Collision involving front of car at 50 mph (on highway) did not activate the driver side air bag for front impact.
The contact owns a 2007 toyota 4runner. The contact stated that the air bag warning light remained illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who performed a diagnostic test, which located a failure code at the computer software. The mechanic disconnected the battery and attempted to reset the computer software; however, the failure was not corrected. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 134,000.
Vehicle was in a major side impact on a highway with 50+ mph and no airbags were deployed in the collision. Driver was injured and taken to the hospital via ambulance. Unsure if this is related to takata inflators or not. Vin shows no recall notice at time of accident. Vehicle was struck hard enough to separate rim from hub and break rim. Driver was going approximately 20-30 mph at time of accident when cross struck by vehicle going 50+mph. *dt
The contact owns a 2007 toyota 4runner. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle, the air bag warning light illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 3,700. The vin was not available.
My suv was hit on the side on the stop sigh but i lost control of the vihicle and i hit a light pole the suv front was damage the suv was total loss. The air bag do not deployed.
Dt*: the contact stated while driving at any speed or at rest andon normal road condition, the passenger side air bag illuminated off.the vehicle was taken to the dealership, who indicated when the rear seat was folded and the front passenger seat touched the rear seat, the front passenger air bag becomes deactivated.the owner manual also indicated in page 92 of this characteristic.the dealership determined this was the way the air bag system was designed.the dealership recommended when the space was required for cargo instead of folding the rear seat, it should be removed or the front seat should be pulled forward to avoid contact with the rear seat, however this suggestion was not practical because it made the passenger very uncomfortable.the manufacturer was contacted, but the customer service line did not know anything about this air bag defect. The rear hatch door handle is deformed and turned into a tar-like mess that covers our fingerswhenever we try to open the rear hatch. I have noted numerous other 4-runner owners having the same exact malfunction. Problem is the melted rubber cover which is part of the switch assembly, part #84840-35010.totally unsat!
My vehicle, 2007 toyota 4runner, has been experiencing some issues when the temperature drops below freezing.living in maine, this happens more often than any human would like.in any event, my hvac blower motor continues to literally freeze up and will not work. Toyota has issued a tsb (ac002-07) on this exact issue.since my vehicle is out of warranty i'm told by the local dealer and by toyota directly that i need to assume all costs for repair, yet if the vehicle was "in warranty" these repairs would be covered.the vehicle was driven in warm climates for the duration of the warranty period and this issue was not discovered until a recent move.i'm unclear how this issue is not seen as a direct safety issue and has not become a standard vehicle recall for repair.this is an obvious design flaw with the vehicle which can impair the vehicle's ability to perform safely.i have not driven my vehicle in over a week due to the fact that it is unsafe to drive in a freezing cold vehicle, but more importantly, i cannot get air movement to defrost my windshield.with no heat, or the ability to defrost your windshield in inclement weather there exists an absolute safety issue.additionally, i have a 20 month old child and operating a vehicle with no mechanism for warming itself is in my eyes "unsafe"thank you for your time an consideration.
The contact owns a 2007 toyota 4runner. After starting the vehicle, a high pitched audible alarm sounded and the abs, traction control, and emergency brake sensors remained illuminated. Also, when depressing the brake pedal to stop the vehicle, the brakes malfunctioned and the pedal traveled to the floorboard. The vehicle was towed to jim hudson toyota (970 columbiana dr, irmo,sc) , but the cause of the failure could not be determined. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 111,000.
Vehicle was parked on shoulder of road, engine running, whilst adjusting the mobile gps(hence the reason for stopping).at first smoke was coming up around/through center console (between driver's seat and passenger front seat) and then flames. The interior of passenger compartment was totally burned out in spite of prompt response by emergency crew. State farm insurance has naturally been notified although i hardly see why state farm should pay and not toyota. Surely there must have been something wrong with electrical wiring.
Mice have infiltrated the headliner area of 2007 toyota 4 runner. They built a nest and chewed the wiring insulation for the sunroof switch which caused a short that melted the wires and caused the sunroof to malfunction. Dealership replaced the switch and repaired the wires for $360 since this was not covered under warranty. After exploring the internet other people are experiencing the same problems on honda and several other models. Some of the conversations referred to the wiring insulation being made out of soy based material. Is there any idea why/how are they past the engine compartment and into the headliners and cabins? could there be a design flaw? from reading the posts a strong possibility exists for accidents to be caused because mice are running across people's feet, etc. While they are driving. Health concerns have alsobeen raised due to odors and feces by the mice, some of these infiltration sound pretty bad all of which cannot be attributed solely to the owners. There's not much that can be done to keep them out or so it seems.
I was driving on dec. 24th, 2018, turned on my rear defroster on, and within minutes my rear window exploded. The company, safelite, told me that the defroster looked like it shorted out and caused the damage. Attached is a picture of the defroster wires.
The rear hatch door handle turned into a melted rubber/plastic mess. Our hands are covered with black melted rubber type material whenever we try to open the rear hatch. Afteronline research, i see there are allot of other toyota 4 runners with the same problem. The part is called, switch assembly, back part #84840-35010. No doubt that the part is faulty.
My rear window shattered after using the defroster. Once i got out of my car after parking it in my job's garage it busted on it's own. I found out that this has happened to many 4th generation 4runner owners but toyota won't recall or extend the warranty for this issue any longer. Now i have to either never use my rear defroster again while living in colorado or risk it shattering again and hurting passengers in my car. I would have never bought the vehicle if i had knowledge of such a dangerous issue.
The contact owns a 2007 toyota 4runner. The contact stated that the wiring harness had to be replaced due to rodents eating the insulation on the wires. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the insulation on the wires were made of rice hulls and attracted rodents. The wires needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not notified of the failurethe failure mileage was 50,000. The vin was not available.updated 02/09/17*lj
The contact owns a 2007 toyota 4runner. When the rear defroster was activated, the rear window fractured. The vehicle was taken to hamer toyota (11041 sepulveda blvd, mission hills, ca 91345, 818-365-9621) where burnt wires were found. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 216,800.
My 2007 toyota 4-runner has a serious drive shaft jolt and clunk that occurs whenever coming to a complete stop causing the vehicle to lurch. The first occurrence was at approximately 6500 miles in my six year. Toyota has been informed of this several times and refuses to take action. Approximately 3 weeks ago, the vehicle did this on the freeway at highway speed of approximately 60 mph causing the vehicle to lunge in heavy traffic. Toyota was again notified of this and refused to take action. Additionally my 4 runner is suddenly getting the "vsc trac" and "vsc off" lights in the dash and check engine lights, which according to toyota own maintenance procedures procedure as described in tsb br001-04 to solve the "vsc trac" and "vsc off" lights and check engine lights, the 4 runner only requires the toyota obdii tester which takes only about 5 minutes to do, for a simple calibration matter, of telling the 4runner vsc/trac computer "the yaw rate and deceleration rate are currently zero" and to save the associated values. Then the output from the sensors can be interpreted correctly. I have gone to three dealers and all want to charge me in excess of $600.00. The last dealer contacted made me come in, and after 35 minutes bill me for basic oil change in amount of $74.00, and said i should not worry about the lights which continue to show on the dash.indeed this is rip off by both toyota and its delerships.
The contact owns a 2007 toyota 4runner. The contact stated that the check engine and vehicle stability control warning indicators illuminated periodically. The vehicle was taken to seeger toyota (12833 olive blvd, st. Louis, mo 63141, (314) 434-5000) where it was diagnosed that the air pump, valves 1 and 2, and the gasket needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 153,000.
The whole area of exposed steel has been so corroded with rust that i acnnot even remove bolts to service several of the key components in the engine compartment. The frame, cross members, suspension etc. Are also affected in this way.i'm no expert but it is progressively becoming more and more unsafe to drive especially if i lose brakes or some other necessary function. Please help, is this a bad batch of cheap steel?
Exhaust manifolds on the 4.7 v8 crack where the catalytic converter is welded to the exhaust manifold, causing exhaust leaks. This is a very expensive repair for the owner of the vehicle.
The contact owns a 1997 toyota 4runner. The contact was traveling 20 mph when the check engine light illuminated and moments later, white smoke was expelling from the exhaust pipes. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the dealer was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 150,000 and the current mileage was 216,000.
The contact owns a 2007 toyota 4runner.while the vehicle was idle, with the brakes engaged the contact noticed that the engine would roar and surge forward intermittently.he had to place the vehicle in neutral and shut it off and wait several minutes before restarting the vehicle. The dealer was unable to duplicate the failure nor provide an explanation of the failure. The manufacturer filed a complaint and provided the contact with a case number. The current mileages was 64,512. The failure mileage was 20,000.
2007 toyota 4-runnerfast idle when cold is 1500 rpm.. When the car is put in gear at that rpm the car launches.this is a serious hazard especially if you don't expect it.it is impossible to get out from between 2 parks card with the engine racing. Dealer will not help - claims the computer has control..
Strong sulfur smell when under acceleration.
When accelerating anything over babying it the vehicle's exhaust emits a strong sulfur (rotten eggs) odor.whether the windows are up or down the vehicle is filled with the awful stench.with the windows down it is a much stronger unpleasant odor.p.s.the incident date that i first noticed this was 10 - 11 - 2008, but it will only let me go up to 2007 on the selection.i purchased the vehicle the day before.the vehicle is also a 2008 model, which is also not an option to select.
Excessive sulfur/ammonia smell in the cabin during heavy acceleration.reported issue to toyota dealer (puente hills toyota) during service.dealer stated no tsb's issued for this problem yet, however, stated that this is a known problem with earlier models of toyota 4 runners.since toyota had yet to issue a tsb for this model year, they could not do anything about it.
Vehicle gives off horrible sulfur smell when accelerating quickly and sometimes even when slowly gaining speed after stop and go traffic on a highway.the dealership where i took it said that this is a known problem and there isn't anything they can do about it.why do other vehicle's i own not do the same thing with the same gas?
Over the past 9-12 months i have owned the 4runner, i have noticed the floormats slide up behind the brake and acceleration pedal when i am constantly switching between the two (eg. Heavy traffic, long trips, etc.). I usually am able to pull them back down at a stoplight or stop sign; however, on tuesday, july 29th, i was involved in an auto accident that was not only in heavy traffic, but while on a 200+ mile trip as well. I believe that the floor mat caused my car to have limited braking ability in addition to possible increased acceleration. The nhtsa's findings seem to be consistent with this. Additionally, the complaint with nhtsa id number: 10384563 states that "i pushed on the brake... But the car continued accelerating" and then "toyota inspected the vehicle... And said they adjusted the mat" is one of many that have findings consistent with the malfunction that caused my wreck.
The contact owns a 2007 toyota 4runner. While approximately 30 mph with the low beam headlights activated, the headlights failed to illuminate within 20 feet of the road. The high beam headlights were engaged in order to continue driving. The failure recurred while driving at any given speed at night. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who was unable to detect a problem. The manufacturer was notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 20,000.
While exiting highway a 2007 toyota 4runner exhibited sudden unwanted acceleration malfunction and was stopped by applying brakes with full force. The vehicle shuddered and returned to normal idle, then it was driven to a safe location and transported to toyota dealer. The vehicle was checked out and no defect was found, this vehicle is not on any current recall list. It appears to have an unknown etc problem which may be placing many toyota a serious risk.
Handle/lock on rear hatch is faulty.mechanism on the handle/lock of the rear hatch of 2007 toyota 4runner will no longer engage to allow hatch to be opened. Problem had been intermittent, now is more problematic. Cannot open rear hatch to access the cargo area of vehicle.dealer service dept acknowledges this is a common issue. Lots of similar issues found online.this has not been a recall issue yet.
The first of my 2007 4runner door lock assemblies failed just after the warranty expired.for the second one, my dealership.the vehicle has just over 80,000 miles and the 3rd of 4 door locks has just failed and been replaced.i believe this door lock assembly isobviously a design flaw and is not an item i would expect to fail at all over the life of the vehicle, even one, much less three out of the four.my car is garage-kept and does not even come close to receiving abnormal use.
1-third row seat slammed down during release from hook and broke underseat cover2-it happened once and could happen if someone unfamiliar with seat tries to lower the third row to seating position.upon release from the overhead hook, the seat, due to its own unsupported weight, could pivot freely and fall on the operator's hand or arm, causing injury. 3-the broken part was replaced by dealer under "goodwill".the broken piece of the under seat cover is available.
The rear door opening handle has material that has melted making it almost always impossible to open the door.i moved last august from texas to south carolina and apparently the material toyota used in it's 2007 4-runners cannot hold up to the texas heat. The insurance company for toyota which covers the extended warranty i purchased denied paying for the repair stating that my rear door can be opened some of the time!! this is a dangerous situation & i have been unable to get my dogs out of the rear door on several occasions..fortunately none of them life threatening yet.
I purchased my 2007 4runner and found a-lot of rust on the under carriage of my favorite vehicle. It spreads everywhere; including the engine bay. Not only does it compromise the safety of the vehicle but it shortens the life also.i wanted to buy a new 4runner this year but after learning of the rust issues i thought twice.
I have a toyota 4runner sr5 2007 4x4 v6 with about 90k and seem to have developed the rumble strip issue as well. I am curious if the op has gotten any traction on getting anything figured out. It seems like it must be the "lock up" feature of the torque converter in 4th and 5th gears. The vibration comes on at the end of 3rd gear when the rpms are about 2k or so. Then again as it tries to shift up to 5th. In our case as well, putting the trans in '4' instead of 'd' totally eliminates the problem. I wonder if some sort of reflash could fix things. My current plan is to double check the level on the fluid and be sure the zerks are all lube up. It is unfortunate that this has come up as we love the car otherwise. If something does need fixing, i am in no hurry to head to the dealership, and i am afraid that a more local type transmission shop will not have much experience with these new super fancy sealed transmissions. I hope that i am wrong.
The contact owns a 2007 toyota 4runner. While at a stop light and attempting to accelerate, the vehicle hesitated to respond. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for a second opinion, who diagnosed that the torque converter needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 71,000.
The contact owns a 2007 toyota 4runner. While driving at approximately 10 mph, the four wheel drive failed to engage when prompted and the four wheel drive warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the front differential vacuum actuator and t-case actuator failed. The vehicle was repaired. In addition, the rear differential fractured and was making an abnormal noise. The vehicle was driven to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The technician stated that the rear differential had fractured. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 49,412.
Transmission had to be replaced on late 2007 toyota 4runner with only 63,000 miles on it. Additionally, oil pan system had to be replaced. Toyota claimed it was aftermarket parts, yet toyota is has regularly changed the oil and performed all maintenance on the vehicles as records show. Toyota covered the cost of the transmission but charged the customer labor despite being out of warranty, which makes the customer think this is a known issue with the year and model.
The contact owns a 2007 toyota 4 runner. Randomly once or twice a month. When the consumer would shift from reverse to drive, the transmission would fail to engage for approximately 5 seconds. When the engine rpm's were up, the transmission would violently engage and then leap forward.the dealer stated that if they cannot duplicate the failure, there's nothing they can do to fix the problem. The failure has occurred approximately 12 times in the past 6 to 8 months. The vehicle was not repaired.the failure mileage was 35000 and the current mileage was 51340.updated 2/17/10 updated 02/22/10
When driving in stop and go type traffic the transmission or drive line make a horrible clunk and will lurch the vehicle.also the plastic around the gear shift area becomes very hot ~50c in an a/c cabin.
I have a 2007 4runner, limited, v8 with the clunk in the driveshaft that appeared about 5k miles and hasn't let up now at 16k miles. I pull up to a stop sign and it feels like i've been rear ended. Then, when i start out, it feels like the brake release is delayed with another clunk. This happens at every stop.if the brake is not pressed firmly when coming to a stop, the vehicle will lunge forward. I first reported this problem to toyota at about 8,000 miles and they said that it was a lubrication and maintenance issue, stating that the propeller shaft was supposed to be lubed at every oil change.when i asked them to show me the maintenance plan in the manual, they admitted that this task was not listed in the maintenance plan for this frequency.
My 2007 toyota 4-runner has a serious drive shaft jolt and clunk that occurs whenever coming to a complete stop causing the vehicle to lurch.the first occurrence was at approximately 8000 miles in my first year.toyota has been informed of this several times and refuses to take action.approximately 3 weeks ago, the vehicle did this on the freeway at highway speed of approximately 60 mph causing the vehicle to lunge in heavy traffic. Toyota was again notified of this and refused to take action. In viewing discussion boards online for 4th generation toyota 4-runners (2003-2009), this is a widespread problem.
After stopping and starting to go again, there is sometimes a loud clunking noise and it feels like something is falling out of the bottom of the car.
Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)vehicle is a toyota 2007 4runner sr5. Vin [xxx].the plastic cover (toyota part no.72124 35010) that fits over the front driver seat hold down bolts broke off and slid under the brake pedal.the brakes could not be used until i removed the loss part.
The contact owns a 2007 toyota 4runner. The contact stated that while driving 30 mph, she noticed that her vehicle would not stop once the brakes were applied. She had to utilize the emergency brake and was able to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for inspection or repair. The manufacturer was contacted and stated that the vehicle was no longer under warranty. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and the current mileage was 63,000. The vin was not available.
Vehicle purchased used july 2011 w/ 45k miles.in may 2012 at 55k had brakes repaired, all 4 wheels new rotors pads and hardware.in 2014 noticed brake fluid leaking from caliper and discoloring wheels.dealer service verified front calipers frozen (guide pins and pads rusted in place as well as caliper pistons).this appears to be a design flaw as the caliper does not incorporate any protective boot for the guide pins or any interface between the pad shoe and the caliper body.the caliper body and guide pin appear to be easily oxidized, a fact that toyota attributes to "environmental conditions".apparently toyota designs for the mildest conditions rather than the harshest.oddly, it is only the front caliper with this design: the rear caliper incorporates a more modern design with a boot for the guide bolt.
The contact owns a 2007 toyota 4runner. The contact stated while driving 25 mph, the brake pedal was depressed and went to the floorboard. The contact stated that while making a right turn into his neighborhood, the brake pedal was depressed along with parking brake to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was inspected and the contact became aware of a leak coming from the bleeder valve and caliper. The vehicle was not taken to be diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 163,714.
The braking system vibrates and squeals when driving and braking... Told the abs/master cylinder system needs to be replaced at the cost of $3082.25.started noticing problems at about 128000 miles on vehicle. Doesn't seem right that there is a major malfunction/repair needed with such low mileage
The dashboard alarm sounded and the abs, vsc, brake, and traction control warning lights illuminated.this was followed by complete brake failure.fully depressing the brake pedal would not stop the vehicle.dealer diagnosed a failed master cylinder assembly.
The contact owns a 2007 toyota 4runner. The contact stated that while driving approximately 30 mph, the brake pedal was depressed and abnormally traveled to the floorboard. The contact mentioned that the emergency brake was used in order to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the master cylinder abs ecu assembly needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure and current mileage was 102,000.

The contact owns a 2007 toyota 4runner. The contact stated that while driving 5 mph and applying the brakes, the brakes abnormally traveled to the floorboard. The abs system warning light then illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer who replaced the hydro-booster braking system. The manufacturer was notified who advised that there were no recalls and he should file a complaint. They offered no further assistance. The failure mileage was 103,000 and the current mileage was 104,000.
Actuator/accumulator/mastercylinder squeak/squeal
The battery died unexpectedly (about 3 years old) and when we replaced it and tried to drive it, there was a loud continuous beep from the dash and no brakes. We replaced the abs fuse, which blew again immediately. We had to have it towed to the shop and it was confirmed it was the brake module. This exact issue just happened with our 2013 camry and it was replaced under a manufacturer warranty. I drive my kids in this car. We could have died.
Complete and permanent damage of abs and brake module ian's results in no brakes while running the car.

When i am driving on a bumpy unlevel street and stepping on the brake paddle to slow down the brakes give out and then catch again, i find this to be very dangerous and might even cause an accident especially if there is another car to my front, this has happened to me quite a few times.the brake system has to be checked on a bumpy paved road, brakes will catch and release and catch and release.this happens every time i am on a bumpy paved road.
While driving with my entire family on i-95, the vehicle abs assembly began cycling repeatedly. When depressing the brakes while the abs was cycling, the brake pedal would grind and slippage occurred in the pedal pressure. No warning lights.
Machines break but when parts represent a risk of fatality, they should be more closely scrutinized.i got lucky when the brake booster assembly went out in my 2007 toyota 4runner while it was parked and running in my garage for 5 minutes while i unloaded it.had i not made the decision to let the car run while i unloaded it, a decision that i first questioned, it more than likely would've gone out the following morning when i pulled out of my steeply sloped driveway.a drop of about 10-15 feet is directly across from my driveway and there is nothing to stop anything from rolling down that drop besides the multitude of hardwoods there.i could've been on the interstate or traversing the hills and slopes that we deal with daily.a parking brake will only do so much.my 4runner is well-maintained.in fact, it had received it's regular maintenance only 5 days prior to the brake booster assembly's failure.there was no warning;no noise, no feeling, no weird behavior-just buzzers and warning lights after the fact.the car almost rolled through the garage door as well as the house.it took all of my might to stop it at 1-3 mph.i am grateful for what did not happen but concerned about any other unsuspecting 4runner owner and anyone around that 4runner if the same happens.i've been happy with my 4runner and felt safe in it until july 21. It is my third 4runner in a row.they are fantastic suv's.i have a great relationship with my dealership, especially my service tech, who i feel looks out for me and my 4runner.but after researching brake booster assemblies in 4runners, i see multiple crashes and scary stories involving this part.i see it is unrelated to mileage or maintenance or vehicle age.it's happened at 2months old, 2 years old, 200k miles. The risk of fatality is too high to let this issue remain unattended to.
Vehicle frame is extremely corroded to the point where replacing necessary items such as shocks/struts/steering components is not possible without irreparable damage. Factory welds at critical points of the frame structure are starting to fail and causing safety concerns. This vehicle is regularly garaged and only has 85,000 miles. This is unacceptable, there have been previous recalls and for other models that share this exact same frame and suspension.
"i am requesting that dot nhtsa investigate the driver's contribution to unintended acceleration (ua) and toyota's accelerator/brake pedal designs that make it possible. I was driving my toyota 4 runner in the neighborhood street of my community. My speed was less than 30mph and it accelerated suddenly. I applied the brake and instead of slowing down the vehicle began to gain speed. I pressed harder on the brake and it accelerated. The harder i tried to stop the car, the faster it went. I took my foot off the brake for a moment and the vehicle stopped accelerating. My foot was on the brake. It accelerated and would not stop so i pulled the car from the street to the curb covered by grass. It slowed down to some extent and then i intentionally to a turn and hit the median curb & tree to stop the car. I have continued to investigate unintended acceleration and have collected partial information.... Please formally investigate."
I come to a stop and my vehicle pulls, like somebody hit my vehicle from behind. Its constant , it happens all the time.i did take it to a dealer and they said there was nothing that could be done, they advised toyota had not come out with a recall yet for that problem. They advised it was a common problem with the drivetrain . I really do not want this vehicle any more if it is always going to do this.. What makes me mad is that i just bought this vehicle in july....... What can be done .

Purchased pre-owned 4 runner ?certified? from russel toyota 12/07 with approx 21k miles. Complained of unusual brake performance immediately but was told the vehicle was ?performing to factory specs? brake performance issues including aggressive stopping, stiff pedal, loss of pressure, and random ?anti-skid system? responses nearly caused a few accidents. On 3/14, approx 23k miles, complete brake failure, no pressure, accident avoided and coasted vehicle to a stop, pressure did not return. 4runner towed to dealer, master cylinder was ?internally leaking? and replaced. Symptoms continue and vehicle is completely unsafe. Numerous attempts have failed to re-produce the intermittent problem at the dealer and therefore the dealer keeps saying there is nothing wrong. Vehicle is unsafe and toyota unwilling to help and referred us to ncds dispute resolution program or told us we can file a suit. This vehicle is unsafe and should be replaced. Breaks continue to fail/malfunction approximately 1 time per week. Dealer always says no problems found.

Vehicle is unsafe and toyota unwilling to help and referred us to ncds dispute resolution program or told us we can file a suit. This vehicle is unsafe and should be replaced. Breaks continue to fail/malfunction approximately 1 time per week. Dealer always says no problems found.
No brakes: brake pedal went all the way to the floor without vehicle stopping. Upon my personal inspection at time of incident, i found the brake fluid reservoir to be full and no brake fluid leaks, anywhere, were found. The toyota service manager where i bought the vehicle stated that cause was a defective master brake cylinder assembly.i believe this is a manufacturing quality issue as i have not heard of a master brake cylinder assembly malfunctioning within a two year time frame.
The contact previously owned a 2007 toyota 4runner. The contact stated that the braking system was defective because when she would depress the brake pedal, the vehicle would shake and keep moving forward. The contact noticed the issue at least 6 times. She took the vehicle to the dealership and after the dealer test drove the vehicle, she was informed that they could not find anything wrong with the vehicle. She called the manufacturer and a representative was sent to inspect the vehicle; however, the rep stated that they could find nothing wrong with the vehicle. The contact traded the vehicle for another. The current and failure mileages (when the contact returned the vehicle) were approximately 10,000.
The contact owns a 2007 toyota 4runner. The contact was driving approximately 15 mph proceeding to make a right turn. When the brakes were engaged there was a loud screeching noise outside of the vehicle; and several warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel. Suddenly, the engine stalled. The ignition was turned off, and then restarted. The vehicle resumed and when the brake pedal was applied there was no power response. The contact drove over a curbside and the vehicle came to a complete stop.the vehicle was towed two different independent mechanics and they informed that the failure was related to the entire brake system. The vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer for a third diagnosis and repair at the time of the complaint. The failure mileage was 80,481. The vin was unavailable.
2007 toyota 4runner with 55,000 miles.hydroboot assembly (abs brake system computer and motor assembly) abruptly went out on march 22 with my 18 yr driving.he could not immediately get the car to stop using all of his strength and force.toyota dealership claims this is a "freak" occurrence.if this would have been on a highway or my 15 yr with learners permit driving, this would have been a fatal accident.toyota says "out of warranty" and "sorry".
I drive a 2007 toyota 4runner sr5 and believe it has the same issue with brakes as the toyota prius.when i try to brake on a bumpy road, the brakes do not properly work when i have to stop going more than approximately 25 miles per hour.the car makes a beeping noise then the car's brakes fail, then they overcorrect by becoming extra sensitive once off the bumpy section of road.this has happened on numerous occasions - i was just not sure it warranted a complaint - i was not sure if that was normal.i do not feel safe driving my car on bumpy roads as it is not safe.

The contact owns a 2007 toyota 4 runner. He stated that when he was driving 30 mph and began slowing down with his foot on the brake pedal, the braking system failed and the vehicle did not slow down. He then depressed the brake pedal very hard multiple times to stop the vehicle. The failure has also occurred 5 times. The vehicle was then taken to the dealer who stated that there was nothing wrong and the failure could not be duplicated. No repairs were made to the vehicle. The failure mileages was 20,000. The current mileage is 25,000.updated 6/1/10 updated 06/04/10
The contact owns a 2007 toyota 4runner. The contact stated that while driving, there was a beeping noise in the engine area and the brake pedal began vibrating. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who performed a diagnostic that located the failure at the abs brake actuator. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and the current mileage was 28,000. Vehicle has premature excessive rust of the frame and associated components and should have been included in the same recall my 05 sequoia (as well as tacomas and tundras) of the same era since all were manufactured with the same process that lacked adequate application of rust protection/coating. Many others on here as well as online on other sites also are reporting this generation of 4runner to have rusting. I have rusted motor mounts that cause motor vibration, rusted brackets holding my gas tank to the frame, i have had to replace all transmission lines due to rust that left me stranded while moving across the country. I have had to do replace several rusted parts like cv axels, wheel barrings, and possibly rusted steering box leak/rack and pinion (conflicting info from2 mechanics so undetermined). I purchased this in 2014 and just paid it off and need help as it should have lasted me more than 7 yrs and should not have had this kind of rust in yrs 7-11 after being made! it has low miles and should have lasted many years to come. Everything else is in excellent condition but this frame issue they excluded this model from needs to be extended for 4runners in the same generations of the recall mentioned above. This is leaving many drivers who paid the extra pricetag to have a toyota left with a finacial loss of purchase as well as loss of use of a vehicle. Please look at all the complaints. I have taken excellent care of this vehicle and just out a lot more money into it at the dealership with repairs since no one said it was rusted like this. After moving, i have had 3 non-dealership mechanics tell me it is bad. Please contact me with an update.
Very hard steering stiff steering wheel to the point the wheel was locking up
Frame is very rusty. Replacing several steering and suspension components. The metal is very thin and rusty right under the radiator to the point where there is now a hole in it and may collapse in the event of a crash.
2007 toyota 4runner has a shimmy in the steering wheel at freeway speed.took problem to the dealer and they indicated it was a normal characteristic of the 4runner.
Severe frame corrosion; transmission crossmember has holes in it, front frame portion is badly rotten and cracking. Front frame cradles suspension has rust holes and steering supports are rotten and was told by mechanic it is unsafe to drive.
Recently looked at 2007 toyota 4runner limited v8 for sale to replace my 2005 limited that has severe frame corrosion and discovered that this vehicle too has nearly the exact same corrosion issues. The rear of the frame by the bumper, where the control arms and radiator are attached to the chassis and frame rails are so badly corroded you can push your finger through the metal. How much more evidence does nhtsa need to demand toyota recall these vehicles? look at the hundreds of complaints to nhtsa and thousands of owners online posting pictures and videos of their vehicles rust issues. There is a major problem with these vehicles corroding just like the other toyota body on frame products that were recalled for frame replacements. We own trucks 30-40 years old and not one of them has ever had a frame rust through to the point you can literally poke holes in it with your finger. This is unacceptable on a vehicle 10-15 years old. [xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
The contact owns a 2007 toyota 4runner.while driving between 45-70, the contact felt a vibration in the steering wheel.no warning lights were present.the contact spoke with the dealer and they stated that it was a normal characteristic of the vehicle.the current mileage was 2,500 and the failure mileage as 1,495.the consumer stated the dealer tried to fix the vibration defect multiple times but to no avail.updated 12/12/07
While driving my steering my wheel suddenly became stiff where i noticed that there was an unusual resistance to turn right. I took it to a shop to have it looked at and had them flush the power steering fluid and put in new fluid as well as check for any possible leaks - none were found. This reoccurred after about two weeks but this time the stiffness was much worse where i felt unsure that i could turn the steering at all. After investigating on line i found many others had similar experiences. This scary experience happened on 2-21-18 so i made an emergency call to my mechanic to have it looked at asap for 2-23-18. Looks like the steering intermediate shaft (u joint) is going on all these trucks. I'm at approximately 143k miles.i'm so glad this didn't happen while i was in heavy traffic although i was on the highway going home when it happened.
The pad (located on the hatchback latch) where you place your hand to press down to open the hatchback has melted.it is difficult to open the hatchback as the rubber has melted & the button no longer releases properly.when i called don mcgill toyota in houston, tx, they explained this is not a recall item & it would cost approximately $350 to repair since it includes replacing the entire button & electrical parts associated with the hatchback.this is a safety issue since i cannot open the hatchback properly.i believe this is a faulty hatchback handle which toyota should repair at no charge.the parts that were originally used on this handle are faulty.
The lift gate handle is sticky and leave black residue on fingers. When you look at it looks like it is melted. I think it is a real problem.i'm research how to repair, but once i've been on this site i see there are others with this issue. I think toyota needs to address this issue.
The back, trunk handle switch consists of a black, rubber type of material that melts every summer. I live in texas so summers can get extremely hot. So, it has melted/gotten hot to the point where it almost burned me and my husband's fingers. Additionally, it will leave black stains on our fingers regardless of the weather. This is not only an inconvenience but also a hazard. I'm currently trying to get it fixed at the dealership. However, i was told that the part that would replace it is the same material. So, i'm writing this to hopefully get a response from toyota to replace these handles with another type of material. I've researched online and have found that it is not only with 4runners that this happens on but also siennas. We should not have to experience this with any vehicles we purchase regardless of where we live. Toyota should do something about this issue and not expect customers to just fix it on their own, not to mention replace it with the same switch that we had issues on to begin with.
2007 toyota 4 runner with bad ground clearance. Consumer states that the vehicle scrapes the ground. Toyota reps and service reps keep telling her that ground clearance is measured different ways.the consumer stated she wanted a vehicle with high ground clearance. The dealer told her the vehicle had 9.1 inches of ground clearance, but later the consumer discovered that wasn't true.
The rubber on the inside the tailgate handle has melted and erroded.in warm weather, it is sticky and causes black tar-like substance on hands.in colder winter months, it is difficult to depress to open the tailgate.in quickly scanning all complaints on this site related to the 2007 4-runner, about 10% are for this issue!not a serious safety or vehicle operation issue, but indicates a faulty part on the vehicle.understanding that this model year is long out of warranty, it should still be corrected, as a goodwill measure if nothing else.

Noticed rust on frame few years ago but the dealer said toyota will not do a anything. If tacoma is being recalled, 4 runner should be since it is build on the same frame. *dt
There is lot of rust on the frame and toyota is not going to do anything about it.
Severe rust problem on the frame/hitch/rear hatch. We were advised not to use the rear hitch due to the rust and that it could come loose when towing..
Frame is very rusty. Replacing several steering and suspension components. The metal is very thin and rusty right under the radiator to the point where there is now a hole in it and may collapse in the event of a crash.
The hatch latch has melted and presents problems in unlatching.the dealer denies this is a problem.especially in cooler weather, i am often not able to open the rear hatch.my research indicates that many owners of this model experience the same issues.there is some concern that the cause is faulty wiring that overheats the material.also, the replacement part is the same as the original; therefore, not resolving this issue.this should be a safety concern and should be remedied by the manufacturer.
Excessive frame rust on the frame itself and on suspension components including control arms and support brackets. Toyota dealership stated that rust could be an issue with maintenance.
Rear window defroster was accidentally turned on (right advice cup holder) causing rear window to shatter while driving. It was stationary at a light at the time.
I have a 2007 4runner with currently around 180k miles. When i purchased the vehicle it had some rusting to the frame but nothing deeming it unsafe or dangerous. Within a matter of months the frame had, and still is, rusting and deteriorating at an alarming rate. I am not sure how toyota has got away with this issue thus far but i'm pruong
Very rusty frame. Radiator mount rusted out and also crossmembers.
The frame has completely rusted through in many places. We have had it checked and been advised the vehicle is not safe to drive.this is a known problem on many 4 runners as well as other toyota vehicles in the same era.
The tailgate latch is made from some rubber component. It has melted into mush. This makes it difficult to open back hatch door. It also has made a mess on paint on tail gate.

On the back of the truck, in the middle of the rear door, my car began to rust out of nowhere. I do not live by the ocean or any other type of environment to cause rust and in the winter time, the truck is garage kept. After hearing from a number of people having the same problem, calling toyota to find out that they have no recall, i took the car to an auto body shop. The expert looked at the rust, went to scrape it, and the exterior crumbled in creating a decent hole. The expert said that there was no reason for a truck this age should have this problem. He called toyota to complain saying that this is a problem toyota should fix, but they said they had no recall on the issue. The expert told me that the car was rusting from the inside and is eating away at the layers of paint. He said i had nothing to do with the cause. He also said that he could fix it at a high price, but that may not even solve the problem. I am filing this because there is no reason a car 6 years old and well kept should be rusting and falling apart.
I was driving with my child in the car and lost control of steering and heard loud noise.i had no control of steering and the car crossed lanes luckily missing other vehicles. It stopped on the side of the road and a body shop happened to witness the whole thing. He tried to drive it into his shop (two driveways away) but ended up having to drag/tow it in because the front end frame had rusted and fallen from the vehicle.that body shop looked at it and i also got a second opinion and they told me the same thing.the front end of the car needs to be replaced. The front steering rusted so badly it disconnected completely and fell out from the frame. It is also so rusted there is not enough metal to re-weld it too. The car is totaled when the car has been properly maintained. It was terrifying and was lucky i happened to only be going 25 mph down a straight road and no one was hurt. The car that was running great and was well maintained is now not drivable or even fixable and my child and myself were in serious danger. Every mechanic is telling me this is a fault common in toyotas and is a problem with the frame and shouldn't have happened. I am extremely frustrated and was told the only thing i could do was file a complaint but this is a known issue that toyota should be resolving.
Back door latch has become a sticky mess.when opening, a tar like substance gets all over your fingers.
Very well taken care of and frame is rusting thru in multiple spots already
The rear door opening handle has material that has melted making it almost always impossible to open the door.i moved last august from texas to south carolina and apparently the material toyota used in it's 2007 4-runners cannot hold up to the texas heat. The insurance company for toyota which covers the extended warranty i purchased denied paying for the repair stating that my rear door can be opened some of the time!! this is a dangerous situation & i have been unable to get my dogs out of the rear door on several occasions..fortunately none of them life threatening yet.
The back gate door handle melted and gets very sticky. This makes the door sometimes not able to open in cold weather and is very hot and can burn in the hot weather. This car as been well maintained and all other seals and gaskets work. This rubber handle cover has failed and is not due to normal wear and tear but manufacturer defect.
The back hatch handle has melted and gets a tar like residue on your hands, toyota should fix this prob since it seems to be a huge complaint.
The back door rubber cover of the handle was melted for second time, the first time was on june 26,2009 and its was change by guarantee for the dealer. Now i had the same problem the rubber was melted. The part number is 84840-35010. I think that toyota need to correct this problem with a good quality rubber.
The rubber on the inside the tailgate handle has melted and eroded. It is sticky to the touch and consists of a black tar-like substance. Year round the handle is difficult to latch and may cause tailgate to open unexpectedly. This complaint involves the 2007 4-runner. This may pose a serious safety issue should the tailgate open while transporting cargo on the road.this is an obvious faulty part on the vehicle. Understanding that this model year is out of warranty, it should still be corrected as the manufacturer is well aware of this issue.
The trunk latch to open the door is incredibly sticky and leaves a black residue on my hands. When i try to open it now that it's colder it won't open. I'm afraid if there is ever an emergency i won't be able to get in.
The left rear section of my vehicles frame where the rear traction bar mounts is completely separated at the welds leaving a large hole in the frame where the bracket once was. This issue is similar to the tacoma frame recall. My 97 4 runner is basically totaled at this point and will not pass mass state inspection even though the drivetrain and body are in excellent condition.
I have an insurmountable level of rust on the frame and surrounding components.there should not be this level of rust at this point on the vehicle's life.

The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis where it was advised that the rear axle bearing gear assembly needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vin was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 58,000.
Severe rust problem on the frame/hitch/rear hatch. We were advised not to use the rear hitch due to the rust and that it could come loose when towing..

It's been close to a year since my name was put on a list to have the leaf springs inspected, called the dealership today and still have four more months to wait.the person that i talked to said they are not getting the parts fast enough.they are doing about 12 cars a month.for a recall this is not right?
Making noise

Melted black back door lift gate release switch.part#84840-35010 dealer said it was shorted out that caused it to melt and become sticky.

Frame rust so bad that holes are starting to appear.
While traveling under cruise control at 55- 60 mph on a rural 2 lane highway in nc, i came upon a vehicle in my lane traveling at a slower rate of speed. As i approached the vehicle, i accelerated to pass. While passing i could tell that the vehicle felt like it was moving faster than the 60 - 65 mph it should have been for the amount of gas i gave it, but i was concentrating on completing the pass and did not look at the speedometer. After passing and pulling back into my lane, i depressed the brake to slow down. My vehicle slowed slightly but felt odd, like it was pulling. When i removed my foot from the brake, my vehicle began rapidly accelerating on its own, quickly getting to about 70 - 75 mph before i depressed the brake again. Again the vehicle slowed slightly but felt odd, like it was pulling. When i removed my foot from the brake, my vehicle again rapidly accelerated on its own, at which point i realized something was wrong and depressed the brake harder. The vehicle pulled harder this time and started vibrating severely. I removed my foot from the brake and the vehicle again began accelerating.i shifted to neutral and brought the car to a stop on the side of the road. Over the next ~ 20 minutes i tried ~ 4 - 5 times to crank the car.each time the engine immediately revved such that the tachometer almost instantly hit red zone, and i cut the engine off. I called toyota's "800" phone number, and they told me to get the car to a totota dealer. Before calling a tow truck, i tried cranking the car one more time, and that time the engine cranked normally.
The vehicle was in motion on a town 2 lane highway, speed limit 40, goog weather, when the car suddenly turned to the left and made a loud beeping noise. I turned it back to gain control and return to the correct line of travel. Brought it to the dealer where system tests were performed per toyota and nothing was found to be wrong. This had happened before.
Recently bought this. Owner said there was a recall about it. There isnā€™t, at least yet. The front passengerside & back driverside doors wonā€™t unlock remotely. That could be a problem after an accident or if needing to enter the car immediately.i havenā€™t taken it anywhere, but it is available to be inspected. There werenā€™t any lights/warnings indicating a problem. The date & mileage listed is current. I donā€™t know when it actually started.
The frame is rusted out. My mechanic said it will not be inspectable.
Severe rust problem on the frame/hitch/rear hatch. We were advised not to use the rear hitch due to the rust and that it could come loose when towing..
The rubber on the inside the tailgate handle has melted and eroded. It is sticky to the touch and consists of a black tar-like substance. Year round the handle is difficult to latch. This is an obviously faulty part, and should be replaced as the manufacturer is well aware of this issue. I heard that toyota shipped a punch of faulty door openers like this in 2006.
Severe frame corrosion; transmission crossmember has holes in it, front frame portion is badly rotten and cracking. Front frame cradles suspension has rust holes and steering supports are rotten and was told by mechanic it is unsafe to drive.
Codes p1442, p1445, p2441, p1441. Had to install a new secondary air injection system. Defective emissions system. I (service station) mistakenly bypassed the system in order to save several thousand dollars when the sais was known to be defective in these vehicles.
Takata recall: the sun visor on the driver and passage don't stay up any more. Keep falling.
During use of my rear window defroster, the rear window popped and shattered into the interior of the car.
This was the fourth occurrence of unintended acceleration.each incident occurred upon shifting from park into either reverse or drive.the engine revved up to the red line upon shifting from a stopped position.this occurred with both a cold engine and a warmed up engine. I slammed on the brake and shifted into neutral.the accelerator pedal did not depress.pressing the accelerator pedal in neutral brought the idle back to a normal levels.
The contact stated that while sitting at a complete stop, the engine rpms increased severely. The contact shifted into park to cease the abnormal failure. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or a mechanic for inspection or repairs. The manufacturer was contacted about the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 78,000.
The contact owns a 2007 toyota 4 runner. While driving 45 mph the vehicleaccelerated to 90 mph. He had to drive over grass and small shrubs to decelerate. The vehicle was towed to the dealer for inspection.the technician could not duplicate the failure, therefore they could not provide a remedy. The failure and current mileages were 23,000.
The contact was driving 5 mph into a parking space when the vehicle abnormally accelerated into the wall of a building. The contact sustained minor injuries. The vehicle sustained damages to the front bumper and headlights. The vehicle was towed by the contact's insurance company. The manufacturer advised an inspector would evaluate the vehicle for failures and advised the contact that the manufacturer would disclose the cause of the failure. The contact was not advised of the failure and the vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated the vehicle was in the possession of the dealer where the contact was awaiting a decision on repairs. The failure mileage was 35,000.
I experienced a sudden acceleration on 10-5-10 in my 2007 toyota 4runner, 4wd. As i was turning onto a busy street at an intersection with lights, i pushed on the brake at the stop sign as the oncoming traffic approached, but the car continued accelerating into the lane at the intersection, and i pushed as hard as possible on the brake. I pushed the gear lever forward as the oncoming car veered into the next lane to avoid me. Continuing to push on the brake, i shifted into reverse, but the acceleration was still active and my tires squealed in reverse, so i shifted down into neutral and stopped, and the traffic had stopped also. Since the acceleration stopped i was able to drive normally, and there was no collision, thankfully. Toyota inspected the vehicle as usual, finding nothing, and said they adjusted the mat and that was that. I emailed the general manager about my situation and he said he would look at it again. I said i am aware of the intermittent problem with the electrical accelerator and would like to have him buy my 2007 and sell a 2011 4runner with the "smart pedal" technology. He agreed and now i own a new 2011 4runner.
We own a 2007 toyota 4-runner, bought new in oct. 08, that has sudden burst accelerator problems. When setting at a traffic light or another stop, truck will suddenly surge forward while foot is on the brake. It happens every time it is driven, at some times stronger that others. Have spoken with the dealership on numerous occasions, to no avail.
The contact owns a 2007 toyota 4runner. While attempting to park the vehicle with his foot on the brake pedal, the vehicle accelerated. The contact stated that minor damage was done to the vehicle when he attempted to stop it from accelerating. He was able to shift the vehicle into park and shut the engine off. The dealer was unable to duplicate the failure and stated that there was nothing was wrong with the vehicle. The manufacturer was contacted but would provide no assistance. The vin was not available. The current and failure mileages were 40,000.
The contact owns a 2007 toyota 4runner. When the contact started the vehicle, the engine revved while the vehicle was in park. The accelerator pedal was depressed and the failure continued to occur. Suddenly, the ignition was turned off. The front driver side floor area was inspected regarding the floor mat entrapment, to no avail. The vehicle was restarted and the failure continued to occur. The vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer for inspection. The cause of failure has not been determined at this time. The current mileage was 33,300. The failure mileage was 33,100.
Vehicle surges forward when air conditioner on.hazard at traffic lights.will drive itself forward up hills and along flat roads without accelerator being touched when ac is on.the higher the ac fan speed the faster the vehicle goes.dealer does not have "computer program" to fix.this is a safety hazard.
We were stopping for a red light in the left turn lane. We started to slow down and thenour vehicle just took off and we rear ended a truck. Didn't hurt the other truck but the front end of our vehicle is smashed and our bumper is cracked. The dealer told us to take out our mats so we did. We recently called the toyota experience line and they gave us a claim number but said sorry we are not on the list of recalled vehicles. We are scared to drive our vehicle.
The incident happened at the intersection of harbisonand division st. Southbound at harbison st.,while slowing down for a full stop at a red light with my right foot gradually pressing the brake pedal suddenly the engine rpm went up so high without stepping on the accelerator pedal. My immediate reaction was to press harder the brake pedal. The high acceleration lasted about 10 seconds and i was able to bring the vehicle to a full stop at the middle of the intersection which have caused an oncoming vehicle at my leftside to swerve to its left to avoid an impact. This is the second time it occurred. The first time it happened with another driver it was ignored because hethought it was normal. There was norepair done on both times it happened. The owner have not receive any notice of manufacturer notice of defect.the first incident was about 6 months ago and not reported. Also no fire, property damage, crash occurred.
When the air conditioner is running the vehicle idles at different rpm's causing it to lunge forward when the a/c compressor shuts down, increasing the rpm's. This has almost caused a fender bender several times while at a stop light.
The contact owns a 2007 toyota 4runner. While driving 40 mph the accelerator pedal was stuck to the floor which caused the vehicle to accelerate over 120 mph during rush hour. The dealer has made four attempts to repair the vehicle. The first three attempts the vehicle was repaired per the warranty. The fourth repair is not eligible under the warranty. The dealer has attempted to diagnose the failure for one week. The contact has taken the floor mats out of the vehicle and the failure has continued to occur. The failure mileage was 20,000.
I bought a 2010 toyota camry in sept. I called my dealership 2 weeks after i bought it noticing that my car revs up for no reason & doesn't shift right.i contacted another toyota dealership recently about it not shifting right & they said they have had several complaints about the same thing.my mom has a 2007 toyota 4-runner & the gas pedal stuck 3x on her & my stepdad last summer on the interstate.not knowing what to do, he turned off the ignition & coasted to the side of the interstate.they contacted marion, il toyota dealership where they bought it & they gave my parents a hard time & was very hateful.after the 3rd time they finally cleaned the "throttle body" & hasn't done it since yet she hasn't drove it much since she is scared for her life.she has been an avid toyota owner.she has owned 3 4-runners and is thinking about going to something else mainly also because her dealership is being hateful about all of this.i'm scared for her & of course for myself since the toyota 4-runners are not on the recall list.
I was waiting in line of traffic to pick up my daughter at school.car was in drive, my foot was firmly on the brake pedal, when the engine suddenly raced and the car lurched forward about 10 feet.i stomped harder on the brakes and the car did stop, but at no time had my foot ever left the brake pedal, and was not even remotely touching the gas.at first i thought the car had been hit from behind, but when the incident was over, i realized that was not the case.my wife observed the incident from the passenger seat and concurs that my foot was on the brake the whole time.she later checked to make sure that the mat had not shifted to press on the gas, but confirmed that nothing was in contact, or even near the gas pedal.my wife took the car to the dealer the same day to check the computer codes, but nothing was recorded in the history.dealer was unable to observe the phenomenon.the check engine light did not come on.i purchased the car new in october 2007.mileage at the time of the incident was 19,912.
- the contact stated that the brakeand accelerator pedalswereapproximately an inch apart.the contact stated that while applying the accelerator he also inadvertently applied the brake pedal. Updated 1/31/2007 -
Ltr to nhtsa re toyota sudden unintended acceleration incidents fm owner of a 2007 toyota 4 runner, requesting possible defect investigation into toyota 4 runners. *tgwthe consumer stated his wife was driving the vehicle, when all of a sudden, the accelerator became stuck. She frantically pumped the brakes and also attempted to maneuver the accelerator pedal.two miles after the accelerator initially became stuck, by continually pumping the brakes, the consumers wife was able to get the accelerator loose.
During use of my rear window defroster, the rear window popped and shattered into the interior of the car.
The contact owns a 2007 toyota 4runner. After the rear window defroster was activated, the rear hatch glass exploded. The contact was informed that the warranty period expired on april 30, 2018. The manufacturer was contacted regarding the warranty extension for similar failures with the vehicle and the contact was informed that no assistance would be offered. The approximate failure mileage was 118,000. Updated 12/13/18
The contact owns a 2007 toyota 4runner. The contact stated that the vehicle emitted an abnormal burning odor. In addition, the rear window spontaneously shattered. There were no smoke or flames present. The vehicle was taken to the contact's residence. The dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and provided case number: 1709181574. The manufacturer stated that they would send out technicians. The failure mileage was approximately 130,989.
Rear window defroster was accidentally turned on (right advice cup holder) causing rear window to shatter while driving. It was stationary at a light at the time.
