Owner concerned about impact during air bag deployment - does not want the air bag disabled, but a safer air bag designed and installed in vehicles where drivers, due to height limitations, have to have the driver's seat pulled in the foremost position.

The dealer could not determine if the corrected owner's manual was still in production. The manufacturer indicated that they would be able to provide the corrected owner's manual, but then called back to indicate that an owner's manual was not available. The manufacturer provided no alternative option for how to access the information, when needed. The vin was not available. The contact had not experienced a failure.

3 times since purchasing my new 1994 camry (v6 sedan), the engine has completely died while driving. All power lost to engine, power steering, and power brakes. Happened when brand new. Brought it back to shop and they said it's the type of "computer glitch" that's to be expected on such a complex computer system. Has happened twice more since then. When i pull over to restart the engine, everything is fine. Scary as hell when it happens when i'm driving. Has only happened 3 times, fortunately.

Wiring gets wet when driving through water puddles, causing electrical problems.
Experienced two times with unwanted sudden acceleration with toyota camry '94(made in us model) in may 2011: while driving 30mph, all of a sudden, the speedometer was up like crazy (6000-7000rpm) and while applying brake on it which didn't seem to response and i hadto apply the brake very hard to make the car stop and had to turn off the engine.

"takata recall" my brakes went out while driving on a city street, slowing down to make a right turn into a dirt road to get home. Instead i lost control of the steering wheel and ended up crashing into a ditch. My airbags inflated. Now my muffler sounds like its rattled and a strong smell of gasoline always occur when driving. I have no exterior damage due to the crash. Only internal and prior to this, my brake warning lights would come off and on. I was told that it just meant that my brake sensor had a glitch. Other than that my breaks worked just fine with no warning signs of them going out sooner.
I have a 1994 toyota camry, and i have an oil sludge problem. I have kept very good records of the service history of the vehicle, and have had regular oil changes, but somehow this was not good enough. I applied to be considered for the oil sludge program but was denied because my vehicle is older than the models in the oil sludge program. I realize that there is nothing that can be done, but i wanted to let you know that other model vehicles are also being affected by the oil sludge problem.
Wifes car started smoking at 59,000 miles. I went to local toyota and they said that the oil had not been changed on a regular basis. I told them that was not true. I asked how many others are having the same trouble and they said that toyota engines do not give any problems when the oil is changed. Service manager told me in secret that some owners have put transmission fluid in the oil as a detergent and break up the sludge. We drove the car until it had 73196 miles and found a toyota service manager who had a shop who quoted me the $2100.00. He said it would cost $4,800.00 if toyota did it. I was furious with toyota and let him do it. He told me he and a partner worked at toyota 12 hours a day four days a week tearing down fixing and reassembling toyota engines because of sludge before he became service manager
Never had a problem with car for 3 years owned.had car towed due to sluggish/ wanting to cut out when idling issue.when ft wayne toyota checked car, the engine had "sludge" in it, was unfixable and car needed new engine.looked they said like the oil hadn't been changed often or correctly.oil changes done approx every 4000 miles since ownership.person at ft wayne toyota bought car to put new engine in and took a scope through it- said engine was full of sludge, metal chunks and it looked like the rings had just suddenly snapped and ended up in engine.
Sludge in engine - japan motor - had the valve seals replaced twice and engine still smokes and uses alot of oil - 1 quart per 1500 miles.have had many toyota dealership auto repair shops look at and all said i need to replace the engine!!

When putting the vehicle into reverse, the vehicle won't go into gear. Also, engine timing belt came off.

At 67,320 miles, upon turningthe ignition key, the engine exploded below the filter housing and the crankshaft was visible. Engine replacement was the only remedy. At the time of the failure,i suspected that the engine failure was due to a defect in the engine block.i did not knowthat the camry engine had sludge-related problems. I have all maintenance records about my camry that show that oil and filter was changed regularly by a toyota dealer or competent car mechanic. Thus the failure was not caused by neglect. On april 24, 2005, i sent a letter to toyota customer assistance center, toyota motor sales, u.s.a., torrance, ca 90501 that described the event and requested reply. There was no reply to this date.on june 18, 2005 i wrote another letter to the toyota assistance center reminding them that i expect both a reply and explanation of what caused the engine failure. Again, no reply to this date.

Toyota selling a very expensive part which fails in just 18 months of normal driving. Part retails for $180-230. Registered owner is john reyes-so el monte, ca (father-in-law). His car is out of warranty and continued replacement cost is a definate financial hardship.toyota motor sales, u.s.a. -torrance, ca has refused to reimburse cost. No safety defect.

This engine seized due to engine gel or sludge. The dealership that i took it too lied about the failure as well as toyota corporate denying any responsibility. It is particularly insulting because we own a 1998 camry that is under the gel program and had not received any information about this potential problem with camry's. We trusted the dealership that we had the car towed to and they lied and said that it was an unforeseen problem and that they did not know what had caused it. I have researched this matter tirelessly and have found that the 2.2 liter engine that is in this car is in fact at risk for gel or sludge. I beleive that i have proof of the sludge probelm. Toyota corporate is denying any responsiblitly for this engine failure they paid for half of the repair under a goodwill warranty and never told me why this happened to this engine. When the engine seized luckily my son was on a city street,, what if he had been on one of the many bridges in the jacksonville area or traveling at a high rate of speed? when will the nhsta hold toyota responsible for the defective engines that they haveworked so hard defending while blaming owners?

All routine maintenance on this car was done by myself.all fluids, filters etc., were changed in accordance with toyota's maintenance schedule either on schedule or ahead of schedule.because i didn't have a receipt for transmission fluid and filter changes which i performed myself since vehicle was new, toyota is refusing to honor the 5 year, 60,000 mile warranty.it would be obvious to anyone who looked at my car that it has in fact, been well maintained.it is 6 years old, still looks like new inside and out and all other fluids are clean and been regularly changed as well.i purchased a toyota because of the vehicle and company reputation.i think it's fairly obvious what i feel about toyota's service reputation at this point.i have sent several registered letters to all company execs, ceos, etc.also, the better business bureau, the dept. Rear brake light bulbblew out.
It was necessary to replace the driver side headlamp assembly.after doing so i noticed a tremendous difference in the new headlamp and the original.the original beam was so diffused and yellow colored that my night time vision was reduced greatly.i replaced the passenger headlamp assembly also, to improve my night time driving.after this occurence i have noticed other vehicles with the same problem.this is something that happens over time and is a serious safety issue regarding night time visibility.
After an accident had replaced headlight ondriver's side . Then,noticed that passenger's headlightwas different and yellow compared with new one.this condition is veryunsafe and does not provide proper illumination for a driver to see properly.

Gas tank is leaking onto the exhaust which could result in a fire.there is a bulge on the bottom of the gas tank which rubbed against the heat shield, causing a leak on the bottom of the gas tank.either the tank was designed to be too close to the heat shield and friction of the gas tank against the heat shield caused the crack, or the crack in the gas tank is from metal fatigue.dealer says that the owner is responsible for determining the cause of the defect. .et.

When trying to lock door with remote control key, it would hang up. Can hear humming noise.also, interior lights would come on & run down battery.taken vehicle to dealer & mechanic unhooked alarm system. Can now open by using key & not remote.

Mid to upper 30's and or higher plus rain, or if washing vehicle and temperture drops the locks will freeze. Whenever temperature is up & down the locks are subject to freeze @ 30 degree and lower, sometimes the key would not fit in key hole.

On august 10, 2009 i got into my 1994 toyota camry vehicle, put my car in reverse and the car accelerated at the sudden and unexpected speed of approximately 50 mph in reverse. This caused damage to the camry, property damage and personal trauma. I notified toyota headquarters in torrance, ca and they had the car inspected but nothing was done to compensate the damages.
Transmission completely "burned" out/failed, redering vehicle inoperable.

In fact, a lexus was being towed into the shop when i was there with the exact problem. I haven't had it fixed yet because it will cost $1700, which i don't have. I am still making payments of $310 a month and now the transmission is going out.i would like toyota to admit the problem and repair it per consumer goodwill. Any advice will be appreciated. 38,000 and 81,000 replace front tires. Shake in front passenger side like anti-lock breaks the car does'nthave them,. Tommorow i find out what's wrong with the trans. I have a friend with a 94 and at 58,000 had to replace it at 2,500.00 toyota would not honor warranty because she could not prove that the fluid had been done regularly.

The vehicle does not lock into park position on an incline. Sometimes the vehicle does not lock on a flat surface also. The prolbem has been reported to the manufacturer. The vehiclewill be checked on 11/3/98 for problems by dealer.

All routine maintenance on this car was done by myself.all fluids, filters etc., were changed in accordance with toyota's maintenance schedule either on schedule or ahead of schedule.because i didn't have a receipt for transmission fluid and filter changes which i performed myself since vehicle was new, toyota is refusing to honor the 5 year, 60,000 mile warranty.it would be obvious to anyone who looked at my car that it has in fact, been well maintained.it is 6 years old, still looks like new inside and out and all other fluids are clean and been regularly changed as well.i purchased a toyota because of the vehicle and company reputation.i think it's fairly obvious what i feel about toyota's service reputation at this point.i have sent several registered letters to all company execs, ceos, etc.also, the better business bureau, the dept. There is a service bulletin #eg94-002 on this mechanical complaint,i have contacted the dealer, theysaid that if toyota issues a "recall" on the defect, they would be more than happy to do the repair.toyota is aware of the defect or they never would have issued the service bulletin.if they are aware of their mistakes, then they should pay to repair them.there are a lot of disgruntled toyota owners out there with the same complaint, and i feel toyota should own up to a bad design!ect

We took our car into a firestone dealer to find out why this car was chewing up tires. This is the third set of tires we have put on this vehicle and the vehicle has only 63,000 or so miles on it. The last set of tires was put on by sam's at 55,415 miles and the have already gone bad. They were top of the line tires at 59.99 dollars each. They were warranteed for50,000 miles.this is the 3rd set of tires on this vehicle at 63,000 miles. I think there is a defect that runs in these cars in the cv axle which is what the firestone dealertold me was shot in my car and i believe that this is chewing up the tires. I have had my car aligned, the tires rotated and balanced regularly on this last set of tires and they have gone bad anyway. This is a danger to the public because the tires are wearing quickly and unevenly in a short amount of time. They are also splitting.( dot number: tire size: 195/0hr14 )

At noon on 6/11/12, i was unable to shift my car's gearshift out of park.i removed the tab that covers the gearshift release button on the shift panel and unlocked the shifter.i immediately drove the vehicle to mechanicsville toyota (mechanicsville, va) and had the problem assessed by the service person, [xxx].she said she had seen this problem before and the chances were pretty high that the brake switch (above the brake pedal) was defective.she said that causes the gearshift to lock up and for the brake lights not to work. 1994 toyota camry had brake failure.consumer states that the vehicle sped up instead of stopping and wants to know if there are any recalls for this vehicle.*njthe consumer stated he was rear ended so severely, it caused the left rear wheel to protrude through the back seat. When he attempted to apply the brakes, they failed and consequently he hit an electric post. When i touch the brake pedal, the reverse indicator lights, and just before coming to a stop there is a shuddering vibration. The shuddering can be prevented by shifting into neutral before stopping.

I was slowly turning to the right into a parking space and had my foot on the brake when the car suddenly accelerated. Fortunately, there was a tree there to stop the car.in the previous months, several of the panel warning lights had been coming on and off. I had toyota check them. They replaced the egr valve but it kept happening so i took it back. They said they checked everything and couldn't find anything wrong. I'm not sure if this has anything to do with the car suddenly accelerating, but it might have.
On 4/5/16, i was driving on the highway in the right lane going straight, i put cruise control on and it was working okay for approx 15 minutes. Car suddenly sped up to 80 and went up in flames from under the hood within minutes.i was able to get out of the car unharmed but it is a total loss.
Approx 20 times over approx the last 2 to 4 years, my 1994 toyota camry experienced either sudden acceleration or lack of appropriate deceleration.fortunately, i realized the floor mat was pressing on the accelerator pedal.pulling back the mat with my foot instantly resolved the problem in every instance.after the publicity regarding later year models, i finally removed the floor mat entirely and have had no further episodes.i am concerned that this happened in my 1994 toyota camry, but the recall has involved only 2007 and later models.the floor mat says "camry" on the front.on the back it says "left hand."under that it says "00208"with a space, followed by "32921".to the right of this is a grid with years 94, 95, and 96 each followed by 12 squares.the year 94 with the first box has a dot in the middle, presumably made in january 1994.below this it says "gb6"the mat has become stiff over the years so that the right side, including the area near the gas pedal, does not lie flat on the floor, allowing it to easily ride on top of and press down on the gas pedal.

At noon on 6/11/12, i was unable to shift my car's gearshift out of park.i removed the tab that covers the gearshift release button on the shift panel and unlocked the shifter.i immediately drove the vehicle to mechanicsville toyota (mechanicsville, va) and had the problem assessed by the service person, [xxx].she said she had seen this problem before and the chances were pretty high that the brake switch (above the brake pedal) was defective.she said that causes the gearshift to lock up and for the brake lights not to work. Indeed my brake lights were not working at that time. Experienced two times with unwanted sudden acceleration with toyota camry '94(made in us model) in may 2011: while driving 30mph, all of a sudden, the speedometer was up like crazy (6000-7000rpm) and while applying brake on it which didn't seem to response and i hadto apply the brake very hard to make the car stop and had to turn off the engine.
With cruise controlon and the brakes applied,the cruise control did not disengage, vehicle accelerated out of control, resulting in an accident.

I was driving down the 91 freeway in ca and all of a sudden my accelerator stuck.i was frantic trying to stop my car.i pressed on my brakes as hard as i could.in the meantime i got over to the side of the freeway and exited the nearest off ramp (carmenita).i drove the streets for awhile and came to a residential neighborhood.sometime during this time the problem seemed to get better.i pulled over to a house with two women standing in front and i was able to stop and asked them for help.once i turned off the engine and back on again the problem was gone.i was able to continue to my destination which was to visit my daughter in the hospital.it was one of the scariest moments of my driving experiences.it is amazing that i didn't hit another car.it never happened again so i never reported it until now.

The contact owned a 1994 toyota camry. The contact stated that the brakes malfunctioned. A representative from toyota inspected the brakes and advised the contact that nothing was wrong with the brakes. The contact cannot remember what repairs were made to the brakes; however, they have continued to fail and caused a crash to occur while driving approximately 40 mph. Sudden acceleration, causing accident.
Press gas pedal it jam car sudden acceleration jump up to 65 mph. Making car side hit other car and then crash into garage.car is total destroy,walk away from accident,but with injury at face, neck, shoulder and back. Lite injury to chest and leg/kneecap.

Vehicle shakes at idle.
I have been driving my camryfor 6 years ,i have to change the idle air control valve every three years. This failure caused from manufacture defect.the dealer replaced the original one at the first time in 1997. It happened again in this year, but the toyotacustomer service refused to replace it again. For that idle air control valve, i have to use the toyota parts, because there was not any compatible parts it could fit in.i think this is not fair for the customers to pay for this manufacture defect parts. Either the toyota should pay for it or the toyota should improve this parts. Customers should not pay for it.
When the vehicle stops at a light or a stop sign and pressure is released from the brake pedal, the vehicle accelerates without applying gas pedal.vehicle has to be put in park in order to stop. Dealer cant find the problem.

A white powder or film substance is coming fromair vent which is fogging up windshield. Also, making it very difficult foroccupants to breath. Consumer has contacteddealer, and dealer was unable to detectcause. Consumer states when vehicle was first purchased, there was a terrible odor that came from the vents, however it went away after about a week, 3 years later and the odor is back when ac is turned on.
Fresh air does not flow into/out of passenger compartmentdue to lack of vents, allowing exhaust fumes to stay in vehicle.

Power steering leaking, engine stops running when going though water and is splashed up in engine compartment.also,two power window regulators inoperative. Sametimeswas told the rubber seal was too tigh., water pump leaking, engine overheated cause water cap (1994). The valve covers was leaking oil in 1998, could it be from overheating ? my son has the same year and type camry and his power steering pump/water pump leaked but was found eailer than mine under 60000 miles.

I was hit by an airborne piece of molded plastic deflected off another car that hit it.. The debris was approximately 3 feet x 2 feet x 1 foot.. It hit the drivers side front window as i was driving approximatley 70 mph. The window broke. There were many little pieces of glass, but there were many chards of glass averaging 3 inches long with sharp ends.
Wiper assembly failed.
Windshield wiper blades does not clean windshield, causing poor visibility.
When it rains andwindshield wipers are activated the front windsheild smudges the windshield.wiper blades have been replaced, and this still happens. Dealer has been contacted.
Consumer's daughter was drivingat approximately 55 mph when another vehicle ahead of her's was slowing down to make a turn. Driver attempted to slow down, and left front wheel snapped and separated fromvehicle. Please provide any additional information/attachments.
Consumer has bought vehicle with chrome alloyed wheels, and the rims have developed hair line cracks that go through from one side to the other. Dealer has been contacted.
