I had just changed my oil in april 2, 2001 and i had driven it about 3,000 milesand i startrd to have problems withthe engine.my oil pressure guage nevergave me any warnings that i was low on oil.all of a sudden i was driving it to work and there was this terrible noise, i found out that there was no oil in it except for about 1/4 quart.iwas in shock because i have always took care of my cars.i have a 1982 toyota truck with 148,000 miles on it and it is still running.i feel there was a default in the mechanism somewhere.the mechanic said the oil was going thru the engine and evaporating thru the exhaust.that is why i showed no leaks in my drivewayfor the loss of oil.could you please help me with my situation?should icontact toyota ? thank you.
Gas mileage suddenly dropped from 29mpg to 18 mpg w/out explanation.
Because of the air intake valve is so low that when driven through water its sucked up water into the engine and destroyed it. Please describe.tt
When driving from stop light, right back wheel began to spin. Drove for some distance and condition persisted. Pulled to side of road and noticed fuel spraying from right side of car. Moved vehicle to nearby garage and stopped. Part was then replaced. Is toyota responsible for this part failing in such a dangerous fashion?
The brake and fuel lines on my toyota pick up (vint4vno1d9n2o12572) have been suffering from an acclerated rate of corrosion (far beyond any other underbody component including the sheet metal) and have been leaking and failing for the past two years.these lines appear to be acting as a sacrificial anode for an electrically induced corrosion compared to environmental factors such as rain snow and salt.while my vehicle is old the singularity of the corrosion of the brake and fuel lines compared to the other parts of the thruck indicates this is not merely an age issue.the consequences of the failures of these lines are spilled gasoline & fire and loss of brakes/inability to stop the vehicle.i have had most of the fuel lines replaced and am now looking for the garage/repair shop to have it towed to have the rest of the fuel and brake lines replaced.i have kept some of the old fuel line pieces and intend to keep some or all of the old brake lines when they are removed.
Consumer states he noticed fuel on the ground and could smell gas from the passenger compartment, took vehicle to dealer who determined the check valve had broken and fuel had spilled on engine, dealer removed intake plenum and replaced pressure regulator in fuel rail.
Dt:the contact stated while the vehicle was parked on a hill the parking brake failed.the contact'svehicle rolled down a hill and hit another vehicle, which sustained damage. The contact's vehicle was taken to a mechanic, who noticed the cable broke.nothing has been done to repair the vehicle.
The left rear wheel completely separated from the axle assembly.tt
Hydraulic operated clutch malfunctions while either driving or starting vehicle. Clutch would disengage sometimes. Intermittent problem. The hydraulic fluid was clouded & contaminated. Took to garage, not dealer, & had master & slave cylinders replaced.this occurs when starting, clutch pedal down (interlock), the transmission can still be in gear and the clutch plate still engaged, let the clutch pedal out and you find the clutch fully engaged.
Seat belt buckle separation due to weak springs.
Drivers side belt bucklewill hold , but it will not release.dealer and manufacturer contacted and will not remedy the problem because of non warranty extension.
Passenger's 3-point restraint (retractor) failed.
Driver and passenger side seat belts do not retract.tt
The shoulder harness of the seat belts do not retract.
Driver's shoulder belt locks up while driving, preventing driver from turning to look over shoulder.*skd
Consumer was driving with the cruise control the brake locked up hydraulic brake .tt
Front disc brake rotors and pads have been replaced yearly. Theywear out very fast, only highway driving at about 60mph. Dealer contacted, and the warranty was only for one year. Consumer assumesit is design defect.
This model of truck rotors warp like crazy. I had new rotors put on 2 days ago, and they are already warping again with no hard stops. Fixing the problem is a complete waste of money, so i drive around with extremely warped rotors(i.e. Faulty brakes). I suspect most everyone else who owns this model truck does the same thing. This braking system on this vehicle is faulty and hazardous. ***dimsii ivoq entry posted after 12-12-02 cut over to artemis***761446
At 3,000 miles the front brake rotors warped, once had to have them cut down, second and third times rotors were replaced .please describe .

When driving the truck and applying the brakes, the pedal goes to the floor and there is no braking ability. The master cylinder has been replaced 3 times since owning the truck.
The contact owns a 1992 toyota pickup. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign id number: 05v389000 (steering: linkages: rod: relay: connecting) and the vehicle was taken to the dealer for repairs. The contact stated that the dealer only replaced the steering relay rod but did not perform an alignment and reinstall the skid plate on the vehicle. The contact stated that the dealer refused to make the additional repairs on the vehicle to complete the recall. The failure mileage was 140,000.
Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)i own a 1992 4x4 toyota pickup (vin #[xxx])i read an article last week in the washington post saying that this year toyota pickups have been recalled for faulty steering and linkage rods.i also read a press release on nhtsa website about it.i called toyota, and both the dealership and the 800 hotline tell me that my vin # is not covered by the recall.my pickup has always made binding noises when i make hard turns.so given the question of toyota's veracity in addressing this problem, i want to report the company's refusal to do the recall work.i have seen no other information from nhtsa or anywhere else that some vin numbers are exempted.my question is whether the nhtsa will confirm toyota's assertion that my vin is exempted from this recall?
I recently purchased this vehicle and noticed it has an incomplete recall
I took my toyota pickup to kendall toyota (miami, fl) in regard to nhtsa campaign id number: 05v389000. Apparently they did not want to do the service. They gave me many problems on the phone when i called to try to make an appointment for the service. After many calls and complaints, they agreed that i could bring it in the next day. But on march 4, 2011 they kept me waiting a long time, did not complete the recall service, did not bolt the engine shield back onto the bottom of the vehicle, and refused to complete the work. I asked to speak to the service manager and the general manager. They both refused to talk to me.i called toyota motor sales, usa and filed a complaint with them. I was promised a contact from an appropriate representative at toyota motor sales, usa within one business day, and a contact from kendall toyota within three business days. It has been twenty days, and both toyota motor sales, usa and kendall toyota refuse to contact me to discuss this problem.i had previously attempted to obtain the recall service at toyota of south florida (miami, fl). They would not perform the service. They argued with me for almost 30 minutes that i did not own a toyota pickup, even though it was parked in their driveway, in clear view through the large window. After that they argued that my vehicle did not have a recall. That's why i went to the more distant and less convenient kendall toyota dealership.i was formerly very fond of toyota, and assumed that these were miami problems, but it appears to be a company-wide problem. I had very bad responses from toyota motor sales, usa when i tried to complain about the first dealership, and now no response regarding the second dealership. Toyota will not complete the recall remedy.
I have a 1992 toyota truck [xxx] with 265000 miles. On oct.27while driving my center link broke at the pitman this caused me to not have any steering control. Since i was not going at a excessive speed i was able to stop the vehicle safely but just barely i was trying to turn right at a intersection my truck went straight through the red light almost broadsiding a truck. Due to thisi feel it is important to report there is to no telling how manyaccidents have happened and the cause was destroyed in the rubble or the persons involved were killed. The center link had a crack in it i don't know when or how it occurred. I brought the part to the toyota dealership in asheville nc but they could care less about it. Basically it is old and out of warranty it's not our problem. I find this unacceptable have the old part for your inspection and would like some follow up as to who really knows how many of these have failed and no one is alive to tell what really happened.updated 07/24/2012 information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)
Took my 1992 toyota short box pickup in for a brake job. Both frame members half way between the front and rear tires were rusted so bad that one could put ones arm all the way thru. The truck has a good engine and tires, but now is just a dangerous piece of junk. Nothing can be done to fix it.
Brought my 92 toyota pickup truck in to have a belt changed.the guys at the shop put the truck on the lift and the truck just folded.the frame is completely rotted you can stick your hand right through it.currently the recall on frame rot does not cover my year.
The contact owns a 1992 toyota pickup.while the contact was changing the rear tires on the vehicle, he was informed that there was a crack in the rear of the frame near the passenger side tire wheel well.a couple of months prior to the failure, the contact drove over a bump and heard a loud suspension breaking sound coming from the rear of the vehicle.the vehicle has not been diagnosed by the dealer.the current and failure mileages were 300,000.
The contact owns a 1992 toyota pickup. While driving at any speed, the bed would strike the back of the vehicle. The dealer and manufacturer were not contacted. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 217,800.
Rear bumper completely rotted out and is full of sharp jaged edges.very dangerous if someone steped on it or wiped it when washing the vehicle.
1992 toyota pick up (v6,4wd) was taken in to have 2 rear tires installed. When placed on lift a complete cracking of the frame was discovered on the left side. The metal actually flakes in your hands for almost 18 inches. The same thing is happening on the right side. A friend had the same problem and was told not to drive vehicle due to possibility of fuel tank explosion. The current frame recall only extends to 1995 and newer, but an investigation should be made to determine if the problem goes back further.
Purchased 1992 toyota pickup purchased with 89000 miles in summer of 2006.has been garage kept and has 92000 miles currently.took vehicle in to get parking brake replaced. Dealer informed me that they refused to service vehicle due to extensive and severe frame corrosion.took vehicle home and confirmed that sides of frame members are completely rusted through.learned from phone conversation yesterday that this is not an isolated incident.researched this online and see causes as manufacturing-related (either skipped rustproofing completely on frames or substandard chemical composition materials were used in frame manufacture).toyota has publicly acknowledged 1995 and later pickups were affected and has offered to buy back the vehicles from current owners.this does not cover the 1992 model year.yet toyota's action confirms the frame defect was present when vehicles were manufactured.additional research turned up instances where the vehicles completely broke in half while being driven. I have serious concerns about the road worthiness and potential for catastrophic loss of life given the frame condition.will write to toyota separately and convey my concerns.i now realize my personal safety is at risk, as well as that of occupants of any other vehicles that may be near me on the road were this to occur, given the severity of the frame corrosion.if not for the frame defect and the imminent frame-induced life-threatening scenario, this vehicle is in near-perfect mechanical condition.
1992 toyota frame is rusted through near the passenger side leaf spring and when driving over road hazards and bumps the vehicle seems to shift and jump off of frame thus may cause an accident if driver control is lost.
1992 toyota pickup sr5 v6. Was approaching the freeway on ramp and hit a bump and heard a loud pop and immediately lost steering. Upon inspection, my left upper control arm frame mount was broken off. This mount also holds the motor mount. Taking a closer look, it looks like the metal had cracked at some point and rusted through and the bump was the last straw. Its a miracle i was not on the freeway yet, or i (and possibly others) could have been seriously injured!
My only complaint is that i purchased a 1992 toyota pickup truck new in 1992 and have never seen anything rust like the undercarriage of this truck. Toyota had a recall on some trucks, but not go back that far. I can tell you this truck rusted profusely 2 yrs after i purchased it. This truck was garage kept for many years but did not seem to make any difference. I first had part replaced on top of the gas tank...it rusted away....i had it replaced for a second time 3 yrs ago....i had to have the gas lines replaced. There are so many rusted parts i had to have replaced to keep this truck safe.....i feel when they had a recall of the other trucks, this one should have been included....i own 3 toyotas....i bought the 1992 pickup and a 1992 toyota camry xle at the same time....my camry is not rusted, why???, is it because it was built totally in japan...different steel???? there is a problem with the metal that was used to build this truck.......i believed toyota knows about these trucks but did not want to go back a couple years earlier and replace these vehicles....my truck is 17 yrs old and only has a 138,000 miles on it...it was my intention when i purchased these vehicles was to drive them many years, but many problems with the truck......due to safety, these trucks should have been on the recall.how do you pay $17,000 for a truck and in 2yrs metal parts are rusting away.....i feel my truck should go under the recall......i documentation of replacing metal parts......too numerous to mention....i have mechanics that can attest to what was done to this truck over the years.
The contact owns a 1992 toyota pickup. While driving, the contact heard a noise in the rear of the vehicle. When he examined the vehicle he noticed that the subframe had holes in it and extensive corrosion. The transmission support shield was also corroded. The vehicle was taken to the local mechanic who placed a temporary metal shield in the transmission area. The mechanic stated that the subframe could not be repaired and should be replaced. The manufacturer denied knowledge of the failure. The failure and the current mileage was 109,250.
Took my 1992 toyota truck in for service while on the lift they noticed that the frame near the leaf spring was rusted through. It was large enough to put your arm through it and they said it was not safe to drive. It is great little truck other than this. The mechanic said that there may be a recall for this.
The frame has had excessive rusting around the rear suspension area for about 7-8 years.repairs have had to be made to this area.finally, toyata anounced a recall for this problem but it only goes back to 1995.
