Side airbag cover is coming down from front roof support and affecting vision.

Multiple cracks and fissures in passenger side air bag plastic cover plate that can break or snap in an accident and could cause injury to face.

The contact owns a 2007 toyota avalon. In december 2009, while driving 30 mph on a bridge the vehicle began to fishtail but she was able to control it. The vehicle began to accelerate suddenly and although she depressed the brakes, the vehicle would not slow down until she hit another vehicle while driving approximately 30 mph. The abs and skid assist lights were both illuminated on the dashboard. There were no injuries and a police report was taken. She also stated that the air bags did not deploy. She had not spoken with the manufacturer or the dealer to-date. The current and failure mileages were approximately 32,000.

My dashboard is melting and peeling. I am previous owner of a toyota that i owned for 16 years and never experienced this issue. Also my airbag light is coming on.

Entire dashboard above and below air bag compartments starting cracking about one year ago for no obvious reason .garage kept, 60, 000 miles.

Collision with another vehicle while making a left turn.driver's upper and lower (knee) airbags deployed.driver incurred severe cuts to both legs below the knee approximately half way down to ankle.cause of injuries has not been determined but inspection of vehicle disclosed that the knee airbag containment compartment in the low part of the dash has a flap/door that opens in deployment, is very extremely sharp and may have been the source of the injuries.

2007 toyota avalon car accident, snow and icy road conditions car skidded off of the road at a t-intersection ending up impacting with a tree with extensive front end damage and air bag deployment failure. Driver went forward hitting her forehead on the steering wheel and front passenger being jerked around and injuring her neck and back. Both occupants were wearing seat belts. This vehicle is to be brought to the body shop on 12-8-08 and i have notified our toyota dealer in superior wi on 12-6-08 to have an inspection by a toyota representative to find a cause for this deployment failure.

Crack observed in panel where airbag for the passenger is located, the panel is above the glove compartment.

Dashboard is cracking around the airbag area.

Cracks on the dashboard began two years ago and have gradually spread to include areas of the dashboard airbags.

Arrived at an intersection's light and applied the brakes and car accelerated and crashed into the car which was in front.the air bags failed to deploy as well.the consumer stated when his wife arrived at an intersection, she applied the brakes, but the vehicle accelerated and crashed into the vehicle that was crossing from west to east. While his wife was going from north to south.updated 03/29/10.

My husband was involved in an accident on october 28, 2008. The airbag on the steering wheel deployed as did a knee airbag. Injuries to his lower legs are extensive and i think these injuries were caused by the explosive force of the knee airbag. His left leg sustained a large laceration about 6 inches long by 4 inches wide. And a large area of tissue damage.the laceration could not be sutured and has remained open for more than two weeks. A very large area of tissue has gangrene because of the extent of the injury. His right lower leg was completely ecchymotic after the accident and there is now a localized area of tissue that needs to be debrided. (it looks like a huge blood blister.) extensive debridement of tissue will be done on both legs next week.for the first day following the accident, we had no idea how his lower legs could have sustained such injuries. Shortly after the accident, my husband mentioned that somehow he couldn't step on the brake after feeling the impact of the car that hit him. When i went to view our damaged car i was very surprised to see the air bag that was located at the level of the driver's legs. But it seemed to explain the extensive bilateral lower leg injuries as well as my husband's inability to reach the brake.these injuries have been very debilitating.

My car was parked in a parking lot and was hit by some type of vehicle. The damage was extensive and the airbags deployed and the seat belt locked on the drivers side. The damage was to the right side. There was no one in the car and no witnesses as to what happened but it has been 4 weeks and my insurance is suddenly refusing to pay after issuing a work order to the repair person because the air bags deployed. There is a boat ramp across from the parking lot. I do not know for sure what hit my car, i just do not feel it is fair that usaa is telling me the airbag can not deploy without the ignition being on. I have not had a rental and had to drive my son's hunting truck which is very uncomfortable.they tried to say there was no way the car could have been hit in the parking lot.i have witnesses, one who confirmed that we found my car in the parking lot with the damage done and i was very upset when i saw it because i was sick and stress adds to my illness so i had someone drive my car to the repair shop and the guy told me it did not need to be driven again and to call in a report to the insurance company. The shop has almost finished the work and now the two investigators who came and interrogated me today and completely shocked me with what they were saying upset me greatly. If the airbag can not deploy when it should and has come out when no accident then why is there a problem with my airbag deploying when an obviously large vehicle hit it and did almost 9000 dollars in damage? please help me. I am a single mom who just moved from a home with black mold and my sister who financed the car for me has stage 4 lung cancer. I have so many diagnosis, i am on total disability. I am in the process of trying to buy a home after my kids and i have moved 5 times so i do not need this stress.i really need my car back. Thank you and god bless.

I was hit by another vehicle and my hole front in was smashed in and none of my airbags deployed. I was driving down a city street going straight and an avalanche truck pulled out of the parking lot trying to quickly jet across the street so he hit the gas peddle to move fast and smashed right into my passenger front side smashed the hole front end the radiator and everything my car was leaking radiator fluid and everything it's a total loss

We were driving on the highway when we heard a crack noise on the dashboard. Two cracks appeared all of a sudden. Since then there have been 3 more cracks on the dashboard. They appear without any particular reason. The cracks are between the glovebox and the airbag on the passenger side.the car is garaged at all times, when not driven. The cracks appeared at 36,000 miles. We have contacted toyota co. They took our complaint ref# 1308131120. According to them they do not show a recurring problem with cracking plastic in their cars. They won't do anything about it, because of the age of the car (2007). We are concerned that should we be involved in an accident where the airbags get inflated, we may sustain additional injuries by the plastic pieces coming apart from the dashboard and hitting us. Vehicle has around 39,0000 at this time.

My concern is about my cracked dashboard material. It's cracked directly across where my airbag deploy , on the passenger side of my 2007 toyota avalon. It's got to be a safety hazard. I don't believe it will deploy correctly, should it's needed. With the material already cracked, i think it would do serious damage to someone's face or body. I don't need a lawsuit from a passenger, plus i don't want anyone to get hurt.. So if it's possible, please investigate this issue. There's know way for me to know if this issue is safe.thanking you in advanced.

The contact owns a 2007 toyota avalon.while driving 40 mph, the contact's vehicle was rear ended and destroyed.his vehicle then struck another vehicle on the front end.the air bags failed to deploy.the seat belt did not restrain the driver from being pushed into the steering wheel and injured.the current and failure mileages were 12,000.

2007 toyota avalon.consumer writes in regards to vehicle acceleration issues.the consumer stated on two separate occasions, she experienced sudden acceleration, in which the first incident resulted in an accident. The consumer stated the first incident happened on december 23, 2013. As she was pulling into a parking space, the vehicle lost momentum and as she pressed the accelerator to finish parking, the vehicle shot forward. The vehicle jumped the curb of the sidewalk next to the wall of the building hitting the wall of a store, the air bags did not deploy. The consumer stated the vehicle was on the recalled list, and the vehicle was taken to the dealer, but she did not know what was done to the vehicle at the time. The consumer has since traded the vehicle.

Takata recall.the panels are all cracking around the dashboard and around where the airbags are located.it is not driven often and is garage kept and stationary most of the time.the cracks are spreading and getting worse over entire dashboard.

Repeatedly this car is doing dangerous, bizarre things, and they're getting worse. There' is apparently a problem with the electrical system: when honking the horn the radio comes blaring on very loud and the ac and blower blast out at full force (startling my daughter); sometimes when braking hard, the radio goes on; often when honking the horn, the ac goes on and the radio goes on; when using turn signals the ac goes on and the heater goes on; when turning on ac the horn honks. This is more than annoying -- it is bordering on causing possible serious distractions and an accident. This is a toyota problem -- why should i have spend big dollars getting it taken care of. Surely other car owners have reported similar issues???

Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)i an the original owner of a 2007 toyota avalon [xxx]- -as of 26 feb 2010, i have been notified of no recalls.

Car was misfiring 1 year after purchase this car was supposedly a fleet car, with know previous problems. But coil pack was malfunctioning. And needed to be replaced.

In june 2008, i bought a new 2007 toyota avalon at a local toyota dealership, harr toyota at 100 gold star blvd, worcester, ma 01606.i had been enjoying driving the car for the past 6 years and have always thought that the next vehicle for my family will be another toyota avalon.i liked it smooth drive, number of features, plenty of space and the most the reliability.all maintenance on the vehicle has been performed as required and i thought that as long as i take good care of it, i could drive it for many more years.unfortunately, one week ago, when my family and i were traveling on the state highway, i-90, the cars speed dropped from about 67 mph to 0 in a matter of seconds.the vehicle became unresponsive causing me a tremendous amount of stress.i must have been born under a lucky star? because i was able to move to the break down lane without causing what could have been a major accident.i am sure that anyone that has had their loved ones at a great risk would understand my feelings. We received help from the state police in terms of towing the car to the nearest toyota dealership, bernardi toyota at 1626 worcester rd, framingham, ma. The problem with a car was identified as failure of the transmission system and the car was repaired at a cost of $5,100.given the fact that the car has only 57,000 miles on it (minimal mileage when compare to the anticipated longevity and reliability of toyota) and one year past 5-year warranty (2008-2014) makes me extremely disappointed. I would appreciate you to strongly consider reimbursing me for the substantial cost of the repairs that were caused by what deemed a substandard original transmission in my vehicle.i look forward to your reply. Please contact me at the e-mail addresser by phone.[xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Abs and brake light on, air conditioner blowing hot air, temperature gauge not working, engine electric fans not working. All above was working when parked on next startup above faults noted. Took car to toyota and found computer mounted on abs control was shorting out the digital buss for all the computers. When this computer was unhooked ac works temperature gauge works and fan works. However now no speedometer, odometer, trip indicators work and now has check engine light as well as abs and brake light indicator are lit.

The contact owns a 2007 toyota avalon.the vehicle'spush button starter will not start the vehicle. The dealer informed the contact that the push starter needed to be reprogrammed.the day after the push button starter was reprogrammedthe contact was unable to start the vehicle.during a second attempt to repair the vehiclethe dealerreprogrammed the starter with the computer in the vehicle.the contact stated that the failure continued to occur. The current and failure mileage were200. Update 04/19/07

The radio station started to fade in and out.then the dashboard console started to shut down and displayed the letter f (for fail).then the engine shut down while i was driving on a divided four-lane highway in the lane closest to the median.there was no time to move into the right-hand lane.there was never any battery warning light or other indication that the battery did not have enough charge to run the engine or even to power the emergency flashers.the problem was that the alternator failed.the battery didn't need replacing.only the alternator needed replacing.i had the toyota service department test the battery warning light and was told that the sensor was working properly.i have had no trouble with the car since the alternator was replaced.i was told that the alternator has three diodes and the failure of one or two diodes can still provide sufficient charge.evidently eventually all three diodes failed.i wasn't told how many failed.my complaint is that i had insufficient warning that the alternator had failed.as far as i knew, the problem was in the console which i thought would not require immediate exit from the four lane highway.the lack of a proper warning means to me that i could have been stranded on an interstate expressway without a means for getting out of a high speed lane.that is a very dangerous situation and warrants an investigation into why toyota provides no warning for an alternator failure.

Idler bearing froze which took out serpentine belt.lost power steering and cooling and electric.this is the second one i have replaced this year both being oem parts.

The contact owns a 2007 toyota avalon. While driving approximately 35 mph, all of the lights suddenly shut off. The contact was able to shift from automatic to manual gears. The lights shut off and then back onfor a few second, and then back off again. The contact was able to turn the lights back on; however, they shut off again within ten minutes. He took the vehicle to an authorized dealer who performed a diagnostic test but was unable to determine what caused the failure to occur. The contact called the manufacturer who stated that a representative would inspect the vehicle. The vehicle had not been repaired or inspected at the timethe complaint.the current mileage was 32,746. The failure mileage was approximately 32,650.

Sudden acceleration when resume depressed from cruise and when laser beam returns from being enacted. The acceleration is sudden and neck-snapping. I no longer use laser but always use 'normal ' cruise since i had vehicle tested at bert wolfe toyota, charleston wv and they advised that vehicle was performing normal. I return to 'set speed ' manually since that time. I have notified toyota headquarters in california early in feb.2010 and have no reply. There is definitely an electronic problem. The consumer stated the vehicle has electrical and computer problems. Updated ivoq 06/02/10

Many very annoying and potentially hazardous electrical glitches (but which are very hard to replicate, and new glitches can appear without warning). Some examples: when i honk horn the radio might turn itself on; honk horn while braking and a/c may decide to blast on full force; use right turn signal and radio may turn itself on; doorstwo times unexpectedly locked when everyone was out of car for a moment (could be dangerous if car is still running or keys or a strapped-into-a-carseat child is left inside!); also, heater will not maintain constant temperature -- far from it, resulting in constantly jiggering the temp up dramatically, then down dramatically to make the temperature reasonably comfortable.all above, except for when car locked everyone out, happened while car was moving, in city and rural driving. Recently these glitches have gotten much more common and i fear more, perhaps more potentially deadly ones, could happen. Car has only 95k miles on it and has been well maintained.

Engine light on car having engine trouble power does not stay even, sometimes stalls out, took back tofor service due to engine prblems, tune up performed , and coil pack had to be replaced on a previous service in 2008 coil pack for cylinder 6 was replaced. Repair shop did not list which cylinder. But coil pack was replaced.

Car stalling out ,engine light coming on, speedfluctuates, , timing belt change is due. But suspect engine coil pack is failing again. This will be 3 times replaced in 7 years.

Recall number: set16b: the seats cushion is compressedand when turn on the heater for the seats it get over heated and it hard to turn it down so it can cool off fast. Load carrying capacity modifications labels this does not meet the standard no 110,requirements. Tire selection and rims sticking accelerator pedal the accelerator pedal is hard to depress slow to return to idle or in the worst case, mechanically stuck in a partially depressed position which make it hard for the car to slow down and stop.while in motion. Which can cause a risk of a crash. Pedal entrapment while in motion the open accelerator pedal become in a very high vehicle speeds and make it difficult to stop the vehicle which could cause a crash serious injury or death.

The contact owns a 2007 toyota avalon. The contact stated the ignition switch caused the keys to bend and they have been replaced three times. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer who was unable to determine what caused the keys to bend when they were inside the ignition. The contact stated this was a safety issue because the vehicle could fail to start if the key continued to bend. The failure mileage was 39,316.

I was driving my 2007 toyota avalon on 3/23/13 when the check engine light, traction control light, and stability control light all came on.i immediately went to a local napa store and discussed the error/s (found on my vehicle dash) with one of the sales assistants.. The sales assistant then went out to my car and interfaced his "black box" with my automobile computer and an error code p 2197 showed up.as it turns out this error code is a faulty oxygen sensor in bank two of my right exhaust manifold.the napa store did not have the oxygen sensor in stock however, as a favor to me they reset the computer and i regained use of my traction control, stability control, and elimination of the check engine light.after further research and verification from an independent garage it appears that toyota has a technical service bulletin on this issue. The technical bulletin is t-sb-0114-08.it applies to 2005-2007 avalon's and 2007-2008 camry's.the tsb states that the corrective action should include replacing both exhaust manifold oxygen sensors as well as the right exhaust manifold and gaskets to the tune of approximately $1,800.00.this is quite evidently an emission issue impacting the safety (no traction control and no stability control) of passengers in the aforementioned vehicles.it is also quite evident that this defective design puts the repair cost right on the back of the consumer.who has ever heard of replacing an exhaust manifold.

The contact owns a 2007 toyota avalon.the contact stated that the traction control device regulates the tires to maintain the same exact speed.when driving on a relatively small incline at 5 mph in inclement weather conditions, the traction control device slows down the speed of one tire to match the speed of the sliding tire.this abruptly decreases the overall speed of the vehicle.as a result, the risk of serious injury is increased.the dealer stated that some vehicles were built with an override system due to this failure.unfortunately, the contact's vehicle was not built with the override mechanism.the failure mileage was 22,000.

When driving north on i-95, my car began to slow down even though i had not released pressure on the gas peddle, so i accelerated. As soon as i accelerated, the car then began to run extremely rough, the rpm monitor fluctuated back and forth, and the began to slow down even more.i looked in the rear view mirror to check traffic as i prepared to pull off the interstate and saw smoke coming from the rear of the car. When i stopped and exited the car, smoke was then bellowing profusely from the front right side of the hood and upper right tire rim, so much so that i thought the engine was about to explode. It should also be noted that the check engine light never came on. A tow truck was called and now i'm waiting for my local toyota dealership to open so that i can find out what is wrong with my car. A similar energy surge and rough driving occurred approximately one year ago and my car was towed in, but no problem could be detected. The problem stopped as mysteriously as it appeared, with no serious reoccurrences until yesterday, 9/7/15. In 2014, the mechanic chalked the problem up to possibly bad or cheap gas.

Upon traveling through nash, tx on november 5, 2013, the oil light on my 2007 toyota avalon came on. The leaking line over the right front wheel busted. I pulled into robbins toyota. I spoke with service consultant [xxx]. He asked me what the problem was and i stated my oil light came on and i was experiencing an oil leak. He said he knew what is was and got my information and how i was going to pay. I told him cash, credit, or check. Then he asked where i was from. I told him georgia. He said he had the part to fix it and i asked [xxx] how much it would cost me? he replied $400. I said that sounds like a lot for a 6 inch hose. He stated i could have it fixed somewhere else but they had the part in stock. I said you know i cant drive this car like this so go ahead and fix it. They fixed it but only charged me $339. I was there for two hours and they charged me with two and a half hours. According to toyota it should take less than an hour. I received a letter from toyota on november 29, 2014 that this part on my 2007 year model toyota had been recalled. The letter stated if the part had not been replaced make an appointment to have it replaced by december 31, 2021. I sent all the information the letter stated and was sent a letter back saying i was declined for not sending everything that was asked. On january 8, 2015, i contacted my local dealership and he sent over all the information again and explained to them that i traded the car in june 2014. My case number is 1412170721. We never heard back on my case as of march 24, 2015. The letters received were from toyota motor sales, u.s.a., inc. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Purchased vehicle "as is" while recovering from surgery. Could not inspect vehicle. On first drive on city street, could not slow down to make a rh turn. Brakes did not fully engage, and driver had to shift down. Vehicle entered adjacent lawn before stopping.vehicle was driven slowly to toyota dealership where it was examined. Estimate to get vehicle running safely: $4,719.11.vehicle declared unsafe when sold.

Leaking timing cover.service manager at jay wolfe toyota, mo., say that 20% of avalons have this leak and will cost me $2,464 to repair.i mentioned that i worked for ford motor co and sat in on the weekly safety office recall meetings.he replied, 'it's not a safety issue', i said that if 20% vehicles have a failure rate after 7 years, nhtsa would like to be made aware of problem.

The contact owns a 2007 toyota avalon. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 25 mph, there was an abnormal odor coming from the engine. The contact then discovered that there was oil leaking from the engine. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the oil line hose had fractured. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 101,000.

The variable valve timing oil feedline was a recall for toyota a little short time ago in, 2015 the same problem reoccurs and i was just told by toyota that this is not their problem it's my problemi felt to understand how a factory defect would be the consumers problem

I was parking my car in reverse at a speed of less than 5 miles in a designated spot adjacent to my daughter's house in quebec, canada. The engine accelerated and hit a wooden fence behind my car. I applied the brake and put it into drive to go forward and to get out of the car to see what happened. Then, the car sped at about 100 miles an hour and crashed into a metal fence of a kindergarten school across the street and hit a tree inside the kindergarten. Then again, the vehicle crashed into the brick wall of my daughter's house in reverse. A 2x2 concrete block from the brick wall that my car encountered hit my rear windshield and landed inches away from my head inside my car. I called 911 and police showed up and they towed the car and i realized it was 9:41 pm as confirmed by the time on my cellphone and luckily no children were there to get killed.

The vehicle speeds up when it want to on it own. The steering column falls all the time. The passaenger seat wont recline at all but will lean back

The contact owns a 2007 toyota avalon. The contact stated that the check engine and the tire indicator warning lights were constantly illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a tire mechanic who inspected the tire but was unable to determine the failure. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 80,400. ..updated 01/16/2013updated 1/25/2013

In july 2013, my perfectly wonderful toyota avalon (2007, 67,700 miles) ruptured a ttvi oil hose and within a matter of minutes blew up my engine. Upon contacting toyota, i was told there hadbeen a service campaign for the exact problem for camrys and avalons including my year and model, but that i was not notified nor covered because my vin #was outside the parameters.i filed what i thought was an appeal of this phone and local dealer determination. I received acknowledgment of my complaint (1307241937) but no determination. I just called toyotanational torrance, and was told my status was closed because they had determined my vin was not covered-- my appeal was to the point of why my vin was not covered.i live in ky, 20 miles from the toyota plant and have many friends that work there. Many have told me that the vin is an unreliable parameter, because often they have old parts on their trays that are installed on later vehicles. Every party agrees that there was a service campaign on the exact rare defect-originated problem and that my damage was the result of the exact defect described in the campaign. Every party agrees that i was not notified. The issue is why my vin number (and thousands of others i am sure) was not included and why, given the evidence that it should have been included, toyota is not willing to reimburse me for the repair of the car---$307 for hose and $6500 for engine which ended up being the mark down of what local toyota gave me for my car toward a new car.

My 2007 avalon never had an oil problem. Last thursday i noticed oil in the driveway as a shoveled snow. I checked the oil level and the vehicle was 1 1/2 quarts down. I put the 1 1/2 quarts into the car and drove it to my mechanic 5 miles away. The mechanic said that the vehicle was totally out of oil and that i was very lucky that the engine didn't catch on fire because the oil was spraying all over the engine. The mechanic diagnosed the problem as an oil leak from the vvt-i oil hose. I went on line and discovered this limited service campaign for vvt-i oil line. I contacted the dealership where i purchased the vehicle. They stated that they would get back to me. They never did. I contacted toyota.com and spoke to the representative. They stated that the lsc was for 07 toyota avalon's but my vin wasn't include in the lsc, even though it was the same problem all the 07 avalons were having. This problem is going to cause major damage to the avalons. It is also very dangerous the way the oil leaks all over the engine. There is going to be a large number of engine fires. Toyota basically told me to bad and good luck. I hope something will be done before someone gets badly hurt.obviously all 07 avalons are effected not just a certain few vinsthe lsc can be obtained by goggling vvt-i oil leak, 2007 avolonshere is the lsc.

Car was misfiring 1 year after purchase this car was supposedly a fleet car, with know previous problems. But coil pack was malfunctioning. And needed to be replaced.

Transmission shifting uneven and some time it stays in one particular gear even brake is applied. Car doesn't not stop even while applied brake.i have to put my car in park p mode while it is running on the road to stop my vehicle.since even i apply brake it does not want to stop.

While car was in park, engine froze. According to toyota mechanic, coolant and oil were clean and at proper levels. Cause of the freeze ,he said, was part failure, specifically a bad valve. Engine is being replaced.

Driving at speed on interstate. A/c warning light illuminated. Turned off a/c. At destination, parked car for several hours. Did not turn on a/c when driving from parking lot. Soon check engine light vsc and trac lights came on.drove at low speed directly to toyota dealer to check problem. Dealer found oil level 1 qt. Low and oil leaking from vvti line. Tech used toyota scan tool found codes p0024 p0012 for vvti timing malfunctions.ttech replaced both vvti cams and cam housings, cam gears, intake gaskets, oil pump gasket, oil pan gasket, head gaskets, timing cover gasket. Initial estimate for repair was @ $6400 as car was out of warranty due to mileage. After discussion, the dealer got toyota to pick up the cost of most of the parts. I paid $2527 for labor and $28.57 for parts. Subsequently the dealer advised me that the problem had occasioned a toyota recall. I submitted a claim a month ago to toyota for a refund, but have had no reply from the company.

While driving ,without warning, the "v v t i oil line"burst, draining all the oil from the engine. There is loss of power with possible engine failure. At time of incident, leaves oil on road and windshields of any cars following.( this problem has occurred on toyota's v-6 engines since 2005. There has never been a recall...it only "quietly" gets repaired as you bring the car in with this problem. Toyota has changed this part 4 times with no recall. They have fixed the problem on the 2009 engines, replacing the defective rubber hose to a solid metal oil line. Toyota has known about this since 2005, and now with the gas pedal problem, want to hide the "recall" at the same time........problem is they put the same rubber part in . I paid $240.00 to change the part to the new all-metal part the 2009 and newer v-6 engines have.incident date and time and place:may 21,2009 10:38 am highway i-15 ...48 miles west of baker,ca ...in the middle of desert !

Total loss of oil from crankcase.burst oil line on my 2007 toyota avalon resulting in the pumping of oil onto the ground with no warning lights.this has been a documented problem for several years, as found on several consumer websites.the fix cost me >$450 not including towing to toyota dealer.

Steering columadjusting control continues to release.this causes the steering wheel togo into the the dash area or up or down.there is no control of steering. Before this incident, oil burst all over the engine and drained out of my car, spilled onto the floor of my garage.the oil light or check engine light never came on. Dealer made repairs after keeping my car -not a recallnotice but a noted problem.no power while pressing on the gas.there is a delayed reaction resulting in slow or no speed for passing or just driving (dealer indicated power trans problem - not recall kept car 3+ days for repairs). The grey paint has spots ithat will not come out with a wash and wax.

Oil line burst resulting in all the engine oil draining out of the engine.

Defective hose in the engine/oil system failed causing all of the oil in the cars engine to drain immediately. The vehicle was towed to my toyota dealer where they explained that some avalons have had this happen. Toyota acknowledges this but has not issued a recall. My car was under warranty and was fixed for free as it was covered. However, my driveway is loaded with all of the oil from my engine. If this happened on the road i would have lost the engine.

Intermittently, upon heavy acceleration exhaust emitsa hydrogen sulfide type (rotten egg) odor. Took to delivery dealer and tech could not duplicate &. Took car to another dealer.both dealers acknowledged that toyota was aware of problem. Both stated that toyota had replaced/repaired exhaust or catalytic converters. However subsequent to 2003 models toyota wouldno longer offer repairor solution for my 2007 model.service tech suggested using higher grade gasoline.i have used mid and premium grade gas with no change in result.

We have had three incidents in the past with our toyota avalon....all at traffic light approaches.the first resulted in our hitting the truck in front of us.there was no damage nor injuries so both parties left satisfied.the second occurred at a traffic light a few minutes later at which time my husband got the vehicle under control.the third occurred several weeks later near our home.my husbandmanaged to get thecar under control by swerving into a drive nearby by. It was at a traffic light also.thought it was my husbands driving (ha)) because he seems to be accelerating instead of braking but he was assuring me he was braking.*tw

On march 19, 2008, my step-son was killed in tampa, florida while driving his 2007 toyota avalon.he had just dropped my sister-in-law off at the airport and was travelling on the courtney campbell parkway when the car accelerated.he exited onto a service road, posted at 15 mph, at a high rate of speed, crashing through a guardrail and plunging into tampa bay.he did not get out of the vehicle.witnesses say he did not appear to brake before hitting the guardrail.nobody could determine at the time why the accident occurred; his toxicology report was clear.the car has long since been salvaged since toyota's unintednded acceleration issues were not public knowledge at the time two years ago.

- the contact owns a 2007 toyota avalonthe instruction manual of the car read- caution people with an implanted cardiac pacemaker or defibrillator should keep away from the smart key system because the radio waves may affect the operation of such devices.the contactsfather had one.he contacted toyota, and got technical details on the frequency of the system. He sent the information to his cardiologist, who contacted the manufacturer of the defibrillator, and he was advised not to let his father within 18 inches of the car. The contact questioned if he shouldkeep his father away from the car but what washis liability if someone walkedor parkednext to this car, and the person had an implanted pacemaker, and he died, what would behisliability on this problem.update 4/23/07

I can't get any information on the possible dangers of the smart key. The owner's manual of my 2007 toyota avalon warns that persons with implanted pacemakers or defibrillator should not go near the antennae on the smart key system. My 91-year-old dad has an implanted defibrillator. Is there any way to get in, start the car, and disable the smart key so he can then approach the car and get in? what is the radio frequency and effective radiated power of the system so i can pass the information along to his cardiologist? what is the liability if i have the car parked on a public street and someone with an implanted defibrillator or pacemaker should happen to walk past the car without knowing the danger? please help, as the dealer has not been able to find anything out about this. Also, the owner's manual warns about getting the smart key too close to electromagnetic devices such as credit cards and cell phones, cordless phone rechargers, fluorescent lights, etc. How can my wife carry the smart key in her purse with credit cards and cell phone? also, i store all my keys on hooks in a cabinet above the desk in our kitchen. I also store my cell phone there. On the underside of the shelf is a fluorescent light, and on the desk is a cordless phone recharger. Do i have to rearrange my life to avoid problems with the smart key? also, the owner's manual warns the smart key might not work near broadcast operations. Several times a week, i have to go to a cable television head end where there are 13 earth stations (satellite receive dishes) and innumerable transmit antennae on a 357-foot tower; in short, much more radio wave activity than would be present at a normal broadcast operation. I haven't taken the car there yet for fear of what might happen. Will i have to have it towed some distance away before the smart key technology will work?

-the contact owns a 2007 toyota avalon.ashes are being blown into the vehicle thru the vent whenever the air condition is on.the contact does not know what caused the failure. The vehicle is being taken to the dealer for diagnosis. The failure mileage was 26,000.

Faulty 3rd brake light ,this is a wide scope defect, lightworks sporadically, toyota charging 400 dollars to fix, hundreds of online complaints for this issue

The rear center brake light failed at approximately 90,000 miles and $450.00 dollars seems an exorbitant price for a repair. I see many more complaints about the same thing in various forums and on this site. Toyota should be making some kind of concession for owners with this problem. This can be a serious safety issue.

The contact owns a 2007 toyota avalon. The contact started the ignition, and made several attempts before the gear selector would shift into the "drive" position. The shifting failure occurred intermittently. In addition, the rear brake lights failed to illuminate. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the technician informed that the failure was contributed to the brake safety switch which was a common problem. The part was unavailable for the repair for a period of two weeks. The vehicle was repaired for the malfunction after the part became available. The failure mileage was approximately 40,300.updated 12/08/10. *ljupdated 12/08/10

The contact owns a 2007 toyota avalon. The contact stated that the low beam headlights flickered and shorted intermittently on numerous occasions. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer. The technician diagnosed that only the low beam bulbs needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to a second independent repair shop where it was diagnosed that the driver side headlight assembly needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 147,000.

100% of night time driving especially on country roads that are hilly we lose effective headlight performance (when going up a hill the headlights only project about 40 to 50 feet). This problem seems to be typical of the avalon limited from others having the same problem. We are scared to drive the car at night since going 55 mph we are covering 80 plus feet per second.

The contact owns a 2007 toyota avalon. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 50 mph, he noticed that the noise the turn signals made inside of the vehicle was too quiet. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealership where the contact was informed there was nothing they could do about the turn signals. The vehicle was not repaired at the time of the complaint and the failure continued. The failure mileage was approximately 200. The current mileage was approximately 44,000.

We own a 2007 toyota avalon limited.we have received recall notices on the floor mats, accelerator pedal and an oil supply hose.all are to be corrected next week.this complaint is for the purpose of letting you know that neither the accelerator pedal nor the floor map is the cause of sudden acceleration. I say this because my wife drives with hand controls with a steel plate guardingand protecting the accelerator from being used by her. Therefore it is not these items causing the sudden acceleration.we have had it happen on 3 or 4 different occasions so it was not isolated nor were these recall items at fault.please feel free to contact us for further info if needed.thanks.

I have a 2007 toyota avalon.on feb. 10, 2010 the gas pedal recall was fixed at the dealer.on march 9, 2010, the acceleration problem returned.the car went approximately 1/2mile without my foot on the gas pedal.turning into my driveway, the car accelerated on its own.

I received a mat recall letter from toyota for my 2007 avalon back in the fall.i still have not received a remedy notice to have it fixed at the local dealer.when i call the dealer, they bounce me to the toyota 800 number.why is it taking so long.i have to wonder if the cars at the toyota plants and on dealers' lot are being repaired first.i also have not received a recall letter for the sticking gas pedal.what can i do to get faster action before an accident happens?*tw

Service engine and many other trouble indicators at the same time.trouble found for $80.00 loose gas cap.day's latter found gas cap strap missing.return to dealer who said the strap is what cause the poor seal so the tech removed it (as this happens all the time).ask to purchase a replacement strap - not available.purchased new gas cap which comes with strap (a 2 cent item) cost $25.00.total cost for a known problem $100.toyota knows about the little problem for most or all of its vehicle and has done nothing to correct it.it is a money maker for the dealers who never suggest looking at you gas cap.they connect it to analyzer for $80.00. Remove the strap and send you on your way.shame shame shame.

I purchased a 007 toyota avalon limited in 11/2006 before a month passed i had to take it to the local dealership in visalia, ca.i told the shop manager the footpedal had gotten stuck and the car was wide open, i stomped on the gas pedal and it wouldn't come up, then i reached down and grabbed it and pulled it up, i told the shop manager if i had been in traffic or town there would have been injuries or death and this was a serious problem, they checked it out and told me i didn't know how to drive the car and it was ok.i was a mad customer, then i told him there was also a problem with the computer, the thing wouldn't idle down coming up to a stop sign , and if you put the car in neutral as you braking coming up to a stop it would almost put you through the window, and they needed to fix this , i got the same answer the car is ok. Well by then i really mad, but i also knew then they had no intention of fixing or acknowledging there was a problem, the car has 85k miles on it now and i'm on the 3rd set of tires, 2nd set of brakes, 2nd set of rotors, and had the front end aligned and new bolts installed in the front end so the camber could be adjusted, what a !@#$%, i have been asked to leave dealerships for raising !@#$% about this car, i've also said the paint on this car is junk to and they refuse to do anything about it.i have three years of diesel and gasoline mechanics, was the top of my class and sought after by many large corporations when i graduated in 1978, and i used to work at a chevy dealership as a line mechanic when i graduated.i can assure you toyota knew they had problems, and refused to do anything as far back as 2006, if i had the extra money or the time i would have sued them a long time ago, but they are so big as a company i probably didn't have a chance until now.i will bet you if you interview workers at the toyota plants where the cars were built you will find they have had gas pedals stick at the factory too.want to bet me?

2007 toyota avalon [xxx], 21,000 miles, this vehicle is equipped with the "smart key system". Parked vehicle at local walmart store locked doors with push button at exterior door handle, i had left the key fob in the vehicle! ! the doors should not lock in this situation, however they did!after shopping i returned to vehicle and tried several times to unlock doors, the doors did not unlock.had to have friend drive me home to pick up spare fob.the spare fob unlocked the doors.notified toyota dealer (nourse, chillicothe ohio) who advised me to go to local radio shack and purchase a new battery for the fob.i purchased and installed new battery and the fob begin to work again. I did not receive any warning that the battery needed changed! i could have been many miles from home when this happened, scary thought.i must say this is the only trouble i've had with is vehicle.

This vehicle has an automatic unlocking feature that is linked to the shift.whenever the vehicle is placed in "park, " all 4 doors automatically unlock.the routine in the owners manual to "cancel" this feature does not work.i tried it over 20 times, and took it to the dealer and a local automotive electronics shop - it is just not possible to stop the automatic unlocking.the problem is that this is a threat to safety in many parts of the country, in many kinds of locations.the motorist cannot choose whether to unlock his/her doors, even if a threat is present.this feature makes the motorist vulnerable to car jacking, robbery and many other kinds of crimes.

I reached down to the left and around the steering wheel and activated a switch. Instead of the rear sunshade switch, i inadvertently activated the trunk release and then the gas tank door release.both the trunk opened and the gas tank door opened while the vehicle was in motion (the transmission was in drive of course).to me this is a major safety hazard, not to mention an annoyance.are these switches functioning properly, that is are they designed to permit activation when the vehicle is in gear?other vehicles that i have owned or rented lock these mechanisms from opening the trunk lid release when the vehicle is not in neutral or park. Took2007 toyota avalon operate in the same safe manner as i indicate for other vehicles , such as lock out the switches unless the vehicle is in park or neutral?

Idler bearing froze which took out serpentine belt.lost power steering and cooling and electric.this is the second one i have replaced this year both being oem parts.

2007 toyota avalon with a gear shifting problem. Consumer states that when the gear is changing it feels like it is getting stuck and then bumps real hard when it switches to the right gear.the consumer also stated when she slows down, the change in the gear is rough and loud.

The contact owns a 2007 toyota avalon. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 5 mph, the transmission failed to shift properly. In addition, when coming to a stop, the transmission downshifted violently with a loud bang. The failure recurred whenever the vehicle was in operation. In 2015, the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the engine mounts were replaced however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, who was unable to locate a failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 7,000.

The contact owns a 2007 toyota avalon. While driving approximately 30 mph, there was a loud noise coming from the undercarriage of the vehicle. The contact looked in the rearview mirror and noticed parts detaching from the vehicle. The contact merged over and retrieved the parts that were from the transmission. The vehicle was driven home very slowly. When parked, the vehicle would not shift into reverse. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the transmission failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. Repetitive...every time i drive.............................toyota avalon 2007...i complained to toyota that when i remove my foot from the accelerator / gas pedal to coast to a stop, the car in fact accelerates at almost eachshift point, thus forcing me to apply the brakes repetitively.this may cause premature brake wear. Toyota says this "acceleration at every shift point" is normal despite the fact that in hundreds of thousands of miles and in hundreds of cars owned and rented, i have never experienced this behavior in any vehicle.yes, no doubt a software/programmer controlledmicro-processor.

The contact owns a 2007 toyota avalon. The contact stated that while driving approximately 55 mph, the transmission shifted into neutral independently with extreme hesitation. The failure recurred on numerous occasions. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where the transmission was to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 90,000.

I was stopped at a traffic light right off a highway exit on a busy mall road. When the light changed and i tried to press the gas pedal the car would not move. Engine was running, everything was working perfectly but car would not move. I tried to turn off and restart several times to no avail. Attempted to shift into neutral or any other gear and although shift moved car still would not respond. Car could not even be pushed off of road in neutral. The car was towed to a mechanic and sat for a couple of days. When the mechanic turned the car on it presented no issues, ran perfectly fine and no signs of problems on diagnostic computer. The car ran perfectly for another week or so until my father was driving on highway and all of a sudden could feel that car was just rolling, and the power was gone. He was coasting in high speed lane of interstate. Luckily he pulled to safety. When car was towed to same mechanic it was clear the transmission was gone and needed to be replaced. With no warnings this meticulously maintained car just gave out and put myself and my father in very dangerous situations where we could have been hit by other cars. I have read many similar stories online from toyota owners with cars built within same timeframes who have had their transmission give out, or cause problems on the road as well. Toyota refuses to acknowledge there is a defect in their products and has only responded that the car is out of warranty and we were responsible for all costs.

Transmission shifting uneven and some time it stays in one particular gear even brake is applied. Car doesn't not stop even while applied brake.i have to put my car in park p mode while it is running on the road to stop my vehicle.since even i apply brake it does not want to stop.

I have experienced on several occasions the transmission slipping so that when i accelerate the car does not move, then suddenly jerks real hard.this has left me in the middle of the street and almost caused several accidents.it has become progressively7 worse.now it is becoming a safety problem in that the car could suddenly fail to move once you get in the middle of a cross road then suddenly drive off.

Toyota 2007 avalon xls, 24k mi[xxx] accelerator repaired under recall on 2/16/2010incident of unintended full throttle accelerationconditions: temp 61 degrees f, clear weather, relative humidity approx 50%, a/c not on, radio not on, cruise control on but not engaged, daytime running lights on.situation: at 55 mph, throttle was depressed to approx 1/2 to accelerate to pass on a two-lane highway.car accelerated normally to about 65 mph at which point the accelerator went to the floor, uncommanded.once clear of the passed vehicle, i shifted into neutral and turned off the engine and coasted to a somewhat safe location to stop.the accelerator was still locked down.with the ignition off, i was able to reposition the accelerator to the normal position after shifting the car from 'park' to 'neutral' several times.then i continued the trip.wife in the right seat was petrified.later, at a better location on a divided highway with a 70 mph speed limit, i set up the same conditions as previously described.after accelerating from 60 mph to about 68 mph with a half-throttle command, the unintended acceleration to full throttle happened again.this time i turned off the cruise controland then attempted, unsuccessfully, to pull the accelerator off the floor with the edge of my shoe which did not terminate the acceleration.at about 80 mph i went through the shut-down procedure again without further incident.my wife is the principle driver of the car, but i will always do all the driving on long trips and have put the car in a similar passing situations several times without previous acceleration problems.i am an combat tested ex-fighter pilot and test pilot with several thousand hours in high performance fighters and thoroughly understand physics.these incidents presented no danger to me or my white-knuckled wife but in less than ideal circumstances with less experienced drivers in control, the outcome could have been different.

I own a 2007 toyota avalon.the transmission has a problem.when coasting down without accelerator being engage the transmission down shifts at 30 mph but the car speeds up.it is only 4-5 mph and after a few seconds then starts coasting down again.this problem has been investigated by the dealer and "there is nothing wrong".it has been reported to the toyota technical service manager and "there is nothing wrong".it has been reported to toyota customer service and we will get back to you but nothing happened.this car had the "stuck accelerator" problem two years ago and it was reported to the dealer and "no problem".the "stuck accelerator" only happened once and was not the problem of a floor mat.the car has had all the recalls performed on it but still has the speed up problem at each down shift.

The contact owns a 2007 toyota avalon.while slowing down from 35 mph, the transmission races but the vehicle fails to move.the vehicle lunges forward after stopping at intersections.the contact stated that the vehicle was unstable.the purchase date and powertrain were unknown.the current mileage is 2,000 and failure mileage was 9.

Car has developed a shudder when shifting, at times it is very severe on one episode while passing at highway speeds car began to vibrate so violently that control of the care was lost until vibration subsided. This vehicle has 38,000 miles on it and has had the shudder for about 10,000 miles, there have been two of the violent episodes, in the last 10,000 miles, have taken car to dealership 3 times for the shudder.this vehicle is under factory warranty dealer has reprogrammed the transmission computer, has had no effect on shudder and the violent episodes took place after the reprogramming of the computer.

The contact owns a 2007 toyota avalon.the contact stated that when the vehicle is shut off, there is no way to determine if the vehicle is in park due to the keyless entry.she is able to exit the vehicle with the gear shift indicator in the drive position.this failure has caused the vehicle to roll away after she exits.the dealer stated that the failure was dangerous and was unable to perform the repair because the vehicle was designed in that manner.the manufacturer also stated that there was nothing they could do about the design.the current mileage is 3,993 and failure mileage was 500.

The contact owns a 2007 toyota avalon.the contact stated that while braking to a complete stop, he was able to remove the key from the ignition switch while the vehicle was still in drive. As a result, the vehicle began to roll backward. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnosis or repairs. The manufacturer was contacted. The failure mileage was 30,000.updated01/09/14*lj

Bolts securing driveshaft sheared off, with bolt pieces shooting into the engine and into the engine cover. It caused the engine to fail by bending the piston parts.

Driver seat rear driver side leg failed and cracked making seat separate from the rail and chair. Drivers seats rocks loosely. Other 3 legs functions properly but if you are rear ended then the seat would lunge forward towards steering wheel. No insurance review brought it to a welding shop to spot weld and rebrace the leg.

The vehicle speeds up when it want to on it own. The steering column falls all the time. The passaenger seat wont recline at all but will lean back

While driving toward a stop sign, attempted to apply the brakes. The brake pedal went very low to the floor, car slowed down, but did not stop. Loud abnormal grinding sounds could be heard and locking of all brakes were felt. I moved the gear from drive to neutral to park, because the car would not stop by use of brakes. If i were on a major road, i would have crashed into someone, or been rear ended.

Was driving downhill, it felt like it started going faster even though the brake was pressed.brakes seem not to respond & speed kept on increasing. Unable to stop it crashed into a wall, went throw down hill inside the property & end up inside a pool.3 people were injure, one adult, 2 children.adult has broken bones.

I pressed brake pedal as i was about to exit a driveway and the car continued to roll into the roadway.to avoid a speeding pickup truck in the second lane that did not appear to slow down, i accelerated across the two lane roadway and was able to stop on the other side. The brakes appeared to work normally after that and i was able to drive approximately 5 miles and leave the car at the toyota dealer. The front brakes had just been replaced two weeks earlier.the dealer checked the brake system mechanically and hydraulically and found no problem. They road tested the vehicle and kept it for a second day and found the brakes to work properly after road testing it extensively.since no problem was identified, this leaves me very uneasy about continued use of the vehicle.

The brake pedal depresses to the floor when the brake pedal is pressed whether the vehicle is in motion or stopped.when stopping in an emergency the car does not stop quickly as it should.

I have to apply the parking brake at all time no matter what position the car is in at that time. If not, the car would make a movement to where it acts like it want to jump out of the gear that the car is position in. Even if the car is in position park position if the brake is not applied the car would make a hard movement like it want to keep moving. When the parking brake is applied and the automatic transmission is still in the drive or reverse position and the stationary pto switch is engaged by the operator, the engine may rev and overcome the parking brake's ability to keep the vehicle from moving. Unexpected vehicle movement can increase the risk of a crash or injury.

My paid cash for this toyota avalon $5000 worth $2200 the car has 6 recalls none of which were ever investigated by toyota or anyone else. I first got the car started driving and the belt started smoking before 3 yrs the battery was changed out by advanced auto free / we paid for a new belt then the tire went out 2 x found out theirs a wheel alignment issue with the arms that need replacing toy dealer and american best recommended new arms amer best priced $800 toy dealer priced $3-5k among brakes wipers suspension etc ! toy should be liable to fix the car parts as i went there for help instead they send an est for thousands to fix when there are 6 recalls remaining ! i was in an accident 10/30 someone hit me while driving from behind . The car i believe was in an accident prior to ownership. Everything i mentioned is hazardous and unsafe for manufacturers to continue to build unsafe cars on the road!

The brake pedal sinks slowly to the floor when stopped, for example at a traffic light.the brakes will still hold the car even with the pedal at the bottom travel limit, but it's a disconcerting feeling to press on the brake and feel the pedal slowing sinking.it sinks fully to the bottom limit in about 10 seconds with moderate pressure on the pedal.the local toyota dealer said this is a normal condition and did nothing to correct the problem.that dealer is rated d - for customer service by the bbb so i took it to another toyota dealer.they said it was normal, and they compared it to another avalon which did the same thing, so they also refused to do anything about it.the problem was noticed earlier but it was not very obvious, not it seems to have gotten worse, perhaps due to the very hot weather.the two toyota dealers, and the toyota corporate hq in torrence have all refused to tell me what is the allowable brake pedal fade rate; i maintain that 5 to 10 seconds must exceed some nominal and acceptable amount.

In my opinion and based on my recent interaction with toyota, they are not being honest about their safety issues with public. Two weeks ago, i took my toyota avalon 2007 with only 33452 miles to bob smith toyota because break fluid was leaking out from break master cylinder. They told me the car is not safe to drive and master cylinder needs to be replaced. I left the car to be repaired.i did some research on line and notice that toyota has a recall for 2005 and 2006 avalon for the same exact issues http://www.toyota.com/recall/avalon-highlander.html.further research and based on data from dealership, toyota avalon made prior to 7/2007, use the same break master cylinder as the ones being recalled, part #id # 47028-0710. When i asked toyota dealer about this, they told me that toyota has only recalled 2005 and 2006 and can not offer any evidence that part used in 2007 was any different. They suggested that i contact toyota which i did. In return, they told me to contact the dealership. After multiple follow up, which i have documented and will be more than happy to forward to you, no one is giving me any evidence that master cylinder in avalons build before 7/2007, are any different than the ones they recalled. The car was in their shop for 12 days, i just paid for repair and asked for the old part. However, if it is the case that toyota has decided to do ignore this issues with 2007 avalon, they are putting a lot of lives at risk.i am asking for your assistance to get to the bottom of this, not because of me but all the other families driving a car which has faulty break system. I am hesitating to paste all my correspondents with toyota in here because of personal information but will be more than happy to forward them to you.

The brake pedal sinks slowly all the way to the floor when stopped with pressure applied to the brake pedal, that is a very disconcerting feeling when the brake pedal sinks slowly to the floor; it actually stops only at the bottom mechanical stop for the pedal.the vehicle has been to three local toyota dealers, and the complaint has been filed with toyota usa and toyota japan.the local dealers say it is a normal condition, that's preposterous.this is a known problem with the toyota avalon and camry around the 2007 production year.subject vehicle is still under manufacturers warranty.the problem is believed to be an internal leak in the anti-skid system.the local toyota dealers will not make the needed repairs.i requested that toyota usa service reps inspect my car on their next visit to this area, and that request was refused by findlay toyota of henderson.i filed a previous complaint on 7/6/2010 and no reply has been received to date.i suspect that no action was taken.the problem exists to this date, and this is a formal request for the nhtsa to investigate the antiskid system on my vehicle.

The contact owned a 2007 toyota avalon. The contact statedwhile braking from approximate speeds of 50 mph, the brakes failed. The contact crashed into the rear of a vehicle ahead of him causing that vehicle to crash into a vehicle ahead of it. There were no injuries. A police report was available. The vehicle was towed to a local dealer where repairs were made to the body damage and the brakes. The contact was no longer in possession of the vehicle. The failure and current mileages were approximately 20,000.

During normal driving conditions, dry pavement normal traffic conditions,at approx 45 mph. With accelerator pedal depressed and maintaining45 mph the brakes suddenly and violently applied.i do not know if it was front rear or perhaps both.brake pedal was at no time depressed, braking was severe enough to cause the seat beat to lock uprestraining driver.abs warning light was on ( possibly being on prior to sudden braking but was not noticed if it indeed was).. Sudden braking lasted only for maybe a second or two then ceased and abs warning light went offwith apparent normal braking operation returning for remainder of short trip....condition, thus far has occurred only one time.

The front left side of the brake caliper of my 3.5 years old toyota avalon fall-off yesterday afternoon (june 8th, 2011).

The contact owns a 2007 toyota avalon xl7.while driving about 65 mph on a rainy night the vehicle accelerated up to 90 mph. When he applied the brakes and the vehicle continued to spin out of control and crashed into a guard rail. The failure mileage was 55,000 and the current mileage was 62,000. The vehicle has been repaired by a mechanic. The contact was unable to provide the vin.

I am used to the brakes and do not believe they will actually fail me.my wife, when she drives the car (she owns a 2002 santa fe) complains that the brakes sink all the way to the floor.i grant that the pedal travel feels more than any other car i have ever driven (more than 30 models over the years).i, being very concerned about brakes, brought the car to toyota who checked the brakes, adjusted something but did not resolve the pedal travel.the pedal travel remained the same, almost reaching the floor.i was told that the brakes were normal for the car.

I was approximately 2 1/2 cars length apart from the car in front of me.when i saw the traffic light begin to change from yellow to red, i quickly put on my brakes, but the car did not slow down or stop; it accelerated instead.i kept my foot all the way on the brakepedal, but the car still did not slow down or stop. I brace myself for the impact because iknew that it was unavoidable to hit the car in front of me.it finally stopped when it struck the car in front of me.

The contact owns a 2007 toyota avalon. The contact was driving approximately 45 mph and approaching a traffic stop when he engaged the brakes and heard an abnormal squeaking noise. The contact stated he thought the noise was from the tires and all four tires were replaced. The noise persisted. The vehicle was taken back to the tire company and they advised the contact that the noise was from the brakes. The failure mileage was unknown and the current mileage was 52,000.updated 01/13/11*ljthe consumer stated once the rear brakes were replaced, the noise stopped. Updated 01/25/11

Avalon 2007 xls the accelerator pedal is a problem.when i park to the garage, i could not stop the car. The brake did not work. The gas pedal was hard, no control .i hit to the garage wall.my front bumper was broken after the hit.the hit impact caused a big shake on my 2 babies ( both under 2 .5 year old).

The contact owns a 2007 toyota avalon. While the contact was driving 30 mph he applied the brakes and the vehicle began to slide causing the vehicle to crash into a curb. No one was injured and the vehicle has not been diagnosed by the dealership. There were no prior warnings. The current and failure mileages were 30,000.

Idler bearing froze which took out serpentine belt.lost power steering and cooling and electric.this is the second one i have replaced this year both being oem parts.

The vehicle speeds up when it want to on it own. The steering column falls all the time. The passaenger seat wont recline at all but will lean back

The contact owns a 2007 toyota avalon. Whenever the contact drove at various speeds including 25 mph, he noticed that the steering wheel suddenly fell backwards into the base of the steering column. The dealer stated that the failure could not be reproduced. The current and failure mileages were 52048.updated 03/04/10. *lj

When turning the steering wheel i hear this noise like there is something loose in the steering plus i was told that my tension rod needs to be replace at a cost of $1,500.00 my car is only 4 tears old there is no way my tension rod should need to be replace, i have talked to a lot of people and was told that it sounds like a defect in the steering and the tension rod.

The contact owns a 2007 toyota avalon.while driving approximately 25 mph on normal road conditions, the vehicle and steering wheel vibrated excessively when the brake pedal was depressed.the vehicle began pulling to the left and right intermittently without assistance.there were no warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel.the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for inspection and repaired.on four separate occasions, the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for identical failures without any resolutions.the vehicle has not been repaired again.the failure mileage was 500 and current mileage was 19,288.updated 01/06/09.*ljupdated 01/06/09.

At 7 years old, my toyota avalon is leaking from the body of the rack and pinion gear.dealer service states that 'this happens'.concerned that leak may cause loss of power steering while driving causing driver to over or understeer the vehicle.could be considered for a possible safety issue.

Steering placement lock came loose while driving and steering column dropped to lowest level.this has happened 3 other times in city traffic. Trying to tighten the steering placement friction lock only seems to hold temporarily.

Steering wheel telescoping lever comes loose often. The lever comes loose about every 500 miles .i have resorted to making sure it it tight every time i get in the car.

The contact owns a 2007 toyota avalon. The steering wheel telescopic release lever lock had a loose bolt causing the steering wheel to drop in his lap while driving. The lever lock was not secure enough to hold the steering wheel in place.the vehicle was not taken to the dealer nor was the manufacturer called. The failure mileage was 68,000.

The contact owns a 2007 toyota avalon. The contact stated that during a routine maintenance check, the technician stated that the rack and pinion needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 70,000.

Dash just started cracking and melting for no reason.this car is garage kept.it is in perfect shape except for dashboard which will only get worse.contacted toyota and they said they could not help me since their is no recall on this vehicle.

Car had water leak that was improperly corrected in aug 2007. In apr 2008 really bad leak same place. Soaked carpet and has left very strong mildew-moldy odor in all interior parts, mats and trunk area.dealer replaced carpet and detailed mats.car still smells strongly of mold & mildew.dealer says car is fine.

Cracks in dashboard started appearing. First small, then extending all the way across the dash. Now multiple cracks in dash, airbag cover, glove box surround. Dash started getting sticky. I spoke to the assistant service manager where i bought the car in october 2006. Since it's out of warranty and there is no service bulletin or recall, they won't help. Estimated $2100 to repair/replace. Said replacement would be original factory material, so i would expect it to be defective as well. He said they see at least 2 cars a week with this problem. Called the manufacturer 800 number. They said due to the expense, out of warranty, no service bulletin or recall, they would not help. Said the only thing i could do was report it, and that the manager reviews all complaints. This was a $35,000 car which now has 68,000 miles and it has lost thousands of dollars in resale value. I've had cars last 20 years without any cracks in the dash, and certainly the tackiness/stickiness is not natural. I worry that it might emit some toxic fumes in the summer.

Dashboard is cracking around the airbag area.

Crack observed in panel where airbag for the passenger is located, the panel is above the glove compartment.

Cracks on the dashboard began two years ago and have gradually spread to include areas of the dashboard airbags.

The dashboard on my car is cracked, pealing, sticky, melting.i went to west kendal toyota and showed them the problem.they contacted the toyota representative[xxx]miami, florida and was told that they would do nothing about it; that it is my problem.this is a serious manufacturing defect which may be the cause of very serious damage and possible accidents.their argument is that the car is out of warranty and so is no longer their responsibility.this is nonsense.they made the car with this inherent defect (which they seem to acknowledge) and are saying they are not responsible for the defect that they are responsible for creating.needless to say it has been frustrating trying to deal with them.they believe they are so powerful and i am so helpless that they need do nothing to remedy a problem they caused, they recognized, and that they are completely unwilling to correct.with their powerful attorneys they seem to think they can get away with anything they please!is this true?information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

My 2007 toyota avalon dashboard began cracking ~ 2 years ago. My car is low mileage and has always been garaged kept.the cracking has gotten progressively worse.there are numerous internet comments about this defect, but toyota is stonewalling us customers.i would request that you all look into this issue.melting and cracked dashboards in various toyota vehicles could cause safety issues.for background info, just search the web.when we called to complain to toyota about the safety implications and reduction in car value, they acted like we were the 1st people to complain about this issue.unless you all act, toyota is just going to blow us off.please help.

My dashboard is melting and peeling. I am previous owner of a toyota that i owned for 16 years and never experienced this issue. Also my airbag light is coming on.

Multiple cracks and fissures in passenger side air bag plastic cover plate that can break or snap in an accident and could cause injury to face.

Sticky, cracked, and shiny dashboard causes glare on windshield.

It was daylight at approximately 3 pm local time. We were on good interstate road with moderate traffic and dry payment. We were on i-65 about 10 miles southof franklin, tn. My wife and i were the only passengers in our vehicle and we were both wearing seat belts. We are the original vehicle owner and the vehicle has been well maintained. We were not impaired and had stopped for a rest break and a driver change 15 minutes earlier. She was driving, i was in the front passenger seat. We were in the left lane. The driver immediately in front us in the right lane suddenly swerved into our lane for reasons unknown. We had traffic to our immediate right so the only place available for my wife to avoid was the left edge of the highway which is where she went. The left shoulder was rough due to recent construction in the area. She lost control and we spun out in the grassy medium without hitting anything. She was unhurt. My right clavicle was broken in two places with the two breaks the width of the shoulder belt apart which is assumed to be the proximate cause of the break. I was evacuated by ambulance to the nearest trauma center and had surgery two weeks later to repair my clavicle. It took surgery, the largest clavicle plate they make, and 10 screws to put my shoulder back together. Our air bags did not fire. Our seat belt pre-tensioners did not fire. The other vehicle fled the scene. Our car was repaired at a state farm certified repair center.

The dashboard cracked very closed to the passenger bag in the driver's side.

The dashboard on my 07 toyota avalon has become sticky, all cracked up andemittes a sticky chemical that creates a blinding glare during daytime hrs. Especially when its sunny outside! i went to my local dealer and without even looking at the car he said that his dealership would split the cost with me of about $800 each to replace the dashboard. He said that toyota has been aware of the problem for some time but refuses to acknoledge that the subcontract that made the dashboards used a faulty material and since the warranty has expired, they were not willing to do anything about it. I bought the top of the line avalon with all the bells and whistles new, garage kept it, washed and waxed it myself and now this. I always thought that toyota was a reliable company and would stand behind their products, but found out just the opposite. Not only the avalon but the camry, corolla and the lexus 350 which is made by toyota. I have searched the web extensively and there seems to be no 'one' answer. Some dealers are replacing the dash, some are offering to cover materials and some only offering 20% discounts. Can you contact me or refer me to the proper department to submit a claim for a replacement. As this is clearly a toyota 'product related' problem, i would expect that toyota would have a resolution to fix/replace the dash as needed! since i'm retired and on a fixed income, paying out of pocket for toyotas faulty, dangerous material is not an option,i'll make sure that anyone that i know, and with all the associations that i belong to there are plenty of people, know that toyota has dropped the ball on this one! this has become a very serious safety hazard with all the glare that it's causing. Toyota had better hope that neither my wife or i have a serious car accident due to their mishandeling of all the complaints and turning a deaf ear to the loyal toyota owners!

The contact owns a 2007 toyota avalon. The contact stated that the front drivers seat leaned to the left and the hinge fell off. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated that the housing for the seat broke in four different places. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure was not reported to toyota. The vin was not included. The failure and current mileage was 90,000.

The contact owns a 2007 toyota avalon.the contact stated that there is spots in the paint on the hood and trunk of the vehicle.the dealer has inspected the vehicle on four occasions.the failure and current mileages were not available.

Unexplained cracks in a number of areas of dashboard, which has been polished and maintained regularly. Have had toyota avalons before, 2000, 2005, and toyota cars since 1973 (corona, camry etc.) but have never experienced this type damage. Told dealership. They say not under warranty. Told it will cost $5,00 to repair do i have a any ground?

Collision with another vehicle while making a left turn.driver's upper and lower (knee) airbags deployed.driver incurred severe cuts to both legs below the knee approximately half way down to ankle.cause of injuries has not been determined but inspection of vehicle disclosed that the knee airbag containment compartment in the low part of the dash has a flap/door that opens in deployment, is very extremely sharp and may have been the source of the injuries.

On or about may, 2012, my wife and i started to notice small cracks all over the dashboard! then within a couple of months the entre dashboard looked as itwere melting and i couldn't figure out why since the car has been garage kept since the day i bought it. Then the melting turned into a sheen, making it impossible to see without squinting and wearing sun glasses and putting the sun visors down so i waited a while and saw on the internet that it was a very serious problem so on 9-5-13 i called toyotas hotline and was given a complaint number ([xxx]) and told the they would not do anything since the car was out of warranty. I explained the it was a serious safety problem and still nothing!i also went to lipton toyota on 8-20-13 and spoke to the service director, [xxx], and explained the problem to him and he also took pictures to show to his representative. He called me back a couple of days later and told me that his boss wanted nothing to do with it but that he would split the cost with me and replace the dash board for $900 out of my pocket. I told him that the offer was outrageous, i explained that if it were my fault 100% i would pay the &1,800, if it were 50% my fault i would pay the $900, but since it was toyota's fault 100% they should replace the dashboard at their expense. He told me forget it! ([xxx] phone # is 954-735-1330 ext [xxx]) the location of the dealership is 1700 w. Oakland park blvd. Ft. Rear window shade went up and now won't go down. I took the car to the dealer a few months ago and they were able to put it down.when they told me the cost of repairing/replacing, i opted to just not use it. A few weeks ago, it went up again and iam not able to see anything at night, took to the dealer again to see if they could put it down again and i was told i need to change the motor ( almost $1000) so i was not able to do it. I told them i cant see at night and they didn't do anything about it. I feel they need to take a look at this issue because it is a safety issue not being able to see your rear window.

As i was wiping down my dashboard i noticed a fine hairline crack about an inch long.within a week it grew another 2 inches.now approximately two months since i noticed the first crack i have another crack in a different spot.this crack is about an inch and a half long.both are in the area of the air back.my car is in perfect condition as i have always done the recommended maintenance and i keep my car parked in a garage at home and at work. I am extremely disappointed that my top of the line avalon is turning to crap!

The dashboard has developed several cracks all across it. And the tape between the windshield and dashboard has also come loose and is peeling away from the interior base of the glass. At the time i made a complaint to the dealer but they told me to call toyota because i would have to pay for fixing it myself as they could do nothing.

On 3/3/07 my wife and i purchased a new 2007 toyota avalon limited.on may 9 my wife noted a noise coming from the front of the car.she took it to the dealer, who stated they fixed the car, and she pick the car up on may 14.the next day, she noticed that the car was making the same noise as before, and took the car right back to the dealer.the dealer had the car until may 26.during that time, welding was performed on the frame, which made the noise worse.the dealer ultimately decided to give us a 2nd toyota avalon, which we picked up on may 26, 2007.in november 2007, my wife began to notice a noise coming from the front of the 2nd vehicle.it sounded like the same noise from the 1st vehicle.she took the car to the dealer on december 13, and they supposedly fixed the problem.when my wife was driving home, the noise began again.the problem was not fixed.she called the dealer to inform them of the problem.with the holidays and other things coming up at work (she cannot keep taking time off to run to the dealer all the time), she was not able to take the car back right away (there was only around 6300 miles on the car).by the time she was able to take the car back on march 24, 2008, the problem had gotten worse.there was less than 9000 miles on the car. She took the vehicle back and they determined they needed to take out the engine and transmission and have some welding work done around the firewall.as of today, april 7, my wife still does not have her car.we believe the problem from both cars is the same, and there may be a defect in this car.we found a tsb on this car from feb. 2003 (exterior bulletin #122), which refers to all toyota/lexus, that states that welding should not be done on the car, and is not approved by toyota or lexus.we believe this problem can compromise the structural integrity of the car, and we will feel concerned for our safety if we get this car back.this is a problem that we feel needs to be addressed.

Takata recall.the panels are all cracking around the dashboard and around where the airbags are located.it is not driven often and is garage kept and stationary most of the time.the cracks are spreading and getting worse over entire dashboard.

In june of 2007 we purchased a new toyota avalon.within 2 weeks we noticedit pulling intermittently to the right and left on the open road and when braking.at times it would jerk wildly to the right, left, right or opposite when braking and it has a tendency to climb uphill against the slant of the open road.the situation is worse in cold weather.we had the car aligned numerous times, rotated the tires, checked the pressures, all with no improvement.we took it to a local toyota dealer and had it serviced 3 times (with toyota corp. That the car is reacting to "road crown" conditions and that they were unable to duplicate the problem.toyota instructed us to pursue the problem with the national center for dispute settlement.the determination was "the customer failed to prove the conditions present are due to a manufacturing defect in material or workmanship". We have since taken the car to another toyota dealer in our area and the service manager was able to duplicate the problem and agrees that the situation exists as we've described.he contacted toyota corporate and the reply as stated on the service report is"toyota says no fix for concern normal condition for nature of vehicle".we have driven other avalons and know people who own them and are not aware of any others with this problem.our first concern is that there may be a safety issue with our car.in addition, we feel that for the price paid we should be able to enjoy driving it and not be constantly fighting the car.we would like the car to be competently repaired and reimbursement for 4 tires.

Two years ago a large crack appeared on the panel below the dash on the passengers side.two months ago about 3 more cracks appeared.this week (8/4/13 thru 8/12/13) 3 more cracks appeared plus a new crack has now appeared on the dash above the multi cracked panel.i now have 35,000 miles on my 2007 toyota avalon.

I own a 2007 avalon. We recently had a light snowfall of two inches. Upon turning into my dead-end street (a very slight decline),i heard a beep. After that,i had no control of the vehicle and it coasted down the street, past the left-hand turn i needed to make and came to rest on the road. Thankfully, this was a small dead-end street,i was going slowly prior to losing power (5-10 mph),and there were no other vehicles near me.if not,i easily could've caused an accident. After coasting to a stop,i tried to go in reverse (slight incline) to get back to the turn i needed to make. However, the accelerator was unresponsive when i tried to do so and the traction control light was on. After several attempts,i decided to go forward and make a u-turn in order to get back to the street in which i needed to turn. I was able to go forward and turn around but after doing so,again the accelerator was unresponsive (facing very slightly uphill now). After trying the accelerator several times,i shut the vehicle off and restarted it but the accelerator remained unresponsive. I then put the car in "drive 2" and was able to inch my way up slowly to the (now) right-hand turn i needed to take. Upon making the turn onto the level street, power returned to my vehicle and i was able to get to my house.after the incident,i took the vehicle into northway toyota (place of purchase) and had them check it out. They said the traction control system was working as it should and that there was no way for me to shut it off. I also asked them to check the tire tread thinking that this may have led to the problem and that snow tires would possibly help the situation. The service dept. Told me that there was approximately 50% tread life left in the tires (the car has approximately 23,000 miles on it) and that the tires i had should be fine and snow tires wouldn't be helpful.this incident could obviously be very dangerous should it occur again. Please look into this and come up with a solution.

Sun roof glass blew up and shattered while i was driving on the interstate

2011: i noticed the dash felt soft, not sticky exactly, but for lack of a better word, pliable. 2013: while driving on vacation i realized my visibility was tremendously impeded by the incredibly opaque glare in my windshield from the dashboard. It was so bad, i realized i could make out the patterned imprint (designed to resemble leather grain). There is nothing that can be done to reduce this glare as long as the sun is out. It seriously impairs my ability to see clearly, is obviously distracting, and added to my fatigue on the trip. A safety issue if there ever was one causing driver impairment due to eye strain adding to driver fatigue. 2015: i noticed my first crack in the dash on the passenger side near the airbag. Within a month, i found another crack in the center of the dash. This is a garage kept second car, used for long trip comfort and sunday drives. 2016: called toyota about progressing cracks in dash. I was told there was a recall but it had ended 2 months earlier. Sorry but there was nothing they could do. 2020: i am waiting for pieces of my dash to fall off. My latest crack follows the instrument cockpit top edge completely across to the driver's door curve. It just split apart. This is my babied and protected car, 2007 avalon xls with 64,000 original miles on it. My family and i have owned toyotas since the early 80's; corolla, tercel, celica, camry, rav4, avalon. Not one of them ever had a dash problem. In looking at complaints here the majority of them are about the dash. Toyota should step up. Who gets to decide that one safety issue is worth a recall but another isn't? the glare is so bad that, more than once, i have been nervous about not being able to see brake lights while on the interstate. Is it fair that the only safe way to operate my toyota is on a cloudy day or at night? i hope eventually enough complaints like this will help.

This is a second complaint about my toyota avalon dashbaord.i sent a complaint to you all in jan of 2014 on this issue.here is my original submission: 'my 2007 toyota avalon dashboard began cracking several years ago. My car is low mileage and has always been garage kepted. The cracking has gotten progressively worse. There are numerous internet comments about this defect, but toyota is stonewalling us customers. I would request that you all look into this issue. Melting and cracked dashboards in various toyota vehicles could cause safety issues. For background info, just search the web. When we called to complain to toyota about the safety implications and reduction in car value, they acted like we were the 1st people to complain about this issue. Unless you all act, toyota is just going to blow us off. Please help."toyota has offered to replace the badly cracked dashboard, but that has dragged on for over a year.when we call the dealership to check on the status, they have the same reply each time, "we don't have the dash, and we don't know when we will get it".unless toyota can prove to you all that the badly cracked dash is not a safety issue, i maintain that is is.please investigate this potential safety issue, and hold toyota's feet to the fire to get the dash board replaced.it has been way too long on getting toyota to do the right thing.

2007 toyota avalon. Consumer would like more information concerning recalls. *tgwthe consumer is afraid to drive the vehicle, due to the recall.

Dashboard and panel have melted and cracked, creating a glare from the shiny and sticky surface. This is making the vehicle dangerous to drive. This has also created a concern not only for the glare, but for the chemical elements this has dispersed into the vehicle.i called toyota in '18, but was told vehicle is no longer under warranty. I would not consider this a warranty problem, but a problem that should be addressed with a recall. I have never received any notice regarding this deterioration condition.vehicle is not safe to drive or ride in.first noticed this in late '12 and this has gotten much, much worse even though is it garaged themajority of the time.

The rear sunshade went up on it's own when i started my car and now it will not go down.my car makes a loud grinding noise when put in reverse.this seems to be a common problem for many years with the toyota avalon limited with many complaints on line.it is a safety hazard when backing up or driving at night.this is not an easy fix and typically costs well over $1,000 to repair.

Tire pressure monitoring system have never worked properly. Continually has faults and errors. Local tire installation companies cannot input id's and reset system

Re: toyota avalon as per my conversation with toyota, my car has had involuntary acceleration since the day we leased it. Each time i was told no problem could be found. It is not a case of the pedal sticking because the car has jumped many times when i was not pressing the pedal at all. Therefore, i do not have confidence that the proposed fix will solve my problem.

The contact owns a 2007 toyota avalon. The vehicle was previously repaired for the vehicle speed control accelerator pedal recall. While driving approximately 40 mph the vehicle lungedforward. The brakes were applied but the brake pedal became very stiff and failed to stop until it crashed into another vehicle. A police report was filed. The driver was not injured. The vehicle was destroyed and towed to a junk lot. The vehicle was not examined to determine the cause of failure. The failure and current mileages were 38,000. The vin was unavailable.

I was drivingmy 2007 toyota avalon on route 80- east in new jerseytowards new york at highway speed approximately 65 to 70 mph. The car abruptly lurched forward and accelerated for a few seconds. I did not react except to press on the brakes. Fortunately there was light traffic at the time. I reported this to toyota and was given a case number 1001134776.i returned the car to my local dealer and was given a temporary replacement vehicle.

2007 toyota avalon- rapid acceleration problem. When we first got the new car and were using the cruise control, it shifted down on a hill and went speeding up like crazy. We almost ran down the cars in front of us. It was way above the set speed, so i turned off the cruise control and it stopped speeding up. I thought it was a new car and just doing something strange. I have never had it do that again. But i never use cruise on steep hills. Thought it was my problem until now of not knowing how or when to use cruise control.

2007 toyota avalon lunged forward and driver thought he had been hit from behind and knocked out he thought by a concrete wall but he hit another car. A woman, not wearing a seat belt and air bag did not deploy, was killed. Man, my husband was convicted of felony manslaughter naming the vehicle as a deadly weapon. Because toyota did not report safety issues we rented this vehicle and if we had known we would not have rented the vehicle and my husband would be at home instead of prison, no drugs or alcohol were involved as originally charged but tests prove differently. 2007 toyota avalon - i had no problem with my avalon until the local toyota dealership installed the recalls. Upon departing the dealership, after completion of the recalls, i found my avalon would not drive below 55 mph (engine rpm would not go below 1800 rpm) as if the cruise control was on but it was not! i returned to the dealership and the service manager was able to duplicate the problem. The dealership kept the avalon over night and the next day was unable to duplicate the problem! toyota engineering indicated, to me, that they thought this was a computer issue with the computer learning my driving habits, sounds strange to me! the newly installed brake override did work properly. Toyota returned the avalon to me but i am only using it when i have to as my family does not want to ride in it.

Sudden acceleration incident.my 2007 toyota avalon had all recall work done in march 2010.the car has around 20,000 miles on it.on 9/5/2010 i was pulling into a parking space with my foot on the brake pedal when the car suddenly accelerated into the curb.i was pressing as hard as possible on the brake, but the car would not stop until i hit the curb and put the gear in park.in the past, i have had problems with the transmission "hanging" when turning into an alley or up a garage ramp, but this is the first instance of sudden acceleration i've had.

The contact owns a 2007 toyota avalon.the consumer accelerated to pass a vehicle ad it took off and wouldn't slow down or stop. The brakes would hold the vehicle at that speed. Find when i am on cruise control in my 2007 toyota avalon and i reduce speed on resuming speed using my remote engine surges at a high rate of speed and brakes are slow in responding. This has happened on numerous occasions ;latest being on date listed below

This a followup to a prior complaint odi number 10306728. My toyota avalon was repaired by toyota dch in mamaroneck and the pedal part added, but this week i again noted an unexpected acceleration, this time a low speed while pulling into a parking spot.

In the past 6 months i have experienced 5 events where the car accelerated on its own prior to the final events leading up to this report.several times i experienced the car accelerating without my foot on the gas pedal as i drove through town. The car would go back to its correct rpms after driving a few miles or after the car was stopped and put into park. After experiencing the sudden acceleration the third time i took my vehicle to be checked at my local auto shop. They could not find anything wrong with the vehicle. After 2 more incidents i brought my car to a toyota dealership to be checked. After keeping my car for 2 days they found no unintended acceleration problems and confirmed that the factory mats were installed properly.on 12/28/09 i was drivingto work on a major highway. The car began to accelerate without my foot on the gas pedal. As i pushed on the brake, the car continued to accelerate. At that time i was not able to stop my vehicle by pressing hard on the brake. The only way i was able to slow the car down was to put the car into neutral. I took the nextexit which was the exit for the toyota dealership. I called the dealership and told the service manager to meet me outside because i was experiencing acceleration problems. I drove approximately 5 miles by alternating from neutral to drive and pressing very firmly on the brakes. As i pulled into the front of the dealership i put the car into neutral and exited the car. With the brakes smoking from the excessive braking and the car's rpm's racing the mnger entered my car. He confirmed that the mats were properly in place and confirmed the rpm's were very high. They contacted a toyota tech to look at my car, after 1 1/2 weeks with my car they were told by toyota to replace the throttle body and accelerator assembly including both sensors. I no longer feel safe driving this car and i am not convinced that toyota has found the root cause of this problem. Received bill invoice from customer. Updated 01/26/10.

1a. Pulling into parking space and while braking, car accelerated forward, hitting cement block that stopped vehicle. Damage to area under license plate.1b. Braking to stop for a red light in traffic car suddenly accelerated and ran into vehicle in front. My car sustained damage to front area near license plate. Other car--no damage.2. Failure to stop when braking at 5 to 10 mph on two occasions. Damage to front lower car body.3. Brought car into fred anderson toyota in raleigh, nc and theycompleted avalon recall procedure on sticking accelerator. The contact owns a 2007 toyota avalon. She received notification of a recall on her vehicle (nhtsa campaign id number: 10v017000: vehicle speed control: accelerator pedal) and repairs were performed accordingly. Following the repair, while sitting idle at a stop light, the vehicle abnormally accelerated without warning. She was able to place the vehicle in neutral and bring it to a stop.the vehicle was towed to the dealer where they could not determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was still in the dealers possession at the time of the complaint. The failure and current mileages were 23,800.

Driving about 25 mph and had to stop for a pedestrian cross walk.sudden acceleration of my toyota avalon.was able to stop by shifting to neutral and hitting brake hard.stopped again a few blocks later and got out of the car to determine there was no floor mat involvement.

Nov 23, 2006: in repositioning my 2007 avalon xls in the driveway of my sister's house, i slowly pulled forward to re-park and applied the brakes to stop and the accelerator immediately went to high rpms - i had to brake very hard to keep from hitting my brother-in-law and his house. I was braking - and turned off the ignition. On dec 23, 2006 the same problem occurred two blocks in a row in our congested downtown area. The 1st time, i was stopping very slowly; the second time i was braking to wait for a parking space. The 1st time i tried changing gears and then turned off the ignition. The second time i immediately turned off the ignition. My wife was a witness. I drove this car for the month after it's purchase new (sep 6, 2006), every 2nd/3rd day for the month of oct 2006, and off/on during nov 2006 without this problem. I told the local/district toyota personnel that i could not trust this particular vehicle. It has been parked either at the dealership or in my garage almost every day since dec 23, 2006. The district toyota personnel said that they did not consider my car unsafe because they 'could not find any error codes' in the car's system, and on the 102 mile test drive they did, without me present, they did not experience my problem. They did simulate it by stepping on the brake and accelerator at the same time!!!! i was on the highest alert the second time it happened on december 23rd! my foot was not on the accelerator! i was braking all three times - or else my brother-in-law would have been injured, his house damaged, and cars downtown hit. I resent the insinuation that i was pushing both pedals all three times. No explanation why i had not experienced this problem in the nearly three months (with the same shoes on) before the problem first arose. Toyota closed my problem report as 'solved' even though the local service manager stated he did not consider it 'solved'. Why?

1) while driving approx 30 mph experienced unintended acceleration.i was able to take control and stop vehicle2)uponentering highway felt like car shut off, then accelerated by itself.service advisor tried to tell us it happened because there are two different drivers using the car.finally a technician came in and told the service advisor that there was a service bulletin to correct such problems.the correctionwas"performed ecm recalibration to improve shifting".i didn't know to report it at the time, but i think our problem should be counted.the dealer downplayed our complaint saying it was how we were driving the car, and that the car couldn't tell which of us was driving.that is the most ridiculous thing i have heard.to date, we still have not received a recall notice on the gas pedal.we did receive one on the mats which we checked and were okay.

Dear nhtsa,i boughtthe toyota avalon limited edition 2007. My wife is the main driver for this vehicle. She recently experienced the gas acceleration on this vehicle for the past 6 weeks. I just called toyota manufacture and complained to them about my concern and they gave me the documentation # . They advised me to bring the car to the dealership for check up. I told them that when the car accelerates by itself on and off sometimes, it's very difficult for the technician to identifies the issue. I asked toyota customer care to mail me a letter in regarding the issue if they identify the cause. Please send me any information regarding the gas accelerator for toyota cars and trucks. I thank you for your support and assistance.

There was an error in the 1st complaint i submitted plus i now have the vin number. 2007 toyota avalon lunged forward and driver thought he had been hit from behind and knocked unconscious. He thought he had hit a concrete wall and he had hit a car (possibly a wall also, the da denies it was a construction zone and we have pictures showing it was). A woman, not wearing a seat belt and her air bag did not deploy, was killed. A witness said her car turned over and uprighted and he called 911 but was not in court. A piece of metal from the roadway is involved in the woman's death but da denies but police reported. Vehicle was named as a deadly weapon so sentence was enhanced. My husband was convicted of felony manslaughter, no drugs or alcohol involved but originally charged but tests proved differently. Toyota failed to report problems with this car or we would have never rented it from don mcgill toyota in houston, tx. Your agency is charging toyota fines, others are being compensated and here we sit, my husband in prison for something caused by toyota's negligence when he should be home with me. No attorney wants a case that has to be litigated when others settle out of court with little effort when ours has to be litigated because my husband was wrongfully convicted because of toyota and an over zealous da that waited almost 8 months to indict my husband. He was never ticketed for anything. We were denied access to the rental car and did not even get our personal belongings. We need help, fines paid by toyota won't help us. We need help. Is there no help for us or are our lives expendable? i know i wasn't supposed to give personal information but we need someone to listen and direct us to help.

In january 2010 my toyota avalon ltd with apx 36k miles forced forward and i could not shut it downi have a very bad back and neck with multiple discs replaced with a metal plate in my neck and low back bad discs.i went and had my low back injected from intense pain brought on after i was banging my foot on the brake - got down to pull up the gas pedal which was not stuck - finally got the car off...after recovering from the residual effects and rest required after the shot, i took my car to toyota repair in st george.i was ridiculed by some arrogant employees (young) who said that the rug got the pedal stuck. I assured this young whipper snapper that the rug was not there when the car wanted to have a mind of its own but he did not listen. I went inside and spoke to the supervisor who was very accommodating and apologized for the attitude and harassment of his employees.my car was serviced the next day and they added a metal plate somewhere in the gas pedal. I told the supervisor a few days later that the gas pedal now gently slaps my foot when i let my foot off the gas. I was told i would get used to it. I called toyota again to tell them that while driving my car is acting like it is changing gears as if i were driving it like a sports car style (which i do not do). He immediately scheduled my car for additional repairs a) different gas pedal and b) re program my electronics computer for something i do not understand. I am 62 year old and worry about driving my car every time i take it out of the garage now. I want toyota to give me back my money. I paid cash for my car in 2007 it was my first brand new car in 40 years. I keep it in mint condition. I service it at toyota every 3,000 or so miles. I told toyota repair number of times car acting strangely. They say no pbm.i planned on driving this car for the rest of my driving years on this earth. Now, all i do is worrying about dying in a car crash and am afraid to drive it. Please help me. Thank you.

This complaint is related to the recent reports of unintended acceleration.ever since my 2007 avalon was new, i have experienced a rapid acceleration when the cruise control tries to return to the pre-selected speed after bring slowed by the laser gap distance controller or when selecting a higher preset speed setting.this condition is most prevalent as the difference between set speed and actual speed increases.initially, i thought that it was merely a design quirk that was just slightly irritating.however, since learning about other more serious complaints of unintended acceleration, i'm thinking that i could have a more serious problem in the future.

On march 3, 2010, i had my 2007 avalon retrofitted for the recall. On march 6, 2010, i had an accident.the car had a mind of its own.i rear-ended a guy in front of me while exiting a city park. I was driving my 2007 toyota avalon on i-95 s in va when it accelerated on its own.i applied the brakes as well as the emergency brakes which slowed the car to around 30/35 mph.it would not stop but continued pulling as if it wanted to go faster.after pulling to the shoulder i called 911 because my car was about to go down a hill and i was approaching a merging entrance /exit ramp.in order to avoid this as well as stop the vehicle, i drove into a ditch.the car was cleared by firemen and towed away.the police gave me a ride home.

2007 toyota avalon limited. Defective laser cruise control. Note: vehicle has keyless ignition. When activated the unit would register obstructions that were not there or would not even recognize a vehicle directly in front.when the unit recognizes the object it starts to slow down, apply the brakes, and when the obstruction is far enough away it resumes speed.the problem is when it resumes speed. The accelerator is almost pushed to the floor and acceleration is rapid. The best way to disengage the system is from the control stalk on the steering column.i had this problem from the time i bought the vehicle in july of 2007. After two years of complaining to the dealer the unit was recognized as being defective and replaced in june 2009. The dealer claimed that he had not received any directive from toyota usa concerning a problem with the unit.with all the publicity that toyota is receiving concerning accelerator problems, i thought that in some cases the cause may be related to computer problem in addition to a 'jammed" or stuck accelerator.

Saturday, august 22, 11:30 am, i drove about 4 miles, got onto a freeway (northbound i-5) in san diego, at which time my car continued to accelerate, without my foot on the accelerator pedal. I looked down at my feet, saw that the floor mat was correctly in place. The car behaved as though "cruise control" were on, so i toggled cruise control on, then off. I also depressed the button for turning the car off (it has a "smart key" ignition), but the car did not stop.engine speed continued to increase. My brakes could slow the car a bit (from 70 mph down to 65 mph, but the car quickly accelerated back up to 70 mph and higher. I down-shifted (into one of the "mountain-driving" gears, then down-shifted again as i contemplated how to navigate around traffic and off the freeway. The engine tachometer indicated that the speed was increasing. I transitioned off the i-5 and onto the eastbound i-8 freeway, and slowed enough, with all my weight on the brake pedal, to the nearest offramp. I could not bring the car to a complete stop, but finally shifted into park before hitting anything. I now shut off the car.i tried to restart the car, in park, and the engine speed meter indicated 4500 rpm in a few seconds. I shut the car off and phoned aaa to tow me to the nearest dealer. The dealer could not find a cause for this uncontrolled acceleration. The manufacturer was also called. They said to pick up the car. I took the car to the dealer that normally services this vehicle, and they had the car for several days. They did some minor repair on the throttle, but said they could not determine nor fix the case of this. They also repaired the brakes, which were badly burned. I was apprehensive to drive the vehicle, and finally told the dealer to get me a replacement, which i am now driving. The car which had uncontrolled acceleration is at the dealers lot as of yesterday. Updated 11/18/09

We had a driving instructor conducting a class usingthe 2007 avalon.the instructor was driving and accelerated to pass a vehicle at approximately 35 mph and the accelerators stuck andthe car reached 8000+ rpms the instructor had to engage the brake and put the car in neutral and the car would not turn off, using the push button start.it finally turned off after numerous tries on the push button.once the motor turned off the accelerator then came up slowly by its self.we calledthe dealership, and were told it must have beenthe floor mats.there were three people in this car and they all saw the same thing.the floor mats had nothing to do with this problem.we had the dealer go over the car and again were told there was nothing wrong.we however do not believe their findings.

2007 toyota avalon,27.00 miles. When in cruise going up hill car races to get to cruise speed. Has been doing this since day one of purchase. I have reported sever times. Dealer says they all do it and there is no fix for it.

I am on highway with 65mph speed. I turned the laser cruise control on. When the vehicle in front of me is slowing down, the laser cruise control detects the speed and slow down automatically. However, the defect is: the braking lights never light up while the car is slowing down. It almost causes me an accident because the car behind me can not recognize my car being braked. It happens many times at cruising with highway speed.

Dash indicator on my 2007 toyota avalon signaled that windshield washer fluid was low. I filled the tank with fluid. The next day a pool of washer fluid was on my garage floor. Iimmediately took the car to the toyota dealer for service on 2/14/2009. I was told leaking was a common problem because the oe line used to carry fluid through the system was the wrong size. The dealer removed the incorrect line and replaced it with the recommended correct sized line. I was charged $78.26 for parts and service. When i complained that this was a safety issue and theoe was not the right size, i was advised to contact toyota corporate for relief. My complaint elicited a $47.50 "goodwill reimbursement" ( which was the cost of the parts) on 7/8/2009.

2007 toyota avalon is equipped with a sunroof so when it rains water gets trapped inside vehicle flooding floor boards which causes foul odor in vehicle.
