No one has contacted me on this matter.i have attempted to contact toyota in reference to this problem but no one has returned an answer. Got into a severe car accident. The vehicle that hit us was going approx 50mph head on. Our air bags did not deploy...updated 03/15/16

The contact owns a 2012 toyota rav4. The contact stated that while at a complete stop, another vehicle crashed into the front end of the vehicle. The air bags failed to deploy. The driver sustained a laceration to the left collar bone due to the tightness of the seat belt. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic for diagnoses and repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 11,000.

The contact owns a 2012 toyota rav4. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 15v284000 (air bags) and stated that the part was not available within a reasonable time frame to schedule the recall repair.the dealer did not give a specific date for when the part would become available and only stated that they had received a limited supply of parts. The manufacturer was contacted and could not provide an estimated date for when the contacts vehicle would receive the recall repair. The contact had also experienced a failure in which the rear passenger side tire constantly had to be refilled with air. The dealer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was taken to a tire repair shop for inspection and repair but the details were unknown. The failure mileage was unknown. Vin tool confirms parts not available.

I had a seizure while driving down a road, stopped by a palm tree. It hit the car on the right front. Unfortunately, the air bag did not deploy, perhaps for going to slow or not. I will say that the palm tree stopped the car. I was moving forward, and the vehicle was stopped by the tree. I fractured my shoulder. I dislocated my shoulder, and bruised several ribs. I was transported to the hospital in an ambulance. I was in a hospital for five days, surgery took place there. I was unable to work for two and a half months.

I was travelling northbound on i-85 in the city of atlanta at around 55 miles per hour. A car from the hov lane abruptly changed lanes at high speed and hit me on the drivers side. This was a big impact and due to this my car swerved to the right lane and hit another moving truck on its drivers side. The car has been totaled by my insurance company. My concern is that, due to the nature of the accident and the impact the air bags of the car should have deployed and they didn't. This i think is a lapse in the safety of the car and is a matter of life and death. The accident took place on 10/17/2015 around 7:30 am on i-85n in the city of atlanta. I have attached the police report for reference. Please investigate the same.

On june10th. I had a majoir accident in which both my wife & myself suffered fractured sternums & fractured ribs. What happened was that i pulled into a lot in princeton, n.j. & after stopping to set my gps, i just tapped the accelerator & the car shot forward, as if shot out of a cannon. While stopped i put the car in reverse & the car shot backwards in the same manner, thereby striking a wall. Now i went forward like a rocket, with no time to hit the brake, thereby going headfirst into a parked construction truck.

The contact owns a 2012 toyota rav4. While attempting to park, the vehicle surged forward, went over the curb, and slammed into a brick wall. The front air bags did not deploy. There were no injuries and a police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to an independent body shop. The manufacturer was not notified. The vehicle was not repaired and was under evaluation by the insurance company. The vin was unknown. The approximate failure mileage was 105,000.

Lost control on a patch of ice on road.slid and hit a tree totaled front end and air bags didn't deploy.

According to nhtsa campaingn number, my 2012 rav4 should have been recalled in2013 . I was not notified then or never. I am afraid to drive my vehicle and can't seem to get any answers about my airbag. All i want to know is what kind of airbag i have and if it's made by takada , i want it changed.

I was driving westbound on i-70 around mp 129. This is just before glenwood canyon. There was a flashing icy road sign at which time, i signaled my intention to move to the right lane which i did. I slowed down and put my car in 3rd. This was just before a curve to the right where the road and visibility narrow. The right lane was completely iced over as i realized when i got around the curve. In front of me, i saw a pileup, both lanes of traffic were blocked. I tapped my brakes to slow down but because of the ice, i did not stop or slow down. I went around one car stopped in my lane to avoid hitting it from behind. I went around on the shoulder. I continued to pump the brake. Immediately in front of me was a sierra 4x 4 that was perpendicular to the lane of traffic and it was also blocking the shoulder. I plowed into it about the middle of the truck at a rate of anywhere of 25 - 30 mph. My airbags did not deploy. My dog and i were both restrained and we suffered no injuries. My car is in all likelihood totaled.

My toyota rav4 wasinvolved in an accident where it was struck on the passenger door causing my car to roll on its side, deploying the curtain airbags but the side airbags were never deployed causing additional injuries to the occupants.

I noticed that the 'pass air bag off' light was on even though a passenger was sitting in the front passenger seat. I took it to the toyota dealership that diagnosed it. They said the sensor in the passenger seat belt buckle had gone bad and needed replacing.what bothers me is the fact that the airbag light on the instrument panel didn't come on to indicate that something was wrong. I am not sure how long i have driven with this malfunction since the light that indicates the air bag being on or off is off to the side and in yellow rather than red to show that something is wrong.i had to pay for the diagnosis and repair. This should have been covered by an extended warranty by the manufacturer. The car only had 67k miles, being 7 years old.

The airbag lightremains on. I have been informed that this means that in case of a vehicle crash my airbags will not deploy.my vin is not part of the recall, yet i am experiencing the same problem as other rav 4 ownersthat have vin numbers within the recall. The toyota dealership wants to charge me $88.00 per half hour to diagnose the problem. That's not fair to me.

While attempting to roll the vehicle forward to clear a doorway, the vehicle jumped forward about 6 feet. At that time i pulled my foot off the gas and pushed the brake pedal to the floor. The vehicle stopped momentarily, then began to accelerate picking up speed rapidly as evidenced by the revving of the engine. I continued to pump the brake since holding it to the floor was doing nothing. By this time i had gone through a chain link fence, through a ditch over a curb and continued to pick up speed to pass through a concrete block wall and into the back of a parked r.,the vehicle impaling itself on the steel pipes of a motorcycle carrier attached to the back of the r.v. The vehicle could not move any further but the engine was still revving. Needless to say the rav4 was totaled and amazingly i suffered only minor bumps and bruises. At no time did any of the air bags deploy.

Driving on road, headed towards highway.light was green and i continued to forward to get onto highway.a driver a couple cars ahead stopped suddenly before entering onramp to highway and i slammed into the back end of the truck in front of me.the truck was jacked up some and i hit a steel bumper, with a trailer hitch. My car was not drivable, front right side received most of the damage, but my car was determined totaled as it had more than $14,000 damage.the engine wasn't damaged, the windshield fluid was still in the container, the battery wasn't damaged, yet the car was totaled.the driver of the other car took off after i hit him.in the question above, i checked the affected parts as the airbags, because that's where my concern is.the airbags didn't deploy and i received whiplash with a torn ligament in my neck.i have additional injuries on my knee, as my knee slammed into something, steering wheel, bottom of dashboard or something. All are considered minor injuries, as i walked away.but i'm still currently in pain, with regular headaches.don't understand why there could be so much damage on my car to total it and yet the airbags didn't inflate.the collision shop was unsure as well.

The contact owns a 2012 toyota rav4. While driving 40 mph and attempting to clean the windshield, the fluid failed to exit the windshield washer reservoir. Also, while attempting to brake in the snow at 5 mph, the abs failed to engage and the contact had to repeatedly depress the brake pedal to stop the vehicle. Additionally, the tire pressure indicator remained illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 8,000.

The car was parked in the driveway with the doors locked and the windows rolled up.sometime between 10pm and 5:30am there was a fire that created enough heat to melt the coating on the front windshield and blow out the front windshield, melt the center of the dash and the area between the visors where the controls for the sunroof and interior lights were.it also caused a short in the wiring that resulted in turning on the headlights even though the switch was off.we had to disconnect the car battery to turn off the lights.toyota did an investigation and decided that the aurora be any baby on the dash spontaneously combusted in the middle of the night causing the fire and damage.since there have been reports ofother toyotas having problems with electrical i thought you would want to know about this case.

Wiring harness that controls normal 2wd/4wd has been chewed by rodents leaving vehicle stuck in 4wd. Vehicle was parked on garage apron when wires were chewed.

Power door lock actuators in all doors have failed.the drivers door actuator failed first.the actuators in each remaining door including the tailgate door have subsequently failed as well.(the date used in this report to indicate when the problem happened is approximate and refers to the initial problem with the driver's door.)two different toyota service centers have determined the actuators need to be replaced.one dealer noted that they had seen this issue in many other toyota vehicles.a quick internet search turns up several pages discussing this issue.a search of this site also revealed similar complaints with other model year rav4's.each toyota service center estimated a cost of approximately $400 for each actuator plus labor costs to replace the part.it is important to note that while the front and rear drivers-side and passenger-side doors have manual latches inside the vehicle, the tailgate door does not.the lack of a manual latch and keyed lock in the tailgate door means that the tailgate door cannot be opened at all.this is very problematic for both convenience and safety, particularly in those rav4's with the third row seat.in the event of an accident or vehicle fire, passengers in the third-row seat would be forced to either exit through one of the other doors or break a window to exit the vehicle.when i contacted toyota regarding this issue, i was told initially to have my local toyota service center evaluate the problem and call back to toyota to discuss and see if toyota would be able to help at all.when i called back to toyota, i was put on hold for an inconvenient amount of time, then simply told that toyota would not help, presumably because my vehicle's warranty has expired.i hope that toyota will work with the nhtsa to take a proactive approach to rectify this problem for all affected toyota vehicles and owners.

My 4wheel drive light traction light and engine light cone on. I was afraid to drive it but i had it checked out and it's a sensor problem . This has been a problem since 2007

This problem has to do with the rav4 gear shifter sticking and/or deformed.the problem is addressed for years 2013-2015 in toyota tsb 0145-14; however, the problem also exists in the 2012 model.the 2012 rav4 can have a sticking or deformed gear shifter.this could be caused by coffee having been spilled into the area.

On thursday 18 december, my wife and i left springfield, missouri to dallas, texas to visit our family for the christmas holiday. We were driving our recently purchased 2012 rav4 with approximately 33,000 miles which we purchased in late september 2014. We stopped several times during our trip to refuel and allow my wife, who is 6 month pregnant, a chance to stretch her legs.for much of the trip, i used cruise control when possible at varying speeds from 65 mph (in missouri) to 75 mph (in parts of oklahoma). At approximately 4:30 pm, while driving through tushka, oklahoma we approached a stoplight where the speed limit dropped from 65 to 45 mph. The light was red, a semi was stopped at the light, and i attempted to apply the car's brakes. As i did so, the car felt as if it was fighting my attempts to stop it. I had to keep both hands on the wheel, and i do not know if the cruise control disengaged. As i approached the semi, i pressed harder on the brakes in order to stop my vehicle. Finally with less than a car length, my car came to a full stop.with my foot still pressed firmly on the brakes, both my wife and i heard the car begin to make a high-pitched noise. I immediately put the car into 'park,' at which point the engine began to rev and i saw that the rpm gauge on the car rose to 7-8,000 rpm. At this point, i turned the car off at the ignition switch. My intent was to re-start the car and safely pull over after we proceeded through the intersection. However, at this point the light turned green and, as i restarted the car, we were hit from behind by another vehicle.on friday, the 19th, i took my vehicle to toyota of lewisville (tx) where they proved unable to diagnose the problem. I was contacted by a representative on 12/29/2014 who informed me that nothing would be done unless the event "replicated" or someone had been injured.

Four-wheel drive, traction stability, check engine light all went on and will not shut off. Driving in 4-wheel drive put strain on engine. Plus there are many complaints about this situation.$545 for service is cost for common to this car issue. The contact owns a 2012 toyota rav4. When the contact attempted to drive the vehicle, the check engine, trac off, and 4wd warning indicators remained illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 108,000.

I could not start my vehicle on 7/26/2018.i called road side assistance and got a jump start from a power device. I was driving towards toyota service. Suddenly my vehicle stopped on the middle of the road.it was completely disabled:no power stirring, not even alarm signal working.if this happened on a highway, more likely,i would not be alive today.same driver who would hit me from behind, because disabled vehical stoped in a moment.i am sure, nobody must drive toyota rav4 2012.if battery is not functioning, theremust be indication on the dashboard before the vehicle get disabled, but there was nothing to tell me that vehicle is not drivable.for reference :a) battery.true star battery. Waranty 2 years. Died in 10 months.b) the incident filed in toyota as #1808151393. No resolution. C) service. Fred haas toyota. 22435 sh 249, houston, tx 77070.c) attached:toyota owner's manualmalfanctioned battery indicator.

Abrupt speed changes in normal speed and cruise control, radio and clock flashing occasionally, low tire pressure constantly, damage in air conditioning.

This incident occurred on a tues nite in nov2012 at 930est. I had been playing bridge at a club house . I attempted to start car(this is a keyless ignition system)bynormal procedure. Press brake, then press start button.nothing happened!i waited a few seconds, tried again,no joy. I got out to maybe hitch a ride, but all others had left.i opened and closed all doors plus thetailgate. I got back in at the car started ok.about 5 months later after attending a pizza party at walmartparking lot 3pm hot day, the problem recurred. I slammed all doors again and the car started.i don't know if slamming doors is electrically involved, maybe a time delay is the answer.the next time was on july 18 2013. Ihad been playing bridge atthe clubhouse at 1pm, i finished at4pm (another hot day) the car would not starti noticed thewindows would not work, infactnothing electrical would work.icalled my road service and they verified bat was low, they charged for just a few minutes and car started.i drove immediately to the local toyota dealer.they could not make the problem reappear.they kept the car overnite and supposedly went overthe circuits.by the way the mileage on the car was 3947 milesand car was 14 months old!they told me to have it towed to them the next timebut that's no always convenient. My 2 yr warranty expired in may of 2014 and i havehad 2 additional occurrences ,one in june 2014 and onein july2014. Im afraid to go on any trps out of town for fear it will happen again.i would like for toyota to furnish me a schematic ofthe circuitry involved orprovide a bypass switch so that the rf circuitry can be disabled and the car could be started like a normal car!by the way, this failure has occurred6 times,4 times while in warranty!

The contact owns a 2012 toyota rav4. The contact stated that the air conditioning unit failed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was discovered that the parts needed for the repair were not available. The contact was advised by the dealer that the vehicle was included in nhtsa campaign number: 15v577000 (visibility). The dealer stated that the parts were not yet available to any of the dealers. A recall notice was also received for nhtsa campaign number: 16v096000 (seat belts). The contact called the dealer and was advised that the parts for the recall were also not available and could not provide a time frame in which the parts would become available. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 24,000. Updated 06/23/16*lj

I drove vehicle in the morning, no indications of any steering problems.during my drive in the late afternoon, the power steering assist stopped working.i was stopped at a left turn lane and heard a faint "click" sound from below the steering wheel area at around knee level.this sound was not that of a "turn signal switch" click, it was just a "click".the engine stayed running, the eps warning light came on, the steering wheel was very hard to turn (i have carpel tunnel in my right hand), with assistance from my passenger we were able to complete the turn.we drove vehicle home without power steering and parked it.my brother-in-law came that evening to inspect for failure.vehicle started up and power steering worked without problems.since no eps warning light came on, he volunteered to take vehicle home to test drive until problem recurred.the dealer told him to drive the vehicle to them to have problem evaluated.he has put 500 miles on the odometer so far and problem has not recurred.he said the dealer will just give me the run around if no "hard code" is set and condition of no" power assist" is present. I am afraid of driving this vehicle now because of this problem.

The contact owns a 2012 toyota rav4. While driving approximately 30 mph, the 4-wheel drive, traction control, and the check engine indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to capitol toyota (783 auto group ave, ne, salem, oregon 97301) where the technician turned off the check engine indicator and performed an oil change; however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and did not assist. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 62,655.

The contact owns a 2012 toyota rav4. The contact stated that the avs warning light remained illuminated. The failure recurred once. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 14v054000 (electronic stability control, service brakes, hydraulic). The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 19,000.

2013 toyota rav4 w/ 40k miles had third actuator power door latch fail on a third door in 5 months.looking at other recent complaints, of a similar nature, this may indeed be the result of a manufacturing defect.please consider issuing a recall.most recent failure is the door my 2 year old uses, i would hate to think of an emergency where i couldn't get her out of the car because it was locked.when the first door, driver, went out (dec 2016), i had it fixed at my mechanic thinking it was a fluke.when the second door, passenger, went out mar 2017, i contacted toyota & was told to get the problem confirmed by the dealership, which i did.they offered me a goodwill pymt for the second door only, not the first, despite how recently the first door failed.in may 2017 the third door, back driver, is now failing & the toyota customer service rep said they "are declining to offer me any assistance in fixing this actuator or any future actuator locks because they go out like lightbulbs every 4 years." i cannot believe toyota knowingly manufactures vehicles w/ a part that it 'expects' to fail every 4 years, leaving their customers with a $2500 bill that frequently. We escalated this from the initial "cust service" rep, alex s., to his supervisor, ashley, and they both said they are choosing not to help us any further with this problem on door number 3 (or 1) or doors 4 and 5 when they inevitably go out as well.my husband also owns a 2013 rav4, so we are being told to expect to pay $5000 every 4 years if we want our doors to lock.we have purchased toyotas based on their reputation of quality and i am baffled toyota is knowingly sticking their customers with expensive parts that fail with this frequency.it is also worth noting, my car isn't even 4 years old yet and was just over 3 years old when the i experienced the first failure dec 2016.

The check engine, trac off and 4wd lights will all come on together and stay on for a day or two and then go off again.this keeps happening

Driver side rear quarter panel started on fire.this occurred after an approximately 4 mile drive. I believe the fire started on the drive. I parked the vehicle in a parking lot with only one other vehicle. When i was walking into the store i smelled burning plastic but did not relate it to my car burning. I was in the store about 5 minutes.when i walked out i saw the fire. There was no outside influence to the fire and nothing inside the vehicle vehicle.the only thing in that area of the vehicle is wiring.

Trying to use the 'hands free' feature of the bluetooth feature in the rav4 toyota, i ran into a curb trying to find a telephone number in the phone book. I had to purchase a new tire for over $200. And i just had the car for approx 2 or 3 days. I can't believe toyota would even have a bluetooth feature that requires you to use the rotary tuner to find a telephone number. The salesperson told me to get asmart phone and it may help, but it did not.the bluetooth in my rav4 is almost useless!who would design or put into a car a feature that wouldalmost insure accidents if used as designed?i thought i was getting a bluetooth that would allow voice commands.as it is, i can only use voice commands using my phone and only talk using bluetooth. -- some hands free feature!!!my 1999 camry had a better interface with my flip phone than my 2012 rav4.i feel the feature was mis-represented.i have spent the last two years trying to get my samsung galaxy s3 to work with the rav4 bluetooth.it is useless.i think toyota should update the software or whatever is needed in my radio to get the hands-free feature more usable.

While foot was one the brake and vehicle was stopped the engine accelerated by itself. The car lurched forward i slapped the shifter into neutral and shut the vehicle off.this has happened two other times since. I took the vehicle to the toyota dealer the last time this occurred9/13/14 they put it on the computer and could not detect any faults.i googled this condition and found similar complaints online.note each time this has occurred prior to the acceleration the anti skid light has come on as i was applying the brake.

I have just begun having the issue that many others complain about - the check engine light + 4wd + trac lights all came on (2012 toyota rav4, 100,000 miles).we tried some simple fixes at home, based on the many online posts about this issue (checked/refastened hoses, battery connections, etc.), and the lights came right back on.took to our usual mechanic, and they diagnosed o2 sensor problems, both bank 1 & bank 2.paid $750 for them to replace both sensors.the 3 dashboard lights came back on as i was driving home after picking up my car from the service.the sensors were replaced with genuine toyota parts.the car is now back at the mechanic - they said the same o2 sensor codes are coming up when they check the diagnostics.this appears to be a chronic problem for toyota, and really needs to be investigated and dealt with.i had the same problem with an earlier toyota sienna, and spent much time and money trying to fix the issue, which was never resolved.there are more than 15 years of complaints about this issue - please help us, the consumers!

Since january 13, i have had my battery die on me 4 times (including the first time) - twice in january and the others a few months in between. It never sat for more than a few days. Brand new car end of november 2012, so it was only a year old. I think there may be some discrepancy between the battery and where you can plug in your ipod for music... That's the only thing that was 'left on'/plugged in (i checked every time). The toyota guy said that shouldn't be issue, but nothing else makes sense. I even went to a battery specialist guy and he said something was just slowly draining and a good charge overnight would do the trick.

O2 sensor and other sensors keep lighting up

2012 rav4 - for no apparent reason my check engine light, trac off light and 4x4 light have been coming on for a few days, then off, then on, etc.we got a code of p0607, but the car is showing no symptoms associated with that code error.the vehicle is driving fine.i have checked the battery connection and the gas cap.based on a large number of online complaints, i would ask that nhtsa seriously look into this issue and strongly consider a recall that will actually fix the problem for owners.there have been a number who have taken the vehicle in for repair, only to have the lights back on a few days later.please hold toyota accountable for this.

At first 3 warning lights were on where i was driving at speed around 10mph: check, 4wd, trac off.then suddenly i could not turn the steering wheel easily, and i realized i was loosing control of the vehicle. I made a decision to move out of the busy road and turn into a small street. This i did, but only was able to stop the car on the other side of the street. As there were no car driving on the street, i did not crash my car. After the car was stopped, i noticed that an additional warning was on: electric powering steering system warning light. The car was towed to toyota dealership.

On january 25 2014 i was driving in s snowy and icy conditions.i was only driving about 20 miles an hour.when braking, turning corners, or generally driving on the bad roads, the electronic stability control, anti-lock brakes, and traction control features of my rav4 did not work, causing the car to slide all over the road, almost causing me to hit another vehicle.this has continued throughout the winter;the light for stability control on the dashboard goes on, but the anti lock brakes, esc, and traction control do not work and the rav4 slides all over. Given the bad weather we are experiencing this winter, it has caused me to not drive the vehicle, which is a major inconvenience for our family. I took the rav4 into the local toyota dealer for this issue on january 31, 2014.they said they could not reproduce the problem in their shop so dismissed it with no action and no repairi read a couple of weeks other that toyota has recalled rav4's for exactly this issue; however, when i called the dealer about the recall, he still insists that there is nothing wrong with my rav4. So far i have gotten nothing from toyota about this recall, and i don't feel safe driving the rav4 this winter, a major inconvenience in commuting to work.i feel my rav4 is undrivable this winter.

Without cause or reason, the "brake actuator" circuit malfunctioned causing the car to lose cruise control, abs, anti-skid and sporadic tail light problems (lights will stay on or come on when the car is parked). I brought it to my toyota dealer and they were unable to identify the problem.the next day, the roads were snow covered and the brakes locked up approaching an intersection causing the car to skid into another vehicle.when i brought the car back to the dealer, after the body was repaired, they located the problem and said it would cost $2900 to replace.before i was able to have the vehicle repaired, the wiring caught fire, probably because the taillights came on by themselves during the night, as they occasionally did (without a key in the ignition). The car was towed to the toyota dealer who estimates upwards of $10,000 for repairs to the computer and wiring system. The toyota service manager recommends we sell the $19,000 car for "wholesale."insurance will not cover the damage as it was a mechanical malfunction.toyota corp. In california, consumer experiences department, will not give me any help as the car is 21,000 over the 36,000 mile warranty. How or where can i get a lawyer or consumer advocate to help me?

Accelerating from a stop light, the car lost power. The electric motor stopped and the check ev system warning came on. There was no engine power, power steering or power brakes. The car was stopped in the middle of the street.

Engine, in idle and in gear, suddenly surged. It propelled the car forward in driveway and struck a car about 1 foot-18 inches in front of it, damaging front bumper of our car and rear bumper of other car. Damage to our car was quoted at $878 and second car (our granddaughter's) was less. Reported to toyota. They sent analyst to check "black box" and reported to me accelerator pedal and brakes were ok. Not car's fault.i have experienced this surge many times since leasing the car 30 months ago but no accidents. Each time i reported it to dealer. Service man said he found nothing wrong.

Rough engine, car speed up without feet on pedal, slow brakingi took the car into dealer the next day(3/19/2014) this am and they told me they have to duplicate what i had experienced. They stated they did not see anything on the computer data, but will test on next morning of 3/20/2014 to drive it.the complaints were that i was driving in a 70 mile zone and thecar accelerated to 90 milesthe car shifted out of d drive to 3d on it's own while driving and also rough engine while accelerating higher than the speed limit, and while braking, isaw very little stoppage.also same day near my home,i stopped at a stop sign, when taking off the car jerks forward to 22 miles.this was not the first time i had reported to them, was after i had the 2010 toyota rava4 about similar problems, they offered to buy it back the 2010 model in return for the 2012 toyota rav4 that i got in 2012.my maintenance is up to date also.it is scary when you experience a problem like this, thank god for no accident.update as oflast night no communication on findings or repairs,i received a call while reporting this information to you(safer car), a rep[xxx],stated they cannot find anything wrong with car, they checked all data drove thecar could not fine anything,i asked about engine and transmission, he stated that they checked the levels, data could not find anything, for me to could come pick the car up, i insist they do a more intensive look into this, the guy became aggressive, and stated he has to check with his managerto check again later today.tony meyers manager of gainesville toyotacalled stated could not duplicate what i was experiencing, stated he drove the car to the mall of georgia , he found a down shift when going down a hill, car was safe, and that the shift was a normal thing, and there is nothing else they could do and for me to come and pick up the car.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

I was stopped at a stop sign waiting to make a right hand turn.a car was coming from the left.with my foot on the brake, the car felt as if it were going to take off.i pushed my foot on the brake pedal as far down as i could.luckily, the approaching car turned down the street i was stopped on and i was able to turn right.as soon as i took my foot off the brake the car surged forward like the gas pedal was stuck.this happened about one quarter mile from my house.i made it home safely.after i got in the driveway, i turned off the engine and restarted the car back up again.i drove it up and down the driveway a few times and it was fine.my husband checked the floor mat and it was in place.very scary!

This has happened about three times.when i am stopping the car with my foot on the brake the engine suddenly revs up and i have to really exert pressure on the brake to prevent the car from lurching ahead.after a few seconds of braking, the engine stops revving.

On feb 26, 2015 i turned left into my bank going maybe 5 mph.then i turn left again into a parking spot.i put on my brake to stop and the engine started roaring and pushing the brake with both feet the car would not stop.going about 7 to 10 feet up curb and bumping into a flower barrel planter.as soon as it hit something the car disengaged and i was able to stop car and put in reverse. Lower front end damage occurred.it happen one other time last august 2014. I was pulling into a gas station and the same thing. Engine roaring and wouldn't stop with both feet pushing hard on the brake. The car stopped when it bumped into the step up that the gas pumps were on allowing me to back up and drive again. No damage occurred.

I was waiting at a stop light on norristown road to cross bethlehem pike in springhouse, pa at approximately 5 pm on 5/22/15.i was first in line to cross the intersection in the direction of picking up 309 south in about 1/2 mile.i had been waiting at the light for a minute or two when my car surged forward.i put both feet on the brake but i was moving into the intersection nonetheless.there was sparse traffic and it was safe for me to turn right onto bethlethem pike.almost as soon as i made the turn onto bethlehem pike the surge dissipated and the engine performance returned to normal.the whole incident took about 30 seconds to a minute.it was probably ill-advised, but i continued to drive to my destination, home.upon reaching home and thinking about what had happenned i had the car towed the next morning (yesterday) to a dealership for repair. The car at this moment is there awaiting repair, i had to estimate the number of miles on the odometer.on the first leg of my errand on that day (friday 5/22), i drove north on rt 309.i noticed that at freeway speed the tachometer was in the neighborhood of 3000 rpm.i had done a long trip with this car the previous sunday, 5/17, and at cruising speed the tachometer was in the vicinity of 2100 rpm.

While attempting to stop for stop signs or traffic lights, the engine started revving at a high rpm. It required shifting out of drive into neutral to keep the car from accelerating forward.occurred about 5 times over a two month period.

I took my vehicle in for service due to an engine knock. After 90 minutes to troubleshoot i was told that there was a major problem and that my vehicle was not safe to drive. Engine mount was broken, needed rear differential replaced. Mechanic had never seen anything like this.

My 2012 rav4 main evap canister went bad at only 77,113 miles. It almost costed me $1550 to get this part replaced, but thankfully was able to convince the dealership to get me a deal on the repair. There is no reason for this part to go bad so quickly. I do not top off my gas and i have had it in for routine maintenanceat the dealership since it was purchased. To make the situation worse, when the check engine light comes on, the 4wd and traction control units turn off, making my car hard to control in the snow. I was told by tuffy this is a common thing and that was a previous recall for older vehicles. The code was on for a few weeks, didn't clear. I had it diagnosed at tuffy and the dealership, same diagnosis. I have also had a problem with the transmission jerking when i put the car into drive, even in warm weather, when it's the first drive of the day. This has been occurring since i purchased the vehicle with 40k on it.

As i was driving on a highway going straight with a speed of approx. 60 mph, i heard a strange engine noise. I saw the oil pressure light flickering and then i exited the highway, parking on a nearby street. I checked the oil and the dip stick was dry. My car was towed to a auto shop. The first shop ( not toyota) determined the oil leak was from the oil filter cap o-ring which part of it flatten and extended out causing a large amount of oil to leak out.the second shop( not toyota) who did the last oilchange ( unknown brand of filter kit used) replaced the original plastic oil filter cap with an after market metal one and refilled approx. 3 quarts of oil. I was never told what caused this problem with the oil filter cap o-ring. Since then the car has been running fine but i'm concerned this might happen again.

My o2 sensors continue to go out causing multiple dash lights to come on along with gas consumption if not replaced immediately! i had the car for 2 days when this happened, now again. This is ridiculous

In a paved parking lot i attempted to park by applying the brakes but the car surged forward. It only stopped by going over a curb and hitting a tree at the perimeter of the parking space.

Unknown. Vehicle is having problems with fuel system. Vehicle intermittently runs rough like engine is not getting enough gas.

On september 6, 2014 at 4:20pm while pulling forwardinto a parking space the car had an unintended acceleration.this is the third time with the exact same circumstances.i pulled forward into a parking space and stopped.i placed the car into reverse with my foot on the brake to re-adjust the position of the vehicle in the space.backed out without applying foot to accelerator. I applied the braked when car was out of the space.with foot on brake thenshifted into drive and the car immediately accelerated to 4,000 rpms.with my foot firmly on the brake the car continued at 4,000 rpms for three seconds then dropped the rpms to 1100. The weather was clear, 84 degrees, 77% humidity, dry pavement, no all weather floor mats.the car had recently had an ecu programming update at 17,000 miles, when at toyota for an oil change.the problem started immediately after the programming update.i have had the vehicle back twice and toyota can not find the issue.

3 weeks after the 50,000 mile service, on october 22 2019, i was driving 35 mph on soquel avenue, when the car became unresponsive, i lost all power and control of the vehicle, and "check ev system" came onto the instrument cluster. I was able to coast to the side of the road into a bus stop, turned the car off, and had the car towed into the dealership. The dealership was unable to replicate the symptom and informed me that it was due to the 12v battery. They replaced it and assured me the issue would not happen again. On nov 11, 2019, the issue happened again while i was on the highway this time. I had the car towed in again to toyota, who informed me that "some rav4 evs have been in the shop for months, unable to be diagnosed". I researched the symptom online and found that it related to a 2015 recall that related to the electric traction motor. Toyota's description of the f01 recall: in the involved rav4 ev's, components in the electric vehicle traction motor assembly, which is part of the propulsion system, may cause the vehicle to shift to 'neutral' due to a software issue. This condition will also trigger a 'check ev system' warning message on the instrument panel and turn on a malfunction indicator lamp. If the vehicle shifts to 'neutral', this will result in a complete loss of drive power, which can increase the risk of a crash.i informed the dealership that my symptoms matched up with recall exactly, and then was told that it had nothing to do with this as this recall had been performed on april 18 2016 when i had my car in. Upon further questioning, i was also told that some of the rav4 evs had had their motors replaced as part of this recall, in addition to the software change, but mine had not. Toyota failed to recognize this flaw not once but twice and i am seeking compensation for failure to properly recognize and address a known issue.

I parked my car in residential neighborhood and proceeded to cross street with my car parked behind me.thankfully a man facing car yelled "your car!"my new car was rolling down the street backwards, gaining speed down the incline, headed for curb, sidewalk and huge tree.i chased the car down the street, got door open, jumped inside vehicle as it was moving and slammed on brake, injuring my back and shoulder in the process.the push-button start allowed car to "free-wheel" out of control when turned off, left in drive, and key left in car.i am in and out of car many times a day.no other car i have ever owned will allow me, without warning, to leave car if left in "drive".i was not informed by toyota that push-button ignition would allow my car to become a potential weapon, free wheeling, if left in drive and unattended.i would like this situation to be remedied to save lives and property damage.even after going through this frightening experience, i cannot be sure it won't happen again without an effective warning system.

After owning my new 2012 rav 4 for only 3 days, i visited a friend's house and attempted to park my car on a slightly sloped driveway. I got out of my car after turning off the push button start but neglected to put the car in park. As i was getting out of the car, someone shouted, "your car is rolling - step on the brake!". By the time i was able to reenter the car, it had already rolled into another vehicle in front of it. My rav 4 was damaged, as was the vw passat wagon it ran into. The damage to my brand new car is estimated to be $1000. The damage estimate to the other car is not know yet but at least in that vicinity. Luckily, no one was in between the 2 cars. This is obviously a huge safety concern.

My 2012 has done this virtually from day 1. When braking, there is a sudden acceleration for 1/4 to 1/2 second at the time the transmission downshifts. I also notice it while driving at high speeds and braking. It is more dangerous at slower speeds especially when braking at a light with someone in front of you. It feels like you are pressing both the brake and accelerator at the same time. It does not do this all the time. Maybe once or twice a day. I think it has to do with how hard you brake and what speed you are going. It is most noticeable just before you come to a stop. It always happens just as the transmission automatically downshifts and most noticeable when it downshifts to second or first. I notice it when braking say from 65 to 55 mph as well, but the sudden acceleration at that speed has no or minimal affect and is not that noticeable.

I got out of my car and forgot to put it in park.because the car has keyless start, i was able to leave the car without taking a key out.the car started to roll back and because i live at the top of a hill, it began to pick up speed.my neighbor lives at the bottom of my driveway and the car was heading straight to their house.lukily, the car hit a tree which stopped it from hitting their house and potentially killing someone.the adjuster just told me my car is totaled due to the speed at which it hit the tree.however, he also indicated that the speed at which the car was travelling when it hit the tree, it may have hit the neighbor's house and continued through the other side.this is a significant safety flaw of which no one i speak to about it is aware.they actually test it which their own car and notice the same issue.in my opinion, there should be a modification to this feature to prevent this issue.especially is there are kids near the car.

The contact owns a 2012 toyota rav4. When the ignition was turned to the on position while the vehicle was parked on an incline, the vehicle moved backwards when it was shifted into drive. When the vehicle was parked on a decline, the ignition was turned to the on position and the vehicle moved forward when shifted into reverse. The failures recurred numerous times. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failures. The failure mileage was approximately 7.

The vehicle was towed to a toyota dealer. The mechanic had not diagnose or repaired the failure problem. The manufacturer was made aware of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 23,302.lj

Car can be turned off while car is in drive. When foot is taken off brake the car can roll as if in neutral.

Both front drive axles exhibited signs of severe corrosion damage leading to complete loss of lubricant and had to be replaced at 34,056 miles. The vehicle is garaged and not subject to any unusual operating conditions. Symptoms included severe cracking and popping noises on turns.

Engine, in idle and in gear, suddenly surged. It propelled the car forward in driveway and struck a car about 1 foot-18 inches in front of it, damaging front bumper of our car and rear bumper of other car. Good afternoon sir/ma'am,i am a government employee at dover afb.this vehicle is not mine; however, it was one i had interaction today.as i walked to my own vehicle i was summoned to a 2012-2013 toyota rav4 to a distressed mother.her son (approximately 2 years old) had somehow managed to pull the rear passenger seatbelt (shoulder piece) all the way out to the locking point, got it wrapped around his neck, and it began choking him.by the time i got there it was so tight and already unbuckled but unable to be freed from his neck.it took a mere few seconds to realize it was further locking despite holding it and trying to keep [xxx] still.i asked his mother for a boxcutter which she had in the center console but was still unable to cut it from him myself and she was obviously too distraught to do it or assist me.i sent her for help and another co-worker helped me by cutting it as i held him.my questions is this...after doing a little research on the subject and people being well versed in ways to prevent.this was a very preventative mother already, not sure there was much else she could do and simply having a box cutter in the car seem ludicrous.has there been any thought on making a button for parents to push to manually unlock these belts to prevent this?there should be a manual release and i just do not know that i have ever seen one.i am trying to do patient teaching at my position as well.any help would be greatly appreciated to prevent a tragedy from occurring.luckily my experience turned out happy but it was definitely frightening.v/r[xxx]vin unavailableinformation redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).?

I was notified at the end of april that there was a recall regarding the safety of the backseat seatbelts possibly separating in the event of a frontal crash.i was provided with a courtesy vehicle and have been driving it for over 2 months while still paying for my vehicle that sits in a dealership lot awaiting a fix.i continue to be told that there is not yet a fix for this recall.i find it unacceptable to not have identified a fix or made parts available to rectify this matter.at this time, i would like an alternative to this matter.

So that i can get the seatbelt replacement completed.this is becoming urgent on my end as i need to have the recall work completed before i can have the car shipped back to the us. I cannot ship the car until the recall has been processed.i pcs shortly and need to ship the car so it can be used upon arrival.

We received a recall notice and been calling the dealer repeatedly. They state as of today they still can not correct the defect as they have no parts and have not been trained. This recall affects the rear passenger safety belts in the vehicle. There is a potential the seat belts may become cut or separated. I have a family to drive around so i asked that toyota provide a loaner vehicle until the issue could be resolved. I contacted both toyota customer service and my local toyota dealership, both denied my request for a safe vehicle to drive to protect my family. I also have an infant and my infant can only ride in the back of the car. The rav 4 is a four passenger vehicle and we were advised by a car seat specialist not to install the car seat in the middle. We would like a loaner vehicle as soon as possible and we may seek legal representation to take action against toyota in order to protect my family from this unsafe vehicle. Nhtsa recall 16v-096

The head restraint will not let me sit up comfortably. It pushes my head forward causing neck pain.can't just lean seat back more as some suggest. That would just decrease the inadequate back support in the seat even further!

The angle of the forward-leaning headrests makes it impossible to sit up straight while driving. They push the driver's head forward, causing neck and back pain. Very uncomfortable and dangerous since many people are turning the headrests around in order to drive comfortably. Thank you.

The rear seat shakes over any rough surface. In watching the headrest for the rear seat in the rear view mirror while driving there is about a 2-inch sideways travel. Have tried the seat in various positions and the problem remains. By rough i don't mean potholes...things like changing lanes over reflector buttons, freeways with rain grooves, things like that. My 12 year old jeep grand cherokee's rear seat doesn't shake at all in these conditions, but this rav4 rear seat most certainly does. The shaking is so bad sometimes that it rattles. I am very concerned about an infant car seat strapped into this back seat as the infant my be exposed to excessive shaking or vibration.i took it to the dealership (toyota carlsbad, carlsbad ca) on october 7th 2013 and they verified the issue. Rather than take steps to correct it they tested another rav4 in the same way and found that it too had the same condition as mine. Based on this they tell me that it is a 'normal condition'. I believe it is a design flaw. Never have i seen a car with a seat shake such as this. In testing further i find that if someone sits in the front passenger seat the rear seat shaking seems to reduce. If someone sits in the rear seat and they weigh 150 pounds or so there is a minor vibration felt and the shaking is almost non-existent. However, if only the driver is in the car the shaking resumes or any less-than-perfect road condition.i feel as though toyota needs to address this issue primarily for the risk of injury to infants strapped in the seat as well as cockpit noise (rattle). It is a flaw in the design of the vehicle to be sure.

I was slowly maneuvering into a parking space when the car revved up, jumped over the concrete barrier, over the curb and sidewalk.i was headed directly toward a building and a large plate glass window.the brakes did not stop the car, and felt squishy when i pushed them all the way to the floor.i swerved to the right, turned off the key and hit a parked car in order to stop.i also want to mention that the tire pressure gauge light would come on any time i was driving on the highway at speeds over 50 mph.

When pulling my 2012 toyota rav4 into a parking space at very low rate of speed, i tapped the brake pedal and the engine immediately started roaring and accelerating out of control.the car jumped the curb that was directly in front of the parking spot, crossed the road, jumped another curb, and landed in a muddy ravine.the car was towed to the toyota dealership to be repaired and the tech couldn't find anything wrong with the brakes.i reported the incident to toyota.they sent an investigator.they claim the edr detected no defects in the vehicle and blamed it on either me mistaking the accelerator for the brakes or my custom fitted, lock-in weathertech floor mat which has been in place since day one of owning this vehicle since 2012.i had never had any problems with the vehicle before this and i have always loved my car but am now terrified that it will accelerate on it's own again.

I was driving approximately 20 mph. When tried to stop at the traffic signal and pressed the brake then instead of stopping the car was going forward. It almost hit the car at front of me. There was a sudden acceleration and rpm went upto 9000. I pressed the brake pedal multiple number of times then the car engine stopped. Once the vehicle was restarted, it resumed as normal. It was really scary.

Slowing down at a stop sign the brakes pedal became very soft and the engine started revving up and the vehicle moved forward while i was pressing on the brake. This has happened three times since january and it's very scary. I've made an appointment with toyota for tomorrow 6/3.

I just read about someone in canton, illinoiswho seems to have the same issue as mine; we have a 2012( manufactured in july 2012, purchased in august 2012, ) rav4 limited with a v-6, the first time i had a stopping problem was about 2 months ago, when pressing on the brake pedal the engine rpm went to about 3,000 and i could not stop the vehicle , so pushed the start button to shut it down, attempted to repeat this problem when stopped, with the selector in park i noted if my foot was slightly atan angle when pressing on the brake pedal , it would catch the accelerator pedal at the same time, would run the rpm up to 3,000 or more depending on how much pressure was applied to the brake pedal, i am sure there a number of people who wear size 12 shoes, my wife drives this vehicle most of the time; this happened again on the 23rd of february at a traffic light with a camera, i overshot the limit line , may get a citation in the mail? have previously documented this with toyota customer service, just to get the standardresponse that there have been no complaints about this problem and they are confidant there is no problems with this design ; my experienceindicates there is serious problem with the brake and accelerator pedal either being too close or at the same height , someone will be injured or killed at some point , the 269 hpengine over rides the brake system , minehas smoked the first time it happened .; i also notified our local toyota dealership in aurora, colorado , the service manager is looking into this , my thoughts in light of all the previousproblems with stuck gas pedals , this should be resolved quickly .

This is a leased car. This date was the first episode of a recurring problem. Each time it took place on a local street. Each time as the driver ( my wife or myself ) was stepping on the brake to bring the car to a full stop the car suddenly started to accelerate. This first incident was noteworthy but was attributed to the newness of the vehicle. The three incidents that followed were considerably worse. We contacted the dealer from whom the car is leased and were told to bring the car in . We brought the car in on august 23 and picked it up on august 30. At that time we were told that the car had been tested and nothing wa wrong with it. In other words, toyota has no explanation of why these four incidents took place. This vehicle was purchased so that we could safely transport our grandchildren.the lack of resolution of the problem leaves us with an unsafe vehicle that we would never use for the original intended purpose.the august 29, 2012, wall street journal column'me and my car' has a letter describing a very similar problem on a toyota highlander that was brought to the dealer twice. Each time the letter writer was told what seems to be toyota's stock answer, "nothing is wrong'. The wsj columnist responds that ' complaints about the electronic speedcontrol systems on toyota (and other brands )are frequent'. He goes on to suggest that figuring the cause will take several visits to toyota. No additional visits were scheduled or even suggested by toyota.

I started having problems 04/06/2015 with my brakes grinding and vibrating the front of my 2012 rav 4. I took it in to the dealership and they put new brake pads and resurfaced the front rotors. 42,968 miles on the car.. I was told these new brake pads had a life time warranty on them..again dec. 2016 i started having the same issues so i had to take the rav 4 back in for service and i was told that the brake warranty would not cover the brakes until the brake pads are worn down more.i can not drive a car with my brakes grinding and vibrating the front end of my car when i use the brakes. The brakes are grinding down into the rotors because i was told the rotors where blue.. Which means they are hot. I'm not a mechanic but these pads i'm being told are to hard and they are grinding into the rotors. I was to hear back from the toyota garage because they where to order these new type pads for my rav4. I waited a week and never heard back from the garage. So i took the suv to another repair service to have these brakes and rotors replaced.. The grinding and vibrating has stopped. And i feel safe to now drive my rav 4.. When your having grinding // vibrating of the brakes on your car i don't believe that's a safe way to continue to drive a vehicle.. I didn't even have to drive over 35 miles an hour for this grinding// vibrating to start. It would only happen 50-60% of the time i would use my brakes.. But that's 50-60% of the time to much. The brakes on a vehicle are very important. I made this repair garage give me the brake pads and the rotors. So i did keep them..i'm not going to be the accident that takes my life "then there"s a recall" on these faulty brake pads.. Being to hard and grinding into the rotors. This is my 5th toyota and my 3rd rav4. So i know what they should be driving like. And i never had any of my brakes ever replaced prior to these..

Toyota's conclusion-nothing wrong stated "possible pedal misapplication", suggested i buy flat toyota floor mats had weathertechs, i purchased new driver's mat & toyota installed. 5th-5/25/15 leaving grocery store 10 mph went to stop before exiting lot rav would not stop engine loud threw into neutral finally stopped. 5/25/15 emailed ceo of toyota n america received call back & made appt for 5/29/15 to have rav looked over again at dealership for sudden acceleration issues. Received call back on 5/29/15 from nicki @ toyota executive office-stated that toyota stands by their march 2015 assessment that there is nothing wrong with my rav & if i have it towed to dealership by aaa, i would be responsible for all costs to have my vehicle serviced at dealership, would not be covered under any warranties. I have been driving for 40+ year & possible pedal misapplication 5 x's is a bunch of bull.

In a paved parking lot i attempted to park by applying the brakes but the car surged forward. It only stopped by going over a curb and hitting a tree at the perimeter of the parking space.

Driving in rush hour traffic and braking for car in front of me but nothing happened. Readjusted myself and pressed harder on brakes but still rolling. Brakes to floor but still moving. Had brake pressed to floor and ended up rolling into car in front of me. Minor scratches on my front but none on car ahead of me. Got out because i thought someone hit me from behind because couldn't explain why i couldn't stop. No damage to rear. Got back in car and drove home. Brakes worked fine since. Took car to dealership on saturday but they could not find anything wrong with them. Unsure what happened but i did not slam on brakes and was alert and paying attention when brakes failed momentarily. Dealership assured me car was fine. Hasn't happened since. Not sure what to do but someone from a rav4 site said i should post here.

When coming to a stop and my foot is on the brakes, the car continues to move forward. This has happened at least a dozen times: 3 times going downa bridge, twice on the interstate, and the rest is when i'm going down a hill and put my brakes on to stop. My daughter has been with me on three occurance. I have taken it to the dealership twice and they said they couldn't find anything wrong. This is a safety issue. So far i've been lucky and not hit the rear of another car, but i don't want to take a chance.

The contact owns a 2012 toyota rav-4. The contact stated that while driving 20 mph, she attempted to engage the brakes but it failed to stop the vehicle. The contact mentioned that the brake pedal sunk to the floorboard. The vehicle was taken to the dealer however, the technician was unable to diagnose the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 16,350. Updated 02/11/2014*lj

I am filing a complaint about spongy brakes behavior in a 2012 toyota rav4.the problem i was experiencing were the brake pedal traveling to the floor and reduced stopping power during application.the spongy behavior of the brake pedal was also present with engine off.i report this event to two separate toyota dealerships which technicians claimed this is a normal function and this is a soft pedal design (according to the first dealership).the second dealership showed me another similar vehicle (2011 toyota rav4) and it almost did the same thing (engine off - pedal was still spongy but was less than my vehicle).since being a ase master technician before becoming an mechanical engineer, i bleed the brakes which only helped a little and there were no fluid leaks.finally, i researched that the abs pump might need to be activated using a scanner to cycle the actuators that might hold air trapped inside.i took the car to my previous place on employment where i consulted this issue with the shop manager in which he agreed that this is a possibility.the shop manager performed the abs pump cycling process with the scanner and the brake pedal became hard and firm like it suppose to be (procedure time: 5 minutes!).i am very disappointed with toyota trained technicians and any good technician knows there is no such thing as soft pedal design especially with a vacuum brake booster with engine off (hydraulic fluid is only slightly compressible!).only vehicles with hydraulic brake booster can experience a brake pedal feeling spongy since the booster will continue to function after engine had been turned off (approx:10 ' 20 brake pedal applications ' diesel & very few gas vehicles).it seems to me toyota is skipping a step in there manufacturing process.

2012 rav4, second incident, 1st was dismissed.was driving approx 20 mph in a 35mph business district on 4 lane street.pressed brake with right foot to decelerate for stop light & car in front of me, car suddenly surged forward with engine revving.i depressed brake further with more strength and took left foot and place on top of right foot. Had the feeling the accelerator pedal was moving as well but wasn't touching it.car continued to jerk forward, engine revving, with brakes partially engaged for approx. 20 feet. Then engine shut off completely and brakes fully engaged stopping the car.was inches from car in front.restarted car and finished drive home.checked car mats but still in place on brackets. Had car towed to toyota dealership.they found no unintended acceleration but did find that both brake and accelerator pedals had been depressed.suggested i must have stepped on both accidentally.not a chance. Was well aware of foot/feet placement.service mgr showed me what to do "should this happen again."excuse me?! told to shift into neutral for brakes to engage or another gear to stall the engine and stop the car. 1 wk later, regional inspector spent day w/car and reported nothing wrong.did show both pedals depressed at same time long enough to trip sensor but nothing was wrong.dealer suggested i report to toyota.reported incident to toyota customer experience center.not happy.2 incidents, other reports online, and it's a 2012 that wasn't supposed to do this.feel lucky i didn't rear end someone, especially as the car didn't slow very much until it died.scared silly for next time. Do not want my rav.am being told car is perfectly safe but no one at dealership would sign statement saying i was safe and this wouldn't happen again.hmmm.want them to take car back!purchased new in oct. 2012 w/less than 10 miles on it.

The contact owns a 2012 toyota rav4. The contact stated that nhtsa campaign number: 14v054000 (electronic stability control, service brakes, hydraulic) exceeded a reasonable amount of time for repair. The dealer stated that the parts needed were not available. The manufacturer was not made aware of the delay. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact had not experienced the failure.updated 6/8/15the consumer stated the vehicle was finally repaired. Updated 06/17/15.

The contact owns a 2012 toyota rav4. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, there was a delay for the vehicle to stop when the brake pedal was depressed. The contact had to put a lot of pressure while depressing the brake pedal for the vehicle to stop. An independent mechanic was made aware of the failure. The mechanic had repaired the brake master cylinder, front and rear brake disc rotors, and caliper in 2019. The dealer was made aware of the failure and scheduled an upcoming appointment for diagnostic testing. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was opened. The failure mileage was 139,435.

Brakes failed to work. Would not stop.

I can not give the info. That you are asking me about the damage of my vehicle in the above question ,because it keeps deleting my answers. On this past 12/16/2013 at 3:15pm i was pulled over behind a chevy, trailblaizer waiting for a emergency vehicle to pass by,suddenly my new rav-4 decided that it wanted to go for a fast ride, wether i liked it,or not.i looked down at my feet to see what was the cause of the problem and i had my foot on the brake all the way to the floor. By the time i looked back-up,it was to late for me to pull-up onto the emergency brake,or put into (n).this was my third incedent with this happening, every body keeps saying that this happened on 12/19/2013,not so ! on 01/11/2013 i almost killed a girl pushing a baby carriage and holding hands with her little boy in a crosswalk at 12/30 pm.i reported this to toyota and they investigated it and said,"all 14 accidents where my fault ,because of the matts on my floor."i just had my insurance co. Investigate it the other day.i don't have all the results back yet! rockingham toyota and scion,nh. Sold me this car ,i gave them two trade-ins,a 2010 camaro ss,rs,and my 2002 toyota tundra which i brought to them that night for a recall on my truck,to replace the rotted-out frame, and rotted-out rear brakes.they said no to fixing my brakes, and i had the recall letter to show them.did not help! so they sold me this lemmon, and sent me a check in the mail for $23,000.i got ripped-off,they closed the dealership while i was signing papers, and they would not let me near my truck and camaro.he said "come back tomorrow to get your belongings out of them".i went back the next day ,and was told that i was to late, the autos are on a train write now, heading to wissconsin.help me please !

2012 toyota rav 4.consumer writes in regards to vehiclesudden acceleration.the consumer stated on six occasions, the vehicle accelerated, when the brake was applied.the brake pedal was about 2 1/2 inches away from the accelerator pedal.the consumer believed the pedals were designed too close together.

Takata recall when turning the vehicle left or right, there is noise coming from the steering column

I had just gotten on a 6 lane expressway with a 45 mph speed limit. Hands at ten and two - just watching the road going about 40 mph in the far left lane so people could turn on the road. I had been having a clunking sound when i would pull out of my driveway for awhile but didn't want to go back to the dealer because i had just gotten a 10,000 mile oil change and after removing a tire with a nail in it found they had to order the tire, which took 3 weeks to get (apparently run flat tires are still in japan,,) so, i back to my near death experience- i was driving slower than the speed limit down the road when i lost all steering in my vehicle and i was headed into oncoming traffic. I hit the tall cement median and i pulled as hard as i could back to the right. After i hit i had a little control again. With both drivers side tires striped flat i had enough steering to put my hazards on and get back on the correct side of the road and pull the thing into a side parking lot to be towed. I feel like the thing is trying the kill me! warranty has to cover this but i think i'm gonna have to trade it in. Too scared to drive the [xxx] thing.atlleast i have two witnesses that can verify my event incase toyota tries to screw me over. I drive a toyota rav4 v6 ltd, 2012 purchased on jan 2, 2013. Prior to that we had a toyota camry 1999 with more 200k miles on it. On july 24th, 2013, i was driving at a speed of 10 mph inside the apartment complex and was turning right to park. I was almost parked when all of a sudden the car surged and zoomed over parking stopper, breaking overhead storage bin, zoomed ahead and banged into the building stairs. I kept pumping the brake all through, but the car didnt stop until it hit on to the stairs of apartment. The wheels were still rolling but it couldn't go ahead because of the heavy stairs and finally after continuously stepping on the brake it stopped. My right foot was all along on the brake as it always is when i'm parking. Body of the car was severely damaged with glass pieces all over me. Luckily my 3 year old was safer at back in her car seat. The airbags did not deploy on impact. I'm having more than 10 years of driving experience and it was the first time that i was involved in an accident. Since i'm a woman everyone was quick to conclude that, i had stepped on the gas pedal instead of brake. But i know my foot was all along on the brake, until the car finally stopped. This has caused a lot of damage, although i had insurance to cover the car, the value is zilch now. The car was not totaled and repairs was worth more than 20k. Driving the car now, doesn't feel the same as the collision center did a crappy repair job.now the car makes sounds while driving, as though it will come apart. We are left with no options other than just to drive the same car because we can't afford another car. After notifying toyota and after numerous calls they collected the edr and sent us a report stating that nothing was wrong with the vehicle. It was our fault that we didn't realize toyota had issues related to unintended acceleration prior to buying the rav4.

I was pulling into a parking place at our church. When i turned into the parking place the car took off and it jumped an 8 inch curbing and ran into the parish center wall. It tried to climb the wall. I push the accelerator to turn into the parking space and the car took off! it was not driver error!

Closed sunroof exploded while driving on highway.

Purchase new off lot. Vehicle barely used. 2012 only has slightly over 26,000 original miles. Kept covered when not in use. Paint is just popping on in several locations right down to the primer layer. Started near back window, then wheel well area, roof spots. We have put touch up paint on the back window thinking we could slow the process but it keeps getting bigger. No one seems to have an answer other than there are a lot of complaints for the same issue. All willing to give estimates for me to pay for it. Obviously it is a problem that toyota should be paying for!!!!! this vehicle was to be my last one at my age. I need answers

The white paint is peeling off of the car in many locations including the roof, hood, bumpers, and doors.there is no rust present nor was the car damaged in any way.the paint is simply bubbling and peeling off. The car has been garaged the majority of its life.

Lack of tie points: this is an issue with our rav4, but it is an issue with about every vehicle manufactured recently. It is a requirement of drivers to ā€œsecure their loadā€¯ but when top carrying boats it is very difficult to find suitable tie points in the front and rear of the vehicle. Could vehicle manufacturers be required to provide tie points suitable for securing loads? it could be as simple as providing smooth- edged holes in the chassis under both bumpers.

Paint is peeling on multiple panels. This vehicle has never had body damage or been involved in an accident.

Rust under hood

Sudden onset intermittent hard shaking vibration and metal-like loud rattling coming from driver back wheel/axel region begins at 35-40mph (when driving straight on residential roads, especially when road is rough). Feels like something under that corner of the car is going to crack apart/cave in. Is this same rear suspension issue that the 2006-2011 rav4 was recalled for?

My rear suspension periodically thumps a few minutes after i start driving the vehicle and is most noticeable on a dirt roads. It sounds like a rock is hitting the underside of the car, but i know it is not a rock! it only does it once. It's like the suspension is binding and then releases after a certain distance down the road.

When making a left turn from a stand still the back end of the vehicle feels very loose and wobbly as if a wheel was about to come off.in addition the vehicle is producing a vibrating or thumping that appears to be coming from the back end of the vehicle.this seems to be a progressing issue.the vibration/thumping has been going on for a couple of years and our mechanic states that the bearing and wheel balance are good.

Takata recalli have rav4 2012 fwd base with 41000 miles, and have a regular maintenance.- when driving at low speed (30-40 mpg) in city, the driving is not comfortable because i feel all of the vibration in wheels. Also, small oscillation does not disappear and maintain in long time. - when driving in a highway, it is very dangerous because a little bumpy road makes my rav4 oscillated very very severely so that i should be very carefully in order to control my car for driving in straight direction, and not to being turned over. - when my car is in stationary, i can shake my car with my hand. I thought it was a characteristics of suv because i had driven a sedan before rav4. But, i asked to inspect my car in atoyota service center, and a mechanic said that the rear struts and suspensions are worn out, and should be replaced. In addition, he said that the front shock absorbers would show a malfunctioning in a near future. The mechanic shook my car with his hand, and my car was shaken according to his hand. The mechanic said that cars should not be shaken by hands. It is very disappointed with toyota auto. I should spend more than 2,000 dollars to fix the front and rear shock absorbers with after-market price. I heard that toyota recalled for rear suspension problem 2006~2011 rav4. But, i think this recall should be extended to 2012 rav4.

Not sure of date, but the outside housing of spare tire came off going thru car wash... This was an automatic wash no brushes was used.now it is possible that this could had happen on the road and i'm just wondering if this has happen to other toyota vehicles... Idid take it the fox toyota and they fixed the inner housing because the screw anchor was loose and had to be replaced.

The drivers side visor keeps falling down and blocking my view well driving. The visor seems to be defected or poorly made.

I have been driving for 40+ year & possible pedal misapplication 5 x's is a bunch of bull.

The check engine, trac off and 4wd lights will all come on together and stay on for a day or two and then go off again.this keeps happening

Four-wheel drive, traction stability, check engine light all went on and will not shut off. Driving in 4-wheel drive put strain on engine. Plus there are many complaints about this situation.$545 for service is cost for common to this car issue. See forum link: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.rav4world.com/forums/96-4-3-general/196945-4wd-stuck.html%3famp=1

Vehicle experienced sudden unintended acceleration when exiting the highway and making a turn. Rpm went up to 7,000 until the vehicle was turned off. The accelerator pedal was depressed fully several times while the car was suspended and turned off and started back on with the brake pedal fully depressed to ensure proper safety measures in case the vehicle jolts forward. No accident or injuries occurred during the incident as the vehicle was put to a stop safely before other parties would be involved. Local dealership doesn't want to take it in for proper inspection without a diagnostic payment.

Driver's side sun visor had to be replaced a couple years ago because it would not stay in an upright position and hung in a loose dropped position.the passenger side sun visor is now doing the same thing. This is a safety hazard as it can drop unexpectedly and block the drivers visual field.

Driver side sun visor would not stay up all the way, obstructing view. Car is not old enough or driven hard enough for such a common component to fail so quickly. It's not a cheap fix - dealer quoted me $174 though there are some youtube videos that show how to buy the part and fix it yourself. Having read about other rav4 owners with the same issue, it seems like a toyota quality control issue.

The door locks wont lock when you put the car in drive..they use to work but now i have to lock them with the button and i have a 21/2 year old granddaugter who sits in the back and am afraid when the car is going can open the car when it is going down the road if the doors are not locked. This is a hazard and defect.

This has happened about three times.when i am stopping the car with my foot on the brake the engine suddenly revs up and i have to really exert pressure on the brake to prevent the car from lurching ahead.after a few seconds of braking, the engine stops revving.

Sunroof glass cracked with a loud bang while driving on highway, at about 55 mph. Weather was clear and warm (not very hot). No other vehicles close by. No flying debris observed prior to loud bang. Entire pane was riddled with cracks. During subsequent trip into town, some of the glass pieces came loose and flew off, leaving a large hole surrounded by unstable glass.

Sun visor on driver's side will not stay up. Hangs midway down causing hazard if i lean forward

Tire pressure monitor system warning light icon have been showing after i got new set of tires, all tires got the proper air, 2 months after of the new tires installed, this icon showed again so, i brought my car for oil chance abed asked to check the air on the tires, the mechanic put the mandatory air on each tire, the icon still showing it, it did not go away so, i do not know what it is. I am very concern... Thanks [xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Driver's side sun visor falls down blocking view of road.

Passenger side mirror exploded spontaneously leaving behind only its assembly. Vehicle was driving at 15 mph thru a small town with no turns.

My 2012 toyota rav4 driver side visor started falling down about 6 months ago, later would fall down and wouldn't go back up and stay. Then is was very loose. I would move it to the side because i couldn't see to drive. This last time i tried to move it to the side it completely fell off. My passenger side is doing it as well and making it hard for the passengers to see and even myself because it's constantly blocking my view of that side. I'm very aggravated because i called customer care and they will not do anything about it. This is a very dangerous safety hazard. I'm very disappointed in toyota! my vehicle wasn't cheap but apparently the parts they put in them are. I am including the first picture of me at a 4way red light to show my view driving and at a red light, i can't see and have to bend down to do so. Also the light no longer works on the driver side mirror because of this defect. I also included pictures of the fabric bubbling off. My vehicle was garbage kept for 6 years and for the last year or so it's been outside. Also, my wipers pop and get stuck when trying to use them. Even if it's raining or just cleaning my windshield off. They will go and then it's like it can't and gets stuck but it literally will make a pop sound and bounce when trying to use them. It sounds ridiculous and everyone complains about them when riding with me. I'm so frustrated with it. They have done it the whole time i've owned it and i'm the only owner of it.

12/21/15 - my vehicle was stationary.i just finished refueling and started the car. I had my right foot on the brake, and switched from park to drive.my left foot stayed on the floor, to the left of the brake pedal.without removing my right foot from the brake, the engine revved and the car lurched forward. I pressed extremely hard on the brake to keep the car from moving forward, and could hear and feel the engine and brake fighting each other.this lasted approximately 3 seconds and the engine returned to idle.the brake and accelerator pedals are not that close, it would be impossible to press both at the same time.

11 oct 12 - i bought a 2012 rav4.24 oct 12 - i stopped at a stop sign.as i applied the brake the car accelerated.i pushed the brake hard and the car decelerated.a few minutes later i approached a stop sign at my house. When i applied the brake the car accelerated.before i could push harder on the brake the car ran the stop sign and then decelerated.i called toyota customer service.i explained what happened with the acceleration issues. I told the rep i looked at my foot position in between incidents and there was no way i could press the accelerator and brake pedals together.the rep told me there was no recalls on this year rav4.he said take the car to the nearest toyota dealer. I took the car to toyota and explained everything to them.the service man told me that the floor mat being caught up underneath the brake was the issue.he told me that the rep from toyota would look at it.5 nov 12 - toyota called to say the toyota rep couldn't duplicate the problem.6 nov 12 - i went to toyota to pick up my car.i left the dealership and stopped the car to wait for traffic.after sitting with my foot on the brake for about 4-5 seconds, the car began accelerating on its own.i firmly pushed hard on the brake and looked at my foot to assure myself i wasn't near the gas pedal.i verified the floor mat wasn't on the gas pedal.i placed the car in neutral as it was revving up and noticed the tachometer went between 6500 to 7000 rpm's (in the red).when traffic cleared for me to turn, i made a turn, the car lunged forward and the acceleration decelerated.i drove the car directly to toyota and explained what just happened.7 nov 12 i got a phone call from toyota customer service corporatetelling me that i could pick up the vehicle from the toyota dealership.they could not duplicate the problem and they said the car was safe to drive.

Abrupt speed changes in normal speed and cruise control, radio and clock flashing occasionally, low tire pressure constantly, damage in air conditioning.

I was coming to a stoplight andi put my foot in the brake pedal. The car slowed down, came to a stop but then with my foot on the brake pedal, the engine reved up to 3000 rpm. The brakes were barely able to keep the car stopped so i had to put the emergency brake on. I was in drive the whole time. Once the light changed, i took my foot off the brake pedal and onto to gas pedal and the rpm's dropped back to 1000. It hasn't happened since then. Took it to my mechanic and said they couldn't replicate the problem so they couldn't fix anything.

The contact owns a 2012 toyota rav4. The contact stated that upon shifting into drive, there was a rapid increase in the engine rpms and the vehicle began to surge forward. The contact applied excessive pressure to the brake pedal, but the engine continued to rev. Another individual opened the doors and turned off the ignition. The vehicle was then towed to an authorized dealer and they were unable to diagnose the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and offered no assistance. The failure mileage was 1,009.

The contact owned a 2012 toyota rav4. While driving at approximately 20 mph, the vehicle suddenly experienced unintended acceleration causing the driver to lose control and crash into a traffic light pole. During the crash, the vehicle shook and wobbled from side to side and could not be stopped when depressing the brake pedal. The driver sustained a fractured rib and upper torso contusions. A police report was filed. The vehicle was destroyed. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 16,500.

While stopped in a left turn lane at a major city intersection behind a line of about 6 stopped cars, the engine suddenly began to race at high speed.the car moved forward and hit the rear of the car in front before i could depress the brake hard.i did that, put the car into neutral, applied the emergency brake, and turned the engine off at the ignition key before checking on the condition of the folks in the car in front.there was no way that i could have mistaken which pedal was which, as i was already depressing the brake pedal to keep from moving.

Accelerating from a stop light, the car lost power. The electric motor stopped and the check ev system warning came on. There was no engine power, power steering or power brakes. The car was stopped in the middle of the street.

Vehicle was slowing down from original speed of 45mph approaching a traffic light. After applying the brake the vehicle's engine started to rev up and accelerate with foot on the brake. The harder the brake pedal depressed the higher the rpms and foot was not touching the gas pedal. After a few seconds and brake pressed as hard as possible the engine quit running and the car was totally shut off after jolting forward. After getting car restarted it was running rough at 45 mph and short distance from home. This was a friday night. Called toyota dealer next morning and made appointment for them to check it out on tuesday june 4. Had to use the rav on sunday june 2 to pick up a part at the hardware. Ran fine for the 4 miles or so to the hardware.upon starting the car, after leaving the hardware, it revved up to a very high rpm then dropped back to normal. Drive back home was ok. On the way to the toyota dealer on june 4 i could watch rpms fluctuatein an abnormal manner after hitting the brake for a stop at traffic light. While at the dealer i filed a case with toyota. I sat there for about 4 hours before they told me they did not find anything. I said i was not going to take the vehicle home if they had not tried anything to fix the problem. They put a call in for the local toyota rep and they are waiting for a response.

I was coming to a stoplight and press the brakes the car came to stop then the engine revved up very fast. My foot was on the brakes but the engine was revving very fast that i had to use the parking brake to stop the vehicle from moving forward. I put the car in park then the engine stop revving.

My rav4 accelerates excessively out of the blue, in a dangerous manner far exceeding any need to maintain the set speed.slamming on the brakes is the only way to stop itis happening more frequently. In a day and a half of highway driving it happened three separate and random occurrences yesterday, sep 4th and today sep 5th, 2019. For example i was driving on i-44 eastbound at cruise control of 70 mph. And as i was going along it had accelerated to 75 before i recognized what was happened and slammed aggressively on the brake pedal or it would have surpassed 85 mph easily.it put me in danger of having an serious accident with a semitrailer in july.i sought answers from a mechanic today.he said it sounded similar to what has happened to other toyota models.because of this similarity, i am reporting my experiences to the nhtsa now.yours truly, [xxx].information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

On three occasions during 2013, the car accelerated and jumped forward as the brake was being applied to stop the car. On september 5, 2013 the acceleration and movement forward was more pronounced and was accompanied by a noticeable sound of the engine. This occurred as the brake was being slowly applied during an approach to an intersection. There was no movement or involvement of the floor mat on the driver?s side and no possibility that the driver's foot could have hit the accelerator at the same time as his foot was placed on the brake. We requested that the car be examined by the toyota dealer in order to determine the nature of the defect and the corrective action needed. The dealer reported that it could not identify any problem.

I was in a parking area looking for a parking spot. I had just driven up a slight incline and crested the top when i spotted an open space on the left. I braked slightly to turn into the spot, lifted my foot off the brake but kept it covered and made the left turn intending to coast into the spot. In the middle of the turn the vehicle inexplicably accelerated at which point i slammed my foot on the brake ending up cross ways in the parking spot and just short of a parking sign in front on the curb. The engine immediately returned to idle speed. The throttle pedal, which is top mounted, was examined and found to be clear and free. No idea what might be the cause, most likely electronically related. Frightening situation.

The latest incident was the 8th time this has occurred since purchased new in sept. 2012. After highway driving approached a traffic light and when brake applied car revved up and lurched forward. Since nothing stops this except turning off ignition this was done again and car restarted and no further incident. Contacted dealership and after having car there for 2 days was told no replication could be made. I contacted the toyota office in california and after more delays have not been given a rental. Car is still at dealership and the service manager said he is doing nothing until he hears from california that may approve super techto look at car. Very dissatisfied with toyota dangerous situation and they are in deny mode until someone is seriously hurt or killed. Will never buy another toyota after this poor run around service on both coasts.

The contact owns a 2012 toyota rav4. While driving at a low speed and depressing the brake pedal to stop, the vehicle accelerated without warning. The vehicle was taken to central maine toyota (15 airport rd, waterville, me 04901, phone number: (207) 872-5444) where the technician diagnosed that the failure was due to driver error. The failure recurred three times. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact back to the dealer. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 66,500.

The contact owns a 2012 toyota rav4. The contact was driving approximately 5 mph and approaching a stop signal when there was an abnormal increase in acceleration. The engine rpms increased rapidly. The contact shifted into neutral and the engine was turned off. Once the vehicle was restarted, it resumed as normal. The failure recurred eight times. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for diagnosis and they were unable to detect a failure code. The manufacturer was notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 190. The vin was unavailable.

The contact owns a 2012 toyota rav4. The contact stated that while driving approximately 10 mph, the contact attempted to decelerate and the vehicle erroneously accelerated. The contact also stated that the rpms increased greatly. The brakes failed to respond to deceleration attempts and the vehicle crashed into the proceeding vehicle. There were no injuries. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and stated that an investigator will inspect the vehicle. The approximate failure mileage was 7,000.

I was pulling into a parking place at our church. When i turned into the parking place the car took off and it jumped an 8 inch curbing and ran into the parish center wall. It tried to climb the wall. I push the accelerator to turn into the parking space and the car took off! it was not driver error!

I pulled into a left turn lane to make a turn. As i was waiting for oncoming traffic to clear the car suddenly surged forward. I slammed on the brakes. That stopped the car. Fortunately there wasn't a car in front of me, otherwise i would have had an accident. I was riding with my cousin and we were traveling about 25 miles an hour on a busy street. The car surged, my cousin asked if i had stepped on the gas, i hadn't. I immediately took the car to the toyota dealership. I told the tech what had happened, he said that was impossible. Took the car for a short drive and said there was nothing wrong with the car. It continues to happen periodically. I have also noticed this week that the transmission seems to lug down when it shifts. I am concerned about the overall performance of this car, not to mention the defect in the paralyzed white paint. One trip through the car wash with normal dirt and the top layer of paint came off in one area. The dealership is to call me when the rep comes in to look at the paint that was weeks ago and no one has called.

2012 toyota rav4 rear cargo door window shattered, and glass fell inside vehicle and outside vehicle.this occured while car was parked, and the drivers door was being closed.vehicle had been in garage, no visible damage to rear window had been noted.i feel it is a defect in the glass, as several others have been reported; however toyota feels differently, as i can't prove there was a defect in the glass, since the glass is in a million pieces inside my vehicle and on the garage floor.i am fairly sure a space alien came down and hit the back glass sharply, exactly at the moment i was closing the drivers door...but i can't prove that either.

On a sunny hot day vehicle was parked for approx 20 outside.entered the vehicle once no mishap. Upon second entry "3 minutes apart" when door was closed rear window just fell apart.i found glass on the ground outside of the vehicle and the remaining glass in the vehicle.what appears to have happen is the rear window exploded.not aware of any prior damage to the window.toyota was given two attempts to review the grievance on each occasion claiming owner fault or responsibility.

Rav4s r dangerous vehicles and something has to be recalled or people r going to die. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
