Airbag warning light came on. Error code was b1801 - open in d squib circuit.this indicates a problem with the wiring harness which activates the airbag. The spiral cable assembly or "clock-spring" was bad and needed to be replaced. After a call with toyota, they refused to replace it without charge due to out of warranty. This is the exact part that was involved with 6.4 million toyotas of various lines, including camrys. My toyota was not in the recall list based upon vin. Airbag wiring harnesses that break under normal usage like turning the steering wheel sound defective. Does the original recall need to be reviewed and expanded?

Air bags failed to deploy.the vehicle (2008 toyota camry hybrid), was involved in a front end collision which resulted in severe front end damage to the point that doors could not be opened.none of the air bags deployed, including by the knees, even though collision was hard enough to result in the driver hitting the dash with knees.all the officers taking reports along with the various tow truck drivers were shocked to see no air bag deployment due to the force of the collision and severe damage to front of vehicle, engine compartment, and frame.
The contact owns a 2008 toyota camry hybrid. The contact was sitting at a stop with the brakes depressed. The contact shifted into reverse and the vehicle abnormally accelerated and crashed into a building. The front passenger side of the vehicle was damaged. The contact stated that her neck was bruised from the seat belt when the vehicle jerked forward. The front air bags did not deploy.a police report was available.the vehicle was repaired. The failure and current mileage was 10,500. Updated 12/14/2011 the consumer stated the vehicle accelerated forward with great speed, while the vehicle was in reverse. Updated 04/28/11
4.20.2010sat .930pm dry clear roads 40mph night. Front end hit a residential parked car. Air bags deployed at wheel and knee. It was 75 degrees i had on shorts /sandals.i called 911 emts arrived i was crying with complaints of fire feeling in my legs from the airbag and i went to er complained of fire feeling. Ended up with fractured rightpinky area from steering wheel air bag deployment for some reason; i left hospital still with burning feeling in left leg. The contact owns a 2008 toyota camry hybrid. The contact stated that while driving at 40 mph, all the warning indicators illuminated and the brakes failed to respond. The contact also stated that the power steering failed and the a/c emitted hot air. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 130,000.
I was driving on i-94 highway, tried to open my passenger side front window using my driver side door window switch. The switch did not work. About 30 seconds later my car filled with smoke and i saw the smoke coming out of the driver side door panel. I pulled over and after a couple minutes the smoke stopped. The window switch for the passenger side window does not work now.
Late evening 1/10/17, while moving at 65mph on i-95, in moderate traffic, my dash lit up and brief alert tone sounded. Indicator read: "check vsc," brakes pulsed & got heavy.lasted 5 minutes, then alerts cleared.made a call to have a mechanic take a look on 1/13, however on the evening of 1/12/17while moving at low speed in a flow of cars, my brakes began clutching up & became very heavy & unresponsive, my dash lit up & a high-pitched alert tone sounded.the brake light, maintenance light & others lit up & dash indicator said "check vsc system... Maint required."when i stepped on the brake, the pedal pushed back, & as i tried to limp it into the parking lot, the brakes constantly engaged.i stopped to wait for a few minutes, & turned the car off but the high-pitched alert continued for several minutes.from inside the car i could hear a whirring noise in the front end, in the area of the tires.i let the vehicle sit for an hour or two, at which point, the alert tone had stopped but the whirring noise continued.i got inside & found the electronics were dim, most were not working.i stepped on the brake & the high-pitched alert tone resumed. Resistant force continued in the brake.i pushed the start button a few times, & eventually the dash lit back up with all of the warning indicators.the car started, but the brakes pulsed as if constantly engaged & occasionally being slammed.in gear, the problems persisted, so i got the car out of the way & turned it off.alert tone& whir continued, along with a burning kind of smell from the area of the front tires (right front tire well felt warm).it was dark, so i didn't notice if there was smoke of any color.because i worried that the whirring motor was going to burn up & possibly exacerbate matters, i disconnected the battery & had the car towed to a dealer.i have some videos if they are helpful.
While driving home from work my dash brake light went on. At the next stoplight i checked to see if the e brake had been depressed, it had not. One blck later while going about 35mph my dash lit up like a christmas tree, the abs, slippery conditions light, red warning light and check engine light all came on as well as a warning to "check vsc" also my breaks went down to the floor and i was unable to stop right away luckily i was able to quickly pull into a,parking lot and coast to a stop. Had i needed to stop soon or been going faster there is no doubt in my mind this would have resulted in a crash.
I was driving on a straight-line highway at 55mph in dry conditions when suddenly "check vsc system" warning indicator displayed. Brake light, brake icon and abs icons also illuminated. About 10 minutes later, system returned to normal while still driving straight down the road.
For several months, the cruise control had only been working intermittently and my brakes seemed rough. The night before i brought my car in, all the lights on the instrument panel came on. On aug 1, 2017, i got a diagnostic and it was the abs actuator, but i was told i also needed a brake job and an alignment so i went ahead with that $1,000 job. They could not diagnose the cruise control since it was "functioning" at the time. I had already replaced the abs system in 2013 and was told that i may apply for a reimbursement for that $3,600 job, but i am now out of the extended warranty/service campaign so i could not get reimbursed for the current abs failure replacement. After my brake job and alignment, the roughness did not seem to improve and the cruise control continued to malfunction. Foolishly, i rationalized that the brakes needed to be worn in, but soon my car started with a high pitched noise as i got in and out of the vehicle. The brakes also seemed to "slip" sometimes when initially starting the car. (foot on brake, start car, put into drive, and car would start to roll until i took my foot off the brake then reapplied it.) i went back to toyota hoping for a miracle and they again said you have to replace the abs, but the service campaign had not been re-extended and i was unable to afford another $3,600. So i continued to drive my faulty vehicle out of necessity. On october 12, 2017, the car began the high pitched noise and this time it didn't stop. I began driving in the parking lot slowly (20 mph) and then the brakes failed. Was able to stop by pressing very hard on the brakes. Since that day my car has been sitting at my workplace unused. Obviously, the abs system that was replaced in 2013 (still awaiting reimbursement) was replaced with another bad system. We need a recall!
Was in park in parking lot, switched to drive and immediately the brake light illuminated. Then the "check vsc" message came up on the computer. Proceeded to busy road and turn left, only to find out i had no braking power; other than the parking brake. With some luck and the parking brake i was able to bring the vehicle to a controlled stop. Fortunately it was 5am on my way to work at the hospital, if there was people or other vehicles there would be no way to stop the vehicle safely.
Brake warning light came on, then warning to check vsc system, 2 other warning lights and abs light came on, braking became difficult with resistance when applying brake, pulsing and lurching forward when foot on brake stopped at stoplight.this is happening intermittently.
Upon starting vehicle a "check vsc system" warning message was displayed. The maintenance "!", "brake drum", "trac" and "abs" warning lights illuminated.an obd2 code check was performed and a diagnostic code "c0210 rh rear speed sensor circuit" was returned.authorized toyota dealer/service replaced the right rear speed sensor and hub.warning signals reset was attempted, but failed. Diagnostic code remained.dealer proposed to begin replacing down-stream parts until code would be able to be reset.there was no guarantee that any of the replacements would correct the code or reset the abs& stability systems.aggressive conversation between the dealership and toyota could not resolve the issue.the vehicle is without the safety of the abs or traction control systems as long as the warning lights are on.reviewing multiple internet sites concerning this toyota vehicle related problem reveals numerous complaints and temporary solutions, which ultimately fail.it is surprising with the voluminous customer-logged complaints on this issue that toyota has not deepened its investigation on how to correct the problem.it appears that they have determined that each complaint is in individual problem and therefore easily ignored.
Check vsc system displayed and abs, traction control, emergency brake and caution lights are on and the brakes are very slow to respond.
About to leave from a parking lot at night, turned vehicle on.released emergency brake. Put car in reverse to back out.while backing out, noticed car not operating correctly.stopped backing out and reparked. Noticed engine dash lights were on:"check vsc system",abs, emergency parking light nonresponsive, triangular warning light and check engine light.looked into manual to read and said to take car in. Drove cararound parking lot to see how car handled.car braked but pumped on own after brake tapped each time. Braking ability and flexibility compromised. Being serviced now.
As the vehicle was being driven on 11/20/2014, "check vsc system" showed up on the multi-information display, and the master warning light, abs light, slip indicator light, and brake system warning light (yellow indicator) came on. Vehicle braking performance seemed slightly diminished but still safe to drive. On 11/22/2014 i had to make a trip to town, and not knowing the severity of the warnings, used the camry. While driving northbound at approximately 50 miles per hour, i indicated a right hand turn, and a westbound vehicle at a stop sign started turning from the road i was turning onto to drive north on the road i was turning off of. While attempting to slow down to make my turn, the brake performance was extremely poor. I was unable to slow down to a reasonable speed to make the turn and had to make my turn at a much higher than normal rate of speed to avoid colliding with the driver that was turning out in front of me. I finished my trip to town, allowing far more braking distance than normal, and returned home and left the vehicle in the garage. I checked the brake fluid level and it was within the normal range between min and max. This morning i contacted a local toyota dealer for a service appointment.
My brakes failed the first time on 1/29/14 on my way to work. Luckily, i wasn't going too fast, which allowed me to safely pull over onto one of the side streets. My car displayed the error message: "check vsc system." i called aaa, and one of their tow truck drivers suggested that rather than taking my car to the dealership, i use a different place (which he claimed was aaa approved; it wasn't). Nearly $500 later ($472.94 to be exact), my car seemed fine for about a month. Then on 2/26/14, this time while driving on the interstate, my brakes failed again. I got the same message as before: "check vsc system." this time, i asked to be towed to the dealership. Supposedly, nobody at the dealership was aware of a recall for this systematic problem. However, i have since found out that 59 other complaints have been reported for this very issue. That's only through january; i can imagine how many other times this happened that were not reported. I ate the cost (this time upwards of $3,800) to have the entire vehicle suspension control (vsc) unit completely replaced. This morning, 4/21/14, i turned on my car & was greeted with that old familiar message: "check vsc system." i'm afraid to try driving my car to work in this condition, and meanwhile i've sunk over $4,000 into "repairs" that do not seem to last. I always thought toyotas were such good, reliable cars. However, i'm not sure if i would buy another one at this rate. My car has less than 100k miles and i'm extremely disappointed with this headache. Does someone have to die before toyota actually steps up & issues a recall??
Loss of control or stability due to multiple problems created by faulty and weak internal components of the electric assist rack and pinion. The faulty electric assist rack and pinion causes undetectable micro-vibrations that leads to chaffing of the front tires, it also leads to uneven tread wear to the inside of the front tires which causes loss of traction at all speeds without implication of the wear. The underlying problem does not come to your attention with any warning or implications until the inevitable happens (which could be a fatal accident). While driving on a highway or suburban street that allows speeds in access of 45+mph is where the problem is at the highest risk causing a driver to lose control of the vehicle due to swaying of the tires because of the faulty electric assist rack and pinion, chaffing of the tires, and uneven wear of the tires. This is an extremely dangerous fault that should be addressed immediately. If you are aware of how dangerous it can be to drive a vehicle without brake pads, this is the equivalent of driving a vehicle without fingers.
Dash board lit up like a christmas tree the brake, hazard warning, stability control and i think its a tire pressure light came on traveling at 55 mile an hour coming down a 20 degree incline off of the astoria bridge traveling north, from what i have read this is something that is happening quite frequently. My brakes seam to work fine i am taking it to the dealer tomorrow i under stand this is a $3000.00 fix i did buy extra warranty when i bought the car now to see if its good. Its been a very good car up to this point.
Brake light came on, then sudden power braking system failure while driving on a two lane busy road at a curve, there was a ding sound, then simultaneously, a vsc warning message and multiple warning lights illuminated.only manual braking allowed stoppage of vehicle.extremely dangerous situationthat could have had tragic results .
The water pump on car has started to leak spraying coolant over the orange electrical wires in the engine compartment. This is a potential fire hazard. Also it can lead to engine overheating.one complaint has already been filed at this website by another customer. Toyotanation.comforum is filled with hundreds of complaints and pictures of similar nature and people have even posted pictures and instructions on how to change the water pump.i wish toyota would have some honor respect for customer safety and acknowledge this grave problem.
The contact owns a 2008 toyota camry hybrid. The contact stated that the vehicle revved abnormally and accelerated independently even when the brake pedal was depressed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it could not be diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 125,000. Engine is burning excessive amounts of oil.toyota refuses to issue recall on premature wearing engine components
We wish to register a complaint about excessive oil consumption in our 2008 toyota camry hybrid and which fell outside the criteria for the appropriate remedy which is to rebuild the engine according to toyota tsb 0094-11 "2az-fe engine oil consumption". In the tsb, it is noted 'some 2006 ' 2011 model year vehicles equipped with the 2az-fe engine may exhibit engine oil consumption. The piston assembly has been changed to minimize oil consumption.' we had our 2008 toyota camry hybrid tested february 2015, which was within the extended warranty period of 10 years or 150,000 miles. According to the dealer (tri county toyota, limerick pa), our car did not meet the criteria for an engine rebuild which is 'consumption of more than a quart of oil over 1200 miles.' according to this criterion, an engine which was burning 3 quarts of oil between oil changes (5,000 miles) could mathematically fail this test but is clearly defective. That is the situation we now find ourselves in. Our car has been serviced according to the manufacturer's recommendations for its entire life but has now used 3 quarts of oil between oil changes (5,000 miles). It is not leaking through seals to the exterior, and is therefore burning excessive oil, indicative of the fundamental problem which is the subject of the above-mentioned tsm.we therefore request that toyota rebuild the engine of our car, free of charge, with the modified piston assembly to rectify the situation.
My car consumes oil (will run empty) after a few thousand miles.i contacted toyota and there was a campaign pack in 2016.while they could produce dates and the alleged address they sent the campaign information too, i never received it.both notices did not arrive at my house.reading the complaints, i see i'm not the only one whom has this issue.i am the first and only owner of this vehicle.
Excessive burning oil.oil pressure light keep coming up on startup of car.the car burns a quart of oil a week.driving roughly 250 miles a week.
I have really good driving record with no accident & not even 1 ticket in the past 20 years before these 2 accidents & we've had the car for 6.5 years. 1st accident happened on 4/11/14 at 9:14am. Traffic was bad during the morning rush hour so all cars were travelling slowly. I was on fwy 5 heading s to the fwy 55 s ramp in ca. Matrix (1st car) suddenly stopped while all other cars were still moving forward. Equinox (2nd car) stopped & i immediately slammed my foot on the brake pedal. However, i didn't feel the car stopping at all & i thought i heard the engine roaring, but then thought it was only my illusion. Since the damage was only bumpers & headlights we just let insurance handled it & moved on with our life. However, i did start driving extra carefully after this incident. 2nd accident happened on 6/23/14 at 8:40am. Again, traffic was bad during morning rush hour. I was on jamboree in irvine, ca heading towards newport beach. I was waiting for the red light on jamboree at the 405 n bound exit intersection in the 2nd lane from left (total 4 lanes). There were already 2 accidents around there & light had just turned green. All cars were moving very slowly due to accidents nearby. Yukon had already pulled into the intersection & suddenly stopped. I was still behind the line with some distance & slammed on brake immediately but didn't feel the car stopping until hitting yukon. I heard brake sound and engine roaring again while my foot was on the brake pedal. This time the roaring sound was clear compare to april accident. It was at over-path of fwy 405 so the road was a bit going uphill. Hybrid does not start fast at all so i am sure my speed was very slow. Car is determined as totaled because engine went under yukon's spare tire hanging in the back. Toyota said hybrid has a black box that records data. Want to get access to the encrypted data if possible.
The low oil indicator came on a few months ago.i checked the oil and i was over 3 quarts low.i took it to the dealer and they dismissed it and told me it was a common problem.it happened again and i took it to a different dealer.they confirmed it was 3+ quarts low.i asked why it gets so low before a light turns on.they didn't know, but told me there was a national repair program because of a problem with oil consumption.the program had just closed and i did not qualify for any follow up warranty because of miles on the car.i called toyota and they refused to acknowledge a problem with the car and told me that they would not consider my car for any repair.i don't know how long i have been driving with low oil because the indicator does not warn me until there is barely any oil left in the engine.i don't know the extent of damage that has been caused because of this.the dealer told me that i need to check my oil weekly in order to keep the levels up and prevent any further damage.i am concerned i will have a total engine failure at any time because of the design flaw and refusal by toyota to repair this defect.i am driving a time bomb.i cannot in good conscience sell this car to some unsuspecting buyer and i cannot afford to replace the car at this time because i am in school.this car is unsafe to be on the road.at any time the engine could seize up and with the car being a hybrid and a utilizing a specialty transmission, when it does happen, it could cause a major accident.this is not safe.toyota needs to repair all of the vehicles affected by this known defect.
All toyotas with 2azfe engines and their variants need to be recalled. There is an inherent problem with excessive oil consumption due to a design flaw in both the pistons and rings of the engines. This problem then leads to problems with the emissions systems causing catalytic converter failure, a/f sensor failure and oxygen sensor failure. Toyota has known about the excessive oil consumption oil issue for years and has corrected its design. But, those who were unaware of this problem and never informed of it by toyota are left in the dark. My issue is that the oil consumption now affects the emissions system. It is increasing more difficult to rapidly accelerate due to the fact that this oil consumption has now ruined my catalytic converter and thus making acceleration at the proper rate impossible. I went to accelerate and my car couldn't do it properly, nearly causing an accident. Then i noticed my mil was illuminated. I had it checked and its a p0420 code. I have had the car diagnostically examined and now the car cannot meet the minimum threshold for the car's ecm to conduct a self test, thus illuminating the mil. I have heard of others running out of oil and seizing their engines during operation of their vehicles. This is unsafe. Nhtsa and toyota are both keenly aware of this issue, but nothing has been done to fix the vehicles that are already on the road. I went to my toyota dealership where i purchased this vehicle new and the service representative said that toyota will not fix these vehicles without the customer paying for the repair. The informal quote for the engine alone was $3500.00 alone, not including the emissions issues. This is an absolute disgrace. I hope you do something about this.
The water pump failed resulting in engine over heating - potentially disabling vehicle.
I was driving to work on the highway when all of the sudden my car started to slow down, i pushed on the accelerator and got nothing, the dash board lights came on and the car completely stalled. The computer screen said to "check hybrid system and check vsc system". I sat for awhile and tried to restart the car, it did start but it would move, and then it displayed on the computer, " put car in p" and again the message read check hybrid system and vsc system. The tow truck driver got into my vehicle to put it on the roll back and he noticed that the computer was saying the same thing to him, so i know i wasn't going crazy. The car was then towed to the dealership where i purchased it and they call me to tell me that the car is running fine and that there is no problem!!! i am furious, i bought this car because of toyota's reputation, reliability and safety. I do not feel safe in the car!!!
I was driving my 2008 toyota camry hybrid on a multi lanehighway at about 60 mph, when the car jerked, all indicator lights came on and the engine became completely unresponsive.i pushed the accelerator pedal to try to maneuver to the shoulder and there was no response (no engine rev., no acceleration).i managed to get the car to the shoulder and upon restart, the car drove hesitantly.i made it to a toyota dealership that night with all indicator lights still lit up.the next day as they began to look at the car, they could find no stored computer code for the problem and upon driving the car, it drove normally.as a result, they could not figure out the problem and have fixed nothing.a toyota service tech also looked at the car with the same result.i now am being forced to pick up my car unrepaired.as i listened to the news last evening (march 18, 2010), they reported on a problem with theevm module in toyota corolla's.this problem sounds very similar.
My dashboard has been melting for the last 2 month and now is a sticky and has an awful glare that is making driving very difficult for me.the dashboard is melting under the sun.
On sept 25, 2007 we purchased for my wife a new 2008 camry hybrid at longo toyota, el monte, ca.she experienced several problems (dead starter battery from headlights staying on or coming on after parking, car not decelerating when foot taken off accelerator, odd things with auto door locks) the first month, and when we called the dealer they talked us into attending a new owners meeting, so we could become more familiar with the car.when we brought these things up during the meeting, most of it was excused as being unfamiliar with the car features, although they took the camry and after 15 minutes told us nothing was wrong with the headlights. A supposed toyota headquarters rep stated to me, "the little woman isn't that techo, is she"?a month later she was stopped going to work in the early morning by chp, for driving without headlights being on, but was not ticketed because the officer witnessed the headlight switch was on. (we still notice the headlight doing odd things, and the switch is in the on position, not the auti position).back to the dealer, no problem found.early november 2009 we received from toyota motor sales usa a "potential floor mat interference with accelerator pedal safety recall campaign (interm notice)" which stated "we will notify you again as soon as a campaign remedy is available for your vehicle".we have heard nothing since that time, except for a sealed oversized business envelope last week, which was not about a fix to the vehicle problems, but sales materials on the new 5th generation 4runner. Toyota is still not owning up to all the defects in the camry hybrid.
As i was backing up the brakes went soft to the floor and then all of sudden engaged. A few days later my brake light, traction control, and abs light turned on and check vsc system was displayed.
My car accelerated for about 2 seconds. I have a camry hybrid which was not recalled but fixed anyway.
While driving approximately 65 mph on hwy, hybrid system failure alert turned on.no other indicators on.engine temp was normal.attempted to pull over after a few miles and car seized up, smoke was billowing from engine compartment.small flames visible through grill and within minutes entire engine compartment engulfed in flames.no prior problems except that about 6 weeks earlier the check engine light illuminated.i took to the dealer and after running complete engine diagnostic, dealer attributed problem to a loose gas cap.after that incident, the check engine light had not reappeared.i had the engine oil changed at the dealer 4 days prior to incident.car had approximately 28,000 miles.
The trunk latch release button overing has become sticky and gooey making the lock release button inoperable.

2008 camry hybrid stopped at a gas station with car was in park.no one in car, car came out of park, rolled out of station, across first 2 lanes, then median, then 2 additional lanes and ended up in a tree in/near a school yard/property.toyota had engineer review in early sept.toyota wrote letter in january that they refuse to further evaluate or be responsible for collision.an insurance agent at my carrier had exactly the same issue but her damage was below her deductible and she just had it repaired without telling toyota.

The contact owns a 2008 toyota camry hybrid. While driving approximately 10 mph, the vehicle experienced a complete loss of braking ability. The failure occurred without warning. The vehicle was towed to swope toyota (1085 n dixie hwy, elizabethtown, ky), but the failure could not be replicated. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000. The vin was not provided.
Vsc check engine error came on display along with check engine light, abs, parking brake, traction control, and something else.i was coming off the highway and exiting the off-ramp when the car binged, all the lights came on, the check vsc came on and the brakes hiccuped.i was already pulling off the highway, so i turned onto a side street.parked, and then restarted the car.the error came on again, but then went out.
As i was driving my car to work that day, i suddenly felt that the brakes lost power -- i had to press them much harder to slow the car down even by a small amount. Many lights on the dashboard went on, including something like "check vsc" on the dashboard display. I felt that the danger of getting into an accident was very high, particularly given that i was driving on a freeway. Driving very slowly, i managed to safely get to work. When i got into the car a few hours later, the situation did not repeat itself and it drove normally.still shaken, i brought the car over to a toyota dealership, where they told me that my abs actuator has gone bad. The best "discount" price i was able to find was $2,500. I researched online and realized that this problem is common. I called toyota corporate customer service to complain and request reimbursement, but they refused. Since i had no choice but to address this safety issue, i fixed the car at a local toyota dealership.however, since this is major safety problem, which is apparently quite widespread, i firmly believe that toyota must recall and replace the problematic part, and compensate the owners who had to do it on their own.
The contact owns a 2008 toyota camry hybrid. The contact stated while driving 30 mph the brake warning light illuminated and the brakes failed. Both the dealer and manufacture have been made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 110,000 miles.
While leaving work noticed that brakes were not working properly and it was very hard to stop. I had to leave a lot of room in order to come to a full stop. There were several warning lights on including "check vsc system". Took the car to the dealer and was told that the brake actuator needed to be replaced. Cost of the part and repair was $3400.
Brake warning light came on, then warning to check vsc system, 2 other warning lights and abs light came on, braking became difficult with resistance when applying brake, pulsing and lurching forward when foot on brake stopped at stoplight.this is happening intermittently.
While driving, the "check vsc system" warning came on, an immediate power reduction occurred and some brake pressure loss.dealership said the skid control ecu ($1800) and abs actuator ($2900) were both bad.after replacing both, warning lights are still on.problem not resolved yet.
On or about mid april 2018 this vehicle was left parked and unattended outside in upstate ny for approximately 2 weeks. The outside temperature at the time was from the mid 20s to the mid 30's with some snow. After 2 weeks, i came back and attempted to drive it from it's parked spot when i discovered the driver's side rear wheel locked up and the vehicle would not move. The vehicle was towed to a local garage where the d/s rear caliper pins were found frozen and the emergency brake was found rusted. On april 2019 the same vehicle was left parked in upstate ny when the local temperature varied from the low 30's to the high 30's with some snow on the ground.i returned after 2 weeks and this time it was discovered the rear wheels would not turn. The vehicle was again towed and the rear rotors were found extremely rusted and had to be replaced. The front rotors were also found extremely rusted but were not replaced at this time. The emergency brake was partially stuck and hard to brake free from rear rotor due to rust.
On nov 25th, 2013 around 9:30pm i was driving home from work. A couple of minutes in to my driving my brake stopped functioning. I tried to slam the brake, but the car didn't stop. Thankfully, there weren't lots of car on the road. I drove on the side grass for few hundred yards and finally managed to stopped the vehicle. The next day, i took it to the near by shop and they suggested that i should replace the brake since the car wasn't able to stop. After spending $650 to replace the brakes and brake pads, i left the shop. After 6 months the check vsc system light came on. I took it to toyota dealership and they told me that i've to replace abs brake actuator and quoted me around $3700. I didn't have that much money to spend, so i started searching for alternative on the internet. That is when, i ran in to this site where people are reporting the issues that their 2007-2008 toyota camry hybrid are having. I would like toyota to resolve this issue and fix my car. I need a way to get around and go to work. This is my only source of transportation and i need it on the road again as soon as possible. Thank you!
Was braking to a stop and it felt as if the brakes briefly disengaged causing the car to stop about 15 feet farther than expected, this has happened on several occasions in the last 6-8 months and is unpredictable.
My abs brake actuator failed while driving causing the brakes to stop functioning properly. I was forced to slam my brakes for the car to stop. Luckily i was in a parking lot going about 5 mph. Otherwise, i could have died or killed someone. There was no notice beforehand of the problem. I spoke to toyota customer care and they claim their was an extended warranty and supplemental warranty that were issued, but the supp warranty expired april of this year (2018) and at 150,000 miles. My car currently has 155k miles. I was never notified of this problem by toyota. They have my information on file. I would have either sold/traded in my vehicle last year had i known these cars have these problems. In researching online, nhtsa has investigated the brake actuater problems that have caused crashes and injuries. Toyota should have issued a recall like they were forced to do in 2009/2010 when they're accelerator pedals were sticking and people were dying.now toyota is going to charge me over $1,700 to fix the problem. I don't have a choice since the car is not in working condition.i have a case id with toyota customer care 1811131473. The lady just lied to me about toyota being unable to cover the problem. She made it sound like there was a contract in place and fixing my car would be breaking the terms. I asked her who negotiated the terms, and she didn't have an answer. I asked her if nhtsa or a class action forced toyota to accept the terms and she said no. Clearly, toyota has trained their customer service reps to lie to customers like me getting them to think there are absolute "terms" that cannot be changed in order to escape liability.
The abs actuator failed. My local dealership seems unaware this is a know issue with my car. The repair cost so far is $1800. It seems from all research that there are options, but my dealership has not offered me any nor have the communicate well. Trying to get to the service manager today. They have had my car for 5 business days.
Hard to press the brake pedal, warning lights, potential brake failure.
At 80k miles, my cars started to make strange and loud noise when i stepped on the break even when the car stopped or the engine is off.a toyota dealer told me the break actuator was bad and needed to replace to avoid running into the break problem.i spent $3200 to replace the break actuator at that dealer. I think toyota should recall the car and replace the break actuator for free because it is a very important safety feature of any car.
The contact owns a 2008 toyota camry hybrid. The contact stated that while attempting to park, the brakes failed to engage. The contact mentioned that immediately after the failure the vsc light warning illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure.the failure and current mileage was 74,800.
The brake actuator on these camry and camry hybrid models is a complaint of thousands of these models of toyotas.when taken to a dealer, they want approximately $4000 to repair the problem ($2800 for the part and $1200 for labor) and at 3 separate dealerships the undertone comment from the service writer is that toyota should recall these cars and replace this part but until someone is killed in the car from the brakes failing, nothing is going to happen;it is a huge safety concern. Why isn't toyota demanded to make a recall on a part that is defective in thousands of the camry and hybrid camry models?there are massive complaints recorded via computer and maybe people don't know who to appropriately address this issue to.hopefully nhtsa.gov will take an human interest with regards to vehicle safety and demand that toyota recall these cars and replace this part at their cost. With so many complaints about this brake actuator problem, there has to be a series of defective parts that were installed in these camry and camry hybrid models. When questioned about a defective part, toyota just shrugs their shoulders. It is frustrating and it is now involving my family and especially my children at risk of death defying travel. I really appreciate any advice or help nhtsa can provide to make toyota admit guilt of a defective brake actuator. I will guess that it really will take a series of deaths or mutilating accidents to get toyota off the bench.i am truly concerned and not many people can afford a $4,000 repair.thank you for your time and consideration.
I was driving down the highway when i felt a noticeable difference in the steering and breaking of my car. At the same time a lot of the dashboard lights came on including: brake, abs, vsc warning, check engine, tpms. After i felt this change, it was very hard to brake. It took me longer to stop and i had to use more physical force to do so. This was extremely scary considering how fast i was going and the fact that i had my child in the car with me. I took my car straight to a mechanic who cleared the code.
Check vsc system displayed and abs, traction control, emergency brake and caution lights are on and the brakes are very slow to respond.
Brake actuator had gone out, this controlled the entire braking system. No accident was caused but the car is inoperable and a new actuator is quoted at $2600.
Have a 2008 toyota camry hybrid. 6 months ago i brought it in to right toyota for service due to an issue with my brakes.after $6200, $2587 of with was for a 'brake accuator' the car was 'fixed'. Two weeks ago my brakes acted up again with the same issue. The brakes catch or grab without warning, and sometimes i have to press the pedal to the floor boards to stop the car. I have almost had 2 incidents where an accident could have occurred.i feel unsafe in the vehicle an the dealer nor toyota usa has responded to my complaints.now the dealer is stated it is a different problem and not the accuator.my lite came on recently about the vsc needs to be checked.
Check vsc system error, traction control light, abs light and emergency "!" light illuminated when car was idle.brakes became "soft". Next day, light was off until after driving a few miles, again same lights came on and brakes became soft again at a stop light
When our car was in motion, we experienced very loud audible grunt along with very poor breaking. Extremely scary situation especially since it started suddenly, without warning while driving and the brakes did not work at all during the first incident.the warning lights did not come on and luckily we were not yet on the expressway. We made it home and had it towed to the repair shop the next day.we drove it around the parking lot with the mechanic and the brakes failed again. We had to have the abs brake system (abs pump/module assembly) replaced at a cost of $2,263. We contacted toyota who said they could not reimburse for the issue.we have read online that other issues have happened to consumers and it seems that anything that results in total brake failure should warranty a recall.please advise if you are able to consider this situation and if you need any further information.sincerely,[xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
Vsc and abs warning lights and buzzer came on upon just starting car. Front drivers side brake caliper locker up. Drivers side brake locked up. Dealer wants 2800 for repair. In searching the internet, it appears that this has happened to lots of other 07 -11 camry hybrid owners.this should be covered by warranty.how do i file a formal complaint with toyota???
While driving in cold weather the check vsc system light comes on and the power brakes cease to function. I have to press the brake pedal very hard in order to get the car to stop. Toyota claims that this is caused by a faulty accumulator and gives the error code c1391. I created a website to see if other people have experienced this problem and to my surprise i have quite a few comments posted to my guestbook. You can view the site at http://checkvscsystem.com. This part should not be defective in a vehicle with low mileage and is a major safety concern. I have had times where i am driving and the light comes on and the brakes cease to function properly and have almost rear ended a car. This issue needs to be addressed with toyota so that no one gets injured.
Warning buzzer, brake, check engine, no cruise control, hard brake pedal to stop. I paid to the dealer to diagnostic, and the abs actuator assembly with labor is almostus$1,700. Only something the sound of the buzzer and the lights turn off, and brake perfect.but must of the time, permanent noise and lights are on.to use the car is dangerous and noise no good for passengers.the problem start with vehicle in motion, in the city.
I applied brakes, all the warning lights came on and the car would not brake.i pressed the brake pedal as hard as i could an finally came to a stop.i got the car to walnut creek toyota, california.they charged $150 and said there was nothing wrong...bring it in if it happens again (they failed to notify me that there were several other instances reported)..5-12-14.same thing happened as i came down a freeway offramp.it took all my strengthto stop the car just inches from another car.walnut creek toyota said nothing wrong and their regional toyota technical team said the same...neither of them mentioned the numerous complains to the nhtsa. I could have been killed, or killed another driver.these cars should have been recalled and compensation to the owners...i wasn't going to drive , i was forced into "trading" it in for a not so great deal!!
"check vsc system" notice came on my dash. Vsc (vehicle stability/skid control). I have taken my car into the dealership approximately every 3 months and nothing has ever been detected in terms of this. The area where i live does get heavy snow so this is extremely dangerous to have happen.
I was driving on the freeway one afternoon when all the indicators on my dashboard turned on and stated "check vsc system". I made an appointment with toyota scheduled for august 2, 2015. After the indicators turned on, i was reversing out of a parking spot when i noticed an oncoming vehicle. I pressed the brakes but my car failed to stop, and i had to shift to park to prevent an accident. The toyota serviceman informed me the brake actuator was the problem. He further claimed that this was not covered under warranty since the car had been in an accident 3 years ago and wanted to charge me $1,500. How can an accident 3 years ago cause my brake actuator to suddenly fail last month? i am unable to drive my car for fear of an accident; despite the accident toyota should honor the lsc and fix the actuator instead of trying to charge me for a problem they caused in the first place.
I was driving my car when without warning the brakes began to give out as i tried to stop my car.i am fortunate that there were no pedestrians or other vehicles in front of me or i might have hit one.a strange chugging noise emanated from my car and the lights went on, on my dashboardto check the vsc system.the toyota dealership ran a diagnostic battery and said the abs accommodator was faulty and needed to be replaced.a quick search online showed me that many other individuals with camry hybrids are having this same issue with cars with low mileage.i feel fortunate that no one got hurt.i contacted toyota headquarters and let them know of the issue.
Unable to use brake with vsc problem.
The first time the "check vsc system" (attachment) came up was about the first week of jan 2019 when i was driving on a city street.since i was on the right hand land i was able to pull over to the side.after i turned off the engine and waited for 1 minute and turn the engine back on, the message "check vsc system" disappear from the dashboard.when i got home and searched for this error message many people says this could be due to a loose gas cap so i make sure it's tighten. Then about 2 weeks later on jan 17, 2019, the same issue happens again. This time i was in a parking lot and when i pressed on the brake pedal, the buzzer will chime before i even start the engine.when i start the engine then the "check vsc system"comes on and it doesn't go away.i tried to turn the engine on and off multiple times and it doesn't resolve the issue like last time.i also noticed when i step on the brake pedal, it provides virtually no break. It would take me a very long distance to bring the car to a stop and i am afraid to drive more than 25 mph.i took it to a mechanic for diagnostics and two codes came up for abs pump and abs motor.he tried to use his tool to turn on the abs pump it doesn't work.then we found out about the brake warranty(attachment) but i when i went to the a toyota dealer, the dealer said the warranty had expired on 3/14/2018 since the first date of use was 3/14/2008.i believe since the secondary warranty was for 150k miles and my car has only 121k miles on it, it should be covered.if i had drive 20k per mile per year, this issue would have appeared two years ago which was within the warranty period.
Started car and had immediate brake failure!, abs system failure. Brake system warning lights and beeping from dashboard. Car not drive-able.
Was driving near 10 miles per hour, city streets (all three times) . I went to brake, the check vsc lights and others went on and thebrakes failed. Steering was difficult, car seemed to shut down. Happened three times in the last two weeks.
I was driving down the road at 40mph and was coming upon a red stoplight. I started to brake and nothing happened. There were no brakes, i looked down and the message center said check vsc system. I was able to swerve into the turn lane to avoid hitting the cars that were stopped at the light and was able to coast to a stop. After leaving the car off for 5 minutes all was normal.
While driving my car on 40 miles/hour the brake light, abs, skid control, and maintenance light illuminated with a whistling sound too, also the dash board had check the vsc system warning. I was unable to stop the car due to braking system failure, so i pulled over to a close by gas station and stopped by hitting the curb.the car was taken to the dealership, and diagnosed as abs braking actuator systemmalfunction, and estimated repair cost is $2,200, it was out of the extended warranty by 4 months so i have to pay out of pocket for this particular manufacturer life threatening mistake that could take away my life if i couldn't stop the car.i contacted the toyota company 3 times they stated they are aware of the malfunction problem, but they have nothing to do with it, as it is not a recall yet, it's only under investigation.i know this happened to many cars of this model. And injuries occurred but toyota don't want to take full responsibility of their dangerous mistake.
The car's brakes do not brake smoothly at times.when the problem occurs at low speeds, the brakes vibrate causing uneven braking the is felt in a stop and go fashion.at high speeds, there's increased brake vibration making the whole car shake.
First incident: when in reverse, about 5 warning lights came on (abs light, caution light and red triangle and others) and braking required hard depressing. I took to toyota dealer; they reset the warning lights and said car was ok. When i was driving home from dealer, multiple warning lights came on again and it took full pressure to brake, while car also seemed difficult to control. I would classify it as catastrophic failure, and was fortunate to be driving slow in the city. I returned to dealer. They diagnosed as c1247 error and recommended replacing skid control computer for $1,800. When i complained that this should be covered under a hybrid warranty, regional toyota offered $500 "towards repair as goodwill assistance."
I have a 2008 tch with 53k miles and the vsc warning light, brake light and several others first appeared on a cold morning during a cross country trip from ca to nc.a complete loss of breaking at 40 mph is a scary thing!!! brought it to dealer. Cleared the code. Well, about a week later in raleigh the vsc warning light was on when we arrived and the dealer recorded code c1391, abnormal pressure inside the accumulator. The fix, a new abs accumulator- with parts labor and tax just under $2700- because the part is not under warranty- only up to 3/36000! seems like it should be since this is a common issue with tch's. Now i don't know what to do or who to believe!!! because i had no choice, i shelled out and had toyota of apex, nc replace the part. Man was i mad! toyota didn't step up and own this clearly defective part. Smartly,k i also purchased an extended warranty from a vendor. Well wouldn't you know about 14 months later my wife is driving with the kids and almost wrecked when the brakes went out, this time with no warning!diagnosis? c1931 again!!!! i couldn't believe. The same dealer toyota of apex, nc told me the part was now $3200. I had them pull the history. They seemed genuinely shocked. Even put me in a loaner for several days and promised toyota would take care of this one. Ha! shame on toyota again- they said sorry. Part out of 12 month warranty... Here's your bill for 3200. At this point, i knew it was time to get rid of this defective car before someone got seriously injured or even worse, killed. Two times toyota refused to accept any responsibility, i'm sure it will catch up to them eventually.
The contact owns a 2008 toyota camry hybrid. When the brake pedal was applied, the vehicle failed to respond and a chime sound was heard. Also, the abs, vehicle stability control, and maintenance required warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence and then towed to peterson toyota (9101 w fairview ave, boise, id 83704, (208) 963-8218). The dealer checked with the manufacturer and they both stated that the vehicle was excluded from receiving an extended warranty campaign for the brake and the statute expired on march 28, 2018. The dealer stated that the brake actuator needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vin and failure mileage were not available.
While driving in city traffic, a number of indicator lights within thedashboard instrument cluster illuminated including the "brake" indicator, the yellow brake system warning indicator, the abs indicator, and one other (master warning light?) .at the same time a message displayed in the status screen within the instrument cluster showed "check vsc system."i immediately tried to pull off the road and slow down, and had to apply significantly more pressure to the brake pedal then typical.i could not slow as quickly as i expected.to avoid running into the car in front of me i pressed extremely hard on the brake pedal and was finally able to stop.i parked the car and turned it off, then restarted it.the same indicator lights and message displayed.i was able to drive the car home very slowly, but continued to experience difficulty braking during that drive home.later that day when i restarted the car, the indicator lights and warning message did not display, and the brakes operated normally.i will contact the local dealership this week.
I was driving on the 405 freeway north from long beach to west los angeles, when the vsc system lights came on. I took the car to santa monica toyota, where i had originally purchased it, and was told that the brake actuator system was leaking and the repair cost was $3800, no one there informed me that this particular part was being investigated for possible defects. After the car was looked atsanta monica toyota, the brakes started clucking and grabbing. After much heated discussion, corporate toyota agreed to pay $1000 toward the repair which was done at marina del rey toyota. I believe that the system is defective. No system should fail in so many cars of the same model and year. Toyota should recall the system and compensate myself and other toyota owners.
The compliant is not the result of a direct issue, but upon visiting the dealer, was informed of a brake actuator replacement that needed to be done at over $1700 in parts alone - looking on the internet is appears as if toyota had issued an extended warranty on this but i was never notified.would have had it replaced earlier.need some help and options.
Original actuator had been replaced. Now, having more braking problems than before! dealership reset twice, problem is returning and dealership refuses to replace again, or reset.brakes will grab and/or make loud 'clunking' sounds. Intermittent.
My car was just repaired 6 months ago for this same issue at a cost of over $3,000!!!!today my husband and son were in the car when the brakes failed and the check vsc warning light came on again!!luckily they were not in an accident as a result of the failed brakes.
While cruising about 35 mph the following panel lights came on: brakes, abs, error message- vsc (vehicle stability control).a whirring sound emanated from the engine compartment which intensified when i depressed brake pedal.the brakes weakly responded to pedal pressure.i was able to drive slowly to a parking lot where i had it towed to the dealership.i note that the brake reservoir was full and detected no leaking fluids.i had no warning of this failure.the car has been serviced regularly by the dealership.
Applied brakes in a panic stop on i-95, pedal dropped and check vsc light came on. Pedal was hard to manage for several miles after 1st incident. Pedal feel would rise and drop feeling like the car would not stop. When arriving home and pulling in the driveway brake pedal would drop and car felt like it was not going to stop going into the garage. Once inside garage i could hear what sounded like a pump constantly running. This is the first time i have heard this noise for this long since i bought the car. Whenever i approach the car with the key or open a door, this noise is heard for about 20 seconds, sometimes repeatedly. The car is currently unsafe to drive and parked in our garage! not sure what to do...
I was on the highway and all of the warning lights came on "check vsc system" was displayed on the dashboard. I had to push very hard on the breaks to make the car stop and luckily i did not crash into anyone. It's happened in the middle of driving in the neighborhood, on the freeway, even when i was parked in the garage! i turned the engine on and before i put it in drive or reverse, all the warning lights would display and the breaks would fail. Now the new problem is every time i step on the breaks, my car 'barks' or 'chirps' repeatedly at me. I can push lightly and get less of a bark but for the most part, it takes a great deal of effort to stop the vehicle. My father is a mechanic and he's hooked up the computer to the car but since the 'check vsc system" is not displayed when it's hooked up, he can't tell what the problem is. In an unrelated complaint, when the weather gets hot, around 80 degrees, the stereo system goes blank and spits out all of my cds and will not turn on. Then it will have lines across the screen and display "scan" on the upper right hand corner. It will not turn off or on unless i use the controls on the steering wheel. After it cools, it will work again.
I purchased a 2008 toyota camry hybrid with 85,000 miles in july 2nd of 2014. Since i got this car from dealer in a auction first i went closes toyota service center to change the oil and do the 85000 mile service so i can keep the car protected. And they tall me perform the maintain on it but they is waning light for abs and another waning check vsc system they assume may be fault in computer system witch repair cost around $3000 and the advice me to return the cart dealer. I spend all my money in the buying the car so can't spend any more money. Then i contact the dealer but to return the car but they don't accept the car back. Since i didn't have any choice i start driving the car back to home. Suddenly nonstop buzzer sound came up along with the "check vsc system" /brake, hazard, warning, and abs lights its middle of the freeway and i noticed that the brakes did not function properly. I try to push the brake pedal; it was just like a rock not moving a bit i thought i gone die. Luckily i able bring it to safe place. Now car is sitting in my home don't know what to expect next. I research the problem in the internet, notice so many-many 07- 08 toyota camry hybrid customers have the experience the same problem. Since many 07- 08 toyota camry hybrid customers experience this problem so i hope toyota recall the abs accumulator and fix before anybody get die or be critically injured.thank you
After my car had been parked outside in the cold (december in minneapolis) for the day, i noticed that, at very slow speeds (i.e. Crawling), the brakes on my car took longer than normal to bring the car to a halt. Despite moving very slowly, when i pressed hard on the brake, the car still continued moving for several feet before i felt the brakes engage.i was in a parking lot, so i tried doing this several times, each with the same result.i drove home on the highway and could not determine whether the problem persisted, but i have not noticed the same issue since.
I have always noticed a delayed braking feeling in my 2008 toyota camry hybrid. Also, when traveling at a higher rate of speed i notice the car shaking when just applying the brakes to even gradually slow down. This morning i rearended someone because of what i feel is the delayed braking. Abs did not kick in and no airbag deployed. I was traveling under 25mph and was on a decline. I should not have had to apply the brakes as hard as i felt i was pressing but was so shocked when the car would not stop.
I do not know if this is a complaint and write as i see the toyota prius brake investigation.i have a camry hybrid and had a brake problem last spring.on saturday 4-25-09, myvsc/abs/warning light came on while i was near the baierl cadillac dealership. As i had leased from baierl toyota, i pulled in the baierl cadillac service as the brakes felt wrong and took two feet. The car did stop.they called baierl toyota who said to drive up unless flashing warning lights. The lights were steady so i drove slowly without any accident fromwexford pa to mars pa to the dealership.i called monday (ordered part), tues (waiting for part for brakes) and wed(part in morning -need computer to calibrate). The car was returned and the brakes seem fine with no further vsc/abs lights.i do not have the parts.i assume that baierl toyota, mars, pa 16046 has the records and could tell you more.i did not pay more attention as it was taken care of by the dealership under warranty.my friend suggested that i notify you in the event that the hybrid brakes on the camry should also be checked to help someone else.
The contact owns a 2008 toyota camry hybrid. The contact stated that when she depressed the brake pedal, she felt a jolting jerk and the pedal went down to the floor when she applied it lightly. She took the vehicle to the dealership and the dealer recalibrated the stroke sensor. About 8-9 months later, the issue occurred again so she took the vehicle back to the dealership, and the stroke sensor was replaced. She stated that she noticed no problems since the latest repair. She had not called the manufacturer to-date. The current mileage was approximately 24,000. The failure mileage was approximately 20,000.
The contact owns a 2008 toyota camry hybrid. The contact stated that while driving approximately 20 mph, the vsc warning light illuminated continuously as the brake pedal abnormally traveled to the floorboard when engaged. The failure caused an increase in stopping distance when the contact was applying the brakes. The failure was recurring. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer however, they were unable to duplicate the problem. The manufacturer was notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 155,000.updated 04/22/14*lj
2008 toyota camry hybrid. Consumer states vehicle began lurching, bucking and all warning lights came on while driving. *tgwthe dealer informed the consumer, the problem was due to a computer failure, which was responsible for the functionality of the abs.the dealer replaced the ski control electronic control unit.
Clicking/knocking noise that can be felt through the steering wheel.may be the same intermediate steering shaft problem has plagued other toyota models.symptoms are the same.this is a safety issue that should be fixed immediately by toyota through a recall.
I have had to replace the tires approx every 20,000 miles.type and make of tire do not seem to make a difference.i have rotated and aligned it every 5k miles.tires get worn on the inside very quickly, no adjustment by the alignment shops seem to make any difference.
Thumbing sound when turning steering wheel.
June, 2009 my 2008 camry hybrid veered across two lanes of traffic even though i was holding the steering wheel and did not steer the vehicle in that direction.also, on that same trip, when engaging cruise control, my 2008 camry started to accelerate rapidly, i disengaged cruise control immediately, and pushed then released the gas pedal and it corrected.
The contact owns a 2008 toyota camry hybrid. While driving approximately 40 mph, there was a loss of power steering as the triangle warning symbol illuminated. The vehicle was maneuvered to the side of the road where the engine was turned off. Upon restarting, the vehicle resumed normally. The failure recurred within ten days. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 37,000. The vin was unavailable.
Steering column makes knocking/clicking noise when turning.sounds like it's coming from intermediate shaft.
There is a clicking noise coming from the steering wheel when i turn left or right and it feels loose. Certified mechanic states it is noisy and there is play inside. Rack and pinion needs replaced for $2400.
The entire dashboard of the car is melting. It is very sticky and soft.it cannot be touched. It appears wet and slick and is making a glare appear when you look out of the front window.
I was driving the vehicle and had the sun glare of the dashboard which has completely melted, i was unable to see the car in front of me which came to a complete stop.given the glare of the dashboard which has melted completely due to intense sun from florida i was involved in a car accident since i cannot see car in front of me due to the large glare.my defect in the car is that the dashboard is melting and creating a very intense glare which is preventing me from being able to see and unfortunately was involved in a car accident.
The dashboard of this car became very soft and began melting in areas.it was reported to maroone toyota service department and was advised to contact toyota. They did not provide assistance.the problem continues to get worse and the dashboard is deteriorating.
The dashboard is completely sticky and ruined.nothing cleans it or takes the stickiness away.it causes a reflection on the windshield and interferes with my vision.this is a safety issue that toyota should recall and replace! it's very dangerous!
The vehicle dashboard has been melting on hot days resulting in a shiny, mirror like surface that reflects sunlight and glares the windshield reducing visibility. The melted dashboard surface is very sticky and could affect the airbag functionality as the airbag cover could fuse with the surrounding melted dashboard surface. I also wonder if the dashboard is releasing any toxic substances as it melts.
When it rains, my toyota camry hybrid 2008 gets flooded inside.in fact, i think this started happening about a year ago but it became worst recently when southern california had many big storms about 2 months ago.that was when i could not tolerate the bad smell inside my car any more.i examined where the bad sell was coming from.i removed all my own plastic floor mats.then i removed all the manufactured floor mats.i found out inside the car had about half an inch of water everywhere except the trunk.some spots get almost an inch of water like underneath the driver's and passenger's seats.i am a computer programmer and i realized that there are more and more electronic components in modern cars.although my soaking car did not cause me or anybody any harm, i felt very worried that the water might damage some electronic/wires components and lead to some dangerous accidents.with that worries in my mind, i brought my car to a toyota dealer for repair.they told me that they needed to "add drain hose clamps to sunroof drain hoses" to fix the water coming down through pillars.without any hesitation, i agreed to pay for the service to fix the problem.i did some searches on the internet and found out that quite a number of people who also have this problem.i think that the manufacture can prevent this from happening by secure the sunroof drain hoses properly and firmly when they make the car.if they can do that, it might help a lot of people and prevent some possible accidents.
The dash is has become soft and shiny, others online have had similar issues "melting camry dash" or "sticky camry dash".the safety issue is that the dash is so shiny now (was not originally) it reflects light back onto the windshield making it difficult to see out.
2008 camry hybrid melting dash board.
My car was parked outdoors in the rain. The inside of the car windows were dripping with moisture. When i decided to go to for a drive, i reached behind my seat to the rear floor for my paper towel roll and cloth towels to wipe off the windows and they were soaked with water. I took the car to the dealer ship to fix the problem. The four sunroof drains had no hose clamps on them the right rear hose had come loose causing a flood in my rear seat area. I had to have all carpets replaced and hose clamps added to prevent any further damage. It cost $2467.57 to repair the damage because toyota did not require hose clamps on the 4 drain hoses from the sunroof. I asked toyota if they were going to notify other toyota owners of the potential problem and they indicated an answer of, no! i think they should be forced to let other toyota owners of the potential problem. I have all of the communications with toyota if you want copies.this is one of the reasons insurance rates are so high. My insurance paid for all except $60.52 of the total cost of repairs. I have aaa insurance. Please respond!!!
The dashboard is completely sticky and ruined. Nothing cleans it or takes the stickiness away. It causes a reflection on the windshield and interferes with my vision. This is a safety issue that toyota should recall and replace! it's very dangerous!
The dash has begun melting in the sun and has become sticky and at times it melts and runs downwards. Nothing will clean it andeverything sticks to it and with the melting it has a shiny gloss that at times with the sun coming in has a terrible glare.i am afraid if this continues the air bag on the passenger side could deploy and cause an accident.
The dashboard gets extremely soft and sticky when the interior of the car gets hot (>90 degrees) and causes a bad glare on the windshield that makes it difficult to see when driving.
The dashboard on my toyota camry appears to be slowly melting leaving behind a sticky residue and a shine on 90% of the flat surface. The real hazard is that the shine on the dashboard reflects on the windshield making it very difficult to drive especially in daylight.the stickiness of-course is a nuisance. I have noticed that the stickiness is less in the morning but increases as the sun comes out.i have taken the car to the dealer but they refused to look at it since it is not a part that is broken.they suggested that i have the interior detailed which i don't want to do in the fear the surface on the dashboard will come off!
Dash headboard is very sticky and when driving in sunny conditions there is a really bad glare.
My dashboard has become extremely shinny and the glare is impeding on my visibility in the forward area. I hit a garbage can on a sunny day. Thank god it wasn't a person. This seems to be a defect in the manufacturing of the dashboard material used by toyota.
The contact called on behalf of his mom who owns a 2008 toyota camry hybrid. The contact stated that the dashboard was melting and sticky. The contact mentioned that the failure caused a glare in the driver's face, which made it difficult to drive. Toyota walnut creek (2100 n broadway, walnut creek, ca 94596, (925) 357-3700) was contacted and they stated that everyone was notified of the extended warranty for the failure. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or independent mechanic for diagnostic testing or repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that the warranty expired last year. No further assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 95,000.
Dashboard melts in the sun creating a sticky shiny surface that reflects onto the windshield and inhibits visibility. I cannot see out of the car during the day anymore due to the reflection.
I'm having a glare on my windshield (when i'm driving and particularly in sunny conditions) from my dashboard that has melted. It's become very shiny and makes it difficult to see when driving. I have tried cleaning it but because of the substance it is not possible to clean it.
The trunk latch release button overing has become sticky and gooey making the lock release button inoperable.
Flat tire being fixed - found all four struts leaking; car maintained by dealer.
I took my vehicle into the shop to have an alignment done on the vehicle. Turns out all 4 struts are leaking. I have spoken to several mechanics the like of goodyear, american tire company, and even the toyota dealer and they told me themselves that this is a common problem. Speaking to several different camry owners, 50 percent of them have replaced the struts as well. This should be a recall and i just don't think owners are aware of the sizeable problem regarding the struts. If mechanics themselves are telling me this is a regular problem, why isn't toyota.
I have had to replace the tires approx every 20,000 miles.type and make of tire do not seem to make a difference.i have rotated and aligned it every 5k miles.tires get worn on the inside very quickly, no adjustment by the alignment shops seem to make any difference.
Struts leaked at 50k. Toyota refused and said it was normal for struts to leak, dealership treated me rudely though i was informed by two mechanics to have them fix the issue. Called customer care and requested they step in, all 4 struts are broken, they offered to fix two. I purchased the top of the line extended care warranty, still no resolve. The car was in the toyota dealer 12 days before the warranty expired with no mention of this, a load of other issues none fixed. Two weeks after warranty expired it needs new front struts.i purchased 4 new tires last year and they cant be rotated due to wear from bad struts. I need another set of tires to stop the shaking though was informed only struts will save me from buying another set in 12 months. Help recall this known issue. I will happily release all toyota records ....
Went to have my tires rotated and found that all 4 of the struts on the car are leaking. Since this car is only 4 years old and 56k in miles these struts should not be leaking. This is a manufacture defect but toyota does not replace/repair these except at fullcost.
Ltr fwd fm (md) owner of a 2008 toyota camry hybrid concerned that her vehicle is not included in the toyota voluntary recall.*tgwthe consumer stated since toyota does not know the cause of the sudden acceleration, she believed that all of the potentially affected vehicles with electronic systems that control acceleration and braking should be recalled.
The dashboard pad has deteriorated within the last two years.it is gooey.when i have brought the vehicle in for service at the local dealership and mentioned it, it was not addressed.i called toyota headquarters twice and they said that there was a notification but it has expired.so, they will not honor a request to replace the pad.i never received the notifications they allege they sent.the pad is really dangerous since it reflects off the windshield and is blinding when driving on the highway or city streets.the part itself costs over $1,000; i do not know what labor and tax costs are.i am the original owner of this car and have maintained it through tofficial oyota service.
Interior head lining is coming down. It started on the back windshield. It was hanging down so i see it when i use my rear view mirror. Now it is coming off on the driver side front windshield. Also front driver visor. Also sticky dashboard.
Check vsc system error, traction control light, abs light and emergency "!" light illuminated when car was idle.brakes became "soft". Next day, light was off until after driving a few miles, again same lights came on and brakes became soft again at a stop light
Sticky dashboard
When i purchased the car in 2015. I was informed that a recall was going to take place on the dash board. This was due to the fact that sun was making a sticky glaze to form. This is hazardous because it often creates a blinding glare during the day while driving and even while parked.

Dashboard melts in the sun creating a sticky shiny surface that reflects onto the windshield and inhibits visibility. I cannot see out of the car during the day anymore due to the reflection.
I have a foul odor from my a/c unit caused by mold/mildew. Toyota did a foam/vent treatment, but the problem is still there. They will not repair the issue.
Dashboard shiny and sticky causing reflection from sun to impair vision.toyota says recall issued prior to experiencing problem "expired" january 2018 and is no longer applicable for previous recall we received when issued.toyota wants $2700 for the dashboard not including labor.
Sticky and shiny dashboard. The reflection of the shining dashboard is causing a lot of trouble while driving.cannot get a clear view of the road in the front when the dashboard is reflected on the windshield.
My car has the sticky dash issue that many toyotas have.i first noticed a 'plastic / rubber' smell in the car a month after i bought it; however, the toyota dealership said that it was the 'new car smell'.later i was told it was an ongoing issue with my cabin inlet filter.finally the dash started becoming soft and gooey.i later found out that my car was part of a recall and toyota agreed to replace the dash - 9 years later.i have been breathing the toxic fumes from the melting dash for 9 years, 150k plus miles.
My dashboard has been melting for the last 2 month and now is a sticky and has an awful glare that is making driving very difficult for me.the dashboard is melting under the sun.
Was driving near 10 miles per hour, city streets (all three times) . I went to brake, the check vsc lights and others went on and thebrakes failed. Steering was difficult, car seemed to shut down. Happened three times in the last two weeks.
The contact leased a 2008 toyota camry on january 5, 2008. The vehicle would lunge forward while the gear shift selector was in the reverse position. The manufacturer stated that there would be a recall and they could not fix the vehicle until april 2010 when the recall parts were available. She was concerned with her safety in driving the vehicle until then. The failure and current mileages were under 33,000.updated 01/1410 updated 01/20/10.
Brake warning light came on, then warning to check vsc system, 2 other warning lights and abs light came on, braking became difficult with resistance when applying brake, pulsing and lurching forward when foot on brake stopped at stoplight.this is happening intermittently.
Drove in to a park parking lot, pulled in to a parking space when accelerator pedal stuck, brakes went out, ran in to a tree about five or six feet away.if there would not have been the tree there i could have run in to the soccer group a few hundred feet away and injured or killed them and me.
Check vsc system displayed and abs, traction control, emergency brake and caution lights are on and the brakes are very slow to respond.
My car was just repaired 6 months ago for this same issue at a cost of over $3,000!!!!today my husband and son were in the car when the brakes failed and the check vsc warning light came on again!!luckily they were not in an accident as a result of the failed brakes.
Approximate incident date is entirely inaccurate. I do not remember when this happened, but probably more than a year ago either in a 2006 camry or a 2008 camry hybrid. I believe this to be related to nhtsa campaign id 09v388000. I am concerned because "toyota has determined that this defect does not exist in vehicles in which the driver side floor mat is compatible with the vehicle and is properly secured" and believe that my complaint should be investigated concurrently with this one.1.my compatible and properly secured carpeted driver's side floor mat slipped off the retaining hooks (clips) and bunched up under the pedals. There are only two hooks, which are removable, and they spin around and around, allowing the mat to slip off. I believe that a simple fix of installing permanent hooks that do not spin, or four hooks, would solve this potentially fatal issue.2. As i was driving, i found myself unable to depress the brake pedal. I discovered that my floor mat had lodged under the brake pedal, making it so that could not press it down. Fortunately i was able to dislodge the mat and avoid a collision. This incident only happened once, but the mats do come off the hooks frequently, therefore i must constantly make sure that my mat is secure and that the hooks are facing the correct way so the mat cannot slip off them.3. The failure was not reported and no action has been taken.
08" camry hybrid - when set on cruise control, the car inadvertently accelerates pass the "set" speed point when going up or down hill, by more than 20 mph before i disengaged the cruise control.
The contact owns a 2008 toyota camry hv. The mat which is a protective mat over the standard vehicle mat caused the accelerator pedal to get stuck under the mat. On several occasions he had to stop the vehicle and disconnect the mat from the accelerator pedal. The failure mileage was 10,000.
2008 toyota camry hybrid. Consumer states problem with brake response *tgwthe consumer experienced sudden acceleration while attempting to park, which ultimately caused significant damage to two vehicles.the consumer tried repeatedly to apply the brakes to stop the vehicle, but to no avail.the consumer also hit a pedestrian. (daughter wrote in on behalf of her 83 year mother who was driving the vehicle). The consumers daughter there was no floor mat present in the vehicle, so that was not the issue. Updated 06/09/10.
My car accelerated for about 2 seconds. I have a camry hybrid which was not recalled but fixed anyway.
The contact owns a 2008 toyota camry hybrid. The contact stated as he was making a right turn about 30 mph the vehicle suddenly accelerated out of control cross the median strip and flipped over. The driver and the passenger sustained extensive injuries to their bodies.the vehicle was destroyed. A police report was available if needed. The manufacturer was contacted and a complaint was filed. The manufacturer denied the claim and stated the crashwas the contact's fault. The insurance company was contacted who towed the vehicle. The failure mileage was 5,000.
I was driving on a straight-line highway at 55mph in dry conditions when suddenly "check vsc system" warning indicator displayed. Brake light, brake icon and abs icons also illuminated. About 10 minutes later, system returned to normal while still driving straight down the road.
Since many 07- 08 toyota camry hybrid customers experience this problem so i hope toyota recall the abs accumulator and fix before anybody get die or be critically injured.thank you
About to leave from a parking lot at night, turned vehicle on.released emergency brake.
My wife and i were driving our 2008 toyota camry hybrid on cary parkway in cary, nc. I was at the wheel and coasting with no foot on the gas or brake and noticed the engine accelerating slightly.it was not a scary situation because the road was open in front of me and the speed was not fast but i could tell the engine was not coasting and slowing down as expected and i told my wife.i tapped the gas pedal and then the car started to coast and slow as expected.it has never happened again and i know if i reported it to my dealer they would tell me that they could not find anything wrong so i haven't bothered.it felt like the throttle was mechanically stuck. I should mention that this car had a defective weld in the right front and when the car was new and started creaking, the dealer had it taken to a body shop and a bad weld under the right front fender was repaired.
The contact owns a 2008 toyota camry hybrid.the contact stated while driving approximately 5 mph, the vehicle accelerated forward causing the vehicle to crash into the wall in his garage. The vehicle did not stall. The failure occurred twice within one week.the vehicle was not taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing.the vehicle was not repaired.the manufacturer was notified of the failure and advised to take vehicle to the dealer.the approximate failure mileage was 28,000.
Thank you!
While driving, the "check vsc system" warning came on, an immediate power reduction occurred and some brake pressure loss.dealership said the skid control ecu ($1800) and abs actuator ($2900) were both bad.after replacing both, warning lights are still on.problem not resolved yet.

2008 toyota camry hybrid included in the floor mat recall.the consumer stated when he contacted the dealer to make an appointment to have the recall taken care of, he was informed that toyota was only providing sufficient parts to the dealer to perform 10 vehicles per day. As a result, the consumers appointment was in 13 days.
My vehicle, 2008 camry's sun visors on both driver and passenger side are drooping or loose and can not stay up. The driver's side visor blocks the sight to drive safely or effectively.
2008 toyota camry hybrid, 58,000 miles. Faulty driver's side sun visor. Entered vehicle in the morning, noticed that sun visor was hanging down approximately 2 inches from ceiling "closed position". Drove to work with no noticeable change. Approximately nine hours later, reentered vehicle and saw that sunvisor was now hanging straight down. Attempted to push visor to closed position to no avail. Attempted to position sunvisor so that it was not blocking my vision but because it was hanging without any noticeable friction retention (flapping loosely), i ended up having to hold it out of the way with one hand while driving with the other. Upon returning home, i utilized a piece of twine to hold it out of my sight-line. I contacted toyota this morning and was told that they had not received enough complaints to warrant any action. Upon doing an online search, there appears to be a problem with both the driver's and passenger's sunvisors in 2007 and 2008 camrys, based on the number of complaints that i found in a very short time. This is a safety issue in that the sunvisor blocks the driver's vision unless held out of the way while driving.
The driver side sun visor on my toyota camry hybrid broke loose and it's just hanging there. I took it to the dealership to have it replaced and they said it would cost $120.00 to get it replaced. I went online and found other people had the same issue and who said that this was a manufactured defect. I would like to get my visor replaced at no cost to me as i see this as a safety issue.
I have a 2008 toyota camry hybrid. The driver's side sun visor broke on my wife while she was driving creating a very dangerous situation. Fortunately she was able to tie the sun visor up as not to obstruct her view. I plan on going to the dealership tomorrow to address this issue. The car is at 60,000 miles.
I recently purchased a 2008 toyota camry hybrid and found that the sun visor was rotated downward and would not go back to its original position. I contacted the toyota dealership in irvine, ca and was told that the sun visor assembly and sun visor bracket have an extended warranty on certain 2007-2011 models and that my model was on the list. However, when i came to pick up the car i was told that it was not covered because the car vin shows that the car was made in japan and that the extended warranty is only applicable to cars from the united states. The sun visor not rotating back to its right position is a safety hazard as i cannot fully see ahead while driving and do not have a clear view. If there is already a recall on this specific part for these specific cars and the product is made by toyota it should be covered no matter where the car was made. The original owner of the car purchased the vehicle at a toyota dealership in san juan capistrano, california, not in japan.
Broken driver side sun visor.
The sun visor on both sides have failed.the metal bracket inside the visor that provides friction to hold the visor up when not needed is held in place inside a glued plastic framework.the framework eventually suffers from fatigue and separates, causing the visor to drop down and block the driver's vision.once it fails it will not stay up and is constantly causing a visual distraction for the driver. The same problem has been happening on several of the toyota models for the last ten years. It has happened onmy car twice, once at 43,000 miles and again at 57,000 miles.
The sun visor was used weekly to block the sun and use the mirror.the failure recently occurred and is not resolved.i did go to the dealer, who would repair for about $140, that was declined.at this point, velcro was used to stabilize the visor for vehicle use.
The contact owns a 2008 toyota camry hybrid.the contact noticed that the driver side sun visor would not remain in an upright position, obstructing her view of the road.the contact did not inform the dealer or manufacturer nor was the vehicle diagnosed or repaired.the approximate failure mileage was 36,000. Updated 06/16/11*ljthe visor was replaced as a goodwill gesture. Updated 07/08/11.
My drivers side sun visor broke about six months ago. I went to the toyota dealer and they told me it was not under warranty and i would have to purchase it. It was about $160 to get the part and installed. I bought it on ebay for under $100 and installed it myself. It wasn't difficult and took under 5 minutes to do. Now, the passenger side broke in the same spot the other visor did. How can this happen? i had my last car for 10 years and the visors never broke and my husband has a toyota from 2007 and it hasn't broken. This is defective equipment.
Going through our neighborhood, the driver side sun visor fell down and blocked my vision. I contacted the dealership, they told me that the sun visor malfunction was common and it would cost $200 to fix it. This car is very well maintained and i think that this is a major defect that could cause major accidents. I was fortunate and was able to stop , but others may not be so lucky. Please look into this issue.
I put my sunvisor down to block the late afternoon sun. After i put it back up, it dropped in front of my vision causing a dangerous condition. The car is a 2008 toyota camry, purchased new with 54,000 miles on it. I googled my issue and saw dozens of others with the exact same defect.
There is a growing trend on the internet of 2008/2009 camrys with faulty sun visors.they fail without warning, and block the driver's ability to see.this happens on both frequently used, and infrequently used visors.our passenger side visor failed first, just outside the bumper to bumper warranty.this visor was hardly ever used as my wife drives the car, and rarely has front seat passengers.extended warranty refused to cover it (it's considered trim).6 months later, the driver's side failed.now, my passenger side visor has failed again (march 2012).both original replacements were new, from the dealer.the parts guy at one of the local dealerships told me they see quite a few camrys with broken or missing visors.see this link for other people with this issue.this is only one example of many websites were people complain about the failures.http://www.topix.com/forum/autos/toyota-camry/tckuncmcdb228b3b3/p4.
The driver side sun visor of my 2008 toyota camry hybrid fell down and blocked my view suddenly this afternoon while i was driving on i-70. The mechanics inside the visor is broken and there was no way to move it back to the position that did not blocking my view. It is extremely dangerous! toyota should issue another recall for their lousy quality!!
I drive a 2008 toyota camry hybrid - bought the car based on toyota's reputation of quality. Recently, i had a problem i had not expected to see. The passenger side sun visor broke - the internal mechanism does not function properly and rather than have it dangle all the time (since it wont stand up) i opted to simply remove it. I am frustrated that a relatively simple mechanism turned out to be so unreliable and problematic.
I found the passenger side sun visor is broken caused by nothing. The visor does not stay in place. Instead it is dangling, flopping around to affect visibility while driving. It looks like the visor part is open so the hinge can not work as designed. I am not sure it is related to texas hot summer but certainly this is a quality issue that toyota should recall or fix the problem. I am reporting this to here since i believe it affects safety on the road.
My dashboard has been melting for the last 2 month and now is a sticky and has an awful glare that is making driving very difficult for me.the dashboard is melting under the sun.
This vehicle was subject to a customer satisfaction program because driver-side sun visors would stop staying up and drop down without warning. We had our highlander visor replaced under this late 2012 program. It was an extreme safety hazard. Now the camry which is our cream puff has the problem and toyota said the csp has expired. They treated it as a cosmetic annoyance but it's a huge safety issue for drivers 6' tall or more. This happens in many situations but is most dangerous on the highway. Note there are 70 others griping about this on facebook. Www.facebook.com/toyota/posts/10151608872184201
Dashboard melts in the sun creating a sticky shiny surface that reflects onto the windshield and inhibits visibility. I cannot see out of the car during the day anymore due to the reflection.
The dashboard is completely sticky and ruined.nothing cleans it or takes the stickiness away.it causes a reflection on the windshield and interferes with my vision.this is a safety issue that toyota should recall and replace! it's very dangerous!
I had several incidents for my camry hybrid in the past years which are related to safety1) on 11/28/10, while driving in rainy situation on local street at low speed, the driver side wiper stopped working causing bad visibility. I pull over to street side and rain stopped after a while.i drove the car to a nearby toyota dealer.diagnosis is "wiper arm slipped splines"2) on 4/16/10, while driving on street at low speed (30 mph) heavy smoke came out of driver side window switch. After i pulled over and turned off the engine, the smoke stopped. Car was towed to a nearby toyota dealer and diagnostic was switch locked on "on" position. I believe this is one of the toyota "recall" case.3) about 11/2013, while driving on freeway the tire air pressure light went on. I drove back to toyota dealer and was told it was because of cold weather. No fix was performed.however, the light went on / off since then and after a month stayed on all the time. Brought the car to dealer again and they found a faulty sensor for tire air pressure.luckily all incidents did not involve crash / injury.however, i am very disappointed / concerned on my car's safety / reliability.if you need further information,i can be reached at [xxx][xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
Toyota had a recall 'fix' for the visor on drivers side braking and falling down but they only fixed the left drivers and not the right psgrs side which they should have replaced both at the time.now my right side is broken and inhibiting my ability to view any traffic on the right side due to it's hanging down and won't go up at all.
The dashboard gets extremely soft and sticky when the interior of the car gets hot (>90 degrees) and causes a bad glare on the windshield that makes it difficult to see when driving.
The contact owns a 2008 toyota camry hybrid. The contact stated that the rear window suddenly shattered. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the failure could not be diagnosed. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was contacted about the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 79,000.updated 12/24/13
