The contact owns a 2010 toyota highlander. The contact stated that when the vehicle was started, the air bag warning indicator illuminated intermittently. The failure recurred on several occasions. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the passenger side air bag module was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 25,000.

My husband and two year old daughter were in a head on collision with a tree after another vehicle came into his lane and he attempted to avoid the head on collision with the other vehicle.no airbags deployed. Significant injuries. The front end of the vehicle wrapped around the tree. Windshield shattered in several places. Right passenger door smashed in. No doors on the car close all the way. Rear passenger door is off the hinge. Car is a total loss. Six airbags in the car and not one of them deployed. Vehicle was purchased brand new. Never been wrecked.

Air bag alarm displays on the screen as a warning. It will intermittently appear sometimes after a 30 minute drive time and now occurs each time the vehicle is driven.this warning will not clear until the car is restarted.this warning occurs in both cold and hot weather.

My family was involved in a multi car accident where we were struck from behind and driven into the vehicle ahead of us (from a near stopped position).the force of impact on the front bumper was hard enough to drive the trailer hitch of the vehicle ahead of us through the license plate on the front bumper.the bumper and grill were severely damages but the airbags did not deploy.driver was taken to er for head/neck injuries which were deemed to be minor.

While driving on the interstate at 70 mph, a deer hit my car.airbags did not deploy, damaged front end, minor damage to the bumper, major damage to engine compartment and windshield was crackedwhy did the airbag not deploy our major concernconcern that will the airbag work after repairs??

The contact owns a 2010 toyota highlander. Two years ago, the dealer replaced the flexible flat cable (ffc) per nhtsa campaign number: 14v168000 (air bags). The ffc that was replaced become faulty. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the ffc needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 38,856.

Front passenger airbag sensor is defective. Front passenger airbag light displays "off" on the dash and on the driver's display panel. Airbag won't deploy in the event of an accident (because the front passenger airbag sensor isn't working). Even while an adult is seated in the front passenger seat, the airbag sensor stays illuminated in the "off" position. It popped up last year and no accidents or any other vehicle issues have occurred during that time period.

Air bag lights comes on and off at different times of the day when operating my vehicle

The contact owns a 2010 toyota highlander. While driving 60 to 65 mph, the contact's vehicle was rear ended. As a result, the contact's vehicle spun out of control and caused the other vehicle to crash into the driver's side door of the contact's vehicle. The contact's vehicle ultimately crashed into a cement wall. The driver's air bag deployed; however, the front passenger air bag failed to deploy. The front passenger sustained injuries to the chest and lower back. The contact sustained injuries to the arms, neck, back, and right ankle. Medical attention was received. A police report was filed. The manufacturer and dealer were not contacted. The cause of the air bag failure was not determined. The vehicle was towed. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 109,000.

The contact owns a 2010 toyota highlander. The contact stated while stopped at an intersection, another vehicle crashed into the right side of his vehicle, but the air bags did not deploy. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated the vehicle was hit hard but could not tell him why the air bags did not deploy. There were no injuries. A police report was available if needed. The manufacturer was contacted and a claim was filed, butno further assistance was offered. The vin was unknown. The failure mileage was 15,000.

The contact owns a 2010 toyota highlander. The contact stated that the driver suddenly lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a cement covert. The air bags failed to deploy.the vehicle sustained extensive damage to the front and middle sections. The driver of the vehicle sustained a broken nose, a concussion, multiple facial abrasions and contusions. A police report was filed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted in reference to the crash. The failure mileage was 77,000.

In june passenger airbag light was sending error messages to the system. The dealer(service department) reported the car needed a specific part for the repair.control panel - toyota (84010-0e050-e0).the part was ordered and we waited.after several weeks it became clear the part was not coming.reached out to both dealership and toyota and was told today it would not be available until the end of the year.this is a non-functioning air bag.toyota has advised me to use an after market replacement, if i can find and they will install(auto nation-libertyville).the second point was to essentially be careful driving... The car is dangerous and toyota does not seem to care!

Accident occurred in southbound lane of i-95 at the dillon, sc exit on 6/14/14. Northbound trailer lost a tire/rim due to mechanical failure and it crossed the medium and impacted our vehicle blowing three (3) airbags. This model and year did not initially have takata airbags installed during production. It is unknown, to date, whether the replacement air bags installed by griffin toyota at rockingham, nc where manufactured by takata and pose a danger to occupants if activated. The takata airbag problem did not get public attention until the october & november, 2014, timeframe.i contacted griffin toyota stating my concern in january, 2015 and was told that there was a possibility the replacement were manufactured by takata and could be defective. I have subsequently contacted toyota customer service and reported same (given case number [xxx]) and them referred me to the local toyota dealership (charles barker toyota in virginia beach, va). This dealership continues to "struggle" to get the information from the toyota headquarters in ca to determine whether the airbags should be replaced (that is, if takata replacements were installed after the wreck)to ensure the occupants safety.please investigate to determine what potentially defective airbags (manufactured by takata) were installed in the june-july 2014 timeframe.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

2010 toyota highlander caught on fire while parked in garage of residence, destroying the highlander and the car parked adjacent to it, along with most of the house. Prior to the fire, there were no issues with the vehicle.the highlander was stationary, with the ignition off and parked in the garage.a subsequent investigation including inspecting burn patterns and thermal damage indicated the fire originated at the front of the toyota highlander on the driver's side where the fuse panel, battery and starter/solenoid were located. All three sourcesof ignition remain energized with the ignition off. The upper portion of the plastic housing on the fuse panel and battery had melted exposing the receivers for the fuses and plates inside the battery. The ends of the receivers had alloying on the receivers, but no failures were noted on fuse panel or battery. Extreme thermal damage was observed on the connector end of the solenoid where most of the facing had melted or was consumed. Lines of demarcation from extreme heat was observed on the remaining section of the solenoid facing. The cableconnecting the battery to the solenoid was not connected to the solenoid due to the extreme damaged to the solenoid. The terminal connector on the cable sustained arcing and/or melting of the metal terminal.the conclusions were that the fire was caused by a failed solenoid attached to the starter on the 2010 toyota highlander. Lab analysis of the starter/solenoid revealed failure at the connection end of the solenoid with beading and arcing on contacts inside the solenoid.

While i was driving, the steering wheellocked and i was not able to move the car. I put the car on pkg and it got locked too. Could not put in reverse or drive. Windows got locked too. The abs system light up. A miracle that few minute before i exited a highway. A tow truck took the car and it has been in the toyota dealer for the past week and they do not now what is wrong with the car

Hydraulics and/or electric on rear lift gate faulty.the automatic lift function does not properly align the back lift door upon closure.the hatch must be closed manually.

Back door "open" lights flash non stop in warm weather.it's so annoying.why is their no recall on this?i bought the car used without knowing this annoying issue

2010 highlander 4wd: system check panel indicates rear window is open when it's not. This happens when i take a left turn or hit a dip in the road. Also if the moon roof is open and closed and when the drivers or passenger window is open and closed the panel will light up, chime and interior lights will all come on. The only time the windows and moon roof seem to effect it is when i am driving on the highway. Otherwise the smaller side roads effect if with no rhyme or reason. Problem has become increasingly worse over time. Mechanic could not find the problem since this does not happen every time the car is running.

When we are driving our toyota 2010 highlander if you hit a bump the door ajar light comes on even though the doors are not opem. We are not able to use the sunroof or open the windows because the door ajar light comes on and the interior light and the beeping for a door open. This is very disttacting when trying to drive. It is getting worse now every time we make a turn ot go over the slighest bump the light comes on and the dinging for the door starts toyota really needs to fix this!it happens all the time when we drive our car'

The contact owns a 2010 toyota highlander.the contact stated that the battery died prematurely.the dealer made two attempts to duplicate the failure by changing the battery.on the third occasion, the contact notified the manufacturer who advise that the vehicle needed to be driven at least 15 miles per day to prevent the battery from going dead because ofthe dessert-like climate in which the contact resided.the vehicle was not further repaired. The current mileage was 11,200 and the approximate failure mileage was 8,000. Updated 01/05/12*ljthe consumer stated toyota finally inspected the vehicle and determined the battery needed to be recharged.

Information center is flashing overheadlights, audible warning bell, visual warning lights flash on drivers display, unable to lock vehicle. This is alll due to the tailgate registering as open when in fact it is closed. If you unplug the sensor, it will not allow access into or out of the rear door. It has now started to not allow the vehicle to be locked - saying there is a door open (rear). If you go around and independently slam doors one at a time and then try to lock with the remote after each, it will eventually allow u to lock after slamming pass ft. Door. The is a notable problem for this series and is becoming quite prevalent . Dealer says don't know what is causing it. Independant mechanic say it is door actuator - which is extremely expensive.

Rear hatch sensor / door ajar defectrear door (hatch) ajar warning light, interior lights and warning sound (bing!) come on (often several times per second, as if flashing) whenever braking, turning, or on uneven surface. Not only is it annoying, the level of disturbance is severely distracting and necessitates taking eyes off the road to check the alarm. On a long trip this causes dangerous levels of aggravation. Multiple users have experienced this. I request that a recall be issued requiring toyota to remedy this, regardless of warranty status, because of the safety issues due to the high levels of aggravation experienced by the users.

When we open a window or the sunroofthe door ajar sign comes on and starts to beep also the interior light comes on. Sometimes it happens when we turn a corner or hit a bump just right. I am afraid of something shorting out and starting a fire! also the front head lights keep burning out we have to replace them at least once a month. The highlander runs great but electrical problems scare me. Toyota really needs to recall and fix this problem.the problem with the door open always happens when we are driving. The problelm happens every time we drive the car.

Safety hazard - beginning in mid 2014, my driver side door lock started to give me problems not locking with the remote. I changed the battery several times to no avail. Soon, the other door locks stopped working one by one. Eventually, none of the locks worked with the remote or by pressing the power lock buttons on the doors. When this problem initially started, i noticed my radio station information would also disappear or be illegible. When i took the vehicle to the dealer, it was over $1,000 to have the actuators repaired, since they had "gone bad". After researching a bit, i noticed several makes, models and years of toyota vehicles are also having these problems. My vehicle only had $50,000 miles at most when all this started, and i maintain the suggested maintenance. I think toyota is well aware of the faulty parts they have installed but don't want to make the necessary repairs due to the cost. This is a major safety issue if someone thinks they have locked their vehicle and could be a victim of a serious crime or other safety hazard.

Door ajar chime goes off and sometimes dome lights flash on when making a turn, stopping, or accelerating from a stop.this primarily happens when the outside temperature is hot (95+).additionally, the radio display will show illegible information occasionally. I've had the radio replaced, but the issue remains.this will go away when the car is turned off and back on and only happens when the external temperature is hot (95+).

The contact owns a 2010 toyota highlander. The contact stated that the hydraulic liftgate would not open as needed electrically and manually. The contact had taken the vehicle to an independent mechanic who opened the liftgate with a mechanical tool. The mechanic then unscrewed an arm piece on the driver's side of the liftgate which allowed him to open the liftgate manually. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer were notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 170,000.

When driving andturning or going over a bump the "door ajar" indicator beeps and the dome lights turn on.brought to auto service repair shop and the left rear door and the rear gate sensor/actuator need to be replaced.$1100!!

Back door states that it is ajar even when it is completely closed. This seems to be safety issue to me and toyota should check and issue an recall.

The door sensor is faulty.its comes on, the warning sound dings and light on control panel lights up saying that a door is ajar.it happens when driving, and none of the doors are open.it is a safety issue because it happens so frequently that if the door is actually opened you would not know since it gives false alarms.after doing some research i have found many others with this complaint, and feel that toyota should issue a recall.

Received a phone callfrom street toyota concerning a recall for my 2010 highlander. They said that they needed 5 minutes to do a recall on the computer. I checked the recalls and didn't find anything. I thinkthat they are up to something. I refused the appointment.thanks

Several times since we purchased the vehicle, the front driver's window will come off track and not allow to roll up the window. This really is not a safety issue however one time the window did not come off track however the door would not open from the inside. We had to roll down the window to open from the outside. This was very scary since my wife drives the vehicle and transports our children and grandson. I was afraid if she were in an accident and the power window did not work she would have to find another way to exit the vehicle. Since the vehicle has been out of warranty, we found another place to fix the issue. We still have issues at times with the window.another issue is that the rear door sensor constantly indicates the door is open when it is not. When this happens, the rear display stops working and says rear door open, the overhead lights flash, and the door chime sounds. I consider this a safety issue since it causes a distraction while driving. With the door chiming, lights flashing, and the rear display showing a message, it takes our attention away from driving.

Every time i accelerate, break, turn, coming to a stop and going over a bump my door ajar chimes on the dash for the back door (hatch).also, the dome lights come on when the chime and picture pops up that my rear gate is ajar. I believe this is a safety issue because i am not the only car with this exact same issue. This needs to be recalled since this potentially is a safety issue.this is a continual and ongoing issue.

While in motion the heads up display indicates that the rear door is open. This comes on periodically when windows are down or when making turns or acceleration. The dome lights come on and the door open chime dings. The computer thinks the rear door is open. I have found this to be an issue while researching on the internet. This is one source with multiple people with the same issue http://www.carcomplaints.com/toyota/highlander/2010/electrical/electrical_system.shtml.

The contact owns a 2010 toyota highlander. The contact stated that the door ajar alarm would sound while turning left. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 45,000.

Door ajar radomly comes on for back rear door liftgatehappens while driving

I was driving my vehicle and it caught fire and completely burned up...it was a total loss.

The rear hatch gives a chime and says it is open when it is closed.this is a 2010 highlander and i see that there are many complaints about this online.this is a saftey issue because you never know if it is actually open or if it actually closed but just chiming for no reason. It happens very intermittently, but often when going over a bump but other times there is no pattern, it just happens sometimes and not others.it happens when stationary and when moving.it has been happening for a couple of years at least.

Faulty rear door ajar sensor reports rear door open intermittently while door is closed causing interior lights, warning lights, and chimes.started with only turns, acceleration, deceleration, but rapidly deteriorated to near constant failure, particularly in warm weather.initially started near 2 years ago (25k miles), but was only mildly irritating.now vehicle cannot be locked with this condition.

In the last few months, my door ajar light and door chime have been intermittently coming on when turning either direction. All doors are closed, and still the lights come on and chime. This is causing me concern as i have a young child and am unaware of whether doors are truly closed properly. Please open an investigation as this is not the only complaint regarding this matter.

The rear latch on this vehicle failed.it cost $600 to repair

Driver door lock quick working. Could only unlock with key or by crawling over passenger seat. Took to dealer and was told it was actuator. They fixed for almost $600. Less than month later passenger door lock did same thing. Called dealer and was told i would have to pay to get it fixed.let it stay that way until may 2015. Local mechanic fixed for little over $300. About 2 weeks later, driver door lock will not unlock at times when it will not, thekey now won't work. Have to crawl across passenger seat to unlocki have numerous complaints on internet about this issue. Actuators need recalling bb

The back door ajar, interior light and a bing sound comes on when i turn left or open any window? searched the internet and found many related complaints. Please issue a recall.

Open-door warning keeps popping in the dash when driving, as well as the light inside inside the car (consistent with an open door). The problem started at first as the car would be turning at very low speed. It has gotten worse over the next 2 weeks and now happens almost anytime there is a bump in the road, or when cornering, as well as when hitting the brakes, even gently.i changed all the door sensors but it did not make any difference.

When stationary or driving, dashboard door-open light stays on. All dome lights stay on when driving unless turned completely off on dashboard but they will still flicker and warning sound will go on and off when driving, turning a corner, or going over a bump on any road.when locking the car with the door-remote, thewarning soundgoes on and stays on until car is unlocked. Car must be locked by hand to stop warning sound. Car was sent to toyota repair center for electrical repairs, but this warning light issue was not repaired. There is a bump in the rear hatch from backing up in a garage.service dept. Said rear door needed to be repaired because rear hatch would not close correctly. However, rear hatch has always closed and still closed. Toyota could not guarantee a new hatch or repaired body work would fix the problem. Warninglights problem started months before rear door issue.toyota offered to turn warning sound off, but i feel it is a safety issue. I routinely checked if any door is open.

Door sensors show door open, door chimes, and interior lights flash when in motion driving over light bump on all roads, highway or city streets.and/or when driving from the street into driveway at 1mph at all times as up over slight curb. Happens when i shift the gears into motion. Started in sept. 2015 to current date.

We have a 2010 toyota highlander and the dome lights turn on & the door ajar alarm sounds while turning left & sometimes while turning right. This has also happened when rolling up or down the passengers side window. Took it to dealer & they could not diagnosed or repair it.

Rear hatch sensor ajar whenever the windows are open and car exceeds 30 mph. Windows must remain close for the sensor chime and activation to cease. Seems to be a problem with the rear hatch sensor. The car has been owned for 8 years and has 77000 miles on the odometer. No accidents.

I haveaback door on all the times because theback door not closecompletely ,itry to fix , butdid not help.finallyi had toremove the electrical sw.andicould notopen the back door ,but i do have problemwhen i have a flat tire

Back door ajar, interior light and a bing sound come on when i turn left

2010 highlander 4wd: system check panel indicating the rear door is open, when it's not. Sometimes the indicator only chimes (& overhead light blinks) when we take a left or right turn. Sometimes it chimes continuously as soon as we get the car into gear. The back door is most definitely closed each time; the back door indicator is malfunctioning.

The trunk door sensor constantly goes off and on while driving, so says that the trunk door is ajar when it is not. This tends to happen more when it is warmer, the car turns to the right or the windows are down. It is a distraction while driving.

Open door chime and interior light come on intermittently when making sharp turns or bumps

The brake actuator assembly and brake booster pump assembly had a recall on it but my truck was not having problems then. I noticed that when i start braking, the truck speeds up. Then all the light on the dash board came on. When my vehicle started having problems i call and they told me that the recall had expired 3 months earlier for my vehicleand it was up to the owner to have it fixed. I didn't get a notice and i wasn't aware of such recallso why am i liable for the repairs. I need help with this please.

The rear liftgate door ajar keeps going of every time i turn or hit a bump. When this warning keeps going of i do not know if any other door is open and risk one of my children falling out of the car when driving and risking death or injury. The only reason i know it is the rear liftgate is that i found this issue all over the internet and found youtube videos on the issue

Door sensor broken. Goes on and off repeatedly while in motion on street and highway specially when making turns regardless of speed. Happens more frequently on hot days. It has been a long term problem and would cost too much money to fix. This should be manufacturer's responsibility.i've found similar complaints online including videos on youtube demonstrating the particular 2010 toyota highlander issue.

While driving and making a right turn the red door indicator light on the dashboard lights up,the car chimes and the interior ceiling light goes on and off.

While driving (in motion), frequent warning message comes on the display panel that says the back (rear) door is open when it's not. Also, interior lights come on, and there is the warning / beep that keeps flashing. Sometimes, when the back gate alert comes on,doors get unlocked. This has been going on since september 2017.

2010 highlander 4wd:system check panel i indicating the rear door is open, when it's not. Been to dealer 3 times. Car has 6000 miles on it. The rear door open indicator effects door locking ability with key fob as well as continual chime indicating rear door is open in conjunction with turning dome light off and on. Dealer thought it was rear door strike plate. Adjusted accordingly. This was not the problem. 3rd visit to dealer still trying to pinpoint why this is happening so far no luck. Electrical bad door sensor faulty electrical door switch this problem is very annoying and now times consuming 3 visits to the dealer and still no solution. Rear door open indicator initially made to stop by rolling down driver side window at highway speed. Indicator also made to go off when road turns to the left only. <- ? moisture causing short in rear door electrical switch? maybe.

The door ajar indicator on the dash is lit up 100% of the time even though it appears that all doors are closed. This problem started approx. 2 years ago. In addition if the car sits for more than 1 day, it drains the battery and the car has to be jumped.when making a left hand turn or start from a stopped position, the warning sound dings. And the key fob cannot be used to lock the car. My mechanic discovered that it is the rear hatch sensor that is faulty. Maybe the sensor is faulty or maybe i think the hatch is closed and latched and it really isn't or it is but at any moment, the latch could release and the hatch fly open.after doing a google search on this problem, i discovered that there are a lot of other people are having the same issue with their highlander....i have attached a file that contains screen shots of others with this issue. I stopped cutting and pasting after 17 pages. This as a safety issue because it compromises the quality of the battery and there really could be a door ajar when you think the warning light on the dash is just from the faulty hatch sensor. (heaven forbid a child should fall out of the back seat when driving down the road). I would like to see toyota take responsibility for this problem and issue a recall.

Indicator warning for rear back door open when itis secure and locked. Interior lights go on as well as warning bell.vehicle brought to toyota service dept.state they cannot duplicate-however it is becoming more frequent each time i drive vehicle.

In january of 2013, i took my highlander into a dealer's service department to diagnose a problem with my driver's side front automatic lock, which had completely stopped working at around 46,000 miles. This means i had to physically press the lock as not even the key would work. I had to open the passenger side door, crawl across the seat, & unlock the driver's side door in order to get in my car. I was told by the dealer that the problem was the door lock actuator, which went out, & it was no longer under warranty. Rather than paying $575 at the dealer, i found a mechanic that ordered the part & replaced the actuator for less than $400. Less than three months later, at just over 50,000 miles & only 2.5 years of owning the car, the front passenger side actuator went out. Needless to say, i had some words with the dealer, & they agreed to do a one-time "courtesy" fix, replacing it at no cost. Over the next few months, both of the rear door actuators went out. Not wanting to spend $800+ to replace the actuators, i decided to live with risk & annoyance this caused, hoping there'd soon be a recall. Well, here we are in march 2015, & at 87,000 miles, guess what? the front driver's side actuator is going out again. Searching the web for this issue, i found hundreds of similar complaints from other toyota owners, over a variety of models & years. This is a huge safety issue & toyota needs to recall all affected vehicles. I can come up with at least a dozen scenarios where this issue could cause serious harm to the car's occupants. If i can't get to my child in the back seat because i've been in a wreck & door is locked; if i am car-jacked b/c the door wouldn't lock; if i have to enter through the passenger's side to unlock my door and x/y/z happens... I've already locked myself out due to this issue (car thinks doors are unlocked & won't warn me my keys are inside)! help!

The contact owns a 2010 toyota highlander. The contact stated that when he turned the headlights on, he could not see objects on the side of the vehicle. While driving approximately 35 mph and various speeds if he hit a dip or curve in the road, the visibility would drop to less than 2 feet in front of him. He noticed the issue difference whenever he had to use the headlights. He took the vehicle to the dealer and was informed that there was no solution to the problem. He called the manufacturer and was advised to file a lemon law complaint. The current mileage was approximately 3,500. The failure mileage was approximately 60. Door sensors show door open, door chimes, and interior lights flash when in motion driving over light bump on all roads, highway or city streets.and/or when driving from the street into driveway at 1mph at all times as up over slight curb. Vehicle accelerated of its own accord.on several succeeding occasions this toyota highlander has accelerated of its own accord.vehicle has never crashed and after pulling over and placing vehicle in park, vehicle did not continue to accelerate.this toyota has been serviced 3-4 times for this problem, including a specialist from another state who traveled to baton rouge to make a thorough inspection involving 2-3 hours.verdict was no visible or other problem detected.two months ago there was another recall on this vehicle and toyota made the repair in the computer.last week on may 20, 2014 i received another recall regarding this vehicle.this vehicle involves a steering column assembly containing a spiral cable with electrical connections involving the air bag.should the driver air bag become deactivated, it could cause it not to deploy in the event of a crash which could increase the risk of injury to the driver in certain types of crashes.the remedy is currently unavailable and toyota will send a second owner notification letter when the remedy is available.despite numerous letters and repeated telephone calls to toyota, i have not received any assistance to purchase a new toyota highlander that does not encompass these types of safety recalls.i chose not to join a group lawsuit because i knew this would be futile.nonetheless, i am considering looking into hiring an attorney to pursue the replacement of this vehicle.thank you for your attention.

On pennsylvania tpke toyota highlander 2010 model bought a month ago just stopped in the middle of the road after an hour drive, car was towed to the dealer. They stated that it has a computer problem and that was replaced. The was returned after a week. On our way back again after approx. An hour drive the car stopped in the middle of the highway. We escaped 2 major accidents by god's grace. The car is still with rockland toyota. This time they said the fuel pump was the problem, then they said it is loose wire etc. Etc.

My vehicle experienced a loss of oil pressure and massive oil loss while being driven due to the failure of the oil cooler line while driving on pa 291 in philadelphia. It had to be towed. This is apparently a common problem for the highlander and the lexus rx350.

The contact owns a 2010 toyota highlander. While driving approximately 60 mph, a rattling noise was heard underneath the vehicle. The failure occurred without warning. The dealer replaced the water pump, which was rusted and fractured. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 55,973.

Twice in september 2014, as i was approaching a stop light, i pressed the brakes and slowed to nearly a stop.the engine suddenly accelerated very high, and if i had not already had a foot on the brakes, i would have gone into an intersection.the engine was running so high that it was difficult to keep it from moving.i shifted into neutral, came to a complete stop, and while the transmission was in neutral, took my foot off the brake pedal.the engine immediately returned to normal idle.this same sequence happened both times.this has happened twice this month, but these are the first occurrences since i purchased the vehicle new.i called the toyota dealer, and the service person said that if the vehicle isn't demonstrating that behavior when i bring it in, they would not be able to find what caused it.they indicated that the vehicle data recorder would not record such an event.they said they would add a note about this to the record they have on this vehicle (they have done all the service since i purchased it from them).i have already decided that should it happen again, i will trade the vehicle.i don't like having to keep my hand on the gearshift, ready to shift into neutral.i saw a report in usatoday that sudden acceleration in toyotas is being investigated again.i wanted to add my experience to the mix.

We were traveling on the interstate after about a 7 hour drive and the low oil pressure warning display was flickering on and off but never stayed on consistently. I pulled over and there was no oil in the engine, i mean it was bone dry. I'm truly surprised the car was still operating. When oil was put in, it poured, and i mean poured, right back out. We had to be towed because the car could not be driven. It was determined that the engine oil cooler line was leaking.

The contact owns a 2010 toyota highlander. While driving, the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact powered off the engine while in traffic. Once restarted, the vehicle was able to be driven to his residence. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. In addition, the contact stated that the vehicle was burning oil, which caused it to stall. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact called the manufacturer and was informed that the vin was not included in a recall. The approximate failure mileage was 158,297.

Stopped at a traffic light with the brake applied, the engine began to rev uncontrolled and began to move forward towards the car ahead of us, even with the brake fully applied.to stop the problem, the transmission was shifted to park and ignition turned off.

The contact owns a 2010 toyota highlander. While driving approximately 30 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was able to be restarted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure recurred on several occasions. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 3,000.

The contact owns a 2010 toyota highlander. The contact stated while his wife was driving approximately 30-40 mph, there was an abnormal noise detected. A message indicating to pull over was flashing. The oil pressure warning light was illuminated. The driver checked under the hood and noticed that the oil level was extremely low. The vehicle was towed to folsom lake honda (12505 automall pkwy, rancho cordova, ca 95742, (916) 367-4178) to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the oil cooler hose needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and informed of the failure. The contact was informed that the vehicle was not covered under warranty. The failure millage was 129,000.

While driving on the interstate at 70 mph, a deer hit my car.airbags did not deploy, damaged front end, minor damage to the bumper, major damage to engine compartment and windshield was crackedwhy did the airbag not deploy our major concernconcern that will the airbag work after repairs??

I was driving my vehicle and it caught fire and completely burned up...it was a total loss.

I have a 2010 toyota highlander 4 cylinder that has an engine which is accelerating and surging despite that it has received the recall "fix" for the recent gas pedal recall. Even after the recall modification to the gas pedal, the engine's tachometer jumps (often up to 5000 rpm) while traveling at a steady speed or not accelerating. The problem occurs every time it is driven and is easily duplicated. My local dealer service had the car for over 3 weeks and was working closely with toyota corp technicians. They were able to reproduce and observe the problem and acknowledged it. But the vehicle was not producing any diagnostic "error codes"and they were unable to diagnose or repair this vehicle. In a strange twist they returned the vehicle to me and "changed their tune". The dealer then said toyota tech's stated it was a normal gear change function and that there was nothing they could do about the surging. The problem has gotten progressively worse and i am about to take it back to the dealer and go another round. Problem occurs at both high and low speeds, with and without use of cruise control. The vehicle is less than 1 year old and the engine behavior is quite scary. I do not want to have my wife and children get into an accident. Please get involved. In my opinion, this problem seems to be related to the vehicles electronic engine controls. A.s.i.

The contact owns a 2010 toyota highlander. The contact stated that she had a back up camera installed on her vehicle which had no sensors on it to alert her of objects behind her. She contacted toyota who stated that the camera she has doesn't have sensors; however, they could be added at an additional expense of $635.00.the vin was not available. The failure mileage and current mileages were approximately 50.

Visor on driver's side dropped down and will not stay up. It is an absolute hazard.

We have a 2010 toyota highlander and the dome lights turn on & the door ajar alarm sounds while turning left & sometimes while turning right. This has also happened when rolling up or down the passengers side window. Took it to dealer & they could not diagnosed or repair it.

The contact owns a 2010 toyota highlander. The contact stated when the vehicle was parked he was notified that his headlights and brake lights were illuminated. The contact was able to shut the lights off; however, they came back on after they were shut off. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The failure and current mileages were approximately 2,000.

The back up lights on my highlander are almost non existent.i have tried to use them to back up at night and there is not light at all. You can barely see anything at night using these "back up lights"i feel this is a safety hazard.i live out in the country and need these back up lights to see any obstruction at night. I took the highlander to my mechanic and he said that was just how toyota made these back up lights.i feel this is insufficient and dangerous when trying to back out of my drive way at night. I cannot believe no one has addressed this problem .

2010 toyota highlander rear latch was defective. Inside lights kept going on and chimed. Latch replacementcost $601

False back door ajar warning. Safety concern

Etc.

Uncontrollable acceleration 2010 toyota highlander. 3 times on 2-10-10.

I was backing out of a parking space at a taco bell when i noticed a car coming so i decided to stop and pull back into my parking space to let it pass. When i stepped on the brake my car suddenly accelerated in reverse and i stepped on the brake again, but my car continued to accelerate. I turned my car to avoid hitting the car and any other cars that may have been behind me. My car continued to accelerate and jumped a curb, crossed over a sidewalk and onto a lawn area behind taco bell. I stepped on the brake again trying to get my car to stop. I turned my wheels to keep from going into the drive up lane and finally got my car to stop.

When steering either left or right during forward or reverse movement of the vehicle, there's a loud clunk noise.

We have a brand new toyota highlander (2010) with only 2200 miles on it, we have recently noticed that at highway speeds between 58 - 64 mph, it consistently makes a very noticeable, resonating vibration sound. Car is under warranty and we took it to a toyota dealer to have it checked on 7/15/10. They confirmed the problem but could not identify whyit is occurring. They drove another brand new highlander from their lot for comparison purposes and told us that the other highlander had the exact same issue. We were told that toyota might issue a technical safety bulletin (tsb) about the problem and a proposed solution, we were then advised that we should ask about a tsb every time we bring the car in for routine service.bottom line - the issue still existsand noone seems to know why. We were told to drive the car because there was nothing to be concerned about that was obvious. So, we are now driving the car - and still listening to it vibrate between 58 - 64 mph. I have been a lifelong toyota owner and bought this new highlander even though toyota was receiving so much bad press. We have had a number of annoying quality control issues with it - but this one is perplexing and disconcerting. I am hoping that nhtsamight get toyota's attention on this matter as it is highly unusual and unexplainable by toyota's own technicians. Thanks for any assistance you can offer. I would be happy to cooperate with any follow-up action nhtsa might choose to take.

The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to the dealer to receive a recall repair for nhtsa campaign number: 14v743000 (seats), but the remedy did not provide a permanent repair. The dealer would only disconnect the heaters with copper strand heating elements. The contact had extensive back pains and used the feature daily to prevent the back pains. The contact indicated that without the option of the seat heater, she would experience back pains while operating the vehicle. The manufacturer was notified of the failure.

On july 16, 2014 i turned my car on, ready to return home to new jersey from brooklyn, at this point the brake light signal, abs, and warning icon all turned on. The camera displayed a text stating brake malfunction and giving instructions to park the car immediately. I called the toyota 800 number and followed their recommendations, l had the car tow to the nearest toyota dealer, bay ridge toyota of brooklyn. I picked up the car on the 18 th, i was told they ran all tests an they found everything properly installed.they scan test clean all dtc performed initialization and calibration of the linear solenoid valve. They road tested the vehicle and confirmed repair, no lights on, at a cost of $227 plus tax. Today the 28 of october as i turned my car on i face the same problem all the brake lights, abs, warning, and display text indicatingmalfunction, to stop the car. I again called for tow went to toyota of hillside in nj, explained what happened. Was ask why i had the car tow after telling the service representative about the brakes. How can anyone drive a vehicle that is warning you not to do so. I also spoke to the service manager stating that i don't think i should pay for this service again since its been only 1500 miles or a little over 90 days since the same problem. Am sure there's more to this.thank you

Hybrid breaking system.the hybrid breaking system (actuator, accumulator, & pump) on my 2010 highlander hybrid are faulty and have failed.my family purchased this vehicle from toyota dealer when it was approximately 1.5 years young, and have performed all necessary service at camelback toyota dealership in a timely fashion.(23 service history reports shown on carfax.)our highlander has less than 100k miles and is less than 10 years old (approximately 8 years old).the faulty hybrid breaking system is a known issue, that toyota has issued 'limited extended warranties' on at least 736k vehicles (which would cover my repair free of charge if my vehicle was older ('wep-zg1' covers full replacement of breaking system at no cost to customer for vehicles with 150k miles or less or 10 years or newer) and full recalls on the prius breaking system.camelback toyota first quoted me $2,500 for the repair' but that first repair was only to replace the accumulator and the pump.the next day, the brake malfunction lights came on, and now they're quoting me another $2,064 to replace the actuator.my family has cared for this car properly, and done nothing that would cause a total break malfunction.this is a malfunctioning break system that toyota (and their parts manufacturer) need to be responsible for.a breaking system is arguably the most important system on any vehicle!this is putting my family, and other families at risk.i ask the ntsb to force a recall on my 2010 highlander hybrid model.thank you.further evidence:in 2013, toyota recalls the prius: http://www.nbcnews.com/business/toyota-recalls-prius-lexus-hybrid-faulty-brakes-6c10208931highlander hybrid 2008 complaints:http://www.carcomplaints.com/toyota/highlander_hybrid/2008/brakes/service_brakes.shtml http://www.carproblemzoo.com/toyota/highlanderhybrid/abs-brake-fail-problems.php

Vehicle was on city street coming to a stop brake pedal went al the way to the floor and skid icon came on lucily i stopped just in time to avoid a wreck. Toyota said was brake actuator going bad .same problem as other toyotas that were recalled,as my vehicle was not on recall list toyota wont fix it under recall and want me to pay $3000 to fix it .maybe that will fix it? why cant a recall fix a proclem with all brake actuators as there is obviously a defect in actuators. Thankslarry

Abs lights are on and it says to check the vehicle by dealer.this might be with all the hybrids.

My 2010 highlander hybrid is presenting a code c1391 for an issue with the brake actuator assembly and brake booster pump assembly. Currently my abs, traction control, and check brake system lights are on with a message not to drive the vehicle. Toyota has recognized this issue and offered free repairs, extending coverage until dec 31, 2020. The customer support program bulletin to support this is pol19-06. This issue raised a big enough issue for toyota to extend coverage. It needs to be a recall, as the total repair costs exceed $3500 in most cases for a part toyota has essentially admitted was defected.

The contact owns a 2010 toyota highlander.the contact stated that while driving the brakes failed and the brake pedal went to the floor.the vehicle was taken to the dealer for a diagnostic testing, who stated this was normal for vehicle with abs.the manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vin was not available.the approximate failure mileage was 43,000.

As i was driving traffic came to a sudden stop.i applied the brakes hard, however was not able to stop before hitting the vehicle in front of me. As part of the necessary vehicle repairs after the accident, to get the brakes to operate again properly, the brake load sensor - an electric sensor on the brake pedal that feeds back to the braking computer system how hard brakes are being applied was found to have failed, presumably at the time as a result of the impact.this malfunction trips a warning in the brake system, and affects operability of the brakes.recently on june 18, 2012 while driving on a local street at 25 mph, a vehicle passed a stop sign crossing in front of me necessitating i brake hard to avoid an accident. While an accident was avoided, immediately following this a brake malfunction warning came on, and the brake system stopped operating normally. The dealer found that due to the hard braking, the brake pedal became misaligned, and the brake load sensor failed again.this pattern leads me to believe that in instances of hard braking, damage to the brake pedal and/or load sensor can occur, causing a loss of brake power possibly resulting in an accident.

Brake actuator assembly and brake booster pump assembly are vibrating every 30 seconds periodically and making violent noise. This is also happening when i push the brakes. The car is not safe to drive. Toyota refused to replace the unit, stating that their program expired 12/31/2020.they said they published this: "customer support program bulletin (zkc):repair coverage for brake actuatorassembly and brake booster pump assemblyon certain 2008-2010 my highlander hybridvehicles". Https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2019/mc-10164925-9999.pdfwe have never received this notice before.this looks like a way for toyota to bypass a major recall and reduce the costs of replacements. Nhtsa may be enabling this kind of evasive behavior.

This morning at 7:45 am est my car self broke while in drive and traveling at 45mph. I was lucky the driver behind me was able to avoid hitting me. Is this a know problem? i am fearful to drive me car again

I'd stopped on the residential street to let a car pass.after the car passed, i attempted to pull up along the curb to park, but the car accelerated and crashed into a tree.the brakes did not respond and the steering did not seem to respond.the space between acceleration and impact was 10-15 feet. It's like the car had a mind of its own, and i had no control. No warning lights came on and the airbags did not deploy.the passenger side headlight was smashed, the hood was smashed, front bumper and passenger side fender were also smashed.the only thing that stopped the car was the tree.once it stopped, i simply turned the ignition off.i immediately called my insurance company and they told me to tow it to san francisco toyota for mechanical inspection.i called san francisco toyota and said that i was towing my car down and was told they'd be waiting for it.later that day i received a call from don's autobody telling me they had my car.i confirmed with sf toyota and they said they sent the car there and the auto body work had to be done prior to a mechanical inspection.on 4/15/13, i was informed the car had been repaired and was sent to sf toyota.i repeatedly called sf toyota to see if they had found any mechanical defects.on 4/16/13, i was contacted by don's autobody and told that toyota refused to inspect the car.since we don't know if the car is safe to drive, the person from the autobody shop suggested we call toyota usa.toyota usa opened a case and has enlisted bill from engineering analytics to inspect the car.bill plans to inspect the car on 4/30/13.he will collect data and send it to toyota.toyota said they'll review the data and will mail us the results within 30 business days.when we expressed concern that toyota waited 6 weeks to look at our car (which the autobody said they've driven), toyota had no comment.

My wife and i have noticed that our new 2010 highlander hybrid limited has a delay from the time you push the brakes to the time the brakes respond.this occurs consistently, especially at low speeds like when parking or stopping at a stop sign.i would guess that this is the same issue that the prius has.this could be a real safety issue--especially for pedestrians since the car takes more distance to stop due to this gap.my wife actually experiences a small surge prior to the gap in braking.i just did a quick web search and saw dozens of similar complaints from other highlander hybrid owners.thanks.

2010 toyota highlander limited hybrid--braking problems.when the brakes are first applied, they are soft and mushy.if you slam on the brakes in an emergency, they stop, but in everyday stop and go traffic, the brake pedal goes down but doesn't seem to engage until you really put some weight on it. This has been going on since i bought the car 2 months ago.

The contact owns a 2010 toyota highlander. While driving approximately 20 mph the contact applied pressure to the brake pedal but the brakes did not respond. A warning brake failure light illuminated on the dashboard. The contact was able to drive onto the side of the road and turn the vehicle off.after turning the vehicle back on the warning light did not illuminate nor did the failure recur. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was being diagnosed. The vin was unavailable. The approximate failure mileage was 22,400.

I was driving on a straight and level road, at approximately 30 mph. Traffic came to a sudden stop and i applied the brakes in a hard and sudden manner, but the vehicle failed to stop in time, though i believe it should have. No airbags deployed. My vehicle struck the vehicle in front of me, also pushing that vehicle into the one in front of it.during repairs, it was discovered the brake pedal mechanism had failed at some point, requiring replacement.

On december 2, 2009, i took delivery of a new 2010 toyota highlander sport model, with a v-6 engine and 2 wheel drive. This vehicle subsequently was identified in the january & february, 2010 recall notices as being one of the vehicles affected by the sticking gas pedal problem.however, preceding the recall notices, on january 15, 2010, i experienced a brake pedal fade while stopped on level flat ground at a red traffic signal. I pressed down on the brake pedal harder to ensure that i did not drift into the rear end of the car stopped in front of me. Upon pressing down harder on the brake pedal, the "hill assist" warning buzzer sounded even though my wheels were not spinning or in danger of spinning. When the traffic signal changed to green a minute or so later, i removed my foot from the brake pedal and lightly depressed the accelerator to start moving forward. I found that i had to apply substantial ( greater than normal) pressure to the accelerator pedal to make the car move forward. This caused great concern because of the possibility of moving forward too quickly from a dead stop and hitting the vehicle in front of me.i took the vehicle to my selling dealer the following day to have the vehicle checked out. I was advised that the car's computer did not show any defaults and that all symptoms were normal. I was further advised to stop pressing on the brake pedal so hard. However, my concern is that whenever the "hill assist" system is engaged (i can engage it at any time at will), there is a distinct possibility that the extra pressure needed to start the car moving forward will cause me to accelerate into the vehicle in front of me. I have reason to believe that this condition is computer related and presents an imminent danger to both myself and other motorists driving a similar equipped toyota highlandertherefore, i am requesting that an investigation be commenced immediately in light of toyota's massive recall problems. Thank you.

While driving at low speeds there is a popping noise in the steering column. The steering wheel can be turned slightly left or right and the noise is heard.

There is a clunking noise when turning at low speed and after inspecting the cv joint, i realized this is not a cv joint problem. Upon further research, i now realize this noise is associated with the "intermediate steering shaft" which needs to be replace.

The contact owns a 2010 toyota highlander. While driving at approximately 5 mph and making a right turn, there was an abnormal noise coming from the steering wheel. The failure recurred numerous times. The vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing. The mechanic stated that the intermediate shaft and tsb needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 48,800.

Three times reported feeling a rattle in the steering on right turn ln rough road to toyota service dept.three times they deny saying 3 people (including the service manager) drove it and didn't feel anything.i told them that when there's more weight on the front end, like braking downhill and turning right can feel it more.but the tested on flat ground in the area of motor imports downtown honolulu.i even reported in earlier servicing that the car drifts from side to side on the freeway.as if the steering is loose.and they test drove and said it was fine.this is the last day of my warranty and i googled the problem to find others with the same problem and even a diagram of the fix on: http://www.underhoodservice.com/article/110175/tech_tips_toyota_tacoma_makes_rattling_noises_on_rough_roads.aspx .this shows that in 2012 they fixed it on some toyota's:a newly designed steering intermediate shaft (p/n 45220-04020) has been made available to address this condition, but that's 2012.my car is a 2010 before the fix.the solution is toinstall a steering wheel holder. Other reports at http://www.edmunds.com/toyota/venza/2009/consumer-reviews/2009-venza-steering-column-rattle.html?style=101109188&sub=&reviewid=4641729. Show that the problem is about $1500 to fix and somebody even had a steering column failure.

The contact owns a 2010 toyota highlander. The contact stated that when driving in excess of 50 mph, the vehicle would uncontrollably drift from side to side. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the contact was told that the failure was due to the electronic power steering. The contact was also told there was no option to have the vehicle repaired. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 1,000 and the current mileage was 5,000.

From a stop with a turn in either direction on any service in any weather, an audible noise and jolting vibration telegraphs through the steering wheel. Feels like a loose part that may separate in the steering assembly and render the vehicle uncontrollable. First raised with momentum/fowler toyota of tulsa 6/14/14 with refusal to repair as a warranty claim @ 41430 miles (dealer would not note in service check-in but promised to inspect). Raised again with jim norton toyota that would not inspect without the payment of a $100 inspection fee @ 60459 miles. Not sure of safety implications but concerned that failure of the steering shaft could occur. No repair made to date since warranty and/or safety issues could not be resolved. Noted similar complaints in other nhtsa complaints for 2010 highlanders.

Poor intermediate steering shaft assembly!popping noise with clunking feel in steering wheel when turning at slow speeds and hitting bumps. Began around 60,000 miles and has progressively gotten worse (now at about 102,000 miles) took in at onset and told it's the intermediate steering shaft assembly.as it's getting worse, it's starting to feel very unsafe. This looks to be a very frequent issue when looking into it online. Don't understand how this is not a recall! my family is trusting toyota and nhtsa to make correct decisions for our safety!

The contact owns a 2010 toyota highlander. The contact stated that while driving and making right turns, there was an abnormal clunking sound on the driver's side front of the vehicle. Adams toyota kansas city located at 501 ne colbern rd, lee's summit, mo 64086, (816)358-7600, was contacted and informed of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and informed of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 79,000.

When turning steering wheel a clicking noise is heard.there is a tsb out on this problemwhile vehicle is in motion a noise was heard, and a loud humming noise is coming from the rear.vehicle was inspected to find problem and differential assembly need to be replaced.there is a tsb out on this problem

The contact owns a 2010 toyota highlander. While driving 25 mph when the steering wheel drifted to the left and then to the right and he lost control of the vehicle. He also applied the brakes and they did not engage; however, after 5 seconds the vehicle began driving normal. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated that this was not a safety concern and to continue driving the vehicle. They were also unable to duplicate the failure and no repairs were made to the vehicle. The failure mileage was 1,280 and the current mileage was 1,295.

Clunk in steering when turning at low speed from stop found to be intermediate steering shaft-replaced at dealer.google search show very common in several different toyota vehicles.

Vehicle makes a popping noise when you make a turn.noise can be heard when turning left or right at any speed.

Steering wheel would exhibit a loud clunking noise when turning wheel left or right. Did not feel safe to drive. Toyota mechanic diagnosed the problem as the intermediate steering shaft which he recommended replacing. Toyota knows of this problemsince they issued a technical service bulletin (tsb) t-tt-0223-13 for this repair. There is also an nhtsa # 10062035 on this situation. Toyota should pay for this costly repair since i feel it is a safety defect and should be recalled

When steering either left or right during forward or reverse movement of the vehicle, there's a loud clunk noise.

Steering has popping and clicking whenturning from a stopped position.the steering has alwayssounded like it's straining/hard to turn. Popping gets worse and more frequently. Itshould be recalledlike it has on other toyota models that have resulted in steering failure. Intermediate shaft is faulty on many toyota highlanders but no recall has been issued. For 2010 model year.

When turning to the left loud clunk noise, dealer claims it is a intermediate shaft cost to repair over 800.00 this is not thefirst complain that i see on this vehicle, and a change was made by the mfg, guess they still have problem with the design on fixing this issue.toyota do a recall you know you are doing wrong, stand by your product and fix the cars you manufacture... Or i will kindly do a survey not to purchase again.

I bought my highlander used in march 2016. The car has had the clunking noise since i bought it but i didn't know it was a known issue with toyota. I bought an extended warranty but of course it doesn't cover the defect. I am very upset because i have paid for a warranty that doesn't fix what is wrong with the car. I also feel like it falls on the dealership and they should have fixed it before selling. Even though it is not considered a safety issue i don't want it to become a safety issue in the future. I don't feel like i should have to come out of pocket $650 to fix an issue that is known with the manufacturer.

The steering wheel came off while driving.

Apparently this is a very common problem from my research and my discussion with the dealer. My 2010 highlander with 40k miles has a power rear door. The hinges holding the door are spaced too far which causes stress on the mechanical arm and bolt that attach to the door. My wife was in the vehicle and pressed the button to close the rear power door when she heard a loud "pop". The bolt attaching the "arm" to the door stripped and came out of the door. The dealer said my full coverage "bumper to bumper" warranty does not cover this and gave me the phone number to toyota. I spoke with toyota and they investigated the issue with the dealer. Toyota came back and offered to split the cost 50%. This is unacceptable in my opinion as it is clearly a manufacturing issue as well as a safety concern. If my wife had been behind the vehicle and pressed the power door button, she could have been struck in the face with the metal bar when it pulled itself out of the door. Toyota should stand behind their product especially to those who went the extra step and purchased an extended warranty through them. This should be beyond the standard 3 year 36k warranty and above that, should be a recall issue due to the potential safety hazard this issue can cause.

The flares that are attached to the fenders keep coming off while driving. They have come off four times now and pose a safety threat to me and others on the highway. I currently have three flares taped to the vehicle to prevent their coming off while driving. If these flares come off it is possible they could hit other vehicles on the highway posing a threat to their safety.

The tailgate hatch was unable to open by electronic push bottom or manually.seeing the toyota dealership the cause was a faulty engineering design to the tailgate bytoyota.the hinge mechanics to open the rear hatch due to the weight of the door and use cause aligment issues and therefore, the gate or window cannot open properly.to fix properly a new door and hinge system were put on with no guarantees that it won't happen again.a very expensive fix by the owner.looking into this problem many consumers with this highlander have experienced the same problem.toyota has reengineered its newer models to correct the problem.in an emergency to get people out of the 3rd row seat with the door stuck is a safety issue.toyota should have a recall to fix the problem as well as reimburse the owners who have had to deal with these out of pocket expenses.

While driving on the interstate at 70 mph, a deer hit my car.airbags did not deploy, damaged front end, minor damage to the bumper, major damage to engine compartment and windshield was crackedwhy did the airbag not deploy our major concernconcern that will the airbag work after repairs??

When the service manager from copeland toyota in brockton, ma and ilooked at the trunk hinges together it was clear that the trunk not closing was a direct result of the way that the highlander was manufactured versus due to any fault of our own. This issue has left my children and i with a drained battery on more than one occasion, which is not only inconvenient but a safety issue given the risks involved with being stranded in unfamiliar towns. The malfunction and inoperability of our trunk door leaves my family at risk of danger. However, i was quoted $3,600 to repair this issue by a third party body shop that copeland toyota uses. However, the repair expenses should not be paid by my family but rather toyota since the issue is a direct result of faulty manufacturing.to this point, i recognize that i am not alone, there are several videos and endless complaints of several toyota highlanders with the same issue (newer models as well).here are a few videos that you can see for yourself via youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9z7eophqr0si would like to recommend that owners of toyota highlanders be contacted to remedy this issue.

In late 2012, toyota issued a tsb related to the rear power lift gate. Instructions were to replace the hinges, motor unit, etc... If evidence of failure. Limitations were 3 yr 36,000 mile warranty. Explanations from the dealer were that the hinges for the back hatch were under manufactured for the weight of the door causing them to twist/warp and pull away from the door and/or frame. This also created undue stress on the motor assembly unit often times leading to failure. I had service performed in early 2013 as recommended by the tsb. I am currently experiencing the identical issues as stated above but worse. The door no longer operates by using the power lift feature on the key fob. The door is again warped causing the grinding and clicking noises when you open it manually. The motor has failed and i am afraid my actual door is warped. I have spoken to my dealer and have been told that the work was completed and that there was nothing else they could do for me. This in spite of the fact that the repairs have been proven to be less than effective. I do not feel this is a car mileage issue. It is simply a manufacturing error that has yet to be resolved. Toyota failed to issue a recall on this problem. After researching my problem i have found that there have been very large class action law suits related to this very issue. Many times these doors are not closing at all creating a potentially very dangerous safety issue.

The drivers sun visor has 2 stop points. One is supposed to be fully upright in the recess of the head liner. The stop point has moved so that the upper most point the visor will go is about 10% below level and right in the line of sight of the driver. This causes an unsafe condition in that the driver can not see the road or stop lights. I have run a red light because i can not see it. I have looked on all the websites and this is a common problem for toyota. Not only on the highlander but on several other models. There needs to be a recall for what ever is causing that stop point to "droop". The visor can not be taken apart and toyota wants $200 to replace the thing. It is a rip off as they know the part is defective.

Power lift hatchback door not cosed all the way. Very dangerous.

<- ? moisture causing short in rear door electrical switch? maybe.

The contact owns a 2010 toyota highlander. The contact stated that there was a suspension failure on the driver's side of the vehicle that was progressing. The first dealer (lombard toyota, 725 roosevelt rd, lombard, il 60148, (855) 890-2899) provided an alignment and diagnosed that the suspension arm seized, and the rear suspension arm and toe adjust cam sub-assembly needed to be replaced. The second dealer (st charles toyota, 2651 e main st, st charles, il 60174, (630) 584-6655) diagnosed that the rear alignment was slightly off and that the rear suspension arm needed to be replaced. The manufacturer had not issued any recalls to provide a solution. The approximate failure mileage was 51,442.

Brought vehicle to dealer vehicle was purchased from for a oil change and tire rotation. Immediately after the vehicle service we discovered a "noise" from the rear of the vehicle. We returned the vehicle to the dealer to discover that they believe that the rear wheel bearings have failed for some reason.

My name is [xxx]. I own a 2010 highlander, as of today 5/16/12 the mileage 32,800. The reason for this letter, the left portion of my windshield is coming loose or the left passenger window is dysfunctional. This is the original toyota highlander windshield and passenger window.first, i noticed the sound of glass if it was loose, driving my daily route on i95 fredericksburg virginia to quantico base virginia. This portion of i95 is smoother, than most state roads.the glass sound is not a continuous sound, cause to roads different. In fact, the glass sound occurs only when it an dry day. I notice the road noise has increased. When it rains, i can not heard the glass sound, due to rain on the vehicle.i drive this highlander daily to and from work. The local dealership will take a 3 minute ride and hear nothing, than i am forced to another dealership for service. Many years ago, i had the same problem with another vehicle, the internal and liner has to replaced. Has anyone else experienced this problem?information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Rear door actuator/sensor malfunctioning to read "door ajar" constantly while in motion about two months ago. Initially started only when the windows were down, and taking turns. Now its progressed to constantly setting off the safety features for the door ajar warning. This is a huge distraction while driving! having my local dealer address the issue tomorrow.

Driver's side sun visor fails to close thereby blocking some forward vision.

Received a phone callfrom street toyota concerning a recall for my 2010 highlander. They said that they needed 5 minutes to do a recall on the computer. I checked the recalls and didn't find anything. I thinkthat they are up to something. I refused the appointment.thanks

Indicator warning for rear back door open when itis secure and locked. Interior lights go on as well as warning bell.vehicle brought to toyota service dept.state they cannot duplicate-however it is becoming more frequent each time i drive vehicle.

Sunroof exploded while driving 70 mph on interstate 44. Sound resembled gunshot. No extreme temperatures. No projectiles. Overreaction could have caused accident. Cause of noise unknown until able to pull over to roadside. If interior shield had been open, sharp glass particles would have showered over occupants. Internet review discloses many similar exploding sunroofs on many models and brands.

Driver backed out of an end parking space (nose in, curb in front and on right). Driver felt wheel (right side) go over curb (turned too quickly). Driver stopped, shifted to drive (forward) to get off the curb. When driver touched accelerator, the vehicle shot forward (seemed like 50 mph). Left front of the highlander creased the two side doors of the minivan parked adjacent on the left. The left front of the highlander sustained grille damage, left fender, headlight and running light, driver door and left mirror. Fender pushed back prevented driver door from being opened. Air bags did not deploy. The highlander was purchased 1/4/2010. The accelerator recall was performed by the dealer in march 2010.

On friday, april 22, 2011, we were traversing i-55 north of grenada, mississippi.i was using cruise control traveling at 73 mph when, without any warning of anything wrong, we heard a loud noise like the whirring of helicopter blades overhead.i turned off the cruise control to let the car slow down because i didn't know what was happening; as my wife slid open the sun roof cover to look overhead. As we slowed down, the driver's side rear tire tread hit my side of the car and passed us up going down the interstate.i then felt the drag on the steering as i pulled off onto the shoulder of the highway and applied the brakes stopping the car.prior to the helicopter sound, i never had any pulling or steering problems that could have been caused by a tire running on low tire pressure.i also never received a low tire alarm from my tire pressure alarm system.as an addition, i'll add that my five tires are inflated with nitrogen for better tire wear and life.i went to alexander toyota in franklin, tn to purchase a new tire so i'd have a spare.i picked up the damaged tire off the interstate shoulder and my car insurance company know has the entire failed tire to examine.the failure was a bridgestone; model "dueler hl-400"; dot: ob7c.

This is a safety issue concerning weathertech mats that resulted in an accident.i am attaching a detailed description of the accident, weathertech's response, and response back to them.

Bought 2010 highlander, report said the dealer had fixed the accelerator problem.they did not fix it right and put my gas pedal upside down.another dealer fixed it and told me.

The contact owns a 2010 toyota highlander. The contact stated while sitting idle in a parking space, the vehicle abnormally accelerated without driver intent. The vehicle proceeded to jump a nearby curb, crashed with another vehicle and then a tree. The contact was able to bring the vehicle to a stop by shifting into neutral. The contact did not report any injuries. The manufacturer was contacted but would not provide any assistance. The contacts insurance company was handling the investigation.the current and failure mileages were 3,000.

On jan.26,2010, i was stopped behind cars at a traffic light. My 2010 toyota highlander started creeping forward/i thought i'd taken my foot off the brake, and then the engine started revving to an outrageous level. The harder i braked the more the engine revvedand the car tried to jump forward. It was so loud the driver ahead of me turned around to see what was going on behind him.i thought i was going to rear-end him until i remembered to put the car in neutral.eventually the engine returned to its normal rpms, but i was really shaken. I drove about 1 mile to my destination and called toyota and had the car towed to their service area. They checked the car and after 24 hrs. Told me they couldn't find anything and my car was made in japan so it wasn't under the recall.i don't feel safe in this vehicle and i don't feel toyota really knows or is revealing all the problems they are having.my problem occurred when i was at a standstill at a traffic light, so i don't believe the stuck accelerator story.what can i do toget some satisfaction?at this point the problem has only occurred once, but i've lost all confidence in my new vehicle...less than 4000 miles on it!

My automobile is a 2010 toyota highlander le.i was driving south on i15 just south of barstow, ca., at approximately 65mph.my cruise control was on.i either pressed resume or did nothing, it happened so fast i am not sure which.my car began speeding out of control to the degree that my head snapped back to the headrest.i have never experienced that kind of acceleration before.i braked soundly, and fortunately that kicked it out of the acceleration.i have been driving toyotas and using cruise control for years.this was not normal cruise control acceleration.neither was it a sticky pedal, as toyota is claiming.the car just took over.i am not sure i could even duplicate that rate of acceleration if i tried.it was something internal with the engine or the computer.

On july 8 2010, my 2010 toyota highlander had sudden acceleration problem when i stopped and braked for the traffic light. This highlander has only about 6,600 miles on it and it never had the sudden acceleration problem before. The dealer had installed the recall fixes. Updated 07/19/10updated ivoq 07/21/10.

I have a 2010 toyota highlander base model. When cruiser control is activated and when the vehicle is moving slightly uphill, the vehicle usually accelerates to a speed that is much higher (over 5 mi/hr higher) than the set speed. This situation happened several times and was worrisome, especially when my wife was driving.i purchased the vehicle on december 28th, 2009. I guess that the local dealer (heiser toyota, milwaukee) must be aware of the problem at the time of my purchase but pretended to not know the problem, because the specific salesperson (art stamos) told me and my wife during vehicle delivery that, in case of uncontrolled acceleration, we should put gear to neutral and firmly press brake pedal.i suggest that your office request toyota to not only recall but buy-back all toyota vehicles that were sold duringthe toyota's mostrecent promotion period (toyotathione) in which toyota was aware of the problem but decided to do nothing.

The contact owns a 2010 toyota highlander. While driving 15- 20 mph, the contact applied the brakes and the vehicle accelerated without warning. He removed his foot from the brake and checked to make sure he wasn't applying the accelerator, and he wasn't, so he pressed the brake pedal again and the vehicle accelerated again. In order to stop the vehicle, the contact had to apply the emergency brake. The vehicle was towed to the dealer who stated that the failure could not be determined. There were no prior warnings. The vehicle was not repaired.. The current and failure mileages were 8,200. The consumer stated once he stopped, he put the vehicle in reverse and then used the brake to stop. The brake pedal then worked effectively.updated 09/13/10

The contact owns a 2010 toyota highlander. While driving at 5 mph, the vehicle suddenly accelerated. To stop the vehicle, the contact shifted into neutral and turned off the ignition. The vehicle had not been inspected or repaired at the time of the complaint. The current and failure mileages were approximately 1,700.

Uncontrollable acceleration 2010 toyota highlander. 3 times on 2-10-10.

The contact owns a 2010 toyota highlander. The contact stated that while in reverse the vehicle suddendly accelerated and the brakes failed to stop the vehicle. The contact mentioned that in order to stop the vehicle, the engine had to be turned off. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 73,000.

As i slowly pulled into a parking space, the highlander suddenly accelerated quickly, jumped the concrete parking stop and slammed into a retaining wall.it happened very quickly and unexpected.i am original owner.the vehicle has 56000 miles and has been serviced only by the dealer.the vehicle was drivable and was taken immediately to the dealer for 2 days to inspect the systems.because of the amount of damage, the repair shop got the vehicle in immediately and estimate repairs at $10,000.i am very frightened of this vehicle right now as another incident like this could produce much worse results.

I own a 2010 toyota highlander which i purchased 3 months ago. I had the gas pedal "fix" done on 2/15 and on 3/12 my gas pedal stuck multiple times!!! i called toyota and told them about the problem and they said there was nothing they could do about it as the fix had already been made. I asked that they take my vehicle back and cancel my lease as it is an unsafe vehicle and i refuse to put my children in it. They refused. Toyota drivers need to know that the fix was not a real fix and to be very careful when driving.the consumer stated the pedal became stuck several times. The accelerator pedal was hard to push, to the point where when it actually went down, the vehicle jerked. Then on a hill on the way home, the consumer was applying the brake pedal to slow the vehicle down, but she noticed the vehicle seemed to be going much faster. Updated 04/21/10.

Follow-up ltr to nhtsa re 4/8/10 correspondence on behalf of re incident of sudden unintended acceleration after recall fix by dealer on her 2010 toyota highlander.the consumer became concerned about the recent accelerator pedal issue and contacted the dealer to see if she could get out of the lease. The dealer informed her there was a fix to the problem, so the consumer made an appointment on february 15, 2010. On march 2, 2010 the accelerator pedal became stuck multiple times. Twice, the accelerator pedal stuck when taking off;it was extremely hard to push, to the point where it actually went down, and the vehicle jerked. Then on the way home, the consumer pushed the brake pedal down to slow down and noticed the vehicle seemed to be going much faster. She pushed harder and harder on the brakeand when she looked down the rpm's were going straight up and she was not slowing down. She continued to hold the brake pedal down and after a few minutes the brakes started working.the consumer contacted the dealer the next day, but was informed there was nothing they could do since the fix had already been completed.

On march 28, i was driving our 2010 toyota highlander that we purchased at the end of december 2009 in a residential area when the gas pedal stuck and i was unable to apply the brakes to stop it. Luckily i was able to put it in neutral gear and coast to the side of the road without property damage or injury to anyone. I then called the 911 and the police came out. This car was involved in the recall and the fix was completed a few weeks ago. No one was available at any toyota dealership to come out and pick up the car, so i had it towed using aaa to a local dealership. I had my four children in the car with me and can testify as to what happened. This is ridiculous. Their fix has nothing to do with what is really wrong with these cars. I loved toyota until this happened. Something needs to be done before people get hurt from these cars.by the way, your form requires a speed and a mileage, but i do not have the car to get the mileage, nor do i remember the speed because it started once i applied the gas and it happened so fast, so iapproximated both in the complaint.

2010 toyota highlander. S10 appropriate handling- letter from regarding toyota problems *tgwthe consumer stated the vehicle was delivered to him and his wife during the sales suspension period of toyota vehicles without the accelerator recall work being completed.also, after owning the vehicle for five days, the vehicle would not start. The dealer stated the battery was defective and needed to be replaced.

The visor is defective and gets stuck in a 45 degree angle position. A warranty repair was made, but it happened a second time outside of warranty. Also, the passenger side visor developed the same problem, also outside of warranty. Based on the position of the visor at a 45 degree angle, if there's an accident the head of the driver or passenger will go right into the brim of the visor. This is obviously very dangerous and should be addressed by toyota. I believe toyota needs to issue a recall immediately before someone gets seriously injured or worse.

My husband and i were driving down the highway and we heard a loud crashing sound.we were not by a construction site nor an overpass.the weather conditions were dry, sunny and 77 degrees.it was not the tire because the car did not shake and no indicators on the dash lit up.i pulled over and upon inspection of the vehicle, there was a large gaping hole in the center of my closed sunroof!fortunately the inside visor was closed.we slowly took secondary roads home while listening to gravel sounding glass above us.now, my dilemma is getting toyota to own this defect.this is not an insurance issue.this is a vehicle defect.

Driving on i-5 monday am to work and due to the sun shining in my eyes put the visor down.later when the sun went behind some clouds i put the visor back up and i heard noise from the visor that appeared to be like plastic rubbing together.when i let go of the visor it dropped straight down in my line of sight and would not stay up or even forward close to the window.seems to be a dangerous problem as it is right in the line of sight and cannot be adjusted.i had to uninstall the visor and now i don't have any sunlight protection.the visor worked fine up to this point.no indication of a problem.have never replaced a visor before this.

Immediately after purchasing our car, we noticed that the front windshield was defective. It has waves, causing vision distortion and headaches. We have contacted toyota and also had a toyota corp rep look at it, without us being present, and they simply deny this problem exists. We have compared it with other highlanders, and none have the same issue. The salespeople acknowledge a problem exists, but toyota will not fix it.

The driver side visor will not remain in the up position. If falls down directly into the line of vision and partially obstruct vision. It might not be an issue for driver 5'2 tall or less but for 6 ft or above it's an issue.

The sun visor on my 2010 toyota highlander opened in front of my eyes blocking my vision for a few seconds. Now the visor will not stay in the up position. I have to move it to the side to keep it from blocking my vision.

The driver side visor will not maintain in the up position.if falls down directly into my line of vision and is very distracting and dangerous.

Driver's side sun visor will not stay up. Keeps falling down while driving.

The spring in the visor no longer works it is falling down in the sightline of the driver. After looking on line this looks to be a common problem with toyota.

Driver side sun visor spring seems to be defective and the sun visor keeps falling down (does not stay in up position) blocking the visibility of the road. I called the dealer to verify if this was a recall issue and i was told that it is a common issue but not enough for a recall. The cost of replacing is an absurd!!!

The driver's sun visor has been used infrequently, and is typically in tact.however, today when using the visor to block the sunlight the visor would not retreat back into position and kept falling down in an unsecured manner blocking my driving vision because it would not stay into place.proper visibility was compromised by this defective visor and this is a significant safety concern for vehicle operators.

The driver's side visor fails to stay up and drops to block driver's view.

I purchased this 2010 toyota highlander new.at 45,000 miles, the driver-side sun visor failed to remain in the upright position.it continues to fall and block the driver's view when driving.even though the vehicle was within the 50,000 mile warranty period, the dealership said the sun visor is not covered under the warranty.i new visor is over $200. I used to work for the toyota at the headquarters located in torrance, california.it is unfortunate that toyota does not recognize this sun visor as a customer hazard and failure of the part.this failure should be repaired/replaced at toyota's expense before it causes serious harm to the driver and passengers.

When driving on freeway my visor was brought down and it hung well below its normal position. This obstructs my vision when driving. Also, the visor does not return to its normal position when not in use. It hangs below its normal position by about two inches.

Driver side sun visor won't stay in up position. Hangs down in vision line of driver taller than 5'. The repair will cost close to $200!

Visor on driver's side dropped down and will not stay up. It is an absolute hazard.

Sun roof glass exploded while driving on a highway at about 60 to 65 miles per hour. We had the sun shade closed so we did not know the sun roof glass had exploded. Pulled off the road, no other car or truck was near us, and discovered the sun roof glass had exploded and glass was prevented from entering the passenger compartment because the shade was closed.went to a toyota dealer about 10 miles away and they said it was probably caused by a rock. I said no one was near us, front or back, and they said we might have had a chip in the sun roof glass from before this happened. It was a nice day, no rain, not too hot, around 65 degrees, comfortable, sun was out.they taped the glass that was still together so we could drive home and have it repaired. They did not have the glass and would take several days. This happened in july, 2012.

The contact owns a 2010 toyota highlander. The contact stated that after pulling the drivers side sun visor down to block the sun, the contact was unable to reposition the visor which caused a visibility hazard. The contact stated that the vehicle was diagnosed and repaired by the dealer. The contact was informed that the visor bracket was fractured. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 43,000.

The driver's side sun visor fell down while driving and now won't stay up. This almost caused an accident as my visibility was cut off. Now i am unable to drive unless i somehow prop it up. This car is less than 3 years old and seems to be a problem for many highlanders. This is a serious safety issue.

The driver's visor broke. I put it down to block the bright sun here in the desert and heard a loud snap. The visor no longer has the ability to stay up or all the way forward.resulting problem: 1. In the up position it will not fully retract into the roof visor pocket and hangs down about 2.5 inches from the car roof.concerned the small edge would smack me right in the middle of the forehead if i was in an accident and fell forward.if you were tall you could potentially be impacted directly in the eyes if you fell forward from a read end collision. 2. In the down position, which the visor is most frequently here in the desert region, it no longer can be pushed forward to the windshield, so it hangs down low, and partially obstructs your ability to read signs above your line of vision over the hood. Dealer did not think it was covered under my 100,000 mile / 5 year warranty and told me to call toyota care, dealer said it would cost me $150 to $160 to fix.i called toyota care they said it is covered because i purchased the extended warranty.something like this shouldn't fail in the first three years, especially when most of the time it is sitting forward against the window and not moving.

Driver side sun visor tension completely broke under normal use. Visor hangs straight down and won't return to the up position, or any other position. Blocks much of the field of view for any driver (like me) taller than 5'5".

The driver's side sun visor will not stay up. Repeated attempts to get the local toyota dealer to fix the problem resulted in them saying that it is not covered by the warranty. This is a safety issue. The visor could fall enough to block the driver's vision. Also, in the event of an accident the driver's forehead would bepropelled into the edge of a sun visor that is partially down causing a possible serious head injury. This issue should be a safety recall.

As i am driving the sun visor falls down into my driving sight.the visor will not stay down or up.it just remains in my line of vision.it concerns me because it limits my visibility and the potential of causing an accident.

Drivers side sunvisor drops down into view and will not stay up, seems to be a major problem with all these cars from what i see on all the forums.

Driver side sun visor spring seems to be defective and the sun visor keeps falling down (does not stay in up position) blocking the visibility of the road.

The driver side sun visor does not retain its closed position. It falls down during driving and hinders visto ability of driver to see. Clearly a safety issue and a danger during driving time to the driver and other vehicles close to the driver.

The driver's side visor will not stay up flush with the ceiling of the vehicle.the visor hangs at about a 45 degree angle and blocks visibility while driving.my husband is unable to drive the car safely and is anaverage height man of about 6 feet tall.

Drivers side sun visor drops down and will not stay in the up position obstructing my visibility.

The contact owns a 2010 toyota highlander. The contact stated that the front passenger and rear passenger side windows failed to close. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 15v689000 (visibility) after the failure was experienced. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where unknown areas were lubricated, but the failure persisted. The dealer did not inspect or replace the pwm circuit board; however, the remedy did not prevent the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was not available.

Almost had a car accident when the driver side sun visor dropped during a turn on a 5-way intersection.the driver side sun visor does not retain its closed position. It keeps falling down when driving over small bumps.the sun visor hinders visibility and scope / range of the driver?s view. Proper visibility was compromised by this defective visor and this is a significant safety concern for vehicle operators. This gravely presents a safety issue for the driver, passengers, and other drivers on the road to include bystanders.this is obviously and clearly a safety issue and presents immediate danger and recall action.please don't let this become fatality statistics due to a small recall and correction!

The driver's side sun visor has dropped, blocking the line of vision. It does not allow me to push itup to be completely out of the way. I have read that the camrys had the same issue and toyota issued a recall for the camrys but has not for the highlander. Toyota needs to resolve this issue .

The other day i lowered the driver's side sun visor on my 2010 toyota highlander. When i tried to move the visor back to the up position i heard something pop or snap. As a result, the visor will no longer stay in the up position, unnecessarily obstructing my vision while driving.the service rep at the toyota dealership told me the hinge was broken and that it will cost $300 (parts and labor) to replace the visor.when i checked the internet i learned that other people are reporting the same such problem.

Visor on drivers side will not go up.it is constantly in the way of my vision as i drive.

The driver side visor will not stay in position and falls down obstructing driver's view of the road.the vehicle is well maintained.based on an internet search, this appears to be an issue with other toyotas as well.

The front side window glass is inoperative due to broken window mounting tab. I had to disconnect the power to the window motor so it can't be used. As far as i'm concerned it's a safety issue if operated while driving, the window comes off track and gets cockeyed.

While driving down the highway, the driver's side sun visor fell down and obstructed view of the road.when attempting to push visor back up out of my line of sight, it would not stay in the proper position to block sun and to where it did not obstruct view of the road.the visor will either stay all the way up against the ceiling or all the way down almost parallel with the windshield.there seems to be some type of spring or piece of material broken inside visor causing it to malfunction.this is very annoying and very unsafe.

I was driving on m hwy into sedalia mo on saturday afternoon, 4/5/14, when i heard a loud pop like a gunshot, and i looked up & saw that my moonroof shattered into a million pieces, but it stayed together like safety glass is supposed to.tiny shards started to filter down but i was able to stop & close the sun visor to prevent other glass from falling down. There was no one in front of me that could have kicked up a rock, no explanation for the moonroof to suddenly shatter.we just purchased this car in february, & bought a certified toyota platinum warranty at that time.the local dealership called for warranty approval & they were told toyota does not cover glass and we would have to file with our insurance to pay for the repair.thankfully i only have $50 deductible, but this should never have happened, unless it was a defect that toyota should be responsible for.

We have contacted toyota about our 2010 highlander & its defective windshield which, based on conversations we've had with repair shops and toyota employees, is likely caused by the plastic film pressed between the glass. This defect causes visual distortion and is incredibly distractive while driving and causes eye strain. I spoke to the salesman the other day who now says he believes it is a defect in all highlanders (we have not seen this defect in other highlanders ourselves). Toyota corp, despite all of this, refuses to acknowledge the problem nor even meet with us. They simply state it is our imagination.whenever we discuss the matter with toyota's service department, they deny it exists. But employees of the dealership acknowledge the problem.

Updated 03/19/10. *lj the windshield had to be replaced due to hairline cracks forming, the heated seats were not heating properly, the skid control light had illuminated and the dash lights would blink intermittently. Updated 07/27/10

The contact owns a 2010 toyota highlander. While drivingapproximately 35 mph the contact smelled a burning odor. The vehicle began to vibrate causing the contact to stop the vehicle on the shoulder of the road. The contact noticed the rear passenger side tire appeared to have small holes in it and was extremely worn. The contact replaced the tire with the spare tire and drove the vehicle to the dealer. The technicians stated the failure may have occurred due to excessive temperatures. The contact stated the wheel may bedefective and caused the tire to wear excessively. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 7,000.

Rear wheel hubs. I replaced the right rear wheel hub at about 6500 miles and 92000 miles. I replaced the left rear wheel hub at about 85000 miles. Is there an issue with these items wearing out prematurely? i have been driving for over 50 year and have never had an issue like this.

I purchased a 2010 toyota highlander from fredericksburg, virginia location. The vehicle rode smooth until i had its first serviced at toyota.the vehiclerode like a jeep, rock and rolling, at normal driving speed and highly at low speed. All this started after the first vehicle service. I traded in my 2006 for 2010 and it had the same problem. For the 2006, i purchased new rims, tires, lugs, wheel balancing and full front end alignment. The vehicle still rode the same rocking and rolling. In the past, i have work as system engineer on a military project. The vehicle had problems with its tracks, the problem the lugs not being adjusted the same on each wheel resulting in track breaking or damage.the same for any vehicle that has lugs and wheel. Back to my 2010, bottom line is each wheel must be torque the same. If each wheel is torque different or each tug, than the vehicle will have a rocking and rolling affect. All vehicle service says, it's the wheel, but no one ever torque the lugs resulting in the same rock and rolling affect. Understanding the basics of lug adjustment can save customers, money, time and easy fit.[xxx]parts of this document have been redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
