Consumer states that when the vehicle crashed at 40mph in the front center of the vehicle, the air bag did not deploy.dealer notified. Nlmthe consumers vehicle was totaled.there was extensive damage in the front end-due to a defective air bag system.scc

Air bag front passenger looks that is not working, alarm in red shows that there is a problem with the airbag

Dt: as of august 17, 2005there was single car accident in which the car rolled 3 times, and the air bags did not deploy.the speed was 45 mph when this happened, there was a blown tire that caused the carto strike an embankment., and when consumer tried to correct the vehicle itrolled.car was towed to consumer's residence where an insurance adjustor was going to make an assessmenton this accident.no repairs or no dealer.didn'tknow why air bags did not deploy.had not contacted toyota at this time.

Takata recall.nothing has happened sofar.i want to know if this is one of the models of cars affected by the takata air bag recall?please let me know,so i can get it repaired, if necessary. Thank you!

My boy friend was driving my 2002 toyota echo 2-door coupe.we were driving in the middle lane on the outerloop of 495 (maryland), right past the connecticut/kensington exit when traffic began to slow down (50mph).the mazda 626 in front of us suddenly slammed on his breaks so my boyfriend slammed on his breaks when he noticed a chevy malibu coming full speed behind us with the driver unconscious at the steering wheel.he glanced to the side and saw no one coming on his left so he turned the steering wheel to change lanes.the toyota echo kept going straight since slowing down at that speed, the car was skidding toward the mazda 626 quite fast.since he was slowing down quite rapidly and the chevy malibu behind us didn't seem to be slowing down, it was inevitable that the chevy malibu slammed into the back of our toyota echo.the impact crushed the trunk past the gas tank.after that we were lurched forward into the mazda 626.in turn hitting the car in front of him and so forth. It didn't end there because the driver behind us was unconscious, the chevy malibu kept slamming into the back of our toyota 2-3 times like a bumper car until we finally came to a stop.needless to say, the toyota echo suffered severe frontal and rear damage, yet the air bags did not deploy.when the paramedics arrived on the scene, they were shocked to see that with such severe damage to the car, that the air bags did not deploy.the insurance adjuster has told me that the car is a total loss and not worth the cost of repairing as it would exceed $10,000 in charges.my main concern is that although we all survived the crash without serious injury, why would such an impact not make the air bags deploy?

New 2002 toyota echo was involved in a front end collision going 40-45mph and neither air bag deployed. No one was injured due to the use of seatbelts. Air bags should have deployed according to manufacturer claims for safety.

I was driving down a 4 lane highway (us 29 s), when a car tried to turn into the median three cars ahead of me. One car swerved to avoid the front two vehicles. When they did i was able to see the cars trying to stop. I slammed on my brakes, by the time i did it was too late. So going about 65 with about 50 feet of stopping distance i guess i was going 40 - 50 mph. I could not move to the other lane since there was tractor trailer in the other lane. So i rear ended the vehicle in front of me. Impacting on the driver side front corner.my airbags failed to deploy. The following day inspecting the damage, the air bag sensor was right next to the damaged area and should have been able to pick up the impact.

Low beam headlights were engaged using the dimmer switch located on the steering column per normal operations.the low beams switched to high beams display. Unable to disengage without totally switching off the lights.the high beam indicator appeared on the dashboard display as well. This event occurred when the temperatures were at or below 20 degrees fahrenheit and the car had been parked for about 8 hours (in a park and ride lot).once the interior cabin warmed up after about 20 minutes i was able to "jiggle" the lights back to low beams.

Toyota only recalled vehicles up to serial numbers ending in 212671. My 02 echo just had the exact crankshaft sensor failure described in the recall. My vin number is[xxx]. So i was told by toyota that by vehicle did not qualify for the recall, even though i have the exact failure. The recall needs to be extended to higher vehicle numbers.

I shifted into reverse to back out of a driveway when the car suddenly accelerated on its own.it crossed the street and ran over a brick planter box, knocked down a crape myrtle tree and finally hit the neighbor's suv.i applied the brakes to no avail and had no time to shift into neutral or turn off the ignition.after the accident, i checked the gas pedal to see if it was against the floor or if the floor mat was interfering with it, but found nothing wrong.the car was totaled and my back was injured.

My 2002 toyota echo on nov. 16th 2010 while driving on the freeway in the county of los angeles ca. Went into reverse while still in drive.there was traffic ahead of me so i was only driving about 2 mph when it went into reverse while the automatic shift was still in drive.i went to put on the brake but the brakes did not work.i turned off the car and put on the hazards.two minutes went by when i turned on the car and it went into drive.i then took it to the keyes toyota in van nuys ca, and was told that they never heard of this before from any toyota cars and that if they were even to look it would be completely at my expense.i sold the car for parts on 11/18/10.

Vehicle would intermittently jump out of drive into neutral when applying the accelerator pedal from a stop/slow motion or from increasing the speed to high levels. Vehicle had been to the dealer on three occasions, and they were unable to duplicate the problem.

1. Approaching a left turn at 15 to 25 mph, gap in on-coming traffic, press accelerator and turn left.2. The car decelerates as the transmission takes over and lethargically downshifts, 98% of the time, causing near misses.3. I doubt anyone cares to consider it a problem.so, how many more broadsides occur with echoes than the average for other cars, or has no one ever checked?

Stuck throttle on jan 19th, 2012 when accelerator pressed to floor. Recovered by pulling up with foot. Tried to reproduce the same day and was able to. Took to dealer (boulder toyota) on jan 30th. They claimed they were unable to reproduce but thought carpet might be interfering with foot pedal and recommended i change all of carpet in car at a cost of $1200. I asked them to just trim the card around the pedal, and they told me they couldn't do that. Tried to reproduce after dealer visit and was unable. Inspected on feb 3rd, and it appeared like carpet might have been pulled back around hole in floor. I pushed it back into position, and then tried to reproduce the stuck throttle and was able.

While driving at approximately 70 mph on a flat, stright highway in light-to-moderate traffic conditions on a road with no obstructions or visible fluid/oil spots my 2002 toyota echo suddenly and sharply veered right.i attempted to correct my trajectory, but the car swerved completely out of control, final turning counter-clockwise to hit the concrete median nearly-head-on, with majority of impact on right front of car.the recoil of the impact turned the car so that it was completely 180 degrees from the driving direction on the freeway.the front end of the car was pushed in, airbags deployed, the hood pushed in and up and the driver's door would not open.no injury occured from the crash.i was not under the influence of alcohol or other drugs, was not talking on a cell phone and had both hand on the wheel at the time of the accident.it occured during clear, sunny weather at 4:00 pm on may 7, 2004.the car has been deemed "totalled" by my insurance company and no repairs have been done.
