2012 toyota camry xle hybrid.consumer requests update of vehicle recall notice.the consumer stated toyota did not officially inform him about the recall. Recall# 13v014000.

The car was in a major accident, over $12,000 front end damage in a front end collision. A car pulled in front of our car from a side street. The air bags did not inflate which is what is prompting this inquiry.

On 1/8/13 i was going down highway at 60 mph and i noticed passenger side air bag off light was on ,with an adult in passenger seat. I took to dealerand they said it checked ok. On 12/23/13 i was on highway at 60 mph and i noticed passenger side air bag off light was on ,with an adult in passenger seat once again i took it to the dealer, and theysaid it checked ok. I am concerned that i could be involved in a crash and the passenger ( my wife age 75 ) could be seriously injured or killed because the passenger air bag didn't function as it was designed too.

Vehicle was involved in an accident but no airbags deployed even at speed of approximately 45 mph. My vehicle t-boned another vehicle that illegally and neglectfully crossed my way. My vehicle's front was was damaged, from middle part all the way to the driver side part. Bumper, hood, driver side fender, front frame metal, and other parts were needed to be replaced. All those damages and not a single airbag deployed causing more injury to occur....updated 12/29/15 updated 2/23/2016updated 04/24/18

Takata airbags: knocked unconscious. After turning right onto a street & accelerating to about 20 mph over about 150 yards, i hit a car that was stopped in the street. I had my seatbelt on. The airbag knocked me unconscious for at least 10 seconds. (i weigh 122 lbs & i'm 5 ft 3.5 in.) i didn't realize i'd been knocked out: i looked down to see a partially inflated airbag. I didn't realize i' been unconscious or that my eyeglasses had been knocked off. Based on what i saw, i thought the airbag hadn't fully inflated. But my 13-year old daughter, who was in the back seat, said she had thought i was dead because she repeatedly called to me after the airbag deployed and i didn't answer. I never heard her or even knew my chest/face was against the airbag. My daughter said my face and chest were slumped against the airbag. I was shocked: all i knew was that i just saw the car i was going to hit, braked, and then saw a partially inflated airbag. But my chest hurt. The next day my chest hurt so much i couldn't press the cap onto a magic marker. The left side of my face felt like i had something on it (like a piece of cloth), and my left cheek at the cheekbone was swollen and bruised. The vision in my left eye was blurry, too. So i went to the er where they did ct scans of my chest and brain. They said i had a mild concussion. I got a partial black eye about 4 days later, and i noticed a 4" by 4"bruise on the outside of my right calf. Even today--28 days after the accident--my chest and calf still hurt. I was only going about 20 mph when the accident happened. I was only starting to accelerate onto a 40 mph street and probably only got to 18 or 20 mph when i saw the car in front of me, hit the brakes, and then hit the car. My car has been declared a total loss because of the deployment of the airbags. My daughter, who had her seatbelt on in the back seat, was unharmed.

No matter where i park rodents are finding ways to get into my car. I do not keep food in the car and i have done several different things to prevent them getting in. Including moving my car around to places other than my designated covered parking spot. My dealer has told me to piss off. As has toyota, but it would appear that toyota switched over to more environmentally friendly insulation materials in recent years. I purchased this 2012 toyota camry brand new.this has been going on for two years now and it would appear i'm not the only person experiencing this as is apparent from the links below. I have extensive pictures of what has happened to my car. This also hasn't been an issue for any of the other vehicles in my parking lot and my previous car was parked there for years without issue (a different manufacturer). I also park our older toyota matrix (2003) and toyota mr2 spyder (2000) in that spot and i have not had any issues with either vehicle. I believe our older toyota models have very different materials that aren't as attractive to rodents.i firmly believe this has to do with toyota's move to more environmentally friendly materials. Just tonight i finally have had enough because these creatures chewed into my trunk and were chewing up the materials in my trunk near the hybrid battery. I'm parked in a completely different area and it's still happening. This isn't a coincide! i have some serious health and safety concerns here. I was reading about another owner that had rodents get into their new toyota prius that ate the passenger airbag and did over $10,000 in damages! this needs to be investigated asap. The contact owns a 2012 toyota camry hybrid. While driving 60 mph, the contact lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle left the road and became airborne before landing onto the ground. The air bags failed to deploy. The contact sustained cuts from the seat belt and unspecified injuries to the neck, back, and left leg. The contact was transported to the hospital for medical treatment. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed away and the insurance company stated that they would attempt to repair the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. A dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and sent an inspector to investigate. The vehicle had not yet been diagnosed or repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 41,107.

The contact owns a 2012 toyota camry hybrid. While driving 20 mph, the brakes malfunctioned. The contact attempted to make a sudden stop by depressing the brake pedal, but the vehicle would not stop. As a result, the contact crashed into the rear of another vehicle. The air bags did not deploy. A police report was not filed. The contact sprained her right ankle from the pressure of depressing the brake pedal continually. Medical attention was required. The vehicle was towed to north hollywood toyota in north hollywood, california to have the damages assessed. It had not been determined yet whether or not the vehicle was destroyed. The manufacturer was notified and provided the contact with claim number: 180-427-0700. The failure mileage was approximately 65,000.

2012 toyota camry. Consumer states vehicle turned on by itself and ran for an unknown period of time. *tgw

The master power window switch started smoking while i was driving down the road on 6/18/12. At the time, i wasn't aware of any issues with the power switches. So my family and i jumped out the car and called the fire department. They disconnected the battery and the car towed to toyota. The power switch had burned up and some of the door panel was burned as well. Went back to get my car, and the battery went out as well. Today, 10/12/12, my car is still in the shop at toyota. It has been a long, drawn out process, but i'll be glad when i receive my reimbursement and car. I am a loyal toyota customer and this is my first incident with them.

Over the course of my ownership of this car, toyota camry hybrid 2012, all 4 lock actuators have malfunctioned at least once.recently, the driver's front side lock actuator stopped working for the second time and the only way to lock and unlock this door, is to do so manually.i paid for the repair the first time in january of 2016, $642, paid to run the diagnostics for the other three doors that went out at the same time, december 2016, and was quoted $656 today, may 2019, to repair the same driver side front door again.toyota goodwill covered the other three doors beyond the cost of the diagnostics. I feel that they only covered the cost in december of 2016 to prevent me from issuing a complaint. This is only an issue when the vehicle is stationary. Safety issues could arise when you need to quickly enter the car in an unsafe neighborhood.

When driving on local roads, the abs, slip and warning lights would come on suddenly.i would experience a severe decrease in brake function (i would need to slam on the brakes to get them to apply properly).this happened four times before the service center was able to diagnose a failed abs actuator.this is apparently a known issue for the camry hybrids, as toyota issued an extended warranty for 2006-2011 camry hybrids for this very problem.(unfortunately, i have a 2012 hybrid and the service center would like to charge me over $3k (!) to fix this issue.).

The vehicle had low oil and the low oil warning light did not light up.the engine suffered damage.the users guide infers that the car will warn drivers of low oil, but it did not. Toyota has a design flaw....

About a dozen times in the last year, the car was put in park and the engine was turned off using the on/off button, but then later in the night, it was noticed that the engine was running! the car was in the garage and the key was in the house at the time.

I have noticed that the rear brake light is not turned on when i place my foot on brake pedal. In order to turn on the light, i had to push little more than i used to do on the other non-hybrid car. Because this vehicle has regenerative brake system, it activates whenever my foot is off from gas pedal, and starts to slow down. On the other non-hybrid vehicle, the light is turned on as soon as i touch the brake pedal, however, on this hybrid vehicle, i have to push more to turn it on. Even i can stop this car without turning on the brake lights. I asked the dealer about this issue, but they told me it is with in normal range. But i feel this is very serious safety issue. For instance, a following driver behind this vehicle may not be able to notice that it is slowing down because brake lights are not on, but actually the car is stopping. Please review this issue and compare to other hybrid vehicle with regenerative brake system.

I first noticed the issue literally driving the new car off the dealer lot. I was traveling behind my wife in my truck with her behind the wheel in the new car. I began to notice that at times the brake lights would come on when braking or not, very intermittently. I figured that since it was a new car it would take time for any new driver to get familiar to that new vehicle. It is very rare that i would be following her in a separate vehicle watching her brake. Every once in a while, preferably at night i would drive it myself and test to see if i can come to a complete stop while applying the brakes but only applying a certain of pressure to not signal the brake lights, and i was able to do so. While driving i would look in my rear view mirror and watch the third brake light. At certain driving conditions i found a way where even at highway speeds in stop and go traffic i can achieve speeds in excess of 40 mph and come to a complete stop without signaling my brake lights, and i would be applying pressure on the brake pedal. I assumed this issue was caused either by the hybrid regenerative braking system triggering on, and/or the little switch under the brake pedal which signals the brake lights. Around november of 2014, i got fed up with the issue and thought about the safety factor and had claremont toyota, fix the sensitivity of the braking switch. With the third brake light assembly unattached and turned 180 degrees around facing forward the technician tested and simulated what i had claimed. I even rode with the technician in the passenger seat while he drove and was able to do the same thing, come to a complete stop without signaling the brake lights. He adjusted the switch to the most sensitive setting so that the brake lights would always signal when braking. In my opinion if any amount of pressure is applied to the brakes, the brake lights should signal.

We experienced the "check hybrid system" message on two occasions.the first incident, on april 3, 2019, involved driving eight miles and then leaving the car (off and parked) for about 20 minutes. On returning and attempting to start the car, the power came on but the engine did not and the "check hybrid system" message displayed. It was evening, so we had the car towed to our normal repair shop and left a description of the issue. The next day the repair shop called to say that the car had started up right away, so there was nothing they could do to diagnose the issue. They suggested we contact toyota if the issue recurred. We retrieved the car, and didn't observe any further issues, so we continued driving it 20-25 miles during the work week.on april 28, 2019, twenty-five days after the first incident, while driving about 35 miles per hour along a straight section of a four-lane divided highway, the engine cut off and the the "check hybrid system" message came on. The electronics remained on and the car began to slow. There were a number of other cars nearby, but fortunately i was in the right-hand lane and was able to navigate the car onto the shoulder. I turned the car off, then attempted to restart it again after about 15-20 minutes (unsuccessfully).i had it towed to the toyota dealership. At first they thought it would be a quick repair, but after a few days of troubleshooting and escalating its issues to higher levels at toyota, they diagnosed the issue as a problem with the inverter and the battery: a repair of nearly $8000.i asked the shop to document the repairs with photos and give me the broken parts. The tech agreed to do so, but (despite following up multiple times) i have not received anything except an invoice for the cost of repairs. I do not have the invoice near at hand, but can locate it if necessary.

Sir, my hybrid camry concern is on youtube parts 1-3 (punxsutawney winter driving a 2012 camry hybrid xle). I allege that its propulsion system could be the cause of fatalities past or future.

As i cruise on highway at 70 miles per hour, the hybrid traction battery starts to make mini rapid progressively loud explosions like the back of my rear seat is about to explode. To alleviate this i have to slow down to about 65 miles per hour. I have contacted toyota and the dealerships but are unwilling to investigate the cause. This car is still under warranty.

I have a 2012 toyota camry hybrid. It has 105000 miles. It has a bad vibration in the front end when you accelerate. It has been to the mechanic, but no one acknowledges that anything is wrong with it. Toyota needs to acknowledge that there's a problem.

My 2012 toyota camry hybrid's driver seat belt latch malfunctioned.it buckled normally, however, when i went to unbuckle the seat belt, the spring inside the mechanism wrapped around the notch in the metal seat belt latch.the spring was completely removed with the seat belt.the seat belt no longer functions properly and will only latch if the seat belt fastener button is depressed and then released while the seat belt is inserted.

The contact owns a 2012 toyota camry hybrid. The contact stated that the driver's front seat detached from the bracket, leaving the seatbelt intact. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage and current mileage was 21,107. The vin was not available.

On friday the 20th of september, i took my vehicle to queensboro toyota in ny to change my oil and check why my brake abs signal hazard lights were on.the oil was changed and i was told "nothing is wrong with your brakes" and the signal was removed.on september 24th, i almost got into an accident because my brakes failed on me, so i returned the vehicle for a 2nd diagnostic.i was then told "who ever changed your oil, they put the wrong brake fluid and it damaged the brake system.my brake fluid was never changed because i have a 2012 new car and it is unnecessary to change it now.i tried explaining my issue to the supervisor of the toyota service department and i was told to do my own investigation on the contamination of my brake fluid.the history of the vehicle shows queensboro toyota performed my maintence, so i hold them responsible.please help me, i am an honest consumer who can't afford to spend unnecessary funds for an issue toyota can resolve that almost caused me an accident with my 3 daughters on the highway.

I was in my gym's parking lot and had just turned left into a parking space.i placed my foot on the brake to slow the car to a stop as it moved forward into the parking space.however, the brake pedal did not respond. Instead, the car continued driving forward on its own, and then i heard a sound of acceleration, as if the car was revving itself up to a higher speed. Thinking that the brake had not engaged, i took my foot off the pedal and placed it back on the brake pedal, stepping harder, but there was no response.at this point, with my foot still on the brake pedal, the car jumped up onto the curb while still accelerating on its own, ran over the sidewalk. Rolled up and over a two-foot hedge that ran parallel to the sidewalk, then crashed into the brick enforced concrete column at the corner of the gym building.the brick column stopped the forward momentum of the car, but left a large dent in the right side of the car's bumper that was embedded with chunks of concrete. It also dented the hood of the car, pushing it out of alignment.the airbags in the car did not deploy.i had the car towed to the local toyota dealer and have reported my accident to toyota headquarters. I authorized their review of my car's event data recorder and am awaiting their investigation report.this frightening accident left me very shaken. It felt as if i had no control over the car at all. It seemed as if something had taken control of the acceleration of the car and my attempts to stop the car's forward momentum by stepping on the brake had zero impact. Thank god no one was on the sidewalk or i would have killed them. These cars need to be recalled to find out what is causing this potentially deadly malfunction. They are lethal weapons on our city streets!

Identical problems as recent recall for prius and lexus models, but hadn't heard my model being affected, so i wanted it documented.the brakes work on this model, but i always had the feeling that i had to push the brake pedal much harder than any other car i had drive to get the same effect.and so i often find myself having to push very hard on the brakes at the last minute to avoid a collision (i haven't had one yet) because what i think is normal pressure on the brakes isn't cutting it.i thought this might all be in my head until i saw the recent recall, and the description of owners' complaints was exactly how i would describe it.

I have noticed that the rear brake light is not turned on when i place my foot on brake pedal. In order to turn on the light, i had to push little more than i used to do on the other non-hybrid car. Brakes failed while driving without warning, i suddenly had no power braking and had to stomp on the brakes to avoid a collision.car has only 44,000 miles and been driven 29 months. At the dealer they said it was a failed brake booster and would cost over $3000 to repair. The car has been well maintained. I am lucky nobody was harmed but this is a major safety failure on a car that is supposed to be very safe and reliable, and a ridiculously expensive repair in addition.after i complained they wrote off 80% but still cost $600 out of my pocket to replace a defective toyota brake system.

When traveling on the freeway above 60 mph, the car wanders and is difficult to keep driving in a straight line.the toyota dealer checked the alignment once, and slightly adjusted it.problem still exists.i am hearing many 2012 camry owners have the same complaint, and their is no fix.this is dangerous.

While traveling on a parkway at 55 mph the electrical power steering warning light came on and the power steering ceased to work resulting in extreme difficulty controlling/steering the car. After getting the car off the road i restarted it and the eps was working. I continued traveling and within 10 minutes the problem occurred again. I contacted the dealer and brought the car in to them (the eps was working at this point). The dealer contacted toyota tech and the failure was identified and is being repaired under warranty.i searched the internet and found several cases of eps failure at slow speeds, none at highway speed.

Vehicle will not track in a straight line. Requires steering correction every 1-2 seconds to keep from veering out of lane. Dealer has checked twice. Indicates nothing wrong, simply characteristic of electronic steering. Vehicle requires unacceptable amount of attention to drive safely.

2012 toyota camry.consumer writes in regards to vehicle defective steering system.the consumer stated when driving on a straight section of the highway, the vehicle would drift. When he corrected the vehicle to go straight, it would drift in the opposite direction.

I have a 2012 camry xle hybrid with 33000 miles.it has a problem with on center feel steering, it needs constant wheel movements to stay in lane.i have been experiencing this many times since i purchased vehicle in may 2012.i have had many close calls to having an accident since owning the car due to this steering problem.the second you turn your head, then returning your attention straight ahead, my car is starting to veer to the left or right.almost any distraction causes this to happen very quickly.i know through a toyota owner online forum and thru friends that i'm not alone with this problem.i can't believe that there are no serious accidents being reported by this happening.toyota dealers do not seem to acknowledge this steering problem is as common as it seems to be.no answers are to be had from anyone at the dealerships that i am aware of.someone need to start figuring out why this kind of problem is happening.

Feels like i am always traveling on a headwind with my steering always feels like it wants to wander somewhere else.it is tiring and dangerous because sometimes i feel like the car goes one way, while i want it to go another way.i have complained to the a few dealers about this issue to no resolve.i also have seen similar complaints on the web about this issue.here is the link...http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/310-7th-generation-2012/420139-camry-2012-steering-problem.html please help!i don't want to cause an accident and i am sure others who drive my car feel the same way.

Steering is stiff causing over/correcting while driving down the highway.it causes arm to get tired driving even after only a few miles.it is frustrating and tiring to drivei previously had a 2007 camry xle and there is now comparison as to how easy the 2007 steered.need help.

The contact stated that whenever parked on an incline, the trunk lid would not remain open. The contact sustained injuries to the head and the nose as a result to the abrupt closure of the truck lid. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 200.

To the point, trunk will not stay open on incline.closed on my head while i was going to retrieve items.called it in and toyota told me they never heard of this complaint.the local dealer said they can not fix it.

Toyota fails to disclose that sunroof has drains designed to discharge water from the top of the vehicle. If one of these drains get clogged (and could happen very easy) water gets inside the vehicle. Water infiltration can start with a very slow amount so the issue is not discovered immediately because underneath the carpet is a material that absorbs this water. Mold can be developed, as well as electrical malfunctions during driving. My spouse accused breathing issues and psoriasis and we discovered that our vehicle is getting rain water inside.could be for months or even years, as well as since we purchased it - there is not way to assume or to notice how much water you have in which time because you discover it when is too late.toyota refuses to assume any responsibility for the damage, claiming that are not responsible for damages caused by outside elements. But in the toyota owner manual this drain is not disclosed to the customer, so it could take a periodic check.also lustine toyota from woodbridge va where weservice the car at every six months since we purchased the vehicle, does not have any recommendation, written or not, about these drains but instead can diagnose very quick that the water in the carpet comes from clogged drains. How come that toyota is well aware about the issue but is not raising any awareness about it, so the customer can be prepared in advance instead of having the vehicle full with water and to pose dangers while operating the vehicle for himself and others around?toyota needs to be held responsible like any other manufacturers are (see ww, chrysler, volvo) for failure to disclose important car features.we will need to get the vehicle back to the dealer and the issue to be corrected on their expense but the toyota customer service, represented by mrs. Kristen, refuses. Our case number was 1802171412please help

The doors opens when the car is in motion although they are locked.by mistake i pulled the handle when it was in motion and the door opened it t happened on a city street. Toyota employees said that it is normal, but any car should open the doors when it is motion.

Annoying tapping sound coming from the roof of my car.

When vehicle is driven over uneven or non-level surfaces, noises from the rear roof indicate loose welds or joints.

2012 toyota camry.consumer writes in regards to vehicle defective steering system.the consumer stated when driving on a straight section of the highway, the vehicle would drift. When he corrected the vehicle to go straight, it would drift in the opposite direction.

The rear door child's lock is frozen and will not release.i suspect this was a factory problem.we are both 74 and never had rear passengers so we only discovered this in july,2015.autonation agreed on the problem but will not fix it unless i pay them $1091.49.the rear door has not been in an accident.i am afraid that in an accident the rear passenger could not exit through this door.

Strong mold smell from air vents. Especially strong for first 15 minutes of driving.

The contact owns a 2012 toyota camry hybrid. The contact stated that while driving, the vehicle erroneously accelerated and the brakes failed to respond, causing it to crash into another vehicle. The contact sustained injuries to the left foot, right foot and bruising to the chest. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where the failure was not diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileages were 8,900.

I was slowly accelerating into a parking space when i felt the gas pedal move away from my foot and the car lurched forward.i immediately stepped on the brakes and the car stopped.i sat for a minute to see what could have caused this unintended acceleration.nothing was evident, so i backed into the parking space and shut the car off.

The contact owned a 2012 toyota camry hybrid. The contact stated that while attempting to park, the brake pedal was applied but the vehicle accelerated and crashed into the garage door and wall. The driver sustained chest pains from the force of the driver side air bag deploying. The front passenger sustained neck and back pains from the air bags deploying. The driver and front passenger received medical attention. The vehicle was destroyed.a police report was not filed. The approximate failure mileage was 30,000.

Tried multiple times to get into ready mode ,checked brake lights not on with brake pedal depressed.wheni usedshift override, vehicle lunged backwards striking person, while brake was applied.

The contact owns a 2012 toyota camry hybrid. The contact stated that the vehicle accelerated independently and crashed into another vehicle. There were no injuries and a police report was not filed. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The speed and failure mileage were unknown.

Wife was driving on freeway in scottsdale when a small rock impacted lower left of windshield.over the period of 2 hours a crack 3 feet long developed across drivers side of windshield.there are numerous reports of this happening on the internet for the camry hybrid since 2007.this appears to be manufacturers defect in engineering design or manufacture.toyota is not addressing the issue, since they make a lot of money on the windshield replacement (>$1,200 for a windshield? give me a break). Have numerous rock chips in windshields of other vehicles that do not result in this type of damage.

The moon roof on my xsl constantly rattles while driving whenever the auto goes over a bump; especially an uneven bump that torque or twists the chassis
