Our names are [xxx]residing at [xxx] in [xxx] .as of july 17 we started encountering very dangerous and odd intermittent behavior on our 2017 rav 4 hybrid [xxx] which was purchased from toyota of lake city in december of 2016.currently, we believe the car is unsafe to drive due to this unrepaired serious safety defect and we are not driving it. In july my wife first experienced this behavior where the car would drive forward while in reverse. She later experienced it again with our friend lise kauffman in mid-august (8-10thish) while on orcas island.on tuesday the 22nd - we got in touch with gabe in service and then later karen. We were told this was very odd shouldn't be happening and they would need to see it happen. We waited until the truck could be seen by a toyota rep - who visits once a month - on 8/31 and were told they couldn't make it happen.saturday 9/9 it happened again as jenn was parallel parking (moving vehicle) on yessler way which almost made her hit a car. Monday 9/11 it happened with van driving in our driveway (stationary) and we filmed it.tuesday 9/12 spoke to caren - still spoke of how odd this was and they could not duplicate it. I told her about video and concern about our safety - bigger issue - was told she would continue to discuss and they were on our side. Sent her video via email to [xxx].today, wednesday 9/13 i spoke to [xxx] at 2:30 and she asked me more questions about our driveway (which i've made clear - multiple times - and once again asked if we could bring the car in and duplicate the situation.we have been very clear in our communication that this is an intermittent issue and thus we can't.we do have it on film and can no longer drive the car with the fear of something greater happening to endanger us, others or property. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

I pulled into my parking spot in my condominium complex, with my foot on the brake pedal (at zero mph).as i was trying to put it into park, the vehicle suddenly lurched forward and jumped into the hilly woods.i pressed harder on the brake pedal but it would not stop or slow down and i wasn't able to control the steering.the car continued going through the hill full of large trees.finally the vehicle only stopped when it crashed into a tree.i had a hard time opening the door to get out of the car because it was wedged against said tree.if the car didn't crash into the tree, it would have continued down the embankment to crash into 5 cars below and the results would've been more disastrous. The following should be noted:1)air bags did not deploy2)vehicle is brand new ' i purchased it on 9/1/17 from dealership with about 17 miles on it3)unable to ascertain how fast the vehicle was traveling in the woods (huge trees); my aim was to stop the vehicle completely to avoid a potential disaster

I purchased a 2017 rav4 from big2toyota in chandler az on the 23rd of march 2017.there were several communications with sales person phil harmon concerning the purchase.i had done some research on this vehicle and saw a couple of complaints about movement of the hood when driving, some even described and floppy hood. I asked, by email, mr. Harmon if he knew anything of this problem. He replied that he had never heard of it. I live in the tucson area, about 100 miles from where i purchased my new car. While driving my new car home i noticed that the hood moved around quite a bit when driving the 75mph speed limit on the way home. The following day i also noticed that the hood moved around while driving over bumpy roads at 30 mph. I called my local toyota dealer, precision toyota in tucson and made an appointment to get this taken care of.the first appointment was one week later.i waited about 5 hours for the car and was told that there is nothing that can be done. They drove two brand new rav4s and they also had hood movement.i called toyota customer care where they insisted that i go back to precision toyota and drive two brand new rav4s.i did and indeed they had the same problem.toyota says this is normal, the selling dealership said they never heard of it so not sure which it is? perhaps a disclosure is in need if this is in fact a trait of the vehicle. For me the bottom line is the hood should fit firmly and not move and jump around when the car is in motion.i don't find any of this acceptable for a brand new car or any car! i spoke with melanie at toyota care800-331-4331 case # 1704033640. Mark and conor at precision toyota service. All people involved had nothing more to offer me.i asked "so i am stuck with this problem?" i got no reply.i am frustrated and don't know where to turn, i really don't want to get into a legal battle but may be no other choice

Jan 29, 4:45pm, everett wa. Shortly after merging onto southbound i-5 from 526 there was a single loud exploding noise followed by the sound of glass pieces. The shade guard was closed. While driving in radar cruise mode, the vehicle will not stop fully if the car in front drops below 25 mph. It will beep ans then allow the vehicle to rearend the car in front.

While driving on a city street i heard a large noise that sounded like a gun shot. I pulled over to look at the car to see if it had been shot. I saw nothing out of the ordinary. It was approximately 0-15 degrees f at the time. Later while looking out my second story window i noticed a spot that appeared to be thawed out on the roof of my car. Upon further inspection i noticed the sunroof had been shattered. There was a large hole in the center of the sunroof. It was a good thing that my interior sunroof shade was closed at the time the sunroof exploded otherwise i may have lost control of the vehicle and crashed. The car is brand new and i have had it for less than 6 months.

The wipers do not work in cold weather, the wipers are stuck even with a clean windshield

Re.: premature failure of 2017 toyota rav-4 se hybrid 4-wd aluminum wheel.on sunday, october 7th, 2018, while driving eastbound on highway 70 at around 10:25 a.m., the left rear wheel failed unexpectedly on my wife's 2018 toyota rav-4 se hybrid. I was traveling with my wife, my 13-year old daughter, and my 9-year old son when we were startled by a loud boom, which sounded like a gun shot. At first, i thought i had ran over something, but quickly ruled that out because within seconds i could feel the vehicle's rear end making loud noises and vibrated strongly. I knew then that i had a flat tire. We were going about 65mph and traveling east on the far left hand of a 4-lane highway.when i arrived at the buddhist temple, i took the damaged tire out to inspect it. I was trying to see what had caused the tire to go flat. But as i was inspecting the tire i then noticed the fractured area in the middle of the aluminum wheel. As you can see from my pictures, the inner and outer aluminum wheel beads has no sign of damage. In addition, i could not detect any puncture hole in and around the rubber tire that could have resulted in the metal fractures.i want to alert you to the potential aluminum wheel defect that may exist in my other three factory supplied wheels, as well as other rav-4 that have the same se wheels manufactured in japan. I hope that nhtsa will review the evidence i have provided and begin a formal investigation into this dangerous wheel defect.i will keep the damaged wheel and will not allow toyota or bommarito to take possession of my damaged aluminum wheel until i have received further instruction from your office. (see attached pdf for additional vehicle info)
