2012 toyota 4runner. Consumer writes in regard to takata front passenger airbag inflator safety recall. *ldthe consumer requested to have a recall notice mailed to a current address.

Takata recalli keep getting flyers in the mail about the recall but every time i call the toyota dealership they say they can't get the replacement airbags to install in my car. What is going on? the flyers even say not to allow a passenger to sit in the front seat? how am i supposed to comply with that when this has gone on for a year now?

I am afraid to drive my car and toyo is taking too much time to fix the problem.

Takata recall: airbag replacement is not being performed in a timely fashion. I'm terrified to drive my 4 runner due to possible defect. This has been a extreme hardship on my family. I have been waiting for a replacement for months. I find this situation very unfair to the vehicle owner. I cannot trade my vehicle at this time, so i'm stuck with no option but to drive the defected vehicle and take a chance on being injured or dying, or park it for what 2 years? this is unacceptable.

Takata airbags: i received the interim notice from toyota recalling my front "passenger" airbag. Currently there is not a fix, so for liability purposes toyota recommends that no passengers should ride in the front seat while the vehicle is operating. The liability is on me! i received this notice the first of march, the recall date is january 9, 2017. What about the drivers air bag? seriously, should i not drive my car? i guess the liability falls back to takata and toyota if the drivers airbag malfunctions. This company has a continued problem with airbags. I have no confidence, in the fact, that there is an issue with the front passenger airbag, then all the takata airbags in the car are a potential hazard. Where are the recommendations for drivers, for other passengers, how to properly place booster seats to minimize injury or death. I curious to find out what other matters/issues have not surfaced to the consumer for all vehicles that are impacted by takata and their respective car manufacturers.

"takata recall"i contacted the auto dealer who sold the vehicle, in order to address the air bag issue. That was a couple of months ago. As of todat (dec 15, 2017) the dealer takes no action to fix it.

Takata recall. Toyota's response to the recall is unacceptable.i simply do not understand how they can justify telling people not to use their cars, without offering an solution, compensation or even an estimated timeline for the fix. How is it that they will offer a buy-program to tacoma and tundra owners over some rust, but i am offered nothing for a car that is inoperable?

Takata recall-- this remedy is taking too long to fix. I need every seat in my vehicle so the current suggestion to not have anyone sit in the front seat is not acceptable.

Takata recall - i have not received any information on when my car will be fixed.my son uses this for college and often transports fellow students.i bought this car for this purpose and according to advice, should not allow passengers in the front seat.toyota has not scheduled any contact with us to remedy the situation. This is now unacceptable.they should be held accountable to fix this situation immediately.

Takata recall ;went to the dealership with the 1st recall notice about defective airbags in hand and they told me there was no solution yet and i would recieve another notice. Recieved another notice that saidthat t k holdings is in chapter 11 . Dont know where th proceed from here.

Takata recall.i purchased my 2012 4runner in june 2016.i was not notified there was a recall (no. 16v-340) for the takata air bag on the front passenger side.i have since received recall #17v-006.i thought it was not lawful for a dealer to sell a vehicle under recall without notifying the new owner.i was not notified of the takata recall, or i would not have purchased the vehicle.do i have any recourse?

Takata recall- i have received notice of the airbag recall, but a remedy is not yet available.it states, "we recommend that you do not operate the vehicle with an occupant in the front passenger seat."we are a family of 6, so this is not an option for us.toyota has known about this issue since 2013 but is just now recalling.i am paying 650.00 a month for a vehicle that, per this letter, i cannot make full use of.

Takata recall-i received an interim notice months ago that i cannot use the front passenger seat. I have 2 car seats filling the back and need to use the front seat for adults. It is ridiculous that it has taken so long to remedy this and not be able to travel safely with another adult?!?!

Takata recall.i received a recall notice for my vehicle a few months ago, and yet the replacement part is not available yet.the recall notice says that i shouldn't allow passengers to sit in the front seat of my car.so i'm just frustrated that this problem is not fixed, and it's inconveniencing my everyday life.

Takata recall.this recalled was published on 9 january 2017 and it still shows a status of "incomplete with a remedy not yet available".yet, there is a safety risk of serious injury or death.i have contacted my local service dealer and the only recommendation is that we not use the front passenger seat.this is virtually impossible if you have a family.we are also of transferring to europe on military orders in june and haven't heard back from them.if the manufacturer has failed or is unable to remedy this safety recall for your vehicle in a timely manner, please contact the nhtsa vehicle safety hotline at: 1-888-327-4236 or tty: 1-800-424-9153 or file an online complaint with nhtsa.

I received a notice that the front passenger airbag in my 2012 toyota 4runner has been recalled. When i called the dealership they referred me to toyota customer care. Customer care said that they are not expecting a solution until december 2017 and that i'm not supposed to have anyone sit in the front seat until it is replaced. When i asked about an equivalent rental for the next 8 months they referred me back to the dealership. The dealership does not offer an equivalent rental. This is very frustrating since i would never drive or purchase the rentals available to me through toyota. At this point i would like to know what the buy back program is for my unsafe vehicle.

The contact owns a 2012 toyota 4runner. The contact stated that the air bag indicator was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to bob tyler toyota (located at 7201 pensacola blvd pensacola, fl 32505 850-478-9999) who stated that the recall remedy parts were on backorder until december of 2017. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and did not offer assistance. The failure mileage was 50,000.

I was first one waiting at the light, traveling eastbound on butler/airport rd. When the light turned green, i proceeded through the intersection. When i was about halfway to three-quarters through the intersection, i noticed a mini cooper approaching rapidly, heading northbound on shute rd. I knew she was going to hit me, so i attempted to swerve left to avoid a high impact collision. I didn't hear her brakes until the point of impact, she t-boned my 4runner hitting me in the rear passenger side near the wheel well. My 4runner than tipped and rolled upside down. I waited until the 4runner stopped moving, unbuckled the seat belt and flipped over to the ground (now the roof of the vehicle). I looked at the window and attempted to pull/push the side curtain airbag out of the way, i even tried kicking it a few times, but it was still inflated and wouldn't budge. I remembered that i kept a pocketknife in the center console. I looked for it, and saw it on the ground. I got the nail file section open, but that didn't do anything to the airbag. I then heard someone outside the vehicle shout 'help is on the way, they'll get you out'. I asked her if she could help me cut the airbag, and handed her the knife through the gap between the airbag and the car frame. She tried to cut the cord that connected the airbag to the car but that didn't work, so i told her just to slit the bag itself. She was able to do that, and helped me get out of the vehicle. I took pictures of the vehicle overturned a few minutes later, and the passenger side airbag was still inflated. I can provide this picture upon request. The vehicle was totaled, and is now property of state farm, claim #[xxx]. My concern is that if there was a vehicle fire and i did not have a pocket knife, i would not have been able to exit the vehicle.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Takata recall. It has been 10 months since the recall was announced on january 9, 2017, yet there is still no solution/remedy for it by toyota. The recall status is still listed as "recall incomplete. Remedy not yet available". In the meantime, thousands of us 4runner drivers are at risk to injury or death due to this defect. That is unacceptable.

Takata recallhi, i do not believe my toyota dealer (dotson toyota, auburn, wa) or toyota is re-mediating the airbag defect in a reasonable time.neither the dealer or toyota is able to provide me an estimated timeframe for repair/replacement of the airbag, and this is unacceptable.recommending to not operate the vehicle with an occupant in the front passenger seat without an estimate timeframe for repair/replacement is completely unrealistic and unacceptable.please advise.

I received a recall notice for this vehicle (vehicle purchased in zone a per the recall).i inquired about a rental from toyota corporate as stated would be allowed in the remedy notice.they informed me that my passenger front seat is safe to sit in until at least may of 2018 (contrary to the recall remedy notice), but will not provide in writing that the front passenger airbag is safe/not defective through may of 2018.it seems to be against public policy to tell customers it is safe to sit in a seat that is dangerous, especially when the recall itself was already phased in.toyota filed a dir with you on january 10, 2017 which involves my vehicle.

Takata recall - is taking much too long.my concern and toyota warning expressed about the recall is it creates a danger to front seat passengers and does not allow me to use the vehicle front seat.this is very inconvenient as well as unsafe.ii have contacted my dealership andkeep getting notices but nothing happens.when will remedy be available?

Takata recall - toyota will not replace my toyota 4r airbags. Toyota says they have no parts & don't know when they will have parts. I can't keep driving around with defective air bags

Takata recall - this problem was identified in jan 2017 and it is nearly sept 2017 and there has been no resolution.i feel that this is a major safety concern to my family.

Takata recall.toyota's letter states not to use the front passenger seat while they figure out a solution. We purchased this vehicle to use it as a 5 passenger vehicle and we need to use all the seats. Please get toyota/takata to replace this airbag as soon as possible!

Takata recall - i got a notice in the mail about this defect in my vehicle almost a year ago. It claims that whomever rides in the passenger side is at risk of potential death due to faulty airbag components. It goes on to warn that no one should ride in the passenger seat until a remedy has been established to fix the problem. This is our main vehicle and mode of transportation. My wife has to regularly ride in the passenger side of the vehicle, putting her life in constant danger, because we have no other option available. I keep checking week after week to see if a plan has been implemented to rectify this situation, but week after week nothing has been done. My patience is growing thin, and i feel helpless to keep my family safe.

I am the owner of a 2012 toyota 4runner which has a current air bag recall. The parts were not available before our military pcs transfer overseas.they became available after my move overseas, but toyota has not been able to assist in replacing my airbags.i am not getting ready to transfer back to the u.s. And this might affect my shipment of pov.any assistance is greatly appreciated.-lcdr [xxx], uscg (living in the netherlands)information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Takata inflator ; the remedy or fix is taking too long . I have a nephew with a sequoiaand he said his was fixed already..i have had numerous inquiries from dealer wanting me to trade up. Why would dealer want mine unless they could fix and sell quickly. This does not pass the smell test.

We are unable to have our car airbags repaired after contacting the dealer for the recall due to a lack of remedy.we live in zone a and the lack of remedy for such a dangerous defect (exploding airbags) is unfathomable.please pursue takata for a remedy aggressively, before we pay the price.

The backup camera does not work consistently. While not moving and then shifiting into reverse, the screen does not change or changes to something other than the camera. It usually stops working after several stops and shifts into reverse. Sometimes it goes 2 or 3 days without displaying and then starts working again another day.

Toyota uses new green (environment friendly) wiring that is tasty to rodents and other pest- they are aware that it can attract animals to eat the wiring and electrical systems on their vehicles and refuse to cover the damages incurred on the warranty - they refer the customers to seek monetary aide from their insurance company - in my case it was $3000.00 in damages to my vehicle for a rat eating the wires /electrical system. My insurance paid for it - but how can i be assured it will not occur again.?? toyota needs to be responsible.

I was driving in the freeway beltway 08 when tehran trasmision of my car run out last saturday02/04/2018

I came home last night at about 9:30 pm and parked the car in the garage.this morning at 7:30 am i went into the garage and heard a buzzing sound coming from near the rear wheels of the car.my best guess was the fuel pump was still running(i hada different problem with a fuel pump not running when the ignition was turned on with a 2000 jaguar about a year ago).i turned the ignition on and off without cranking the engine, the buzzing continued.i started the 4runner, ran it for about 20 seconds, and shut the engine off.buzzing stopped.

Squirrels keep eating my electrical wiring and the wiring harness. They access the engine bay through the openings in the wheel wells after jumping on top of the tires. The results have disabled my abs, 4wd, limited slip, etc. I've tried rodent repellent, fox urine, and parking in the garage. Nothing helps. Toyota needs to stop using soy based wiring, and they need to close the holes in the wheel wells.

After oil change the eco light is not on, keep offthe oil used was 5w30.

Approximately 7:45 am on 9/18/19, my son while coming home from work, had an accident. I was not with him at the time. When he showed up at home after the incident, he explained how he was unable to stop the vehicle before it collided with the vehicle in front. He articulated that when he applied the brakes, it was as if he vehicle sped up. Remembering years back during a presidential campaign, this was an issue with some other toyota's. The verdict was the place mats interfered with the pedals. When i released the vehicle from the tow lot, i checked and this was not the case as the floor mat was secure.i have driven toyota vehicles since the early ninety's and have owned five. Checking for recalls as a result of this i found multiple incidents on record. The panic braking system surprised me the first time i experienced it. Low speeds (25mph or less) i thought a true asset but because of the quick stopping, higher speeds worried me. Never needed the panic brake but once.some how, i believe the communication (ai) with the panic, anti-lock, braking system, and the way it communicates speed and conditions is the culprit.the insurance company is in possession of the 4runner and i still have the title. Please contact me to advise how to proceed. They seem anxious to get the title but i am animate to know if conditions or vehicle defects played a part in the accident. When i mentioned this to the insurance company, they avoided the issue.

I was driving in the freeway beltway 08 when tehran trasmision of my car run out last saturday02/04/2018

The contact owns a 2012 toyota 4runner. The contact stated that while driving at an unknown speed, an abnormal smell emitted into the vehicle and it became extremely hot around his feet. The contact stated that the vehicle made a loud pop noise and after merging to the side of the road he noticed flames coming from the front passenger side of the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to a dealer. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 49,000.

Got code p2440 and was quoted 2000. For repair and only just 47107 miles

This vehicle does not get anything close to the 22mpg highway miles per gallon as posted on the window sticker.the dealership tells me that the computer is faulty and does not calculate the mileage properly and that is the way they all are. But, i have all the receipts for every tank of gas purchased since new. This vehicle has only been getting 17.8 miles to the gallon on the highway on average.i've complained to the dealership twice but get the same answer.i can't depend on the on-board computer read out as to the fuel mileage, they tell me - "it is inaccurate".yet, when a full 20.5 gallons of gas are filled into the tank, the computer calculates 360 miles til empty. And after 310 miles, the fuel waring light comes on.i don't believe the dealership as i have the receipts to prove that the computer is accurate.the mpg are just extremely exaggerated.i would not have bought this vehicle knowing that thefuel consumption was going to be off by nearly 20% .also the steering wheel continues to split at the bottom of the wheel.i will go back to have a second wheel replaced for my next service, in a few weeks.

Leaving the sonic drive in parking lot my vechile died as i was turning on the street. It showed that the gas tank had a 1/4 tank of gas but the tank was empty

The contact owns a 2012 toyota 4runner. The contact stated that while depressing the brake pedal to stop the vehicle, a loud abnormal noise was present and the brake pedal had to gradually be depressed in order to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who was unable to diagnose the failure. The contact also indicated that while parked on an incline and with the emergency brake engaged, the vehicle rolled backwards. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 28,000.

I purchased a 2012 toyota tacoma from cfl toyota.the vin is [xxx]at the first maintenance, i reported instances of "unintended acceleration." the cfl toyota mechanic and, later the toyota of orlando customer representative reported that the event is related to the fact that for toyotas, the engine is used to "gear down" and assist in braking.i have experienced unintended acceleration about 6 times in the two years that i have owned the truck. On 1-may-2014, at the sandlake road entrance to lowes hardware near john young parkway in orlando fl, while stopped in line to enter a highway, my toyota "lurched" (unintended acceleration) despite that fact that my foot was on the brake. I caused damage to my car and the car in front of me.i had previously twice reported this phenomena to two toyota dealers.no injuries were reported at the scene.however, the driver of the car which was struck is seeking medical evaluation. I was cited for careless drivinginformation redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

While stopped at a red light on level ground, vehicle began to creep forward with foot still pressed firmly on brake.unless brake is pressed almost to the floor, the vehicle tends to creep forward while stopped and in gear.paid more attention to brakes over the next couple days and also noticed that the vehicle will start rolling when shifted into gear with foot on the brake if brake is not pressed almost all the way to the floor.the problem seems to be more defined when it is hot outside (>95 degrees).took vehicle to dealership and technician noted that "soft brake feel" is a characteristic of this vehicle.no repair was accomplished or offered.

The brakes of the vehicle slip. When you are on the freeway and you need to stop for accidents and you brake the vehicle slips and almost wants to role over. When the vehicle comes to complete stop after a few seconds it moves forward almost 6 inches. There could be several reasons why this could happen with abs systems, could be hydraulics, could be the sensors, it could be pulsation. Diagnosis for this requires precision not a simple test drive. The dealership says its normal and that's how limited slip differential works but it slips often and on even roads. The dealership wants me to duplicate the problem for them and i won't want to get on the highway at freeway speeds to show them how the brakes slip. Its a safety concern.i called the manufacturer since i am still under warranty and they say they wont do anything. Bottom line the brakes are not safe and i am worried about a roll over or a serious accident.

Applied brakes firmly at yellow light and vehicle nose dived, brakes locked and vehicle stated to skid.let up on pedal and applied brakes again and vehicle stopped without further drama.did not feel the antilock brake system pulse the pedal or hear the system growl.second time this has happened under same circumstances.plenty of room to stop before the light changed from yellow to red.light brake application always required to avoid vehicle nose diving.light application of brakes doesn't slow it very well.brakes seem to be very touchy.last vehicle was a toyota highlander which had no brake problems.

The contact owns a 2012 toyota 4runner. The contact stated that while driving 40 mph and attempting to brake, the vehicle seized and caused the vehicle to be thrown forward. The contact was able to keep driving the vehicle after the failure. The contact stated the failure was due to the material being used to manufacture the struts. The failure recurred three times. The contact had not taken the vehicle to a mechanic or dealer for inspection or repair. The current mileage was 5,000. The failure mileage was 2,000.

After oil change the eco light is not on, keep offthe oil used was 5w30.

The wiring in my steering column connected to the horn in the clock spring has caused my horn to not work . I got my car diagnosed and they said that the clock spring needs to be replaced. It cost $1020.31 to get fixed. They told me it was nothing i caused or could have prevented .i feel this is a safety hazard to me and everyone else out on the road. It's illegal to not have a horn and toyota refuses to fix it . Apparently there was a recall on some older model 4runners for the same problem.i feel unsafe knowing i cannot use my horn and that it may cause my air bag to not deploy . Can someone please help me before someone gets seriously injured.

While driving on highway the steering wheel shutters or vibrate at highway speeds. Replaced tires with new tires, alignment, and problem still exists, rotated and balanced tires and problem still exists. Read that toyota has had a problem with the r& r steering rack preload spring. But toyota denies any problems with the 4runners. After much research i have found many posts concerning the same problems. This is a safety concern when i am constantly replacing or rotating tires to avoid chopping in the tires. Toyota says there is noting wrong.

Liftgate struts on hatch failed yesterday. While i was getting something out of the back of my 2012 4 runner one of the liftgate struts gave out and the hatch came down on me and hit me in the head. I have knot and a sore neck from this. My concern is what if it had been one of my children back there getting something from the car when it gave way, they would of been seriously injured. I have read several forums online and this seems to be a very common thing for the lift gate struts to go out, i don't understand why this is not a recall.

My vehicle frame and gas tank protector shield is rusting abnormally way faster than it should be.

I was involved in a crash. I checked the rear view mirror preparing to brake in traffic. Before my eyes returned to the front i was crashing into the back of the vehicle in front of me pushing him into the car in front of him according to the driver in front of me. I have no idea how i got so close so fast i believe when i went to break the gas peddle was too close to the brake peddle also above the brake peddle. At the time of the crash i was in shock.and i couldn't explain what happened. Now i believe the right side of my right foot as i went to break my foot hit the gas first causing my car to go forward and caused the accident i only have a size 10 1/2 shoe this happened on a city st. An the car was in motion approx 25 mph. The rental i was provided has the brake higher then the gas and a normal distance from each other. Before the crash my spacing was good. I just glanced in the rear view mirror my foot was off the gas i was preparing to break because of the traffic in front before applying the break is when i glanced into the rear view mirror and like i said before my eyes came back to the front the air bag went off because of the crash. I also thought the car in front may have had his abs go off because he was too close to the car in front of him.but i do not to point the finger at anyone it all happened in a matter of seconds i never experienced so frightening except for flying as a gunner in a uh1e in the war. Again i do not know for certain but the above is the only way it must have happened. The weather was dry and clear is there any other reports of other people feeling the gas an break peddle are too close or if the brake should be set higher than the gas?

The backup camera does not work consistently. While not moving and then shifiting into reverse, the screen does not change or changes to something other than the camera. It usually stops working after several stops and shifts into reverse. Sometimes it goes 2 or 3 days without displaying and then starts working again another day.
