Air bag light has been looked at numerous times now that my regular warranty has expired, i had to look at my extended warranty for coverage and they do not replace air bag sensors.they supposedly fixed it at 30,000 miles but it reoccured at 45,000 miles.now they say they will pay for the part but not the labor.shouldn't this be paid by the manufacturer completely since it is a safety factor?
Dealership says the water from the stopped up a/c drain caused the electrical short and it will cost almost $800.00 to repair. I do not have $800.00. The mechanic told me the airbag could possibly deploy without notice and that puts everyone at risk when driving or riding in the car.it does not have an on/off switch and the dealership said that they could not deactivate the air bag. I transport children in my vehicle and i am very worried about them and anyone else including myself riding in the car.please advise.
Air bag light keep coming on.
My daughter was driving into starved rock national park in illinois around 4 p.m. On august 20th, 2014. She driving on the entrance drive at the speed of 10 mph.the car suddenly started ramping up in speed causing the my daughter to start braking.the car continued gaining speed and the brakes were unable to stop the vehicle. As the car was going faster, my daughter entered the parks visitor center parking lot.while still trying to stop the vehicle, my daughter hit a parked car to the right, just clipping it causing damage to the hit car's taillight.her car hit a car to the left then hit a parked tahoe which stopped my daughters car after being pushed 4 parking spaces.we complained to toyota corp.they inspected the car and said it was mechanically sound. They admitted after further discussion the accelerator cable was frozen.they said this happened from an impact behind the battery, problem is that there was no impact that could have caused this until the impact of hitting the tahoe.my daughter was fighting to stop from the entrance drive.the toyota rep. Also stated that their inspection team released the cable and said it worked fine.the rep. Could not answer my question regarding the timing of the cable being frozen.they are accusing my daughter of accelerating the vehicle due to fact that it is a mechanical accelerator, it was the only way this could have happened.another issue is that the airbags did not deploy.toyota claims due to the fact that the impact was slightly off center of the front that they did not deploy.looking at the damage including the radiator being pushed into the engine, the airbags should have deployed. Toyota feels that our car is fine and there were no issues with the manufacturing or the design.please help.
Every time that the passenger seat is moved forward to allow passengers in or out the air bag light in the vehicle starts blinking. The light will blink for around 15 days before it shuts off if the passenger seat is not moved forward for passengers during that time. The next time the passenger seat is moved forward for passengers, the cycle starts over again.
Airbag light comes on and does not go away.
The contact owns a 1999 toyota camry solara. While driving approximately 35 mph, another vehicle crashed into the rear of the contact's vehicle at a high rate of speed. The air bags did not deploy. A police report was filed. The contact sustained unknown injuries that required medical attention. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 170,600.
The contact owns a 1999 toyota camry solara. While driving 35 mph, the air bag warning light illuminated. The failure recurred whenever the vehicle was operated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact stated that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 00e010000 (interior lighting). The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
Airbag light on dashboard blinks
I was at a standstill and rearended by another driver going approximately 50 mph and he did not brake. The seat belt did not engage nor did the airbags. Both cars totaled. Trunk hood popped, also rear panels bent. I sustained a head injury either on windshield or steering wheel . My firm belief is the seatbelt should have engaged and avoided the head injury.
My daughter was driving 1999 toyota camry solara.when crossing highway at intersection, the car hesitated on acceleration and she was struck on the passenger side rear.she states she had plenty of time to cross but "the car just wouldn't go".also, despite impacts from several angles, no airbags deployed.
Nothing happened yet, since i cannot know for sure if these are bad air bags since car was in accident and repaired with replacement air bags in past, so no way to find out unless toyota pays to check them first and maybe replaced.worried that replacement air bag are defective or dangerousno one is addressing this issue why??? my replacements need to be checked by serial number???
Went to arbitration and lost, because i could not prove air bags would not deploy in crash.scc *nlm**dimsii ivoq entry posted after 12/12/02 cut-over to artemis*741229
Air bag warning light flashes on/off acknowledging air bag will not deploy.the air bag warning light flashes on/off due to center sensor failure.
Airbag light comes on, vehicle was taken to dealership, part was repaired, howeverafter a few weeks, airbag light came on again. Dealer cannot remedy the problem.. Consumer is concerned that the airbags may not work during an accident.*mj
Air bag light on instrument panel has come on approximately 8 times. Dealership has been unable to determine cause for this problem.
I purchased the car new in september 1998.on december 13, 1999 i was involved in an accident.i was driving to work that morning on a major interstate, i-285 east, it was around 7:30 am and traffic was bumper to bumper.traffic began moving and i was going approximately 40 mph when suddenly the truck in front of me slammed on his brakes and i hit him.the nose of my care was smashed so hard that the hood crumpled into a tepee and was pushed back into the windshield causing the glass to crack. I couldn't open my doors because the impact had pushed the doors back so they overlapped the back quarter panels and were jammed.luckily no one was hurt.this was a dead on front impact accident in a practically brand new car and the airbags did not deploy.there was not a single inch of the front end that didn't take the impact so there is no way it "missed the sensors".the damage to the car ended up being over $10,000.00.the airbags seriously malfunctioned and i was lucky that i wasn't injured.
Head on collision at 50mph failed to set off airbag.
While driving air bag light would flash/blink. Would not remain solid. Sounds like cables hitting something under hood. Been to dealership numerous times, but mechanic could not locate cause of problem. Mechanic indicated that he tightened a pin, but problem still exists.
Airbag sensor has failed. Dealer notified.
Passenger air bag warning light comes on frequently.within the first year, the air bag light came on and stayed on.the dealership indicated that there was a failure with the airbag assembly and replaced the entire passenger seat and assembly.since then, the light just comes on randomly and stays on until i take it to a dealership. Each time, they fix "something".several of the times, they have told me that the wires underneath the seat come disconnected over time.they then proceed to "fix" it.however, it seems to happen again within several months.one time, they said it was a loose connector from the steering. All times, the dealership has fixed this without charging me.this last time, the dealership told me that the problem was the loose cable under the seat again, but because the prior problem was not this same thing (e.g. The steering connection), it was not covered under warrantly and i would have to pay $200to have it fixed. I am very dissapointed.this is obvioulsy a recurring issue.and i'm not the only one having these kings of problems.when will their be a recall of this?it is clearly a safety issue.the dealer is obviously not able to permanently fix this problem (after 6 trys, you'd think they would figure it out).i don't want to have to pay every time i need it fixed.
Airbag warning light flashes for passager side airbags. If you jiggle wiring under seat often the next time you start car light will be off.
Since 2007 i have noticed some type of engine difficulty with the toyota. The engine shuts off while running (it is an automatic transmission.) also, alternator and battery receive too high a charge resulting in computer system overheating. I have replaced both alternator and battery several times, much more than necessary and problem remains with the obd system. This also causes engine to have surges of power while driving affecting cruise control... I don't know if this is also a problem relative to current toyota issues-online someone has a 2002 solara with same problem. My parents have 01 solara-no problems reported. My old lexus had similar problems my 1989 celica was a great car. Would not own again-would like to sell nut concerned for safety of any future owner(s.)

On monday, september 2 the driver side lighted mirror on the visor fell off causing the two wires behind the lighted mirror to come loose and contact each other.this proceeded to short out filling the cars cabin with smoke.the car was stopped immediately on a local road, turned off and both my wife and 21-month old son were quickly removed from the car.i was notified of this occurrence by a local neighbor and upon my arrival saw a very frightened wife holding my 21-month old son and a smoke filled car.upon restarting the car to return back to my home the car immediately began to make a very loud whining sound.after arriving back at my home approximately 1 minute away i turned off the engine only to find that the engine would not shut off.i then immediately opened the hood and began to disconnect the positive side of the battery.in the approximate 2 minutes this took, the engine progressively whined louder and louder until the starter began to smoke and the engine came to an abrupt stop.at this point i finally disconnected the positive side of the battery.

The unreliable brakes on my car are my gravest concern of the several problems ive had.the electrical problems with this car began only one month into ownership.these problems were mostly corrected by a rewire that was done in october 1999.occasionally, though, a window wont open still.the brakes first failed in the winter of 00-01, and i took the car in for service.the dealership could not replicate the problem. I continued to drive the car, since the problem rarely occurred.it became more frequent and pronounced, however. Eventually in july 2001, i slid through an intersection on a hot sunny day on dry roads.i was convinced the car was not performing properly.at this point (august 2001), it is unsteady enough on good roads that i brake with extreme caution at all times.twice, now, in the last week the abs has engaged when the brakes were not engaged once during acceleration, once when completing a stop (that started at about 15 mph). The third dealership i contacted listened to the problem carefully and then explained to me that the car was performing exactly as designed, and this safety feature (the abs) was designed to protect from loss of control. I can certainly control the direction of the car well when its skidding, but i consider the ability to reduce speed an equally important element of control.if a child on a tricycle crossed unexpectedly in front of me, i am almost certain the car could not be stopped in time to avoid an accident, no matter how slowly i was going.the abs takes over even at very low speeds (0-15mph), tripling my stopping distance on the driest, smoothest roads. I know this would be a compelling suit coming from the attorney of a cripple, but i am only interested in being safe and alive.this car is unsafe, and i am exasperated at toyotas refusal to take responsibility for the problem.

We went to the dealer today, armed with an amazing array of internet information. We were initially sent to the main receptionist who when asked who's handling the sludge problems? at first didn't seem to understand the meaning of the word, then when my fiance pulled out a whole packet of information and put it in front of her and said this problem, which i'm sure you're aware of she then aid, you took me off guard and then stopped the gsm or sm and asked him to talk to us. When in his office, we said, we bought a car from you and have sludge and the car has sat a month, he referred us to the repair department. We walked though the hall and over to repair and spoke with the manager of that department. He asked for the vin and the mileage, after we said we have a bad sludge problem. He pulled the vehicle up in the computer then asked if anyone had removed the intake to see if it was sludge. We answered that of course we had taken it to two different mechanics, first because we thought it was an oil leak, burning and causing all the smoke. Both mechanics knew immediately that it was sludge, although the one was nice enough to run diagnostics to prove there was no leak. We were told the car could not be driven. After telling the manager that two mechanics had seen it, he asked if it could be driven to the dealership. We told him, since it is shuddering and smoking like a freight train, both mechanics advised that the whole engine would seize up, and we would not drive it. He then gave us a number to a towing company for the dealership that would tow at no cost to us to the dealership and agreed to look at the car tomorrow. When i asked what it would cost me, he said nothing, if it is sludge. We'll see. If this man is as honest as he seems, he's not only rare, but amazing. Of course, he could call in a day or two and say it was my fault and want oil change receipts. Unfortunatlly for the dealership, i have them.

While driving at 75 mph the vehicle's engine blew up and caused a vehicle fire. The dealer was notified.*nlm
While driving on the interstate between 55-60 mph vehicle suddenly started running rough, jerking forward and then stalled. Vehicle was towed to a dealership, who indicated that this occurred because the engine locked up due to an oil sludge.
Sludge build up in engine caused engine failure.my engine is going to be inspected by toyota at their griffin ga outlet on september 2, 2003.i anticipate the runaround and i am getting all the info i can to argue my case.my engine suddenly is using one quart per 300 miles and when i took it for an oil change i suddenly discovered it was so gunked up it would not accept oil unless poored in very slowly.
Engine blown on my toyota solara.
I had my car serviced before leaving for our trip to florida and within 2 hours of driving from my home the water pump went and blew the engine. We had to leave our car at the dealership in watertown and rent a car for our trip.in 2004, we also failed the emission test twice.
While driving 65 mph check engine light appeared on the dashboard and remained on.consumer was able to maintain control of the vehicle, and drove it to the dealer for inspection. Mechanicdetermined that the engine needed to be replaced.

The engine in my v-6 toyota formed so much sludge that the engine would not run even though the vehicle was service in accordance with the mfg recomendations and the mfg would not cover the repairs under the drive train warranty.
I have read a report in usa today newspaper about the camry solara surging and i have experienced this myself. It has happened numerous times while traveling at highway speeds. Most of my travel is at these speeds. At the time i did not notice the spedometer or the tachometer increase, it just felt like i got a sudden push from behind. It does not happen at any certain time, road condition, weather or anything else. Each time on the highway i was using my cruise control. Also i notice in the report that others have reported that the car accelerated while depressing the brake pedal. I myself was just involved in a minor crash recently where at the time i thought that something wasn't right. I had begun to move into the spot that the driver in front of me was moving out of. We were in the right turn lane, stopped, waiting to turn. As i moved i looked left for clearance and when i turned back, looking right, she had stopped. Maybe 5-10 feet ahead of me. Well i slammed on the brakes and it was like the car wouldn't stop. I could feel the pedal pusle from the antilock brakes. I wasn't going more than 5mph max. I had just started to move. I don't even think i touched the gas, just let off of the brake to coast ahead into what i thought was an unoccupied spot. At the time it seemed odd to me that i wasn't able to stop in such a short distance especially while going as slow as i was. But after your car gets crumpled you kind of forget about everything else except the vehicle and drivers condition involved. Of course i recieved a ticket for careless driving for being the rearender, not the rearendee.
Dt*: the contact stated the engine light had been illuminated but was aware of the problem of the vehicle.the contact experienced light headedness and fatigue, as well as, muscle aches and loss of coordination believed to be from fumes entering the passenger compartment.the vehicle was taken to a service dealer on three occasions, but the problem recurred. The contact went to the hospital.the manufacturer was not notified.
Excessive corrosion and rusting in the under carriage of the vehicle. Exhaust rusted all the way through. Front flex pipe rusted. Cat converter rusted . Muffler and back exhaust pipe rusted.

I have a 1999 solara and ever since owning it, it's been one thing after another.the cd player skips when i press the brakes, the rotors needed resurfacing because the steering wheel and brake pads vibrated when breaking, the struts rattle badly and constantly, the driver side vanity mirror broke off, the driver side door control panel has came off twice now, i've replaced break light bulbs four times, the engine sputters at times at start up and will not stay running on it's own and the driver side seat rocks back and forth.the dealer fixed the seat once out of the 7 times i brought it in for repair finally said it's supposed to do that.i told them they fixed the problem once already so how can it be a normal thing?i sat in a new solara onthe showroon floor and that seat rocked too.the dealer replaced my cd player but the new skips at times but not nearly as often.the dealer claimed there's nothing wrong with the struts and refused to replace.tired of one thing after another...this is my first and last toyota.
The 1999 toyota camry solara had a film that had built up on the drivers side and front passenger side lenses which was difficult to clean. The lenses had been replaced several times but the film continued to impact the visibility of the low beams and high beams. The front passenger side low beam shorted twice and was replaced. The o2 sensor failed and had to be replaced as well. The manufacturer needs to replace the lenses with a more translucent lense for the head lamps to prevent a failure of poor visibility. The approximate failure mileage was 35,000. Dyd

Car was being driven in the city of chicago at a slow speed...brakes went to the floor... Avoided hitting another car and pedestrian and then hit a tree near a home.car was towed by aaa to a aaa service shop.... Marathon- western/toughy who inspected the vehicle and determined both brake lines failed... Rusted through and they see this condition alot with toyota's of this age as the brake lines are covered up by a plate that traps salt and moisture.toyota claims contacted and denied any design fault of material defect.. Even though it has stainless steel brake lines that this mechanice and shop constantly sees do this exact corrosion problem.i have owned eight toyotas... Never experienced even a brake leak but a full catastrophic failure in this 1999 model is ridiculous and toyota is walking away from any responsibility on their part.ntsb should be recall all 1999's solora and camry's ... Force toyota to pay for repairs before more of these accidnets occur...

1. Toyota solara 1999 hood opened up during driving on the highway and crashed into the windshield breaking the windshield into drivers side seat and obstructing visionthe drivers side window would not roll down preventing the driver from looking outside to pull over.2. Driver narrowly escaped traffic collision because of obstructed vision.3. Driver pulled over to the highway shoulder. Pulled down the hood and tied the hood to the chassis using rope. The windshield was completely damaged.all parts are available as the car was not repaired.

Recently i've noticed that the driver's side door of my solara does not close completely, as if the latching device is out of alignment.the door open light goes on and sometimes the lock does not engage properly since the door is not closed. If i have to slam the door shut it sounds as if the window is going to crack.

Brakes went to floor when depressed... Had to run car into curb and into tree before a car was hit in front of vehicle or parked cars.mechanic noted both brake lines were rusted through causing complete catastrophic failure which apparently happens alot on this age of toyota because of design of covering brake lines trapping in salt and moisture leading to failure.result of accident was to replace both brake lines from to back and body work to repair vehicle so it was drivable.

I have had to replace the brakes 3 times since i bought this car. Rotors and calipers have all been replaced 3 times. Car now has about 130,000 miles. Last repairman said there was excessive rust on the brakes, but the car is not driven in any salt water.
I am the original owner of a 1999 toyota solara (purchased march 1999).last month with 34,825 miles on it, i had to have the front rotors and brake pads replaced for the second time. The first time was in june 2001 with 22,125 miles on the vehicle.both times, the dealer blames excessive rust and runout on the rotors as the cause of serious steering wheel vibration when braking. They claim i do not drive the car and use the brakes enough.the solara is garage kept and gets at least as much use as any other car i have owned and i have never had to have any brakes and rotors replaced for this reason and four of the cars i owned for a period of nine years each. Two of those sat outside their entire existence and averaged a grand total of three to four thousand miles/year.i have tried dealing with the dealer rep and he and the regional service manager tell me there is nothing they should do about it and i should expect to be doing this again every two years. This does not seem right to me and so far i have gotten the response from customer service that they stand behind the opinions of their dealer service techs.even after repair, i get some vibration in pedal and steering wheel at times.have also had problems with antilock brakes. Just today i had to avoid an accident as a car pulled out in front of me and antilock released braking causing a longer braking distance than necessary. One day when stopping at a traffic light in good weather conditions on a smooth surface, anti-lock kicked in and released braking power. I wound up with the whole front end of the car in the intersection. I was only going about 30-35 mph as i was in a residential area. I was lucky no one was coming. Any time you try to stop on a rough surface, it can be an adventure. You always have to remember to keep extra distance with this car. Anytime brought up to dealer, they said could not duplicate and this is the way antilock brakes are supposed to work.
Brakes would make grinding noises when they were applied. Would fail to catch when trying make stops, which are almost impossible to do. Brake system was replaced at 6,000 miles & the struts were replaced at 12,000 miles due to oil leakage.

Rotors broke off and went into front wheel, and wheel stopped moving, andconsumer lost control of vehicle.

On flat roads, steering wheel binds or locks into a left turn requiring driver to use clockwise force to the steering wheel to return it & maintain vehicle on (center) straight path.(steering wheel does not return to the center). If i let the steering wheel go, vehicle will turn into the left lane or center divider in about 5 seconds. I am an outside salesperson and on two ocassions i have had to sharply steer the car away from the left to avoid hitting oncoming traffic,i had no expectation the car would steer itself to the left so quickly. I understand that solara and sienna share same platform, powertrain & steering...siennas had a similar problem (odi pe99-070) & owners had new modified steering rack guides replaced to correct the problem & and that the solara steering rack has quietly been modified with new part # 44250 06081. I took my solara to the dealer to check alignment about 6 times(first time when car had about 300 miles), rotated, balanced tires, dealer told me bridgestones potenza tires were to blame,i replaced them with b.f.goodrich but the steering wheel continues to bind or lock into a left turn.
Excessive corrosion and rusting in the under carriage of the vehicle. Exhaust rusted all the way through. Front flex pipe rusted. Cat converter rusted . Muffler and back exhaust pipe rusted.

I was driving on the highway. The hood opened up and crashed into the windshield. The hood will not drop back down. I tried to get the door windows down and the power windows were stuck. I braked hard and used the rear view mirror to pull over. I had glass chips all over me and couldn't see anything in front. Once i pulled over i inspected the hood latch and found both latches were rusted and latched open. The horrible designs toyota has almost killed me and the only reason i was not hit was because of no other cars on the road.
Toyota solara 1999 hood latch failed. Hood opened and crashed into windshield while driving on highway.
The suspension on my 99 toyota solara is very noisy.i called toyota and they made a note of it, but that was all they would do.the car has only 36,000 miles on it much of it highway.i feel that this is a defect and that toyota should fix it for free.
The suspension on the car is very noisy.thereis a loud squeaking like noise when driving over any bump.i believe that the car needs new struts and that toyota should fix it for free.the car has only 48,000 miles on it.

The struts have gone bad in my 99 toyota solara. I've checked message boards on the net and a lot of solara owners have this same problem with the struts. I am not under warranty so the dealership will not fix this. It seems to be a toyota defect and not normal wear and tear.
Mcpherson strut upper bushing is loose and makes loud sounds when going over most bumps.appears the upper mountopening is too large and allows the strut to move around.dealer quotes $585.00 to replace both frontstruts.this seems a defect and not normal wear.
All 4 struts are leaking and need to be replaced.dealer's estimated cost is $1700.00.the car has 56k miles (80% freeway)
Re: struts 3 service centers, including antwerpen, checked.all 3 agree on rr strut and mount.the other two added that the other struts were leaking.antwerpen says that's "normal" for toyota.however, a check at the service center of 2 other toyota's revealed no leaks.after customer called a "wise ass" by toyota rep, efforts to speak to managers revealed them unavailable for the entire day (this at 8:30 a.m.)re: power window.when it was first reported, the window became operable before i could get it into the shop.in aug. 2002 i kept the motor running and drove directly there.antwerpen said it was the power motor and that they would order the part.although i have called sevreral times and mentioned it again during this incident, that has not yet "come in" from toyota it's now 4 months later.dt
Climate control unit has malfunctioned three times in the four years we've owned this vehicle.previous two times it would suddenly, without adjustment, blast either hot or cold air.we could usually stop it, by a lot of manipulation of the thermostat knob, and it was "fixed" both times by a toyota dealership under an extended warranty.in the third (current) incident the temperature is stuck on 76 degrees.not able to make it warmer or cooler.
1999 toyota solara in excellent condition yesterday as i was returning from the grocery store i tried to start my car. The engine turned over but was running erratically. When i tried turning it off to restart it, it would not stop running. It made a staccato sound and ran fast and out of control until it drained the battery and stopped. White smoke poured out and a terrible smell accompanied this. When i had it towed to the mechanic who works on my car, he said he had another toyota that had the same problem. He has replaced the starter motor, and the battery is holding a charge. I believe that if two cars in this one garage had this problem, it may be more than a coincidence. I am not surprised to have to replace a starter motor, but this was a frightening event and could have been much worse if i were not in a safe neighborhood setting. I have had to replace starter motors in other cars, but i have never had a situation like this one when they have needed replacement.
1999 toyota solara, vehicle struck a mud flap and bracket that separted from unit 2.unit 2 continued eastbound and is unknown.(ohio traffic crash report # 10-0411-91)8jb updated 09/13/10
1.my 1999 se v6 solara began smoking a lot everytime i started the car and when i accelerated.it turned out to be the "sludge" problem and the dealer did all of the required work to fix that.2.i was in a front end accident in 1999 and the airbags failed to deploy.3.there is a very loud, for lack of a better word, clunking in the front passenger side wheel area.the dealer says the strut tops are worn out and it will cost $750.00??? per side to replace the struts.the car only has 35,000 miles on it. Shouldn't the struts have a longer life than that?4.the driver side window just fellinto the door panel one day and had to have the regulator replaced.5.about a month ago, if i tried to restart the car when the engine was still warm it wouldn't crank.first there was no noise at all when i turned the key over and if i waited a bit, as it cooled off, it would eventually start.then one day on my way home from work i stopped at the store and when i tried to leave it was dead and wouldn't start at all.i had it towed to the dealer where i had to buy a new battery and have a throttle body service because the was "carbon build up in the injectors".6.the car shakes like it is going to explode at high speeds and it is not the tires being out of balance or the alignment.it also shimmies badly when i apply the brakes from a high speed.7.now, i went to have an emission test done and failed because the check engine light is on.the code was for the o2 sensor.my mother has the same car and has had the check engine light problem for the o2 sensor, which she had repaired and within a week the light was back on.i am so tired of one thing after the next with this car.
The contact owns a 1999 toyota camry solara. The contact stated that while driving 24 mph, the vehicle suddenly accelerated and crashed into a curb. The contact suffered minor injuries and was taken to the hospital for treatment. The vehicle was towed to an independent repair shop, but the failure was not yet diagnosed. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure and current mileages were 130,000. The vin was not available.
I was driving my 1999 toyota solara, home in the rain going 50 mph when a street light turned yellow, i started to put on my brakes, but the car was not slowing down in time to stop before the intersection, so i took my foot off the brakes and just went through the yellow light.i felt that if i was driving any other one of my cars that i would have had plenty time to stop.when you take the foot ofthe gas on this car it does not slow down automatically like other vehicles.when i first got this 1999 toyotasolara i got a ticket for not stopping at a stop sign.there to i also though i had plenty of time to stop, but it seems like the engine is fighting against the brake when i try to stop.since then when i come up to a stop sign i start braking much further back than i us to.even when i'm stopped at 700 rpm, the cars seem to want to start going. I always the first one to start off when a stop light , because as soon as i take my foot of the gas the cars goes 5 mph with out even putting my foot on the gas.the drive-ability of this car is the same as owning a 1970's pumped out muscle car.i have also noticed that on the newer camry based toyota cars that the disc's on the disc brakes are twice as big as my solara's disk brakes, which means to me that toyota knows that there was a problem with these brakes.to the novice driver i would say that the solara is a dangerous car to drive.
1999 toyota camry solara se, not v6, accelerated without stepping on acceleration and hit a wall.accelerator pedal did not stick, but acceleration continued.no other vehicle was hit, i crashed into a wall.
At times when i come to a stop (traffic, stop light, stop sign, etc.) or slow down in my 1999 toyota solara i have trouble accelerating from the idle speed(s). When i press down on the gas pedal to accelerate it sticks. It won't move unless i apply more pressure which causes my car to jerk or "peel out". This situation does not occur at every acceleration but does occur frequently.when this situation happens i do not feel safe. There has been a few occurrences where the roads where wet and i experienced this problem. When my car finally accelerated the tires" spun out" which caused my car to move violently. This incident is not similar to that of which is in the toyota gas pedal recall but i urge you to look into this matter to see if it should also be included.
On my 1999 toyotasolara i have to use high beams just to see, and my car went 90 mph before slowing up,my handicapped son was so scared! then it just cut off while driving. He had to coast to safety and now it needs a new motor !! recalls about these problems pertain to the 1999 solara and are critical. This is twice life was endangered and toyota is doing absolutely nothing to help resolve this very serious issue .i guess they wait till someone dies in an accident before toyota does what they should do to keep the public safe!!! my car is just sitting there ,how much does toyota care when they don't even replace the petal or excelleration problem??let there family member be endangered and see ! but toyota is slacking extremely on the quality of their vehicles!!! they need to be investigated for the dangerous cars they are putting on the road . And with no help from toyota when a serious issues happens . They should be discrased by their poor performance to jepordize the american citizens .. Just to put more money in their pocket . Now i have no car to take my disabled son to his dr.!!! they have no idea how they effect a persons life who has limited funds and many medical needs. The dangerous situations we were put through driving the toyota car scares me badly! i used to have faith in their product . But it's very sad when they have lost theircaring about their product and making the american family happy and more important safety!!!! these dangerous vehicles should be stopped!! just onevehicle could hit a school bus full of precious children , leaving parents andgrandparents and precious brothers and sisters left devastated for years to come!!!the pain goes on and on and effects many generations possibly thousands andthousands of innocent people over the greed of money from the toyota big wigs !!!
1999 toyota solara. Consumer states sudden acceleration.*tgwthe consumer stated as she pulled into her garage, the vehicle suddenly accelerated on its own.consequently, she crashed into a false wood wall at the end of the garage.
Recall campaign 01v012000 concerning accelerator cable. After engaging the cruise control accelerator cable stuck. Vehicle will not accelerate without considerable pressure on the accelerator, which caused the vehicle to lunge or surge forward.
Poor body design. Narrow rear window.2 backseats head rests are to tall and close together completely blocking the window. Very hard to do a safe lane chandge. *tc
Driver's side sun visor has a mirror on it that falls off and distracts the driver's focus from the road.
