1998 mode toyoto corola premetue airbag harness failure, the wornig light came on.
Air bag warning kept flashing that the air bags needed to be serviced.we took car to dealer, it was not under warranty, dealer said we would have to "repair it ourselves" if we could find a console that would repair it and he thought there was only one in the united states for approximately $2000.we wrote to toyota who eventually wrote back to us stating that toyota would not repair this car and had no intention of recalling this car due to this issue and we would have to repair this car ourselves at the dealer location.now we see in the news that toyota is recalling 1.3 million other cars for what appears to be the same issue--the control of the air bags.dealer told us he did not know how this would affect if the air bags would go off in an accident or not in the future or any other time.the console constantly shows that a door is open and that the air bag needs to be serviced and there is nothing we can do about it except to hope it will react properly.
1998 toyota corolla le, air bag light comes on and starts blinking as soon as i start the vehicle.this is the second time the air bag light has come on. First time, there were air bag light and seat belt light on in aug 2005. I took the car to toyota dealer. He replaced the seat belt(cost was $350). That fixed the air bag light and seat belt light on problem.today(sept 30, 2005), the air bag light has again come on and keep blinking while the engine is on. I believe it's a manufacturing defect with the 1998 toyota corolla. Please investigate the matter.
When moving air bagindication lightwould flash intermittently.dealer has been contacted. Please provide furthre information.
The air bag light keeps lighting up, and consumer does not know the reason.problem has resumed after repair.dealer has been contacted.
Airbag and seatbelt lights come on intermittently, in july of 1999 the front and right seatbelt assembly was replaced.
Air bag light illuminates intermittently dealer unable to remedy problem after several repair attempts (attorney for consumer).nlm
Airbag light is flashing, vehicle has not been examined by dealer.
Dt*: the contact stated without incident, the airbag light illuminated on and off.the dealership determined the connections were loose.the connections were tightened and the code was reset.the consumer was told the air bag would probably not deploy if the light was flashing. Updated 11/21/06.
Takata airbag recallmy 1998 toyota corolla is listed as one of the cars effected by the takata airbag recall. Today i noted a blinking light on my dash board for the airbag. Please advise.
I own a 1998 toyota corolla. In august 2004, the airbag went defective. An authorized toyota dealership in nj ordered a replacement central airbag assembly and the airbag was replaced on sep 1, 2004. However after a few months, the same airbag problem reoccured and i took it to the dealership. After many attempts to identify the problem, the dealership finally concluded that the entire airbag circuitry was defective.since they quoted me an exhorbitant price, i took the car to another authorized toyota dealership.this second dealership after a few attempts, identified that the same central airbag assembly that was replaced in sep 1, 2004 was defective. They ordered a second replacement and fitted my car with the new part. This happened in nov 2006. However 2 months after the airbag replacement,in feb 2007 the same airbag problem reoccured for a 3rd time. I contacted toyota motor sales usa, inc at 1901 south western avenue - wc 10,torrance, ca 90501 to explain the problem with my car. I sent them all the supporting documentation. However inspite of explaining the threat to my life caused by the defective airbag, toyota has not come forward to address the problem.i have spent close to $1500 on the problem already over the course of 3 years. Even though the car is a 1998 make, the airbags were replaced in sep 2004 and nov 2006 and are still under warranty. I request you to instruct toyota to repair the airbag at no extra cost to me.toyota's reference number for my case is 200706250076.
Air bag light failed.
This is referencing a previously filed complaint, #10118167. Dealeroffered to make a goodwill repair at its his cost because there was a safety issue involved, wiring harness for airbag system. I am pleasantly surprised, and want to make sure dealer gets credit for doing this!
Air bag light came on in august of 2004 for no apparent reason (car has no history of accidents).took it to the dealer where it was purchased (in the states- we now live in canada), air bags not covered under the purchase warranty.dealer split the cost of replacing the left side air bag out of good will (we paid $418.25).light continued to come on repeatedly after fix.dealer replaced computer component, adjusted harness, repeatedly tried to fix wiring.it is now june of 2006 and the light is still coming on- we have just replaced the right side air bag (at the cost to toyota- we paid for labor), and light is still coming on.dealer has informed me that air bags will not function in the event of an accident when the light is on.this is concerning because we bought the car for the safety of the air bags and we are worried of being injured in a crash.dealer is currently in contact with toyota regarding replacing computer components again.we are going on 2 years of having the same problem!an estimated $5000 has been put into fixing the vehicle, including labor for our 14+ visits to the dealer.the vehicle is considered unsafe and defective and we are unable to sell it.
Air bag light continually flashing. Dealer says i need a wire harness replacement. Without it the air bags are inoperable. Toyota has had enough complaints about this on 1998 to 2000 model corolla that it issued a technical service bulletin for the problem. Dealer indicated that essentially this was a defective part. Despite this, toyota stated it was coveredonly under 3 years, 36,000 mile warranty. After that, they won't cover it by warranty. My warranty has expired.
Consumerwas in an accident, hit by another car whilegoing about 55mph, driver's side air bag did not deploy, and driverwas injured.
Multiple air bag sensor replacements.
While driving and with no warning air bag light came on.air bag could be inoperative in the event of an accident. Dealer notified.
Air bag light will come onunexpectedly on dashboard.this has happened three times.
Airbag light was flashing. Tookvehicle to the body shop, and was told thatairbags won't deploy in an impact. Thiswas due to an electrical circuit being agitated when driver's seat was moved back and forth.
1998 toyota corolla air bag indicator light blinked continuously after repaired. Upon inspection mechanic determined that the airbag harness was faulty and needed to be replaced.
This vehicle hit another vehicle at 30 mph.none of the four air bags deployed.an occupant of the vehicle sustained injuries to his chest and ribs.toyota was contacted. Vehicle was totaled. *nlm
Air bag light stays on.when i looked up any recalls on this year of toyota, there were alot of complaints and no fixes. I think toyota should fix this safety problem with the air bags, it is a big deal not feelig safe on the road. The light came on when we were driving. We tried to reset it but has no effect. There are a lot of complaints on the 1998 toyota corolla.this is not a coincidence, it is a safety hazzard that needs to be addressed by the manufacuturer. Toyota needs to step up and fix the problem, it is there fault. Any help would be appreciated.
The vehicle was involved in a head on collision at 30-35 mph, the air bags failed to deploy on impact resulting in minor injuries. Nlm
At this approximate date, i began getting a warning light re. My air bags.my dealer said i would have to replace the faulty steering wheel air bag assembly costing me between $1000-1500 or more to replace it.now, other corollas are being recalled but mine is not being recalled.it appears that my car has had the same problem for an even longer period of time than those that are being recalled.i have not yet been able to afford to have it repaired.i recently read in the news that these problems began in 1998, the year i purchased my car.my car has just now turned 100,000 miles and i feel that i should be included in the ongoing recall that includes other toyota owners.i believe that it is not only arbitrary but dangerous for me for you to exclude me from this recall.i hereby request that you include my car in this recall.thank you.
The airbag indicator light on our 1998 toyota corolla blinks continually. Computer analysis indicates the cause to be a faulty airbag harness. Correction of the problem requires replacement of the harness -- a $500 expense. Toyota dealership indicates that this is a commonly seen problem in this model year. If the airbag harness fails, the airbag might not deploy or might not deploy effectively in the event of an accident. Such a problem therefore represents a broader safety issue for all owners of these vehicles.
Defective airbag sensor is causing the airbag light to blink on and off, causing a potential safety hazard.dealer has tightened a loose screwthat holds sensor 6 times, but defect still occurs. Dealer cannot determine defect.
Air bag light continually illuminating. Mjs
Air bag sensor light comes on and stays on allday. This couldresult inair bag deploying permaturely or not deploying at all.dealer contacted.
The vehicle has been involved in two accident in which the air bags failed to deploy.*nlm
The air bag light illuminated and stayed on.
Airbag light started flashing intermittently. Took it to the dealership who charged $ 100 for diagnostics and told me it would cost $500 to fix. I then took it to a self employed mechanic who had worked for toyota. He said it had just become disconnected under the seat.he was able to fix it, it seemed, for a period of time, but the problem keeps coming back. I recently learned online that this is a common problem and huge safety concern. Several who have shelled out the money to toyota to have it "fixed" say the problem has not gone away.i am so angry that toyota hasn't taken responsibility and nhtsa is not holding them accountable.
Vehicle involved in a front end crash.the seat/shoulder belt did not lock and the air bag did not deploy
The air bag and seat belt light illuminated on the dash board, also when a sudden stop was made, the seat belt did not restrain the consumer properly.
Vehicle is equipped with the front and rear side airbags.while making a left turn, another vehicle hitconsumer's vehicle at the passenger rear side at about 15 mph, and the side airbags did not deploy which did not protect the occupant in the accident.please provide further information.
I hit a truck at an intersction at 55. I did not see him. I was alone, and did not see the truck soon enough. My driver's air bag deployed, but did not inflate. The para-medic who reached me first noted that the bag had not inflated. They arrived in 5 minutes. The passenger side did inflate. I suffered severe bruising and broken ribs and hit the steering wheel. My insurance company asked me to report this incident.
Consumerwas involved in 25 mph frontal collision in which the air bag sensor was hit, but driver's side/passengerside air bags did not deploy.please give any further details.

The contact owns a 1998 toyota corolla. The contact was involved in a crash. None of the air bags deployed. The contact sustained a broken rib, fractured bone and whiplash. A police report was filed. The vehicle was destroyed. The manufacturer had not been notified. The current and failure mileages were approximately 167,000.
Both front airbags deployed with a mod-speed front right crash by oncoming vehicle. Drivers front airbag started smoldering emitting an acrid gray smoke (electrical wiring?) from the base of the airbag; stopped smoking when disconnected battery. Passenger airbag broke front windshield when it deployed (had no passenger). Are either of these situations common/normal with airbag deployment?
While driving at 10 mph, another vehicle going about 30 mph hitconsumer's vehicle fromdriver's side door, anddriver's side air bag did not deploy, whichdid not protect the occupant in this crash.the driver side door was damaged due to the accident.

On 11/7/2006 i was involved in an accident where my vehicle 98 toyota corolla rear ended a cement truck. The speed at which my car was traveling was 25-35 mph. The air bags did not deploy, my seat belt did not lock and because of this my chest hit the steering wheel. I visited the urgent care the same day and as a result of the accident i suffered strainedligaments and muscles in my neck and back and a bruise and scrape on my chest. I am still suffering.

My wife's 1998 toyota corolla was hit head on at 70mph by a full size passenger truck and the airbag did not deploy.she has been the sole owner of the vehicle since purchase.prior to the accident, in the course of ownership, the airbag warning light came on periodically.we took the vehicle in several occasions to two different authorized toyota dealerships and both reported that nothing was wrong.this, in spite of the fact that the light continued to flash intermittently.we have retained the diagnostic receipts from the dealerships.i contacted toyota motors, and they have created a case number.toyota motors requested crash photographs to be e-mailed to them, which i have done.no further contact has been received from toyota motors.the vehicle is being held at our insurers salvage yard for further instructions.
Was in an accident going 45mph a truck ran a stop sign and i hit them in the side my son was in the passenger seat and his seat caught when i pressed the brakes but released when we hit the other vehicle airbag deployed but did not inflate. The seatbelt also released when we hit the ditch.he hit his head on the winshield 2 times and is now dealing with post concussion syndrome.i called toyota and they said they found no defects and that the safety system did what it was suppose to.( dot number: tire size: p185/65r14 )

Flashing air bag light - i purchased a 1998 toyota corlooa in july 1998. Begining in sept of 98 i began taking it to the dealership about the flashing air bag light.it was taken on 9/29/98, 8/18/99, 8/15/00, 8/14/01. The last visit the light started blinking before i left the parking lot. I had to pull it back in the bay for them to re-fix it. I was told each time i took it in that the air bags were functional even if the light was flashing. I took the car back last month and was told that there was a parts bulletin issure by toyota back in 1999 that required toyota dealerships to install a wire harness on these wires in order to make them stop blinking. This was never done on my car even though all four times i took it in it was still under warrenty. Now they want to charge me $200.00 to do this.i was also told at this time that the air bags are not functional when the light is flashing.

Starter did not stop cranking, although ignition was turned off and key was removed. Continued cranking until after large amount of black smoke billowed from engine. Eventually stopped before catching fire. Found main engine wire harness melted, charred:; starter charred: battery case melted; battery wire melted.unable to roll window back up, even after reconnecting battery.required tow home.
I noticed smoke coming from my drivers side window switches.
Safety issue!!!the low mileage vehicle has a strange issue that toyota seems unable to repair!139000.0 miles the vehicle will intermittently refuse to start. T the key unlocks but only so far it refuses to engage the starter or allow the auto gear selector to work! strands my wife in the bad parts of town and causes distress and danger because of the stranded vehicle condition! no codes generated and twice toyota has had for two days and no fix!corporation has case or incident report open but not fixed. So far ignition replaced but was told that the following could be issue?1. Ignition key cylinder 2. Ignition electrical switch and or relay, 3. Transmission interlock switch, 4. Gear shift lever button? gear shift linkage adjustment to ensure car is in park properly for interlock switch to work.each time it costs over $200.00 and a new $200.00 or more worth of parts! would this not be a safety recall issue with gearshift neutral interlock or something?my alternative is to keep driving a gas hog suv that is at least somewhat reliable? so much for saving fuel or the environment if a car is not reliable or according to toyota fixable without throwing cash at mechanics or don't know how to fix without just guessing at random parts replacements?the vehicle is at rest after driving and is in park with key engaged properly with brake engaged properly to start the ignition process that intermittently engages solutions ... Make a new key?,replace key and cylinder or any number of other things?never a rental or loaner so lojack not an issue, no bluetooth, no gps disabler to my knowledge if one exists it is a criminal act targeting my wife or myself.
1998 toyota corolla. Accelerated on its own.on august 20, 1999, the consumer complained about a rubbing sound in the area of the right rear tire when the brakes were applied early in the mornings. The mechanic could not find anything wrong.the door panels were replaced due to the glue coming through the fabric.the dome light would not come on at times. The consumer suspected there may be an electrical problem.the consumer stated while driving at a speed of 44 mph, the vehicle would accelerate and then decrease in speed.the consumer first noticed the problem when the air conditioner was on.updated 05/26/10.

The engine consumes oil at an alarming rate since i purchased the car 15 years ago.told a toyota shop foreman me about this problem and he told me that toyota doesn't want to admit any fault.he said they made the pistons too small and the rings too big.he is a close friend who knows i take care of my cars extremely well. He said to just keep nursing the car like i do.and for 15 years i have been nursing my car every week i check the oil.if it is a slight bit low i will add oil to the full line.this is the only way to make the car last, if i let it go and didn't check the oil, there would be nothing left in the crankcase, the engine would probably seize up because of lack of oil.i noticed this condition with the engine when i bought the car 15 years ago used.the car was a year and half old.i called toyota about it back then in the year of 2000 and they denied any problem or recall like they still do today.since then,i have confronted other toyota corolla owners with the same year as mine give a take a year or two and they have all stated that yes there oil was extremely low also.one stranger i walked up to in the parking lot said to me "yes, i add oil to it every week."so to sum things up.i feel that toyota should compensate owners like me who have faithfully added oil to the engine every week for the past 15 years that i have owned that car.toyota should be sued for not being honest about their oil burning engines for the 1998 to 2002 corolla model year.there is no oil leaking under the car at all and all of the gaskets on the engine are dry with no leaks.the interior of the tailpipe has alot of black soot indicating oil consumption within the engine.
This complaint is about a gps device that attaches to the car through the obdii port. Manufacturered by agnik corporation sold under the brand name vyncs. The device, when installed, has caused intermittent stalling of the vehicle at low speed such approaching a stop or idling in gear at a stop. This was realized to be caused by the device after about 1 week of experiencing intermittent stalling. When the device was removed from the car, the stalling issue dissapeared. I have retained the device for submission to the nhtsa for testing. When i brought this issue to the manufacturer attention they ceased communication with me, disabled the gps service, and closed my account, whereby i could no longer extract any historical communications from them. Additional attempts to contact them through [email protected] have been unanswered. Agnik does not publish an address or phone number.
My car '98 corolla that has been regularly maintained as per manufacturers recommendations blew its engine while driving on the highway. I was in the fast lane and had to dangerously veer the vehicle to the shoulder. The car had done only 50,000 miles. The engine breakdown was caused by sludging and excessive engine wear and tear that developed in the car when it had done just 36,000 miles. This was brought to my attention by suburban toyota of troy, mi. I have been regular with oil change and preventive maintenance and have receipts to prove that and this is a cleary a case of manufacturing fault of the car. I finally paid $4500 for full engine replacement and sent the receipts and maintenance records to toyota. Toyota has refused to reimburse this amount.
Engine is leaking coolant/ oil. No lights illuminated on the dashboard as a warning. Problem was diagnosed after routine maintenance check. Dealer notified. Please provide more information.
Car in for brake work at local dealer recently. (had previously had 90,000 mile service there in dec 2003, nothing noted.) at time of brake work, told that top engine noise (ticking/rattle) needed to be checked, $600 just to look inside and see what problem was. Took to dealer where i purchased car for a second opinion. They told me i needed a replacement engine. I'm only at 98,000 miles, and have followed manufacturer's service recommendations/changed oil regularly on schedule. I shouldn't need a new engine, this is caused by a design flaw. Dealer suggested that i hadn't changed the oil on time. Rod or piston that was about to go is thought to be the problem. My brother is still driving a 1985 camry! mom has a 91 camry still in good condition, high mileage. Didn't expect to have a toyota give out so early. Will be asking for reimbursement from toyota. Replacement engine totaled $2736.88 including labor, for a used engine with 36,000 miles. No documentation verifying engine mileage except on bill, so odometer still says 98,000 miles.

Of the eleven (11) vehicles that i have owned thus far, at least eight (8) has been toyota, one a ford, and two were nissan's. All the toyota's gave me excellent service, except the last. This was a 1998 toyota corolla ce that was regularly serviced and well taken care of. So much so, that we purchased a smart choice warranty for twelve hundred dollars ($1200) to give us an added piece of mind. This vehicle was puirchased for my college going daughter, based on the premise that this brand is based on reliabilty, economy and durability. These are well known toyotra attributes.on 11/28/2003 the oil light kept coming on at intervals. I did my own diagonistics as a responsible toyota owner and found that everything was normal. I then left work to take the car for a second opinion and was told after hours of examination that the oil pump needed replacing. I couldn't believe this as the vehicle had regular services. At this i contacted smart choice, only to learn that they had filed for bankruptcy. This was a major setback for me. The estimated repair costs at this stage was approximately $530.00. Upon further examination by my mechanic, i was told that this engine had large deposits of sludge and that it had a short lifespan. Based on this i was advised that the engine neededa replacement. It is against this background that i lodge this legitimate complaint and request an official from the manufacturer to contact me at the soonest.
Towed to nearest dealer who contacted toyota...although still under warranty dealer and toyota refuses to repair.said that car was abused, but oil changes were made and documented.cam seized.
Vehicle was leaking oil.dealership found the plate for the timing gear cover was leaking.dealership replaced gasket and timing chain tensioner.while driving 71 miles later, the cam gear pin sheared off, the vehicle died out and internal damage occurred.dealership not willing to take responsibility.
The engine of a 1998 toyota corolla died while driving on the highway.the germain toyota of columbus examined the car and identified the timing chain tensioner failure as the cause of the engine damage.replacement engine is needed.toyota refuses to pay for the repair because they consider this wear an tear and also because the failure happened after warranty has expired.this type of wear an tear is not common on a 1998 toyota with 82000 miles.furthermore, toyota's owner's manual supplement does not mention any maintenance requirement on timing chain tensioner.the only reference is in page 45, 90,000 miles maintenance log under "additional maintenance items for special operating conditions", which indicates 'replacing timing belt except for corolla'.the manual specifies maintenance requirements for up to 120,000 miles.a consumer should not be held responsible for wear & tear of a component when the manufacturer does not specify the need for maintenance.i believe this failure is caused by a manufacturing defect or a design deficiency.paid 2375 for a used replacement engine. *la
Consumer was driving at 55 mph andsuddenly the engine made a noise.then, vehicle slowed, and the serpentine belt came off. Consumer had a mechanic examine the vehicle, and it was discovered the bolt connecting the serpentine belt to the engine broke.the vehicle was towed to the dealer and the same defect was found.
Noticed an odor/fumes inside & outside of vehicle when its started or not. Most heavy when vehicle is started. Took to dealer at least 7 different times & problem has not resolved.
Check engine light illuminated prompting me to have the problem checked.the indication was an error message po441:purge flow fault.the local toyota dealer diagnosed a charcoal canister failure which needs to be replaced.there are significant and consistent complaints by toyota owners regarding emissions control systems failures in the 1998 corolla in addition to a lawsuit in which tmc settled with the epa covering only certain models.it seems that a recall should have been issued on all 1998 models as this problem is very prevalent.
Charcoal canister assembly failed.
Check engine light on. Emissions control systems error. Likely charcoal canister problem.
Engine light illuminated. Had it checked out to find that the charcoal canister failed - something my mechanic told me he sees all the time in these toyotas.
Charcoal canister assembly and vacuum switching valve failed. Gas cap also failed.

Headlamps on 1998 toyota corolla have fogged completely over. The fogging is on the external lens surface, not due to moisture on the inside of the headlamp assembly. Attempts to clean the surface ar temporary, with the fogging returning after a few days. The fogged lenses are a hazard as the light is greatly diminished over a clear lens.

When i applied the brake during a raining day, my car suddenly went to the side. This kind of scenario happened twice before ( on local streets while driving around 20 miles per hour). I felt that this car's brake system was different from that of the other cars i owned before. Shouldn't the anti-brake system help the car stay straight on the road? on 09-20-2002, it was raining,i drove this car on the highway at the speed around 50 miles per hour, on the first left lane. After i applied the brake in order to reduce the speed further, my car went to the right side, and then left side, and then crashed to the middle concrete.*ph**dimsii ivoq entry posted after 12/12/02 cut over to artemis**768012
When traveling at low speeds on wet pavement, automobile goes into a skid when brakes are applied.brakes completely failed on 10-13-99 at 11,802- low brake fluid level light came on. Reported loud noises from the brakes to th dealer at 5000 miles ( brake light came on then, as well). New brakes are needed now, at 11,802 miles.note too that automoble sways at highway speeds( i.e., high speed and wind combination).and, braking at high speeds (55 miles per hour) cause the car to pull.
Just minutes after driving in heavy dallas traffic, stopped at a grocery store and was pulling into an angled parking space with my foot on the brake and almost stopped, when car surged forward (repeat-with my foot on brake).the brake pedal went completely to the floor and would not stop vehicle.i hit the vehicle parked in front of me; very little damage as my car was almost stopped when it surged forward and brake failed.this was the second time this had happened.the first time was only a couple of months after i bought the car new.the same thing happened as i was pulling into my car port.the brake went to the floor and car surged forward.that time i couldn't believe what had happened and just thought my foot must have slipped.this time, i had two other people in the car and we all witnessed the surge and the brake pedal on the floor of the car (useless).as soon as the vehicle has stopped (by hitting something each time), the brake goes back to its usual position.i took the car to classic toyota here in tyler the next day when i drove back here.they said they inspected it and could find nothing wrong.i was very upset and it was annotated on the job ticket.i contacted my insurance company and told them what had happened and left my name and phone number with the driver of the car i hit in the grocery store lot.if this had happened just minutes before as i stopped for the numerous red lights in dallas, my car would have been propelled out into the intersection and would have been hit.as far as i am concerned, this is a very dangerous problem, and the car is a potential death trap for me and my passengers or the vehicle i might hit because of the brake failure and surge problem.there was a two-year lapse between the two incidents, which is why the dealer couldn't test drive the vehicle and find the problem.they suggested my foot had slipped off the brake and hit the accelerator.this absolutely was not what happened.
Whilemaking a normal stop the pedal went to the floor, causing, extended stopping distance.dealerunable to determine the cause . Please provide any further details.

At the time of the incident, i had pressed the accelerator as far as the floor. Since that time, i have been more restrained with pressing the accelerator pedal.
In light of the recent toyota recalls regarding sticking gas pedals, i felt i should report that this happened to me with my 1998 toyota corolla about four years ago. The pedal stuck three different times and i discovered that braking did nothing. However, i was able to get it to release all three times by pumping the gas pedal repeatedly!when i took my car to the toyota dealership, they refused to consider my complaint seriously and said it must be driver error as it could not possibly be their vehicle. At the time, i asked them to check directly with the manufacturer regarding what was potentially a very serious problem, and was simply blown off and treated like i was nuts. I am reporting this to you now, because in light of my experience, i feel that this problem has been going on a lot longer than anyonerealizes. I have been a toyota customer since 1983 but i feel like i will never buy another one. I think toyota has been sweeping this one under the rug for a long time and they should be held accountable. I am sure there are a lot more older models out there like mine.
When going up on an incline, with the speed control activated, vehicle down shifts and accelerated suddenly. Dealer has inspectedvehicle.
I was leaving an automatic car wash.car was in neutral.when i put car in gear, it took off on it's own.i tried to brake but was unable to stop the car.my car went through a fence and hit a small tree.the car was towed away and later was totaled.when the mechanic tried to start the car, itimmediately went upto 2500 rpmsmr
My 1998 toyota corolla will not always shut down the throttle on cruise control byhitting the brake or the cruise control off button.it will push you straight through a stop sign. I ended up taking the fuse out of the cruise control . Fixed the problem but i no longer have cruise. I tried to tell toyota this but they make it next to impossible to email them to report this symptom. I think they do not want to know.
Onaugust 26, 1999 outer tie rod needed replacement, and left cam bolt alsoneeded replacment.dealer notified.
While inclining at 40-50 mph and applyingaccelerator pedal to change lanes, suddenlyvehicle commence to accelerate and run away. Was able to shift gear in netural, and pull off to the side ofroad, dealer/ manufacturer were not notified at this time. Please feel free to provide any further details.
The contact owns a 1998 toyota corolla. While driving various speeds, the accelerator pedal seized. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the accelerator pedal needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vin and failure mileage were unknown.
When the vehicle goes 45mph it accelerates and decelerates on its own.the dealer has been notified.
When ever i put my cruise control on, the car will stay at the speed that i set it at for just a short while.it then starts to speed up by 2 mph and now im cruising at what i set it at +2, then it will speed up again by 2 mph, and then im cruising at what i set it at + 4 mph.i had this happen to me once where the cruise control raised my speed by 8 mph once with out me trying to raise my own speed.i believe this could be a safety issue in the winter time snow and ice, also if i didn't pay attention to the speed in which i was traveling i could of gotten a spending ticket - (blame it on the cruise control) yeah right.
I bought a 1998 toyota corolla le in july.i found that the cruise control would downshift the automatic transmission nicely when climbing slight hills at highway speed.unfortunately, it will not shift back up to fourth gear for a long period of time even going downhill.i checked out the nhtsa site and founda tsb for the problem.i contacted toyota thinking they would repair this admitted defectbut they repeatedly refused.this is a safety issue as it is very distracting to have to disengage the cruise control, and then re-engage it every time this happens.there are a number of hills in my daily commute.this should be a recall not a tsb.*la

Soon after purchasing my used 1998 toyota corolla in 2001 i had to replace the driver's side mirror...the mirror would not stay in position inside the "mirror-holder".i would position it, and a week later it would be at the wrong angle. This happened again and again.now, three years later, the same thing is happening to the passenger's side mirror.i position it and a week later it is starting to tilt down.unfortunately this time the mirror isn't covered under a warranty so i just keep adjusting it.
