Takata recallthe nhtsa is aware of this recall but may not appreciate the full impact on the owner of the car.i feel unsafe driving it due to this recall but there is no remedy.i can't get it fixed.when i went to the dealer and asked when remedy is available no one knows.so i said fine let me trade it in and buy a new car.however, since there is a recall the dealer said he couldn't offer full trade in price because he would be unable to sell it until the remedy is made.so i don't feel safe driving it and i can't sell it without a loss in value.neither are my fault.takata has me stuck in a very poor position and i am disappointed with toyota's response

I called back in january of 2017 and they said the part was still not in. Today 8/16/17 the part is still not in. This is unacceptable. In january they gave me a rental and i still have it. The air bag light came on and it is a recall on the passenger air, but they are informing that it is nothing that can be done, until the another notice comes out and the parts are available for repair.this is a very big inconvenience and a disadvantage on the behalf of toyota.the only solution toyota suggest until the remedy or parts becomes available is that do not operate the vehicle with an occupant in the front passenger seat to ensure safety.i am very dissatisfied with toyota and other measures should be taken in order to ensure safety of my vehicle.

On february 11, i took my 2009 toyota matrix to motorcars toyota of cleveland heights, ohio, to have the car repaired in the gas pedal recall. While there, i was informed of another recall on the car, on its brakes. Both of these issues were address and i picked the car up on february 13th.on february 24 at 7:45am, i was driving westbound on i-90 in westlake, ohio; it was snowing and the roads were wet, unsalted. As i was rounding a corner near the crocker bassett exit, my car began to skid. I immediately began to pump the brakes and attempt to straighten my car out, but the brakes did not engage. I firmly pressed down on the brakes and nothing happened; i then tried the emergency brake and the car still did not slow down. I was unable to regain control of the vehicle and it began to spin out and to the left. I pumped the brakes as hard and fast as i could, but the brakes never engaged and my car hit the cement median at 55mph. Due to a build up of snow and ice against the median, my car was propelled into the air and landed on its roof. My airbags did not deploy in the crash.

Takata recall, last june 2016 toyota let us know the passenger side air bag was a takata air bag but has done nothing to fix the problem. We called toyota of orange 4 time seance we received the notice the last time we where told to get an attorney by the receptionist. If serious death or injury can be caused why doesn't toyota of orange take the mattermore seriously. Being told over and over there is no fix at this time, or as i said above " get an attorney". How dose toyota motor sale called there notice important safety recall (interim notice) and there dealership dose not take the matter serious. This is important to me and my family, but not to toyota motorsales or toyota of orange.

Toyota accidenti drive a leased 2009 toyota matrix. At 8:24 am on november 16, 2009. Pulling into a parking space at the doctors office building boca raton. The car was almost stopped and my foot was on the brake, when the car revved up to the maximum, jumped the curb and hit a palm tree. I immediately switched off the engine. I was dazed, and after a couple of minutes i got out the car to see the damage. Having heard of car mat problems, i inspected the mats, but nothing was out of place.after a few minutes, i went to my doctors appointment , but had to leave before i saw the doctor, as i didn't feel well.despite a lot of front end damage, the car was drivable, so i decided to drive the car to my home , but i was frightened all the way as i thought the car might do the same thing again in traffic.when i got home i called allstate and reported the accident. I told them thereis a problem with the car, as it accelerated by itself, and the driver side airbag did not inflate..per instructions from allstate, the car has been towed to ed morse cadillac for repair of the damage incurred. My question is, can i legally break my lease and return the car to toyota, as it is unsafe.. Updated 05/25/10updated 07/29/10updated 12/21/10.

Takata recall. Currently 8.5 months pregnant. Due to the fact that toyota cannot guarantee not only a timeline till when a solution will be provided to resolve the recall, but that the passenger airbag will not deploy with no one in it, my vehicle is not safe to drive. The risks greatly outweigh any benefit of driving the vehicle.

Takata recalli received a recall notice months ago (although letter was not dated making it more difficult for the customer to track lack of progress- hence date below is a guesstimate. The letter (attached) notified me that the passenger side air bag was defective and dangerous.the letter said that toyota was seeking a remedy and in the meantime i should not use the front passenger side. I have heard nothing since. So i have effectively been denied full use of my car for months. This is not reasonable. My elderly mother is coming to live with me. I need use of the passenger seat. Is toyota prepared to pay for a rental or offer some other compensation?

Takata recallit has been almost one year since the recall was issued and the status is still listed as incomplete. I have been driving with unsafe airbags for a year and this issue should be remedied.

Takata recall. Toyota has repeatedly assured us that the new airbag parts will be ready in "one month". Toyota has been saying this for the past 5 months leaving us with a car that is unsafe to drive and we are unable to sell. Toyota's best advice was to not drive the car and come in for a rental while we wait, they have been out of rentals for the entire time we've been waiting. I understand most of this is takata's fault but toyota has done a terrible job keeping us informed and is allowing my family to drive a potential death trap covered in their badges.

"takata recall"i am wondering when the fix for this recall will be available in my area.

Matrix rear ended a mercury mountaineer at about 35-40 miles per hour. The entire front end of the matrix went under the mountaineer's bumper. The entire front end of matrix was pushed back into the coolant system. Both head lights were pushed into the engine compartment. The bumper was almost detached and on the ground.the hood was pushed back on itself about 3 feet.the airbag did not deploy.my daughter was driving the matrix and her head hit the steering wheel.she suffered a concussion.

The recall notice told us to take the car to a toyota dealership to have the car repaired free of charge.when we took the car for repair they said it had already been repaired and after checking with the manufacturer they stated it had been fixed on march 2, 2016 in nj.the car was in maryland on that date under my ownership so we do not understand how they could have repaired the car.they want to charge us for the diagnostics and possibly the repair since they insist that the car was already repaired.we have an airbag warning light located on the instrument panel that will not go off.this warning light is the same light on the recall notice.toyota does not want to fix it without a fee, and they believe they have already fixed the problem.the light remains on our car to date.we would like an investigation of this mater before seeking legal counsel to rectify the safety problem.the vehicle was parked when the light illuminated and does not go off while driving the car.

Takata recall. The contact owns a 2009 toyota matrix. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 17v006000 (air bags). The part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The local dealer (tri county toyota 15 d and l drive, royersford, pa 19468) was contacted and confirmed that the parts were not available for the recall remedy. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Vin tool confirms parts not available.

Takata recall - since receiving june 9, 2016 safety recall (interim notice), i have not received additional info from manufacturer for when takata front passenger airbag inflator (zone a) will be replaced. When will the replacement of the airbag inflator or the airbag assembly finally become available??! this is an unreasonable risk that can result in serious injury or death!!

"takata recall"we received our recall notice letter and immediately contacted our local authorised toyota in rhinelander wi and were told it would take a few weeks for the replacement parts to arrive. After not hearing from them in that time we phoned again, and after once again giving our vin and information , we were told who ever took the call had not submitted the order . So once again we are told it's on backorder and they will contact us when it comes in so they can set up a appointment time to fix it. The recall notice recommended not having a occupant in the front passenger seat. We should be provided with a safe vehicle by toyota to use with the length of time this is taking until this is fixed.

Takata recall.i received the interim notice from toyota that states "...we recommend that you do not operate the vehicle with an occupant in the front passenger seat...".i use my vehicle for my family and toyo is recommending that i not use it.does toyota plan to provide loaner vehicles or rental car re-imbursement for the period when my vehicle is not operable as a 5-passenger vehicle with passenger air bags?i don't understand how they can sell me a vehicle and then not use it for its described purpose.clarification would be appreciated.thanks.

Ltr fwd fm (ne) re unintended sudden acceleration from owner of a 2009 toyota matrix involved in an auto accident on 1/13/2010, reply to omaha, ne ofc.*tgwthe consumer stated he rear ended another vehicle while attempting to brake, but instead the vehicle continued to accelerate. The consumer stated the police did not write up police report. The consumer also stated the air bags failed to deploy. Upon inspection, it was determined the air bag sensors were fried, probably well before the accident.

I was traveling at eastbound at 25 mph and entered a controlled intersection in manitowoc, wisconsin.a motorcyclist traveling northbound approaching speeds of 60 mph ran a yield sign and t-boned my 2009 toyota matrix s 5 spd manual in the back passenger door and back quarter panel. The force of the impact spun my matrix 180 degrees so i ended up facing westbound at the curb.the passenger-side curtain airbag deployed.however, the driver's side curtain airbag failed to deploy and i ended up with a mild head injury and a sprain/possible dislocation of my left shoulder from where i struck the inside of the vehicle.my concern is why the driver's side airbag curtain failed to deploy when i was t-boned by a motorcycle at 60 mph turning my car 180 degrees to face the opposite directioni was traveling.in my opinion, based on the impact, my side curtain air bags should have deployed as thedirection and force of the impact would obviously force my body in the same direction, north, into the side of my car;the same direction the motorcycle was headed.the failure of my driver's side curtain airbag deployment led to a head injury and a shoulder injury; possibly a dislocation of my shoulder.i am awaiting the radiologists review of thex-rays taken today at aurora health care center on reed avenue in manitowoc, wisconsin.toyota should take my concerns seriously and investigate the air bag systems in their 2009 matrix models.

2009 low mileage toyota matrix stalls suddenly in traffic, complete stall, must restart.occurred several times in all sorts of weather, but mostly in humid conditions.restart cleared engine computerdealership had difficult time replicating failure.finally remedied with replacement of electronics part in june 2009.

While driving, the car stalls. Everything turns off and i'm dead on the street, turnpike or highway. I have taken the car in twice, but toyota has no idea what is happening. Sometimes it does not happen for a while, and then it will start stalling again. I have taken the car in again after stalling on the pa turnpike. This is a major safety issue. I am stalling on city roads, highways, turnpikes, and i risk an accident or being killed.this is a dangerous issue. I have informed the toyota car dealership this will be their last time to find the problem and fix it.

I have a 2009 toyota matrix and it continues to have issues. Toyota has never sent notification of recalls and this car has a few. When i bring it up to the dealer they act as if i have no idea what i am talking about.my tires need replacement at 20,000 miles and the brakes grind when stopping even after they were replaced at the dealers expense after they told me there was nothing wrong with them twice! i had to go back to the dealer 3 times as the parts people sent the wrong parts twice!!the tire warning light is constantly coming on even though i have had it to the dealership 3 times and they tell me nothing is wrong.i am told that the change in temperature makes the light come on. I am to the point i am going to replace the tires and be done with it.the last thing i need is a tire blow out on the interstate. The engine gets sluggish and bogs down while on the interstate and the interior features keep having to be slammed back into place because they come out of place. I was told by a salesman at a car show that it happens with the matrixs and they don't know why.each trip to the dealership i am treated as a woman who knows nothing about cars.my father is a mechanic and i know my way around a car.cobb county toyota in kennesaw, georgia is the worst dealership. I am going to try another dealership or just head to an independent. I saved for 2 years to buy it and now i feel very upset that toyota cares so little about the customer.i understand there are a few more recalls out on the 2009 matrix, yet i haven't been notified of them by toyota.when i brought up the new recalls to the dealer he looked shocked and tried to tell me that wasn't true.why are new toyota buyers getting free service when our cars are the problem.i'm going back to honda!toyota use to be great. The president of the company should be ashamed and commit seppuku or at least provide current owners free service too.

Power steering malfunction occurred and warning light (on the dashboard) was on. Steering wheel became very hard to turn. Luckily this happened on the parking lot, and not on my way back home (trip on the highway) which for sure would resulted in car accident with serious consequences. I have contact toyota however at this point they are not concerned in this matter as safety issue and will not cover any expenses for such repair (power steering electrical unit/ relay was replaced_parts~ 900$ and labor ~500$).

Bought 2009 toyota matrix s new. I commute approximately 45 miles one way to work on freeway, normally with cruise control on. I have experienced several occasions of acceleration "surge"(relatively minor increases in acceleration without touching accelerator). My wife also experienced unintended acceleration while taking our son to school under normal street speed. I would also experience several situations of difficult vehicle control on freeway due to steering issues. I thought at the time it was just wind pushing against the car until i read other drivers experiencing the same thing.

I just narrowly missed an accident with a train. My car engine shut off right over the train track today. My 2009 toyota matrix first problem started stalling suddenly in traffic last year, but now very frequently stalls even on highways at high speeds. No warnings. When stalled all lights comes on in dash, including "check engine" light. Completely turn off ignition and restarting is the only way to start the car again. After restarting the check engine light goes out. Occurred several times in all sorts of weather, but more frequent on hot summer days. Restart cleared engine computer, dealership had difficult time replicating failure. But, advise to replacement the engine control module as it was a well known safety recall for the year models up to 2008. Dealer refuse to assume the cost of replace the engine control module (ecm).nhtsa campaign number: 10v384000

My car is a toyota matrix s 2009, this vehicle has given me problems since the eight months it was purchased with a mileage of 8000 miles at the time of the incident, the check engine light, vsc off, 4wd and warning slip was seized without reason, and the engine made me a very loud noise, like a big truck engine, this has already been happening to me for 6 consecutive times lately i have this problem 3 times in a row in a month, each time i replaced the crank sensor and water pump, but the problem persists, i transported daily to my child in this car and i am appalled every day fearing an accident, do not want this car but now i'm in the process of arbitration return, do not i have confidence in the toyota corporation, has had many concerns about security in their products.

The current and failure mileages were 72483.updated 12/17/09 the warning lights remained on until the ignition was turned off. The speedometer and tachometer never left zero. Updated 12/21/09

2009 toyota matrix.consumer writes in regards to safety and operational issues with vehicle and seeks to return vehicle for refund of the purchase price.the consumer stated she has experienced several near accidents because of the inability to see oncoming vehicles approaching from the left and traffic (particularly pedestrian traffic) blocked completely from her view on the right by the large side mirrors. Additionally, backing up and detecting approaching vehicles frombehind created an issue, because the pillars by the rear window blocked her view. In addition, the vehicle made a grinding sound while idling, and the under mount sounded as though there was a metal grinding on metal.

I have a 2009 toyota matrix xr.it stall intermittently , more frequently in humid weather.can not "recreate" situation, but happens at least 5 times per week now that we are in a more rainy season.i first noticed this problem in november but it cleared up during the cold months and now is back with the fury.i took it to the dealership in december--again could not recreate for dealer.yesterday it happened twice in city traffic.i have dropped off car at dealer and they looked at it today and couldn't find anything wrong.the car had 60 miles on it when i purchased it in november and currently has 6,300 miles. 2009 toyota matrix s stalled while still driving, sometimes at highway speeds. Been driving for about 30 minutes then suddenly stalls and is unable to restart. Dealer says they can't recreate or find problem. May be same problem with 2005-2008 matrix.

2009 toyota matrix with 1.8 l engine stalls at intersections.dealer very resistant to admitting to the problem, but allegedly "reset" control module, resulting in less frequency of occurrence.potentially very dangerous situation as not possible to predict when stall will occur and more likely in intersections.stalling occurred numerous times, especially from 8000 to 10000 miles.vehicle currently at approximately 19000 miles and has occasional stalls.

2009 toyota matrix stalls randomly 3 to 7 times a day.stalls occurring randomly while driving, including some on highways and some in intersections.car must be turned off an put into park or neutral in order to start car back up.

When going up a hill in 4th gear car shifts down to 3rd gear to maintain speed & there is a loud noise that shakes the car (as if the engine's going to fall out). Happened about 20 times so far. Toyota dealer mechanics got car to repeat this 3 times (once hooked up to a computer). The mechanics & the service manager all feel that the transmission needs to be replaced. I have 100,000 mi. Extended warranty. The person from toyota (not from the dealership) that has to approve putting in a new transmission refused saying it is an intermittent problem. He then said it was the way i use the gas pedal. Then why did it happen on the 3 roadtests when brought to dealer. The shift into 3rd (on a hill) is so violent that i'm afraid to keep up speed on the parkway when going up a hill. I pull into the slow lane & put on my flashing lights & stay at 50 mph or less. I feel that the car is unsafe to drive. I have 90,000 mi. On it. I have reported this incident to toyota customer relations on the phone (they are based in california). They said they would look into it & get back to me in 3 days (tomorrow). I have bought 4 toyotas in a row & got my sister-in-law & her son to each buy one. If this is how toyota treats a loyal customer (all cars are serviced at toyota) then i guess i & my family won't be buying one again. I paid a good deal of money for the extended warranty. A lot of good it's doing me. Thanks for listening.

My daughter was driving home on a snowy night and suddenly the brakes became unresponsive, the abs and brake lights came on, and luckily she didn't need to come to a full stop at that time.after that the brakes worked for the rest of the drive home, but were spongy and she needed to give additional time to stop.toyota issued a tsb-0205-09 on 7/6/2009 about this - c0215.we spent 671.10 to repair the rear left and the mechanic said we will most likely need to do the rear right in the future.i called toyota reimbursement dept. About this and they said they would do nothing since it's out of the warranty period of 36k.they said it's not a safety issue as well.my point to them was how can you issue a tsb in 2009 on a 2009 model and not back this problem up for the life of the car?they know the sensor is going to go bad most likely, it could cause a serious safety issue, but no recall was ever issued.this is a dangerous business practice!we already had 2 recalls (floor mat interference with accelerator pedal and accelerator pedal reinforcement bar) on this vehicle.this needs to be addressed and the consumer shouldn't need to bear the cost!

I signed up a lease with hudson toyota for a matrix 2009 presumably a brand new one. I signed the papers and brought it home on sept.3,2008. I drive it to nycon sept.4,5,6 then it was parked on my driveway the whole day on sept.7. On sept.9,it was dead. I called service and described them the problem, the service person said "the battery is dead ,go get a jumper and start as soon as it starts bring it to the nearest toyota service". And i did just that,i followed his instructions to a tee. I bring it to the toyota rockland service, they tested it they said its weak, then its dead. They did some more tests and they said its the abs motor that is defective, they have to order it so they said they will replace the battery but every night when i turn off the engine, you take off the switch inside,"you open the front to expose the engine and you take out that part,in the morning when you are ready to go you put the thing back on"the abs motor will come on thursday but thursday morning it was not yet there it came like in the afternoon already so they put it in. The following days the abs sign will still turn on but it will turned off after awhile. Now its the awd sign is on so i bring it to hudson toyota but nobody wants to talk to me on the phone so i came there even if its late. I saw xx and xx and i showed them the lights and tell them what happened they said they're sorry and i asked them about my registration and the plates they said they do not have plates only registration. Xx said i can save a lot of money by using the same plates from my old car and in that way i don't have to pay for one registration's talked to mr??,welcoming me to the lease program but when i started telling him my disappointment,he offered to pay 1st mo.lease but declined. He said you're smart you know you can never get another car nor can you get your money back. I paid $6246 that day. And its still not right. Now the awd light is still on and when i parked the car smells burn up. The end.

In very cold weather, which we have had plenty of recently, and i make a gradual stop from a speed of 45+ mph, there is a split-second surge forward followed by a hard stop "bump" when the car comes to a final stop that is the best way to describe it, the road surface is not slick, nor am i making a sudden stop. The problem does not happen in temps above freezing, nor does braking seem impaired. I am somewhat unnerved by the momentary surge forward followed by the sudden bump that feels like i hit a curb.

I had my 2009 toyota matrix fixed for the recall and just last weekend experienced a braking incident that scared me half to death. I was approaching a traffic light and stepped on my brakes but my car sped up and nearly hit the car in front of me. Luckily i moved to the next lane.

We are a first time customer of toyota vehicle. We bought a 2009 toyota matrix s awd (vin: [xxx]) with 22k miles from caldwell toyota in july 2010. The car now has 26k miles and all brakes are broken.the car is used on a daily basis but for very close distance.the car was supposed to be certified and fully serviced and repaired by the dealer when we bought it. There has been less than 1 year and 4k miles on the car since we bought it from the caldwell toyota.we feel strongly there is a quality issue with the car and would like to have it examined and repaired with no charges to us. But both the dealer and toyota refused to do so. We would like to just have a written record of this issue in case there are more and more fatal issues with this car.

About 4 weeks ago (and again, this morning, twice!), i experienced problems when braking: the pedal would go more then usual, but the car would not slow down at the same time as it was producing terrible grinding/scratching noises as if parts were coming off. It is not doing this consistently, but since it happened twice this morning, i am concerned.i did find a recall notice dated august2009 on the brake system for 12 more northern states that experienced brake problems on 09 and 10 matrix and corolla vehicles with 1.8 engines due to extreme cold. I live in the mountains if nw n-carolina, and our weather is very much like that in more northern states. Present, we have 4-5 inches of snow on the ground, and temps were about 35-36 this morning (awaiting another winter storm). When it happened last month, it was much colder, but there also was lots of snow on the ground.

Over heating brake pads. 2009 toyota matrix. Front disc brakes producing a grinding sound consistent with a brake pad that's worn down and needs to be replaced. Brake pads still have 40 % life left according to world toyota of chamblee, georgia. Dealer says brake pads are over heatingdealer says problem can be fixed if pads are replaced but wont replace pads at their expense stating pads are not covered by warranty.

Brake failure--rolled into parking spot, stepped on brake and car didn't stop.pre-recall fix on toyota matrix.

The contact owns a 2009 toyota matrix. While the contact was driving approximately 20 mph, entering a circle in the roadway, the brake pedal was engaged with no power response. The vehicle would not slow down and crashed into the passenger side rear of the proceeding vehicle. The vehicle continued to travel and then crashed into the stairway of a house. The front driver side tire was trapped in between the stairway and sidewalk. There were noinjuries.a police report was filed for the incident. The vehicle sustained extensive front end damages. The vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer. The insurance company had not inspected or declared the damages to the vehicle at the time of the complaint. The failure mileage was approximately 10,000. Updated 11/9/10updated 11/16/10

On my 2009 toyota matrix the engine over speeds when braking with myright shoe ( size 10 rockport - five inches wide) overlapping thethrottlepedal which just 2 and 7/8 th inches from the brake pedal.try this in anemergency stop.it's real exciting.

February 09 i was driving in back of a truck and staying far in advance not close to the truck.the truck went to put his brakes on and my car accelerated and i went to put my brakes on and the car hit the truck from the back.

I would like to reprt serious problems with the accelerator (unintended acceleration) and brake problems (don't stop well) of my toyota matrix model 2009.

Driving my 2009 toyota matrix - i was driving in back of a truck and he slammed his brakes on.i had to be driving one car away from him then all of a sudden he slammed on his brakes - i had to be going 25 mile per hour.my car accelerate up and by the time i put my brakes on i had slammed into his car gently.it was because of how slow i was going that saved me.

When you're driving the car unexpectedly pulls to the left or the right then when trying to correct the steering over corrects thus jerking the car in which ever direction you are trying to correct. This action occurs every day. We have taken the vehicle to two different dealership service departments, at one we were told the front tires were swapped and at the other they said they could not duplicate the problem and we were told that there was nothing wrong with the steering and that without a recall there was nothing they could or would do to fix the problem.

The contact owns a 2009 toyota matrix. While driving 35 mph, the power steering seized without warning. As a result, the contact lost control of the vehicle, drove over a road retainer, and landed in a ditch. A police report was not filed. The contact did not sustain any injuries. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, but was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 74,000. The vin was not available.

I have a 2009 toyota matrix that has multiple issues including a steering issue that almost caused my family their life, now i am being told i need new brakes at 19,800 miles. The rear brakes are not adjusting at all which may be causing the steering issues. Car is having interment issues going into 1st and reverse, reported multiple times, toyota says they cannot duplicate. Car is still under warranty. Also, one tire is wearing on one side which is a known issue.the steering issues has been reported along with the one tire wearing issue by over 500 people but toyota will not recognize it.i am scared to take my car on the interstate due to the steering issue and this is a new car with low miles.my family is at risk of break failure, or worse due to the defects.when i called toyota,m they said if i ride my breaks a lot, that could be the cause.i do no such thing.this car is only driven to work and back everyday and has been serviced on a regular basis only by toyota dealer in rivergate. I have also reported defects in the gas gauge.when i fill the car up, it registers on empty for at least 2 hours before moving to f. It does not happen every time and since toyota cannot see it, they said they cannot fix it.

Car was parked. When i returned to the car, the power steering had ceased to function and warning lights were lit for the power steering, abs and brakes.i understand there is a technical service bulletin on the power steering unit for this vehicle for issues related to the power steering locking up.luckily i was not driving the car at the time.

When accelerating, the car veers sharply to the right.it's not an alignment issue but feels like the torque steering.i must have my hands firmly on the wheel to correct it.this happens at least twice weekly.according to my toyota dealer there is no recall on this issue.

While driving to and from work i have experienced a problem with the steering of my 2009 toyota matrix. This generally happens when i am driving on the highway going over 40 mph. The car will suddenly veer and i have to compensate by steering in the opposite direction to bring it back onto the road. At first i thought it was the wind blowing my car to the side but even on calm days it has happened. I have had other people drive my car who have had it happen to them. It does not happen ever day but at least once or twice a week i experience the problem.

2009 matrix xrs certified vehicle purchased with 33,000 miles around 2010, currently 48,000 miles and has 5 yr, 100,000 mile extended warranty.this vehicle is difficult to drive on the highway.the vehicle wanders into the left or right lanes and driver must fight to keep the vehicle in a straight line.the local chantilly toyota dealership denies the issue and any tsb.the steering on this vehicle is dangerous and warrants further review by ntsb if toyota continues to stonewall its customers regarding safety issues.i will follow up with toyota national.

Steering wheel pulls to the right/left.purchased car used from toyota dealer noticed the steering pull during test drive. Dealer aligned car, but still pulls to the right & left.

At 12:30 p.m. I was heading north on oh-25 in bowling green, ohio. My car began shaking, but i was not overly concerned as we often have windy days. I turned right onto oh-582 and became slightly more concerned when the shaking in the cabin did not cease. I noticed that the car did not shake below about 45 mph but again attributed the shaking i experienced to my car fighting against winds. I turned left onto i-75 n and accelerated to merge with traffic. After merging safely into the right-hand lane, i continued accelerating until i reached 55-60 mph and merged into the left hand lane. Shortly, i reached 65 mph. When the shaking, which i had supposed to be due to strong winds, did not cease, i attempted to decelerate. I pressed lightly on the brakes to begin a slow deceleration, with the intention of merging into the right hand lane and putting on my hazard lights until i could come to a safe place to pull over. Instead, when i began to put light pressure on the brakes, the car veered unexpectedly to the left. Surprised, but not overly alarmed, i let off the brakes and attempted to correct the trajectory of the vehicle, which i did not judge to be a difficult maneuver. Instead of coming back into the middle of the lane as expected, the car overcorrected and spun perpendicular to the following traffic and the semi beside me in the right hand lane. The car then slid toward the semi, partially under the bed of the truck and as my car slowed, the front right end of the car made contact with the back left wheels of the truck. On impact, the force of impact pushed my car back out through the left-hand lane and into the grassy median where it came to a halt.

The contact owns a 2009 toyota matrix. Immediately after the vehicle was started, the warning lights illuminated and the steering wheel became difficult to turn. The contact stated that the failure recurred several times. The vehicle was towed to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 103,000.

Warning light for electronic power steering came on, and i lost power steering.dealer says car too hazardous to drive and i need a new electric power steering motor with cost of installation in excess of $800 - not covered by warranty, outrageous on a four year old,well-maintained vehicle.now waiting for parts.

I started my car, and the power steering light was on. I tried to tun the wheel, and noted the power steering stopped working. I got the car home, and called for service at my local dealerships.they wouldn't give me an appointment".researched the web, and noted this issue was a wide spread complaint.i checked the fuses (noted them okay), the steering resumed....however, this is a real concern, being that the steering appears to be an issue for these cars.what can i do to get this repaired?

My car would not start after i had stopped to get a hair cut.i cleaned the battery terminals and was able to get it to start.when i tried to turn the steering wheel it was very hard to turn the wheel.i managed to drive it a half block to a napa dealer so i could replace the battery and i wasgoing to buy some power steering fluid.i was surprised i could not even find the power steering reservoir.after i replaced the battery the steering returned to normal.really scary now after i researched and found out than many others have had the steering go outwhen they were driving at high speeds. Not sure why there is no recall on this.

The contact owns a 2009 toyota corolla matrix. When starting the vehicle all of the warning lights illuminated on the instrument control panel. The speedometer failed, and then there was a loss of power steering.the vehicle was taken to the toyota dealership for inspection. A technician stated that because they could not duplicate the failure they could not provide a remedy. The current and failure mileages were 72483.updated 12/17/09 the warning lights remained on until the ignition was turned off. The speedometer and tachometer never left zero. Updated 12/21/09

Ongoing steering problems on 2009 matrix cause it to over steer when car hits bumps or when there is a wind of any kind. The faster the speed, the worse the problem. It is dangerous to drive in windy conditions. The car badly over steers and i am afraid it will roll in windy conditions.

On sept 9 2009, i was on my way to las vegas nevada in my 2009 toyota matrix sport and noticed when i exceeded alittle over the speed of 65 my car began to swerve side to side nearly looking like i'm about to side swipe the car in the next lane over..and this is not the only time this has happened a few more times on my way to work. And i have taken my car to toyota and they kept on trying to convince me that i need new tires and i need alignment done, so really they didn't to anything for me my car is still new and i didn't need tires at all i still had alot of tire tread, and if you looked at the tires you would notice i was burning nothing but shoulder were going since i got it. So i've been very unhappy with toyota they haven't don't anything to make me happen but just want to try and charge me for so many "services" that my car "need". :( very sad that i bought a toyota, i think i should have gotten a ford.

The contact owns a 2009 toyota matrix. The contact stated that while driving 20 mph, the steering wheel seized and excessive force on the steering wheel was required. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The technician diagnosed that the power steering electronic control unit needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vin was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 85,000.

I have a 2009 toyota matrix with 5000 miles on it. It will be moving down the road fine and start moving to the left into the nest lane on the highway. Upon trying to correct it will glide to the other lane on the right.it seems like a real struggle trying to keep the car in the lane. I have had this happen several times and my husband has also experienced this. We tried to blame it on the wind and the shape of the car, but it has not been windy every time this has happened.we live in a snow belt and are concerned if this would happen on snow or ice we would not be able to correct as normal.

Bought 2009 toyota matrix in sept. 2009... Have experienced both gas pedal issues and steering issues. Gas pedal issue has been "fixed".in regards to the steering issue, i have noticed that when i was driving at speeds over 35mph it does pull to the right and feels like the car is being pushed by wind, my daughter & husband also experienced this while driving the car. I did not report the steering issue to anyone because i did not know it was a defect, this is the first toyota i have owned and thought it was a toyota thing.also, i was involved in an accident in nov. 2009 in the toyota matrix, i am unsure of whether the gas pedal issue may have played a role in that incident. I do not own this car now, i traded it in on another vehicle.

The contact owns a 2009 toyota matrix. The contact stated that the power steering failed without warning immediately after the vehicle was started. The steering light illuminated and the steering wheel was very hard to turn to the left or right. The contact was able to drive the vehicle to the dealer; however, when he made a left or right turn, it was very difficult. The contact had to use the outer lane to safely make a turn. The dealer told the contact that the computerized power steering unit failed. The failure and current mileage was 18,040.updated 05/05/11*ljthe consumer stated on april 8, 2011 the same defective power steering unit was placed in the vehicle and failed. Updated 11/28/11

The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the contact was informed that there was not a problem with the tires. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted about the failure. My husband and i were on interstate 495 of the washington beltway sitting in a 3 mile backup where 5 lanes were merging into one. My foot was firmly on the brake leaving plenty of room from the car in front of me. All of a sudden i realized that the car was inching forward and the brake would not stop the acceleration. My husband realized what was happening and looked down and knew that my foot was firmly on the brake. All of a sudden, it just stopped as fast as it started. We came within inches of hitting the car in front of us. As i sat in that mess of a traffic jam and saw the amount of cell phones being used, it hit me. Did all these phones start that car to move?this matrix 2009 only has 22,700 miles on it but i will be taking it to the toyota dealership and toyota will be receiving a letter from me with the details. The recall work on the accelerator was done 2 months ago.i have also made a complaint to the dealership that the car seems to do something between 20 and 40 miles per hour when you are decelerating. I can't tell exactly what it is doing because it seems to jerk. The dealership put it on the computer and said nothing was wrong. It may be unrelated to the other problem but it is one more thing that i have noticed about this car. As a note, my husband and i have had toyotas forever and currently have a 2004 corolla and traded in the 2006 corolla for this matrix. We have never had any trouble whatsoever with our toyotas until now.

My passenger window stopped working ( my window is half way open) while driving in 108 degrees weather ( i live in yuma az... The hottest city in the united states). The next day i went to toyota dealer in yuma az and they told me to come back the next day because they didnt have a technician available, it was around 3:00 pm. The next day i stopped by right after work 3:00pm (weather 108 degrees). Everything is going fine, i dropped off the vehicle and the service representative tells me that he doesnt know how long its going to take. 3:45pm he called and advised my car will be ready before 5:30pm, i was happy. At 4:00pm he called again and tells me they dont have the part to fix my car, i was mad. At 5:00pm i went back to toyota dealer to pick up my car and asked the service representative to please advise the technician close up the window up because of the extreme hot weather, the representative said it wasnt possible. So i get in my car and i started it and i noticed my car was shaking (really bad), something it wasnt doing before. I put it on drive but it started shaking even more so i called the service representative and told him about it, he said to come back. The technician checked it and they said it was something about the battery and the computer being disconnected and needed a reset, i really dont know but why they were going to let me drive off with my car like that? its unsafe. After i waited another hour i was finally out of there and they told me to come back again the next day. So today july 17 at 11:00am the service representative called and told me the part to fix my car wasnt in and it wasnt doing to be in until monday...i am very upset with the dealership service, and they are not resolving the problem, im concern about my safety due to the extreme heat (sand storms) and vehicle theft.

On several occasions i notice my accelerar /gas pedal sticking. Also at times hard to press the accelerator also.at 1 times i almost had an accident had i not been able to put the car in nuetral and stop, almost getting hit doing it.i didn't realise what it until i read about this recall and was never contacted to this day about it from toyota or its dealer.

I was sold a defective 2009 toyota matrix.my son was driving the vehicle merging into traffic.his lane was ending and there wasn't an opening for him to merge.he wasn't able to stop the car and ended up running into a telephone pole which fell on the vehicle and it was totaled. He said that he didn't understand why he couldn't stop and couldn't explain what happened.the police officer was upset at my son because he said there must have been a reason he crashed into the pole and since no one could figure it out the police officers only conclusion was to assume that my son was sleepy. In march of this year i received a call from the local toyota dealer stating that our 2009 matrix is being recalled for the defective accelerator pedal and that i should bring it in to be repaired.i explained to them it was too late the vehicle has been totaled in an accident.i was originally informed that toyota would do an investigation.then after several weeks they told me that there is nothing they can do because the vehicle is not available for an investigation and also because no one else has reported problems with the matrix.the fact is i was sold a defective car and my family and i were in danger every time the vehicle was driven.the steering wheel was also defective.the airbag was coming out of the steering wheel and the whole steering wheel.it was replaced before the accident.

On april l9, 2008 with 2788 miles on my new car the front tire went soft and when taken to dunn tire they told me the tire was defective.i was naturally upset with so few miles but put a new one on which cost me $l61.a few weeks ago, my car was pulling to the right and the mechanic at monro muffler told me i had a "bad tire" and would have to replace both front tires ($408) i could not afford it and called goodyear who told me they would check it out and perhaps replace the tires.after two weeks i called again as nothing was done and i feel i am driving on unsafe tires asnow it pulls to the left.my contention is that defective goodyear tires were on my car when purchased.they are eaglers-a sport tires.i do not know if goodyear will offer to replace them or not but feel there is a safety issue involved here and i should not be responsible for replacing 3 tires on a car that at the time of the last tirre check had l5,701 miles on it.i know goodyear recalled some of their tires but not sure if the ones on my car are included.think not.

2009 matrix consumer has questions regarding sudden acceleration recall.. *cwso far the consumer has not experienced any problems. However, she was under the impression that she would receive a recall notice regarding unwanted acceleration. From what she has read, it appeared that the gas pedal may not be the only, or even the problem for the reported unwanted acceleration, but also an electronic throttle control system problem.the consumer wanted to know can the electronic throttle control system be checked and tested and even upon replacement, how can she be reassured that the electronic control system is properly working?

My matrix 2009 has had intermittent sudden acceleration problems. I mention it at my regular maintenance check ups, but receive non-committal replies. I figure i must be losing it. Over the last 8 months or so, it got extreme: the car will lurch forward at different times: when i start up the car, idling at a light, or slowing to a stop. Today, sunday morning, as i was pulling into a parking spot at walmart, i began to brake slowly when the trans roared and lurched forward. It jumped the curb and plowed into the front end of the car facing me. At first, i thought i must have hit the gas - but no. My foot was still on the brake - all the way to the floor. I still owe money on this car. I ruined the front end of another car. I am a single mom of 2 and a teacher.i don't know how i am going to be able to handle this. I do not intend to repair this car. It is not safe. Thank god the other car was empty. This car could have killed someone. And, no: no tickets/accidents/ageism. Just a regular middle-age lady who bought a used car 4.5 years ago, took good care of it, and am now seriously stuck and stressed. So, thank you toyota. I saw on other blogs today that this is not an isolated incident, but a recurring problem. You have known about this for years, and have done nothing. Your company will cause innocent people to kill someone or themselves.

I have a 2009 toyota matrix. I purchased it in november of 2008. In october of 2009 the car had roughly 7,000 miles on it. I experienced my first incident of unintended acceleration. I drove up a hill to a stop sign and as i braked the car lurched forward. I put both feet on the brake and put the car in neutral. I thought that i might have some how had my foot on the gas, so i did not think it was a serious concern. However, i had two more similar incidents in the following months. Both pulling up to stop signs. Both times i heard the engine start to accelerate and was able to control it.when i heard about the toyota recall i immediately called and had my car serviced. The toyota dealer did recall work on my brakes and gas pedal on february 10th, 2010.on february 26th, i was driving about 5 mph in a parking area with my son. I put my foot on the brake and i felt the car push forward. I put my other foot on the brake as well. My son said "its doing it again mom!" i put it in neutral and we both heard the engine wind out like i had pushed the gas pedal to the floor.this obviously means the recall "fix" isn't working!i contacted my dealer andam getting a loaner car. I am very concerned what this means in terms of future safety and my monetary investment in this car.

I was driving on a secondary highway going between 80 and 100 kph with the cruise control engaged. I was traveling along in top gear at an rpm of 2000-2500 - when i noticed that i was entering a construction zone where traffic was halted. I had just begun to travel up a hill toward the halted traffic. As the car started up the hill, i noticed that the rpms had dropped and caused the gears to shift down into a lower gear with higher rpm to pull the car up the hill. Almost simultaneously of the car shifting gears, i pressed the brakes hard to begin stopping. I was alarmed as i felt the car struggling to accelerate hard against my braking. The braking had not disengaged the cruise control. I pressed the brakes harder. Then, thinking the car might be confused, i took my foot off the brakes before pressing the brakes hard again. I still felt the car struggling to accelerate hard against the hard braking. I had the presence of mind the turn off the cruise control by pressing the button on the end of the cruise control stick. Immediately, the unintended acceleration stopped and the braking was effective to stop the car.i have never again experienced this problem of cruise control not disengaging upon braking. I suspected that the sequence of braking beginning almost simultaneously to the gears shifting may have caused the confusion in the cruise control. That could make the issue a software problem in cruise control as opposed to a mechanical braking problem.

I recently bought a 2010 toyota camry and was never contacted by the dealership or toyota about the two recalls on my car.when i called the dealership to make an appointment to fix my car, i was told by the service person that why did i need to fix it for, he acted like he didn't even know about the recalls.they made me wait two weeks for the appointment and then had to keep my car for a whole day.before the 2010 camry i had bought a 2009 matrix through another dealership and i finally this past week received a safety recall on that vehicle, well unfortunately i don't have the car anymore since i had a car accident in march of 2009, where i almost lost my life.had i known the vehicle had issues i would have immediately returned the car.i went through months of physical agony and medical appointments and today i am still not better a year later.i feel that i was betrayed by toyota not once but twice.i would never buy another vehicle from toyota.i feel that the way they handled this whole recall situation is unethical.i could have lost my life and never known about the car problems.then i watch the news and see that there has been many deaths because of this and i could have been another statistic.

In parking garage at place of employment - as i began to pull into a parking space, the car suddenly accelerated.i immediately hit the brakes with no effect.the car continued to accelerate until it hit the wall of the garage.toyota dealership refused to inspect the vehicle until body damage is repaired.currently waiting for a toyota inspector to make an appointment to inspec the vehicle.

Herrin-gear toyota, jackson ms says this is a different issue from the sticking gas pedal, this was approx one month ago. She braked to slow down, disengaging the cruise control. When she could safely pass, she accelerated quickly to get around another vehicle. After she passed the vehicle, the vehicle continued to accelerate very fast, after she removed her foot from the accelerator and applied the brakes to slow the vehicle down, it accelerated out of control. She responded by continuously pressing the brake pedal very hard and she also pressed the button to turn off the cruise control. Although the engine was fighting the brakes, she managed to slow the vehicle down and pulled to the side, put the vehicle in neutral, but the engine continued to roar. The contact was able to turn the vehicle off.the contact inspected the mat and it was not in any position to hold the accelerator down. Had the recall issue with the gas pedal fixed - however when trying to make a turn in traffic there is a hesitation before the car goes! it is only a few seconds of a delay, however dangerous when you need the car to go. On going issue - does not do it every time so it really catches you off guard.

The first thing i noticed was that the accelerator pedal would not accelerate when i stepped on it going onto the on-ramp, about a month ago. On tuesday, i went to the dealer and they said they didn't have the parts yet, that they would call me, and that they didn't even know what to do with the parts when they got here. They said they had one of those courses two weeks ago, but what they learned there does not really apply to the problems that are coming on now. So even when they got the parts, they would have to figure out what to do with them. I tried to ask for a replacement or something of the sort, and they said that they didn't even have any cars to provide me because all the models on the lot were included in the recall. The next day (yesterday), i tried to stop at a stop sign and it diminished the speed but it did not stop completely. It didn't stop until the middle of the intersection and i got a ticket.

My 2009 toyota matrix was on the recall list for gas pedals that may stick or accelerate without cause. I took the car into rice toyota in greensboro nc where it was purchased. They performed the recommended repair on feb. 13, 2010. On feb. 22, i started my car and it accelerated without cause. The floor mat was in its proper position. I tapped the gas pedal lightly to "unstick" it. This did not work. I turned off the engine and waited a few minutes and restarted it without incident. I had not had any problems with this car prior to the "fix" and haven't had any since the feb. 22 incident.now what do i do?? i've contacted the dealership. They are willing to look at it but have said there isn't anything they know that is causing this and told me to contact toyota. I will do that today if i can get through.

February 09 i was driving in back of a truck and staying far in advance not close to the truck.the truck went to put his brakes on and my car accelerated and i went to put my brakes on and the car hit the truck from the back.

While driving with the cruise control engaged and traveling in the right lane on an interstate, i applied the brakes to slow down from 65 to 55 as i approached a truck in front of me. This was done to allow a car in the passing lane to pass me. When that car had passed, i released the break to pass the truck ahead of me after having had the break applied for 5 or 6 seconds (far longer than necessary for the cruise control to have shut off.). When i released the break, the cruise control re-initiated itself and the vehicle returned to 65 mph without my touching any further pedals. My feet were on the floor and there were no floor mats near the pedals. The cruise control alone was accelerating the car.

Investigation results of report#-426903 given 2/12 of unintended acceler: was investigated by spx corp. Investigator hired from toyota. At my apt. Setting, in my reserved parking spot because car could not be driven due to severe front end damage.i was given a memory stick with edr download info., telling me toyota will respond. 22 pdf pages, 19 were bizarre math equations, never to be understood. My event showed when ignition turned on engine at 1600rpm, to 800rpm, as i began to move, then went to 2000rpm, in less then 60 seconds, within a small lane, plunging me into brick wall. Letter from toyota administrator said no faults were found, sorry cannot be of assistance. In the 3rd paragraph was false info. Re: extensive test drive done to test brakes, etc. Everything working well. I called his direct # leaving a message in regard to i had serious questions "test drive"? leaving my name & #. He called next day to apologize, "i misstated the test drive", at the service center it was driven a short distance, i said service center? tm- yes!, i said street outside my apt. Door? tm- yes!. Then said parking lot? tm- with hesitation, yes! asked if he was sure of the outcome, yes! next day via fax i wrote to him telling him that he made many misstatements! there is no street by my apt., car never went to a service center, have lo jack telling me the car was never moved since collision.which i knew since frame is severely bent, bumper rests on ground, all oil leaked out. If this is how a administrator of toyota claims responds with outright lies, how many toyota owners have been deceived. I told him; let's cut to the chase, i want a replacement car that is safe! 2000rpm- that is hwy. Speed, 1600rpm at startup with foot on break, toyota calls this safe? he never knew the car could not be driven or where it was investigated, am i to trust his response? not at all!

It is reported regarding the toyota sudden acceleration recall that for owners who have had the first attempt to correct the problem (install metal reinforcement bars in the accelerator) and the attempt did not work toyota would replace the entire accelerator assembly at the vehicle owner's request. I have had problems with the unintended acceleration, had the first repair attempt completed and i still have the problem. I called my local toyota dealer where i purchased the vehicle and was told that toyota will now refuse to perform this second attempt until next month when another different type of "fix" will be scheduled (shaving the accelerator pedal).my vehicle does not have floor mats and i find this excuse unacceptable.

We have a 2009 toyota matrix that would not stop as my husband was driving down our long driveway. He went over a curb, hit some bushes, went down thru a field and almost into our pond--this happened twice before he finally got it stopped before hitting a large boulder. We want the scratches fixed.

I purchased a 09 toyota matrix 5dr, 2wd, cuv on 1/24/09.during the first week in march 2009 i was driving on a 45 mph city street going a little less than the speed limit when all of a sudden my car sped up.i gave the gas pedal a tap thinking it had just stuck, but the motor kept racing as i picked up speed.i took my foot off the gas pedal and put my foot on the brake pedal, but the car would not slow down. I never looked to see how fast i was going, i was too busy, trying to slow down and find a place to pull over before i caught up to the car ahead of me and rammed into it. Luckilythe traffic was light and the car in front of me a ways off, and i was in an outer lane and found a place to pull in, continuing to press down on the brake pedal as hard as i could.i immediately turned off the key and put the car in park.i tried to start it up again after a few minutes, but the motor continued to race in park.i tuned the ignition off, and i then discovered that a floor mat had slipped under the gas pedal, so i pulled it out and started the car again.i started normally.my heart was racing and it took me more than an hour to get my emotions under control because i knew what could have happened had i been driving on nearby rt. 95 where traffic moves at a fast clip and there is really nowhere to pull over.a few months later i saw on tv about other people having the same problem, but with heart wrenching results. I called toyota headquarters and had the incident documented. It has only been a few days that i saw the recall in the newspaper, so i am waiting to hear from toyota.

2009 toyota matrix first problem started stalling suddenly in traffic last year, but now very frequently stalls even on highways at high speeds. No warnings. When stalled all lights comes on in dash, including "check engine" light. Completely turn off ignition and restarting is the only way to fix this issue at that time. After restarting the check engine light goes out. Occurred several times in all sorts of weather, but more frequently in hot summer days. Yesterday stalled 4 times within 90 minutes drive. Restart cleared engine computer dealership had difficult time replicating failure. But, advised replacement of the engine control module at a cost of over $1000. Since this year model not recalled by toyota yet. I do not know how or where to complain so that toyota acknowledge that it is a safety issue and fix this at their expense.

2009 toyota matrixsince purchase has had a throttle/brake/transmission anomalythe car accelerates suddenly when going down a big hill or whenever i brake approaching a red light. Additional brake pressure - so far - has stopped the car..but i expect a vehicle to slow down not accelerate when i use the brake pedal.the recall fix has been applied - same action. I am concerned i am driving a vehicle that may suddenly cause a life threatening problem, for me or someone in front of my vehicle.dealer shrugged - expected the recall to work.

I told them thereis a problem with the car, as it accelerated by itself, and the driver side airbag did not inflate..per instructions from allstate, the car has been towed to ed morse cadillac for repair of the damage incurred.

The 2009 toyota matrix has a safety issue in my opinion.i bought my matrix (new) from downeast toyota in brewer, maine, on october 6, 2008.while driving this car during a test drive in the proximity of the dealership about 60 days prior to my purchase, there came a time when i had do make a left-hand turn as directed by the dealers salesman who was with me.before i made the turn i noticed a young lady on the edge of the road to where i was turning.this brought on a caution in my mind to be extra careful in making the turn.as i proceeded the turn, the oversized (in my opinion) side view mirror on the driver's side that is situated too high (in my opinion) blocked about 80 % of my view.at one point it was directly in my line of vision.i let out a, "whoa, eric" (to the salesman)," i can't see a thing."he did not say a word.i liked the matrix otherwise, so about sixty days later, i bought it (i thought the "bad vision incident" was a fluke.)while returning home from my doctor's appointment two days later, i came upon a left-hand turn in downtown orono, maine.to my absolute disappointment, i could not see where i was turning when the oversized side mirror came in my line of vision.again, approximately 80 % of my vision was blocked!i returned the matrix to the downeast toyota dealership in brewer.i told several people at the dealership, in person, and by phone from home, that i could not drive the matrix because of a safety issue.i asked for my money back.they more or less agreed, together, that i now owned the vehicle and that they would not return my money except that i could trade the matrix in on another vehicle as a used car.now, i know you can't do anything for me on the fairness issue.i am here saying that there is a safety issue with the 2009 toyota matrix.i love toyotas.i've driven them for years. This matrix should be recalled.thank you.robertdubay

The side rear-view mirror is large and creates a large blindspot so that it is very difficult to see objects when turning left.i was turning into my subdivision and almost hit a vehicle that was waiting for me to complete my turn before entering the intersection.i believe the vehicle was a red bmw sedan (small), and i didn't saw it until we almost collided.fortunately i was going slowly enough to make a quick correction when the driver of the other vehicle honked.i have had numerous other similar incidents during the six months i have driven my car.

The car has an unacceptable blind spot the side mirrors do not compensate for this. It resulted in me while backing up not seeing an elderly lady walking past my car, and i have had several close calls while backing out of spaces with cars behind me just in the blindspot or pedestrians. I am almost tempted to post a warning in back window. Perhaps a mirror insert would prevent this. Backing out while turned looking out rear you miss people in that spot. It is a hazzardous car to back up with.

I noticed that when making a left turn the front view of where you are turning is block...worse when making u turn....because the left side mirror blocks the entire view... I was lucky enough that my nephew advise me to be careful with the pedestrians as i immediately hit the brakes and the saw the upset pedestrian give me a dirty look.i have since been very careful when turning and i raise my head up to look over the blocking mirrors.i believe this is a structural issue that needs to be corrected.
