Overnight my 2008 camry solara dashboard has multiple cracks and has become tacky and shiny. This manufacturer defect continues to progress to current date. It is a safety issue because it causes a glare when sun is in direction of travel or sun is below 70 degree plane to reflect off the dash surface. Polarized sunglasses defer some of the glare. There is a safety concerned with the cracks expanding and changing and the gummy surface blending around airbag location which will prevent passenger airbag to deploy. Toyota usa and dealer will repair at my cost with a very nominal cost adjustment about 20% for replacing the dash surface. The car is in excellent shape, always garage kept at work or residence. There are thousands of toyota cars or perhaps tens of thousands with the same issue over multiple manufacturer years. The defect becomes an issue shortly after the cars pass the warranty period.

My air bag did not deploy even though my vehicle sustained heavy front enddamage. Fortunately my seat belt was fastened and prevented serious injury.

My vehicle was parked at my home around the last week in january and the 4th of february 2017. When i started my car it didn't sound like it normally does and the engine light came on. I opened the hood and found a squirrel underneath and had a lot of debris. I found the coverings chewed off the wires some wires chewed into and some hoses chewed.the injector wires were chewed to the #6 injector causing it to run very slow uphill. The insulation under the hood, outer cover was chewed off and part of the insulation.i have lived here many years and not had this problem with other vehicles except one other vehicle at the same time this happened. Since then i can't keep the squirrel out from under the hood of my vehicle i check it often and there is more debris under the hood sometimes but not as much as before. Have tried different things to keep the rodents out from under the hood but nothing is working permernantly. I don'tknow if this has created a safety hazard and am afraid to drive it until i can afford to get it checked out completely. G

Engine is burning oil excessively
2017 regular oil change i was told oil level was extremely low.no explanation given to me.i was told to regularly check oil level between changes. I have been adding oil regularly. Upon looking for answers on my own, i found out that this is a known problem with my vehicle!i talked to toyota rep, and he admitted that 2 letters were mailed to me, none of which i received, regarding repair options by toyota.this offer expired in 2018.i asked for address, they didn'thave that info.so i asked if all communications from toyota could be made by email, they said no.i feel extremely taken advantageof.i always used toyota service to avoid problems like this.customer service is lacking and i feel i should still qualify for a repair by toyota.
Our 2008 solara convertible has had 2 a/c condenser replacements in less than 3 years and 32,000 miles.in july 2010( under warranty ) and again in july 2013. We had no cold air blowing from a/c unit,( very important in the southwest desert during the summer where the temp can reach 110 and over ). Both times the condenser was replaced, and both times by the same toyota dealer in indio ca.
2008 toyota solara.consumer writes in regards to vehicle water pump leak. The consumer stated the vehicle began having problems, so she immediately pulled over and called road side assistance.the next the vehicle was towed to the dealership. A day later, the consumer was informed the engine overheated, because there was a leak coming from the water pump.
Was told a rock put hole in condenser causing unit to expel antifreeze.repair estimate >800.this is happening far to often for others as well.this has to be a design flaw that encompasses many models and needs to be addressed.
The contact owns a 2008 toyota solara.while idling, the engine would stall without warning.the vehicle would restart after 2-3 minutes.while driving 50 mph, the vehicle hesitated for 2-3 seconds when the accelerator pedal was depressed.the vehicle would then surge forward.the dealer was unable to diagnose or repair the failures.the failure mileage was 10 and current mileage was 500.

I own a 2008 toyota solara convertible sport v6. Upon driving on the freeway i noticed the low beam headlight (l) went out and had to flip the headlights off and on to turn it on. After a few miles the (r) low beam headlight went off and had to flip the headlights off and on again to turn it on. I noticed after seeing the reflection off another vehicle that they were both off and had to switch the headlights off and on once again. I'm not sure when exactly this started but if i had not looked into the reflection of the car ahead of me i would have been driving on the freeway with the lights off. This is a real safety hazard. I own a 2001 toyota solara se v6 (12 yrs) never had a low beam headlight issue and that car has over 273000 miles on it. This should be toyota's responsibility for replacing the faulty headlight equipment and not the owner.

This 2008 toyota camry solara, ~37k miles, uses the same headlight bulb types as the 2008 toyota avalon, 9011 for high beams and i had both high beams go out on a winding road in back country of wisconsin with many deer and other moving night creatures.both high beam bulbs shattered during this trip, leaving glass fragments inside the lens assembly and it also left a white discoloration (tungsten deposition?) on the inside plastic lenses of one headlight, which seems to reduce the low beam visibility.nhtsa reference #10037591tsb reference #sb-0044-10 rev 1description: toyota: on some 2008-2010 avalon vehicles, the high beam light bulbs may not work or shatter.this 2008 solara was put into service in april of 2008 and should be covered by the 72k mile, 5 year warranty extension, just like the 2008 avalon recall.how come only the avalon was covered?i believe this should also apply to the 2008 solara model also as it uses a very similar headlight assembly and suffers from the same issue.
Passenger headlight goes off while driving down the road. You have to turn the lights out and back on so the headlight will come back on.
Headlights go out while vehicle is in motion turn switchoff and back on headlights work again till they go out again, safety concern.the daytime running light go out also supposed to be on for " s afety" not very safe.as for dates been happening for almost a year called toyota they said there was nothing they could.
My 2008 toyota solara headlights are really scary to drive with at night. The visibility is almost none. The high beams are like regular beams on every other car. My low beams are nonexistent. My friend has a 2007 toyota solara and had the same issue. I have taken it to the toyota dealership to only be told that they do not adjust and that there was nothing they could do. This is very dangerous. To the point i do not even drive at night, and i am a 33 year old woman. My car is in the shop as we speak once again due to this problem. But not only are the beams low, but both are now nonfunctional. The shop can not find any defect or wires loose. I have read many forums to be knowledgeable that this is a ongoing issue and a manufacturer situation.

When backing out of a parking spot as the gear shift was put in reverse, the engine sped up rapidly, out of control and the car ended up about 200' to the rear through the parking lot, over 3 concrete bumps and ended up on a grassy area.no one was hurt - luckily.was there not a recall by toyota about ten years ago of 400,000 similar vehicles because the engines went racing out of control? many deaths and accidents attributed to it?my vehicle was not listed on your website as having an active recall.

Was reversing out of a parking space in my 2008 solara and when i went to shift into drive, the car lurched several times and then accelerated.when the car took off, i was unable to stop it accelerating using the brakes.a passenger pulled up on the parking brake, launching us into a series of tight spins and colliding with concrete bumpers in the lot.we were about to head out into a major roadway when they did so.once out of the spins, the car had come to enough of a halt that i could shift into park and turn the car off.it was only when the car was turned off that the front wheels (fwd) stopped trying to turn.when we examined the car, the accelerator was stuck in a depressed position.the weather has been fine and dry for several days previously, so the pavement was not wet.as the incident happened over ~15 seconds, we cannot give an approximate mph that the car sped up to, but it was at least 30mph.amazingly, my passengers and i walked away without a scratch and so did everyone else in the parking lot.however, the solara needs extensive body work beyond the obvious accelerator issue due to the collusions.toyota has sent an engineer out to look at the car, but has not given any support otherwise.the engineer informed me that he found nothing wrong with the car, but he did not examine the powertrain in detail.toyota has informed me that it will be 30 days before they give me an official report. While the solaras were not initially included in the recalls for the accelerator issue, 2008 camrys were and a solara is basically a 2-door camry.the recall should be looked at for the solaras as well.i do not want to be driving a car that can endanger me or anyone else on the road. This incident, as frightening as it was, luckily took place when i was not already at a higher speed and was in a parking lot.it had the potential to be much worse.
2008 toyota solara:the vehicle fails to downshift/accelerate dangerously when the throttle is depressed at low rpm.feels like the vehicle hesitates/lags severely.
Purchased a new 2008 toyota solara from coleman toyota in bethesda, md. On 1/19/08. From day 1,transmission is jerky, hesitates, has not power when needed.car stalls when waiting to turn and floods. Took it back to the dealer 2x.
The contact owns a 2008 toyota camry solara.the contact stated that there was no padding in the front arm rest of the vehicle.he experienced extreme discomfort.in addition, the automatic dimming mirrors dim in low-light situations.he cannot manually adjust the component.on one occasion, while driving at an unknown speed in rainy weather conditions, the mirrors auto-dimmed.visibility was reduced and the contact crashed into another vehicle.there were no injuries.the dealer would not assist.the manufacturer referred him to a dealer.the failures have not been remedied.the failure mileage was 100 and current mileage was 3,000.
The driver's seat is reclined and will not adjust due to a mechanical defect.the car was purchased in july 2008 and it has 47,000.i took it to toyota dealership and they said they charged would be $2,000 to fix the seat.after further investigation through the internet, i found out the seats frame is hard to purchase used because of the amount of problems with the driver's seat frame.
The driver seat has a tear in it and there are only 120,000 miles on the car. It torn on a crack in the leather on the seat.also - the dash has cracks all through it but we heard that there was a recall on it. Is that true?the dash surface is sticky and hard to clean.
The contact owns a 2007 toyota solara convertible.while driving various speeds, the vehicle will consistently drift to the right.he took the vehicle to the dealer on numerous occasions and they realigned the vehicle twice; however, the failure still persists.the technician stated that the drifting was a common characteristic for the camry and solara.the contact filed a complaint with the manufacturer.the failure mileage was 5,208 and current mileage was 14,308.updated 09/15/09. At about 62000 miles i had to replace the rac and pinion now again at about 130000 miles it needs replacing again. My 2001 camary has 200000 miles and is still on the orginal rac. The racs toyota is puting in the 2008 camery are defective.
Car failed virginia state inspection because of a steering rack leak and torn rack boot.according to the technician, this could have resulted in a sudden loss of ability to steer.......updated 01/12/15
As the dash get hot fromthe florida sun it becomes sticky and is easily damaged from the heat.the dash has cracked around the radio.the cracks are worse as time goes by.
The dashboard of the vehicle has performed terribly to normal heat, making it very shiny and reflective. During day time driving the sun reflects on the dashboard making visibility impossible at times. At night street lights reflect on the dashboard making visibility poor.when light levels are bright and it is raining, visibility is zero at times.
Dashboard is melting and causing excessive glare on windshield, making visibility poor.
My car is in beautiful condition except my dashboard is melting. It is sticky and cannot be touched, it has become worse in the last month and when i went to have the car serviced, the toyota service said it needed to be replaced and the cost would be $500+. I have noted that several other owners have the same problem and toyota mfg. Is getting away with a widespread defect that is costly to repair. Something has to be done to protect the consumer as this will have an effect on the trade value, personal sell value and also the electronics within the dashboard.
Noticed 6 long cracks across top and front of dashboard and a gummy sticky feel to the entire dashboard.
The dashboard of my solara is melting and becoming very stickyand becomes blindingly shiny. It also has cracks and causes a filmto develop on the interior of the windshield.
My dash is melting and cracked causing it almost impossible to see out the windshield when it is sunny out. The glare reflection of the dash limits visibility.contact toyota and inquiry is pending.
Dash board is extremely sticky and shiny causing driving visibility to be very dangerous.
The horizontal dashboard surface under the windshield is melting. It began about two years ago as a "sticky" problem and has progressively deteriorated. The glare makes it very unsafe in sunny conditions because it interferes with the drivers ability to see the road through the windshield. This makes it hazardous for me to drive this vehicle under present conditions. I have tried everything to remove the stickiness but nothing works. The problem is particularly acute during warm conditions. I believe this is a fundamental defect in the part and should become part of a recall and replacement at the manufacturers expense.

This past year the dashboard began to get very sticky and started cracking in various areas. I took the car to earl stewart toyota in lake park, fl. And they advised that the car was no longer under warranty and they could do nothing. I checked online and found numerous other toyota owners with the same problem. I contacted toyota corporate and they initially refused to repair it as it was no longer under warranty. When i told them i was going to the local media tv news to complain, they immediately agreed to pay for the part, but not the labor. I did agree and had the car repaired at earl stewart toyota and paid the total of $1795.27. I submitted the bill to toyota corporate and they refunded me $1268.65 for the part and i paid the $425 for the labor. I believe this is a safety issue because of the bright reflection of the sun onto the windshield from the sticky dash. Thank you.
I have loved my toyota solara except for one major issue.a few years ago the dashboard became sticky and gummy.everything sticks to it and it is very soft to the touch.it is totally melting and the dashboard has changed to a shiny surface. The bright and shiny dashboard creates a huge glare on the windshield right in my line of vision.lastly, the dashboard hasbegun cracking...first crack appeared between the audio/radio system and the glove box a few weeks ago.
The dashboard in my solara started to melt under the sun. My vehicle is garage kept and is maintained properly. The dash shows nicks if you hit it with something like a fingernail. I contacted toyota as i had the dash replaced and my dealer wrote the problem was material defect. I had to pay the labor of over $400 as my dealer absorbed the cost of the dash. Toyota brushed me off and refused to even pay half the cost. This is a serious problem and we the customer shouldn't have to pay for a mistake by toyota. I know i am not the only person with this problem as my daughter's 2009 camry has the same issue. A recall needs to be done so toyota accepts responsibility for this problem.
The dash of the car has cracks and is extremely sticky. As if it were slowly melting. There are cracks on the passenger side which i feel are unsafe with the air bag in that position.

This vehicle was purchased new by me and for the past few years the sun and hot weather of south florida has caused te dashboard material to become sticky, soft, beginning to crack.frequently the shinny dashboard surface enhances the reflection of sun light into the windshield, creating a safety vision issue.

Just discovered my dash is sticky, has not yet progressed to shiny and toyota's extended warranty ended 10-1-17.only drive the car 6 months of the year, am the original owner and have 54266 miles.spoke with toyota customer experience center and was told that toyota will not cover the $2000 cost to replace the defective dash.they made a defective product and should cover replacement cost no matter when it occurs.i never received the single letter they mailed in 2015.they always had my email and never notified me via email or sent out a follow letter.

Toyota did a recall on the dash of the cars getting sticky and cracking.they indicated they were replacing all of these affected.this notice came to me in 2015. I was told by the dealer, autoway toyota in clearwater, fl. That i was 96 on the replacement list with them.i just called one year later to check status and they said i was #89.they indicated they only get a few replacement dashes a week and they could give me no answer how much longer it would be.keep in mind you cannot sell or trade the car given the cracked dash.i called toyota and they said they were only producing a few new dashes per day and that they had over 1 mill. Claims. I don't feel this is acceptable and i wondered if you could help or whether i should write to the attorney general.
Sticky melting dashboard that throws off a blinding glare.toyota will not replace my dashboard as time elapsed on a recall that i was unaware of.my dashboard reflection is dangerous and it blinds me when the sun reflects off it.
The dashboard has become sticky and is cracking.it also produces a dangerous bright shiny glare on sunny florida days.
Dash has become sticky and shiny producing a glare during bright driving conditions.vehicle was only serviced by a toyota dealership since purchased and this being an issue was never brought to our attention.
My solara has a dashboard that is cracked and is melting.the glare is terrible from this.
The dashboard is cracked, shiny and sticky, seriously affecting viability. I am not the first owner of the vehicle.

This is the second or third time this has happened. This am i started the car, put in reverse, started to back out andas i straightened the car itlurched forward before i put in forward gear..... I've had the car "jump in traffic a couple of times but so quickly i didn't think anything of it. Now i'm seeing a pattern that is worsening. I bought the car in 2011 from carmax in tn. The car originated in il. With 16,000 miles. I have complained about turning the engine on and it being louder than normal. By the time i drive to the beamans or carmax for service no one can hear it. So nothing has been done. I would like someone qualified to look at and know if this is safe to drive to the dealership.

I find it very unsafe because while i am driving from mobile, alabama to nashville, tn and try to use on the interstate, the thing goes way into the red zone at even the slightest incline, and even on more level highway, it tries to speed up and the engine revs too high. I just turn it off, but it is an absolute bummer not to be able to use it. Driving 7 hours with foot on the accelerator makes my leg hurt. My 2003 solara had an outstanding cruise control system. Now with all the recalls on toyotas, i am considering going with another brand, but i have driven toyotas for so many years and always trusted them. I don't even know if my vehicle is part of the current recall, but i do know that cruise control doesn't work and even not using it, sometimes my car acts like it wants to take off by itself, although to date, i have always been able to stop my vehicle and other than numerous blind spots when trying to back it up, i have not experience trouble. But i hate, hate, hate the cruise control. I want a new car now, just not sure it should be a toyota.
The contact owns a 2008 toyota solara.while releasing the parking brake at astop light, the vehicle accelerated without intention. As a consequence he rear-endedanother vehicle. In order to stop the vehicle from surging forward he had to shift into the neutral gear, and then remove the key from the ignition. The current and failure mileages were 11900. Hello, i have a 2008 solara. I just bought this car a little over a year ago. I had reported some problems with the acceleration. Toyota has told me they received no complaints and that i don't have a problem and make sure that i don't just push the pedal to hard in other words he said don't gun it. This all happened before any recall was done. They told me that there is no problems with my car unless i can duplicate the problem. I drive in washington dc and when you stop and goand sometimes when it goes it picks up acceleration and i have to keep hitting my brakes to slow down or hit for a hard stop. This doesn't happen alot but still i have concerns, since at one point there used to be a problem with this. This was not due to floor mats and as i stated this was well before recall. No one has been hurt and now i have to keep a great distance to make sure i don't hit the person in front of me since i never know when it will kick in. This is an ongoing issue with my car. The date i am clicking on below is a guess since i am working and have my papers at home. The date below also is the beginning of all this. Thank you

Rear window defroster does not work due to defect in convertible tops rubbing off wires, known defect in most all convertibles in this line.
The dashboard is cracked, shiny and sticky, seriously affecting viability. I am not the first owner of the vehicle.
When vehicle is in motion on city streets or open highways on sunny days, driver sometimes becomes blinded from glare from "melting" shiny dashboard. This problem with "melting" dashboard began maybe 5-6 years ago and has kept getting worse. The blinding reflections are now so bad at times that we are concerned about having an accident because we are sometimes blinded by reflections from the shiny dashboard.
Dashboard has become so sticky to the touch that it can longer be cleaned. It is omitting some sort of air pollutant that is causing the windshield to be hard to look through. It also causing a strong glare when sun is out making it difficult to see the road at certain angles to the sun.called toyota of orlando (866-945-0493) and spoke to ashley in their service department on or about 11/03/2015 and she confirmed there was a recall on the vehicle and she said they would order the dash the following monday. Have called no less then six times to follow up only to be told the part has not arrived yet. It has been six months now since the request for service was originally placed.
The dashboard to my 2008 toyota camry solara sport v6 is extremely sticky, glossy, and highly reflective of sunlight to the windshield glass with excessive glaring at certain times to cause poor visibility.
