Alignment problems - repeated attempts by toyota dealership in bloomington, il have failed to correct pull to left. Originally brought in with pull to rignt. Dealer replaced tires and did alignment. Sienna now pulls to left. Vehicle brought back twice but problem not resolved. Dealer shared opinion that there is a problem with the sienna model and that it frequently cannot be aligned and suggested replacement of rack and pinon assembly. Restraint system / seat belt failure - middle row bench sean, passenger side shoulder belt retractor failure. Belt will not retract or release and is stuck in locked position

My 16 year old daughter was driving our toyota sienna when she ran into the back of another vehicle (that had just been involved in an accident) at about 35-40 miles per hour.in spite of a front impact collision that buckled the hood and totalled our van, the airbags did not deploy and the seat belt did not lock.this caused my daughter to hit her head on the steering wheel. My concern is over the fact that the air bags did not deploy.even though the van is 8 years old there has never been another accident in it and no tampering has been done with the airbag system.it should have deployed and i am concerned about defect.

While traveling at 20 to 30 mphconsumer's vehicle was involved in acollision with another driver that was backing out in the middle of traffic.upon impact, none of the airbags deployed.

Vehicle experienced a frontal collision at 45 mph inwhich both air bags failed to deploy.also, driver's seat belt, andmiddle captain's seat belt behind passenger's seat, failed to operate. No injuries reported, and manufacturer was notified.

Vehicle was involved in a frontal collision of 30 mph impact, and both air bags failed to deploy. Driver sustainedminor injuries.manufacturer. Notified. *ml

The contact drives 1999 toyota sienna (failure mileage: 100k). He stated that yesterday whle driving he was involved in a head on collision with a semi-truck. He stated that his vehicle was in perfect condition, however at the time of the accident, the airbags did not deploy. As a result he was injured: jaw and head impact to the steering wheel. There was a report to the police. The contact has left a message with toyota.--ds

We were heading north and the other car was heading south.he decided at the last minute to make a left hand turn in front of us.we had no where to go and slammed into his passenger side and the airbags never deployed.we were both taken to the hospital via paramedics, and later released.after looking at a lot of minivans, i bought the sienna because of the supposed safety features, and when i felt the airbags should have deployed, they never did.i already had fibromyalgia and now i have to have pt because of the excessive bruising and sore muscles.it aggravated the condition that i already had.very disappointed in the performance of the airbags, or lack of.

Air bags are my complaint. I just purchsed a new toyota van with air bags. We have 4 children under 9 years of age and we car pool.the fron seat is useless due to the airbag. No toyota dealer in s.c. Will install an on/off switch due to liability concerns. I live in columbia s.c.no one in columbia will do this on a toyota.i need someone to install the on/off switch.and another thing. I need someone to do this at a reasonable price in my local area.requiring airbags for safety is fine, but i have got to have the on/off switch.please advise where i can get a siwtch installed in columbia s.c....and have a nice day...

Trying to report a failure of a child safety seat. Please advise process to do so.

The mechanism that retracts seat belt, has a ratchet option for car seat usage.during normal driving, the mechanism turns into ratchet mode, tightening and trapping child in belt.it left red burn on childs stomach.soffocation could have resulted in death had the child been sleeping during this trip.toyota checked out seat belt latch ( not mechanism ) and stated no latch defect.they ignored the multiple complaints that the mechanism is defective.

Power door locks have started to fail on my 1999 sienna le.the driver's door seems to be the problematic part of the system. The other doors seem to want to respond but driver door makes a 'click, click, click' sound and doesn't respond.key usually works to lock and unlock but not consistently.dangerous since people could be trapped in vehicle during an accident, etc and other possibly dangerous scenarios could occur.reporting this since it most likely has happened to others and wanted it on record.driver and others could be trapped inside which is dangerous.

The contact owns a 1999 toyota sienna. The contact stated that the horn would fail intermittently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technician was unable to diagnose the failure. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 150,000 and the current mileage was 225,000.

98e035000 the horn does not work.the alarm goes off without reason.the car will not start once the alarm goes off without reason

Power sliding door not latching properly; warning lite on; ecu short circuited; cannot verify if right sliding door is closed shut; exact problem on same vehicle taken from carson toyota in february; other vehicle's vin nr is [xxx].information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

I am the first owner of the 1999 toyota sienna le with which has only 61,000 miles so far. However, in the evening of two days ago, i started it and couldn't stop it anymore. It kept running even i took the key out. I was so afraid of causing fire eventually, but i still had to drive around trying to stop it. Eventually i smelt something burning and i was able to stop it from running. The car was towed to toyota dealer in dublin, ca to have the starter replaced. This is scary problem for the car i bought in the belief of safety and reliability.

Dt*:the contact stated while driving 35 mph on a rainy day on flat road conditions, the vehicle lost all back lights.the rain water created a short circuit on the vehicle harness cables in the hitcher.the cable harness was required to connect the trailer lights.the contact disconnected the harness cables to restore the vehicle back lights.the manufacturer was contacted who referred the contact to a dealership.

I was driving down the road when my van cut off and would not start back.i coasted into a driveway and smoke began coming from under my hood.i got out of my van to call my husband.by the time i had hung up the phone, there was black smoke pouring from out under the hood and it suddenly caught on fire.i immediately called 911, and the fire department came within 5 minutes.my van was a total loss.my van was fine when i left on this short trip, but then within 10 minutes, it was destroyed.we do not know what caused this fire.

Electrical problem with fuse #12 which controls the interior lights, clock, and remote access-keeps blowing.also the driver's seat belt warning light constantly flashes even when the belt is latched.driver's vanity light has dislodgedfrom visor.

Battery went dead suddenly.afterwards the dome fuse would blow intermittently. This knocks out all interior lights and the door lock control will not work unless the ignition is on. It appears that the $250 integration relay was shorted by the battery failure.

All the above data is an estimate becuase we are waiting for copies of all maintenance and repair records from toyota - - but we have had multiple problems with this vehicle including screeching brakes, left veer when driving, bad transmission (replaced twice),smog check failure due to oxygen sensor and/or engine problems, clunking noises in engine, a shuddering of vehicle when driving or braking.the car has been at dealers for as long as 3 weeks; dealer admits not knowing what is wrong.failed

Engine oil gelled/became sludged in july 2002, oil pump failed in november 2003

Oil sludge.started blowing at stop lights and all startups.calling toyota this week. This sienna is in mint condition.we bought it for safety and dependability for our 7 week old son.now we'll see if toyota stands behind it.this is our 1st toyota, but there are 7 lexus/toyotas' within our families.this engine is damaged and from what we have read, expect a complete new one.

Waiting to hear from toyota on our oil sludge engine failure problem. We are gathering the oil change receipts and were 1st told we did not maintain the vehicle. Now seeing that we are not alone with this issue.

Vehicle stalled while driving.driver was able to pull over, and tried to restart vehicle but was unable to do so.afterwards, driver had the vehicle towed to the dealer, but mechanic could not duplicate the problem.

Oil burns at high heat which causes the oil to develop into a gel. As a result, the engine fails prematurely.

Light blue smoke from tail pipe .oil cap dark brown

The consumer believed toyota was not honoring the customer support program as reported by owners, in regards to oil sludge build up in engines. Updated 05/04/10.

I am reporting another toyota sticky accelerator pedal.our 1999 sienna minivan has had 3 incidents of stuck accelerator, the most recent was jan. 21, 2010. I believe it has become "stuck" between 40 and 45mph.other incidents were in summer (cannot remember date) and october 2009.the 1st incident was brief and corrected quickly by pushing down on the pedal to "free it",the 2nd incident required braking and putting the car in neutral and shoving the pedal with my foot to the left and right to free it up.i was able to drive the car to the shoulder, turned the car off and then the pedal seemed to work ok,although a bit sluggish response.our mechanic fixed the throttle body and the car has not had another incident until last week.the most recent incident was more harrowing in that there was not much room to maneuver the car since we were headed for lots of cars stopped at a traffic light.i tried to slow the car by braking hard with the left foot and shoving the accelerator. Pedal down and side to side while in neutral but this did not work quickly like the october incident.i was able to pull over to a shoulder before crashing but it took much longer for the car to stop this time, and i actually threw the car in park to stop the car!i turned off the carand after a few minutes, was composed enough to drive it.our dealer will check the car jan 29. The floor mat does not appear to be involved jamming into the pedal, so it is probably a mechanical "catch" that is getting hung up when the pedal is down a certain distance.we thought the safety gurus would want to know.luckily no crashes have occurred yet!*tw

1999 toyota sienna engine froze up unexpectedly. Was advised it was possibly a sludge problem. This vehicle was purchased - used - in 2002 from a local dealer who will not accept any responsibility for the estimated $6850.00 engine replacement cost, even though toyota changed the engine warranty to 8 years/unlimited mileage.

My 1999 toyota sienna's engine suddenly froze up with slightly less than 72,000 miles on it. The engine is totally gone with estimates currently in the neighborhood of $8,000. This vehicle has been maintained as stated in the owners manual. The complaint is that toyota knows there is a problem with sienna's and has failed to do anything about notifying owners that oil changes need to be at 3000 mile intervals and that valves need to be checked very regularly. Since sludge build-up is obviously occurring in their vehicles, something needs to be done to protect the consumer. *la

Oil sludge (gelling) develops in engine resulting in the necessity to replace the engine at great cost.toyota states that they will pay for the repairs if all required maintenance has been performed, but they have refused to do so and have refused to let us speak with anyone with the authority to honor their warranty.

Engine of 1999 toyota sienna (van) had sludged engine oil in july 2002, dealer rebuilt engine.in november 2003, oil pump failed on same vehicle.dealer contends the failure of the oil pump is not related to the engine oil gelling/becoming sludge.since engine was rebuilt, owner has changed oil every 3,000 miles and has receipts to prove it. *la

My wife was driving on the florida turnpike with our sons (ages 3 and 1) in the vehicle.the engine light came on and the engine died.she coasted over to the side of the road.she stayed in vehicle and kept the boys in their car seats as she was along a major highway.a road side assistance vehicle pulled up behind her within a minute or two.he asked my wife what the problem was.she told him and he asked her to pop the hood.she did.he opened it and flames came out of the engine compartment.neither he nor my wife knew or suspected a fire.no flames.no smoke.no smell.no heat.he yelled to my wife to get herself and the kids out of the car.she did and they were all unharmed.he put the fire out with a fire extinguisher.obviously, my wife and children probably would have been killed had that road side assistant not been there.fl highway patrol arrived.the fhp officer filed incident report # fhpk05off042549.i had the vehicle towed to where i bought it, toyota of orlando (3800 w. Colonial drive orlando, fl 32808 407-298-4500)i video taped the burned engine and the vehicle from head to toe and will be happy to submit a copy to you.i was called by a mr. Manny colon of toyota of orlando.he explained to me that sludge build up was found and said that was probably the cause of the fire.i have records (with a different shop-goodyear) showing that the oil was changed regularly and not terribly long ago.there seems to be an extremely well documented (and acknowledged by toyota) sludge problem with toyota's - including the 99 sienna.i have found many articles on the internet and i am collecting them.i was never informed of this issue by anyone.if this issue can cause an engine fire, why are these vehicles being allowed on the road with families and children riding in them?my entire family almost died yesterday.please investigate this.i don't want others to die if it can be avoided.

The consumer statesvehicle is burning excessive oil. The consumer stated that oil was in the pan. The consumer stated that other owners have the same problem.*tc

Titan checkup engine analysis oil sample results revealed excessive fuel in the engine's oil after 6700 miles of driving.oil noted to be too thin and some lead from bearing scuffing noted.silicon also present in two oil analysis samples to date.possible fire hazard with reduced flash point.full investigation needed on 1998-2001 model siennas in conjunction with current engine fire investigation on the 2002 model.*aik

1999 toyota sienna is sitting in driveway for past 2 months with seized engine due to this "oil sludging" problem. Cost to repair over 6000 from dealer. Certified mail sent 2/18/04 to toyota motor sales in torrance, ca., with copy of maintenance records showing oil filter & oil changes.

All the oil ports were completely pluged and there was no warning either time.it is a wonder that with all the ports pluged and the engine both times not getting any oil to the upper engine that it did n ot freese up and cause a serious accadent.

A design flaw in the engine caused the engine to develop sludge, this is when the oil turns into a thick tar like goop that clogs the engine a oil systems, when the vehicle was take to the dealer it was stated that the only cause was improper maintenance which voids the customers warranty, there was no warning or indication that the engine as about to be damaged, the consumer had to have a new engine installed in their new vehicle.nlm

The engine seized while driving home on interstate 75.we had just had the oil changed before leaving on vacation.toyota said that we did not service the vehicle properly despite our having provided proof of oil changes. Toyota would not coverrepairs of $6200.the finance company reposessed the car because we could not afford to pay for it to be fixed.

Diagnosed as sludge in the engine due to "owner negligence"; owner has proof of regular oil changes and maintenance;owner accused of "never changing the oil"--not true;toyota is aware of the problem in their siennas and avalons, says we are ineligible for "assistance" because we are outside of the 60000 drive train warranty;properly maintained engines don't seize up at 64k miles!!we are outraged!!

At 44,000 miles we had to have our cylinder reground and this shouldn't happen.we changed oil every 5,000 miles like the owner's manual said.this is ridiculous that it should happen at all!this is a faulty engine.we should have recieved a new engine under warranty, not had the damned cylinders reground.now, they're telling us to change oil every 3,000 miles!what is going on?we've owned toyotas since 1969 and never had a problem with them--and certainly not something like this.this is poor quality of the engine and toyota should give us a new and improved engine to replace this one.

We feel that kingsporttoyota (kingsporttennessee) did not want to be bothered with this issue due to the fact that problems were starting to arise and consumers were questioningtoyota about sludge build upin the engines.

Purchased a manufacturer-certified sienna and it spewed blue smoke on the first cold start.engine sludge was blamed for the problem and the manufacturer covered the issue under warranty since the vehicle was certified and recently purchased.

Car using oil since 20000mi. 9/01 dealer found sludge in engine and claimed it was my fault and would not repair under warranty.

Excessive sledge build up in engine which caused engine failure. Manufacturer notified, and refused to honor warranty.feel free to provide any further details on this matter.

At 30,874 miles our van started blowing blue smoke.we took it to the dealer who told us that the engine had "sludged up" and would require at least $3,000 to fix.we were also told that it wasn't covered by warranty (3 year/36,000 miles).we asked why and were told that the sludge could only be caused by lack of maintenance (oil changes).we produced receipts showing oil changes were done, but the company still won't cover the work under warranty.we have spoke to the toyota's regional customer relations administrator and gone through the toyota provided arbitration proceedings to no avail.we went to the internet and searched under "toyota sienna sludge"and found dozens of other people having the same problem with their siennas and warranty coverage.we believe the is a defect in the sienna v6 engine causing the sludge build up.

Engine went out while driving 55 mph. Dealer replaced engine. Currently, new engine is making a rattling sound intermittently. Dealer cannot find problem with engine. Also, power locks are not working properly, sometimes it takes 3 or 4 times before doors will open.

Driving to phoenix, engine went in ogden utah, said sludge in engine, although have oil change receipts, toyota uninterested. Claims improper maintenance so no warranty coverage.

Blue smoke is coming fromtailpipe of vehicle.there issludge build up inengine. Dealer claims this was caused by non changing ofoil. Consumer stated that oilwas changed every 3000 miles. Engine needed to be rebuilt or replaced.

Sienna engine seized while traveling on interstate 75.we had just had the oil changed prior to leaving to go on vacation.toyota blamed us for the problem: said it was due to lack of vehicle maintenance despite our furnishing proof of regular oil changes.cost of replacement engine was estimated @ approx. $5000.we could not pay for the repairs and toyota would not cover them.van was reposessed by our finance company.we had to take out a home equity loan to pay off the balance of $6,000 owed to our finance company.

The engines in1999 sienna vans are possibly having early failure of the crankecase ventilation system that causes oil to sludge up and the engine begins to burn oil at a very early age.i recently de-sludged my van's engine and noted that the crankecase vent baffles are very narrow and had likley been stopped up for a long time.from the amount of postings on the internet about this problemthis is not an isolated problem with this model.

I have a toyota sienna 99 and my check light coming out and start to smoke so i find the engine do the oil be sludge, i want to know if is some way of toyota fix this problem for me whit out charge because is a manufacture problem.

Engine light appeared.oxegen sensor fried 5 times.

My van had first engine oil sludge problem at 32782 miles in march 2003. Finally toyota paid the repair cost after many phone calls.one year later, on july 5,2004, i found that there is no engine oil left again during the middle of our family vacation trip (at 46000 miles). And blue smoke comes out from exhaust pipe again. Toyota couldn't fix the problem by clearing changingsome parts. I request toyota replace the defect engine.

While driving vehicle consumer states" noticed blue smoke coming from exhaust. Took to dealer and they performed a engine overhaul.consumer feels engine may seize up.please provide any further information. Ts

Many incidences.first it was the brakes failing in6 month intervals, then it was the rubber gasket on the sliding doors, then the vibration, then the alighnment which caused me to replace my tires entirely too early.then it was the rust in the doors and hatch locks and continually it has been the problem with the sliding doors, then it was the rust on the locks, latches and hatch lock, continually it has been the anti lock brake light, then other bulbs.finally it is the engine light going on at 66,632 miles.it appears it is the engine or transmission.ipurchased toyota for quality and reliability.none of which the sienna lives up to.the toyota dealer has yet to fix any of the problems.the most recent transmission problem required me to call a tow truck , a friend to pick us up( my 3 young girls and i( over 40 miles away, secure a rental car for who know how long.i am exttremely disappointed with toyota for thiese defects and lack of repair!my family( i am one of 6 childre) we all own toyotas, i have owned many camrys before.this is my last toyota, because of reliability, service and quality.my siblings and my family alone own over 13 toyotas, that won't last long.i hope that toyota realizes the impact of faulty vehicles, faulty service and lack of quality how that will impact thier existing and future sales.

After stopping at a gas station to put fuel invehicle, and uponopeningfuel cap flames were coming frominside of the fuel tank, burning consumer's face. Fire investigator could not saywhat had caused fire.

While taking gas cap off flames shot out burning consumer's hair and face. Manufacturer has been notified . Please provide further information.

Engine check light intermittently would come on. Vehicle been in / out of dealer'sshop on six occasions, and was informed that the cap on the fuel tank was loose. Butproblem was reoccurring. Other then theengine check lightcoming on, how does this affect the vehicle? please give further details.

Both air to fuel sensors went in the fuel emissions part of the engine.my check engine light came on.i had to replace both the sensors.the part replacement for each was $375.42 not including thelabor.the parts had to be replaced to pass state inspection because it caused the check engine light to come on.it is an expensive piece that should be covered under the emissions warrenty, but is not.dt

Rear door handle came off in hand.power sliding door motor failed.power sliding door handle came off in hand.

Rear door handle broke leaving door unable to be opened.power sliding door does not work leaving door difficult to open.

Driver-side sliding door and the rear door on 1999 toyota sienna xle both went out of control at the same time. Both doors are locked and do not respond to repeated efforts to open them, by key or manually. The lock handle on the rear door is permanently depressed, i.e., no longer pressable, no longer acting like a movable part.

Intermittently both manual sliding doors are unable to open from inside.dealer was notified, and unwilling to assist. Stated thatvehicle was out of its warranty, and not covered under a manufacturesrecall. Manufacturer replaced locks, they paid for locks and consumer paid for labor.

Sliding door sticks tightly.difficult to open both from outside and inside.dealership says spilled juices but not.door latches replaced reluctantly.this is a safety concern!please help.

On back door of minivan, the outside handle broke when we squeezed it to open. The door cannot be opened. Why is there no release from the inside? the quote to fix is $275-300.also, on the rear sliding door (driver side, not an automatic sliding door), the push-button latch "sticks" so the door will not latch when closing; we have to pry the push-button out with a key or screw driver so the door will latch.

Sliding door does not lock into place, causingdoor to shut, which could become dangerous when passengers are entering or exitingvehicle. Please give any further.

The passenger side power door has been intermittent for some time but usually worked after several attempts. At a car mileage of 77,000 the door opened and would not close. It was closed with great force but lost control and audible warning signals.this created a safety problem with children in the rear seats.

Sliding door sticks.cleaned and lubricated door seals and contact surfaces.door does not appear to be loose or out of adjustment.i am afraid the door handle is going to break off because it takes so much force to open the door.

I bought a brand new toyota sienna ce in april, 1999. From the day 1, the passenger side sliding door is so tight that my teenage kid couldn't open. It is not safe in this way. It finally broke. I called toyota usa and toyota canada (toyota usa said this vehicle is in toyota canada's database, but i bought it at chicago's toyota dealer). Both toyota customer support refused to check and repair it! i believe it is design and manufacture problem.

Rear door latches do not catch, preventingdoors from fully closing. Consumer has contacteddealer. Dealer has replaced the latching mechanism. Please provide any further details.

Push button on both side sliding doors sticks in, preventing latching of doors.have to jimmy out the push button before the door will latch.lubrication helps temporarily, but the problem worsens during hot days.service dept. At dealer says that this is due to a problem with the latch assembly.replacing it, but no guarantee it won't happen again.

1999 sienna passanger side door. When open, if activated by remote or inside the vehical the door will continue to close even if an object is in the path of theclosing door. It does not stop and wait or warn you if someone/something is going to be caught in the door. Which has happend to my husband and my self.you have to have someome else reverse the door to let you out of it crushing you.this is not safe. I have small children getting in /out iof this van all day.the remote can be accidentially activated by holding it in your hand or placing iton the seat/floor of the van. This is what happend to us. The remote is hyperscentive my panic button goes off all of teh time just when holding the remote. My husabnd and i recieved large skin and mussle brusing and a few mouments of panic.i don't know what would happen if someone was not around to deactivate the door?

While trying to open the tailgate/trunk on my van the plastic piece that i would use to open the trunk snapped and broke. Now i can not open the latch, change the lights that are a safety concern. This part was very flimsy and plastic in nature and we did nothing out of the ordinary than we usually would do but now we can not use the trunk at all.

The rear hatch handle just snapped in my hand as i tried to open the hatch.dealer initially estimated repair costs at $350-$600 because they had to "break into the car."actual repair cost was $250 for a poorly designed part.mechanic told me the design and placement of the hatch handle is subject to constant exhaust fumes from the rear of the car, weakening the plastic handle.no inside hatch release is available making this a safety issue in the event the side doors are damaged in an accident.poor engineering.

Latch on van's back hatch door broke during opening, causing inability to open back hatch door. No excessive pressure was used during opening, only the normal gripping motion to open the latch.when brought to dealership we purchased van from, we were quoted $350, as they needed to "take the whole door apart."we took the van to two other places for an estimate, both which thought this was a recall issue (though according to the dealership this was not a recall issue).finally we brought the van to a private mechanic who ordered the $45 toyota part, and he was able to place it in less than 30 minutes without taking the door apart.

Rear tailgate door unable to open fromoutside. Dealer / manufacturer notified.feel free to provide any further details on this matter.

Hi, i was opening the trunk to my mini van.it is a horizontal latch and requires a squeeze to be opened.upon squeezing, something that felt like brittle plastic, snapped and broke.now the door can't be opened.the quote to fix it is $257.i did not use any monumental force to open the door, just a small squeeze. It seemed to be a cheap part that snapped.i wonder if this happens office.the service manager said she thought they had repaired one other door with this problem. Open the door.

The car was off, the key was not in the ignition. My two year old daughter was in the front of the car. She touched the shifter and it went between park and reverse; the car started rolling down our driveway. She did not press the brake (she is unable to) but the car went into reverse. The van hit a tree. We checked and the car was in between park and reverse. So, somehow, the car reversed even though it was in park, turned off, and the brake was not touched.

Speedometer not working at startup.after some driving, the needle begins to register.dealerships says a "sticky substance" (??) caused inoperative needle.

The contact owns a 1999 toyota sienna. The contact stated that after shifting into park, the gearing shifter arm fractured. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic for repair, who stated that the entire gear shift module would need to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure.the failure mileage was 90,000.

We currently own a 1999 sienna which has had transmission problems for about a month. It has been serviced according to the reccomended maintenance, with no towing of any kind. The van has 70,000 miles which is just over the warranty. Upon our first call to our local toyota dealership, there was only a statement from a representative stating the 5 year/60,000 mile warranty. No further assistance was given. Although upon a second call, a representative stated there was a noted problem with the transmission and it would most likely be covered under a recall. We are extremely thankful to our dealership and toyota for covering this obvious manufacturing defect.we also feel it extremely important that toyota list the problem and recall this particular model and year.

Transmissionfailure.

Transmission prematurely fails on 99 sienna after 61k miles. *nlm

Dt:99 toyota sienna.consumer started hearing a strange noise. Consumer took vehicle to mechanic and was told transmission is failing. Consumer says jubralta transmission said that at any point transmission could die.consumer took car to dealership and they wanted $85 to check.vehicle stayed with mechanic.as part of regular maintenance, transmission flush was being performed and there was a burning smell. Consumer that flush could finish off transmission.

Model: toyota sienna van - xleyear: 1999 mileage : 60600 other owners: there are many owners who have this issue as reported in www.cartrackers.com and www.edmunds.com - forums.problem reported: the sienna transmission is definately a problem in our case as mentioned by toyota dealer and many other owners at or near 60k miles. This is uncalled for of a toyota for which we pay a premium. I dodnot see any recalls and dealership charges maximum amount for labou - in our case upto $3200.details : we currently have a 1999 (5/1999) sienna van xle with 60600 miles. The van has been problem free until 2 weeks ago on the highway the check engine light came on. The dealership's initial the diagnosis indicated celluloid failure, then we were told torque failure and then yesterday the transmission itself. And we were charged at each - even though dealership probably knew it is transmission that requires replacement. This was shocking asit is just 600 miles over the warranty.further research of this problem on the internet and various forums as well as cartrackers.com it appears that there are many owners who have experienced identical problems at or near 60k miles some even earlier. I had been maintaining the van thru the same dealership (e.g. 15k,30k service etc.) and i donot tow boats etc. So there is no abuse as claimed occasionally. I think there is a real issue here with the transmission. How come so many have the identical issues at or near 60k miles. Thru the forums i gathered that few cases were reported at nhtsa site as so many cannot be wrong. Thus i would like join those - who had similar issues. The manufacturer should take the charge for the entire cost of replacing this or should recall all the vans. We are disappointedin the premature failure of the transmission as we believe this transmission problem is either a manufacturing or design defect.

Vehicle was given new vin: ny60536. Consumer's vehicle was at a stop and when accelerating it just shook, but did not move forward. Vehicle was towed to dealer, front axle shaft had broken.

Two seat belts in my 1999 toyota sienna have gotten "jammed".it happened suddenly with each belt, and they both jammed in the same month.they are not usable because they will not retract far enough to buckle, and one is even stuck retracted out.there is nothing that i can think of that would have caused this to happen.they are now permanently jammed, and i cannot find a way to fix it.toyota wants to charge $350 per seat belt and i cannot afford that, so the failure has not been corrected.i have talked to many other people with toyota vehicles that have had the same problem.

Middle rear seat seatbelt and buckle will not stay tight, child is able to wiggle right out ofseat. Seat belt keeps getting wider and wider the more one pulls on it. Consumer contacted dealer, and the dealer stated there was no part available to fix the problem. Please provide any further information.

Vehicle experienced a frontal collision at 45 mph inwhich both air bags failed to deploy.also, driver's seat belt, andmiddle captain's seat belt behind passenger's seat, failed to operate. No injuries reported, and manufacturer was notified.

Seat beltlocked in place and did not let the child out of the seat. Consumer contacted dealer, anddealer was not willing to do anything.

Due to location defectiverear left side shoulder belt got stuck in a "locked" position when it was not suppose to be in that position. Child got tangled in the locked shoulder belt since shoulder belt buckle was at the child's neck, which almost strangled the child, the mother had to cut the shoulder belt inorder to get the child out.there have been problems with the seatbelt system regarding it locking up when it's not suppose to.please provide further information.

This compliant is regarding two specific safety issues with a 1999 toyota sienna vehicle.on numerous occasions the rear hatch handle has broken. (3 handles so far) there is no release mechanism from the inside, so there is no way to get out the rear of the vehicle in case of fire or accident disabling the side doors.the part in question is poorly designed and is made of plastic. The plastic handle is under spring tension and accuates a metal part to release the door latch.the plastic is too weak to push against the metal part in normal use. The handle should also be made of metal to cure this defect.the latest and second safety defect involves the rear removable pod seats.the seat today will not lock in the normal seated position.an occupant can pull the seat up and out of the track if they lean forward enough. I would assume in an accident the entire seat would fly forward and cause serious injury in an emergency situation.

Rear brake drums squeak very loudly, problem first noted in april 03. According to thetoyota dealer, the problem is in the make of the drums and toyota is studying the problem but no time frame for its decision.

Wheel cylinders replaced.i was told it was because i have not replaced the brake fluid yearly since owning the car.

On october 18, 2010 my 2009 toyota sienna dashboard vsc (variable skid control)/off track and check engine lights illuminated.i took my van in for service immediately.the dealership made repairs that were covered under warranty, and assured me that the van was safe to drive. On november 24, 2010, the same vsc/off track and check engine lights illuminated again.when i returned to my local dealership for service, i was informed that due to the thanksgiving holiday, the service department did not have availability until november 30, 2010.service advisor assured me that my vehicle was safe to drive, as long as i stayed in town, and wasn't planning on taking the car on any long trips.however, i never got a chance to return my van to the dealership because on november 29, 2010 it started to make unusually loud noises and accelerated unexpectedly.naturally, i attempted to stop by braking, but the brakes were not functioning at all.i tried again and again to brake, but to my disappointment the brake pedal did nothing, no matter how much i pumped it.luckily, i was able to avoid hitting any pedestrians or cars by steering up the curb and into a lamppost.the van continued to accelerate uncontrollably until it finally came to rest on the steps of the county courthouse!

Driving on highway at 65 mphapplied brakes and the pedal went to the floor -- no braking occurred.happened once before on a city street. Seemingly random failure which the dealer says they have never heard of and have no knowledge of how to fix since it's intermittent.nothing has been changed since everything is supposedly working correctly.the dealer wants to see the car again if the problem occurs again -- but the car might be totaled by then - -hopefully no one will be hurt.

1999 toyota sienna 56000 miles ,, we were driving at 60 mph on i 294 south and the brakes completely failed ,,,my wife kept pumping them and lost control , we hit the median and the car rolled over thrice and ended up stopping on the roof ,, me, wife and two kids were safe by the will of god ,, all inseat belts ,,had gotten oil change ,routine maintenance 13 days ago ,, still have the receipt from jiffy lube that says brake fluid okay ,,,we are scared to drive any car now.

Our 1999 toyota sienna van has 73,000 miles we replaced the rotors 2 times andwe are still having problems with the brakes. When we apply the brakes we get vibration on the pedal. We are being told that this can be due to the weight of the van. Also it could be the brake system is to small for this van. Is this a manufacturing problem and is anyone else having the same problem.

Brake clunking noise when backing up.

Total brake failure in light, powdery snow conditions.skidded through a four-way stop when the brakes would not engage.longer braking distances noted at times.

When applying the brakesvehicle pulls to the left or right. Dealer couldn't duplicate the problem.

Consumerstarted to hear a slight squeak when stopping. Took vehicle to mechanic, and they said both right and left brake calipers were leaking.the dealer found out the fluid that was leaking was not brake fluid but was assembly lube.the consumer was told to return for inspection after 500 miles but was concerned about the vehicle's safety.

Both front brake calipers leaking fluid causing the brakes to squeak, the consumer was notified that there was a technical stop sales order issued on all brake parts and the dealer had to wait for parts.nlm

Front brake calipers were leaking fluid. Dealer was contacted.

Severe vibration at 60 mph.exit highway and towed van to dealership.state rear brake drums "warped from heat" and were replaced.brake shoe may be sticking!please explain.

Rear brakes squeal since day one.

Shortly after purchasing my 1999 toyota sienna minivan, in may, 1999, i noticed a severe pulling to the right.i could not let go of my steering wheel for even a second or this vehicle would pull.i took it to our local toyota dealership (neill sandler in murfreesboro, tn) and they said there was nothing wrong with it.i took it another dealer and the lady working there just acted like it was in my head.later i tried taking it to the dealership that i bought it from and they would not diagnose it since i had taken it to the other dealership - would not even look at the problem.right before the warranty expired, in 2002, my husband took it to the local dealer and the lady there still acted like we were crazy.luckily, the service manager overheard our conversation and offered to drive the vehicle.after returning from his drive, he stated that it was the worse driven vehicle he had ever been in.they ended up bending the frame as the problem could not be "solved" any other way and he also suggested that after buying new tires it would be better, and it was, for a while.since that time, we have continued to have trouble with it, and have purchased at least three sets of front tires for the vehicle.it continues to pull and we just thought that it might be worth mentioning after seeing your website.

Toyota 1999 sienna ce:steering pulls to left.i have to hold steering tight to keep it to right.i already got alignment done two times and new tires changed but pulling to left starts right away.it is very disappointing.

While driving steering system malfunction ed,causingloss of steering abilitywhich almost resulted ina crash.dealer replacedrack guide sub assembly pertechnical service bulletin.also, both sliding door power locks malfunctionedwas unable to open frominside or outside, which in case of emergency, those sliding doors could not be used.dealer had to replacelocks.but, soda spilled intorubber of door and causedthem to stick. The steering wheel locks upwhen attempting left hand turns and extreeme force must be used to compensate.

When traveling and upon making a left hand turn steering wheel sticks in one position, causing poor steering control. Also, after applying excessive force to the steering wheel, the steering wheel goes back into position. Consumer has yet to contact the dealer. Please provide any further details. Pe99-070.

The van pulls to the left and the steering wheel does not return to a centered position when making turns. I first reported this to the dealer 2 weeks after i bought the vehicle and since have had it in the shop 5 times for this problem. The toyota salesman acknowledged that there was a problem with the car (since i gave it to him to test drive) yet the service department has not been able to fix it. This is a dangerous problem, an accident waiting to happen. I wrote the president of toyota a letter about an incident 3 months ago where i almost went into on-coming traffic because i had to pick up some change from the floor and the car drifted to the left. If i don't keep a tight grip on the wheel, in some conditions, it will immediately go into the other lane. Calls to toyota went unconcerned and the letter to the president of toyota went unanswered.

While driving steering wheel moves by itself to the left or the right, consumer feels that this is unsafe because vehicle will turn by itself. *ml

While driving and making a left hand turn the steering wheel locks up on the vehicle.

Steering wheel malfunctions.yh

When making left turn above 20 miles per hour, steering wheel locks up and must wrestle it to return to center.

Upon acceleration and making a left hand turn, steering wheel stuck, causing poor steering control. Consumer has contacteddealer, dealer has yet to determine the cause. Please provide any further details.

Steering wheel "locks" when returning from left turn while accelerating.requires strong pull to return wheel to straight ahead position.occurs intermitently, but repeatedly.dealer "can find no problem."

In early 2001, this vehicle had binding in steering, returning to center from left turns.dealer repaired with kit from a service bulletin, at no charge, under warranty.at some point later in 2001, vehicle occasionally lost power assist turning left.incidents are becoming more frequent.both problems limit steering control, usually at low speeds, requiring fast driver corrections to avoid collisions.arrangement is being made to diagnose and correct the latest problem.both faults seem connected and should be studied, as they are safety hazards, and there was a service bulletin on the earlier problem that does not show up in the nhtsa data base.

While drivingthe driver heard a loud noise coming from the frontof the vehicle. The driver was able to pulled over and noticed that fluid was leaking from underneath the vehicle.the vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection.the mechanic informed the driver that the power steering hose needed to be replaced.please provide further details.

Clock will not operate at cold tempriture (below 30 degrees f)

When making a left turn vehicle continues to turn left unless manually turning steering back to right, and clicking is heard.*adj

When turning the steering wheel to the left, the steering wheel does not return smoothly. The dealer is replacing the rack and pinion because of the problem.dealer required one month to fix properly.

Rack and pinion failure caused excessive tire wear and vehicle pulling.*mjs

The van has a problem with sticky return-to-center after 90 degree left turn.tends to happen if speed is above 20 miles per hour during turn.require jerking or swerving to return to center after a left turn.my wife thought i was swerving since the car was swaying but i was just trying to prevent us from making a full circle to the left.the sticking problem happens irrespective of road condition.i have reported it to the dealer, who checked the fluid but did not pursue the problem.

I am writing in regards to my 1999 toyota sienna xle. We have had (and loved) this car for all of it 134,000 miles, but recently the power sliding door (on the passenger side) stopped working. Using brute force, an adult can manually pull the door open and shut, but a child cannot. My local toyota admits that this is a "design issue" and that he's seen "dozens" of such cases, but that has no bearing on the fact that it costs upwards of $1600 to make the fix. This hardly seems fair, reasonable or safe. I'm sure toyota will spring into action once a van with a sliding door is involved in an accident where a child is trapped and hurt, but it's too bad that it will have to come to that for them to do what's clearly right. The nhtsa should investigate this issue further -- a recall of some kind is clearly warranted.

1999 toyota sienna.consumer requestsreimbursement of faulty tire carrier repairs.the consumer stated in early 2006, he noticed the spare tire carrier was inoperable, and apparently, it had rusted in place. He took the vehicle to a service repair station, where they replaced the corroded spare tire assembly at a cost of $300. Sometime later, the consumer received a recall notice in the mail, regarding the problem he previously experienced.the consumer then submitted the paperwork for reimbursement. However, toyota denied the request, based on the fact, the consumer did not have the work performed at an authorized toyota dealership showing completion of ssc a9e.the consumer then went to an authorized toyota dealer to have the recall performed. Toyota denied the reimbursement again, in a letter which stated the repair that was performed did not meet the criteria for reimbursement under the special service campaign ssc a9e.updated 02/06/13.

I have owned my 1999 sienna for 5 years.two months after purchasing my rear hatch door handle snapped.3 years later it happened again.now, every door handle on the van is broke.the slider doors stick causing you to have to pull hard on the doors to open.(and they were not sticky from soda)last month both the driver and the passenger front door handles broke.the design of the handles are poor in that the weight is not evenly distributed why pulling the handle.it all on one side and the weaker side snaps.the rear is a cheap plastic that snaps for no reason.if you go on the web there are numerous complaints of the rear hatch and the sliding door handles breaking.

Toyota sienna 1999 the power sliding door giving a problem from last three years and now completely jam, neither open nor closes. The other side door handle is very poor quality and broke twice now.

Passenger power sliding door failed.

The contact owns a 1999 toyota sienna. The contact stated that the front and rear bumper failed. The bumper was made with defective material that caused the bumper to crack and dent easily when struck. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure.the failure mileage was 100,000 and the current mileage was 130,000.

The cable to my drivers side sliding door snapped, thus the door can no longer be opened automatically. This defect is under a warranty enhancement for model years 2004-2007, but i have a 2009 model year.

Rear door handle broke leaving one unable to open rear door.

The consumer backed into a retaining wall at 2 mph and damaged the rear bumper. The consumer stated that the design of the bumper was inadequate for the purpose it was intended and the manufacturer should be partly responsible for the damage.

The power sliding door is dangerous to small children.it requires to much pressure to stop if something is in its way while closing. I have to disable the power door which leaves the door virtually impossible for me to use now. All they need to do is to put a light sensor that will not allow the door to close at all if something is in the way of the door (like garage doors) . The power door will stop and go back if it hits something first. But a 30 pound child cannot take that kind of pressure on his neck! i know these are relatively new trucks on the market, and i hope that no small child will be injured.

Rear door handle came off in hand.power sliding door motor failed.power sliding door handle came off in hand.

Automatic doors do not fucntion properly.doors do not automatically open if a person's body part has gotten caught in the door. Dealer has not seen vehicle.

Since i have owned my 1999, the rear hatch handle is broken twice and the sliding door handle on the driver side has also broken.we i call for parts i find out that the rear is on back order due to it being such in demand for replacement.i also found out that another sienna owner was calling for the same issue with the sliding door handle.its seems these handles are made very poor and do not withstand the pull action required to open and close the door.on the rear, there is a tiny piece that constantly breaks off causing the handle to be replaced.

This has been very frustruating because we have not had use of the passenger side door for about a third of the time we have owned the vehicle, and i can not get anyone at toyota to take this defect seriously. I would rather not wait until someone is injured or killed.dt

The passenger side rear power sliding door has intermittent problems.3 different symptons exist for the failing door: 1) power door is closed using one of the three remote buttons; the power door open light stays on; the door ajar light is not on;power door alarm buzzes when put in gear.2)power door is closed using one the remote buttons; the power door automatically opens again.3)the power door is closed using the remote buttons; the power door will not close at all. The power motor tries to close, but won't.when you manually try to help it along, it just opens up again.in all 3 situations, the door will suddenly work fine for a week or two and then begin having problems again. The first 2 times the door failed, we brought it to the dealer just to be told "no problem be found".so, we waited for the power door to fail completely. When it did, we brought it in for the 3rd time (9/00).the motor and computer were replaced.a month later (10/00), the first and second symptom began appearing. The dealer said it was an adjustment.a month later (11/00), the same problems occurred; the dealer made another adjustment.a month later (12/00), the same problem occurred; the dealer made another adjustment. A month later (1/01), the same problems occurred.this time the dealer said it was caused by low voltage and gave us a new battery. It continued to fail. This time, we waited until it got so bad the power door wouldn't close at all.3 months later (4/01), the 3rd of the symptoms occurs. The dealer put another new motor and computer in the door.only this time they also told us that we could not manually operate the door unless the power door was turned off.if we did, it would cause damage to the motor and computer.this is unacceptable.

The driver side rear sliding door has had an intermittent "sticking" problem.the sticking problem got to the point where a 200 pound man could barely open it.on the first 2 occasions, we brought it to the toyota dealer where that stated "no problem found".the last 2 times, the toyota dealer agreed it was a problem, but blamed in on spilled juice or cola (which was not the case).the dealer cleaned the doors thoroughly both times, just to have the problem come up again.i refuse to believe that a little spilled juice or coke could cause such a suction that a door could not be opened.this is a safety issue.what if a child got in the car and could not get out because the door was stuck closed.this is not the same problem reported by others regarding the button staying pushed in.this problem when you try to open the door, there is such a suction that it cannot easily be opened.

Passenger side power door started opening and shutting by itself after opening to allow children to enter vehicle.the door attempted to close and did not stop, even when encountering the body of my child.fortunately he was our oldest child and wasable to move quickly enough to only be bruised on his sides. Turned power off to door and tried to determine cause.opened door manually and closed again - door would not reopen manually, even with substantial force. Dealership claims "normal wear and tear" and wants $1200 to repair damage to door hinge and motor assembly.

Cable on passenger side sliding door of 1999 toyota sienna van snapped and now the door will not open at all.

Automatic sliding door came off of the tracks. Dealerhas repaired the vehicle, andproblem has reoccurred.

Engine went out while driving 55 mph. Dealer replaced engine. Currently, new engine is making a rattling sound intermittently. Dealer cannot find problem with engine. Also, power locks are not working properly, sometimes it takes 3 or 4 times before doors will open.

Consumer states that they had to replace the door handle twice because the sliding door handles will lock up and the consumer is unable to open the door. Dealer notified.mr

The sliding electronic doorwill not stay closed.when the door was closed, it would reopen on its own.the vehicle has been examined twice by the dealer. Dealer claimed that the electrical drive in the door should be replaced. The door could be opened and closed manually, but with difficulty. *sc

They should use bottles.please provide further information.

This was not an equipment failure but a design failure.on a hot july evening i chose to remain in the car while my husband went in a store.he absentmindedly took the keys and hit the automatic lock button on the keyfob.i then tried to open a door from inside.this triggered the alarm and the door would not open, trapping me inside.there was no way to open a window or a door. I got hotter and began to feel suffocated.finally i was able to attract the attention of a passerby who could hear me through the window, and who got my husband.this is a very unsafe situation, not to be able to open the car from the inside.in other circumstances (my husband gone longer, no help nearby) it could lead to a suffocation or heat-stroke death.

Both the sliding doors had been rattling since i bought the van. The dealer said that i would need to replace the door handles with complete assembly, which i do not plan to spend my money for. I believe it is mfr's responsibilty to fix them. Also i had replaced the rear door latch that is apparently made of very cheap plastic and had broke off. All the front dash vents first cracked and broke off within the second year, none of which was covered under warranty.

Electric sliding side door fails to consistantly close creating a safety hazard because it won't lock and has the potential for driver to drive while the door is open as it is very difficult to manually close the electronic side door. Defect reported to dealer 3 occasions under 36k warrenty and were unable to make permanent repair. 9.10.02 service visit replaced door latch ($300) and retimed door. Intermittant door failure reduced after service visit but not eliminated. Dealer admits many complaints with this door and that the door requires servicing (timing)that is not listed on manufacturers owners manual. Neighbor also has same model van with exact same failure experiences. Mr

Electric sliding door intermittently will not fully close and latch.jlg

Next to the power sliding door there is a "power door" switch. This switch continues to operate even if the child lock is on for that door. My son could easily open the power door even if the child lock is on to my surprise. Toyota says to to turn off power door function off using the switch on the front dash board. The problem is one has to remember to turn it off every time one enters the vehicle. This is not feasible and the child will hit the pwr door switch near the door and fall off the vehicle. This is a very critical safety concern to me with three children. I can permanently turn off the power door option but the problem is ,in that case the power door becomes very hard to operate manually as it requires lot of extra force to open or close.

Upper door mount pillar cracked due to overextension hinge guard failure.

Driver's door was opened and a gust of wind grabbed the door and snatched it offthe hinges.the pins popped out, and the door could not be closed.the dealer claimed that the door hinges were not a part of the warranty.

I tried to open the rear exterior door in the back and the handle made a snapping sound and is now stuck in the open position and now the door will not open on the outside and i don't see a way to open it on the inside. I purchased the van to transport my grandkids. Now i'm fearful to take them anywhere in it now for their safety reasons. Just in case i have to get in that way for an emergency.

The rear door of our 1999 sienna van has already broken twice since we purchased it 5 years ago.i replaced it once, but cannot afford to again.as a result, i cannot get to the back which also prevents me from getting to my spare tire should i need it.in addition, when the back handle broke a year ago a week later a sliding door handle.now, three days ago, another sliding door has broken.i have no money to replace this handles and it will run about 1,000 to fix all three.further, the sliding door panels keep lifting and i have tried replacing the pegs with no luck.i have never owned a car that has had no many issue with door handles.they should last the life time of the car.i see throughout the web others who have complained about the same issue.when i call for used parts, they are backed ordered because there are no many request for them.especially the back door one.i really believe they are defective and were not made to with stand open and closing on a daily bases.i think they made them thinking they would be on doors that automatically released and opened versus manual doors.

This vehicle has a dangerous "drifting" problem, the vehicle is hard to control when traveling on the highway. The steering column has been replaced by dealer, but the problem still exists. I have appointment to return the vehicle to the service dept. Again.this is a very serious problem that needs to be investigated.there are several other issues with the van, i'm hoping the dealer can rectify.

Since day one the vehicle pulled to the left when moving forward. The dealer has tried realignment/new tires. This greatly reduced the pulling but the vehicle still exhibits a bias to steer into on coming traffic (left). A toyota technician has told me the fix would be to replace the rear axle beam.

I hear a metallic "popping" noise from the from wheel area when i backup or begin to drive.the van has been looked at twice by dealer and the service techs are unable to duplicate the noise.

When drivingvehicle pulled to the right.contacted dealer, and they have done an alignment twice, andvehicle is still having the problem.

Unstable suspension, van pulls to left, recurring electrical failures.

Toyota 1999 sienna ce:steering pulls to left.i have to hold steering tight to keep it to right.i already got alignment done two times and new tires changed but pulling to left starts right away.it is very disappointing.

Pulling to one side constant.tires cross-rotated and pull changes to opposite side.tires replaced, problem recurs.tires have been replaced two times without permanent fix.tires have gotten only 15,000 miles and 5,000 miles respectively.unsafe driving conditions with pull and potential for tire blowout due to premature wear.u.

While traveling steering wheel pulled to left, causing consumer to fight with the steering wheel to return to normal.manufacturer has been contacted . Please provide further informaton.

Constant pull to right.tires rotated and then severe vibrations at 60 mph.new tires at 17,500 miles and replaced inner rack rods, but pull continues.

There is a "road drift" problem.alignments have not fixed the road drift problem.

Vehicle pulls to the right, has been realigned but continues to pull.

We have had extensive pulling problems and excessive tire wear with our sienna from the 2nd month we have owned it.the tires are very worn out on the outer edges with only 18000 miles.we have had it into our dealer 5 times to fix the problem.we are aware after doing extensive research through the internetthat many siennas on the road have this problem and toyota is aware of it, but continues to put people off.i live in the northwest where we have many rainy days and my vehicle is unstable in the rain, with alot of slippage in the tires.this a known problem with the sienna, as evidenced by our research through edmunds.com's town hall which is a forum for people with problem vehicles.numerous people have reported excessive tire wear which is unsafe and a potential hazard. Thank you for taking my comments into consideration.i know i am only one person, but the i consider the safety of my children important enough to make my experiences heard.thank you, laurie a. Shank.

The firestone tire on the vehicle experienced a blow out while driving. *mjs

Firestone affinity (p215/65r15) tire blew out while driving.nlm

Tire blew out suddenly and shredded before we could stop.the tire was only 9 months old and had about 11,000 miles on it.no road hazards (like nails, etc) were found to have caused the blow out. (tiresize: 21565r15)( dot number: tire size: 21565r15 )

We just replaced 3rd sets tires, independent shop has to replace parts when dealer claim no problem.

At 65mph, tire sensor indicated problem.upon removing the front left firestone affinity tire, found a 7.5" separation between the tread and the interior sidewall, with the steel belt in view.further inspection revealed similar wear on front right tire.normal pressures and alignment had been maintained through routine service.local firestone dealer claims tire was not defective, despite toyota indications to that effect and similar experiences with other firestone tires.although i have replaced all four tires, i have retained the defective tire to support investigation. Digital photos of the tire are also available. (dot number: w2vfait099tiresize: p215/65r15)

Loose spare tire in cargo seating area of toyota sienna 1999 van. Due to a recall on the corrosion of the spare tire cable, the spare tire was removed and placed in the cargo area of the van. The tire is not secured down and moves around during driving. If there was any type of accident, especially a roll over, the tire with the rim would be able to move around the seating area and could cause severe injuries. I do not feel safe driving this vehicle. I did call toyota with my concern with the tire not being secured, they gave me a case number and told me that there was nothing they could do at this time.

Front tires are unevenly worn without no alignment problem reported from dealer's service department.

"low tire" indicator came on about 1/4 of a mile from home.tire was replaced with "spare" and upon inspection, found tire to be damaged along the seams or threads.all tires are showing "cracks"along the seams at different places on the tire.dealer said tire's guarantee is for 1 year by manufacturer or 36,00 miles in a three year period.i will replace tire at my expense since it seems,i don't have much of a choice.pls keep me informed of future complaints on this situation.(dot number: w2vftiresize: p215/65r15)

Our front tires failed by blow out on the right side.left side was just as bad but not blown out.was paper thin on inside corners of tires.had had rotated at 16000 miles and nothing was reported wrong.i know these tires are not the being recalled, and toyota has reimbursed us for a new set of goodyears; but the whole thing is too scary in light of what's going on now with firestones.just wanted to let you know.thanks...robert( dot number: tire size: p205/75r15 )

Left rear tire blew out (dunlop sp 40 a/s (215/65 r15-95s), the disintegrated tire tore out the inner wheel well assembly, low tire pressure warning did not go off until blow out occurred.*mjs

I had a flat tire and replaced the flat with a different manufacturer than the other 3 tires.because there is 1/16th" difference in the tire depth the warning light will not stay out even after resetting it.toyota says that as long as the tires are different the light will not stay out.i say i'm not the only one to ever have a flat tire and replace it with a different manufacturer's tire and there needs to be an adjustment made in the sensor.i didn't ask for this feature; it came with the car.if they're going to put something like this on their cars (and they are planning on putting it on all their new models) they need to have a way to adjust it.it also startles me when the light comes on because i think there's something wrong with the car.

All 4 tires on vehicle have "bulges" on the exterior sidewalls, did not check interior sidewalls.the left side bulges are the worst, the front being the worst of all.the bulges are nearer to the tread than the center of tire.there are apprx 3 to 5 bulges around the perimeter of the tires. There is no noticible performance issues at this time, but having all tires like this makes me very nervous.i did have a sidewall failure a few months after i purchased the van, but i attributed it to a low speed bump into a low curb as i was making a right hand turn into a gas station. (dot number: w2mof61019tiresize: p205/70r15)

Sidewall of tire delaminated or separated. (dot number: w2vftiresize: p215/65r15)

While driving, my spare tire fell from underneath my car due to the fact that the cables snapped.the car behind me ran over it and i am now being charged for the damages to that person's car.

Consumer experienced a tire blow out (firestone o.e.), however was denied reimbursement from manufacturer because the tires he has are not included in the voluntary safety recall.

Consumer was traveling at a low speed and steering wheel was bumping and vibrating. Onthree tires treadwas separated. Tires were firestone fr680, and tire size p205/70r15 95s m/f.

When i noticed that the horn did not work, i went to my nearest toyota service agency.however, they told me that the horn was functional and that the problem was a wear in the system.this worn out part is supposedly between the rod of the wheel and the horn, which no longer makes the proper connection.and yet, this connection is suitably rendered from this worn out part when the steering wheel is completely turned to either side.they estimated a $1000 charge to fix this matter.their conclusion was based on the fact that this issue could not be simply replaced.they mentioned that the only remedy was to change the whole system.personally, i cannot believe that it''s so expensive to fix this deficiency.something as miniscule as a bad connector should not impact the whole system unless it''s a manufacturing defect.because of the simple fact that my horn is only used rarely and the way the mechanics reacted to the problem, i find that this is mostly ''a sienna problem''.

I want to report a scary incident occurred yesterday with my minivan. On 2/11/2011, at about 7 am, i started by toyota sienna to send my son to his high school, i heard strange noise.it sounds like not all the cylinders were runnung.the car was not powerful as usual. I tried to turn off my van, by turning the key to stop and taking key out.the can did not stop.i inserted the key to start again, it still had the noise.i drove my son to his high school any, which is less than a mile away.after dropping him off at the school, i drove back to home. When i was close to my i saw the temperature meter was midway. When i got to home, i stopped my car in front of my house, took the key out. The engine was still running. I opened the hood, saw smoke came out from the engine area. Although no flame was started, i used my house fire distinguished to put out the smoke. Then the engine stopped. The car died in front of my house on my drive way. I reported this incident to toyota today.

The senstive sliding door remote controlcauses the sliding door to open and close unexpectedly which caused personal injuries while taking out the groceries.dealer said that's way the control is.please provide further information.

Indicator which contols many other components including abs does not work unless all four tires are exactly the same.this indicator controls the tire size and not the pressure as indicated in the sales brochure.the problem is that if you replace just one tire when you have a failure you have to replace all four no matter what the wear on the other three are.otherwise the indicator light will continue to cycle on and off.i did not stop when i really had a flat tire and thus was put in a stranded situation with 2 infants in 103 degree weather.toyota says they are aware of the problem but refuse to correct it.the system will ultimately over correct itself and interfere with other critical components unless every time you change one tire you replace all four.what a maintenance nightmare !( dot number: )

Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)my 1999 toyota sienna, at times unintended accelerated. I was involved in an accident in 2002 with this problem. The van accelerated at i hit a pole. Occasionally it appears that still do the same at times. I take to the dealer one time and they did not se anything wrong. I am driving really carefully now keeping always two three car distance. Need assistance[xxx]

The van has sudden acceleration problem at times it is hard to slow it down even stop it. The problem mainly occurs from stop and go especially if it has been parked for few hours.

The contact owns a 1999 toyota sienna. While driving approximately 45 mph, the vehicle suddenly accelerated. The contact continued to depress the brake pedal until the vehicle responded and came to a stop. The failure was intermittent and recurred while driving at different speeds. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostics or repairs. The approximate failure mileage was 125,000.

While stopping at a traffic light rear window explodedwithout warning into little pieces, that shatteredcompletely.there was no collision involved to cause this.consumer felt this was unsafe because children were present.

I was driving at approximately 35 mph and the left, rear window blew up.the glass spewed all of the back of the car.luckily, i had just dropped off my kindergarter at school and no one was injurred.i called the police and he said it didn't look like anything hit it.he said that sometimes when the window slightly opens like this one does when i push the button it makes the window weaker.i didn't have the window opened and if that vent makes the windows explode, they shouldn't be installed in the cars where children and others can be hurt.if anyone was sitting in the back, they could've been seriously wounded.is there any other reports of this happening with back auto windows in mini vans?now i'm afraid the other side window is going to blow and hurt someone.dt

While drivingat 35 mphdriver's side back window shatteredwithout warning. Please provide any further information.

I noticed distortion when looking through the windshield. Delray toyota replaced the glass twice. The distortion is still there, but you see it in different areas of each new windshield. The dealer thinks i might get a good piece of "after market" glass since each of the windshields supplied by toyota has this problem. The windshield looks like it was moved before it cured properly. This gives a "melted" appearance to the glass. Some people mention the reflection from the dashboard causing a distortion problem, but that is easily noticable and not what i am describing here.

Reflection of the dashboard in the windshield creates a distortion which impairs visibility, andcould result in a collision.

While driving, my spare tire fell from underneath my car due to the fact that the cables snapped.the car behind me ran over it and i am now being charged for the damages to that person's car.

Lugs: nuts are defective, causingtire to fall off .dealer has been notified.
