I went to melody toyota in san bruno, ca (summer 2016) to have airbag recall taken care of.they told me they didn't have the part and they would call me for an appointment when it came in.after a month with no word from them i stopped by again.they told me i didn't need to stop by because they would call me when the part came in.that was over a year ago and they still haven't called!i got a reminder about the recall summer 2017 and made an appointment at one toyota of oakland for 10am 7/18/17.they told me car would be ready by 2:30.when 4:00 came and i had no word i asked.at around 4:30 i was told they hadn't started yet and they asked me if i wanted to make another appointment for another day.i walked out totally disgusted.obviously the toyota dealerships have put this airbag recall at the bottom of their priority list.i will try finding a third dealership today and hope to be done with this soon.

I have had failure to disclose issues with this car. I have had an accident in which the airbag did not deploy and brake had difficulty. I had a bad accident and have reached out to toyota to wither repair my car or setup rental or make a payment for rental. I do not want to drive this car until repaired, therefore renting for the past 3 months
Inflator recall. I took my car into a toyota dealership in early may and was told the part would be in by the end of may. On july 2nd they have yet to get the part or contact me about any information. The recall info i received in the mail said if they have not done it in a reasonable amount of time to file a complaint. I believe that almost 2 months is plenty of time.

I was decelerating with my right foot on the brake to stop at a red light.there was a car ahead of me at the light, and as i pulled up behind it, i put my right foot on the brake to come to a complete stop.when i hit brakes, i found that the car was not stopping and that the car was accelerating.i put both feet on the brake, and pulled the emergency brake but the car continued to accelerate until it ended up pushing on the car ahead of me. I did everything i could think of to stop the car, but was unable to do so until i turned the key off.as far as i know, there were no injuries, air bags didn't deploy, no tickets were issuedand the bumpers of both cars were not dented, but had very deep scrapes on them. The mat was hooked at the time and was not involved and i didn't touch the gas.i had my husband follow me to my dealership, where i asked them to inspect the car and let me know if it was safe to drive.they refused to inspect it and referred me to my insurance company.i did that, but i also talked to toyota's service line in california and they said the best they could do was arrange for an inspection with results in appx 74 days.my insurance company had an independentinspection, but all he told me was that my accelerator was not "cable".the toyota company told me i could go ahead and have the body work done as long as the repairs did not have anything to do with the brake or the ignition.police were called at the scene, but did not meet with us.
I own both a 2004 corolla and the 2008 toyotamatrix. Both vehicles are on this urgent saafety recall. My 2004 corolla appointment is for 6/15 at 8:30 am. This was not so bad. The 2008 corolla matrix appointment is for august 5th at 10:00 am. I think this is not right, two and a half months to correct an inportant safety problem like this? the deller told me that they do not have the parts to correcta 2008. In your letters you say that the parts are out to certain locations. I use this vehicle to transport my grandchildren to school soft ball games and other inportant appointment? the passinger seat has to be used. What am i going to do when this problem can not be corrected until august?

"takate recall". Months ago i checked and my car wasn't recalled. A few months ago i received a letter that it was. Told in letter to wait and i would be notified when part available. I waited and waited. Finally called5/24/16 dealer and they asked, "did you call us and order part?" are you kidding me? the letter said to wait and i would be informed. No i didn't order part!! called toyota customer center on 5/24/16 and they said within 48 hrs i would hear from someone (i assumed there). Just a couple of hours later the dealer called me!! are you kidding? i talked to them already. He said i may have in 8 weeks. Patiently waiting and now i'll try this. I am a senior and drive my grandchildren around and have been since 2011 when i bought this vehicle used with deadly airbags!!!! they are out for summer and i need to be able to take them places. This car is small. I need the part now, please.

Takata recall - nhtsa recall no. 15v-285 and 16v-127i called my nearest toyota dealer to schedule replace of air bag module but the dealer said it would be 6 months before they could do it.they told me they only get two modules a week and there was many people on the wait list.i place my name on the wait list but was not happy.my nearest toyota dealer is rochester toyota, 4365 canal place, rochester, mn 55904.i find that a 6 month wait time is way beyond reasonable.
My car was involved in an accident that was bad enough that the airbags should have activated, but did not. This was after i had the recall on the airbags repaired at the dealer in late 2017. Who can i address this problem with?

Airbag light comes on and off possibility of 600.00 fee
I had my car checked because a light came on on my dash on 12/6/17 so i had it checked and it ended up being my tire pressure was low, but the monitor they hook up indicated that my passenger airbag was affected, so i took it into toyota and they looked at me like i was dumb and just told me that they put air in my tires and everything was fine.so on 12/12/17 my maintenance required light came on and i had o'reilys check with there monitor and again it red flagged the passenger airbag, i knew it was time for an oil change so i figured that's why my maintenance required light was on but what concerns me is the airbag.according to my notes, i had my airbags supposedly replace in july of 2016 and i am not sure if a light would come on indicating something was wrong with the airbags but i need to find out if after a 1 1/2 years why i would have a problem with my airbag???? could this be related to the recall and how do i find out (other than going in to toyota) that they actually replaced the recalled airbag???) they tell me they did but doesn't my vin number have to be kept track of somewhere besides the specific dealer that i went to??? they treated me like crap and told me it was an $89 diagnostic fee and if it was an airbag would cost between $500-$700 dollars.i need to know more information on the previous airbag recall as i am beginning to wonder if it was never fixed because i have never had to have my car checked for lights coming on so i feel that i have been driving for 1 1/2 years with faulty airbags.

I am contacting you in regard to nhtsa toyota air bag recall no: 15v-285 and 16v-127i received the safety recall remedy notice in june 2016 which stated 'toyota has completed parts preparation for vehicles in your geographic area.'have this remedy performed as soon as possible.'i contacted the dealer, russell toyota, and was scheduled an appointment for june 10, 2016.at the appointment, i was told they could not make the repair because they had to see which part was needed and order it.i was told they would contact me when the part came in (fp number: 04006-06102 - air bag assy kit).which is why i am writing.it has been a month since i took my car to the dealer to repair the recalled defect.when i called for an update, i was told the part had not been received and that they did not know when it would be received. However, the toyota.com/recall faq site states 'the owner letters will be mailed in quantities consistent with parts availability and dealer repair capacity, and is expected to complete by june 1, 2016'and the notifications referenced above state 'the repair will take approximately 2 hours.' (suggesting the parts are available) therefore, it is reasonable to expect, 1) given i purchased my vehicle from this dealership, a replacement part for my vehicle would be available and 2) 3+ months is an unreasonable amount of time to repair a recall of this severity.

I had an accident last december 27, 2012. I was driving 40-45 mph on a two-way street and hit a large sized donkey. There were at least 5 or 6 big donkeys on the road that showed up from nowhere. My airbags did not deploy. My windshield was damage. The front side of the car was damaged and the inside parts too.. The car was a total wreck. The mileage on the car was at least 130, 000 miles.i got bruises and some cuts on my hands. It was very traumatic and scary. Thinking that airbags will protect me during a crash but it failed. I can send a picture of my damaged car if requested.

Takata recall - i received the recall notice in the email with the following instructions, " until the remedy is performed we recommend that you do not operated the vehicle with an occupant in the front passenger seat" i immediately contacted my local dealer who took my all the information they need to complete the recall and the service advisor told me that they will have to order the part and will contact me when it arrives. It has been several months and they still don't have any idea when the part will arrive. I contacted toyota directly, and they don't have any idea when the part will arrive. I understand the amount of vehicles that are involved in this recall, however this has caused me numerous problems with the inability to put anyone in the passenger side of my car, and i have no idea when the problem will be rectified.
We received a recall regarding the airbag inflator module on march 2, 2016. As of today, toyota still does not have the parts ready for me. Two months ago, they said the parts would be ready by now, and just today when i called them, they said that the parts will not be ready until another two months. Having a malfunction airbag is a really serious safety issue, and it causes me to be anxious everyday while driving. Toyota has been irresponsible on their end and this issue needs to resolved as soon as possible. I look forward to hearing from you regarding the resolution.

Takata recalli received a "remedy notice" from toyota regarding this recall and made an appointment with my toyota dealer.after dropping my car off at the dealership to have this resolved, i received a phone call notifying me that they could not "fix" the issue related to this recall.i was informed that as toyota has limited the number of "remedy kits" to 6 per dealership, per week, i would have to wait approximately 3 months (or more) before parts would be available to "fix" my vehicle.(never mind the fact that the dealership should have told me they did not have the parts when the appointment was made and wasted my time, but that's another issue).the original recall announcement i received from toyota stated "until the remedy becomes available in your location, we recommend that you do not operate the vehicle with an occupant in the front passenger seat". So, i am to be deprived of using the front passenger seat of my vehicle for an additional 3 months, or more (after having receiving the remedy notice), because toyota chooses to limit the number of parts available to local dealers to remedy this issue. That is ridiculous.since toyota sent me a "remedy notice" for this recall, i believe it is their responsibility to ensure my vehicle is fixed in a timely matter.a delay of 3 months because toyota is not supplying dealers with enough parts is just inexcusable.

Takata recall.nhtsa recall no. 15v-285 and 16v-127. This involves what appears to me to be slow walking of the installation of the recalled passenger side airbag for my vehicle.in response to the recall letter i received from toyota (which is undated, but which i received on april 15, 2016), i called and requested that the replacement part be ordered on april 18, 2016 and i was advised by my local dealer (wolfchase toyota) that it would be "4 to 6 weeks" before the part would be available.it is now the 6th week and the service department here cannot give me any idea as to when the part will actually arrive.although i appreciate the nhtsa's attempt to address this issue through recall, if in fact parts are not going to be furnished to implement the remedy in a timely fashion, consumers are left paying the price by having to refrain from having any passengers sit in the front (a definite hardship when one's family contains enough people to fill the car).because consumers are "on notice," liability is presumably reduced or eliminated for both takata and toyota, while they further avoid the cost of recall implementation by just having the part "on order" in perpetuity.

Takata recall - it is unbelievable that i am unable to have passengers in the front seat of my car because of a risk of death and there is no date even to repair. This is a priority. I don't understand why i cannot have this fixed now. Unbelievable!
October 9, 2017 i was rear-ended, hit at 35 mph. This hit i was sitting. I was side swiped at 40- 45 mph, moving at this time. I was again rear-ended at 50- 55 mph, stopped. And then i was backed into, in the front end of my car at 20-25 mph. How come no airbags go off?
Takata recall:i contacted auto nation toyota in centennial, co at least 4 weeks ago to get the "urgent recall" repaired.my initial call i was transferred multiple times and finally sent to a voicemail.after a week, my call was not returned, so i again called and after 15 minutes on the phone (they had to find out what the recall was and if they had parts), i was told they did not have the parts and they would order them and call me when they arrived.another week passed and i still had not been contacted by autonation.i again called automation and was again put on hold for about 15 min because they had no information that i had called the previous two weeks.i was finally told again that they found my information and my parts were on order and i would be contacted when they arrived.another week passed so i made my fourth and final call.i was eventually transferred to a voicemail and i left another message with all of my information (vin, name and that i had called 3 previous times already).this final message was on friday, april 22, 2016.as of today, thursday, apr. 28, 2016, i have yet to receive a call from auto nation to repair my urgent recall.this is totally unacceptable.on april 22, after leaving the final message with autonation, i contacted two other toyota dealerships in the area and both and the parts and were able to get me in with just a few days.if automation could not do the repairs, they should have told me that initially, instead they lead me to believe they would do it, all the while we are driving an unsafe car and four weeks passed by.definitely very poor customer service and no consideration for consumers safety.

Seatbelt didn't tighten up initially during a wreck causing more extensive injury. Then tightened up snatching passenger into seat from midair causing additional damage. Vehicle was going straight and was hit by a car who ran a left turn arrow on a city street. Wreck was under 50mphbut passenger had extensive damage due to seatbelt malfunction. .
Takata recallthe fact that you are losing the use of the front passenger seat for an undetermined amount of time is more than inconvenient.i have been a corolla owner since 1982.something needs to be done to get this dangerous situation corrected.

I received the re-call notice and i have been calling or passing by and the toyata dealer located at nw 12 street around 97th avenue in miami, fl keep telling me to wait 3 month. What is the purpose of this notice if toyta is doing nothing to fix it ?.
Takata recall.i received a notice in march 2016 about the recall. The notice described the issue with the inflator. I was asked to immediately take my car to the dealer to have it fixed. The notice said it was urgent . It specified that i should stop using the passenger seat. It even said that if i felt uncomfortable driving the car, they would pick up the car for me.i sent to the toyota dealer the very next day. They checked and verified my car is subject to the recall, but they told me it would be a few weeks before the part would arrive. It has been almost 11 months since the notice was sent. The people at the dealer don't even know when the part will arrive. It is unrealistic that owners are expected to not be able to fully use their vehicles without receiving some sort of compensation. I am not even sure if it would be ethical for me to sell the car under this conditions.

I called a toyota dealership on june 18, to order parts for a recall. They told me they would call me with 2 to 3 weeks when they arrive, or call me and give me updates as to when they would arrive.today is august 28, and i have heard nothing.i expected they would call me, so i forgot all about it, but now i'm trying to make sure all my errands are done before school starts tomorrow, and i am just realizing i have had no call, no updates, nothing from them in over 2 months.my registration is due in november, and i work with the dmv, and i know if you do not take care of a recall before your tags are due, you do not get your tags. I don't want to be scrambling in two months for someone to get me my parts. This is utterly ridiculous.i can't drive safely with anyone in my passenger seat because of this, and yet, the dealership takes no heat for this. That's not right at all.

I was driving 40 mph on state route 315 south. Cars in front of me stopped for a jack-knifed truck. I hit my brakes and slid on black ice. I slid 50 yards into the rear of another vehicle. My front in was smashed in, bending the radiator and frame, causing the hood to crumple and the side panels to jam the front doors shut. My head snapped forward and hit my chest upon impact, and then snapped back against the headrest. My car is totaled from this, and the airbags did not deploy. The collision impacted the entirety of the front of my vehicle.

Front passenger airbag inflator module. Possibly "takata recall", the letter i received didn't mention that. Today (4/15/2016) i received a letter from toyota. The letter isn't dated. It mentions that the airbag inflator module needs to be replaced and that passengers in my car have been, potentially, at serious risk. This is the first and, so far, only correspondence that i have received on this. The letter says that "they are currently preparing parts for my location" -- but when i called the dealer they already had the parts in, and have been working on these repairs for some time. But then why the hell am i just hearing about it now???i feel like toyota and the dealer (frontier toyota in santa clarita, california) hasn't remedied this defect within a reasonable period of time.

I backed my 2008 toyota corolla out of my garage, with the steering wheel turned left.i used the remote control to close the garage door.i put my foot on the brake and put the car in drive, intending to pull forward and to the right up the drive.i gently gave the car some gas, but the car accelerated suddenly before i could turn the wheel.as a result, the unstoppable car shot off the driveway and down a slope where i crashed head on into a tree.the airbags failed to deploy.

Rep. Look at the car to determine why the front air bags did not deploy.the dealership attempted to tell us that the airbags should only deploy during a front impact, but the car did in fact sustain heavy damages do to the impact but the airbags did not deploy.the impact was so great that the steel stabilizer bar was completely ripped off.that alone should have triggered the airbags to deploy.the car is currently not drivable due to the numerous damage sustained to the front end, motor, radiator & other parts.we are waiting to hear from the dealer, my insurance adjuster & toyota to find out why this important safety feature did not work as it was designed to.
While driving my 2008 toyota corolla le at 55 mph, i encountered a deer and was involved in a collision with the animal, on saturday, february 19th, 2011. The collision totaled the vehicle, resulting in nearly 11k dollars in damage. The driver's side airbag during the accident became dislodged from the steering wheel, and fell out into my lap. The two torque screws used to hold it in the steering wheel assembly failed to function properly. I reported the incident to toyota's complaint department and filed a formal grievance. A factory representative came out to see the vehicle and inspect the screws, and said that they are not at fault and that the problem "had to be my fault" after comparing my vehicle to other toyota corolla vehicles, stating that i or someone else "had to of removed the airbag at some time during the vehicle's life". I purchased the vehicle used in january, 2011 from a reputable dealer and received a vehicle history. At no time was the airbag reported to have been deployed or serviced, and the screws require a specialized torque screwdriver to remove.at the time of the accident, i had owned the vehicle only a month, and had not driven it more than three times, as i own another primary vehicle.this is a serious safety defect, and i have several witness statements showing that the airbag assembly was not properly secured. Had the airbag deployed while in my lap, i could have been killed or seriously injured. The entire airbag assembly, carriage, charge, and wires came out of the steering wheel itself.updated 05/26/11updated 06/06/11

2008 toyota corolla comes with anti-theft protection. There is a flashing red light near the ignition which stops flashing after we insert the key in the ignition. This is the engine immobilizer system.sometimes (rarely), what happens is that after i insert the key in theignition the light keeps flashing and the car does not start. This is probably because the computer in the car thinks that the wrong key has beeninserted.agreed that this problem happens only rarely, but when it happens i cannot start the car and i get stranded. I then have to take help from friends to pick me up from wherever i get stranded. I hadpurchased this car brand new, i certainly do not expect this quality from a new vehicle.

While driving on the interstate going 65mph the car suddenly turned completely off. There was absolutely no power, no power brakes, steering ,all the gauges looked as if the car had not been started. It restarted by itself after about 15 seconds which was a good thing as it would have been difficult to maneuver the car from the middle lane to the shoulder in heavy traffic with very limited steering and brake and decelerating rapidly.

I have to turn on alert light, stop car, move to park position in the middle of highway.then turn on the engine again. It's very danger at highway.

My car had difficulty starting after getting the new battery last month, and a couple days ago my engine stalled as i slowed it down to stop in the busy traffic road while i was going to the dealership to get it checked. I had it towed to the nearest dealership assuming that a wrong battery was installed, but it turned out to be a bad ecm. I had to get it fixed by paying over $800. The thing is the ecm unit in my car was a replaced one in the past as the toyota recalled it. I am really scared of driving my car now because it might happen again in the future, and i wonder if toyota knows this issue that the ecm does not recognize a new battery well. I read the same story while searching for this problem.

I have received a safety recall from toyota, i went to the dealership to fix it, dealership did it , but i have received the safety recall again stating that records indicate that the vehicle has not yet had this condition corrected.it is either the dealer did not report it or dealer did not do it.
The car i have referenced had a recall for the ecm unit in 2011.the unit was replaced (6/29/2011) for car not starting or stopping and shuttingoff.soldering bad causing cracks in board.on 10/3/2011 the car had to be reprogrammed because the car would sometimes turn over but not start, then 30 min or so the card would start.now the same problem is occurring. I have actually been in my car over night.i stopped at a store, turn off the car went inside for 10 min. This was around 6:00 pmcame back out car would not start until the next morning around 8:15 am. I slept in my car so i did not have to leave on the side of the road or in a parking lot!everyone seems to ignore what is happening here. This is repetitive for this car.you already have a a complaint from a person dated 2010 where his ecm had to be replaced two to three times and he is still unhappy.at least my car has gone a little longer than his had.i do not have hundreds of dollars to pay for continuing to fight what is already in black and white at toyota.help me get this car fixed at their cost.if this was not a repeating issue, i would gladly pay for it, but it is repetitive!!!!!!this is an on going thing and started about a u=year ago. My case number with toyota usa is:1709051915 where i talked with them about this at the first of september.they say once a recall is complete there is nothing they can do. The problem i am having is highlighted on the attachment dated 10/3/2011

Failure of the electronic control module
Stalls while driving, faulty ecm.heavy traffic, had to push car out of traffic.
While stopping at a red light on a highway, the car engine stalled and shut off.
My wifewas pulling into a parking spot in front of a bagel shop and the car just lost control accelerating , not stopping until it crashed into a pillar. Causing extreme damage to the car.
I purchased my car as the first owner in 2008 paid cash.within a few years an engine light came on and they said it was the transmission.i kept up with all maintenance. I had purchased an extended warranty of which was still valid and because the dealership could not find what was exactly wrong - my warranty would not cover no replace and i was charged over $1500.i took this to bueru of automotive and they ruled in my favor so now i will be suing your company for monies owed on top of other things due to the company not being willing to give me my money back or fixing my vehicle.i have been a loyal driver of toyota vehicles forever and a transmission should never go out in first 5 years - my car is still on the road but does not go backward - so there is something obviously wrong with this model amongst other things.the dealership manage to break my hood and the stick of which you put your car into drive with.i don't know if it is just clovis toyota or what - but i am truly disappointed as to you how your company has handled my situation.not only has your companyrobbed my family of a christmas, hard earned money as a single parent but also put us in danger.my air bags are bad as well and i never received notification and when i put my vin in way back when- it said nothing was wrong. Ridiculous.my car is just a mess and unfortunately - i love my car.it has been most faithful and god is good to me and my family -but your company has not!
Failure of the electronic control module
We got the recall notices for our two 2008 corollas.. For the nhtsa campaign number: 10v384000.. Then we got the other letter saying that we can go and get our cars serviced. We did and there they told us that both our cars werent affected by the recall. Yet while we where waiting to be called up one of the mechanics told me that both our cars needed to get whatever they where going to do to them done.. Ever since then we have had our check engine light on, for both cars.. We have spent a large amount of money trying to pass smog checks in california... Are there any i dont know records of what circuit boards had that problem? i want for my mechanic to check if indeed the board we have on our cars wasnt a part of the recall or if we got screwed... Do the boards have serial numbers and is it know what serial numbers needed the recalls. The toyota people didnt even open the hood of the car... We waited a couple hours to finally get called up and then they had the car two minutes and told us our car was good. Though it wasnt, it had all the symptoms of the recall.. I would like to know also what it is they said about the recall on ouyr cars.. Did they say they fixed them or what. That would be interesting to me.. Now unfortunately the kept the recall notices.. So i dont have any of those.. Ever since that recall its been an uphill battle wit this car.
In 2010 , engine light started to come on and off, i went to toyota, was told the light had to be on at the time for proper diagnosis at a fee. I have also gone to other service locations for a second opinion and was told, after a complimentary diagnosis, that it was caused by the throttle. Recently, i received a notice ofa civil lawsuit from other toyota owners with my vin number ( last 4 digits) due to a defective throttle that has caused car crashes due involuntary acceleration. I have called a local toyota dealer in hollywood, fl on taft street and 441, spoke with an employee who confirmed there was a recall for the defective throttle and scheduled an appointment to bring the car in for adjustment at no cost. I took the car in on saturday, april 5, spoke with another employee who advised there was no recall for my car, will have it checked anyway. After 2 hours of waiting, he reiterated there was no recall for my car, advised there is a problem with ecm at a fee of $180.00 plus $3 - $4k for transmission and an extended list of other problems to repair. I have just checked site and see engine recall reflected for toyota corollas year 2003-2008, and am reaching out to you for your assistance. This is a fairly new car and should not have this problem that toyota is not owning up to. Thank you for your attention and assistance.

I had my toyota corolla 08 serviced on 4/5/11 due to a recall for the engine control module. After the toyota dealer looked at they determined it did not need to be replaced according to "lot #7238" and on 8-21-2012 my wife was driving on the highway going 55 mph when all of the sudden the vehicle's electrical system just cut off. Luckily there were no cars in front of her at a distance and it started to slow down until she was able to control it and manage to park at the median. She said that the breaks did not work and the power steering did not work. She was terrified at that moment and feared for her life. The next day i took the car to the dealer and explained what had happened. They just told me that there was a recall and it should be fixed immediately. I asked the representative why this recall was not taken care of the first time i went to the dealer. He had told me that at that time it was not necessary to change the part which affected the electrical system. Well they should not have wasted my time, but looking back they were negligent on their part. I could have lost my loved one or one of my beloved children which could have devastating for me.

I had to replace the serpentine belt, because it was squeaking (dry and cracked); i complained to toyota about having to replace it after such a short time but was told basically that they didn't care, since the car was out of warranty. I have had ongoing - and i thought unrelated - issues with the gears slipping but couldn't identify a cause. In january 2015, i had an accident because the gears slipped. On july 17, 2015, i had the serpentine belt replaced for a second time, because it was starting to squeak again. Much to my surprise, the new belt, not made by toyota, solved the other problems i've had with shifting (my car is a manual transmission). The mechanic said that he had heard complaints from other toyota owners about having to replace the serpentine belt, a part that should last approx. 100,000 miles/10 years, after only 3 years. It was his opinion that the belt was defective. The difference a new, non-toyota belt has made to my car - unexpectedly resolving the other issues i was having - has convinced me that toyota is making a defective and dangerous product, one that they fail to acknowledge.

The engine light went on and black smoke was coming out and i went from 70 miles down to 40 miles an hour . Then it would not start had to be towed home. Was told the engine was gone. Had the engine replaced. 5-18-2015
During driving in freeway, the engine light came up and then shut down the engine. During trips to toyota dealership they were unable to discover the problem or duplicate it in first occasion. However after returning of the car and insisting of the problem, with repetition of the problem, toyota replaced the electronic control module. This should have been resolved through previous recall but it may have not been fully addressed. The issue was potentially ecm internal fuse was shutting down the electronic control module causing the car to stop. I do not know if this affects the braking due to stopping the car. At all the occasion this happened to me the car shut down and came to stop. After the restart of the car, the problem stays hidden for a while but comes back again. The issue is discovery of the problem is almost impossible unless detailed work and evaluation has been done. Toyota agreed with the defect and replaced ecm without any charges for may car.
I bought a car second hand from a dealer 4 months ago and was not aware of the recall on the vehicle.when we looked up the vin number, it was on the list.we called toyota world of newton, new jersey and brought the vehicle in.they tested it and told us everything was okay instead of replacing the part.totally disgusted with the businesses in this county.they are looking to make money off of us at another time.if any accident occurs or breakdown as a result of this recall, we will seek legal action against toyota, the dealer we bought the vehicle from and call the news media with the story.
The engine light is on and when check there is problem with catalytic converter.
Engine check light came on, without apparent reason (i.e. Not behind on maintenance schedule).shortly after, engine started stalling; first time just fell like engine was being sluggish and needed to give more gas to get power; second time, car nearly fell still (down to a couple of mph's), even when applying serious gas (and clearly hitting high rpm & engine roaring loudly).just managed to pull the car aside.when towtruck arrived 30 minutes later, problem had disappeared... (for now).a quick check on google sounds like this may be due to many causes, from simple air intake sensor, to more serious ecm problems.either ways, having your engine stall suddenly seems pretty dangerous, especially if this happens in busy traffic.plan to have this checked out immediately.
Got recall notice that part was available for repair of 2008 toyota corolla engine control model repair. I called and part is on back order and will not be available until at least june 2001...not taking waiting list just keep calling back in june for part availability. Upset with toyota for lack of parts, moved very slow on development of parts and with local toyota somerset dealership for not assisting by notifying when parts in told to keep calling back.

2008 toyota corolla4-door sedan ce showed suddenly "check engine light" while being driven. A few minutes later, the car abruptly turned off and would not restart. Vehicle was towed to dealer. Informed by dealer that problem was defective engine computer (fp no 89661-02r00) and that corollas in model years 2004-07 commonly had problem. However, no recall has been issued by company though it has extended the warranty on the part. Computer replaced without charge.this is a very dangerous defect as it occurs without warning and could have resulted in accident or injury or stranding of the motorist in a dangerous area. While driving, a strap on the fuel tank and the catalytic converter heat shield both, simultaneously, became loose and began rattling terribly.i continued driving the car in order to get home, a distance of about 200 miles, with the loud noise continuing throughout.i thought the heat shield was loose, which it was, but i did not realize the fuel tank strap had failed, or i would not have continued driving because of the danger of fire.i took the car to the dealership.they showed me that the strap and the shield were both loose because bolts holding them in place had rusted through.this car is not old nor is it driven very many miles.the dealer replaced the strap and the shield at a cost of $476.
As i was driving my 2008 toyota corolla through the intersection of illinois route 60 in vernon hills on march, 17,2010 my vehicle's check engine light became activated and my car completely shut down in traffic almost creating a traffic accident . While driving on the highway, i noticed a clicking sound resulting from the needle on the rpm meter dropping to 0.the check engine light went on, and my engine stalled.i lost power steering and power braking, and coasted on momentum to the shoulder of the highway.i was able to restart the car, but the check engine light was still on and the engine shut off a few seconds later.i had the car towed home.

My son has a2007 corolla. About two weeks ago, he noticed his air conditioning was not cooling. He too it to a toyota dealership to befixed since he only has 17,000 miles on the car. They refused to fix the condenser. They are trying to say it is a road hazard and his fault. Toyota had the same problems with the 2005 and 2006 corolla. Now it has happened with the 2007. They want to charge him $800.00. The car is under warranty and there is no reason for something to damage the condenser. If the condenser was protected, this could not happen. We have contacted toyota and they refuse to work with us.

I own a 2008 toyota corolla. I experienced a stall at an intersection recently. I have only owned the car for several weeks (it was bought used with 11,000 miles on odometer).
Monday, august 23, 2010, while driving on a main highway with a hill my car stalled. My check engine light was the only thing showing in my dash. I pushed the gas pedal to the floor; the vehicle continued to slow down and i was frightened that someone would rear end me or that my car would start rolling back down the hill. Thank god no one was traveling at the legal speed of 65 mph when this happened. I turned my vehicle back in the direction that i came from to have my husband help me look for why this happened. He said most likely it was the battery and replaced it that evening.tuesday, august 24, 2010, late evening i parked my car in a poteau oklahoma shopping center for about an hour after driving some twenty plus miles. I returned to my car; it appeared to start ok; however, when i shifted to drive it shifted hard and the vehicle began lurching forward. The check engine light had come back on. I shifted toward park and noticed that when it reached the reverse on gear shift console the hard shift lessened but in park no harshness or lurching. I phoned my husband that it had happened again and he came with the car hauler and hauled my vehicle home.please do not allow toyota corporation to issue only a technical service bulletin, my warranty (36,000) recently expired. I have not yet taken to service.

I have a 2008 toyota corolla. On four separate occasions after coming to a complete stop the engine accelerated. I immediately put the transmission into neutral and the engine rpm increased to 6000rpm. After the first occurrence i removed the floor mats at toyota's request even though they were no where near the accelerator and the condition re-occurred. Both the local and regional toyota rep checked the car and found nothing wrong. I put the floor mats back - again no where near the accelerator and on 2 july the unintended acceleration occurred again when i was on a trip. When i returned i brought the car to my local dealer they checked the car and found nothing. The regional toyota rep would not come to inspect it because the floor mats were in place - but again they are no where near the accelerator. I was told to bring it in if it happens again and to remove the floor mats. My wife and mother in law were in the car during the last incident and they were very frightened. My wife will no longer drive the car. I do not feel that the car is safe but have no choice since i cannot afford another car. The accelerator is not sticking but it is advancing to cause the higher rpms. I'm not sure why toyota does not realize this.
Received notice of defect with engine control module in october of 2010 from toyota motor sales usa.follow up notice was stated by toyota to be given at later date. In february 2011 received notice from toyota that defect with ecm was confirmed and could cause engine failure and possibly serious injury from driving vehicle caused by the ecm failure.our car was already suffering the exact systems of ecm failure.immediately took vehicle to don mcgill toyota located at 21555 katy, freeway, katy, texas 77450.spoke with assistant service manager, [xxx] of don mcgill toyota dealership.[xxx] informed me that don mcgill toyota and toyota did not have a replacement part for the defect in stock and it would have to be ordered from the manufacturer, toyota. [xxx] also stated he would call me to schedule the defective part replacement in 3-5 business days upon the part arrival from toyota the manufacturer.well it has been almost 2 weeks now and i have not recieved any call from [xxx] or toyota to replace the defective ecm.it is apparent to me that toyota and don mcgill could care less about safety to my family while driving this defective vehicle manufactured by toyota and sold to me by don mcgill.would please intervene in the name of safety for my family and others that have purchased this defective car product before injury occurs!information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
S10 appropriate handling-memo to the secretary from -petition for an investigation into toyota's safety system failures (full document not imaged) *tgwthe consumer hit a large dear and the air bags failed to deploy. The consumer stated as he saw the deer,he immediately removed his foot from the accelerator to slow down, but the vehicle did not respond, so he tried to maintain the speed he had been driving. The consumer applied both feet to the brake pedal in an effort to stop the vehicle, but it was too late.prior to the accident, the catalytic converter failed. The dealer stated a sensor was stuck which caused it to fail.
Approached stop sign at moderate speed and put on brake. The engine sped up to the point that both feet had to brake hard until engine idled down. Pushing gas made no difference during this time.this has occurred a number of timestw*
Radio is switching stations and randomly jumping stations will not stop and has not yet been replaced.
Failed floor jack. The gear mechanism failed while the car was lifted and caused the car to partially drop. The top of the jack bent and broke but luckily the car did not fall all the way to the ground.

On four separate occasions the engine revved up to 6000rpm on my 2008 toyota corolla ce when i was stopped. My foot was off the accelerator and no floor mats were near the accelerator. I brought it to my dealer but they did not find anything wrong with it. I reported it to toyota corporate but they have not responded other then to say that to tell me that my car was not covered by the recall.
The contact owns a 2008 toyota corolla. While driving approximately 35 mph, there was a loud banging noise outside of the vehicle. The contact stated the front end of the fuel tank shield partially detached due to a loose bolt whichcompletely rusted. The contact planned to take the vehicle to the dealer to be repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 13,500. The vin was unavailable.
On aug. 1, 2008i bought a certified used 2008 toyota corolla with 5,420 miles on it from manhattan beach toyota, in manhattan beach, ca. After driving it for several weeks, i realized there was something troublingabout the accelerator. Whenever i depressed the accelerator to make a standing start -- when a traffic signal turned green, for example -- the car would often lurch forward in an uncontrollable manner. I soon traced the problem to the position of my foot on the accelerator. If my foot was in just the right position -- low to midway on the pedal, with my heel closest to the floor -- i had complete control. But if i miscalculated and placed my foot ever so slightly higher on the pedal, the car would lurch forward even when i applied the same pressure. I could regain control only by quickly taking my foot off the accelerator and/or hitting the brakes. The toyota dealership that maintains my car repeatedly said i should not worry -- that as the car's computer got used to my driving habits, it would eventually adjust the action of the accelerator to my touch.but nothing changed. Now i take extra care to try and get my foot in just the right spot before accelerating from a standing start. Sometimes i am successful, other times not. In anticipation of trouble,i make it a point to leave plenty of extra space between me and the car ahead of me, so i won't rear end it if the accelerator sends me lurching forward.i have become resigned to the problem, because i am a toyota fan and like everything else about the car. I never thought to complain about this until a new york times story indicated that other toyota owners have had the same problem, and (i believe) had notified your agency.(pls ignore the dates i entered below; the problem persists to this day, but your form would not allow me to so indicate.)

I smell gas and the check engine light comes on the car cuts out then acts like it goes into a low gear.this happens when driving.so far nothing major has happened but who knows when it could change. This started over a year ago.we had it checked and it showed 5codes which indicated the charcoal fuel filter canister was bad.we was told the cost of the part would be $300.00 and was told by the dealer they have had a lot of these problems with it and have replaced a lot if them at the owners expense which is between $300-$500 with labor cost.toyota had recalled this part up to 2006 but not beyond.we have checked into this and there have been thousands of people having the same problem.we have contacted toyota corp and have a case # 1405291178. We contacted them today again and was told they are not going to do anything about this problem and would have to just live with it.we feel this isn't right.we are senior citizens and on a fixed income.we can't afford this.toyota should recall this part but we can't get anything done.we are very upset that toyota will not take care of their vehicles.

The driver side axle shaft assembly unexpectedly snapped when i went to shift the car into first gear when a light for which i was stopped turned green. There was enough of a connection for me to get off the busy rush hour road before being struck and killed or hurt by other vehicles. It was towed to a local toyota dealer where they indicated the shaft had snapped and replaced it. They did not find any problems with the clutch or transmission (5 speed manual). The service rep identified the cause as a cut boot (shaft seal) which allowed grease to come out and dirt to get into the joint causing the failure. The rep noted this was "common". I asked if there were any warning for the condition. He noted there is none. The car is regularly serviced (this was noted by the rep); no abnormal conditions with the shaft seal were noted in any service visit. A catastrophic failure of a axle shaft assembly that renders the car immovable without warning is extremely unsafe and is not common. It risks the lives of anyone in the car or on the road near it when the shaft fails. I have never had a axle shaft fail on any other car i have owned and driven. I believe there is a defect and/or flaw with design, material specification, manufacturing process, and/or the quality of this component. I contacted toyota to report the issue. They said to work with the dealer on inspections; i noted i have. They did not acknowledge the inherent large safety concern with such a failure. I had the car inspected by a independent mechanic a few days following return of the vehicle on 6jun2016; no issues were noted at this time. I question the safety and reliability of this car given the nature and significance of this failure. Toyota needs to review design and manufacturing to ensure such a unsafe failure is anything but common.unsafe, unreliable cars should not be accepted as common.
When the car is first started in is reved up at 2000rpm. When driving 40mph & up or from third to fourth gear the rpms reve up to 3000rpm before shifting. Car also feels like hard shifting from first to second, lags when taking a turn and pressing gas at same time. Check engine light has now came on p0741. Feels like pushing the max when trying to get fast speeds. Also feels like when slowing down that the transmission is still in high gear and rmps are high. When stopped and foot on the brake the transmission still feels like it's trying to go forward. As driving on highway at 70 mph the transmission surges loses power at high speeds. I have been told the the torque converter solenoid is not operating correctly on the transmission which is causing these issues. This is also the same issue we have with our 2005 toyota corolla, same code same problems. This is a defective that seems to be the issue in corolla automatic transmission.
The contact owns a 2008 toyota corolla. While driving approximately 40 mph, the vehicle's speed abruptly downshifted without warning. Since, i bought this car brand new it would make noise rattle like something was loose. Every time i would take the vehicle in they would keep it the whole day for days and i was without transportation. They refused to lend me a vehicle. And at the end stated there was nothing wrong. Making it look like i was hearing things. The 2nd issue is when i put in reverse for example i want to parallel park and put it in reverse it gets stuck and reverses super fast. When i took back they said they heard it then they did not. Now the reverse part and rattle noise is worse. This has been happening and i go in to leave the car to complain about the same issues but on the paper they would always change the complaint to a new one. This is what has happened since i bought the car. At first they were nicebut once i was out they were helpless. Then i had to return various times for a letter i got in the mail that the vehicle was on "recall". Ever since buying a brand new car from toyota has been a bad experience because i was with a new car but with the conditions of a used car.and to top it off they charge me to inspect the vehicle.sadly to say these people don't car once they get you hooked on the car. Once you're out your alone and they won't back up their vehicles. And another issue the batteries died fast and i had to pay for a new one.and since they know one needs a car their is nothing to do but to suck it upthis sucks!! warning!!
A run away full throttle engine in a 2008 toyota corolla (purchased in fall of 2007).i accidentally backed up into a tree at 2 to 3 mph.the rear bumper of the car hit the tree squarely causing no visible damage to car.the engine of the car did not die out after the impact.upon shifting from reverse to drive -- the car lurched full speed forward (with full acceleration) despite full application of the foot brake and no application of the accelerator.i quickly placed the car in neutral and shut off the engine to avoid running into pedestrians, building and trees.after inspecting the car for damage and any carefully placing the car in park with parking brake and foot brake engage i restarted the engine.the car has run normally since this incident which took place july of 2008.

I was driving in the country with my daughter. I was driving slow because i had never driven that road before and there was a speed limit 30 and the 45 mph. There was a stop sign where i needed to turn right. I started slowing down but the car would complete the stop. So, i turned right and the car suddenly accelerated and got out of control. It was accelerating and moving left and right like crazy. I tried to hold the steering wheel tight but i wasn't able to do that because it was out of control. The brakes didn't work either. There were small hills on the both sides of the road that's why the car kept driving from side to side. Probably 3000-4000 feet from the stop sign there was a big iron gate leading to the pasture. My car knocked down the whole gate and kept moving into the pasture. Finally the car hit another pole and a fence and stopped. The car is totaled. Fortunately i didn't suffer any serious injures except i suffered constant headaches for a couple of weeks and my daughter had long scratches across her throat from a seatbelt. This is a miracle that we are alive. If it had happened on a highway, it would have been really bad. Two of our church members drove 2 minutes after me so that i received help from them. They didn't witness the crash but they saw where it happened, how the place of accident looked like, and long marks that my car left on the sides of the road. Also, i got a police report where it says that the driver didn't do anything improper and there is a map of the place of the accident attached. I have contacted toyota and haven't had any response yet. First the representative said that it takes them 30 days to make a decision, later he said that it's 60 days. The inspector came and got the cdr data from the car. He didn't explain anything to me but he emailed a crash data files and said to wait a call from toyota.
I found out the car i purchased from a dealer is giving me problems with the tires beaks and alignment. The car had wrong size tires , the breaks were uneven also when i would drive over a puddle it would shake. I spend money on getting new tires paying for alignment and the problems continues, i found the axle and power steering rack with part problems. That need fixing also the steering wheel is not centered and the wheel hub has broken its bolts i think its a faulty manufacture issue. The tmps has also have problems with lighting up on the dash board and not turning off tmps i think is the air pressure in the wheels.
The contact owns a 2008 toyota corolla. The contact stated that while depressing the brake pedal, the rpms increased and the vehicle lurched forward without warning. Upon starting my car, on this particular morning, i noticed a revving sound. It didn't sound like anything normally related to start-up, but i assumed that maybe it was a momentary glitch. I switched the car into reverse and the revving sound increased. It sounded as if someone had floored the accelerator. (i was later asked how many mph. To me, it sounded as though i were going about 50 mph.) while in reverse, and with the increasing revving sound and rpm, my brakes locked on me and the dashboard lights all came on. I was able to shift back into park and shut off the car. I contacted toyota to inquire about any recalls on my car and explained what had taken place. I was told by the corporation that there were no recalls and to bring it in for servicing to the dealership. The dealership pulled up a service history report showing that they had done a recall repair on my car several years earlier. They dismissed my claim, saying that they could find nothing wrong with my car and that it was driver error. The service manager refused to submit a report for investigation into unintended acceleration, stating that he believed that an increase in rpm is unrelated to acceleration. He also made several attempts to sell me another car. I appealed to the corporate office for toyota recall. I expressed my concern over the safety of my vehicle and the risk of continuing to operate it. Their sentiments were, "what do you want me to do?".over a several day period, toyota stated they could find nothing- even with their advanced diagnostic process that they insisted i underwent. I took my car to a third-party certified mechanic, who was able to identify that part of the problem may have been related to a battery leak and a terminal that needed replacement. I do not feel that toyota took a genuine interest in my issue, due to the lack of opportunity to profit from my problem.
Driving on my way to work was involved in a crash in which my brakes did not come to a complete stop, causing me to crash in to a car in front of me.
Yesterday morning i was driving slowly up to a stop sign. I downshifted and applied the brakes, but the car would not come to a stop. I had to roll through the intersection. This is not the first time that this has occurred since i purchased the vehicle. I continued on. I was driving 30 mph in a 40 mph zone. I again slowed down and downshifted to turn into a driveway. The brakes again failed. It felt as though i could not press down hard enough on the brakes to stop. I could not turn out of the way of a garbage can and pile of rocks, just missing a mailbox. There is now minor, cosmetic damage to the front of my vehicle. This problem has inconsistently occurred over the last year. Shortly after i bought the vehicle, i brought it back due to the brakes not feeling right, and a metal on metal sound that occurred when i pressed on the brakes. Toyota looked at the brakes and said that they were behaving normally. Again, this morning i brought the vehicle in because i could not control it in yesterday's incident. The service department at toyota looked at the vehicle, test drove it with me, but the issue did not occur so there was nothing more they could do about it.

My wife was driving her new (one month old) 2008 toyota corolla (basic 4-door sedan) on a local expressway when the car in front braked abruptly. My wife applied the brakes but could not bring the car to a complete halt even though there was considerable distance between the two vehicles. She complained that the brakes were "loose". We took the car to the dealer immediately, but they told us there was no problem with the brakes. We left thinking maybe it was our driving- though we are very safe drivers. Since then, whenever i drove the vehicle, a number of times i found that the car does not stop when i brake, and i usually have to swerve to the side to avoid the car in the front. We have found this problem when we are driving usually between 35-45mph speed. Now with toyota discovering problems with the brakes in 2009-10 vehicles, i suspect this problem also exists in the 2008 toyota corolla vehicles as well.
The contact owns a 2008 toyota corolla.while the contact was driving down an incline approximately between 40-45 on wet road surfaces, the brakes were engaged and suddenly the compression braking system activated. The front wheels began to lock resulting in the vehicle to skid sideways. When the gear was shifted into the neutral position the contact was able to gain complete control of the vehicle and resumed normally. The contact stated when encountering wet, icy or snow covered roads the failure would occur. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for diagnosis. The technician was unable to locate a problem and informed that there was not a recall related to the failure. An incident report was filed with the manufacturer. The failure mileage was 37,500.
Brakes are locking the wheels without application of brakes and the disks are getting smokey and hot. This problem is appearing randomly. The vehicle was taken to the fort bend toyota dealership (20465 southwest freeway, richmond, texas, ph: 281-341-5900) where it was purchased from.on 04/13/2009 the vehicle stayed at the service department all the day and was returned with comment "no problem found" (customer #: 349764, invoice #: 184059). The problem appeared again on 04/17/2009 evening and 04/18/2009 morning. The vehicle was taken back to the same dealership again. It seems the dealership is trying to coverup the manufacturer's defect and not repairing it. This could damage the vehicle.please advise us.

I own a 2008 toyota corolla ce. When i drive and then stop and or go in reverse my car makes a weird noise. I took it to the dealer it was purchased from three times and they say it's the brake pads sliding when you use the brake. They say they don't know how to repair it. They say if they replace the brakes the noise will return once i use the brakes. They say when the brakes are used the brake pad slides forward or reverse depending on direction of travel. I call another toyota dealer in my area and they told me the same thing.
The contact owns a 2008 toyota corolla.while driving approximately 50 mph with the brake pedal depressed, the vehicle decelerated to 40 mph.the contact released the brake pedal and when she attempted to reapply the brakes, the pedal would not move.after 30 seconds, the pedal moved slightly, but the vehicle would not stop and crashed into the rear end of another vehicle.the road conditions were wet.a police report was filed.the vehicle was driven to the dealer.while at the dealer, the gear would not shift from park into drive.the vehicle remains at the dealer and has not been repaired.the front license plate was dented.the current and failure mileages were 1,000.
The contact owns a 2008 toyota corolla. While driving approximately 10-15 mph in her driveway the front end of the vehicle began to make a clanking noise.she turned the vehicle off, observed the noise, and restarted the vehicle. As she engaged the brakes, they did not responded as normal. The vehicle was taken to three dealers who were unable to duplicate the failure. She stated that the failure was intermittent at first but the longer she drove the vehicle the more constant the failure became. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic who stated that the shims were missing which he added additional ones. The contact also stated that when you engaged the accelerator pedal everything that was electrical began to dim low and then normal. She also stated that the rear defroster does not work. The contact stated that the dealer performed a diagnostic test and was unable to locate the failure. The failure mileage was unknown and the current mileage was 38,027.
Problems with the brakes were reported to the toyota dealer in 12/08.they dismissed the complaint.in feb. 2009, the car brakes did not work and the car crashed into another vehicle.the police report clearly states that the brakes did not work.vehicle was towed and taken to the toyota dealer, again, the dealer dismissed the complaint saying everything was ok.the dealer and the sales and technical specialist.said that everything was ok and alluded to the age of the driver as a possible cause of the accident.i am concerned that the problem may be with stuck gas pedal but they never checked or mentioned this as a possible cause.as a consumer, this would not even occur to me.i can simply state that the car crashed because the brakes did not work.toyota refuses to check to see if the 2008 corolla also has problems with sticky gas pedals with this vehicle.we need your help in insuring our safety because we are afraid that toyota willnot.
The contact owns a 2008 toyota corolla. The contact was driving approximately 25 mph in rainy weather when the vehicle began to skid abnormally. The contact attempted to apply the brakes and the vehicle then turned 180 degrees before crashing into a pole. The vehicle sustained substantial body damage. The vehicle was then towed to an authorized dealer where the contact was advised that there were no failure found within the vehicle.the dealer stated that the vehicle would be further inspected. The failure and current mileage was 31,000.
2008 toyota corolla.vehicle was parked, started and then put in reverse.upon applying the brakes while in reverse the car would not stop.seems as if the brakes would not engage.vehicle hit a mailbox and then stopped.same problem occurred approx 1 month later.again low vehicle speed and no accident reported.
Twice, upon severe braking from freeway speeds my 2008 toyota corolla experienced severe instability and wandered all over the highway.my toyota dealer inspected the vehicle and determined the brakes were operating as designed, but blamed the instability on the lack of abs or skid control on my vehicle.i think all vehicles should stop in a straight line without these aids, as all my previous automobiles dating back to 1936 all have done.
Loud, cracking sound in brakes.
I bought a 2008 toyota corolla ce brand new from the dealer. Only a few months after, i started hearing a very loud clunking sound in the brakes when i backup and brake and then when i pull forward and brake. It is an alarming sound so i took it to the dealer it was purchased from at least three times since and they say it's the brake pads sliding when i brake. They say the only thing they can do for me is grease them, which they have done each time but it keeps returning. I called another toyota dealer to inquire about it and they told me the same thing. I recently started searching to see if i am the only one that complains of this problem and apparently i am not!! shouldn't toyota have some kind of a fix for this by now? please help i cannot even sell the car because everyone thinks there is something wrong with it.
The contact owns a 2008 toyota corolla. While driving 30 mph, the contact attempted to apply the brakes while approaching a traffic light. The brake pedal extended substantially farther into the floorboard than usual. The dealer was unable to offer a remedy for the failure. There were no repairs made to the vehicle. The vehicle was then taken to an independent mechanic where the master cylinder was replaced. The failure persisted. The failure mileage was 13,000 and the current mileage was 24,885. The contact owns a 2008 toyota corolla. The contact was driving approximately 65 mph on normal road conditions. Suddenly, there was a loss of steering control. The vehicle began to wander into another lane. The failure occurred intermittently. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for inspection. The technician performed a four wheel alignment. The failure occurrences continued without warning. The failure mileage was 200. The vin was unavailable.
Purchased my corolla '08model 6 pm on dec. 7th '08. During the following week i called the dealer because i was having difficulty keeping the car in a straight line it felt like the wind was blowing me left then right. But there wasn't wind. Like it was possessed, it veered off road on december 29th, 2008. The tire blew out and the fender crumpled which left a dent. Scared me to death, i took it in to the dealer repair shop and they made it look like it was my fault and that what i was saying was impossible. The repair tech took the car for a ride and suggested new tires in the front. They gave me 1 tire for which they tried charging me with an attitude, i argued the point that it was the car's fault and not mine. To shut me up they agreed to pay for the tire and let me leave with a car that weaves in and out at its own discretion, like it has a mind of its own. I called again to toyota during the month of january and was told and i quote, to bring the car back on a day without out wind so that the mechanic could test drive it. What a joke! finally on a day with heavy rain the car spun me out and i called the dealer to complain that the car felt like it was on skates and was told that i needed to bring the car in for evaluation when it wasn't raining or windy. Again a joke! i continued to try to drive this car but only to get me to work which is 20 minutes from my house on a city road. I don't drive on the hwy because i couldn't control the car. The weekend of valentines day 2010 my husband took us to ashevillenc. The car almost drove us into a tractor trailer, luckily my husband was driving who can lift 60lbs in 1 arm. He saved our lives. On feb18th we took the car to the dealer and told them were leaving it there and will get a ride home that we didn't care about it and would call a lawyer finally a nice man at toyota got the point and helped us by trading in the car for a new '10 toyota corolla, disappointing we got below value for the car butmy life is safe.
Power steering problem with my 2008 corolla. Steering was struck at one position and i had to tow my car to toyota service center.they informed some kind of belt problem. But from that day i am not convinced.

Steering column damaged airbag wiring, causing srs light to illuminate during normal driving.
2007 toyota corolla - power steering unit leaksbad rack-n-pinion unit after one year of driving and 37k miles.toyota would not honor repairs since i was over warranty by 1k - even though it was noticed one month prior and before the 36k mark.they said since i didn't service it at toyota they would not address it
Soon after i purchased my 2008 corolla, i noticed the car veers left and the wheel was a bit off, not centered. I took it in and asked them to check it,as well as the alignment. They told me it was fine and that the wheel just needed to be reset to its normal position. That was just under a year ago. I've since had the alignment checked and done, again, and the tires changed. However, the car continues to veer. Also, at higher speeds, the car tends to swerve from left to right, even though the roads are smooth and there is no wind (as is usually the case in california). I drive quite a bit so, this is obviously worrisome and the dealer insists nothing is wrong.
I was driving home from work during december. There was a horrible snow storm and we had to drive through some heavy snow and skidded a few times but gained control of the car. The incident happened when we were out of that area and clear up snow we slowed down to about 15 mph and the steering wheel locked up and a light came on and said to pull car over and call toyota as soon as possible. I called and they said it was probably the battery. I checked the battery and it was fine. It was charged normally. It has not happened lately but i am a bit worried about driving around in icy conditions incase it happens again!!

I heard rattling which i thought was from my trunk.after several attempts to locate the rattle, i discovered that it was my back window.there is a seal failure and you can literally lift the rear window in my 2008 toyota corolla.the toyota dealership tells me they have never seen anything like this before.the car had approximately 50,000 miles when i first noticed the problem.the dealership tells me that i shouldn't wait to get this repaired.however, the dealership also said they would repair the seal, but i have to pay for the part that goes around the rear window and that my 100,000 extended warranty will not cover this.unfortunately, that part does not go all the way around the rear window, leaves the bottom of the window exposed and thus the possibility for this to occur on all of these vehicles as well as reoccur on this one.i have taken pictures of this.i don't understand why i should pay for anything since this is not a wear and tear issue.it is defective!

Takata recall. The contact owned a 2008 toyota corolla. While driving approximately 30 mph, the front end of the vehicle collapsed violently to the ground. The failure caused the front passenger and driver side curtain air bags to deploy; however, both front air bags did not deploy. The front axle fractured and caused the front passenger side tire to be positioned outwardly. The vehicle was destroyed and towed to an independent mechanic. A police report was filed and there were no injuries. The vin was included in and repaired per nhtsa campaign number: 16v127000 (air bags). The failure occurred before the vehicle was serviced under the recall. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 135,000.

My toyota corolla ce sedan automatic, yr: 2008. Mileage 69938.warranty is out. 04/25/10 while my car was parked i started engine, gas pedal did not accelerate.,engine had low tone & slowly went off. I tried4-5 times, pressing on gas pedal while engine was on, same result. Finally.i started engine, without depressing gas pedal, i backed up,then, i put gear in drive & moved the car forward, after abt 2 minutes i depressed gas pedal, engine accelerated & drove on. It has been normal ever since. I had previous 2 similar cases but engine accelerated on 2nd try. 4/26/10, i reported it, as manufacturing defect, to toyota dealer& asked fixing it without charge to me. Dealer had car checked by a technician, he could not diagnose the cause & said i should leave it for complete inspection at $98/hr. Itold customer relations mgri could not pay it. He had the car inspected again, this time by head mechanic at workshop abt 20 minutes. He saidcarwas ok & could not diagnose the cause. 4/28/10 i faxed all in detail to toyota motor sales usa inc, torrance, ca, dept wc11 (customer experience center). 04/29/10, theyemailed"due to high contact volume, we are unable to respond to your inquiry in a timely manner and it may take several weeks to receive a response to your inquiry".4/27/10, i emailed"toyotaowners member registration" & registered myself as toyota member. Then, i reported my problem.05/04/10toyota called, a lady asked me to recount my story, again & again, obviously trying to worn me out. She said she had not seen my original report, so ifaxed her copy of my fax 5/04/10 & asked her help. 05/04/10, she emailed: i should contact dealership. "if the dealership discovers a warranty concern, all fees will be covered, otherwise you would be responsible for all costs related to the inspection....."my question to you (nhtsa-dot"= have similar cases been reported to you. What shall i do next ?
New vehicle for body and engine noise and various other noises not standard for a new vehicle.
Multiple times my car has slid on the pavement upon an abrupt stop. Deer in my travel routes are abundant. But on june 2, 2020 i heard a noise as i was driving. It appeared to be a suspension problem. I pulled over and inspected the car. The tire having over half it's tread threw a belt or had a huge bulge in the tire. It went from a noise to a load grumbling sound and a lot of vibration very quickly. The sliding was ongoing and i assumed because the car was small and light but never had this sliding effect from multiple other small cares i've owned. Then the tire bulge. I researched the tire and it appears cooper tire has major issues with their tires but this tire size i did not see as a recall. (mst p185/65r15 mc strategy bw 88t(n)) if i were on the interstate i could have lost control or flipped the car at a fast speed. Speed limit was 45mph where the tire separation happened. I'm now scared to death to even think of using a cooper tire. I can only imagine that as a novice driver this would cause multiple accidents. Fortunately i have driven professionally for multiple years and know to prepare for the extra 20 feet or more skid that is not preventable with these tires when stopping abruptly. The tire were professionally installedjuly 2, 2012 with 23126 miles on the odometer. Now miles are 46184. I can provide picture and tires purchase receipt if needed.

My wife was entering a perpendicular parking spot, she was approximately 10 to 15 feet from a retaining wall when all of a sudden our 2008 toyota corolla accelerated.her foot was on the brake, bringing it slowly into the parking spot, and to a stop.the car all of a sudden accelerated and sounded like some one accelerating the car if it was in park.our daughter and grandson's were in the car.the car hit the retaining wall causing $2500 damage to the front of the car.the retaining wall was made of railroad ties.a tie was knocked out of place (also rotten)this happened on private property, so authorities were not called. The air bags did not deploy, mainly because the car went up on the wall. Had she not been turning into a parking place, she would have went straight into a crowd of families.the toyota dealer was contacted, they were not interested in checking it out.toyota company was contacted, they pulled the data out of the computer, and checked the car out for brakes. Accelerator pedal, and floor mats, five weeks after the accident. Wereceived a letter from toyota stating the incident was not a result of any type of manufacture design or defect.during the time i was dealing with toyota i did some internet surfing trying to find information on toyota'shaving unintended acceleration (vehicle speed control).while looking in a consumer protection web page, "www-odi.nhtsa.got.gov/complaints/results.cfm" i found that hundreds of toyota corollas have had vehicle speed control problems, like ours. They are all similar, just a little different time during driving, but most happened while coming to a stop, and with different levels of damage.toyota is no help, it they were, they would be admitting they had a problem. The linkage between the accelerator pedal, and computer on these toyotas is electronic.it is my feeling the computer is getting a noise spike, or have a timing problem in their computer.now i have a car that my wife won't drive.updated ivoq 02/10/11

My corolla's accelerator sticks from time to time.the recall for this problem was for 2009 and later model years but still affects the 2008 model.toyota will not take any action short of charging to fix this issue even though deaths have been reported for this problem.

On 8/29/08 i was slowly accelerating as i pulled onto the highway when i experienced what i have come to understand was an sua, a sudden unintended acceleration.with head-on traffic coming at me fast i had no choice but to turn sharply to get off the road.my rear axle was caught on a berm of dirt at the edge of a cornfield.braking had no effect.as i sat there i realized the engine was racing wildly.there was no obstruction to the gas peddle, so i had to cut off the engine by turning the key off.my car is a 2008 toyota corolla.the road was dry, however, it was a damp morning and chilly.i have had no recurrences.i am a safety compliance officer with osha so i immediately began investigating the electronic throttle system.i do not feel the addition of the plate behind the gas pedal is the solution.toyota told me at the time of the accident that it woulddo no good to replace the throttle sensor, so i realized that they had a defect problem.i am looking into adding a smart throttle software plug-in to provide an override to the throttle.toyota refused to tell me who made the part or from whom they purchased it.please provide me that information if possible.please continue your investigation, and i would suggest widening it to include all drive-by-wire systems.
The contact owns a 2008 toyota corolla. The contact stated that while shifting into the park position, the vehicle suddenly accelerated to 35 mph and crashed into the rear of a parked vehicle. The contact placed both feet on the accelerator pedal but could not gain control of the vehicle. There were no injuries but a police report was filed. The vehicle had not been taken to an authorized dealership for diagnosis at the time of the complaint. The current and failure mileages were approximately 29,300.
And another issue the batteries died fast and i had to pay for a new one.and since they know one needs a car their is nothing to do but to suck it upthis sucks!! warning!!
Vehicle experienced an uncommanded acceleration. We were approaching the exit from the dental school parking and had to slow for another car waiting to turn.when the brake was applied the vehicle suddenly went into full acceleration causing us toswipe the waiting car and forcing extreme evasive action.situation was witnessed by traffic officer directing traffic. Vehicle was taken to body shop where it was investigated by the manufacturer's representative. No fault was found.vehicle was traded in and is in dealers possession - for potential resale. There is no doubt that there was a fault because there was clearly no contact with the accelerator during the event. We refused to drive the car again!
My wifewas pulling into a parking spot in front of a bagel shop and the car just lost control accelerating , not stopping until it crashed into a pillar. Causing extreme damage to the car.
I have been complaining since november 2012 to the toyota dealership about when driving vehicle feels like accelerator pedal gets stuck and vehicle keeps accelerating without foot on pedal. Every time i took it the gave me the run around about dirty gas line and charge for service not really needed. In february car broke town because of system throttle was replaced and still had same acceleration after 3 weeks from repaired. Was driving home with my 2 month son after dropping my wife at work and my car started to get acceleration pedal problem and vehicle lost control and crash into 2 parked vehicle. Son was ok i was bruised with black and blue around seatbelt area and pelvis and just left knee pain for now. Went to hospital from scene and car was totaled. Would have never had problem if dealership listen and didn't brush my car to side and fix problem car had warranty.
On 1-30-10 i took my car for its first "free" lube etc.and i mentioned a "surge" when accelerating and also an intermittent clunk sound when braking.they found no problem.on 1-30-10 i was driving into my garage slowly to reach a cone i have placed to "stop".about a foot from the cone the accelerator surged into the cone, and a cabinet and table behind the cone were damaged, plus $4653.76 damage to my car.
I was traveling less than 30 mph and stopped at a stoplight. The moment the light turned green, my car stalled. The engine light and battery light went on. After i restarted, it drove all right for another 10 minutes. It stalled out again at another stoplight. Scared to go on the highway, i pulled into a hotel parking lot. The car made jerky vibrations and would go no faster than 10 mph regardless of the pressure on the gas pedal. I took it to the toyota dealership, and they said the electronic control module was bad. It was still under warranty, and i was not charged for the replacement (thankfully!).
Defective engine control module in the electronic throttle control system.as a result, the engine speed did not increase when the accelerator pedal was depressed when the traffic light turn green.low speed driving (less than 20 mph) was used to remove vehicle from road.the car was towed to the dealer and the computer control module was replaced.
Was pulling into a parking place to go shopping around 1 pm. It was clear and sunny at the time of accident.there was a speed bump right before the parking spot so the car was going slow and as i pulled into the parking the spot the car suddenly accelerated causing us to hit a brick wall. I was turning left into the parking spot.car was damaged to the front end and the wall to the strip center.my mom was 89 years old was shaken up and checked out in the hospital.thankfully she was ok.my husband came to check the car and it was drivable so he took it to fred hass toyota in spring, texas. They told us it could be up to 2 weeks before they show up to check the car. He called toyota and filed a complaint. They gave us a claim number and told us they would call us saturday before noon.we never received a phone call and i hope they will take care of our claim.i will not be driving this car again. We are the only owners and bought it brand new with all of the service done including any recalls at fred hass toyota.
On november 22, 2010 i was pulling into a parking space between two parked cars on the roof of a parking garage. The space was straight ahead of me and as i started to pull in and applied the brake, my 2008 toyota corolla accelerated to top speed causing me to crash into the concrete wall approximately 18.5 feet in front of me. The car jumped the concrete parking block and hit the 3ft. Concrete wall. My air bag deployed and the seat belt extended to its limit but did not retract. I was bruised and sore from the impact. The estimate to repair my car is in excess of $7,500. I called my dealer and was told that there are no acceleration problems with the 2008 corollas (contrary to what i see on the website) but they will look at it if i bring it in after it is fixed. It was obvious the car was accelerating on its own and i had no control. It was a very scary experience and i don't think i will be comfortable driving my car again.
My vehicle accelerated and i hit the vehicle ahead of me despite braking as hard as i could

The consumer stated neither the floor mat nor the gas pedal caused the problem. The consumer believed there was an electronic issue with the vehicle. This is an update to complaint # 10314227i have had two more sua's.one was in may when i was parked at a fast food restaurant on a slight upward slant.the car was slightly warm.it was a dry, cool day.when i shifted into reverse and began to roll backward, i put my foot on the brake to pause to look for traffic.then the motor began to race as if someone had floored the accelerator and was holding it there.as my foot remained on the brake, which fortunately held, i looked around to see if anyone was witnessing the event so i would have someone to back me up, but no one was near.it stopped racing after a few seconds, then abruptly starting racing again for a few seconds.all this time i was in reverse and had my foot on the brake.then it suddenly stopped.i put it into park for a while to see what it was going to do, but when nothing happened i went into reverse again and the engine did not race. The second occurrence was in the first part of june when i had just gone about 1/8 of a mile and the car was still cold.it was a warm, dry day.i was sitting at a light waiting to get on the beltline when i heard what sounded like a motorcycle nearby racing its engine.my radio was on playing music.iheard it for a few seconds and then it stopped.i looked around for the motorcycle.then it started again.by this time i realized that it was my engine that was racing.by the time i cut the radio off, it had again stopped.so this was the second time the sua happened when the engine was relatively cold and with two short episodes of the racing engine.idid not think to look at the tachometer.it was too quick.again, my foot never left the brake.when the light changed i drove on through the traffic without further incident.please reference this complaint number to my other complaint.thank you.

From the day of purchase, the gas pedal was way too hard to press.it is similar to the tension of a clutch pedal.the regional/district toyota service manager and the service reps at the at kearny mesa toyota in san diego stated the it was normal and that all of the corollas were the same.however, when san diego mossy toyota service personnel were asked about this, they stated on 8 or 9 jan 09 that there had been numerous complaints about the gas pedal having too much tension and that there probably would be a recall on it in the future.while this may not cause a major accident, i am sure that someone will try to accelerate slowly, and because of the tension, they will lunge forward and strike another vehicle.the pedal requires a constant awareness to avoid lunging.it is even more difficult to take off on an incline smoothly.

2008 corolla accelerates on it's own approximately once a week since purchasing the vehicle 10/2008.always on highway, it feels like when the cruise resumes, the way the car just picks up speed as something is pushing it, but the cruise is not on.it does slow down when i take my foot off the gas pedal, so it doesn't feel like a pedal sticking.since recalls of other vehicles i was told by the dealer i have my car serviced by that it is something electronically and is normal.i have asked everyone i know if their cars do this, no one has ever experienced this, even someone whose car has been recalled for the so called gas pedal sticking.i'm getting very scared to drive my car as i drive 80 miles round trip for work.also, my brakes make this loud clunk sound 1/2 the time they are applied.had them checked about a yr ago and they also said this is normal.again no one i have talked to has this problem.

I have a 2008 toyota corolla and the floor mat has gotten stuck under the gas pedal, similar to the situations leading up to the recall on the 2009-2010 corollas. Over the course of a few days of driving, the floor mat will unhook from the hook in the floorboard and slowly get jumbled under the gas pedal as i move my feet by getting in and out of the car.i will put it back on the hook and it gets jumbled again.
Cruise control engaged while off.i typically use cruise control every day.when i attempted to use it on 7/27, the indicator light showed "on" but it would not engage when i tried to set the vehicle speed.i turned the cruise off and retried - again the control failed to engage.after 4 attempts i gave up and left the control off.a few minutes later the car accelerated on its own (on a slight uphill incline), hard enough to drop from 4th to 2nd gear, as if the cruise control engaged. I hit the brakes and the acceleration stopped.operation then seemed normal. After a few minutes of thought, i decided to (cautiously) check the cruise control again. It engaged and operated properly.after checking though, i turned it off.later that day i took the car to a toyota dealership.the service department scanned the electronics, but found no errors.

The contact owns a 2008 toyota corolla. While driving approximately 2 mph, the contact stated that the vehicle accelerated to 15 mph without warning.

On january 31, 2009 at about 3:00 p.m. My car was parked in the driveway in the country - my brother, sister and i were standing 10 ft away from my car when the window exploded.the window was shattered and fell to the inside and outside of the car.no explained reason for this to happen.we were standing there doing nothing but talking and nobody else was around. There was no other damage to the car except the shattered window.from searching on the internet this unexplained window explosion has been happening to car windows. The temperature at the time was 65-68 degrees. I will pay to have the window replaced. Toyota will not acknowledge this is happening to corollas.
This is the 2nd time the right front seat passenger window has broken. The break is in the glass due to a design defect in how the power window lift track attaches to the glass. The window is designed with tabs that fit into the lift mechanism. Each time the window breaks, it is the tab that is snapping off on one side of the window. This causes the window to not be operational. If you attempt to lower the window, since it's not supported fully by the track, it will angle out of the vehicle and if you continue to operate the open function it would snap the window.toyota reimbursed me for the 1st occurrence and they installed a new window. Now it's happened a 2nd time. It would be a safety issue for anyone needing to escape the vehicle in an emergency if the window can not be rolled down.the window has not yet been replaced.the vehicle was parked and the outside temperature was over 45 degrees when the failure occurred the 2nd time.
The contact owns a 2008 toyota corolla. The contact stated that there was water in the vehicle on the driver rear side. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer in 2008 where a broken seal in the rear windshield was replaced under warranty. The failure occurred again. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer who stated that she would have to pay for a diagnostic test. The contact called the manufacturer who referred her to the dealer. The failure mileage was 6,678 and the current mileage was 14,554.
The window rollup mechanism on my 2008 toyota corolla does not have any sort of clutch, so they will cut off one's finger (or anything else!) if caught between the glass and the door frame. I almost managed to sever my finger yesterday.
The contact owns a 2008 toyota corolla.the contact stated that the view through the windshield (ap techno glass dot 376 m314 as1) is distorted and wavy.the dealer stated that the laminate caused the failure.as of march 17, 2008, the dealer had not repaired the vehicle.they stated that all of the windshields for this year make and model are manufacturer's this way.an auto glass owner inspected the vehicle and stated that the windshield is distorted cloudy and unclear.the failure mileage was 300 and current mileage was 7,700.updated 04/16/08.*lj
My 2008 toyota has a distorted unclear and wavy windshield. It is unsafe.the selling and the servicing dealers must abide by the field service technician who said that it is not a defect because the other new cars on the lot also had wavy windshields. They showed me other cars with distorted windshields right on the lot.they said because they are all distorted, that is not a defect. I disagree.i find it difficult to see clearly out of certain parts of the windshield .it is unsafe. The windshield marking is toyota lamisafeap tech m314 as1 dot376.toyota will not take this further once the field tech rules.
The contact owns a 2008 toyota corolla.while driving 40 mph, he heard a winding sound coming from the front of the vehicle.the dealer replaced the tires; however, the failure continued to occur.approximately four weeks later while driving 65 mph, the contact heard a winding sound.the dealer stated that the wheels caused the inner walls of the tires to disintegrate.in addition, they stated that the failure would be continuous because the tires and wheels were aftermarket and they refused to repair as part of the warranty.the failure mileage was 250 and current mileage was 3,828.
Purchase a set of pirelli p4 tires dot xl 886a 3017 195/65r15 six months agoand kept going back to fix the tire. It kept loosing air and going flat. So after the six months past i had a blow out of the same tire that was going flat. And it almost kill me.
I have a 05 and 08 toyotacorolla. Both have lost all hub caps. I see corollas all over with multiple hubs missing. This is definitely a defect. Believe me they are everywhere missing hubs. These hubs are flying off for no good reason as we are driving down the road. I had one almost hit a person on the side of the road. If it hasn't happened, it will. Be warned. Toyota really needs to take care of this. I am a structural engineer and know when a piece of equipment is defective.
The contact owns a 2008 toyota corolla.while driving 25 mph, the front driver's side tire and rim completely separated from the vehicle.the driver lost control of the vehicle and it spun out of control.the rim was made of aluminum alloy and one of the spokes failed, which caused a chain reaction with the rest of the spokes.as a result, the tire collapsed.the vehicle was towed to the dealer, but they stated that they did not want to be responsible without even looking at the vehicle.the vehicle has not yet been repaired.the contact believes that the repair should be the manufacturer's responsibility and that a recall should be issued.the vin was unknown.the current and failure mileages were 22,695.
