Weowned a 91 toyota camery,itcaught fire for the second time only this time it burned to a crisp.i remember there being a recall on the radio before, but thats all.our car caught fire the beginning of the year and we replaced the engine.there was no reason found why car caught fire.this time saturday9-10-00 it caught fire on the parkway. The contact owns a 1991 toyota camry.the contact turned the ignition on and applied pressure to the accelerator pedal.she then heard a loud noise coming from underneath the hood.she noticed underneath the hood that the spark plug wire was detached.there were no warning lights illuminated on the instrument panel.the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic and the helical coil was replaced.the contact was concerned of the safety risk involved. I was traveling toward kokomo, indiana, returning home from a dr's appointment with my service dog, gamsby.there was a harley_davidson trailer truck with a michigan license plate in front of me.a large metal l shaped bar flew from under the trailer and under my car, sending it into a spin and tearing up the bottom of the car.my car is no longer operational for trips out of town. I tried to talk with the harley davidson company and they claimed no responsibility.i am a college teacher, disabled and both me and my seizure dog were injured.harley-davidson's corporate office brushed us off like dirt.it is hard enough to survive with medical bills and little income.now my dog is having seizures (probably due to his head hitting the dash in the crash) and do not have a safe car to drive.i know life is not fair, but in this case i think the larger company feels they are above the law.

There is a short circuit in radio it continually blows fuses in vehicle. Also, stated there is a recall onradio. But consumer's vehicle was not included. Contacted dealer.
Consumer states car radio short circuited and the power antenna is stuck in the up position.additionally, there was an electrical burning odor which only began to subside a day after mechanic removed the car radio fuse. There is a radio safety recall - sscp03, however, consumer's vin is not on recall list and the recall time frame has passed, therefore consumer is not eligible for a free repair or exchange.

Upon opening the fuel tank the consumer felt extreme heat and looked down to see that her hand and arm were covered in flames to the elbow, the consumer says she didnt notice a spark prior to opening the tank. *nlm

Both front doors are stuck in locked position.i consider this a safety issue, as it makes it extremely difficult to exit the vehicle.since there have been numerous compliants for this problem on 1991 camrys, and 1987-1990 camrys were recalled for the same problem, i believe that the recall should be extended to 1991 models.

Driver's side shoulder restraint fails to move into safe position when car is started. Fred anderson toyota of raleigh was contacted. They requested it be brought, in showing no interest in the safety hazard of driving with an inoperable seatbelt. I had an independent toyota technician look at to no avail. I next searched the nhtsa web site and found several other cars similar to mine with the same problem. I contacted toyota customer service to get help. They assured me this was important to them. I finally got the car to fred anderson. They diagnosed the problem as a worn door lock assembly. I ordered the part for ~$159. When the part came in, i arranged an appointment to get it fixed. I brought the car in and they were unable/unwiling to fix it as scheduled. So, i took the car back to the independent shop. North carolina has mandatory auto safety inspections. This car was due for an inspection in july and would have certainly failed without a working seatbelt. The total cost to diagnose/fix this problem : ~$370.

While driving 65mphright rear tire blewout.vehicle tried to flip over, but driverwas able to controll it. Moved to side of road & checked the tires. Noticedright rear tire had lost all its tread. The tire was bald. Tread had wrapped around the brake line & broke it. Called for road service & took two men to unwrap tread. Tire replaced with spare. Took to tire retailer & had it replaced. 1991 toyota camry.size 185/70r15 with 35,000 miles on it. Yokohama 185/70/r15 *mw
Purchased new bfgoodrich tires around may? of 2001 at a merchants site now closed.around july one tire had sidewall cracks.merchants determined it to be defective.replaced one tire at a $10 cost for hazard warranty.about nov. 2001remaining 3 tires exhibited same sidewall cracks.car had about 10k miles on it and rockville merchants determined tires to be defective and returned to dealer for credit.i was charged about $90 or 1/3 the price of the tires.now, march 2002 the 3 replaced tires again have the same type sidewall cracks and some swirl patterns.merchants determined to be defective and reported to michelin who owns goodrich.i refuse to have goodrich put on the car but am being asked to pay about $20 for each of 4 tires to be michelin to be put on the car.my family dr. Also said he had 3 sets of such tires replaced (free of charge) then just bought dif. Ones himself.it appears they are not acknowledging a known defect and consumers are being put in danger and ripped off.i do not plan to keep this car more than a year and should not have to pay to have defective tires replaced!!!other dot #'s end in 2602 and 3501.those are the recent ones.i can get the prior numbers from records.i also can get the specific dates if needed; these are estimated dates. Vehicle experienced sudden acceleration when vehicle was put in reverse.
The contact owns a 1991 toyota camry. While the contact wasdriving 40mph the vehicle suddenly accelerated without warning. The contact was able to stop the unintended acceleration by depressing the brakes. While driving 70 mph right front wheel came off with the hub, lugs and nuts still connected to the wheel. Vehicle lost some control, but was not involved in a crash. No injury or report was taken. Consumer has the vehicle towed to his home.the cause of this problem had not been determined ,and the dealer andmanufacturer were not notified at this time.
