While driving approximately 20 mph head gasket blow out. Consumer took vehicle to dealerfro service, and it was determined thatengine overheated.
The headgasket blew.recalls issued on head gaskets for this year, but toyota will not cover repairs on my vehicle.
Thevehicle experienced the same defect stated in the recall in reference to the head gasket, but the vin number was not (unable to locate recall number).tscoolant leaked from the vehicle.scc
White smoke was coming from manifold pipe, and vehicle's temperature gauge registered hot.dealership was aware of problem.
Engine overheats, antifreeze disappearing apparently into the engine through the defective failed head gasket, engine skipping, huge white smoke cloud exits the tailpipe. Antifreeze enters the engine block through the failed head gasket. Engine needs to be replaced $2500 , rebuilt or best case a new head gasket installed for $1000
I purchased a used 1995 toyota 4runner that was serviced regularly by a licensed mechanic.the car had no problems leading up to the head gasket failure that i just experienced.the head gasket blew approximately 75 miles from home while my daughter was driving and may have caused other engine problems not yet determined.from searching the internet i have found that this is a very much more than isolated problem with toyota head gaskets.toyota issued a service campaign admitting the problem, but it limited the number years.the problem has obviously continued in the same manner since the campaign but toyota refuses to admit that fact.the nhtsa needs to investigate, and protect the consumer from the danger of engine failure on the roadway, as well as extreme repair cost by forcing toyota to extend their campaign or announce a recall to fix the problem.
Head gasket failed on my 1995 4wd 3.0 v6 with only 80,000 miles. Taken to spitzer toyota dealership for repairs. Toyota claimed no responsibility for the failure citing, "insufficient maintenance" despite thousands of complaints from other model year owners for the same failure and recalls affecting models years before and after 1995.
Head gasket failiure - toyota will not honor all service bulitins and recalls on this model and year. Engine and components are the same as other recalled toyota 4-runners.95 toyota 4runner -
Premature head gasket failure, due to inferior or substandard head gaskets at time of manufacturer and also at time of factory recall (special service campaign).should be using the best available, which is mls (multi-layer-steel), not playing semantic games over "racing" equipment, or "high performance", which are just terms which translate into "greater durability" for the consumer.website:seehttp://www.aa1car.com/library/2005/ic010532.htmconsider classic situation of single mom with child en route from ski trip through wilderness highway, or driving in crime-ridden areas which impair driver safety.head gasket failure is not a roadside fix and stranded motorist is also a safetyviolation.this problem is occurring throughout major lines of vehicles everywhere in the automotive industry.
At 108775 miles the head gasket went out. 1990 thruough early production '1995 vehicles had the same problem, but were covered under warranty.late production 1995 were suposedto have been built with a different gasket and were not covered.my vehicle was a late 1995 production, but it stillhead gasket failure.the gasket had a slow leak and caused rust in all 6 cylinders and coolant passageways.dealership wanted me to pay for all repairs.
I bought a 1995 toyota 4 runner in november, 2005. The vehicle was in running condition when i bought it and drove it about 1,500 miles when suddenly the engine overheated and the vehicle would not start. After allowing it to cool down and putting in coolant it did start and i was able to drive the vehicle back home.researching the matter i came to find that toyota had a recall on the 4 runner due to a faulty cooling system leading to a failure of the head gasket. Toyota was doing the first round of gasket repair for the owners. When i contacted toyota for the matter they declined my request for the repair under the recall saying that my vehicle's warranty had expired after 60 months and/or 60,000 miles. Now they will charge up to $2,500 to repair the vehicle. It is wrong of toyota to include some and exclude some of the 4 runners with the same engines and faults. As a result i am having to have the vehicle repaired at a cost of more than $2,000 and i have the old parts.
Independent repair shop indicated head gasket may be blown.coolant loss caused engin to overheat.waterpump and pullies froze breaking timing belt.dealer fixed water pump, pullies and timing belt.said headgasket not covered by current recall and coolant loss is due to bad radiator cap.engine running rough on cold start.dealer said they forgot to correctly gap spark plugs-did not fix running rough.engine still loosing coolant 1 gal/week.appears to be headgasket problem but toyota says thicker headgasket was installed in all v6 4-runners after 10/94 and that is why 1995's are not included.this is a major problem that needs to be addressed by nhtsa to toyota.
Radiator leaks fluid, and dealer has worked on it twice. It works intermittently.
Vehicle has very tiny pin holes in radiator.vehicle was taken to dealer to be serviced for air conditioning & nothing was mentioned about tiny pin holes in radiator.also, spots are beginning to rust around areas. Dealer says it is normal wear & tear.
Head gaskets causedvehicle to overheat.also, radiator constantly leaked water out.deaelr was notified. Please provide more information.
While driving engine overheated andradiator blewout. Consumer was forced to drive offroad, and saw stain coming out of tail pipe. Then, saw a leakcaused by ablown out head gasket.
Engine failure.
While driving there was a dull bang noise from engine, andheavy grey smoke came fromexhaust. Engine had gasket blew out.vehicle had to be towed.
The manufacturer of toyota's has a manufacture initiated recall covering blown head gaskets for vehicles (trucks with v6 engines) manufactured january 1990 to october 1994 (5 years). I have a toyota 4 runner manufactured in june 1995 that has the same problem. But my vehicle does not fall in the coverage period of dates, it is only out by 6 months from the range. I feel the coverage periodwere /are not wide enough to resolve an existing problem.*nlm
Engine head gasket failure causing large amount of smoke formed from fuel exhaust and engine coolant mixed. Car would not start after failure because of build up of coolant inside the cynlinder so piston would not compress and car would not start.
Head gasket blew while driving up a long grade on the highway. Temperature gauge read normal. I realized it was overheating when anti-freeze started spraying on my windshield. Blown head gasket caused engine to overheat and crack block. Had to replace engine at $8,000.
I purchased a 1995 toyota 4 runner with a v6in july of 2003 during summertime. When winter approached, it appeared the thermostat had been stuck open (heater was not working). Later found out that the thermostat had been removed prior to my purchase (dealer apparently didn't know) because the head gasket was blown. Replaced the head gaskets at $2500 and now the engine burns oil consistently and the power of the v6 is just not there. I am extremely disappointed with toyota by not repairing or taking responsibility for all of their problems.
Blown engine head gasket. Check engine light came on and vehicle was taken to dealership for engine diagnostics. Blown head gasket identified. I checked with manufacturer regarding recall and was told that head gasket recall is by vin number only and that my vehicle vin number is not part of the recall. It is very unusual for a head gasket to prematurely fail at 100k miles. And it seems that this problem is prevalent on toyota 4runners and the recall should not be by vin number but a total recall.
Engine head gasket blew.no advance warning was given. Whileconsumer was drivingoil started to drop, and the temperature went up. Alsothere was a loud noise.after beingreviewed by a mechanic, entire engine had to be rebuilt.
Head gasket failed resulting in loss of coolant, overheating, engine misses and discharge of white smoke, service campaign was issued but consumer vehicle not included.nlm
Took truck in to get oil changed and get a tune-up, mechanic tells me i have a blown gasket. Talked to the toyota dealership near me, said that it was a rare problem and it was going to cost at least $1500 to repair. Called an independent mechanic, said it happens all the time. Called toyota's "customer service" after reading on the internet about at "secret warranty" for this problem. "customer service" indicated my vin was not part of the campaign to fix the problem.
Head gasket was leaking oil causing the engine to blow up.yh
1995 toyota 4runner, v6 3.0 liter: engine light came on, took vehicle to independent shop and they identified possible head gasket leak. Brought it to toyota dealership, they confirmed leaks at valves 1 and 6, and found erosion on both cylinder heads. They also informed me that my vehicle was manufactured after the date range for the "head gasket special service campaign", so i was told the repairs would not be covered by toyota. However, the dealership managed to get toyota to cover engine parts (head gasket, cylinder heads, and valves). I paid for labor, approximately $2,200. (the dealership said the parts would have been approximately another $1,800.00). *la
Consumer was driving approx. 55-60 mph when the power of vehicle was fading, she noticed white smoke in rear area, then the front started to steam out. Mechanic checked coolant for leak check head gasket remove cylinder head reserviced and balbe grind it and install cylinder head with new gasket , timing belt and water pump.
Engine head gasket problem.
White smoke was coming from manifold pipe, and vehicle's temperature gauge registered hot.dealership was aware of problem.
The head gasket failed.
Dt*:the contact stated while parked, a lack of compression was noticed when the accelerator was depressed.the vehicle was taken to the dealership who tested the engine and determined the head gasket had to be replaced.the vehicle remained inoperable waiting for a solution from the manufacturer.
Valves failed. *dh
There was an oil leak from the gasket through engine and coming out of the exhaust.
Head gasket failure, potential fire.
My toyota 4 runner had its head gasket changed 5 months ago and it has to be done again. I was told when i bought the car that going by my vin number, toyota had resolved the head gasket problems they had been plagued with. Now, not only have i had the head gasket changed once but twice in 5 months.
The vehicle stalled, and did not restart.
Blown head gasket.was told vin number does not fall in range for "campaign" sscv06 or before the 10/94 manufactured date (vehicle has 12/94 manufactured date).causing overheating, coolant consumption, rough starting, and expensive damage/repair.
Head gaskets causedvehicle to overheat.also, radiator constantly leaked water out.deaelr was notified. Please provide more information.
Head gasket failed resulting in engine misses.service campaign issued for same mk/model but excludes this vin.
Vehicle experienced a blown engine head gasket. It was discovered by an indendent repairs shop. Dealer/manufacturer notified, and informedconsumerthat vehicle was not under a manufacturer's recall.
With no prior warning, consumer'scar emittedcontinuously large amount of white smoke from tail pipe.smoke smelled of burnt antifreeze.car idled roughly.it was noticed that coolant level was extremely low.when consumer attempted to drive car to dealership to be serviced, car overheated.it was observed that steam was also coming out of anterior of radiator near the cap.car was stopped immediately and towed to dealer the next day.informed by dealership it was blown head gasket.talked to toyota in torrance ca, was informed that car was not part of recall or extended service warranty, and therefore will not offer any assistance in repair.consumer has friend with the same year car that had the same thing happen. Consumer's car was manufactured nov 94, the month following the end of special policy adjustment that covered 1990-early1995 4runner.car was repaired at independant mechanic for $2600.mechanic was then working on another 4runner with blown head gasket.consumer later found out another friend with 96 4runner also had blown head gasket.she was lucky that her car was covered by the 1996 through early 1997 4runner head gasket special service campaign.it seems like everyone with the 4runner has the same thing happen to.in fact, consumer does not know anyone with 4runner who doesn't have same problem. Obviously whatever changes instituted was not sufficient since the gaskets continue to fail. Toyota should just admit the problem and make it right to save its good name.
The head gasket were replaced under the toyota special service bulletin vo6 at 62000mi. They are now failing again at 155,980. It is a danger to the ocupants of the vehicle to have the engine "blow" and the back wheels stop on a busy road. This problem is going to happen and is in a large number of these vehicles as they aproch the 155000mi mark and will have to be fixed again, this time with their own money. This part should not fail a second time there is still a defect in the engine, gasket, or the procedure to re-assembling the engine will making the repair. Toyota needs to admit that it is still not fixed and make sure all that have this problem can have it repaired under the "no age, no mileage" clause in the service document.
Engine head gaskets blew caused the anti-freeze to get into the spark plugs which caused the vehicle to idle rough on a cold start.my vehicle was not included in the recall to replace the head gaskets.
Engine head gasket failed.water entered engine and engine stopped causing owner to have to have head rebuilt and head gasket replaced.cost to owner to repair engine was $1,071.
The head gasket blew causing antifreeze to leak into the radiator.at the time i was in a remote location in montana.both mechanic and myself called toyota and both were told there was a recall on '95 4-runner, but i was off by 1 vehicle identification number, which excluded me from the recall.gasket replaced, then at 89,129 miles. Engine rod blew. The entire engine had to be replaced.at that time i was 30 miles outside missoula, montana, so vehicle was towed to toyota dealer in missoula.(purchase was from classic toyota in mentor, oh.) i was told by dealer that once again, my vehicle identification number did not fit recall. Toyota service mechanic offered to buy vehicle from me for $5000, told me it would cost 4,500-4,900 to fix.once again took back to same indiana mechanic, calls were again made to toyota by him again (also by myself), told sorry wrong vehicle identification number, off by a digit. Engine was replaced then at 124,096 miles engine blew again.no other problems have been encountered with this car-just the same engine/gasket component. It should also be noted that oil changes and dealer recommended routine care was taken. I can not even give the car away, it has been sitting in my driveway since september 2002.toyota has not proven tobe helpful or courteous in this issue.i will never buy a toyota product again.
Cylinder head replaced twice. *dh
Head gasket failure: dull bang occurs in engine, excessive white smoke billows from exhaust. Exhaust smells sweet from anti-freeze. Engine ran rough from one cylinder misfiring. Coolant is being blown from radiator cap. Had to pull over immediatly in heavy traffic. Vehicle towed to home. Test on engine oil finds that coolant has mixed with engine lubricating oil. Discussion with toyota certified mechanic result: this is a common problem with the new head gaskets and is usually catastrophic needing engine rebuld/replacement as the engine block usually needs re-decking(milling) beyond maximum allowable tolerances; coolant gallery comes too close to cylinder wall at head. Contacted dealer, refered to toyota national service hotline (800-331-4331) and was told that the prior years head gasket recall did not include my year, and was resolved for my year vehicle by installing heavier head gaskets at point of engine manufacture. No assistance from toyota national service, but if i was willing to purchase a new toyota that toyota national sales would offer assistance after the sale was made. The estimate to replace the engine is $5,300.00 with rebuild (jasper or other). Seeking financing to repair/replace engine.
The consumer took the vehicle to the dealer and was told by the service technician that the head gasket needed to be replaced. The cost was over 1000.00.provide further details.
Head gasket failure known to toyota but fails to compensate consumer for repairs.
Whiledriving at 20-25 mph and when pulling out of a parking lotvehicle was driving very rough.also, smokewas coming fromexhaust pipe. Contacteddealer, dealer noticed that head gasket had failed. Please provide any further details.
Blown head gasket resulted in contamination of oil, engine failure.blown head gasket resulted in contamination of oil by coolant, which eventually caused engine failure. Engine needs new short block, at cost of $5,200-$6,200. Toyota says "it's not our problem." head gasket repaired under warranty at 58,652 miles. Now engine fails. Have learned independently of possible coolant contamination of the oil and serious damage to engine (e.g. Crankshaft bearings) when head gasket failed. Customer never notified of head gasket defect or recall until mine failed. Never told of possible damage to engine. Independent mechanics have advised that the short block should have been replaced at time head gasket was replaced because of probable coolant contamination of oil, which damages bearings and eventually results in engine failure.toyota only replaced the head gasket.now unwilling to cover resulting damage to engine b/c outside of 100,000 mile warranty and they deny related to head gasket failure.
While driving engine overheated andradiator blewout. Consumer was forced to drive offroad, and saw stain coming out of tail pipe. Then, saw a leakcaused by ablown out head gasket.
Head gasket leaking at 93000 emailed toyota with vin #they statemy vehicle not part of recall even thoughrecall was for same year, same engine and same problem.
Had vehicle parked. Noticed beneath vehicle a small puddle under engine area. Took to private mechanic. Was informed head gaskets had blown and were leaking. Also a service bulletin for head gaskets. Owner contacted both manufacturerand dealership. Informed campaign was for head gaskets, but not vehicle.
Head gasket blewout while driving.consumer feels unsafe to drive due to previous head gasket recall. This vehicle not included in recall.
Head gasket blown, white smoke, loss of coolant, very costly repair. As reported by numerous others on this web site, toyota does not cover the cost to repair this vehicle because they have fixed the problem on later model 1995 3.0l v6. Because vehicle was manufactured in november 1995 it is not covered. The defect is exactly the same as those manufactured prior to november, and those are covered. It is obvious that the number of complaints for the later model 1995 4 runners indicate the defect was not corrected.
Anti-freeze goes into a block engine because of a bad head gasket, and causes anti-freeze to become a toxic gas. Consumer can smell and taste anti-freeze when it comes out of the vent. Consumer feels the are being poisened.
While driving about 35 mph engine check lightcame on/off.consumer took vehicle to dealer because the engine light did not go off, the mechanic told consumer engine head gasket was broken andneeded to be repaired and they did.consumer received two recall noticesconcerning engine head gasket.
I have several complaints about the gasket defect/problem, when or will there be a recall on this part!?
My mechanic states that the head gaskets were recalled, and they think it should be covered.toyota says that my vin # is not eligible for this recall.
Consumer states that while driving on freeway vehicle overheated. Head gaskets were damaged.*mr
Blown head gasket in 3.0l v6 1995 toyota 4runner. A "known problem"corporate rep at toy says the vin # does not fall in their 'identified population.'the rep told me it covered from late 1990 to early 1995 (my vehicle was built in april 1995. My question is if it took toyota years to acknowledge this defect and issue a service recall, how is it they feel this vehicle , manufactured in early 1995, with the same, known head gasket problem.....should not be included in their 'population'???
Engine on 1995 toyota 4runner overheated.discovered water in oil, mechanic advised possible failed head gasket "it's common to this vehicle" but would have to remove heads to confirm.toyota stated my vin # is not covered as i see many many others are not as well.dealer estimated $2,300 to fix, if there was not head damage.manufacture data is march 1995 why are so many 4runners that are having the same problems not covered?
When pulling out onto the highway, i notice a big cloud of smoke coming from the exhaust and after awhile it disapated. This happened a couple more times and i noticed the vehicle running a little rough. When i took it to my mechanic, he discovered the head gasket was leaking near the #6 cylinder. When i contacted toyota, they explained to me that the head gasket "recall" didn't apply to me because my vin number wasn't included in the recall. It sounds to me like toyota has a defective product that they are not backing up.
While drivingvehicle completely shutdown. When this happened battery light illuminated.however, this was not the cause ofproblem. Please give any further details.
Major oil leakage, had same prob w/'90 4runner, seal failed oil/antifreeze mixed and killed engine-obviously toyota hasn't fixed this defect.
No summary listed for above vehicle.
The head gasket failed which then caused engine to overheat which caused the destruction of the engines short block.toyota has issued a service campaign notice: 3v2-e (v06)which covers this problem (nhtsa item number:sb037553).but it only covers early production 1995 toyota 4runners.toyota claims that my vehicle (vin) is not included in this campaign and therefore not covered even though the failure experienced is consistent with the campaign notice. Toyota (to their credit) has provided a replacement short block at no charge during the engine rebuild.but, toyota has not contributed the labor costs and additional components that were damaged as a result of the failure. We believe that toyota's service bulletin which claims that the head gasket has been improved does not actually fix the problem.see: nhtsa item number:sb037547 we further believe that toyota should cover the cost of the the labor for this repair work.
This seems to be an ongoing problem with toyota's 4runner.why no action yet???toyota did a non-mandatory campaign for the prior model year for the same problem.why have they not been obligated to do one for this model year as well?when i try to speak with toyota they are intentionally ambiguous and never willing to discuss the changes they performed on the previous models.it is common knowledge to both toyota and indepedent mechanics there are intrinsic problems with this make and model.currently 25% of your complaints with this year and model are related to this intrinsic engine problem.how can you a governmental agency justify your lack of attention and support for the public????you need to begin some type of action!!!!

I received a safety recall notice ssc 50n steering relay rod replacement for my 1995 toyota 4runner several months ago.as of this date, there are no parts available, according to several toyota dealers, to make the repair.due to the nature of the part defect, my 2 front tires are wearing badly and need to be replaced.this will not solve the problem, just cost more money when those tires need to be replaced.i don't understand the point of a recall if the manufacturer refuses to supply parts to correct the problem.toyota has given me no timeline when the parts will be available.this is unacceptable and dangerous.

First brought attention to toyota dealership in october 1996, i hadn't owned the vehicle a year yet.the complaint was vibration in the front end of vehicle. I have been to three toyota dealerships and no one can find the problem with the front end. There is vibrations while driving down the street, hwy, etc. When i take it into the mechanic and they lift up the vehicle and then put it back down, it fixes the problem. Then a week or a month later the vibration comes back.if you hit a bump in the road it comes back or sometimes fixes it self until the next bump. This vehicle has not ever been recked or four wheel driving. No one knows what the problem is but no one is helping me to alevate the problem. I am now to the point where i have mentioned this to a lawery and i am writing letters to the toyota complaint deparment and to the general attorney. I have been getting information on the lemon law and feel i do have a lemon. I would like to know if there has been any other 4 runners reported with this same problem. Thank you.
I had 2 blowouts with these tires within 5 days.one center tread and one sidewall blow out.the tires have only about 25,000 miles on them.they were both rear tires and i feel lucky to be alive.i have replaced all 4 tires to be safe.thanks!( dot number: tire size: 225/75/15 )
Justto let you guys know, these tires looked new, on the freeway another comuter warned me of a flat tire. Thank goodness she warned me, by the time i could pull over the tread had pealed off, the tire was blown, and my wheel well was polished/ scratched up. I didn't have the receipt for the tires so i just replaced them. (quickly!) i have many witnesses who were astonished at the way the tire looked after blowing out.( dot number: ? tire size: p23575r15 )

I was driving my ex-fiance's suv on the highway at speed of 70 mph.i started hearing a noise and thought maybe it's just the car in back of me.then the car started out of control.i couldn't steer it in the right direction.i hit the car on right side, but my car wouldn't stop.so the car keep going and i hit the guard rail of the highway.my car then flipped at impact.witness said that i rolled over 6 times, but it seems like it would never stop.i came out only to have cuts to me elbow which requires 8 stiches.i was in shock and still am now everytime i drive my car.i don't dare drive an suv anymore.what happen was that the tread of my tires came off, which cause the tire blowout. I'm still scare and shocked from all that had happen, but i am lucky and thank god that i'm still alive. (tiresize: atx)( dot number:tire size: atx )

We have noticed that the tread has begun to crack off of the right front tire of my 4-runner.when the tires were initially purchased eighteen months ago, two (right rear and left front) were deemed defective by the tire store after i complained that the ride was considerably rougher than should be, and those two were replaced days after purchased.( dot number: tire size: 225/75/r15 )

In april, 2000 my 1995 toyota 4-runner needed a new block.we were still under warranty and had toyota of garden grove do the work necessary. Total charges were 5300.insurance picked up most of this.then in may of 2003, the same thing happened-only this time we were not under warranty.with rental cars and repairs, our total is up to 3200.we were told by the 2nd mechanics that the first mechanics who claimed to put in all new engine and parts that this was not so.this seems absurb for a vehicle that has only 93,000 miles on it to need 2 engines in a 3 year period.we were completely lied to by toyota of garden grove-thus causing us alot of money in repairs this time around. I am not a negligent car owner-i maintain my car because i am aware of the consequences if you let things go.my father has worked as a service manager my whole life so i am aware of maintaining a car.

My 95 toyota 4 runner has 90k miles and the head gasket has broken.this problem existed w/ 89 - 95's.toyota did a complimentary campaign to fix the head gasket @ toyota's expense, but ourvin # was not covered, due b/c our vin # was 6 months prior to the new engines w/ the corrected problem.we have contacted the better business bureau, toyota corp. Our local toyota dealerships, our local toyota regional rep, but to no avail will toyota assist us in anyway.it seems to me that this is a danger and if toyota is aware then they should accomodate their customer and should be responsible to ensure the safety of their customers.
