Cpsc: toyota rav4: consumer stated new automobiles have instrument clusters that light up when the vehicle is started. So when dusk arrives, driver's often forget to turn their headlights on. Vehicle with instrument clusters that light up, need a sensor and a warning when headlights are not on in low light situations, or the headlights should automatically come on when the vehicle is started on put in gear. *ss

Toyota rav-4.consumer writes in regards to vehicle unintentional acceleration.the consumer stated she removed her foot from the accelerator pedal and applied the brake. The pedal went all the way to the floor. She applied the brake again, with the same results. She down shifted to 3rd gear in an attempt to slow the vehicle down as she approached an intersection; then she was able to get the vehicle into neutral and stopped a short distance from the intersection.
Toyota rav 4.consumer writes in regards to vehicle unintentional acceleration.the consumer stated the incident occurred, while driving at a low speed, as he was approaching a stop light.the vehicle suddenly surged forward and the consumer hit the brake hard and put the vehicle in neutral.the engine then raced extremely high, he turned the engine off and re-started it again, and it ran normally.the vehicle was taken to the dealer and inspected, but no problem was found.the dealer performed a software upgrade, to give the brakes priority over the accelerator.
