Dashboard of my vehicle is so severely cracked from the drivers side to the passenger side, i am concerned the airbag could be deployed without cause.

The contact owns a 2004 toyota camry solara. The contact stated that while driving approximately 5 mph, the vehicle unexpectedly increased acceleration. The brake pedal traveled to the floorboard upon being depressed and failed to respond after repeated attempts made by the contact. The contact then crashed into a tree and a row of bushes. The vehicle continued to accelerate and then crashed into a brick house. The air bags filed to deploy with the impact.the front seat passenger suffered injuries to the left side of her body. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer for investigation.the manufacturer was not notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 33,265.updated 12/04/13*lj updated 12/9/2013

Cracks in the vinyl dashboard have started on both the passenger and drivers side of the car and are continuing to get bigger.i am concerned that the dashboard cracks along the front of the dash could potentially cause the airbags from deploying or cause them to deploy unnecessarily.

Severe cracking over air bag cover on passenger side. Fear that air bags are compromised and will not deploy or deploy prematurely. Also that sharp pieces of broken dashboard will harm others in car.

My husband was replacing door handle when he took off the left front door panel, he found that the airbag sensor has disintegrated from the inside out. We took pictures took it into dublin ca toyota. They will not repair this. I then had some repair work done on the right side of my car and the owner of the shop also reported that the same thing on the right side . He stated that this is a default and it could very likely cause the airbag to go off prematurely or not work if there was an impact , that this was a danger to who ever was driving my car.i have photos and also a report from dublin toyota . I'm not only in fear for my safety but the fact that toyota shows no concern for my safety and how many others could have the same issue. The contact owns a 2004 toyota camry solara. The contact stated while parking the vehicle it suddenly accelerated, as a result the vehicle fell more than 20 feet down a cliff and none of the air bags deployed. A police report was filed. The driver sustained minor bruises and lacerations on both hands. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was destroyed. The failure and current mileage was 84,000.

On march 6, 2016, moving west on a residential street at about 20 mph 10:45 p.m., less than 500' from home. Crystal clear night. Car freezes, steering & brakes lock, car lurches forward and keeps much higher speed. With both arms, i pulled car from head-on with utility pole to very high palm tree. Head-on ith tree, airbag releases, white smoke coming from hood. I turned car off, took keys, car engine continues as did horn blowing & white smoke. It took three aaa trucks to remove car from tree trunk, with steering and brakes still locked. Car was alone on a neighborhood road moving west, driver alone, very residentialwith people walking dogs, pilots and stews running, joggers and pups and cats prowling. No one was around. A guard from a gated community on the street's north side was the 1st to appear. Eventually 4 poloce officers were there, one talked to me often.

You have several service notices to replace the seat covers for the seatbelt light remaining on also complaints on the air bag problems not just on the solara but also on just the camry.the airbag warning light on the dash has come on and off since the car was new. It now is on most of the time. As i understand it when it is on it disables the airbag system which is dangerous. The "buckle safety switch" among other things may be the problem. Toyota has had problems in these areas with other models and made recalls. The same defects may be in other models and they have not yet recalled or repaired the cars. They should fix their defects for free fast prior to someone getting killed.toyota just wants to charge me a thousand dollars to replace the entire airbag system on the passenger side, don't you think this is a little much when an inoperative safety system with your knowledge could end up in a liability suit if something did happen.

Tamara recallmy airbag light been on for abouttwo year, i don't know what the cause is and i'm really concerned due to the fact that i am pregnant. I'm concerned about the airbag deploying while driving and fear the safety of my unborn child and myself.

I hit a parked van on the front end.neither of my airbags deployed.i have had a mri done because of the pain, and have several vertebreas involved.i need physical therapy, shots or surgery to help with pain.i cannot afford these resources.i need to file a claim against the insurance company, orproduct liability form to receive the physical help i need.unless toyota would rather settle with me alone, this will need to become a public matter. I was driving and hit a parked van.the sun was setting, skinny roads with no lines dividing each lane. Personal neighborhood st.personally, i do not remember the exact date.

Pulling into a disabled retail parking space at very low speed, car lurched forward and hit the metal parking pole, damaging the front bumper and hood. Eyewitness to collision incident confirms this. Car was barely in motion and my foot was on the brake. I received whiplash requiring medical attention and injury to my right knee. Automotive repair company states impact was so severe that frame was bent, resulting in the insurance company declaring vehicle a total loss. However, the air bag never deployed even though the bumper damage occurred right at the air bag location on driver side. Toyota solara air bag should have deployed. The sudden lurch forward should not have occurred since my foot was on the brake at the time and barely moving. Pictures available. Police report not possible as they do not come to private parking property. Vehicle still drivable, so it was taken to toyota-approved auto repair shop.

Dashboard has been cracking for a while now and getting worse. The cracks are all around the glove box where the airbag is located. I keep my car in the garage. Very concerned the airbag will deploy while driving.

Time & place of accident 9:30a.m. 8-17-09 toll brothers ironwood model/sales office parking lot. Updated 04/20/2010. *ljafter entering sales models parking lot from watson way, i was braking at approximately 5 mph slowing to park next to handicapped parking space. Suddenly, i noticed the engine rpm's accelerating rapidly.i tried to shift auto in to park position as the auto jumped cement abutments stops, veered right (north) down sidewalk knockingdown small tree in landscaped area, veered towards drivers side of red jeep wagon, corrected towards walkway (west) and swiped drivers side front bumper of red jeep. Toyota came to stop after hitting and becoming impaled on top of stairwell walls in front of jeep. I was transported to chapman medical center in orange ca by seth ring senior project manager for toll brothers and was checked for muscle strain left forearm over all o.k. Air bag did not deploy. Skid marks noted down sidewalk from parking space to stoppingpoint at stairwell.awaiting claims adjustment. Updated 05/28/10updated 07/12/10

While driving 40 mph, the consumer lost control of the vehicle and crashed into an advertising pole.before impact, the frontal air bags deployed.the driver sustained minor injuries.the vehicle was towed to a garage.the vehicle was totaled. *sc the consumer stated the air bag deployed when '!@#$% hit a bump and then it deployed to the size of a half ballon, the dealer told the consumer they all do they depending on the size of the bump.the passenger side of the vehicle was hit, however the air bag did not deploy, only the drivers side.

2004 toyota camry solara. The consumer was involved in an accident due tosudden acceleration. *grthe consumer stated the vehicle accelerated as she was applying the brake and crashed through a storefront window. The consumer also noted the air bags did not deploy.

I was driving on the freeway when, while changing lanes to the slow lane, the accelerator pedal stuck, i lost control, and the car careened off the freeway and down and embankment.the car was severely damaged but i was not injured.

We have a 2004 toyota solara.recently we have noticed several cracks/fractures in the dash board, primarily on the passenger side of the vehicle.research has shown that this is a common problem with this model year.toyota maintains the situation is cosmetic and not covered under warranty or recall.our concern is this is a possible safety issue, as the passenger side airbag is deployed through the dashboard.if the dashboard is weakened by this cracking.would this increase the possibility the airbag deploying incorrectly, thus raising the possibility of injury or death?we have a disabled daughter that frequently sits in the passenger side of the vehicle and we want to make sure the situation is safe for her.

2004 toyota solara drivers side airbag did not deploy upon impact this was a certified used car from fremont toyota of fremont california. Found out later that no side airbags of that year or any new toyota are rated.

The vehicle's rear window defroster, which i believe is a required safety item in nj, does not work. Per toyota, entire convertible top must be replaced to repair window, and the new defroster does not work either. Toyota refuses to acknowledge that this is a design flaw and refuses to replace the top under warranty or repair the window so that the defroster works. This problem with the solara convertible has been an ongoing problem spanning many years, starting with 2004 model.

I was driving to work on thewi 43 freeway (speed aprox. 70 mph) at 2:00am of 09/28/2020.i smelled something burning and saw sparks coming from under my dashboard.i pulled over to the side of the freeway and called 911.two ozaukee county sheriffs and 1 port washington fire truck responded (incident number 20-27928).as you can see from the attached pictures which were taken the next day at the towing yard my car's dash and interior was totally melted by an electrical fire that was so hot it cracked the windshield.although the car has some age on it, this is not something that should ever occur while driving down the highway.fortunately no one was hurt.the car had to be totaled as it was beyond repair.

When turning right at about 25mph, the steering wheel completely locked up. I applied the brakes immediately but they car still impacted, then continued over the curb. The steering wheel remained locked for a while after the car came to a stop and then finally released. Prior to this incident the steering wheel had locked on several occasions only when the car was shut off and parked, although it remained locked stubbornly even after the car was put in drive and the steering wheel adjusted slightly.this was the first time the car locked up while the key was in the ignition and the car was in motion.

The contact owns a 2004 toyota solara. When the vehicle was purchased, the instrumental panel had a small crack on it. The cracked expanded through out the instrumental panel and had extended near the air bag. The contact was concerned that the air bag could prematurely deploy. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The dealer stated that the panel needed to be replaced since it could not be repaired. The failure mileage was 25,000 and the current mileage was 49,496.

2004 toyota solara this car is a manufacturers defect 100%. I have replaced 2 sets of brakes, rotors, calipers both right side. Also both inner tie rod ends and right cv shaft, wheel bearings. A new battery the interior is falling apart and the car is all over the road pulling to the right. Toyota refused to replace most of the parts as they say not covered under the new warranty.

Dt:2004 toyota solara, vehicle will stall in the middle of traffic. Vehicle stalled while driving 25 mph, 55 mph, 65 mph, and other speeds. When the vehicle stalledit didnot start again, the only part of the vehicle that worked wasthe radio.consumer has taken the vehicle in to dealer many times, anddealerstated that they could not duplicate the problem.consumer had taken vehicle to multiple dealers.the dealers had not been able to fix the problem. Told consumer that the vehiclehad this problem before the consumer purchased it, consumer was not informed of this until after he purchased vehicle .

Toyota transmission u241e is rigged with problems. Several of their models have this and it's costly. In addition the ecm ecu (computer unit) is problematic. You will have to fix the transmission or the computer or both. They have received many complaints about this but do little to fix or even help. You can find bunch of articles on it. Steering shaft bolt snapped in half while making left turn.steering shaft was disassembled, and new shaft bolt replaced for old rusted outshaft bolt. Two hours labor.

The contact owns a 2004 toyota camry solara. While operating the vehicle, the check engine indicator remained illuminated. The vehicle was taken to west herr toyota (4141 s. Western blvd, orchard park, ny) where it was diagnosed that fuel cylinder sensors one and two were faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 56,231.

The engine surges when in gear & i have to apply the brakes to make it stop surging forward.

I am the owner of a 2004 toyota solara.at 131,000 miles it has developed a major oil sludge/oil gelling issue on march 27, 2015. It was under their extended warranty program until 77,000 miles & i have carefully maintained it. I change the oil & filter every 5,000 miles.the engine is compromised & necessitates a $6,000 overhaul to get it running. I want to bring this to your attention. I also ask if there are any others in your database with this problem. I know that toyota settled an ?oil sludge issue? for pre 2002 models. They need to go further.i have been in touch with toyota customer service dept. & opened a case file.

Exited freeway and hit brakes to slow and stop at traffic light.the motor accelerated, the brakes were too weak to stop the vehical, and i crashed into the stopped car at the traffiic light.it seemed that the cruise control did not turn off when i pressed the brake pedal.they failed to turn the cruise control off.

On thursday october 9,2008 i was driving home on i-95 when my 2004 toyota camry solara suddenly began to surge in speed, as i was able to cautiously get over in the median lane when it then shut off, i was able to crank it back up with no problem but as soon as i accelerated it slowed down and i then turned it off, waited a few minutes an turned it back on with no problem. Since i was close to my exit and lipton toyotas dealership was right there i took the car in to get checked out, well much to my surprise i am in need of a throttle bodya $931.17 part and $13.?? gasket along with $85.00 per hour service fee. Now even though my factory warranty ended on the 4 of this month, this viable component is not covered under the extended warranty that i purchased when i bought the car. I have about 42,500 miles on my car and i don't drive it everyday. I am very angry that i have to replace a part that is so costly in such a short period of time, toyota is supposed to be one of the best cars on the road but at this point i feel like i will never purchase another. This is not my first one it is my 3rd one purchased brand new, and my concern is this is the first time ever having a problem like this. So i want to ask you to please look in to this as a defective part issue because when i called toyotas corporate office i spoke with someone who seemed as if she had an attitude like i have some nerve to call and complain about their top notchvehicles. I was reading some blogs about "04 camry throttle body failure" on www.topix.com/forum/autos/toyota-camry/tm6gc5t4dhvfs52cs i think that you will see alot of complaints on this same issue, please check the site.i don't think anyone knows much about your site and that they should file a complaint with you and atleast get the matter at hand looked in to. I am not the only one who has had this problem and i am deeply concerned that others may and just not know what to do except pay for it, if the can afford it.

2004 toyota solara experiencing stalling or long hesitation when the vehicle's speed is below 25 mph and the consumer attempts to accelerate.*mrthis often happens when entering fast moving traffic from entrance ramp onto the expressway. The manufacturer stated that this was a characteristic of the engine and transmission and cannot be corrected.

The consumer is unsatisfied with the bumpers inability to absorb a certain level of abuse without sustaining damage.the consumer would like the status of the software update to correct the hesitation of the car to react immediately when attempting to accelerate.the inability of the car to accelerate in a timely manner is disconcerting to the consumer especially when driving in heavy, fast moving traffic.a nauseating rotten egg odorcould be smelled inside the passenger compartment of the vehicle.

Charcoal canister failed at 13058 miles. Parts and labor under warranty, however, out of warranty cost would have been at about $500. Known issue for toyota as service bulletin issued. Dealer recommended to purchase extended service plan to cover component after original warranty expires. Parts and labor should be covered for this component after original warranty expires as issue is known to toyota and has failed in enough new cars to issue a service bulletin. Faulty charcoal canister will cause a no pass on smog check for california and will pollute the environment until replaced. Thank you.

While driving the headlights are too high. Oncoming traffic will flash their lights on and off. Tookvehicle to the dealer, they adjusted the headlights, which did not help. Itgot worse. The consumer stated that the headlight lens had a seam across the top where the plastic is joined.the seam causes distortion and an abrupt cut off of light.*tc

While pulling left into a parking place the car suddenly accelerated and violently slammed into a parked car opposite me.the police said my foot probably slipped off the brake and hit the gas pedal.it was a very violent hit and i was very shaken.not having a recall on my car,i went along with the police until the same thing happened again on february 7, 2014.luckily, this second incident only threw the car into a plowed snow bank.

Pressing the accelerator has no affect on the engine rpms.the dealer said the sensor at the gas pedal was defective.not related to the current recall.he replaces the sensor at a cost to me of $750.00tw*

While driving south on us75 in florida the leather cover (known as tonneau or boot) that covers the convertible top when it is in the down position just flew off the car. I watched it go under a tractor trailer and the car behind the trailer had to swerve to avoid it almost causing a serious accident. I got off the next exit and went back to recover it but it was gone. It may have been draggedaway under a tractor trailer. Prior to this i inspected the cover attachment each time i stopped for gas or food because at times i did see it flutter while i was driving and felt uncomfortable about it. The leather cover is held in place by u shaped hooks that can easily come off when pressure is exerted on the cover. On very windy days when driving at high speeds the cover flutters and can and did come off the car. The cover is a large object about 4 ft. By 2 ft. And when it becomes airborne it can and almost did cause a serious and possibly fatal accident.i was recently in a toyota dealership and saw that the new solara convertible now has safetystraps attached to the cover. This safety improvement leads me to believe that toyota realized the very dangerous condition that existed. This realization may have been prompted by solara convertible owners reporting incidents similar to mine. Unfortunately the cover on all toyota solara convertibles prior to this safety improvement can still unintentionally come off and cause very serious and possibly fatal accidents. Toyota has not addressed this issue and will probably try to avoid it due to the cost involved to correct the very dangerous condition.i request that the national highway traffic safety administration or the appropriate government agency deem this a recall condition and compel toyota to correct this very dangerous condition.

Throttle lag at low speed and from stop is inconsistent and has been the cause for several close calls when pulling into traffic. Manufacturer was informed; dealer investigated; reloaded software and problem still exists.toyota states this is normal and nothing can be done."some instances have been several seconds before actual throttle response. Driver has to use harder acceleration to compensate when this happens. This is a safety issue that toyota is aware of but declines to admit it is a problem. Driver is very concerned that this issue will be cause of an accident.every time car is taken to dealership problem is re-addresses but no fix has been made.

I have serious safety concerns with the way my car consistently lags before accelerating.this hesitation has been consistent from day one of my ownership (purchased dealer new).when the car is in motion,or at a stop, any type of immediate push of the gas pedal will result in a delayed/slow response to pick up speed. This delay has nearly caused (2)two accidents under normal driving conditions: (1)accelerating to get onto freeway.(2)accelerating to avoid an errant lane change from a nearby car.

Consumerstated that transmission hesitated when down shifting. There was a 3 to 4 second delay before the vehicle acceleratedwhile stepping on the accelerator.

2004 toyota solara with v6 and auto trans. Have owned car since new and have a hesitation problem that makes it very difficult to drive. Extra caution is needed to enter hwys safely. I am also unable to accelerate coming out of turns without feeling the car lurch forward making it unsafe to drive in inclement weather. When taken to service at toyota they act like nothing is wrong. I know i am not crazy because its noticed by all my passengers. And upon my personal investigation have uncovered many complaints by owners of the same vehicle and by owners of lexus vehicles that use same engine and trans. In fact it is a common problem in all cars using an electronic control for the throttle as opposed to the old linkage system. I feel that this is a potentially dangerous condition and its only a matter of time before someone gets killed because of it. I also noticed quite a few complaints on this website pertaining to the same problem.

Since purchasing my 2004 toyota solara, i have been complaining about it's steering and how unsafe it feels to drive. Pulls to the left frequently, and the right less frequently.steering is very unpredictable, and feels unsafe.car slides into other lanes, as if on ice...especially when passed by another vehicle. Dealerrepaired a slight fault with some rings being installed incorrectly, it only slightly corrected the problem.steering is more controlled, but car still drifts into other lanes.car also rocks when in a parked position, if emergency brake is not engaged, and will roll backward when stopped going upward on hill...brakes do not lock into a hold position.

2004 toyota solara sev6 sport- vehicle has on several occasions when traveling at "parking lot speeds" or in "stop & go traffic" , or before coming to a complete stop - accelerates without warning and when brakes (anti-lock yet) are depressed, there is absolutely no resistance.vehicle does not stop!! engine surges. Floor mats no issue.first incident 2008 or 09, i had pulled into a parking lot.vehicle surged, jumped a curb & into a ravine.engine was still surging (while down in the ravine!) until ignition was turned off.2 weeks ago, driving in city traffic, (overcast but dry conditions approximately 1:00pm) i was thrown back in my seat suddenly.i thought i had been rear-ended initially due to the thrust back, but no one had impacted the rear of my vehicle.realizing the car was accelerating on it's own, i slammed on the brakes. Again, no resistance, they went flat.my vehicle rear ended and drove under the back end of an suv.upon impact, my knee slammed into the dashboard, and the steering wheel bruised up my thigh.swelling in shoulder due to belt.no injury to person in other vehicle. No skid marks on roadway.filed claim w/toyota home office. They are inspecting the car this week @ dealership.if anyone had been walking in front of this car when these incidences happened? they would be dead.this is a serious & potentially deadly issue.i will never get behind the wheel of that car ever again.not for a million dollars! life is too precious to me.as a formerinvestigator/agent myself, i implore you to please investigate this asap before this vehicle (or others of the same) kill someone.this car (2004 toyota solara {2 - door camry}) is not on the recall list.i am now without a car.i have been spared from broken bones, but i may need knee surgery. Waiting on the results of an mri.please take these vehicles off the road.so thankful my child wasn't driving or in the car with me.filed a police report with the local authorities.

I own a 2004 toyota solara and have severe accelerator issues.the acceleration hesitates at various times.sometimes it is from a complete stop, other times it is in low gear.this has become a hazard in driving amongst traffic.the car will not accelerate properly at a normal speed; as i said, it hesitates, making it very unsafe when pulling out onto a road, or starting from a stop. There have been numerous times that i thought i was going to be rear ended!the dealership mechanics cannot fix this problem.toyota is stating that it is functioning as it has been designed, without admitting that there is an issue..but then state that they are trying to come up with a resolution.i have had my vehicle in the shop on 3 separate occasions since purchase in april.each time they try different things...i.e., resetting the computer, running tests, etc.

Driver is very concerned that this issue will be cause of an accident.

- the contact stated that was in reverse on the morning of 12/22/06 at 5 mph when the vehicle continued to go in reverse and wouldn't stop. While the vehicle was going in reverse therewas a screeching noise coming from the vehicle. Ithit a curb andto put the vehicle in park while it was still going in reverse to stop it. There were witnesses, and they told the contact that the vehicle was making a sound that the gears were stuck.the mechanic stated that the floor mat was pushed under the brakes.the contactinsisted that couldn't be true because of the noise that was coming from the vehicle at the time it was going in reverse and could not be stopped.

I purchased a 2004 toyota solara sle v6 from superstitions springs toyota in arizona just over 24 hours ago.when i started to drive it yesterday i almost got in a bad accident on the highway when someone started to pull over on me. I hit the gas pedal and went nowhere for at least 1-2 seconds. Thank god the guy heard my horn. I went to the dealer and they said 'they could feel it too' but there was nothing wrong with it. I had read a customer comment about the problem just once and there was a reply that said there was some download for it. When i mentioned this to the service dept. They said they checked and there were no downloads for it. Told me that it was operating as it should and there would be some hesitation, then started in on some engineering explanation, and said they have some specialist come in once a month from toyota and he would ask him about this issue.i tried to reiterate that this is a huge safety issue and needs to be corrected now, but got no different reply. I had noted some slight hesitation when i was test driving it, but really didn't notice any appreciable hesitation when i very briefly had it on expressway drive (only allowed about a 1/2 mile then told to turn off). However yesterday when i finally drove it, i started to feel like i was getting whiplash from the hesitation, lunging and jerking around, and then i almost got in a bad accident because of it. Now i am stuck with a car i don't feel comfortable driving and have a huge loan hanging over my head to boot. I guess i will just drive it as little as possible so i don't get killed due to an 'engineering problem' and then get rid of it as soon as i can. I will never buy a toyota again. Big mistake.please also reference this web site with many complaints about the same issue:http://www.autoblog.com/entry/1234000920023135and this web site with one entry and a reply stating there is a fix:http://www.carsurvey.org/viewcomments_review_76023.html

Dt*: the contact stated because of the high rear head rest it is difficult to see out of the rear window.the dealership was alerted who explained this is how the vehicle was manufactured.the manufacturer has not been alerted. Updated 7/13/2006 -

Rear windowis blocked by the head rest. Also, the when the sun visor is down, it blocks the rearwindow . Manufacture statesthat the design meets dot compliance.the consumer also indicated that eh rear window appeared to be significantly small than prior year solara convertible.

The edges of the black cloth seats on my 2004 toyota solara are permanently stained from the rain & of course no one will do anything about it.

The consumer believes the rear head rest in the vehicle are too large because they partially block the driver's view of the rear while driving.

Thehead restraints take 50% of the rearview. This makes the ability to see vehicles difficult when in reverse, increasing the risk of a crash. Manufacturer was contacted by consumer.

Car's design makes changing lanes highly dangerous: the back window is extremely small and narrow, and the two back seats have unusually high head rests which completely block the small window.

Vehicle was parked and without incident the seat heatercaught on fire. Owner took the vehicle back to the dealer, who removed the seat, and installed a new seat.*tc

I recently purchased a new 2004 toyota camry solara convertable. When the top is up the two rear seat headrests block visability out of the rear veiw window by at least 60%. The rear window is small to start with, limiting visability, the headrests really compound the problem. I contacted toyota corp about the possible removal of the headrests. Their response was that the headrests were fixed and could not be removed. I believe this is a design flaw and a valid safety issue, the reason for my e-mail.

2004 toyota solara convertibledesign flaw. Rear seat backs are too high and block vision out of rear window. Very difficult when trying to back up or change lanes. 2007 model year has redesigned the back seats to allow greater vision.

I have a 2004 toyota camry solara and the brakes on my car are not as accurate as they should be. I recently had my brakes repaired in dec. 2009 at sandy springs toyota in atlanta and was still not pleased with the resistance of the brakes. I am concerned that the 2004 camry solara should be researched further due to the brakes. Often times i have to press my brakes to the floor before they stop completely.

I just read an article about the braking problem with thenew toyota prius. It stated while driving on a bumpy or uneven surface the car would experience braking problems. I have experienced a similar problem with my 2004 toyota solara. I was coming to a stop on a rural road that was very bumpy just before the stop sign.the brakes responded like what i thought was the abs actuating. The brakes seemed to fade. After that incident my brakes never seemed to be the same. I have to brake much sooner and with more force then i had to use prior to the above incident. Has there been similar problems with the solara?

I have replaced the brakes, rotors and calipers 5 times toyota claims all wear and tear but the whole braking system is a defect car is a lemon from the start. Toyota refuses to fix it.

I was driving on the freeway when, while changing lanes to the slow lane, the accelerator pedal stuck, i lost control, and the car careened off the freeway and down and embankment.the car was severely damaged but i was not injured.

I have the same braking problem with my 2004 toyota solara that has been recently described in the 2010 prius.i first reported the problem to kerry toyota in covington, kentucky on october 11, 2005.i have a copy of the service report including toyota's claim that the brakes were working properly.i have discussed the problem with every toyota dealer who has worked on the car since i have owned it.none have acknowledged the problem and as a female, i don't really feel like i have been taken seriously.i am an excellent driver with no accidents in 30 years of driving.most recently, on this past monday, february 1, as i drove to work, the car in front of me put on brakes suddenly.when i applied my brakes, i hit a pot hole at exactly the same time.the brake pedal softened and the car did not slow down at all.i pumped the brakes and this time the brakes engaged and the car slowed.this issue has been completely consistent.sudden braking, a bumpy road or loose traction, abs seems to engage, absolutely no brakes.the issue is bad enough that i refused to sell the now 6 year old car to my brother for his daughter to drive.i do not think that an inexperienced driver could possibly respond quickly enough to stop the car.

This sounds like a broken record - car pulled severely to left at time of purchase. Toyota's first attempt lessened left hand pull. Toyota's second reduced pull, but now steering is sloppy. Toyota says they "fixed" it. Car feels "twitchy". On crowned roads you will pull hard to whatever side the road leans to. I have parked the vehicle - too scary to drive long distances. There are a couple other non-safety related problems with the car - sharp rattle from rear passenger side, vibration in steering wheel, brake is soft.

The braking system on the 2004 toyota solara have serious issues. In 2/05 i had a whole complete braking system replaced. Now less than 8 months later i need another one. The dealer or toyota corp state this is normal wear and tear. I totally disagree and feel unsafe driving this car anymore. I have written numerous later made many calls and toyotaignores them all. I took the car and had it inspected at a independent service provider and they state this is not normal wear and something is seriously wrong or defective.

The 2004 toyota camry solara v6hadconsistent brake failure.a very reputable mechanic statedthatthe defect wasin the hydraulic system. Replaced master cylinder, bled brakes, checked pressure according to manufacturer 's specsand checkedout correctly. -exhausted possibilities for reasons for sporadic brake failure. Online research discoverednumerous complaints with similar problems.no solution posted to date. Concern regardingcontinuing safety issue due to unexpected failure, andlow pedal inconsistent performance.

Purchased 2004 solara in september 2003.had it in for service twice for pulling to the left.it was repaired both times with no reason for problem.car performs ok for a few days then starts pulling left again.also - hesitation on accelerator.dealer informed me that it was normal for slight hesitation when giving car gas.also addressed this issue twice.feel that i have purchased a problem car and am very concerned

The contact owns a 2004 toyota camry solara. The contact stated that there was a power steering failure. A mechanic replaced the power steering pump, but the failure recurred. The vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 11v539000 (engine and engine cooling). The contact was uncertain if the vehicle would be repaired by a dealer or a mechanic. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and provided no remedy. The approximate failure mileage was 95,000.

Lawyer representing consumer stating that while driving, the vehicle pulled to the left.vehicle has been in and out of the dealers service department with nothing done to correct the problem. *la

I have experienced a number of problems with the steering of my 2004 toyota solara sport coupe with the v6 motor.this car consistently pulls to the left.further, the car veers hard to the left when coming to a stop just prior to stopping.it is not a brake problem.something is seriously wrong with the suspension.i first noticed this problem the week i purchased the car.the dealer, leith toyota in raleigh, nc, had the wheels rotated and then aligned all four wheels.i complained about it again and they told me the car had defective tires.they did not deign to replace the tires.i then took the car to anderson toyota in raleigh, nc, and they aligned the vehicle, and also replaced a broken steering component that was causing a clicking sound when i turned the wheel.then they told me a tsb had "just come out" about the pull to the left, and they needed to order new springs.i am supposed to go pick up the auto today, but i seriously doubt whether it is fixed, or whether toyota is concerned about my welfare or my investment.currently, the car has 26k miles, and has been to the shop on at least 6 occasions for this issue.

The contact owned a 2004 toyota camry solara. While driving 25 mph, the steering wheel seized and the vehicle accelerated at a high rate of speed. As a result, the contact cashed into a palm tree. The air bags deployed. The contact was not injured and a police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a dealer collision center. The vehicle was destroyed. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 140,100.

I leased a 2004 toyota solara sept of 2003.i am so upset with this car, it drifts to the left,i've taken it back so many times, there is bulletin on this, and they said it was in the springs, so they took the to repair it.it still drift's, i've had the tires rotated, a couple of wheel alignments, which i had to pay.at first they did not want to align it saying that new cars don't need a wheel alignment.so i went through the lemon law.with no satisfaction. It's a lease, take the car back.this was to be my retirement car and now i will not have one.will not buy this car. After paying for the car in full when the lease is up.i am in tears, this is just not fair.toyota was to be such a highly recommended company and all they're doing is ripping us off.i just don't know what to do.

The contact owns a 2004 toyota camry solara.while driving 25 mph or greater, the vehicle veered to the left.the dealer was unable to diagnose the cause of failure.the vehicle was taken to an alignment shop.the wheel alignment was checked and appeared to be fine.the dealer performed a wheel alignment, however, the failure still persists.the current mileage is 7,000 and failure mileage was 10.

The car has 70100 miles. Noticed that the steering wheel makes low clicks when turning and there is a slight movement in the steering wheel. Determined the problem to be a failure of the intermediate steering shaft. Contacted toyota, they said no recalls were on this vehicle. Asked toyota via email on 2/19 if the steering shaft has been re-designed and requested the correct part number to replace the defective part. Car is sitting awaiting an update from toyota and repair.

I've had a toyota solara since late february, and noticed the problem within days.it pulls to the left while driving, and slips into other lanes usually from the right.on 1 ocassion when i was going about 60 mph, it took me by surprise and i slid off the road and slid into a tree, slowly thank you god.it is very bad to drive, and i won't let my wife or my kids in this car it was bought for her.my dealer claims they never heard of this and can't find out what's wrong.i can no longer drive this car and feel safe.please give me a hand.*la

2004 toyota camry solara pulls to left at freeway speeds despite wheel alignment on-spec.has done so since purchased dec 2003.

Im a solara 2004 owner. I'm having the same problem that thousands of solara's owners are having. The issue of pull to the left and what toyota and the nhtsa are doing to resolve this....nothing. Toyota skips to resolve this problem and the nhtsa doesn't care or just they don't want to make toyota to solve this big problem.

Well its about time nhtsa is doing something about toyota. I've been complaining about unsafe steering pull on my 2004 camery solara since i bought it and so have lots of other folks. Toyota has refused to do a thing about it.

Car pulled severly to left at time of purchase.toyota's first attempt lessened left hand pull.toyota's second attempt eliminated pull, but now steering is sloppy.toyota wants to take car and "look at it again."since they cannot specifically identify root cause and definitive corrective action, i have not given them a 3rd "chance at it."i have parked the vehicle and am now asking for toyota to buy back.there are a couple other non-safety related problems with car.it appears this re-design was not ready for market last september.

Dt*:the contact stated while driving at any speed the vehicle drifts to the left.the vehicle is kept in control by turning the steering wheel to the right.although the dealer has inspected the vehicle several times the problem can not be duplicated.

Steering shaft bolt snapped in half while making left turn.steering shaft was disassembled, and new shaft bolt replaced for old rusted outshaft bolt. Two hours labor.

I purchased a 2004 solara, and since the day i drove it out of the showroom, it has pulled to the left. I have brought the car back to the dealership about 6 times over the last year and a half (elgin toyota), and whatever they have attempted (if anything) to do, nothing has helped. They were going to get toyota reps out to take a look at it (at least they said they were going to) when they had the car for 5 days, but no toyota rep ever looked at it, or did they do anything to try and fix it.

I bought this car in january 2004, and i started complaining the next day.it feels like it is slipping into another lane when going over 60 mph, like i drove over something slippery like ice.it also pulls to the right, and sometimes to the left.the dealer acted like it was in my mind, but i now see it has been happening a lot.is lemon law a possibility?i feel very unsafe. *la

Trouble-difficulty steering, car keeps slipping to the right. Local dealer couldn't find trouble. Car is very unsafe to drive.i've talked to 5-6 other people with solara, all but 1 had same problems...pulling right/left.mine feels like i'm driving over oil slick, and car slips into other lane.please help.

The contact owns a 2004 toyota camry solara. The contact stated that while turning right at approximately 35 mph. The steering wheel locked and caused the vehicle to go over an embankment and into the water. The front passenger suffered injuries to the back and neck. The contact stated that this was the second crash caused by the steering wheel. The dealer replaced the rack and pinion, but the failure was not corrected. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 135,000.

My daughter was driving on interstate 10, 5 miles west of crestview florida. She was in left lane, in wet conditions.the steering wheel became out of control causing the car to flip and out of control causing the car to create a hazard and resulting in a total loss. Passangers had to craw out to avoid further injury. Total loss of car and injured two people. This vehicle was issued a nhtsa warning- id- 11v539000. Never received this warning.

Purchased a 2004 toyota solara. Ever since the day i picked it up the car has drifted to the left. Now with 9000 mile on it ,it has started to pull right once in a while.the dealer has re-alined the front end 5 times and i have also had a private shop do it once .the dealer has completed the work which toyota sent out on a bulletin however it still drifts.toyota sent an engineer up from chicago to drive my car, he told me that all toyota's are designed to drift left due to road crown.looking at all the same complaints ,i feel he was just singing a story.today i visited the toyota dealership and drove two new solaras. They both drifted left.i drive this car for my job--30,000 miles a yearit is totally exhausting to drive on the highway.very possibly dangerous.

This sounds like a broken record - car pulled severely to left at time of purchase. Toyota's first attempt lessened left hand pull. Toyota's second reduced pull, but now steering is sloppy. My intermediate steering shaft has cracked and needs to be replaced.it is out of warranty and the repair cost is $500+.a review of online complaints indicates this is a common problem in toyota vehicles.the replacement shaft has been redesigned, indicating this part had a design flaw.complete failure of this part can lead to sudden steering loss.a safety recall has already been issued in other countries (japan and canda, for example) for the prius, although the same problem exists in most toyota models.a safety recall should be issued in the u.s. For all affected vehicles.

2004 solara se sport pulls (drifts) to the left.( dealership spent 3 days on car, performed bulletin# st002-04 including adjustment spring seats and alignment- still pulls left. )agreed to drive 3,000 miles until next service interval & await new developments from toyota )very concerned about issue, i believe there is a manufacuring or design flaw in steering system.i am a quality engineer in import automotive industry with 17 years experience.)

While driving vehicle pulled to the left. Even while driving there wasa blind spot. Consumer had an appointment to have the vehicle serviced. However, the problem was not a recall.

With only 27,000 miles on the car, the steering knuckle on my 2004 solara began to fail.this caused looseness in the front end when turning around corners.previously, my car also suffered from the left pull problem listed on this site.i believe the solara has some very serious problems, but don't know what to do.

Cracks in dashboard in two places on passenger side. One vertical about 3 inches long and one horizontal just above glove compartment running the entire length of glove compartment. After researching online, i see that many toyota solara, sienna and avalon owners are complaining of same problem with cracks in dashboard. It seems to be mainly the 2004 models, but same complaint with 2005, 2006, 2007 models. Obviously, problem is in material of dashboard and it seems since newer models do not seem to have this issue, possibly toyota figured out the problem existed and changed suppliers or materials for dashboard. I feel like toyota owes it to loyal toyota owners (this is my 2nd toyota - 1st was '95 camry coupe which i replaced in '05 with the '04 solara sle) to replace the cracked dashboards since it seems to be a trend in the '04 - '07 solara, sienna, avalon.

The dash in the car has extremely long large cracks in it. All over it including around the information bezels. This problem seems to be a common manufacturing defect. It had been talked about and commented on toyota forums that it is a common problem and also includes other vehicles manufactured by toyota . The response from toyota is "too bad". Research on this problem would be appreciated.

I have many cracks all over my dashboard, especially on the passenger side by the glove compartment. I have 80k miles on my car and it has progressively gotten worse. Ibelieve that this could interfere with the air bags. This is a garage kept vehicle.

Carpet is separating at the driver's side of the console near the accelerator pedal. Toyota dealer said there was water damage that caused the carpet to shrink and separate. Since i purchased the vehicle, i have never had water damage. There is no record of water damage in vehicle history. I was told carpet could not be fixed, however, the dealer did finally agree to fix the carpet and it has already come "unglued." the dealer does not respond to my requests for service to correct the carpet sag. It is now sagging so much my right ankle touches it when i drive.

A little over a year after i purchased the vehicle new, i noticed a small crack in the dashboard and stickiness of the dashboard. I asked at hollywood toyota and got no satisfaction and think i called the 800 number too. Over the years, one half of the entire dashboard has become very noticeably cracked and damaged and now the covering at the bottom of the windows is peeling off the doors. The rest of the interior looks pristine. The dashboard cracked in my previous camry too but not to this degree; to add insult to injury, toyota paid me $1000 less that i would have gotten for the turn-in price because of the dashboardof the old camry carwhen i sold it back to them when i bought my current solara in 2004. At least a dozen people have come up to me and told me they also experienced similar problems with their solaras. One person said they had 2 solaras; one kept in the garage and on the street, and both dashboards cracked. I have made an effort all the time to cover the windshield from the sun inside but it hasn't helped. I hope toyota issues a recall, as i think they should.

The dashboard is severely cracked on both the passenger side and driver side. The cracks have been repaired, but then have re-opened again. They are unsightly and i have further concerns that they may interfere with electrical functions and other parts under the dashboard should the cracks continue to grow. I have additional concerns that the cracks may result in air bag deployment issues. The cracks have been evident since approximately 2006.

Vehicle drifted and pulled to the left.phthe dealership tried several times to correct the problem, however the vehicle continued to drift into oncoming traffic. The vehicle had several front end alignments and adjustments. An engineer was sent to test drive the consumer's vehicle and the consumer was told the car was designed to pull to the left due to the road crown.

Cracks in the vinyl dashboard have started on both the passenger and drivers side of the car and are continuing to get bigger.i am concerned that the dashboard cracks along the front of the dash could potentially cause the airbags from deploying or cause them to deploy unnecessarily.

Cracks appeared on the dashboard.became worse at time went on. It is very unsightly.

The contact owns a 2004 toyota solara. The driver stated the dashboard had begun to exhibit severe cracking. The dealer was contacted and pictures were taken to submit to the manufacturer for evaluation. The contact was concerned that the manufacturer was aware of the failure but had not properly addressed the issue. The failure mileage was 13,400 and the current was 14,260.updated 05/06/10. *ljupdated 07/14/10

The design ( angle ) of the windshield creates severe visibility problems when driving into the sun. The glare off the front windshield is blinding even with the sunshade down. Using sunglasses helps but does not elevate the problem at all. I have tried adjusting seat to change viewing angle but wont help. This is a problem i have never experienced with any other vehicles i have driven. This concerns me very much and makes me hesitant to drive the car in the mornings. With sun behind you there are no problems with visibility.

The contact owns a 2004 toyota solara. While driving approximately 15 mph, the lid for the center console abruptly opened. When it opened, it banged on the contact's arm which compromised the steering capabilities. The contact closed the lid and continued driving. The failure occurred again. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the contact was informed that the center console needed a new lid. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 61,000 and the current mileage is 61,300.updated 01/26/11*ljupdated 02/07/11

Dashboard has been cracking for a while now and getting worse. The cracks are all around the glove box where the airbag is located. I keep my car in the garage. Very concerned the airbag will deploy while driving.

I have a 2004 toyota and i have the dashboard cracks starting 2 years ago now i have multiple cracks all over the dashboard and my car looks horrible i hope toyota do something about this.

Although car has always been garaged the dashboard is cracked and melting and every day the material cracks are getting wider.

The dashboard and glove compartment door has multiple cracks over entire surface. This auto has been garaged since purchase. I am retired and auto is not in direct sun over an hour or two, and i use a sunguard during those periods.something seems very wrong when a car that has never been in an accident simply begins to crack all over, the entire dash literally falling apart..-when it has less than 25,000 miles on it! i contacted toyota, they claim i am over warranty period.

The dashboard is cracking and melting--it has affected the gps and i am afraid other instruments may be affected as well-- the melting causes a terrible glare in the windshield making driving it safelyialmost impossible--this is a one owner-well maintained auto--i contacted the dealer and was told this is a relatively common problem with '04 solaras and a repair was offered for about $3,000.

About 4 years after ownership the whole dashboard started to crack to a point where it looks like a puzzle.we took a ride to palm beach toyota, which is where we purchased the car, and one of their workers asked why we were there.my husband explained the problem and he told my husband not to waste his time cause other people had gone in with the same problem and they were doing nothing about it because it's caused by the sun. The car is always in the garage.my husband was so upset he left the dealer.we are very upset because we paid a lot of money for this vehicle.we have had lots of cars and nothing like this have ever happened.i truly believe toyota should be held responsible for the repair and also sure that lots of other people have the same problem.thank you for any help you can provide.

The vehicle was not taken to be inspected nor repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 177,151.

I purchased my car in 2004, new from lipton toyota. After the warranty expired, the dashboard keeps melting and peeling and cracking.i complained to lipton toyota to no avail.it is really unfair to pay so much for something and have it falling apart in a matter of years.i think toyota should own this claim and fix my car.

I have a garage kept convertible and recently the entire dash has cracked above the steering wheel (from left side all the way to the right side). Also above the glove compartment it is cracked. There are thousands of people complaining about this same issue on google.com (i entered solara cracked dash). I took it in to my local toyota dealership and they said "no recall on this item and they handed me a repair estimate of approx. $2200". Next i filed a complaint with toyota and their answer was "there is no recall and no assistance on the repair will be given at this time". I would like to see the government take some action on this vehicle defect. Also please tell me if a class action lawsuit has been filed that i can join. Thank you.

Hi --i am very concerned about the safety of my 2004 toyota camry solara i purchased from ira toyota.the car has had a constant pulling to the left and they have repurchased 1 camry solara from me already.after stating that it was "1 bad car" and that they "had problems with the sport suspension", i purchased an sle without the sport suspension.i am having the same problem and they have told me that it is the 'crown of the road', not the car.the car will go from the left lane to the median strip in less than 1 second and they said that happens with 'all cars'.i have driven 4 separate cars, 2 of which i have had to rent because toyota won't/can't fix the problem and the car is unsafe for highway travel.please tell me how i can have the car fixed or, again, repurchased.it seems unfair that literally hundreds of people on various web sites (toyota's own, edmunds.com, yahoo.com) have the same problem and the manufacturer is not required to fix it and can blame the 'road crown' for the problems with their car.nm

2004 toyota solara pulls to the left. The car has 28,000 miles on it and i see where my second set of tiers are near ruined do to the issue. Repeated alignments have not resolved the issue--which toyota is aware of (st002-04).

Car pulls to the left.it is very severe at highway speeds.the car seems to be fighting for control.you have to constantly steer right to avoid driving into oncoming traffic on the highway.

Dt*:the contact stated while driving at any speed the vehicle drifts to the left.the vehicle is kept in control by turning the steering wheel to the right.although the dealer has inspected the vehicle several times the problem can not be duplicated.

My husband and i just recently bought a 2004 solara. At first everything was good then the tire pressure light came on and would never turn off. That has been going on for like 4 months now. The big incident/problem is i was driving 10mph and the car started to drift to the right. I attempted to correct this issue by turning the steering wheel to the left but it would not correct. So i slowly pushed on the brakes and it would not stop. What finally stopped me was the wheel fell off. Yes the wheel fell off. And due to the fact that the wheel fell off i ended up sideswiping 2 cars in the process of trying to get the car to stop. When the police got there they said it was a mechanical failure and that the tire rod had snapped way before i sideswiped the first car cause he found a snapped bolt and parts 3 feet away from the first vehicle. Then he told me that the same thing happened to someone else a few days ago and that the car is unsafe. I had 3 babies in the car ranging in age from 2 1/2 to 6 weeks old. I am very unhappy cause the car is totaled and it was not even my fault. The accident report was made out and in it it says it was a mechanical failure and that the airbags did not deploy so i was not speeding in a residential area. I just think about it now and thank god it happened ina neighborhood and not on the street for if it had i would probably ran into the gas station right outside of my neighborhood. I feel this car is very unsafe and that the tire rods and suspension should be checked regularly . The sad part is it had just gone in for servicing about 2 weeks ago and they said nothing was wrong. I just wish i had known this car does that and that it had as many problems as it did before i bought it. I feel since it was a mechanical failure toyota dealership should have to pay for it and not me because it was not my doing it was the cars.seeing as how it just happened i do not know if it will be fixed.

The contact owns a 2004 toyota solara. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the tpms indicated that the tire pressure was low however, upon investigation the tires were at the correct tire pressure. The contact stated that the tire pressure warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and referred the contact to the local dealer for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 103,000.

Tire warning light will not reset.continually goes offand comes back on, reset procedures are complicated and do not work.have checked tire pressure, now simply disregarding the tire light.

Tire pressure warning light goes off periodically and the vehicle was taken to dealership to reset the system which did not work three times. Reset procedures are complicated, time consuming and do not work. I have checked tire pressure for safety and its check out ok.

Cracking and melting dashboard. Toyota put out an extended warranty to cover the replacement. The problem i have...i received the first letter stating the problem, but it stated a second letter will be sent, with notification when the parts will be available, i never received the second letter. As time went by, i forgot about going to a dealer rather than wait for the letter. A big mistake, i learned today dec 22, 2017, the deadline was may 31, 2017. The problem does exist, so why, because i never followed up on a letter i never received, be rejected. I called toyota and was given a complaint # 1712221373, but was also told, because of the missed deadline, there was nothing they could do. I seek further help.

While driving my 04 toyota solara at 45mph there was a very loud noise the sunroof exploded causing glass to fly all over the inside of the car, into the street, and hit the back of my trunk chipping the paint. The screen was open, but the sunroof was closed at the time. If my children were in the backseat at the time they would of been injured by the glass. There was nothing in the road it was a nice sunny day when it happened. I first called toyota they opened a case and responded saying at this time toyota is not doing a recall on this or has there been a class action lawsuit against them. I submitted pictures to them and filed a case. Something has to be done about this i was so shaken after this happened and can't stop thinking what could of happened if my kids were in the car that day. Toyota needs to take responsibility for their defective sunroofs before this happens to more people.

Dashboard melting ' i just noticed my dashboard melting yesterday and contacted toyota today. I was told that the warranty enhancement for this problem expired less than a year ago, and that they were sorry, but they are not willing to help me. I keep my car in a partially climate-controlled garage and drive only a few thousand miles a year. Therefore, my car is having delayed symptoms of the melting dashboard problem. Because i took extraordinary steps to protect my car, i am being excluded from the warranty program. This boils down to two safety problems: 1. Toyota cannot or will not tell me the material of the dashboard, but i suspect it is a petroleum-based plastic vinyl.therefore, the oozing substance is quite possibly an endocrine disruptor. No one should not be exposed to this toxic substance. They refuse to help me replace it, and refuse to tell me how to clean it, but share my concerns and offer their sorrow. 2. The glare from the melting dashboard is a driving hazard. I get a terrible reflection in my windshield and can easily mistake what it real vs a reflection, and is worse adverse weather conditions.it presents a safety hazard to occupants and pedestrians, and adversely affects my ability to operate the vehicle in the safest manner.i have purchased 9 toyotas, yet this is my 1st issue and request for safety repair. I guess loyalty only goes one way. I am very concerned about my health and safety.

On 09/20/08 i drove my 2004 toyota solara to a greek festival on mountainview avenue in santa rosa.i was directed to park my car in the parking field.i accelerated slightly to go over a small bump and the motor roared out of control.i had to quickly throw it into another gear to kill the motor.when i restarted the car it seemed to be ok. It was a very frightening experience.on 9/22/08 i took it to the freeman toyota dealership in santa rosa. A representative took me out for a ride in my car and was unable to reproduce the problem with my car.they did not make out a report on the incident.no one at the dealership seemed very concerned.

What auto manufacturer has more manufacturer defects than all the other auto manufacturers?

I purchased my car new and have done all the servicing required.my car has been garaged and i work from home.the dashboard started cracking and if you scratch it with your fingernail, it peels off!it has progressively been getting worse and i am fearing it is affecting other parts of the car.it literally seems like it is falling apart.i think there is something seriously wrong here and think it should be investigated and recalled.

Dash has completely cracked and continues to splinter off. I have seen many with the same problems as well.

I was driving on the freeway when, while changing lanes to the slow lane, the accelerator pedal stuck, i lost control, and the car careened off the freeway and down and embankment.the car was severely damaged but i was not injured.

My 2004 toyota solara sle v6 exhibits severe throttle lag at speeds lower than 50 mph.the lag is at its worst while decelerating and then accelerating, with a lag of up to 1-2 seconds.the lag is also severe from a stop or from a rolling speed of 10 mph or less; to compensate for the lag, it is natural for the driver to press the gas pedal even further and when the vehicle finally decides to respond, it responds with rapid acceleration.this is a safety issue and has nearly caused several accidents throughout my 3 years of ownership.toyota issued a tsb for new programming for the ecu/ect and it has failed to fix the problem.

There is a lag in the transmission downshift when the car is at slow speed.it is extremely dangerous when getting on ramp to the freeway.in addition the car pulls to the left all the time.*mr

I was in the process of parking my car in a parking garage when it suddenly started accelerating and hit the concrete wall of the garage.the car was drivable, but after getting it inspected, it was found to have significant frame damage and was totaled by my insurance company.

Throttle lag at low speed and from stop is inconsistent and has been the cause for several close calls when pulling into traffic. Some instances have been several seconds before actual throttle response. Driver has to use harder acceleration to compensate when this happens. This is a safety issue that toyota is aware of but declines to admit it is a problem. Driver is very concerned that this issue will be cause of an accident. Was provided supposed "update" to car computer, but same problem exists. Dealership stated that "update" does not help entirely.

I have a 2004 toyota solara, like a camry, i purchased the vehicle from the st. Cloud, mn toyota dealership in the summer of 2009. I complained of an occasional sudden acceleration when i would shift into drive. They said to bring it in, i did, they said they could not find anything wrong. This has happened four to five times total since i have owned the car. I have not had any accidents to date.

The vehicle stalls when gas is applied or it jerks when going from low speeds to high speeds, after gas is applied.the vehicle also hesitates to accelerate after full stops.i went to a toyota camry dealer, sansone toyota located at 90-100 route 1 north in avenel, nj 07001.they found that the car is shifting abnormally and so they updated calibration software in the vehicle.after service at sansone toyota, the car still jerks when switching from low speeds (like 20 mph) to higher speeds (like 60 mph). Sometimes it jerks very violently and it always hesitates when gas is applied, after full stops (like at a stop sign ora red light).in addition, the vehicle sometimes accelerates, a little, when i apply breaks with the intend to slow down. A couple mechanics i went to say that the vehicle may need a new transmission, but i have read complaints on this site that a lot of toyota vehicles may have acceleration problems.some 2004 toyota camry solara vehicles have been recalled for speed control problems. I don't wan to invest into a transmission if the car will have the same issue.my vin was not included in the recall.i need to know if my 2004 toyota solarashould have been included in the original recall.

On september 28, 2009 my mother was driving her 2004 toyota solara and had an accident. The car jumped the curb, hit a tree, a lamp post, and crashed into a stone sign. She was taken to the hospital where they found a large bruise on her arm. The doctors sent her for a scan right away, but she had a stroke and never recovered. She died four days later. I realize that the current toyota accelerator recall does not involve the solara at this time, but our family is now suspicious. A cause of my mother's accident has not be determined. She died before the police were able to ask her about the accident. The car is still smashed up and has not been repaired. February 1, 2017, turning into a parking lot at 700 e. Main st., grass valley, ca, turned right into a parking space and as the brake was applied, the car surged forward, jumping a cement curb, the fender grazing a tree on the left, coming to an abrupt stop when it hit the cement base of a light pole. Fluids were leaking from beneath the car, the front bumper was hanging off, the driver side door caught as it was opened. The car was towed to a body shop. This was the second incident, with the same event occurring 2 years prior but with less surge and no car body damage. Both incidents reported to toyota immediately. Toyota investigated and both times found no cause forthe unintended acceleration. Since the car hit a stationary object i am found "at fault" by my insurance, which is annoying. I did not have the car repaired since it is clearly unsafe. Today, may 1, 2017, a salvage company picked up the car to be used solely for parts. The car is in otherwise excellent condition, but i could not place another human being in jeopardy by repairing and selling it, nor could i ever feel safe again driving the car.

To whom this may concern,my 2004 toyota solara experienced unintended (runaway) acceleration in the parking lot of a local restaurant this past sunday. Placing my foot on the break did not stop this vehicle. The vehicle did stop when it ran into a large rock. No one was injured this time. The floor mat was not the cause of this problem. Does toyota have any solution/recall for this problem? if not, does toyota have any plans on correcting this problem in the near future? a quick response to my questions would be greatly appreciated. After several moments, the engine exhibited an increase in rpms and the vehicle independently accelerated to 50 mph. The contact stated that the brakes were depressed the entire time. The contact was able to stop the unintended acceleration by shutting the ignition off. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where the throttle body assembly was replaced.the failure mileage was 62,200 and the current mileage was 62,300.

The failure mileage and current mileages were 103000.

Rear windowis blocked by the head rest. Also, the when the sun visor is down, it blocks the rearwindow . Manufacture statesthat the design meets dot compliance.the consumer also indicated that eh rear window appeared to be significantly small than prior year solara convertible.

I am the author of consumer complaint: odi case number: 10253724, relating to sun glare on my 2004 solara. About 5,000 miles ago i purchased black felt from a local fabric store and covered the top portion of the dash board, where the sun hits, using double sided tape. It is now like looking through new glass. There is no more glare, even now in the middle of summer. I still believe toyota should make some type of dash cover available, though.

Additional info regarding odi case number: 10142658, sun glare on 2004 toyota solara. The problem appears to be the reflection of sheen on the dashboard back onto the inside of the windshield, much like a projection screen. In certain cases i have "lost" other vehicles in the glare. The dealership suggested i purchase a dashboard cover. It seems toyota should come up with some type of fix, not aftermarket vendors and not at my expense. This has been an ongoing problem on sunny days.

Car's design makes changing lanes highly dangerous: the back window is extremely small and narrow, and the two back seats have unusually high head rests which completely block the small window.

I am reporting this due to the recall on the 2004 corolla for defective passenger window mechanism. I have a 2004 solara that experienced the same failure. Toyota refused to fix the problem, even with an extended warranty. The window, when rolled up would not stop because part of the window mechanism came loose and fell off.

I need your help on problems and laws governing new cars. I just took delivery of my 2004 toyota solara convertible. The problem is an obstructed view out of my rearview mirror. There is only a 12" width between the two large headrests on the back seat. I have blind spots that i cannot pick up with either my side mirrors or my rearview mirror. I have been to the north carolina highway patrol. As the law is written, had i loaded my car to block the view in this manner, i would be in violation. However, a car can be constructed with an obstructed view. Apparently, my toyota is not the only car designed with an obstructed view. Friends of mine who drive vans tell me they also cannot see well out of their rearview mirrors.please help.there should be a law governing manufactures to provide proper view for passenger cars.

I have a 2004 toyota solara with a moonroof. As i was driving this evening the moonroof suddenly exploded. The moonroof was bowed upward and small fragments of glass fell into the driving compartment. There was no forewarning.

There is a haze on my windshield and interior windows. I have cleaned the windows but the haze reappears. Dealer says the problem is "vinyl out gassing per toyota tech assistance. Dealer says problem could last from 6 months to a year and the problem can not be corrected. The haze impairs my vision especially at dusk and at night. The problem substantially impairs the use and market value of the vehicle. The "gassing" problem is also a health issue. I will not drive at night becuase of the vision problem.i rarely drive during the day and only with the convertible top down because of the "gassing" problem.
