While driving, consumer encountered several blind curves and a significant downhill grade, as consumer came around the curve the passenger side front and rear tires left the pavement on the right shoulder, in attempting to re-enter the roadway, consumer seemed to have overcorrected and lost control of the vehicle which then crossed over the center line and left the pavement on the left side of the road, the vehicle hit 2 sets of bank trees and then rotated another 90 degrees, and made its third and final impact on the rear tailgate, the truck then slid to rest down a slight enbankment, facing nose forward toward the road, consumer suffered severe injuries and consequently died, consumers daughter believes that the crash was severe enough to warrant airbag deployment.(daughter on behalf of deceased jeanne m. I was involved in an accident where my vehicle, 2000 toyota 4 runner, sustained damage to the front end.the accident damaged the frame of the vehicle.the vehicle was a total lost per the insurance company (state farm).i was knocked unconscious in the accident.the problem i have is that the air bags never deployed.i have pictures of the vehicle and the frame damage i can e-mail to you.

Consumer's vehicle was traveling at 25 to 30 mph when another vehicle ran a stop sign while traveling at about 70 mph.as a result, consumer's vehicle hit the other vehicle and none of the air bags deployed.consumer's vehicle was totaled.

My wife totaled our 2000 toyota 4 runner, limited.neither air bag deployed even though there was substantial frontal impact and rollover. The emergency workers were surprised the air bags did not deploy. I have digital pics of the wrecked vehicle if needed.

Consumer was involved in a frontal collision in whichdriver's and passenger's air bags did not deploy.*ml

Model, size and dot # da72c44while driving 35 mph left front tire had a blowout, original equipment on a 2000, toyota, 4 runner. The customer lost control of the vehicle when the tire blew up, and the driver side air bag failed to deploy.

Front crash at 30-35 mph, neither airbag deployed.

I was driving on the freeway doing approx. 60 mph. The road conditions were wet from previous rainfall. My 2000 toyota 4runner sr5 2wd hydroplaned and caused me to spin out multiple times. I struck the concrete center divider twice and continued to spin and finally slid across all four lanes of the freeway and rested on the right shoulder. While the vehicle did feel like it was trying to rollover, i managed to steer the wheel opposite of where it was pulling and kept it upright. However, during the accident and upon impact (twice) neither one of my airbags deployed. Both myself and my front passenger were injured which may or may not have been caused by the airbags failure to deploy. I placed a call to toyota customer service center and was told that there are not any current recalls on my model.

I was driving on the highway at about 45 to 50 miles per hour speed on a slightly wet road. All of the sudden, the vehicle started to skidded out of control and hit the highway divider wall(guardrail) on the right front of the driver side and rolled over and spinned 50 feet away before the vehicle stopped. Dual air bags did not deploy.

Consumer's friend called & stated that vehicle was in an accident andconsumer died. He and a friend were driving on a dirt road and they were turning around the corner and hit a curb, back wheelcaught gravel inside of the wheel and the truck turned over.driver was thrown though the sun roof. Upon impact, dualairbags didn't deploy. Passenger was thrown outside of the window. Driver was a fatality.

I just purchased a 2000 toyota 4 runner with 80k .the check engine light gave a problem code of po171 mass air flow sensor .me and my kids went to grab supper at the dairy queen and had just pulled out of the dq when my car started shuting down in the road way, my 4runner could not exceed 25mph .almost a crash!from all ive seen on the internet this is the number 1 problem withthe 2000 4runnner and could cause aserious acicdent or death. The car dealer replaced the mass air flow sensor for me at no charge. I think toyota knows there is fault in the mass air flow sensors i read online where one toyota dealer had sold over 300 new mass air flow sensors.please feel free to call me anytime.jsr7044775308

On several occasions i have take my car to the dealer trying to get my check engine light and car stalling repaired. On two occasions my car has stalled without any warning.the first time was when i was in the middle of making a left turn and the second time was when i was making a right turn.also the check engine light goes on and off.

Diagnosed with engine sludge.still has milage left on warranty.denied warranty because toyota said i either didn't change oil or used low grade of oil quality.

Car stalls on deceleration with check engine light (red). Toyota truck was taken to the dealership twice without a permanent resolution. Upon contacting manufacturer and in turn toyota service & repair they stated they are aware of the problem and that there is no resolution to the problem. Toyota service advised me to drive vehicle and not to completely fill gas tank, because if the gas tank is overfilled causes car to turn off. Due to gas getting into the vacuum system. *ph *nlm**dimsii ivoq entry posted after 12/12/02 cut over to artemis**767680

I bought my 4-runner 6-00 about 3 months after i bought it we noticed and terrible oder coming from the air conditioner and heater. When i brought it to the dealer they sprayed it with something to kill the mold. Just 2 months later the oder was back so i brought it back, they did it sprayed it again and told me it was the climate i live in and i would have to live with it or pay to have the oder removed from now on. The also told me everyone down south has the same problem. Well, i have only found one person with the problem i have. So, i wrote to toyota and they also refuse to fix my problem. These are expensive vehicles we should not have to smell an awful oder every time we need the a/c or heater. But what upsets me now is that my complaint is not even in the system to let others read about it, maybe so othersmay think they are the only ones with that type of problem and shut up like i did. I sencerly hope my letter is posted with other complaints so i don't suspect toyota to be trying to cover up thier customers probblems. It would also be nice to here from someone concerning this matter.

When i bought the vehicle the check engine light was on.then when i got into the vehicle there were more miles on it then stated on the paper work i filled out.i took the vehicle back and forth to the dealership and they just reset the check engine light.one the way home from the dealership which is over 100 miles away, the light came back on.so i had a toyota specialist look at the vehicle and he hooked up a diagnostic machine to it and found the problem.i didn't take the vehicle back to the dealership just for the simple reason that they didn't know what they were doing and they were very unprofessional.

The fuel gauge reads empty when there are 5 gallons left in the gas tank. Toyota says tsb el010-00 addresses known defective 1999 and 2000 4runner fuel gauges. My vehicle is a few months and miles out of warranty so toy will not pay for fix. Some addressed there is no fuel in tank even though fuel gauge reads 1/2. This cause vehicle stalls and dies on freeway almost causing wreck.

The vehicles fuel sending sensor is malfunctioning causing the fuel gauge to read inaccurate fuel quantities.this has led to fuel starvation which could be a serious safety issue should it happen at highway speeds.no corrective action taken as of yet.this has already been identified by toyota as a known defect in toyota service bulletin el010-00.since toyota has identified this as a known defect issue; manufacturer should be ordered to recall and replace defective parts.

Specifications on vehicle indicate 18.5 gal. Tank, but only can fill to 15 gals.fuel gauge warning light comes on with 3-5 gallons still in the tank.fuel gauge indicator not proportionate with gas left in the tank.

I had a complete failure of my automatic transmission in my 2000 4runner sr5. I was traveling at about 65 mph when i completely lost power. There were no indications of a problem with the vehicle prior to this. The motor was racing but no power was getting to the wheels.it was a sudden and total loss of power transmission.i had to coast across three lanes of traffic to get to the right and was fortunate to be able to exit the freeway. I then tried all gears including reverse but none workedthe transmission had to be replaced. A used transmission was used (rebuilt was also available for considerably more money). No real diagnosis was made of the cause of failure. The vehicle and transmission had about 82000 miles usage at the time. The transmission fluid was periodically checked and always was fine but had never been replaced (the owners manual says to check it every 30000 miles, but doesn't say to replace it unless operating under special conditions like towing which i never did).

Loud noise in rear end of vehicle. Toyota dealership kept saying it was my tires. Until, i took it to another mechanic.rear differential failure at 85,000 miles. Front & rear bearings were gaulded. "never" drove 4 runner under special conditions! vehicle maintenance was always kept up to date. Experience heavy vibration when brakes are applied especially when going down hills.i have been through 2 sets of rotors in 2 years.dealer is of no help.i am a single mom and drive my children around in this suv daily.this seems to be a safety issue, just wanted it out there in case anything ever happens.

Road was slippery when brakes were applied.brakes had locked up, and vehicle started to skid toleft fromright hand lane. Vehicle hit a barrier. Had no control.

Toyota recommends in the owners manual that brakes be inspected each 7500 miles.i did not see this in my manual.this is the only notice an owner receives.at 19,900 miles my rear brakes failed because adjustments had not been made every 7500 miles.i did not get any warning lights, only rear brake failure.if the general maintenance is not performed each 7500 miles the brakes can fail and mine did.the manufacturer will not cover this under the warranty.there is no warning before rear brake failure.the owner must rely on their memory to ensure safe operation of rear brakes.

While traveling in snow and applying brakes, the braking system would not kick in, causingvehicle to slide into antother vehicle. Please provide further informaton.

When pulling my 2000 limited 4wd 4 runner back onto the highway over a 1inch piece of asphalt my entire wheel came off, causing my vehcle to flip. In addition, that 4runner and the replacement 2000 4wd 4runner's antiskid/anti lock brakes failed and locked when depressing the brakes while hitting a small bump in the road. The vehicle doesn't stop and has almost caused a number of accidents both with other vehicles and with people in the crosswalk.

Consumer states that while drivingover bumps anti lock brakes would shut off. Dealer notified.

When driving slow ly and applying the brakes andcar goes over a bump, anti-lock brakes may or may not kick in.consumer took his car to the dealership.

In cold weather brakes do not work immediately after starting engine resulting in car backing up or moving forward when placed in gear. This occurs in spite of pressing hard on brake pedal. The brakes pedal feels like you are secure but they are not working. This is an accident waiting to happen.

Vehicle was moving about 5 miles per hour into a parking spot while brake pedal was being pressed , all of a sudden there was an instant engine surge which propelled the vehicle over the parking lot media and crashed into the rear of another car.

I was drivingaround a curve at about 25 to 30 miles per hour speed on a slightly wet road. When i applied brakes, the vehicle skidded out of control and hit the divider wall on the passanger side and rolled over.

Consumer states during normal braking on dry or wet surface the wheels would lock up intermittently and vehicle would slide causing loss of control, dealer notified and unable to duplicate the problem. Nlm

While driving extreme vibrations occurred in the front end ofvehicle. This problem became more pronounced whenbrakeswere applied. Also, brake pads and rotorsprematurely wore out.cause unknown.

Front brake rotors are defective.the dealership (kerry toyota - florence, ky) replaced my front rotors at 18,000 miles due to warping.they are now vibrating again (36,800 miles) due to warping.i still have the original brake pads (only 50% worn). The dealership is now suggesting that the rotors be turned ($138)which i feel is only a temporary fix.they say its 'normal wear and tear'. I completely disagree.i'm not towing anything nor do i live in a mountainous area where long down-hill braking could be an issue.this is clearly a design flaw on the part of toyota.

I have 49,000 miles on toyota 4 runner and am on my 4th set of rotors. Dealer claims it is our driving habits and not the fault of the design. They are 16" brakes on 16" tires; tires are oem from goodyear.*la

Front rotors are warped.dealer has inspectedvehicle and will replacerotors.

Warped rotors on my 2000 toyota 4 runner 2wd sr5 causing vibrations problems at 37,000 miles. This very common problem should be fixed at toyota's expense.

My dealer told me that under normal driving contions, that my rotorswill get out of true.they say this is do to heat, aka long braking, down hill.i talked with my service manager at fremont toyota about this and his 4runner does it, but is a few years older than my truck.if the rotters heat and getout of true and while braking downhill the front end of the 4runner has a magjor vibration and the truck feels like its you could lose control.i have talked with other people about and they(old toyota works, etc.) say that the 4runner braking system is not designed right.if the rotters get out of true under normal driving condition the rotters get out of true, caused by heat; it seems that the heat disapation for the fron brakes needs to be better and or a bigger/harder rotter to handle the wight of the truck and it brakes and the rotters heat up.

I have less than 50,000 miles and i am on my 3rd set of rotors.the last set lasted less than a year. I don't understand why this is happening. The rotors sure look small for the size of the truck and the size of the tires. I can tell you that i have never had to replace rotors before on any of my vehicles. The dealer said it could be my wife's fault. I don't know what that means..please help me.

Ongoing problem with vibration when braking. Problem has existed since car was new.

Wheneverbrakes are applied would have vibrations while going up anddown hills. Took to dealership, and hadrotors and pads replaced due to warping.

Service dept. Said rotors overheat and warp because of where i live.

Rotors overheat, warp.dealer states it is because i live where few roads are straight.

Rotors warped for the 3rd time.

The vehicle has the brake system for a 15 inch rim, however vehicle came stocked with 16 inch rims which requires a larger 16 inch rotor, the consumer requests that the dealer provide the vehicle with the appropriate rotor because the vehicle has experienced poor braking and premature wear of the brakes.nlm

Left rear tire suddenly failed while i was towing a 3000 lb trailer on a major freeway. The rear of the toyota started to sway which in turn caused the trailer to start to sway. The toyota swung back and forth violently and nearly rolled over. Damage was done to both the trailer and the toyota as the two vehicles jack knifed and struck each other. I was able to come to a stop on a rough shoulder of the road which did additional damage. I believe the goodyear tires were not sufficiently heavy duty for 4 wheeling on primitive roads and trailer towing. The 4runner came with a towing package which also was inadequate. The sock absorbers are too soft for stable towing. Adjustable stiffer shocks should be provided on such a vehicle as well as some kind of vehicle leveling system to provide more stable towing. The sport seat with leather in the 2000 4runner sr5; the left side of the driver seat folds over during the exit from the vehicle. When the seat side folds over it folds over on to the height adjustment knob and causes the leather to crack. I have had the seat cover replaced under warranty but am concerned when my warranty expires. I have the same problem again 10 months later, and am now told it is fair wear and tear. I do not believe i should have to pay to replace the seat cover if i am doing nothing wrong. There is now way to enter or exit the vehicle and not have the side of the seat fold over onto the height adjustment knob, thus creating the abnormal wear and cracks.dt

Driver's side rear view mirror glass is warped. All other vehicles on lot had same problem. Bbs feedback indicates other owners are experiencing same problem. Shortly after i purchased my new vehicle, i noticed the driver's side rear-view mirror was warped. I went to a local dealer and it was replaced as a warranty item, but the replacement was worse than the original. A new mirror was ordered, and it was warped just as badly as the one that was installed (the third was never installed). The dealer said toyota was contacted, and now refuses to take anymore action to replace the mirror, or tell me in writing what is being done to correct the situation.

The vehicle doesn't stop and has almost caused a number of accidents both with other vehicles and with people in the crosswalk.
