damaged.i took the vehicle to the toyota dealership in frederick, md at approx. 110k and was told the doors were fine. I told them it seems like the driver sliding door would stick but they didn't find anything wrong with it.now both of them are broken. I am highly disappointed in my sienna and will ever purchase another one again.i have been told it will cost us 1800.00 to fix one door!i have two to fix!you are welcome to contact me at any time.
Unexpected accelaration while attempting to park;low speed, barely moving. The vehicle(2009 toyota sienna lunged forward and hit a parked vehicle causing damaged to the sienna and the parked vehicle.
Attempted to accelerate to pass a large truck and vehicle started accelerating out of control. Tried to brake and that didn't work. Applied foot brake and that didn't work. Speed may have increased to approx 70-80 mph. Speedometer show approx 45 mph. Unable to steer vehicle. It was as if the motor had stopped and i had no power steering. After hitting 2-3 vehicles and then the right lane bridge wall the front tire and steering assembly bent inward nd that caused the van to stop. That god that noone was injured but something is seriously wrong. I've seen several complaints of sudden acceleration in sienna vans and this need much attention.
In november 2009 while parking my car in store parking, my foot was on brake my car accelerated, suddenly jumped on the 1 foot high footpath and crashed into the store injuring few people. Nothing worked even brakes jammed. I contacted the toyota and they sent me letter after 30 days that they have found nothing and toyota dealer was not ready to take any part in resolving the problem. They refused to give me rental vehicle and i had to pay one month of rental car as well.i am scared to drive this vehicle now. I would like to file a complain to take immediate action in this regards.thank you
My wife was pulling into a daycare parking space with our two kids, going 3 mph (according to black box readings) when the vehicle suddenly began accelerating.the vehicle jumped the curb, hit a retaining wall hard enough to throw it backwards and get stuck in a snowbank (luckily), where the vehicle finally stopped.my wife was flooring the brake the whole time, with no effect.we contacted toyota, who sent out an inspector who inspected the brakes and accelerator.weeks later we received a letter from toyota's legal department saying the inspector found nothing wrong with the brakes or accelerator, and since this is not a manufacturer defect, there is nothing further they can do.the toyota dealership said they follow toyota's orders, so they cannot help either.we're going to have to sell this as i don't feel safe driving it.
We recently bought toyota sienna limited 2wd.the van started to accelerate on its own at a lower speed (from 10 to 35 mph).in addition, the van maintains its speed without using a cruise control.furthermore, when the van is started, the ideal is very high like someone is pushing on the gas.we tried to contact the dealer in hickory, nc; however, nobody has contacted us back to make an appointment.
On an early saturday april 18, 2009 trip to the airport the cruise control stuck while accelerating and would not disengage by pressing the brake pedal or by pulling the cruise control lever (located on the steering column) towards the driver.i had just gone through an automatic tollgate in the far left lane and began accelerating (and probably hit the 'resume' feature of the cruise control lever) in order to get immediately over to the far right lane to exit.within seconds i was up to an adequate speed and touched the brake.the car continued accelerating.i pressed the brake more firmly and pulled the cruise control lever towards me.neither action disengaged the cruise control.i was able to avoid traffic and point the car towards the right shoulder.i then pushed the gear shift into neutral and the car engine slowed down, the car stopped accelerating, and the cruise control disengaged.on my return trip i tried to duplicate the actions which preceded the problem but was not successful.(i have driven the car about 5600 miles and this was the first time this problem has occurred.)the same day i took the car to a large toyota dealer.they drove the car several miles and did not have the problem occur.so they were not able to find a problem.they said they could only fix a problem if they could experience it.and, they suggested i take the car to the toyota dealer that sold it to me.later the same day i did return the car to the toyota dealer that sold it to me.they were good listeners and kept the car for several days of driving, diagnostics, and phone calls to toyota.but, in the end they too, could not locate a problem and returned the car to me unchanged.my confidence in this vehicle is greatly diminished.while i was successful in disengaging the accelerating cruise control by putting the car into neutral i do not want to have to depend on that especially in a heavy traffic situation.
Dashboard is sticky and extreme cracking. Makes it hard to see when sunlight hits dashboard. Have tried everything to try and get stickiness off. Nothing has worked.
The dashboard on this vehicle is essentially melting and turning into a sticky, tacky glue which creates a blinding glare on the windshield for the driver while driving.toyota did have an extended warranty for this that they put into effect after the problem became public but they put a time limit on it and my vehicle started having the issue just outside of the warranty period.in fact i had the vehicle evaluated in 2017 during the extended warranty period and was told it did not qualify because i apparently was taking care of my vehicle too well.now toyota is saying i'll have to replace the dashboard myself.it is really hard to drive on bright days because the glare is awful.
