Takata recall - the vehicle was stationary in a parking lot. I entered the car, buckled my seatbelt, inserted the key into the ignition, started the car, and the airbag deployed. There had been no impact.
I stopped at a gas station yesterday morning to put air in my tire and had my son with me , i left car in park with engine running , when done i was putting my son back into car seat , i leaned into car with my back to the steering wheel leaning over the driver seat fixing to buckle car seat when out of nowhere the airbag deployed from the steering wheel and hit me on the left side of my back and now there are 3 huge bruises which i have taken pics of, there was a man at the gas pump who saw and heard the commotion he came over from the gas pumps to help me , its my opinion that the airbag should not have deployed for any reason other than a wreck , and nowi cant get the dealerships to even look to see why it deployed without money because it is an older car which should make no difference , its my opinion that they should always check something like that for anyone that has a failure of such a kind without just cause and fix it without prejudice if there's no reason on the ownerspart it deployed , it should have never deployed without proper cause and now the steering wheel is crooked and the airbag hanging out , please help i have no idea of what to do about this , i own my car , i need it to transport my kids , any help would be greatly appreciated , thank you for your time .
On the afternoon of october 25, 2011, i decided to run the engine of my teenage daughter?s 1992 toyota camry.the car had been stored in a covered area, and not driven, since august 15, 2011.because the battery was connected, i felt i should run the engine for a short period.i unlocked and opened the driver door and sat on the edge of the driver seat with the door open.my intention was to start the parked car and let it run for a short period (several minutes) in order to check and charge the battery.in order to place the key in the ignition, i placed my left arm across the top of the steering wheel, and leaning across the front of the steering wheel, inserted the key in the ignition.upon turning the key in the ignition (1/4 turn-the engine did not turn over), the driver air bag exploded and the car filled with black smoke.the impact of the bag hit me in the sternum, across the chest and left clavicle with the force of the bag expansion hitting me in the soft tissue of my neck, throat and under my jaw.i was thrown back against the seat and my glasses were thrown into the back seat of the car.the force of the impact broke the buttons on the front of my polo shirt and caused the necklace i was wearing to cut my throat.i suffered chemical burns on my face and chest from the sodium azide.i have a permanent scar on my neck. Initially my hearing and swallowing were adversely affected. The impact had a blast and ?stunning? effect.i have had correspondence with toyota corporate several times over the last few months.they are refusing to offer any compensation for injuries and have admitted fault based on the report of their engineer, who examined the vehicle.they have offered to "buy back" the car ($2500) in exchange for a hold harmless agreement signed by me.i find their offer unacceptable.
While driving, was making "u" turn, tow hook touched sidewalk, driver's side air bag inadvertently deployed. There was a lot of smoke inside vehicle. Did not know air bag deployed. Driver was injured.

I hit a car head on and the airbag didnt deploy so my chest and face hit the steering wheel even though i was wearing my seatbelt. The seatbelt malfunctioned also, the paramedics had to cut it off of me.

Will make a deicision in 60 days.my understanding from thurston toyota is that mr. Buchanandoes not believe toyota has a responsibility because the warranty has expired, even though the product is defective. Please initiate an investigation. I am concerned about driving this car as i do not believe it is safe.

While driving my 1992 toyota camry xle 6 on the interstate, with the radio on, smoke suddenly started coming out from under the right front passenger seat and quickly filled the cabin. I pulled off the road and shut off the engine.i looked under the passenger seat and saw a wired electric module which was red-hot to the touch. (slightly burned fingertip)i then called for help and had the car towed to my home.the next day i found out that the underseat smoking module was the stereo power amplifier for the radio.also, i found on the internet reports of the same problem on other camrys which resulted in fires.

If the keys to the ignition are shut off in mid-flight you have no steering or brakes period. You have no control of the car.

While driving was trying to merge on hwy, vehicle stopped suddenly, would not start, moved to side of road, vehicle started 10 minutes later; taken to dealership several times & could not locate problem;new brain computer was replaced but problem still exists.
Heavy smoke began to enter the vehicle while pulling from parking lot. Even after turning the engine off, the vehicle continued to run. The engine finally went off after trying the key a second time. The vehicle did not catch on fire. Vehicle was towed to the dealership where the starter was found to be the problem. The starter had been replaced.
The cabin of the vehicle was full of a bluish color smoke within 15 minutes of parking the vehicle in the garage. Upon inspection of the vehicle by the fire department the origination of the smoke was undetermined, but the strongest smoke smell was at the stereo amplifier wiring located underneath the passenger side seat. There's a recall 93v147000 for this issue but it's on an earlier model.
Wiring harness going from trunk lid to chassis installed too tight; when lift trunk lid, pulls apart; creates fire hazard; no taillights; cannot drive at night.

Record, none coveredrecognized by toyoya warranty.engine and steering and suspension in this car and many others is llisted as significant problems in research reports for a reason. Manufacturing, engineering designall problem areas.driving car at slow speed,had uncontrollabe pull to left and surging car into a wall. Driver airbag and sustained nonlife threatening injuries. Property damage to wall and to car significant. Investigator says most likely rack and pinion steering at fault.reading up on toyota cars with v6 3.0 engine and design of car,believe this car and others share the same problems, so complicated, difficult costly to address, toyota choosing to ignore addressing problems. This car is xample of one vehiclebeen around many years and what ultimately can happen when the problemsnot fixed.believe design flawssignificant and dangerous safety hazard. Believein the v6 engines andsteering design( same design some lexus and other toyota models ) are persistant problems. Onlymatter of time before lives will be lost due to what i think is negligence in acknowledging (not fixing the problems which may not be fixable which in that case the cars should be recalled.overwhelming cost,see why toyota would not want to do that.) unfortunately, doesnt stop problemsrisks for people with these cars. Really believe if get a list of all the cars out there with the v6 engine and the steering desing as in this camry, you would find the same type consistent problems and key to what really is causing them to sludge, blow head gaskets, catch fire, blue smoke, siezesurge forwardpull to the left in a matter of anything from wandering to uncontrollable pulling into head on traffic.problems are clearly noted and repeated in the little time i have spent reviewing complaints. It should be more readily available for toyota to look into.

My 1992 camry, v-6, experiences sudden acceleration when i either put the car into drive from park, or if i just touch the throttle and release it, the engine rpm's increase over 1000 rpms and remain high for 15 secs rather than dropping back in sync with the throttle release.similar symptons with the newer camrys.
Intermittent spontaneous acceleration of engine despite my foot on the brake.it has occurred several times. At first i thought my foot was on both pedals.then i pulled back the floor mat.neither was the cause. This was before any publicity that others had the same problem.

As i was beginning to drive after a red light, my car made a horrible roaring-like noise. My local mechanic said it was the front engine pipe and replaced it. This was on april of 1999. In august of 1999, as i was driving away from a car wash, the car began making the same noise. I took it to pep boys and they said it was the front engine pipe. I again had to have it replaced. Since the original incident, the car now also makes a 'whirring' noise everytime i accelerate.

Stayed hot.garage told me it was a head gasket/cam head problem that was a courtsey recall from toyota.i asked what that meant and was told if someone complains they would fix it.this information my mechanice got from the toyotagarage.when i contacted the toyota dearlership they denied telling my mechanic that and said there was nothing that i could do.it cost me over $1,500 to fix the head gasket and cam.now the radiator fan is not working corrrectly and is related to the previous problem.can you determine if there was courtsey recall and what can be done to make the manufactor stand by their product.

When removing the gas cap at the gas station, a flame shot out of the tank after one turn of the cap, causing burns to the consumer's face, andtank to catch on fire. Dealer has been contacted.
Pinhole in top of gas tank, gas was leaking while driving. There was no obious damage physically. The right rear door has remained frozen since oct.'98.the dealer quoted a price of $500and remarked that they would not be responsibe for any damages to the door.i feel that it is not entirely safe to be driving with only 3 functional doors and am afraid that the same problem could occur with one or more of the other doors.the child safety locks are not on in the defective door.

My car stopped for a red light and i was first in line to proceed onto highway #290. I went up the ramp and my car took off on its own and i could not brake or steer my car.car crashed into a tree and stopped.my airbag deployed.i was hurt facially and i unstrapped my seat belt and got out of the car and sat on the ground waiting for help.car behind me stopped to help and called 911 for ambulance and police using my cell phone.my car was considered a total loss by my insurer.i did not have the car checked by a mechanic because i was advised it could take a couple of years to be heard in court and in the meantime, i would have to pay for storage and would not have the money for a down payment.my insurance company deemed the accident my fault and i have been heavily surcharged which i am in the process of appealing.any information you can share with me regarding similar problems might be helpful in my fight.

In the year of 1992 approximately 7/92 through 1993 i worked in the machining area for the spindle conponent made for the 1992-1993 toyota camry. During that time in approximately the month of october of 1992 the spindle unit where found to have been over heated and had very deep cracks upon where the bearing unit would be seated. Upon finding the problem managers company cars were disassembled for try to track back how far the problem went back. The managers car were also found to have craks in their spindle units.the countermeasures taken place was to put sand bags in the trunks of the cars after they were re-assembled and drove on their test track at their fecilities there in georgetown,ky.. Many pictures of conponents were taken and place on a computer hard drive within the qc dept. Area to do an comparison with other conponents.the failure of this conponent could cause the tires to come complete away from the vehicle in the event that the spindle would have broken.as far as i'm am aware there was never any recalls or repairs done to the vehicles sold.please comp;ete an investigation of this problem. There are others who still work within the powertrain dept. That can verify this story.amount or number of vehicles involved in this problem is unknown.

Believein the v6 engines andsteering design( same design some lexus and other toyota models ) are persistant problems. The hydraulic struts used to to hold the hood open failed again. This is the second time in 5 years that this has happened. Without warning or any indication, the hood came down while i was checking the oil level. It almost crushed my hands. I had the struts replaced 5 years ago when the same thing happened. I contacted toyota on 7/23/01 and asked if they or their dealers had received similar complaints. Their response,on the same day was, "no" (fyi the toyota incident # is 010723-000028). This is very dangerous because it is a safety issue and can severely injure people working under the hood - which is rather heavy and comes down with much force. There is no safety rod or warning deviceto let one know when these struts are ready to let go. I sent toyota an e-mail pertaining to this matter. I will be more than happy to forward it and their response if you desire.

I bought a set of michelin x-one tires in july of 1998.they had a manufacture date of 1998 on them.three weeks ago one went flat suddenly on the interstate.i changed it and took the tire in to the store that sold it to me and it was replaced.this last weekend i took the remaining tires off the vehicle.the sidewall was peeling off one (like it did on the tire that went flat on the interstate) - there was a bubble on the exterior side wall of another - and the last had a cracks around the tread and shoulder joint on both sides of the tire.(actually, all 4 tires had this crack between the tread and sidewall on both sides.)the crack was deep enough to show the tire carcass several places.there is approximately 5/32 inch tread on the tires.there is + or - 1/32 inch depth closer to the sidewalls.most of the tire patch had a depth of 6/32 inch.the tires were 205-65-r-15 size and were installed on a 1992 toyota camry station wagon. Firestone tires fr780 14 experienced 3 blowouts, two of the blowouts caused the consumer to crash, the first accident, the consumer was injured, in the second accident a rail was hit to prevent other injuries.

Upon accelerating in reverse, my car shot back and hit a tree 13 feet from my back fender.it was after noticing that my exhaust system might possibly be damaged that i proceeded to get into the car to gently pull the car away from the tree and upon putting the gear into drive from park, my car then shot forward at approx. 40 mph.i was told by the mechanic - greg fields at bill page toyota that i had a sticky throttle plate, and that is why my car jutted forward.although he recommends that it be cleaned every 30,000 miles due to the oxygenated gas that is sold in this state, thus resulting in a dirty throttle plate- or accelerator plate, this is not written as a regular maintenence proceedure in our 1992 toyota owner's manual.the bodily injury that could have occurred by this oout of control car could have been astronomical.the young su.

Interior rear view mirror obstructs view to the right for tall people.i've almost had 3-4 serious accidents because the rear view mirror in my 1992 toyota camry is located rather low in the passenger compartment.i'm 6'3", and when i look to the right, the rear view mirror causes a large blind spot as it is directly in my field of vision.this is especially problematic at intersections as it blocks the view of traffic coming from the right.please do a study of accidents involving tall drivers (more than 6'2" in height) and see if there is an increased number at intersections involving crashes with cars coming from the right.this applies to many different brands of cars.the solution would be some sort of adapter that would allow us to situate the mirror closer to the roof of the passenger cabin.by the way, i got to this site using google.this should be one of the options on your form for referral source.*la
