9/11/01: shortly before midnite: fire ignited in our unattached garage, family sleeping, only vehicle in the garage was a 2000 toyota celica (approx 20,000 miles on it). Neighbors woke us up, by that time house was engulfed in flames, we were evacuated. Total loss:nearly $300,000.00 in loss and property damage. We thought our area was being bombed, due to the events which took place that entire day.2 auto investigators came to the home, worked together on the car, 1 from our ins co., the other from toyota. After 9 1/2 hrs of completely overhauling the car, they both determined the car started the fire from a faulty ground wire. Our ins. (homeowners) were like stones amongst boulders against toyota. They spared no expense to hire the top of the top to discredit us and in the end, the judge decided there wasn't enough evidence to take this ordeal to court.it was a joke and our neighbors and even saw the man who sold us the celica was called in for questioning. All agreed, it was the car. No one would hear us. Ins company couldn't pursue. It would have been too costly and toyota had unlimited funds and time to fight this.it was so terrible. My family would never be the same after that. I wanted someone to hear my story, especially since this new occurrence with toyota's recall.maybe someone could look into unexplained fires with their toyota vehicles. May be very interesting and may save a life or two.

We bought a 2000 toyota celica for our 16 year old daughter. The car was used with about 80k miles. The car was in excellent shape, and had not been altered in any way. On january 2nd, our daughter was driving home from work and the car caught fire. She was able to get out of the car and call 911. The car is a total loss, and the fire department stated that it was an electrical fire. The weather that day was clear, but very cold. She stated thatthe only thing on in the car was the heater. We have not had any work done this car except an oil change.i am thankful that my daughter was able to keep her wits enough to remember the manual door locks. My wife and i went to great lengths to buy a safe and reliable car for her, and the carfax stated that there was no negative history on the car. I am very concerned that this car has a defect that could have resulted in injury or death. I have inspected the damage, and it appears that the main fire was centered around the computer and battery area. Thanks, joe phillips

The 2000 toyota celica has a defective belt tensioner mechanism that results in a dead battery and ultimate loss of all electrical starter, etc.i have already replace the tensioner (and battery) twice costing $500.now this has happened for the 3rd time same car.in my opinion this is dangerous since it leads to people being stranded or worse loss of power on the freeway.sunnyside toyota, in north olmsted, ohio says the tensioner "should be replaced every 40 - 50k miles.

Brake were making a grinding noise took the car to service, they stated that nothing with the brake 7-2000. Again in 12-2000. Had the brake fit in 7-10-2001. Same problem in 01-15-2002. That problem is with riverside toyota problem with battery, had to get a new one also a air flow meter was replace.replaced 2 tire in 2000 redlands toyotahas states that i needed more brake repairs , because i have no brakes sytems can not drive the car repairs to fit the brake is $1000 . When ever i ask riverside of toyota to check my brakes.they keep there nothing with my brakes. From day one i been having problem with this car.mr

While driving about 65 mphand getting offhighwayvehicle started vibrating and jumping withou prior warning and stalled.also, consumer had other problems with vehicle.

I was driving down the road in the vehicle i just bought and was going the speed limit and the engine literally broke into pieces and oil went everywhere

I towed my vehicle to newbold toyota on july 28, 2014, and on july 29, i spoke to [xxx], a service advisor and explained why my vehicle was there. He indicated they would diagnose the problem and get back to me. At 3:28 pm [xxx] called me back indicating that the engine was done due to the over-rev which blew the engine. Here is my statement on what happened: on july 28 2014 at about 7 a.m., i was traveling to work on i-255 southbound when my gas pedal sunk to the floor while traveling at 70 mph in fifth gear. The car sped up, so having a manual transmission, i shifted into neutral. I proceeded to raise the pedal with the tip of my shoe, with no success and engine revving, i decided to slam on the brake for a brief second, when the gas pedal sprung right back up. I then placed it in sixth gear and kept going for approximately 8 miles, despite hearing a rattling noise. As i turned off onto my exit, i placed the transmission in neutral and that's when the engine died. At this point i coasted onto the shoulder of the exit ramp.on july 31, 2014 at 2:14 pm, i spoke with the general manager ([xxx] ) about my situation with the vehicle, and he told me to call toyota customer service (1-800-331-4331). I called and spoke with [xxx] who started a case for me. After giving her the above details, as well as additional information she requested, she checked on extended warranties and recalls on my vehicle. She informed me that toyota respectfully declines any assistance. I then asked to speak to her supervisor, which she replied, "that won't help you", and hung up. I feel strongly that this is a safety issue. I could have very easily crashed this vehicle under no fault of my own. I feel like toyota needs to make this right. I feel like they should replace my engine, as well as issuing a recall on this model year before someone gets killed.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

The contact owns a 2000 toyota celica. The contact stated that the engine burned a quart of oil every thousand miles. The manufacturer previously replaced the engine twice. The vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnosis but the cause of the failure was not found. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure and current mileage was 55,000. ...updated 04/25/13updated 05/31/2013

This is a 3rd engine !!!!! when i got this car in 2008 it was already knocking from dealership. Soon rod bearings blew out and entire engine had to be replaced, these engines are very poor design that oil starve to death. After replacing engine they only last ya few years. 2010 second engine same thing started loosing oil not from leaking but from consumption. Shortly after started knocking and right after spun the rod bearing and damaged engine again. These 1zzfe engines have very poor circulation of oil and only will take specific oil products because of very weak oil pump. So on my 3rd engine and guess what ?! knocking !! after all trouble with this i have over paid what this car is worth by a ton with engine replacements because dealership can't find the cause. I am a father and commute 100mi to work and back everyday and these engines are the worst. They oil starve and die. With new oil pump and lucas oil additive you may have hope but if you follow dealership instructions few years later have 4,000$ for new engine ready.

A truck tire went out and locked up my engine of my celica

My 2000 toyota celica has been in the shop 3 times within the last 4 months due to the serpentine belt and tensioner. Both were replaced and within a month the problem has recurred. After researching this on the internet i have found that this is a ongoing problem with the toyotas. I feel there should be a recall on these vehicles to properly fix this issue before it causes serious injuries or fatal accidents. Thank you for you consideration.

I had crankshaft and bearings replaced in september due to failure, which i have seen many other people have similar problem.i was cruising at 55-60 mph on highway in 5th gear when i heard a loud pop, and the engine began to rattle, and then suddenly died.i had vehicle towed to dealership, and had to call dealership to ask about vehicle, i was told it was because i drove the vehicle too hard and that i would have to pay for the repairs.

Engine consumes oil & paint chips very easily (spectra blue)

I was driving in heavy traffic at a speed of 15 to 20 miles per hour when i heard asound as if a chain was dragging on the ground. I then realized that my car had shutdown, i pushed the car off the roadway to the shoulder and opened the hood to see a hole in my engine and broken parts and oil strewn in the engine compartment. The motor failed at 60489 miles for no apparent reason. I called the dealer from where the car was purchased and they were unwilling to service the car. I then found another dealer to take the car in for service after having the car in their shop for four days they call me to come and pick up the car without completing the needed repairs.

Car has 140,000 miles on it, and is burning approximately 1 quart of oil every four days. Black smoke coming from exhaust. Found several other people online with the same car (2000-2002 celica gt 1.8l) with the same problem. Problems were noticed as early as 80,000 miles. No visible oil leaks. Found information online regarding a fix that toyota made to the engine in 2003 from 4 holes in pistons, to 8 holes as well as larger piston grove.

Problems with 2000 toyota celica's engine. *mr the engine had begun to knock and was taken to the nearest toyota dealer.toyota did not agree to pay for the engine because they claim the vehicle was running low of oil.the consumer request compensation for the inconvenience. *sc

Toyota dealer diagnosed an oil consumption problem and smoke bellowing out of the exhaust. They found oil gelling in the valve cover and spark plugs contaminated. We received a printed document from toyota stating repairs needed and sent the car out for repairs.we were able to take pictures of the whole procedure and have receipts/documentation to prove. We replaced everything that toyota recommended. We drove the car and two days later smoke began bellowing out of the exhaust and the spark plugs were becoming sooty. We believe we have the defective 1zz-fed engine that has plagued toyota with oil consumption and sludge issues. We have a toyota warranty that ends july of 2007 and toyota will not warranty the issue.

1. I purchased a 2000 toyota celica gt. 2. About every 1500 miles there's a quart of oil burned off. I've checked myself a few times for any signs of leaks, and had it looked at by a mechanic, neither of us have found any sign at all of oil leaking out. I've done research on it and it is a very common problem with the 1zz engine in the 2000-2002 celica gt and in some cases has cause serious engine problems.3. Checking the oil level constantly and adding oil as needed

The contact owns a 2000 toyota celica.every three months, the vehicle's engine would consume all of the oil.the contact also noticed that while driving at any speed, a knocking sound was heard coming from the engine.the vehicle has not been diagnosed by the dealer.the current mileage was 94,553 and failure mileage was 88,000.

This is for a automatic gts model. When driving at a speed say 40 mph to a redlight stop, the engine rpm gets really unstable and then shortly stalls, meaning have to park the car and restart the engine on an automatic car. Engine light may or may not lit up/ store a code after restarting engine.diagnosis from dealership is no problem most of the time, except recently having a detection of problem with the mass air flow sensor.the sensor was replaced but the same problem remains.the car has been properly maintained throughout, and the stalling occurs throughout the past 7 years consistently.dealer is not willing to look into the problem because stalling occurances couldn't be duplicated.i have tried bringing the vehicle back to dealer for inspection about 6 times, however, there's no resolution.

When driving vehicle would jerk. Engine would become noisyand shaky. Would fail to idle properly. Clutch pedal would go tofloor andfailed to return to original position. Not able to shift gears. Have takenvehicle to dealership. Was informed by mechanic that problem were the valves inengine.

Bad car services repair had 2000 celica toyota service numerous times for engine and brakes problems, still having problems. Toyota services want to tear down engine for further check noise. In which i have complained several times about hearing noise from the engine, they statedcould not hear any noise. I had the car service 04/09/2005 for engine check light came on they fix the gasket, but cont to have problem with the auto. I think i have bad lemon car i don't know what to do.i have a mechanical breakdown insurance warranty bumper to bumper supreme 72 100.000 miles they will inspected the engine.

I noticed that after a few hundred miles of freeway driving, i was burning oil very fast, but it wasn't noticeably smoking, or leaking. I'd say i use about one quart of oil every 900 miles or so. I did an oil consumption test with a toyota dealership and they confirmed the problem. They refused to honor a recall in europe for this very problem because it was issued in europe and not the u.s. Based on my research and survey of other 2000-2003 toyota celica gt owners, there are many who have suffered the same mysterious oil consumption. It is now a pretty well-known issue amongst the online toyota community.

Problem: my engine is burning excessive amounts of oil. Eventually i will have to replace the engine. On october 2007 i bought a used 2000 toyota celica gt. In december 27, 2007 the check oil light went on. In november 2008, engine would not start in the morning. I had just had an oil change about 1,000 miles before this day. This morning i found out all the oil burned out and there was no oil in the car, so i added oil. I visited the dealer and they explained away the problem, stating they suspect the guy who changed my oil simply forgot to add oil. Come on - how could i drive 2,000 miles with no oil into he engine? in december the car stalled an engine light came on. I pulled over and checked the oil level to find there was no oil in the pan and when i added oil it leaked out. I towed the car to the dealer. They said they found a hole in the oil pan, so they replaced the oil pan. In january, i had the dealer do an oil consumption test. They apparently marked the oil pan and i came in again and they checked the oil level. They said i am only burning 1/2 quart oil per 1,000 miles. They are lying! i checked my oil level after 1,200 miles and found the oil burned 1 quart of oil. The dealer does not want to replace my engine but i am covered by an extended warranty. Please help. I want to be able to return this used car back to the dealer who sold it to me.

2000-02 toyota celica 1zz-fe engine suffers from excessive oil burning which can cause engine damage at highway speeds which can lean do accident. I own a 2000 celica and my car burns a lot of oil, i have to add oil every time i fill up my car, its not good for the engine, my wallet and the environment toyota issued a service bulletin in europe but does not want to fix the same problems in usa. Please, we need you help very much.here is some info on the problem:toyota of europe serve bulletin on 1zz-fe engine (same engine as in usa celica and corolla)1) http://toyota-club.net/files/07-01-10/eg6020-toy.pdfdescription of the problem2)http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/news/autoexpressnews/214788/toyota_engine_woes.htmlthank you very much

(1). - my 2000 toyota celica burning 5qt of oil every week- eventually the engine built oil sludge. (2). The third valve doesn't have any compression due to the sludge problem(3). I have to get a new engine to be put in my car.

My 2000 celica suffers from excessive oil burning.nor do that low oil pressure lights flash to warn.my car around 4 years ago had a very serious problem with the oil burning and no warning lights.my car got to low on oil and spun a rod bearing, which caused the piston to loosen and beat the cylinder head up.my car was 2000 miles over warranty and the dealer refused to work with me.it cost me well over $1,500 dollar to fix the problem.the cylinder had to be turned to remove the damage, had to replace the piston and ring on the affected cylinder.i was never given any kind of low oil pressure lights and had my oil changed regularly.i have a 1zz-fe engine, i reported to my local dealer that i was having issue with running out of oil maybe a month after oil changes.the dealer did test and said could not find any leaks, but did not test for excessive oil burning.so this error on toyotas part cost me quite a chunk of money.

I have a 2000 gt. Bought it used, 3 weeks after owning it starts using about 1/2 - 1 qt. Of oil a week. So take it to a toyota dealership and they say our best bet is to have the engine re-built which cost $1,500! so the engine is re-built everything is fine for about a month then it starts using oil again and by this time there's no warranty. So i continued to keep driving checking and adding oil. 5 months later i'm driving down the highway the temp. Gauge goes all the way to hot and drops right back down. A couple of days later the engine blows up. After having a new engine put in it, engine costing $2,000 for a used engine. The temp. Gauge does this again... Come to find out air is in the coolant system and toyota never got it all out the first time and that's why it blew up.

The contact owns a 2000 toyota celica.the contact stated that his vehicle burns at least a quart of oil every 500 miles with no signs of leakage.there is a recall on the 1999 celica, but not for the 2000 models.the contact also stated that the vehicle's master cylinder was recalled.he was previously involved in a crash due to brake failure.the dealer stated that the master cylinder was operating normally, however the brake fuel was contaminated.the insurance company stated that he was 100% liable.toyota stated that the master cylinder was working properly and he believed that toyota should be at least 50% responsible and should pay for the crash and failure expenses.the current mileage is 120,000 and failure mileage was 70,000. The engine size is not available.

From the day of purchase the belt tensioner has been squeaking.i have taken it to the dealer at least 10 times. Initially they told me that they tightened and that it was fixed.after about a year they agreed to replace the belt.i don't know if they ever have.after i moved to st. Paul i took it to a new dealer, and was told that it is a self tightening belt and cannot be tightened.for the past 2 1/2 years it has gotten consistently worse, and no one will do anything about it.also, upon starting, the car bogs, has some sort of loss of power.this can be dangerous when pulling out in traffic.there is also a knocking in the engine and when idling, the rpm's jump around erratically.i have complained about this for over 2 years, yet none of the dealers will do anything about any of it.

Consumer attempted to downshift from 5th gear to 4th gear and it shifted to 2nd instead. As a result of that problemhead gasket blewout.toyota tookno responsibility forrepair. Consumer believed this to be a design flaw.

2000 toyota celica gt purchased 05/2008so far my car is not fixed so all my money is in first desludging of motor(2 weeks after purchase oil light came on & was totally empty) & oil. At first i went thru 1/2 to 1 qrt every other week. I live 35 miles from work & 76 miles from family so putting about 500 miles a week on vehicle.it slowly started to get to be more and more oil.in 01/2009 it thru cat conv.working below efficiency zone 2 code. In last 2 months started taking 2qtrs on mondays & 2qrts on wednesdays to get back & forth to work. More if i visited my family (had to relocate away after losing house in katrina.) then 2 weeks ago i got a call while at work that my dad (who isin a nursing home) was having problems. I put 2qrts in drove 35miles from work to my dad. Put 2 more qrts in it before leaving to return home & when i got of interstate 76 miles away i put it in first gear coming to a red light & oil light flashed. I pulled directly into chevron there was nothing reading on dip stick. I went bought 4 more qrts of oil. And limped home about 1.5 miles away. I went thru 8qrts of oil that day @4.99 a pop.hasn't been driven since. I'm scared motor will seize @ rate its consuming oil if i try to drive it. Called all star 2 weeks ago when i had sudden oil consumption.(8gts in 111 miles), no leaks, but clogged cat converter.i asked about prices on valve stem seals. I had already seen from other celica owners on net forums that this was a major problem for 00-01 models & that there was a tsb in uk but not usa toyota just changed motor in 02 the piston rings and bore finish were updated on the late '02. Service dept told me they had never heard of this problem before (i'm the only one) but with the amount of oil lossit would prob. Need alot more then just the valve stems.

The engine will nearly stall intermittently after cold start of the vehicle when leaving driveway and entering traffic. The engine will bog with no power feeling like a stall is imminent (usually after sitting overnight). This happens 3 or so times per week and has been happening for 3 months. It did not occur in the previous 8.5 months of ownership.. Reapplying the clutch and revving the engine and slipping the clutch helps however the engine is slow to recover (~2 seconds). A similar start (same rpm and clutch action) after the engine has warmed up does not exhibit the action. This happens with ambient temperatures of 60-80 degrees.

The motor is clicking, and it also stalls out at 6700rpm's when cold.

Vehicle stalls when starting out in first gear, consumer has to rev up the engine when starting out from a complete start at least 2 or 3 times a week.

Toyota has a big problem with there 6 speed in the new celica.they even told me about it at toyota.the malfunction is that when trying to shift from 3rd to 4th gear the transmission will slip into 2nd instead of 4th.this then causes the engine to be blown.this is a very dangerous situation if trying to merge with traffic on interstate at around 70 to 75 mph and suddenly you cars deccelarates instantly to around 50 mph.they need to do something about it before someone gets seriously hurt, or is that what it is going to take before they will!!

Very unhappy how schaumburg toyota in il is treating me. No safety defect listed.

Manufacturer refuses to honor warranty. Same problem exists with many other similar vehicles. Reports can be found on other web sites. Check www.celica.net under the service & warranties section. No safety defect mentioned in summary.

2k celica is having many engine problems, needs something done. I am really dissapointed, and toyota doesnt want to fix the second failure.

1. Engine failure. While driving at approximately 40mph a loud noise (snap or pop) followed by other odd noises were exhibited by the engine. At that time all engine power (including power assisted steering and brakes) was lost. 2. Transmission.shifter noises are exhibited while selecting gears. The noise, a loud squeaking while moving shifter into or out of gear, initially started at around 1000 miles and was only present during reverse, 1st, or 2nd shift. The symptom has worsened and is now present when selecting any gear (1-6 or reverse). It was initially noted informally with the dealer, and formally documented on the 02/06/2001 service visit (7486 miles).difficulty shifting into 1, 2, 3, and 6 was also noted at this time. This too has worsened, grinding is experienced most times when selecting reverse and frequently in other gears. Second gear is the worst offender and often will not engage fully. Overall shift quality (both shifting precision and shifing effort required) has severely degraded. 3. Seat belt tab. With either front seat extended rearward (for a tall driver or passenger) the door will impact the seat belt tab that in turn impacts side airbag assembly when the door is closed. Visible damage to both the driver and passenger door panels is evident. It is unknown if any damage to the side airbag assemblies has been sustained.

I have a 2000 toyota celica gts i have an ongoing problem with the belt tensioner that squeaks and rattles!also the lift bolts are an issue because they wear out and have to be replaced overtime.*la

The serpentine belt tensioner for my toyota celica is once again failing.the vehicle has 75000 miles on it, and the tensioner has already been replaced twice.it eventually fails to the point the belt is constantly slipping.

Moisture in the headlights and squeaking belt tensioner.

On 8/8/03 i brought my 2000 toyota celica gt-s w/ 33k miles to the service department at a-1 toyota, 50 amity rd, new haven, ct for a problem regarding some very loud continuous squealing originating from the engine compartment, especially during engine idle. At 4:20pm, a service technician (ken) called to inform me that a part called a 'belt tensioner' would have to be ordered, and the estimated cost for this part and installation would be $485.00.ken asked me if i'd like him to order the part and schedule an appointment, i said i'd let him know monday. Then i did some research, and found a nhtsa technical service bulletin #628669 (toyota tsb #eg01401) pertaining to my specific complaint, and how to remedy it. I also read a very good article on edmunds.com about tsb's, and how they are regarded by the industry as 'secret warranties'...if the customer's vehicle is exhibiting a problem specifically identified in a nhtsa tsb, the manufacturer wants the dealership to fix the problem free of charge, even if the vehicle is over it's warranty period (mine is by 7 months) so that customers complaints are resolved before it turns into a recall issue.i then called a-1 toyota's service manager (mike), explaining that i had a nhtsa tsb in my hand for the very same problem my vehicle was exhibiting, and was not happy that i'd have to pay $485.00 to have it fixed, even though there was a tsb issued about my vehicle's problem. I found mike extremely uncooperative regarding this issue, telling me toyota would not fix my problem since i was over my warranty period by 7 months.again, according to the edmunds.com article pertaining to tsb's, whether the vehicle is over or under the warranty, manufacturers want the problem fixed by their dealerships before too many customers complain about the same defect and are forced by nhtsa to issue a recall.consider this my formal complaint in getting this problem one step closer to a recall. *nlm

My 2000 celica gt-s (bought new) has exhibited a squealing from the engine compartmrnt since about 12,000 miles.a pulley belt tensioner and the belt have been completey replaced at least 5 times (i lost count), as well as "repaired" by toyota at least 3 additonal times.in june 2003, at about 72,000 miles, 2 months afetr i had taken the car to the dealer for yet another repair of this item, the entire assembly failed when the connector colt sheared off at the engine block, requiring the engine to be removed to drill out the bolt and remount the assembly.this was fixed, luckily, under my extended warranty, althought the bill was listed as $1271.the entire unit was replaced again yesterday, march 18, 2004 only 9 months since the last rebuild.the assembly has yet to last more than 9 months without breaking, so is always fixed under the repair's 1-year warranty.still when the assembly broke off the engine block, among other things, the power steering pump failed.had i been going 65 mph, it could have been catastrophic.keep in mind it had been "repaired" only 2 months prior.the delaer offers no sysmpathy for the continued fixes, nor a reason why it continues to fail.this thing has never worked right, and apparently never will.

Belt makes a very loud noise.had the belt replaced 3/02-mileage 20k+. Noise has come back and louder at 36k.tried lubricating, made the noise worse.the car has been taken to the dealer 5 times for same problem.dealer says belt must be replaced again.*nlm

Engine accessory drive belt tensioner is very noisy and squeals when wet.problem was diagnosed and repaired by dealer, but after 20,000 miles the problem returned.it's especially noisy after vehicle has warmed and sits at idle.dealer has been very cooperative, but vehicle is now out of warranty.*la

My yearmodel 2000 toyota celica has consistently and repeatedly had problems with the drive belt tensioner mechanism.on or about every 30,000 miles, the belt tensioner fails at which time rattling and squeaking noises eminate from the engine compartment as described in tsb #eg01401.i was able to have the tensioner replaced under warranty once.the next time it was replaced out of warranty at about 60 - 70,000 miles.now the vehicle has 90,000 miles on it and it is obvious that this part has failed again.i am concerned that the repeated and consistent failure of this part is putting my life and my passengers life at risk.

My car makes a loud squealing noise usually occurring when it rains or in the morning (i'm guessing due to condensation).the dealer replaced my belt tensioner two times to fix this problems but it always comes back.the first time they replaced it under warranty.the second time i had to pay around $450 to replace it and the noise still came back a week later.i'm guess that the rain is leaking into the engine compartment destroying the belt tensioner.i have complained about this many times and the dealer would either spray the belts with oil or replace the tensioner belt but the noise always comes back.

My engine in my car has had an oil sludging and dissapearing problem for about two years. The first time they fixed it and the second time they just ignored it.

While driving 55-60 mphbottom ofvehicle was scrapping. Mechanic stated shield that protects wires/ fuel lines, and hose came off /loosened, causing expensive damage toair conditionervalve, which was notfunctioning.

I am trying to renew my registration for my 2000 toyota and it doesn't let me and it might have a recall on the lights

Right headlight keeps shorting out.have replaced it twice in the past three months.*la

Front headlight seals have failed on both lights two years after the purchase of my 2000 toyota celica gts. On observing other vehicles of the same model and year i see that more than 50% of them have the same problem. I have reported this to my local toyota dealer and was told it was a common problem but not covered by my extended warranty. Both lights now fill with water condensation at every rain and interfere with headlight efficiency.

Both headlights went out.dealership inspected and said that the headlights were burned out.this is unreasonable that both headlights would burnout at precisely the same time, particularly when the car was only 4 years old.

Moisture in the headlights and squeaking belt tensioner.

There is a fuel leakdue to a brokenhose.dealer has not remedied problem.

The trunk doesn't stay open in cold weather, hit me in the head with the center latch.

2000 toyota celica hatchback.the hatchback hydraulic hinges are defective.the rear door doesn't remain open when it gets warm or cold.i've reported to the local dealer who gave me a 1-800# that puts one in an endless loop.i provided feedback on the consumer form but haven't been contacted.this is a dangerous situation as one could receive severe or even fatal head injuries.

This vehicle has ( according to all sources available )burned oil from the time it left the plant brand new, most 2000 to 2002 toyota celica gt's have this issue as the rings were bad. Toyota has never produced a recall for this issue and it has effected thousands of vehicles.toyota did change the rings out for the 2003 models and newer, so they did know the problem existed.this has caused many celica's to experience blown motors.

Had a missshift from 3rd to 2nd gear at highway speeds twice dealer won't cover defect in transmission.

Consumer attempted to downshift from 5th gear to 4th gear and it shifted to 2nd instead. As a result of that problemhead gasket blewout.toyota tookno responsibility forrepair. Consumer believed this to be a design flaw.

Gear shifter makes squeaking noise.this incident happened 3 times already.they applied lube to linkage area but it only solved the problem temporarily

While changing gears noticed grinding noise. Dealer has contacted dealer. A technician changed transmission fluids.while traveling home and when shifting to 5th gear noticed a noise. Consumer stated that shif gear traveled toleft when vehicle hit 3rd gear, causing front tires to lock up . Please provide further information.

The transmission is too easy to shift from 5th into 2nd and i almost blew the engine.this problem is known by toyota but they are not willing to fix the problem.as for the cruise control, every 2000 celica has the same problem.the cruise control slows down without warning up to 20mph.with no brake lights activated to indicate deceleration of the car an accident could easily happen.

Transmission will not shift into overdrive after hours of driving.

Transmission is too easy to shift into wrong gears. Same four valves have been bent twice, once as a result of clutch sticking to floor causing a mis-shift. Cruise control disengages after a few minutes of use causing the car to slow down abruptly.

While merging, the clutch pedal stuck to the floor.the shifter was pulled out of gear (3rd) and resulted in a misplacement into 2nd gear.the pedal needed to be pried up off the floor with the drivers foot.this could have led to a serious crash/injury.

Drive axles make cracking noise when backing up and applying the brake.dealer claims they did not hear any noises.engine make knocking sounds at idle speed.dealer replace belt tensioner.a week later, a squeaking noise appears from the drive belt area.when making turns, a grinding noise occurs in the wheels area.again, dealer claimed they did not hear any noise.

When the weather is cold and the car is started in neutral, the car begins to move forward by itself when the clutch it let out.toyota dealer says this is normal in cold weather, but it is not safe at all!

The car does not have a lockout on the gear shift, the car easily shifts from 5th to 2nd, when this occurs the slows from 70 mph to 35 in just a few seconds, this could cause a dangerous situation.nlm

Rear end locked up and caused loss of control of vehicle the vehicle rolled and the air bags did not deploy the vehicle is totaled.

While shifting from 6th to 5th gear transmission slipped into a lower gear, causing engine to blowout.

Vehicle equipped with6-speed manual transmission has a poor design ingear shift which allowsdriverto jump gears, such asshifting from 5th to 2nd durning a downshifting.this design did not have a catch which could preventtransmission invehicle from failing due to stress.dealership informedconsumer that thiswas a common problem in these vehicles. Please provide any additional information/attachments.

While shifting gear for example from 3rd gear to 4th gear, consumer is able to switch into 2nd gear which may cause the vehicle to downshift hard, and cause a crash.when the gear shifts from 3rd to 2nd, the speed changes from 70 to virtual stop immediatley.

The rear passenger side seat belt did not secure the rear passenger tightly.*nlm

This complaint involves defective seatbelts in vehicle. Although there has been no accident, the seatbelts would offer no protection. Even the rear belts that have not been used are deteriorerating.

Consumer states that while driving at 32-32 mph and the consumer t-boned another vehicle and the seat belts did not hold the consumer in place properly. Contacted dealer.nlm

Gearbox poor design permits unsafe & dangerous highspeed downshifts to lower gears causing engine failure.

Gearbox poor design permits unsafe & dangerous highspeed downshifts to lower gears causing engine failure.

The car's design impairs visibility to the rear.you cannot really see if it's clear when you want to back up or change lanes.it doesn't seem safe to drive when you can't see for sure what's behind you.

Bolts spoiler onvehicle have loosened, causingspoiler to drop.dealer told tconsumer it wasn't theirproblem. Onceconsumer drovevehicle todealer, they spent 1 1/2 hours fixing/ tighting bolts, and they wouldn't giveconsumer a receipt.

Sunroof will leak when its raining or being washed.interior paneling is separating. The vehicle would shake & nearly stall out.vehicle pulls to the right & not aligned. The little plugs are coming out of vehicle.

Engine consumes oil & paint chips very easily (spectra blue)

Cruise control will momentarily disengage after about 20 minutes of use causing the car speed to suddenly decrease. The speed wil then level out and very slowly increase back to the original level.this contimues to happen intermitently.

Three times in the past 2 years my toyota 2000 celica's accelerate stuck when i applied the brakes.i am not sure what caused the problem.

On may 3rd, 2008 i had an incident with my 2000 celica gts. I was using cruise control at 65mph. I tapped my brakes to disengage the cruise control as i exited one highway onto another. When i clicked resume on my cruise control my car accelerated past 65mph and continued climbing. I tapped my brakes but my car continued to accelerate. I turned off the cruise control but the car continued to accelerate past 85mph. I pushed my clutch petal in and the engine rev'd near redline. I released the clutch and turned off the engine in the middle of the highway. Toyota told me that the throttle cable had rust and stuck open when the cruise control requested acceleration. In turn my clutch/transmission were blown. I believe this failure mode is a serious safety issue, the car continuously accelerating and the only way to remedy is to turn the car off at high speed on a highway.

The contact owns a 2000 toyota celica. The contact started the ignition and observed that the pedal was sticky whenpressure was applied to the accelerator pedal.while the vehicle was in operation extreme pressure was also applied to the brake pedal and clutch in order to stop the vehicle.the failure occurred on two separate occasions.the vehicle has not been inspected for the malfunction. The vin was unavailable. The failure mileage was 128.

Past incident that i thought you should be made aware of.2000 toyota celica accelerator stuck and car ended up going through a building.i reported incident to toyota, but their response of 11-6-03 simply stated airbags are designed to provide protection for driver and they sent me a brochure on air bags.the consumer stated she pulled into a parking lot and stopped the car. Suddenly, the vehicle shifted gears and the accelerator became stuck.updated ivoq 04/02/10
