She (woman-worker)told me at dmv office redwood city,ca 94063 appointment # b0039, approx window 9 servicetime2:40pm; that dmv will not change nor update nor to correct records - but the wrongful entry into dmv records makes property owner to suffer with the id cases through law enforcement agencies and other re departments of usa.it affects my personal holdings value and my own financial stability and personal safety - recalls for 2000 are different to recalls of 2001-due to major updates and improvements to the subject car with the approval of judicial court system in 2001 and later. Currently my vehicle is stationed, i am searching for the true answers of the title on my car. 2001 toyota camry was involved in an accident and none of the air bags deployed.*mrwhen the consumer attempted to stop the vehicle abruptly the brake pedal went to the floor and the vehicle did not slow down.as a result the vehicle collided with another vehicle.

Our son rear ended another vehicle at 40 mph and the air bag never went off causing head injuries. He will be ok but would have been better had the bag work.

On january 4, 2002, i was involved in an automobile accident while driving my 2001 camry. A car in front of me (dodge stratus) was stopped waiting to turn left. I was behind the car in a stopped position. Another car (1999 cadillac deville) traveling at about 40 mph hit me from behind forcing my car into the rear of the car in front of me.the car in front of me received damage to trunk and bumper with enough force/damage to cause the trunk to not shut without repair.my question, concern is this: my air bags did not deploy (neither driver or passenger) and according to my owner's manual they should have deployed. Also, the drivers seat was forced into approximately a 45 degree reclining position during the impact and is currently locked into that position. My car had a power driver's seat and should not have collapsed. I am not sure at what point the seat collapsed but the impact must have been significant enough to throw me forward and then back hard enough to cause the seat to fail. As a result i have suffered some back and neck injury as a result of this accident.the manufacturer indicated that the seats were designed to do this but i cannot find anything in the manual, on their site or on the www to this effect.the impact was enough that a big mac in my right hand was thrown against the odometer, down the left side of the car and into the back seat on the windows.a 32 ounce coke was splattered throughout the car into the dash electronics (cd player, tape deck, etc.) and a closed arm rest.the impact seems significant enough to warrant airbag deployment and the fact that the seat back did not provide back support is of great concern to me.at a minimum, if the seats are designed to go back like they did in this situation, the consumer should be aware.

The contact owns a 2001 toyota camry. While driving approximately 15 mph, the driver crashed into a concrete pole. The air bags did not deploy. In an accident where this vehicle rear-ended an explorer at about 30 mph, neither airbag deployed.camry has extensive front-end damage with all front-end systems pushed back into engine and wheels.police at scene wondered why there was no airbag deployment, and towing and fire (medical) personnel used extreme caution until sure the airbag system was in fact disarmed by removal of battery.

Ihad an accident recently with my 2001 toyota camry.my husband also had an accident in the same car a few years back. But both are kind of same scenario. The brakes don't work properly in rain.tried to stop but nothing happened and we rear ended cars before us.

The driver and passenger air bags did not deploy. The insurance company confirmed that the vehicle was destroyed and did not investigate the air bag failure.report number 1001104565 was filed with the manufacturer and were not able to explain at what speed the air bag should deploy. The contact sustained a head injury and the other drivers right knee was injured. The san antonio police report number is 0000326. The failure and the current mileage were 125,000. Updated 03/12/10. *ljupdated 10/08/10

The powdered chemical on the exterior of the airbags caused skin burns when the airbags deployed.this was particularly severe with respect to the driver of the vehicle, who burned, blistered, and has had residual rash and medical treatment for the chemical burns to the chest area, two months after the crash.i have been told that these types of airbag injuries are more typical of the first-generation airbags, but very atypical of airbags that would be installed in a 2001 model vehicle.

My wife had an accident, hitting another car.the airbags in the other car went off, the airbag in our car did not.my wife hit the windshield with her head, cracking the windshield and significantly bruising her head.

I own a 2001 toyota camry le.i have owned the car for approx 11 months.in august my son while leaving the beach claimed the abs breaks locked up causing him to slide into a pole in the parking lot.neither air bag was deployed but there was over 6000 damage.the mechanic said it was a low impact hit ...the car was repaired and breaks checked and said to be working.nowjust 7 months from that accident i was driving in a snow storm and despite my best driving i too experienced the abs breaks actually locking ... On a hill in the snow causing my car to fish tail and all the while gaining speed leaving me with no way to slow down my passenger watch the speedometer go from 15... To 30... To 35 which is when he closed his eyes as i made one last attempt to steer the car straight we went off the road wiping out 2 or 3 small trees, a metal pole luckily there was a rather large rock under the snow that got stuck under the tail end of the car leaving the car "nose" end into the ground.neither air bag deployed once again.the drivers side light was completely torn out, the tires came partially off the rim and the frame is now twisted the impact was defiantly over 30 mph with no air bag deployment.the anti- lock bakes ... Locked and had they not i would not have fishtailed ... This is the second accident my car has had due to the break system.this one totaled my car.which i owe 11,000 on ...

The contact owns a 2001 toyota camry. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the failure was unable to be replicated. The failure occurred on several occasions. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was awaiting diagnostic testing. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 40,000.

My 2001 camry v 6started bucking and speeding and slowing. It turned out to be a speed sensor failure (op code 500).

Speed sensor melted with plug and kept blowing 10a gauge fuse witch gauge stops working windows won't go down and battery will die if not handled and the vehicle was in park this will happen once you turn the key just turn the key the vehicle was not started just the key was turned into the on position then the fuse will automatically pop

The whole instrument panels lights and stereo begin flickering on and off andcuts out the stereo like turning it on and off when this happens. There seems to be no reason or rhyme as to when or why it happens. It has happened numerous times and occasionally smell a burning smell which seems to go away if i turn everything but the motor off. I am also experiencing the headlight lenses are fogged and have poor visibility. When i mentioned the problem to the dealer they said they would just switch it out with another vehicles headlight. They claim to have done this but it looks exactly the same to me.

Vehicle stalled at 60 mph. Dealer could not find a cause.the a/c and the fun selector malfunctioned, but the dealer was unable to fix it. The vehicle starts and stalls immediately. The dealer installed a new circuit opening realy and the problem was solved.

2001-toyota camry:there is a burning odor when car is operating.the ignition does not always start the car upon inserting and turning the key.many times when turning the key, there is a high screeching loud noise and the car remains non-operational for a few minutes which occurs everyday.after the car is running for approximately 20-minutes down the road, there is a burning smell similar to burning rubber.the inside of the car near the floor on driver side and passenger side will become warm. It appears heat is generated from the engine into the inside of the car thus resulting in burning odor. Upon acceleration, the car has a jerky, propelling motion forward.steering column has some stiffness and at other times it has lot of play with turns. The power/electric windows, clock, and cd/radio player do not work properly.these defects/faults occurred approximately 6 months after used vehicle was purchased.as vehicle was sold as is, i did not return to the dealership for repairs. Car was taken to local mechanic and found nothing wrong.with the exception of the daily ignition/start problem, other problems described above, happen approximately five times a month.regular scheduled service maintenance are performed however all aboveproblems continue to concern me.

I have 2001 toyota camry 4 cyl le model. Many times when i begin my trip from my home my car accelerates even i have my foot off the gas pedal. It only happens within first few miles and then the problem goes away. I have a stop sign close to my home and before nearing the stop sign i lift my foot from gas pedal and car will accelerate and then i have to step on my brakes to stop it by the stop sign. It is very tricky in winter when there is ice on road. Since i am aware of this issue i do not step on gas at all till i hit the first stop sign. Once the car is running for a while the problem seems to go away. I wanted to bring this to the attention as i firmly believe that there is something more than sticky pedal. Since the problem goes away after few minutes of driving. That clearly indicates that the problem is not with sticky pedal. Since my car is not recalled i hope someone looks into this year model too.

Vehicle hesitates when accelerating and stalls out when attempting to stop vehicle.power brakes fail to work properly once call stalls out creating a hazard.no injuries or crashes to date but in fear of one occurring.dealership has made many attempts to correct the problem with no success as of 11/11/04.replaced the computer module, spark plugs, wires, fuel injectors & clean valves to no avail.

Symptoms: 1. Rear lights off warning comes on the dashboard 2. Check warning light comes on with code 1780. (neutral switch on the automatic transmission has a problem) 3. No brake lights or reverse light on in the trunk area only when applying the brakes. 4. Brakes vibrate when slowing down around 10mph to stop like your tires are riding a very rough surfaces. 5. Reverse light comes on in the shift gear indicator when applying brakes to shift from park position. Initial attempt to fix this problem: changing the reverse light bulbs and brake light bulbs, but problems continue to remain as describe in the symptoms.2nd attempt by mike gerber from website www:\\automotiveforums.com. He reported there is a loose wires connection or frayed wires at the hinge of the trunk on the driver side. After careful inspection on the wire harness at the hinge connection of the trunk, discovered at least one wire that was about the break off from opening and closing the trunk of the car for many years. After fixing these wires, all the symptoms were resolved. Amazing!!! couldn't have solved this problem so fast without the reading the article from mike gerber. Thanks!!!!!reason from writing this compliant: toyota manufacture should recall all these vehicles with this compliant without any charges to their owners..... This is a safety issue because it affected the performance of the braking system causing a vibration everytimes you apply the brakes like the abs system is activated. In addition, the brake lights aren't working correctly even after changing all the bulbs in the trunk area.

2001 toyota camry doors will automatically lock. Consumer states that the doors will lock by themselves and can not open manually. *nj

The vehicle overheated and stalled, i steered it to the roadside to call for a tow.speaking with insurance tow service the car started to smoke from the front passenger side under the hood. I supplied details of the area where the increasing smoke was coming from, the car location and my status.in the car i pulled the hood lever, went outside and stopped short of opening the hood.realizing i had no means to put out the increasing fire i had to watch my car burn until firefighters arrived. I was traveling in my toyota camry 2001 on i 75 s from royal oak to detroit, mi around 2:30 am on september 6th 2009 ,when suddenly i heard some cracking noise underneath the hood and fire from underneath the hood. I was traveling at around 70 miles/hr and tried to steer the vehicle to wards the shoulder and power steering failed and i saw engine light blinking, then tried to slow down and brakes failed. I quickly used hand brake and stopped the vehicle. I quickly turned off the ignition and tried to open the door and noticed that it was locked. I quickly pulled both the knobs simultaneously and got out of the car and called 911. By the time fire engine came to the scene, the car was on huge fire. My car didn't have any major issues in the past. I did change timing belt as per the company guidelines and at authorized dealer/service center. I changed the tires 2 months ago and oil change 1 and half month ago. Neither cops nor me could come to a conclusion on what went wrong. I am letting you know as it may help to increase the safety of cars if you investigate my car.i will be waiting for your response.

Brake lights come on in late p.m. Hours and recycle on and off till battery finally dies. Unknown if they come on automatically when driving. Has been to dealer 5 visits totalling 19 days, 3 times had to be towed due to dead battery. Dealer unable to find problem. Toyota customer notified 4 times, still no call back. Atty. Gen./mass. Lemon law notified also. Still waiting for my vehicle to be repaired--we hope!

I used the date of 2/23/2013 because that is when the problem became full blown but about 2 months before that date the car began surge when i put the car in gear after being parked and while at a stop sign. It sounded then and still sounds like a fly wheel or something under the hood is running at a very high rate of speed.if i had not had my foot on the brake it felt as though i would have gone forward into the car ahead of me.finally on 2/23/2013 the car started surging and then hesitating non-stop. The check engine light came on and began to blink so i crept back home with fear.when the car hesitates it feels as though it loses power and there's a backfiring sound in the rear. I took the car to aaa, they did a diagnostic on the computer and i had the ignition coil and spark plugs changed but the problem still exists.the surging and hesitation happens when the car is in gear (both drive and reverse) but not in neutral or park and it is constant.i have a fear that either the car will surge ahead while driving on a highway and i willcause an accident or be killed because the car may just completely stop.i contacted toyota corporate office on 2/28/2014 to see if there was a recall and to ask if they were aware of the problem.the representative said no to both questions, but i see that's no true.

My engine light has been on since i've had this car , 2001.no one could ever tell me why the light has been on all this time until i took it in for an oil change and was told that they couldn't do it because i had a severe oil leak. This car now needs head gaskets.it seems to be a toyota problem.

2001 toyota camry went out of control when our son was driving on a ramp and rolled over several times and the car was upside down trapping our son in the car upside down. He had to break the side window to get out of the car. It is completely total damage and the insurance company compensated for the value of the car. He was saved miraculously with minor cuts and bruises.policeman gave him ticket after he got out of the car. It was night and cold.

We purchased a used (about 43,000 miles) 2001 toyota camry le ) at the end of june 2006. Every thing works fine since we purchased it. The previous owner is a friend of mine, who always did regular maintenance and oil changes in toyota dealer and left all maintenance records to me. After we got the car, we had changed brand new tires, new brakes, replaced driver side auto window motor, and also done oil changes regularly. On june 11, 2007, i took my camry to mechanic to do oil and brake changes. No problem was reported. The total mileage on that car was less than 49,600 miles at that time.on friday, july 20, 2007, at 11:00 am, my wife drove kids from home to local library for about 7 minutes. After parking in the library parking lot, walking into library, a few minutes later, the librarian announced and asked the owner of camry with the specific plate number to go to front lobby. However, the librarian did not state the reason. My wife thought she parked well without any violation, so she did not pay too much attention to the first announcement. After librarian's second announcement, my wife felt that the plate number sounded familiar, so she went to front lobby to check out what's happening. When my wife got out to the parking lot, she saw police car and fire truck, and her car was burned out. All of the parts inside the engine cover were all melted. The fire also damaged the right front panel of the car parked next to my camry. I asked my mechanic to tow my car to his repair shop and checked my car. He told me that this car is not repairable and is totaled. I had contacted toyota corporate office customer experience center regarding my camry engine fire since july 23, 2007. The case manager - sandra told me that she would send my case to toyota's claim department and someone will contact me to investigate my car. However, it had been two weeks since my first contact with toyota, i had not received phone call from toyota claim department.

While approaching a red light i heard a noise with a loud bang all lights came on and the motor stopped. I had to get out because smoke came from all over the front of the car with fear that a fire would start i grabbed my girls and got to the side of the road. When my husband got there he opened the hood there was a hole in my motor the size of a baseball. When i called toyota they told me that my car was out of warranty nothing they could do. I investigated and found that they are paying for the motor to be fixed i need to have all my receipts from the oil changes which i happen to have.

After parking the vehicle on my home drive way, smoke came from under hood, then the vehicle caught on fire.after 911 call, the fire fighters came and put out the fire.all of the parts under the hood were all melted, especially engine side were burnt out significantly.the front window panel was also damaged.there were no warning lights which came on, no strange smells, nothing.

While driving check engine light appeared on the dashboard and remained on.consumer drove the vehicle to the dealer for inspection, and mechanic placed the vehicle on the diagnostic machine.then, mechanic informed consumer that the machine showed that emissioncharcoal canister, andvacuum switch valve were not working and needed replacement.

The car suddenly broke down on a major interstate out of washington, dc, on my way home from work.without warning (e.g., no warning lights or previous problems), it started to jerk sporadically and hesitated when i depressed the gas pedal.as i approached my exit to i-495 north, the car got worse it started to make a clicking-and-clacking noise and seemed that it would die at anytime.i took the first exit off of i-495 (210:indian head highway, south) because i knew that there was a shell gas station with a garage.as i approached the station, i heard a loud popping sound and the front of the car started to smoke.i was terrified that the car would catch on fire.*la

We bought a brand new 2001 toyota camry ce in 2000 and were pretty comfortable with the vehicle until something happened to us about 8 weeks ago.on jan 22, we were driving on i 15 freeway south from la back to las vegas.about after 30 minutes on the road i heard something sounding like a crack under the vehicle (last only about one second).i thought the vehicle might hit a rock underneath and slowed down trying to figure out what exactly happened. Then in about 3 minutes the vehicle lost the power.i turned on the emergency flash light and pulled the vehicle to the roadside.i could see that the engine oil was leaking out badly.after lots of hassles the vehicle was towed to crown toyota dealer shop in ontario.the next day morning their service manager called to tell me that nothing indicated that the vehicle hit a rock since there was no damage outside of the engine.to the best of his judgment the engine was damaged from inside.he said something from inside of engine could fall down and knocked the engine that caused the leaking.soon after that my insurance company denied my claim stating that they talked to the crown toyota dealer shop and concluded the accident was caused by the mechanical failure of the engine, which is not covered by the insurance policy. Last month i had the engine replaced in an auto shop and was told the same thing about the cause of the problem.from pictures attached one can see a big hole knocked out on engine(see attached picture).it is a real surprise to me since the vehicle has run only 79,500 miles and we gave it maintenance on regular bases as required.by this letter we request an investigation of what engine defect caused the failure and an explanation from toyota company.at the same time we reserve the right to ask for compensations for the loss caused by this mechanical failure.this complaint has been sent to national customer relation of toyota moto sales.

While driving at any speed engine warning light illuminated. Consumer had no other problems.dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.

The contact owns a 2001 toyota camry. The contact stated while braking from 3 mph in an attempt to make a left turn, the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact coasted off the roadway and was able to restart the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to a local repair facility where the mechanic replaced the egr valve. The failure persisted. The contact stated the failure would only occur when traveling at low speeds. The vehicle was then taken to an authorized dealer where unknown repairs were made to the vehicle. The repair did not correct the failure and it recurred at least five times following repairs. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer but the dealer was unable to provide an adequate repair. The vehicle was not further repaired. The vin was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000 and the current mileage 119,000.

While parked for 5 hoursvehicle caught on fire.the dealer stated that fire started in the engine compartment, however, the cause had not beendetermined.

My 2001 toyota camry started developing a problem more than two years ago, where it would start running rough and then stall--or sometimes stall without any warning. I have taken it into the toyota dealership numerous times, but they have not been able to fix it. If the car stalls or comes close to stalling then the engine light goes on, and the dealership has only been able to reset the engine light. Recently the dealership replaced the charcoal canister when the engine light came on, but that has not helped the running rough/stalling problem.the car seems to run rough or stall if it has gone above 4000 rpms ,and we can moderate the instances of a problem by avoiding sudden acceleration. My fear is that the car will stall in traffic and cause an accident.

I was driving my 2001 toyota camry at normal highway speed when without warning, i heard a loud noise. My engine immediately stopped operating and fortunately i was able to coast to the shoulder of the road. After having my car towed to a repair shop, the mechanic determined that an engine rod was thrown through the engine block. My car requires a new engine at an approximate cost of $ 3,000.00.

Car makes lound rattling nosey when stopped at a red light. The whole car shakes. The also take a while before putting off . Car dealer won't fix or look at the problem.

My car (a 2001, 4-cylinder, toyota camry le; vin #: [xxx]) has been at the service department for 26 days.i had the car towed to that dealership when it suddenly broke down on a major interstate without warning.the car started to jerk sporadically and hesitate when i depressed the gas pedal.the car got worse it started to make a clicking-and-clacking noise and seemed that it would die at anytime. As i approached the service station, i heard a loud popping sound and the front of the car started to smoke.i asked the mechanics at the station to check under the hood.after looking at the car, one of the mechanics asked how long have you had this car??when i told him that it was a 2001, he said that he?d never seen this type of damage in a 2-year old car.he recommended that i take it to the dealer because it should be a repair that would be covered under warranty.two letters and several calls later and my car still sits at the dealership. I received a call from percy chan of toyota's national customer relations center (310-468-2846) on october 17, 2003.[xxx]. I received a third call from [xxx]. [xxx] on october 21, 2003.he called to tell me that the [xxx]. Boots was no longer the service manager and the new manager was [xxx].he said that [xxx] checked with the mechanic and said that the damage was caused by valvoline who had done my last oil change.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information ac

When driving through heavy rain with water standing on road, a/c fails. This failure occurred twice so far.dealer indicated that such failure was normal when water gets on belt and belt slips. No repair made. Apparently they have seen this failure many times before. Failure results in rapid and unexpected condensation on windshield and other windows with loss of visibility duringheavy rain), causing a hazardous driving condition. Dealer states that there are no service bulletins concerning this problem.

In august, my wife and i noticed our 2001 toyota camry le made a noise like it was missing on one cylinder. We watched to see if the problem persisted. We were still under our extended warranty and took the vehicle to a local mechanic we trust. He discovered the middle valves were stuck or sticking in the valve sleeve, causing the "mis-firing" sound we heard. Further, we were told the remedy was to have the head machined, replace the damaged sleeves and this would resolve the problem. In asking another mechanic about the issue, we learned this is a common flaw in the 4 cylinder camry engine. In fact, our mechanic had 3 separate cars of the same age in for the same exact repair in a 2 week period. This seems a little deceptive, especially as you search the internet to discover there are several customers who found this flaw long after their warranty expired.we buy vehicles with the intent to keep them; we focus on what we believe to be quality manufacturers with a quality product. This lack of follow-through and care for the customer is ablatant disregard of the trust placed in their hands. Technically, we are only out very minor fees and the time it took to deal with the matter.this was not a consumer product, where the result is annoyance and frustration, but it was a mode of transport, carrying our lives on a daily basis. How can a company carelessly disregard the impact of its' products construction with so much on the line everytime it is used? i am very disappointed in toyota, especially in light of the recent news about drops in product quality. As they focus on the bottom line, little concern is shown to the consumer who risks a lot.

The contact owns a 2001 toyota camry. While driving at 35 mph, the contact heard a noise coming from the engine so she took the vehicle to a local mechanic who stated that the engine oil was low. The contact stated that the engine oil light did not illuminate to alert her to get an oil change which caused the engine to fail; the engine now needed to be replaced. The dealer and the manufacturer both stated that there were no recalls or warranties on the vehicle. The current and failure mileages were approximately 76,000.

While driving at 65 mph the engine caught on fire.there was a 3-4 inch hole in the engine which leaked oil and ignited a fire.the fire investigator reported the fire was caused by a mechanical malfunction and not improper care.there was no warning, the vehicle just exploded with a big bang and the brakes had gone out. *scc

Intermittently while driving at low speed 15 mph, vehicle will shut down. Dealer has inspected vehicle and, could not duplicate or correct the problem.

Petitioni and my 5 year old son were on highway, when the engine burst and caught on fire of my toyota camry 2001 exl. We had done all the maintenance with toyota and all changes of the oil requirements on time. The last oil change was only 4 weeks prior the accident. We went through terrifying and very dangerous experience also lost 27,000 investments in the car. Toyota's engines have the sludge problems, but they decline any responsibilities.people should know about such dangerous problembefore they can losea loved one. Ipetition the agency for a recall, because of seriousness of failure.

I drove the vehicle through a puddle and according to the dealership that caused the engine to hydro-lock.now the vehicle needs a new engine and the warranty will not cover it.i don't have $4,000 to pay for it.any assistance is greatly appreciated.

When starting vehicle it back fires and will not start, it takes about 3 tries for vehicle to start, engine check light is on, consumer has taken vehicle to dealer 4 times, the spark plugs have been replaced ,however the problem has not be resolved.*yd

My 2001 camry 4 cylinder started having white smoke coming out of the tail pipe after around 100,000 miles. It happens every morning when i start the engine. I had it checked by a mechanic and he said toyotas have that problem because of seating problem and it would cost me around $2000.00 to fix.

Large amounts of co are entering inside the car, my wife has passed out over a dozen times while driving the car. We used a co detector and it registerd over 999ppm. I fear that this may be a problem that goes undetected. My wife had an eeg, ekg and an electro cardiogram performed, all tests came back normal. We found it interesting that she would only pass out while driving the camry and this is what pushed us to test the co levels. I thank you in advance for your assistance and hope that this may help others that might be experiencing the same symptoms with this car or other cars. No safety defects mentioned.

Whenever someone gets inside of vehicle, may expierence dizziness/ nausia, headache, and chest pain. Consumer took the vehicle back four times for the same problem and the dealer could not identify the problem.

Back in sept 2004 was the first time that the engine check light came on. The charcoal canister was replaced with genuine toyota parts. Then the light returned on 10/04/04, 11/23/04 and 4/7/05 due to the same problem and the canister was replaced each time.

My wife's 2001 toyota camry has an air conditioner odor. We have been lead to believe that it may be caused by the a/c getting too cold, freezing up, and actually causing mold in the a/c system. She has driven the car for 2 1/2 years and now has cancer. We have been unable to do anything to rid the car of the odor. Doesn't exposure to mold, if so, cause health problems? we spent a year trying to locate an odor in the car. Replaced mats, detailed the upholstry, etc.

When the air conditioner is running and i am stopped at a stop light the break pedal will drop approximately 1 inch in about 1 second. This has occurred on numerous occasions since i purchased the vehicle. It is an unsafe condition andsomewhat scary. I reported this to the dealer and they said that it is normal. I find this incredibly hard to believe. I asked them for documentation to prove that this behavior is normal but they would not produce anything.

In addition to the transmission problem, since i bought the car last august, it has been a nightmare for me. At the time of purchase, the molding on the right side of the car was damaged, the dealer promised they would replace it, they never did, they just painted it, two days later the paint came off. The car was also delivered to me without the wheel nut wrench and the jack handle. I discovered it when i got a flat tire on 11/21/01, went to the dealer to claim those parts, the manager in charge refused to cooperate, i contacted the manufacturer who agreed to give me those parts at no cost to me. Both the manufacturer and the dealer showed no concern about the safety of myself and my family that i was driving without those critical parts. While taking care of this, to make matters wrost, i discovered that my car, before i bought it on 07/23/01 was in a collision and the dealer never informed me of it. When i contacted both the manufacturer and the dealer, they refused to cooperate. Please advise me on how to proceed to handle this malfaisance form this dealership. Thank you

The contact owns a 2001 toyota camry. The contact stated that while driving at 60 mph, the headlights dimmed. As a result, the contact's visibility was diminished. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic twice. The mechanic diagnosed that the head light assembly needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired however, the failure recurred on numerous occasions. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 57,000.

I was hit by a speeding driver in cross traffic. (a lot of people a running through red lights!)the front bumper and grill area was badly damaged, right headlamp assembly was torn off and hood was buckled.my seat belt did not stop me from being thrown forward and the airbag did not deploy, causing my head to hit the windshield, breaking the glass.i received medical attention for my head injury.two safety systems that failed.my car has been "totaled" by the insurance company.

2001 toyota camry headlight lenses are fogged and no longer clear.headlights are not a bright due to the condition.nearly hit bicyclist crossing in crosswalk at night.

The newer type of high intensity headlights are a safety hazard in that they are so bright that they cause oncoming drivers to lose their "night vision". Please work to get rid of the glare. I have thought this for a long time, but the recent press coverage of this issue prompted me to lodge a complaint. Thanksbill k.*nlm

With the first repair and 34,000 with the second and larger repair.it sounds like this is a problem with a large number of camrys.should there be a recall?

Consumers concern with the vehicle regards excessive cold idle speed which makes it difficult to stop the vehicle.when consumer drives out of his alley, there is a downhill slope which takes a lot of brake pressure to stop and hold the vehicle on the slope.the vehicle is also difficult to stop on icy conditions because the engine is trying to race.consumer believes that this vehicle is not achieving the specified fuel mileage per gallon.the mpg for this particular vehicle are 27 highway 22 city.this vehicle, a combination of 19 mpg. *jg

When my engine light came on in my 2001 toyota camry, i brought the car to baker auto service.i was told the vsv needed to be replaced, it was on a recall list and i should take it to a toyota dealer.i brought the car to king toyota in deerfield beach, fl and paid an $80.88 diagnostic fee.i wastold that the car needed vsv and a charcoal canister.i was also told there was no recall on these parts and the repair cost would be $628.the dealer informed me that is potentially dangerous not to replace these parts because if i am rear-ended the gas tank will explode, similar to the recallfor the ford pinto.if this is the case, whyhave these parts not been recalled? please advise me on any mending action on this problem and any recourse i might have.

The fuel gauge always points to empty or 3/4 full position regardless of real gas inside.

My check engine light was coming on with approximately 40,000 miles on my 2001 camry. After taking it to the dealer, i was told a valve was bad and would need to be replaced (along with about $2000 of other things that mysteriously didn't need any work at my 36,ooo mile end of warrenty check-up). A cursory internet search showed that the valve part was actually a sensor that regulates fuel. The internet search showed several articles about inproperly calibrated sensors and articles saying that 2001 camrys manufatured in kentucky were under recall for defective sensors. I waited for a recall notice, and never received one. I searched again for the calibration articles and a mechanic advised that the light would turn off if i did not carry a lot of luggage in the trunk , did not accelerate too quickly or use a bicycle rack on the trunk. Avoidingthese things caused the light to go out for long periods of time, usually a few thousand miles, and then the light would come on and go back off before i could take it to a mechanic. I inquired at two toyota dealerships to see if my car was to be recalled. Both said no. The national toyota customer relations insisted no 2001 camrys from kentucky were recalled, despite my finding that several recall websites listed them. The check engine light is now back on, and has not turned off like it has in the past. After seeing so many articles on improper calibration and defects, i would like to submit my car for recall.

The fuel gauge always points to empty or 3/4 full position regardless of real gas inside.

I have a 2001 toyota camry where the gas pedal sticks at times. Not all the time. Is there a problem with this year/model vehicle. I have had it at my local mechanic where he lubricated the cable. It helped for a very short time. The problem is back again. Is this vehicle part of any recall with toyota?

In my 2001 toyota camry, my check engine light has recently come on. It was due to a faulty vsv valve charcoal canister assembly, as i am being told. As a result, this car will not past state emissions. I have also been told i need to pay over $400.00 so far on this repair. I am forced to do this at this time since i need to pass the emissions and be able to drive the car. This car has just turned 40k miles. I have researched on the web and found many toyota owners have the same problem. Some and getting repairs done for free, some are not. There is a service bulletin on this, but no recall, so i have heard.

I am the 2nd owner of this car , and i have loved it until the day the acceleratordidn't work. I was driving down a mountain, not using the accelerator until i reached the bottom of the hill.when i tried to accelerate the pedal would not move.i coasted into the nearest turnoff.the car was running , i put it into" park", while still running i checked to see if there was something (floormats) blocking the pedal.there was nothing.i tried mashing it as hard as i could, no movement.i turned the engine off, waited a few minutes and restarted.the pedal was ok,accelerated just fine.i believe i rebooted the computer.i carefully drove to my mechanic, he checked the "plates" and other possible problems and could find nothing wrong. I calledtoyota customer service , they advised taking it to the nearest dealer.i was told it was not on the recall listbut i could bring it in to be checked.i was afraid to drive the car that distance over 200 miles roundtrip.i later received a small check from "toyota economic loss settlement administrator " for a class action lawsuit settlement.i did not cash it.i was advised by my insurance company not to drive the car.i would like to sell it but ethically can not because i don't want somebody killed or injured in it.i have tried several times at the dealership to find a solution. But they claim this problem couldn't happen and were not helpful.it could be sold to a junk yard at a loss but again, it could be sold from thereand driven.any advice?

I purchased a 2001 camry le (new) and the dome light does not work the way the manual says it should.i have power door locks and keyless entry- when i use my keyless entry my dome light does not come on the way my manual states it should. And when i first close my door the dome light does not stay on for the 15 seconds like the manual says it should. This is very very unsafe for a person to get into this car after dark!!!! if someone was hiding in the car they would have all the advantages - if i use my keyless entry from 10 feet away and my light doesn't come i can't tell someone would be in the car but, in reality i have just signaled to that person that i'm on my way to the car, so get ready to jump out at me. They're ready and i wouldn't be!!!!!!!! sounds extremely unsafe to me. How does toyota justify taking "away" safety features. Steering wheel shake at 65mph. Dealer has attempted multiple times to repair but has been unable to isolate problem..drivers door will not shut completely unles slammed. Dealer reports toyota working on technical bulletin for fix to dealers. Toyota corp and dealership as yet refuses to provide a new car.

While driving at highway speed of 60 mph, passenger's door opened enough thatdoor was ajar and light came on.dealer was notified.

While setting the emergency brake, the plastic button which holds the brake in place detached from the handle, and now the brake will not hold, and the parking brake now does not stay set. I feel that this is an unsafe situation, but i have not been able to find anybody with the replacement part. Please contact me immediately with a plan of action. Thank you, david wisdom.

Experienced sudden acceleration.car all of sudden accelerated.tried to stop car with the emergency brake.also, tried to put car in neutral and park as well as turn off the engine.had to run car into hillside bank to stop the car.

Thank you

When starting the vehicle rpms go high.also, while driving automatic transmission takes a long time to shift. Dealer found that engine computer had to be replaced to fix the start up problem. Dealer had not determined the cause of theproblem with the transmission.

When i attempted to park my car in front of hancock house of farbrics , i pressedhe brake preparing to stop , suddenly the car jump to the store same as a horse and stop .i did say with police i did press the brake but he didn't believe me .the store was damage in front door , my car too , but fortunely nobody injured .

Driver side seat belt buckle not working. Belt can not go into the buckle unless you hold down the red button release buckle then insert the belt with force. It does release the belt. *ln

I just started the engine and ready to go home when i tried my seat belt, it will not latch.after so many tries it finally work afterhaving to depress the red button part of the seat belt latch all the way down. It happened again yesterday 10/31/2014.

The latch on my toyota camry le drivers side front seat belt will not latch. You must hold depressed the center button of the buckle as you insert the latch for it to operate. I have just gotten this car and do not know how long the has been defective.

The seat belts don't buckle in the latch. All five buckle not working.

The contact owns a 2001 toyota camry. While sitting idle with the engine running, the air bag warning light illuminated on the dashboard. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the contact was informed that the air bag module would need to be replaced and there was also an electrical failure in the front, drivers side seat belt in which it would not retract. The dealer advised in the event of a crash, the seat belt would not restrain the driver as designed. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileages were 108,000. The consumer received a phone call from a representatives from toyota who informed her, that toyota would reimburse her for the repair of the seat belt assembly, but would not assist with the repair of the air bag.updated evoq 12/0/10

The contact was driving 20 mph and attempted to adjust the driver's side electronic seat adjuster. The seat adjuster failed and the seat was abnormally reclined toward the rear of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who adjusted the driver seat into a higher position that would not allow the contact to reach the steering wheel. The dealer denied any further assistance with the driver seat failure. There were no further repairs.the failure and current mileage was 113,000.updated 08/31/11updated 2/9/12

The front seats are defectively designed, creating a health and safety hazard.

On december 3rd 2001, i was hit from behind by a crown victoria doing approximately 35-40 mph as the car in front of me had stopped to turn and the driver who hit me had fallen asleep at the wheel.the damage to the car was very minimal, the bumper and trunk had to be replaced.on impact of being hit the reclining part of my seat broke and even though i was wearing my seat belt it threw me into my 3 year old son's car seat that was positioned directly behind me (thankfully he was not in the car at the time). My insurance company (as well as myself and my husband) could not figure out why the seat would break so easily so we asked for toyota to look and see what happened and they said that both steel rods on the seat had broken but could not tell us why they broke, they have since replaced the seat and now the new seat has a defect also. I would like to know what kind of defect would cause 2 steel rods to snap with such little damage done to the car and why am i having problems with the new seat? at the time of the accident i was 28 weeks pregnant and i thank god that the baby was okay, however i am now suffering neck ,shoulder and arm pain and i am terrified to put my children in the back seat of my car, i feel that it is unsafe and dangerous for any of them to sit directly behind me but with 3 children i have no choice!. I would like to find out the cause of this problem because i can see that i am not the only one who has had their seat broken according to the consumer complaints.

Drivers seat feels like cushion fails on door side, allowing driver to feel hard wire structure and connectors in seat.

My car (vehicle 1) was stopped at red light when vehicle 2 failed to slow and struck the rear of vehicle 1 at 45 mph.my drivers seat back failed and the seat extended back until it stopped on top of the rear seat.the seat failure caused serious injury to my neck and spine with vertebrae compression and possible fracture.

No summary listed for above vehicle.

Front passenger seat would tilt when turning corners;bolt securing seat was "broken off" allowing an unsecured seat to move.seat had to be removed to replace broken bolt, thus 1 hr service charge and 3.50 charge for bolts.i had toyota garage replace both rear bolts to assure safety of my passengers.

Consumer cut hand while trying to get a piece of paper fromunderneath one of the seats.*mrthe consumer's left wrist was cut by a sharp object under the seat.the consumer went to the hospital and had to receive stiches. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who indicated that the problem was a manufacturer's defect.

Consumer noticed while making a turn passenger's seat began to rock. Problem was due to a broken frame bolt.*mr

While drivingat any speed front driver's seat would rock back and forth.the dealer stated that there was no warranty, nothing we could do.the seat was repaired but then six weeks later the problem recurred.toyota suggested that nothing was wrong with the vehicle. *sc

Recently we were hit by a pickup truck while stopped on the interstate. We were stopped due to another accident ahead. Both driver and passenger seats broke at the tilt point and collapsed backward onto the rear seat, narrowly missing our 31 month old child and his car seat. The driver seat did make contact with the car seat, but was deflected due to the strength of the car seat.i find it hard to believe that the seats are designed to collapse. Why did our seats fail?

Dmv visit and records as of 09/27/2018-thur.please read below.currently in 2018, and a few years in the past dmv pull out records for different car under my ownership> my car is 2001 toyota camry with automatic transmission, airbags, cruise control, power steering wheel, updated leather seat, mobile seats and much more. How to prove police department and other agencies - police/lot securities that my car has been taking care of and free of any payments. I am afraid for my life due to scrutany of employees of dmv -san mateo county, city of redwood city. By the way my car records are in santa clara county and even some attachments in santa cruz county-state of california.

While backing out of a parking space very slowly, looking both directions, the car suddenly accelerated and flew across a busy street into a store front.three persons were slightly injured and the car was considered totaled as well as the main front window of the store.

The contact owns a 2001 toyota camry. While driving 25 mph, an abnormal revving sound emitted from the vehicle without warning. The contact mentioned that the brake pedal was depressed, but the vehicle failed to respond. The vehicle was able to be stopped by turning into a parking garage. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, but the failure was unable to be duplicated. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 82,000.

I was driving home from the dr. S and noticed that the brake pedal was making this loud noise and the pedal went almost to the floor but it had a crunchy noise and i knew that the brakes were not the same when i left my house. I pulled over and got out and noticed that the brake fluid was low and i had to go buy dot 3 and put it in the master cylinder.i kept driving it until i could find out what it was an was told that i needed a brake booster, but the car only has 87,546 mile's on it.

I just keep having trouble with the brakes on my car.

Ihad an accident recently with my 2001 toyota camry.my husband also had an accident in the same car a few years back. But both are kind of same scenario. The brakes don't work properly in rain.tried to stop but nothing happened and we rear ended cars before us.

Service brakes. The consumer stated toyota did not fix the brakes to his satisfaction.

Brake system failure on a 2001 camry, abs completely fails when traveling over sharp bumps in the road. Specifically when abs activates.

2001 toyota camry was involved in an accident and none of the air bags deployed.*mrwhen the consumer attempted to stop the vehicle abruptly the brake pedal went to the floor and the vehicle did not slow down.as a result the vehicle collided with another vehicle.

On thursday, may 9th, 2002 i was pulling into a parking spot in the parking lot of the jewel store at 40th street and harlem ave. In stickney, il.my speed at that time was 1 or 2 mph. About 3 or 4 feet from where i was to make a complete stop - the car suddenly made a loud "revving" noise and lurched forward - up over a curb, up a grassy embankment, knocked down two pine trees and sideswipeda 6' wooden fence before coming to a stop.my foot was on the brake as all this was happening, but the car wouldn't stop until stopped by the fence.

While pulling inside ofdriveway applied brakes, and brakes failed, ran into a tree. Dealership was aware ofproblem.

Purchased a new 2001 camry le (vin [xxx]) on november 11, 2000. No summary listed for above vehicle. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

The brakes on toyota camry le models are not functioning properly.in each of three different camry cars that i have owned (1996,2000, and 2001) the brakes make a rumbling sound when slowing down from a speed over 50 miles an hour.furthermore,on my 2001 camry the abs light came on during use on icy roads, i took it to the dealer who said that this happens and that he had five other complaints about the very same thing that day.he attributed this to one of the sensors "sticking", and that all i had to do is turn the car off and let it "cool "down and the light would go off.this is true, this did happen, but what good are abs brakes if they malfunction on the very icy roads that they are supposed to protect you from?it seems to me that if a sensor is "sticking"the sensor should be replaced and that the car should not have to be allowed to "cool down" especially since this happened in the middle of a parkway on icy road conditions.also, during the time the abs light was on one of the wheels brakes locked preventing the wheel from spinning further causing a more dangerous situation.

The response time for the braking system is severly lacking.i have experienced the problem numerous times, including once on the freeway when the brakes would not engage at all.i have notified the manufacturer and brought the car in for inspection numerous times and each time have been told there is no problem with the brakes.however i contiinue to experience deficiencies in braking response time. Mr

Upon stopping the vehicle the brakes does not stop the vehicle. The vehicle makes a grinding noise and it drags. Dealer states that a part is missing off the brakes. Please provide any further information. Nlm

While traveling between 55 and 65 mph a vibration occurs invehicle under normal operation.dealership could not duplicateproblem, and could not assistconsumer.during the week of june 11th,acceleratorstuck whilevehicle was in operation. Dealership again stated they could not find anything wrong with vehicle. Consumer noticed cruise control was not working properly shortly after purchase, it would cut in and out and jerk vehicle, dealer adjusted terminal of jumper switch wire to ensure good contact and adjusted cable of the cruise control a couple months later, now consumer experiences problems with the accelerator sticking without the cruise control turned on, cruise is still experiencing problems while on, rpms are running high while at stops, and accelerator is sticking.while applying brakes when they are heated up, they get hard and cause vehicle to vibrate.

Intermittently when brakes are applied in a sudden stop, pedal is normal; however, there is an extended stopping distance. Also, pads have been replaced twice, and the problem still exists.consumer feels the problem may be due to an improper friction material, also states that possibly the master cylinder piston displacement has been miscalculated.

Brake fluid failed causing master cylinder seals to swell.it could not have been contaminated since no one ever touched the braking system since car was new. Mr

It was raining very hard and the temp outside was around 70. I may have driven thru a puddle just before i turned my car , as i turned my steering froze up, like i lost power steering only worse, i couldn't turn the wheel to straighten out my car so i had to stop my car. After a few seconds i was able to get control of the steering again. After driving for about 10 minutes the steering problems went way.this steering problem continues to occur whenever it's very wet outside, when it's raining hard. I brought my car to a auto mechanic who checked the belts and steering fluid and said everything looked normal.

While driving 31 mph the steering veered to the right and the vehicle accelerated without warning. As a result the consumer lost control of the vehicle and collided into a tree. No injuries reported. The cause had not beendetermined. Please provide additional information.

Noticed a vibration in the steering wheel since the first month of purchase have had many front end alignments and wheel bal plus changed tires three times. Still having the same problem to this day.

While traveling on the dallas north tollway, it became difficult to steer the vehicle.it started to pull towards the left at first slightly, then more violently causing me to crash into the concrete median that separates the north and southbound lanes of the highway.i sustained accute muscle and ligament sprain in my back.the vehicle was operating fine the previous day.

I own 2001 camry le. Fortunately no accidents happened but i'm tired of fixing it's wheel alignment problems. The car pulls on left. I replaced every possible parts suggested. I did the alignment from several places such as sears, firestone. They don't find any problem in the alignment report but when i drive, the car heavily pulls on left side. I have to really hold the steering tight to keep the car on road or in a lane..

This is not a takama recall complain. It is regarding my car that has been id' that it is 2000 year make car, the local dmv did made an inspection and conclusion was that is it 2000 - due to some stickers everywhere - on the door, on the hood of the car and other places.

Have had a steering wheel vivration since i bought the car new in 2001. Have had wheels balanced and aligh in past and purchased new tires after 18,000 miles to see if that would help. Nothing has. Still has vibration. Called toyota in 2001 no help resolving problem. 8jb

At highway speeds, particularly from 45 mph to 65-75 mph, steering wheel on 2001 camry le 4-cyl vibrates. Tires and wheels have been balanced many times but still no remedy. Alignment was also performed many times but with the same problem. Went to toyota dealership 4 times, with the same cause, dealer tentatively fixed issue but restarts (vibrates) after a few miles.steering wheel seems loose (about to fall off) and moves the car slightly to the left. Visual vibrate of steering wheel is seen and of course felt. This vibrate not seen in my previous 1998 corolla at the same speed range. Also, other generation 4 (1997-2001) camry's have the same defect.possible engine mount problem (engine not held properly), over or under torquing of steering wheel and related components. Probably suspension failure or improper installation of steering and suspension. Note: incident date is today's date (02 may 03). Incident has happened many times in normal driving. We purchased a brand new toyota camry 2001 last week (may 2nd). The car has a defect on the steering (steering is loose or pulls to one side) that the dealer service center has been unable to fix after the third attempt. Car is still at service center, each time they try to get the car back to us while they know the problem persists. A technician at the center mentionned a factory defect. We are very concerned by the safety of the vehicle we paid $20,000 for and would rather get our money back.

Steering wheel hard to turn, defect in rack and pinion.

Dt:the contact states she received a carfax report that stated the following could happen."the front frame assembly has not been adequately welded.fuel throttle linkage and control; the accelerator cable housing could be deformed at the cruise control at the actuator to the throttle body.the inner accelerator inner cable could veer away and eventually break this could allow the throttle to return to the idle or remain in its most recent position regardless of accelerator pedal operation increasing the risk of a crash."none of these symptoms apply to her vehicle at this time.

The vehicle fishtailed on a gentle snow covered curve.the dealer later discovered that the vehicle loss rear tire grip which caused thevehicle to fish tail.ph*nlm

Have had 4 windshields since we bought this car.the first time it was replaced the glass people said that there was no primer under the black exterior paint which probably contributed to the break.each time after the repair people said the same thing.lack of primer accelerated body rot around the windshield.now water pours into the driver side floor due to rot around the windshield - auto body shop is looking at it now.they said it could be expensive to repair, they are going to try to fix it so that it doesn't leak.this is the most recent incident. The prior replacements were done by settles glass, triumph glass and jm phillips glass.all repairmen said the same thing - lack of primer led to windshield breakage and accelerated rot.

First toyota is claiming that they wont be responsible for rust through since first they said we washed the car the wrong way when in fact we have life time free car wash in the dealership where we bought the car from. Then the debris inside the inner door locks and under the hood next to the engine it self wont be covered since it isabnormal driving. Well if you drive on the highways of il and this is abnormal then by all means general public should be aware of that right????

Speed sensor melted with plug and kept blowing 10a gauge fuse witch gauge stops working windows won't go down and battery will die if not handled and the vehicle was in park this will happen once you turn the key just turn the key the vehicle was not started just the key was turned into the on position then the fuse will automatically pop

Currently my vehicle is stationed, i am searching for the true answers of the title on my car.

Have had a wheel vibration since new car purchase in 2001 with several attempts to balance and align tires also purchased new tires in 2003 with no remedy of vibration. If this is the type of toyota quality we can expect then i am going to buy american from now on.

Two days back when i was trying to take my car out i heard some different sound.. Then i stopped car and observed that it is flat tire.. I took the tire out and observed thatthe tire got cut because the shock coil spring got broken into two and the sharp edge of the spring is cutting the tire..luckily it did not happen on the highway .. A day before that i visited sant cruz with family ( wife and two kids ).. If it was, i would have been in helpless situation.. I replaced all the struts and shocks on next day by towing the vehicle.tire has more than three cuts.. I am not sure from how long the sharp edge spring was touching the tire.

Vehicle would wanders across the road when driving 60 or more mph; vehicle been in the dealer shop on two occasion, had tires replace, wheels realign and balance, problem still reoccurring; vehicle back to the dealer for the third time; feel free to provide any further information.

Noticed a vibration in the steering wheel since the first month of purchase have had many front end alignments and wheel bal plus changed tires three times. Still having the same problem to this day.

Vehicle drifts to left at any speed at any time. Vehicle has been taken to dealer. Dealer said nothing wrong with vehicle.

Front end hasvibration. The morevehicle acceleratesvibration gets worse.dealer has tried 6 times to repairproblem by balancingwheel/ front alignment andreplacingfront axle on both sides. The remedies have not worked.

Vibrations in the front end of 2001 toyota camry from day of purchase.. Above 65 mph vibrations can be felt, pretty severely at times, in the steering wheel and on the floor board, near the feet. Dealer has agrreed that there is a problem. Dealer has attempted 5 times over last 2 years to fix the problem: wheel balancing, new tires, new right front axle, new wheels. But vibrations are actually getting worse.

Within a day of delivery the consumer noticed that the vehicle wandered/pulls to the right when driven on smooth surfaces.nlm

Vibration in front end beginning within 2 months of purchase in jan 2001. Vibration has grown progressively worse especially on rough pavement or dirt raods. Also a popping noise front front right corner when turning steering wheel to either limit.

Small magnitude vibration when driving over rough pavement in front passenger side of vehicle. Suspect motion of front passenger wheel not damped out by faulty shock absorber.

Spring stopper was installed infront spring atfactory, possibly for delvery purposes, but it was not removed when sold to consumer, causing a steering hazard.

Purchased 2001 toyota camry xle on 03-15-2003. I have been having problems with squeaking from the rear going over bumps. I called folsom lake toyota for some advise, the gentleman said use a spray lubricant on all the joints and this should correct the problem. This did not work. On october 16, 2003 i went to folsom lake toyota and spoke with a service rep regarding this problem. He brought up the car on his system, which it was disclosed to me the vehicle when traded to them had rear suspension squeaking, i also saw this on his computer for myself. I went in on saturday oct 18, 2003 for my appointment. After 2 1/2 hours the assistant service manager [xxx] disclosed to me the vehicle had severe suspension problems. He would not put this on a work order for me to show what the problems where. He did indicate he would speak with the managers of the sales department on monday october 20, 2003. I have not heard from him. I called the service department and was told he would be left a message. This vehicle was sold to me as a certified used vehicle, which doesn't seem to mean a [xxx] thing. I would like this to be investigated due to the fact the car had this problem when they took it in and they put a temporary bandage on it until they could pawn it off. I would not have bought this car if it had been disclosed to me that the suspension had a problem. I want to be reimbursed all payments made, my down payment and to have toyota financial paid off as if this transaction never took place. This is not the quality i expected out of toyota. I will be taking this vehicle and filing a complaint with b.a.r.*lainformation redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Control arm on passenger side rear threads stripped.control arm came apart, causing tire to almost fall off of vehicle.

Tires skided on wet road and when checked i was told i would have to replace one or more of the tires. I rotate my tires every 5,000 miles and have had them balanced at least one time. These are the original tires shipped with the vehicle. I can't believe they would fail in less than 30,000 miles.

Premature tire faillure. I recently had to replace my tires on a 2001 toyota camary. The car has 47000 miles on it. The tire dealer indicated that he had experienced thsi problem on several occasions. Other customers had similar complaints involving several brands of tires. He indicated that there was premature outer edge wear indicating a possible specification problem.

Tires totally came apart where sidewall and tread meet while driving at highway speed.these tires seemed defective when new and were reported to manufacturer and examined by dealer.both said they were ok, but obviously they were wrong!car sustained damage to passenger door, but fortunately no one was injured.

As i supplied information the smoke volume increased from the front passenger side under the hood.smoke volume continued to increase and a crackling/burning sound started.i told the agent i have to go and called 911.

The failure is the gas pedal gets stuck. It sticks when i am at traffic lights and it's my turn to go and has been sticking every since i had the car. I thought that it was just the car not getting enough gas. Nothing has been done to correct it because i was told there was nothing wrong with it. I am afraid that i am going to hit someone because i do have to really mash the gas to get it to move. The only incident was in 2005 my daughter was driving. She stopped to get gas. When she finished and got in the car to leave she put the car in reverse and the accelerator stuck when she gave it gas she baked into a pole. The only damage was to my car she was not hurt so the police wasn't called.

The contact owns a 2001 toyota camry. While driving into a shopping center, the vehicle accelerated uncontrollably. The contact applied extreme pressure to the brake pedal; however, the vehicle failed to slow down. The contact was able to avoid crashing into the front of a building; however, he crashed into a dumpster and the back of the building. The vehicle was destroyed. The air bags deployed.the contact sustained broken ribs, numerous bruises and contusions. The contact has not confirmed if the floor mats caused the vehicle to accelerate. The current and failure mileages were 91,000.

While driving 31 mph the steering veered to the right and the vehicle accelerated without warning. As a result the consumer lost control of the vehicle and collided into a tree. No injuries reported. The cause had not beendetermined. Please provide additional information.

The first accident on 12/23/2006 was a big one. It was my first and only accident. It happened, medford, ma. I got into this accident when i was driving my 2001 camry at less than 30 miles per hour in a local street/bridge, trying to turn to the left, there were no cars around, only 2 or 3 cars far away behind me.while i was turning, suddenly the 2001 camry was 'out of control'. I just could not slow down or stop the car, no matter what i did. It kept moving ahead. I turned the car to the left and then right. It hit the left and right curb of the street/bridge. My car was damaged very badly. Fortunately i was ok. I reported the accident to the massachusetts motor vehicle department and local police department, but i had no idea about what had happened. The only thing i could do at that time was to replace 4 tires and to replace the brake systems, besides fixing the body and the damaged engine. I spent more than $6000 to fix the car and six points was added into my car insurance.the second one in 2009 was similar to the one in 2006. It was very scary. There were a lot of cars around and it could be a huge one.my son was driven the same car, 2001 camry to the church in chelmsford, ma on a friday evening. I was sitting besides him. He was driving on the local street in less than 30 miles per hour and wanted turn to the right at an intersection. Suddenly he could not slow down or stop the car. He almost hit the car on the side street waiting for the green light. After that he still could not control the car, the car was moving and moving ahead, and finally the car was inactively stopped by a set of bush and a curb in a small parking lot. Again i had no idea what had happened at that time. But why was my 2001 camry out of control? i am wondering what would happen if the incidence happens in a high way? my son or i might be killed! that is really scary!

Driving north on us highway 101 in california at speed limit of 65 mph.car speed increased on a curve, could not stop it and subsequently crashed into a barrier in the median.

The contact owns a 2001 toyota camry.while driving approximately 65 mph the accelerator pedal became stuck in a depressed position.heavy pressure was then applied to the brake pedal and he was able to lift the accelerator pedal out of the depressed position using his foot.the vehicle was pulled over and shut off.it was then towed to an authorized dealer where he was told the accelerator cable fractured.the vehicle was repaired.the failure mileage was 172,000 and the current mileage was 174,000.the vin was unavailable.

While driving with cruise control engaged, the driver depressed the brakes, instead of the brakes engaging the vehicle accelerated causing the driver to lose control and hit the semi. Due to the extent of impact, the frontal air bags deployed and the vehicle was deemed totaled.

The contact owns a 2001 toyota camry. The contact stated that while trying to park at 5 mph, the vehicle suddenly accelerated and crashed into a tree. The vehicle sustained major body damage but no injuries were reported. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealership but the dealer could not duplicate the problem. The failure mileage was approximately 35,000. The current mileage was approximately 60,000.

At approximately 2:30 pm, my son was backing out of our driveway in our 2001 4 cylinder camry.he placed the car in reverse and the car shot backward at very high speed, completely out of control.the car traveled about 65 feetacross our narrow side street, where the car side-swiped a cement worker's truck and substantially slowed down for about 1 second due to thecontact. My sonwas attempting to pull the accelerator up with his foot while the car was side-swiped, thinking that the accelerator had jammed, when the car broke away from the side-swipe and again shot out at uncontrollable speed. The car had been steered slightly to the driver's left, so the car proceeded in a semi-circleanother 75 feet, back across the curb over our lawn throughand over approximately 1 foot high landscaping stone and came to a rest inches from our house, only after my son pulled up the parking brake and somehow threw the car into park i've gone through toyota regional in aurora, il - they sent their engineer who performed a non-road test on the car at the body shop, found nothing wrong.thereafter, one of my co-workersdid some web search and discovered the concept of "sudden acceleration", the recall on the 2001 6 cylinder toyotas and the nftsa inquiries on the 2002-04 models. Toyota refuses to do anything other than have their engineer meet me to do a road test after the body workis fixed.i am shocked and stunned at toyota'slack of concern on such an obvious safety issue.i have more, but have edited this to comply with the 2000 character requirement.please contact me.

On thursday, may 9th, 2002 i was pulling into a parking spot in the parking lot of the jewel store at 40th street and harlem ave. In stickney, il.my speed at that time was 1 or 2 mph. About 3 or 4 feet from where i was to make a complete stop - the car suddenly made a loud "revving" noise and lurched forward - up over a curb, up a grassy embankment, knocked down two pine trees and sideswipeda 6' wooden fence before coming to a stop.my foot was on the brake as all this was happening, but the car wouldn't stop until stopped by the fence.

While driving, and upon coming to a complete stop vehicle continued to move, put in park and putemergency brake on before the vehicle came to a complete stop. The accelerator pedal sticks. Every time i come to a halt for about 20secs to 1 minute. I have to push hard a couple of times or more to release the pedal from the stuck position. The car then goes into sudden acceleration. This has been happening for about 6 months and has gotten progressively worse. I noticed the same problem with my 2007 toyota camry accelerator pedal.

The gas pedal in my two thousand one (2001) toyota camry sticks. It locks and fails to accelerate once i let up off the gas upon reaching maximum speed then need to give gas to maintain acceptable speed seconds later. Equally it fails to accelerate when idling in stop-and-go traffic and needs to pick up speed as traffic begins to moves. It's always been like that and fortunately never locked in undesired acceleration. Please consider how the mechanics of that problem relates to the current toyota gas pedal problems, if at all. I don't want anything from nhtsa or toyota as i look forward to getting another car due to the vehicle's expensive emissions failure rather than gas pedal issues. You are however welcome to access my vehicle if it could help in looking into the history of what's really going on with gas pedals.

On november 4, 2008 as i was attempting to park my car at the williamsburg, va post office and was about 2/3 of the way into the parking spot with my foot on the brake, the engine roared, the car accelerated, jumped the curb and hit the side of the brick building.fortunately there were no pedestrians in my path.we had the car towed to casey toyota in williamsburg where they inspected the brakes and found that they were working properly.we then requested that toyota send a representative to inspect the car to determine what might have caused this accident.the inspector's report states that he found nothing wrong with the car.(this of course all took place prior to the recent recalls).we incurred expenses totaling over $600. Because of this accident.since we felt this car was unsafe to drive, we decided to trade it in and had to accept a reduced trade-in because it was involved in an accident and also incurred great expense in purchasing a new car.research has shown that this was not an isolated incident as the recent recalls have shown.

Windshield cracked while driving.

This is not a takama recall complain. It is regarding my car that has been id' that it is 2000 year make car, the local dmv did made an inspection and conclusion was that is it 2000 - due to some stickers everywhere - on the door, on the hood of the car and other places.

The driver's side front wheel of our 2001 toyota camry suddenly came off from the axel while traveling at highway speed (around 65 mph). This happened on the interstate 78 highway in pa. This lead to car sinking to the left and hitting the guard rail, then spnning across the highway, hitting the other guard rail. The car was totaled. People were injured, one person at the back seat had head injury, one has had chronic neck problems since then, others keep having neck troubles off and on.the wheel jumped the median and flew off to the otherside of the highway.the coming off of the wheel was sudden, giving no time to the driver to do anything to control the vehicle.the car only had roughly 55,000 miles on it and we had gotten an oil change and multipoint inspection service on the car about 1000 miles before the accident. There was no axel related problem indicated in the service. That service was done by a toyota dealer.the accident was reported to toyota customer service.thankfully there was no other vehicle around us on the highway or the wheel coming off would have had fatal results.

Consumer states while driving the front left wheel bolts broke causing the front left wheel to fall off. Please provide any additional information. Ts
