My husband & i were involved in a collision with a deer on june 8, 2014, with our 2009 camry hybrid. We were traveling about 70 mph on interstate 72 east around jacksonville, il. It was a front end collision as you will see in the pictures. Neither of us was injured; however, the air bags did not deploy. Had this been something stationary that we had the collision with we would have been injured. Can you tell me why this would happen? i am now very concerned for my safety in my car. -this is the second time i have reported this and have gotten no follow up.

The contact owns a 2009 toyota camry hybrid.the contact stated that the driver side doors failed to lock and all the windows became inoperable.the contact stated that the passenger side air bag warning light was continuously illuminated.the vehicle was taken to the dealer for a diagnosis. The technician stated that the master window mechanism in the driver side door had overheated.the manufacturer was notified of the failure and verified that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 13v014000 (air bags, seats) or nhtsa campaign number: 12v491000 (visibility).the approximate failure mileage was 29,000.

I am driving our 2009 toyota camry hybrid which my husband and i purchased new. I was approaching the city of anacortes wa. I had been driving on sr 20 which goes from 55mph to 35 mph and from two lanes to one.i am approaching a light i have my foot on the brake when suddenly my car accelerated as if i had floored it, hittinga pickup truck in front of me. Upon impact it moved forward and then with my foot still on the brake i hit it again. I have no idea how fast i was going but for that brief time i felt as if i was in a rocket. I put the car in neutral and at this pointregained control and was able to pull to side of road. No damage to the truck. My front bumper needs to be replaced as well as bent license plate. Air bag did not deploy. The car was put on a flatbed and brought back to our residence some 50 miles away. Neither of us are thrilled about getting behind the wheel of this car again and so it sits in our garage.our plans are to get rid of this car even though we loved it up until this point.my husband called the dealership yesterday ( 3/30/15)and they referred him to toyota usa. He spoke with someone there and was given a case number he was told he would receive a call within twenty four hours. Well that came and went and when he called back today he was told the person who was handling this was gone for the day he was told she attempted to reach us twice. Strange she never left a message. We are at this time waiting for response.

2009 toyota camry hybrid dashboard melting in florida sun.i am concerned that the airbags will not deploy properly due to defect.contacted toyota regarding defect and was told that they know about the problem and have fixed the problem, but owners like me are out of luck.the cost for new dashboard is $1,400.i asked if they were certain that it would not affect airbag deployment and was told there is no way to know for sure.

The contact owns a 2009 toyota camry hybrid. The contact stated that when the brake pedal was depressed the vehicle vibrated. Additionally, the skid control and brake sensor warning lights illuminated. The contact had to brake with force to bring the vehicle to a stop.the vehicle was taken to the dealer. My daughter detected burning plastic smell inside the car while driving on a local street, stopped the car and saw black smoke coming out from the side of the window master switch and the bottom of the driver side door. I remembered there was a recall regarding the fire hazard of the master switch and took the car to the dealership on april 15. They informed me that my car was not on the recall list and it will be my responsibility to repair it. I called and open a case (# [xxx]) with their customer relationship department while i was waiting at the dealership for regular maintenance, reporting that the problem my car is experiencing proves that the recall coverage was too narrow and it is endangering all the owners that were not covered. The rep. ([xxx]) promised to provide me an answer in 2 business days but the call back never happened. As you are the government watchdog on vehicle safety issue, i am reporting to you the potential life threatening hazard of this particular vehicle model and look forward to your assistance to have this hazard resolved by toyota of usa.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

The power steering (rack and pinion) are hard to turn in motion or not in motion, toyota dealer charge us $3000, base on toyota certified mechanic it can fail anytime and cause accident. According to 2004-2009 toyota prius had the same problem. Toyotafinally make it as recall on the toyota prius. Replace the rack and pinion or any power steering parts. We do not know why toyota camry is not consider the same problem as a recall

While driving "check vsc system" warning displayed along with several warning lights.at that time the brakes on the vehicle felt squishy and much less responsive.

I was driving on the interstate (395n into dc) and the car's brakes failed. The car immediately displayed vehicle control system (vcs) failure and a number of other warnings. I was forced to swerve out of traffic and to utilize the emergency brake to stop the car.

Failure of combo meter assembly (gauge cluster) in 2009 toyota camry hybrid, resulting in vehicle not transitioning to gas engine power. All alert lights display, and vehicle only operates on battery power. Vehicle will operate at min. Power until battery empty. No warning of impending failure.vehicle will not communicate with dealership service diagnostic computers, requiring extensive communication with california toyota service center.vehicle routinely serviced using toyota recommended service schedules at toyota dealership. This failure has occurred three (3) times, the first two (2) events within 11 months, the 3rd event within 14 days of last dealership repair.

My 2009 toyota camry hybrid ecb has failed which causes braking issues and is a safety concern. There have been others reporting this to the nhtsa, but no action taken. Please force a recall as the whole braking system is at risk.

The warning panel indicated "check vsc system," along with a loud beeping noise. My brakes went out completely and as i pumped the brakes the went down to the floor. The car slowed but did not come toa complete stop. In order to avoid hitting an 18 wheeler in front of me, i had to pull over to the side and grazed my car against the metal part of a railing. When i brought it to toyota, they said it was a brake actuator and quoted me $3500 to fix the problem.

Abs and traction control are on the vehicle slips when taking of the vcs stability is onit's very scary to drive the vehicle.

Started vehicle in parking lot.warning lights indicated vsc (vehicle stability control) problem, along with abs problem.put vehicle in reverse, slowly moved backwards.brakes did not engage normally, only if the pedal was fully depressed.took vehicle (slowly) to a nearby toyota dealer.part that failed is the stroke sensor, which controls the operation of the brakes.had this failed at freeway speeds i am unsure that i could have safely stopped the vehicle or avoided a collision.this sensor is not covered under the powertrain warranty but i believe it should be as its failure is a serious safety issue.this part (according to the dealer) did not fail due to abuse, neglect or lack of maintenance.

My vsc light is on along with the abs and the brake light. While taking a 1 1/2 hour tript the light went off and stayed off for a few days. While taking another highway trip traveling the speed limit, the light was off until after driving for two hours i stopped at a restaurant. The lights came back on, and have been on ever since.

Brake, abs and warning lights came on, check vsc message came on and my brakes stopped working. I was leaving my parking lot and got halfway down the block when this occurred. I could not brake so i let the car roll to a stop and used the curb to make a complete stop. Car i had not moved since i drove it really slow to house.

I have 2 complaints. 1) i was driving in local traffic when 5 warning lights appeared: master warning light, brake warning light, electronically controlled brake warning, abs, slip indicator. I was surprised but my brakes continued to work on the drive home & to the dealership the next day.the lights never went off (some other owners have reported the lights go on & off). I do not have cold weather conditions (50s in dec). The dealership investigated & found it was consistent with the problem covered by the warranty enhancement program (pol14-04 or nhtsa 14001) for the brake actuator assembly & skid control ecu/brake pedal stroke sensor, & also an open recall on my car for a separate item with my brakes.my car symptoms were: when stopped at a light, the car would roll forward by inches unless i had my foot firmly depressed (knee locked); noises which sounded like air moving through tubing while braking; noises that sounded like a "pump" activating after my car had been turned off (up to 15 minutes).2) toyota has an open extended warranty (csc 10046281-9238) on the sun visor assembly & sun visor bracket including the 2009 camry hybrid.my car has had this same problem for ~4 years: the driver's side sun visor will not fully go up & remain there.most of the time it rests halfway down but from time to time it will come down with no warning.this blocks the driver's field of vision.what is frustrating is that i spoke to both the dealership & the toyota customer service center who both agree my problem sounds exactly like the problem described in this extended warranty.however, the part number for my car (74320-33c11-b0) is not listed among the accepted parts number, and my vin doesn't match the listed vins.i hope corporate toyota will look into this and extend me the courtesy of repairing my sun visor!(dealer cost ~$250).

I was driving on the interstate (395n into dc) and the car's brakes failed. The car immediately displayed vehicle control system (vcs) failure and a number of other warnings. I was forced to swerve out of traffic and to utilize the emergency brake to stop the car.

The contact owns a 2009 toyota camry hybrid. While driving approximately 5 mph, the abs, vsc, and brake warning indicators illuminated. The contact noticed that the brake lights remained illuminated on the rear of the vehicle. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the skid control computer failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired and the failure recurred. The manufacturer was made of the failure, and a case was opened and sent to the manufacturer's legal division. The approximate failure mileage was 132,138.

The hand brake light keeps coming on and off while driving. The car feels like it's coasting and have no traction control. All of the sudden, all lights turn on dashboard and check vsc system comes on, brakes are hard to engage and steering control is difficult. Car drives like that for about 5 minutes and then all goes back to normal. Few days later it starts up again with the break lights coming on and off. It happens during different driving conditions: straight city street, while turning, going down a hill or attempting to come to a stop. This makes it really scary as i am in a very dangerous situation when i am trying to break and the break do not engage and steering control is affected. I have taken it to mechanic after the incidents and they cannot diagnose the issue and there are no failure codes. However, the issue keeps going on making me terrified to drive the car.

While pulling into parking lot the warning lite & display said vsc with two brake related symbols turned on & brakes lost its power assist. Was able drive home while driving slowly giving a lot of room to stop, made a appointment with toyota dealership. Drove down was charged to troubleshoot they found the brake accumulator had internal failure, also was informed for that area of the car is out of warranty, so it would cost $4200 for parts & labor. I don't have that kind of spare coin sitting around. So i brought it home & parked it, i hope we can drive toyota to make a recall. Brake hydraulic parts should last 100,000 miles.

Vsc system warning light comes on, and the brakes become very "soft", nearly failing. This only happens when temperatures reach 50 degrees or below, and is quite common when it's around freezing or below.

The contact owns a 2009 toyota camry hybrid. While driving 30 mph, the brakes failed to engage correctly when the brake pedal was depressed. When the contact depressed the brake pedal, a loud chirping noise was heard from the brakes and the abs and vehicle stability control (vsc) indicator illuminated shortly afterwards. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The mechanic stated that failure code: t1391 pertaining to the brake assembly and vsc failed and needed to be repaired. The failure mileage was 156,000.

When i driving back yesterday jan 1st 2019 from friends house suddenly the check vsc system turned on and other icons turned on in thecar dashboard. I tried to press the brakes at a stop sign and they do not engage or they would engage on a delay, vehicle took long time to stop. It was hard driving back and i was scared of an accident happening even after turning on emergency blinkers on my drive back home. Toyota needs to investigate it as it is a safety issue.

I started the car and everything seemed normal.i started accelerating down the street and the dashboard lights up with all kinds of warning lights.mileage was between 69000-69450.the traction control, brake, master warning light, abs and the center display said "check vsc system".i continued to coast until a nearby stop sign and when applying pressure to brake, to my horror the brakes had an almost complete failure.i immediately went home, less than a mile away and the brakes continued to malfunction the whole way.i was able to stop but only with severe pressure to the brake peddle which only produced slight braking.there was no accident.coming back to the car the next day the warning dash lights were off and vehicle was working normal again.however, this also happened the following day halfway through a short trip across town.i took it to the dealer and they replaced a recall part, the brake fluid reservoir.they checked the computer for codes and these codes did not show up in the code history despite it being 2 days before.the problem has been intermittent and did not happen the day i took it in to the dealership.i explained to them the problems, sent them pictures of the dash lights i took from my phone, and printed out and gave them articles such as this: http://www.consumeraffairs.com/news/feds-investigate-braking-problems-in-toyota-camry-hybrid-012814.htmlbut because they were not able to duplicate the problem they assured me the vehicle was working properly.they did fix the brake reservoir and i picked the car up today.only time will tell if the safety of the vehicle remains. Thanks for listening. Updated 3/17/16

During routine maintenance, it was found that the water pump on the 2009 camry hybrid was leaking.this is not normal for a vehicle with 45,000.other toyota vehicles have been recalled for defective water pumps.i believe the investigation into defective water pumps needs to be expanded as this is not a normal failure.

Water pump failed at 31000 miles and 4 years old.consumer reports identified a high incident of failed water pumps. This is another example of poor quality parts, which toyota needs to recall and correct. Toyota needs to back their products.

I truly loved my hybrid camry until june of 2015 when my oil light came on and my oil was low shortly after having my oil changed. I contacted my mechanic and he researched the problem and found a bulletin regarding problems with oil consumption. I began to have to check my oil once a week and had to add 1-2 quarts per week. In late 2015, toyota sent out a notice regarding the oil consumption problem and offered oil consumption testing. I had my car tested and of course, my car was consuming oil. I was notified on 1-13-16 that my car was consuming oil and that i would be put on a waiting list for repairs. I continued to check and add oil to my car. I have now been told that parts are projected to be available in sept. 2016. In mid august, my engine light came on and i had to get my car to the closest mechanic as it was running poorly. I had to pull over on a busy highway. The codes showed the engine was misfiring and there problems with catalytic convertor. The mechanic stated that these problems were directly related to the excessive oil consumption and that the car is not operational and suggested we contact toyota. My husband contacted corporate toyota and was told that they are not responsible for anything other than replacing the pistons and rings. Both my husband and i commute to work, i am now without my vehicle (which i am still making payments to toyota), still waiting on parts for repair (toyota tells me to be patient, really???), facing charges to tow my car approx. 40 miles to the toyota dealership for repair once parts available, and paying approx. $1000 to replace the catalytic convertors before my car will be operational. I am completely disappointed withtoyota for taking no responsibility for these related issues and the amount of time it has taken to address and solve these problems (still waiting). Will not purchase another toyota vehicle.

Excess oil consumption (3+ quarts at 2000 miles use). Ongoing issue...auto technician indicated it was due to toyota recommended oil viscosity too thin allowing rings on pistons to seize; thereby allowing excess oil to bypass and burn off.

Went to get an oil change from toyota dealerships - the oil consumption test were run and it detected normal (tested twice because inconclusive). The check engine light went on when traveling out of state, there was no indication of lose of engine oil and then car made a strange sound. Vehicle stopped on the bridge, it sounded like something was bragging with the engine. The vehicle was moving and presented not signs of problems when this incident occurred, the vehicle was normally serviced at dealerships and have always responded to updates. The motor did not show signs of wear or tear, was taken into the dealership for service and did not know of the excessive oil consumption. The vehicle is now located in virginia beach, the mileage is over 260,000 and to have the vehicle towed back to my residence would be too costly. The vehicle repairs have been estimated to cost $3000 to repair the motor and more to replace the motor.

My car does not start when the weather gets chilli. Tryed so many times but won't turn on

Dealer suspected crack in engine block during routine service. Confirmed by independent mechanic. Origin unknown. Vehicle never involved in accident. Crack extends from main motor mount approximately 12 inches. No explanation. Second owner. Positive carfax.

The water pump is making a terrible noise, and will fail soon.toyota recalled 2.7 million vehicles for water pump problems but they say mine is not recalled.i think it should be.it is making a terrible noise.

Excessive engine oil consumption.have to add oil at 830 miles.brought to the dealership numerous times for oil consumption test but was always told it passed the test.received a warranty enhancement notification from toyota but it's already expired.it was not expired when i brought my car to the dealership numerous times.

Water pump failure 5,000 outside of warranty.both dealer and toyota corporate refused to compensate.owned vehicle 6 months, purchased from a toyota dealer.

I have been noticing that my car has been burning excessive oil for over a year.when i have taken my car in for the regularly scheduled oil changes the service department (not toyota) has not found a problem.recently a friend found out on line that there is a toyota warranty enhancement for this issue good for 10 years/150,000 miles.i called a local toyota service department but i am outside of the warranty enhancement because i am over the 150,000 miles but i am within the years.my caris 8 years old with 154,000 miles.i told them that i have been having this issue for a year and my car had about 137,000 miles at the time i noticed it was an issue.the suggested i called the toyota motor company,i called them on 6/15/2017 but i did not get any satisfaction. They will not honor the warranty enhancement since i am over the miles.they say this is a warranty enhancement and not a recall.it should be a recall.the woman i spoke to made a comment that i do not take my vehicle to be serviced at the dealership.today i looked at my records.i have taken my car to toyota to be service, recall issues and another warranty enhancement that i was not notified about.i told them today 7/12/2017 that i have taken it to toyota service department numerous times but i was not informed of the excessive oil burning issue.she said that i would need to tell them i was having a problem first.she alleged that i was sent a letter but i never received a letter.i should have asked her why i was sent a letter but when i have asked toyota if there were any recalls they did not tell me about the excessive oil burning issue.i am putting a quart of oil in my car per week (500 miles).this is very expensive.i am waiting to here back from a supervisor.there is a problem but toyota is being sneaking and dishonest about the issue.

I took my camry to autoland dealer ship for regular 65,000 mile service, i was told there is a water pump failure.i would like to investigate and see if there are problems known for hybrid camry for pump failure. I am also an owner of toyota priys on which toyota had a voluntary re-call on hybrid water pump, and mechanical should also be checked.i did speak with toyota corporate and asked them i should not be paying $650.00 for this pump failuer. Please advise me of my rights and course of action with toyota for investigation.[xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Car air system smells moldy and has from day one when new. Complained to dealer who changed the hepa filter and checked drain plug (it was clear). Same result. Spraying air intake with lysol seems to help for a short while. Pretty disgusting.

This was a multi car pileup on a road with 40mph speed limit which resulted from a vehicle ahead making an abrupt stop.this resulted in about 4 cars behind it having to come to stop resulting in a chain reaction.my car, 2009 toyota camry hybrid, could not come to a stop in time when full breaking was applied and ended up colliding with the car in front of me. Mine was the last vehicle in the pileup. This incident resulted in front end damage to my car and rear end damage to the car in front of me, and to two other cars in front of that car.my car could not come to a complete stop in time because i believe the breaks did not function properly.i wasn't aware of any break issues at that time and it was only about two years later i was informed by the dealer service department that there is a recall on this vehicle that involved break fluid reservoir assembly. I am reasonably certain that the accident on 3-8-2012 was the result of breaks not functioning properly and that my car could not stop in time to avoid a frontal collision while traveling at a relatively slow speed of 40mph.

Noise made when turn on heater. This happened suddenly with no previous noises before. Had been in car driving and using heater for about an hour before the noise started. This vehicle also had two other issues. Passenger & driver visors wont stay up. The door locks wont work. They haven't worked since not long after purchased vehicle. One day they work, another not.

The contact owns a 2009 toyota camry hybrid. The contact stated that the brake pedal failed to respond, while driving at 30 mph. The vehicle had to be driven on a dirt road in order for it to come to d a stop. All warning indicators illuminated when the failure occurred. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed as the actuator needed to be replaced and the sensor needed to be reprogrammed. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 93,000.

The contact owns a 2009 toyota camry hybrid. The contact stated while reversing, the vehicle erroneously accelerated to 75 mph and the contact crashed into another vehicle. There were no injuries. A police report was filed of the incident. The vehicle was destroyed. The manufacturer was notified of the defect.the approximate failure mileage was 26,000.

Having parked the car overnight in the garage, got in car with passenger and attempted to back out of garage. Car lunged forward, then correcting itself and started backward. This has happened on several occasions both in the garage and in parking lots. Mentioned problem to friend with same car and he said he hadn't noticed a problem but came to work several months later and said it had happened to him while his wife was a passenger.

Abs brakes have a surge.right front tire skids in hard stopping.

The check vsc system warning came on along with abs and brake light warnings.out of the blue the car was very hard to stop.was lucky to be in a parking lot at the time.had the car towed home.the tow driver did not see the warning lights when he was getting the car in position to tow it.check online and saw that many other people where having the same issue that i was having.i think the car is unsafe and a recall should be issued before people are killed.

Brake system failed.car towed to beaman toyota.computer controls reflashed to reset braking system.

The contact owns a 2009 toyota camry hybrid. While driving approximately 5 mph, the abs, vsc, and brake warning indicators illuminated. Driving at about 30 mph on a straight road 6am approx. 1 mile from my house.i applied brakes intending to make a left turn then vsc warning light came on and brakes did not work properly. No cars in front of me, had to push hard on the brake pedal to slow the car. I missed my intersection to turn. It is as if the power system to the brakes stopped working. I slowed enough to turn the car onto a sided street and pumped the brakes hard, it is still difficult to brake, but at least i know i have to apply heavy foot pressure to brake. Turned car off and back on again and vsc light came on again, then turned off after 1 minute and power braking returned to normal.

Streets wet and snowy vehicle surges without foot on gas.check vsc light comes on.checked out by molle toyota who said unless it acts up while there, they can do nothing.3-20-13.streets only wet.vehicle surges and check vsc light comes on.have to keep foot on brake to put in garage.afraid to drive car.

I have been feeling from last 2 or 3 days that my toyota camry brakes were not working right and they required additional pedaling to brake and somehow i was able to feel that it was taking extra time and distance to stop and was planning to show this to toyota dealer today , i have talked about this during previous service with toyota service center during my previous service & they told me everything was ok and my brake pads were good, but unfortunately my fears came true today then when i was driving 20-25mph and suddenly a car ahead of me almost 20-25feet ahead braked and i pushed hard to brake but i could feel it was not braking right or the hybrids braking system has failed and my car didn't stop in the right time and we hit the car ahead of us.

The contact owns a 2009 toyota camry hybrid. After the vehicle was started, the brake pedal had to be depressed with force and all of the warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The technician diagnosed that the brake reservoir and abs actuator were faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 92,500.

While driving "check vsc system" warning displayed along with several warning lights.at that time the brakes on the vehicle felt squishy and much less responsive.

Driving down the road all lights on dash appeared (abs, trac, brake, check engine, master warning, check vsc system)with no warning and complete brake loss followed with it, then it would disappear and brakes functioned properly, seems temp related as it would only happen on cold days, and when car is cold early in the morning, during day when engine warm everything worked fine, tech could not find anything wrong with the car twice until left over night found out to be faulty brake actuator assembly. This is only related to camry hybrids not prius or other toyota hybrids, my whole family drives toyotas hybrids father in law and 2 brothers have priuses i also had prius for long time never had issue, now me and my wife switched to camry hybrids and both camry hybrids experienced same brake failure with faulty brake actuator, no coincidence, there is something unique about camry hybrid brake actuator that makes it go bad in very dangerous way, problem occurs sudden and disappears without trace for technician to find out what's wrong " everything is fine car is safe to drive" is what they said, but in morning commute brakes failed again. I don't care the replacement part costs $1700 but its the same part that will fail again who know when. Toyota needs replace the actuators with ones that are on priuses or address the issue and redesign the unit.

On my 2009 camry hybrid, as i was going to work, when i tried to slow down the car the brakes went hard and can't stop the car totallyi saw the brake light, traction control, and abs lights turned on, and check vsc system displayed. I immediately slow down the car took the exit and stop the car. I turned off the car and start the car again which fixed all the above issues.it happened approx two weeks ago and took the car to toyota of grapevine tx 76051 and they did not find any issue related to brake or any code. I am scared to drive the car and taking the car to the same dealer to check again.

Vsc system warning light comes on, and the brakes become very "soft", nearly failing. This only happens when temperatures reach 50 degrees or below, and is quite common when it's around freezing or below.

While pulling into parking lot the warning lite & display said vsc with two brake related symbols turned on & brakes lost its power assist. I don't have that kind of spare coin sitting around. So i brought it home & parked it, i hope we can drive toyota to make a recall. Brake hydraulic parts should last 100,000 miles.

Abs surging and fluctuating during stopping.

The contact owns a 2009 toyota camry hybrid. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 10 mph, the brakes seized as the vsc and the abs warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the brake cylinder needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred two additional times. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 73,000.

Brakes not fixed in previous service.brakes still surging and pulsing during stops.

The contact owns a 2009 toyota camry hybrid. The contact stated while operating the vehicle, the abs, vsc, and check brake system warning lights illuminated and the vehicle would not immediately stop while depressing the brake pedal. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The local dealer and manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 131,000.

The contact owns a 2009 toyota camry hybrid. While driving at approximately 20 mph, the lights on the instrument panel illuminated and the brakes failed when the pedal was depressed. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the brake code c1247 stroke sensor needed to be recalibrated.the vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 57,000.

While driving on sunday, march 30, 2013 i lost the power braking. This is the second time since that this happened. The first time was september 18, 2012. I was able to pull the car over safely but it was an extremely scary situation. Had i been on a highway at 55-65 mph i would have never been able to stop the car and would have likely caused an accident. A message appeared onmy dashboard indicating to "check vsc system". Several other lights were lit up as well including the word "brake". After doing some online research and finding out that this same thing was reported by other consumers i thought it best that i reach out to see if a recall is warranted.

Vibration and surging from brakes during hard stopping.

My 2009 camry hybrid with 79,000 miles had a complete brake failure. The check vsc system light and the check engine red triangle with exclamation point light came on after the brakes totally failed. There had been a buzzing/ hissing sound that is similar to the normal hybrid battery recharging sound but much more often - almost constant. Car had to be towed to the toyota dealership as it was unsafe to operate, no braking power whatsoever. Pedal was rock hard. Dealer says it is the brake actuator and gave an estimate of $3000 to repair it! they claim to have no knowledge of problems with this, yet an investigation by the nhtsa was implemented in january of this year due to many complaints. This is an absolute safety hazard, had i been at highway speeds or in a congested area an accident would have occurred. Toyota needs to recall these vehicles and this model year - 2009 - needs to be included in the investigation.

Dashboard on my 2009 toyota camry hybrid bought in florida new has become a danger to driving do to the shiny and stickiness on the dashboard. Back in august 13, 2014i noticed when driving in the daylight the glare from the dashboard distorts your view the problem it seems to be getting worse i called the toyota dealership where i bought the car and i told the service manager the problem he said they know about it and there is nothing they can do.i went to a car detailing service and they said it is the worse they seen he also checked on the websitefor a solution, now it is up to nhtsa to force toyota to correct the problem before some one gets killed.

Unknownmy vehicle was mobile, at the normal speed limit of 35mph on a city street, and all of a sudden there was a burning smell.by the time i found a safe place to stop my all the lights on my dash went on, with a whizzing sound coming from the front end of the vehicle.

While driving straight at about 40 mph (in a 50 mph zone on a back road) i stepped on the brakes when approaching a stop sign. The brakes failed to engage. The check vbs system warning came on as well as all of the dash board warning lights. The car was checked and the brake pads were fine, the brake fluid level was normal, and no computer codes came up when that was checked. The brake light keeps coming on and off and the brakes work most of the time, but out of no where they won't engage. It was very scary, especially because my kids were in the car. Thank goodness i wasn't going faster than i was because i don't think we would have stopped in time.

The contact owns a 2009 toyota camry hybrid. The contact stated that while traveling various speeds, the brakes failed to respond to deceleration attempts. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was found that the abs needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not contacted about the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 30,000.

The contact owned a 2009 toyota camry hybrid. While the contact's husband was driving 5 mph, the brake pedal was depressed and the vehicle inadvertently accelerated without warning. As a result, the vehicle crashed into a brick wall. There were no injuries and a police report was not filed. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was destroyed. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 107,683.

First incident:temperature was extremely cold overnight.parking brake light came on when i started car and remained on throughout my 10-minute trip.brakes worked fine for 10 minutes though stop signs and red lights.i didn't drive over 35 mph the entire trip.when i arrived at work, i tapped the brakes to turn into the driveway."check vsc system" message appeared, parking brake light remained on, abs light came on, exclamation point light came on, one other warning light came on.i thought car had stalled because my brakes didn't seem to work so i coasted past the driveway.i stepped on the accelerator and noticed the car was still on so i slowly drove to the next driveway.i turned off the car, restarted it, and all the warning lights came back on.i slowly drove back to work and noticed the brakes worked albeit not very well.when i stopped the car in the parking lot, all the warning lights disappeared.second incident:temperature was extremely cold overnight.parking brake light came on when i started car and remained on throughout my 10-minute trip.brakes worked fine for 10 minutes through stop signs and red lights.i didn't drive over 45 mph the entire trip.i came to a red light and tapped the brakes."check vsc system" message appeared, parking brake light remained on, abs light came on, exclamation point light came on, one other warning light came on.although the brakes worked in reduced capacity, i stopped in time but i was driving 25 mph.i was near a toyota dealer so i slowly made my way there with all the warning lights illuminated and reduced brake capacity.all the warning lights disappeared shortly after i stopped the car in the dealer's maintenance shop.dealer could find no history of either incident in the computer log.

Backing out of parking space.check vsc light came on. Check abs, parking brake stayed lit, exclamation mark, and exclamation mark inside red triangle.was able to drive car home, but brakes seemed to "grab" and not be as responsive.will take car to mechanic tomorrow, but am reading that this may be a problem with 2007-2009 hybrids and wanted to report.

Brake comes on, abs light comes on and it becomes difficult to brake (brakes are hard).then after an hour or so the lights go off and brakes return to normal.i noticed that when it returns to normal there is a heavy bump, it actually feels like someone bumped you from the rear.this has happened off and on for about 3 months now.i took it to my mechanic thinking it was something minor, pads etc. And it was not that.on 11/28/18 i took it to the dealership.they found nothing wrong.not sure what else can be done.this is very frustrating and potentially dangerous.because this problem can happen at any time with no warning, it has happened while driving and also starting the vehicle.my personal mechanic did find some information that may pertain to this problem (warranty enhancement program - ze1 2007 - 2011 model year camry hybrid vehicles extension of warranty coverage for brake actuator assembly and skid control ecu/break pedal sensor)service campaign bulletin ref# t-cp-ze1, date of issue july 1, 2014.

While i was driving on the freeway a "check vsc systems" alert appeared followed by a loud noise.it appeared as if my emergency brake went on as well.as i drove, smoke came out from my car.i took my card into a repair shop and they said it was a miracle the brake and brake pump didn't set on fire.as a result, i have to pay $4000 for a new brake and brake pump (as well as labor).i called toyota to tell them about this problem, but they said they do not cover it, even though many others have had the same problem as well.

The contact owns a 2009 toyota camry hybrid. While driving 25 mph, a chime activated and the brakes warning light illuminated and the brakes failed to engage. The failure recurred and the vehicle was taken to a dealer. The technician was unable to diagnose the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 106,000.

This is the 3rd time that my check vsc system has come on. I was driving on the street and came to a light and my brakes locked and i couldn't stop right away. Lucky there was no car in front of me because i would have hit them. I had press hard on the brakes which causes the car to start bucking. This is very dangerous. I am looking to purchase another car because i don't feel safe in this car.

This is the second time mycheck abs system has come on.the first time the brakes were very hard to work and would hardly stop and grabbed.this was found to be a broken wire in in the rear of the car.now it has happened again and this time they say it is the rear harness that is bad and it is not covered by warranty.most of the 79 complaints are for these problems and there is yet to be a recall.this is nuts!does someone have to get killed before the nhtsa does anything.this is a major safety issue, its the brakes!!!.

Abs brakes not operating properly.grabbing and causing one tire to skid.

While driving at safe speeds, sudden loss of power-brake assist.vehicle could be stopped but required extra brake pedal force and distance."check brakes" and "vsc" warning lights illuminated.this occurred a couple of times so vehicle was taken to local toyota dealership.they could not replicate the problem but determined that most likely problem was the hybrid brake regenerating system and replaced the "brake stroke sensor".note that our camry is a 2009 model--i recently read about this problem occurring in 2007 and 2008 model years.

Complete failure of braking system. Replaced at cost of $3,194.61.

The contact owns a 2009 toyota camry hybrid. While driving approximatey 10 mph and attempting to stop, the vehicle would not stop or slow down when depressing the brake pedal. During the failure, several warning messages and indicators displayed and illuminated including "check vsc system" (vehicle stability control), abs, master warning, and brake failure. When the contact turned off and restarted the vehicle, it operated normally. The vehicle was taken to passport toyota (5001 auth way, suitland, md) to be diagnosed, but the failure could not be duplicated. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 106,571.

My 2009 toyota camry hybrid ecb has failed which causes braking issues and is a safety concern. There have been others reporting this to the nhtsa, but no action taken. Please force a recall as the whole braking system is at risk.

The contact owns a 2009 toyota camry hybrid. While driving 45 mph and depressing the brake pedal, the vehicle failed to stop. The contact shifted into low gear and was able to coast the vehicle to the side of the road. In addition, the abs, traction control, and brake warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and did not assist. The approximate failure mileage was 137,000.

The technician diagnosed that the stroke sensor detector system needed to be reset. The remedy was implemented several times however, the failure was not corrected. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 45,757 and the current mileage was 51,000.

The check vsc system was displayed in my totoya camry 2009 hybrid, this morning. The warning, abs, brakes, parking brake and skid control lights have turned on. From test driving the vehicle, it appears that the brakes seem less responsive.

2009 toyota camry hybrid that has been serviced several times for brakes. Repeated requests to change brake pads, which was initially thought to be the problem but several mechanics have confirmed that this was not the issue. Contacted toyota headquarters whom confirmed that there is no recall. Instead, owners are encouraged to visit their local dealer only if a dashboard warning brake light is lit, which was not applicable in my case although a degredation in the brake system was apparent. Toyota only sent a notice regarding the brake-fluid reservoir tank and no warning to consumers of a serious safety riskregarding a defective brake system that worsens overtime.currently having a difficult time selling the vehicle due to same feedback/complaint of slow brake response, which worsens with higher speeds and/or sudden stops. Reports of extra effort in brake pedal application, strong vibration and noise when attempting to do a quick stop. This issue has resulted in three separate car accidents with three different drivers, wherein two collided with another vehicle and one struck an object, all within a 2-month period. Claims where filed under my insurance and all drivers were deemed to be at fault, but toyota should be held completely responsible for the (1) defect, (2) failure to notify consumers of an urgent safety risk and (3) failure to recall, despite the number of similar complaints and accidents with nhtsa. Toyota's improper handling and failure to acknowledge a defect in their product warrants a class action lawsuit.

I was driving on the interstate (395n into dc) and the car's brakes failed. The car immediately displayed vehicle control system (vcs) failure and a number of other warnings. I was forced to swerve out of traffic and to utilize the emergency brake to stop the car.

I was traveling eastbound on a city street turning into a shopping plaza and applied the brakes to let opposite westboard traffic to clear. The car did not respond to the brakes and i hit the center concrete median that divides east and westbound traffic.

The contact owns a 2009 toyota camry hybrid. The contact stated that while driving and depressing the brake pedal, the vehicle would not immediately stop, causing the stopping distance to become extended. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the abs module was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The local dealer and manufacturer were notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was approximately 130,000.

When i am braking and go over a bump, the car feels like it speeds up before braking resumes.

I was driving and all of a sudden there was a buzzer and several warning lights came on the dash - master warning light, brake system warning light, brake system warning light, and there was a warning message that said "check vsc system".then when i tried to apply my brakes, they started pumping and i had a hard time stopping.i managed to make it the few blocks to my house and i called the dealer service department.they said it was unsafe to drive and i had it towed to the service department.the car had been there 8 days prior for a normal service appointment.they said that the stroke sensor had gone out and when i asked how it happened they said it just malfunctioned for no reason.the cost to replace was $433.14.i am concerned about driving a car that can suddenly malfunction and lose braking function without warning.the car had received its regular service/maintenance just a week before, so there is no reason that the brakes should have failed without warning.

The steering column became less responsive and has play in it when turning. The u joints appear to have worn out prematurely and are in need of replacement. I've owned several toyotas and this is the first one that has had this problem.

The dashboard on my toyota camry is melting leaving a very shining effect that makes it difficult to see due to the glare.i have tried to clean it but nothing works and everthing sticks to it. I understand toyota is aware of the problem but will not do anythng to repair it.

Dashboard is getting sticky and appears to be melting. I am concerned that this could become a safety issue causing glare on the windshield.

Re: tsb-l-sb-0144-11 sticky/melting dashboardthe car is 6 months beyond the date of the warranty enhancement period. Since the condition of shiny stickiness of the dashboard did not come to my attention until after the enhancement period, i believe that i am nevertheless entitled to the repair of the dashboard by toyota and that coverage should be also extended to the replacement of certain ancillary parts related to the replacement that might be damaged as a result of the warranty repair. There is no valid reason that the warranty enhancement should have expired as this condition is dangerous and needs to be corrected on all affected vehicles regardless of an arbitrary period set by toyota.

The dash on the camry becomes very tacky and reflective, especially during warmer weather.obscures vision through windshield due to glare and reflection.also concerned of any toxic fumes which may be released due to this chemical reaction in an enclosed cabin of a vehicle.

My dashboard appears to be melting, it is sticky and causing an awful glare on the windshield which in turn restricts vision through the windshield, please help, toyota says there is nothing they can do?

My dashboard is melting, since it is melting it is causing the dashboard to be really shiney, which is causing a huge reflection on my windshield, which is making it hard to see out. The dashboard is also really sticky from melting, and im also concerned about the airbags because of this.

My husband & i were involved in a collision with a deer on june 8, 2014,with our 2009 camry hybrid.we were traveling about 70 mph on interstate 72 east around jacksonville, il.it was a front end collision as you will see in the pictures.neither of us was injured; however, the air bags did not deploy.had this been something stationary that we had the collision with we would have been injured.can you tell me why this would happen?i am now very concerned for my safety in my car.

The rubber button to open the trunk melted, down to the rear bumper of my car (black).

The driver side sun visor does not stay up and is a danger to drive and causes limited vision to see the road.this seems to be a widespread problem with camrys.

I am the original owner of a 2009 toyota camry hybrid.the dashboard is melting and is extremely sticky.this causes a glare on the windshield which could cause an accident.this dashboard needs to be replaced.please advise!i'll be looking forward to your response.thank you!

My dashboard is melting, since it is melting it is causing the dashboard to be really shiney, which is causing a huge reflection on my windshield, which is making it hard to see out. The dashboard is also really sticky from melting, and im also concerned about the airbags because of this.

Vsc system keeping appearing on the dash board

The check vsc system was displayed in my totoya camry 2009 hybrid, this morning. The warning, abs, brakes, parking brake and skid control lights have turned on. From test driving the vehicle, it appears that the brakes seem less responsive.

Abs and traction control are on the vehicle slips when taking of the vcs stability is onit's very scary to drive the vehicle.

Limited visibility thru windshield due to dashboard reflection (melting dashboard has caused a high gloss finish).this condition has become progressively worse over time and presents a serious safety hazard.toyota has created a warranty enhancement program to replace these defective dashboards, however, my dealership has indicated the dashboards are limited and said he has a customer already waiting 6 months.i talked with toyota customer service and they would not acknowledge this as a safety hazard, could not tell me when a replacement dashboard would be available and referred me back to the dealership.toyota doesn't seem compelled to replace these parts in a timely manner.in my opinion this is most definitely a serious safety hazard that needs to be addressed and should be classified as a recall and not a 'warranty enhancement".please see attached images.

My car does not start when the weather gets chilli. Tryed so many times but won't turn on

Driver side sun visor will not stay in up position.it flops down, blocking vision. Toyota says they may or may not cover it.seems like a hazzard that they are responsible for.

While driving "check vsc system" warning displayed along with several warning lights.at that time the brakes on the vehicle felt squishy and much less responsive.

Accelerated to pass car on interstate. Car lunged forward full throttle. Tapped on accelerator to disengage, no response. Braking did not slow car. Put car into neutral, turned on hazard lights. Went another 2-3 miles until car slowed enough to pull over, off road. Turned car off, waited a minute and stated car, it was full throttle. Waited another minute or two, started car with same result. Third time i started vehicle, it reacted in normal fashion. Drove to next exit and called toyota dealer. Vehicle towed to dealership; given a loaner. 5 days later notified to pick up vehicle. Informed by dealer "the floor mat ticking caused the pedal to stick". Same floor mats have been in vehicle since date of purchase 5 years ago.

In the five years i have owned the car, four times it has accelerated rapidly for no reason. The car just jumps forward by 5 or 6 feet. The last time, i was parking the car, with my foot barely on the accelerator. It suddenly leaped forward. I would have hit a pedestrian on the sidewalk, except that the car got stuck on a snowbank. I have reported these incidents to toyota, which investigated and said there was nothing wrong with the car.

Vsc system warning light comes on, and the brakes become very "soft", nearly failing. This only happens when temperatures reach 50 degrees or below, and is quite common when it's around freezing or below.

2009 toyota camry while on the state highway i set the cruise control to 70 mph, during the exit of the highway on my way home i stopped at a stop sign in back of others cars, switch the car on neutral while looking for some documents on my briefcase, when the light changed to green once again the transmission was switch to the drive position and without touching the accelerator pedal there was uncontrolled sudden acceleration incident of the car, and the tires start squealing, brake were depressed hard but the vehicle would not slow down, immediately was shifted to neutral once again, and turn off, because the car engine was in acceleration mode. Lucky that it did not crashed into the rear of a brand new mercedes benz. I had never experienced this situation before. The car had been used but the cruise control has not been set up. This car was already modified with the recall of the mat and accelerator gas pedal modification. The failure and current mileage were approximately 36,500. There are about 150 similar cases all in 2009 toyota camry on internet site:http://www.aboutautomobile.com/complaint/2009/toyota/camry/vehicle+speed+controli feel that whatever mechanical fix that toyota modified, did not worked, and they should be looking at an electronic issue with the acceleration or cruise control system black box.

2009 toyota camry acceleration problem happened after recall fixes.was pulling into parking space slowly when acc. Pedal dropped and engine zoomed.i was able to stomp hard on brakes and not hit the building since hybrid gas part of engine disengages when the brake pedal is used.

The contact owns a 2009 toyota camry hv. The vehicle wasserviced under nhtsa recall campaign id number: 10v017000 (vehicle speed control: accelerator pedal) where the accelerator pedal was modified by shaving it down. When the contact received the vehicle back from the authorized dealer, the contact stated it was difficult to keep his foot on the accelerator pedal while driving, nearly causing a few crashes. The vehicle was not taken back to the dealer to be examined. The failure and current mileages were 9,428.

Driver side sun visor falls down unexpectedly.will not stay in place except for full down position.this has been since the car was new.was searching for how to fix it and found link to here.i understand that this is a common problem with all toyota visors and is due to bad design and poor materials.toyota does not stand behind it and the replacement visors are the same junk as original.

Sunvisor is not holding up. After contacting several of toyota dealerships with no avail i am finally complaining. I have noticed that there are many other toyota customers who have had similar issues with camry and camry hybrids sunvisors in models 2007-2011.many thanks

My dashboard is melting. When it solidifies it becomes extremely reflective and obstructs the windshield view.

While i was driving at about 65 mph on a four lane divided highway, the driver's visor suddenly and unexpectedly rotated completely down, blocking my view out of the windshield so that i could not see ahead. It was a dangerous and frightening situation! i had to keep control of the car while holding the visor up so that i could get home safely and then get the car to the repair facility. Toyota knew that this safety hazard existed and was serious because it did a "warranty enhancement notice" for 2007 to 2011 camry hybrid sun visor brackets, but this expired for my car in may of 2016.

Melting dashboard and driver's side visor does not stay up. The melting dash causes a glare on the windshield causing visibility to be obstucted. I was told that i missed the warranty period but have never been sent anything about this problem.

Sun visor on the driver's side of the car no long stays up, consequently it blocks my vision when i don't want it to.checked with my dealer and he said there is no active recall on this issue.frankly, this defect is unsafe and unacceptable.

I was driving home on ca highway 80 west from work when suddenly, my driver side visor dropped down in front of my windshield.i am disappointed with this toyota part because it has been an issue since i purchased this model in 2009.this visor does not seem to return to it's up position completely since 2009.now, in 2013, this visor has completely failed to return to it's upright position and can obstruct my view when i drive.i wish toyota would replace this visor since it is a "safety" issue when a part can obstruct the driver's side.i am also part of a carpool for my child and this will definitely be an issue when i drive several kids in my car.

The contact owns a 2009 toyota camry hybrid. The contact stated that the tires were rubbing against the vehicle and caused them to wear out in the inside. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who explained that the springs were too low causing the tires to wear prematurely. As a result, the tires needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was unknown....updated 02/19/16
