Passenger and two rear doors will not unlock from key fob nor master lock button. These doors must be unlocked from inside.
Occasionally, the vehicle will not lock when i use the fob or use the drivers manual locking switch on the door.this is happening when i exit the vehicle.i hit the fob lock button and the car beeps once, but the front drivers door does not lock, and the door lock does not move to a locking position, it stays in the unlocked position.when i hit the lock button on the fob, the car beeps 8 times and still does not lock.in order to lock the car, i have to enter the front passenger door and manually lock the front drivers door.the problem occurs about once per week.it started about a year ago.

On thursdayat toyota to have it checked out.hopefully they can find the cause.i have read online that it could be a fuse, bad relay or wiring issue.we shall see what they say.

I brought my vehicle into a toyota garage on 4/13/15 for the safety recall on the rear sub-roofer. At that time, no replacement parts. Subsequently, i had the sub-roofer disconnected. I just called 7/9/15, almost 3 months later and still no replacement parts. Lousy customer service on the part of toyota motor sales.
The passenger and rear door locks do not open with the remote key nor with the door-lock switch on the driver's door. The passengers could not enter the car. Their door had to be unlocked manually from inside the vehicle. This is a safety issue if the passenger doors need to be opened quickly from the outside. The problem disappeared after about one week. The problem started again late last month. The toyota dealer diagnosed the problem as an open circuit in the junction block and replaced the block. They stated that the full cost of the repair was over $1000, but only charged me $120.

The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign id number: 15v047000 (electrical system) and stated that the part needed was not available within a reasonable timeframe to schedule the recall repair. The technician disconnected the subwoofer as a temporary remedy. The dealer did not give a specific date for when the part would become available. The manufacturer was contacted and could not provide an estimated date for when the vehicle would receive the recall repair. The contact was not experiencing a failure.
The passenger and rear door locks do not open with the remote key nor with the door-lock switch on the driver's door.the passengers could not enter the car.their door had to be unlocked manually from inside the vehicle.this is a serious personal safety issue if you have an emergency and need quick entry for any reason...storm, fire, explosion, personal attack.the toyota dealer could not find a cause.
The door lock actuator on the passenger side is not workingthis part is terribly expensive to replace. A part like this should last a lot longer than it does and should not be causing one to take out a loan to get it fixed!
Passenger and two rear doors will not unlock from key fob nor master lock button.these doors must be unlocked from inside.i can disconnect the passenger switch and they will work for a short period then reoccur.the dirver's door is unaffected.i had it diagnosed by local dealer and they said was three actuators bad simultaneously.all actuators do not fail at once and for all..there is a single component used by these doors that is failing, and working intermittently
The contact owns a 2011 toyota avalon. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 15v047000 (electrical system); however, the dealer refused to perform the remedy for free. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The scott williams dealer was contacted and confirmed that the parts were not available for the recall remedy. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and was not able to confirm when the parts were to become available. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.
Power door lock issue. The passenger and rear door locks do not open with the remote key nor with the door-lock switch on the driver's door. The doors had to be unlocked manually from inside the vehicle. All the doors lock when the car is put in drive. Only the driver's door unlocks when the car is put in park. The dealer is replacing the module that controls the power door locks at a cost over $1,000. There is also an issue with not being able to open the trunk with the remote key or the button in the dash. The dealer stated the same module controls the trunk and the door locks. A case has been opened with toyota.
Purchased certified avalon 01/03/2015. November 24, 2015 front passenger and both rear door locks cease working. They cannot be opened with the fob nor the door lock switch on the drivers side door. Vehicle is taken to dealership, lithia toyota of odessa,on november 30, 2015. Explain problem to service advisor and he replies that he has never seen this problem. They reprogram system and it works for three days. Car is taken back to shop on december 5, 2015 for issue again. They finally call around 4 that afternoonsaying car is ready. We meet service manager, advisor and tech that performed the work to verify that everything was working fine. Never given explanation as to what was done. June25, 2016 problem arises again with the same three doors. Back in the shop, finally i am told that the power door lock actuators have failed and the reason given is the use of "clip on air fresheners which i and the advisor have a hard time believing. Apparently somehow the vapors from these air freshenerssupposedly permeate into the door and coat the actuators with a film of silicone thereby making them none functional. No explanation from toyota as to why this does not affect the drivers door. Apparently after research this is happening to some newer models. Not covered by warranty unless new or you have purchased extended comprehensive warranty. Safety is definitely an issue if you have an emergency and need quick access only driver will have the ability to access vehicle. Apparently this has been an issue with this particular model year avalon. On 04/23/13 this exact same issue was submitted to nhtsa id number 10509389, by another consumer. At that time dealer had no answer for problem. Now we are bring told it's due to air fresheners.were is the public service announcement from toyota if air fresheners cause this costly repair.possible defect?

February 25, 2014, i arrived for my 2 p.m. Doctor's appt and drove very slowly into a parking space.i was constantly braking because the toyota avalon sport 2011 has lots of low trim in the front of the car and i did not want to scratch the car.i kept my foot on the brake, stopped the car, then opened the door to check the white line to see if i was in my parking space.then, the motor began accelerating very rapidly. Before i could turn the engine off, the car lunged forward and i felt like i was airborne.within seconds, the car hit the very tall heavy metal and glass doors of the doctor's office and stopped.the car was covered with glass.the metal doors of the office were damaged.please note, the airbags did not deploy.the entire front of the car: grill, headlights, fenders and hood were damaged. Thankfully no one was injured.

Headlights flickering constantly and at times one or both will go completely off. Will have to manually turn off and then turn on again. Both will shine steady for about 2 minutes and then began to flicker again. This happens when parked or when in motion. This only applies to when the lights are on low beam. (this has been happening for a few months).
I have checked my odometer reading and found it to be approximately 3% under actual.according to toyota, the odometer may vary from eight to 10 percent, which is within department of transportation (dot) tolerances.they also state that if the odometer is reading low then the speedometer will also be reading low at or about the same percentage.i have driven many other cars and have a habit of checking both my odometer and speedometer readings for accuracy.this is the first car that i ever owned where the readings are this inaccurate.is toyota's comment regarding dot tolerances correct?within this amount of inaccuracy, i find this to be a safety concern especially during highway driving.is toyota allowed to adjust the electronics that drive the odometer and speedometer to improve the accuracy?they say that they are not allowed to make any corrections to the system.has this problem been previously report?

Purchase the 2011 toyota avalon on june 13, 2010 which on my first service date i complained about the steering column and harsh feeling of the car due to the steering column. Buena park toyota kept telling me that there was nothing wrong right up to the last service that was done the end of june 2014. On june 30th went to victorville to visit my wifes sister. On july 2 2014 we started back home when the engine light and tracking light came on, fortatley the issue happened before coming down the cajhon pass on highway 15. We where only 2 miles away from the toyota dealership in victorville and they found that the steering column was faulty and replaced column assy, steering and boldt steering lock. Plus po500 trans speed sensor poss loose connections cleaned and tightened connections at speed sennsor. The dealership stated it showes a defect on the computer showing the steering column has a defect. Why isn't there a recall concerning the above this is very dangerous problem which could take a lot of innocent lifes. 1/7/12-12:30 am i was stopped at a red light. My foot was on the brake. Suddenly the motor began to race. I stood on the brake put the shift into park and turned off the ignition. After a short period ( about 30 seconds) i turned the ignition on and everything was normal.1/10/12- i called thedealer and they gave me an appointment . But the earliest wasat 8.30 on 1/17/12 for which they confirmed by e-mail.on 1/12/12, (5:15 pm), my wife pulled into a parking space in a shopping area. She came to a complete stopthen applied the brake and shifted into park. Suddenly, the motor raced and the car bolted forward. It jumped a 6" curb over paving stones, which were thrown about and smashed a wooden fence. A 4" steel column which backs up the fence stopped the car. Luckily no one was injured. The police were called and the auto was towed to the dealership.the damage to thevehicle is $3257.00. Photos are available.the manufacturer claims there is nothing wrong with the car. We say after only a 5 mile road test this is not enough for a car that was driven 3,733 miles and had two incidents.my wife and i, will never drive this car again. We value our lives and that of others that could become victims of another incident.
I was entering interstate highway 80 from an on ramp when there was a loud noise, followed by wind noise and within a short time a snapping type of noise followed by quiet.i stopped an on inspection found that the left-side plastic under-engine cover had fallen off.within a few days the right side panel started dragging on the road and had to be removed.i had both replaced about a month later.three days after the replacement while on by way to the airport and passing a semi truck there was a large crack noise and one of the engineunder-covers skidded from under the car and went in a ditch.i had that panel replaced about a month later (march 6, 2013).on july 13, 2013 the left under-engine cover started dragging on the road and i had to pull off, fortunately having a tool that i could remove the one remaining fastener to remove the panel.at the same time i noted that several of the fasteners on the right side panel were also missing entirely or loose.these panels are light weight plastic and are not likely to damage any other car that would run into them.however, it they fly out from under the car they may cause the following driver or an on-coming vehicle in the opposite direction to swerve to avoid it and precipitate an accident.although the original equipment panels and fasteners lasted for about 36,000 miles the fastening system is subject to abuse.for example, the curbs in my city are about the same height as the clearance of the front skirt of the car so the fasteners may be subject to abuse and could be expected to fail due to this sort of unintendedabuse. The same sort of thing may happen in wither when chunks of snow or ice may scrape that area. So, i think there is a design issue with them being secure over the life of the car.
The contact owns a 2011 toyota avalon. The contact stated that the newly designed high intensity discharged headlights only allowed partially illumination of the road and the contact was concerned the failure could cause a crash. The manufacturer was contacted and filed a report of the failure but provided no further assistance. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the contact was advised that they were unable to make repairs because the headlights were operating as designed. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 15 and the current mileage was 750.
Headlights blinked for a year plus.headlightsfailed at night while driving.lucky we were not on a long trip but was driving in snow.also lucky there was no accident.returned to toyota dealer and was told that my vin did not have the problem as other viv's of the same year did.they replaced the ballasts (noted as defective on the repair invioce) and stated the defective ballasts caused the both headlights to burn.this is a serious safety situation.the cost to replace the ballasts and headlights was $967.70.wow.toyota will not warranty the parts or labor.their claim is that my vin didn't have the defective ballasts which after reading this that analysis is wrong.i expected to be notified that there was a safety recall.i expect more quality from an avalon.i have owned several toyotas (2 at present) and these will be the last.i will not do business with a company that weasels from there responsibilities.

Sudden acceleration when shifted into reverse gear and the brakes would noteven slow the car. It was only stopped by hitting a low retaining was, knocking it down, and then falling over the edge of the driveway and being suspended like a "see-saw" over the edge of the driveway with the possibility of a 10+ foot drop off into a wooded ravine.

The contact owns a 2011 toyota avalon. The contact was driving approximately 60 mph with the front driver's side heated seat activated when suddenly, a loud bang was heard. The front driver's seat cushion them became sunken. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for diagnosis however, the technician was unable to locate a failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 35,400.
Head rest does not allow driver to sit up straight.neck is bent forward causing discomfort.
I was using the lever to push the seat away from the steering wheel when one side stopped moving, causing the other side to derail.i took the car to jim hudson toyota immediately, and the technician was able to get seat back on track.however, he wasn't able to get the side moving, and stated the entire seat rail would have to be replaced.furthermore, i was told i have a leak in the rod and pinion system because the inner seal needs to be replaced.although, i service my vehicle regularly with fred anderson toyota, and nothing has ever been said about this.
While driving 5 mph from parking spot to front of restaurant to pick up passenger, car suddenly accelerated very fast without depressing gas pedal.both feet were applied to brake pedal and car did not slow down or stop until it hit cement pillar causing extensive damage, totaling the car and causing injury to driver.

The contact owns a 2011 toyota avalon.the contact stated that there was grinding noise coming from the rear of the vehicle. The contact stated that the brake pedal seemed to go down closer to the floor when braking. The vehicle was taken to three different dealers and was told nothing was wrong with the brakes. Each dealer mentioned that there was posibility that the brakes produce noise whenever they were engaged. The contact stated that the vehicle had a longer stopping distance then before. The failure mileage was unknown and the current mileage was 27,000.
I havehad to replace my front brake rotors 4 times on my 2011 avalon.. I currently have 173,800 miles with 75-80% of this mileage on the open highway. Several mechanics have indicated that this premature wear on the front rotors is highly unusual. My attempts to contact toyota about this premature rotor wear issue have either no response or a form letter stating they have no issues with their brakes.my vehicle is serviced regularly and to me this is a very serious and potentially dangerous issue. Perhaps you can get the attention of toyota to look into this matter.

Had brake and steering problems. The steering wheel was really loose. I had to apply 95% of the brake before the brakes were engaged. I took it back to claremont toyota in ca where i bought it. They just looked at it and said it's working like designed and sent me home. No other responses or assistance.
Foot firmly on brake, shifting to reverse.engine roared to life and vehicle thrust backward.followed by four other episodes of sudden acceleration while foot on brake.the last of these resulted in light rear-end collision.no visible damage to struck pickup.front grill of avalon visibly crushed.these five incidents occurred over a period of about nine days.i have refused to drive it since.
Car is less than 5 years old.it has an adjustable (in and out) steering wheel column.upon accepting the car, this was set and had not been changed with myself being the only driver.twice (once in 2nd yr, once in 4th yr) when turning in an intersection, the steering wheel collapsed. I was able to complete the turn, and then readjust the column and lock it.in this 5th year i took the car in for a safety recall on the audio system, and at the same time asked that a warranty enhancement be done on securing the telescopic adjustment lever - thinking this would correct the problem.however, i was told the telescopic adjustment was for the steering column going up and down (not in and out), and though my car did not need this correction, it was done.i was further told that the collapsing of the steering column (in and out) was due to the steering column being worn out; that is was not covered by the car warranty; and that i would have to pay $997.04 to have it replaced.i declined thinking this should be covered by the warranty - i have never heard of a steering column wearing out.since leaving the dealership, 9/24/2015, the steering column has collapsed without warning numerous times, both in turns and when driving straight head and braking.i am extremely concerned as i think this is a major safety problem.the airbag is in the steering wheel, and if it should have to be used, it may collapse the steering wheel instead of protecting the driver!this should be a warranty item.this is definitely a safety item!this is definitely much more serious than the recall for the steering wheel going up and down.date shown below is approximately the first time of numerous times the steering wheel has collapsed since asking the dealership about the problem.
Steering wheel collapsed i noticed the left side lever of the steering column had loosened causing me to swerve while driving because of the suddenness of the problem. This has happened at least 5 times between my wife and i.
The steering column adjustment lever on the left side of the steering column continually falls/comes loose.this has occurred too many times to count causing the steering wheel to drop during motorized operation of the vehicle.
This is my second avalon the first being a 2006 which had to have a steering columnreplaced when it had 24407 miles and out of warranty due to time i paid labor. The 2011 avalon has same problem 25000 miles and just under 30 days out of warranty they say it is different but is the same problem per the techjust changed part numbers. With the steering problem this is a safety problem which they say they will not repair under warranty . The service dept told me all of the avalons are having the same problem and have a bulletin to replace the steering column when they get a complaint from the customer. When you adjust the telescopic wheel the whole steering column is loose and knocks when you turn the wheel.
I have a new 2011 toyota avalon limited with just over 1,700 miles.the telescoping steering wheel lever located under the steering column has fallen out of the "locked" position five times. When this happens the steering wheel collapses in towards the dash. Toyota dealership says they have not heard of this happening. I, myself, have now found reports by other avalon owners with the same problem.
Went for my routine service and was told i have a rack&pinion leak, no leaking observed under carport but was shown the leak once car was placed on rack to be viewed. Asked if car was safe to drive to atlanta, mechanic and service manager encouraged me to go ahead and drive it, they stated it will need a new rack & pinion, stating it will cost approx.. $800.00 pulse $89.00 for front end aligment. They said this is normal for avalons to have this problem. This car was purchased from a toyota dearlership with 38,000 on speedometer and at the time of service i only had put approx. 21,000 miles. I read up on rack and pinion leaks and it stated it could be dangerous if the fluid started to spur out without a warning and can cause you to lose control of the vehicle. I purchased i thought an extended warranty for $2600 and to be told that the warranty expired in may 2018, 3yrs or 30 thousand miles and car was served in aug.2018. I filed bankruptcy in 2016 and don't have extra money to fix my car so i called the fedelity warranty company and they told me i should as my dealership for a possible refund. Now the vehicle drive very bad and i feel like they should at compensate me and fix the vehicle at a reduced charge since i paid them $2600. I feel like my life has been put in danger because i can't afford to make a car note and pay a large fee to fix the car. Also i asked for new tires, but they said the tires were good for at 15,000 miles. I paid $24,995 for the avalon 2011 in 2014. They agreed to give me 2 new tires when needed, but these were not michelins, they were cheap tires and the these were placed on the front and the old michelins were placed on the back last year and at the next service date they told med they could not balance the tires. I'm disappointed because i feel i got a bad deal. I have never known it to be normal for a toyota brand car to expect problems.
Telescopic steering wheel lever will randomly drop, causing the steering wheel to collapse.happens while the car is in motion
Steering column lock lever comes loose without warning causing column to telescope to its lowest position.happens in traffic causing unsafe reaction when trying to reengage the lock lever to stabilize steering column.
Telescoping column feature collapses randomly. This has happened multiple times. Must reset the adjuster periodically to prevent.this is a safety hazard as it can and has happened while underway
The contact owns a 2011 toyota avalon. The contact steering column became abnormally loose and exhibited an unusual popping noise as the contact would turn the steering wheel. The vehicle was taken to another dealer who inspected the steering column. They stated the steering column was defective and it was replaced. The failure mileage was 8,000 and the current mileage was 8,500. Updated 03/07/11
The tilt/telescopic lever on the left side of the steering column stays in place via some type of friction tension.it regularly disengages by itself and allows the steering column/steering wheel to fall down or suddenly move inward.this can occur when the vehicle is in motion at both highway and slow speeds.it is dangerous as it can make it difficult to hang onto the steering wheel. A simple google search of this issue shows literally hundreds of complaints about this problem.it has happened to me perhaps more than 50 times since i've owned the vehicle.
The locking lever on the adjustable steering wheel will with out notice release itself causing the steering telescoping feature to become loose and difficult to maintain steering control needing to adjust and reposition the locking lever to regain steering control while the vehicle is moving. I just purchased the used one owner 2011 avalon with only 28,000 miles on it. The problem has occurred six times in a one month period.
2011 toyota avalon. Consumer states problem with parking brake and steering wheel *tgwthe consumer stated the parking brake did not hold on a 6% grade with the transmission in neutral. The dealer adjusted it to specification, but the brake still did not hold. The steering wheel telescope clamp level vibrated loose, allowing the steering wheel to telescope without warning.the dealer indicated the malfunction was somewhat common, but toyota had not issued a repair bulletin.
Steering column position lock lever continues to disengage. The lever, over time, works it's way down until it releases the "set" position of the steering column. This causes the steering column to move out of it's set position while driving which could cause a dangerous situation. This has occurred many times since i have owned this vehicle.i think there was a recall on other year models of the toyota avalon but i do not understand why 2011 was excluded.
Had brake and steering problems. The steering wheel was really loose. I had to apply 95% of the brake before the brakes were engaged. I took it back to claremont toyota in ca where i bought it. They just looked at it and said it's working like designed and sent me home. No other responses or assistance.
While driving in heavy trafficon i-26 through columbia, s.c., the lever that holds the steering wheel in position after adjustment by drivers became dis-engaged causing the steering wheel quickly fall forward causing me to lose partial control and swerve slightly before i could regain full control.i reported this to the service manager at johnson city toyota on my return home.i returned again a month later to report another incident and found the first report was not recorded.i, as well as my wife have had this dangerous situation occur at least once and sometimes twice a month for more than a year.i checked your data base and found that many other avalon owners registered this same complaint.
The contact owns a 2011 toyota avalon. The contact stated that while driving approximately 5 mph, the steering wheel became loose. The failure recurred intermittently as the contact drove at various speeds. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 40,000.
While driving the steering wheel adjustment lever drops on it's own and the steering moves in and out. It's hazardous for driving as well as for knee injuries.
The contact owns a 2011 toyota avalon. The contact stated while making a right or left turn, the steering column was loose. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact stated he was able to readjusted the steering column however, experienced the failure within a few days. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. A dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 111,800.
Steering wheel collapses without warning while driving. Told the part would be $800. Only 49000 miles on the car
Power steering fluid was seeping and then became a full leak that resulted in loss of all power steering fluid. Vehicle was examined, and toyota quoted a $1800 rack and pinion replacement. Mileage of failure is approximately 126k miles.
At highway speed (65+) the front end vibrates and can be felt in the steering wheel and the seats.
While driving, the steering column telescopic lever comes loose and the column depresses. It has happened several times while pulling up on the bottom of the steering wheel, during sharp turns for example, and the lever unlocks. Then as soon as you press on the steering wheel, perhaps some time later, the steering wheel goes completely into the dash. It is almost as if the steering wheel is falling away from me, and i have partially gone through two (thankfully empty) intersections because i lost control of the car because the steering column collapsed unexpectedly.
Telescoping lever releases by itself causing whole steering wheel to suddenly collapse to seated (lowest) position.extremely dangerous driving within speed limit (55 mph) while on highway.it happens suddenly, unexpected and totally inexcusable if an accident which could be fatal occur.there numerous complaints but no authorized repairs from the manufacture at this time which is somewhat disappointing due to the fact that this is a "saftey issue".please help us in getting this matter resolved since it has been going on for years, fortunately i think there hasn't been any fatalities "yet".
The contact owns a 2011 toyota avalon. The contact stated that the lever that held the steering wheel in place would intermittently become loose. As a result, the steering wheel would drop downward more than usual. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and they were unable to diagnose the failure. The steering wheel suddenly telescoped toward the dashboard. Upon inspection, the locking lever had dropped down slightly releasing the telescope feature. Have reported this 4 times to the dealer. Problem has occurred several times while driving on smooth surfaces. Supposedly corrected each time or else could not find problem.
Steering wheel telescoping lock fails repeatedly during normal driving.
Told my avalon with 43,609 miles has the rack and pinion assembly leaking

I have a new 2011 toyota avalon limited with just over 1,700 miles.the telescoping steering wheel lever located under the steering column has fallen out of the "locked" position five times. When this happens the steering wheel collapses in towards the dash. Toyota dealership says they have not heard of this happening. I, myself, have now found reports by other avalon owners with the same problem.
I have a 2011 toyota avalon limited with a power rear sunscreen. The control buttons for the sunscreen are positioned adjacent to the trunk release switch on the dashboard located near the left knee of the driver which is hidden by the steering column. While driving i inadvertently pushed the trunk release button instead of the sunscreen button and the trunk popped open. I would think that the trunk release button should either be away from the power sunscreen switch or non operational while driving.
The rear power sunshade control is next to the trunk button. I accidentally pushed the wrong button while driving and opened the trunk..the trunk button should have a safety switch which doesn't allow the truck to be opened while the car is in drive.
My drivers door lost a nut on the top bolt of the door closing mechanism. The door began to click when opened and closed. Within a week the bottom nut of the same door closing mechanism began to pull through the metal. Toyota dealership refused to repair it and sent me to a body shop. The body shop manager told me he had seen this same issue lately on a lot of toyotas. I had to pay for my repairs when it was caused by normal door opening and closing. No excessive use or incident such as wind was involved i have owned this car since it was new. I'm not sure if it is an issue with how tightly toyota is putting the bits on or an issue with a part, but it causes damage and costly repairs. Toyota should be accountable.
My paint is peeling off my car already had one area fixed on it & now more is peeling on the roof. This is ridiculous i'm still paying on this car & this looks hideous 🤬 toyota needs to do some recalls sooner then later.
The contact owns a 2011 toyota avalon. When the front passenger and both rear doors were locked, the contact could only unlock them from inside the vehicle. The dealer diagnosed that the door activators failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired and the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 70,000.
At highway speed (65+) the front end vibrates and can be felt in the steering wheel and the seats.
My car was flooded because of a blocked air conditioner drain which the dealer said was filled with debris.the car is only one and a half years old with only 16500 miles on it.it is driven on pavement and not parked under trees.a service representative intimated that this is a common problem and that the drain could have been designed improperly.i am concerned about mold forming because of this flooding situation.
Telescoping steering column lock loosens while driving causing steering wheel and brakes to shake. Advised my local toyota dealer and they said it was not covered under warranty but i could pay them to repair the issue with a upgraded repair that toyota has identified. A notice was never sent out to toyota owners. This should be a recall notice. Safety issue while driving. Service bulletin (#00206, nhtsa # 10019669)they now inform me of a known issue with the telescopic lever detent clip and a technical service bulletin tsb-0147-13 and also that toyota had a warranty enhancement program - zty to address it which expired in september of 2019. I don't understand how this is not a safety recall that toyota should continue to stand behind.
2011 toyota avalon limited with 80,000 miles.the rear sunshade has begun operating on its own.it raises and lowers without my pushing button,it does this during daylight and at night.hinders backing, especially at night.i have read on the "net" this is typical at this mileage.

This toyota was in a six (6) car traffic crash list than 5 miles an hour. Air bags did not go off. This car was number 5. Cars were slowing down for a red light. This car had front end and rear end damage. This car maybe total. One body shop person said it was totaled. Air bag in six car did go off which did hit this car in the rear end. The front of this car has heavy damage. This was less than 5 miles an hour.
2011 toyota avalon. Consumer states trunk opener switch is a safety hazard *tgwthe consumer stated his vehicle has a sunshade and the switch is located next to the trunk opener. The contact owns a 2011 toyota avalon. After briefly tapping the accelerator pedal, the vehicle made a loud abnormal noise and experienced a brief period of unintended acceleration. As a result, the contact struck a palm tree at 5 mph. There were no warning indicators illuminated prior to or after the failure. The vehicle had to be towed from the scene of the crash and taken to the dealer where it could not be diagnosed. An independent mechanic repaired the vehicle. There were no injuries and a police report was not filed. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 15,000.
While pulling into parking space at a very slow speed, while applying brake, the car accelerated unexpectedly with so much force that it overpowered the brake and caused a collision into a cement pole which caused major front in damage to the vehicle. The foot was on the brake and was not, at the same time, touching the gas pedal. There was no obstruction from the floor mat. The car was traveling slightly uphill into the parking space so there is a chance that the transmission had shifted into a lower gear, but at the time of the sudden acceleration, the foot had already been applied to the brake.

From a dead stop, car irregularity hesitates when one is beginning to move forward.for an instance one gets the feeling the automobile is going to stall.this is a bit unnerving.
2011 toyota avalon. Consumer states unintended acceleration on two occasions *tgwthe consumer stated as he was slowing down, the engine suddenly revved up, while his foot was on the brake.he turned the engine off and then restarted it. The second incident occurred on december 21, 2011 as he was about to the park, the engine revved again, at a high rate, while his foot was on the brake. The consumer went to the dealer. However, they were unable to find a problem. The consumer also stated when the vehicle was started, the rear window sun screen would engage.
I bought a new 2011 avalon may 2010. Within 2 weeks, film from gas vapors formed on interior windows.the film impedes clear vision which is a safety hazard. The film is so thick, one can write their name. Looking outward it appears you are inside an iridescence bubble. Reflection from sun and headlights worsens the problem to the point that it's difficult to judge the distance between your car and other vehicles. I've been to arbitration through national center for dispute resolutioncase # 2210170;i requested msds sheets for the cause of the gas vapors. Instead i was provided a copy of a letter from toyota corp dated 1989 stating "there are no known carcinogenic materials."tasc# 102320282. .i find it hard to believe that in 21 years toyota hasn't changed the parts in cars.i requested either (1) permanent resolution to fix the film on the windows problem; (2) a full refund, or (3) new car w/o the gas vapor problem.i was offered$500 for car washes!a bumper sticker on the car now states "i am a lemon, never buy a toyota."

I bought a new 2011 toyota avalon in april of 2010.within a couple of weeks the inside of the windows are covered with a film from gas vapors.it is so thick that it reduces your vision particularly in the sun.it is a safety issue.i reported it to the dealer but they just listen and do nothing.a friend of mine also bought a new avalon in may of 2011 and their car has the same problem so over a year later the avalons are doing the same thing.
The rear power sunshade control is next to the trunk button. I accidentally pushed the wrong button while driving and opened the trunk..the trunk button should have a safety switch which doesn't allow the truck to be opened while the car is in drive.

The rear sunshade is broken and won't down when i put the car in reverse like it's supposed to. The shade limits my visibility. It's so bad that i try not to drive at night or during fog or rain because i can't see at all then. The dealer tells me that this is a common problem but, my warranty doesn't cover it. I can't afford to have this fixed or even checked out. I need some help with this.
Flim over rear window, inside the glass , around the heat elements.i can not clean the film off.i can not see through the rear glass, this is a safety hazard.
Rear window sunshade makes a loud grinding noise in the down position. It must remain in the up position at all times. Visibility is zero at night.it started a couple weeks ago. The loud noise is while in reverse and continues unless you manually place the shade in the up position.this continues regardless of in motion or stationary, turning, street or highway
Iraised my rear sunshade and couldn't lower it. It was during the day running errands and very difficult to see out the back window. I chose not to drive my car late evenings and night because of safety and visibility .i need my car 24/7, i paid for the shade to be lowered but it's inoperable. This summer i know i will need the sunshade.
The rear sunshade is stuck in the upright position without being activated and does not go down when the car in put in reverse.this is a very dangerous and potentially fatal situation at night when visibility is poor. There are a plethora of complaints about the sunshade on the internet.when i asked the dealership how much it would cost to repair, they only replace the device for $1000, and the defective sunshade even after replacement could repeat the hazardous situation.toyota should replace the defective, hazardous part at no cost.it is a threat to safety for all passengers.the defect occurred randomly without provocation upon startup with the car parked.a grinding noise was heard, then the shade went up - unresponsive to the activating/deactivation control button.i had to drive in the slow lane due to poor visibility.
The rear sunshade does not work and obstructs your view of the rear road. If you google it i'm not the only one with this complaint.
The contact owns a 2011 toyota avalon. The contact stated that the rear view mirror erroneously displayed duplicate images. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who stated that there was no failure. Vehicle sunshade will not stay retracted.it will seat after lots of noise and gyrations from the electric motor.however, once reverse is engaged again, it grinds some more until it gets seated.there is no way to disengage:works whether you want it to or not.other than the annoyance is that last night it stayed up on a long trip in rainy, foggy weather.we could see nothing behind us - completely blocked.also, i am having some heart issues and the loud, abrupt noise is not appreciated every time the sunshade goes down and tries to see (very loud!).cost $57.75 at the dealer to disable this device in the down position (see attached receipt).this should be a safety recall - i note online that this is a common problem on several model years of the avalon.
