Electronic control module (ecm) issue: problem w/ intermittent warning lights for air bag some time ago (researching date)- took vehicle to dealership. No more light, but vehicle began stalling/losing power while driving- rarely, but became more frequent over time. Instrument panel/check engine lights will illuminate- now every minute or so while driving. Other people have same problem- nhtsa id 10605681.took vehicle to dealer late may. Dealer on phone w/ toyota multiple times + had tech from another dealer come and look at vehicle - could not figure out what was wrong. Dealer now says the ecm faulty. Not repaired, but dealer wants to charge 8hrs of diagnostic time and not repaired - can dealer charge if recall item? my concern is that problem is more than air bags- faulty ecm results in loss of power/control when engine shuts down, stalls or experiences intermittent loss of power- vehicle no longer safe to operate.i cannot drive it; i cannot sell it.called toyota, asked for part # of recalled srs/ecm- was told only local dealer has part numbers. They took information and transferred me to "toyota corporate"- operator id'd as toyota corporate asked questions, indicated they had documented my file. When i asked operator to confirm items operator had chosen to document, operator refused to respond to my requests for confirmation- i asked for supervisor- was told "no supervisor" there. Operator threw me on hold (on hold for over 30 minutes w/ corporate then transferred me to nhtsa w/out operator ever coming back on the line prior to transfer (nhtsa conf # available). "corporate" indicated that toyota has no control over dealers- they can charge whatever they want to diagnose even if related to recall notice. Loss of use over 1 month. Dealer said no new ecm replacement part available. Pretty sure recall remedy inadequate.

The contact owns a 2003 toyota avalon. The contact stated the air bag light illuminated on the instrument panel. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer to have nhtsa recall campaign id number 10v354000, steering repair performed in august of 2003 and the air bag light has been on since the recall repair. The steering recall remedy included replacing the steering interlock device. The dealer replaced the air bag on the steering wheel and the clock spring. Whenever, the air bag light came on the dealer offered several solutions, but none of them have were performed. The failure mileage was unknown. The current mileage was 171,000.

We own a 2003 toyota avalon. We received the safety recall notice regarding the supplemental restraint system (srs) electronic control unit (ecu) for this vehicle in march of 2014. The red airbag light in the dash has been on, making the vehicle unsafe to operate. Since this involves the very safety and well-being of my family, we called the local west covina dealer, at least four (4) times and made at least one (1) drive-in visit, to get this matter resolved.each time we were told there was no ' srs ecu ' replacement part available.on our last attempt to reach out to them, we left a message for the service advisor at the west covina toyota location and was not even given the courtesy of a return phone call.we are thoroughly disappointed and frustrated! since this places our family at great risk of harm and endangers their well-being, out of desperation, we are reaching out to you.it has now been over two (2) years since receipt of the initial safety recall notice.surely, this is sufficient time to be able to rectify the problem! please feel free to contact via email at either [xxx] to discuss this matter.or, you may reach out to us by phone at [xxx](h) or [xxx] (c).it is my hope that your assistance will provide the impetus needed to resolve this matter.sincerely yours,[xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).'

My avalon is part of nhtsa recall campaign 15v043 -- the second recall campaign because the first was a total failure. The second recall remedy is apparently "in process" -- where it has been since my vehicle first failed in 2011. The airbag light continues to intermittently activate while driving, suggesting that the airbag may not inflate in a crash. Why is nhtsa such a spineless weakling? nhtsa, fulfill your mandate to protect my family! you are the government agency. Therefore, stop pandering to toyota and force a remedy now. Perhaps toyota doesn't have the engineering resources to resolve this problem in four years time?

I was involved in a collision where my passenger side front tire came off of a ledge in a construction zone at which point i lost control of the vehicle. There was no barrier in place on that side. I chose to direct my vehicle toward the mud pit on the right of the road. I corrected to the right causing the vehicle to go off of the road and nose dive through the first mud/dirt embankment. I expected the airbags to deploy on both side and front taking the speed and force of the collision with the first embankment and the yaw of the vehicle in the air. I was attempting to control the vehicle still at this time at which point i had now landed rear bumper first and a bit sideways on a 2nd embankment. This then launches the front of the vehicle airborne finally coming to rest in a mud and gravel drive way of an individual who lives off of the highway. The vehicle lost all of it's transmission fluid almost immediately through some opening in the bottom of the vehicle and the headlights were not damaged but after further researched i had determined that the impact sensors are actually located in the front bumper of the vehicle.2 were injured in the accident which were myself, the driver, and my driver's side rear passenger who was wearing a seat belt but not properly. She had the lap portion of the belt on but the shoulder portion behind her. She is a 20 year old adult female.i am a 19 year old male and had mine on properly. She hit her head twice on my headrest. I was thrown into the side of my door and then the steering wheel, then back against the door resulting in bruised ribs. If the vehicle's airbag system were to have deployed properly there would have been a barrier between me and the door which caused my bruised ribs on my left side. There is a known airbag recall on my vehicle for which toyota which i have not been notified of a solution for at this time.

Recall case #[xxx]i received a recall notice on my toyota avalon 2003 in june of 2014 . Your customer service center has failed over and over to take care of this matter! i have spoken with[xxx], and none of them seemed to understand that i needed to speak with a supervisor none even would geta supervisor on the phone. The dealership near me toyota of cool springs after speaking with the supervisor there named [xxx] told me even after 4 months they still were unable to schedule any service because they do not have parts in for this recall. I received a notice in october stating that the remedy was found and parts were delivered to all dealerships.the remedy recall notice also stated that the service should be done immediately.they told me at the dealership that the soonest they can schedule anything is six weeks from now in december. That is not ok as far as i am concerned for a safety recall that states it should be fixed immediately.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

(it was not caused by an impact and i had not hit a pothole.) the airbag did not hit my face so there was no injury, and i was able to pull over into a turn lane to call roadside assistance.

Over one (1) year ago i received a safety recall notice on this vehicle stating that the electronic control unit (ecu) would need to be replaced. Over a year later and "remedy not available" is the response from toyota. It appears that the remedy is to delay, delay, delay so as many of these cars as possible are retired and do not require repair. Please let me know how this recall problem is going to be resolved in a timely manner.

2003 toyota avalon.consumer writes in regards to air bag malfunction during vehicle accident.on november 16, 2013 while driving at 55 mph in the 4th lane, another vehicle in the consumer's lane 100 yards away from him, suddenly stopped. Traffic was light, so the consumer switched to the 3rd lane left of him. When he got within six car lengths of the stopped vehicle in the right lane, he was suddenly side swiped by an automobile wanting to move into his lane. The contact to his vehicle caused the frontal air bag to deploy in an alarming and strange way. I received over the summer of 2014 a recall for my 2003 toyota avalon regarding the srs (airbag) warning light and to hang tight because a'fix' was coming soon.october 22, 2014 i received a 2nd letter from toyota motor sales, u.s.a. Indicating that the replacement part was in and to contact my toyota dealership to schedule an appointment.i called walker toyota (937.433.4950) located at 8457 springboro pike, miamisburg, oh45342 on october 23, 2014 and attempted to schedule my car for repair. I was told that they did not have the replacement part but would contact me soon.on november 3, 2014 the srs warning light came on the dashboard.i immediately took the car to the night drop at walker toyota with the hope the part would be installed on nov. 4, 2014.i received a phone call from bob (service mgr.) that there was no indication that the srs warning light came on based on the car computer and because this is not considered an 'emergency' i have to wait 10 days for a part to become available. I now have a car that i'm afraid to drive for fear of the airbag deploying.i was assured by bob that this has 'never' happened to hisknowledge. Wow.....that makes me feel good about it. I then asked for a rental car with a discount based on this issue.i was told that walker toyota cannot give a price break on a rental.keep in mind i'm a school secretary making $32,000.00 a year.$35 x 10 days is $350.00.i can't afford to do that.i am now resorting to begging rides to and from work until this car is scheduled for a repair.

Air bag indicator and seat belt not on indicators keep coming on intermittently. Dealer can't do anything about it unless these indicator comes on when they do the test drive. So it's not always reproducible by the dealership.

Airbag system warning indicator light flashes intermittently. Independent repair shop found no codes stored during vehicle check. Illumination of warning light is inconsistent, has no apparent connection to speed or conditions, but has occurred repeatedly. Due to the seriousness of airbag system failure, and the apparent trend of complaints for this specific problem on a range of toyota avalon model years, inaction by nhtsa and toyota must cease.

The recall remedy for nhtsa campaign 15v043000 is a failure. An identical symptom to the original problem has recurred on two occasions (intermittent illumination of the srs system warning light). Prior to the recall, we attempted to have the error code diagnosed by the dealership following illumination of this warning lamp. However, no error codes were stored. Now, the dealership (lou fusz, st. Louis) claims that they must charge us to attempt to read any stored codes. Obviously, toyota engineers do not know what the problem is after having a first recall that failed followed by a second recall and now recurrence of identical symptoms.

Nhtsa temporary complaint number jen15-49029.this concerns the toyota recall for faulty air bag controllers, nhtsa recall #14v147000.why has nhtsa waited so long before enforcing the recall?your site has about 122 complaints regarding the months-long delay to replace air bag controllers.how many people have to be killed before our government takes notice?while toyota appears to take this recall very lightly, especially since the news is full of other toyota recalls, the main enforcement group here in the us is your department.stop meeting, stop waiting and start being responsive to dangers for the american traveling public.i hope by the time this recall and effective repair actually occur, i or someone else isn't killed or maimed on our roadways due to known faulty air bag controllers.

Takata recall ... It's been a year since we received the recall notice.each time we contact our dealership we're told the fix is not ready yet.it's difficult to believe toyota is taking this seriously if they can first say our lives are at risk and then diddle around for a full year without doing anything about it beyond sending out a letter.do they get federal credit for responding to a recall situation when all they've done is post a letter to us????

Air bag warning light began flashing. The same week the light started flashing i received a letter from toyota notifying me that there was a recall for a problem with the srs because the srs circuits are susceptible to internal shorting. The electrical short may create an abnormal current flow and increased heat which can damage the circuits. I brought the vehicle to a certified toyota dealer to have recall addressed. The dealer told me they performed the fix that was required by toyota.the work that the dealer performed did not address the problem that was causing air bag warning light to flash. I was told the air bag light was flashing because of a short.i can not figure out how this short in the srs would not be covered under the recall.

Air bag warning light began flashing then stopped.took to dealer who discovered a error code b0166 stored in the computer (open circuit in left side airbag) but was not flashing when evaluated.one day later the light again came on.the dealer wants $1700.00 plus labor to fix and that it would be inoperative in an accident.i contacted toyota--[xxx] at 800-331-4331 who advised me it was out of warranty and toyota would take no responsibility for fixing a federally mandated safety feature which has no maintenance or wear and tear expectation.it is a part not expected to fail.i am now waiting on a supervisor, [xxx], to call me back but [xxx] assures me he will not be helpful either.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

I took my car to legacy toyota in tallahassee, fl in response to a safety recall for the ecm srs. This was on november 9, 2014. As of today, december 16th, my car has not been repaired.

I made an appointment with toyota of rockwall to have a recall on the air bags repaired.after an hour i was informed that they would have to order the part. Kyle told me he would call me no later than nov 4th with the part in hand.i never heard from him or anyone else at toyota of rockwall.so i contacted toyota hq by email.in their response they basically said that they don't care if the recall is repaired or not.it's their car on which they used defective parts and they should repair it asap.

Airbag illuminates at different times while driving.this has been a recurring problem since 2003.when recall notice was received took car into toyota dealer for repair.upon arriving at home with vehicle noticed that inside dome ceiling lights blinks on and off until ignition is turnedoff.returned to toyota one week later to report problem.i was told that the system was resetting and that the blinking would stop.during the next three weeks the blinking continued and the airbag continued to illuminate while driving.i returned to the dealer and three hours later was told that the car has a $700 electrical problem that needed repair and that would fix both problems.the car did not have an electrical problem when it was initially taken into the dealer.they are trying to get additional monies to make up for fixing the airbag problem for free. Toyota headquarters is responsible for seeing that their dealerships honor the repair requests and do them correctly.

My wife was driving down the freeway when the seatbelt began tightening down on her to the point she felt she couldn't maintain her posture to drive safely and breath.she pulled off the road and released the seatbelt. She was unable to refasten the seatbelt/shoulder strap. She drove home without a seatbelt.this was in addition to occasional flashing ofairbag warning light which has continued to occur since replacement of seatbelt mechanism.

Takatarecallireceived a safety recall notice about the passenger front airbag on may 2 2016.i went to walker jones service department in waycross, ga on may 3. I was told they do not have the part and have only received one replacement part. I was told they would call me when toyota sent them the part. I called again on may 16 and they said the same thing. I want my vehicle repaired so i can safely use it. Why are the parts not available??? this is unacceptable. When these notices are sent out why do we have to get the runaround about the parts?

Airbag warning light on dash appeared. The source of this warning has been identified as the spiral cable (clock spring in steering column). This part has not been identified as a recall by toyota for this model but spiral cables have been identified as a recall for numerous other toyota models.i suggest this problem may be systemic to a larger group of toyota products than previously identified by toyota and since it is a potential safety issue it needs to be addressed accordingly.

No accident, i just want to say the recall fix is taking too long.it is over two years since this defect was revealed.the repair needs to be completed.

We have a 2003 toyota avalon which we purchased new from toyota dealership.it has an outstanding air bag recall dated january 27, 2015.we keep getting told we will be notified when parts are available but this is getting ridiculous.i talked to their service dept again on friday, oct 23rd and they told me they still have no info on parts availability for this repair.what can you do to get this moving?

I received a safety recall notice from toyota in january 2015.the instructions say they areworking on a remedy for the srs ecu.i have called them twice and submitted a complaint to you once regarding the unreasonable delay in implementing the 'remedy'.they continue to say to wait until they have replacement parts.it is beginning to feel like a stalling process waiting for my persistence to weaken.the potential problem includes reports of inadvertent airbag deployment.someone needs to provide them with some encouragement.is that your job?

We took our vehicle to mann toyota in prestonsburg, ky for a recall repair to the air bag system. The problem is much worse now after they said they replaced the wiring harness. The air bag light is coming on much more frequently now. Now they are saying we have to pay them to get a scan on the vehicle.

Rec'd both notifications last year, but this exceeds reasonable amount of time waiting for a fix.one day last spring (2015) i had just started the car while in my driveway.the airbag indicator lite stayed on longer than usual.also, my seat belt tightened up on me by itselfwhile driving in town.i also smelled hot wires another time. I called toyota several times and was told the part is unavailable, though i explained my issues.i requested the airbag be disconnected which they refused to do.i called toyota again on 2/22/16.they said the partis in, but the manager of the dealership (toyota) states they won't replace it in my vehicle unless the airbag light is on.does that mean i will have fair warning?does that mean i will have to drive a dangerous vehicle about 50+ miles to the nearest dealer to have it fixed at that time?this is nuts!i am angry!i will be calling the federal trade commission next, which traffic safety referred me to.i still owe $4,400 on my car and will be unable to trade it in without the recall being completed.

I just received a recall notice on my 2003 toyota avalon which seems to be saying there is a problem but just be careful in your use of the vehicle until we get around to correcting the problem. This is the mostridiculous thing i have ever heard. Is this a customer risk problem or not? in other words, it i do not want to take the risk of the air bag deploying while driving, i would have to park the car until toyota decides to fix the problem. I want this problem fixed right away, even if it means me paying for the repairs and seek reimbursement. How should i proceed?

Airbag lights blink. Brought the car in to two toyota dealers and they said that there is a recall on this item however they do not have the parts to fix the problem. Car was in shop for over a week till i finally got tired of the stalling tactic. It appears that toyota is not complying with their agreement to fix the problem.in a different dealership they said they do have the parts but have no available appointmentsforquite some time. Am getting very concerned that this dangerous situation is not being handled properly and responsibly.

On this date the car was recalled for a steering column upper bracket replacement.todaymarch 19th, we took the vehicle to our regular mechanic for front brakes and to check because the key will come out of the ignition when the car isturned off and in drive or reverse rather than park.it was also pointed out to us by our mechanic that the steering wheel no longer locks which has been the case since they did the recall work but we just realized today. He then proceeded to tell us about the recall and we explained we had taken it in for the bracket.so, in short, since toyota replaced the bracket on this recall, the steering wheel no longer locks and thekey will come out in drive when the car is turned off, which should not occur.

The electronic control module went out on my 2003 toyota avalon. I was denied my claim for reimbursement for the $ 760.00 charge as it was a defective part.

The recall notices was received in april, 2015. But the part needed to fix the problem was not available. The recall notices said "toyota is preparing sufficient parts to support installation of sub-wire harness....we will send another notification when preparation are complete". My concern is that me and my family are currently driving around in an unsafe vehicle. The recall notice went on to say "the front airbag and/or seatbelt pretensioners could inadvertently deploy" my question is when is this problems going to be fixed. I have not taking this car on a major trip since this recall because i feel my family is at risk. I would appreciatea response to this inquiry. This recall correction need to be completed. On 4/01/03, i leased a 2003 toyota avalon xl from prestige toyota of ramsey, n.j.by the time i signed all of the paperwork and took possession of the car, it had become dark outside.the display of gear positions (p, r, n, d, 2, l) which was obvious in daylight, was now impossible for me to distinguish.by the time i arrived home, my eyes were strained from trying to read the letters, thus creating a hazardous driving experience.from dusk to dawn, it is unnerving to search for letters on the dash board panel.while all other indicators are illuminated, the gear position panel is not.the letters are of a light white color and are enclosed withina thin-lined green neon square which blurs the letters even more.i returned to the dealership the next day to voice my concern and request an exchange for a safer vehicle, but i was told this was not possible. In addition, the dealership was unable to repair this defect.i have made phone calls to the dealership, toyota customer relations (#200304030875)(tel.# 800-331-4331), my lease company (southtrust bank) and state senator tom morahan, as well as a visit to the attorney general at consumer affairs in white plains, ny,all to no avail. The auto surges forward as i'm trying to stop either at a stop light or parking spot. This has happened 3 or 4 times and my mechanic said the only way to fix it would be for it to happen while he was driving it. There's no pattern to when it happens but it's scary and i'm afraid to let my wife drive it. It happened yesterday as i was coming to a complete stop before entering a 2 lane highway. The other times it happened was pulling into a parking spot and applying the brakes to stop. I now put the car in neutral when it happens and the engine is racing away. Putting my foot on the brake isn't enough to come to a compete stop. I've read other complaints about this happening with no honest answer for correcting it. Mostly trail and error. Toyota has to know the answer but there's no service bulletins from them. I'm afraid that it's going to cause a serious accident or bodily injury to me or my wife. Nhtsb has got to look into this asap. P.s. My car has 71000 miles on it.

The engine started cold and revved to 2500 rpm and then oscillated between 2500 and about 3000 rpm and never slowed down.i put the car in drive and drove it the block and a half to my house using the brake to stop at the only stop sign on the route but stopping was difficult.the next morning i experienced the same ultra-fast idle and drove the car on an errand that was about 2 miles distant.the same pattern persisted but the brakes were heating up and smelling from frequent use in keeping the car within the city speed limit. It also stressed the automatic transmission while braking against the fast motor.i started shifting from drive to neutral and coasting to control the speed while the engine speed oscillation continued.i parked the car back home and had a tow truck take it to marietta toyota where the diagnosis was to replace the idle control motor at a cost of $669.00 less a $99.00 negotiated discount. That service solved the problem but the problem had the potential to overheat the brakes, cause one to coast in neutral without ideal control of the car in an emergency, etc.

The contact owns a 2003 toyota avalon.while driving approximately 65 mph on normal road conditions, the vehicle responded slowly when the brake pedal was depressed.the check engine warning indicator illuminated on the instrument panel intermittently.in addition, there was excessive oil consumption.the vehicle was taken to the authorized dealer and they stated that the failure was related to oil sludge build up.the technician recommended that the engine be repaired or replaced.the failure occurred on nine separate occasions.the vehicle has not been repaired.the failure mileage was 88,000 and current mileage was 100,858.

Our 2003 toyota avalon has experienced several occurrences of sudden acceleration.my wife took the car to our toyota dealer and both times they said that it was due to the floormat sticking under the gas pedal.the mat was removed and it still has the problem.while i was driving it down the highway, i let off the gas to slow down and it started to speed up.i put the car into neutral and the engine started to rev up and down from 1000 rpm to 2500 rpm.this continued for a couple of minutes until i was forced to pull over to the side of the road and turn the engine off and restart it.(this is always the fix...turn off the engine and restart it.it seems to reset the computer).this problem started over a year ago and continues to occur almost monthly.this vehicle is not included in the recall and even if it was, i don't feel that the problem has a fix, yet.we have to continue to drive the car because we can't afford another one and the resale value has plummeted.just last week my wife was stopped by a dps officer for speeding from a stop light.she did not even have her foot on the gas pedal.she explained what had happened and was not ticketed.

The contact owns a 2003 toyota avalon. The contact stated that the rear brake lights were permanently illuminated. The vehicle was taken to kendall toyota (10943 s dixie hwy, miami, fl 33156) where it was diagnosed that the rear brake light sensor was damaged and needed replacement. The battery was also replaced. After the vehicle was repaired, the brake pedal traveled all the way down to the floorboard and the vehicle did not accelerate. For the past year and a half, a strong odor of fuel was present inside the cabin. The vehicle was taken to several independent mechanics, but the cause of the odor could not be determined. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failures and a complaint was filed. The approximate failure mileage was 25,000.

I believe that toyota is covering up the real cause of the acceleration of the engine while driving.it happened to me while i was driving and was very frightening.the engine begin to speed up automatically and i could not stop it with my brakes.i put the car in neutral and then stopped.the engine continued to race.i took the car to the local toyota dealer the next day and it did the same thing.it reached speeds of 70+mph without me touching the pedal.the toyota dealership replaced the idle air control valve pn. 22270-0a060.i have not had a problem since.toyota has tried to blame this problem in the media on the floor mats and now the accelerator pedal.i pray that no one else will suffer injuries or death.this problem can easily be fixed but it is costly (over $450.00).toyota seems to be looking for the cheap, easy fix.

The subject of this complaint is my 2003 toyota avalon lx which had a total mileage ofapproximately 17,100 miles.this vehicle was last serviced at 9,000 miles plus. On april 29, 2014 the subject vehicle was parked in the back parking lot of a small mini mall at 3601 e. Foothill blvd.,pasadena, california.afterwe finished shopping at the mini mall, we returned to the our vehicle and strapped ourselves in the car with our seatbelts.when i turned on the ignition of the subject vehiclei had my left foot on the parking brake and my right foot on the driving brake.after the vehicle started, i released my left foot from the parking brake and shifted the gear to the drive position whenmy carunintentionally accelerated forward.i tried toslow or stop my car by pressing on driving brake but to noavail.i estimate my car traveled approximately 200 feet beforethe left front of my car hit the right rear of a honda fit and concrete planter.the collision with the honda fit pushed it into a honda crv that wasparked in front of the honda fit.there were no injuries to anyonehowever.my airbags did not deploy.

2003 toyota avalon xls. Stalled while driving. Had to leave the car in street and walk home. Would not restart for at least 30 minutes. Also would start, then stall and not restart for at least 30 minutes on other occasions intermittently. This was very concerning because the engine would just turn off during driving and not restart. Took to b&d auto repair, who could not replicate problem and then called toyota dealership in carlsbad who told them was probably the idle air control valve as they had been finding this an issue with avalons. So b&d auto replaced the idle air control valve and the problem never recurred. This cost us $500. I have the receipt for the date of 5-5-2006 repair. Our friends have the same vehicle, same year and they began to have the same difficulty with their 2003 avalon a few weeks later and had to have the same repair done and their problem then went away as well. Today, i phoned b&d auto and bernie ( the man who took care of my car in 2006) informed me that they are currently having similar problemswith approximately onetoyota vehicle per week, and they are replacing the idle air control valves. He stated that this includes rav 4, tacoma, camry, avalon, and forerunners. I am letting you know this information because today the wall street journal had an article that states this is a problem with 2006 toyota corollas and matrix vehicles. This is obviously much farther reaching than this article states and i hope it will be investigated further because of the danger of this difficulty to all of those driving or occupying a vehicle when this happens. I am wondering if there have been accidents or deaths due to this dangerous problem? i was very concerned that my car would turn off on the high speed lane of the freeway. I was so relieved when this was repaired and i wasn't afraid to drive my car again.

As i was backing out from a space in a parking lot, my car suddenly accelerated and i had a hard time getting it to stop with the brake pedal. The wheels were turned in a sharp left position. The engine sounded like it was at a high rev. The right side of my car crashed into two cars on the opposite side of the parking lot aisle before coming to a halt. The whole event lasted just a few seconds. Fortunately, no one was injured.

I drove into a parking spot, put my car into park & released my foot from the brake. The car rolled back as if it was in reverse. I applied the brakes, shifted the gear into drive & drove back up into the space. I put the car back into park, released the brakes, only to have the car roll back again. I pulled back up into the parking spot, shifted back into park & this time put on parking brakes. I got out of the car & went into the store. When i came back, my car would not start. Not only would it not start, it would not make any sort of noise (which is how i knew it wasn't the battery). I called for a tow & the tow truck operator was able to get it to start in gear neutral.

The gas pedal on our 2003 toyota avalon began sticking when car was 5 years old. It was most noticeable when the car was stopped and we wanted to begin moving. It became hard to depress until a good bit of pressure, and then the car would lurch forward or backward very quickly. We tried lubricating the pedal mechanism but that didn't work. The dealer said they fixed it at our 100,000 mile check but it still stuck. The recent problem with toyota gas pedals may have been around a lot longer than thought.

Car accelerated on its own put on brakes and put in neutralhas not done that again when i went to toyota to report incident was brushed ofhave never felt safe in this car since.

There have been repeated disc brake mechanism (corrosion) failures where brake drags and wears or have "locked up" and dragged enough to effect steering.has been serviced by both local toyota dealer and independent service shop.note: lot better results and and less expensive service from local shop.similar concerns have been widely reported on internet, e.g., car value / problem websites and reports.

2003 avalon toyota: every morning, coming out of the garage, steering right produces strange sound as well as stiffness. Reported to toyota dealer last week after 6 months of this experience. They have not heard anything from toyota yet. Told us to wait till mid august for more info from toyota.

The steering started to bind when it started getting cold. It got to the point where it felt like no power steering existed intermittently. While making turns it would also bind, making it hard to straighten the wheel back as i am coming out of the turn, which was the most dangerous situation.initial repair shop suggested changing the serpentine belts. That did not make a difference. Next i took it to the dealer, who replaced upper steering shaft. This seemed to improve but not solve the issue. I just went back, and now they replaced the steering rack and lower shaft. Now it appears corrected. While looking on the web, this seems to be a common occurrence, so i feel this should qualify as a safety recall.

2003 toyota avalon. Consumer states unintended acceleration *tgwthe consumer stated over a year ago, he was driving into a garage, when the vehicle suddenly, and he hit a brick wall. The consumer realized he accidentally, hit the accelerator, instead of the brake. In 2003, the steering column did not telescope and tall drivers, such as him had a problem selecting the degree of tilt on the steering column.because he could not extend the steering column, on that occasion, he tilted the steering wheel down, but further than he usually did. The result, was that the steering wheel blocked his right leg from moving to the left.

The paint seems to be chipping very easily on my new avalon with the desert sand mica color. You would think i drove behind gravel trucks the whole time i've had it. And i've only had it for 6 months, and 8500 miles. Looking at it you'd think it had a lot more miles on it.*la

When the steering wheel is in the drive position, it can't be seen from 40mph and up. In order to set the cruise control, the driver would have to take the attention off of the road because they're unable toview the speedometer due to the steering wheel or the dashboard design.tsthe brakes needed excessive effort in order to stop.upon the second application of the brakes, the cruise control was disengaged.scc

We have owned this vehicle for 3 years. The vehicle pulls to the left. The dealership realigned the vehicle several times, but this did not correct the problem. We also had a separate garage who specializes in wheel alignments, earlier this year, try and align it.he stated that the parts of the vehicle that control this were switched,( i.e. The left wheel part was in the right wheel part, and etc.) when we took it back to the local dealership, they stated there was no problem.the tires are in good condition and do not exhibit abnormal wear and tear.the vehicle still pulls to the left.

There are two incidents when i was driving my 2003 toyota avalon & the vehicle accelerated & i was unable to get it to stop.i have detailed the incidents below:12/3/2009- i, [xxx] , was driving my avalon on portage rd when i hit another car in the re & was pushed into another lane of traffic & over an embankment & hit another car which was pushed into 2 other cars.i was cited for the incident.i had tried to put on the brake but there was nothing therefore & the vehicle accelerated forward which caused the accident.2/23/10- on this date i was leaving to take my husband to the doctors.i was again driving my 2004 toyota avalon, we had backed out of the garage & were at end of the driveway, i was too close to the snow bank on right hand side so i had to pull up, at that time i put the car back into drive to pull up some & the vehicle took off & i could not stop it.my husband was yelling for me to hit the brake but i couldn't get the vehicle to stop & we ran into our garage door & the vehicle ended up in the house.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

I have an erratic acceleration problem with my 2003 toyota avalon car that i have not been able to resolve with toyota. The car does not go forward when i depress the accelerator pedal from stationery position. When the pedal is depressed further, it lurches forward with a jolt. It does not happen all the time but is noticeable many times. I got my car checked by the local toyota dealer and they suggested that i get the throttle body assembly cleaned. I got this work done. It seemed to have improved for a while but the problem came back again. I took the car back to same dealership on jan 3, 2013 and again on april 13, 2013 but they could not replicate the problem since it happens erratically and not all the time. I insisted that the problem does happen and they kept my car for almost a day but could not replicate it.this has become a safety issue for me especially when driving in a stop and go type of traffic.i have written a letter dated april 4, 2013 to the toyota headquarters in california but they tell me that the vehicle warranty has expired. This problem is similar to the erratic acceleration problems reported for other toyota cars in the press. I think toyota is responsible for fixing it at the earliest since it is becoming a safety issue for me now..

Her friend that was with her was really scared.
