The contact owns a 2010 toyota camry hybrid. While driving approximately 40 mph and attempting to engage the brakes, the brakes malfunctioned causing the vehicle to crash into the rear of a second vehicle. While depressing the brake pedal, the vehicle slowed down but did not respond normally. The air bags failed to deploy. No injuries were reported and a police report was not filed. The cause of the failure was not diagnosed. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 71,350.

Three of the four door lock actuators have failed. The failures begin intermittently and then result in total failure. The front driver side door and rear driver side door have totally failed. The rear passenger door now intermittently fails. Toyota indicated that they have no recalls or extended warranties. Internet searches show that multiple toyota models have this as a common failure. This poses a significant safety issue as the door locks do not respond to the electrical unlock / lock button and do not respond to the remote. Manual unlock still works; however, in the case of small children or use of the child safety locks, this will likely not be an option. I have registered a complaint case with toyota usa. Toyota usa indicated that nothing will be done by them at this time. They will notify me if they issue a recall or extended warranty in the future.

The abs brake actuator on my toyota camry hybrid has gone bad causing my vehicle to be unsafe for operation. I was initially told that the actuator would be covered under a warranty extension. However after further inspection, i was told that it would not be covered because there isn't any warning lights on the dashboard and/or no error codes present when hooked up to a scan tool even though the part is faulty and needs to be replaced.

I have noticed lately that when i depress my brake pedal, it starts to slow the car down, but suddenly disengages and i have to depress much harder. It's almost like the brakes let go. I know there is an issue with earlier models and their brakes, is it possible it would extend to 2012 camry hybrids?

Brake actuator: my brakes were making a creaking noise /thumping when pressed...in which case i thought it was just time for regular maintenance. About 0430, december 21, 2017 (my wedding anniversary) i was driving on the highway 99south headed from fresno, ca to tulare, ca...about a 45min drive. While on the highway,my car started to make random chiming sounds thatdid not seem to come from anywhere particular. There was no indicator light associated with the sound...it was just random sounds i had never heard before. That went on periodically for the next 20-30mins. I finally made it to the prosperity ave off-ramp and began to press the breaks. Immediately,all of the lights on my panel lit up and a steady, high pitch sound came on and i couldn't stop my car. I panicked, continuously trying to break pushing hard as i can. I ended up being able to lead it off the exit and into a popeyes parking lot next to the off-ramp where it eventually came to a stop. Thank the lord that no one was on the road that early in the morning. The car was towed from tulare back to fresno (toyota corporate office would not refund that 200 bucks). Toyota dealership said it was the break actuator,it was a "warranty" that they'd cover at no cost. I asked why i wasn't notified since the situation is life threatening and there were no answers for that. Toyota had my car for about a month because i demanded they repair everything associated with the breaks...quite honestly i was just afraid to drive the car. Eventually,i drove it again with my anxiety gradually diminishing...but by no means gone. I visited a mental health doctor to help, although it didn't. 23 july 2019, it went out again. Will post that event on separate entry.

Break actuator, 2nd event event 1 complaint number 11234969 23 july 2019, dropped my car off with toyota clovis same dealership (jacob was my rep) because my brakes was making the creaking sound/thumping. I asked him to check my brakes and if that wasn't the problem,call me to let me know what the problem was. He called me later that day and said it was the brakes, they went ahead and changed the brake pads. He said they recommend to change brake actuator fluid? since it wasn't done when they changed the actuator previously and he was going to charge me. I commented that it should have been done back in 2017 when the brake actuator originally failed. I asked if it would affect my car, drivability, etc. And jacob said no it should drive fine with no problems other than a few settle sounds. He said but the brakes are fixed and it's no longer making the sound/ thumping. So i declined the fluid service. 25 july 2019, i was going to get my daughter from school. By then, it had started to make the cheaking noise/thumping. I got just about to her summer school (on fowler ave) and all of the lights on my panel lit up again. I pulled over and called my husband. I drove it home slow. We called toyota, spoke to the manager, explained that this had happened before. I just paid them $240 for brake pads that i didn't need. I refused to drive the car. The dealership was closing in 1.5hrs which left no time for tow truck. My husband drove it to the dealership, i followed in his car. Toyota (jacob) gave me a loaner. 25 july 2019, the manager called and said the issue was the brake actuator failed again but because the part which is obviously a defective (manager actually agreed) was only covered for a year, i'd have to contact corporate to see if they could change it out at no cost. I will call tomorrow (26 july 2019)...although, i do not plan on ever driving this car again.

Lug nuts swelling making it impossible to remove with supplied lug wrench.all 20 lug nuts show evidence of separation of the steel nut and the decorative chrome cover covering the steel lug nut.defect was found by tire dealer during purchase of new tires when the technician had difficulty removing lug nuts. According to the tire store manager this damage is caused by water getting between the steel nut and the decorative cap which causes rust to form.when the oxidation forms it puts pressure on the decorative cap causing it to expand.the normal 21mm wrench will not fit over the lug nut due to the expansion so the next size wrench is necessary which then damages the nut.the normal lug nut wrench supplied by the manufacturer for the car is therefore not able to be used to remove lug nuts.i have the damaged lug nuts if needed for examination
