The contact owned a 2011 toyota highlander. While driving on the highway, the vehicle hydroplaned around a corner and went into a small embankment. The vehicle t-boned the center barrier of the freeway. None of the air bags deployed. Most of the front end was crashed in and the driver's side was severely damaged. The engine and radiator were pushed far back from their original positions. The vehicle was towed and inspected by the insurance company then by an independent mechanic. The consensus was that the vehicle would be deemed destroyed. A police report was filed and there were no injuries. The dealer and manufacturer were not contacted. The cause of the failure was unknown. The failure mileage was 150,000.
The contact complained about a 2011 toyota highlander. The contact stated that while the driver was driving about 60 mph, the vehicle crashed into the vehicle in front which stopped abruptly. The air bags did not deploy and the seat belt did not lock in place (stayed loose). There was no warning.the driver sustained injuries that required medical attention. A police report was filed. The contact who was an independent mechanic stated that the vehicle was totaled. The vehicle was towed to a body shop.the dealer and the manufacturer were not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 180,000.

I hit a concrete post at roughly 30 mph, dead center front of vehicle.the car was totalled, and none of the airbags deployed.i broke my neck due to the seatbelt holding my chest and torso back on the seat, while my head moved forward, all the way down and hitting the steering wheel.this head movement resulted in a complete break of my c2 vertebrae.this happened after entering the large area of a walmart parking lot from the highway.
Front passenger airbag light off. Even when a person is sitting on the seat. Cruise control also stopped working, light wouldn't even come on. Power locking system also ceased working.
I swerved to avoid hitting a deer. The car went onto the shoulder of the road and back onto the road.the side airbags deployed on both sides of the car.a large piece of plastic, at least 2ft. In length, flew off on the driver's side causing severe cuts, lacerations, and abrasions to my left arm - this required a trip the emergency room at a local hospital where my entire arm was treated.i can understand why the airbags deployed but cannot accept the fact that i was injured by flying plastic debris...updated 08/25/14 updated 09/2/2014
While accelerating onto the on-ramp of the of the highway, the warning light came on,the rear door/window warning came on and then the dome lights came on.it continued going on and off for about 15-20 minutes. Very concerning when you are in highway traffic and can't get off! previous times that this occurred, the seat belt warningwould ding, the "back door open" warning would flash, the dome lights would turn on, and then it would stop.yesterday, that cycle continued. My husband believes yesterday's incident began due to a bump in the road.on previous occasions, there was no bump.
2011 toyota highlander 4wd: system check panel i indicating the rear door is open, when it's not. Been to dealer 3 times. Car has 10000 miles on it. The rear door open indicator effects door locking ability with key fob as well as continual chime indicating rear door is open in conjunction with turning dome light off and on. Dealer thought it was rear door strike plate. Adjusted accordingly. This was not the problem. 3rd visit to dealer still trying to pinpoint why this is happening so far no luck. Electrical bad door sensor faulty electrical door switch this problem is very annoying and now times consuming 3 visits to the dealer and still no solution. Rear door open indicator initially made to stop by rolling down driver side window at highway speed. Indicator also made to go off when road turns to the left only. It's back at the dealership today (9/12/2011).
Since last year, while vehicle is in motion the rear hatch sensor began going on. Light and sensor go on when the temperature outside is high and when the car is turning. This is only for the rear hatch. I have researched online and see this is a problem with this make and model of vehicle. The issue is the sensor connected to the hatch lock. This is a safety issue while driving.
There are two issues with my 2011 highlander. I purchased this vehicle 1 year ago and am quite upset about the issues and the money that i need to put into it. I am actually looking into trading this vehicle as, after spending 26k on it, i shouldn't be dealing with or paying for these issues. Toyota has been nonexistent in offering remedies. I have only ever owned toyotas (2 camrys and 1 highlander) and probably will never own one again. Thanks toyota!!! - the alarm constantly goes off for no apparent reason. I am unable to lock the doors on the vehicle otherwise the alarm will go off every 30 minutes to 1 hour. Toyota wants to charge $130 just to look at the vehicle. This is a known issue that presents itself in every toyota forum. There should be a recall on this. - the bolts that connect the window to the contraption that rolls up and down the window all have fallen off. This cost me 150 to fix on just one window. The bolts loosen by themselves and fall off. This too has been listed on many toyota forums and should have a recall.
While driving on the highway in cruise control and no check engine light vehicle lost power steering speedometer readings. Reported abs brake malfunction, brake malfunction. Over the next 45 minutes while in route to a toyota dealer vehicle intermittently lost power steering and speedometer readings. All malfunctions happened with no warning.
While driving at approximately 40 mph, i was unable to keep the car in the lane on a slight curve to the right in the road. The steering wheel was turning, but the wheels were not responding. The steering wheel was much harder to turn. Suddenly the steering wheel was extremely easy to turn and the car veered heavily to the right causing me to run off the road. This has happened several times at other speeds.the consumer has since traded the vehicle. Updated 09/13/12the consumer stated electronic steering systems were fundamentally flawed.the consumer stated he will never buy another vehicle with electric steering.updated10/22/12
Sensor for "open door" comes on when hitting a bump or sudden turns. More prominent when turning left even at low speeds. Have problems with locking the vehicle at times due to this. Have taken this to the dealership and they stated it has to be a rubber in the rear window that causes this issue. When driving around at any speed it randomly starts to beep and goes off. Not safe when taking the van out and isn't able to lock out in public.
Driving on a highway with gentle turns at 35mph, power steering failed.i was able to drive straight until there were no cars directly behind me and i could brake to a safe speed to attempt turning.i was eventually able to manually steer the car to turn into a driveway using a three point turn.
The rear hatch door sensor goes off when the car makes a turn or is driven over bump.the dealership said the door sensor system must be replaced at an estimated cost of more than $700.also, driver's side visor does not stay up.cost to replace, $300.
Turning on the rear defroster will cut power to the engine and dashboard. Turning off the defroster will return power to the dash. This happens regardless of if the vehicle is still or in motion.
Rear door sensor is defective. Light either stays on and gets extremely hot which drains the battery or light and back door ajar indicator flashes and sounds signal beep on and off constantly as you drive. I read online that many others have this problem. One solution is to cut wire, but that is unsafe as you could be driving with an open door and not know it.
2011 toyota highlander 4wd: system check panel indicating the rear glass door is open, when it's not. Continual chime indicating door is open in conjunction with turning dome light off and on. Bad door sensor faulty electrical door switch.
The rear door sensor keeps indicating the door is open when it is not.this causes the interior lights to flash, door to chime, and the rear display to show "door open".this began happening when i would turn left.when the weather is really hot outside (90s and above) it is worse.this issue causes a bigger problem, with the vehicle thinking that the rear door is not closed it does not allow me to lock/alarm my vehicle when out in public.i am active duty military and currently live overseas, so keeping my vehicle locked/alarmed is extremely important.
The warning lights and display indicate that the rear glass door is open when it is not. The warning light and displays goes on and off repeatedly.
Car has been in use for 3 weeks. After not being driven for 4 days, no electrical power is received from the battery. Jump-starting the car was attempted, but the car remained immobilized. Failure and current mileage is 800.
When turn left the warning sistem for open doors is on andturn on interior lighs and soundwarning for secondsand go off. Afraid the doors is go be open
Actuators fail to respond in car driverside door.in park key fob read doors as unlocked and causes lock and unlock to run after engine is shut down. Didi diage at totyota of bowie 6-21 -18 .conformation shows no problem with actuators eletronics read fine.bought key fob annapolis toyota reprogramed code 6-22 and 2nd trip 6-25
Alarm system goes off randomly hood latch switch to be the problem.. Toyota is charging 300 plus $ for manufacturing defect - check techinical bulleten ( t-sb-0200-10 )i feel its not fairi have
As i was tiring right a sensor came on and the steering wheel locked and all the lights turns off. Thank god i was almost home. Happened a few times really scary.
The electric door locks have failed again for the third time.i have had all 4 door locks replaced, some twice, at considerable expense.the driver's door lock and the driver's-side rear door lock are now broken again.the driver's door lock does not operate electrically at all again.this means i must pull the mechanical key out of the key fob to unlock the door.when the car is placed in drive, the driver's door remains unlocked, as does the driver's-side rear door - a serious safety issue since they are supposed to lock automatically, and they will not lock manually with the electric door lock switch located on the driver's door - i have to manually push the door lock lever mechanically.i am very disappointed in toyota.the problem lies with the cheap solenoids/motors that are used to actuate the door locks - a device that costs less than $5 on amazon, but is difficult to install for us non-mechanics.i have heard of the same problem happening with other car manufacturers as well.
The contact owns a 2011 toyota highlander. While the vehicle was parked the contact stated that it started moving on its own. The gear shift does not have to be in park in order to turn the vehicle on since it was turned off by pressing a button. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technicians stated that there were no repairs needed and that was the way the vehicle was designed. Updated 3/22/11updated 04/25/11
The contact owns a 2011 toyota highlander. The contact stated that the check engine warning light illuminated constantly and the engine exhibited an abnormal roaring noise. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer several times for the failure who advised the contact that nothing was wrong with the engine and the noise the engine was exhibiting was a normal occurrence.the contact stated that in august 2012while driving 65 mph, the vehicle made a clucking noise and the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact was able to place the gear into reverse and into a parking area. The vehicle was towed to the dealer who located the failure as the transmission solenoid clutch assembly. The transmission solenoid clutch assembly was replaced however, the failure was not corrected. The vehicle would not accelerate and the abnormal noise persisted. The failure mileage was 3,467 and the current mileage was 20,896. Updated 10/03/12*ljupdated 10/3/2012
While driving on the highway in cruise control and no check engine light vehicle lost power steering speedometer readings. Reported abs brake malfunction, brake malfunction. There is a problem with my power steering wheel, it's stiff and i unable to control it when on the road. When driving on the freeway with high speed, the steering wheel sway left or right and i unable to control it back to straight. Also, when making a turn the steering wheel not reflexes, fast enough for me to make a turn. For instance, whenever i make a right turn and then try to straighten the vehicle back to straight, the steering wheel does not reflex back enough that it leads me to hit the curb damaging front wheel rim. Since, the problem keeps on occurring, as i get worried i took it to the dealership repair shop twice within the period of 2 months. The first time, i took it in the mechanic states that probably has a problem with the alignment, so i paid the for the performance. And it didn't help at all. Then the second time, i took it back to the dealership repair shop again, i told them that the alignment didn't help at all and also i specify that the problem is the steering wheel then i left the vehicle the whole day for the repair shop to fix it. Later, when i went to pick it up, they stated that they corrected the cradle and do the alignment 4 times and i took the car out home. The vehicle still had the problem that i had when i took the car in to repair, then i drove back to the dealership and told the mechanic. Then the mechanic drove the car with me in the car, and he told me the problem is the electric steering wheel and there no way he could do anything about it. Then i asked him if i took it to any other shop will that help. He said no, there no shops that could fix it. He also said that i just have to put up with it.but, it is my life or ever my family members life on the road. So, i'm really worried and i don't have money to replace with a new car right now. The car has never been in an accident before, i bought it new from the dealership.
Turning on the rear defroster will cut power to the engine and dashboard. Turning off the defroster will return power to the dash. This happens regardless of if the vehicle is still or in motion.
My 2011 toyota highlander v6 awd suffered a sudden oil cooler pipe failure/rupture leading to catastrophic engine failure/damage at approximately 85,000 miles. This is a known defect with certain 2008-2011 highlanders and was the subject of a service bulletin and eventually a warranty enhancement (ze2) starting in 2014, but we were never notified of this issue via mail or by the toyota dealer at which the vehicle is regularly serviced.the vehicle was traveling on the highway when the problem occurred. The vehicle was then towed to the dealership where it was found that the sudden loss of oil had caused catastrophic engine damage due to a bent rod from running without oil. As this problem can lead to major safety issues due to sudden loss of power (not to mention the potential for several thousand dollars in damage if a complete engine replacement is needed) a mandatory recall should be performed.
The contact owns a 2011 toyota highlander. The contact stated while adding engine oil, the oil would leak from front section of engine. The contact stated that the oil pressure warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to a local dealer where it was in the process of being diagnosed. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 161,000.
Engine oil cooler hose "leaking". Toyota did issue a technical service bulletin, but was never checked during regular dealer servicing as part of the hoses. Condition is on the 3.5l toyota/lexus engine and can be seen in this video:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=67s7y90otiynew part number is 15767-31020 with gaskets 15185-0p010 and 11496-31010.
T-sb-0201-11 from toyota states "some vehicles equipped with 2gr-fe/fxe towing package engines may exhibit an oil seep from the engine oil cooler pipes." this tsb affects toyota and lexus vehicles going back to at least 2008-present. This is a major issue, and i feel this should be handled as a recall instead of a tsb due to the severity of the issue if/when the pipe breaks. I recently elected to have my vehicle repaired on my own just so i wouldn't have to worry about this issue happening to me or my wife, and thus blowing up my highlander's engine causing thousands of dollars in damages. Seems pretty bad that a recall can be issued for floor mats and accelerator issues, but no recall is issued for this issue which can drain the oil from your engine in a minute, blow up your engine, and then possibly wreck your vehicle. Consumer's engines are now being destroyed, and this is showing up in different online forums. I feel that the nhtsa needs to force toyota to replace all of the defective engine oil cooler pipes with the newer metal ones that the tsb addresses. They should also be forced to reimburse all costs to those individuals that either needed to have the repair done, or decided to preventatively have the repair done on their own before those pipes burst on their own.
Can you please give me an email address where i can send a detailed report of issue.too large for space provided.thank you
Engine oil cooler hose bursted and leaked oil everywhere on the highway, engine overheated..was alerted by the system as low pressure engine oil warning. Room to cause significant damage. Need to recall this.
The oil cooler hose leaked...lost all oil and oil pressure in less than a few minutes...lucky the engine didn;t blow.there should be a recall on this as it appears it has happened to thousands of people.
Vehicle makes a very noticeable, irritating whine or whistle noise when accelerating at 40mph.stops when gas pedal is released.very constant and annoying.did not happen when car was first purchased.have been told by toyota that it was the transfer case, which they replaced.did not fix the problem.now they tell me it is normal.test drove another vehicle from their lot of the same exact year, make, model.no noise at all.this is not normal.toyota knows about the problem, but they are denying it.other toyota vehicles (i.e. Rav4, tundra) had/have the same problem.forums tell me it is the transmission.waiting on appointment for a field tech from toyota to examine it.
The contact owns a 2011 toyota highlander hybrid. The contact stated that while approaching a stop sign, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who was unable to diagnose the failure. The manufacturer was not made aware of the problem. The vehicle was not repaired. The vin was not available. The failure mileage was 15,000 and current mileage was 16,000.
Ford f150 supercrew 4x4 - fuel tank strap broke.tank just hanging.luckily noticed it and have ordered new straps.
My driver side visor lost all tension. I had to either hold it up or tie it out of the way.i had it replaced at lowe toyota in warner robins, ga for $199.87.i would not expect a visor to tear up even for a 2011 model.it was a safety issue that needed to be fixed.i think there should be a recall on these visorsand reimbursement for replacing them.thanks, [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
The sun visor popped when i was pulling it down to sheild my eyes and now it will not return to original position.concern as it gets in my way when driving.this is the drivers side visor which i tend to hit my head on and have to move my seat lower in order to see properly.i took it to my dealership and they told me it would be $300 to fix.that is ridiculous as i feel this is a faulty part that could be a hazardous situation if not taken care of. Recal may be in order to correct this issue.
When turn left the warning sistem for open doors is on andturn on interior lighs and soundwarning for secondsand go off. Afraid the doors is go be open
While driving, interior lights turn on and door chime warning on dash sounds. All doors are properly closed
When driving at night, the new headlight design on the 2011 toyota highlander causes the low beam lights to appear as ifthere is a visor on the lights.when traveling on level roads or going up hill the headlights beam throw distance is efficient with the visor effect.however, when going down hill after cresting a knoll, the visor effect diminishes the throw distance of the headlight by an estimated 50%. This light throw reduction took me by surprise and caused me to almost hit a deer this evening on the first night of ownership.toyota needs to make a change to get rid of the visor effect. Request nhtsa investigate this new design before numerous accidents occur. I am contacting toyota tomorrow to see what they have to say.
Exterior lightingpoor lighting from headlight low beams. Design of car seems to get in the way of the beam causing low to novisibility.it is especially hard to see the edge of the road with the low beams and this has caused a problem with being able to see deer and avoid hitting them/being hit.i have been to the dealer on several occasions to remedy the problem. They have checked alignment, bulbs, positioning, etc. But they tell me it is a design fault of the car and there is nothing they can do. Luckily my model has white fog light. Using them at all times when i drive at night has helped me to see.i need to drive with brights on whenever possible to be able to see the road.the biggest problem comes during rain or fog because one can not use high beams because of the reflection so it is impossible to see the road at night during these conditions. I have documentation of my repair requests and accident report from deer strike if needed.
The contact owns a 2011 toyota highlander. The contact stated that the low beam headlights didn't illuminate the entire road. As a result, the contact hit a deer. The contact was not able to avoid the crash due to failed visibility coverage. The contact was not injured and a police report was not filed.the vehicle was taken to the dealer several times for the failure prior to the crash. The dealer aligned the headlights several times however, the failure was not corrected. The dealer stated that the headlight design was a manufacturing defect that could not be corrected. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 25,000 and the current mileage was 32,000. Updated 7/8/13 the consumer was informed the headlights could not be fixed, as it was a factory problem. Updated 07/18/13
I had my car in for it's 60,000 mile service on friday, oct 3rd, 2014 at cherokee toyota, canton, ga. My wife drove it for only the third time since the service and encountered a dangerous situation. The highlander started to accelerate on it's own. My wife stepped on the brakes then the engine cutoff in the middle of the road.i meet up with her and tried to start the car. The engine tachometer rapidly increased then the engine shutoff. Towed to cherokee toyota for evaluation.
The automatic latch of the liftgate started to fail. The liftgate not longer opens automatically. I was told it is probably the motor and the parts cost alone is over $1,200.i cannot afford this and am doing without that feature, but annoyed!
I only have 7k miles in my car i own the car for only 1 year. I notice that the steering wheel is not balance at all. At least 5-10 degree to the right. I have my car service every 6 months with toyota it should be balanced and done the tire rotation???also the transmission occasionally stall about 1-2 second when i accelerate to 30-40 mph. I am afraid that the transmission will have problem within this 2-3 years. Like honda transmission failure on odyssey.

The following email/report was sent to the toyota dealership from whom i had purchased this new vehicle:i am writing to report an abnormal incident, which may or may not be related to the stall problem i had encountered, and which you inspected during my last visit.in this incident, i was very gently trying to move the car into my garage from a stationary position (there is a small 10 to 15 degree grade over a 3 ft distance before the garage floor became level again). As i slowly pressed down on the accelerator, the car started to move slowly in a normal fashion, but after moving half way into the garage, it suddenly accelerated, almost at full throttle...i had to slam on the brake as hard as i could react, missing a crash by only a few inches. As i tried to analyze what happened, the only thing that i can think of is that as i was moving slowly enough where most likely only the electric motor was moving the car, but then very suddenly that electric motor sourced its absolute full power to accelerate the wheels---almost as if the sw decided to ignore my very soft pressure on the gas pedal and source maximum power.please advise when your toyota engineers will be visiting you again so that they may review this latest abnormality.i am also forwarding this message to the national auto safety department, since i am now quite concerned about safety.

Driving on a city street at about 35 miles per hour i was heading home with my kids (5 y.o. And 7 y.o.) when the vehicle decelerated and lost power while i was driving in traffic, i was fortunate that the care rolled long enough to pull over to a safe spot with my children and call for a tow. Lights that came on check hybrid system, check brake system, check 4wd system, and the check engine light came on. After the vehicle was inspected at toyota of cerritos i was informed that the master mechanic had to place a ticket with toyota motor company to figure out the issue due to all the codes that were logged after the diagnostic. Toyota motor informed mechanic it was hybrid inverter failure. This could of been a horrible situation had i been driving on the freeway and my car suddenly stopped function like it did on the evening of 11/05/2019.

When making a left or right hand turn from a stop or barely moving and applying the gas pedal slowly, the car acts like it going to stall. I say "acts" because if the engine stalls, it would be difficult to brake or steer. The engine has not stopped in these cases; it seems like the transmission is trying to shift up or down but cannot make up its mind and just coasts (scary if oncoming traffic is closing the gap). Making left hand turns are the most dangerous since you are looking for a break in the oncoming traffic before completing the turn; oncoming cars tend not to slow down when they see you making a turn in front of them.
When car goes above around 35-45 mph a abnormal whine noise emanates from the transmission
At low speed, the auto has a serious delay when you press down on the gas pedal to enter a lane of traffic such as entering an interstate froman entrance ramp. After the delay the auto then surges into the traffic lane.toyota officials claim it is caused by a communication problem between the computer and the transmission.they told me that it cannot be corrected. I feel that the delay and surge is not safe.

Front passenger seat belt stock. Do not release. It cannot be use. Toyota care center said is out of guaranty and i have to pay just to verify it.what about safety?
Wow!it just keeps getting better!!%&*@* highlander has more safety problems....24,988 miles;sunday, oct 26, 2014 our youngest sons seatbelt (2nd row passenger behind driver seat) would not release; causing him to panic and nearly choke himself to get out.i had to yank, pull and tug to get the belt to release.this is not the first time this has happened including not being able to get it to click and stay buckled.so, besides a vehicle we can't drive far to not risk getting stranded because of reported engine malfunction issues (toyota motor sales, u.s.a., inc. Expressed clearly: 'oh well, too bad, your screwed, good luck!), the lie of a cover up extended warranty never received and now we can't use the 2nd row passenger seat behind driver due to seat belt not working properly.what's next??i can only imagine with all the recent toyota recalls.
While going into a parking space, i attempted to engage the brakes, the brake pedal depressed entirely to the floor, and the brakes did not engage. As the result, my vehicle dropped approximately 15 feet over a retaining wall to a lower parking lot landing nose first onto the pavement of the parking area below. The airbag deployed and the vehicle ultimately landed on all four tires, rolling forward until i was able to stop the vehicle by engaging the emergency brake.
Both front inner brakespads completely warned out damaging both rotors badly, some metal pieces found on floor broke loose from both front rotors. Outside pads has 60% thickness left on it. Ended up changing both front rotors and pads costing $375. Mechanic said this may be a result of a faulty brake system. Talk to toyota representative without any solution or response.
The contact owns a 2011 toyota highlander. When the brake pedal was depressed at 20 mph, the vehicle unintentionally accelerated without warning. The vehicle eventually stopped after the brake pedal was depressed with extreme force. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 100,900. On feb 13, i was driving an ann arbor, mi, street that was downhill and icy. I pressed the brake pedal until the abs came on, and held it on for 15 to 30 seconds. This did not stop the car, but slowed it, and allowed me to go straight, until after 10 to 20 seconds, the abs stopped working (no more pedal pulsing, no more abs noise), the wheels locked up, and i slid into the curb. Fortunately, there was no damage.a technician at toyota dealership said it is normal on all vehicles for abs to stop working, and for wheels to lock up, after abs operates for a period of time.this may be what i experienced. He said one should release the pedal and then reapply pressure, or pump the pedal. This suggestion is quite different than the usual instructions, which say to continually press brake pedal. He had an explanation, which i cannot repeat -- something to do with brake fluid depleting somewhere, perhaps the master cylinder. The abs problem problem light has not come on.after that incident, the antilock brakes have worked fine, though i have not tested them in the severe conditions of feb 13. Since the abs system seems to be working now, and the abs light is not on, there appears to be little chance the toyota dealer could do something useful.there appear to be two possibilities:1.there's a problem with toyota highlander abs systems when applied for an extended period of time.nhtsa will become aware of this if more owners make reports.2.the technician is correct that after activating abs for a length of time, one must release the pedal, or pulse it, in order for abs to continue to operate. In this case, instructions for using abs need to be substantially revised, and organizations such as nhtsa ought to inform the public of the issue and the potential for dangerous accidents when abs is applied continuously for too long.
I was parking my car at a parking lot. I attempted to stop the car (it was about 2mph) while applying brake and my car did not stop, rather it accelerated, i pushed brake and did not work, it jumped on the curb. I released brake, reapplied and changed to parking mode immediately and it stopped.this issue has happened third time with this car. When car is about to slow down and stop, that time brake don't work and car accelerate further. Brake pedal was vibrating when it was a snow on the road when i was trying to stop at stoplight and it accelerate. This is very very dangerous and unsafe. I have read several same complaints online. This is a definite manufacturer defects and must be recalled immediately. Luckily so far, i have not hit anything but now after the parking lot incident i am afraid.
I was driving in the coastal hills of the san francisco peninsula when i noticed that the car started vibrating severely when applying the brakes on downward slopes. I realized that this was due to the brake discs overheating. For the remained of the trip i used the gearshift to slow down the car when driving along downward sloping roads by selecting 2nd gear in the automatic gearshift. By avoiding use of the brakes, i avoided the vibration and was able to get home safely. I subsequently brought the car to the dealership for maintenance. The technical staff confirmed that the brake discs showed signs of overheating but did not replace them under warranty.this same problem presented itself earlier, too, at approximately 15,000 miles, during a trip in the sierra nevada. On this previous incident, when i brought the car to the dealership, the brake disks were replaced under warranty, but the underlying problem was not addressed: the undersized discs being unable to dissipate the heat generated by the brakes when driving downhill.please, consider this a severe problem, potentially requiring a recall: the severe vibrations caused by the brakes on a downward sloping mountain road, especially with wet or snowy roads, could easily make the vehicle to slip out of control and cause a crash.

At 8:00 am on 7/7/2016, my son was driving my highlander 2011 to work at 80 m/h on road 287 in nj. The vin is [xxx].the car in front of my son was slowing down. My son was trying to brake the car to slow down. But,the all brakes stopped working and the dashboard screen displaying a warning message "brake: brake malfunction". My highlander 2011 crashed into the car in front of it. My car was just maintained on 3/15/2106at towne toyota, ledgewood, nj 07852.all brakes were updated.please advise me who should take the responsibility for "brake malfunction".information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
Abs brake actuator failed on toyota highlander.spent $1905 on repairs from toyota.there was a relate recall on toyota camery hybrid with the same problem. The abs function won't activate while driving.i have receipts of all the repairs on hand
I was driving about 40 mph and approaching a left turn. I tried to brake the car to slow down and the brake did not work. My foot pushed all the way down and since i had 2 kids in the car i was really concerned that i could not stop the vehicle. I tried to bring the car to a stop and hit the side walk. This was not the first time or the last time it happened. Even after the car has been repaired, the brakes continue to malfunction at least twice a week. I apply the brakes and the vehicle accelerates and then slowly brakes, sometimes does not brake at all. I have reported this to toyota and they are denying there is anything wrong. I believe there is some programming issuing with the car and the brakes continue to malfunction. I don't know where else to turn. I have 5 kids and driving an unsafe car.
I was driving 2011 toyota highlander, stopped the car at red light (intersection of catharpin rd and us 55). During the green light, i was trying to take a right turn on the light and the car did not allow me to turn the power steering (stuck) and on the lcd panel it started blinking message saying break malfunction, the car went on to the oncoming traffic lane and finally with some struggle stopped the car on the oncoming traffic lane. Luckily, no one was coming on that lane (my good fortune). Called the cops and they helped the car to pull on side of the road. Looks like serious problem with the car. Requesting the toyota take a look at the problem before someone gets into serious trouble.
I was driving my brand new (3 weeks after i bought it) toyota highlander v6 in a secondary down hill road when the brake system failed completely and the car started to accelerate downhill. Not being able to control it i ignored the "full stop" sign at the end of the secondary road and i continued in a flat main road where cars normally speed until i was able to put the shift into park and finally the car stopped with a lurch. The life of my son and mine were seriously endangered. The car was towed by the dealer and it is still there after they have replaced at least 2 parts so far. We paid almost $32 000 for a brand new defect free car but insetad they are going to give us the same car which is now undergoing major repairs.
Purchased my 2011 highlander in march, & it had 7000 miles on it at the time of the incident. I started the vehicle in my driveway, put it in drive, and started down my driveway. Pressed the brake pedal, and there were no brakes and seemed not to have power steering. The lights in the dash came on, and the screen said brake malfunction contact dealer immediately.there were no brakes, i finally came to a stop at the bottom of the hill, put the car in park, and turned the ignition off. When i turned the key, the car started, the dash lights were still lit up, and i guess the computer seemed to "reset".i pulled back into my driveway & had the car towed to the dealer the next day. The dealer has had it for over two weeks, and the incident has not happened again, and they said that they cannot find a single thing wrong with it. They can, however, see that there was an "incident" with the brakes on that date by the computer reading. I have been told that i am going to be getting this car back, and that it is fine. Everyone say a prayer for myself and my 3 kids that arein it, & hope that it doesn't happen again in these mountains that i live!

The contact owns a 2011 toyota highlander. While driving at low speeds or going over a bump in the road, there was an abnormal noise coming from the steering wheel. The vehicle was taken to steve landers toyota (10825 colonel glenn rd, little rock, ar 72204, (501) 568-5800) where it was diagnosed that the intermediate shaft in the steering column needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 102,396.
Started the car.power steering was gone!! it had just gone out!!!thank god i was in town.i had just gone over mountain road where i could have gone over a cliff and been killed.i was able to take the car with horrible difficulty to a mechanic across the street and they called the toyota dealer and they told them to disconnect the battery.that didn't work.i had the car towed to the toyota dealer when they took the tow it seemed to be working.they checked it and was given an "all system ok" on the powertrain, chassis, electrical and network systems.they said it was a "glitch"a glitch????this is a car i paid $34,000 for and i have kept up with all the scheduled maintenance.now i'm afraid to drive it.it was terrifying.i have to drive home from san luis obispo to lancaster ca and i'm scared to death.a glitch????
At around 90,000 miles i noticed a distinct clunk in the steering as the wheel unwound from sharp turns at slow speed.the clunk also showed up while driving straight on rough roads and under firm braking.this is apparently a known issue https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2013/sb-10075792-2280.pdf.i have had the part replaced with the updated version, and the steering is now good again, but i expected something like to be covered in a safety recall.
The contact owns a 2011 toyota highlander. When the contact moved the steering wheel, it made a loud abnormal popping noise. The noise grew louder when the vehicle was being driven at different speeds. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or independent mechanic for diagnostic testing or repairs. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was unknown.
Lost power steering while driving at 40 mph on an access road entering the freeway and dash lights and radio cut in and out.
Clunking and clicking when turning the wheel.tsb from toyota calls for intermediate steering shaft replacement, but toyota will not warranty replacement of the faulty part.hundreds of complaints online with this same issue.
I came to a complete stop at a red light in my neighborhood, preparing to make a right turn. When i then began the right turn i lost power steering and could not straighten out the wheel, resulting in me running up onto the curb. I immediately let off of the gas pedal- luckily no one was behind me. I then gave the car gas again while turning the wheel back to the left, and suddenly the power steering was working again.
At a stop or at low speed starts, turning the steering wheel results in a clunking or creaking noise.this does not happen at higher speeds.the noise happens whether turning it left or right.usually hear it coming out of a parking spot or moving from a stop. It has been doing this for a few years.
The contact owns a 2011 toyota highlander. While driving unknown speeds, there was an abnormal knocking and popping noise when turning the steering wheel left and right. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The contact called the local dealer (five star toyota of milledgeville, 2816 n columbia st, milledgeville, ga 31061, (478) 387-2112) and was informed to schedule a service appointment. The contact stated that the failure was similar to nhtsa action number: pe18005 (steering). The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 156,000.
I had a clunking noise whenever i turned the steering wheel left or right at slow speeds.i checked on line and found this site which noted fault to be the intermediate steering shaft, as the issue.i took my vehicle into a toyota dealership for repair.they confirmed that this was the issue and because it is not considered a safety issue, no recall has been issued.toyota would not cover any of the cost which was $684.it started when i had 80,000 miles on the vehicle and i took it in for repair at 94,000 miles when noice became louder..disappointed toyota did not help with the repair cost.
Intermediate shaft issues. Had one intermediate shaft replaced under warranty a year or two after purchase. Intermediate shaft issues returned in the lastyear. Toyota dealership wants $500 to replace a shaft they know has been defective for years leading up to this model. This is the primary vehicle for my wife and children. I am concerned about there safety with this matter. This issue should have been recalled years ago. This issue shouldn't have to come to the point of someone getting injured or dying to have this matter addressed.
Steering shaft u joint makes clunking noise.dealer advised immediate replacement as this is a safety concern.
Popping noise in steering wheel when turning left or right at slow speeds.
When you turn the steering wheel and then the turn is completed...the steering wheel does not go back into position. This occurs when you are in motion.
When turning or over bumps the steering column makes clunking noise. Has become louder with time
Driving on a highway with gentle turns at 35mph, power steering failed.i was able to drive straight until there were no cars directly behind me and i could brake to a safe speed to attempt turning.i was eventually able to manually steer the car to turn into a driveway using a three point turn.
Clunking or tapping noise when turning left or right that can be felt in the steering wheel. Diagnosed by toyota as "steering intermediate shaft binding." this is a known issue with the 2008-2013 highlander. Advised by toyota mechanic that it doesn't need to be fixed unless i prefer it not to knock or clunk when turning.
Intermediate steering shafts clunk noise. Frequently while driving.
Every time i turn my wheel i have a thumping sound (worse when i am turning right)
I started experiencing a clunk in the steering wheel column when turning the wheel to the left for parking .it happened a couple of times so i took it to my regular toyota dealership for service.after test driving the car they told me it was the steering intermediate shaft that needed to be replaced.i felt i had no choice so had them do the work and it cost $782.30 for parts / labor plus $134.95 for alignment. Total of $917.25.i found out that toyota had issued a technical service bulletin #t-sb-0034-13 on february 21,2013 sent to all toyota repair shops addressing this issue.they told the mechanics how to replace this equipment and that "a new intermediate shaft has been developed to address this condition".to me that means that in 2013 they knew it was a design flaw and corrected the problem by designing a new shaft.if they had notified the 2008-2013 toyota highlander customers then that this would be an issue, many would have still been under warranty and it would have been covered.but instead they waited until people had the problem, brought their cars in for repair and then charged them whatever the going rate is.in the technical service bulletin is clearly states that this would be covered under a basic warranty for toyota.i spoke to my service advisor and he referred me to toyota headquarters.i called there and spoke to two "senior customer advisors" and basically was told i was out of luck...no recall, no campaign and no customer remuneration.when i look online it's clear that my highlander is not the only one who has had to deal with this issue and spend hundreds of dollars for the repair. I think this is an issue that toyota should have to own up to !!
At approximately 40-42 mph on a slight curve to the right, the steering would get very tight and the steering wheel was extremely difficult to turn in the direction of the road.( it is as if the car was turning to the left on its own) this has happened several times and the dealer and toyota inspected the car. The car was under case management with toyota three times for the same problem. Case #'s [xxx], [xxx], and case [xxx]. Each time toyota would state there is no problem and the car was "functioning as designed. " toyota's excessive use of electronics in areas such as steering have created unsafe vehicles.even worse, my opinion is toyota knows they have another safety issue and once again is denying and covering it up. Toyota can no longer be trusted!information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
The steering in my highlander has started making a popping and knocking sound when turning the vechicle. This seems to be a known design defectwith this vechicle by toyota and they should issue a safety recall. The noise is mostly noticeable at lower speeds when parking but it also occurs when the vehicle is in motion.
For several months, there's a thump when turning the steering wheel in either direction, no matter what road/street. We have less than 43,000 miles on it & do not drive on ruff terrain. We purchased the 2011 toyota highlander new, take it to the dealer every 6 mos for maint. & now told it needs a steering shaft replacement & 4 wheel alignment. ($657.33 total!) this is inconceivable to pass on to customers. And a road hazard to all on the roads.
When making a right hand turn the steering system has a significant "bump" of "thump".this appears to be a problem with a part of the steering sector shaft that toyota is well aware of but will not acknowledge there is a problem with design.toyota will only correct problem if customer is willing to pay cost of approximately $1200.not sure what will happen if correction is not made, but i believe it could lead to failure of the steering system to function appropriately.
6month after i had bought my vehicle i made an appointment to have check my moon roof leaking, and working out of control after raining, they said they found nothing, and between oil change ask to re-check moon roof and nothing wrong they only kept one time "check" for the issue then last year for the bad winter we had i found my car floor too wet and though it was the snow not the moon roof, so i brought it last april and the said they will try to see what was wrong but that my guarantee was expired and they did find out from where was the leak, cause my car will be park overnight raining and will be in the morning soak n wet, so i brought it to my mechanic hefound like its from factory defect not a hole for a one hose to throw out the water from moon roof. So my car has mold, my daughter and i suffer from respiratory illness, and she is a child, i am very distress and emotional very worry cause that problem is making us see k most of the time, i want this problem to be solve.im a single mom who pays this vehicle with a lot of efforts and don't know who could help me i'm very depressed i need help can some body help us? thank you. This is also a safety issue cause my feet are getting sleeper i.e. Due to the mold asi drive around.
Front windshield sealer bead not adhered to the glass.toyota tacoma.
Power liftgate motor arm detached from the upper portion of the rear door.upon repeated use and tightening it becomes stripped. Forums reports this is common for several model years - no recall.hole to screw becomes stripped over time. No access to the back end to apply nut.dealer recommends taking it to a body shop for door replacement at $3200 - $3900 dollars.extremely bad design flaw.if liftgate seems weak in opening nand closing, this could be part of the problem.showed weakness for weeks until i heard the pop and realized the power rod came out.when i went to screw it back in - it's stripped.out of warranty period.no solution found other than replacing the rear liftgate.
I noticed in november 2016 that the paint on my 2011 toyota roof was peeling off. I took it to a trusted body shop and the owner advised my to take it to the dealership as it appeared to be a manufacturer defect. I did as he suggested and i was subjected to months of unresponsive behavior before i was finally told my car was beyond the 3year warranty therefore not their problem in october of 2017. Since this time, the paint failure has progressed to include nearly every panel on my vehicle. I have also learned that toyota is recalling blizzard pearl vehicles due to this exact problem but my vin in not included. I feel this needs to be remedied immediately as this manufacturer defect greatly impacts the value of my investment. **i am unable to attach more than one picture to my complaint. However, i have multiple photos and some damage is impossible to successfully document bubbling paint.
I pressed the rear hatch button to close it from driver's seat, hatch arm broke and spewed plastic and metal parts while parked, onto mall parking lot.toyota states "rod has fallen off of motor connect...t-sb-0038-15 power back door does not close properly...big gap on driver side hinge for back hatch."toyota sold me $2299 service contract w/portfolio elite protection plan which says will not cover it.diagnosis from toyota in uploaded file.
Driver side visor hangs down and will not return to up position.there have been several concerns of this type noted a on this database and this should be addressed as a safety recall issue since it obstructs driver visibility.
The power function lift arm broke off from where it connects into the rea door on my 2011 highlander.toyota didn't mentioned about the door hinges related issues and i had to pay for the repair/replacement of the hinges.this, of course didn't prevented nor resolved the issue with the power function lift arm that now is beyond repair; the bolt and screw hole are now stripped.
The glass on the driver side window is off the rails and would come off the window at an angle when its being raised. Currently we cannot roll the window glass up and down. Similar symptons are being seen on the passenger side window now .i have owned cars in the past and this is the first time i am seeing this kind of an issue and toyota refuses to consider this as a quality issue. When i go online, i have seen multiple users having similar issue with toyota highlander and it surprises me that a company like toyota wont do anything to help the customer.
When trying to open the rear hatch from the inside, the beeping sound would not turn office and when i went to investigate what was wrong with the hatch the hydraulic arm had broken and the molding popped off preventing it from working.i took it into toyota dealership and they replaced the whole motor/arm on the hatch.this was covered through my warranty.
The driver side window is off the track and unable to roll up. Prior to the window falling off the track, the driver side window would make a popping noise and would rattle when going up or down. The issue is exactly like the 2010 nhtsa reference #10037962 and tsb reference #t-sb-0010-11.
I have a 2011 toyota highlander.the drivers side sun visor has broken from its internal guide on the visor, making it unsafely and uncontrollably flip & flop around.i have been trying to get a replacement, but the dealer told me there are more than 200 on backorder, and it could take one or more months to get a replacement.further research shows previous recalls on toyota sun visors.so, with more than 200 already needing replacements on what should be a strong part, it suggests a larger problem worthy of your attention and a possible recall. Thanks.
The contact owns a 2011 toyota highlander. The contact stated that the hinges on the driver side of his hatchback was bent. The vehicle was taken to a dealer and was informed of technical service bulletin under nhtsa item number : 10041651 (structure:body:hatchback/liftgate:support device). The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 15,000.
Rear lift gate stopped opening and closing with button on dash.hydraulic arm popped off.was able to reattach, but toyota dealer said it would keep happening because the hinges of the door were separating from the door and to get that repaired i would need to send it to the body shop.the arm has since snapped in half and the door can only be opened/closed manually, but toyota warned me that the hinges will continue to bend.i am fearful as i have two small children and do not trust the door to be safe.toyota dealer will not repair at their expense even though there have been lawsuits and are so many documented cases.
Rear liftgate will not stay open and has fallen on my wife. Toyota has issued a service bulletin but will not fix there problem est. Cost to repair $3000. Vehicle has never been in accident. Problem started about 10 months ago with 46000 miles vehicle now has 56000.
Toyota has issued a tsb for warping hinges for the power rear hatch. The hatch eventually will not close properly or at all.this is mainly due to the motor putting too much pressure on the drivers side hinge.this is happening to all highlander right now with power open close features.even the ones with the new design hinges.toyota is also saying that they will not cover these hinges out of warranty.mine are being replaced right now.but the 2012 highlander rental i have right now has the same issue.and this one would not be included in the tsb since it has the new hinges.i am worried that down the road this hatch will open at high speeds on the highway or anywhere..how would you know sometimes that the hatch did not close?i had to put a accident date above to file.there is no accident, i am trying to prevent one.
Issue with the glass door back (hatch) does not close or open properly. I did make sure the door are closed before starting the vehicle and once vehicle is in motion the glass door (hatch) opens and i had to stop the vehicle and close it, which is veery inconvenience and safety issue.
The contact owns a 2011 toyota highlander. The contact stated that the rear hatch door gate and window suddenly opened while the vehicle was in motion. The contact indicated that the failure was recurring. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed that the rear gate door hinge was bent and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified and no solution was offered. The failure mileage was 80,000.
The open rear automatic door failed, immediately closing on my wife's back as she was removing a bag from the rear cargo area.the failure happened without warning and came down hard.as the vehicle is out of warranty, toyota would not replace at their cost.
The power lift-gate door does not open or close properly, broke about 50000 miles after the 36 months or 36,000 miles. The car was toyota certified. I feel this should be handled as a recall instead of tsb because it was a designed issues reason toyota upgraded with better designed hinges. Also, it will be nice if toyota informed us about the tsb by writing so owner can double check.
Power back door does not close properly, broken at 43,326 miles after the 36 months or 36,000 miles.
I purchase my car from carmax on november 20, 2010.approximately fourteen months after the purchase of this vehicle, i began having trouble with the rear liftgate door not completely closing properly.i took my car back to the dealer on to have this corrected but to date, the dealer has been unable to do so. Thus far, my trucks? automatic liftgate door has been inoperable for over 120 days and the dealer ship has reviewed the issue, took pictures of the affected area and filed a report to toyota headquarters.the service manager at the dealership also advised me to contact a customer service representative and file a complaint.on june 15, 2012, i called your customer service department and spoke with a toyota customer service representative.the representative stated that he submitted my complaint (case # 1206150405) and that toyota is aware of the issue and is working on a fix for the problem and as soon as they were able to determine the fix, they would contact me.it has been over 2 months since i last spoke with someone from your company and i haven?t received any resolution.attached are copies of the repair order that document the dealership?s attempt to repair my car. ...updated 09/12/12 updated 09/19/2012
The automatic latch of the liftgate started to fail. The liftgate not longer opens automatically. I was told it is probably the motor and the parts cost alone is over $1,200.i cannot afford this and am doing without that feature, but annoyed!
The auto liftgate for the rear door would not go up and down. Toyota has refused to fix this problem even though a service bulletin has gone out for this defect!
The automatic latch of the liftgate started to fail. The liftgate not longer opens automatically. The vehicle has been taken to the dealership and they rejected to fix the problem because the vehicle is not longer under warranty.
I have a 2011 toyota highlander. The arm of the automatic lift gate detached from the body of the car. On feb 5, the toyota dealer informed me that not only was the end of the arm stripped and would need to be replaced but that the motor had burned out and would need to be replaced as well. I rarely use the auto lift gate, so i was shocked to hear this.of course it's out of warranty by 3,000 miles. I called toyota and they said there are no known problems but after doing some investigating, there have been quite a few complaints filed over this issue.
I own a 2011 toyota highlander that i bought new.at approximately 7-9 months of owning the vehicle, the pivot or link arm of the automatic lift gate detached from the body frame. I re-attached it as it looks it became loose.after a few other instances in which it got loose again at different intervals, i decided to bring the car to the toyota dealer.i mentioned the issue to the services rep who informed that there was a service bulletin (sb) linked to the liftgate.he mentioned about the sb since it seems that the issue was as a consequence of the hinge doors problem that was being addressed through the sb.the job was made (replacing the hinge).i was asked to pay for it since the sb was due with the car 36 mo. /36k mi. Warranty.i initially objected to this but ended paying the repair because the car had 43,000 miles at the time.the issue was apparently corrected.well, it was not.the screw nut at the end of the arm that attaches the arm to the car frame was stripped and also damaging the thread on the car frame.this arm was never changed by toyota.recently, i brought the car to another toyota dealer that opened near my home and the service manager said it was the first time that he heard about or sees a car with this issue.through different searches looking on how to repair this issue properly and after doing some investigation through the web, have noticed there have been quite a few complaints filed over this same issue.
There is a known defect in toyota highlanders (2010 - 2013) sun visors. The visor no longer stays in either the upright or downward position. It is either at a 45 degree angle when placed in the "up" position or is in a position to slightly obscure visibility in the "down" position. Toyota offered a warranty enhancement (letter zf1) however i am now past the extended warranty period. This is a hazard in driving and would be hazardous to the driver should there be an accident - the visor would hit the driver in the forehead or face should there be an impact.
Front passenger airbag light off. Even when a person is sitting on the seat. Cruise control also stopped working, light wouldn't even come on. Power locking system also ceased working.
Sun visors will not stay in upright position.
Both driver and passenger front side doors will not unlockin 2013 one was replaced at the dealership and the vehicle had to be brought in 3 times to get it right.that with only owning it after 2 years was ridiculous.the actual lock actuator costs approx $250 a piece to replace and we know it is not the fuseit was checked. Fixed in 2013 under warranty but a month after being paid off in 2016 they both stopped working. I refuse to spend $500 on parts and who knows how much more for labor.i will never buy a toyota againthis should definitely be a recall as numerous customers on internet complain about the same exact problems.should be recalled like the sun visors were
The sun visor in the driver side is stuck in half way down position, hit my forehead twice already on this.
The car is sitting still with the engine off. The horn has gone off several times. This has happened in our driveway and in the garage with no one around.
Heater/ac assembly is leaking onto a control module under the dash which i believe the the airbag module and soaking the front drivers and passengerscarpets and padding. Checked for blockage in drain tube. None, used compressed air to blow out drain tube just in case. Did not solve issue. Removed passengers side panel and found that the factory seam of the ac/heater assembly was leaking water when the ac is on. (i have video) the design of the assembly is poor in that the seam splits the assembly left and right rather than top and bottom. Repair of the unit would have required complete removal of dash, steering, etc. To solve this, i placed 3m glass setting butyl tape over the seam such that the seam in the unit was sealed above the condensation drain. This resolved the issue.
On july 19 my daughter hit the button to close the rear lift gate.the handle broke away from the car.it looked like the screw was stripped.took it to the dealer aug 5. They said it is a full rear door replacement with estimated cost of $3000 - $5000.they were very familiar with the problem.after researching online i found this is a common problem with 2008-2012 highlanders and toyota has been aware.there is a class action lawsuit regarding it also.called toyota and they said i am out of warranty and out of luck.
Alarm system goes off randomly hood latch switch to be the problem.. Toyota is charging 300 plus $ for manufacturing defect - check techinical bulleten ( t-sb-0200-10 )i feel its not fairi have
My driver side visor lost all tension. 552(b)(6).
The spring in the driver's side sun visor broke and it now hangs down.it won't stay up or in a position to block the sun.we have a bungy cord to hold it out of our line of vision but cannot use it.it still hangs down a little and "pops out" frequently blocking vision.very dangerous.not under warranty i am told.
When car goes above around 35-45 mph a abnormal whine noise emanates from the transmission
Occasionally, after coming to a stop and then when beginning to accelerate again while turning either right or left, the engine appears to stall for 3 or 4 seconds, then resumes normal acceleration.the engine does not quit or die, it just goes back down to a little above idle speed, then speeds back up again and resumes normal acceleration operation.this has happenedto both my wife and me on more than a few occasions beginning about 8,000 miles on odometer.i erroneously posted this complaint earlier under the 2012 highlander, however, my vehicle is a 2011.
The contact owns a 2011 toyota highlander. The contact was sitting at a complete stop with the brakes depressed. Once the brakes were released, the vehicle abnormally accelerated and crashed into another vehicle, causing that vehicle to crash into a third vehicle. There were no injuries. The manufacturer was contacted they advised the contact to take the vehicle to the dealer to be diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired.the failure was being investigated by the contact's insurance agency. The failure and current mileage was 1500. Updated 09/27/11updated 2/9/12
The contact owns a 2011 toyota highlander. The contact stated that the vehicle suddenly accelerated without warning. The failure occurred while attempting to park with the brake depressed. The vehicle crashed into the cement wall of a garage. The manufacturer took a complaint. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure and current mileages were 8,700.
The vin was not available.
The contact owns a 2011 toyota highlander. The contact stated that the vehicle abnormally accelerated without her depressing the accelerator pedal. The vehicle crashed into a barn. There were no injuries but the vehicle had extensive damages to the front bumper and sides. The police were contacted and called to the scene to assist. The vehicle was towed to an auto center for repairs. The manufacturer was notified who filed a claim on behalf of the contact. The failure mileage was 9,000.

January 16, 2017 was slowly pulling into parking space when vehicle suddenly accelerated and jumped concrete stop and slammed into retaining wall.seat belt held me and airbag did not deploy.car was driveable and was taken immediately to toyota dealer to investigate.vehicle sustained $10,000 in damage and is being repaired and then investigated by toyota.vehicle has always been serviced by dealer and had 59,000 miles.
Pulled into employers parking lot to park when i placed my vehicle into reverse and began backing up the vehicle gained speed, hit another vehicle with my passenger side coming against his driver side, climbed an approximate 10 foot steep embankment, hit a warehouse wall causing a large dent in wall and breaking a 6x6 support post, then sliding down the embankment into same parked vehicle i had hit before, then came to rest. Totaled the vehicle that was hit adjacent mine, $8600.00 damage to my highlander, and not sure yet of cost of building damage.

Front windshield sealer bead not adhered to the glass.toyota tacoma.
For no reason at all my sunvisor on the driver's side will not stay up.it is very distracting trying to drive with it half way down and obstructs my vision.i have not yet put it in the shop yet so don't know how much it will cost to fix it, but it has to be fixed.it is driving me crazy!
The drivers side visor will not stay up flops around blocking full vision . This seems to be an ongoing problem with highlanders and should not be an issue on a part with limited use and a vehicle this new.

The driver's side visor will not stay up any longer. It hangs half way down blocking my vision while driving. This is a dangerous safety issue.
Thanks.
Drivers side sun visor will not stay in upright position or in correct sun blocking position.it is constantly in the partial down position and does not allow for proper visibility.
The rear hatch door sensor goes off when the car makes a turn or is driven over bump.the dealership said the door sensor system must be replaced at an estimated cost of more than $700.also, driver's side visor does not stay up.cost to replace, $300.
Left side sun visor failed, visor drops down in front of driver.
Driver-side sun visor broke and failed to stay in up position, blocking driver's view of road and creating a distraction.car was brought into dealership for repairs on 16 august but service personnelindicated that they had no visors in stock.ordered one that day but could not get the part until mid sept.people at the dealership indicated that they were having trouble getting the part because this was a nationwide problem and supplier could not keep up with demand.
Driver side sun visor will no longer go up all the way. It is stuck partially up and has resistance. It is now only down and blocking my view of driving. This is safety issues and a recall ordered.
The contact owns a 2011 toyota highlander. The contact stated that the driver's side sun visor fell down and failed to remain upright. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was advised that the sun visor needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure and current mileage was 74,000.
Driver side sun visor stuck in down position, and will not move upward out of the way, obstructing driver's view. It can be moved to the side window, but then the side view is obstructed. I hesitate to try and force it up, because it feels like it would break and just flop around. Researching the problem, i have learned of many other owners of similar-vintage toyota highlanders who have experienced the same problem. The toyota dealer quoted over $300 to replace with a new part. This is safety issue that should be recalled by the manufacturer.
The driver's side visor no longer stays up...it falls down halfway which is blocking my vision. This is a very dangerous safety concern. I called the dealer and was told it would have to be replaced for a cost of $318.00.this is outrageous and toyota should be ashamed for not posting a recall on something so dangerous when there are so many complaints.
Driver side sun visor will no longer go up all the way. It is stuck partially up and has resistance. It is now only down and blocking my view of driving. This is a safety issue and need to be recalled.
The driver's side visor is stuck in the down position.this is creating difficulty seeing and i have hit my head on the visor a few times.i took the vehicle to toyota expecting it to be covered under my extended warranty only to be told that the cost was roughly $230 for the part and an additional $30 to install.clearly with this creating a visibility hazard and the sheer number of complaints this should be a factory recall....updated08/20/15 updated 11/27/15
Driver side visor hangs down and will not return to up position.there have been several concerns of this type noted a on this database and this should be addressed as a safety recall issue since it obstructs driver visibility.
The sun visor on the driver side failed and flipped down, it has since remained in the down position and no longer locks in place.i am taller than my wife so it is a problem for me when i drive her car.i just checked the forums and this is such a common problem that you can't even order replacement sun visors since they sellout very quickly.
Driver side sun visor suddenly drops blocking view almost hitting a deer on the road.sun visor (not use often) is now loose and will not go back in place. Sun visor now blocks view which dramatically increase the probability of an accident that could be fatal.
The driver side window is off the track and unable to roll up. Prior to the window falling off the track, the driver side window would make a popping noise and would rattle when going up or down. The issue is exactly like the 2010 nhtsa reference #10037962 and tsb reference #t-sb-0010-11.
As i attempted to lower the visor on the drivers side, the mechanism broke and it would neither stay or or down - blocking visibility.i know a couple of my friends who own highlanders have had the same problem and the dealership i went to said that toyota was going to do some type of "extended warranty" to cover the cost.how do i apply for that?
Driver's side visor won't stay close to the ceiling .
Driver's side visor is broken and stuck at a 45 degree angle, and will not stay in the upright position, obstructing visibility when driving. This appears to be a design issue of this particular model, as there are many similar complaints once doing a simple internet search.
Sun visor will no longer go up all the way.it is stuck partially up and has resistance.it is now only down and blocking my view of driving.
Driver side sun visor no longer stays up and blocks the drivers vision while driving. This seems to be a on going problem with toyota sun visors.
Drivers side visor is broken & will not stay up!only remedy from toyota dealership is to pay for another (probably defective) visor (parts & installation).this is definitely a safety hazard & toyota needs to be professional enough to fix this problem (without charging their customers)!i'm extremely disappointed in this lack of quality from toyota.
The driver side sun visor spring broke preventing the visor from either folding back up or coming down completely, causing a visibility problem and a safety hazard.
Sun visor does not return to upright position. It hangs and obstructs driver's vision. I have read online the excessively high number of toyota owners who experience this problem.it is so dangerous and a fix is cost prohibitive. Toyota should be held responsible for manufacturing a defective part. Vision is probably the most critical component for a driver and when it is obstructed by a part of the manufacturer's neglect, then it should be addressed immediately.
The driver side sun visor spring is broke so that visorblocks driver's vision causing potential safety issue.stays in partially down position. Contacted dealer and toyota customer care. There were over 300 sun visors on back order with no delivery promise date as production of visor has been halted. There are no repairs. Interesting to note that 17 of the 66 complaints in data base for highlander are sun visor issues. Toyota customer care says no recalls, service bulletins.dealer wants over $300 to repair, if he could get a visor.this clearly a generic issue with safety implications!

Driver side visor will not stay up. Blocks drivers vision. Appears to be widespread failure since 2002. Toyota will not cover out of warrant, wants $650 for replacement part!!
