Takata recalli believe the toyota action plan is negligent in response to a known defect with potentially fatal consequences.as i have been notified by letter, my vehicle is equipped with the defective inflators and located in the region of most detrimental climate.the vehicle has also been in service long enough to invoke the known safety concern.both the problem and solution are known (unit replacement) yet toyota has no *current* schedule or recall action to replace the airbags.this is clearly a financial decision, not a safety decision nor an engineering decision.there is no justifiable reason to delay this process.the recommended interim solution (between now and an unspecified date) is to only operate the vehicle without a front seat passenger-- this is not a solution, as it leaves the vehicle non-functional to its primary purpose as a multi-passenger conveyance.this also neglects the fact that a high velocity projectile can cause great damage or injury whether a passenger is present or not.as a citizen and customer, i would like to formally file a complaint that the delayed recall process is completely unacceptable.
"takata recall",i no longer have a vehicle for long distance traveling because the recommended safety precaution no passenger in the front seat poses problems when performing daily activities, traveling for vacations and engaging in other family activities. If the airbags need to be replaced i respectfully request the service to be performed and completed before our next schedule vacation.if this can'tbe accomplished i would like to request a rental voucher for the same type of vehicle for our annual trip.the takata recall has render the vehicle practically useless for the intent and purpose of the purchase. How long before this is resolved?
Takata recalli received a recall in the mail this past week to no longer drive with a passenger in the front until a remedy becomes available.when i called the dealership to find out when i could replace my passenger side airbag they said it could be months from now before the part is available.i said that is not feasible for me to not take a passenger in my suv for months!i was told i could possibly rent a car for 4 days at a time only if i had a very valid reason to rent it. Also i would need to come back every 4 days with another valid reason to continue to obtain a rental vehicle.this is absolutely unacceptable and unreasonable!especially since toyota does not have an eta of when the replacement part will become available.
I purchased a 2010 toyota 4runner in december 2015, making payments every month. I called five different toyota dealers and one out of five was wonderful enough to protect our safety and made sure toyota gave us a rental until the part becomes available. The part was/is suppose to become available jan 2016. I feel better and safer driving a vehicle that i own and paying for with full coverage insurance. I understand toyota supplied a rental but i got this vehicle for my wife for a christmas present in 2016 and she has only got to drive it 8 months and it has been park since 08/2016.

The notice stated i would receive another notification soon, as to when and where to take my vehicle for repair. The notice also stated that it is advised not to have a party ride in the front passenger seat??? well, it has been over (7) months now and i am still driving with this danger present and unable to allow anyone to be seated in the front...(?) this matter needs to be resolved right away! i do not want to continue to await a notice for the date, time and place for repair. I want my vehicle repaired now, being that again- it's been over (7) months.

Takata recall. I am still awaiting the dealer in our city to tell me it is alright to bring my vehicle in for repair. Since originally getting the recall notice in 2016 and receiving a subsequent recall notice in june, i have been told by the service department that the parts for my vehicle are not yet available and i need to wait for another recall notice saying that my vehicle will be repaired. It is worrisome that car owners are still being fatally injured and safety instructions provided by the dealer say that the front passenger seat should not be used due to the possible case of injury in a head on collision. Is there some way to get this recall repair done more quickly?

My wife was at a red light waiting for the light to change when she was hit on the driver side front fender and tire area . No air bag deployed there is over 8,000 dollars in damages the other driver was moving 35+ mph at impact so now along with the whiplash and shoulder bruises and seat belts cuts there mental damage she feel the vehicle is not safe and is afraid to drive itwhen repaired in closing i feel at the speed of travel on impact the air bag should have deployed.
I lost use of my 4runner since august 2016.i called toyota several times and last talked to randall (888-270-9371 toyota case number 161-130-2456) on nov 30, 2016.randall does not have an estimated time to fix my vehicle.i asked for number of airbag fixed by toyota in california in each of the past 3 months and the total number of outstanding toyota with airbag recall issue.randal cited those info is not available to the public. I asked if toyota will buy my 4runner back at bluebook.randall said toyota does not buy vehicles that are under recall.there are 34 million vehicles under airbag recall, the production of replacement airbags is 1 million per month.without better info from toyota, it may take up to 3 years fix my 4runner.loaners are for short term remedies.when i bought the vehicle, i didnot anticiapte long term lost of use of it plus annual depreciation in value.i like to ask nhtsa to require the recall to be fixed within a specific time frame or the manufacturer to buy back the affected vehicle at bluebook.thank for your consideration.eric

Takata recall...my dealer is not able to resolve this in a timely manner.i am asking for the airbag to be disabled as i need the front seat for family members and for work.at work, my vehicle is utilized for police operations.this defect leaves me with only three seats (three passengers).this is not possible for my daily driving, and for my work responsibilities. The recall for takata airbags issued may 2016 goes unremidied as i have to continue to travel for work across multiple zones with high humidity. The suggestion to have no front passenger is ludicrous and has deemed my vehicle unfit for its purpose. "in the event of rupture, metal fragments may/will pass through the airbag, striking the occupant and result in injury or death." let's think about that for a moment as you drive you family members home.
Takata inflatorsi recieved my notice concerning the recall due to the takata inflator of the passenger airbag back in july 2016. Until now i keep reading that there is no remedy available yet. This is taking too long.

Takata recall.i have purchased my vehicle used and to date been unable to have passengers in my vehicle.prior to making our purchase decision we called toyota and was told airbag replacements for toyota 4runners are 2 weeks out, so we decided to purchase the car. We have contacted toyota every 2 weeks since our purchase and every two weeks we are told the same thing; "two more weeks."we were told we can not have a rental vehicle and feel as if we should not have purchased this vehicle.we are extremely disappointed in the lack of care and inconvenience this has caused to our lives.how do we get a realistic answer as to when this situation will be resolved??

An interim recall notice recommends no occupants in the front passenger seat due to possible airbag inflator rupture resulting in serious injury or death. That is unreasonable for the use of the vehicle without a recall date confirmation.the notice does not provide a date when the vehicle will be recalled for repair. We live in the highest risk zone c and my wife is afraid to drive the vehicle.
Takata inflator - it has been six months since my vehicle airbag was recalled and i have been unable to drive with a passenger.toyota cannot provide a time frame for when my vehicle will be repaired and will only provide a loaner vehicle if i leave my vehicle at the dealership.the dealership will not be liable for any damage done while they possess my vehicle.
Takata recall - over a year ago toyota sent me a recall notice telling me that my vehicle was considered unsafe to have anyone in the front passenger seat as it is potentially deadly due to an airbag defect.for over a year i have complied with this directive and not been fully able to utilize my vehicle as it is now only a four person vehicle vs. 5 person.recently i received my recall notice stating that toyota was finally able to fix this issue and the notice directed me to contact my local toyota dealer to have several parts replaced.upon contacting my local dealer i was told, "they show they are on back order at the moment so there is no eta on the exact date of when they will be in but there was one ordered for you specifically so when the parts do come in we will contact you."so basically i waited over a year for toyota to tell me they could finally fix this potentially deadly problem with my vehicle only for toyota to tell me they really can't fix it and don't know when they'll be able to.that's not okay.it's false advertising and a farce to customers who have been asked to not use their vehicle as purchased.additionally, my vehicle has 95,000 miles on it and i will want to sell it soon (preferably before it hits 100,000 miles, but who is going to buy a vehicle that can't be used in the manner in which it was intended.this issue is being unfairly addressed.
"takata recall".received recall no. 16v-340 in june 2016.toyota has yet to release the fix.quoting june 2017.i feel this is totally unacceptable to take one year to remedy this issue especially since they recommend that you do not ride in the front passenger seat.this is my only primary family vehicle and this request is not reasonable.toyota should be fined for not supplying a timely fix and putting my family at risk.
Takata recall i was notified on june 9, 2016 that it could be dangerous to ride in the passenger seat of my suv.i have contacted toyota corporate and the local toyota dealership regarding this matter.my suv in which i should be able to carry 5 passengers safely will only carry 4 safely.when can i expect this to be repaired.why has this not been addressed? i do not want to wait until an incident happens.

The front seatpassenger air bag has a takata air bag inflator and has been recalled for my vehicle located in zone a- florida. The propellant has been degraded by high humidity and can cause inflator rupture during deployment. This will project metal fragments through the airbag striking the occupants resulting in serious injury or death. With this warning i can not put anyone in my passenger seat for fear of even more serious injury from an accident or air bag deployment. It appears that toyota is trying to pass liability to the vehicle driver/owner with this important safety warning. There are no replacement parts expected for over 6 months and local toyota dealer that services my vehicle does not have a loaner vehicle in kind that will meet my transportation 4x4 requirements. I fear excessive injury to my passengers and can not allow my family to ride in my vehicle. The vehicle is like a time bomb waiting to explode upon impact. I want a new vehicle that is safe for my family.

Takata recall - received a letter from toyota in june 2016 stating that my front, passenger airbag was recalled due to "the propellant in these inflators may degrade after prolonged exposure to high absolute humidity and fluctuating high temperatures. Degraded propellant can cause inflator rupture during airbag deployment. In the event of an inflator rupture, metal fragments could pass through the airbag cushion material, striking the vehicle occupants, and result in serious injury or death." it has been 6 months and i have contacted toyota to find out what the hold up is and if there is an anticipated date for when i will have my air bag replaced. They stated that the reason is because they have a high number of vehicles and they are working on the oldest vehicles first and then moving up. They do not have an anticipated date for the remedy and their only suggestion is to not have anybody ride in the front, passenger side and if i do need to have my car at capacity then i need to get a rental!

Takata recall. I have received notification of the fact that the airbag in my vehicle is under a recall and have been asked not to use the vehicle until the faulty device has been replaced. I don't have another vehicle so i am forced to use my vehicle. The manufacturer has not contacted me with any remedy. In the mean time i am carefully driving my vehicle. I would like to know what the timetable of a replacement is or at least be kept updated of the manufacturers schedule.
Takata recall- i was notified in june 2016 about a defect in the front passenger airbag.since last year i have asked our toyota dealership in hawaii many times about the recall and when the parts will be in.all they can say is that they don't know and advised me not to have anyone sit in the front passenger seat till it is fixed.i don't understand why it is taking so long to get the parts in and to fix the airbag if it is such a major and dangerous problem.i have a family of 5 and it is almost impossible not to use the front passenger seat.this is really affecting the use of the suv.

Since then i have still been making my $510.00 dollar payment for the vehicle each month even though i cant drive it. Its now late january of 2017 its not fixed when i call toyota they cant give me a time frame as to a resolution to the air bag recall. I am very frustrated that i am paying for a vehicle i cant drive, the dealer does not want to trade it in so im stuck with a parked 4runner. I should not have to make payments on a truck i cant drive that money could of been put toward a vehicle that i can drive and enjoy, im currently driving a small rental that barely fits my 4 kids. Please help me, if there's no fix can they trade my vehicle or at lease reimburse me for the months that i am paying for a vehicle i am unable to operate. Thanks
Received recall 5/23/2016. As of 3/2/2017 the repair has not been made. I have celled toyota and visited the dealer may times. The dealer has no information and the representative from toyota could only tell me that the parts will be released and she no information as to when they will be released. It the inflator explodes it can be lethal. No-one has been able to use the passenger seat for 10 months and there is no relief in sight. Toyota is not providing due diligence. They have not obtained the repair parts and provide no useful information other than the original recall notice. They said they would provide a "loaner" . This is a canard. I was told my original vehicle would be impounded at the dealership until repaired. Obviouslystoring a vehicle unattended out in the elements for a year is not an option. I am requesting that you "stimulate" toyota to expedite the parts and let the owners affected know what is going on. Thank you.updated 04/12/2017

During a wreak going about 40 mph the airbags did not deploy. The car flipped and hit a tree then landed on the driver's side. The car left the street and went onto gravel road prior to loosing control.
Takata recall-it has been almost a year since the takata recall was initiated for my 2010 4runner.toyota states that i should not operate my vehicle with anybody in the passenger front seat.this is quite unacceptable! toyota should be required to provide a remedy for this extremely dangerous recall asap!
Takata recall.toyota will not provide recall information for repair. I have made numerous calls to the dealer and they are pretty cavalier about it.
Takata recall. On july 11, 2016 we received a recall letter from toyota regarding the need to replace the passenger side airbag. Our local toyota dealer informed us they do not have any replacement parts a this time and do not know when they will be available. We contact toyota corporate and they also stated they did not have any parts available and did not have an estimated time when parts will be available. The recall letter we received stated that we should not drive the vehicle or at least if we drive it there should not be anyone in the front passenger seat. Leaving the vehicle non-operational is not an option, nor is it reasonable to leave the front passenger seat empty. Toyota states that supplying us with a loaner vehicle is not an option unless we want to pay for it on our own. With no time frame for when parts might be available for repairs we are left with driving the vehicle with an known safety issue and no reasonable expectation of completing the repairs.

Takata recall. I have been trying for almost a year without success to have my recalled airbags replaced.i have been working with my local toyota dealer, kendall a toyota of anchorage, alaska and have been told repeatedly they are waiting on an install kit.meanwhile, my vehicle, (who spent the better part of its life in hot, humid texas, making the inflators even more unstable) remains unsafe for my family.please assist me in resolving this issue.

I have been advised that there is an important safety recall regarding the airbags in my toyota 4runner.toyota does not have a remedy yet, but has advised me that i should not have a passenger in my front seat.this is not a realistic option. Either toyota makes this remedy available in 14 days, or provides me a loaner car until the remedy is available.otherwise, i consider toyota fully liable for any incidents from an airbag inflating improperly and causing damage to anyone in the car.

Passenger side takata airbag inflator (zone a) recall not yet replaced.i live in houston, texas; one of the most humid places on earth.how soon may i plan on this inflator being replaced?
"takata recall"first of all... Taking so long in between notices about this issue is risky isn't it??? i mean, you know you'd have a lawsuit if more people were killed or injured by the airbag defect. Secondly, the toyota dealership that i called and scheduled the appointment with got me in the next day (which was great), but they failed to realize that they didn't even have the right part for my particular car! i drove almost an hour there, wasted an hour there and then they told me they were sorry and they didn't have the right part. They asked if i could bring it back tomorrow or leave it overnight, but when i asked if they'd give me something to drive they said they don't do that... So, someone dropped the ball! what if something happened to my airbag and someone was injured or killed? scott will toyota of sumter south carolina is the name of the dealership by the way. I will find another dealership and tell them to make sure that they have the right part first (because you know that's my job as the customer to pay for your screwups!!) feel free to contact me, thanks!

Takata recall. Toyota is unable to give me a vehicle in the same size as my current vehicle. I am also concerned with leaving my vehicle at a stand still for an undetermined amount of time. I have been made aware that any issues that arise from the vehicle sitting will not be fixed by toyota.
Takata recall- advised to discontinue use of the front passenger seat almost a year ago. Dealer has refused to replace it and has not offered a loaner vehicle. Inability to use the front passenger seat of a vehicle which is only 6 years old is unacceptable. This is causing a significant inconvenience, both professionally and personally.
Takata recall.for one year i have not been able to utilize my front passenger seat for fear of injury or death to my child or family.no solution is available as of today.
The satellite radio antenna has failed. It only receives a signal when vehicle is stationary. This appears to be a common problem with toyota and lexus owners, based on chat boards. The dealer "fix" runs over $1000, and involves replacingthe entire length of antenna harness; underneath headliner.
In 2017 i was reporting that the left brake light was working intermittently.in 2018 the socket assembly completely failed and was told that this was not an extended warrenty repair (milage was less then 100,000).in march 2021 the bake lights failed again.the dealership reported that the failure is intermittent but that the socket assembly needs to be replaced.
December 2014, found my driver's side tail light and brake light out. Replaced the bulb twice; did not work.replaced the fuse; did not work.took it to the local dealership in march 2015 which found the tail light has an "excessively high voltage" which continues to burn out the bulb.the repair was to replace the entire driver's side tail light assembly at a cost of $290.there was no recall or tsb so repairs came out of pocket.this is an extremely dangerous condition that could have resulted in a fire.this vehicle is designed to hold multiple passengers, of which my two children often accompany me.i'm not sure how safe it is to drive even after the repair.
Vehicle randomly and suddenly revs itself both from a stopped position and while driving.when driving downhill and i take my foot off the gas the vehicle will continue to rev itself around 3000 rpm then when i start to travel uphill it will down shift to about 1500 rpm.this seems backwards.tapping brakes does not cause it to downshift as needed, does not seem right to apply brakes and vehicle continues to rev itself higher nor does it seem right to take foot completely off the gas pedal and the vehicle continues to rev up.the only way to get it to idle is to apply pressure to the gas pedal and speed up which is dangerous when already going downhill.when travelling in a parking lot it rev itself up and will jump forward.from a stopped position such as in my driveway or at a stoplighti will press the gas and it will not go into drive but it will rev up to about 3500.none of these issues can be duplicated by the dealership of course.at one point they finally changed out some type of component in shift mechanism and that worked for about a week then the problem started again.there is never a code indicating there is anything wrong although the trac light will randomly come on and not turn off.i have been driving for 30 years and know when a car is not driving properly.this is my 2d 4 runner.first was an '03 and had similar issues but since was less than a year old i finally convinced the dealership to replace the transmission at toyotas cost.this one was purchased used and has more miles on it but it seems to be the same problems as my original.the only way i have been able to get dealership to believe me is to ask the service manager to drive my vehicle for several days then they are like oh i see what you mean.another incident wason a snow packed road.travelling 10mph when the vehicle downshifted i lost control.

22dec12 49f entered corner at 50mph, roads slightly wet.4runner decided the car was slipping and the panic beeps went off and the car applied brakes.unfortunately the computer straightened the car out and pointed it off the road.it took all my strength to turn the car back into the corner and finally the computer stopped the panic.after this i was unable to turn off the traction control via the enable/disable button until i had turned off the vehicle.i was following a car into the corner and that car navigated the corner fine.also, since owning this vehicle, 10 times it has assumed i was panic braking.literally, the 4runner slams on the brakes and brings the vehicle to a stop.luckily there has been no one behind me during these events.in the winter of 2011, the 4runner lost control on an icy road at fairly low speed.i couldn't do anything because the computer was trying to get control back.i suspect the computer got confused because i could have totally gotten control back.the traction control is never really off.you can turn it off, but it will kick back on when it thinks you are no longer in control of the vehicle.
After starting my vehicle the abs and stability control lights came on and never went off. My anti lock braking and traction control do not work now. I just found out toyota is recalling several models from 2012 and 2013 for the same problem and my vehicle is not listed. Do i have to have an accident or injury before it is added to the recall??? sounds like a lawsuit to me. Ihave a 2010 4runner.
The vehicle stability control is much too sensitive.as a turn is taken at speed the vehicle electronics take over and change the trajectory.for example, if turning on a curve to the right, if it senses a tire rotation discrepancy it steers the vehicle into oncoming traffic.this is reproducible demonstrating that this is the way that it is designed and not an unusual occurrence.changing tires helps somewhat but does not mitigate it entirely.i have brought the vehicle in many times to toyota under warranty and nothing is found and nothing is done to improve it.online help directly with toyota likewise has not lead to any improvement.this is a safety issue for many reasons including directing the vehicle into traffic and it is very disconcerting to suddenly have the vehicle take control of the steering when negotiating a turn, particularly on narrow roads or sharp turns.i even had toyota service advisor in the vehicle when it happened.this is an ongoing issue.
Timing chain cover oil leaki've been informed that my timing chain cover is leaking by the service at the toyota dealer. I researched the problem online and discovered it's quite frequent and has been an issue for over a decade. This should be covered by toyota as it is clearly a defect in the engine. The repair is close to $2000 out of pocket. Do a quick search and you will discover the problem is persistent and frequent and toyota is trying to treat it as a normal wear issue. Which it is not. Please force a recall of the timing chain cover in the 2010 to present 4runners. Thank you,[xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
While driving along at slower speeds the engine seems to quit for about 5sec then it comes on again. This is a dangerous condition. This could happen anytime.
The contact owns a 2010 toyota 4runner. While driving approximately 28 mph, the vehicle stalled and all the warning indicators illuminated. The contact coasted the vehicle to the side of the road. After multiple attempts to restart the vehicle, the contact had it towed to ira toyota of danvers (99 andover st, danvers, ma 01923), but they were not able to replicate the failure. The vehicle had been at the dealer since june 26, 2019 and was not diagnosed. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 83,000. The vin was unavailable.

Toyota rav4 2010 - on stop and go traffic i was going about 5 mph and i looked down for a second and rear ended another car. Before i hit the car i slammed on my brakes and based on my many years of driving experience (12+) i believe the car should have stopped but it did not. The incident was very minor. My car has a few scratches that may go away with just soap and water. The other car did not have any damage. I did have neck pain all week and i still have it on and off.after the incident i tried, on safe conditions, to go up to 20 mph and brake suddenly and noticed that the car looses braking power as you do this. The brakes full power is felt mid press (as they are half way down) but as they are pressed all the way in they loose power.i had noticed a loud sound when i used my hand brake after putting the car in park. The car also moves about an inch or two after i put the car in park and depress the brake pedal. I called the dealer about the hand brake issue and they said it was normal as the gear was going into place. I didn't think to much of it but after my car crash incident i think that there may be a problem with the brakes.
I was driving into town (approx. 12 miles) and slowed to about 40 mph as i was approaching a stop light.i had to apply all my weight to stop the vehicle.the engine did not return to idle speed when i was stopped.i shifted to neutral and the rpm indicated 1500 revs.i kicked the gas pedal and the engine returned to normal idle speed, 700 revs.the floor mat was nowhere near the pedal.i can not find any recalls for this vehicle.is there a fix for this problem?
Periodically seemed stiff when shifting into drive, then the "4 lo" light starts flashing. I tried putting the range selector in 4 lo which resolved the flashing light a few times. Took the vehicle to toyota and they could find nothing wrong because there were no codes. The last time i it happened, it stuck in 4 lo and the check engine light came on. Not a good situation to be far from home with a vehicle stuck in 4 lo. I took it to a transmission specialist. They could find nothing wrong and said the code indicated a "range problem" with the transmission and they reset the codes. Now the 4 lo light is flashing again, trac off and check engine lights are on. Going back to toyota. Hope they can figure out what the problem is.

2010 toyota 4runner fails to accelerate intermittently when gas pedal is pressed. Has failed to respond to accelerator for a full three seconds at one point. Commonly, delayed response lasts 1-2 seconds. Took vehicle to dealership. They were unable to duplicate the problem. Service tech said this could be caused by the electronic traction control. Issue occurs regardless of traction conditions.
There appears to be something dangerously wrong with the transmission. I have experienced this randomly, maybe a dozen times, over the last week since i have owned the car. It takes up to two seconds for the car to respond after pressing the gas pedal.this has happened when slowing down and then having to give the car gas, again.other times it has happened from a stop or an idling roll.there is a significant hesitation.this does not happen every time, which makes it that much more dangerous - being unpredictable.
Takada recall.why is more being done to volkswagon for their deliberate attempt to alter emissions tests (which is not a safety hazard), than is being to takata and the car companies who continue to use their defective deadly airbags.and why arent the car companies being forced to purchase replacement air bags from other vendors (like subaru has done)?and why arent the owners being compensated, like they are for the non safety issue with volkswagons?we are being left to drive around cars with deadly airbags without even any projected date of when they will be fixed.this is just unacceptable.

Since i bought this toyota 4runner i've had nothing but problems with brakes not working right the front end shimmies at certain speeds.. I took it back to the dealer called tri county toyota in limerick pa. They told me it's road characteristics.. Brought it back 3 or 4 times.. Never fixed this annoying problem.. They even got a so called expert tech from toyota to see what the problem was .. Never fixed..i had bought new custom wheels and tires.. The guy who put my new wheels on said there is something wrong.. Showed me the brakes 1 pad was good the other was very thin.. I brought it back to the dealer explained about the brakes.. Waiting in the show room.. [xxx]brings me in to show me my brakes.. And he sad there is no problem.. I told him i saw these same pads 1 was thick the other was very thin.. When he showed me they were replaced with new ones.. But said the same thing nothing wrong with the.. This time i was very irritated and told him are you trying to insult my intelligence..like i said the guy who put my new wheels on said i'm pretty sure your calipers are bad .. .. In the mean time i had gotten very physically sick.. For a year.. So i gave up i was so sick.. Now my guarantee was up.. Brought it back to the dealer again.. They put new rotors and brakes.. The contact owns a 2010 toyota 4runner. When the brake pedal was depressed, it traveled to the floorboard. The vehicle was not diagnosed by a dealer. The contact, an independent mechanic, planned to inspect and test the brake system himself. The contact stated that the front and rear brakes had been bled extensively; however, the rear brake cylinder failed to function. The manufacturer had not issued any brake system recalls; however, a tsb was issued on september 9, 2013 (t-sb-0141-13) for the brakes. The manufacturer was notified. The vehicle was not repaired. The vin was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 45,000.*consumer stated: for the last four years the stationary and movable windows around my forerunner the rubber sealing around the bottom of them, that prevents water from going inside the body and the doors, have been curling up the falling off. Since there is a lot of electrical components in the doors this can cause an extreme electrical fire, and possibly interfering with the computer operating system that could effect the vehicle driving ability. All four door outside lower window rubbers have fallen off which helps prevent water from getting in when it rains. I'm, not positive but could this cause, in rain storms, loss of control of the vehicle because of an electrical short in the computer system? my '99 toyota forerunner all the window rubbers are still perfect, which prevents rain water from running down into the door or the window panels. They are very expensive to replace. Since i'm on a fixed income due to disability, i'm unable to replace them.my brakes went to the floor when i went down to 2 miles and hour while pulling into my driveway. I was making a left turn at low speed at a traffic light. Suddenly the abs, brake and traction control warning lights lit up on the dashboard. At the same time, a continuous, high pitched alarm sound went off. I came to a full stop at another traffic stop. At that point my foot was on the brake and the brake depressed to the floorboard. I placed the car in park and pumped on the brakes and they did pump back up. I parked the vehicle close by and had the car towed to the nearby toyota dealership. They diagnosed the problem as a failed master cylinder and quoted me a price of $3000 including parts and labor for repairs. Both the dealership and toyota stated that there were no tsb's or recalls currently on the vehicle.
03/04/2019- i was driving down a dry road in santa fe, new mexico traveling at approximately 35 to 40 mph. A gradual turn, and i stress gradual, cameup and upon turning the wheel to take the slight curb the vsc/ anti slip braking kicked in and the computer 'sensed' i lost controlled at which point it took over and locked the brakes up. This action taken by the computer took away all of my control, straightened my car out sending me off the road into a dried up river bed totalling my truck completely.air bags deployed, front end destroyed, thank god i wasnt seriously injured, but trust me when i say it couldve been much much worse.this problem needs to be addressed.ive read multiple, almost identical stories involving the same problem with the same year.this is dangerous, unpredictable and has left me vehicleless in a financial bind. I will also mention this wasnt the first time this happened unwarranted. This just happened to be the first time it caused serious issues.
I have brakes hydraulic problem on my 2010 4runner, i brought to dealer 3 times in the past but they insisted there was no issues with the brake system. The brake paddle when depressed had hissing sound, seemed like there was air leaks somewhere..when pressed down the brake paddle, the vehicle would accelerate a bit then the brakes hydraulic applied. It is very scary when i was on freeway with 70-80 mph. If you have resolve the problem.. With the engine turns off, i still hear the hissing sound every single time i step on the brake pedal. And the service adviser in dealer said its normal??? and the brakes took couple milliseconds to response when brake pedal compress???

I will preface this notation with a statement that i am very familiar with the functionality of a motor vehicle.as months went on after i first purchased the said vehicle i began to notice that i would have to depress the brake pedal more and more to engage the braking system.once deployed the brakes did bring the vehicle to a stop, albeit with a 'soft' pedal.i brought it to a local dealership and requested that they check the error codes as well as the brakes inc. Lines, pads rotors etc..they stated that everything was within factory specifications.they measured the distance the pedal traveled while the vehicle was idle.i commented that when i first start the vehicle the initial activation of the brake pedal engages the brakes fairly well.it is after a few stops that one has to depress the pedal further to have the same feel that was noted upon the initial stop after the car was first started.i said he felt like the brakes needed to be bled.they complied with my request.they were ok for ~ 2 weeks.i once again brought the truck back to the same dealership and they stated that it was up to factory specifications.i am right back to where i was a year ago.i will note that it does feel better after a car wash and or it rains.i'm beginning to wonder if it's brake dust that's interfering with the contact with the rotor.there is not an unusual amount of dust on my rims though.
The contact owns a 2010 toyota 4runner. The contact stated the brake pedal felt loose and rattled whenever he applied the brakes. During the failure, the contact would also hear an abnormal hissing noise. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer on numerous occasions where the contact was told the vehicle was operating as intended. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure continued. The failure mileage was 100 and the current mileage was 9,000.
2010 toyota 4runner.larger suv so i thought loss of control in the snow twice was due to weight increase to new vehicle. Be more careful.but in the last two weeks i have had the front brakes lock up twice on dry pavement.this was not emergency braking but harder than normal.there was no pulsing of brakes as there should be for anti-lock systems.contacted dealer and will take the suv to the shop next week.
This 2000 toyota 4runner was being driven less than 30mph when a knock was heard coinciding with sloppy handling. Tail pipe was ripped from muffler. 4w drive had been in use for a few days due to snow, this happened when the truck was put back into 2wd. Brought the truck into my mechanic thinking steering/suspension problem, wrong! was informed that the frame was rusted out and couldn't be fixed. My mechanic remembered having the same problem with a few tacoma pickups and suggested looking for recalls or service bulletins relating to this problem. There aren't any. However, if you do an internet search entering "toyota 4runner frame rot" you'll be amazed at what shows up. Owners who have well maintained their 4runners and tacomas from this era are bringing their trucks in for routine service and are finding out that they're lucky that they weren't killed or injured because of frame failure. Other owners haven't been as lucky. Just go to aboutautomobile.com and look up "2000 4runner frame complaints" and there are 36 hits. That's just one model year and one web site.this is dangerous. It's not obvious until there's a big problem. The frame rots from the inside. Most interesting was the mechanic who had his fingers go through the frame while trying pull himself under to look at something. It seems, after reading comments on the internet concerning this issue, that toyota feels this is not their problem. It should concern them that they made 4runners that, while still looking great after many years on the road, are subject to unexpected catastrophic failure. My son and my 2 young granddaughters were in this vehicle when the frame broke.
The contact owns a 2010 toyota 4runner.while driving approximately 55 mph, the vehicle began to sway as if the steering wheel was malfunctioning.there were no indicators illuminated on the instrument panel.the dealer was unable to diagnose the cause of the failure.the manufacturer was notified.the approximate failure mileage was 30,000.

In the mean time i had gotten very physically sick.. For a year.. So i gave up i was so sick.. Now my guarantee was up.. Brought it back to the dealer again.. They put new rotors and brakes.. And still,my 4runner..shakes when i hit the brakes suddenly. And still shimmies at certain speeds.... As of today november 15th 2017 this problem still exists.. I really need help with this vehicle.. Because all i got was the run around.. .. Bought 7 cars and trucks over the years.. .. This problem is bad from day 1.. I have 61,600 miles on this vehicle.. Nothing has changed... Passengers are falling while using the foot step installed on the vehicle when loading and unloading due to the improper design and insufficient surface provided by the foot step to secure proper footing.several incidents involving front and back passengers, worse under wet conditions. Foot step too narrow and i am not sure that meets federal safety requirements.

The contact owns a 2010 toyota 4runner. The contact took the vehicle to buckeye toyota (740-654-3943, located at 1903 riverway dr, lancaster, oh 43130) where it was diagnosed that the rear end of the frame was rusted and damaged the suspension. The heat shield was also rusted and detached from the vehicle. The technician stated that in order to replace the heat shield, the exhaust system (which was also rusted) needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and did not call the contact back. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 241,000.
My frame is rusting away.the upper rear control arm bracket on the passenger side has completely rusted off the frame. The frame in front of and around the driver side rear lower control arm is rusting away with a large hole just in front of the bracket. In a matter of time the bracket will separate from the frame.the frame weld seams on both sides of the vehicle above the rear axle are either missing or full of porosity. Also, the rear sway bar rusted through and broke recently.
Bought this vehicle because it rated high, even though it cost more money than competitor models. Reliability is worth it to me. However, the frame started having significant rust after just a few years and was causing some expensive repairs. Fire shield rusted off and was removed. Now the massive skid plate bracket rusted off. Toyota service just removed the entire unrepairable skid plate due to the level of rust. There is nothing left to attach to. The mechanics said they were afraid to scrape or chip any more rust because they were afraid that other stuff would fall off and make the vehicle even more unsafe to drive. They indicated that this is absolutely excessive rust on the frame that should not happen. Their official toyota repair estimate to fix the rusting, failing frame and make it safe again is $17,783.71 which is half the value of a brand new vehicle! toyota corporate said, sorry, we have recalled many other rusting frames on our other models because they should not have rusted the way that they have, but unfortunately for you, we will not stand behind your 4runner that you paid $34,500 for. I am told that it is the same frame as some of the other recalled models. The toyota corporation tried to comfort me by ensuring me that they logged my case will contact me via first class mail if they ever do decide to stand behind their product and make good on my $17,000 pile of unsafe, useless rust.

Rust hole in frame on passenger side rear track arm mount. Created a weak spot in the frame where the rear axel mounts. Due to not enough rust prevention from manufacture.
The contact owns a 2010 toyota 4runner. While the vehicle was parked the lift gate was open and closed on its own with force while the contact was standing underneath it. The contact stated that the lift gate was no longer functioning automatically and that she had to manually open it. The vehicle will be taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The manufacturer was contacted and a complaint was filed. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 11,500.

No incident to report, but a complaint about the approach being taken by toyota to remedy the rear suspension problem described in their safety recall #csj. Their plan is to adjust / tighten the rear lower suspension arm , then seal it with epoxy, thus making it no longer adjustable. This would preventy any future rear wheel adjustments / alignments, thus creating a new safety hazard. All over the country , the roads are in bad shape ; i have my vehicles re-aligned at least once a year . I am not interested in having toyota " fix" my car so that i can't get it re-aligned. I think it is a pretty lame and cheap way to address the issue. Thank you for looking into this.
My vehicle is the subject of a recall by the manufacturer ( your # 14v604 ) for more than a year now and i have heard nothing from toyota. I filed a complaintwith your office several weeks ago and have heard nothing. How can a manufacturer be allowed to take more one year to propose a remedy to defect that involves the safety of the vehicle?
2010 toyota 4runner fails to accelerate intermittently when gas pedal is pressed. Has failed to respond to accelerator for a full three seconds at one point. Commonly, delayed response lasts 1-2 seconds. Took vehicle to dealership. They were unable to duplicate the problem. Service tech said this could be caused by the electronic traction control. Issue occurs regardless of traction conditions.
2010 toyota 4runner, in this case a 4 wheel drive. Panic braking at 55mph+ is dangerous. If you suddenly remove your foot from the gas pedal and suddenly apply full braking pressure to the brake pedal, the car lurches downward into a nose dive so violently that in one case i would swear the rear tires lost contact with the road. The two times i have encountered this i was on dry pavement and it is scary, i can't imagine wet conditions.in the incident where i was traveling approx. 65 mph the braking application was so severe that i backed off the pedal completely and then attempted to apply brakes more gradually and i got a minimal response from the brakes. In other words, the computer was terribly confused and didn't know what to do.the car has under 10,000 miles and both incidents resulted in some tire skidding.the anti-lock brake sensor/software needs fixing along with the front suspension being stiffened.
I was driving down the road at 70 mph with no one in front of me. All of a sudden my sunroof exploded and glass was everywhere.
The contact owns a 2010 toyota 4runner. While traveling at 65mph, the contact applied the brakes but they did not engage. The contact crashed into another vehicle. There were no injuries. A police report was available. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the contact was awaiting repairs. There were no prior warnings of the failure. The current and failure mileages were 3,500.updated10/20/10 updated 10/16/10
February 22, 2010, my 2010 toyota 4runner accelerated fiercely, my head was slammed into the headrest. I was at an intersection at the crosswalk; if a person had been in the crosswalk i would have killed them. The car went back to normal as suddenly as it accelerated. Terrifying! my head still aches. Took car to dealer and reported incident. The manager took a flash light and looked at the gas pedal and floor mat and said 'it seems to be okay you have the ??? new pedal, but our mechanic can check it out if you like.' left car at dealership and received a call later that day that my car was ready and the master mechanic was not able to duplicate my issue and i can pick up my car.sent emails to toyota corporate; received a call from peter, senior rep and he said i could get a second opinion at another dealer.i explained i could have killed someone when my car accelerated through the crosswalk; he ended the conversation by saying someone from my local dealership would pick up the car and check it out again.february 25th a manager from toyota came to my home and picked up my car to run more tests. March 1, 2010, my car remains at the dealership.the 2010 toyota 4runner should be on the recall list.
While driving along at slower speeds the engine seems to quit for about 5sec then it comes on again. This is a dangerous condition. This could happen anytime.
Toyota acceleration problems. You need to check emi (electromagnectic interference), rfi (radio frequency interference) on exact sites of problem.instance of runaway, san diego, ca, subject east, interstate 8, you have miramar usmc airfield, also san diego airport, both have radar.oregon city, or, subject had problems, after fix, numerous airfields there with radar.just bought 2007, chevy hhr, twice at exact same spot, event occurred and went away inless than 1/4 mile, highway 3, north bound, massachusetts to new hampshire, event occurred twice, engine coolant temp. I took my vehicle to the toyota dealership for the 5,000 mile routine maintenance.while i was there two of the studs on the rear driver's side broke.because i had recently had new tires on my vehicle the dealership blamed the place who put the tires on. I have gone to the same tire place for over twenty years. When he put the new tires on, he broke one stud but replaced it at his cost. He did warn me that there were other studs that did not look right and that he could see others breaking in the future.this place has changed the tires at least 4 times on this vehicle and are very careful about their work. It is not a chain were employees are constantly changing and their experience may be limited. All of the broken studs were on the same wheel.i researched this issue with toyota studs online and found numerous postings by individuals who have experienced the same problem. I realize you can find both sides of any issue online but it is obvious that there is a defect with this toyota part and they do not want to own up to it. I have had chevy blazers and a nissan pathfinder prior to this and have never had this problem.my concern is that this is going to happen again, possibly causing the wheel to come off when i am driving on the road.i have talked with the dealership as well as toyota headquarters and they refuse to do anything about this matter.i realized when i pursued this matter that they most likely would not do anything for me but i feel there is a safety issue here and that maybe if enough people take the effort to file a complaint something will eventually get done before something tragic occurs.
I brought my 4runner in to a reputable tire store for a routine tire rotation. The technician snapped a lug stud. I then had to take the truck to a separate automotive repair shop to have the stud replaced. I attributed the incident to a poorly trained technician. Recently, i brought the truck in for another tire rotation. Again, the technician broke a lug stud. The manager insisted that they always use a torque stick set to factory specifications and that there was no technician error. He also said that the shop had seen this problem with other toyota trucks of this vintage. I then took the truck to the dealer and, not surprisingly, they said the tire shop was at fault. They said all studs should be evaluated. In doing so they noted that 8 studs were damaged and should be replaced for a total cost over $400.00. They refused to acknowledge any culpability, said the damage was not warrantable, and i paid the full price for replacement.looking on the internet i have found multiple complaints about lug studs breaking on 2010-2012 4runners and tacomas. Here is a well-documented example:http://www.artsautomotive.com/publications/2-explanatory/170-2010-4runner-lug-stud-problemi previously owned a 1990 4runner for 20 years and never had a problem with lug studs being broken or damaged. In fact, i have never had a lug stud broken or damaged on any car i have ever owned. I believe the 2010 4runner lug studs are defective from the factory and toyota will not own up to this fact.
Multiple wheel stud failure during routine tire rotation.the owners manual recommends 83 ftlbs torque on the lug nuts.during a tire rotation, three wheel studs failed, two at the recommended 83 ftlbs and one at 75 ftlbs.when taken to the toyota dealership, their service technician broke two with his torque wrench set to the owners manual specified torque.toyota replaced both front and back studs.
