The contact owns a 2006 toyota camry. The contact stated that while driving 35 mph, the air bag indicator illuminated. After taking the vehicle to the dealer the contact was informed that the indicator was repaired after resetting the air bag module. After a period of time when the contact would move the seats the air bag indicator would illuminate again. The dealer was notified of the recent failure and the contact was instructed that the air bag sensor would need to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that they would not cover the cost of the sensor replacement. The vehicle was not further repaired. The failure mileage was 6 and current mileage was 90,060. The vin was not available.

Wife was driving and noted that the red airbag warning light had gone on.we stopped.i moved the seat and began driving.the airbag warning light was off.the light remained off until early 2014, when it began alternating periods of on and off.on march 27, 2014, we took our camry to our toyota dealer.the dealer wrote (report is in the computer holdings of toyota motor sales, u.s.a.): "found the seat track floor covering has come loose which once the seat has moved it caused the cover to [be] pushed against the airbag connector underneath the seat.this causes the light to come on due to no communication at the drivers side airbag squib connector.(code b1821)"the dealer repaired the wiring.it is evident now that each time my wife or i moved the driver's seat there was a possibility of disruption of the airbag electrical circuit.the seat is driven by an electric motor, so there was no chance we disrupted the wiring as might happen with a manually readjusted seat.this is a serious safety defect caused by poor engineering design and not a "wear and tear" issue.the airbag electrical circuit should have been designed so as to have been safe from disruption by movement of the driver's-side seat.on april 9, 2014, toyota announced a recall for an airbag electrical connection design defect--in the steering column rather than under the seat--similar to what we experienced.based on our experience, the recall does not go as far as it should have.

The contact owns a 2006 toyota camry.while driving at various speeds, the air bag light would illuminate and then dim.currently, the air bag light remains illuminated.the vehicle was taken to a dealer six times.the first four times, the dealer reset the air bag light and the fifth time the dealer replaced the driver side air bag assembly.the air bag light remains dim in intervals of two to four months and then illuminates again.the air bag light has illuminated again two weeks ago.the current mileage was 36,700 and failure mileage was 9,000.

The vehicle was taken to the dealer who advised that there were no recalls for the vehicle and in order to repair the air bags, they would have to remove the passenger's seat and replace it with a new air bag assembly, all at the contact's expense. The manufacturer was notified who also advised the contact that there were no recalls and that he should contact the dealer for the repairs. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 113,417 and the current mileage was 234,000.updated 012/14/12*ljthe consumer stated the local dealer offered $1,000 assistance of the total cost ($3,300) as a goodwill gesture. The consumer declined. Updated 12/17/2012

My airbags light is on and my airbags are not working making it very dangerous. I brought my into the dealer and he said that the computer system in the car is defective causing my airbag system to be inoperable. They will not fix it. I only have 49,000 miles on the car. I am concerned that if i am in a accident my airbags will not protect me.

I was pulling slowly into a parking space in front of an office building. When i gently applied the brake, the car suddenly zoomed forward and struck the front of the building, shattering a large glass window and its frame and area around it. This stopped the car. I put it into reverse and backed into the parking space.the air bag did not inflate. Fortunately, the occupant of that office had just left. Otherwise she would have been hit by flying glass. I had never before had trouble of this kind with this toyota. The damage was repaired, but i sold the car to the auto body shop.

Traveling at highway speeds in damp rainy cool weather, the airbag light came on and it's staying on.

Srs waring light on. Takata recall

Vehicle airbag warning light came on for passenger side. Dash message said airbag off even though passenger was in the seat.car was taken to dealer who said "the computer got confused, probably because weight exceeding trigger threshold was removed from seat & replaced while car was running".computer needed to be "re-calibrated".i was charged $95 labor to re-calibrate. In my opinion for the computer to disable the airbag because something was moved in or out of the seat is a serious safety concern.if there is proper weight, the bag should be on, otherwise off, but not disabled requiring a trip to the dealer to fix and an exorbitant labor charge to fix.

In 2008 my 2006 camry had the warning light for the seat belt come on.wellesley toyota corrected the problem.i took the car back in 2009 twice for the same problem.the problem reoccurred in 2010 and i had it repaired at another toyota dealer.since then it comes on and other times goes out.now it is permanently on.

I was traveling sw around 35mph and entered an intersection with the green light. Another (unlicensed) driver also traveling at the same speed entered the intersection traveling ne, his light was red, but he ran it. My front end impacted his drivers side (near the front tire) both of his air bags deployed, yet neither of mine did. My front end (frame) bent like a v-shape, and fluid from the radiator drained onto the hot engine. I had to be evacuated from the car by the local emt and was taken by ambulance to emergency. I have photos that would love to share especially toyota, so they can explain to me why the air bags failed, and put me into what is going to be months of therapy.

The airbag warning light came on in the car.we brought it to the dealer and were told that there is an internal open inside circuit in the side air bag of the passenger seat.because this is an integral problem with the seat, it needs to be replaced.approximate cost with tax is $3400.00.other similar complaints are on the internet.i believe that there is a systemic issue with the seat/air bag system.

Driving home from work i hit a large deer, approximately 200 pounds, at 45 mph, direct front end contact, causing damage to the whole front hood, grille, both front fenders, radiator, headlights, air conditioning system.air bags did not deploy, no injury to me.received my car from the body shop october 25th and everything looked great.after driving approximately 800 miles noticed a little body misalignment and on the 18th of october i drove to the body shop to have them look at the alignment problem and check the air bag warning light.they are working on the body issue, which i could care less about, however, after doing a scan of the car systems, with the hand held scanner, the air bag warning is not a sensor issue due to the collision with the deer, but it is in the passenger seat sensor/wiring which should be a toyota issue.i have researched this and there are several complaints online, but i have not seen a re-call from toyota, the fix for this situation is to replace the passenger seat at a cost of about $3400.00.my biggest concern is why did the air bags not deploy and now is the total air bag system not functioning?

Traffic light was green, i entered intersection and hit another vehical broadside. My car received damage to the front bumper, the left front fender, and the right front fender.air bags did not deploy.

After starting the car the drivers airbag light stays on.when the car is started again the light may not be on.this went on for 3 days.the toyota dealership hooked up the car to read any codes that were there.after 3 days at the dealership the field rep states that a new seat and floor wiring has to be purchased.there is a short in the floor wiring.total will cost $3450.the drivers seat has to be replaced along with the wiring.if not replaced the airbag will not go off.

The contact owns a 2006 toyota camry. While driving 65 mph, the air bag warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer. Vehicle referenced left target, stoughton,ma, parking lot at 12:10pm-11-11-14 (with 7yr old grandson car seated behind driver & driver was in seatbelt).when existing lot, another car backed out of parking space and hit rt, back end of ref car.driver of ref vehicle looked behind at vehicle that struck her and, as she turned forward & barely stepped on gas to move away from vehicle that hit her, there was a loud clicking noise, tires started spinning and car took off accelerating w/o control of brakes, shift or steering. Ref vehicle hit curb, accelerated up hill from parking lot and went airborne, crashed down into guardrail at approx 45-50mph and airbags did not deploy.driver is sure ref vehicle would have continued traveling forward if not for guardrail!driver of vehicle (and grandson) were taken in ambulance to hospital and in triage all day.driver suffered head and eye injuries and hematomas from neck down.grandson reported slight back pain and was released. Thankfully, neither of ref vehicle's occupants were maimed or died. After much research, found there are 2006 toyota camrys with etc issues.again, no control of any aspect of car - could not put in neutral, gear shift just "floated" over all gears when trying to use!would like for nhtsa to inspect gas pedal for "whiskers" or other problems that led to this.as driver of this vehicle, i can honestly state thati have a great driving record and i am not prone to "driver error" putting foot on gas pedal instead of brake (and accelerating to that distance) and there was no carpet for pedal to stick under.checked toyota dealership where my mom purchased this car (she passed prior to this).they informed me that there were no recalls for this vin#.makes me wonder about airbag deployment as well.none of this should have happened!any feedback from you would be greatly appreciated.thank you.

Yesterday while driving the vehicle on city streets with my wife on the passenger seat the passenger "air bag off" light came on and stayed on.the car has 78,131 miles on the odometer.the toyota owner's manual states that the "air bag off" indicator means that the passenger air bag system is disabled.i checked on the internet and found that there are many complaints about this problem but i did not see that toyota has taken any action. Obviously, this is a serious safety issue that should be addressed before someone get injured or killed.if there is a recall now or in the future, please let me know.

My toyota camry 2006, purchased on 3/29/06 was involved in two major accidents and it was totalled after the second major accident which occoured on 3/30/07. On the first major accident, my wife who was driving the vehicle, tried to stop the vehicle at the signal, instead it raced forwardon its own and hit another vehicle. On the second major incident, after stopping the car and allowing another car to pass on the same road in the opposite direction, she made a left turn and the car accelerated uncontrollably and hit a big tree standing at an elevated part of the road. By looking at the scene anybody can come to the conclusion that some kind of malfunctioning of the acceleration mechanism has happened. In both of these major accidents, none of the air-bags deployed. The same car had another similar incident but no property was damaged and therefore, that incident was not reported to police but a co-worker drove the vehicle out of the retaining pond. In this incident, my wife after parking the car, tried to pull it a little further and then the car jumped across the concrete bump and fell into the retaining pond. Luckly there was no water.

Air bag light came on and it is still on.

Passenger airbag sensoron now and the wheels grind after brake changeand highway rides are unsafe always has been just my wife doesn't feel safe driving it

On april 21, 2015 i had my car in the dealer for a oil change etc. When i left the dealer i noticed that my air bag light was on located on the dash and also the air baglight stated that it was off. I went back to the dealer and showed him what happened and he stated that it was a computer problem and it would cost me around $700.00 to repair the computer. I told him it was not on when i brought the car in and now it is on. I only have approx., 48,000 on this car and i purchased it new in nov. 2005. He did not fix it and i am concerned that if i get into a accident the airbag system will not work. I do not have the $700.00 to get it fixed. I do not believe what he told me, it must be something else with the airbag system. As long as the airbag lights are on it will not pass state inspection. I need it fixed.thank you.

Air bag light came on intermittently for weeks before coming on in february 2015.thinking it was not urgent, i took the car into the dealership and they ran the code. I bought a toyota camry 2006 from maple hill auto group in kalamazoo, mi in march of 2011.the car had 49,202 miles on it at the time.when i test drove it, i noticed the airbag light was on. I expressed concern to the salesman who indicated "oh, that's just a sensor issue, that can be fixed quickly." i purchased the car with some reservation about the light.when i picked up the car, the light was off (they had taken it to the local toyota dealership to fix).everything was fine for about 5 months in august when the light came back on again.i returned it to maple hill auto and was told by the salesman that "the airbag light was not part of powertrain warranty and therefore would not be fixed.i then took it to the toyota dealer who informed me that they could "tweak"it again but in evidently the entire front seat may have to be removed at a cost of about $3000, which of course i don't have.so they "tweaked" it again and it was okay for a while.now, july 2012, it has come back on again.on my sales agreement with maple hill auto it states "dealer will repair air bag light issue."obviously, this has not happened.the car only had 49,000 miles on it when the light was on originally.the original warranty for camrys is supposed to be 60,0000 miles for this issue.i feel that i have been scammed and lied to by the dealer who only took it to toyota to get the light temporarily off so i would buy the car.i believe they knew it was a more serious issue because i believe toyota told them it would be a recurring problem.now i feel stuck as i cannot afford to replace a seat and i don't feel a 2006 camry i paid $12,350 for should have this issue.aren't they supposed to be about safety?now i am forced to drive around in an unsafe car, including with my grandchildren.i think maple hill autoshould fix this problem at no cost to myself.

2006 camry....while inching my car forward in my driveway to position the car to back it up, i was applying the brake and moving at a speed of no more than 2-3 mph.the car started to accelerate which kept increasing.i was taken by surprise, didn't know what was happening.i looked down at the accelerator to make sure it wasn't me.my foot was on the brake.before i knew it, i hit head on the very large tree at the end of my driveway.i was approximately 4 ft from the tree when the engine started revving.i had my seat belt on, which saved me from smacking my face on the steering wheel.my head jerked forward and i had a tremendous headache afterwards with pain in my neck.the air bag did not deploy.i put the car in park and my husband reached in the window and turned the engine off.when i started it up again, there was no problem and i carefully moved it away from the tree. The force with which i hit the tree pushed in my front end and also did some damage under the hood since the power steering fluid was leaking.i am currently waiting for the insurance adjustor to check this out.he did say that if he doesn't experience the same problem, he doesn't know what can be done by toyota.needless to say, i am anxious for the results and will not feel safe driving my car.

My car has experienced two electrical problems within the past 2 years.i own a 2006 toyota camry. Bought in sept 2005.dec 2008 thebattery died and my local garage traced it to the alarm- they disconnectedthe module. Aaa replaced the battery. Nov 15, -2010-, battery died again and the car was towed to my local station. They located another draw on battery but could not repair it and sent it to balise in warwick ri. I had purchased it there.after 2-3 days on their computer, they located it in the instrument cluster in the odometer.the car has no serious recalls on it and i note that though 2005, 2007-2010 have been recalled the 2006 has not. I wish to report this so it is on record in the event there is a recall.the car has 25,000 miles on it and the repair this time will cost about $1100. I have been without a car for 7 days as balise had toorder the part last friday nov. 19th. It will arrive, hopefully, mon nov 22nd.

My complaint is about the unsafe power door lock mechanism used on the 2006 toyota camry xle (and countless other vehicles they produce) i am now on my fifth failure. Every single power door lock failed and now it's starting all over again! this is a major safety hazard! if you get into a bad wreck and the power doors fail to open it could be a matter of life and death. Every second counts! i'll be glad to give you access to the car and provide any further info you need.

- the contactnoticed a rattle andheard squeaky noise coming from the front dash and center console of the 2006 toyota camry on the day of purchase. The vehicle will decelerate while driving and vibrate when first turned on.the dealer replaced the dash after keeping the vehicle for two weeks.however, the contact did not see any work was done on the vehicle.the noise still occurred .the contacttook the vehicle 4 - 5 times to the dealer with no resolution since the vehicle was purchased in june 23 2006.the contact stated that the vehicle was only giving 23 miles per gallon, no way near the 40 miles per gallon advertised by the manufacturer.the failure mileage was 30 miles , and the current mileage was 10,200 miles.

Odometer reads 10% high. This is verified with two different gps units simultaneously as well as highway radar signs. Dealer (taylor toyota) falsely claims odometer/speedometer is accurate. This may lead to driving too slowly, and also falsely indicates a higher mileage than true, devaluing the vehicle.

I own a 2006 toyota camry le.the problem with my vehicle occurs on mornings when the temperature falls just below 50 degrees f.when the needs arises to use the horn the sound it makes is as if the horn is sticking and can not sound t6he proper tone and volume of the horn.once the horn is used and this occurs the horn works properly until the next morning the temperature falls below 50 degrees f.i have recorded this occurrence on a voice recorder but the dealer does not want to accept it as proof.no repair work has been accomplished as the dealer states they must replicate the issue before they will fix the problem.the service manager stated to me that it is tootsie policy that if warranty work is performed and the part is deemed not defective by toyota, the dealership must accept responsibility for the cost of the repair and parts.this is a safety issue as the horn is not functioning at proper db levels that it was manufactured for.this could lead to a serious accident if the horn decides not to function properly when needed in an emergency situation.

2006 camry steering wheel locked and ignition key refused to turn.

After driving the automobile for some time (the engine was fully warmed), the engine quit and the dash board ceased all indications.this occurred in traffic.fortunately traffic was very light and i was able to pull to the side of the road without incident.the engine restarted when the ignition key was turned.this occurred on three separate occasions.the vehicle currently has less than 1500 miles on the odometer.

My 2006 camry ranaway on rt 290 west when it was a few months old following the replacement of an oxysendor and installation of toyota floor mats.i could not stop the car as it entered the highway and thus i rearended a semi who never even knew that i hit him.yet, greater than 2000.00 of damage happened to my auto.i have paid nearly 3000.00 in penalties for an accident which i had no control over.from thence, i was told to put my car in neutral when i stopped at lights etc.it tried to runaway at least 20 times sporadically..i took it to toyota dealers who told me that nothing was wrongwith the car.i tried to file a lemon law.it was 3 yrs of driving in ?!@#$% never knowing what could happen next.i have witnesses.

Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).i purchase a 2006 camry in dec. 2005.within weeks the oxygen sensor needed replacement.jan 2006 as i entered 290w in northboro ma the car accelerated from 10mph to 80 +mph without warning.as traffic was bumper to bumper the car slammed into the back of a semi trailer.when the car was repaired of course i was told i had stepped on the gas not the brake. This was not true!!!however, having no other explanation i accepted the cause.however, as many as 2 dozen times the car accelerated when parking into a spot.i had been instructed to shift the car into neutral if this ever happened again, and i did.i drove the car for 3 years, took it to dealers, tried to file a lemon law complaint, but to no avail.i have finally traded in the auto and want to recoup my $4000.00 of deductibles and surcharges that i paid for no fault of mine.how do i do this. My car was tested and qualified for an engine internal rebuild due to excessive engine oil consumption.it's been a year and the parts still have not been delivered to the dealer.meanwhile i have to fill up the oil 3+ times in-between every oil change which is costing me the equivalent of an additional oil change for every oil change (approximately $30 extra every oil change).

I am the original owner of a 2006 solara that currently has about 56,000 miles. Last year, the check engine light started turning on, but it wasn't until this year that i found out the problem. My car is burning excessive oil, about 1.75 quarts every 1,200 miles (according to the dealership's oil consumption test.) toyota issued a technical service bulletin in 2011 stating that it will only fix the 2007 and 2008 solaras. Although my car is a 2006, it has the exact same engine as the 2007 and 2008. I already called toyota corporate twice and they refuse to pay for the repair, arguing that it is out of warranty. I am aware of that, but it is obviously a manufacturng problem. My car is low on mileage, it's never been crashed, and i've done all the maintenance at the dealership in a timely manner since the day i bought it. Toyota is well aware that this is a very common problem with these engines and they refuse to fix it. I shouldn't have to pay about $3,000 to fix it, if the problem is not my fault. I'm also not going to sell it to someone without telling them about the problem, because that's just wrong. So my only options are paying for the repair myself or selling it and taking a significant loss due to the problem. Yesterday my car started shaking when i was stopped at red lights, making loud unusual noises, losing power, and then the "check engine" light turned on. I don't feel safe driving the car because i've read that the engine can eventually just die due to excessive oil consumption. I've been reading about this issue, and there are thousands of others with the exact same problem. Toyota should be investigated and be forced to admit the problem and pay for the repairs of the customers involved.

On sunday, april 7th, i was traveling westbound on the southern state parkway at exactly fifty-five mph and exited at exit 17n. The exit ramp there is sloped uphill and parallels taylor road. There is a stop sign at the end of that ramp at hempstead avenue. Just as i was coming to the end of that ramp at very slow speed and almost to that sign, the engine suddenly sped up with extreme acceleration and the car lurched forward. I slammed my foot onto the brake pedal which kept the car from moving further forward and then before i could do anything else, the phenomenon ended and the engine returned to its normal idling speed of approximately 700 rpm on the dashboard tachometer.i drove home and parked the car in my driveway. The following morning, monday april 8th, i made an appointment for that day to bring the car to a toyota dealer. As i was preparing for that, i started the car and everything seemed normal. I put it into reverse in order to back out when the engine again suddenly sped up to extreme acceleration. Again, i slammed my foot onto the brake pedal and this time i put the gear shift into park which kept the car from moving further. The tachometer needle was rotated clockwise and well up into the "red" zone which begins at 6000 rpm. In a moment or so, the phenomenon again ended and the engine again returned to its normal idling speed.

2006 toyota camry 80k miles, had coolant leaking into engine cylinders caused by stripped head gasket bolts. Research shows this is a common problem and a design flaw for the 2az-fe engine which occur to many 2002 - 2006 camry. Toyota dealer wanted over $3,500 to fix it.. Toyota should recall and repair it under warranty.

The contact owns a 2006 toyota camry. When the vehicle was started, the check engine indicator illuminated and remained lit. The vehicle was taken to cox toyota (800-951-4400, located at 3860 danbrook rd, burlington, nc 27215) where the camshaft sensor was replaced. The failure recurred and the vehicle was taken back to the same dealer where the technician performed a diagnostic test, but was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The technician recommended that the wiring harness be replaced. The contact stated that the wiring harness was not the issue. The failure was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

I have properly maintained my vehicle since i purchased it. Tuesdayi headed to work and the oil light came on. I pulled over to the gas station to check it. I had no oil in my car. I just had an oil change less than two weeks prior. I the proceeded to put three quarts in my car.the oil light went out. I took it back to texas oil later that day and told them what happened.they checked it and told me the oil was full for the moment. I was told to come back and have it check the following day.i couldn't get there on weds, i went thursday.the car was low two quarts of oil. They checked the car both times for an oil leak. No leak. The next day i took it to my mechanic at firestone and he checked the oil, filled it up and told me to come back the next day and he would check it out really good. I went today and i had almost no oil. One quart. He checked the car. No oil leaks. He said the car looked really good for its age. There were no leaks and no explanation for the oil consumption. He told me it needed an engine. I was also told there was a possibility the engine could just shut down on me. That scared me. I work in home health. I drive my car to client's homes. I am afraid of a fire or something worse happening while i am driving.

I was pulling the car into a parking lot at a very slow speed (~4mph). Suddenly the car took off with full force of acceleration. The car jumped the concrete bar of the parking lot and accelerated as if with full applied gas. It just happened in few seconds, i tried to hit the break, but could not stop the car until it hit the 1.5" high foundation of the building and stopped. The engine was still on, and the front wheels still spun very fast until i changed the gear to parking and turned off the engine.

Leaking head gasket-car began making intermittent clicking noise. Dealer checked and said nothing to worry about-probably loose fuel pump. They tightened that. Still noise. Took it back-"oops" it's a leaking head gasket they said had been defective since manufacture. Had i continued to drive i could have experienced complete engine failure at any speed.

I own a 2006 toyota camry.recently the speakers sounded horrible.when i went to check them i noticed the speaker covers in the rear window were crumbling and falling onto the tops of the speakers.after i researched this issue i found hundreds of other people who owned camrys of various years who all have the same problem.toyota's resolution is to replace the entire back panel for a cost of $700 that includes labor.these are $30 speaker covers that could be replaced for less than $75 installed.with the numerous cases reported on the internet with hundreds of people having the same problem they should be recalled or come up with a viable solution that isn't $700.

I contacted toyota after hearing about the incidents involving the floor mats with their toyota camry vehicles. I purchased a 2006 toyota camry (used) in january of 2007. When i explained to the representative at toyota that my floor mat on the driver's side moves involuntarily under both the brake and gas pedal, he asked me if i had the mat anchored correctly. I explained that there was no anchor in the carpeting or a hole where there may have been one. I further advised there was no hole in the mat for an anchor. The rep sounded surprised at this and took down my information. The rep told me that i shouldhear back from toyota and to remove my mats at this time due to the recent safety issues. I never heard back from toyota and there has been no update on this site as to whether or not there was a recall for missing mat anchors on the carpets.

The 2006 toyota camry uses the high beam headlamps for daytime running lights.the configuration of the lamp assembly places the turn signals immediately inboard of the drls. According to fmvss 108, s 5.5.11(a).4:"if not optically combined with a turn signal lamp, is located so that the distance from its lighted edge to the optical center of the nearest turn signal lamp is not less than 100 mm"the drl implementation on the 2006 camry appears to be in violation of this standard.a qualitative observation of the camry at an intersection shows that the turn signal is significantly masked by the adjacent high beam drls.nhtsa issued a recall for a similar problem with the toyota celica a few years ago:nhtsa campaign id number : 04v566000 recall date : nov 23, 2004recommended action of nhtsa: investigate compliance of 2006 camry drls with spec in no. 108 and issue recall if camry is non-compliant.recommended action of toyota: if defective, disable all drl functionality.the benefits of drls are not proven, and drls are not required in the us.

My mother has a 2006 toyota camry. At night, i noticed her driving without her headlights on. I stopped her, and we got her headlights on. Later, i was driving her camry at night, and i noticed the instrument lights were on, but the headlights were off. The only setting to get the headlights on turned off the instruments lights. This is a dangerous situation. I went to the huntsville toyota dealership. A mechanic jiggled the switch, and everything went back to normal. It is obvious the toyota mechanics know about this problem and know how to fix it. Now, i have to worry everytime i or my mom drive the camry that we don't jiggle the switch to cause the above problem. It is a major inconvenience and a safety hazard because one day we may forget and accidentally jiggle the switch and drive at night with the instruments light on and the headlights off. The headlight switch must be recalled!!!!

The contact owns a 2006 toyota camry. The contact stated that when driving 45 mph and above or when attempting a turn, the vehicle would exhibit an abnormally loud noise. The vehicle was inspected by an independent mechanic and they advised her to replace the steering knuckle and wheel. The vehicle was repaired. The vehicle was inspected by an independent mechanic and they advised her that they would have to clean the headlight cover with a special chemical. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and offered no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 63,000.

Brake lamp failures for 2002-2006 toyota camrys.since 2002, i've seen hundreds of these models with burned out brake lights.just today on my way to work, i spotted three.one only had it's third brake light working and it was very dangerous when coming to a stop!toyota needs to address this widespread problem.these newer vehicles should not be burning though lights at this level. This is a serious hazard to public safety.

Dt*:the contact stated the turn signals disengage only when the steering wheel is turned at least 170 degrees.the vehicle has been to the dealership.the dealership and manufacturer determined this is how the vehicle was manufactured. Updated 4/6/2006 -

Directional signal tone is very low and extremely difficult to hear. Dealer tells me that there is no way to increase the volume. Safety issue is with the fact that it is very easy to leave the signal on if you do not make a wide turn. This distracts other drivers who are expecting you to make a turn. I realize that the signal flashes on the dashboard but it is not always easy to spot when you are driving in heavy traffic. Updated 01/09/08. *ljupdated 12/12/07

When the vehicle was started and placed in reverse the engine accelerated. Not being sure what was going on with the car, i kept substantial pressure on the brake and put transmission into neutral. When i did the engine speed proceeded to run away. I quickly just turned the ignition off. I placed the transmission into park, and restarted the engine, and it ran normally thereafter.there have been numerous times in the past year when the engine surged momentarily when the brake was applied, but it was momentary, and not thought significant. These events occurred when slowing to a stop or parking. This most recent and significant event occurred after a short trip, approx. 10 miles. The car had been parked for about 30 minutes. Weather was clear and temperature in the 70's. It is a 4 cylinder camry, 2006 with about 155k miles. The car has not had any modifications or major repairs.

2006 camry problem 1:-- symptom: when filling up the tank and setting the gas pump handle to automatically fill the tank, (i.e., setting the switch on the handle), cannot be done (the pump switch pops). (this problem repeated at multiple different stations over several consecutive fill-ups.) after a diagnostic, the dealer said the canister needs to be replaced.another gas station attendant said this was a common problem on many late model camrys (his station is down the block from a dealer so he says he has seen a few of these), caused when the tank is overfilled and flooding gas into the canister, ruining it, and ultimately causing the fill-up problems described above. Its scheduled to be fixed tomorrow, but wondering if this is a design/product defect, that will reoccur in the future (esp after the warranty ends.) please do not advise to not overfill the tank, for 2 reasons: 1) i live in nj, where only station attendants are legally allowed to fill the tank, so i have little/no control over it.2) this should not ever be a problem, in general, even if the tank is overfilled and gas gushes onto the ground.problem 2:windshield constantly fogs up;need to use defroster in all types of weather, esp raining.i had this problem on my 84 corolla;big pain.problem 3:somewhat jerky ride, noticed when coasting to a stop, at approx 5-15 mph, then the traffic light turns green, andstart to press the gas, the car jerks and lunges;seems to me that its trying to find the right gear, then it does, and this happens.thought the problem was me, but other drivers of my car noticed the same thing.dealer said that the car is programmed to adjust to the driver's habits (computers!!), and may be confused when drivers change, exhibiting this problem.

Unintended acceleration not caused by the accelerator at least a dozen times over the 2 years i owned the car. The first time was about a month after i bought the car used. As i entered my garage at a creep, i felt the transmission drop into the lowest gear then the car leaped forward. My foot was off the accelerator and poised over the brake petal as i was almost in my parking position. Shortly thereafter, i took car to the t. Dealer who reprogrammed the transmission. Similar sudden acceleration in several scenarios occurred at least a dozen times over the next 2 years at low speeds. Each time the sudden acceleration occurred instantly when the transmission dropped from a higher gear into a lower gear. I am a back yard mechanic and have been driving for over 50 years. I feel that one of two things could be wrong. 1. The wrong transmission oil was used. Of the 4 vehicles i have had here, the camry was the only one which would climb over a one inch edge at the garage entrance without using the accelerator. The camry did not have much transmission slip which could be a design fault or more probably an oil with the wrong slip characteristics. 2. The transmission lock-up that comes on in overdrive was malfunctioning.

Takata recall. This car was never recalled by the local toyota dealer. Air bags failed to deploy in a one car accident. Camry went around a traffic circle and unexpectedly accelerated. The car hit a curb and hit a mid size tree. The tree was destroyed and the car totaled. The car was on a city street when the accident occurred and the air bags failed to deploy. The owner of the car had to go to the hospital for treatment.

I have late toyota camry v6 with the similar to case #10348638 problems - a sluggish accelerator response though not related to stops. I noticed is on the second day after i bought a new car, brought it to a dealership service dept, was told that "a computer needs to adjust to my way of driving". Brought it again after a couple of years, no problem found. It does not happen all the time, but almost every day. I found it very annoying and dangerous when it happens.

I have a late 2006 toyota camry with a delayed accelerator response.the accelerator pedal requires more pressure input from the foot to get an acceleration response from the car.when starting out or making a turn from a stop, the vehicle has a noticeable lag in response to a slow throw input response often times requiring more force.

Car hesitates when shifting gears, has done it since new only gotten a bit worse now that it is older.apparently this has been a problem with these cars so why has there not been a recall and why hasnt toyota fixed it?

I was easing into a parking space in front of a bank and was nearly stopped when my car suddenly surged forward. With a full plate glass window in front of me, i wrenched the steering wheel as fast andas far to the right as possible and don't know how i missed the concrete pillari then saw immediately in front of me.the next thing i knew i was in the driveway i had just used to enter the parking lot in front of the bank.i then pulled back into the parking space i had just left and got out to figure out what had happened and to seeif i had caused any damage. The only real damage was a light on the lawn i had evidently knocked loose from its base and tire tracks in the grass. The only damage to my car was underneath where a screw holding some plastic parts together was lost.i am afraid to drive my car because if this happens again, i may not be so lucky; people may get killed and property may be badly damaged.

"takata recall" at the beginning of your complaint description below, i purchased this used vehicle from a buy here pay here lot believing it would be a safe vehicle for me and my family ihave been driving this car for a few weeks now and notice jerking/shifting issues while driving in motion acceleration both city and highways while turning etc., component parts or system unknown, i believe this to be a safety issue/problem for me as the owner of this vehicle, thank you!

Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)toyota acceleration complaint march 24, 2010 odi number 10321792.safety issue - 2006 toyota camry le on going problem - the vehicle's engine will rev up and lurch forward while at a dead stop.engine will accelerate and lurch forward on its own.sensation appears as if there is another vehicle directly behind ours pushing it.engine is specifications up to standards.it manifests at all speeds, but more noticeable at low speeds and at stops.my wife was stopped and idling at a traffic stop sign on east vestal facing eastbound at and the intersection of pleasanton road here in san antonio, texas.she was waiting to make a right hand turn onto northbound pleasanton road.while she was stopped a northbound bicyclist traveling on the sidewalk to her left began crossing the street.he was riding upon his bike and when his bike was right in front of the vehicle the automobile lurched forward and knocked him down.my wife had her foot on the brake however; this incident occurred very quickly that she could not react fast enough to prevent the automobile from hitting the bicyclist.the bicyclist assured my wife that he was not injured.he had checked his bicycle and it was not damaged and that the police did not need to be called.the accident so upset my wife that she ended going back home and not going to work that day.the contacted the toyota service technician assured us that this activity was normal for toyotas.this is why i am reporting this problem.this problem needs to be surfaced and addressed. I am sure that there are other toyota camry owners that are suffering from the same problem as we are. I have today contacted toyota corporation here in the united states and the company has not addressed my concern or even acknowledges receiving my complaint.the bottom line is that i want this problems fixed.thank you for your attention. I have a 2006 toyota camry which died when driving to work on friday 6/26/09. I was in a curve at 45 mph and the steering became very stiff and the engine died and all the warning lights came on. I was trying to pass a cyclist and nearly hit a gravel truck and the cyclist when trying to steer the car off the road and stop it.

06/07 camry v6 and 07 avalon have a 1 second delay or longer on acceleration.i feel this delay is very dangerous. This occurs at any speed and is dangerous because you press on accelerator farther down than required because of the delay and the car lurches forward after the delay.my dealer says all 5 speed auto transmission cars for toyota have this delay and they cannot fix it.my dealer is not disclosing this to customers but will gladly address this if asked.my dealer has agreed to replace my 06 camry with an 07 because i feel the 80 hp more on the 07 and more air bags are better than the 06.the delay is also on the 07 camry v6.

4 cylinder automatic transmission console shifter mechanism is supposed to lock when placed into park.safety lock should not release shifter from park unless the key is in the ignition, and the brake pedal and release button on shifter are both depressed.on my car, the shifter will come out of park just by moving it, whether or not the key is in the ignition, and whether or not the brake pedal and/or the release button are depressed.i pulled off the trim cover over the mechanism and found that the white plastic part that rotates over the lock pin had over-rotated so that the lock pin missed its entry into the slot.i returned it to its original position and the mechanism appeared to function properly again.however, about a week later the problem has re-occurred so i think it will require new parts.obvious safety issue: transmission can be knocked out of park at any time.

I noticed is on the second day after i bought a new car, brought it to a dealership service dept, was told that "a computer needs to adjust to my way of driving". A coin was easily lodged between the plastic covering of the shifter and the console.the coin easily worked its way down into the shifter mechanism. The plastic covering came out of itstrack and began to buckle. The buckling of the plastic covering led to inability to shift gears easily and timely. Eventually, the buckling became so intense, the plastic covering independently shifted the gears from drive to neutral twice while on the interstate. To be able to drive the car and shift gears without constant undo pressure from the buckling plastic cover, the driver would need to pull the plastic covering out completely, exposing the shifting mechanism to other objects and liquids---the plastic covering sits immediately in front of the drink holders. I reported the problem to toyota. At the local and national level, toyota does not view this as a safety issue.

My 2006 toyota camry se is experiencing throttle & shift lag. I've tried merging into traffic only to have my vehicle not respond. The crazy revving from the vehicle not shifting correctly is also causing a substantial decrease in fuel economy (from 24 mpg to 18 mpg). Toyota has no fix at this time.

The front passenger seat belt gets tangled whenever it is pulled out in order to buckle when someone is sitting in the passenger seat. This does not happen to the driver's side, but only the passenger's side. You then have to move the adjustable slide for the seat belt on the side of the car up and down repeatedly in order to get the seat belt untangled in order to use it properly. This has happened since i purchased the car used in january of 2007.

The seat belt is folded over in the passenger side door pillar and i cannot free it. This has happened on both front seat belts in the past and i was always able to free it.vehicle was parked and in my driveway.

Front end collision with 2006 toyota camera.40-45 mph crash. Seat belt failed to fire. Airbags did not deploy.engineering analysis confirmed that seat belts did not fire, air bags failed to deploy, torn-defective air bag sensor.research indicated there was a recall on this air-bag system for toyota camera's 2006 model but was never notified. Need government agency to analyze computer codes. Refuse to turn over computer to toyota.car totaled...

Rear seat buckle does not latch on to the belt clip. Cannot buckle the child car seat on that side.

The driver's seat belt does not retract.it folds and jams the mechanism.we have pulled and pulled and sometimes it does unfold, but more often than not we have the belt snapped in, but it is not doing it's job because it is completely pulled out and way too big.

We have a 2006 toyota camry.we just have an instances that when the driver exits the car and the seat belt starts to retract it twists and get stuck in the guide. My wife is unable to get it untwisted and has to drive it with the belt loose and useless. This is obviously and unsafe condition and i feel a cause for a recall

The front passenger seat belt gets tangled whenever it is pulled out in order to buckle when someone is sitting in the passenger seat. This does not happen on the driver's side. Normally you have to move the adjustable slide for the seat belt oh the side of the car up and down repeatedly in order to get the seat belt entangled in order to use it properly. It has now become fully extended and will not retract at all making it unusable. I bought the car used in 2011 and it has been happening since then.

2006 toyota camry seatbelt leaves white film on clothing.

Air bag light came on intermittently for weeks before coming on in february 2015.thinking it was not urgent, i took the car into the dealership and they ran the code. They informed me that the air bag computer sensor had failed which was located in the passenger seat and had to be replaced, totally $3300 for parts.air bags may not deploy properly or deploy unexpectedly until fixed.expensive repair for car nearing end of its life.

Passenger airbag sensoron now and the wheels grind after brake changeand highway rides are unsafe always has been just my wife doesn't feel safe driving it

I had my foot on brake and was putting into reverse to back into a parking space when suddenly it lurched forward and hit an escalade that was parked about one foot in front of me.it totaled my car and her car.it was so sudden i don't know if it went into reverse or not.i believe the only thing that stopped me was the impact with suv.this was reported to toyota, i am waiting for an inspection of vechicle.

In an attempt to park the car in a parking lot, the care accelerated unintentionally and jumped on to the curb and crashed into a trunk a tree. The car was totaled. Driver lightly injured.

Hi nhtsa, seems like our 2006 toyota camry vehicle has persistent ineffective brake booster problem for few years. We have changed the break master cylinder assembly recently and even after the repair, vehicle doesn't stop within safe stopping distance, the root cause seems to be stemming from ineffective booster. Apparently brake booster system supposed to last life time of the car cause of expensive parts and labor amounting to almost 5% of the actual cost of car. I would like to request nhtsa to reach out to toyota corporation and have all the faulty brake booster systems be repaired on all make and models of toyota at free of cost to the customer.very respectfully,-[xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

I was driving on the free way, suddenly many lights came on like abs, engine check, brake and more. Meanwhile cluster went brighter and gauges went crazy. So i pulled over and got off from free way. Not car went more crazy. Speedometer show zero and brake applies by itself like emergency brake. So i am pregnant and scared . So i left the car b y the street and went home. It happened just today in the morning. I am living in zip 91367. Please advice and help.

I do not know the exact details of the entire accident, as we did not yet meet the new family, but it took the life of my grandchild. She was not driving her boyfriend was. It was his mothers vehicle and it happened in another state. Las vegas, nevada. The cause listed in the accident report was a fault of the vehicle. He was following his sisters vehicle, as they just arrived in vegas and was visiting his family. The car accelerated unexpectedly and hit his sisters car then flew into a wall. His mother was killed and my granddaughter instantly.i would like to see a change in the way these recalls are dealt with. I'm just going through any venue i can to get it done. These cars should be flagged "do not register" by department of motor vehicles until the parts are repaired. If i don't smog a vehicle i cannot drive it. Make it that way for all recalled vehicles. Work with the car companies to get this done before more children, families die. Please.

While on the street as i was backing my car into a parking space adjacent to the street curb the car suddenly accelerated in reverse at high speed, crashing over the curb and sidewalk, rear end first. My stepping on the brakes in an attempt to stop the car was unsuccessful; the car did not come to a stop until it crashed into an iron fence which bordered the yard causing damage to the fence and the car.a similar incident occurred quite a few years ago when the same car suddenly accelerated in reverse out of control and i was unable to bring it to a halt until it hit a parked car.i do not know what caused either of these incidents to occur.

The contact owned a used 2006 toyota camry. While driving low speeds, the vehicle accelerated independently without warning and the brake pedal failed to operate. As a result, the contact's vehicle crashed head on into a pole. The air bags did not deploy. The contact was leaving a hospital when the failure occurred and was treated at the same hospital for a cracked cervical spine, a cracked jaw, and a cracked tooth. A police report was not filed. The vehicle was totaled and towed to a tow yard. The cause of the failure was not determined. The dealer and manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 149,000. *tp

2006 toyota camry xlewhen you apply the brakes suddenly, they caught and then release and caught again.we have taken it back to the toyota dealer where it bought three times and they said it was the computer.they said it was fixed but it is still happening.the dealer is checkered flag in virginia beach, va.we have the paper on the repairs.

When i pressed on my brakes while turning into a store ront my car would not stop. My car ran into the storefront.

I have a 2006 toyota camry.when driving over small bumps in the road, speedbumps, potholes, especially at speeds over 45-55 mph, there is a grinding noise that comes from the front left wheel that sounds like metal-on-metal such as something grinding on the rotor, almost like the wheel is coming off.when this sound occurs, the brakes do not work - when the brakes are applied, you get a grinding noise such as the noise you would get when your brakes are so low that it begins grinding on the rotor.i told the dealer about this problem approximately 1-2 weeks ago and i had my brakes replaced, but the problem is still occurring.this is a huge safety threat as i have to get off of the interstate because the stopping ability of the car was severely compromised.the problem occurs at high speeds when driving over extremely minor bumps.the dealership states that nothing is wrong with the car.

I have constantly complained to toyota dealers regarding the anti-lock brakes on my 2006 toyota.it takes the car a longer time to stop when the brakes are skipping.it can happen on dry or wet surfaces, on hills or on flat surfaces.i have been told the brakes are good, that the abs on my car are normal and one toyota dealer repair technician said he did not like the abs either.no incidents have occurred, however, the car is making me more nervous as the continuous reports of problems with toyota car pour in.

2006 toyota camry -1.while braking on surfaces that are uneven, bumpy or containing potholes my brakes don't hold.2.anytime i brake on any of these surfaces.occurs during any rate of speed (low/high).i try to avoid braking on these surfaces.3.nothing has been done to correct the issue.toyota dealership has told meme it is a normal function of the anti-locking system.

-the contact has a 2006 toyota camry . The contact stated that when she applied the brake at about 25 mph the vehicle would accelerate about a twenyth of a mile before slowing down. The contact tookthe vehicle to the dealer several times, but they have been unable to find a problem. The contact stated that only once wet weather may have been a factor when this problem has occurred.updated 03/07/17.

There is an apparent engineering design defect of the anti-lock brakes on the 2006 toyota camry when a minor impact with a deer completely wipes out the braking system. After impact with the deer, use of the brake sent the car into an uncontrollable sideways slide. Utilizing every defensive driving technique i could, i recovered the car to a forward path only to touch the brake again and go back into the sideways slide. After three failed attempts to stop the car the fourth brake attempt sent the car into a spin out and slung it into the ditch. The damage from this impact totaled the car and was a near death experience for the driver. It appears that the wiring for the anti-lock brake system is in the wheel wells and vulnerable to major damage with a minor impact. A better protection of the wiring needs to be addressed.the impact with the deer must have shorted the wiring to the anti-lock brakes. The day after the accident, when i went to remove my belongings from the vehicle, it was extremely hot to the touch both inside and out even though the temp was in the 30's. I was afraid it was going to go up in flames at any moment. We had to disconnect the battery to prevent that from happening. Please utilize this information to help avoid this situation in the future. Had there been any other vehicular traffic that night i probably would not have survived that incident and with out some prior snow and ice driving experience, i would have been in the trees with the first slide.

I bought my 2006 camry in october 2005 and have been complaining to claremont toyota, the dealership where i bought the car, of the sudden acceleration and braking problem since about 2006. It's an intermittent problem that i have had to deal with since i bought this car. My complaints have been that the brake pedal drops to the floor and then the car accelerates forward and that the car accelerates on its own. The service writers have dismissed my complaints and given many excuses such as: when i left the car there to have them check out the problem they said that the problem could not be repeated so the car was fine, another time i was told that the new cars have abs brakes that drop down to the floor, and at a different time they said that with these new cars the rear brakes had to be adjusted at every oil change and etc. There was an incident in 2006 when i was at a stop and some pedestrians were walking across the street. The car did stop but all of the sudden the brake pedal hit the floor and the car started to move forward. I had to pump the brake pedal a few times in order for it work again. Thankfully the pedestrians had not passed infront of my car yet. I don't remember the specific date but i do know it was in 2006.on 2/20/2010 i had my husband take the car to get an oil change at claremont toyota. I had my husband take the car because i do not want to lied to or given another excuse because i don't know much about cars. My husband mentioned the problem about the brake pedal going down to the floor and sometimes having to downshift or use the parking brake to slow down the car and was told that this condition exists due to the abs system sensing the rotation of the tires and that the car would eventually stop. My husband then mentioned what we had been told about the rear brakes and the service writer grinned and said that the brakes do not need adjustment. I do not feel safe driving this car because it feels as if it has a mind of its own.

I am concerned that my 2006 toyota camry is not on the recall list. While reversing out of a parking place the vehicle accelerated and crashed into a tree then surged forward at a high rate of speed back into the parking area with trees that i had reversed out of.my foot was firmlyon the brake but the vehicles engine revved and surged back throughthe trees.impact with tree on left drivers side first then vehicle slammed into tree on the right side.there is no time to react to this type of deadlyspeed acceleration. When my vehicle did come to a stop it was in neutral.the damage to the vehiclewas $4,300, my insurance doubled and i am lucky to be alive and that i didn't kill someonein the parking lot.toyota has no recall for 2006 camry but i have counted 50 to 60 plus complaints on this site alone under brakes, ignition, acceleration etc. Toyota says i will have to pay for the repair which is totally unfair. My vehicle has depreciated quickly in value because of this defect, the accident, and used parts being used in the accident repair. I feel as if i am taking a chance with my life and the life of my child each time i drive this car.you cannot get the car into neutral fast enough to avoid a crash.this is deadly safety issue.

The contact owns a 2006 toyota camry.the dealer stated that the vehicle's front brakes were out of round and caused the vehicle to pulsate.the dealer resurfaced the front rotors and sanded the front brake pads.while driving 40 mph under normal driving conditions, the vehicle suddenly accelerated and failed to stop.the contact was unable to steer the vehicle and crashed into a cement wall.the driver suffered bruises on both legs, a hand, and chest.the vehicle was destroyed and towed.the current and failure mileages were 5,637.the consumer provided correspondence letters from toyota, amended accident report, vehicle description via web, and extended warranty information. Driving at slow speed. Tried to slow at an intersection and when i hit brakes, the car unexpectedly accelerated and i narrowly avoided a head on crash!

There is a delay between pressing the brake and braking action.this condition has existed since i purchased the car.the dealer keeps telling me that the car is okay, there is nothing wrong with it.

The contact owns a 2006 toyota camry. She stated when depressing the brake pedal, the brakes would hesitate to engage and would feel spongy causing her to use extreme force when braking. This would occur frequently and the vehicle was taken to the dealer where they confirmed that the brakes were not engaging as designed. The master cylinder was replaced under the factory warranty but did not correct the failure. The manufacturer sent a representative to investigate the vehicle and stated that there were no failures within the brake system. On a separate occasion, while driving at speeds of approximately 70 mph, the vehicle began to abnormally accelerate. Shedepressed the brakes and the vehicle immediately decreased in speed. The dealer was contacted and stated that her year, make and model were not associated with therecall. The failure persisted and no repairs were made to the vehicle. The failure mileage was unknown and the current was 95,000. Updated 6/21/10 when the consumer went to the dealer, they found air in the brake system. The second time she went for the same problem, they found the master cylinder was bad and replaced it.updated 06/24/10.

I was traveling at 70 mph on the 210 east near pasadena, california, and under normal driving condition, the vehicle?s brakes failed near the mountain street exit.my immediate reaction was to use the hand brake, after which i pumped the brake pedal in an attempt to restore the mechanism.i was unsuccessful in doing so. Turning on the emergency lights, i traveled for about 2 miles, going through a tunnel, and took the first exit, lake avenue, off the freeway. I left vehicle at a friend?s place close to the exit. While attempting to restore the brakes all along, the car finally did stop on a side street near the exit. I was transporting three adults and a child in the car at this time. The vehicle was not involved in a crash, and accordingly there were no deaths or injuries. This is the first occurrence of an incident of this nature. I am the first owner of the vehicle. The vehicle was purchased from frontier toyota in valencia, california.acting on the advice of the service representation at frontier toyota, who indicated that the vehicle had a warranty on it that would cover the towing, i had the vehicle towed to the dealership.upon inspection, i was informed that the warranty would not cover the towing, and that the towing charges of $264.00 had to be paid for the vehicle to be released. The vehicle was later inspected, and the brakes were certified as ?in good condition? by a mechanic at frontier toyota. The mechanic?s records that were furnished by the dealership indicated that the brakes had work done on them. The mechanic certified that the brakes pads were good, without addressing the inherent problem that exists with the entire breaking system. The breaks, as i experienced it while driving probably had an air leak in the pedal. I was extremely disappointed in the service provided at the dealership, and the basic overall performance of the vehicle.

I have a 2006 toyota camry. The car would not stop sometimes when the brakes are applied. I had the problem in november 2006 at 5,055 miles and took it to the delaer in kent oh (toyota case # [xxx] ). I was told there is nothing wrong. I again had the problem in september 2008 at 15,092 miles and took it to a dealer in north charleston sc (toyota case # [xxx] ). I was told there is nothing wrong. Today 04/14/2010 the car did not stop again and i have called toyota. Case number is [xxx] .information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Toyota camry 2006 model purchased 2/28/2006:could it be that this model was also brake or acceleration defective?my wife tried to park the car but it did not stop. It mounted the curb, drove over our lawn, continued toward a ditch when she managed to steer it to a tree which it knocked down. She continued to another street, went down the curb and regained control. Our neighbors saw it and carried her home. She was clearly confused and never drove the repaired car again. Subsequently had a severe partially disabling cerebral brain hemorrhage. Ambulance. Local hospital could not treat it and she was picked up by a ny presbyterian ambulance. Was taken toneuroscienceoperationicu. After 1 month in hospital and 3 months rehab is back home but definitely impaired. We only a few days realized this might be part of the toyota camry problem. Thank you.

The contact owns a 2006 toyota camry.the contact stated that the brake pedal was very soft and similar to stepping on a sponge.he stated that there was no resistance in the brakes and the pedal has to be depressed all the way to the floorboard for the vehicle to stop.the toyota dealer stated that this was a normal occurrence.the dealer later repaired the brake pedal for free so that there would be a little more resistance.the failure mileage was 3 and current mileage was 5,000. My car 2006 toyota camry had sudden accelerate from stopped position at a yield and hit the car in front though damage to the front car was not significant. I still could not figured it out why this would have happened since i drive carefully. No other accident on the record since i started driving from 2003. It happened around 9am on my daily route to workplace. Recently i heard about toyota recalls for camry 2007 to 2010. But i am not sure if my car also have similar problem. Once i visited to service center after the incident for regular service then they mentioned that my car's brake & gas pedals need clean-up or i have to get it replaced. Since they told little higher amount i told no for repair. I am not sure if my toyota camry 2006 too have the problems described in recall. I have incident reported with my insurer and can provide claim number, documents, insurer info etc as required. There were no charges paid to any vehicle in this minor incident till now but insurer has kept this incident open till now if other party makes new claims. I still think why my vehicle had sudden acceleration so thought to report this incident with dot.

The contact owns a 2006 toyota camry. She has experiencing the same failure as the toyota prius regarding the brakes while driving 20 mph. Whenever she drove over a bump or encountered a potholethe brakes failed to engage immediately. She experienced the failure several times since the vehicle was purchased, but she thought it was driver error. She is concerned about the safety risk involving her year, make and model vehicle. She will take the vehicle to the dealer to be diagnosed. The failure mileage was 2,000 and the current mileage was 70,000.

I have a 2006 toyota camry with 1700 miles on it. I had problems with the brakes 3 times and have had the car only 8 months. When i try to stop it seems the engine races and the brakes won't stop the car. The first time i went through a stop sign. The second time i was pulling out of a parking lot and the car kept going and was almost hit by a semi-truck. The third time i was stopping for a light and the car sped up. I had my foot on the brakes so i put it in park but it didn't stop and i rear ended a van. The police would not let me drive the car home. Oak lawn toyota said i had to have the car towed to my house for them to come out and inspect it. They just wanted me to pay the $300 fee.toyota came to the dealer to inspect it over 3 weeks ago and i still haven't heard anything. I am afraid to drive the car. I only drive it when i have to take my 90 year old father to the grocery store.

I have a problem on my 2006 camry le. Almost had an accident.the brake pedal goes all the way almost to the floorboard before the car slows down or stops. Weak brakes.

I am writing to inform you of a dissatisfactory experience i had with toyota.recently, my wife and i were driving and had a very unfortunate experience. While driving at full speed, we were hit from the back.at that point, the car immediately lost control.imagine our surprise by being stuck in a car over which we had absolutely no power. We tried to stop in just about every way possible.my first instinct was to step on the brakes.i did so, as hard as i could, but with no success. Apparently, the brakes failed. I still kept trying, but they would not work.basically, my wife and i were trapped in a car going at a fast speed with absolutely no way to stop. It was a very scary situation ,and we feared for our lives.we consider ourselves very lucky as the situation could have definitely been a lot worse. Itwas a good thing that there were no cars or pedestrians that got in our way.we had no idea what to do. We continued trying to get the car to stop byputtingthe car into park and pulling the emergency brake, but neither of these methods worked. With such a reputable company like toyota, i would imagine that the carswere designed to handle situations of high stress like this one. My wife and i luckily managed to get out safely.somehow we managed to maneuver the car to side, but unfortunately it landedin a ditch, and the car was totally wrecked. Just a few feet from where we landed was a tree and we were fortunate the car stopped when it did. It was a terrifying situation. It wasshameful that a car from such a reputable company could put us through such a terrible ordeal. I never would have imagined anything like this would happen.i cannot even begin to describe how unhappy i am. I do not have the same faith in toyota cars as i once did.i just wanted to make you aware of the situation.i appreciate your time.

I have noticed my 2006 camry xle has not stopped as quickly as the 1995 v6 camry i previously owned. The instance this has been most dangerous is when i had 3 grandchildren in the back of my car and a passenger in the front. I applied brakes while going about 45 mph behind a flatbed truck. The brakes did not stop the quickly enough, and we almost ran into the back of the vehicle. Also, if i try to stop quickly at a yellow light, the car cannot stop quickly enough. I end up either in the middle of the intersection or running a light to avoid being hit. The car only has 1250 miles.

Dt*:the contact stated at various speeds while depressing the brake pedal there was excessive braking distance resulting in two rear end collisions.the first occurrence caused injuries to the other driver and a police report was taken.the vehicle was towed to a body shop each time for repairs.the dealer was not able to duplicate the problem.

When i pressed on my brakes while turning into a store ront my car would not stop. My car ran into the storefront.

The contact owns a 2006 toyota camry.while driving 80 mph, the brakes failed.the contact was forced to apply the emergency brake to stop the vehicle.he stated that he heard a grinding noise prior to the failure.the dealer replaced the front and rear brakes at the contact's expense.the current mileage was 52,400 and failure mileage was 51,840.

The contact owns a 2006 toyota camry.he purchased a new car and in the first two months the brakes failed twice.the dealer statedthat there was nothing that they could do at the time because the vehicle needed to go through arbitration.a representative stated that the brake failure was due to the design. The first representative stated that if the brakes and the gas pedal are depressed at the same time, the brakes will fail.he has purchased a new vehicle of the same year, make, and the model, and the brake failure is identical.when the brakes failed the engine idled to 3000+.the representative also advised him to turn the engine off and that should fix the issue.the failure mileage was 6 and the current mileage was 8200.theengine size and full address of the dealer were unknown.the consumer stated after 4 attempts to correct the problem but to no avail. The consumer stated he just wants other consumers to be aware of the defects with this specific vehicle. The consumer provided repair invoices. The consumer was told if the brake pedal and accelerator pedal were applied at hte same time, then the brakes would fail. The consumer stated it was a design flaw.updated 08/07/07

Car constantly pulls to left. Cannot release tension on steering wheel for fear of going off the road. Toyota refuses to acknowledge this problem. Afraid to take on a long trip for fear of driver fatigue.

Well, nothing happened but i believe toyota camry, se, sedan, v6, has a problem with steering rack and pinion drive leak at 90 k. Many camry vehicles have it, according to numerous reports on the web formodels (2001 through whatever, sedans or not). Fixing it costs a fortune, sort of (1200 $ or so). They are selling lemons, and right under your nose ! the nhtsa should wake up for once and get toyota flagged. They (the japanese companies, including takata, - and god knows whatever happened to the so-called zero defect japanese motto) are raking it in and taking the customers for a ride. It is time that nhtsa gets involved and call it for what it is - a recall - and have the company fix the problem. If i wanted this piece of junk, i would have gone for an american car, viz, chevy or gm !!!!!!!

Popping and loose steering while turning, stopping , accelerating or just driving.the failure is the upper intermediate shaft universal joint, the occurrence is constant while driving. The intermediate shaft had to be replaced.

2006 toyota camry'ssteering wheel pulls to the left.***nar***the steering wheel pulls while in curses.the consumer has to hold the steering wheel firmly to maintain control.the vehicle pulls while driving on bumpy roads and more frequently on the highway.sometimes it also pulls while braking.the vehicle seem to always be parked at an angle, although the consumer pulls straight into parking spaces.the steering wheel seems stiff as if there is not enough power steering when making sharp turns.the consumer has also noticed a noise underneath the vehicle when turning into tight spots.

2006 camry, bought new, may, '07. Feel slight clunk with soft sound when turn steering wheel. Dealer diagnosed as bushing/lower control (steering) arm breaking down. Replaced both control arms at cost of $1000+ not including taxes. Car has approx. 70,000 km (43,000 mi), is treated for rust prevention annually (krown) and not driven hard (99%) well paved roads. Normal wear (never experienced anything like this before)?

The noise occurred when turning the steering wheel left or right, at very low speeds. The noise became progressively pronounced at 20,755.

Bought brand new 2006 toyota camry. When you make a right turn , the steering wheel sticks to right even after the turn. The steering wheel doesn't come to normal position quickly. My wife drives the car and never informed me, until i drove it and felt lately. I will call the company and inform them and see if there were similar complaints reported.

2006 toyota 60,000 miles. Needs to have intermediate steering shaft replaced or i won't be able to steer the car soon. Happened to my old 1997 toyota also. Couldn't turn the wheel had no control. Worried this may happen again to this 2006 car. Told by mechanic that it is wear and tear. He only sees it on some toyota not all. If it was wear then why not on all. Sounds like a defect to me. Very costly to replace, $517. This car has been maintained thru toyota dealership on a regular basis, it was bought as a demo car from a dealership with 12000 miles. Something is wrong maybe engineering defect?

The contact owns a 2006 toyota camry. He experienced power steering failure twice while driving 50 to 60 mph. The steering wheel exhibited some resistance. The dealer test drove the vehicle and was not able to duplicate the failure and stated that nothing was wrong with the vehicle. The failure mileage was 40,000. The current mileage was 55,000.

I just bought a used "06 toyota camry for my daughter to commute to college.we are experiencing steering wheel "clunking' and noises behind the steering column and under the car when we make turns and just driving.i took it to my mechanic who performed an inspection on the car.he said that this make and year of the camry are notorious for this problem.true, i should have done more homework.i was gauging my decision on my previous ownership of a camry i had in the 90's.i had no problems with that car.i just went to a website, carcomplaints.com, and seen all the complaints about the same issues about this steering defect, some to the point of the steering wheel locking up while they were driving!over and over i seen these customers took the car back to the dealer or contacted toyota directly and they were afforded no assistance.they were told they should have brought it back before 36, 000 miles, there was no problem that they could find, just real cowardly behavior from the people who could recall these vehicles and fix this persistent safety issue!i am still discovering all the complaints and issues with this steering problem but it seems to be nationwide so why are they not doing anything about this defect?does it have to turn into the same issue with their gas pedals sticking and nearly killing people before they take their heads out of the sand and take responsibility for their poor craftmanship?theyhave just lost me as a future customer but their actions speak louder if they just do the right thing.

2006 toyota camry 4 le steering intermediate shaft noise, company sent technical service bulletin st001-06 dated 02.16.2006 to dealers for replacement under warranty. Owner never made aware of this. I became aware of 'steering knocks' two months ago, while vehicle was still inwarranty (under 36,000 miles). Told by dealers service 'adviser' that this was normal 'play'.now problem worse but replacement refused, because vehicle has 36,700 miles (one month and 700 miles over). Have safety concern if not fixed.

I have a 2006 camry le which has developed a clunking noise in the steering shaft or column somewhere below the steering wheel. Toyota has a service number on it, but will no do anything unless this detect was reported before 36,000 miles.they require you to find their detect it early and if you find it later after 36,000 miles they say that's too bad you are too late. This is just wrong !! they know they have a problem, yet they hope you pass 36,000 miles so they don't have to fix their known defect.

Steering wheel pulls left and right, more frequent on freeway especially going around curves and have to hold wheel firmly.pulls sometimes when braking and driving over small bumps.steering wheel is stiff at times when making sharp turns in tight spaces as if there is no power steering.car wobbles too much when going over small bumps. 8jb

2006 camry steering wheel locked and ignition key refused to turn.

I've got very bad experience with car dealer.i have bought toyota camry 2006 at the end of february 2006. After receiving a new car, i had heard some kind of noise when i drove the car for the first time. At that point, i knew that this kind of noise was normal because my car was brand new. Unfortunately, that noise had got louder time after time, and did not stop. To fix a noise problem on my car, i checked my car to toyota. Toyota found the problem and told me that my car needed to replace a whole transmission. At that time, i could not believe the fact that my new car needed to fix, because my car had got just 500 mileage on it and just passed two weeks after purchasing my car. Furthermore, i felt displeasure and was very upset about their employees' attitude. I wanted to trade in my car with a new another camry. They required me to pay for 7000 dollar more with my old car. I had been waited for more one hour to make deal with one of their employees. At that time, i had felt some kind of discrimination.even worse, this thursday, i also have heard same noise again. To check the noise, i dropped off my car again to the toyota dealership service. Toyota told me that my car had another problem on steering shape at this time. I let him repair it again.until this very day, even though my car was checked twice at the dealership service, i can hear the same noise again.i've known that the quality of toyota is very good and trusted the service.for now, i am so doubt about the toyota and the dealership service. It seems the technicians are not trained to be professional to repair toyota cars or they did not try to check my car.i am wondering if there are any other ways to change my car. Like i mentioned about my car, i would like to change it to the another new car, if possible. I hope that you can help me to solve my car problem.if you have any question, please let me know. Thank you so much.

I have two complaints. The major one is the rear speaker covers. They started in june of 2013 with a small hole. Now there is a large hole and the other one is cracked all across it. I am assuming it is melting.the other is the fabric is coming apart near the rear door curvature toward the back. Regular glue can't be used, it will burn.

My complaint is that the rear speaker covers have crumbled. It started with a crack then a hole. But the cover crumbled as soon as it was touched.

The contact owns a 2006 toyota camry. The contact stated that the dashboard was cracked. The dealer and manufacturer were not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was 120,000.

Dashboardturned sticky and melted in the florida sun. When i touches the dashboard my fingers stick and turn black. I worry every time i gets in the car the melting dashboard could be a safety issue. The dash reflects the sun from the windshield and it causes this reflection so it sometimes becomes hard to see. It's frustrating knowing there's nothing i can do about it.

Our 2007 toyota camry's dashboard is melting.it is very sticky.it has been this way for 6 years.we weren't sure what was wrong at first, because we never saw anything like this before.we bought this car brand new.the sticky dashboard reflects the sun and since we live in florida this is very dangerous.we are also concern about airbags too.is there a recall for this car part?

The contact owns a 2006 toyota camry.the contact stated that the rear window head lining is loose.the side molding is defective and is not properly holding the liner.a report was filed with the manufacturer.the dealer will supply a new head liner and two side panels, but the contact is responsible for the $300 labor charge.the failure and current mileages were 58,000.

Traffic light was green, i entered intersection and hit another vehical broadside. My car received damage to the front bumper, the left front fender, and the right front fender.air bags did not deploy.

Pulling out of hospital parking lot my 2006 toyota camry accerated on its own i tried to brake but the brake failedihit guide rails on th left and then hit a pole that stopped the carthe security from erie county medical center responded placed me in a ambulance and took me to their er i have a crack in my cervical spine and jaw

In an attempt to park the car in a parking lot, the care accelerated unintentionally and jumped on to the curb and crashed into a trunk a tree. The car was totaled. Driver lightly injured.

The contact owns a 2009 toyota camry. While driving 35 mph and making a right turn, there was a loud screeching sound coming from the front passenger side of the vehicle. Also, while making a right turn, there was a loud clicking sound. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the front passenger side cv axle boot and the radiator needed to be replaced. The repairs were done; however, the vehicle still drove roughly and the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 92,000.

My 2006 toyota camry, bought brand new, had only 14,606 miles and driven 5 years and 11 months, when i brought it to the dealer for a new battery.dealer hoisted it and the mechanic told me that the rubber control arm bushings (lower suspension) were tearing and therefore, both left and right side control arms needed replacement. .cost: $988.38 less 10% discount.the rubber bushing flexes up and gown when the control arm moves and is subject to age deterioration and damage from road debris like salt, snow, etc.the bushing is only partially shielded by the car frame. If the bushing tears more, the control arm could fall and the car would lose steering ability - a very serious safety issue.i saw the same complaint for another 2006 camry and 1996 camry on the nhtsa web site.i wrote a letter to toyota asking if the rubber bushing on the new replacement control arms i purchased is the same poor quality as the originals.also, are the new 2012 camry's equipped with same shock control arm bushings?i received a letter from toyota in torrance, ca dated 12/12/11 saying they "reviewed and documented" my letter.when i called, the toyota quality assurance center, the lady said she has to first review my complaint letter.after 5 minutes she said she did not know the answer to my questions about the control arm.do not buy any toyota car without first personally inspecting the condition of both control arm bushings together with the mechanic holding a flashlight and mirror, at every oil change.make the same inspection before the 36,000/3 year warranty or 1 year warranty on replacements, expire!any incipient tear is reason for replacement at toyota's cost.a tiny tear shows a latent defect because fracture mechanics says the tear or degradation of the rubber bushings will propagate.updated 04/07/14

Started hearing metal rattling in the front passenger wheel area.took it to a local garage and the mechanic found that a section of the spring around the strut had completely broken off.i did not hit anything or go into a pot hole.the mechanic was very surprised that the spring had broken.

My 2006 toyota camry le seems to have a front end problem.i've tried to have the dealership fix the alignment and balance the tires twice, but nothing has improved.the car doesn't track very well and it tends to vibrate above 60 mph.i don't feel safe driving this vehicle often because it requires constant attention to stay in a straight line.did toyota design or assemble something improperly?

One of thefront springs (part# 48131-aa331) of my wife's 2006 toyota camry broke in two and the dealership recommended replacing both springs. According to the dealership, the sharp edge at the point of breakage could have punctured a tire, if one of the pieces dislodged. The car had only 41,000 miles on it.

Fax fwd ltr (ca) re toyota camry sudden acceleration recall wants 2006 toyota camry to be included in recall notice, reply to brea, ca ofc. *tgw

I was driving in east granby near a fedex delivery truck. This truck kept swerving lanes in order to get around other cars, but he did so by cutting me off multipletimes. He would go to change lanes then swerve back in the original lane, causing me and other cars to need to slam brakes to stay safe. This was also in a school zone in east granby near the center about 3 miles from the bradley airport in ct. The driver kept laughing and smiling at myself and other cars and once i was able to get around him to pass and move on he flipped me off. Delivery drivers should be practicing safe driving especially in a school zone ...

Sudden high acceleration of 2006 camry followed by accident. Car was in park idling while paying for car wash.this happened in a parking lot. When put into drive from stationary position witnesses heard the engine suddenly rev at a high rate. The driver thought the accelerator pedal was stuck. The camry then rocketed across a service road at 40 mph according to police report. The car hit a light pole with the right front wheel as it went up the embankment of an adjacent parking lot. The camry went air born and while in the air hit the side of an escalade, flipped in the air and landed on the roof and a hyundai.

My 2006 automatic camry shift lever will disengage while driving. I have hit the shift lever while driving at high speed (65 mph) by accident and the lever went from drive to neutral. My engine revs were alarming. Worried about blowing my engine. I quickly put my car back into drive (d) and continued. This has happened several times. I was concernedthat my car would slow down and i would be rear ended. With the tailgating trend of today's drivers this isa grave concern to me.has there been any other complaints ? i feel that the lock to change from park to drive shouldwork in all positions so this event will not accure. I feel that this is an accident waiting to happen. This defect should be addressed.

2006 toyota camry airbag light stays on all the time

Pedal acceleration is off. Sometimes it will not go and then suddenly when you press the pedal it jerks. Scar only accelerates when pedal is pressed at a perfect angle

I wasdriving on a familiar rural road at approximately 45 mph. Anticipating slowing down before approaching the village where the speed limit is 30 mph, i took my foot off the accelerator.at the moment i lifted my foot from the pedal, the car suddenly accelerated on its own for about two seconds, and then, again on its own, went back to normal. This is the first and only failure i have experienced while driving this vehicle. I took no remedial action (other than reporting the incident to my husband.)

The accelerator pedal seems to be "sticky" and has been this way since purchase - if you depress the pedal, the car lurches forward and it is difficult to control the speed when in stop and go traffic, especially. This resulted in my car lurching forward (with a light press of the pedal) into the car in front of me. No injuries, but my front bumper was cracked from the impact. There was less than 5 feet in between our cars at the time, but enough force to put the trailer hitch of the car in front of me through the bumper.

Waiting in office driveway to make right turn north on roadway.all of a sudden instead of turning,my car suddenly accelerated extremely fast straight across 4 lanes of north & south traffic.

I was in a parking space when the car took off (with my foot on the brake) and the car went into a brick beam on the outside of a store front.the air bags did not deploy despite the entire front-end of the car is completely caved in.i questioned myself but knew there is no way possible that i could hit the gas and cause that amount of damage.i heard the engine surge before the car ran up thebrick piece on the ground before it went up the sidewalk and hit the brick beam.during the entire accident i tried to stop the car but could not gain control.the ground was dry therefore rain was not an issue.

The contact owns a 2006 toyota camry. The contact stated that when the driver was at a traffic light she noticed that the engine began to rev and lunge forward. She was able to control the vehicle by engaging the brake pedal. A few months later, the issue recurred. The driver was able to control and stop the vehicle from accelerating. I had pulled slowly into a parking space.i had my foot on the brake. I was stopped. I was putting the car into the park position when the car suddenly surge forward at a high rate of speed. My foot was on the brake the entire time. The car went over the cement block into the parking space, jumped over a cement curb onto a grassy center island and finally stopped when i hit a tree.i have pictures of skid marks on the grassy area and the pavement to show that i had my foot on the brake and i was trying to stop the car.the car was totaled, and i sustained bruises from the airbag and the seat belt. I contacted toyota.they sent an engineerto inspect the car. The engineer said that he could not recreate the problem and nothing was wrong with the car. I knew that my foot was on the brake, not the gas pedal.even if it was on the gas pedal, i was parking and certainly would not have stomped on the gas pedal to make the car surge out of control as it did.

Please.

I bought the car on 2012 and it works nice until one day i start it and when i tried to accelerate it simply don't do anything, it remains at idle rpm.the car start to accelerate with the gas pedal nearly on the floor, the problem was that the vehicle accelerate too slow and at an instant it did it too fast (full throttle).

The contact owns a 2006 toyota camry. The contact stated that the driver was attempting to park in a parking lot, when the vehicle suddenly accelerated. The vehicle jumped the curb, moved into the street, and the engine resumed the idle position. The vehicle was driven to its destination as there was no accident that resulted. The contact called the manufacturer who stated that they could offer no assistance as there were no defects found. The current and failure mileages were approximately 53,000.

Car surges (suddenly increases speed) in reverse 10-30 seconds following cold start.this occurs during slow, brake controlled, backing from my home garage.when surge occurs, tachometer goes up a few hundred rpm and i have to quickly apply more pressure to the brakes to keep the car from surging back and going out of control or hitting something.the a/c-heater is not turned on when problem occurs so it does not appear to be the a/c solenoid increasing the engine rpm.the cruise control is off.this condition is very dangerous, especially if you haven't been prepared to expect it.this problem happens every time i start the car cold. I have estimated the number of incidents below and have provided today's date as the latest date of incident.i only have information on this happening in "reverse" because every time i start my car cold, it is in the garage and i have to back out.see also 10295531, same complainant.* dsy

I have toyota camry -2006 model which was bought new in feb 2006. It has approx 32,000 miles on it mostly driven by myself, 37 year man as of today and my wife(31 years)also drives sometimes since last two years.last sunday 01/31/2010 my wife , myself and my two sons were inside car and my wife was driving this car and was stopping car in drive way. We were almost stopped and suddenly it accelerated and my wife was screaming that it is not stopping even she almost standing on brakes. Meantime it hit closed garage door and went inside garage with high speed. Right mirror went inside the garage wall and finally its car front hit base of gas-water heater and car stopped.windshield was fully damaged, upper hood was bended, right mirror was broken and front of car was also hit but airbag did not pop up because right side mirror could have reduced speed before front hit gas-water heater.big tragedy was avoided because water heater was gas based and it was on. Also right side both doors were touched to wall so cannot be opened. My two sons 2 years and 8 years were inside care and left side back door had child lock so only door can be opened was driver side which my wife was driving and she was scared to death with this incident. Luckily fire did not start and we all were able to come out safely.i called local toyota dealer twice and he refused to listen me saying this car 2006 camry is not part of toyota recall and if you have to report this incident call toyota's corporate number. As of now repair is in progress and i am expecting to get car by end of next week.i would like nhtsa to investigate this type of incident.

On friday, october 4th (2019) i was waiting in line at a red light (on state street at the intersection with haywood roadin asheville, north carolina). Suddenly my toyota 2006 lurched forward and banged into the car ahead of me. I stomped on the brake. The car stopped, then jumped forward again and banged the car ahead of me again. My husband, sitting in the passenger seat, threw the gear shift into 'park' and our car stopped.as i was just waiting in line at the light when the car spontaneously surged forward, we feel this was a case of 'toyota sudden unexpected acceleration.'our insurer has appraised the damage to car at just below $3000. We no longer consider this car safe to drive.our insurer did not require a police report. There were no personal injuries, so police were not called.

The brake does not work every time when i drive the car on rough road such as snow and ice road, and repairing road. I went to toyota dealers trying to solve the problem, but they said that is due to the anti-lock mechanism! this is really dangerous. I drive very slowly when road is rough.

Hesitation problem in 2006 toyota camry. Happens frequently. Failure to be able to accelerate in these situations can result in a rear or side collision from oncoming vehicles, especially during a merge. It happens when backing off on the gas pedal, such as when the car is about to make a turn onto another street, or when gaining on slower traffic on the highway.the rpm go way down as the car slows (by backing off the gas pedal - no brakes applied) to deal with the situation.once the turn is completed, or the traffic in front starts to pull ahead again, the car does not respond to applying the accelerator. It can take from a half second to two full seconds before the car "recognizes" that it is being told to speed up - for it to give more rpm and to pick the right gear to do it in. It seems to be trying to make up its mind which gear to use before it adds enough rpm to accelerate.it's like the rpm went down so low when backing off the gas pedal that the car doesn't know what to do when it's told to get back to work. When it finally responds, the engine usually kicks down one or two gears and starts racing to catch up - like the driver has floored it, without having floored it. The dealership has said they couldn't recreate the problem. Toyota denies the problem exists. Yet it happens every day.i believe both are covering up a problem.

2006 toyota camry. Consumer states unintended acceleration *tgwthe consumers wife was in the process of pulling into a parking space.suddenly, there was a loud roar and the vehicle accelerated out of control, jumped the curb and went airborne until she hit the bottom of a slope and entered the street. My 2006 toyota camry crashed at 6:40pm of dec. 4, 2009. When i was near to exit 65 of highway 26 (beaverton, or), the car in front of me put on brakes. I put on brakes too and the distance between my car and the car in front of me was about 50 meters. Butmy car accelerated until it hit the car in front of me.historically i knew my car automatically accelerated sometimes.but it seems only last for a few seconds when i drove it downhill. Currently toyota's recall only includes camry model after 2007. I think camry 2006 should be investigated too.

When i turn on the engine, my 2006 camry engine does not return to normal idling either at all or not for a long period of time.it doesn't go back to normal idling speed - - the car will continue to roll forward and the brake must be applied to keep it from going forward.

Car has on two occasions, surged forward when my foot was on the brake, making it difficult for me to stop it.

While driving uphill approximately 5 mph and making a right turn into a driveway the vehicle began accelerating over 80 mph and within seconds the vehicle went airborne over a retaining wall and into someone'syard.the tires blew out when the vehicle landed on the ground and the rpms continued to increase until she turned the engine off. She received injuries to the right knee, ankle, cuts and bruises. The insurance company investigated the crash and concluded that the floor mat caused the failure to occur since it was not hooked to the mat. The insurance company also determined that the vehicle was destroyed; however, she sold the vehicle to the salvage yard. Dt*: the contact stated while backing the vehicle out of a parking space, with pressure applied to the accelerator, the pedal pushed down into the floorboard and the vehicle suddenly lurched backwards crashing into a tree.no injuries were sustained, the occupants were wearing seatbelts.the vehicle sustained minor damage.the police were on the scene and a report was taken.the vehicle was towed to the dealer to await inspection by a factory representative.

Car was placed in reverse while stopped to parallel park along curb with steering wheel turned slightly to the right. Car accelerator went full throttle with very little driver input. Driver hard pressed the brake to stop, skids marks of rear tires confirm, car kept accelerating, driver turned to avoid a parked vehicle causing the car to aggressively slide sideways up and over the curb while still accelerating. Driver slapped the shifter into neutral and straightened the wheel. The car straightened out and the momentum carried it forward (rather than reverse from the unintended j turn) colliding into a house. Car mileage approximately 71,000. No floor mats in floorboard, no other debris. Air bags did not deploy. No injuries. First reported incident of accelerator (speed control) malfunction.

2006 toyota camry. Consumer states unintended acceleration *tgwthe consumer stated while riding with her husband, a noise was heard that sounded like a click; similar to the sound of switching on a light that seemed to trigger the unwanted acceleration that immediately followed. Her husband reacted very quickly to get the vehicle under control. He had both feet on the brake pedal which had no effect on stopping the vehicle. The consumer then put the gear into neutral, but to no avail. The last effort was to use the emergency brake and put the vehicle into park. That, along with an uphill grade brought the vehicle to a stop with a ratcheting sound which was believed to be the result of the transmission already in park.updated 10/20/11.

I terminated a lease on a 2006 toyota camry on feb. 28.i only drove it from nov. 1 to jan. 9 when for the third time in those two months it surged ahead when i was parking.the surge was so powerful, that the car flew thru the air and damaged another car in the parking lot. My foot was on the brake.the car suffered $6000 worth of damages.i contacted the dealer to say i would have the damaged car towed to their shop and they said the body had to be repaired before they would check to see why it malfunctioned.i was told that a regional engineer from toyota would inspect the car.i had great hopes that they would find the problem and fix it but the report said there was nothing wrong with the car.of course there is something very wrong when the car will not stop but rather surges ahead when you are braking.they implied that after 45 years of accident free driving , i put my foot on the accelerator instead of the brake. I terminated the lease.but i am very fearful and very perplexed that toyota is unconcerned aboutthe safety of their cars. Toyota must address this problem---it is very wrong to ignore this safety hazard.i am filing this complaint about a car ino longer have becauseit has been sold to an unsuspecting person.the new owner was not told of the problem because they say there is no problem.i don't know how to contact the new owner. I thought the dealer would do the right thing and send the car back to the factory to be fixed.see odi 10155560 also.*dsy

First incident occurred while sitting at a red light. The light turned green, i went to accelerate and pedal was stuck, i attempted to press it again and my car just shot forward very rapidly. Thankfully no one was in front of me. This has occurred several times over the years. Other times, i will be at a constant speed on the interstate and car will begin to accelerate very quickly then fall back down. It has done this while cruise control is on and while my foot is on the pedal. I tried braking, the breaks began to slow me down but the rpms still rose rapidly then fell back to normal several times in a row. It seems several people with my same year model and make have the same issue.

I experienced sudden unintended acceleration in my 2006 toyota camry le,while attempting to park in front of a 7eleven store to pickup my newspaper. I pressed on the brake prior to reaching the cement parking stop, i heard and felt a quick surge from the engine i hit the brake hard but still the car continued to more forward right thru the front doors of the 7eleven the car stopped by a door post.

Deep ditch and coming half way up the other side.

Dt*:the contact stated while driving past a roadside radar check, the display read slower than the speedometer on the vehicle.the dealership determined this was a direct result of the steel wheels; they cause an inaccurate reading with the speedometer.the manufacturer determined the speedometer could be false up to 8 percent, after having a radar test, it was determined the vehicle was off by 9 percent.

The contact owns a 2006 toyota camry. While driving 5 mph into the drive way the vehicle continued to accelerate while her foot was on the brake pedal and the collided into a fence. She was able to stop the vehicle by slamming on the brake pedal. The vehicle was towed to the dealer. The vehicle front end of the vehicle was repaired. She has not experienced the acceleration failure again, but she has noticed that the brakes were slow to respond. The failure mileage was 36,000 and the current mileage 42,000. Updated 3/24/10 after making a left turn, into her driveway at 5-10 mph with her foot on the brake, the vehicle would not slow down.

I am writing about my current car, a toyota 2006 camry, because it relates to an accident i had with my 2005 camry.i am aware that toyota has not recalled the 2006 model.when i start up my 2006 camry after it has been in park, with the engine off, for as little as a 5 minute stop or overnight in the garage, when i shift into drive and release my foot from the brake, the car moves by itself, fairly rapidly, without my foot touching the accelerator.after about 3/4 of a mile along the road during which i alternately apply the brake and lift my foot from it, still not touching the accelerator, the car finally begins to operate normally requiring for the first moment some pressure on the accelerator.when i return home, regardless of how far or long i have driven, after pausing to open the garage door (by remote) i ease my foot from the brake pedal and the car glides into the garage on is own.while i am able to control the car safely so far i am uncomfortable with the situationbecause i had a major accident with my 2005 camry in august, 2006.it happened as i emerged from a car wash.when i shifted into drive from neutral, the car accelerated itself and stuck in high speed, at least 80 miles per hour.i am sure that i tried to stop it by applying the brakes immediately and certainly in the end before i purposely crashed into a tree after a terrifying drive dodging people, cars, and buildings.i survived although sustaining a back injury which necessitated an operation, but the car did not.i did notcommunicate with toyota about it and do not know if my insurance company did. Last week i took my 2006 camry to my toyota dealer and described what is happening with the car and they assured me that this "independent" acceleration is normal and intended by the manufacturer.
