While driving onto an exit ramp i applied my brakes to my 2019 toyota highlander but the engine just roared up, took my foot off the brake and applied both feet to the brakes and the engine roared up again, i then came up right behind a car at the intersection and the front end collision did not stop me so i survived to the left lane but then i was headed into the highway and was t-boned by another toyota highlander and came to a stop on the right side of the highway. All the air bags deployed in the other suv but none deployed in mine. The fireman had to use the jaws of life to get me out of the suv. My wife and i were very shook up but had no serious injuries. But my brakes, the front-end collision, and the airbags all failed in the toyota. My highlander was totaled bymy insurance company but theywill not investigate the failures.
The contact owns a 2019 toyota highlander. The contact stated that upon entering an intersection, the contact attempted to apply the brakes but missed the pedal. The contact ended up rolling into the intersection and was hit by two vehicles on both sides. The contact stated that the air bags did not deploy upon impact. A police report was not filed. One of the other drivers had claimed to have injured her hand but did not receive an medical attention at the scene. No other injuries were reported. The contact was able to drive the vehicle to his home after the accident. The contact had taken the vehicle to a collision center and was given an estimate of $18,700.00 for the repair. The manufacturer had not been notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 500. The vin was invalid.
The contact owns a 2019 toyota highlander. The contact stated while driving at 40 mph, she rear ended a vehicle in front but the air bags failed to deploy. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was towed to a collision center for cosmetic repairs. A police report was filed and there were no injuries reported. The dealer was not notified and the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 18,000.
Vehicle was in motion and collided with another vehicle in a t fashion, was pushed to the left and ran into additional 2 poles, then stopped. The vehicle was at approximate speed of 40-45 mph at the time of collision with the other vehicle. The airbags of the vehicle (toyota) did not deploy during any of the collision events: the other vehicle or when it hit the poles.
The contact owns a 2019 toyota highlander. While driving 50 mph, the vehicle shook uncontrollably without warning. The contact stated that the air bag warning indicator also illuminated. The contact took the vehicle to hamer toyota (11041 sepulveda blvd, mission hills, ca 91345), but the cause of the failure could not be determined. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 10,000.
Driving on highway on left side was heavy snowfall and truck with trailer on right side suddenly moved to cross the highway from right lane to left lane hit my car pushed me in concrete barrier car rolled over 2 times.*dt*total lost car structure damaged air bag not deployed i request toyota to do inspection and they get information from black box still waiting response.*dt
Other car pulled into intersection causing our highlander to collide with turning vehicle. T collision. None of the airbags deployed. Speeds around 35 mph. Car totaled and i sustained severe concussion. Was wearing seatbelt.
The entire voice guidance system is inoperative on my one week old 2019 highlander hybrid platinum. No audible voice or beeps with navigation assist, no phone assist,, no eyes-free assist, no driver announce to rear cabin voice, no entertainment system voice assist. This is a safety hazard eliminating hands free driving, and no navigation guidance. I was on unfamiliar roads in the dark of night, alone, unable to operate necessary equipment which proved to be unreliable.i just learned that this issue has been known to toyota for several months, yet new vehicles are driven away from dealerships by unsuspecting new owners after paying good money for a defective vehicle. Deceitful, unethical, and unsafe! where is the recall for this issue? why are vehicles not fixed before being sold as new?
The contact leased a 2019 toyota highlander. The contact stated that while driving slow and attempting to park in a parking space, the entire instrument panel flashed along with a chime. There was a loud noise coming from the engine while the vehicle propelled forward. The brake pedal was depressed to stop the vehicle however the vehicle continued over a curb and crashed into a pole where it came to a stop. The vehicle was powered off in order for the vehicle speed to stop. No air bags deployed. There were no injuries reported. A police report was filed and the vehicle was driven to the residence. The local millennium toyota dealer (257 n franklin st, hempstead, ny 11550) was called where it was suggested to have the vehicle towed and that they would follow up once the vehicle was in their possession. The vehicle was towed the dealer but no call was received so the contact called and left a voicemail. The manufacturer was then called and made aware of the failure. The contact was also informed by the manufacturer that paper work was needed to have the vehicle inspected and that the black box was to be inspected which could take a week for the results and a month for a solution. The contact received nhtsa campaign number: 20v012000(fuel system, gasoline) however the recall remedy was not available. The failure mileage was 6,000.
Vehicle will slip into drive without the hybrid system engaging, allowing vehicle to roll without brakes or steering.
While driving in a city warnings on instrument panel came on: "hybrid system failed", "all wheel drive failed", "take car to the dealer", and the car stopped.had to have it towed to the dealer.following day the dealer called me to say that everything in the car checked out ok and they couldn't duplicate the problem, i'm now very weary of taking the car on a trip because i don't know when it may quit again.the car just turned 10k miles.
The voice commands for the vehicle do not work which requires the driver to look at the navigation screen or scroll through their phone book rather than using the bluetooth features. This is very distracting and illegal in some states which require hands free phone.
2019 highlander xle loses power, unable to accelerate, & jerks and stalls in traffic.bought at 200 miles, certified preowned. It is a nightmare vehicle.accelerator has been touchy and jumpy at times, intermittently at slow speeds. First time it stalled it started to lose power put -put and chug like jerking and all dash and electrical on dash went out, unable to accelerate, then stalled out in road, unable to steer or control vehicle. This occurrence was after a longer period of driving. Second time it stalled out began to lose power, putter and chug, unable to accelerate applying gas pedal, getting no gas, vehicle dies out, unable to steer or control vehicle. This occurrence was after a longer period of driving. Third time was yesterday 8-8-19. Left work and about 5-7 minutes into my drive, started hesitating, losing all dash and electrical power and will not accelerate when gas pedal applied, then stalls out, unable to control the steering wheel again! almost got hit this time, man behind me coming fast and had to swerve into lane over to miss me. This car is going to kill me or someone by causing an accident if they do not get it fixed right. After the second stall it was towed into dealership and they were not sure but said fuel pressure was reading 22 and was supposed to be in the mid to high 50's. They replaced the fuel pump and it drove ok for a little while but i noticed the average fuel mileage going down from an approx in city 19.1--20 to 17.1-17.3. Has never been so low so obviously the stalling and the replacing or the fuel pump are not the real issue. Fuel economy going down since replacement of the fuel pump and now another dangerous stalling issue. Car is at toyota dealer now. They need to dive much deeper & resolve this very dangerous safety issue! i bought this car to feel safe and have reliable transportation and have neither. It really scares me. *dt
The voice guidance systemwas inoperative.ibought it as a pre-certified 2019 highlander from a toyota dealer with 16k miles.at the time it was working the stopped working.after 3wks i found out that i have to push the start button2x with the engine off to get it to work.toyota has know about this for 2 years but no one includijng support told me about it!will there be any recalls?it is too late to take it back!i will have to do this each time i use this feature.
I bought this car new with about 11 mile on it.the transmission immediately had shifting issues as it could not decide what forward gear to go into and shifted hard and felt as if it was going into two gears at one time and after a short drive the instrument cluster warning display indicated a check engine light and warning that the transmission was overheating and acted as if the engine was starving of fuel as it surged and did not deliver power to go beyond 35 mph.after i bought it the dealer reassured me at least three times that the car was okay and that this is the way that the transmission shifts. I repeatedly had the dealer check it and the dealer reassured me that there was no trouble code and no problems found although the check engine light was on and the instrument cluster showed transmission overheating and they fixed a wiring connector to try and fix the running problem.a class action suit came out for the fuel pump failure recall and the 8 speed transmission.i feel that this is a very common problem that the dealer and manufacture are trying to hide. After 13 months and 2,800 total miles the transmission overheated, burned up the internal clutch set and i now have no forward and reverse gears.i feel that the surging and transmission problems are a software defect as the shifting defect comes and goes and vastly promoted if i drive it very gently from a cold start.once warmed up it does not act up as often except when two gears seem to be engaged at the same time.the key also intermittently does not allow the car to start and instrument cluster also shows trac light , abs failure light, bsm not available, smart key failure, and complete black out of the instrument cluster and shown to the dealer mechanic and service writers and photographed and videotaped for documentation and in the repair orders.
Vehicle intermittently chugs and stalls at low speeds. Which results in poor fuel mileage. Vehicle has also stalled 3 other occasions without chugging and not in motion, all 3 times was while at a stop light or while attempting to turn. Looses power without engine mil light dealership indicated the hybrid system has overheated 4 times with no ability to duplicate. Vehicle also has had the stereo flip through numerous screens without being touched.at one point when it stalled the vehicle stated ' hybrid system inactive ,park safely', but it was in an intersection. Luckily it restarted and was able to move before an accident occurred.
The computer/radio automatically shuts itself off and then reboots. It has done this too many times to count. It does this randomly and unexpectedly. It becomes dangerous because i live in a state where i am not allowed to hold a phone while driving, so when i don't have wireless phone capability it is very disruptive. It is also dangerous and inconvenient when it happens when i'm using navigation in an unfamiliar place, i am left stranded. There have been times when it continues to reboot continuously during my trip to or from someplace. I have been to the dealership 5 times to have my computer reset/rebooted and the problem still occurs. The second time i took it, the technician left the service ticket open so that each time i took it after that they were putting the "repair" under the same ticket so that it only showed as 1 repair! i now know of at least 5 other people having the exact same problem between toyota highlanders and toyota 4 runners. My vehicle has been both stationary and in motion while the automatic shutoff of the computer system occurred. Of course the dealership always says my computer never shuts off while my vehicle is there, even though it does it when i drive off the lot, so i recorded video of the radio/computer shutting off while i was driving and showed it to them. I would hate for the problem to escalate or become more dangerous.
In navigation, it will not give voice directions which is a safety hazard causing you to look at the screen and taking your eyes off the road.i told toyota about this but no fix.this is dangerous and needs to be fixed immediately.this occurs when stationary or moving.this happens every time you try to use navigation.
The contact owns a 2019 toyota highlander. When the contact pushed the ignition start button, the vehicle failed to start. The failure occurred multiple times. The vehicle was taken to oxmoor toyota (located at 8003 shelbyville rd, louisville, ky 40222, (502) 565-0086) to be diagnosed, but the failure could not be duplicated. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 3,300.
2019 toyota highlander hybrid. Today exactly one year from purchase it stalled on a busy public roadway for the 4th time.with the 4 incidents in june, july, & sept 2020, the car, without warning 1."powered down" almost immediately to a dangerous slow point with no acceleration in response to pressing gas pedal in the following locations:a high traffic major urban bridge(40mph); interstate highway(75mph); coming into busy city intersection(5 -10mph); country highway (45mph)2.power steering was slow and difficult.3.master warning light activated. Audible tone/constant beeping activated. "hybrid system malfunction.,pull over to safety, call dealer, check engine, pcs" , and multiple other warnings.4.within moments the car completely died (before i could seek legal and/or safe parking.) safe parking required multiple attempts.in july (illinois) the car required towing off very busy interstate highway.assessed as "no issues".within one hour a mini-series of sputtering, choking, stallings in city intersection, dealership then kept our vehicle overnight. More lengthy diagnostics "threw" fuel codes.bad gasoline?today car should have been towed but toyota roadside assistance denied my vin & phone# existed in their database. Home dealership confirms i am, without doubt, in database.duringhour+wait for assistance, dash cleared of all warnings w/ ignition. Home dealership advised driving to closest dealership.5 miles.my car currently sits in a missouri toy. Dealership w/ fuel pump suspect.i was told repairs could take up to a week. 97 fuel pumps currently back ordered in parts system.20,500 miles/all service plan requirements met promptly. I have all inspection forms/service receipts. No ability to upload documents now but would like to be contacted by nhtsa for more information and to share service documents.
The contact owns a 2019 toyota highlander. The contact stated that while driving at undisclosed speeds, the check engine warning light illuminated and the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who was unable to duplicate the failure. The failure recurred several times. Toyota of culver city located at 9077 washington blvd, culver city ca, 90232, was notified of the failure. The contact was informed that the vin was included in nhtsa campaign number: 20v012000 (fuel system, gasoline). The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 85,000.
We started the vehicle that is parked in front of our house at around 8am to get some groceries.the vehicle started and everything seemed normal.shifted to d and started moving and as i was leaving the spot, i pushed the break to make a left turn and it won't stop.pushed the break pad several times and the car won't stop.finally moved the gear to p and it stopped and the engine turned off.i started the engine again and tried to reverse it, it won't reverse and only going forward.i called autonation toyota of leesburg, they towed the vehicle.the vehicle was purchased on 11/30/19 with only 45 miles in it.it was a frightening because my neighbor was putting something to his car and i was about to run at him.
I used the hands free device when talking on the phone while driving, view incoming email mail, the navigation system on the highway. I incurred this problem for several months since purchasing the vehicle in february 2019.on thursday, november 21, 2019 i had another appointment with dick dyer toyota in columbia, sc due to my audio seems to have a shortage in it. The audio system keeps turning off. An employee at dick dyer toyota said that my applexs max cellular phone is the problem. The male could not tell me when toyota company updated their electric software. He also mentioned that numerous highlander owners have incurred the some problems. Later that afternoon, i called toyota customer service in california and explained to a female customer representation about the audio electric shortage in a 2019 vehicle. Veronica said there is a problem with their software which is a 12.1 version which is not compatible to apple current software version 13.2.3. I explained to her about hand free states and their laws. She mentioned that they were working to fix the problem but have not time frame when the problem will be fix. I have complained three previous times about the audio. Case number - 1911212727
First incident occurred in dec 2019 and then again in jan 2020. While driving engine lost power and vehicle began lurching forward and back uncontrollably. After pulling over engine shut down. Thankfully we did not cause an accident. Check engine light came on, also said reduced engine power and traction control off. First time dealer said it was bad gas. Second time they tested fuel pump and it was producing 5 psi. Way below 50-60 psi norm. Now our vehicle is parked waiting for toyota to develop a fix for their fuel pump. No idea how long that will take. Our car is part of the almost 700,000 toyota recalled. Toyota used to mean quality, not sure any more.
May 31 i was picking my passengers as diving to uber driver. I parked my vehicle step out to open back door to open my 3rd row seat but door didn't able to open and same minutes i heard voice beep coming out from front steering wheel. I turned around went to see what this voice is about.. Before i touched anything my vehicle start to rolled backwards and i got so scared and i tried to hold the steering wheels from outside to stop vehicle somehow but it went so fast dragged me over 100 feets throws me on the street and went out on 2 homes property over the bushes and hit the railing guards on one home . I called police on the spot where they asked my passengers as well what was happened and they stated what i just wrote here. Ambulance came put bandages on my ripped left knee and told me to call them if i needed them later on. I had called toyota company and they came took my vehicle to hackensack toyota to took some information and after 4 weeks sent me letter saying nothing wrong with this vehicle at all .... I'm shocked after heard the vehicle had no problem so why it rolled in parking position ripped my knees put me into stress and police report my 4 witnesses all was a lie or toyotas playing some big games around me so they dont have to do biggest recall on brand new vehicles ? i'm trying to let you guys know this is something big going on so please help me out with this situation as soon as possible.
The contact owns a 2019 toyota highlander. The contact stated that the check engine and traction control warning lights illuminated with a message referring the contact to have the vehicle taken to the nearest dealer to be repaired. The vehicle was taken to kings toyota (4700 fields ertel rd, cincinnati, oh 45249) to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the failure was different from the previous failure the vehicle had experienced in which the spark plugs were replaced. The technician removed the spark plugs and the coil packs and relocated another cylinder. The vehicle was repaired. The contact stated that the failure recurred three times and was taken to the same dealer and was informed that 20 percent of alcohol was found in the fuel instead of the recommended 10 percent in the fuel mixture. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle was included in nhtsa campaign number: 20v012000 (fuel system, gasoline). The failure mileage was approximately 14,000.
Me and my family were leaving a hotel in tarrytown ny. I parked the car: toyota highlander 2019 outside, helped my wife and 21-month baby into the back seat and had to put something in the trunk but it was locked. In that moment the car was in park with the engine running; the ground was not steep at all: 5-10 degrees the most. I took out the key from ignition to go open the trunk with the button from the remote. Suddenly the car started rolling backwards with my wife and kid in the back seat. There was a slope few feet away from where i parked and the angle became about 40 degrees and it picked up speed quickly. I rushed in (drivers door was lucky open and flapping around), at the last moment was able to press the break but we still hit another car with people inside. I am the only one with visual scars and bruises on my left leg from trying to climb in the car, but my wife felt pain in her lower back the day after the crash. There were witnesses and most likely a camera, since it was by the front entrance of a major hotel. From reading and researching on this matter i suspect it is a defect in the parking pawl (the piece inside the transmission that holds the car in park). This is an absolute manufacturers defect. I saw here on the nhtsa website that a personfrom nj filed a complaint about the exact same matter with the same car: toyota highlander 2019 (nhtsa id number: 11245263), just a month ago so this is definitely not an isolated case. Please take action. This vehicle should be recalled asap before someone gets seriously injured or worse!
Lack of responsiveness in acceleration from a stop; sluggish response to pressing the accelerator when accelerating from a stop or while moving and attempting to pass slower moving vehicles; have nearly caused an accident more than once when turning/pulling out into traffic with plenty of space but unable to accelerate correctly. Also uneven shifting; transmission jerks when shifting gears.
I own a 2019 toyota highlander, it has stalled several times during busy commute to or from work. I am so scared to drive this vehicle, that i refuse to drive it to any destination longer than 50 miles. I need this car replaced, i have three young children, and i paying for an unsafe, unreliable car. I would like for toyota to replace this vehicle.
Fuel pump stops working while driving on highway at high speeds, vehicle rides rough intermittently then shuts down. Vehicle will not start up again.
2019 highlander purchased 12/2019. I guess i am lucky, mine has not stalledyet.very poor throttleresponse. Taken to autio nationtoyotaft myers 3 times including having a regional rep there. He claims mine is operating within factory specs. Supposedly mine is not a partof the fuel pump issue.not that it matters toyota says the parts are not available.factory rep says mine has 41 computers. What could possibly go wrong?yeh right look at this web site and see the similar complaints across the total toyota line including lexus. Warning if you have the lane departure feature(lda) be extra carefu. If the lda activates and yours is one with the lack of throttle response, it may end up moving you into another lane or off the roadway.it has happened to me. Acccelrater shifted wat down and almost put me in another lane. Luckily no other vehicles present how many body bags will it take to force the feds to act? oh i forgot. They are needed else where.toyota winsy more like a thunderstorm. If you bother to scan this fed web site you will see all thall i know is to the car bucks, fails to respond to normal acceleration, or over downshifts. So far i haven't taken out any other vhicle ,person, or me.if your vehicle is equipped with the lane departure feature (lda)watch out if you trying to accelerate, mine lda activated, and almost put me in another lane. Luckly there wasn't another another car there.read all the similarcomplaints on this federal website covering allmodels of the toyota brand (lexus included)with the 8 speed transmission and see nothing is being done by toyota or the feds.i wonder if the feds need a body bag count to take action.oh i forgotthe bags are needed else where and toyota will win.

My vehicle has been rumbling and the check engine light on. A dealer turned it off via reset, but the car is still acting up. We just got a notice from toyota that the vehicle is at risk of stalling unexpectedly and with no remedy for over a month.

The contact leases a 2019 toyota highlander. While driving, the engine stalled without warning and the steering wheel seized. The contact coasted the vehicle over to the side of the road and powered off the engine. The vehicle was restarted and was able to drive normally; however, the failure recurred twice. The vehicle was taken to page toyota (21262 telegraph rd, southfield, mi 48033, (248) 352-8580) where it was diagnosed, but the technician could not find a failure code. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and provided case number: 1910282286. The failure mileage was approximately 4,000.
I received a recall alert early in the year.there is not yet a fix for the low-pressure fuel pump.ihave driven the car only a few miles since the notice and the description of the possible failure.i drive i-68 in maryland, much of it with 3 lanes and all up and down mountains.a failure on this highway would be very serious, quite likely fatal.a failure would mean that the car would stall and not restart.speed limit is 70mph--life-threatening if the car were to be in the center lane going uphill.the car would have to be drifted backward downhill to remove it from the roadway.this is the end of april.this is an unacceptably long time to be without safe use of the car.i expect monetary compensation as well as extended warranty for lost months of inconvenience, fear and lost usage of the vehicle.we were offered an alternate smaller car which would be inadequate for our needs.accepting the substitute would require that we turn our car over to the dealer where it would sit on a lot exposed to the elements.this is unacceptable.if the dealer would provide a satisfactory substitute, our stipulation would be that the toyota highlander remain at our home where it is garaged.
When accelerating from a stop, the car abruptly lost power and it felt like the engine was going to stall out completely, but then the car started accelerating again.this happened three time today.in two cases i was needing to accelerate briskly as i was either crossing, or entering onto, a busy street with fast traffic.in two cases (in both cases i was making a right turn from a stop) the red exclamation point warning sign appeared briefly on the dash board upper screen.on the third occasion (i was accelerating straight ahead from a stop), a red written message appeared on the center dash board screen, but it disappeared before i could read it.
While driving, the vehicle had a slight lag when i applied gas then started beeping and provided the warnings: check engine, hybrid system malfunction, pre-collision system malfunction, check awd system. I turned the car off multiple times, the errors were still on the car the next morning when i started the car to take it to the service appt.when i got to the dealership i turned the car off to check it in, when i came back the error was gone.they checked out the car they said there was nothing wrong with it and thought it was just 'ambient conditions'.two weeks later, i was driving and i had the same lag in power then the same alarms and started driving toward the dealership (about 3 miles away) and the hybrid system and power steering shut down in the middle of the road leaving me with no power.i turned the vehicle off and back on and the errors were still there and it shut down again another half mile down the road.it is at the dealership again.the vehicle has 10,800 miles and should not be having these significant issues.i was driving in the city during all these events.
Although my car was new (only 11 months old) and less than 5000 miles, it had shut down completely while i was pulling out of a parking lot. I had to get it towed to the nearest toyota dealership overnight. They told me it was my faulty fuel pump and that they had never seen that happen to such a new car before. Currently i have my check engine light on (my car has less than 6200 miles on it) and it only goes away when i put in a full tank of gas. After i drive about 2 miles, the check engine light turns on again. I am terrified my car engine will just die once i'm on the road, or worse, the freeway. I am unable to drive this car without that fear. Please see culver city toyota records for proof of my fuel pump problem and engine dying. They also have record of my towing to that dealership the next day on sept 1, 2020.
Stopped at a stop light and when it turned green pushed on the gas pedal.the entire car jerked and didn't have any power to go through the intersection.the rpm gage began jumping as the car rolled.i rolled on through the intersection, was almost hit.had no steering ability.lights and alarms began going off.message board said traction control turned off.then check engine.then visit dealer.then the car died at the edge of the intersection and we pushed it off the highway onto a county road.it will not start at all.acts like it isn't getting any gas.this is the 3 incident with this car doing this.we have towed it twice to the dealership.they replaced a valve in the engine.they said it was stuck.apparently that wasn't what is wrong with it.glad this wasn't on the interstate.we could have been killed.
Driving under "normal" weather conditions when the check engine light warning along with the hybrid maintenance warning light. The car stalled while trying to safely pull to the side of the road. The vehicle was towed to the nearest toyota dealership. They confirmed fuel pressure codes p0087, p107b, p3190. I was told toyota has not issued any updates for this problem. So i am stuck with a car that isn't safe to drive, especially long distances.

Received notice of recall more than 60 days ago, nhtsa no.20v-682"low pressure fuel pump may stall vehicle and cause crash" called both my dealership and toyota with response of: "no date for remedy" i have travel planned and this 2019 highlander should not be on the road for fear of crash. Why no positiveresult yet?
My 2019 highlander (se v6 with only 490 miles) started having high idle rpm issues at about 300 miles. At stop signs/red lights you really have to keep your foot on the brake pedal. The vehicle lurches forward when releasing the brake pedal. Let off the brake, the vehicle takes off (same thing in reverse) making driving it unsafe and dangerous. Pulling into our garage is not fun. I should note that this high rpm issue happens whether the start stop is activated or not activated. To make matters worst, driving on snow covered roads is a real problem when braking at red lights, stop signs and slowing to make turns. Most of my driving is on city streets. I will be taking the suv to my toyota dealer in endicott, ny to get this dangerous issue resolved before i get into an accident. The highlander was built 11/19 and i have owned it for a few weeks. I hope other toyota highlander owners don't have the problem because it makes the vehicles very unsafe and difficult to drive.
Vehicle will slip into drive without the hybrid system engaging, allowing vehicle to roll without brakes or steering.
Rear humming/buzzing sound when vehicle is turned off.
With 300miles on highlander started to experience issues in driving and drop in performance. Performance was very significant especially noticeable in mpg. At scenarios when the car would not drive up the hill but rev to max and start rolling back with 'clicking' noise. Toyota was send to service many times after to multiple toyota dealerships but they did not have any diagnosis. At 15k miles on the car driving on highway (70mph) the highlander lost power and started loud noise. When pulled over found oil smell and smoke from engine. During examination found 3 cylinder went loose. During that time one of them came off the side and hit the transmission. Almost a full month the highlander was rebuilt but no final word what had happened by toyota corp. The car is about 17k miles and started to act the same way. As a family we are afraid to drive the car especially my pregnant wife with children. I am afraid this may happen again and can lock up all wheels and can result in massive accident. Toyota is not taking this as serious and seems to me they do not care. As of right now the highlander has problems with alignment, lane assist, and lack of power. Please see pictures.
Twice my vehicle has died in traffic. Fortunately i was on surface streets and not a freeway. Both times i had to physically push it into a parking lot.
My vehicle was not part of the fuel pump recall like the other 3.3m vehicles from toyota.however, my vehicle exhibited the exact same symptoms as those cars and stranded me on the side of the road twice. This included pushing on the accelerator and getting no response from the car followed by numerous system warning lights including hybrid system malfunction, front collision system failure, and check engine light.initially, the dealership could not find anything wrong when i first brought it to them.the second time it happened, i was able to bring the car in with the check engine light still on so they were able to diagnose it and are currently replacing the fuel pump.my car (and many others) should have been included in this recall, this is a huge safety issue as this had me stranded on the side of very busy highways twice plus not being able to accelerate in traffic.
When driving in the darkness my headlights are not giving me enough lightning so i can see clearly. I just purchased toyota highlander le on 10-10-2020
A month ago, we were driving on the highway through snow showers up to nh to go skiing, with our nifty adaptive cruise control on, when i realized that we were accelerating into the car in front of us. I assumed that the front sensor was covered in slush, took off the cruise control and drove manually. Only about 5 minutes later did the dashboard alert notify me that the front sensor wasn't working.brought it into the dealer. They couldn't find anything wrong. Here's the problem: the car says "trust me. If you use my cool safety systems, i'll keep you from hitting the car in front of you...and should something disable the sensor that carries out this function, i'll let you know, so that you won't depend on me." but that's not true. And, a driver who assumed that the car was keeping its promise, as it does most all the time--might not have realized that it wasn't until they hit the car in front of them.

Driving on a two lane road following a car in front of me. Cruise is on and the car in front of me is not affecting my speed. The car in front of me turns left into their driveway and is completely off the roadway. My car brakes very hard like there is something in front of me. Their was no on coming trafiic. I've have had this happen again but the other car was turning right. The car was completely off the roadway and again my car starts braking very hard. I was almost rear ended by the car behind me.
Problems: 1) check engine light lit up. 2) "hybrid system malfunction" warning on heads-up display. 3) "pre-collision system failure" warning on heads-up display. 4) gasoline engine stalls after an intentional deceleration and is unable to come back up to speed.first event: on july 4th, my wife and i were driving on an interstate highway. We entered an exit ramp interchange to merge onto another highway and when trying to accelerate the car suddenly became sluggish, and gave messages for problems 1), 2), and 4) stated above. Problem 3) did not occur during this event. Messages stated to pull over in a safe location. We parked on the shoulder and immediately shut the car off, waited 5 minutes and then started the car again. We were able to drive to the next off-ramp to a city street (about 100 yards) before the engine started becoming sluggish again and lurching, error messages remained throughout the event. Obd codes stated simply "faulty engine" on a car with 16,000 miles. Dealership was unable to find a cause, but did find a code for ignition failure. They checked some things but did not do any repairs, and were unable to replicate the issue as it seemed to have cleared. Diagnosis was "vapor-lock" and no explanation for why.second event: on august 6th, my wife was driving the vehicle to visit family, when pulling onto an exit ramp, was unable to accelerate again afterwards. All the same warnings popped up, but this time also had problem 3). Engine stalled when warnings appeared and did the same sluggish lurching. After pulling off in a safe area, shut the car off and tried to restart 4 times, warning did not clear. Gasoline engine does not operate when pedal is pressed. Shut the car down for 2 hours and tried to restart afterwards, warnings still present, engine now runs when pedal is pressed, but stalls when idle. Shutdown for another hour while waiting for a tow, warnings still present, still stalls when idle. Waiting on callback from dealership.

I bought this toyota highlander xle awd a month ago and was never told there was a recall outstanding. I am told there is no fix after 4 months and they don't know when there will be one. This car can stop suddenly at high speed and is now a death trap for me. This is unacceptable and very dangerous. What is being done about this????
2019 highlander xle jerks and stalls, then loses power. This occured on a newly purchased vehicle that has approximately 13k miles on it, in stop and go traffic on a sub-urban street. No check engine light or other alert came on, providing no indication to the driver of the issue. Was able to restart the vehicle and drive it to the dealership. They said it was a fuel pressure issue, and are replacing the fuel pump - a part that usually lasts more than 200,000 miles. I have no idea whether this is a fuel pump issue, or a fuel regulation issue, and if those functions are both performed by the fuel pump. The dealer did not seem to be aware of the issue, and there are no related recalls for this issue. They did find one other instance of this occurring when they researched it. I'd like to know for certain whether this is a fuel pump issue, or a fuel regulation issue. This presented a very dangerous situation, and i was lucky to be able to get off the road.

Toyata issued a recall for a faulty low pressure fuel pump in may but has not replaced it in my car.
On two different occasions, 07/17/2020 and 07/29/2020, my vehicle cut off/stalled after i have accelerated from a stop light. After ireached the speed of about 15 mph and then for no apparent reason the engine shut off for 3-4 seconds while my foot was still depressed on the accelerator. Then just as sudden, the engines power comes back on and jerks all passengers back in their seats.i never touched the brake during both occurrences.the both times it happened i was on a multi lane city street.the issue here is that by my vehicle stopping suddenly without applying the brake my brake tail lights will not warn the driver behind me, and he may if he is not paying attention rear end my vehicle. This happened on two
Thge recall does not have a fix. It is dangerous and driving this vehicle greatly increases the risk of a crash.it has been in this condition for quite some time, i am afraid to use my 2019 toyota highlande. Toyota cannot provide a date for a "fix" they need to buy my car back. Apprently this condition was on going since i bought the vehicle.however, was not discovered until several months ago.
There has been no accident however i am still waiting for the recall to be remedied in a timely manner recall was apparent jan 13,2020 there is a potential for loss of life if my vehicle should be operating at a high legal speed limit and suddenly stop because of an inadequate fuel pump. This delayis not acceptable. I purchased a brand new auto and it should be fully operational as i rely on it to get me to and from work and daily life activities.
While driving approximately 70mph on an interstate, lost ability to accelerate. Car started to slow down, forcing us to stop. Very fortunate no one was behind us or we would have been rear-ended. Multiple warning lights came on at this point, including the check engine light, awd malfunction, pre-collision system malfunction and hybrid system malfunction. Contacted toyota dealership immediately and slowly drove the car to dealership. Upon inspection, was told that the fuel pump failed. Was also told that the problem is a recall issue for other toyota models but not for the hylander. Car is now at dealership being repaired.
There has been a recall issued on this vehicle from 13 jan 2020. There is no remedy yet. The issue has to do with the fuel pump malfunctioning, which can lead to loss of power and increased risk of accidents. Having been in a vehicle before with loss of power in rush hour traffic, i'm unlikely to walk away from the same type of malfunctionif it were to happen again. I can't drive my vehicle with any confidence it will be safe. It's been 2 months and no remedy is yet available. This is ridiculous.
Vehicle is slow to respond and/or has intermittent performance when accelerating or moving from complete stop.there is lag time in the vehicle's response to driver acceleration which makes it challenging to enter (from roadway or driveway) oncoming traffic or merge into interstate/freeway traffic.the delay in the responsiveness and inconsistent performance causes driver to need extra time and distance when entering the flow of traffic.the front end also becomes jumpy and enters with a skid/pull force causing the need to steer into the vehicle and course-correct.vehicle also does not accelerate well out of a right-hand turn on 90deg turns and lags to acceleration past apex. This particular vehicle was purchased 07/25/2020 with 4,278 miles.toyota issued a recall for low-pressure fuel pump in 01/2020 and added this model to the recall list in 10/2020.an interim safety recall notice stating the vehicle could stall while driving increasing the risk of a crash, particularly at high speeds.as of 02/15/2021, toyota has not issued a remedy to this safety recall which has been open, in total, for more than a year.as a driver who relies on freeway travel in arizona, this is disturbing and the additional erratic performance in-town during normal traffic is equally unsettling.this vehicle is still being used in normal conditions due to the owner being in an essential industry during the pandemic, but recreational driving is being limited due to the open and unresolved safety recall issued by toyota.i also contacted my service writer at toyota before receiving the letter, shortly after purchasing the vehicle to ask if the acceleration delays and inconsistency were normal in this vehicle because the driver experience is subpar to what should be expected with a new, low-mile xle vehicle.
Vehicle had a prolonged hesitation when trying to accelerate into moving traffic while ramping onto the interstate.after the hesitation the vehicle then surgedinto traffic.
Fuel pump recall -car stutter or hesiatates while at a red light. Dealer giving me the run around. The problem is intermitten
We purchased this vehicle new in may, 2019.within a few weeks, we noticed a problem with it stalling out momentarily when turning at intersections or idling at lights.within 4-5 seconds, you could feel it finally pick up fuel and go.it gives you a very scary feeling to think you can't keep moving along with the traffic, especially when our grandchildren are in the back seat.we returned the vehicle to the dealer and was told there was a recall for the fuel pump and we would need to leave it there for repair.they put us in a rental dodge durango, which is fine, but that's not the vehicle we wanted when we purchased our highlander.this was over a month ago and when we contact the service department are just told that there is still no fix in sight.we think it's been long enough for something to have been done.our warranty is expiring while it sets on the dealer's lot in the hot florida sunshine.it was always garaged while in our care.
Manufacturer reports that vehicle may stall and not restart leaving driver stranded .
Dealer notified me of a fuel problem in january and still not fix by end of june--car stalls and runs badly at low speeds or stopped at light.
Severe hesitation when gas is applied, especially when crossing heavy traffic and instant power/quick acceleration needed. Also noted when going around corners, after car has slowed down below 5 mph to make the corner. Gas is applied with hesitation. Noted more when car is at a complete stand still/moving at slow speed then gas applied to move forward. Car does not move/react instantly. I notice this problem on a weekly (at least) basis.
The contact owns a 2019 toyota highlander.the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 20v012000 (fuel system, gasoline) however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact stated that lexus of tacoma at fife located at (1708 40th ave ct e, fife, wa 98424), exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.
I was driving my car on a major intersection.the light turned green and i proceeded to make a left turn onto a major street.as i made it onto the street a warning came up that said "hybrid system malfunction" and my car immediately started decelerating even though i had the gas pushed.i was able to sway to the right into a parking lot and stop the car before it stopped.my daughter was in the back seat at the time when the car failed and since we were in the middle of accelerating to get onto the major street when the car started decelerating, the cars behind me had to hit brakes/change lanes. I had the car towed to the closest toyota dealership.they diagnosed it as a failed fuel pump.i looked up the issue and saw that toyota had a recall on fuel pumps.i told them i wanted the improved fuel pump replacement.they informed me that my car was a toyota highlander hybrid and my fuel pump was different than the recalled toyota highlander fuel pump and was not on recall.they replaced the failed fuel pump with the same product and assured me that the car was safe to drive and my fuel pump just failed and was not on recall.
Takata recall. The contact owns a 2019 toyota highlander. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 20v012000 (fuel system, gasoline) however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, there was an abnormal sound coming from the vehicle, happened at a parking lot. The vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was taken to peterson toyota (9101 w fairview ave, boise, id 83704 35816), however, the mechanic was unable to duplicate the failure. The dealer confirmed that the part needed for the recall repair was not available. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. Vin tool confirms parts not available. The failure mileage was 4,000.consumer stated manufacturer could not help and for the consumer to keep contacting the dealer. Rental car was offered.
In the morning of 6/15/2021 while driving the 2019 toyota highlander hybrid in 90+ degree heat on a busy denver suburb thoroughfare, the denso fuel pump failed causing multiple malfunction messages to be displayed and the engine to stall placing the suv and me in a very unsafe situation in traffic.the suv was partially in traffic because a curb prevented me from driving the vehicle out of traffic and the fail safe mode did not allow me to drive to a cross street to get the suv out of traffic.fortunately, a police squad arrived, parked behind me with emergency lights flashing until the tow truck arrived.the suv was taken to a nearby toyota dealer where toyota service personnel in conjunction with toyota engineering determined the denso fuel pump was the problem and was replaced.toyota has the denso fuel pump. Moments before the suv stalled multiple malfunction messages started being displayed including but not limited to: check engine light see dealer, pre-collision system malfunction, awd system malfunction, hybrid system malfunction, etc.
Fuel pump stops working while driving on highway at high speeds, vehicle rides rough intermittently then shuts down. Vehicle will not start up again.
Gas spilling after fuel pump recall***ever since fuel pump recall was done on 08/15/2020, the car is leaving me in a dangerous situation when i fill my gas tank in the gas station and it's spilling out gas even after the pump nozzle cuts off. This happened twice ( actually 3 times) and started only after this recall was done. Last night (9/6/2020) when i was filling gas in a gas station about 50 miles from home, it did sprayout/spilled a large amount of gas ( almost half gallon ) into the ground leaving me in an extremely dangerous situation. So i drove back to where i live and went into a sonoco to confirm the issue. This time the gas got spilled even after the pump nozzle cut off and stopped pumping. Almost a quarter gallon gas spilled out.when it happened for the first time on august 24th (08/24/2020) when i filled the gas for the first time after this recall i didn't quite realize what was going on and for sure it was my car. After filling the gas tank in the gas station i felt my shoes were sleepy and i could feel gas on the ground. Next day morningi started smelling gas and went to see the back of the car and i could see some drops. Apparently that was liquid gas dropping off being the tank still full.
*dt
Toyota issued a recall notice in january about possible fuel pumpproblems which if it failed could cause a crash. First indication was a fix would be available in march.as of today, no fix and no firm date when a fix will be available.i'm concerned about driving this highlander now this is going on 6 months with my vehiclesitting in my garage. Calls to dealers are futile since they haven't beenadvised by toyota.at this point i consider my highlander a lemon.
Severe hesitation when gas is applied, especially when crossing heavy traffic and instant power/quick acceleration needed.also noted when going around corners, after car has slowed down below 5 mph to make the corner. Gas is applied with hesitation. Noted more when car is at a complete stand still/moving at slow speed then gas applied to move forward. Car does not move/react instantly.
I have received a recall notice from toyota for a low pressure fuel pump issue which may stop the vehicle.if this happens the vehicle may stall while driving and could risk a crash.nothing has happened so far but we are afraid to drive the vehicle.we got this car for towing and toyota will not provide us with a comparable vehicle that will tow.the eta on the repair was to be about 6/1/2020 but toyota will not provide a firm date for repair. All of our summer vacation plans are on hold until we get this fixed.
Vehicle stalls out several times. Have taken it to dealership but no problem found. We were driving the vehicle made a turn onto a major street during rush hour. It stalled out, we just made it to the side of the road. Car finally gave out and did not start again. This is very dangerous due to poor power while driving and can endanger people in the car as well as surrounding vehicles.
Recall on the vehicle for fuel pump, and replacement is not yet available.toyota states the part will be available by end of february / early march. We have asked the dealer to allow us to return the vehicle but they will not because the current value is less than what is owed. We have asked toyota manufacturer to accept the vehicle as a return with no negative balance (we have already paid on this vehicle for 14 months). They state the problem will be repaired and the vehicle is safe to drive.the recall states the car can stop at any time at high rates of speed, with or without warning. Our vehicle has hesitation and that is one of the symptoms noted in the recall.we do not want to wait any longer for the vehicle to be repaired, and we do not want to continue to pay for a vehicle we do not feel safe driving. We have an arbitration meeting with toyota however, i was reading the warranty and it says to file a complaint with you.can you help us get this resolved in a timely manner?
Vehicle ran well for about 5 months but started hesitating, reduced throttle response and jumping forward once gas pedal depressed further.hesitation felt in steering wheel and transmission shifting irregular.nothing on computer diagnostics, therefore nothing wrong according to dealership. Happens while in motion.
My vehicle was under recall no. 20v-012 since march of this year. I called the toyota dealership at least twice to ask about it & was told there was no fix for it at the times i inquired. I was also told that i would be notified when a fix was available. I never received a notice.on 9/15/20 i was making a turn out of a parking lot onto a city street when the car began hesitating & made only halting movements. It would not accelerate beyond about 3-4 mph. The check engine warning light came on along with a low fuel pressure message& a message to take the car to a dealer. Fortunately, i was able to put on the hazard lights & slowly limp into another entrance to the parking lot. The car had to be towed to the dealership. The dealership notified me the following day that the problem was the faulty fuel pump that was under recall & they just happened to have the parts needed for repair. Great. Glad to have the vehicle fixed. My question is...why didn't i ever get a notice that a solution to the problem was available? it would have be nice to avoid the hazardous event that occurred. I hope that toyota will step up to the plate & notify other owners of this vehicle that they are able to have the repair done. Plus, 6 months to come up with a solution for a recall repair seems extraordinary long.
On 2 separate occasions, we have had issues with the car shutting down.the first time, we had to tow it to toyota at the dealerships advice. The second time was on the 465 around indianapolis when my wife had to slam on brakes to avoid a lastminute car stoppage and the car completely shut down for 6 minutes causing my wife and daughter to be in very unsafe conditions. In both cases, the dealerships told us that the tests showed the car had no full shut downs which is not accurate.i am reporting this because and i am nervous about my family's safety and others safety.
The contact owns a 2019 toyota highlander. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact was able to restart the vehicle and the vehicle operated as designed. Toyota of brookfield 20655 w capitol dr, brookfield, wi 53045, was contacted by phone and it was acknowledged that there was a defect within the vehicle. The contact was informed to return the vehicle to the dealer as soon as possible to be diagnosed. The contact became aware of nhtsa campaign number: 20v120000 (fuel system, gasoline) for which the vin was subjected. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 4,000. Vin tool confirms parts not available.
My vehicle has been rumbling and the check engine light on. A dealer turned it off via reset, but the car is still acting up. We just got a notice from toyota that the vehicle is at risk of stalling unexpectedly and with no remedy for over a month.
The vehicle was taken for service on 1/8/21 at toyota of scranton for rear suspension problems.they had replaced arm away, trailing. We called again for device in february 2021 for problems with the car. It was scheduled for service on march 20,2021, which toyota of scranton did not have the parts.in january 2021, toyota mentioned nothing of the pending fuel pump recall.we received no calls from toyota at any time for a recall.we became aware of the recall after we experienced problems with the car in february.toyota has still not resolved the full pump recall.
There was a recall for this vehicle on january 13, 2020. It is now april 26,2020 and there is no remedy for the issues which can result in a deadly crash. The vehicle may stall while driving and the steering wheel will lock. The vehicle is equipped with a low pressure fuel pump which may stop operating causing the vehicle to stall and be unable to be restarted. It is ridiculous and unacceptable that we purchased a brand new, supposedly safe car, that now is a death trap. Toyota has failed to provide a remedy for the defect within a reasonable time.
My vehicle has been on the recall list since january 2020, but toyota still has not issued me a notice to have the fuel pump replaced.they continue to say over the phone that they have no remedy available. This is outrageous. They should issue the notice so i can get the pump replaced before the trans on the highway. So far i have not had a malfunction.
I bought this 2019 highlander 2 months ago and the check engine light came on-the fuel injector was burnt up, replaced it, not even 24 hours later the car was pouring gas and check engine light back on..it barely has 30,000 miles on it. I will never buy a toyota again. We are stuck with this car and it's a ticking time bomb with an open recall we were not informed of that is very dangerous, it went into low engine power and stalled in the middle of a very busy street and almost caused me a wreck.
The contact owns a 2019 toyota highlander. The contact stated that while attempting to accelerate from a standing start the vehicle would suddenly accelerate and immediatelyhesitate before accelerating and operating as normal. The failure had occurred on 2 separate occasions. The contact indicated that the failure had occurred after the recall remedy was performed for the nhtsa recall campaign number 20v012000(fuel system). The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The dealer toyota of sarasota locate at 7435 tamiami trail sarasota fl. And the manufacturer were notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 30,078
Pulling out of a business parking lot (somewhat of an incline) onto busy street and vehicle stalled. Bad timing for this to happen.master caution light illuminated but not cel per wife who was driving. I think recent recall underway for fuel pump doesn't include my vin, but i am suspicious and am thinking it probably should. Vehicle started and returned home fine (10 miles) at approx 40-50mph.
I have a 2019 toyota highlander. A friend informed me of the recall that was identified back in january 2020 regarding the failing fuel pumps and risk of crash. Toyota never sent me a letter within the 60 days. I've been waiting on a solution ever since. On april 30 (today), i finally got a letter labeled "interim notice". The letter says they are working on a solution. I have five children and it is not right that we have to worry about ending up in a crash every time we drive it. I feel that i have been very patient with the situation. No solution after 4 months is completely unacceptable. Toyota should be held accountable and appropriately recompense owners in some manner in addition to replacing the defective part free of charge.
Fuel pump recall was apparently in effect when vehicle was purchased in february 2020. Dealer (riverview toyota, mesa az) scheduled service for the recall in october 2020. After dropping off the vehicle, asst service manager calls to inform me they don't have the part and don't know when it will be available.i drive my three granddaughters 5 days a week and i more than concerned that this issue still remains unresolved!
Received notice from toyota, vehicle may stall while driving increasing the risk of a crash..iam afraid to drive this on a highway, are they suppose to give you a loaner? no accidents yet
The contact owns a 2019 toyota highlander. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 20v012000 (fuel system, gasoline) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. An unknown dealer was contacted and confirmed the part was not available. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Vin tool confirms parts not available.
When slowing down and then trying to accelerate again there is a hesitation from when i push the gas pedal and when the car actually accelerates.it happens from a complete stop sometimes also.sometimes the car jerks when it does this.the passenger can feel it also
The contact owns a 2019 toyota highlander.the contact stated that while driving through a parking lot at 10 mph, the vehicle stalled as the check engine warning light flashed. The vehicle was taken to peterson toyota (9101 w fairview ave, boise, id 83704) where the mechanic was unable to duplicate the failure. The contact then received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 20v012000 (fuel system, gasoline) however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The same dealer was contacted and confirmed that the part was not available for the recall repair. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair.the manufacturer was made aware of the failure but could not do anything and told the consumer to work with the dealer. The failure mileage was unknown. Vin tool confirms parts not available. Consumer stated when backing out of the driveway car jerked and almost hit the another car behind him.
While driving on a city street in baltimore, md on vacation at about 35 mph having just cone around a blind curve my vehicle's engine shut off and would not restart, got multiple malfunctions on the display. We were almost rear ended multiple times due to the vehicle being in a lane of traffic for about an hour after it shut off. Had it towed to the dealer and was told that it was the fuel pump. The mechanic said that the non-hybrid had a recall but since we have a hybrid it only has a tsb so it is not covered by the recall 20v012000 even though it should be as the entire gasoline fuel system is the same. I looked up the recall information and the hazard described happened to me except we didn't crash.
The contact owns a 2019 toyota highlander.the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number:20v012000 (fuel system, gasoline) however, the parts to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact called the toyota of north charlotte dealer (located at 13429 statesville rd, huntersville, nc 28078) and it was confirmed that the parts were not available. The contact stated that the vehicle hesitated while driving and that the fuel consumption had increased. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue but would not confirm when the parts were to become available. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 26,000. Vin tool confirms parts not available.
The contact owns a 2019 toyota highlander. When the contact opened the tailgate, all of the other doors unlocked. The contact did not feel safe. The vehicle was driven to malloy toyota (400 weems ln, winchester, va 22601, (540) 678-1791) to be diagnosed, but the test only acknowledged that the driver's door unlocked and not the other doors. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and scheduled an appointment at malloy toyota; however, the dealer still could not replicate the failure. The failure mileage was 4,800.

When trying to coast to a stop at around 4 mph the car will slam to a stop.does not always do this but it's sometimes very hard to come to a smooth stop as the cars braking system (regenerative braking?) will kick in by itself.can be dangerous if a car is tailing very close to me as it will seem like i'm driving unpredictably.took the car to a dealer but they could not replicate the problem at the time.although the problem is intermittent it is more likely to do this when the car is still warming up.
The contact owns a 2019 toyota highlander. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle decelerated and jerked without warning. The vehicle was taken to new country toyota of clifton park (202 rte 146, mechanicville, ny 12118, (518) 670-4332) where it was diagnosed and test driven. The contact was informed that there was no fix for the tect tip which failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that no resolution was set for the issue however, an investigation was started. The failure mileage was approximately 13,000.
When i am driving at lower speeds, the transmission searches for the correct gear. It's very rough and at times has made driving unsafe. This happens all the time at lower speeds.
When slowing down and then trying to accelerate again there is a hesitation from when i push the gas pedal and when the car actually accelerates.it happens from a complete stop sometimes also.sometimes the car jerks when it does this.the passenger can feel it also
The right rear seatbelt (2nd row seat in vehicle with 3 rows) ripped from basic use from a child and had to be replaced by toyota. We brought the vehicle new from toyota sudbury, ma and owned approximately 1-year. In late december 2019, my child noticed the rear seatbelt was ripped. We took the vehicle to toyota wellesley, ma for warranty repair. Toyota refused to repair and stated the seatbelt was intentionally cut by us. Now why would we intentionally cut a seatbelt used by our children just to pay and have it repaired? since toyota refused to fix, and we required a seatbelt to transport our children immediately, we had to fix and pay toyota $429. Clearly we did not cut the seatbelt and the pictures clearly indicate it was not cut but it was ripped and frayed from use or defect. We want to report this defect matter as i believe it is a significant safety issue and one in which toyota did not even want to investigate. Needless to say, we will never buy another toyota vehicle since this is how they view significant safety issues. I kept the old seatbelt in case it is needed for testing.

While driving about 20mph, i was rear ended by someone going 55+mph. During the accident, my drivers seat reclined and the headrest broke.one post broke in half and the other side pulled out of the seat
The 2019 toyota highlander le second row headrests lack locking height adjustments! yes you have just read this correctly! they are not like the front row locking height increments. They do not lock when they are even pushed all the way down!the only height to lock them at is when the headrest is about 2' from the ceiling! not all people riding in the second row are 6'4' to use such an extended adjustment effectively.i have contacted toyota and the case # is 2001250569.whether the vehicle is stationary or moving, the headrests move up and down with even resting your had on the headrest, unless it is in the locked position by the ceiling. Note: the second row headrests do not have locking increments like the first row headrests.they are not safe for younger and/ or shorter people.such a design flaw can only compound neck/head injuries in the case of an accident.please help and do something about this dangerous situation! as no-one has sat back there in our car earlier, i was not aware of this, or i would never have even bought the vehicle.

Vehicle will slip into drive without the hybrid system engaging, allowing vehicle to roll without brakes or steering.
2019 toyotahighlanderxle.at 1230 mileseps failure warning light came on. The steering wheel will not turn. Vehicle was towed to toyotauniversein new jersey.recalibrated the computer.the next day the problemoccurred again. I was pulling out of my garage.when i put the vehicle in drive the warning displayed and steering wheel would not turn.
The ergonomic faulty design of the 2019 toyota highlander limited platinum causes excessive wind noise coming into the cabin when driving at any speed. It is distracting and annoying. I was told by toyota it was a design flaw which they have attempted in vain to correct with various minute triangular additions strategically added to points of concern. Again, it did not work!!
Other car pulled into intersection causing our highlander to collide with turning vehicle. T collision. None of the airbags deployed. Speeds around 35 mph. Car totaled and i sustained severe concussion. Was wearing seatbelt.
Obnoxious wind noise!!!dealer service mgr acknowledged it was loud but said all on his lot were loud, mine was much louder but told it was a design flaw. It is. Huge distraction while driving anything over 30 mph. It's literally wind noise not road noise. They will not even try to repair it ... Too bad you spent $50,000just live with it.
Sunroof spontaneously shattered while driving ~30pmh on a hot afternoon. No other cars in close proximity. No trees overhead or other debris found that could have triggered the shattering. The noise sounded like an explosion overhead. Upon inspection, the glass appears to have exploded outward and left a large hole in the middle. Luckily, the fabric panel below the glass was closed, otherwise this would have been an extremely dangerous situation since the glass is not safety glass. Per our toyota dealership, toyota corp will not cover this issue or take any responsibility for what seems to be a manufacturing defect (or bad design, as this glass should be safety glass).
Rear seat glass sunroof imploded while driving down a highway at 55 mph. The sunroof was not physically contacted by any objects. We heard what sounded like a firecracker/cherry bomb go off inside the vehicle. We pulled over and noted the damage to the sunroof. The interior cloth ceiling was left totally intact/undamaged.
04/07/21 @ 11:30 am, temp 47 f, overcast, dry, driving 65 mph, n. On neb. Hiway # 77.rural landscape, no other vehicles near us, sunroof glass exploded and shattered.roof had been closed.sunshade was closed which kept us from being covered in glass pieces.no marks on roof from any object.see photos.
The contact owns a 2019 toyota highlander. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, a rattling noise was present coming from the rear of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer conicelli toyota located at 860 baltimore pike, springfield, pa 19064, however, the mechanic was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 5,000.
Loud win noise while driving on a freeway, i made sure all the windows and sun roof are properly close, it is very bothering.
Jbl navigation system does not provide voice guidance and has resulted in several near-miss accidents as the driver is forced to glance at the display.this is an ongoing problem with toyota and jbl sound system and the dealers say they are aware of the safety problem but have to wait for a software update.this has gone on over 1 year so a software update is not coming.purchased vehicle in july 2019 and have taken to toyota dealers in 3 different cities all with no advice to solve the problem.they say there is a bulletin on this safety issue and a manual workaround but no permanent fix.
Rear humming/buzzing sound when vehicle is turned off.
Ever since we purchasedour highlander the navigation turn by turn voice works some times and most of the time it does not work. We thought we just did not set it up correctly. While driving to a concert in downtown cincinnati i narrowly this past saturday we nearly had a collision because i was looking at the navigation screen trying to figure out where i needed to turn. After that experience i took the time to read about and then reset the navigation system. No success to correct the problem.

After stopping at a red light, when light turned green, i made a right turn, my 2019 highlander started to sputter, choppy like movement and acted like it was going to stall. I pressed on the accelerator somewhat more firmly and it finally started to move more normal. I was on a busy city street turning onto another busy city street.
Hybrid highlander stalled as i was pulling out of driveway, was in motion when my car coasted to a complete stop, could not brake, all power seemed to shut down.message appeared saying: hybrid system malfunction contact dealer.car was towed to dealer and the diagnostic report was to immediately call toyota corporation.consumer reports said this has been a past issue with hybrid prius and some highlanders.is toyota hiding new issues? i am afraid that this car will die on a busy highway, dealer said it needed a new "wiring harness"..(?) i have an ill child that needs reliable transportation, is this not only unreliable but dangerous for my family?help
The panoramic sunroof exploded
The gps system does not provide verbal instructions; only visual.this causes the driver to remove his/her eyes from the road and look frequently and monitor the screen.i have visited the dealership numerous times but there are unable to fix the issue.they acknowledge the issue and stated that toyota is working on a work around but no estimate is provided.i know at least 5 other highlanders in the tampa bay area are experiencing this because when i opened a case with www.toyota.com the case officer called and he informed me of this.i was told yesterday by the vice president of stadium toyota that this issue affects all 2019 highlander limited and limited premium models.toyota has know of this problem since the last week in december 2018 and yet has not implemented a recall or advice documents to owners.

Burning antifreeze odor in cabin after driving for a few minutes.
In march 2020, i received a "recall safety" interim notice that my 2019 toyota highlander is being recalled. On march 21, 2020, i called my local dealership (koon's arlington) where i purchased the vehicle from on january 31, 2020. I spoke to [xxx] in the recall dept. She said that they will call me when the parts come in. Fast forward to 3 months now and still nothing. On june 12, 2020, i called back the dealer and they said to file a complaint which i am doing now. The recall said that "vehicle may stall while driving" and i drive a lot in fast traffic on the highway almost everyday. I hope nothing happened to me or my family while driving. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
Drcc malfunction. While approaching a slower vehicle on a highway, the car decelerates. If while decelerating i change lanes, then the system does not "see" the car in front in the new lane and starts accelerating towards the car full speed approaching the car and potentially crashing into it. This has happened several times and i think i can replicate it.
This suvs 2019 highlander standard 'equipment list' states that it can tow up to 5,000 lbs.it only has front wheel drive.with a weight distribution hitch installed, around 4,200 lbs. Tow weight and around 370 lbs. Of tough weight the suv had a hard time pulling away from stop lights without the tires breaking loose.when backing off of the road onto a flat surface with wet grass the suv lost all traction with the tires spilling.the tires did not dig into the ground at all.they were just slipping on top of the grass.i contacted toyota and discussed this with them, with little information supplied my toyota over about four month time period. Bottom line from toyota there is nothing wrong with the suv.if this suv would have been an all wheel drive i do not think there would have been a problem, but using this fwd suv to tow up to 5,000 lbs. Maybe unsafe.the attached pics show where it lost traction.
The rear ac vents pump out perfumed air. We bought our vehicle in december so did not test drive with the ac on or we would never have bought the car. I am one of many who are sensitive to perfumes and the pollution in the car gives me a headache, makes me nauseous and worst of all makes me sleepy. I have taken the car to the dealership who replaced the air filter with no results. I have taken the issue up with toyota who has stated that there is no perfume and they are done with me. I have a complaint on car gurus that has produced other people with this problem. I have found more people with the same problem on the highlander facebook page. One couple never drives their car in warm weather. One driver says that their 2 year old vehicle is still pumping out the perfume so it doesn't age out. The smell resembles laundry product perfume so my husband and thought that perhaps toyota used some recycled plastic in the rear vents which would be admirable but they deny that they did. I believe that this is a safety issue as the insidious perfume can make drivers sleepy and sick. I am very disappointed in toyota for essentially calling me a liar and i have a $40,000 vehicle that makes me sick.i am not having any luck putting my communications with toyota and other owners into an acceptable format
I purchased this vehicle in march 2020. I specifically asked if it had been a rental car. Having worked in the rental car industry, i know how hard people are on rental cars so i absolutely did not want one. I checked the carfax and it was completely clean. I purchased this vehicle and a few months later noticed a sticker under the rearview mirror that was an avis/budget sticker. Still, the carfax never said it was a rental car. Today i'm cleaning out the glove box and registration falls out from the previous owners: avis budget in nj.so this is confirmation that this car absolutely was a rental car at some point and your carfax failed to disclose that.
While washing the vehicle the cold water from the hose caused the windshield to crack from the base of the windshield to the roof. Vehicle had been parked in the sun prior to this. Vehicle had just spend to the dealer for service sign and no mention was made of a prior crack or chip in the windshield.
Bought vehicle new in nov 19 and in the first heavy downpour driving at more than the normal street crawl at 35mph, the vehicle hydroplaned severely while merging from a highway unto another. Had it not been for the awd system could have been bad. I have asked toyota customer service for help and i have 2 cases open and yet to get anything back. The local dealer i purchased the vehicle from has not done anything including calling me back after the initial call. Left 2 voice mail messages. In short no one at toyota seems concerned and it is very sad, since they do have an overall great product. These tires were put on the car by toyota and they need to stand behind their choices. Tires are fine in the dry weather but worthless in the rain. This tire, the toyo a20 has terrible customer scores in variousonline independent sources (ie tire rack). The tires at the time had about 7000 miles on them with no signs of any wear issue and once again in dry weather they have been ok. Why would toyota use an inferior tire on such a vehicle when they normally use brand name tires in tier 1? the date is an estimate in mid august on a saturday morning after dropping off my son at work, it could have been that weekend or the one before.
