Involved in accident, air bags did not deploy, seat belts did not hold resulting in hitting stearing wheel and fracturing my stearnum. Collision repair center replaced computer that controls air bag and seat belts.
After picking my car up from the dealership from an oil change last october, my vehicle stabilty control (vsc) system zeroed the calibrations in effect shutting this system down.as a result, the car went into a sideways skid and nearly rolled.i had to have the car towed back to the dealership who recalibrated the system and accused my of inducing the skid and informed me the system if suppose to turn off if a tire starts to spin faster than another.in may, after picking the car up from another oil change at the dealership, the vsc system again zeroed the calibration while being driven from the service bay to the front.this time for know known reason.the dealership and toyota technical support have told me to take the car, drive it and "see what happens".this seems to be occurring on a 13,000 mile frequency and when the system does turn off, the car is not safe to drive.my car has been at the dealership for 9 days now.
During the day instrument panel is not well lit, causing poor visibility of the speedometer and warning indicators. *mr
Annoying engine or drive train vibration between 1400 and 2000 rpm.more noticeable on upgrades.releasing accelerator pedal results in eliminating the vibration as the engine speed decreases.the vehicle is a 2004 toyota 4 runner v8 limited.this issue was initially noticed at about 700 miles on the odometer.
Steering wheel and pedals vibrate in 1600-2000 rpm range at various speeds. *la
Steering wheel and gas pedal high frequency vibration when accelerating at 1500 rpm to 1800rpm (in various speed). I had taken this concern to my local toyota dealer. The dealer service was good, but no solution provided. The reason was "all 4 runner v8 4x4 do this, and there is no tsb solution for it". I have seen complains about this annoying vibration in '03 and '04 4runners in various place - edmunds.com, this site, and etc. Should toyota consider this a defect of the vehicle and provide a solution?
I just perchased a 2004 toyota 4 runner sport edition v8 in february.i have just completed the "break-in" period and have begun to increase my speed on the highway.a cyclical vibration and noise is noticed from the engine at 70 miles per hour that increases in frequency as vehicle speed is increased.the noise subsides once you let off the gas regardless of speed.in addition, steering wheel and brake pedal vibrates between 1500 and 2000 rpm range at various speeds.
Strong sulfur smell (rotten eggs) when accelerating.can smell with all windows up.even worse if rear window is down.what's the point of having a rear window if you can't open it.i also own a 2000 4runner and it never smells this way.
Leakage of sulfur dioxide (so2) fumes from exhaust into cabin of vehicle, smells like "rotten eggs." exposure to so2 has adverse health effects, source epa. I suffer from asthma and the sulfur fumes create serious safety and health hazard.
Upon acceleration the exhaust emits a very strong rotten egg smell into the cabin of the vehicle. This especially happens when the rear window is lowered.
Rotten egg smell when the gas pedal is depressedquickly from either a standstill or already moving. I've tried all different types of gas but to no avail.
Almost constant sulpher smell. Dealer states that they have no knowledge of problem, and no tsb's. They tell me to keep rear window closed. When my wife is a passenger she has her eyes burning all the time. If you need to step hard on the gas the whole cabin fills and is enough to make you noxious. Toyota needs to remedy the problem asap, or a class action suit should be filed. This problem has soured me on toyota products for good. Like the vehicle but have a hard time cinvicing my wife to go anywhere in it, she always wants to take her kia sorento, more comfort and nicer amenities. 2004 toyota 4-runner v-6 ltd 4x4 not acceptable unless you like sulphur smell while driving!
1. 2004 toyota 4runner purchased from fred anderson toyota, 9101 glenwood avenue, raleigh, nc,27622 on 3/18/2004. On 3/29, the service departmentinstalled an electrochrmic mirror that had been ordered at the time of purchase.2. After that i noticed that the engine warning lights, the vsc trac and vsc off light came on in the dash. Also noticed an ammonia smell. 3. I took the vehicle in 4 times for each problem, for a total of 6 times. The first time 4/15, the problem was diagnosed as the purge valve and it was replaced. The second time 4/29, the charcoal cannister was diganosed as the problem, but the part had to be ordered. The third time 5/6, , the charcoal cannister was replaced. The fourth time, 5/24, it was found that the electrochromic mirror was installed incorrectly. The lights have since gone off, but the ammonia smell still occurs intermittenlty during acceleration.i am currently in arbitration because toyota has been less than willing to cooperate with me. I'm also wondering what permanent damage has been caused to the vehicle. Additionally i have also noticed a vibration in the steering and noted it at the last two visits to the service department.*mr
Between june 04, and october 05. These problems still exist.. My truck is in the shop now. Left side manifold catalytic converter assembly, one manifold stud broken, technician drilled and removed stud then retapped hole. New stud installed. C/s vsc light on engine light on, catalytic inefficiency. Converters changed out. Replaced catalytic converters. A c/s vsc light lit, yaw sensor out of tolerance, recalibrated yaw sensor.
My 2004 sport 4runner has a periodic strong sulfur smell ongoing since i bought the vehicle in august.
Purchased toyota 4 runner v8 sport edition in may 2004.after approximately 2,000 miles, the car began have almost constant sulfur emissions (heavy smell) within the car with windows either up or down, and with either fresh air or recirculated air.the odor is noxious and exacerbating health problems.dealership (conicelli) told me this smell was normal and unavoidable.tsb from toyota about this problem does not include the v8, but the problem is evident.
Rotten egg smell when the gas pedal is depressedquickly from either a standstill or already moving. I've tried all different types of gas but to no avail.
2004 toyota 4 runner has had a horrible sulfur smell since we bought it.dealer replaced catalytic converte and now the smell is worse.dealer now says there is nothing they can do.
I have a 2004 toyota 4 runner.i noticed the extreme sulfur odor within the first 500 miles of driving the vehicle.i was told it was just a coating on the engine.naive as i am i believed them.i am at 20,000 miles and many complaints to toyota only to be told it was the gas.they have done the tsb but no avail.it is still there and not healthy.
My toyota 4 runner smells like rotten eggs. The dealer tried to replace the catalitic connverter and it still smells.
When driving my 2004 toyota 4 runner emits a sulfur like odor.i have been told that switching fuels will help, but i have tried all fuels in the area of all grades and still have this terrible smell.it happens on a repeatable basis, most of the time after exiting the freeway onto a surface street is when it is most noticeable.

Recently purchased a 2004 toyota 4runner sr5. My complaint is that the dash lights come on automatically but the headlights do not. The dash lights makes it appear the headlights are on. (i traded in an oldsmobile with automatic headlights). I have on several occations driven many miles with the headlights off. This is very unsafe. I believe the automatic dash lights should be disabled or automatic headlights required if dash lights are automatic.
Dash lights are on all the time making it hard to know if you headlights are on or not. Have driven several times at night in lighted areas thinking my headlights were on when indeed they were not.
Driver's door will not open. Door locked in lock position, will not unlock using the key or manual switch inside of vehicle. Unable to exit driver's door.took vehicle to toyota dealer, awaiting word on repair.

Purchased a 2004 toyota 4 runner.noticed "wobble" or "vibrations" in steering wheel when accelerating and at speeds around 70-75 mph.took in for maintenance, technician balanced tires.still had problem so took it back in resulting in a road force balance and new set of tires.still have mild vibration.
My 2004 toyota v8 4wd sr5 4runner was bought brand new in feb/2004. At speed 71-73 mph, it generates annoying harmonic humming noise from transmission and/or driveline. The noise is more noticeable in cold weather than in hot one. It become less noticeable at speed above 78 mph. A toyota dealer mechanic test drove the car and confirmed the noise, but offered no help to fix the problem because they do not know how to.
2004 sr5 v6 4wd experiences droning vibration or rumbling on floor, pedals, and steering wheelwhen car is driven between 1500-2000 rpm. Vibrations are significantly worse for ambient temperatures below 35 degrees f. And very bad below 15 degrees f. Also becomes more predominant during acceleration. Vibration dissappears when transmission is shifted into neutral at same speed. Appears problem is in drive train/transaxel and not transmission.
Resonance through steering wheel during light to heavy acceleration when trans was shifting. Dealer, at this timesays it is a characteristic of this vehicle. 1000's rpms and up sometimes worse then others.
I own an 2004 toyota 4runnersport with the v8/awd. Took it on a long road trip over x-mas and noticed at exactly 71mph you start to hear a cyclical noise (about 2-3 per second) that increases in frequency as vehicle speed climbs. No vibration in steering wheel or pedals. But both driver and passenger feel it in floorboards and hear it. Disappears at 82 - 85 or so, and as soon as foot is removed from the gas pedal. Dealer claims no known issues and offers no solution.
While driving vibrationcame from the drivetrain/front differential at various speeds.seemed to be related to rpm and outside temperature.most prominent at @2000 rpms, and below 50 degrees.vibration felt in pedals, floor and steering.heard throughout the vehicle.dealer tech trying, but no answers.

Vibration above 70 mph, felt through steering wheel, pedal and floorboard.
Purchased brand new 2003 toyota 4 runner 4x4..on snow, ice an wet roads the front end vibrates an bucks. Its been back to the dealer twice, an twice were told the truck checks out fine(of course they are going to say that, because this problem only occurs in weather mentioned above) an they have not test driven it in such weather.
Involved in accident, air bags did not deploy, seat belts did not hold resulting in hitting stearing wheel and fracturing my stearnum. Collision repair center replaced computer that controls air bag and seat belts.
I am the owner of a 2004 toyota 4-runner se, the driver's seat is constantly clicking and shifting upon acceleration, braking and turning. The technician's at the dealer say it is operating as designed and they all do it. The car has 7500 miles on it and has been to the dealer 2 times for the same and it is going back again for it on 5/27/05. I feel if it moving this much with such low mileage what will it be doing it a couple of years from now. I feel it is dangerous because sometime the seat will actually move back a notch while accelerating and almost cause me to loose control of the vehicle while steering around a car that had pulled out in front of me.as for the rotten egg smell i also get that when the windows are open mostly and it is very annoying as is the dronning of the drivetrain or differential upon acceleration, that i hope will be addressed at the next service date above.i think toyota should be able to repair a loose seat it is ridiculous with all the technology out their that there is no repair for such a simple problem.
Problems with the bottom of the seats moving around as if not in the locked position.the vehicle accelerated up to 5 mph although the consumer's foot was not on the accelerator.at times while shifting form drive to neutral and then reverse, the engine could be heard revving up then the vehicle would jerk backwards.the vehicle was taken to a local dealer who test drove the vehicle.the technician concluded that the vehicle was performing as designed and refused to provide further assistance.
The driver's seat moves (or rocks) while driving. The local dealer assures me that the defect is not a safety issue, yet i don't feel comfortable driving the car.this is an ongoing problem.
The driver's seat pops and moves when braking or turning curves (especially when making right turns). It appears to be coming from the bottom of the seat and around the front "thigh" portion of the seat.
I have a new toyota 4 runner sr5 purchased in april 2004. The drivers seat is loose and moves back and forth when you step on the break or gas peddle. The service department at dayton toyota has told me that it is a normal condition and there is no repair available. He showed me other 4 runners on his lot with the same problem. I find it very hard to believe that these vehicles can be sold in this condition.
Dt: ontact states the driver's lumbart section of the seat is loose. When ydriving and stopping y can feel the front section of the seat moving. And whenturning left or rightcan feel the seat moving.this happens all of the time. He has taken it to the dealership twice and both times they said it is worked as designed. He noticed this on 6-30-05. The dealership did compare the problem to a 2005 toyota forerunner and said the same problem was happening with the 2005 models but they could not do anything until toyota comes out with a service bulleting or a recall. He has talked to toyota and they gave him a claim number and said someone should get back with him on or around the 21st. Of july 05.
Problems with driver seat moving and making noises during driving on 2004 toyota 4runner.it is a design flaw, and toyota will not recall.
On sunday, july 25, 2004, i was pulling from a driveway to a tar road and when applying my brakes the vehicle did not slow down and made a very loud ticking noise in the rear of the car. I assumed it was my abs system making the noise. I was not going more than 2 miles an hour and was able to just accelerate and go on my way. I used the brakes in my vehicle at least 5-10 times on my way home. I pulled in my driveway and parked my vehicle. Approximately 6 hours later, my husband got into the vehicle to move it in the driveway about 10 yards forward. I was in the house. In the house i heard that very same ticking noise and then a loud noise and i knew that my husband had crashed my car. The brake pedal went right to the floor and the car smashed thru our garage. I got into the vehicle and pressed the brake pedal and it again went right to the floor. I called my toyota dealership the next morning and they agreed to come pick it up. Before the car left the yard my father in -law came over and watched the brake pedal go to the floor. Toyota can find nothing wrong with my vehicle and want me to take it back and drive it. I will not drive that vehicle unless they can tell me what happened. I have 4 other witnesses who heard the ticking noise in the car before it hit our garage. There is something wrong and i need some help. I have asked toyotaa for another vehicle and they refuse. My car has 4000 miles on it. I believe it is unsafe and could pose danger to other owners.
The driver took the vehicle in for maintenance.the mechanic noticed the brakes and other parts needed replacing because they were rusted and corroded.*ph
When stepping on brakes, pedal vibrates and gets very soft. Vehicles stopping distance is marginal at best. Rotors have been "cut" already with just 13k on the vehicles due to rust build up.boch toyota in norwood mass. Tells me that the brake issue is "normal" !! there is also a loud whining noise when applying the brakes. They tell me this is normal also ! also, the tires had to be rebalanced at 13k as i was told they where "cupping". Sounds like there is a front end issue with the 2004 4-runner.
Consumer complained thattracking sensor was defective.vehicle stalled, and sometimes when pressing the acceleratorvehicle got no power and stopped in mid stream. Consumer took vehicletodealer, andcontacted manufacturer. Since problem occurred intermittently dealer claimed there was nothing they could do unless it happened when theywere evaluating it.
When coming to a stop & braking, car accelerated forward.this caused me to have an accident with much damage to the front of my car. This caused me to hit the building in front of me with extensive damage to the building. It was amazing part of the building did not fall down on the top of my car which would have caused me serious injury.
Break pedal vibrates every other time it is pressed down.it makes no difference how hard you press.it goes away after few seconds.it is not an abs related vibration. *la
Vibration through steering wheel at rpms b/w 1600-2300, increased with speed.
Steering wheel vibrates around 45-60 mph.it is a pronounced vibration that is uncomfortable to drive with.
While turning the vehicle the power strerring became unstable (hard to turn - then lose) causing the suv to hit a pole, damaging the corner right bumber.

This is an e-mail i sent toyota headquarters: i have had my new 2004 4runner limited back to the dealership (ron carter, alvin, tx.) 4 times before i even had 500 miles on the vehicle. The reason is because of steering wheel oscillation/vehicle vibrations between 55 and 70 mph. The dealership re-balanced the wheels and tires that came with the vehicle (dunlap grandtrek at20) twice without any luck. I then had them upgrade the tires (for and additional $420) to michelin tires. This didn't solve the problem either. I then brought vehicle back in one more time the following monday for another attempt to fix the problem. No luck again. All of this took place within 7 days of me taking ownership of the vehicle. Every time i took it in for this investigation, the service department told me that the problem was fixed (all 4 times). It was not fixed! i had the technician who balanced the tires (his name was tracy) drive the vehicle and he too noticed the steering wheel oscillation/shimmy. One of the service advisors (her name was kim) also drove the vehicle after a different attempt to solve the problem and noticed the same concern. 9/8/04 i'm still waiting on the toyota regional office to contact me back like they promised to get this problem resolved. I really like this vehicle and would like to get this problem fixed. I'm not sure what to do next (lemon law?). I am writing toyota to see what else can be done to solve this issue that the dealership could not. Fyi - the more i drive the vehicle in this condition, the more damage it's doing to my "new" tires as well as premature wear to the steering/suspension components. Fyi-still waiting for them to contact me back for resolution.
I purchased a 2004 toyota highlander jan. 2004 and drove it for two weeks before the weather permitted me to drive it with the windows down. I first noticed aexcessive harmonic drumming noise when i opened the sun roof. I tried the other windows and the noise became unbearable to the point of causing extreme pain to the ear drums. The back windows being the worst. This problem was not disclosed at the time of purchase . I found out later that toyota has known about this for some time.
I have a 2004 toyota 4 runner with a very noticeable shake in the steering wheel at 59-65 mph.

I have had multiple front end alignment problems with my 2004 toyota 4runner since day one. The tires are wearing on the front end on the outside edge extremely fast. Toyota has replaced the tires, but the new tires are wearing very quickly ( it is being described as feathering). Toyota of richardson has admitted that there is a front end problem, but they are not sure how to repair the front end. I only have 7500 miles and so far am very disappointed with the customer service from the dealership and toyota directly. The front end feels unsafe.
I have front end problems which is making the tires wear ( feathering) on the outside edge of both front tires. The dealership replaced the tires with a new set of tires, but the new tires are wearing the same way. Toyota states that there is not a problem, that this tire wear is normal. This was not normal on any other vehicle i have owned. This will be my last new toyota vehicle purchase, after 5new toyota purchases i am done!!!!!
2004 toyota 4runner. The tire pressure warning system light blinks meaning the system is not functioning properly.i have been to the dealer 5 times and all they seem to do is check the spare tire and reset the warning light after the diagnostic. After 1 day the warning light comes back on. On another toyota 4runner i test drove i noticed the same blinking tire pressure sensor warning light.
Low tire pressure indicator light comes on and blinks after vehicle has been travelling at highway speeds for extended periods of time.usually occurs after driving for an hour or more.dealer reports that no tire problems found and resets indicator.indicator must be reset by dealer, or it will continue its annoying blinking.
Toyota's new commercial for their highlander is all about featuring a woman putting make-up on while driving to work. It is unbelievably irresponsible.
Driver seat would shift around while driving and once in gear vehicle would accelerate on its won without any pressure applied to the gas pedal.*phmechanic test drove vehicle, but failed to find out the cause of the problem.*la

Driveline vibration centerd at approximately 1700 rpms.is worst in 5th gear.problem began at about 400 miles and has gotten slightly worse with additonal mileage.dealer response to complaint was "characteristic of the vehicle - no poblem found at this time."
Vibration (from drivetrain) that is felt through the gas pedal accompanied by a low-pitch humming/droning noise. This phenomenon is most obvious/noticeable between 1500 to 2000 rpm at all speeds and less noticeable above 2000 rpms.
While driving at any speed driver's side mirror vibrated uncontrollably.this caused poor visibility. Vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection, and mechanic determined that the mirror needed to be replaced, and replaced it three times. However, the problem recurred.this information was provided by mrs. Zamani's husbandmr. Touradj zamani.
Windshield continue to crack starting each time mid way the wind shield wiper on driver side. I am my third windshield and it is cracked again also lots of tundra trucks are cracking the same identical place.
