Airbag recall.i have been trying to get my car fixed since october.the dealer cannot get the part.each time i call the dealer they say the part has not arrived.called the toyota safety resolution team on 11/23 and they hooked me up with dealer.same story, part is on order but may be months before we get the part.

Driver-side air bag warning indicator is intermittent sometimes on , sometimes off.this seemed to start after the 3-yr warranty expired. Back then, i mentioned it to a dealer while in for a separate recall repair and the dealer suggested maybe i had stuff under or on the passenger side chair which could trigger the indicator. I never paid for them to check the car. Indicator goes on/offregardless of passenger/objects on the seat. Both front seats do not have stuff beneath them.more recently, clock illumination fades in and out, mostly out.this seemed to start no more than 3 yrs ago.car has still has original airbags and clock.i'm afraid that my air bags won't deploy during an accident.i'm angry that my car wasn't included in the recent recalls.

2005 toyota matrix. Consumer writes in regards to defective passenger side airbag. *ldthe consumer stated the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time completing the recall repair.

I receivd an interim recall notice in june 2015 for the passenger airbag. As of oct 19, 2015 the parts to replace or fix the recall problem are not available, and toyota cannot tell me when the parts will be available. I find this to be an extremely unreasonable amount of time, considering it is a safety recall and the notification letter for this recall recommended that the passenger seat remain empty until the problem is fixed.

My vehicle is a 2005 toyota matrix xr.it has never been involved in a collision or impact in any way.at approx. 37000 miles, the srs warning light activate and was diagnosed as a faulty spiral cable/clockspring. The spiral cable was replaced which did eliminate the srs warning light. I now have 60500 miles on this vehicle and again the srs light has activated, and has again been diagnosed with a faulty spiral cable, the repair cost has now been estimated by my local toyota dealer as $440.71, and they have confirmed that the srs system will not function until the repair is made.i now have my 2 sons, new drivers, that use this car.i fear that even if i get this problem fixed, again, that it will again fail at some point while in use and put them at risk. I have owned many vehicles that have had srs systems, but this is the only time i've ever had a problem, let alone a repeat problem, with a specific component.in my research, it sounds like many other toyota matrix and other toyota models in the same years of production are experiencing spiral cable/clockspring problems.this problem can effect the survivability of the occupants and truly concerns me. Thanks so much for considering my concerns.

Air bag (srs) started going on and off intermittently, then clock went on and off intermittently.now clock rarely comes on.the ignition must be turned on and off several times to get the air bag light to go off.the vehicle was taken to a toyota carmax dealer in laurel, md.the rep said there was probably something under the seat, and found an empty water bottle.when the car was turned on, the light was gone, and he pronounced the car fixed.two days later it came on again and has continued to come on and off randomly.the item under the seat story is bogus and only works because the ignition is turned on and off, not because items are under the seat.this is an obvious safety issue that needs to be fixed by toyota.i am now reading many many other people have the same problem and toyota will not recognize the issue.

The reason i am filing this complaint is i don't feel toyota's airbag recall is adequate.i purchased a four person sedan to carry four people.toyota is telling me it isn't safe for a person to ride in the front passenger seat, because of this recall.i feel i need to not only have my vehicle repaired but i need toyota to purchase my car back at market value or give me a loaner that will carry four passengers until my vehicle is fixed.it is unacceptable for them to ask me to not use my vehicle for what i purchased it for.regards,[xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).'

I received a recall notice for passenger air bag inflators which may be defective when in contact with moisture. I received this notice 8/15/15 but the date of the recall on the website is 6/15/15 - a difference of 2 months! i called the toyota recall hotline and was informed that there is no remedy for my location, even though i informed the representative that my car was purchased used and came from a beach area in southern california - a humid and moist area. I was informed that there is no estimated date when parts will be available in my location but to not allow passengers in the front seat. This is certainly not reasonable and very inconvenient. It is ridiculous to have a recall and not have prepared by ordering necessary parts. I am extremely dissatisfied with the "toyota experience" and am more than peeved that i have to wait for who knows how long to fix the situation. Until then, what do i do? i use my car for work and frequently drive clients, friends and relatives to various locations.

I already turned in an incident but did not get an e-mail or any reply back so am doing it again to make sure.my air bag light has been going on intermittently for 1.5 years.i was told by toyota that it would cost $180 to diagnose the problem and was never told that when my air bag light was on that my air bag would not go off.i recently found this out so had it checked out.turns out it is a faulty clock.toyota has the clock as an integral part of their air bags.i can't believe that they put my family at risk because of a clock.it cost me $560 to fix as well.there was never any assistance on toyota's part to assist me, lower the cost.my clock by the way works perfectly fine and it took them 1.5 hours to diagnose the problem.

Air bag spiral cable is damaged. After researching online, this seems to be a very common problem in toyota matrix, but no recall has been put into effect.

My air bag lightcame on two years after i bought the car and stays on. With so many recalls on defective takata airbags that were installed on many vehicles including toyota, i suspect that my vehicle is one of them. I have been patiently waiting for a rcall notice from the toyota manufacturer, so they can fix it, but so far, nothing can somebody in your office help to resolve this problem. I do not want to find out if this air bag works or not and get seriously hurt me and my family, god forbid, i get into an accident. The airbag warning light comes on most of the time. Dash electrical system is inconsistent -- clock sometimes works for example, but usually not. Blinkers sometimes don't work as well. Primary safety concern is the airbag system though. I've had several mechanics run diagnostics. Sometimes diagnostics come up clean and sometimes not. Spent $300+ without resolve and haven't heard since initial recall notice about a fix.

Airbag light drivers side stays on.

Takata recall - i received a letter several months ago informing me my matrix was recalled for the air bag inflators. I was told i'd be contacted when the parts were available. After hearing nothing, i went to toyota's website. It says the part should have been available in my area starting in dec. 2015. I contacted my local dealer , & they told me they couldn't do the repair until the end of aug. 2016. It will have been about a year & a half since i was informed of the recall - this is a totally unacceptable amount of time. Meanwhile, they suggest no one ride in the passenger seat until the repair is complete. Toyota is doing a terrible job with this whole thing.

The airbag light comes on soon after starting and driving. It appears to come on when the clock quits working also.

Air bag light came on repeatedly over a period of months. On 17mar2011 toyota dealer diagnosed two possible causes... Computer or clock assembly.computer was replaced under extended warranty.problem returned the next day.clock was replaced on 30mar2011 under extended warranty.problem seems to be solved as of 12jul2011.

The contact owns 2005 toyota matrix with 33,000 miles. The contact stated that the air bag warning light keeps coming on. The failure had occurred for sixmonths, which meant that the air bags were disabled. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated that the vehicles clock was the cause of the failure. The vehicle was repaired.

Toyota matrix rx 2005. Started car, driver air bag light failed to extinguish. Shut off ignition. Restarted engine, light went out. Since 6/3/2013 the driver air bag light has been intermittent, staying on about half the time i start the car. Often it takes 3 to 4 restarts to finally get the light to stay off. Occasionally the driver air bag light will come on while driving. I pull over when i can and go through the restart procedure. Otherwise while light is on the driver air bag is disabled. That could certainly be a deadly proposition. Several times i have visited toyota service departments to be told, "something is loose", or "can't find a problem." today, 6/17/2015, i drove to my local toyota service department for the passenger air bag recall service. When i started the car the driver air bag light came on. I drove to the toyota service dept, about 10 miles, left engine running until the service writer could verify that the light was on. I asked that they check the driver air bag system because the light came on intermittently. Approximately 15 min later the asst service mgr called me stated there was no problem with the driver air bag. I told him the writer verified the light was on and requested they do a diagnostic on the driver air bag system. $98.55 later the problem was stated to be in the digital clock in the dash. Toyota quoted $506.59 to replace the digital clock in my car to make the driver air bag function, so i wouldn't die in a crash!!!this just doesn't sound right that a life saving system should depend on a "cheap" digital clock to function correctly at any moment without peripheral equipment getting in the way. This should be a safety recall item.

The vehicle was inspected by an authorized dealer where they recoded the vehicle. The failure recurred a few days later. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 92,000. The vin was unavailable.

I do not know the exact date or mileage because i just discovered this site but my dealer would know.my airbag sensor light randomly comes on and stays on for several days to a week.i had dealer look at it and they said there was no problem....just a faulty light or something and nothing needed to be fixed.also, clock now works off and on.i am concerned because after reading information at other sites, the information says that the airbags will not work if the sensor light is on.i have also read that the airbag sensor light and the clock are connected.i do not want to spend over $400 to replace a clock but it's a whole other story if my airbags will not work without a functioning clock that doesn't mess up the airbag sensor.i don't even know who to ask since the dealer doesn't seems to realize this either.

Today toyota announced a recall for various models due to wearing of a spiral cable assembly in the steering wheel that connects to the driver's airbag module. For the matrix, the years are limited to 2009-10. I have a 2005 matrix, and a couple of years ago i had to spend hundreds of dollars to replace the spiral cable assembly due to wearing, so my complaint is that today's recall should be expanded to additional years.

Two months ago, i read a newspaper article about takata airbags, searched my vin in the federal web site, and discovered that my 2005 toyota matrix had been recalled because of potentially-lethal takata airbags.i immediately contacted both the toyota dealer that services my car, and toyota corporate.they assured me that i would be receiving written information about the recall, which would be mailed out that week, but had nothing else to offer in terms of addressing the safety of my car.two months later, i still have not received a recall notice from toyota. When i have spoken with the dealer or toyota corporate, they tell me they have no idea how long it might be before the parts are available or the technicians trained to replace the faulty airbag.toyota also refuses to provide any remediation in the meantime -- no loaner car, no disabled airbag, nothing. The only reason i know that my car -- which i share with my son -- is potentially lethal is because i happen to have checked my vin after reading an article in the newspaper.it is also unclear to me whether the driver of a car with the faulty airbag could be injured or killed if the passenger airbag deploys. Toyota's incompetence and irresponsibility in not notifying toyota owners, not arranging for replacement parts, not offering any interim remediation, and not training technicians to make necessary repairs is ludicrous, and, to the best of my understanding, violates federal law. Of course i will never buy another toyota, but this type of potentially lethal negligence is not something that should be addressed by market forces.it should be addressed by federal regulators.

The airbag warning light started come on my 2005 toyota matrix about 2 years ago, and the warning light usually went off if i re-started the engine. I brought the car to the toyota dealer to check the airbag system on 2007, but they could not find any problems. My car already had over 36,000 miles on that time, thus the warranty was expired. The warning light still came on and off occasionally thereafter. In march 2008, i had an accident when i lost the control of the car during the snowstorm, and i hit the fire hydrant at a speed of 35 miles (my car had 42000 miles on) the car sustained a severe frontal damage, but the airbag did not deployed at the time of the incident. It cost my insurance over $9000 for the repairs. I immediately suspected that there must been a complete airbag system failure on my car since the warning light has been come on/off , so i contacted toyota customer service if they can fix the faulty airbag system under the power train warranty. I heard "no"and told that i had to pay from my own pocket if there was a problem. The light somehow disappeared somehow since then, so i did not bother to bring the car to the dealer. However, i had another accident in april 2009 when i hit the deer on the garden state parkway in nj. The car sustained another frontal damage, and car was non-drivable.once again, the airbag did not deployed at all although i was driving around 55 miles. It cost my insurance over $4000 to repair. My airbag warning lights started to come up again recently, and it goes away if i re-started the engine again. I checked many car sites on the internet, and in my surprise, i read so many people have exact same problems on their vehicles (05 matrix). I strongly believe that there is an issue with toyota's airbag system, and i'm not feel safe to drive this car anymore. Someone really need to investigate on toyota vehicles and issue a national recall on their vehicles before someone gets hurt.

Takata recalli've been trying to get help with this problem with toyota formonths with nothing but very general responses, none of which, address my issue, explain toyota's position, and negligence, or answer my questions. I'm going to ask you to get all the detailsfrom the prior complaints i've sent over the last two months.please review and advise asap.thank you, (xxxx)parts of this document have been redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)

Drivers side airbag warning light intermittently stays on since sept. 2012, but now stays on most of the time since august 2013.this light means the air bag will not deploy in a collision.waiting for a recall letter from toyota.no recall yet for 2005 model and newer.this is also an issue with toyota matrix and corollas before 2005.

The contact owns a 2005 toyota matrix. While driving at an unknown speed, another vehicle crashed into the rear of the contact's vehicle. The air bags failed to deploy. A police report was filed. The contact sustained whiplash and the passenger sustained head injuries from hitting the windshield and whiplash, but no medical attention was required. The air bags were inspected by an independent mechanic who deemed the vehicle fit to drive. The air bag lights intermittently illuminated for both the passenger and driver side air bags. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 94,200. Updated 01/12/15*ljupdated 6/3/2015

Takata recall - in june 2015, i was notified by toyota that my matrix had been added to the list of vehicles affected by the takata recall and that i should contact my local dealer to set up repairs. When i called i was told that i would be contacted again once the parts were available. I have now received the notification that parts are available, nearly 10 months after the initial notification. What troubles me is that in the latest letter it states " until this remedy is performed, we recommend that you do not operate the vehicle with an occupant in the front passenger seat." why didn't they mention this before? why didn't they provide the repairs sooner? what if i had been in an accident with someone in the front passenger seat, they might have been severely injured or possibly killed. Why are these large companies allowed to put others at risk simply by performing some sort of failure analysis when peoples lives are at risk.

Spiral cable assembly with electrical connections damaged. Airbag light stays on when the steering wheel is turned. A recall for 2009-2010 matrix is in effect (http://www.autonews.com/article/20140409/copy01/304099971/toyota-recalls-more-than-6-million-vehicles) but 2005 matrix and other years are actually also affected by these defect. A recall for 2005 matrix to replace airbag module is announced by toyota but not for damaged spiral cable assembly which should be related to the airbag module defect as the airbag module is attached to the spiral cable assembly

The airbag light is always on in the 2005 toyota matrix . This is due to the spiral cable malfunction and there is no recall for this issue from toyota.with this lights on the airbag wont get deployed if there is a front end collision and its a security issue.

I was headed to work like i usually would m-f then out of no where the steering wheel had locked. This caused the car to loose control. The car all of a sudden was spinning around and eventually it flipped landing on its side. To top it off none of the air bags deployed! i was pulled out of the car my whole body aching, especially my arms. This was because i was holding on for dear life praying that i will come out of it alive. Luckily, no one was in the car but myself, but i know i do not need this to happen to me twice so i will no longer will purchase a toyota.

"takata recall"repair parts still unavailable. When will this be corrected!

Srs airbag light comes on and off intermittently. Clock also goes in and out. Was told the clock and the srs system are linked, and that when the light is on the airbag may not deploy. From doing research this is a very common problem in this car, and it is dangerous. Toyota couldn't diagnose problem, suggested replacing clock assembly.

The air bag warning light remains on while the car is on.i was told the air bag would not function properly while the warning light is on. The toyota dealer said the air bag wiring is shorting in the clock mechanism and clock parts need to be replaced for the air bag to work. Why do i need to fix the clock for this air bag to work?

Airbag warning light sometimes comes on and stays on.if i stop the car and remove the cap from the gasoline tank for a minute, the replace the cap and restart the car, the airbag light goes off.airbag light may remain off for many days.airbag light has been intermittent in this fashion for past 10,000 miles.no one seems to know why gas tank pressure should affect airbag warning light sensor system, but it appears to do precisely that.airbag has never been deployedno vehicle accident has occurred.however the numerous internet complaints about the airbag light coming on in the 2005 toyota matrix at about 80,000 miles suggests a design defect on the part of toyota.local marin toyota dealership (in san rafael, calif.) advises that if there is a collision when the airbag light is on, the airbag will not deploy.

I own a 2005 toyota matrix and my airbag sensor is on. I have talkedto and read about this brand car and that year car all have the same complaint. Why has this never been recalled?ihave taken it to a mechanic but he said this is a complaint that everyone with the matrix and the year 2005 have. You can find more about this by reading the internet under toyota matrix 2005. Thank you.updated 05/12/11

2005 toyota matrix safety recall front passenger airbag inflator malfunction.cwthe consumer was informed, the part was not available. The dealer disabled the air bag and placed a do not remove sign in the passenger seat. The consumer stated the dealer, did not get her permission, to disable the air bag. She was under the impression, the recall was going to be performed.

In my case nothing has happened yet.the reason i am communicating is because about 8 months ago toyota sent me a notice about the air bag of the matrix we own.we called the toyota dealership and told them about the letter we received from toyota and they took our number and told us that the part to fix the problem about the airbag had not arrived yet and that they would call us when the part would come in.to this day we have not received there phone call.we just received another letter from toyota about the same problem and do not know what to do about it now.we are worried that the bag may activate at any moment.

Received recall notice from toyota for the front passenger air bag inflator to be replaced. Attempted to make three appointments two months apart, and consistently told by the dealer (toyota of santa barbara, ca) the parts are not avaialble.

Takata recall. I was given the notice a few months ago (at least 2) that the passenger airbag needed to be replaced and to avoid having someone sit in the passenger seat. I contacted the dealer today (1-14-16) and the parts are still not available. It is unreasonable to take this long for a safety issue to be resolved and tell customers that they just shouldn't have a passenger.

To the administrator of national highway traffic safety administration:i received the undated airbag recall on toyota letterhead approximately 12-1-14.i took time off work, made an appointment on 12-15-14 with mossy toyota, 4555 mission bay dr., san diego, ca 92019. They said they did not have the part, only for gulf states.i returned on 1-9-15 to have my airbag disabled and the cya warning sign installed.within a few days the same agency called to let me know toyota has suspended remedies.in feb. 2015 national news reports another recall for a replacement part i have yet not received.i called toyota corp. Office to get a 2 hour runaround, having me repeat my ownership and vin#, with their main emphasis on me naming the original owner, no replacement parts in the future, not their problem, letter comes from dmv info.i bought the vehicle from mossy nissan 2/2006 and do not have the original owner information.i did learn my auto was built in texas so it is considered gulf state.my complaint is this:i have taken unpaid time off work to remedy a national recall.i am driving a car that i cannot carry family and friends safely.i have no remedy given by toyota.please assist in the solution.thank you,[xxx], registered owner for 9 years.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

The air bag light started coming on in my 2005 toyota matrix - i took it to the dealer and they cleared the code, but "found no problem."the light continues to come on and off and has been reset several times.after noting similar problems reported by others at www.consumeraffairs.com, i emailed toyota regarding a solution.their response is to take it to the dealer.it is of concern to me that the air bags may not deploy in an accident as has been reported by others, and it may be a manufacturing defect for which toyota needs to be responsible.

Air bag panel light has been coming on and off. The model year is 2005,but the car was made possibly in 2004. The dealer refused to inspect without charge then telling me that recall is for not this model year. The brake, when the abs is on in snow conditions, car take too long to stop, keeps kidding. Also engine revs withoutdriver input when stopped or idling. Toyota dealer denied, to be their problem.

I received a recall notice from toyota stating that i need to have a safety recall remedy performed immediately. The issue is related to the possibility of the front passenger air bag malfunctioning. I called the toyota dealership close to me to schedule the repair. I called soon after receiving the letter. I was told by the dealership that they are waiting on the part to come in and they will call me when it becomes available. I have been waiting at least 3-weeks. This is a problem considering toyota said this needs to be fixed immediately. I have not had an accident due to this problem but just filled in the date above since i had to in order to submit this.

Takata recall - i want to file a complaint in regards to my local toyota dealership failing to remedy my defective airbag within a reasonable time.i got the safety recall around june 2015 and they still don't have the airbag in stock.my local toyota dealership is jerry's toyota and their address is 8001 belair road, baltimore, md 21236.their phone # is 410-661-5700, any help is greatly appreciated.

Takata recall - this is my only car and i have two kids to transport as well as others and i cannot guarantee that no one sits in the front passenger side as requested.i am also concerned with my own safety as the driver, plus my son is starting to drive in 1 month as he gets his learners permit.i am in the priority 1 group but have heard nothing about getting this corrected.

The matrix began having various electrical problems, including engine warning lights turning off and on, airbag warnings, clock and headlights/brakelights turning off and on.we have brought it in to several mechanics for checks and various repairs, to no avail. Most recently, a dealer shop diagnosed that the ecm is likely failing, and in looking at the records from another dealer shop noticed that the ecm was on back order in 2011 to install a new one after a recall, but that a new one was never installed. However, my service records show that the first dealer shop told me (fraudulently?) that it was in fact installed. The car may not be safe to drive, but i have not been successful to this point in getting it repaired.the second shop informed me that the first dealer shop is responsible.

I am the original owner of a 2005 toyota matrix with 88k miles. The ecm in the vehicle(model 89661-01132) died. The dealer says this is a common problem with this series of ecm parts and they will install a new "updated" version (model 89661-02k41) for a mere $650. From searching online it appears to be a fairly widespread problem among toyota matrix owners and yet toyota has not issued a recall for these faulty ecms and the dealer is refusing to replace ecm outside of the federally mandated warranty period. All auto manufacturers are required by the epa to warranty ecms to 80k miles but this is obviously a huge problem and toyota is failing to take responsibility for a shoddy batch of ecms.

After reaching 94,000 miles mark like what some other toyota matrix owners experienced, there was a harsh in the transmission when you shift to reverse and the check engine light is on.

The contact owns a 2005 toyota matrix. While driving 70 mph, the engine completely shut off. Also, the electrical system shut off and the power steering stopped working. Perry motors (310 s main st, bishop, ca 93514, (760) 872-4141) stated that there was no recall; therefore, the contact would have to pay for the repairs. Takata recall. The contact owns a 2005 toyota matrix. The contact stated that the air bag warning indicator illuminated and the clock failed to work. The contact later received a recall notice concerning the air bags. The dealer scheduled the recall repair, but the remedy failed. After the repair, the air bag indicator illuminated again and the clock continued not to function. There were also various warning indicators that flashed on the instrument cluster after the repair. The dealer was notified and indicated that they were been unable to replicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was not available. How can i verify that the safety recalla0j phase 1 on my 2005 toyota matrix was rep[aced by a good ecu? i took it to the dealer and they said the ecu was bad. I think they are not being completely honest and did not look up any type of warranty information on it because they did not even mention the recent air bag issues in certain states.i bought this vehicle used and i believe the vehicle has never been properly fixed by the original recalls / warranties.

Clock is intermittent and air bag warning comes on frequently .. Heater control lights are also intermittent .. Have asked dealership to fix these items and they have not .. Gave up after the third attempt.

2005 toyota matrix with automatic transmission had check engine light come and immediately start shifting hard.no prior symptoms.called toyota service they said it was a loose gas cap, i asked are you sure it has nothing to do with transmission because when the light is on it shifts harshly. No pretty sure it is gas cap if it comes back on you have to pay $110 to check it.after it came back on drove for a week to see if problem continued then took to transmission specialist who said it had pressure control solenoid out.took it for second opinion to transmission repair shop and they said it is common problem with toyota matrix and corolla similar to rav4 problem that ecm is bad and causes transmission issues which in this case cause damage to transmission.called toyota and pointed out that toyota service bulletin tc014-06 and tc-015-07 state that if the check engine light comes on and there is harsh shifting to change the ecm out with a different part number.they agreed that if my car had exhibited these symptoms at under 80,000 miles they would have replaced the ecm under warranty because it has been improved to not do this.they said the unit could be replace now at 88,000 miles at a cost to me and they would not help me with the cost of the defective unit or the transmission damage it caused.

I own a 2005 toyota matrix. On 10/29/09 they had to replace the whole computer system. Mechanic said that they had trouble with alot of the matrixs and corollas. Cost me about $1000.00 to replace. My clock has been coming on every so often, but mostly stays off.the doors are not suppose to lock if key is in ignition or running. Three times it has locked me out. The dash board lights are medded up only half light up,this has been this way for well over a year. When i took it to the dealer when i had the work done they never fixed it. I think that someone should look into this matter because if they had to replace the computer on so many cars they should have a recall. Also, my pedal got stuck and caused me to run into a snow bank and mess up my front fender.

Clock, hvac switches blink on and off intermittently regardless of vehicle movement. Power locks work intermittently including when vehicle is put in gear. It almost seems like a electrical short but it comes and goes. This problem resembles the multitude of complaints regarding this make and model. There is also a vibration in the steering wheel at highway speeds which also resembles a multitude of complaints regarding this make and model. I am surprised after reading the numerous electrical complaints that toyota has not offered a remedy or recall.

Letter from senator on behalf of constituent. Re difficulties with her 2005 toyota matrix.the consumer stated the brakes were defective due to the rotor getting caught in the brake pad. The problem continued after the second brake repair.the brakes made an audible squeaking noise when depressed. There was a loud noise every time the vehicle was started and the gears were engaged. The abs did not work on an irregular surface. A defective rear axle caused damage to the tires. The lights would go out by themselves when it was dark.

Clock has been fading in & out mostly out since purchased.

I have been told by several people that after i start my 2005 matrix xr up at night and begin to drive away that my tail lights do not come on for approximately 30 seconds.i have noticed a delay in some of the dash lights coming on, but was unaware of the tail light situation until it was brought to my attention.this happens each time that the car is started.i have not taken it to a dealer to have it checked out.

When he contacted the manufacturer, they told him basically the same hing.the consumer statedhe believed that the area problem was a design flaw.

Ecm failure on 2005 toyota matrix. Caused lurching, acceleration changes during automatic gear shifting., causing unsafe driving by driver. Dealer said vehicle out of warrantyand mileage too high (80,500) for them to replace at their cost.

Toyota matrix 2005 model purchased on oct 2004 and exported to canada on feb 2009, about 42k miles. Ecm problem. While the car is in motion, the engine check light turned on and kept on after then. The car "jerks" from time to time while moving. Sent to dealer, diagnosed as ecm problem, which is a manufacture defect.

Car turns off while i'm driving and will not turn on right away, check engine light turns on and off, there's a lag when it is switching gears, feels very forced.

While driving the car stalls. Mainly the issue appears to happen when turning. Suddenly, and only occasionally, the car dies while turning. All lights are lost and power steering gives out. Since the lights on the car and the power steering give out, it is a scary issue. We have to put the car in neutral (since we're driving) and restart the engine. Back in 2010 we brought our car in for the 2010 recall where they replaced the part, although we never had a stalling issue then. Our car is still at the dealership being looked at but we were told by toyota corporate that this isn't an issue related to the 2010 stalling recall, so it would not be covered even if the same part that was replaced during the recall is the one that needs to be replaced again. Additionally, the dealership is having trouble identifying the cause of the issue.

My car died while i was driving on a saturday. I called the dealership and told them, they confirmed it was due to the recall on the ecm [1zz-fe], yet i had to pay to have the car towed in. They said they would run test to confirm that was the problem then fix it. 3 hours later they called and said that changing the computer part that was recalled could fix the problem, but they didn't have any - i asked for a loner car since it was not my fault i would be without a car, they said they were not responsible for that. They would do an emergency order and the part would be in on tuesday - they would call me in the morning. On tuesday they didn't call i had to call, i had to call multiple times to reach anyone, and they didn't have the part, it was back-ordered and could be up to a few weeks. I again pushed for a loner car, they said they would see if they could authorize it and call me in the morning. In the morning they had somehow managed to find a part, put it in, i was then told that the fuel system needed to be replaced. My car was in perfect condition before this, there is no way the fuel system miraculously went bad at the exact same time that the recalled part went out - it had to be caused by the computer failure. Besides that i was told that the computer part was the only thing wrong with my car. Then they tried to overcharge my by $600 for the fuel system, all the while still not giving me a loner car. In summary my car died on my in the middle of the road, i had to pay for my towing, miss hours of work, be careless for 6 days and pay for a new fuel system all thanks to the recalled part. I should not have to pay for the parts that were damaged by the recall problems.

The contact owns a 2005 toyota matrix.the contact was driving 55 mph when the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact was able to pull over to the side of the road and the vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer. The dealer was unable to determine the cause of the failure yet the engine was replaced.the failure did not recur. The failure mileage was 114,300.

The manufacturer agreed to further inspect the vehicle and advised that there possibly could be more failures within the vehicle other that the transmission. The contact was awaiting a response from the dealer and manufacturer to determine the cause of failure. The failure and current mileage was 275,000.

Dt*:the contact stated while accelerating from a stop, the vehicle stalled intermittently.the vehicle restarted each time.the dealership was unable to duplicate the problem.the vehicle is a 2005 toyota matrix.updated 12/26/2006 - the consumer felt that the cruise control was not working properly but the dealer indicated that it was working as designed.the consumer noticed a long crank time while attempting to start the vehicle.the consumer noticed a vibration in the steering wheel.the consumer indicated that the vehicle needed a new engine mount to alleviate the vibration.

I purchased my 2005 toyota matrix 5/7/05. 1 week after i purchased my vehicle i experienced a intermittent starting problem. Even after 4 attempts by toyota to fix the problem it is still current. It usually happens more often when the engine is warm. It usually cranks 5-10 seconds before starting. Sometimes the vehicle will not start at all and i have to turn the key back and retry to start the vehicle. The dealership where i purchased the vehicle claims they cannot get the problem to duplicate when they have the vehicle in their possession but when i last had my car there the car took about 7 seconds to start and the service manager claims that is normal for the matrix engine to crank. I find this hard to believe with a brand new vehicle.

The contact owns a 2005 toyota matrix. The contact started the ignition and the engine failed to start. The failure recurred intermittently. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who stated to the contact that the malfunction was related to the ecm, which would need to be replaced. The vehicle was being repaired at the dealer. The manufacturer was notified of the defect. The approximate failure mileage was 80,000.

The contact was unable to have the vehicle repaired under the recall due to a lack or available parts. The contact stated that he had been attempting to have the vehicle repaired for over four months to no avail.the dealer informed the contact that only two engine control modules were delivered per month meaning only two vehicles per month could be repaired under the recall. The contact had not called the manufacturer. The contact stated that the failure was a serious safety issue that could cause a crash and he no longer felt safe driving the vehicle. The failure mileage was 83,200.

Iwas halted in the left turn lane of a 6 lane highway behind another car also waiting to turn. My car(1,600 miles) was idling in drive. Suddenly the engine began racing and by virtually standing on the brake i prevented forward movement and after a few seconds i slipped it into neutral. When i did that, the engine seemed to race all the more - virtually screaming. I finally thought to turn the ignition off. The car promptly restarted and the problem did not recur again. The potential for a serious accident from this problem is huge.

Started car to go to work and engine caught fire. Fire dept came and put the fire out but the fire burned the engine and burned into the driver side of the car burning through the floor board and dash.

Took car to dealership in july, 2006, because the a/c was blowing hot, a check engine light had come on, and it wasn't always starting, and/or sputtering while driving.they replaced the fuel pump, a new a/c control switch, and a sensor in the engine because the check engine light would not go off and they could find nothing else wrong.repairs occurred over a two week period with me having to returnthe car to the same dealership for service for the same three complaints a total of three times- a/c blowing hot, check engine light on, and sputtering when driving/hesitation when starting. I also have a fourth complaint of a popping noise in the engine which to date has never been resolved. I also had a 30k mile service done at this time.problems began to reoccur the first week of october 2006, and i made another appointment with a different dealership.took the car in, they had the car for three days and could not duplicate any of the problems i was complaining about.i was dissatisfied by the lack of service both on the car and customer related.picked the car up with no diagnosis or repairs having been made.within four days, the car began acting up again and shut down completely on the florida turnpike resulting in a tow 35 miles back to my house and then another 15 or so miles to the dealership.determined the problem to be "engine sludge" and as it stands right now i am being told that the entire engine needs to be replaced at my expense.my problem has not reached a final resolution/decision with toyota but i am disgusted beyond belief about the entire experience.

Dt:the clutch was difficult to depress/to engage the starter. The consumer stated that there was a problem when trying to work the clutch because there was not enough room in the floor area ,and the wheel well made a hump in this area.also, the vehicle wasdesigned with a foot rest that the consumer had removed because it made it more difficult to drive.on several different occasions the vehiclestalled.twice it put the consumer in dangerous situation although, there were no accidents.the first time was in august 2004.the second time was in septemberor october 2004.when the consumer took vehicle to a dealerthey basically told him they could not find thestalling problem. When he contacted the manufacturer, they told him basically the same hing.the consumer statedhe believed that the area problem was a design flaw.

The contact owned a 2005 toyota matrix. The contact stated that while driving at speeds of 65 mph, the vehicle accelerated without warning. The vehicle decreased in speed as the contact removed his foot from the accelerator pedal. The dealer could not duplicate the failure. The contact confirmed that the vehicle had been taken to the dealer on nine separate occasions with concerns of unintended acceleration. The dealer could not determine the cause of failure. The vehicle was left in possession of the dealer. The contact would not drive the vehicle any longer due to concerns for his safety while operating the vehicle.the approximate failure mileage was 25,000 and the current mileage was 25,000. Updated 5/12/10 the consumer stated when the speed was set at 55 mph, the speed would fluctuate from 51 mph uphill to 59-60 mph downhill.when starting from a stop, the engine would either stall or spin the wheels.at times, the engine would not respond when trying to increase speed. During very cold winter days, the engine would stumble and at times buck like a bronco with the gas pedal to the floor until the engine was warmed up.updated 06/18/10

Ecm failure on 2005 toyota matrix. Caused lurching, acceleration changes during automatic gear shifting., causing unsafe driving by driver. Dealer said vehicle out of warrantyand mileage too high (80,500) for them to replace at their cost.

The contact owns a 2005 toyota matrix.while driving approximately 65 mph on normal road conditions, pressure was applied to the accelerator pedal followed by harsh shifting and excessive vibration.the check engine warning indicator illuminated intermittently on the instrument panel.the vehicle has not been repaired.the contact is in the process of notifying the manufacturer.the failure and current mileages were 82,000.

We own a 2005 toyota matrix awd xr with a factory installed moon roof.it has been to the dealer 2 times for a rattle in the roof.1st diagnosis:found roof support to be slightly loose due to lack of spot weld, bent lip of support down and applied foam to all points of contact.2nd diagnosis:support braces are lacking insulation and sealer, causing them to be noisy over bumps.vehicle is back from the 2nd repair and still has the rattle noise.we are concerned that the roof supports not being correct in the manufacturing process may make the car less structurally sound now or in the future as the insulation wears down.the service manager said this lack of insulation a problem they have been seeing in the cars.

The manufacturer stereo which is a 5 disc changer cd player, does not work properly.the stereo will not accept cds.when i had it looked at by an independent repair serviceman, he informed me that the cd player had the limit of 5 cds in it.the cd player does not recognize that they are in there but will not accept any either.i found a matching stereo from an individual owner to replace my non-working one.when the professional installer tested it, we had the exact same problem with the second stereo.i have contacted toyota by phone twice, by email once, taken it to a dealer once, and contacted the bbb.i have since replaced it.the dealer said that they could not repair it.toyota will not replace it.

1)i took my 05 toyota matrix into the dealership for a 60,000 mile check up.i had purchased the 100,000 mile warranty when the vehicle was bought.i was billed $700.00, and took the vehicle home.2)i took the vehicle on the interstat to work and noticed a very bad 'shimmy', and the vehicle drifted to the left. A definite alignment problem.i was very upset at spending $700, to have the vehicle returned is worse condition than when i took it in. For the check up. I took the vehicle back to the dealership.they told me they "adjusted" the alignment, and returned the car to me.i took the vehicle on the interstate and found i had the same problems.i took the vehicle back the next day to the dealership.the delership told me that 'centering rings' were not put on the rims installed on the vehicle. I had centering rings put on the vehicle, and took it back to the dealership for the problems to be fixed.they returned the vehicle the next day.i took the vehicle on the intersate and found i had the same problems. I returned the vehicle the next day.i informed the dealership that i went on-line and found others who have had the same problems.it was suggested that a 'shim kit'could help.the delalership told me i had the 'wrong' tires on the vehicle, although they were virtually new. They said i needed "directional" tires.i purchased and installed new directional tires.i took the vehicle back to the dealership.the dealership installed a shim kit, which helped but did not solve the problems.they told me that they did all they could do.they did not list the shim kit on their repair paperwork for the vehicle.i had no problem with the vehicle before taking it in for the checkup.this is evidently a manufacturing defect, which a 'quick fix' was done at the timeof manufacture.it did not eliminate the problem. It only "hid" the problem.my vehicle still has a shimmy and alignment problems.

2005 toyota matrix xrs(6 speed manual)...have had problems where the tail lights do not come on right away at night...this problem seems to be linked to the light(s) around fan switches...dashboard is lit up and headlights are on...a clicking noise is heard as the lights come on....so far it has only happened at initial start up and drive..the longest it has taken to come on is after about a city block of driving...so far the dealer can find nothing wrong.

2005 toyota matrix xrs with manual 6 spd transmission.sometimes when i release throttle when shifting or at a stop sign the throttle mechanism locks up solid as if i could almost break it when attempting to increase throttle from no throttle position. I coasted from 65mph to 40mph with traffic bearing down from behind one time. I thought the cables were binding but bought a new one to replace with but the cable looks good and in my driveway could not simulate or detect the cause of sticking. I called toyota service rep in san bernardino, ca and he said "we are going to charge you if we look at it" the throttle locked up again on the 8th of this month at the stop sign when exiting the freeway.

Check engine light came one. Went to local toyota dealership. Diagnostic trouble code p0441 p0455.dealer charged me $490.00 after $200.00 rebate.replaced: cap assy. Fuel tank, pipe sub.assy. Fu, valve assy. Vacuum. I never got recall notice. Tab should be pick up by toyota .

Common intermittent starting problem with engine. When engine is warm it takes longer for it to start, approximately 5 seconds. Toyota corp said that they are aware of this issue but have no plans to remedy the situation.

My car had big noise come from underneath, i hadthe dealer check andthe dealfind the fuel tank fell down from the car because metal strip which hold it was broken. The problem show up when i have normal driving.

I pulled into my parking lot at work and all of a sudden i heard this "load" noise coming from underneath my car.i had my car towed to my dealer and found out that one of the straps holding up my gas tank had broke, according to the dealer.my concern was if i was driving on our thruway and the gas tank fell off!i believe an accident of some sort would of occurred.thank you!

Car has intermittent trouble starting when it is warm.had is about 3 weeks and once it finally started after 5th attempt. Usually have to start it two times before it stays running.luckily i have road side assitance with vehicle.

Transmission went out in 2005 toyota matrix.

After reaching 94,000 miles mark like what some other toyota matrix owners experienced, there was a harsh in the transmission when you shift to reverse and the check engine light is on.

The differential and both rear wheel bearing failed at 99,823, the axial boots failed earlier at 92,55 miles.total cost was $4,240.car was driven into repair shop making loud noises.

Car moves forward smoothly but doesn't move in reverse gear.

I went to the dealer a month ago reporting a loud noise coming from the engine area when in gear. Toyota dealer claimed nothing was wrong. Yesterday transmission gave up.

I was driving to work one morning and i heard a loud grinding and whining sound coming from what sounded like the engine. I came to a red light and got out to see if i could see anything out of the ordinary but saw nothing. I then got back in and put it in gear to go and nothing i would let out the clutch and it wouldn't move. I tried to put it in reverse to move it out of the street and when i would let off the clutch it would pop out of gear it wouldn't stay in reverse. I had to get it towed and found out that it was my transmission. I did some research and found many people with the same problem.evidently toyota made a bad design with the 5 speed transmission and one of the bearings dose not get lubricated and burns out falling apart and ruining the entire transmission. Toyota claims that they know nothing about this and will not fix this.

Our car has developed very harsh shift of the gears and has a check engine light. Went to car shop and they said it was error code p2716 and a known problem but only covered upto 80000 miles or 96 months. Our vehicle is 2005 with 94,000 miles. The ecm needs to be replaced - cost ~ 900 $ - our complaint is that since this is a mechanical problem with the vehicle itself and not the driver, we should not need to pay for this and should be replaced by toyota - please help us.

Dt: the contact stated that transmission mad e a thumping noise when approaching a stop.he suspectedit was the sound of the transmission changing gears.also, there wa s vibration that followedthe noise.this was an intermittent problem. He took the vehicle to a dealer.the dealer could not determine what was causing the noise.no repairs have been made at this time. Updated 09/16/09 updated 09/17/09.

Took my car for check engine light, harsh shifting into reverse. I was told the ecm needed replacing. The ecm was replaced but the problems persist. When shifting into reverse the car lunges into gear after a few seconds. I am afraid of backing into someone in the parking lot.

2005 matrix xrs, 6 speed manual. Clutch began to go at 35,000 miles, completely burned out at 37,000 miles with a horrid burning/sulfur smell. Also, sunroof will not close all the way, stays open at the front about 1/2". It will open from there, but will not close properly. Nothing is stuck or in the way, just won't close. I am replacing my clutch on monday for$900.00, and the mechanic i am seeing just replaced a clutch on the same make/model/year/trim as my car. I've also seen various other complaints about this same issue. Clutch is defective.

Dt*:the contact stated while driving 65 mph on the interstate, there was a loss of all vehicle power, and the engine stalled without warning.the contact maneuvered the vehicle to the side of the road.the engine could not be restarted, and the vehicle was towed to a dealer who determined the clutch of the manual transmission failed, and needed to be replaced.after the initial replacement, the problem later persisted.the vehicle was inspected by a dealer who determined the clutch assembly needed to be replaced again.the manufacturer was alerted.

Clutch started slipping just before 30000 miles.dealer said within normal operation.clutch now at 33000 miles and needs replacement.dealer refuses to replace, stating normal wear and tear.i feel the clutch is defective and the dealer won't acknowledge it.i have 18 years of experiencedriving manual transmissions and i don't abuse a clutch.

Clutch-was always very hard to put car into first and from first into second. After one year, took it into dealer, was told okay. After second year, took it into dealer, told floor mat too thick. Took floor mat out, same problem. At third year, could not get power (didn't 'catch') in first and second gear. Told clutch failed, my fault (driving standards for 25 years), now quoted $1,760.

Clutch failure in 2005 toyota matrix xrs w/6 speed manual transmission.failure occurred at 21,300 miles, and was accompanied by burning smell detectable in the car while driving at highway speed.toyota refused to accept any responsibility for the failure.toyota district manager refused to contact me to discuss the issue.

2005 toyota matrix xrs clutch is weak and fails much sooner than expected.

The contact owns a 2005 toyota matrix. The contact stated that the clutch pedal was obstructed by the carpet and foot rest which made if difficult to shift gears. There also was not enough space between the foot and brake pedal. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated that there was nothing wrong with the vehicle. The contact has experienced the failure since the vehicle was purchased in 2004. The failure mileage was 102,000.

My 2005 toyota matrix 4wd started to making whining noise at 69000 miles. Took the car to nearby mechanic and found that the rear differential unit needs to be replaced. The differential fluid was fully-replaced at 50,000 miles and the car has been properly maintained accordingly by manufacturers guidance.the cost is more than $ 1500 to replace rear differential. . for any car equipped with awd system should never have this issue and i fee that it's very unsafe to drive.

The car is a 2005 toyota matrix,5 speed manual transmission, the car is serviced by a tech at scheduled service times.the transmission locked up and needed to be replaced, the mechanic said there were rebuilds available but stated the toyota replacement was the way to go, i agree.toyota says there are no transmission problems however if you look on line one will see a rash of 5 speed toyota matrix transmission problems with a bearing always being blamed, i cannot believe this many people beat there 5 speeds to death in a 4 door station wagon.also noted was toyota had 15 transmission waiting when mine was ordered-- perhapsthey know something about the transmission problem.no one will say if the new transmission has being improved over the old unit, because that would mean there was a problem to start with.thanks to toyota i have a car with a transmission that may have the same problem it started with at a cost of 3,400.00 more.

Re: toyota seat belt extender policy complaint. The consumer stated that passengers can not ride inthe vehicle because it does not have seat belt extenders and the person(s)would need to come to the dealership in person to be measured for the seat belt extenders.*tc

The rear seat passenger-side and driver-side restraints are poorly designed and as such, they do not provide any lateral security near the doors for small passengers. My six year old daughter of average size usually falls below the shoulder restraint when she falls asleep. When she awakes and lifts her torso, the shoulder restraint often ends up behind her torso!this renders the shoulder restraint completely ineffective in preventing injury to the upper torso or head in any significant collision.her head ends up resting on the door and this is potentially deadly in a side-impact crash.

Both rear seat belts lock up when in use. The individual sitting at either seat using the belt is unable to move due to a locked belt. You can not lean or move forward or in any direction. You must release the belt latch in order to be able to move or lean forward.

I encountered a flat tire. I pulled the tire off and placed the spare on. The brake drum came off the car and remained housed in the wheel well. After placing the spare on, i drove about 30 miles to my mechanic with no brake drum. I encountered extensive damage to my break system. The vehicle was stationary when changing the tire and in motion when brake system damage was done.

The contact owns a 2005 toyota matrix. While driving 55 mph, the air bag warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the air bag sensor failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact also stated that while driving approximately 55 mph and depressing the brake pedal, the brakes failed causing the vehicle to drive into an intersection. The vehicle was taken to a dealer who was unable to duplicate the failure but replaced the master brake cylinder however the failures persisted. The recall notice for nhtsa campaign number: 15v285000 (air bags) was received in august 2015. After contacting the dealer on multiple occasions, the contact was informed that the parts needed to repair the vehicle were still not available and no estimated time for receiving the parts could be given. The failure mileage was 100,000.

2005 toyota matrix, when brakes are applied for panic stop while air conditioner running, car will not stop quickly and rolls into objects. This is second accident with the vehicle doing this.

The contact owns a 2005 toyota matrix xr. The contact stated that the vehicle accelerated and the brake pedal extended to the floor. He took the vehicle to the dealer and they replaced the rotors and the pads numerous times; however, they have continued to fail. The brakes do not function properly in cold weather. The vehicle was taken to the dealer numerous times and they were unable to diagnose or duplicate the failure. The toyota manufacturer was never called. The failure mileage was 29,700.

My wife bought a new 2005 toyota matrix on july 24, 2004.five days later, with only about 85 miles on the odometer, the brake pedal went all the way to the floor as she was at a stop light.what was worse, she was on a hill and the car started rolling backwards.we took it back to the dealer that day and they found that the actuator had failed and was leaking.we don't mind waiting for the spare part to come in and everything is under 100% warranty.however, the 2004 corolla they gave her as a loaner, with about 1,200 miles on it, also had the same failure on july 30th.we returned that car today also.

Steering component problems have led to excessive cupping/tire wear on 2005 toyota matrix (29,000 miles). Have complained about steering issues since purchase (original owner) and was always told there was no problem.dealer acknowledges problems - sometimes - but cannot find issue and resolve.i feel this is a significant safety issue.

Failure of retention system for front right inner fender/shield.there is only one retention point at front (on bumper).when fails, shield/inner fender behind front bumper drags on ground.hole for retention pin has only about 1/4 inch of material to rear of hole - the plastic splits.did not split in response to hitting anything - car was sitting in driveway when failed.when took to dealer (still under warranty), offered choice of cable tie repair (free) or replacement of entire inner fender assembly ($211).chose cable tie, although dealer also left rope repair i had installed to hold until getting to dealer.dealer indicated rope should stay - hardly a real repair.left side failed previously - had to personally replace retention pieces.dealer service rep indicated that they see a number of matrix xr and xrs models with same problem, due to ground effects installed on those models.seems to strongly imply a design defect.

I was driving and discovered the a/c in my brand new 2005 toyota (still under warranty) matrix was blowing warm air instead of cold.i took it to a toyota dealership.after looking over the vehicle, the dealership gave me a diagnosis and repair price.the dealership diagnosis was "a rock had bounced up into the engine and penetrated the condenser"dealership informed my part and labor wasn't covered by my warranty.i pointed out it was a design flaw because no protection (i.e. Shield) to the a/c condenser.file complaint with toyota of torrance ca and given a case number.dealership continues to say warranty doesn't cover the repairs.i pointed out the lack of protection and design flaw.

I have to replace tires due to them wearing on the outside that the tire companies say is not a consequence of the tires but rather my car.

Request to the government:please look into suspension problems in the 2005 toyota matrix and similar toyotas that cause irregular and premature tire wear, including "cupping" which could lead to unexpected tire failure and which cause owners to be required to replace tires prematurely.i experienced this problem, first noticed by loud, unexpected tire noise.i had to replace 4 tires at 30,000 miles, far earlier than ever in my 50 years of driving experience.a dealer unofficially admitted there is a problem with matrix suspension.the internet has many angry owners describing the problem (under t. Matrix tire problems, and similar).toyota never admitted the problem was faulty design, but in light of recent events, this clear fault should also be investigated.this is a defect that may have contributed to dangerous events at worst and extra expense commonly.thanks

05my toyota matrix - irregular wear of tires possibly due to front shocks.brand new tires don't last more than a few years on these vehicles.there are numerous complaints on the internet yet toyota has not issued a tsb for this issue.it's not that the tires have lots of tread wear, but they wear unusually and lead to vibration - even after they are maintained and balanced.additionally, i recently replaced my 4 tires that had unusual and irregular wear.with this wear, the vehicle steering wheel shakes significantly above 50mph.please look into this complaint for a possible safety recall.front shocks should be covered up to 80k since most of the 05's are almost out of warranty.again tread wear is still good, but it's the way that the tires wear that is the issue.

New 2005 toyota matrix chewed up the factory (continental conti-touring) tires in short order (caused "cupping"). Dealer said there was nothing they could do - it was my problem and not a problem with matrix and we'd have to buy new tires. Complained several times after that but was blown off each time. My research now shows that this is a known problem on this model, that toyota even has a shim and adjustment kit available but continues to deny it to customers and refuses to issue a recall.

Vehicle tire wear on matrix xrs (2005). No matter what brand of tires, even with regular rotation and balancing/alignments, the tires wear from the inside out with severe cupping. I've had to replace my tires every 20k miles (i now have 130k miles on the car in just 4 years, i need tires to last!). Each of the mechanics i've spoken to say there is nothing they can do and just to keep rotating them and that it is a problem in assembly at the factory level. I am fed up and will not be buying another toyota.

I have to replace tires due to them wearing on the outside that the tire companies say is not a consequence of the tires but rather my car.

I own a 2005 toyota matrix that was bought new. It now has 120,000 miles on it. I am in the process of searching for my fourth set of tires for it. Twice, i had the stock continental brand and both times they had to be replaced, at my expense, at approximately 30,000 miles; sometimes less. An internet search reveals hundreds of similar complaints regarding tires for this model.

Excessive tire wear has forced us to buy multiple new tires on our 2005 toyota matrix.

My toyota matrix (2005) has a terrible alignment problem, that causes premature wear on the tires.

Excessive tire wear has forced us to buy multiple new tires on our 2005 toyota matrix.

Continental tires were all cupped at 15,000 milesdealer replaced all tires with different brandnew tires cupped again at 20,000+ milesdealer claims nothing is wrong with car.

On july 17, 2013, my car has made several incidents of engine shutting off either at intersectons, or while in motion. Good thing it does start back up but the check engine light was on. I took it to a local auto shop and it was diagnose as code to replace the thermostat and gasket coolant sensor. Two weeks later, engine shut-off again while driving several times. Return it back to the local auto shop and had them look at it again. They found no other problems. However, they informed me to take it to the toyota dealership, as the ecm may be at fault.on july 31, 2013, took the car to the dealership for service and after several hours, they informed me it was a faulty battery.! my battery is only three years old and i know its not the battery, after telling them to check the ecm. They wouldn't proceed until i buy a battery from them! on 8/30/13, took my car to another auto shop for the same problem and explained "the engine turns off while driving" issue again. They diagnose as carbon buildup and did a throttle body cleaning.now its 9/6/13, and problem of engine stalling still persists!. One day, the engine shuts off three times while driving. Subsequently, toyota has another second recall on lexus and rav4 models this week. The ecm was recalled and replaced on my car on 8/31/11.can the ecm be faulty again! or other parts causing the problem be undiagnosed in light oftoyota manufacture recalls.symptoms: odometer light flickers and engine eventually shuts off.

Driver enters a small parking lot in san diego.driver pulls up slowly to one of five perpendiculars stalls in the lot.as he is pressing brakes, the vehicle takes off, hits the concrete stop and then a frame wall a few feet after the stop.there is some damage to the bumper but none to the engine or radiator.driver hits the steering wheel.airbags do not go off.wall is damaged.driver puts the vehicle in reverse to pull back.the car takes off and lounges backwards, jumps the curb from the parking lot to the street, and starts moving backwards at high speed, smoking its front tires and doing a "donut" where the front wheels (this is a front wheel drive) are spinning and the vehicle is circling backwards.finally at high speeds, the vehicle travels and slams backwards into a toyota pickup truck stopped at the red light and stops.the backend damage is extensive and the rear left wheel is out of alignment. Vehicle is declared a total.this is a case of sudden unintended acceleration.

The odometer on my 2005 toyota matrix will not advance past 299,999 miles. I have checked on line and have discovered that this is a known issue with the matrix. I contacted toyota and was referred to my dealer. I worked with the general manager who said that he had recently seen a prius with the same issue. The general manager told me that toyota is aware of this issue and that whoever designed/engineered the odometer arbitrary decided to stop the odometer reading at 299,999. This is a significant issue for the following reasons: 1. I am unable to determine the normal service intervals for the vehicle. This includes: a. Intervals for oil changes b. Other services such as other fluid changes, etc can not be tracked or determined when they are due.c. Intervals for tire rotation.i. My tires have a warranty that is pro-rated on mileage. That warranty is no longer of use to me in that i can not provide the correct mileage.ii. The dealer that i purchased the tires from offers free rotation but i can no longer access that service in that the mileage does not advance past the 299,999 mark.2. My state requires that the mileage be stated when a car is sold. I can no longer give that information accurately. 3. According to the general manager of my dealer, if i were to trade in this matrix, i would have the trade in value decreased because i could not provide an accurate odometer reading. 4. If the vehicle is damaged in an accident, law enforcement and my insurance company can not determine the correct mileage.it is obvious that my car is the only one with this issue, as stated above. There should be no reason for this odometer to stop at 299,999. This is purely a design/engineering decision, not a worn out part.i request that your agency investigate this issue.

2005 toyota matrix.consumer states unintended acceleration. *tgwthe consumer stated as he was approaching a red traffic signal to a local shopping center, the vehicle started to accelerate. Since he was nearing a red light, he already had his foot on the brake pedal.the consumer stated it was obvious something was wrong, so he immediately placed the transmission in neutral. The rpm of thevehicle's tachometer raced between 3,000 and 4,000.when the traffic light turned green, he placed the gear in drive, kept his foot firmly on the brake and maneuvered the vehicle into the parking lot and into a parking space. He placed the gear into park, but the engine continued to rev between 3,000 and 4,000. He kicked the accelerator pedal in an attempt to possibly lower the rpm, but to no avail.the consumer turned off the engine, exited the vehicle and proceeded to inspect the accelerator pedal area for possible signs of obstruction on the floor, in the carpet area or on the floor map. There was none. He opened the hood of the car and looked in the engine compartment for possible signs of debris, but there was none. The consumer stated it is obvious there is an electronic/computer glitch and not a problem with a sticking gas pedal.

2005 toyota matrix inexplicably accelerated resulting in driver and car crashing into grocery store and hitting a gas utility line.car was completely totaled with no deaths.

While driving my 2005 toyota matrix with 40,000 miles, i was pulling into a parking space, car was not even going 1 mile an hour, had taken my foot off of the gas pedal, did not even have a chance to put my foot on the brakes, when the car suddenly accelerated, made a noise, jumped the curb and smashed into a building.the car had $3,000 worth in damages leaving a crack in the brick wall of the building causing structural damage.the sudden, unintended acceleration had nothing to do with the floor mat.nothing has been done to correct the failure as toyota would not address the issue at all, saying that the matrix was not part of the recall.toyota has not accommodated me at all with this incident.i am terrified when i drive now that it will happen again, not to mention the worth of the car because of the accident.due to this i am looking for another vehicle.

My wife experience an acceleration of our 2005 toyota matrix about 3 years ago.we did not think much of it at the time, but with the current recalls we thought it would be included. It was not, toyota will not look at it or replace it.they said it must be done at our own expense.i filed a complaint with toyota, the case number is 1003113923.i feel that toyota is not looking further in more problems, and is still not addressing the issues at hand.the dealer or customer service did not really care.

Driving at highway speed (60 mph) in wet conditions on interstate 5 just north of seattle.suddenly, the sunroof exploded outward.no impact was noted.we have a rooftop box which covers most of the sunroof further reducing the likelihood of an impact directly on the sunroof glass.

2005 toyota matrix - passenger side front automatic window failure; window was out of alignment and stuck in a position that was not all the way closed (or open). The window regulator (which was bent out of shape) and small motor was removed by owner and the window is now permanently in closed position. This sounds very similar to the problem leading to the recall of 2003 and 2004 models.

We've lost 7 hubcaps from our matrix. They've flown off while driving, with potential to cause an accident.

I have a 2005 toyota matrix xr with 16" alloy wheels. I hit a cobblestone sized rock in the rock with the left rear wheel at about 50 mph. The tire lost pressure because the alloy wheel split in half like a bagel sliced down the middle. Toyota would not fix this as a warranty item indicating there was no evidence of a manufacturing defect. However, none of the service personnel had ever seen a wheel split in half. I've contacted toyota's customer experience center and reported the incident but they also indicate this is not a warranty issue and referred me to the dealer customer relations manager who gives the same explanation. I believe there may be a defect in these alloy wheels but have found no other reports of such damage on the nhtsa site. I want to make sure this incident is documented in case these wheels are found to be defective.
