After toyota dealer replaced the airbag, the car audio stopped functioningproperly. When i called the toyota dealer, they said they won't do anything for me and hang up on the phone. My email to toyota company was not returned.
Last may 5 melody toyota san bruno told me they have to do a recall on the front passenger airbag inflator. And it was fine for 3 months. Then on aug. 9 when i was taking my cousin to the airport (sfo) the srs warning light just came on all the way straight home. And i drove back to melody toyota last tuesday since they told me they can't attend to me last monday because technician shortage. After they made the diagnosis on my car they said there's a short circuit on my airbag spiral cable clock spring w/c is located inside the steering wheel. They said if this spiral cable is defective all the airbags in my car is disabled and will not deploy if i hit another car or a tree w/c is really life threatening. My question is why do i have to pay $550.00 to get that spiral cable replaced. And on the other hand my car doesn't have any problem not until when they replace that front passenger airbag inflator last may 5. They even ask me if i had an accident recently.i think they should know that since they've been doing all the services on my car for 6 years. Or is there any recall on this spiral cable? i hope you give me an answer to this question. Also please this complaint will be anonymous for now. Thank you
Some toyota matrix's have a recall on the spiral cable, not mine. It has been out for 3 years, i can't get toyota to even research my claim as they state that my car doesn't fit their recall profile.
The contact owns a 2003 toyota corolla matrix. The contact received an interim notification for nhtsa campaign number: 15v043000 (air bags) in march of 2015; however, the parts needed to do the repair were still not available. The contact felt the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure.updated 7/14/15updated 07/21/15
Roll over and air bags didn't deploy.
While stopped at a red light, the driver side airbag in my 2003 toyota matrix deployed striking me in the head/chest area. Stunned and disoriented, i didn't realize what had happened until a good samaritan helped me out of the car.she was telling me to exit the car, however, my seatbelt had retracted and locked with such tension, that i was barely able to reach across and press the release button. After the driver side airbag deployed the passenger airbag deployed as well, causing damage to the windshield.there was one or two subsequent explosions - i am unsure what those noises were. I was able to put the car in park and exit the vehicle. A police officer was nearby and heard the explosion and came over to check on the situation. He tried turning the car off, but the horn was stuck and continued to honk - he then decided to turn the vehicle back on, which stopped the honking of the horn. The car was still able to be driven and an officer drove the car across the street to a local toyota dealership. My car still sits in the lot where toyota has performed inspections, diagnostic tests, downloaded data and compiled a report (of which i have not received a copy of) that has been sent to toyota legal. Ironically, i received a recall in the mail one week after the incident for an srs / ecu recall.
The air bag warning light came on dash and i was told the driver side air bag had to be replaced. I had to pay $1196.69 because it was not under a recall even though i had 3 other recalls which included the passenger air bag inflator, air bag wire harness and the center air bag sensor assembly. So with all the safety recalls on the passenger side air bag system, i do not understand why the driver air bag is not covered on any safety recall? i really think this should be covered under a safety recall since i was told by the rep at the toyota dealer the air bag will not work when this air bag warning light is on.
The recall letter says i'm not just not supposed to have people sit up front until the parts are available to fix the problem. That is not realistic. I need something done sooner please.

I was notified in march that my car had a bad airbag and i would be notified when it would be replaced. I just talked to my dealer and they have no idea when it will get done. That seems un acceptable to me that we have 3/4 of a car til it gets replaced. Shouldn't there be a timetable onrecalls? thank you.
Tanaka recall. I had all recalls done since the first one in 2013. At my 2016 recall toyota mech said recall was done and that all was good and it was safe now. I left lot convinced it was true and i could now allow riders in front seat without threat of injury /death. N0w 2018 discover was not safe to have passenger. That more recalls coming but parts not produced fully in 2016. Airbag was replaced by same defective airbag as taken out, only difference being that it was only out of boxnot safe redesigned type!!why was i not informed that this was the case when i got the last recall installed??now have another notice that the real safe one has finished production and i can have one installed now. Meantime my family including grandchildren have been in serious danger of serious injury or death by riding in the front seat!! contacted various toyota officials but no attempt at explaining problem. In fact passed to "generic: untrained employee who, or course, was totally unprepared to offer advice or any answers concerning safety, problem.tried west coast ceo ? again to end up in same customer service. Cannot enter place time etc since safety negligence occurred over at least 2 years and was there at every place and time i drove a passenger anywhere.

I have owned this car for only a few months. I recived the recall for passenger side airbag. Took to toyota dealership on dixie . I also asked for them to diagnose the srs light being on on the dash. I was told by dealership i needed a new front driver airbag due to a short. I looked back at the matrix recalls . And there is a recall on the steering wheel cable ssue that is related to the airbag and the circuit over hearing that is related to an airbag recall issue. I called the pervious owner and she said she had an accident and none of the airbags deployed.she also took the car to dealership for a recall in 2016 and was told she needed a new front driver airbag. Thiscar should be included in the current recalls for the above issue. This issue has placed my family and myself in an unsafe situation due to the unsafe ,safety equiptment. The srs lights comes on when the car is started and does not go off. This is the reason for the diagnosis. Toyota should stand behind their product and correct the safety equiptment failures.
The contact owns a 2003 toyota corolla matrix. While driving approximately 40 mph, the front driver and passenger air bags deployed inadvertently and fractured the windshield. The contact suffered injuries to the chest, which required medical attention. The contact also stated that the notice for nhtsa campaign number: 15v286000 (air bags) was received in early 2014; however, the dealer stated that the part was not available for repair. The manufacturer was not notified. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. The approximate failure mileage was 200,000.
Has been in for repair since nov 2014 and no sign of getting fixed. Toyota will refuse to provide loaner car after feb 23, 2015 but refused to give me a letter saying my car was safe to drive.today i received a letter saying to keep passengers in the back seat - that this their solution. They still try to deny that humidity is not a proven cause since incidents have occurred out of humid areas. I listened to the hearings and the toyota representative said they don not know the cause but still they are forcing me to begin driving the car again at the end of feb 2015.
2003 toyota corolla. Consumer writes in regards to air bag recall. *ldthe consumer was first advised that the recall repair could not be completed because there was a wire that need to repaired before the air bag could be replaced. A year later the consumer was advised that the air bag had already been deployed. The consumer stated that was not true, the airbags had never deployed. Updated 05/19/2017
There has been a recall on the front passenger airbag inflator module.despite several notices and a federal reminder to have this fixed as a customer, toyota as a company has no remedy as of yet.all paperwork states "any authorized toyota dealer can inspect and, if necessary, replace the airbag inflator module...please contact any authorized toyota dealer dealer to schedule an appointment to have the remedy performed as soon as possible."after making this appointment and leaving my car overnight, i was told there was no remedy available.after calling toyota, they said that at this time the only solution is to not allow a passenger to ride in your car.this defeats the purpose of a car.if you have notated an issue and want to alert the public and have us all take time off to have the issues fixed, then why wasn't there a "fix" in place. It seems as though they can replace the entire airbag inflator module to fix the problem, but they are not wanting to take on that cost, which puts me and my family/friends in danger. This is ultimately frustrating, inconvenient, and dangerous.this is an extremely libelous situation.
I can not get a straight answer from toyota, both my local dealer and the corporate office regarding a passenger air bag recall (front passenger airbag inflator module).it's been almost a full year, and no one can tell me when this repair will be done.the last letter i received (feb. 3, 2015) from toyota, said they are working on states with high humidity first.their solution, is not to drive the vehicle and use public transportation, and rent a vehicle.this is not a solution.i live in massachusetts, and it gets pretty humid during the summer months.i think toyota thinks the longer they wait the fewer recalls they will have to perform as the vehicles are getting older and older.

I continue to receive notices for an airbag recall on a vehicle i haven't owned in two years. Please stop emailing me recall notices. I have attached a receipt i received when i had the car scrapped.

I have my toyota matrix about 5 or 6 years. Had 4 or 5 times recall on the different parts. I don't feel safe any more with this car. How should i trust for another parts are ok. I have a kid with me when i'm driving. They should get the car back and pay for it. I worked so hard to pay for this car. Shame on toyota.
Toyota airbag recall case #[xxx]***2/13/15: had to drive 135 miles with 72 yr old vietnam vet business partner crammed in back seat amongst other cargo during a business trip.***must operate vehicle with passenger in car for business 85% of usage time. Otherwise i cannot run my business!!toyota refuses to provide me with a solution or a rental until solution is available. They want me to put my 72 yr old vietnam vet business partner in back seat with fully loaded cargo rather than help me fix the airbag problem. They absolutely refuse to help me.this is wrong. I cannot operate my vehicle for business without my business partner. Toyota will not provide me with any workaround, nor any solution, in any timely manner. But yet they tell me i cannot operate my vehicle safely as i need to do to continue running my business.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
Dear nhtsa folks,? the safety recall is dated january 27, of this year (2015) .? i have waited five months, so far, for a remedy to this manufacturing defect.? going into the sixth month, we continue to be concerned for our safety each time we drive our matrix.please help, for goodness sake, without further delay!yours,[xxx]indianapolisinformation redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).'
Odometer failure due to toyota building and installing a defective piece of equipment.
This is a very dangerous issue. Car engine randomly shuts off while driving. Check engine light will not go off. I cannot drive car because i cant pass smog either (due to check engine light). I have filed two formal complaints with toyota. Toyota refuses to take responsibility for the manufacturing. Defect. I am expected to pay over $2000 to replace a catalytic converter that they know is defective.(excerpt from one complaint i filed)there was a recall on matrix and corolla: toyota issued a recall for 2005 to 2008 model year corolla's and matrixes, equipped with the 1zz-fe engine and two-wheel drive. The recall notices states that an improperly manufactured engine control module (ecm) can develop a crack in its circuitry, potentially causing the "check engine" light to illuminate, harsh shifting, and stalling and/or failure of the engine to start.i have a 2003 matrix xrs with a 2zz-ge engine with a continuous check engine light, harsh shifting, stalling and random failure of the engine to start.i have had multiple diagnostics and repairs done on the vehicle to pass smog inspection over the past 5 or 6 year and have spent thousands of dollars. The light stays off just long enough to pass the smog test and is then returned to me with the light still on. I have paid a toyota dealer $95 to run diagnostic also. They said the ecm is corrupt and can't be flashed and the cat has to be replaced for over 2k!i would like information from you're quality department as to why toyota will not replace the ecm being replaced on the engines stated in your recall notice and not on my type of engine. Which has the exact same problem as detailed in the recall listed on your site. Toyota stated after both complaints that they cannot help me or fix the problem. I must pay for solution myself. Does someone need to die in a crash before this is addressed?

It's been almost a year since the first time the cil turned on. It stays on for a couple days then stays off for like a month. It has been doing that since 2012. I had my check engine light checked by a tech and he said that he has seen the p0770 code many times for the matrix and corolla. He printed out the tsb (http://www.matrixowners.com/tsb/t-eg020-02.pdf) and advised me to take it to a toyota service center. I took it to carson toyota in ca and they pretty much said the only thing i can do is fix the issue out of my pocket which was almost $1500! he said the issue is the r & r engine control module and if that doesn't do the trick that i have to replace r & r speed sensor. I purchased my car used so it didn't qualify for the manufactures warranty. I personally think that this should qualify as a recall. There is so many report about this issue and so many other toyota customers that are very unhappy. Allot of the consumers are saying they have bought these parts and installed them and the cil is still lighting up. I would really like to resolve this issue. I refuse to pay $1500 to replace the ecm and the speed sensor for it to not fix the problem. Now i have to have my car registered with the requirement of a smog check. And of course that is an automatic fail. This is my second toyota and i don't think there will be a third. Very unhappy customer!
Odometer failure due to toyota building and installing a defective piece of equipment.
Car is rotten in the spare tire area, thought mine was the only one but seen a lot of cars with the same problem. Florida area

Three incidents - 2nd occurred in may 2014, 3rd in august 2014.very large, clean cracks keep appearing in the same spots on the front windshield with no point of contact. They begin from the middle bottom of the windshield where the heat vents start and in a u-shape come out or at the top middle - behind rear view mirror - where heat vents start - like a smiley face to nearly the top of the windshield or a line down direct from middle of window. The first time it happened i was using the heater . The second time and 3rd time it was parked overnight but nothing was stolen, no other damage and nothing to indicate a point of contact such as a rock or sharp tool. Full cracks appear all at once - close to entire height of window and are not gradual. Replaced the windshield first time at my cost and need another replacement immediately as two large cracks are impairing visibility, take up the whole drivers side of the window and concerned for safety with upcoming road trip. Looking for another vehicle to buy as already had 2 other recalls with this vehicle. Need toyota to replace 2nd windshield as this is clearly a manufacturers problem.
