Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)i purchased a certified used toyota car (vehicle vin: [xxx]) on 12/22/2008 from fremont toyota dealer ([xxx]), which leads a nightmare as it's a wrecked cert. Rejected car with 2 tire valve stems broken on day 1 and day 8 after purchase and another 2 tires flat again on may 101. The rear right tire valve stem broke on 12/23/2008 (the first day after purchase) and the tire pressure monitoring system indicator (tpws) was on so i drove the car to the service department on 12/24/2008.dealer claim they fixed the problem and also checked all the other tires and make sure they are working.2.on 1/1/2009, the front right tire valve stem broke again and the tpws was not on. This happened when we drove on highway 5 at 75 miles/hour and we don't even know the tire already 2/3 was flattened!!we happened to look for restaurant at that time and a person coming out of restaurant pointed to us this flat tire! if we did not exit for rest, all 5 passengers in the car could no longer be in this world now.3. Further complete discovery on this car reveals:a. Bondo was applied on the following areas:left fender on rear behind wheel opening area; right door from upper center to bottom of door; and, rt quarter panel in front of wheel opening areathe amount of bondo applied to the subject vehicle, clearly indicates the damage/wreck/repair in these areas were extensive. B.sand scratched and dirt under paint are obvious in many areas, this is the result of a poor quality re-paint job.the re-paint of the vehicle is further evidenced by the paint mil gauge readings from 8 miles to 12 miles. This matches kearny mesa toyota's 160 point rejection. C.the paint job alone estimate (not including the body repair) was over $2200 and yet was this re-paint was not reported.the faulty paint job is a known defect to anyone that looks at the vehicle in the automotive industry.d. The right fender was previously removed.and more.

My passenger airbag indicator was illuminating the "off" light when an adult was seated in my passenger seat. Diagnostics done at a toyota dealership indicated i needed a new occupant detection ecu. It failed for unknown reasons. This was a $670 fix. They installed a new one and it did not work. They then installed another one, which did not work properly either. Finally, they installed a third one and it wasn't working properly either. I was told by the service guy that they were using parts that had "returned" stickers on the box and had already been opened. I was told that genuine, new parts were what i was being quoted for, but the service technician clearly stated that they were trying to install parts into my vehicle that had been returned for some reason. I am very concerned that toyota is installing parts into my vehicle that were found to be defective in other vehicles..? i am also very concerned that the sensors that are supposed to activate the airbag, which is a vital safety feature, are not working. This is not something that should stop working in a vehicle of this age and mileage.

Takata recall. On august 2017 i was in a accident i put my car in reverse and it flew me back and forward fast. My leg was broken and mouth busted.. The air bag didn't deploy. I was thrown to a brick wall

Had a seizure went off the road vehicle hit several trees and air bags did not deploy. Car is totaled. Drives head hit steering wheel and had head and facial damage. Was on city street turning to get on highway, he has been in icu for 3 days. Havepolice accident report..

Dash is cracking and appears the dash material may not allow air bag to function--- has mulptily cracks in all different location in front of driver and passanger.

Air bag defective

Dashboard cracking leading to possible air bag deployment failure.

Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)my airbags did not deploy when i totaled my 2005 toyota solara sle in a weather related accident.i have not been able to get through to toyota by phone, and my e-mail went unanswered.i also, as advised by the customer service phone message, went to my dealership for help.they are not authorized to assist in these matters.i want the airbags in my vehicle investigated.state farm insurance is holding the car in storage for this purpose.contact information is as follows:claim number [xxx]; contact debra with state farm at 1-800-208-3287.i suffered severe whiplash and am now having pain problems because of this accident.

My dashboard is cracking apart and i note online that 1000's of other toyota solara convertibles have experienced the same problem which will affect the air bags as well.

The contact owns a 2005 toyota camry solara. The contact stated that the dashboard was cracked. The contact stated that the air bag warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to classic toyota (8510 tyler blvd., mentor, oh 44060) where it was diagnosed with the dashboard needing to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to an unknow recall. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure and informed the contact that the dashboard was no longer being manufactured. The failure mileage was approximately 115,000.

I own a 2005 solara sle v6 automatic:pulling into a restaurant parking space, making a right turn, the vehicle suddenly accelerated forward: jumping the curb, forward onto a muddy open space, an approx. 25* incline, and into a low barrierwall between the two neighboring restaurants' parking lots (with cars on the other-side of the barrier).fortunately, no vehicles or persons were stuck!; just, the damage to my vehicle!when it accelerated, my foot was off the acceleratorpetal, about to brake; stood on my abs brake; and, the barrier, i believe, stopped most of the forward motion; hit hard; air bags did not deploy !!!nothing like this has ever happened to me before; not in any of my past vehicles !!!it's my understanding that toyota is denying problems with the solara models, when they're the sporty model thecamry !!!dealership said to contact corporate, but, this is not ... Blame it on the driver for incorrect mats; mine are the originals hooked under the front seats !!!this is transmission control linkage to the accelerator petal !?when i backed up, off the muddy hill, i noticed the transmission was stiff/sluggish !!!2nd topic - driver's left side leather seat panel for air bag: took it in due to panel splitting in two parallel spots (possible split leather material, rather than full hide ?too thin for side-air bag ! )toyota refused to fix this safety issue !!!

I was in an accident on september 10, 2005.i was driving northbound on 5th street in santa monica and had the green light.as i entered the intersection, i saw a car going eastbound on santa monica blvd entering the intersection against the light.i was unable to stop in time and hit the other car.my airbags did not deploy.the on-scene officers, the body shop, and the claims adjuster were concerned that my air bags did not deploy.i contacted toyota and they did an inspection and on or about 10/7/05 concluded that there was not a problem with the air bags.they will not give me a copy of the report.i had an accident reconstructionist look at photos of my car and she stated the airbags should have deployed.

2005 toyota solara. Consumer writes in regards to air bag non deployment after an accident. *tgw

My car experiences a lag between the time when i press the gas pedal and when the car actually starts to move. The lag can last up to 2 seconds and presents a critical safety issue which has led to couple of near miss accidents in intersections and changing lanes. This feels like it would if your car stalled in the middle of the intersection and then the light changed or accelerate to change lanes while it tries to flow with the traffic. A technical service bulletin was issued for certain vin solaras which reflashed the ecu to a new program in an effort to reduce the lag but my car is not under this issue. I also find out that many of other solara owners said this was not an effective corrective action. Toyota has no solution at this time and this puts my and others' safety at risk.

Issue with ignition also occurred on aug 26, 2014. When key is removed from ignition engine continues to run and can be driven without using the key. I called toyota dealership and they will charge $90 per hour to investigate. Called toyota headquarters after seeing gm ignition recall for the same issue and they said that my car doesn't have a recall for this issue. After it happened again today decided to see if this is a broader issue similar to gm's.

My passenger airbag indicator was illuminating the "off" light when an adult was seated in my passenger seat. Diagnostics done at a toyota dealership indicated i needed a new occupant detection ecu. The second generation toyota solara uses "drive by wire" technology instead of a throttle cable.my car experiences a lag between the time when i press the gas pedal and when the car actually starts to move.this happens in a specific scenario where the car is decelerating, but then the driver resumes accelerating.the lag can last up to 2 seconds and presents a critical safety issue which has led to three near miss accidents in intersections for me.this feels like it would if your car stalled in the middle of the intersection and then the light changed. Vsc warning light, vehicle stability control warning, trac warning light, traction control warning. Engine sputters on acceleration, feel shifts in drivetrain, from full stop at red light.engine stall has not happened yet but engine seems to want to dye. Shifting in the drivetrain seems to slip and break while accelerating. Lights remain on after startup, with standard check engine

When car moving in a little up hill at 25 mph with accelerator slightly depress engine surged forward suddenly losing control of the vehicle rolling out of the road an crash in a concrete barrier resulting driver injured and the front end of the car body damaged. At the moment of the incident the car continued moving forward dragging the brakes that were fully applied to try to stop the car. A witness driving behind the car saw all the stop lights of the car blinking but the car continued moving forward instead of stopping. The current and failure mileages were approximately 48916.

2az-fe 4cyl engine oil consumption issue. Oil changes every 5,000 miles throughout vehicle's life. Vehicle has always been well-maintained. Oil light came on at 96,743 miles. Received oil change at 96,760 miles. Checking oil on level surface every 100-200 miles. Camry solara has been consuming excessive amounts of oil. Dipstick shows oil going from maximum to minimum within 1,500 mile range. Frequent top offs of oil necessary to avoid catastrophic seizing of engine. Refer to attached document for warranty enhancement program - ze7 of toyota vehicles with 2az-fe engine. 2005 camry solara not included within warranty enhancement despite having 2az-fe engine with oil consumption issue. Vehicle currently has 100,240 miles and oil change was done at 100,015 miles. Vehicle needed extra top offs totaling 2 to 3 quarts of 5w-30 oil between 96,760 and 100,015 mile oil changes to avoid engine from seizing.

Previous odi 10576595, 2 april 2014/ today 25aug2017:at approx. 1910-1915 hrs i was driving south on bell ave. Approaching hurley ave, in sacramento, ca., when for the third time i have experienced vehicle acceleration while braking.the second time, i was driving in the late evening, 2200, to the movies; approaching arden and fulton, same thing, braking and the vehicle accelerated almost hitting the vehicle in front of me; that time my actions of standing on the brake and turning off the ignition key kept me from hitting the other car.this second incident happened maybe 2 months ago!i considered that maybe my sandal got caught on the brake pedal, which is why i did not make an immediate report!now i know for sure that it is and always has been a tautly problem with the braking, engine rev/acceleration problem! toyota denies that this problem happens with the solara!tonight, i also stood on my brakes when i heard the engine rev and the car accelerated, hitting the vehicle in front of me.the vehicle was pushed out into the intersection, but, not into cross traffic!instead of the stuck vehicle crossing through the intersection and pulling over, they/he/she sped off down bell about? tonorthrup and turned left.i called chp and the made a report:ncic 9250 / officer 19071.tried pulling up my previous report via vin# and odi# and found nothing on file!what gives? the first incident occurred during the period of toyota dealing with massive vehicle recall for the same problem; solara's were not on the list at that time, and the denied that this was also a problem with solara's.what i perceive as a problem is that only toyotacan read the black box; and, can claim whatever they want the analysis to be.which, is totally unfair to the victomized owner!!!!!!!!!!!! street speed 35 mph, braking for intersection, engine rev and acceleration!

The contact owns a 2005 toyota solara. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle, the odor of burning oil was present inside the cabin of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that oil sludge was present inside the engine and the engine was replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer and local dealer were not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 90,000.*dt

I took the car into the dealer on 22 feb 2012, at which time the dealer verified the defect and stated "sop pulley" per their order # 751558. After several phone calls i sent a letter to the general manager requesting information and got no reply. The dealer is power toyota at 9101 research dr. Irvine, ca 92618. The repair under the recall has not been done.

2005 toyota solara. If it is driven for 1 hour, engine noise is louder when brake is pressed while waiting fortraffic light.if, i move auto transmission stick to n, noise is caml down.this does not happen if car is driven lesser than 15 minutes.

I am a mechanical engineer involved in a lawsuit dealing with this mechanical scissor jack. The case has gone to trial and been resolved. As a part of my investigation, i determined that the base of the jack isout of specification, and wobbles. The base is meant to be flat, yet all four "feet" of the base do not touch when the jack is rested on a flat surface. Based on testimony by the manufacturer, the base deforms during the final assembly, and this wobble is acceptable. I have checked a 2007 camry, 2005 corolla, and 2011 camry, and these cars all have the same issue with the base. During my inspections, the jack will roll inboard during normal jacking, placing all the weight onto the two inside "feet", using only about 20% of the base. If the base is flat as intended, more of the base if not all would be used providing a greater level of stability during emergency jacking.

Vehicle hesitates regularly when accelerating from stopped position.dealership twice reviewed the vehicles and reported "no codes".we believe this problem is real and unsafe.

The contact owns a 2005 toyota camry solara. The contact stated that the doors locked on their own with the key in the ignition. The contact experienced the failure multiple times and had to ensure there was a spare key due to being locked out of the vehicle. The vehicle was to be inspected, diagnosed and repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 60,000. Updated 07/08/14 ma

Bringing up speed on freeway entrance to merge with traffic going 65 mph of more. I got up to 45 and my car stalled as if losing power, it did this for a few seconds (enough to almost get me hit), it suddenly jerked forward and accelerated up to 60mph at which time i tapped my brakes and the car started driving normally.it also does this when i am in a situation thati have to brake suddenly. It drags before i can accelerate again to whatever speed i am going. When slow in a lot of traffic it almost stops on me.

While entering a parking space the vehicle surged forward without provocation, crashing into a concrete barrier which thankfully stopped the forward motion. I don't know if related, but the vehicle has a history of hesitation and rough sequencing through gears of the automatic transmission. Advised by manufacturer this is a wireless transmission, and that there was a software update, installed 1/27/06. Condition continued thereafter though never anything approaching this. Speed at incident difficult to know and component failure best guess.

Sudden acceleration of a 2005 toyota camry solara from a slow moving turn into a parking space.

Transmision hesitation

2005 toyota solara with v6 engine and "drive by wire" throttle experiences significant hesiation upon acceleration and occassional unintended/unexpected acceleration.specific situations are: 1) in heavy traffic, after slowing down to adjust distance to car in front, then accelerating with flow of traffic, the car does nothing briefly then jumps ahead leading to a potential collision.it's as if it is struggling to find the right gear.2) when slowing down for a curve, the transmission abruptly downshifts with the consequent increase in engine rpm.but rather than maintain speed in a different gear, the vehicle actually accelerates unexpectedly.this is particularly nerve wracking on wet or snowy roads on which one can lose control and spin out.

I recently purchased a 2005 toyota solara v6...the hesitations on acceleration are unmanageable and dangerous...somebody has to fix this problem...before this car causes a serious accident.

Dt:the shifting mechanism in the vehicle delays when going around the corner.when pushing on the accelerator transmission hesitated.the vehicle has been to the service department 3 or 4 times.dealership statedit was the way the vehicle was suppose to work.computer was reprogrammed once.it made it a little better, but did not solvethe problem.the service department stated there was no other solution for this.this started right after the vehicle was purchased.it happened mainly when the vehiclecoasted and the accelerator was pushed afterwards.

Throttle lag at low speed and from stop is inconsistent and has been the cause for several close calls when pulling into traffic. Manufacturer was informed; dealer investigated; states this is normal and nothing can be done, that lag is "acceptable". Some instances have been several seconds before actual throttle response. Driver has to use harder acceleration to compensate when this happens. This is a safety issue that toyota is aware of but declines to admit it is a problem. Driver is very concerned that this issue will be cause of an accident.

Transmission hesitates to downshift. E.g. When attempting to merge in traffic, applying the accelorator, results in a vehicle hesitation where the vehicle begins to slow down, then the transmission downshifts, and finally the vehicle begins to accellerate. The vehicle i merged in front of slammed on their brakes, as did the vehicles behind them.the hestitation has been a problem since i took delivery of the vehilce in mar 2004. The hesitation occurs at low speeds, this is the first time it occured when accelration from 40 mph. Dealer claims this is functioning per design.

The contact owns a 2005 toyota solara. The contact was driving approximately 40 mph making a left turn and there was no power response.when the accelerator pedal was engaged, the engine stalled. Immediately, the gear selector was shifted into first gear. The vehicle was able to continue in operation. The failure occurred numerous times. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer. The vehicle had not been repaired when the complaint was filed. The failure and current mileages were 2,000.

Driver noticed that while shifting the vehicletransmission would down shift on its own, and the vehicle would jerk uncontrollably.driver was able to maintain control of the vehicle, and droveit to the dealer for inspection.mechanic claimed thatvehiclewas operating as designed. The hesitation and the jerky shifting is not only irritating and uncomfortable but more importantly a serious safety hazard.also, sudden shifting into a lower gear causes the front wheels to spin on slippery surfaces which causes loss of traction and loss of steering.

Clutch on 2005 toyota solara needs to be replace after 37,000 miles.

My issues occurred 5 years ago, it was the first year toyota used the computerized acceleration in their cars.this information is important to the investigation being conducted by nasa. February 21, 2005 we purchased a brand new toyota solora by june we sold it.the car failed to accelerate on several occasions by not responding when i pushed the gas pedal. I realize this is the opposite end of the spectrum, but trust that it is relevant.please ensure nasa gets this information it will give them more to work with.i am writing you today because following a news broadcast about toyota my child asked me if i remembered our incident that almost cost us our lives in that car.i have placed this information in your hands to do the right thing with. Vin#4t1ca30p15uxxxxxxcase numbers on file with toyota 200504110025 -april 11, 2005200505090783 'may 9, 2005200505120765 - may12, 2005the issues were first handled at the dealership level where the vehicle was purchased, before i realized there was a serious safety issue with the vehicle. If you have any question i can be reached at xxx-xxx-xxxxxxxxxx xxxxx

Driver side seat belt buckle stopped operating, the seat belt can no longer be used without replacement of the entire buckle assembly.

I recently purchased a 2005 toyota solara convertible.when i purchased the car, it was great weather, so i had the top down the would time i test drovevehicle. .it was only after i purchased it and put the top up that i realized that the visibility out the rear mirror of the car was awful.i've had 2 other toyota convertible previously, and recognize that visibility is not the best through the rear-view mirror due to the smallish convertible windows.however, with the 2005 solara, toyota has put very large head rests on the rear seats that make the visibility significantly worse than my two toyota celicas. With those head rests (which surprisingly are not removable or adjustable), the visibility out the rear mirror is effectively limited to a 1 foot by 1 foot square.this means that lane changes must be performed almost exclusively by looking out side mirrors in order to avoid blind spots.parallel parking is absolutely out of the question because you can't see the right rear of the car at all.i talked to toyota, and was told that others who had driven the car had also expressed the same concern, but that the rear head rests were not removable or adjustable.that was as far as they were willing to go with the discussion.i believe the head rests should be made at least a few inches shorter and slightly narrower.this would improve the visibility significantly.please let me know what can be done to improve this visibility issue.

This vehicle has convertible seats, both front seats and head restsare too large.this causespoor visibility, consumer unable to see properly.consumer tool vehicleto the dealer, andmechanic claimed that the vehicle was operating as designed.....toyota refused to do anything to lower rear seat head rests. They restricted visibility by 1/2 through rear window.

Consumer claims that the head restraint obstructs the driver's rear view. It is hard to back up or change lanes.

Dt: about 4 weeks ago, the consumer noticed the seat head rest were clearly in the way, which left the consumer not being able to see . The only visibility when looking back was by looking between the head rests. The head rests were so big they obstructedthe consumers view. The manufacturer stated there were no other seats and it wasn't possible to remove the headrests. The ownernoticed that there were new headrests available on 2006 solara, but since toyota did not publish this information there was nothing they can do about this. Owner would like to locate alternate head rests for vehicle.

This complaint is in regard to the design, rather than a manufacturing defect. The 2006 toyota solara convertible has a smallish rear window built into the convertible top (as most convertibles do). However, toyota takes this to the extreme by having two large headrests on the rear seat that blocks over half of the visibility to the rear window. These headrests are fixed, and so the driver has no choice but to live with a very narrow view out the rear window. It is my understanding that these headrests contain rollbars to protect passengers, but the design could easily have been more open so as to allow visibility. There were reports in the press that the 2006 model was going to switch to a 'hoop-style' headrest, but my vehicle is evidence that they did not. I do not know that there are government regulations with regard to rear visibility. It surprises me that a manufacturer is allowed to produce a car with such poor visibility. But i do know that it is virtually inevitable that there will be numerous vehicle collisions or worse - personal injuries caused by a driver backing up the toyota solara without an adequate view of what lies behind him. I believe this issues should be addressed.

The contact owns a 2005 toyota camry solara .the contact stated that while driving at 20 mph, there was an abnormal noise and the calipers seized without warning. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the calipers needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 84,000. The vin was unavailable.

On jan. 5, 2012 around 10:00 a.m. I was accelerating up hill at the speed of 50 mpg. When i let up on the gas pedal my car continued to accelerate. I started applying the brakes but it didn't help. As the car kept going faster i went into a panic mode applying the brakes, pulling back on the emergency brakes as far as i could, and trying to shift into neutral or park or anything to get my car to stop. I went off the road at the same time i got it into park. Stopping abruptly i jumped from the car the wheels still spinning and smoke pouring form the wheel wells. I was pretty hysterical from my ordeal but had the sense to reach in and turn off the key. I called my husband and sat down and cried until he got there.we had the car towed to toyota in napa ca.and yesterday (jan. 11, 2011) they called to say they can't find anything wrong and we can pick up the car anytime we want.please help me !!!!this wasn't just a figment of my imagination. It happened for some reason. Do they really think i ever want to drive this car again???i feel very grateful to walk away with my life. If there had been more traffic or no place to go off the roador in a worse case scenario driving the 10 mile mountain road from town to my house i probably wouldn't have. I feel the need to tell as many people as i can to save some one else from this.

Purchased 2005 solara 11/5/04. Had mva on sunny, dry day in rush hour traffic. I applied brakes at about 45 mph and the car did a 360. I hit a concrete barrier and spun around and hit water filled barriers on the opposite side of the expressway. The car did not stop until it landed in mud. Toyota examined car and said they found nothing wrong with the car. To this day i still have problems with the brakes. I had $9500.00 in damages and 2 dislocated knees. I hit no other car and no one hit me...not going fast at all. I am still driving the car although i am afraid but i have no other option.

Purchased a 2005 toyota solara in the fall of 2004. Was involved in a crash between dallas and houston on i45 south after the brakes did not lock and i hydroplaned during a rainstorm. Was hit by a truck after my car skidded into the right hand lane. I had adjusted my speed for the weather and was under the speed limit. Was not ticketed but my insurance paid both claims. Still notice brakes locking when i pump them so i take my foot off the brake completely before reapplying pressure or i mash them to the floor.

2005 camry solara defect was found in the brake system.*mr while driving, the abs, brake and low tire pressure light illuminated and remained on for about 10 minutes.the dealer replaced the actuator assembly.

Rear right tire shows early worn-out, car skids to the right, it can be felt on the right rear again.it's been happening since the car was bought in april, 05.the dealer could not see anything wrong.only the rear right brake plate shows "slope and hill" sign.warp??? it is hard to shift from park sometimes, brake must be pressed again and again or the car mush be pushed slightly.all other things are fine.

Takata recall. On august 2017 i was in a accident i put my car in reverse and it flew me back and forward fast. My leg was broken and mouth busted.. The air bag didn't deploy. I was thrown to a brick wall

The contact owns a 2005 toyota camry solara. The contact stated that when turning the steering wheel to the right. There was an abnormal clicking. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed that the starter needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer had not been made aware of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000.the vin was not available.

While attempting a u-turn at very slow speed, car was hit on the passenger side by a vehicle going approx 30-40mph.when car came to a rest, the steering wheel had broken off the steering column.

Complaint regarding the interior vehicle appearance black graphite trim and bezel parts that are out of alignment. *mr the interior dashboard of the vehicle was lowered on the right side, which caused the dashboard black graphite trim/bezel register assembly to be lowered then the trim/bezel black graphite in the door assembly.the district service manager determined that the problem was acceptable. *sc

I own a 2005 solara convertible.around 5 years ago my dashboard began to crack. It is so bad now that the lining of the dash is starting to show through. My car has always been garage kept and very well maintained.i have a friend with the same vehicle and it has done the same thing.shortly after purchasing this vehicle i noticed thatthe rear defrost was not working.the dealership replaced the convertible top and assumed that it would fix the problem.less than two years later the same problem occurred.the dealership was not willing to make the problem right for me so i, to this day, it still does not work.

I got in my car and noticed there were several cracks in my dashboard from the drivers side across to the passengers side. They are spreading out and are starting to separate and are now in the area of the passenger airbag.

The contact owns a 2005 toyota camry solara. The contact stated that the dashboard was deteriorating and cracking. The dealer stated that the dashboard needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 12,000.

Horrible cracks all along dash board.called toyota and told them i have seen many post about the same problem.they stated that only if they got enough complaints would they possibly do anything.we have owned 4 toyotas, don't know if there will be any more if they don't do something!

Several large cracks in the dash pad that go entirely across the dash and the area behind the steering wheel. Concern is the airbag deploying without a crash. Though i entered an incident date this is just an approximate time as to when the dash began to show the cracking....

The contact owns a 2005 toyota camry solara. The contact stated that the dashboard's vinyl cover fractured. The crack initiated at the driver side and spread to the air bag and glove compartment area. The contact was concerned that the air bag may deploy. The dealer stated that the dashboard was defective and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 77,000.updated 10/22/2014*lj updated 4/21/2015

Consumer has a convertible vehicle, and the top has an odor coming from it that makes him ill. Dealerreplaced the filter in the vehicle and done numerous things to rid the odor, but the undesirable smell was still there.manufacturer offered no help.

I live in florida and have had my car since 2006. Around 2011 i noticed a stickiness and a few cracks in the dash board and thought this was normal. Since, i have found this is a recurring issue with many toyota solaras from years 2004-2008. Now the cracks are too many to count, the stickiness is horrible and the skin is pealing leaving this black under surface that is even more sticky. Also the wood finish is bubbling and chipping on the dash board and doors. So i did some investigating and it lead me to this site. If it's not already, this definitely should be a recall item.

Dash is cracking and appears the dash material may not allow air bag to function--- has mulptily cracks in all different location in front of driver and passanger.

Dashboard is crumbling.

The contact owns a 2005 toyota camry solara. The contact stated that the dashboard was deteriorating. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of failure. The failure mileage was 55,000. The vin was not available.

My dashboard isextremely sticky and is reflecting the sun through thewindshield. I live in miami so the sun is always reflecting off the dashboard. My car is dangerous because i don't have a clear view of the road. I spoke to a manager at the toyota dealership who called about what could be done. The cost is 900.00 for a new dashboard. I am a teacher and single mother who cannot afford to replace this myself. I plan to keep my car for a long time so i need options besides paying out of pocket. If there is a class action suit..i would like to be placed on the list.

We have been the sole owners of the car and have lived in miami, fl throughout the entire length of ownership. Not long after time of purchase, we began to notice the same complaint so many other owners have complained about: the melting and cracking of the dashboard. Although the cracks and shine are unsightly and the stickiness is bothersome, the most troublesome result of this defect is the glare it casts on the windshield. Especially when driving in the direction of the sun, the glare without a doubt hinders visibility to a dangerous degree. It is my understanding that toyota does not cover a replacement of the dashboard. Therefore, i strongly urge the nhtsa to initiate a recall for this part, as i am firmly convinced that it poses a serious safety risk. Please let me know if i can provide any documentation/proof of this problem. Thank you.

Dashboard began cracking and continues to do so. Has slowed down in progress after being treated with industrial aircraft solution. Many reports concerning cracking toyota dashboards listed on google. Other solaras in my building have same problem. Toyota needs to "fess up" and correct this problem. Should consider changing car brands.

Sticky dashboard...glare on window is quite dangerous. Reported to toyota dealer and said that i had to pay for it. I plan to keep my car for many more years . I live in miami and i'm afraid of an accidentwiththe glare.

Dashboard cracking leading to possible air bag deployment failure.

Noticed about 5 or 6 months ago that the dashboard had this sticky, gummy residue and nothing i did would remove it. The residue produces a glare between the dashboard and the windshield which impairs the driver's sight.also noticed 2 different cracks as well.i am the original owner and this car has been well taken care of, parked in a closed garage when not in use.there's no reason i should be experiencing these types of issues unless toyota used sub-par products during manufacturing, which i now know is the case.this is my first attempt in seeking resolution.

Had a seizure went off the road vehicle hit several trees and air bags did not deploy. Car is totaled. Drives head hit steering wheel and had head and facial damage. Was on city street turning to get on highway, he has been in icu for 3 days. Havepolice accident report..

Toyota solara 2005 modelwith 83000 milesthe car was being parked in the driveway.the car was accelerated from a stopped position to move a few feet. When brakes were deployed the brakes did not engage and the car accelerated into the house.the whole front end of the car was smashed and radiator was dislocated.the car is currently in a body shop being replaced.the brakes functioned correctly after the accident as well as the accelerator as it was backed up from the house.

Car was purchased new in wisconsin 2004.moved car to florida in 2009. Car sits in garage for 6 months of the year.we arrived in florida in october 2012 and took the car out of garage.it sat in parking lot for one hour.we noticed the dashboard had a bright shine and was sticky.when you put it back in garage it goes back to normal.back out in the heat and sun it once again appears to be melting. Very difficult to drive with the glare.took it to dealer to have it checked out.was toldthis was a problem but since the car was no longer under warranty there was nothing they could do.just recently heard on the news about others having this problem and was given this safercar.gov site to report this problem. As of this date the car continues to "melt" when outside and no help from dealer.

Dashboard meltdown. I'm the original owner, we never got notice on this problem. Took my car out for a drive yesterday and the dash is disgusting. My car is always stored in a air conditioned garage. What bothers me is that we never got notice so we could protect ourselves and my car.

2005 toyota solara. Consumer states unintended acceleration *tgwthe consumer stated his son was at a complete stop at an intersection with his foot on the brake, when suddenly the vehicle lurched forward and truck the rear end of a truck with a protruding trailer hitch. He could feel the brakes pulsate as the vehicle moved forward. While there was no damage to the truck due to the hitch, the incident cause considerable damage to the vehicle. The consumer did not indicate if a police report was filed.

The contact owns a 2005 toyota camry solara. The contact stated that while driving 10 mph, the vehicle made a roaring noise and accelerated without manual force, crashing into a fence and a tree. There were no injuries however, a police report was filed. The vehicle was neither diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the defect. The approximate failure mileage was 135,000.

I went to back up my car out of a parking space at church.put the car in reverse, and touched the gas pedal, and suddenly the car took off backwards at an extremely high speed and became uncontrollable.would appear that the accelerator was stuck.the accident resulted in property, damage to another car, financial loss and mental anguish.car was on church property at the time of the accidentcar was totalled by safeco, not repaired. I could not find an open recall on this car, but do not believe that should rule out the defect.

The contact owns a 2005 toyota solara. While the contactwas driving 30 mph she attempted to brake and noticed that the brakes would not engage and a loud cracking sound could be heard coming from the brakes. During her attempt brake, the vehicle suddenly accelerated, causing the contact to crash into the back of a nearby vehicle. Shifting the vehicle intoneutral or park gear would not stop the acceleration. No one wasinjured during the crash. A police report was not filed for theincident. The contact called the manufacturer and a representativewas sent to diagnose the vehicle, however the contact was still waiting for the ruling on her vehicle. The current and failure mileages were approximately 40000.

My 2005 toyota solara convertible was involved in an accident this morning. While attempting to park the car, the engine accelerated and my car lurched forward, i applied the brakes, to no avail, and hit a parked truck head-on.my car is not part of the current recall - but i know now it is also defective and action must be taken to correct this immediately.

2005 toyota solara--accelerator surges. In june 2008 i took it to the dealer who said they couldn't find anything. The dealer has the record of my june 2008 repair request. However, the accelerator still sticks and surges intermittently. What should i do.

Dt*:the contact stated while in a parking lot the vehicle suddenly accelerated crashing into a curb.the passenger side rim, suspension, wheel assembly and tire were damaged as a result of the accident. The vehicle was towed to a body shop where no repairs have been made.

1. I put the car in reverse and it accelerated suddenly, hitting another car and a post.2. This happened the one time but i haven't gotten the car back from the body shop, yet.3.toyota has denied responsibility since they"examined the car carefully" in its immobile wrecked condition at the body shop and found the accelerator to be fine.i also, had after market floor mats.

The contact owns a 2005 toyota solara. The contact stated while attempting to brake from approximately 2 mph, the vehicle abnormally accelerated. The contact was unable to stop the unintended acceleration and the vehicle proceeded to drive over a curb and crash into the bushes. The door ajar warning alarm then abnormally sounded.the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the contact was informed that the dealer would inspect the event data recorder to determine why the vehicle abnormally accelerated. The vehicle was not repaired. A police report was available. The failure and current mileages were 57,314.

I was surprised to see how many identical complaints there were concerning the acceleration lag with the 6 cylinder '05 solara. My complaints to toyota yielded no results. The car hesitates when slowing then accelerating then jumps forward. Same problem when accelerating to merge with traffic. Many close calls and snapping of the neck on acceleration. Drive by wire is poor substitution for drive by mechanism.

Takata recall. On august 2017 i was in a accident i put my car in reverse and it flew me back and forward fast. My leg was broken and mouth busted.. The air bag didn't deploy. I was thrown to a brick wall

When driving my 2005 toyota solara, the accelerator stops responding.no matter the pedal position, the vehicle will only idle.this has happened 4 times in the last two months and is entirely unpredictable as to when it will occur.

When making turns (and sometimes just when accelerating), this car and all like it hesitate when the throttle is depressed and then lunges forward suddenly nearly causing the driver to lose control.

The windows on my 2005 toyota solara have problems. About6 months ago i started to hear the windows to drag when being put up or down. The passenger window has a piece in the door now that rattles and slides around inside the door, when the window goes up it goes up too far and it sticks out of the rubber barrier it suppose to seal in. I worry if i have a wreckthe window may not be secure enough to protect me from shattering since it does not seal in itself. I had contacted haley toyota dealership and they told me some people had window complaints but would not tell me how many. Their answer is electric motors break. My 2005 solara has only 28,000 miles on it and i bought one of the first ones on the lot in 2005. I have been told it could possibly cost me $300.00 or more to fix. The driver window is starting to get sluggish now and probably be the same problem to arise with this window.i don't think a car with only 28000 miles on it in 5 years should have this problem. I think i might not be the only one with window problems. The dealership was very defensive about the call i made to them about the recall on the toyota's if mine was included in the recall list. They don't give you any info on anything. I was told back when the recall was done by haley toyota in roanoke va that it was not problem. They said the problem was people were putting think floor mats on top of the toyota mats.just don't worry about it they said back when the first recall was out for the floor mats. This is not good business. This is the second toyota i have bought.

I have a 2005 toyota solara convertible.the rear defroster is not operating.i took the car to the dealer and was told that the circuit board was bad.it would cost $3500 to correct since thetop would need to be replaced.there was no other resolution to this problem.the car has 33,000 miles on it and is no longer under warranty.the dealer said they have only seen this two other times.since i live in a cold climate, i feel this is a safety issue.i feel this is a defect in the car.i have emailed toyota and wrote to them and have not received any response.

Had a seizure went off the road vehicle hit several trees and air bags did not deploy. Car is totaled. Drives head hit steering wheel and had head and facial damage. Was on city street turning to get on highway, he has been in icu for 3 days. Havepolice accident report..

A little over a year after i purchased my new 2005 toyota solara (bought on 3/05) from westbury toyota, westbury, ny the coating on the factory rims began to flake off.i called the dealership and was told by them this problem is not covered under warranty. As the situation became worse i called the dealership again to state this must be a defect in the rims and again i was told they were unaware of a problem with the rims and if there is its not covered under the warranty. Over the years i walked through parking lots i noticed other 2004-2006 solaras with the same wheel problem/defect.i finally called the toyota 800 # to complain and they said this is the first time they heard of this problem.i've spoken to other solara owners who also called the dealerships and the 800# and were told there were no other complaints or problems reported with the solara rims. Recently i called the 800# again and explained to them that now not only is the coating flaking off but also the unprotected rims are starting to corrode which i feel is dangerous.again, i was told "this is the first time we heard there is a problem with the solara rims."i feel this is another cover up and eventually if the rims corrode any further is can be dangerous and cause an accident.there are still plenty of 2004-2006 solaras on the road and they all seem to have the same problem. The pre-2003 cars don't seem to have this problem as do the 2007 and later cars. I have been fighting with them over this matter for almost 9 years.any help you can provide to have these rims replaced would be greatly appreciated.my car has only 67000 miles and i plan on keeping it for many years.thank you.
