Injury:broke sternum; accident at 60mph cost to my vehicle was $14,000.00, went to hospital, for diagnosis.went to deland, fla. Hospital. My air bags never deployed.i feel i have an unsafe car!! i am a doctor in fl. I would like someone to contact me at:[xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

The contact owned a 2010 toyota avalon. While driving 75 mph, a large deer collided head on into the front of the vehicle. The air bags failed to deploy. The contact stated that the impact knocked the engine block out of place and pushed it backwards into the windshield area. The contact suffered injuries to the back, a concussion, whiplash, right knee, left arm and wrist. The passenger also experienced injuries to the back, right shoulder, whiplash, and a concussion. Both occupants received medical attention and currently still undergoing medical exams for the injuries. The vehicle was towed to an impound lot and deemed destroyed. The insurance adjuster mentioned that the air bags should have deployed. Louisburge sherriff's department was present, but a police report was not filed. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The dealer was not contacted. The cause of the failure was not diagnosed. The approximate failure mileage was 130,000.

My new (purchased sept. 2009) 2010 toyota avalon was involved in an accident due to a vehicle defect (this model is under a recall by toyota).i came to a complete stop for a vehicle backing out of a driveway.after the other vehicle came to a complete stop, i proceeded to go around the other vehicle (which remained stationary).as soon as i touched the accelerator, my vehicle accelerated rapidly.i took my foot off the gas pedal immediately but i could still hear the engine revving at high speed.i was unable to stop my vehicle until it had gone a distance of two blocks and had crashed into four parked cars, damaging them substantially.fortunately, there were no personal injuries.

I have a problem that i am afraid could cause me to have an accident. Just a few months after purchasing my 2010 toyota avalon i started having this problem intermittently. Sometimes it kind of stalls.usually happens when i am turning from a complete stop, such as turning right or left. It is as though my car stalls for a moment. I give it gas, but it doesn't do anything for a few moments. Usually around 15 to 20 mph. If iam pulling out in front of traffic i almost get hit. Recently i was on the highway, i just pulled out and was going approx. 40 mphand it stalled for a few moments, maybe less than a minute. If a car had been behind me i would have been hit. Each time i told the service advisor@ the dealer i was told they had to be able to duplicate this. It only does it on occasion. But this is a serious problem.

On our 2010 toyota avalon we have had all the lights on our dash go outfor a period of 10 seconds or so on 2 different occasions while we were applying the brakes and making a turn.the dash lights on all our gauges go out and come back on there own.the brakes continue to work and no harm was done to anyone, but when we took it back to out dealer they could not make it do it when they checked it out so they simply returned our car back to us without any further investigation.we are concerned because this isn't normal.is there something wrong with the electrical system on this car or somethingto due with the computer system?

2008 toyota avalon february 16th and 17th my car jolted forward at stop light. I was able to stop the car but, it did go about 50ft before i could control the steering wheel and stop the car.i had this serviced at lake norman toyota(704) 875-9199 earlier this month. Upon calling in today about my car, was informed the repair had not been completed. Why in the heck did the dealership tell me they could not find an issue and the car was drivable? my life and that of not only my family but others is at stake. I want action, truthfulness and accountability from toyota and the usa.

The failure and current mileages were 900.the consumer stated when he picked up the vehicle, the bluetooth that was described in the owners manual and the vehicle that he was shown was not installed in the vehicle, instead the vehicle what was called blu logic, even though the window sticker listed bluetooth under the options.updated 04/23/10

My 2010 toyota avalon limited sometimes stalls at 20 mph or when turning left, or switchinglanes. It is as though itpauses, but doesn't die. It only happens maybe once or twice a week, but the toyota dealer has not been able to find a problem.

2010 toyota avalon was taken to dealership (visalia toyota) for hi-beam bulbs exploding when turned on. Dealer replaced bulbs but this has not solved the problem. The repair per the last visit to the dealership will require the replacement of the whole headlight assembly due to a recurring problem toyota has had with this lighting system. They have known about this problem yet now state that my car is over the mileage requirement to have the headlight assembly replaced under warranty. I am the original owner of this vehicle and have never been notified of a problem by toyota of the headlight assembly by the manufacturer or the dealership. This is a safety issue and a potential hazard which they have known about and should be taken care of by toyota. I have receipts of my actions from toyota of visalia 922 so ben maddox visalia calif 93279.

I have a 2008 toyota avalon touring model.since late june of 2010 through october of 2010 the car has been driven on 3 consecutive long trips.the first trip was approximately 3600 miles, the second trip was approximately 1200 miles and the last trip was 1800 miles.all of these trips the head lamp system was set on auto.the bright lights were used on occasion when on dark roads or during the day to signal to trucks or other drivers that it was safe to pull in on a passing situation.on the last trip, during the night the brights worked perfectly.on a day trip in a caravan, i had to signal the vehicles ahead of me to slow down as the vehicles behind me were stopped. I did this by repeatedly flashing the high beams.that night both high beams did not work even though the blue indicator on the dash says they are on.i took it to the dealer to see if it was a relay or other item as i wouldn't expect both high beams to burn out at the same time.the dealer said they were both burnt out and wanted close to $225 to change them out.i elected to do the work myself and have ordered the parts from my auto parts store.before the bulbs came in the main lights have started acting up.the right side main beam went out temporarily 2 nights ago.i reset the system and it started working.last night i pulled into my driveway and waited for my passenger to join me.the lights remained on.i pulled out and started forward to hear a click and both front beams went out.the green light for the headlamp system was still on.i reset the system and they now work.i have now picked up the bright beam bulbs and will install them tonight. I will report any more failures on this site immediately.

High beam headlights suddenly stopped working on both sides.

1.on three occasions the accelerator pedal was jammed open by factory cloth floor mat.removed the mat.2.on multiple recent occasions when the car is started and placed in reverse to back out of a parking space the car will not move even if the accelerator is pressed.car seems as if the wheels are chocked.then when car does move it accelerate quickly in reverse.have discovered when this happens the traction controlappears when the car is shifted into reverse and stays lit for a period of time, then the light goes out and the car simultaneously feels as if the brakes have been released even though the brake pedal was not depressed.it is easy to understand how a driver could press the accelerator to get the vehicle to move and then have the car shoot backwards causing damage or injury.3.on three separate occasions while wearing boots i removed my foot from the accelerator and depressed the brake pedal only to have the vehicle instead of decelerating, accelerate very quickly.the reaction eachtime was to press the brake pedal even harder resulting only in the vehicle accelerating evenharder.on one of those occasions it occurred backing out of a driveway and although i was ableto stop the vehiclequickly it nonetheless accelerated several feet into themiddle of a street.it is clear that these three incidents occurred because of the proximity of the brake and accelerator pedals and inadvertently but simultaneously depressing both.i believe the situation is aggravated by the fact when depressing the brake pedal you cannot feel the accelerator pedal under your foot and have no idea you are pressing the accelerator until you go through the mental process of trying to determine why the harder you depress the brake the faster the car goes.it is easy to understand why one might panic and "stand" on the brake pedal only to have the car accelerate to a very dangerous speed.my 190 mph motorcycle doesn't scare me, the venza does.

When on incline going in a upward direction while in drive position vehicle will suddenly roll backward when removing foot from brake to accelerator.

The contact owns a 2010 toyota avalon. The contact stated the head restraints on both front seats were severely tilted forward making it impossible for the seat occupants to sit all the way back in the seats. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the contact was informed that the head restraints were operating as normal. The manufacturer was also notified and informed the contact the head restraints were operating in the manner in which they were designed. The manufacturer did not provide any assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 100 and the current mileage was 1,300.

I was in traffic waiting behind a truck to go and my car started moving forward. I had my foot on brake car still moving forward, i pushed emergency brake and put it in park. End result my car hit the back of a truck. No injuries just a scratch on paint. I was very scaredbecause i couldn't control my vehicle.

My power steering return hose/tube had to be replaced. Toyota did reimburse the amount of the part since they said it was a manufacturing defect, but i had to pay for the labor. They said the tube was too close to the engine. The official charges are below.power steering return hose/tube. R&r 08/10 upper tube sub-assy, req/s p/s fluid $107.85labor $130.35.

The steering comun in-and-out adjustment control lever does not lock into position causing the steering wheel column unexpected free movement when the car is movingi

Steering wheel locking lever keeps disengaging. Steering wheel moves in and out while driving.

The latch on the lower left of the steering column that controls the positioning of the steering wheel constantly comes loose. I discovered that as i was driving on the highway, going straight, and the steering wheel suddenly slid in and down. Almost causing me to loose control with my children in the car.upon checking with a avalon fan group, i discovered that this is a issue with almost every single person who owns this body style.

The contact owns a 2010 toyota avalon. While driving at any speed and veering left, the steering wheel stiffened. The failure recurred multiple times. The vehicle was taken to a mechanic and the shocks and motor mount were replaced. The failure recurred. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 83,000. The manufacturer was not notified.

I have a 2010 toyota avalon which i like very much.unfortunately, it has a design defect.there is a lever on the steering column that lets the driver control the height of the steering wheel.unfortunately, the lever does not stay in the fixed position.over time it drops down as a result of road vibration and permits the steering column to compress.this has happened to me twice.the first occasion was quite scary as i had to slow down rapidly.fortunately, i was able to keep control of the vehicle.when it occurred a second time several months later, i was better prepared.i have reported the problem to the dealership where i purchased the car, but they said there was no problem.to avoid future incidents, i look at the lever almost everytime i get in the car.if it has started to go down, i pull it back up.i should not have to do this.

Driving on rt 81s in virginia when the telescoping steering column lock came unlocked. When i applied the brakes the steering wheel collapsed toward the dash. Since then it has happened multiple times. Seems to simply vibrate loose from traveling on bumpy roads. Took it back to dealer but they said they drove it 7 miles and it didn't fail so they couldn't do anything.since then, it has come unlocked 2 times in 264 miles. As long as i check it every time i start the car, and anytime i drive more than 100 miles, it's safe but this is not a good situation. Doing a search on the internet shows many people are having the same safety issue over multiple years of avalon's.

When vehicle was new steering would be difficult to turn at low speeds. It wouldn't happen all the time but it was not right.called toyota 1800 number is was quickly dismissed by help line. Four years later needed rack and pinion failed with 110 k on odometer. Warranty ran out at 100k. I got my use out and i fixed the steering. My issue is when i was looking for replacement parts on the internet i was shocked to see how many others who had issues and a lot less miles. I feel they are using subpar parts and looking to cut cost at the expense of safety. We know mr. Toyoda is a liar and paid a fine for lying to congress. I'm ok with cutting cost except on safety.

The steering wheel on my 2010 avalon collapses while driving. I have an adjustable "telescope" steering wheel that adjusts forward and backwards. It is controlled by a lever under the steering wheel which locks it into place. The lever will suddenly release without being touched, causing the steering wheel to collapse. This has happened on at least three occasions.

Lever that adjusts tilt steering wheel does not stay in place and when it falls it disengages the steering column lock at any time.

The contact returned the vehicle to the dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 99,700.

Last tuesday, dec 6th, 2016,i started my toyota avalon 2010 and got from a parking to higway pr 1, it suddenly accelerated out of control, i stepped on the brake pedal, shifted gear to lowest shift, stepped on the emergency break and only stopped when i did put it on pkg and turned it off. It took like 500 m to stop it. The floor carpet is one of the kind that keep secured to the car floor and didn't interferred with the gas pedal. . i bought it new in nov 2009. The gas pedal never look stuck but it sounded like the engine was being fed with a lot of gas.the car is at a toyota service shop since more than 48 hours but i still don't have a diagnosis. There was no colission. I got the car towed to the toyota service shop after reporting the incident to my insurance company.

I bought my car one week before all the recalls started i don't feel safe in my car.

My 2010 toyota avalon does infact accelerate on it's on when you are approaching a traffic light or stop sign.when you let off the gas and let it coast at about 20mph it will start to accelerate on it's own.i do not in any way believe this is a pedal problem.your investigators are welcome to drive it.i purchased the car on dec 31st.

Recent purchase of a new 2010 toyota avalon , now involved in arecall- had a defective accelerator pedal, which was recently replaced by the toyota dealership.we occasionally feel a "lurch", when starting up the car or backing up.

Rear window shade would not retract.driving at night it was difficult to see out rear window due to shade being stuck in raised position.toyota wanted $1,500 repair it, but the parts were not available and per their employee, it had been back ordered three times.this indicated to him a manufacturing problem.

Rear sunshade is stuck in the up position. Itis difficult to see out of the back window. I know may avalons have this same problem. The cost to fix it is far beyond reason.
