2003 toyota sequoia.consumer writes in regards to remedy not available in a reasonable period of time to repair front passenger airbag inflator recall notice.

While driving down a familiar two lane road with many curves and not reaching a speed above 45 mph, i came upon a curve, braked, and steered my sequoia appropriately. I was driving on the outside of the curve, but when i tried to turn with the curve, my sequoia headed toward the oncoming lane of traffic. As it veered toward the fence posts on the other side of the road, i could not slow it down or steer it back to my lane. No matter how i pressed the brakes, it would not slow down but instead sped up. The last i remember is the realization that i could do nothing to stop or steer my sequoia. I rolled it 3 1/2 times (through the fence and then back through it again in another spot). Many thanks to god, my3 year old made it out with but one small scratch on his arm and a huge fear. However, it took them 1 1/2 hours to get me out and then i had to be care-flighted due to facial injuries, head trauma, and disfigured left arm. Although my sequoia was supposed to be equipped with side impact airbags along with front airbags not a single airbag deployed. I know certain sensors have to be activated to inflate an airbag so i feel i need to mention that this vehicle no longer resembled a sequoia. No headlights remained, all windows were gone, the dash, hood and roof collapsed in on me. It took me five weeks to get behind the wheel again after feeling such helplessness. Last week i received a post card about toyota recalls that involved my sequoia so i decided to look it up. I got very sick reading the recalls and investigations that are related to what i experienced. It is very upsetting that i trusted toyota for my family and that the accident could have been prevented.

2003 toyota sequoia. (cel) light on. Also (trac off) light on as well as (vsc trac) light on. Sometimes brake light and abs light stay on for days . I had truck in shop 3 wks ago with this problem they said it was oxygen sensor 2 (i believe) had is replaced and light went off. Light is back on again 2 weeks later. Car sputters when accelerating. Doesn't feel safe to drive. Also 2 months prior i had the car in for routine maintenance. Fluids, filters, tires rotated, ect as usual.

Takata recall

Two months after purchasing the vehicle, vsc and trac off lights became illuminated, no other symptoms.stayed on for 2 days then disappeared again.two months later the brake light had become illuminated, put it in park to load passengers, and when returned to drive, the vsc and trac off lights were illuminated and a grinding sound was heard when applying brakes - along with the vehicle pulling to the right.turned the car off, checked fluids and fuses, when restarted only brake light was illuminated and car appeared to be driving normally.took it in to toyota today to have the problem checked out as the brake light is still on, and the grinding noise was a concern - and am told the brake booster needs to be replaced.in all my research on this, i'm very concerned as it appears to be quite a common problem, and on a search of my vin it says that my vehicle is not affected by the recall (although i was told at the dealer that my ecu was 'flashed to the updated programming') current cost quoted is $1,508 - but was also told that once the booster is installed they have to re-run their check and it may not be the only problem.this is very disappointing as we own 2 other toyotas, and purchased this car as a daily driver to take our children to school, everything i've seen regarding these issues leaves me very concerned for their safety.

I own a 2003 toyota sequoia and the oil pressure sending unit is failing to report the proper oil information.it fluctuates at random times dropping to the low mark and will remain there for minutes at a time.if this sending unit does not inform me of the true representation of oil pressure, it could potentially damage my vehicle engine and hope that toyota recalls this part because i have seen hundreds of blogs from other toyota owners reporting this same issue.

I recently purchased a 2003 sequoia and have become aware that the vsc trac, vsc off, abs lights always remain on. My mechanic ran the codes and has advised me that i need a new deceleration sensor. After some research online i see that i am not alone and so would like to voice my concern about this faulty sensor and ask that toyota give a response to why so many vehicles of this era have this specific problem.

The contact owns a 2003 toyota sequoia sr5. When pressure was applied to the brake pedal, the vsc/abs/brake controller warning light illuminated intermittently on the instrument panel and the front end of the vehicle began shaking excessively. The vehicle was taken to the dealer multiple times in which the technicians concluded that the computerized system sensor failed. The technicians replaced the translate computer, the ecu,the transmission temperature sensor, and the brake power booster. None of the repairs have remedied the failure. The manufacturer was investigating the failures. The failure mileage was 9,322 and the current mileage was 122,000. Updated 11/10/09 the consumer stated the vsc/brake and abs lights have been on, since taking ownership of the vehicle. When the lights are on, the front of the vehicle shakes and the vehicle looses power for approximately 2-3 seconds and then regains power again. The skid control computer and brake power booster were replaced. Updated 11/16/09

The vsc and trac lights started coming after a clucking sound heard from underneath the car followed by a loss of power.after turning the car off and back on again it goes away.but it comes back intermittently.the problem needs to be fixed. I am concerned about the safety of my family as we will need to go on a long family trip in a few weeks.please help.

There were no particular events leading up to the failure of our toyota sequoia 's 'yaw sensor'.the car was being driven in normal conditions when the vcs and abs warning lights came on and the vehicle seemed to shake/shift when this happened.fortunately, there was no injury or incident other than needing to take the vehicle into the shot to have the issue diagnosed and repairs completed.repair required the installation of a new yaw sensor to be installed by the dealership.the old parts have been requested from the dealer for us to retain.

In december 2010 we took our toyota sequoia 2003 to fix the defects mentioned in the ea09006 nhtsa action number vicksburg toyota dealership in vicksburg, ms. At the moment the dealership informed us that the ecu could not reflash. However, the ecu was not replaced as specified in the recall. A week ago, once again, the vsc ecu lights turned on. Again we took the car to the dealership and have been told that the ecu is completely damaged and i have to incur an expense of $ 650 to replace the unit. I've been trying to talk with toyota, however, they have indicated to me that the new problem has nothing to do with the recall 1. Toyota evaded their responsibility to change the unit so that the problem was never corrected recall2. If the recall required the unit was replaced by a new one could not reflash the unit. Toyota is putting the safety of my family and those close to our vehicle drivers when driven3. We hope that the nhtsa can protect our lives and those who face these problems of lack of accountability of toyota and its dealers.

Vsc & trac lights stay on as well as check engine light.

Vehicle stability control system failure...vsc, trac, and abs failure...all 2003 toyota sequoia.

I was on the freeway and started to change lanes, when i saw a damaged area on the freeway drove over it and the light for trac control light, vsc light, and abs light were all on. Then i exited to check for any visible problems nothing that i could notice. So i stated to research about this and found forums to see what i can find out. This is a big problem from what i see. Do your part to get things done with this dangerous problems.

Vsc, vsc traction, check engine light stay on. No other problem to drive. Lights seen from89000 mile.changed brake system on 75000 mile including router and works fine.

I was driving and all of a sudden my check engine, vsc off, and the vsc trac lights came on and they won't turn off. Took it in to toyota dealer service the following date and they said it was an intermittent problem with the ecu and skid ecu computer board and that it may fix it? is there a recall on this issue would like to know.

Vsc/trac lights have come on . I still drive the car ,it was happen 3rd times . I went to local mechanic because it is out of guarantee .

I own an early model 2003 toyota sequoia, i had the vsc, esc and engine light activation, the car intermittently will not accelerate at the most dangerous times, is inconsistent and seems as though power is cut to the axle so i cannot pull away. I am aware of the recall and called toyotas hotline. They told me that the car was included in the recall and that i would get a letter for service in late may. Late may came and went and i waited until mid june for the letter and then called again when it didn't arrive. They now said that on further examination, the car was no longer recalled. Toyota wants an exhorbrant amount for the service, as it is a safety issue, it has to be done. Quite frankly, toyota was rude to me locally and the toyota recall hotline were rude. I don't understand how 67000 toyotas that were made in 2003, and 50000 were recalled mine is not included when it is demonstrating the exact problem the recall was instituted for. Sound criminal.

I was driving to interstate 10 going to san antonio, texas and make an exit and then turn left and turn left going back to interstate 10 east bound. My tires skid at the rough road (little stones) and my toyota sequoia sr5 2003 lost control and very hard to stabilize for about 5 to 10 seconds. I just hold the steering and did not pull right or left, and did not step on the brake until it was stabilized. I did not report it to the dealer, thinking the track off system was off. We were lucky that no other vehicles on my side and at the rear. Probably it was april 2009. Now i am having problem with the track off system and abs system lights on the dashboard. Ireplaced the 4 tires and disk pads (rear and front) last october 2009. Maybe that is one of the reason. I brought it to the dealer and the problem was the skid control system and the yaw rate sensor which will cost me around $1,600.00. The code was 1223 and 1244. I did not go ahead for the repairs since i can not believe for the diagnosis of the car. I barely used this car with 42,000 plus miles on it. Besides i don't have enough money for the repair.

I just purchased a used 2003 toyota sequoia sr5 2 days ago from the dealer. Although, the vehicle comes under no warranty, i would like to file a defect that has been reported by other 2003 toyota sequoia sr5 owners. The problem ' trac off light came on, vsc light came on and the brake light came on. I called the dealership and was told that they need to see the vehicle and it was the skid ecu and it needed to be replaced at $1200.00 for the part and $232.30 for labor.the service tech told me this is a major safety issue as this is the brain of the braking system and the abs will lock up and the brakes will fail. The lights remained on until the next day.i went on line to research the cause and defect and found out that there are quite a few owners experiencing the problem i have. Please investigate and hoping to resolve this malfunction before people are killed.

The contact owns a 2003 toyota sequoia. The contact stated that while driving, the vsc, abs and trac warning lights illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealership where the codes were reset. The failure occurred again a year later. The vehicle was taken back to the dealership where the codes were reset again; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealership where the contact was informed that the ecu needed to be replaced. The contact received a recall notice for recall 10v176000 (electronic stability control). When he went to the dealership to have the recall repaired, he was told he would be billed because the deceleration sensor also needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired at the time of the complaint. The contact called the manufacturer who offered no assistance. The current mileage was approximately 71,000. The failure mileage was approximately 5,000.

Electronic stability controltraction control system lights come on while is running , only way to take it off is turning the car off.

2003 toyota sequoia - the vsc, trac and brake light all illuminated with a grinding sound coming from under the car.the car shuddered to a stop during acceleration.barely avoided an accident by quickly pulling the car over.just checked with toyota and my car is not included in the recall for this identical problem.please explain your reasoning behind not including all sequoia's with this dangerous problem.

Starting in december of 2014 my 2003 toyota sequoia has had the brake light coming on and when applying the breaks having shaking in the front end. I took my vehicle into toyota and they said it was the wheel speed sensor, ecu. They replaced the skid control ecu and the right rear speed sensor. Costing me 1196.90. Then in march the brake light started coming on and off again periodically. It is now october 2015 and on the way home from church the brake lights and vsc and traction control , and engine lights keep coming on. I was turning and the engine stalled and nearly died in one of the busiest intersections. I have since parked it in the driveway and will have to get someone over here to look at it because i do not feel safe or comfortable driving this vehicle.

Re: vsc trac, vsc off, brake, abs lights... All on, all at once.how do we add our name to the complaint?i have a 2003 . Vsc & trac lights started coming on around 112800 k. I found out many people has the same issues and same problem with toyota sequoia. The lights continued to come on constantly i took it to the dealer & they said it needed 2 computers-$2700. I told them the problem was documented and asked them to contact toyota but to no avail. I hope nhtsa would do something about it.

Toyota sequoia sr5 2003.problem with trac/vsc and abs system are always lite up on the dashboard.this has been serviced by the dealer several months after i purchased the vehicle and several years after that.continues to be a problem, it always is temporarily fixed by dealer and then reappears at a later date.

Ecu, abs, traction control , lights staying on all the time.

I have owned this vehicle for only 10months....vsc trac, vsc off has occurred a few times including twice in the last 10 days.in addition, the first time the vsc lights came on the brake light was also on.it seems that when the vehicles vsc trac and vsc off lights come on, they can be reset temporarily by turning vehicle off and then back on.my first phone call last may to toyota i was told that my vehicle was a part of the recall.i received nothing in the mail, so i call back in july after i had my first occurrence with the vsc problem.they then told me that my vehicle did not qualify for the recall.this is obviously frustrating for many 2003 owners that are not a part of the recall who are having the same problems as those that do qualify for the recall.if my dash lights are on, is my vehicle safe?complaints all over the internet with same issues i am having.i was a lifelong toyota man, but not anymore because they refuse to recall all of these 2003 sequoias with the same problem.

I own a 2003 toyota sequoia and have problems with the engine light going off and on due to the vsc/abs trac light related to the skid control computer since i bought it brand new.now the light stays on and it's a safety issue now that it is out of warranty.i only have 56,000 miles on my car.during an internet search i find that multiple owners have had the same problem and have either been in accidents or almost in an accident.there should be a recall on this problem due to it safety issue.it is also very costly and the toyota company doesn't seem to care.i have not been in an accident yet and hope i never will but it is safety concern.

Re: nhtsa recall # 10v176000 i took the vehicle to the dealer for this recall but the same lights stayed on after the dealer suppose to have fixed the problem. I inquired this with the service advisor and he told me that toyota will not replace the ecu since it does not effect the performance of the vehicle. I discussed this issue with several mechanics and they all agreed that toyota needs to replace the defected chip. After reaching online, i came across this government website.under nhtsa recall campaign number: 10v176000, it clearly stated that " if the reflash cannot be completed on a particular vehicle, the ecu will be replaced with a new one."i need your help to have toyota to replace the defected ecu in my vehicle which was not done under the recall.

I just purchased a used 2003 toyota sequoia a month ago from the dealer. Although, the vehicle comes under no warranty, i would like to file a defect that has been reported by other 2003 toyota sequoia owners. The problem - vsc trac light on, off, brake light , engine light stayed on. I took my vehicle to the dealership and was told that they changed the air/fue; sensor for the check engine light and the vsc trac light were cleared. However, driving the vehicle back home, vsc trac light on/off and brake light came on steady. I went on line to researched the cause and defect and found out that there are quite a few owners experiencing the problem i have. Please investigate and hoping to resolve this malfunction. Thanks.

This occurred approximately april 2010, upon receiving a recall notice from toyota on brakes, i took the vehicle into the toyota dealership. They fixed the recall notice and i ended up having to pay for a test to find out what was causing the vsc light to come on. The dealership said that there was nothing that they could do for me except replace the yaw sensor for almost $800 dollars. This was the sensor for $685 and then the labor. To this date (07/14/2013) toyota has done nothing to fix the issue. I have read numerous issues with this item. I guess it will take someone else being killed for them to get their act together and fix it.

2003 toyota sequoia vsc light (vehicle stability control) and anti skid brakes light illuminate. First intermittently now on all the time. Toyota dealer does not seem to have expertise to scientifically determine the problem.toyota and dealer seem to be indifferent and also will not honor extended warranty. Been back to dealership on multiple occasions. 2003 sr5 model, garaged since purchase in 2003, lightly driven with 30652 miles on the vehicle.no accident involved. After a careful review of other owners identical complaints this vehicle is unsafe to drive. Design flaw or engineering defect with the stability control system or anti lock brake system. Reporting issue to go on record in the event a recall does get issued.

The vehicle , while starting and pulling out onto the road, would seem to try to take over and pulsate and apply the brakes.very dangerous!i paid for computer analysis to be done, which verified the c1231 abs control system fault, but toyota does not want to reimburse me for my prior expenses due to their defect.frustrating!

Our 2003 sequoia has same traction control problem as all of the other complaints, resulting in vsc/abs/trac lights on with no additional safety braking system light traction control or anti-lock brakes other than the standard hydraulic brakes.the system failed a number of years ago and we placed a complaint on this site hoping for a recall.we took the car in for the reported recall and all they did is fix some internal computer setting.they said the recall had nothing do with the warning lights or fixing the faulty "star" safety system.we left with all of the warning lights still on and the offer for the dealer to investigate the warning lights at a cost of $300. I don't believe the intent of all of the complaints regarding this issue was to fix an internal computer setting but rather to bring light to the widespread failure of a major safety system at a huge cost to the consumer.i urge the nhtsa to re-open this case, investigate the real causes, hold toyota accountable and not accept a softball answer.

I was driving at 55 mph, suddenly the car in front me stop at the fwy. I made panic stop but my abs wont activate. I just bump a car.

Vcs off light, vcs trac light and check engine light all came on at the same time and will not go off.understand there is a danger of crash due to this condition.

Vcs off light, vcs trac light and check engine light all came on at the same time and will not go off. .

Electronic stability control system is too sensitive.vehicle will not accelerate as the escs will activate and apply brakes not allowing vehicle to accelerate normally by applying brakes and cutting power to the engine.

While driving i came to a stop and whenput my foot back on the gas the vsc trac light came on and also the skid light. It made a grinding noise, then when i hit the gas it would not accelerate.this is a scary feeling!!! what can be done about this?!! seems to me it's more then just me exprencing this!!!

Trac off light comes on and engine light. This is twice this has happened.

The contact owns a 2003 toyota sequoia sr5. The contact stated that when trying to accelerate, the vehicle would not go to higher speeds and would decelerate independently. The acceleration would re-engage after several minutes. The vehicle was later taken to a dealer where they advised him that the vehicle was repaired under a manufacturer's recall for the reprogramming of the ecu. The dealer advised him that the engine control unit (ecu) and the abs actuator needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 116,000. The current mileage was approximately 116,900. The vin was unavailable.

After coming to stop or slowing down, when turning car does not accelerate. For about 7-10 seconds which is a safety hazard whenpulling out into traffic.vehicle has been doing this intermittently about twice a week.also have had problem with abs light staying off and on since purchasing vehicle.taken to dealership and unable to find anything wrong.taken to dealership to fix problem with acceleration but recurred after visit 4 times. Vehicle has 135,000 miles. Mileage is approximation.

I noticed oil leaking from rear axle housing.when i took the vehicle in for service i was told that the axle housing is leaking due to defective welds and must be replaced, it cannot be repaired.at the same time i was also told that the vehicle frame has rotted from the inside out due to defective or inadequate factory rustproofing.i was told that this problem is pervasive in toyota sequoias which have the same frame as toyota tundras.toyota has recalled the tundras and replaced the frames but to date refuses to do the same for sequoias.the vehicle has been determined to be unsafe to drive at this time.aside from the defects stated above the vehicle is in excellent condition.

2003 toyota sequoia will unexpectedly loose power when turning and then acceleration races up after a long pause.this has happened about once per month since purchasing the vehicle in 2003 and has several times resulted in near-miss crashes from approaching traffic as the vehicle will not move out of the way of oncoming traffic.

Ecu, abs, traction control , lights staying on all the time.

Brake lights on toyota sequoia comes on without warning, stays on till ignition is turned off. However, brakes seem to work fine, but vehicle slows when making a turn, including minor turn at low speed and the roll over light comes on, with the wheels hardly turning. Vehicle is 2003 but less than 50, 000 miles (approx. 48,689).

Repeated incidences of gas pedal being stuck and unable to be depressed to give the vehicle fuel and accelerate. Essentially vehicle randomly locks up, typically at low speeds as on a parking lot or leaving a driveway or paring garage. The gas pedal feels as if there is something blocking it from being utilized while there is nothing physically obstructing the pedal. After tapping and then frantically trying to push the accelerator and break it free it causes the vehicle to lunge forward necessitating quick reaction and breaking. It is scattered but recurs periodically with no warning. Vehicle is currently under recall for the traction, skid, stability issues and airbags. Scheduled for recall services mentioned but dealer says nothing is wrong with pedal. Once told it was cleaned and adjusted but is mostly ignored and i'm treated like i'm nuts. Not being taken seriously but i'm afraid that someone may be hurt. It is a frightening event as you feel not in control of the vehicle and vulnerable. Have had it happen when pulling into traffic or turning onto busy street. Even giving ample time for normal traffic, the inability to provide gas to the vehicle left us at the vehicles mercy and in a vulnerable spot to be briar sides by oncoming traffic. It was not the floor mat.

2003 sequoia :1. Vsc and engine lights went on three times, have car in service dept, but no root causehas been identified.2. Dealer charged for each repaired time , several parts have been replaced but the same problem reappeared after few months.

While driving down a familiar road leaving a car wash going no faster then 45 mph, the rear end started making a grinding noise when we would take off. We took it too our mechanic and he said it was the rear end differential, he changed the fluid in it to see if that would help but it did nothing, if anything it made it worse. But he did say that there were metal shavings on the plug which would indicate a gear going out. He told us not to drive it till we get it fix because if it were to completely go out it would cause an accident.

Rear differential rotted to the point of leaking.i have seen many reports of this online, toyota tundras as well, which have the same differential and frame, are under recall.

Traction control light comes on intermittently $1,500 repair per dealer.the transmission differential light flashes on the dash, we found out the seal, relay and actuator are all bad $1,500 repair i found numerous cases of this on the internet.toyota refuses to help stating the mileage.

The 2003 sequioa frame is rust is eating away the frame.we paid a lot of money for this vechicle.would toyota standby there vechicle and replace this frame or we have pay for replacement .

The abs actuator on my 2003 toyota sequoia sr5 caught fire as i was driving home. The first sign of trouble was when i pulled out of a parking spot and switched from reverse to drive and was temporarily unable to accelerate. The brake pedal also shuddered before i regained acceleration. One mile down the road, at a speed of approx. 30 mph,3 warning lights on the dash illuminated(vsc light, abs light, brake light) followed by the brake pedal going all the way to the floor by itself. Luckily, i wasn't rear-ended, but by this time, smoke was coming from under the hood. Upon further inspection, i could see flames coming from the actuator assembly.the fire department responded and extinguished the fire.the vehicle was deemed a total loss due to the damage to the actuator assembly, wire harness, wiper motor and hood.

I received a recall notice from toyota for undercarriage rusting.i took my vehicle to the dealership for treatment. They kept the vehicle overnight and i picked it up the next day.six months later (i'm not sure exactly when it happened because we have more than one vehicle), while driving the sequoia, which i never had problems with before,i smelled something burning as i drove the vehicle and thought that with the new treatment it was just burning off the excess.however, the vehicle began to shake, i looked under the vehicle and noticed that the brake rotors had rusted to the point that i could rub my hand on them and rub the metal off.i called the dealer to ask them what the vehicle had been treated with because in all the years that i had the vehicle the rotors had never rusted.i was told "it wasn't caused by what they did" and that they "see rusted rotors all the time", but was never told what chemicals were used in the treatment.i have to pay to have the entire brake assembly replaced on all wheels to make the vehicle safe again.i'm to believe that it is just a coincidence that the first and only time that this happened is within six months of the "undercarriage rust treatment" that i was told had to be applied to prevent rust by toyota. I believe the rust inhibitor treatment is fraudulent and causes other problems with the vehicles such as mine.

Abs light on.replace abs skid control ecu and recalibrate abs system (also found dtc c1247 for abs skid control computer logic change.vsc light on recomend throttle body assembly/gasketdtc p2118 throttle body actuator motor current malfunctionthere was a recall for skid control. No abs or vsc. All systems affected as a result of skid control.toyota says not covered.???????????

Defective abs system since initial purchase.at first, an intermittent problem but now a safety hazard.brake light, vsc light &trac light constantly are on & now on several occasions going only 10 mph brakes are affected where there is a loud grinding noise & brakes don't function properly.i was told the yaw sensor would take care ofthis costing $880, but it didn't; now its the skid control another $875 which i agreed to & when calling to get status of my car, i'm told it didn't fix the issue & now it's the booster another $1,000 which i'm not paying. This should be a recall as this is issue makes it a very unsafe vehicle to drive.my car is still sitting in the shop and i don't know what to do at this point.

I was driving at 55 mph, suddenly the car in front me stop at the fwy. I made panic stop but my abs wont activate. I just bump a car.

Ecu, abs, traction control , lights staying on all the time.

As i drive, when i come to a stop sign are red light an d put my feet back on the gas the vsctrac light comes on and also the skid light,it makes a grinding noise when u hit the gas. It's a scary feeling!!! what can i do about that?!! seems to me it's more then just me experience this!!!

The contact owns a 2003 toyota sequoia sr5. While driving approximately 30 mph, an abnormal noise was heard and the brakes became unresponsive. The contact had to depress the brake pedal rapidly until the vehicle responded. The vsc track and brake warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the vsc system needed to be reset. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred on several occasions. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

2003 toyota sequoia vsc / abs skid control ecu failure.went to toyota dealer on friday 10/01/2010 for a recall on my toyota to update the vsc ecu.dealer comes back and says my vsc ecu needs to be replaced for $900.00 prior to updating the ecu.i declined the repairs and they had me sign a release stating toyota is not responsible for any failed components due to my decision. I do not have any warning lights coming on indicating a problem with the vsc.

I purchased a 2003 toyota sequoia from thousand oaks toyota dealer on jan 22, 2011.i noticed on the third week of driving it, the brake light, and vsc light would go on intermittently while driving.i was told that there was a recall on the aog computer, and was told that this update would most likely filx the problem.after the aog was updated12 mar 2011, now both the brake light and the vsc track off lights come on, and the brakes shudder to a stop.unfortunately this does not happen each and everytime i'm driving the car, but rather sporadically.i've taken the suv back to the dealer, and they seem to be guessing as to the problem, and solution.they have suggested that i need to replace the master cylinder and brake booster, however blogs that i have read on this issue indicate changing these particular parts will not resolve the problem.my personal mechanic has suggested that the master cylinder and brake booster are not the issue, but rather related to the whole breaking computer system.he strongly suggested this is an issue that toyota should address and fix.that in fact this is a well known problem pertaining to the skid control computer and ecm. I've purchased this vehicle as a family vehicle to transport my family, and i certainly don't feel safe using this vehicle to transport any one in.i strongly believe there should be a recall on this whole braking mechanism.

Veh. Toyota sequoia 2003,the vehicle skid control (vsc) and traction control (track) lights remain on also the eng. Light. And the diagnose system doesn't have any code related to the abs. Because of this the anti lock brake syst. Doesn't work. The codes shown are related to the oxygen sensor and m.a.f. Sensor, we change all 4 oxg. Sensor and the maf and still the same condition. The sequoia has 47,000 miles.

Toyota sequoia 2003 85,000 miles. Skid control unit is bad. My abs, trac lights are on. Every so often my brake light will go on too. The brake light will resolve by turning off engine and start again. Other lights stay on. Asked toyota dealer. They gave me a price of $2600 to fix the problem. They said i need a new skid control and decal sensor.

Vehicle stability control system failure...vsc, trac, and abs failure...all 2003 toyota sequoia.

I own a 2003 toyota sequoia. About a month agohad to stop the car abruptly under rain to avoid a collision with a vehicle that failed to perform a stop at an intersection. The vehicle abs did not work and i skidded of the road without major consequences. . after a visit to the dealer they reported that vehicle has a problem with the traction control module, it is not working. Currently the vehicle has 66000 miles. The problem with the traction control module is that is disables the abs when the module stops working.i researched the internet and found multiple people complaining about this in vehicles under warranty and vehicles with relative low mileage. I believe this is also a problem for the toyota tundra truck.

2003 toyota sequoia sr5- common problem like others abs/vsc trac/vsc off sensor lights continue to stay on. Brake light comes on periodically. Brought vehicle in to dealership today for recall for skid control ecu update and it did not fix the problem.brought this up to dealership today and was asked - what lights - you did not tell us sensor lights were on - it will be $49.99 to pull vehicle back in and see what the problem is. I am not stupid, the dealer has looked at this vehicle before and all they tell us is we have to replace several sensors - $3000.00 +. There are too many similar complaints out there with this vehicle and same problem.toyota does not want to put the funds into fixing a serious defect.

The skid control ecu on my 2003 toyota sequoia recently started intermittentlyreporting failure via parking warning light and disables the abs system.recently we were driving at highway speeds and it disabled itself as we were braking.there was a tsb br006-06 put outby toyota to replace the ecu in 2006 only if the customer reported the problem.it was a known logic problem with the ecu.we are lucky so far that we have been able to pull-over and turn off the vehicle and turn-it back on to clear the abs fault and continue driving without any accident.toyota service is telling me the ecu needs replacement at my expense for a cost of over $1500.the vehicle was purchased because of the additional safety provided by the abs and vsc system, and toyota should be ensuring that this safety system is working and should have had put a recall out on the computer back in 2006 for this problemfor reference, the nhtsa has this recorded as incident #pe68072 and ea09006.

"ball joint failure" while travelling down freeway at 35-40 mph the passenger front tire had come off and caused the vehicle to drop. Lost steering, brakes and any control of the vehicle at this time. The vehicle skid into the guard rail spinning it around and sliding until it came to a stop. The arm came directly off the vehicle and is still attached to the wheel.

The frame in my 2003 toyota sequoia is rusting out, i have been in contact with toyota and the representative informed me toyota is only responsible for 3 years 36 moths for the frame. I do believe this is very similar to the problem that ford had with the windstar. I hope it wont take a fatality to correct this problem!!!!

My toyota sequoia 4x4 limited has about 230000 miles. I was driving this vehicle down the highway and slowed down to take a turn and heard a large "thunk". I then continued to drive and later as i got up to about 60 vehicle started shaking violently. I pulled over and checked under heath and the frame had separated due to rust at the stabilizer bar for the rear passenger side frame. I was going to drive it to the dealership and upon further inspection the frame is just rust for the full rear section of the frame and has large holes due to rust. It is definitely unsafe to drive. I found out that it had extended warranty to cover this issue till 2014. I reached out to toyota and they said there is nothing they can do. Toyota knew there was an issue. I was unable to get any help. I just purchased the vehicle in may 2018 from a private party and toyota told me that the risk i take purchasing private party.

I live in northern ky and i was driving west on ky 20.i was driving straight all of a sudden the front of the vehicle pulls right and the back pulls left .when i got the vehicle to safely stop i noticed the rear frame of the vehicle broke in half. It broke because it rusted in half.this could of killed me.luckily no one was coming on the other side of the rd. My mechanic said the frame rusted in half. I bought this vehicle in 2015 im the second owner. I paid 6000 for the truck put 1200 in new wheels and another 2400 in safety and preventitive maintience at toyota. I would not exspect this to occure.especially when i had the vehicle safety inspected. No my options are to replace the frame or junk the vehicle.either way im out big money on a truck i love.i thank god my great neices and nephew was not in the truck when the frame rusted through and broke.they were in there the day before.im blessed we didnt get hurt that could have went very bad.i believe if i was on the interstate i would have got hurt or even killed.this vehicle rusting out that bad is not safe.ive noticed manay others have complained about the frame rusting out too. This concerns me for many others that own this vehicle.

Takata recall never informed my family about the recalls for the frame on toyota sequioas. Therefore for more investigation during repairs to my vehicle not long ago i saw holes in my frame and was very bad and had my worried about my vehicle. I was unable to take photos at the time but am willing to put my vehicle on a lift and take as many pictures as necessary

Underbody frame rusted.

My 2003 toyota sequoia is experiencing heavy frame rust, to the point of being a safety concern for the integrity of the frame and undercarriage.i am filing this complaint that it is my understanding the sequoia and tundra frames are identical and built by the same factory. The same model year toyota tundra's have been recalled for heavy frame rust, but the sequoia's have not. I feel that the sequoia models are seeing the same rust problem found on the toyota tundra's and should likewise be recalled as well.

2003 toyota sequoia - frame corrosion with perforation.

Frame is rusting through, making vehicle unsafe to drive.

Frame is rusting away at only 40k. Holes in frame.

The chassis is very rusty and i want tochange the shocks but i don't want to damage the car because i believe that chassis have to be fixed first and i don't know how much that cost or where to go to fixed

Trac off light comes on and engine light. This is twice this has happened.

2003 toyota sequoia vsc trac control lights on instrument panel on all the time now i have reset them several times now and help from dealership is at it best a waste of time and money. As of this date i have only had two driving related incidents . On a trip to tenn this year after stopping for a break i started the vehicle up and started driving the lights came on and a loud clanging came from under the car as soon as i could pull over to investigate the problem it was apparent that something was wrong with the brakes as it was only a short distance to where i was going i proceeded on back roads with caution to where i was going and it was late so i would look at it in the morning.that night i spent most of it on the internet researching the problem and found several other people with the same problem on this model with the same results from there dealerships . The next morning i checked everything out only to find nothing apparently wrong reset the system and problem was gone i thought. On the return trip to fla. I encountered a heavy rain while driving while going around a long corner at a slower speed than posted the tires hit water running across the road and the car went out of control lights back on and a real scary battle to correct the car lucky for me there was no traffic on the road at that point as it took both sides of the road to bring it back under control . From what i have read this a problem with this vehicle that a lot of people are having being a mechanic all my life and a very experienced driver in extreme conditions i would not have been as lucky an i hate to think of the many women with kids in this car would have to go through this type of incident. Being a mechanic i have a good understanding of this problem and toyota's solution to just keep changing out the computer at 2,000.00 dollars a crack is only a bandaid not a fix . This condition needs to be addressed with totota as most of these car's are now of the age that this shows up.

The contact owns a 2003 toyota sequoia sr5. The contact stated that the vsc and traction control warning light illuminated on the instrument panel and the vehicle began to vibrate as he lost control of it. In addition, the braking system was inoperable. The vehicle was not taken to have the failure diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure and current mileages were 105,000. The vin was unavailable.

My 2003 toyota sequoia vsc traction system has failed 5 times.the system failed at 54,546, again at 78,358, again at 93,939, again at 104,238, and the last time at 145,000.the first time code c124 c1231 replaced steering sensor.the second time code c1231 replaced steering angle sensor.the third time code c1203 1231 replaced and reprogrammed steering angle sensor. The fourth time no code indicated, but replaced skid control ecm.the fifth time i brought in in for the recall, it did not qualify and the dealership would not diagnose without me paying for it, so i do not have a code yet. I am in a battle with toyota and the dealership about who should pay for this defective system.i have paid portions the first 2 occasions.when the failure occurs it happens one of two ways.the first way is when i the vehicle is first started and is at about 4 miles per hour, the car thinks i am skidding, the brakes go on automatically, a horrible screeching sound occurs, and after a couple of seconds the brakes are released and the system is deactivated and both the vsc lights go on on the dashboard. The second way is that i start the car and at some time while driving the system shuts off without any warning and the lights on the dashboard go on indicating that the system is not engaged.i recently read about the mushy pedal syndrome, and i have experienced that as well, but i never associated the symptom with anything specific.when it happens it is often as i am leaving my 300ft driveway and entering my street.

2003 toyota sequoia. Track off, vsc trac, asb lights turn on. Dealer diagnostic problem codes:p1242 deceleration circuit malfunction, p1244 stroke sensor malfunction; necessary to replace skid control ecu costs $1045.00; necessary to replace the yaw rate sensor cost $662.00. Toyota headquarters stated vehicle is not on recall list and refuse to pay for repair.

I've had problems with my 2003 toyota sequoia trac control, vsc, and abs lights going, about a dozen times since new, but they would go off after shutting the car off. Now that have come on and stay on. I took it to the dealer and they say its the yaw sensor and will cost around $650 with parts and labor. I think there have been a lot of complaints with this part failing and maybe something that needs looking into since its part of the vehicles safety equipment.

Traction control light comes on intermittently $1,500 repair per dealer.the transmission differential light flashes on the dash, we found out the seal, relay and actuator are all bad $1,500 repair i found numerous cases of this on the internet.toyota refuses to help stating the mileage.

Vcs off light, vcs trac light and check engine light all came on at the same time and will not go off. .

Veh. Toyota sequoia 2003,the vehicle skid control (vsc) and traction control (track) lights remain on also the eng. Light. And the diagnose system doesn't have any code related to the abs. My sequoia is experiencing very similar issues as noted in nhtsa campaign id number:10v176000.when trying to accelerate the vehicle has a delay and seems to engage the vehicle stability control system preventing acceleration and then it just kicks in and off you go. Unfortunately this often leaves you in a dangerous situation if you haven't left yourself more than the usual distance between vehicles. Also it is very sporadic so you never know when it will happen. I experience this issue more during turns from start and particularly during rainy or inclement weather though the tires are not slipping. I contacted my toyota dealer and was told my vin is not under the recall. I contacted toyota and they gave me a case number and then told me they would not fix the issue because my vehicle does not have the same part with the issue. I informed them the issue has been happening since i had the car and they wouldn't do anything. They said i could bring it in and have an analysis done but i would need to pay for it. I told them it was happening even when the car was under warranty and their mechanic could not duplicate the issue. I have a young driver who will be using this vehicle and i'm very disappointed that toyota will not admit other sequioa's may have this issue and do not want to address them. This is serious and we have been lucky so far to not have it happen in a bad situation. I'm very disappointed in toyota for simply pushing this vehicle aside. I don't understand how they can be so confident they've identified only certain vehicles which will have the issue. How can they justify that other vehicles will not experience similar issues. I guess they won't do anything until something bad happens to many people to admit there could be something true from what their customers are telling them. I am very disappointed in toyota since my vehicle fits the recall mentioned in the beginning of this note but they are simply turning away from a long time customer.

Turning right into driveway my car began to shake with a loud grinding sound.let off gas, noise ceased, applied gas gently and the vehicle proceeded as normal.this has happened several times since.it only seems to occur during a right turn at a very low speed.the vscand trac lights each come on when this occurs.they used to be off each time i restarted the vehicle but now they do not turn off at all.went to toyota dealer and was told that i need to have the "computer system" that controls the vsc and trac replaced.was quoted a price of $1,700.00.this problem has not been corrected at this time. However, i cannot afford to wait since this is my only vehicle and i have 3 children whose safety may be at risk as this defect occurs.

I have a 2003 toyota sequoia which we purchased new.ever since we bought it the trac off, vsc trac, and abs dashboard lights used to go off periodically.since the dealer could not see the lights when i took the car to them, they said there was nothing they could do.for about a month now the lights are always on but (of course) the vehicle is out of warranty.the vehicle drives erratically at times and my husband and i are afraid to drive it.

Vsc replacementthis is my 3rd incident with the toyota sequoias. I was in snow and ice and put the car in 4 wheel drive. I started to back out and a buzzing sound and the vsc and the vsc trac lights came on.nothing else happened for a while and when i put it back into 2 wheel drive it drove fine for the remainder of the trip about 200 miles. I stopped and fueled up and when driving off the car started making a loud vibrating/grinding noise then stalled and the brakes suddenly pulled the car to the right.. I turned it off and tried again and the vsc lights came on again but it drove ok until the next time i restarted it again got out in traffic and it made the same grinding noise, stalled and the brakes pulled it to the right again....i had no control over the vehicle and was nearly hit by the car in the right lane.i called the toyota dealer and explained what had happened and he said it just needed recalibrating and the cost would be around $100. I took it in and the whole skid control computer had to be replaced at a cost of $1400 plus labor $200.i bought this car new in 2003 and this is the 3rd vsc issue i have had. The last one was $600 2 or 3 years ago.this should have been recalled or at least a fix sent to dealerships when the first incident occurred while in warranty. The rest have been out of my pocket.

This is an ongoing problem that we noticed a couple of years ago--but every time i've taken it to a dealer, we've been brushed off. While turning on a slight incline in my 2003 toyota sequoia sr5, we notice the traction control engages. The vehicle slows considerably to the point that we have been crawling and even blocking an intersection. The traction control also engages when we turn into our driveway or when we turn onto side streets. Cars behind us have been able to go around us or have slowed until we can move again. Unfortunately, when i took the car to the dealership, we were told at first it was just our tires. Then they told us it was going to cost over a thousand dollars to repair because the computer system was bad. Our experience is exactly that of the most recent recall of other 2003 sequoias, but our vehicle was not recalled.

The vsc trac and trac off lights come on sometimes with the brake light sometimes not.i was told it is a safety issue and it would be 2,800 dollars to replace the ebs system or something.i hear this is a very common occurrence in the 2003 toyota sequoia's.

First vsc trac and trac off lights computer failure:march 20 2009dealership found the skid control computer malfunctioned and was replaced under an extended warranty.total cost of repairs $1521. Due to our extended warranty, we paid $50.second vsc trac and trac off lights computer failure november 15 2010received recall notice in mail.made appointment with toyota service.since the computer was replaced previously during first traction control failure, they would not "update" the software in the computer, nor diagnose the cause of the failure.customer service dept @ dealership did not even give me a chance to do the diagnostic work and told me that the diagnostic time would have to be "re scheduled" at a later date.due to my taking the day off from work to do this recall repair, i left the dealership with no repair work nor idea as to why the computer failed a second time.this is my 3rd real issue with this particular dealership , and i vowed today to never buy another toyota vehicle.

2003 toyota sequoia vsc/trac light turns on for no reason and will not turn off unless engine is restarted.

Vsc off/vsc trac light started coming on.at initial start of toyota sequoia after putting it in drive, vehicle would shudder and cut off ignition.this would cause a brief stall, and will not accelerate.this occurs everytime vehicle is used.fault is dtc c1231.vehicle skid control sensor is faulty.

Vsc/trac light warning & sensor is on....parking brake goes off & on. Vehicle stop suddenly. I took to dealer & diagnosed it as "steering angle sensor" for abs hard code c1231....total repair quote $743.

Started up the vehicle and the abs brake light, the vcs off light and the vcs trac light all came on simultaneously. We've had the factory recallfor aog vehicle stability control system, skid control ecu update done, and now we're told it will be $500 to replace the yaw-acceleration stability control . This is a very common safety problem, and should be covered by a recall, it happens a lot!

Vsc and trak off warning dash light indicators continue to come on/off, now more frequent and intermittent loss of accelerations.initial triggering of indicators was feb 06 but were intermittent, now they are more frequent.

Ecu, abs, traction control , lights staying on all the time.

Vsc/svc trac lights on.have been coming on/off 1-3 times/month. Now they are on at all times. Seems to be a chronic problem with the 2003 toyota sequoias.

Vsc/trac light starting going on and off than stayed on than the slip indicator light went on and the buzzer would ring a few times than the rear tires skidded on their own and seemed to kind of "lock up"than it went away. This happened 3x in a weeks period so i looked it up in my owner's manual and it said to take it in to the toyota dealer which i did on 11/03/09. This is the 2nd toyota sr5 i have bought. I traded my 2001 sr5 in for this one because the vsc trac lights kept going on in it too but the electric windows stopped working as well. We bought the 36 months, 36,000 mile extended warranty which the salesman told us would cover "everything" bumper to bumper and that it was "better" than the previous certified platinum extended warranty that we had purchased with our 2001 sr5. I bought this 2003 sr5 on 12-15-07 and this is the first time i had any problem with the lights or skidding. I was taking my grandson to the dentist when it happened and it was scary. Thank god no one got hurt. I immediately took it in to the dealer only to find out that the skid control replacement is not covered and that the cost for repairs would be $2,000.well i do not have $2,000 to pay for this.i remembered having received a questionnaire in the mail a month or so ago from the nhtsa requesting information specifically about the vsc trac and slip indicator lights so i did fill it out and send it in, however i had only had the vsc lights go on at that point and only recently the slip indicator light and buzzer stared going off.it is quite obvious that there is a defective part & hazardous and should be recalled. I have left my car at the dealer and will have it towed home as it is not safe to drive like that as i do not have the $2,000 to fix it.i spoke with gary hewitt at nhtsa on 11/04/09 and he said that michael packard would be back in the office on 11/16/09 in ohio and since he is conducting this investigation, would probably want to see my car before repairs.

I have a 2003 toyota sequoia and the vsc and traction control lights come on for no reason and the traction control does not engage properly. My vehicle only has 61,000 miles on it.. Took it to dealer they said the only recall is for a software computer update. They updated and still have problem. Took it back in today and was told error code c1203 found need new translate computer assembly. Clearly there is something wrong with all of the sequoia tracking systems... Toyota needs to replace these parts free of charge. Why should i be out of pocket 1000 for repairs for something they know is a bad part! please help!

Vsc/trac lights are on, engine light is on.toyota dealer tells me this is a common problem with 2003 toyota sequoia but there's no recall.the internet is aflame with toyota sequoia owners, 2003 model, dealing with repeated fixes for the vsc/trac lights and engine lights that come on after 111,000 miles.

Tailgate door will not open preventing me from getting items out off the cargo area.

Vcs off light, vcs trac light and check engine light all came on at the same time and will not go off.understand there is a danger of crash due to this condition.

About 9am monday morning, after driving vehicle about 20 mph, i arrived at a stop sign. As i began to accelerate and make a right hand turn, the vehicle stalled. The sequoia would not move at all. I have depress the acceleration to the floor in order to move the car and suddenly it took off. I was able to regain control of the car and safety drop off my children.

Vcs off light, vcs trac light and check engine light all came on at the same time and will not go off. .

When driving the back light an traction control light come in brake light stays on an it says codes c1203 c1223 c1247 also saying the abs sensor on master cylinder open circuit also has a code fro 0dtchad it checked out on 7/1/2019

2003 toyota sequoia vsc/trac light turns on for no reason and will not turn off unless engine is restarted.

I have a 2003 toyota sequoia sr5, which had 45k. The awd and both vsc traction light indicator lights turned on. I tried disconnecting and reconnecting the battery. The indicator lights remain on. I read that this is a common problems with the earlier models of the sequoia. I called toyota service and was surprised that it was not recalled to fix this huge safety problem.

Vehicle stability control system failure...vsc, trac, and abs failure...all 2003 toyota sequoia.

As i drive, when i come to a stop sign are red light an d put my feet back on the gas the vsctrac light comes on and also the skid light,it makes a grinding noise when u hit the gas. It's a scary feeling!!! what can i do about that?!! seems to me it's more then just me experience this!!!

Vsc/trac light warning & sensor is on....parking brake goes off & on. Vehicle stop suddenly. I took to dealer & diagnosed it as "steering angle sensor" for abs hard code c1231....total repair quote $743.

The vsc. Tcs warning lights are on in vehicle and after reading the aboutincidents occurring in other 03 sequoias, i am nervous to continue driving it.

The vsc trac and trac off lights come on sometimes with the brake light sometimes not.i was told it is a safety issue and it would be 2,800 dollars to replace the ebs system or something.i hear this is a very common occurrence in the 2003 toyota sequoia's.

2003 sequoia :1. Vsc and engine lights went on three times, have car in service dept, but no root causehas been identified.2. Dealer charged for each repaired time , several parts have been replaced but the same problem reappeared after few months.

The vsc and 4 wd lights came on in our 2003 toyota sequoia. When starting in forward, there is a loud grind and a thump. This happened shortly (1 week) after replacing the brake pads. I placed the car in manual 4 wheel drive and move it very slowly back and forth. The lights are off, but it seems like a temporary fix.*tw

This occurs daily (since inow live in arizona). The vent recirculate system automatically overides to recirculate mode in manual mode when inside and outside temperatures differ.this causes thewindow fogging and limited visibility. The recirculate will turn on even in front window defrost mode - a complete disregard for visibility safety.toyota service tech stated the onboard computers firmware is to blame and there is no fix available.toyota unresponsive otherwise.
