The airbag light intermittently goes on and off

2004 toyota avalon.consumer writes in regards to replacement parts not available to complete electronic control unit/ supplemental restraint system recall notice.the consumer stated the air bag light being on, was a constant reminder there was a problem, as it remained lit most of the time. The odometer light appears to be a part of the same clusters of indicators and buzzers. The light has not worked for two years. The problem with the air bag has been identified as the electronic control unit for the supplemental restraint system.

2004 toyota avalon, srs light comes on while driving, toyota can not get a fix because they state that the light has to be on when i bring it in. I have been able to do it only once and then it went off before they could get a diagnostic reading. The light will come on steady then flicker randomly. I was told by a toyota representative at the dealership that if a accident were to occur while the light is on that the air bags would not deploy. They also stated that the computer is not holding the error code which would assist in finding the problem. I have taken photos of the light on while driving and this was at 43952 miles. To date the car is just above 90k miles and the srs light is still randomly coming on. Ihave tried many a times to get to a toyota dealership while the light is on but it either goes out while in transit or goes out prior to dealership hooking up diagnostic equipment.i feel that this is a major problem to safety of my family since the airbags will not deploy if the srs light is on. Toyota should look further into these types of issues since it is in my estimation a major safety issue. I have photos if needed.

Air bag dashboard light occasionally flickers and begins to glow for a few seconds. Seems to occur more frequently in wet weather.my steering wheel will lock when i turn left or right while driving.reversed backwards a little bit and wiggled the steering wheel, it wouldn't budge then i went forward and wiggled and it finally loosened. This has happened 4 times and usually in wet weather. My car is listed in the air bag recall of 2015; however, i have not been notified of what to do next and it has now been more than 3 years since first notification.

There was a recall initiated 27 march 2014 for the supplemental restraint system (srs) electronic control module (ecm).toyota mailed letters on 05 may 2014 advising owners of the recall.as of today (16 sep 2014), toyota has failed to provide the parts and/or fix the srs ecm.as of today, toyota does not have an estimated date that the parts will be available to remedy this recall #14v147.since this is a safety issue and the airbag could deploy unexpectedly at any time, please direct toyota to provide the parts and fix this safety issue as soon as possible.6 months delay is 5 months too long for drivers to be put at risk by toyota's failure to fix the problem.

Air bag light going on and off for 1 1/2 years. Toyota found no problem. Several weeks ago air bag light stayed on. Toyota said wires leading from computer to under seat came apart and were sending out sparks. I paid to have this fixed. No airbags deployed in my 2004 avalon xls when a driver stated she did not see me/my car and turned left in front of me leaving me 2 seconds to brake.this was on a cityn street and she was turning from stopped position into private commercial parking lot. I was driving in lane closest to her car to reach light another 500 feet ahead so i could turn south when i got to it.my car was traveling 30-35mph(5-10mph under posted speed limit).i had just entered the roadway 400 ft before her turn from 0mph to maybe 3mph? in front of me. My car hit hers on bar between the front and back passenger doors. It caused her car to rise up-i saw the undercarriage of her car; it then rolled completely over onto its roof out of my sight. All witness descriptions of the incident and my own description of what happened were exactly the same. She was found at fault and we both were transported on backboards with c collars to closest hospital. I have injured spine(cervical, thoracic, lumbar), bilateral injuries to shoulders, elbows, wrists, hands, fingers, knees, femoral ball and socket joints, migraines, inability to get full night's rest, memory loss-search for words & just plain don;t remember things i may have done-what i had for breakfast or if i even ate breakfast; what someone has told me; what happened on a tv show or movie; experiencing frustration, anxiety, fear of dying in a car wreck-paramedic told me if i had not been in the size car i was in that i would have been a pile of broken bones or dead; the at-fault driver was also taken to hospital the same wayi was; her airbags did not depoly either; impacted her car, a 1998 toyota avalon. Any plausible explanation of why airbags did not deploy in either of our cars?

The manufacturer has failed to remedy the defect within a reasonable time.

The airbag light comes on at random times.it stays on from a few seconds to 15 minutes.last week i was driving a distance of 60 miles and my wife counted 19 times that the light came on.repeated contact with the local dealer and toyota have revealed that if the light is on at impact the airbags will not deploy.toyota never sees the light on and will do nothing to try to repair the problem.they say it would be too expensive.i have a 7 year 70k warranty.i have provided serial pictures of the light being on.toyota will not accept this as"we must see it", like i am a liar.

Our avalon has about 46,000 miles on it and has been doing the following for the last 10,000;passenger-side airbag light/fault indicator intermittently comes on while driving at any speed.this may go for days or weeks without happening, and then happen several times a day. Indicator may come fully on or only dimly on, for seconds or for minutes. It appears that going over a bumpy road will trigger the light going on or off. The vehicle was brought to the watertown ma toyota dealer for analysis in october 2010 and to the woburn ma toyota dealer on january 16 2012. The indicator did not come on while at either dealer who said they could not find anything wrong and that we need to bring the vehicle to them when the airbag light is on. This is impossible because neither dealer is close to our home and the light goes on and off so intermittently. The january 2012 visit to the woburn ma toyota dealer included running a diagnostic test that did not find anything wrong but said it could possibly be that the airbag wiring had gotten wet at one point and this was the result. The dealer advised us to see if the problem is worse when it rains. (it is not.) both dealers said if the indicator is on then the airbag system is not working properly, which is very concerning to us.alocal mechanic also removed the front seat from the car to check the airbag wiring beneath the seat; they did not find any problems. On february 7, 2012, the airbag light went on and we were able to get to the local mechanic with it still on. The mechanic immediately put on the scanning tool and no diagnostic codes showed even though the light was on. He tapped on the airbag panel above the passenger glove compartment and the diagnostic codes starting appearing on his scanner. Based on the scan results, he said that the passenger airbag is faulty and needs to be replaced.

Car was taken in 05/2016 for recall work to replace srs and ecu.after recall repair, intermittent pax side airbag light flashes on and off saying passenger airbag issue.dealer refuses to do more than specified recall replacement.we now cannot tell if we have airbags that will work and if the restraint system will tension the seat belts in an accident.the additional issue is that the front springs and struts have a flaw that makes a well aligned car, pull left.we are replacing this toyota flaw at our own expense despite the presence of a service notice.

Airbag light came on and spent 2000 dollars at don mcgill toyota to have drivers side airbag replaced. About a 1000 miles ( 3 months) later, the light is back on with the same code. Dealer so far is unable to find the problem. This is a reoccurring problem. I am concerned about inadvertent airbag deployment as well as losing the use of my car while the dealer tries to figure out the problem. I think they are just throwing expensive parts at it hoping something works,

Nhtsa recall 15v-043 (1-27-15).on 7/16 i receivedan urgent safety recall notice via mail.russel toyota 410-788-8400 said they would call when the part comes in.on 12/6/16i call mr. Allen, service manager who said the part was on back order and they would call me in 2-3 months.one question:why is toyota allowed to make me drive my car with this unsafe condition for more than 2 years before they think about obtaining the parts necessary to complete the repairs?

My complaint has to do with the air bag recall.the dealer on two occasions replaced components of the air bag system but has been unable to correct the problem.the service consultant claims to have contacted toyota tech personnel in ca and was told, basically, "there's nothing else we can do under the recall."if the problem still exists, i.e. The warning light still comes on and, apparently, there is still the risk of a malfunction, i fail to see why further action cannot be taken.from what i have read and heard the consequences of an air bag malfunction can be fatal.

I tried twice to get a safety recall fixed by koons toyota tysons corner after receiving a notice from toyota that there was a safety recall on my toyota avalon (recall 15v-043). Twice the dealer told me they would have to inspect the car to see if it needed a remedy to the recall and only after an inspection would they order parts. I brought it in the first time, they said it did need the recall and they would order the parts. They never did. When i tried to schedule it again, they told me the same story that i had to bring it in for an inspection and then they would decide if they could order the parts. It is ridiculous to go through such terrible customer service, and so therefore the recall has not been remedied yet.

Takata recall

Toyota has issued a recall for the supplemental restraint system and electronic control unit in march 2015.my car's airbag light is illuminated intermittently and the toyota dealer recommends the ecu be replaced.i have been in contact with toyota and my call has been escalated several times but they still are not fixing my car.toyota says that there is no remedy available.i am very concerned about my airbags deploying accidentally.i do not feel that toyota is taking my safety or my family's safety seriously.the recall i received clearly states that they know how to fix the problem "replacement of the srs ecu is now also required for this safety recall to be complete," it just seems that they won't.it has been almost a year that i have been driving a car in which i am not confident.please make toyota execute this recall in a more timely manner.

Since at least 2008 the airbag warning light has come on at random times.i took the car into a dealer in 2008.they failed to fix it.i took it in again.they failed to fix it.in 20014 there was a recall.it failed to fix it.2016 there was another recall. It failed to fix the issue.toyota is unwilling to take responsibility to fix the issue or is incompetent.

I have received two recall notices now for the supplemental restraint (srs) electronic control unit (ecu) and the toyota dealer (palm toyota) says there are no parts available to fix the recall problem.the recall notice says that toyota has a sufficient supply of sub-wire harnesses (filter) for this campaign.palm toyota says no.palm toyota suggested i call toyota corp which i did on march 15, 2015 and was issued a case #.no one can give me any idea of when my car can be fixed for the recall problem.

Air bag warning light flashes continuously from time to time, then operates normally after instrument panelstart up check.many similar comments may be found on internet by searching 2004 (and other model years) toyota avalon.dealers nor toyota manufacturing appear not to have anabsolute/accurate resolution.some technicians feel the problem (among others) may be related to a steering recall repair as a cable within the steering column could have been damaged in the repair process or steering system failure or as an inadvertent cable wear under normal steering conditions.owners are bearing the cost of repair and loss of vehicle resale value.unknown is the potential lack of passenger safety if the air bag system is inoperative.accident records indicate that in some accident cases air bags have not deployed and passenger injury/death has occurred.

Received a recall notice mid-october saying i should contact a toyota dealer to schedule an appointment to have the remedy pergfomed as soon as possible. When the car is moving, the airbag warning light illuminates and glows, sometimes for a few minutes and sometimes for an hour. Then it goes out.i received an interim notice letter from toyota over 2 months ago citing this problem and stating that they would notify me "again when a remedy is ready". I have not received another notice and i am afraid that a serious accident, injury or fatality could occurif the airbag deploys while being driven and no collision has occurred.please have toyota contact me with the remedy so i can have it applied at toyota's expense.

I took my car to haley toyota on hull street in richmond virginia for the air bag recall....they so call fixed the air bag issue and then said when they put the car back together the airbag light stays on and they don't know where it was coming from. After some research they said that it was the wiring harness that was the problem. My air bag light was never on prior to me bringing them my car. They are trying to charge me $1400.00 for repairs. The recall was for the air bag and if the light stays on then they need to fix it. I contacted toyota corporate office and they said the only thing they can do is to offer me $500.00 toward the repair but i would have to pay up front and send in the documentation and then i would only be reimbursed the $500. I don't feel like i should have to pay them anything because i feel like the mechanic did something for the air bag light to stay on. He said that maybe some wires got crossed or connectors got moist and try to put it on me. I brought the car from that dealership and haven't done anything to the car since i got it but keep up the maintenance. The recall is for the air bag and if the air bag light continues to stay on they need to fix it. They have had my car for two weeks now. I need help getting this resolved.

I took my car to herrin-gear toyota scion on wednesday, november 12, 2014at 6100 i-55 north in jackson, ms to fix the recall notice for the supplemental restraint system (srs) electronic control module replaced. On the drive home i noticed the airbag light coming on and off so i took it back to the them on friday, november 14, 2014.i was told by [xxx] , advisor in the service department, that the part they had put on wednesday was defective and they would have to order it and it would be a week or two before the part came in.so, in the meantime, i am still driving my car with the airbag issue still not repaired and i don't know definitely when it will be fixed.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

I received a recall notification inmarch, 2014from toyota that my air bags may deploy at any time. I have made monthly calls to the local dealer and toyota about when it can be repaired.six months later, they still do not have an answer.just how long is it before there is a solution and it is available?is my car suppose to sit in the drive way or do i just feel lucky and drive the car, which involves interstate driving at times?

The air bag warning indicator of my car lights up on a regular basis. The vehicle owner's manual states clearly that if this happens, the vehicle must be taken to a toyota dealer for service. I took the vehicle to a local toyota dealer, and the service representative informed me that they could solve that problem by replacing the air bag control module, or by changing the cable that connects the module to the accompanying air bag devices. Because the service department didn't have a replacement control module available, they replaced only the connecting cable. After the visit to the dealer, the air bag warning indicator didn't light.however, a few weeks later, the warning indicator began lighting occasionally, and as time passed, the indicator again began lighting regularly.when i called the toyota dealer to report this condition, the dealer told me to call toyota directly for more information. The representative at toyota said that they had issues a recall notice, but a solution to the problem wasn't available, and they would notify me when it became available.in the meantime, i continue to see the air bag warning indicator lamp lighting almost all the time. I am very concerned that toyota is attempting to avoid the cost of replacing the defective air bag control modules, and instead trying to find a less expensive alternative. I find this behavior dangerous on the part of toyota and want them to own up to the issue and provide a timely solution to this dangerous situation.

Srs airbag light comes on intermittently have been back to the dealer multiple times and the light goes off, the one time it was on the technician placed the computer on it and no error code was showing even though the light was flashing on and off. Another technician replaced the main sensor module $700+ but the light started flashing again after the weather changed and started getting cold.dealer says i have to bring it back for more diagnosis, also more money. Called toyota corporate offices and they will not even talk to me about refunding the unnecessary repair cost as car is out of warranty.have seen multiple instances of this behavior being documented in the internet postings, why hasn't the nhtsa directed toyota to fix this safety issue.if the light is on the airbags will not deploy and multiple blogs have stated that toyota airbags have failed to deploy in multiple instances.i think a major recall is in order for toyota avalon airbags for the 2001-2004 model years.

I am very concerned about my airbags deploying accidentally. I do not feel that toyota is taking my safety or my family's safety seriously. Prior reports for air bag #10354981. Today 12/6/10 the air bag light came on again after spending $1000 in september 2010 to fix it. The last time it was fixed service dept told me the wires were frayed and shooting out sparks. They said i was lucky to get to them so quickly before a fire started.

On july 14, 2007 my parents were involved in a single-car crash in the residential area of new bloomfield, mo.my 84-year-old father was driving a 2004 toyota avalon, suddenly left the right side of the roadway, flipped the vehicle, and landed upside down, back on the pavement.my 79-year-old mother was killed instantly from head trauma, and my father passed away from injuries sustained in the accident 7 weeks later.the authorities could not determine the cause of the accident, and my father could not remember any details, as he had extraordinary internal trauma and was in icu for most of his remaining 7 weeks.i have petitioned the auto insurer, allstate several times, but they have not responded to my e-mails, and although it is likely this vehicle has been destroyed, based on all the media about sudden acceleration of toyota vehicles, this could certainly have been a contributing factor to, if not the cause of, this horrific accident.we have been vexed by the whole incident, and it never occurred to me to request having the avalon inspected (highly rated vehicle and all...), until all the recent media of other deaths involving toyota vehicles. 1. I was at nellis air force base performing a ceremony. After the ceremony i entered the vehicle with wife to go to the base shopping area. The vehicle was parked in a parking space with a concrete tire stop, and wall in front. Entered the vehicle to back out. It came out quicker than normal off axis and the rear bumper impacted the concrete protector to a pole with very little damage. I put the vehicle in neutral and felt no out of the ordinary indications.2. I put it into drive with my foot on the brake to pull forward then back out. The car accelerated at full power sufficient enough tokick out the concrete tire stop behind the vehicle, and total the front end of the 2003 toyota avalon x ls to the tune of 17684 dollars.. I purchased the vehicle in december of 2008 and had no prior problems, and not being a recalled avalon no warning.i went through the nhtsa database for avalon from 2000--2010 andfound i had the exact same problem others reported.3. Toyota dealership was contacted at the time of the accident. When i called corporate later in the month they did not even have the vehicle in my name.i asked for an inspector and they sent one his name email etc is on file.when i called toyota corporate again they said i would get a letter from their claims department. About the findings.in 2-4 weeks. They did not offer to pick up the rental or to provide any assistance..note: i put in speed control and air bags for i had to put in something to make the menu work. It accelerated out of control with my foot on the brake the exact cause is to be determined, i could not control the speed so that fit closest. The air bags did not deploy for it hit on an angle, a flaw in the design. If you accelerate at full power into a brick wall they should deploy. Parking space speed unknown put in 30 mph to make the form work. Form needs updating this should be optional.

Recall on 2004 avalon electronic control module (ecm)second recall on same problem. I would like to have this repaired.thanks

I was alone in the car and had driven into my driveway (after opening the garage door) to enter the garage. The car suddenly took off and before i knew, i had crashed into the side of the garage and went through it. The car smashed into gardening tools, snow shovels, lawn mower, leaf blower, trash cans, and flowering pots. It came to a stop partly by the coat closet wall that protrudes into the garage and partly by all the stuff that got caught under the car. The garage door railing was damaged and the door was hanging a few inches above my car. I heard things falling above me. I thought that the roof would collapse. I realized that the car was still revving and i shut it. I sat for a few minutes and then i opened the door and ran out into the house. The car, the garage, and garage contents were damaged. The airbags did not deploy.i think it was caused by unintended acceleration. I was driving at about 5 mph in the driveway and i have been doing this for the last 10 years. It appeared that the car just flew and i had no control over it.

I received a letter from toyota in march 2014 notifying me of a safety recall involving the electronic control module for the supplemental restraint system. I took the vehicle to the local dealer to have the remedy installed, which they did. In approximately february of 2015 (six months ago) i received a second letter informing me that the original remedy is not sufficient, that the srs ecu must also be replaced and i would receive notification when the parts were available to correct the problem. After six months i have heard nothing else and when i spoke to the toyota case manager today she indicated that she had no information to give me regarding the availability of this safety recall. I don't believe that this is a reasonable response from toyota regarding this safety fix and i don't believe that toyota is making a good faith effort to resolve the problem.my case number with toyota is 1508243039.

So nothing has been done to it because of their improper time management. I would like you to contact this dealership so they can take care of this recall immediately.

Have been calling dealership since march 31st, 2015. They told me on three different occasions that they did not have parts, i was on a list. Gave up on contacting them.their dealership is located in janesville, wisconsin. How long do i have to wait? their phone number is 608-754-7754. The notice said it was urgent, how urgent can it be if it still is not fixed???

The vehicle had an extra added safety device used to stabilize the vehicle, the consumerwas told by the dealer that there was no way this vehicle will ever lose traction and skid. The owner has put 381 miles on the vehicle and the dash lights came on and the track off light came on and that special traction device was not working. The second light v.s.c. Light vehicle stabilizing control light appeared and the third light which wasthe check engine came on.

Car makes a very, very loud screeching sound when started with a/c or heating on (but more commonly with a/c). The sound will sometimes die down or stop once a/c is turned off, but not always. Puddles can trigger the sound as well. Sound can be heard mainly upon inital startup but can occur after car is in motion.

I've noticed that sometimes i smell something burning, electrical, coolant or something. My mechanics finds no leaks, but i checked once and the coolant reservoir was empty, find no leaks.somehow, the passenger side rear mud flap came off and the trunk lid doesn't line up.it always looks like it's partially opened.when driving i hear and feel rattling sounds that sounds and feels like the front passenger side suspension or body panels.more like the suspension.the person i bought it from had it serviced regularly and had timing chain, o2 sensor, anti-lock brakes checked and fixed or replaced.they also had it completely checked out and anything wrong was fixed.it also gets very poor gas mileage. The steering also doesn't feel quite right, can't really explain that very well, other than it's no quite right. Also, for some reason the battery wouldn't start the car one day and we checked the battery and the cells were dry.

While driving any speed, the vehicle jerked forward. This caused the consumer to rear end another vehicle. The consumer managed to pull over and shut off/restart the vehicle. The dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem. The cause was not determined. Please provide more information.

Complaint against toyota comments: sirs, july 29, 2010 - toyota motor sales, inc. Issued a recall for model year 2000-2004 toyota avalons. Toyota stated that customers will be notified "...beginning in late august 2010 to bring their vehicles to their toyota dealer for replacement of the steering column bracket..." as of today, october 6, 2010, notification has not be sent to me. Although i have had the part replaced, the replacement was due only to my diligence and not to the prudence of toyota. I feel sympathy for those drivers who may have been involved in a needless accident because they were unaware of the danger that could occur due a failure of a part of their automobile. I recommend that nhtsa investigate this situation at toyota.

While driving at any speed, the consumer heard a brushing sound coming from the steering column.the dealer has examined the vehicle on two occasions and was unable to find the cause of the problem.when the a/c was running the vehicle would die as was unable to be duplicated, the trunk gasket leaked, noises were heard when turning to the left (steering felt tight), the trunk bottom would not open, the wipers would hit the hood, there was a scraping when turning to the left, the driver door was leaking water, and the vehicle could not turn right. *sc

My 2008 toyota avalon had the high beam light fail after approx. 30000 miles.i took it to the dealer and told them the high beam did not work.i was insulted when they asked, "what do you mean they don't work"?i told them, "they don't turn on".i was told they both burned out and i said there was no way they would both burn out at the same time.their insults continued with, "their the same age so they certainly could burn out at the same time."i explained when i went to turn them on one night, all lights in the car went out and i heard a pop sound.i was able to get the regular lights back on but the high beams have never come on since.after they checked the car i was informed, "they didn't just burn out, they blew up".even with their statement the dealer would not admit to any electrical problems with the car.they were going to charge me $250 per light.with their attitude, i didn't get them changed.i made another mistake with this dealer when i got the oiled changed several months later.toyota now provides a bogus safety report.my report stated all the lights worked.it also stated my rear window wiper was in excellent shape and didn't need to be replace.if you've ever seen an avalon, it doesn't have a rear window wiper.i guess the virtual one works just fine.

2004 toyota avlon/xl sedan we took the vehicle to dealer,toyota-scion of stafford,va for 30,000 mile check and engine light 06/20/07 , on 07/06/07 engine light back $95.00, and on 07/2507 engine light once again and they found the problem a split line on top of the fuel tank $325.00. Apparentlybad material which from factory not expected from an avlon barely 3 years old.

Backing out of the carport in my 2004 toyota avalon.vehicle accelerated violently, backing up approx. 50 and stopping when it hit the front deck of our house.

My mother's 2004 toyota avalon, miles 7,800 miles needed 2 fuel to air oxy/sensors within the last 30 days. Cost is approx. $200.00 each, toyota states they will not cover the parts.

On 5-27-2013, i experienced a terrifying incident with my toyota avalon. I stopped the vehicle, and left the engine running to keep the a/c going for our dog, while i assisted my wife from the back seat. I pressed the door unlock feature to open all the door locks. When i exited from the driver side i closed that door. When my wife existed from the rear driver side i closed that door and then went to the rear passenger door to get my dog. In that short period of time, all of the doors had automatically locked, trapping my dog in the car. I am very concerned that this might happen when a child is in the vehicle. In my case i was fortunate enough to have my son drive me to my home to get my spare key and return to open the vehicle.the response from toyota to this complaint was to take the vehicle to a dealer, but they offered no explanation or reason for this event.

My 2004 avalon xls has issues with both front inner door handles chrome peeling and leaving razor sharp edges and leaving lacerations to hands when pulling to open doors at times. The rear inner door pull handles are beginning to bubble and will begin to peel as well.i paid a visit to my local toyota dealer and they stated there was not a recall or assistance for this issue. This is a big problem in my eyes and do not think i should be responsible for the cost of repairs.please help me in my next step.

The contact owns a 2004 toyota avalon. The contact stated that the rear driver side door handle fractured while attempting to open door. The dealer advised replacing the door handle. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 79,982.

At that time, thenoise was diagnosed as a wheel hub that needed to be replace at a cost of $ 750 per wheel plus tax totaling over $3,000.the lead mechanic diagnosed the problem as being one replacement of the right rear hub, not all four.

Recall on 2004 avalon electronic control module (ecm)second recall on same problem. I would like to have this repaired.thanks

Dash lights keep coming on showing air bags icon and we have a recall dated in october 2015 and stated that the sub-wire harness was installed and the the srs ecu was not replaced.every time i call my local toyota dealership i find out that toyota has not sent the replacement parts.i use [xxx] in sylacauga, al 35150: phone [xxx].getting worried that the air bags might deploy on us and cause us to wreck.toyota is dragging feet! my phone is [xxx] and car is in wife's name [xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

I received a safety recall notice from toyota years ago.i called them a number of times and they still don't have the replacement part.they told me they would call me when they received it but i have never heard from them.toyota is risking my life and those of my passengers.

2004 toyota avalon -receive a notice of a problem with the supplemental restraint system(srs) electronic control unit (ecu).the original "fix" for this problem (deemed an "urgent safety recall" by toyota) was announced in mar, 2014.it was later found that this "fix" did not do the job.a 2nd recall (dated jan 27th, 2015)was issued.to date, the recall has a status of "remedy not available".i consider this to be reprehensible!! the recall id is 15v043.i have called toyota on several occasions and i get the same response...."we will contact you when a remedy is available."

The contact owns a 2004 toyota avalon. The contact stated that the air bag warning light remained illuminated. The dealer reset the code, but the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer who diagnosed that the front driver and passenger seats needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vin was unavailable. The approximate failure mileage was 15,000.

The contact owns a 2004 toyota avalon. While driving approximately 65 mph, the vehicle suddenly experienced unintended acceleration and the speed erroneously increased to 105 mph. During the incident, the brakes also malfunctioned and the driver was unable to apply pressure to the brake pedal. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 104,000.

My daughter was in a car accident in dec 2013 involving our 2004 toyota avalon. We suspect the cruise control did not release as it should have. She had been using the cruise control and tapped the brake to release it as she exited a highway she then stepped on the brake to slow down as she exited the eastbound highway to maneuvere the exit curve to merge onto a southbound interstate highway. On the curve she noticed the car wasn't slowing down as it should, and when she braked harder, the brakes locked up sending her into a swerve. The car traced a path similar to an upside down question mark. She crossed two lanes, and the rear of the car hit a wall landing her facing traffic right next to the roadway. When the car came to a stop, both the gas pedal and the brake were completely depressed to the floor, and the engine had shut off. Her foot had not been on the gas pedal for some time since she was using the cruise control. The insurance company totaled out the car. Thankfully, there were no other cars involved, but my daughter was pretty shaken up and had to be treated for headaches/neck soreness due to whiplash. When she restarted the car (she had to turn the key off first, then on), the pedals returned to normal and she was able to move the car across to a safer location on the shoulder of the road to await help. Toyota's gas pedal recall started with the 2005 toyota avalon, so we had no recourse for action and the car is now gone, so there is no evidence to inspect. We are convinced the gas pedal sticking / cruise control refusing to release was the cause of the accident and want to pass on the information so that others can be protected from injury

While backing slowly, the rightfootwas moved from accelerator to foot brake pedal.as pressure was applied to the foot brake, the car accelerated in reverse, continued turning, smashed along side of another vehicle and turned a half circle.driver's left foot pressed the emergency brake causingcar to stop.total elapsed time no more than two seconds.

I was driving in my lane at 40 mph until an austex towing truck went into my lane without a signal and i was right beside him. I honked to no avail and he was still proceeding into my lane. I hit the brakes as hard as i could to avoid him hitting me and i had to swerve a little to my left (to my left was the curb as it was a 2 lane road) to avoid him hitting my right side of the car. After i avoided him, he was driving half into both lanes for about 5 seconds then he returned to his lane.

I was just coming off the expressway driving from 75 mph, down to 35 getting off the ramp. As i exited onto the ramp i noticed that the steering was getting really hard to control and had a pounding noise . From that location it took about three more big turns where i had an extremely hard time turning the wheel. When i got home, checked levels in power steering fluid, which needed a little more, so i filled it ,and coolant levels looked normal. I drove around the block to see if it made a difference.it was actually getting worse. Now the pounding noise got louder and it was still really hard to turn, and eventually developed a clicking/grinding noise. So now i'm going to call toyota to see if they have a recall to cover what is going on.

I got a notice from toyota that my 2004 avalon had been recalled. I have tried to make an appointment to have this problem fixed.the service department of toyota of rockwall states they will return my call but they never do. This is unacceptable.i am still waiting for an appointment to get this recall repaired.

In december, i took my 2004 avalon to the dealership for the steering column bracket recall. Shortly after, i returned to the dealership complaining about my odd steering. I could feel the steering stiffen, then return to normal, then back to stiffening. The dealership had the car for a day to check out the steering which they couldn't find anything wrong with it. Now, my steering is stiff all of the time. I am afraid to drive the car. It is not safe to be on the road. In researching i have not found a recall for this problem. Clearly, there is a steering problem since i have found several similar complaints. A recall should immediately be ordered by toyota.

My steering wheel will lock when i turn left or right while driving ..this morning i was just starting my car and was turning left and my steering wheel locked and i went up the sidewalk and almost hit the fence and i couldn't move it i reversed backwards a little bit and wiggle the steering wheel and it wouldn't budge then i went forward and wiggled and it finally loosened. This has happened 4 times now usually in the morning. And my mileage is 140,822

The contact owns a 2004 toyota avalon. While driving speeds over 45 mph, the steering wheel would shake and vibrate. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed that the vehicle needed a wheel alignment. The wheel alignment was performed but the failure continued to occur. The contact indicated that later, when starting the vehicle the steering wheel was extremely difficult to turn in either direction. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, who diagnosed that the failure was due to an internal leak in the rack and pinion. No further information was available. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was 48,000.

2004 toyota avalon xls- while driving on the expressway one day last week, the steering wheel became very hard to turn. Took the car immediately to the toyota dealer the same day. Was told there wasn't anything wrong with the car. The next day the same problem, took the car back to dealer and asked for someone to test drive the car with me. The mechanic could not turn the steering wheel without strong force. My car has been in the shop for 6 days.

While driving 35 miles per hour the consumer hit a curb which caused the right front tire to go flat. The consumer took the vehicle to the dealer and results showed that the strut arm, knuckle steering, bushings and bearings all needed to be replaced.

The contact owns a 2004 toyota avalon. While driving various speeds, the steering wheel seized and the air bag warning indicator illuminated. The contact stated that extra strength was needed to steer the vehicle and the failure occurred periodically. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing or repairs. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 122,000.

Steering became difficult. Vehicle would not return to straight forward direction after a turn. Force was required to bring vehicle back to straight path. Problem was caused byinternal leaking of steering fluid. Dealer replaced steering rack. Power steering lines had to be replaced due to rusting.

At approximately 20,000 miles steering felt stiff. When turning, steering wheel did not return to position properly. Steering wheel feedback did not provide a smooth motion when making turns. Steering effort was intermittent. This condition was dangerous because since steering should be a smooth precisemaneuver, any unexpected steering response is potentially dangerous.because the car had low mileage but was out of warranty, toyota, corp. Paid for parts and i paid for labor. Toyota dealer found steering shaft joint binding and replaced part. Problem returned at approximately 35,000 miles. This time dealer replaced steering main shaft assy. Tilt r&r. And shaft sub-assembly.

The contact owns a 2004 toyota avalon. He received a recall letter regarding recall 10v345000, steering. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer to be repaired and the contact stated that the heat was working normally. The vehicle was purchased used in 2008. The contact stated the heat was working fine until he took his vehicle to the dealer; however, the dealer was notified and would not return his call. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 61,399 and the current mileage was 61,429.

Steering became very stiff.

My 2004 toyota avalon xls had a problem.i was trying to go to my office in the morning and the steering wheel was very tight & hard to turn.there was no accident or road potholes involved in this case.when i took the car to the toyota dealership in erie, pennsylvania, the toyota manager told me that the intermediate steering shaft is bound up/twisted.it is very shocking to me that such a reputable toyota car had this life-threatening problem.if i was on the highway, i would not have been able to turn my vehicle and would have went off the road.

I was driving on an expressway at apx 65 mph going onto the off ramp going down to 25mph the steering became very tight and then as i drove home the steering wheel started clicking. I checked fluids at home and they looked ok. Drove around the block and power steering was gone left and right then heard a grinding noise, it felt ok going straight. After i drove it it became more intermittent with power coming and going altogether. On 8/26/15 had a small accident on the front quarter panel. It was at body shop for 4 days. I had asked them to check the steering and they said it was the rack and pinion. Called toyota and was told the recall in 2010 was for a different steering issue than the steering problem that i mentioned. Toyota said they cannot help me. I informed them of a disability i have and might not be able to adjust to it.too bad!

The contact owns a 2004 toyota avalon.while driving 14 mph, the steering wheel became extremely difficult to turn.the dealer stated that the steering shaft failed due to corrosion and they replaced the steering shaft.there were no further occurrences.the failure mileage was 32,000 and current mileage was 32,289.updated 01/03/08.*ljthe consumer stated the part had no grease fitting.

Toyota avalon xls 2004 problem seeing the trunk when backing up for visual idea of how close to what behind me.six days after purchasing the vehicle, the key would not turn in the ignition and all the dash lights stayed lit.there was a grinding noise coming from the steering.

While driving 35 miles per hour the consumer hit a curb which caused the right front tire to go flat. The consumer took the vehicle to the dealer and results showed that the strut arm, knuckle steering, bushings and bearings all needed to be replaced.

2004 toyota avalon.consumer requests reimbursement for power steering and wheel hub repairs.the consumer stated she experienced steering failure, two years prior to the recall.the consumer went to a local mechanic, because the toyota dealership was too far to drive to for the repair. Upon submitting all the required proof, toyota refused reimbursement stating the repair she paid for was not the reason for the recall.therefore, the consumer took the vehicle to the dealer for the correct repair, which she felt had already been done. Last fall, the consumer started to hear a whirring noise while driving on the highway. The dealer was unable to diagnose the problem then, the noise became louder and again, she went back to the dealer. At that time, thenoise was diagnosed as a wheel hub that needed to be replace at a cost of $ 750 per wheel plus tax totaling over $3,000.the lead mechanic diagnosed the problem as being one replacement of the right rear hub, not all four.

Received safety recall notice beginning of may 2014.at the beginning of august i checked with toyota's office in california and spoke with nicole (cust. Svc. Supv.) her office phone number is 1-800-331-4331 ext. 73824. They found a "solution", to the problem in early may 2014.vehicles need to be "fitted" with a noise filter, between "the air bag control module and the wire harness". But i was told by nicole, "that they still don't have the part ready for installation".i expressed my concern because of an accident i was involved in, may 28th 1996. (it was in a 1991 lincoln towncar, the first year cars had airbags)because of my "personal injuries", i've been totally disabled ever since.that was over 18 years ago!i expressed my concern to nicole "because this is a safety issue!"what the recall states is, "the electronic control module (ecm) for the supplemental restraint system (srs) in these vehicles could have been manufactured with integrated circuits that are susceptible to internal short circuiting when exposed to certain electrical noise from various vehicle electrical components.if internal short circuiting occurs, the front airbag(s) and/or seat belt pretentioners could inadvertently deploy."then the recall goes on to describe what "could happen", to occupants in the vehicle.

My car keys can be removed without putting the car in p.thecar was stationary in a parking space and rolled back.

I am writing you to ask toyota to follow through with implementing this recall remedy. After receiving the interim notice, i have been patiently waiting for the "fix" or remedy. However i have been stonewalled in a call to toyota-- toyota continues to say "no remedy is currently available" and that they will "notify you when the remedy is ready." how long will nhtsa allow toyota to keep delaying "preparing the remedy?" i am delaying driving this car until the "remedy" has been implemented.i am asking the nhtsa to direct toyota to implement this remedy in my car.

Nov., 2003, going 25 mph in heavy traffic i hit a pot hole and the car suddenly accelerated.i had my foot on the brake already as there was a red light ahead and had to use extreme force to stop the car.i put it in neutral and it stopped racing.july 11, 2006 i was traveling at 75 mph and heard a noise as if the car was racing.it was registering 5500 rpms.i slowed to 65-70 and it went down to 5000 rpms.i got off at the next exit and when i came to a stop it returned to normal.for the next hour i traveled at 75 with the car registering approx 2000 rpms.july 31, traveling approx. 25 mph in heavy traffic i tried to slow to avoid hitting the car in front of me as it turned right. It was extremely difficult and i would have hit it if it hadn't turned.again i had to use significant pressure on the brake to bring it to a stop.as it came to a stop i noticed that it was at 3000 rpms.when it was completely stopped it returned to a normal 500 or so.august 2, 2006 as i was about to ascend a hill, it suddenly accelerated without my applying more gas, but returned to normal when i stepped on the gas.i didn't notice the rpm reading.today i traded the car in, rather than risk injury to myself or others by continuing to drive it.the toyota dealer was previously unable to duplicate the incidents or find the source of the problem.the dealer is going to try to find the problem.

While driving at low speeds vehicle accelerated uncontrollably. Consumer applied the brake pedal and the vehicle continued to accelerate. Consumer was able to maintain control of the vehicle, and drove it to the dealer for inspection.however, the mechanic could not duplicate the problem.

Having traveled up a steep road, i proceeded to turn into an acquaintance's driveway.i began to apply the brake as i came to park behind her vehicle. Suddenly without warning, my2004 toyota avalon surged ahead and crashed into her parked vehicle causing my front bumper to go under the back of her 2004 sebring convertible lifting it up off the ground.the air bags did not deploy.i called my toyota dealer and they suggested i not drive it (i was to go out of town for the memorial day weekend).so i had it towed to the dealer as i wanted them to check this accerlation problem.i had $2537.16 damage to the front end of my avalon, that included damage to my front bumper, grille, headlamp, panel hood, radiator and front fenders. The sebring had approximately $650 damage.it took 10 days to repair.the dealer said that he could find nothing wrong with my vehicle.it was hooked up to a computer to see if any systems had failed.he also could not duplicate the problem.i feel certain that this accident was caused by a power surge of some kind. My avalon has only 9500 miles on it.i bought it in july of 2004 and in september 2004, i experienced a similar power surge.traveling up a hilly road no more than 30 mph, as i reached the top of the hill as the road straighten out, the car took off.it lasted only a few seconds, but scared me.however, i did not report it. The thought of another power surge has me very hesitant about feeling safe in this automobile. I have been driving accident free for 47 years.i am in very good physical health.

My 2004 toyota experienced a sudden acceleration on a slight upgrade which caused the car to go into a rapid uncontrollable spin. This resulted in a head on collision with a pick up truck. My wife suffered injuries to her head when the rear view mirror flew off the window and struck her in the head. This resulted in memory loss and she now suffers from recurring headaches. The car was a total loss.
