Vehicle rear ended causing a right hand spin resulting in a driver side down vehicle landing position in a 4 foot deep ditch at about 25 mph.driver side air bag did not deploy and driver received shoulder injury and head hit on driver side pillar post between front and rear left hand doors. I have an issue with the air bag sensor under the passenger seat of my 2008 suzuki sx-4 sdn.the air bag light on the dash comes on and stays on, as well as the passenger seat belt light on the information display comes on and stays on.i took the vehicle to the dealership and they checked the code and found a code recorded for the airbag system.they could not determine what triggered the code however they said they reset the system and it should be fine.the same day the lights came back on so i took the vehicle back to the same dealer.this time they told me that the passenger side under seat assembly which contains the air bag sensor was bad and would need replaced at a cost of $2500 just for the part.i went on the internet and searched for similar problems and was surprised to find that there are many others with the same problem.the company has not agreed to do anything to alleviate the problem for me or the others that have had the same problem.i have also not been able to discern for sure whether the air bags will work as long as the vehicle has this problem.if not it is a definite safety problem and should require a recall to fix the problems or replace the defective parts.as i said this seems to be a very common problem with not only the 2008 suzuki vehicles but also the 2007 model year suzukis.i have basically been told that since the vehicle is out of warranty that i am out of luck, however i feel that if this is a defect that they are aware of and have not done anything about that they should be held responsible, especially if the problem is potentially endangering the operators of these vehicles.
The contact owns a 2008 suzuki sx4. The contact stated that the passenger side air bag warning light deactivated erroneously while a passenger was occupying the seat. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be repaired under nhtsa campaign number 13v405000 (air bags) but it was unable to be diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted about the failure. The failure mileage was not available.
I was crossing a street (with the green light) entering the driveway to the apartment complex, there is a dip at the entrance to the driveway so i was doing about 3 mph. A dodge durango suv, ran the "red" light and struck my vehicle on the passenger side front door totaling the suzuki, knocking the car about 20 feet sideways, and rendering me unconscious..the durango was doing approximately 45-50 mph upon impact, he was not looking where he was going, he was talking to his girlfriend, and consequently did not apply the brakes, until he struck my car.none of the air bags deployed on the impact, which added to the lateral direction of travel of my head and neck, causing severe whiplash.suzuki has had problems with their air bag system for at least five years and there was a recall of the air bag sensor, which i never received. In fact i never received any of the recalls issued by suzuki.i had driven the car over 100,000 miles without any problems at all, however the main impact safety feature was not operable and suzuki knew it and failed to inform me.i am fortunate that i am alive, broken and bruised, but alive. My grandson is generally with me, and would have surely been killed, had he been in the car at the time of the accident.
The "passenger airbag off" indicator light illuminates intermittently when the passenger seat is occupied by 5'4" tall, 125 pound adult female.this was first observed during a very cold day (25f) in february, 2012.however, it has been happening in warm weather (75f) in march, 2012 .sometimes the light shuts off after a few minutes.other times it stays on until the start of the next drive cycle.
At an early mileage (~18000 mi) the passengers airbag when on indicating the airbag was disabled. I took the car to the dealer but they said if it was not on at that time, they coulddo anything. The problem persisted until now that the main panel airbag light is permanently on. I called the dealer and they said there is no longer under warranty due to the mileage. I also started a research on this specific topic on this car model and it seems it is a common issue among them. Since the dealer rep. Said no a single airbag will deploy in an accident, i suggest nhtsa to investigate this problem as a manufacturers defect.
Air bag warning lights for both the driver and front passenger lit up and remain always on, regardless of whether a person is seated in the passenger seat or not. Both the driver side and passenger side airbag lights remain on and do not turn off.
Our airbag and seatbelt lights came on about a month or so ago and wouldn't go off. We made an appointment with the nearest suzuki dealer which is about 100 miles away. At first they thought it had to do with the seat belt and agreed to a goodwill repair of this. We just came back from that appointment and found out that did not fix the problem and that we need to replace a sensor which will cost over 800.00. They said the airbags would probably not deploy but couldn't be sure is one or both bags would not deploy. They will call the rep and see what they will do. This happened when we were just over 60,000 miles on the car. This is a safety issue and we can see that many people have the same problem. We hope it doesn't take a fatality for this to become a recall.
I have a yellow light and and red airbag light on i already toke to the dealer and it's still the same and now the engine started knocking and the dealer in our area move nowhere to be found what can i do or where can i take it to get check
Passenger seat airbag light came on and stays on. Took car to dealer and they said it is a faulty airbag sensor that is located within the seat. It is not covered under warranty. The seat has to be replaced at a cost of approx. $1500. Dealer said airbags may or may not work during an accident. I looked this up online and it is a common problem with 2008 suzukis. However, many people who work in the automotive repair field say that all the airbags definitely will not work. My college-age daughter drives this car. I'm afraid for her to drive it! this is a serious safety issue. Please do something!
The contact owns a 2008 suzuki sx4. The contact stated there was a recall under nhtsa campaign id number 13v405000 (air bag) and the part needed was unavailable to perform the repair. The dealer was unable to provide an expected date for the part to be available. The manufacturer was notified of the problem. There are no failures at this time.
2008 suzuki sx4- took into dealership for complaint of ticking noise under the hood. After a $98 diagnostic fee they determined it needed a new engine because of bad rods due to oil starvation. After talking with service manager and dealership general manager both decided that repairs were not covered under 100,000 mile powertrain warranty. Also the air bag warning light stays on and it was also determined that the entire seat would have to be replaced in addition to thecatalytic convertor being replaced due to bad oxygen sensor. I have proof of all maintance and service repairs to include oil changes etc. I requested a meeting with general manager and was assured that he would investigate situation and get back with me in a couple of days. It has been a week and only communication i have received is a text message on my cell phone stating that no part of the powertrain warranty would apply even though the powertrain warranty includes all things listed in diagnostic review ofthe car this is extremely unprofessional and shows that suzuki does not stand by their products. The contact owns a 2008 suzuki sx4. While parked, the contact noticed that the air bag and the front passenger side seat belt warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing where the technicians stated that the front passenger side seat cushion would have to be replaced. After the repair the failure continued. The vehicle was not further repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 38,000.
The front driver's side airbag warning light came on and stayed on.there has been no accident or anything out of the ordinary.
The contact owns a 2008 suzuki sx4. The contact stated that the air bag warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer to be repaired under nhtsa campaign number: 13v405000 (air bags). The dealer informed the contact that the vehicle could not be repaired under the recall due to the state where the vehicle was purchased. The dealer advised that the vehicle be taken to the state it was purchased for the recall repair. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vin was not available. The failure mileage was not available. ....updated 07/22/15updated 10/2/2017
Passenger airbag sensor in seat burned out causing all airbags to disable.the airbag lights were stayin on then not and then eventually stayed on permenantly.must replace whole cushion for a simple sensor... Megabucks.
The icon for the airbags came on while i was driving on an interstate highway.i had my usual service station investigate it, but they did not have the correct computer to diagnose the problem.i made an appointment and brought it fifty miles (one way) to the dealer in syracuse, ny.after charging me for an hour and a half of diagnostic time ($149.06) they identified it needed a repair costing approximately $1200.00.i contacted suzuki corporate on brea, calif.the man called and said he would intercede to obtain a "goodwill" repair.that was denied by regional service manager.car has no functioning airbags at this time.furthermore, it cannot be sold or traded as is.
The airbag light stays on constantly, i went to the suzuki dealership and they said there were faulty airbag sensors in the seat and the entire seat would have to be replaced at my cost of approximately $2000, that the airbags would not work without the seat being replaced and not to drive the vehicle because it was a safety issue. I am a single mom, school teacher and bought the vehicle expecting reliable transportation. I have to drive it or loose my job and do not have $2000 to fix it. After i researched on the internet there are multiple complaints about this same issue. There needs to be a safety recall at the manufacturers expense.
The contact owns a 2008 suzuki sx4. The contact stated that the air bag warning light illuminated. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 13v405000 (air bags) and stated that the parts needed for the repair were not available. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 93,000.
The contact owns a 2008 suzuki sx4. The contact stated the air bag warning light continuously illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated that due to the failure the air bags were deactivated.also, they informed him the parts needed to repair the failure were on back order. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure who stated the vehicle was safe to drive and did not offer any assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 46,000.
Since i purchased the vehicle, the air bag light has been on. When i start the car up, it says the passenger side air bag is off. Also, the passenger side seat belt light in consistently on, regardless of whether or not someone is sitting in the passenger seat, and regardless or whether or not the seat belt is plugged in. I checked my owner's manual, as i thought perhaps something got shut off, but i see nothing in the manual that tells me how to turn the air bags on.i've since done research on this issue, and from what i've read, my air bags may not go off if i'm involved in a collision, and there are multiple complaints from other sx4 owners about this issue.
Passenger airbag lite stays on and the airbag indicator symbol on the speedometer remains on.we were told by the dealer that the air bags will not deploy with these indications.the problem was coded with a 10 driveability and said it would be $1100 for a new passenger seat cushion.this is clearly a safety issue and should be repaired by suzuki.failure at 40,000 miles is not acceptable.
I was involved in a roll over accident.the right wheel of the car seized and none of the air bags deployed.i sustained some soft tissue injuries.
Radio changed out 2x after electrical problems, light for air bag has been on for 3 yrs. Brakes have had to get worked on 2x before it hit 50,000, clip on driverside mat broke after 2 months of having car, door panels on both front and back passanger side kept falling off and kept taking car back to fix till they had no replacement parts this car should not be on the road there are many safety issues blind spots because of the design, and all the little issues from 2 batteries replaced to 2 sets of brake jobs to electricals to 3 sets of tires, and the car only has 80,ooo miles or less. I've had it 9 yrs mostly as a second car and always problems including paint. But the safety issues and the crap car we were sold kept it cause nobody in there right mind wants it i am 1st yr owner this car sucks fffffff is what it should rate the car dealers wont fix it they make you come back again and again that the parts have to be found because the plant got washed away and the parts with it. And that company wont let them hold parts in there shops so hurry up and wait it is the trainshaf is cracked but hey its a second car that cost too much and gives too little just found this website thank to consumerreport magazine, this car was crap from day one when it rolled of the truck in 2008
I took my car to the mitsubishi dealer that is handling suzuki repairs for suzuki in response to the recall for the passenger seat sensor issue related to the airbag. The dash light for airbag error no longer appeared after that fix, but it returned within three months. The mitsubishi dealer said that i would have to pay to get it fixed.
Passenger side seat airbag safety switch failed. This disables all airbags in the vehicle when this happens. It is not a fail safe design. If this switch fails, air bags should remain enabled. Car is not safe to drive. You can replace this seat switch for $1,400 dollars.suzuki will not replace this switch even though it renders the vehicle unsafe to drive. Most customers do not realize they have no air bag protection. Suzuki is at great liability due to poor design. This needs to be a safety recall item. Many complaints are on file.
I own a 2008 suzuki sx4. A few times the passenger air bag warning light has turned on. The problem usually is solved by unlocking and refastening the passenger seat belt. More recently, (actually last week)the air bag warning light turned on and has stayed on ever since. This is not an intermittent problem like the passenger air bag warning. I have seen a lot of owners of these vehicles, (years 2007 to 2009)complaining in the net about this life-threatening problem . Most of them refer to theb1061 and /or b1312 codes and their vehicles are out of the warranty period already. This leads me to think that we are talking about a design or manufacturing flaw in these vehicles and should be properly addressed by a recall campaign by the manufacturer and/or its representatives in this country. I understand these codes and warning lights prevent the air bags from being deployed during an accident and the cost of replacing the seat with the sensor can run up to $2,000 per seat.
The airbag light is consistently on and when i took it to the dealer i was informed that it's the passenger seat that is causing the light to be activated. Why should i have to pay the dealer approximately $2000.00 to replace the passenger seat after the warranty ran out? suzuki should be held responsible if someone is hurt or possibly killed if there is an accident and the airbag isn't activated, because of a seat mat that they placed in the vehicle on the passenger side. It seems that other driver's of suzuki sx4 cars have the same problem.
The "passenger air bag light off" warning light came on while we were driving on a city street even thought a 170lb passenger was sitting in the passenger seat, wearing a seat belt.we were near the authorized suzuki dealer in milford, ct where we bought the car a few weeks earlier, so i stopped in and informed the sales manager.he said to show the service dept.there was no one in service that had time to see the light on so i brought it in for service appt.they said there was no code when they scanned the car.we don't know if this problem is related to the static in the am radio when the headlights or awd lock is turned on or when the gps or phone is plugged in but i am told this is not an electrical lemon.i rode in another sx4 and there was no static in the am radio.the next time the warning light came on, we took pictures and sent them to the finance rep.we also have a video of the light on and have since found complaints of this problem in the suzuki forum.perhaps its time for a recall before someone gets injured.
While driving, passenger air bag light started coming on while an adult passenger was in seat.after a couple of days, the passenger airbag light stayed on, so the airbag will not deploy.
2008 suzuki sx4 airbag system went out due to a sensor in the passenger seat. To replace the seat through the dealer would cost $2500.00. We have contacted suzuki with no luck. The car is covered by extended warranty, but when contacted we were told this problem was not covered. We wonder why this has not been recalled. We do not have the funds to replace the seat and will have to drive without airbags and the error lights will not go off until fixed.
The light for the airbags driver and passenger came on, then went off, 1 week later they came on and stayed on. They gave me all kinds of excuses, ex- "someone must have not been sitting on the seat properly!!!!!!!! we went around for almost a year. Then they said well the mileage is over!!!!!!!!!! then l threatened to contact you. They said suzuki authorized them to only charge me 50% of the fee. L find that strange especially after they told me all the other there was nothing they could do, now offer me 50% hmmm, that shows me there is a problem. L am including a copy of a report that there have been 31 complaints on the same thing.if we get in an accident the bags will not work. Putting our lives at risk. Can l sue them. They need to fix this before someone dies. One of the reports state a man went through(he is alive) his windshield because the bag did not deploy. Can you help.
The passenger air bag is no longer in service according to the symbol on the dash board.
Airbag light came on in dashboard area.indicator lights for pass airbag passenger seat and driver seat comes on and off intermittently.told this is a problem within this car type and will occur costs of between 1000-1600.00 for repair.this indicator means i have inadequate airbag protection and a failure within the seat sensor.this is a safety concern and needs a recall from suzuki.
I purchase this 2008 suzuki sedan x4 three years ago i have been having a lot ofproblems with this a lot of the parts on this car have been breaking off the air bag sensor light has been coming on have taken to suzuki several times they claim they fix it it would work okay for a little while and the light would come back on again three days later. I have a lot of problems with this car i am really fed up with this car makes no sense to me. I am scheduled to take this car for the third time to get the airbag fix hoping that they fix itright this time this coming fridayit makes no sense . I hope you"ll can help me out with this situation it has gotten worse not better at all.
When traction control kicks in, the rear end of the vehicle comes forward causing the vehicle to fishtail. I lost control on a straight road because i applied the brakes on a powdered snow covered road. I didn't slam the brakes, i lightly applied them.after going off the road, the car rolled in a violent spin. The nose hit the ground on the front right corner and blew the front right tire. The driver's side then slammed into a rock wall which buckled the roof ten inches and pushed the driver's side pillar post in about eight inches, and pushed the driver's door in almost to the steering wheel. The car spun then it hit the ground two more times and blew both of the driver's side tires. Not one of the eight airbags went off. My top speed that day was 40 mph. I was driving through the mountains and i went off the road and off an embankment and downhill i went.my main concern on that car is that the airbags did not go off. The driver's side window also shattered and i'm still pulling tiny glass slivers out of my left ear and much of it was pulled out of my scalp. I'm not sure if anything can be done about shatterproofing a side window, but if it can be done, it should be, especially when the side airbags aren't going off. The jack was stowed in the trunk in it's proper holding position and the holder broke during the impact and the jack was loose in the back seat of the car where my kids sit. I would feel better if it had a more secure holder or if it could be stowed better for times when the trunk is empty.
I have an issue with the air bag sensor under the passenger seat of my 2008 suzuki sx-4 crossover awd. The air bag light on the dash comes on and stays on, as well as the passenger seat belt light on the information display comes on and stays on. I took the vehicle to the dealership and they checked the code and found a code recorded for the airbag system. They could not determine what triggered the code however they said they reset the system and it should be fine. The same day the lights came back on so i took the vehicle back to the same dealer. This time they told me that the passenger side under seat assembly which contains the air bag sensor was bad and would need replaced at a cost of $2500 just for the part. I went on the internet and searched for similar problems and was surprised to find that there are many others with the same problem. The company has not agreed to do anything to alleviate the problem for me or the others that have had the same problem. I have also not been able to discern for sure whether the air bags will work as long as the vehicle has this problem. If not it is a definite safety problem and should require a recall to fix the problems or replace the defective parts. To be a . I have basically been told that since the vehicle is out of warranty that i am out of luck, however i feel that if this is a defect that they are aware of and have not done anything about that they should be held responsible, especially if the problem is potentially endangering the operators of these vehicles. The car was at the suzuki dealerbefore warranty expiration and i state that problem and they said that they can't duplicate de problem, after the warranty expired the problem is backand now all the airbags and seat beltslights are on all the time.
The contact owns a 2008 suzuki sx4. The contact stated that the air bag sensor illuminated intermittently. The contact mentioned that a passenger was seated in the passenger seat but the warning lamp still indicated that the air bag was off. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer. The technician explained that the parts were not available in order to do repairs for recall nhtsa campaign id number: 13v405000 (air bags) and was not able to provide a specific date when the parts would become available. The manufacturer was not able to be reached after numerous attempts. The vehicle failure and current mileage was 36,000.
The contact owns a 2008 suzuki sx4. The contact stated that nhtsa campaign id number: 13v405000(air bags) has surpassed a reasonable time for repair. The dealer was contacted and stated that the part was not available. Manufacturer was notified. The contact had not experienced a failure.
The airbag light first came on about two years ago on my commute from edwards afb, ca.i took the car into the suzuki dealership in riverside ca, for an inspection the airbags were reset, but the light did not go off.on a saturday in between may or june 2012, coming from the valero hand car wash the airbag light went off, then driving up mt view in barstow ca i hit bump in the road at 25 mph and the light was back on again and has not gone off since. I have the tires rotated at walmart in barstow and they have noted thetire pressure and airbag light is on as well as the last tune up in december 2011.the remedy is to leave the car for two day to run and reset the airbags.any help to replace the car and/or bags without the $1200 expense would be appreciated.thank you.
The contact owns a 2008 suzuki sx4. The contact was driving 65 mph when the passenger side air bag light and the tire pressure warning sensor illuminated. The contact also stated that the fuel level gauge failed to provide an accurate reading of the amount of fuel in the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer only to address the illumination of the tire pressure sensor. The manufacturer was not contacted and the vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 63,000 and the current mileage was 63,098.
Copied this from this site"the ecu also performs regular diagnostic checks of the air bag system. If the ecu identifies a problem, the air bag readiness (warning) light will illuminate on the instrument panel. When the air bag readiness light is illuminated, the air bag system might not perform properly in a crash."part of the required safety features required on most new vehicles is what was stated. Corrected the mileage from previous complaint.... My 2008 suzuki sx4 shows the air bag light on along with the passenger seat belt light on(even when occupied) according to the above statement"when the air bag readiness light is illuminated, the air bag system might not perform properly in a crash." so here i am.i followed up with a visit to suzuki dealer and $45 later they told me exactly what was stated on sites code b1312 andthat i need a new passenger seat cushion, that the sensor was not working.then they hit me with a cost of $1009.82 + tax to replace a cushion...mind you a part that is mandated to be on vehicle and working.this is obscene and i refused then they offered to cut it in half$600 +...why do i have to pay anything for a obvious defect in their system as indicated by other entries on here and other sites pertaining to the same problem.is everyone waiting for a major accident.also they could not tell me if all was disabled, part disabled or none were disabled.action is definitely needed by someone or some agency to step in and address this problem.
Airbag light has been on in the instrument cluster for four years.after recieved recall notification via mail (1 year ago).submitted request to fix passenger seat to the only suzuki dealership on ohau, hawaii and they stated, "my vehicle didn't fall under the recall" and that they needed to repair the entire airbag system.they couldn't pin point the problem and refused to contact suzuki technical representatives.as the second owner and active duty military, i cannot go back to the state in which i bought the vehicle due to military orders to have any other suzuki dealership fix this.additionally, with the saftey inspection laws in hawaii, i cannot register this car in this state unless pay for the entire replacement of the airbag system or wait till the dealership changes thier mind about doing the recall on my car.this situation i am in now is unsatisfactory and puts my family and my self at risk.
I was on a main road going south a man run a stop sign hit me on drivers side doormy neck was broken, and back permently messed up , my daughter on passenger side it jam her hip's, the side air bags did not come out only front ones did and the one on the steering wheel shatteredas it came out and the switch uner the steering wheel shorted out almost caught on fire, i have pictures this needs too be investigated i have tried and tried no one will listen i hope you do
Airbag light came on and took to the dealership.the diagnostic code is b1312 - occupancy mat performance due to open in ocm.basically there was a short in the airbag controller that is built into the passenger seat rendering all of the airbags non functional.cost for replacement was quoted at $1500 for the part plus $300-$500 labor.this appears to be a very common problem with suzuki if you look online yet there has been no recalls and it's not covered under warranty after 30,000 miles.so the repair cost could be up to $2000 for a part that is failing left and right on suzuki owners rendering the complete airbag system worthless so basically two options, either pay the $2000 or drive a car that could be deadly in a crash.i can't believe that suzuki corporation is ok with this?
Both the passenger seat belt light and air bag light came on and stayed on. I took the car to the local suzuki dealer to have it checked. They told me it was a defective airbag sensor built into the passenger seat and it had to be replaced at a cost of $1000+ for the airbags to work again. They also told me this was a common problem. We purchased a newer vehicle for safety features such as multiple airbags and now do not have that protection because of a very expensive repair. We also purchased an extended warranty and found that this safety item was not covered. I have read many other complaints in online forums and blogs concerning this safety issue with this same model. I feel this is a huge safety concern since none of the airbags now work because of the defective sensor. I hope suzuki doesn't wait until someone dies in an accident from the airbags not deploying because of this expensive and consistently defective part. I believe there should be a safety recall on this item.
I have a 2008 suzuki sx-4 crossover. The airbag light came on and stayed on, so i took the vehicle back to my dealer to have the problem diagnosed. The dealer told me that the passenger seat cushion sensor was defective and the warranty on that item ran out at 30,000 miles. The cost of replacement was going to be over $1,500.00. After researching this problem on line, and finding out that this is a very common problem with this particular vehicle, i just wonder if there isn't more than enough customer complaints to have a recall issued forthis problem, especially when it has happened more than once for some owners.
Brought vehicle to suzuki dealer to have a check done as to why seat belt and airbag lights were staying on.they reported a code and said they would have to replace the passenger seat cushion at a cost of $1069.00!i could not believe what happened next the service manager informed me that there was a recall and were replacing screws in the outside mirrors to prevent falling off....but the seat cushion was not listed as a recall even though there have been other complaints.since when are mirrors more important then airbags that are mandated in vehicles.why hasn't suzuki stepped up and declared a recall and also why hasn't the nhtsa demanded that they recall these vehicles.so screws for mirrors are more important than airbags...what is this world coming to.
The sensor light for the passenger air bag went on and wont resetthe mechanic checked via diagnostic computer the light and said its a faulty sensor but changing it would require $1,500 passenger seat replacement because the unit is integralmeanwhile the passenger seat belt light is on regardless if belt is engaged and i don't know the implications to the air bag functionality.
Suzuki hasrecall for a defective passenger seat cushion that when the fault is present the passenger nor the drivers air bags will deploy in an accident.the part has been ordered but will not come in for three weeks.the dealership in pensacola florida has said they will not give a loaner vehicle for this issue even thought the safety issue has been identified and neither the passenger or drivers air bag will deploy in an accident. Knowing this is a very important safety issue i fail to understand why they won't give a loaner vehicle until this problem has been corrected.in the event of an accident and the air bags don't deploy i can see a justification for a lawsuit because of this safety issue in the vehicle. I had even contacted a lady by the name of [xxx] at the suzuki customer service number of 1-800-934-0934 and in the recall letter that was sent out does not allow for a loaner vehicle unless the issue falls under the 36 month warranty period.if this is a known recall it should not matter if it is under the warranty period or not since this is a vehicle safety issue and a loaner vehicle should be available to all customers.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
No incident. Need help where to take vehicle for safety recall (passenger seat cushion) and i do not know where to call to.no dealer nearby -live on an island in alaska. Please contact me by email. Will need at least a week off work and more than $1,000.00 to get to dealer and back. Will have to put car and myself on a ferry- 3 days one way.what is possibility of sending new parts with instructions to a mechanic here to do the work on behalf of suzuki - the one where i usually i take my car for check ups?
My wife and i purchased this car used and as-is from a dealer. We had it just 3 days when i noticed the airbag malfunction light is on. Now i'm concerned that the air bags aren't functioning. This is a recurrent problem, and i'm sure many have gone unreported. Just on this site alone, airbag problems are a large percentage of the complaints made. When i count the problems and eliminate the duplicates, there are 44 actual problems listed. 33 of those problems are airbag problems, and 3 were accidents in which air bags didn't deploy. That means that 36/44 problems - 82% - involve airbags in some way. How many more have to be posted before this gets investigated and a recall forced or issued??? counting this complaint, it's 37/45 with airbag problems.
The contact owns a 2008 suzuki sx4. The contact that nhtsa campaign number: 13v405000(air bags) had surpassed a reasonable amount of time for repair. The dealer stated the part was not available and the manufacture was made aware of the issue. The contact stated that the air bag warning light was illuminated. The failure mileage was unavailable.
There was no incident. The passenger seat belt light and the air bag light comes on and stays on. Initially, it blinked on and then off. Now they stay on constantly, looking at your site we see where several other people have had this problem. We feel this is a recall issue.
I was involved in a car crash another car t=bone me on driver's side the air bag on steering wheel and passenger side did come out but they shredded and had some kind of shortage from under them that smokedlike they were fixingto get on fire, also the airbag overthe driver side door did not come out, we were injured from the crash i was seriously injured from the impact but scares me that the car could of caught on fire from the shortage some one needs too check on the make and models of these car before someone elsehas a wreck and gets seriously injured.
Rear window wiper failure, does not work. Passenger air bag none functioning, light comes on dash indicating passenger air bag is off! remote trunk entry failure, remote latch is not functioning and there is no key entry lock.
Air bag warning light stayed on, and would not go off. Dealer found the cause to be " sc-60 open circuit b1312 ". Had to drive the car without working air bags until dealer could work on the car. Dealer replaced passenger side seat cushion assembly (no charge). Since the drivers side seat cushion was not replaced it might eventually fail just like the passengers side. Please have suzuki recall these cars and replace all the front seat cushions, not just the ones that fail.
I have an 2008 suzuki sx4 that runs great, however, at around 67,000 miles the airbag and seatbelt light came on. I paid $2000 for an extended warranty and this is not covered, even though it has to deal with the "computer" of the car-- which is covered. They say you need a new seat cover that costs you between $1000-$2000. It is ridiculous to pay $2000 for a warranty and that it is not covered since a seat cover will fix the problem even though it is listed under a "computer program" problem. I am concerned why this is not listened under a recall since it is a major defect in suzuki sx4s. It is also a major safety hazard because the airbag will not deploy if i was to get into a wreck.
This was the 2nd pretty major crash my car was in. Airbags did not deploy in either accident. Now my airbag light and seat belt light are on. From what i understand from online complaints this means my airbags don't work. I got this car brand new in 2008 loved the car till this issue. This needs to be a recall no reason people should have to drive a unsafe vehicle. I am very unhappy with suzuki was lucky to not hurt.
2008 suzuki sx4 crossover airbag light. Light intermittently turns on and off. Suzuki could not find a problem until the light stayed on. Problem started with 8,000 miles on car, and finally failed at 101,000 miles but suzuki says its unrelated even though its the same light. Refuses to fix problem as warranty issue. Many other reports of defective seat sensors rumored second version of part fixes problem, no recall?
The contact owns a 2008 suzuki sx4. The contact noticed that the air bag warning light illuminated. The dealer advised the contact that there were no related recalls and that she needed to have it repaired because it would not deploy in the event of a crash.the manufacturer advised the contact to take the vehicle to a local dealer for diagnostic testing. No repairs were performed due to the repair cost.the current and failure mileage was 65,000.updated 05/03/11*ljupdated 05/16/11
The contact owns a 2008 suzuki sx4. The contact stated that while driving approximately 45 mph and attempting a turn, he lost control of the steering wheel. The vehicle crashed into an embankment and flipped over onto the driver's side. The air bags failed to deploy. The police reported to the scene and a report was filed. The contact was not injured. The vehicle was destroyed. The vin was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 81,000. Updated 3/13/13
2008 suzuki sx4 crossover driver airbag light and passenger seatbelt light are on constantly. Contacted suzuki customer service, took vehicle to authorized suzuki dealership. Diagnosed problem, will cost over 2200 to make vehicle safe to operate. Service man informed us none of the airbags will function until 2200$ repairs are made. Car is not under warranty. If i choose to have the passenger seat cushion replaced this will make the third seat cushion as it has been replaced another time already under warranty. Suzuki customer service told me since car is out of warranty i have to pay. They told me to have service manager contact their technical rep and open a case and maybe they might help me in some unspecified way. Suzuki dealership would not give us a loaner car and suzuki customer service would not authorize loaner vehicle. We have to drive this little deathtrap without any airbags. If you go online and type in suzuki sx4 airbag light on you see this is a widespread problem. We can`t afford to pay for another airbag sensor that will only last a short time and then leave us vulnerable and unprotected. Please help us and others like us who don`t have the money to pay for suzuki`s poor quality and defective safety equipment. Thank you.
I was a passenger in a suzuki sx4 2008.where we slid off the road a hit a log pile.no air bags opened.i broke my femur, neck, jaw, and ribs.car was totaled and we at least hit the wood at 45 mph.
I own a 2008 suzuki sx-4 crossover. The airbag light came on and stayed on, so i took the vehicle to my suzuki dealer to have the problem diagnosed. The dealer told me that the passenger seat cushion sensor was defective and the defect was no longer under warranty. The cost of replacement was estimated to be $1,125 for a new seat cushion and $250 for labor. The dealer did not know if this would affect the air bag in an accident. Due to the cost, i could not have the seat cushion replaced and the airbag light remains on. This seems to be a common problem with the sx-4. There is noway that the seat was damaged in normal use and is obviously a manufacturing defect.it seems that this is a serious safety problem and the car should be recalled for repair.
Passenger side air bag sensor indicates the module needs replaced.cost to repair in the $1000's. Contacted suzuki's customer service to utilize customer assistant program, they offered no help in paying for huge expense.it is my understanding that there are others suzuki customers experiencing the same problem with the same result.my complaint is: t suzuki is rated high in safety ratings and i wonder why the component is not covered by warranty, and how in good faith can they claim #1 safety ratings, when in fact if i were in an accident the passenger side air bags may or may not deploy?is this legal?i want this problem documented so that myself and others my benefit from the information.
The contact owns a 2008 suzuki sx4. The contact stated that after engine startup, the air bag warning light illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 67,000 and the current mileage was 67,123.
Air bags did not deploy and 30-40 miles per hour in wreck, carwas totaled by insurance company, 2008 suzuki sx-4, 28000 miles on car.
The contact owns a 2008 suzuki sx4. While the vehicle was parked the contact noticed the air bag light was illuminated on the instrument panel. The contact stated the air bag light stayed on constantly. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The technicians stated the seat cushion was bent or broken which needed to be replaced due to the grid underneath the seat, which was connected to the air bag sensor. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 39,000.
Air bag warning light on my 2008 suzuki sx4 came on for no apparent reason. Vehicle has less than 35,000 miles. Dealer states it is a sensor problem and can be repaired for $1,200.00. Internet research has revealed this problem as a common problem for this model suzuki. One mechanic at dealership stated not to worry airbags would still deploy in the event of an accident . Another mechanic disputed this statement and said they would not.as stated earlier i have seen numerous complaints of this same problem on many different websites.
Shortly after i purchased my car i told the dealer that the passenger airbag indicator light was saying it was off occasionally, even when people were sitting in it.they told me the person must be "sitting in the seat wrong."i asked them about it again a week ago and they said "they must be sitting in the seat wrong."i said it didn't matter how the person is sitting, it still comes on.then they told me it depends on the weight of the person sitting in the passenger seat.i said it was happening with someone 150 pounds and 250 pounds.then they told me it was a "design flaw with the car" and they couldn't do anything about it.
The passenger air bag sensor light would come on with a passenger in the seat while driving down the road. It would stay on for a few minutes and eventually go off. This went on for a few months and was initially blamed on the position of the passenger in the seat as wiggling would cause the light to go off. Approximately three months ago the light came in and stayed on, along with the driver's air bag light. My daughter took the car to the local dealer who advised it would cost $2000 to repair because the car was out of warranty due to the mileage. When my boyfriend returned to the service department after researching the problem to inquire about a good will repair we were advised by the service manager two things: first that he was not aware that was a common problem and second that he does them all the time for local dealers because owners usually trade them in rather than pay for the repairs and the dealer is unable to sell them without fixing them. He refused to fix the problem, re-stating what he told my daughter, that it would cost $2,000 to fix. It seemed to us that he contradicted himself, either it is a common problem with many of the dealers bringing in used vehicles to have the sensor fixed for $2,000 or it isn't. I would like to know how to get suzuki to approve a good will repair for this problem that is more than 75% of the reported issues for this model car for 2008.
The contact owns a 2008 suzuki sx4. The vehicle was inspected by a dealer who informed the contact that the air bag sensor needed to be replaced or the air bag would not deploy. The vehicle was not been repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 28,000. The vin was unavailable.
Sx4air bagsrecall number: 13v405000recall date: 09/06/2013problem summary:suzuki motor of america, inc. (suzuki) is recalling certain model year 2006-2011 grand vitara and 2007-2011 sx4 vehicles. In the affected vehicles, over time, the ocs sensor mat installed in the front passenger seat may fail due to repeated flexing of the mat from use of the seat. As a result, during a crash necessitating deployment, the air bag will deploy regardless of whether the front seat occupant is an adult or a child.consequence:air bag deployment with a child in the front passenger side seat increases the risk of injury to that child.corrective action:suzuki will notify owners and dealers will replace the front passenger seat cushion assembly (which includes the ocs sensor mat) free of charge. Sufficient quantities of parts are not currently available to fix all of the affected vehicles. Owners will be notified of the recall in october 2013 and will receive a second notification when parts are available to have their vehicle repaired. Owners may contact suzuki at 1-800-934-0934. Suzuki's recall campaign number is vd.
2008 suzuki sx4.consumer writes in regards toelectrical system problems in vehicle. The consumer stated a recall was issued. The consumer also stated the dealer deceived many of their customers by not disclosing problems and not selling extended warranties.
The contact owns a 2008 sx4 crossover.the windshield wipers and the rear view mirror vibrate when driving. The windshield wipers were replaced, but the failure resurfaced. Also the front tires and the driver-side brakes have prematurely failed .the dealer cannot identify the cause of the failure. The current mileage was 31,000. The failure mileage was 3,000.
2008 suzuki sx4. Consumer writes in regards to an electrical problem. *tgwthe consumer stated he was pulled over by a police office, for inoperative taillights. After an inspection, the police officer discovered the brake lights were not working as well, the only light working was the turn signal lights and the reverse lights. Some fuses were blown and replaced. The next day, a motorist informed the consumer, the taillights were not working. Again, the fuse had blown. While leaving work the next day,the consumer smelled smoke. He looked at the hood, then looked inside the car and he finally looked in the rear view mirror where smoke was coming from the trunk of the vehicle.he was able to pull over and shut the vehicle off. The consumer inspected the trunk, and there was a smell of electrical wiring coming from the drivers side taillight, which had caught on fire and welded themselves together. The consumer replaced the wiring. However, the vehicle was taken to the dealer, because the burned wires were traced back to the drivers seat. The dealer stated the harness in the trunk had caught fire and damaged two other harnesses.
The car doesn't start when i turn the key, if its too hot out or cold out. It takes 30 minutes of turning the key over before the car will start. I have brought it into the dealership 4 or 5 times now, and they put a downward tail pipe on it, but still hasn't fixed the problem.
Rear window wiper failure, does not work. Passenger air bag none functioning, light comes on dash indicating passenger air bag is off! remote trunk entry failure, remote latch is not functioning and there is no key entry lock.

After taking my sx4 into kipo motors for inspection and check for rich fuel and ticking, it passed ny emissions but i was told i needed a $2000 catalytic converter and not to worry about the slight tick. With in 6 months my engine blew up well driving to dinner with my family in the car. Flames shot out of the hood and other drivers reported flames pouring out the bottom of the car after it exploded.kipo/suzuki replaced the engine, after assembly two cylinders didn't work. Kipo never heckled any other parts and had to rebuild it again after they found the valves broke causing the engine to explode. Now the car has no power and at 2084 miles on the new engine they say the catalytic converter is stopping the engine from working and due to the closeness of the warranty end they are not going to fix it. The engine exploded in the front. There was a hole the size of my fist in the block behind the catalytic converter. Chunks of the engine block were in the exhaust manifold as well but they say none of this is a result of the engine exploding. I have seen others with the same rich fuel and engine tick and wounded are these ticking time bombs?
Car cranks but won't start on an intermittent basis.
Engine started ticking while driving.after approximately 20 miles, the engine quit completely and never restarted.after dealer inspected the car, it was found to have a failed rod bearing.after further investigation, the failure was based on a lack of lubrication, and therefore the warranty claim was denied.after an arbitrator reviewed the case, it was found to be covered under the powertrain warranty, sitting that the engine was using an unreasonable amount of engine oil between changes, and was therefore starving the bearings of oil during operation.the engine should not be using any oil, and an investigation should be done on these engines to see if there are other people out there having engine bearing issues or failures even if they have the oil changed per the owner's manual.
My cd player stop working, and my radio have static in it.
The contact owns a 2008 suzuki sx4. The contact stated after making 5 to 15 degree turns with either turn signal activated, the signal would not cancel soon enough or after completing a shallow turn. This is not a developed malfunction, but, one inherent on the vehicle from the manufacture automatically which required the turn signal switch to manually be engaged to deactivate the operation. The vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired. The contact planned to notify the manufacturer. The approximate failure mileage was unknown. Updated 10/13/2011 *ln

Multiple times the vehicle has been hard to start. It cranks for a while but does not start on the first try. On the second it cranks for a while and just barely starts. One time it started on the third try. It seems like the fuel pump is not priming the lines in time.

I purchased my suzuki sx4 in april 2008, from a dealer here in plattsburgh ny, the car seemed to be well made for the price, and the car had a decent safety rating, had good gas mileage and was awd. Seemed like everything we needed in a car.the dealer sold a good story.i wish i would have done some research on suzuki before i made this purchase. After completing the paper work i drove the car home with a smile, this was the first brand new car i have ever owned and was looking forward to driving it.i parked the car that night with 30 miles on it.the next morning i woke up to find my mirrors had shorted and caused them to split.i called the dealer first thing in the morning and they said to drop it off and they would fix it no problem.the car drove well for all of 2008 and 2009 but then in 2010 when i went to get the car inspected i was informed that the wheel barring in the driver side rear needed to be replaced and because the wheel barring had went it caused one tire to wear more than the other, so my tires would need to be replaced.i ended up paying for 2 rear tires and they fixed the wheel baring.the bearing had to be order so i was out a car for 2 days.then not 2 weeks later we start to hear a really wired noise coming from the front end of the car, so i bring it back in and it turns out that the cv joint had fallen apart. So that needed to be replaced.then about 6 months latter i start hearing a really wired clanking noise in the center of the car so i bring in back in and it turns out that the whole drive shaft needed to be replaced.things seemed to be going good until i just recently had to get the car inspected again? guess what it needs a new wheel bearing and a tie rod.they will replace the wheel bearing at no cost but they want 300.00 to replace the tie rod.
The contact owns a 2008 suzuki sx4. The contact stated that whenever the gear lever was shifted from park and into reverse, the vehicle would vibrate abnormally. The failure recurred continuously. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnosis, who stated that the motor mount would need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 85,000.
At a cold start there was a loud clicking noise i was told by two master mechanics to see if i still had a warranty because they said it was the timing chain and tensioners so i took it to the suzuki dealer (brown daub)which told me that was normal i called the garage i usually go to and they think it is the timing chain and tensioners they will be letting me know this week what the problem is plus suzuki washed their hands of it plus the noise is only getting louder.
While driving, passenger air bag light started coming on while an adult passenger was in seat.after a couple of days, the passenger airbag light stayed on, so the airbag will not deploy.
The contact owns a 2008 suzuki sx4.the contact stated that when a passenger sat in the front passenger seat the air bag indicator light illuminated on the dashboard which means the air bag would not deploy in the event of a crash. The seat belt indicator light also illuminated on the dashboard.both lights continued to illuminate and the vehicle was eventually taken to an authorized dealer, where the indicator lights were reset.the failure recurred moments after the lights were reset and the vehicle was taken back to an authorized dealer.the contact was informed the passenger seat bottom needed to be replaced.the vehicle was not serviced.the failure mileage was 50,000 and the current mileage was 66,000..

The contact owns a 2008 suzuki sx4. While driving various speeds, the front passenger side air bag and the seat belt warning indicators illuminated intermittently. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who stated that the front passenger side seat belt needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 12,000.
We purchased a 2008 suzuki sx 4 this past summer, i love my car and this is my first new vehicle. However, my complaint is: when i open the door, rain water hits the upholstery andit leaves spots, which this is very disheartening and displeasing to the eyes. I feel that we have given a lot of money for this vehicle and also trying to conserve gasoline. The only way to get rid of the spots is to shampoo the material. Which i have had to purchase a shampooer.and then when it rains again you are in the same boat of having to clean it ! the dealer has put the scotch guard on this vehicle twice, they (suzuki dealer) said this is all they can do. They suggested i fill a complaint. They said eventually there will be a recall. What do you suggest? thank you for taking the time to read my complaint. I hope soon and very soon you will fix this problem.
I have a yellow light and and red airbag light on i already toke to the dealer and it's still the same and now the engine started knocking and the dealer in our area move nowhere to be found what can i do or where can i take it to get check

The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the contact was informed that the front passenger seat needed to be replaced. And that company wont let them hold parts in there shops so hurry up and wait it is the trainshaf is cracked but hey its a second car that cost too much and gives too little just found this website thank to consumerreport magazine, this car was crap from day one when it rolled of the truck in 2008
The contact owns a 2008 sx4 crossover.the windshield wipers and the rear view mirror vibrate when driving. The windshield wipers were replaced, but the failure resurfaced. Also the front tires and the driver-side brakes have prematurely failed .the dealer cannot identify the cause of the failure. The current mileage was 31,000. The failure mileage was 3,000.

I have had this sx4 since 3/1/11, aside from this particular problem, i have no other issues with the vehicle. Last spring, around may, i had the front lower control arms replaced. Only having this car for 2 years at the time, and here i am needing them replaced again. I have never had this problem with any prior vehicle. I love this car, i don't want to trade it in. I would feel guilty trading it in, and putting another family in this car, should something go terribly wrong. My husband and i debated what the culprit could be for the noises the car made from 15 mph to 70 mph (rock in a box) sound and the car shaking throughout the car, but also in the steering wheel. I didn't want to accept that the problem was the control arm again. So we replaced the stabilizer bar bushings. The mechanic that replaced the bushings said replacing the bushings were not going to solve the entire problem because the ball joints were done, they needed replaced. I also have been told by another mechanic rotating my tires, have said the same thing. Replacing the stabilizer bushings help the ( rock in a box) sound, but not the shakiness throughout the car and it sounds like the car is falling apart the way it rattles on the smoothest street here. Does this problem fall under any type of warranty or a recall introduction?

Thank you.
Trying to get vehicle inspected and the inspection guy informed that there is a probably leak in the exhaust system causing loud noise. The noise could be heard in the car even when not hit heavy on the gas pedal. Although the vehicle is reasonable old, for 50k miles such breakage is exhaust is not expected. This could be a result of faulty equipment or misfitting. Basically i need to get it fixed before it can pass state inspection.

Rear window wiper failure, does not work. Passenger air bag none functioning, light comes on dash indicating passenger air bag is off! remote trunk entry failure, remote latch is not functioning and there is no key entry lock.
I had the suzuki sx4 sedan for 5 months and the windshield washer appeared to quit working - would not spray - however after getting out of the vehicle, there was a pool of windshield washer fluid flowing down the driveway. I took it to dealer and they stated that there is a plastic connector that was broken.they replaced it with a brass fitting and all is well.
