My vehicle was rear-ended and shoved into a third vehicle. We were on an interstate highway with wet pavement, and traffic was slowing. We were traveling straight. The airbags did not deploy, and my wife, belted in the front passenger seat, was twisted sideways by the impact. She experienced a pelvic fracture and aggravation of her arthritic left hip joint. We believe that airbag deployment would have prevented these injuries. I have attached three event data files and vehicle control history files. (i can't see if all three are attached.)
Takata recall possibly. Wet pavement, traffic slowed on interstate to about 45 mph, tailgating small pickup hit my rear crumple zone, shoved me into a small suv that crushed my front crumple zone. Airbags did not deploy. Neither my wife (front seat passenger) nor i felt any discomfort, but a few days later she complained about pain in her waist area. She was later determined to have a fractured pelvis and a jostled left hip joint.
The contact owns a 2017 toyota prius. While the brake pedal was depressed, the rear wheels seized. As a result, the contact lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a ditch. The air bags failed to deploy. A police report was filed. There were no injuries. The vehicle was towed to a body shop and the body damages were repaired so that the vehicle could be driven. The vehicle was taken to kalispell toyota (2845 u.s. 93 s, kalispell, mt 59901) for diagnostic testing, but the cause of the failure was undetermined. The manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 7,000.
We purchased a 2017 toyota prius on january 29th 2017 and on march 22nd 2017 the car caught on fire out of no where. The car was parked and off when smoke began to come out from the around the shift changer and the touch screen area. After a few seconds the car was completely on fire.
When driving on the highway during rain the adaptive cruise control spontaneously stops and lashes on the dash display that it is no longer set, the car decelerates rapidly, leaving the driver scrambling to determine what has happened. While driving on i-75 there seems to be a spark caused fuel to leak and burn back tire and the tire rolled off the freeway putting all the five passengers into a hazardous situation on the i-75 freeway. We smelled smell of tire and gas leak. Fortunately, we were able to pull off the freeway. It was reported to toyota and their dealers multiple times. No one even bothered or concerned about the issue or safety of passengers.
Car started by itself when it was parked in a driveway in hot weather in the sun. My key fob does not have a remote starting mechanism - only door unlock and lock capability.
The vehicle started normally but when i reached about two blocks from my house, the prius started to act as if the electric motors were not engaging. The engine did not engage either and the gas pedal was unresponsive.the first time this occurred, i was stuck in the middle of a 4-way intersection until i shut down the vehicle and restarted it.after i restarted the prius, it continued behaving erratically. It sounded and felt like the gas motor had engaged but the electric motor had not.it also felt like the transmission was slipping/not engaging and i had to rev the motor to get the transmission to engage (which it did with a kick like it was being put into gear).this has happened 3 times so far.i had a passenger in the vehicle on the last incident.i have taken the vehicle intothe dealership 3 times, but they are unable to find any issues with the vehicle.i reached out to toyota to see if they could address the issue, but they said that their field tech was unable to find any problem.i am worried that this car will fail in traffic and cause an accident.the incident dates are june 20, july 2 and july 27, 2018.the only indication that something was abnormal on july the 27th. Was a lower mpg reading on my display.other than that, there was no warning or error codes displayed.
Even though this vehicle has nothing to do with this case, i consider that it is very relevant that i express my concerns with this vehicle due to the fact that i traded in my 2015 toyota prius for a vehicle that provided an unsafe driving experience to my family which was the 2017 toyota prius with vin number [xxx] after taking it to three different toyota dealerships to be evaluated by two different toyota field inspectors from toyota headquarters, toyota motor vehicles made the choice not to listen to our concerns and rejected to take responsibility providing me a safety hazard product in order to avoid lemon law and/or make me aware of the high levels of emf that the vehicle had. On april 18 2019, we never were told by the second field inspector sent by toyota headquarters the results of his findings.big two toyota took advantage of the situation and convinced us to trade in this vehicle for a new 2019 toyota sienna.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
1) the tablet information screen is so large and the instructions so complicated that you have to take your eyes off the road for a long time just to regulate hvac and radio2) the car goes completely dead randomly after driving it. Must be towed.
The contact owns a 2017 toyota prius. While the vehicle was parked in the driveway, the engine automatically started. Koons arlington toyota (4045 lee hwy, arlington, va 22207, (703) 522-6000) was contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 5,000.
The contact owns a 2017 toyota prius. The contact stated that the vehicle started on its own without warning. The contact stated that he had an auto power start fob, but it was not around the key fob. In addition, a headlight warning sensor illuminated that advised the contact to take the vehicle to the dealer. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer (brunswick auto mart, 3031 center rd, brunswick, oh, 44212). The dealer replaced the passenger side headlight system and sensor. The headlight was repaired. The contact mentioned the vehicle engaging independently to the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and they stated that they would document the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 2,000. ...updated 09/21/17updated 9/22/2017 updated 09/25/2017 ***updated 09/26/17*lj

The contact owns a 2017 toyota prius. While driving 65 mph, the vehicle lost power. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to longo toyota (3534 n peck rd, el monte, ca 91731, (855) 415-6497), but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and did not assist. The failure mileage was 25,825. The vin was not available.
The involved vehicles were designed to enter a failsafe driving mode in response to certain hybrid system faults. Toyota has found that in rare situations, the vehicle may not enter a failsafe driving mode as intended. If this occurs, the vehicle could lose power and stall. While power steering and braking would remain operational, a vehicle stall while driving at higher speeds could increase the risk of a crash.
While i am slowing to a stop, a warning light comes on indicating that i am pressing the brake and the accelerator at the same time.this is not possible.the car does try to move forward but pressure on the brake overcomes that issue. This has happened multiple times (not every time) but fortunately no accidents have occurred. This has also never happened when i am driving at highway speed and need to brake.
The contact owns a 2017 toyota prius. The contact received a recall notification for nhtsa campaign number: 18v579000 (engine). The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. Toyota certified at capital plaza (6100 annapolis rd, landover, md 20784, (301) 772-6900) was contacted and confirmed that the part was not available. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and was not able to confirm when the part would become available. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.

This is for 2017 toyota prius prime, but there is no option. While taking my kid to enroll in swimming class, while taking turn into the facility the brakes stopped working and the car wouldn't stop, some how i drove into parking lot (i am not sure how i did it in that tense situation) none of the buttons were working, the car was beeping showing every thing failed and by gods grace the hand brake worked and finally the car stopped. Now i am scared as this happened with my kid in the car. I need help and i don't want to drive this car again and i towed it to the toyota dealer. After exiting i calmed down a little bit called my husband and he recorded the errors and the sounds. I thought the car was going to blow up.
Under certain daytime conditions the dashboard displaybecomes temporarily unreadable due to pupillary delay adjusting to unilluminated dashboard display of speedometer.the dashboard, by design, is not illuminated during daylight. Because of this, under bright sunny conditions, when the driver glances at the speedometer display, his eyes cannot immediately adjust to read the vehicle without taking his eyes off the road ahead to know his speed.

In moderate to heavy rain with the toyota dynamic cruise control engaged on the highway between 55 and 70 mph, the prius has dangerously accelerated itself towards a car immediately in front of my car and would have created a front-to-rear collision if i was not extremely vigilant and manually braked and canceled the adaptive cruise system within 10-20 feet of the car in front of me.the system seems to operate blindly in moderate to heavy rain and will accelerate to user-set speed even when a car is traveling slower immediately in front of my vehicle. I strongly suspect the pre-collision braking is failing at the same time as the dynamic cruise (in rain) since it relies on the same components.the prius prime needs to be reprogrammed to not allow dynamic cruise engagement in moderate to heavy rain.this is a very dangerous situation because driver visibility is already impaired under these conditions.if this did not occur multiple times, i would not have believed it was actually happening.the prius manual says that rain can cause the system to not behave as intended; however, in that case it needs to be automatically disabled so it does not create a very false sense of security. This is going to cost lives if it's not reprogrammed.i would be surprised if this was the only toyota that exhibits this dangerous behavior.i strongly believe that lives can be saved with a simple reprogram of the system to not allow operation under conditions that can create unintended acceleration into a slower moving vehicle.toyota should save themselves millions in potential liability and take this suggestion seriously.
Unable to fill gas tank. Vapor-containment valve engages during refuelling, causing fuel to spill to ground and unable to fill more that one-half gallon of fuel.see also: https://priuschat.com/threads/interesting-fuel-issue-2016-three-touring-overflowing.173660/ (search for "overflow" - you will see that this is a common problem)

On i-75 @70 miles/hr, with around 800 mileage new prius, toyo tire of the rear tire popped out and rolled on the i-75 without any warning lights but with some gas smell, putting all the occupants to high risk of crash on the busiest freeway, and the agony of the incident.i towed my prius to valdosta toyota, even though toyota care should cover roadside assistance, they charged me for towing and putting new tire. There was a problem with the prius gas system or toyo tire of prius.after around 100 miles i tried to put in gas, prius tank didn't take gas, went to clear water toyota and got it repaired, despite explaining toyota care and less than 1k mileage, they charged me for repair.contacted toyota care and my local dealer, they said valdosta and clear water toyota should not have charged.the dealers say toyota care need to reimburse the repairs at least, as they can't compensate the agony of losing a tire in the middle of the freeway. Toyota care doesn't even bother to register a complaint and investigate the issue and determine prius gas system or toyo tire is under fault. Even after going through 3 toyota dealers and contacting toyota many times, there is no solution, soa) who investigates the issue?b) how to ensure toyotacare follows their plan?c) how to bring responsibility to toyota or toyo, their supplier, should be under warranty as part of the car warranty?d) how to ensure the kinds of horrifying incidents do not happen to any other family in future?
The vehicle was running and stopped at a stop light. When accelerating to proceed from the stop light the vehicle would barely accelerate no matter how far we pressed the gas pedal down. The engine was not revving faster it just appeared to stay in ev mode with very little acceleration. Finally after about 5-10 seconds the car starts accelerating. We are very concerned that if this occurs at a turn onto a busy road we could be in a position where we are stuck in the middle of oncoming cross traffic. This is very intermittent, maybe once or twice per summer (usually in the hotter times of the year). We've had the car at the dealership and both times they have said they found no problem. Searching on the internet this sounds like tsb-0241-17, which i have shared with the dealer but both times they have indicated they see no sign off a problem.

I was going to make a right turn and the car would not accelerate right away even though it was in "d"my husband said he experienced the same thing twice while driving this car.
The contact owns a 2017 toyota prius. While the vehicle was parked, it rolled without warning. The contact was able to catch up with the vehicle before it struck a police vehicle. The officer gave the contact a warning. In addition, the vehicle accelerated on its own intermittently. The local dealer (elmore toyota, 15300 beach blvd, westminister, ca, 92683) informed the contact that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 16v741000 (service brakes), and recommended he schedule an appointment for diagnostic testing. The vehicle was not diagnosed due to the diagnostic fee. The manufacturer was contacted and provided case number: 1709193209. The manufacturer confirmed that the vehicle was not included in the recall, and that there would be a diagnostic charge. The failure mileage was approximately 15,000.
My new tacoma has a whine/howl coming from the rear differential. Per my dealer, they have started a tas case with toyota corp and were advised that the condition described is known, and under investigation.tas says there are no recommended repairs at this time. The problem is occurring between 30-65 mph when decelerating and feathering the throttle, but is now becoming more pronounce with time and more mileage. I'm concerned that the issue could potentially become a safety issue.this issue is occurring with 2016-17 tacoma's.many differentials have been replaced by dealers; even the replacement differentials are experiencing the same issue.

My 2 year check up w/14,932 miles i was advised my front rotors need to be replaced due to poor pad contact and rear rotors are grooved heavily and need to be replaced as well.i was shocked. I did not have replaced .mechanic said will not pass inspection.is there a recall? what is going on w/toyota prius brakes.am afraid to drive car and can't afford to replace rotors every 15,000 miles.
The contact owns a 2017 toyota prius. The contact stated that while his daughter was driving at approximately 19 mph and approaching a traffic light, the brake pedal was depressed and the traction control warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle failed to stop and the vehicle crashed into the vehicle in front. A police report was not filed. No injuries were reported. The vehicle was towed to the millenium toyota, 257 n franklin st, hempstead, ny 11550, but was not diagnosed. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and an inspector was sent out to retrieve information from the vehicle data recorder. The conclusion was driver error. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 13,000.
I want to check if there is a issue with the pre collision and the braking assistance features. My prius prime roll forward during a idled stop and i did not receive warning and the car did not assist stop feature did not engage.
I had an sua (sudden unintended acceleration). I drove up an incline into the "driveway" of the holiday in in downtown san diego, pulled up into a small circular area/driveway where you can register for your room or pick up or drop off people.my foot was on the brake, i was stopping the car to pick up my daughter and her boyfriend. And the car took off on it's own. I tried desperately to use the brakes, but they wouldn't work, so i kept driving around the circular driveway to keep control of the car while i kept trying to stop the car to no avail.the car kept accelerating and screeching around the driveway and then i finally lost control and the car hit a wall to my right, then moved a bit forward and bumped into a curb on the left and finally stopped.my other daughter was in the passenger seat.we were both terrified!i contacted toyota and from the time of the accident (10/28/19) to the time i was able to talk with a person in their claims dept or rather receive an email response, it was 64 days later (10/31/19). And that is only because i called them.i talked to several case managers on different days who seemed unhelpful until finally one of them got in touch with the claims department and told me they would call me. Toyota will not take any responsibility for this and i am really upset that now i will have an accident on my record and my insurance will increase significantly for something that isn't even my fault! i am an excellent driver and have never had an accident that was my fault.i was alert and coherent as was obvious to all of the people i spoke to directly after the accident. My daughter, in the passenger seat, witnessed all of my attempts to use the brakes to stop the car.

I have recently installed hand controls on my car and underwent proper training.fsince the hand controls work the opposite of a zero turn lawnmower i have to fight the fact that they work in reverse. I have tried to find an app for my computer with a joystick that would simulate driving and how to respond to a child running in front of my car. This is something obviously i can't practice on the road and my instinct might be the opposite of what it should be. I would like such a game to ensure that my response always is immediatedo you have suggestions?
Whirling sound emanating from front area... Got progressively worse.finally took to dealership, even though no warning lights, and they indicated brake actuator bad, to the tune of $3400.so i gave my other prius (06) to my daughter to drive and same noise, so now have two fairly young (for a toyota) paperweights, since service manager said unsafe to drive.complained to corporate and they said extended warranty out of time.this in unacceptable for this age of car.

Since purchasing the vehicle in october, 2017, i have had intermittent occurrences where the brakes feel like they slip when coming to a stop.it has happened in all weather conditions, (but mostly when wet), and at all speeds.i can go weeks without an occurrence, and then it can happen several times in a week.it seems to be completely random.i have been to two dealerships, and finally was able to drive with a tech who felt the "slippage".they kept the car for a few days and told me they talked to corporate and that a bump in the road triggers an abs sensor to fire, causing the abs to kick in.they also told me tire pressure might affect it.none of this sits right with me because it continues to happen.i have experienced driving a car when abs kicks in, and this is not the sensation i am getting in the prius."slipping" is the best adjective i have to explain what it feels like, and when it happens it is terrifying.the last time i took the car in to have them look at the brakes again, i was told that since corporate had been contacted previously, they would have to go back to them.they didn't keep the car, and told me they would call me back when the corporate rep would be there so he could drive with me.that was a few weeks ago, and they haven't called back, or returned my call.at this point, i feel like toyota is hiding something from me and i have lost all trust in the brand.i feel like i am driving an unsafe car and toyota is ignoring everything i am saying to them.
The contact owned a 2017 toyota prius. While the contact was reversing the vehicle into a parking lot, it accelerated without warning. The contact attempted to depress the brake pedal, but it failed to engage and caused the vehicle to crash into a tree.all the air bags deployed. The contact did not engage the emergency brake. The contact and passenger sustained minor injuries and received medical attention. A police report was not filed. The contact's insurance company towed the vehicle to a lot and deemed it a total loss. The dealer and manufacturer were not contacted. The cause of the failures was not determined. The failure mileage was approximately 13,850.*ln
Please note: that i have owned a previous generation prius - a 2011 - and i am more than aware that regenerative braking works entirely differently than a conventional braking system. So in no way am i referring to the "usual noises" that come from regenerative braking. Please see attached document for explanation of life and safety issue.
The contact owns a 2017 toyota prius. While driving approximately 65 mph, the brake pedal was depressed and the vehicle spun out of control. The brake warning indicator illuminated. The failure recurred twice. The vehicle was taken to toyota of poway (13631 poway rd, poway, ca 92064), but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified and did not assist. The approximate failure mileage was 7,000.

Car was on 2 lane blacktop in 40 mph zone driving apx 35 mph, a female, responsible owner/driver age 79 was driving when suddenly, without any warning, comes to near halt in road and pulls/hard to right hand side of shoulder off the road. Driver had no control over direction or speed before finally able to stop car on top of ditch.driver was able to get car to stall/stop engine before reaching ditch and possibly a turnover. Driver had never been so fearful in her life, had she been unable to stop car it would have driven her over.reported situation to local toyota dealership and they stated they could not;t find anything wrong with car sending driver back out on road with car, this is very serious situation. Thankful she was on small country ioad and not on busy hwy or this car would have "pulled/lead" her into other traffic, or worse, a sidewalkfull of people and or children. She had no control of car for what seemed like a full minute or more
The covering on the steering wheel at the hand locations has excessive wear and the plastic is rough on skin. The manufacture will not warranty the steering wheel cover because of being out of warranty i do not feel that a steering wheel cover should wear off in less than two years regardless of mileage which is currently at 139000 miles.
The contact owns a 2017 toyota prius. While traveling approximately 20 mph and attempting to turn, the steering ability became very difficult without warning. The vehicle was taken to dmark toyota (15933 n idahocenter blvd, nampa, id 83687) where it was determined that a sensor on the intermediate steering shaft needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 30,000.

The failure mileage was 2,300. The vin was not available.
Toyota prius prime 2017 lane departure warning with steering assist. This steering assist function does not work as it does in any other toyota model. I have spoken with toyota engineering and met with a toyota technical representative and they admit that the steering assist function does not work as it does in any other toyota model. As you will see from my attached document this function really doesn't work at all. I am not sure if this is a regulated safety feature or not but it was suggested by a toyota employee that i make the nhtsa aware of this failure as it could be a safety concern that should be looked at. I have driven at least 5 prius prime advanced and all have this problem in that the steering assist function does not work in any of them even though it is advertised and sold to the consumer as a integral part of the toyota safety suite that is on all toyota vehicles. This steering assist function does work on all of the other toyota models as advertised and as a consumer would expect. Please review my attached document that describes the problem and my attempts to get toyota to correct this problem. The stock answer i have received from most toyota representatives is that the steering assist "works as it is engineered to do" my stock answer to this is why does it function differently than every other vehicle equipped with the toyota safety suite. I have never received a coherent reply to that question.
Vehicle's steering wheel began peeling at (12 o' clock location). The car has been parked on the street and garaged (normal exposure to sun).first, it began to bubble and then it peeled until now reaching a3 inches wide.
We were stopped at a traffic signal going north.when the light turned green, the car in front of us started to go and all of the sudden, our car went into rapid acceleration.we could not stop the car.it crashed into the car in front of us. We tried jamming on the breaks and turning off the ignition, but could not get control.because we were heading uphill, the car finally came to a stop. We were on a city street at a stop signal.
Windshield cracks from impact with small rocks. In the past week, my windshield was impacted twice by small rocks. Both times the windshield was damaged. Both times i was driving approximately 50 miles per hour on a highway. The windhield is the problem. I realize a rock might damage a windshield but the glass in my prius is much more susceptible to damage than is acceptable.luckily i got both cracks repaired before the damage could spread and cause safety issues. (i bought my prius three months ago; it has 5,000 miles.)
We purchased a 2017 toyota prius on january 29th 2017 and on march 22nd 2017 the car caught on fire out of no where. The car was parked and off when smoke began to come out from the around the shift changer and the touch screen area. After a few seconds the car was completely on fire.

Car started by itself when it was parked in a driveway in hot weather in the sun. My key fob does not have a remote starting mechanism - only door unlock and lock capability.
The rubber on the handle to open my hatchback has melted. In the winter, i can no longer open the hatch door, and in the summer, it is difficult to open.
For the second time (first in 2019) i was seconds and maybe two feet from stopping the car to park when, with my foot on the brake, the car suddenly and without warning lunged forward at what seemed like full throttle. The first "crash" was in my driveway.the force was shocking and took off the front of the car. I insisted toyota investigate and they ultimately denied any liability. After the car was allegedly repaired, i started noticing another phenomenon: every time i would slow down to brake--approaching an intersection or stop sign, etc.--the car would briefly lunge forward before the brakes engaged to stop the car. I reported this to the dealer 2-3 times and each time i was assured that this was "normal" for a hybrid transitioning from gas to electric at a lower speed. Two weeks ago, with a friend in the car, i was pulling into a parking space, foot on the brake and about to stop, when the same thing occurred: without warning, the car lunged forward, at what seemed like full throttle, and crashed into a low concrete wall. Had it been seconds later, we would have had our seatbelts off and gone into the windshield. There were injuries. Fyi, i have a pretty much perfect driving record and log thousands of miles each year. I had zero problems with the prius i owned prior to this one.i will never drive this car again.
I want to check if there is a issue with the pre collision and the braking assistance features. My prius prime roll forward during a idled stop and i did not receive warning and the car did not assist stop feature did not engage.
When it rains the collision detection system gives off false warnings. The intelligence clearance sonar (ics) system gives an error and is unreliable. This is a safety issue and has been reported by multiple prius owner with the ics system: https://priuschat.com/threads/clean-parking-assist-sensor-and-intelligent-clearance-sonar-issue.182931/
I pulled up to the stop sign, then proceeded to go and i had no power. I sat there for 10-15 seconds before the accelerator kicked in. It shook me up. I proceeded on and then it again happened. I was sitting at a red light at a busy intersection and when the light green i had no acceleration power at all. People were honking and yelling at me. It was very scary. After what seemed to be an eternity, the accelerator kicked in and i was able to proceed. I had it towed to toyota dealer, they said they couldn't find anything wrong. Please please please help.

She had no control of car for what seemed like a full minute or more
In moderate to heavy rain with the toyota dynamic cruise control engaged on the highway between 55 and 70 mph, the prius has dangerously accelerated itself towards a car immediately in front of my car and would have created a front-to-rear collision if i was not extremely vigilant and manually braked and canceled the adaptive cruise system within 10-20 feet of the car in front of me.the system seems to operate blindly in moderate to heavy rain and will accelerate to user-set speed even when a car is traveling slower immediately in front of my vehicle.
While driving on interstate highway in heavy traffic using cruise control my car suddenly accelerated quickly. Weather was alight rain. It was like the radar for the cruise control shut off or stopped being processed.
The adaptive cruise control in this vehicle has several operational issues (programming bugs or defects) which are potentially extremely hazardous. Perhaps the most potentially dangerous behavior of the system is as follows:- when using adaptive cruise control, the system automatically accelerates and applies braking force to stay a set distance (one of three distances) from the nearest preceding vehicle. - when the nearest preceding vehicle changes lanes, the system can become confused, display "no preceding vehicle" and disengage. - this behavior can be dangerous or life-threatening in some cases, which i've experienced several times:what happened:- highway driving at 65mph, using adaptive cruise control and following another vehicle. - we approach an area of congestion or stopped vehicles (a traffic jam).- the preceding vehicle begins quick deceleration in order to avoid rear-ending the vehicle in front of it.- my adaptive cruise control also applies strong braking to maintain its programmed distance- the preceding vehicle changes lanes out of my lane- my adaptive cruise control displays "no preceding vehicle" and disengages, which means that it stops braking- my car is now flying into the vehicle in front of me, giving me only a moment to react and apply braking. Instead of disengaging during braking, the adaptive cruise control should continue braking down to a speed of 25mph, which is the maximum speed that toyota's safety stop operates at to bring a car to a complete stop. The current behavior of the system has led to several near accidents in my highway driving, and is undoubtedly a danger to anyone else who uses a toyota adaptive cruise control of this model on the highway.i reported this issue to toyota last year and they seem uninterested in fixing it, refusing even to convey my report to their developers in japan.

Traveling east on the 10 through phoenix az, my windshield was hit by something so small i couldn't see it. Caused a star less than 1/3" but also a winding crack almost 1 ft. Long. The real problem is that every day when i come out to my car, the crack has grown in a snaking pattern. It does not grow at all while driving. I periodically check it while driving. Today the crack grew over 1 ft. In length over the course of the morning, just sitting in the drive way.
The contact owns a 2017 toyota prius. While driving on the highway, the wiper blade on the driver's side detached from the vehicle in the middle of a rain storm. The contact pulled over, exited the highway, and purchased a new wiper blade. The manufacturer stated that the contact had to use toyota wiper blades even though the contact did not know where they could be purchased. The contact stated that this was the third time the blades detached and the blades were currently zip tied to assure they did not detach. The dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was 40,000.
Topic: 2017 prius windshield cracked.i have 2017 prius purchased new about a month ago with 1500 miles driven.2 days ago, when i pumped gas, i noticed a small crack in upper right hand side along the edge.i don't remember getting hit by an object while driving.yesterday the cracks gottenlonger.checked thickness between my finger, it looks the same as that of a drinking glass.a quick search on internet revealed that it is a very common issue with 2016 or newer model.called toyota and was informed that it is a manufacture defect.i have owed other vehicles made by toyota and honda that were hit with flying object with no problem.even with crack, it shouldn't have spiraled out that fast and large.please investigate to see if it is design mistake in pursue of weight reduction.thank you.

Car was parked in parking lot in 100 degree temperature. Windshield had no damage whatsoever. Returned to car 4 hours later. Two and one-half foot crack, originating in bottom driver's side corner of windshield, appeared. No chips were present. Due to the crack, visibility through the windshield is compromised and poses a safety risk.
A small pebble hit my windshield below the inspection sticker. Within seconds a crack starting developing. Within two minutes it reached almost halfway across the windshield. I have read many complaints about fragile and vulnerable prius windshields. I believe toyota needs to correct this defect, repair my windshield and perform any necessary re-calibration. I have uploaded two pictures.
Windshield cracked from bottom to top and across while sitting and there was no evidence of a rock or chip that would cause that. Air temp was about 95 degrees. No rain, no impact, car was sitting parked and not running.
We parked the car and went for a hike.upon returning to the car, we noticed a foot long crack had formed in the windshield.it does not appear to be connected to any chips or damage to the windshield.
Car was hit by flying debris which produced large crack in windshield. Vehicle was traveling down two lane highway at legal speed.
I pulled into the car port and put my car in park. I then hear a pop sound and saw the small hatch window was spider web cracked completely across the entire length of the small window. I went out to inspect the rear window and it had cracked and fallen apart on the sides and part way across the top. A week earlier, i went to get in my car and saw a crack going across the front windshield that wasn't there the previous day. There was no signs of rock or other objects hitting the windshield causing it to crack.
In early or mid may 2018, when my new 2017 toyota prius prime had less than or approx. 10,000 miles on it and when i was getting into my car one sunny morning in my gated parking lot, i first noticed a very thin vertical crack (circa 2-3 inches) on my windshield - starting at the very bottom of the windshield below my wipers. The crack was located in the middle of the glass, i.e. Between driver & passenger. The car was stationary, and had sat in my parking spot for the last day or two, and then on this may morning, there was a crack. No chip mark had existed prior to this, and no rock had hit it when i drove it last. There was no large tree near my parking spot, plus nothing was on thewindshield when i got to my car that morning, so nothing fell on it. In less than a week, the damage on the glass grew larger (6 inches) and was spreading. I took my car in for 10,000 mile service per toyotacare, but toyota denied warranty coverage for the repair or replacement of its fragile prius prime's windshield, despite it being within thewarranty period and the defect manifesting itself when the car was stationary. Within the next few days, the crack grew and spread larger, eventually turning 90 degrees and expanding horizontally. In late may or early june 2018, i replaced the windshield via safelite auto. The total balance of the first replacement was about $800 - i.e. Thereplacement cost was about $400, but i was told more money was needed to properly fix camera (adas) problems caused by replacing the windshield. In june 2018, the new windshield cracked, almost 1 or 2 weeks after i just had it replaced. While driving on the highway, i noticed a tiny object hit my windshield. I contacted the dealer. In august 2018, the dealership said it knew of no problems with the 2017 toyota prius windshields.
While driving approximately 30 mph on a surface street, i heard a loud noise and a crack appeared at the right edge of the windshield, advancing leftward up and then across the windshield and into my line of sight in the driver's seat. I did not see anything hit the windshield and have never heard a sound like that in nearly 50 years of driving. After researching replacement windshields, i discovered that they are back ordered because so many prius owners are having to replace windshields. In fact, a class action lawsuit related to these defective windshields was filed this march. (see https://www.courthousenews.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/toyota.ca_.pdf ) i am now driving with what i fear is a safety hazard to me and any passengers.
My windshield cracked for no reason, while it was parked. This is the second crack i gotten on my windshield from owning it for 2 years. This is highly unusual, i don't drive my car very far, and it happened while it was parked.

Just bought my 2017 toyota prius not over 4 months and my windshield have 1 large cracked and a tinny chipped on it. As i was driving on the highway cracked when a tiny rock hit the upper right side i could see the crack getting longer until it nearly reached the middle.i am very worry about the quality of the windshield by the 2017 toyota prius.
Friday january 12, 2018, drove vehicle 3.5 hours on highway during period of declining temperatures- 34 to 29 fahrenheit, with snow beginning hour 2.5. Operated front defrost continuously for entire 3.5 hour trip with cabin temp between 72 and 75f.made 2 stops, 10 minutes each- one at 1.5 hours and one at 3 hours.parked overnight in home garage at end of trip.air temp declined to 19f overnight.backed car out of garage in morning and windshield cracked at centerline of front defrost vent.crack has continued to expand to points almost exactly 5 inches beyond each end of defrost vent, then stopped expanding.passenger side (right side) crack is aligned exactly with centerline of defrost vent.at point 5" outboard of vent, passenger side crack turns down and extends to bottom edge of windshield. Driver (left side) crack is parallel to vent on line 3" below vent, then turns up, crosses vent, and parallels vent 3" above vent to termination of crack at 5" outboard of vent.nothing impacted windshield during trip and windshield was not cracked at end of trip.engineering defect- inadequate glass strength- unable to use defroster for extended periods.crack created by stress from localized thermal expansion- aligned with heat source of defroster vent at lower middle region of windshield.this is first extended use of defroster in car- purchased may 2018.currently has 21,800 miles.
Driving on highway and a small rock hit the outer edge of my windshield and within 5 minutes had an 8 inch crack and by the end of the day it has expanded to over 12 inches. Called to have fixed and windshield has been on backorder for over a month. Car is onky 1 week old!
My complaint has to do with a design "feature" of my new vehicle. Having owned it less than a week, no related incident has occurred. However, i see an unnecessary risk due to this design.my new car, a 2017 prius 4 touring, comes with no spare tire. There are three prius models like that, even for the 2018 model year. Have you considered the related safety aspects of that toyota decision?in the western us, especially, there are many paved roads with little or no traffic and spotty, if any, cell phone service. Typically, they are in desert areas, scorching in the summer, frigid in winter, with towns far apart. If a driver of a car like mine has a tire blowout in such a remote area, he/she is literally stranded. The supplied tire repair kit will not help in case of a blowout. Average owners will not even know they are without a spare tire until they need one.more than an inconvenience, this could be fatal to the driver and passengers in extreme heat or cold. The driver's only hope is that another vehicle will happen along to help. A risk like that does not justify a manufacturer's cutting costs to boost profits.imho, the nhtsa should take the following actions:1 - any car sold new without a usable spare should be recalled and retrofitted. 2 - manufacturers should not be allowed to sell cars in the usa without a usable spare.thank you for allowing me to voice my opinion. I hope you will agree that absence of a spare tire is an unnecessary risk.
