While driving 50 mph vehicle accelerated to a high rate, causing it to roll over. Dealershipnotified, but did not resolve the problem. When vehicle hit snow, airbags failed to deploy.also, when incident occurred, consumer was driving home from having recall repair made on accelerator cable.*la

Broad sided another vehicle at about 35 mph and neither airbags didn't deploy.dt

While driving approximately 40 mph consumer lost control of vehicle. It thenskiddedand flipped over, hitting the front first.upon impact, air bags did not deploy.

Dt*:the contact stated the airbag light is constantly illuminated.the dealership has replaced the airbag system module twice, but the problem returned.the windshield wipers were inoperative. Updated 06/19/06.

Airbag - when it's below 40 degrees outside the airbag light stays on. Windshield -makes a howling noise when speed exceeds 80 mph.passenger seatbelt - will not release when someone is sitting in the seat. Air condition - you have to constantlypress the a/c switch and it will eventually activate. Air conditioner - the fresh air/recirculation lever does not stay on recirculate, it moves by itself back to fresh air. Front axle - the 4wd always pops back into 2wd all by itself. The axle leaks constanly.it's been replaced twice within 10000 miles.

1999 suzuki grand vartara air bags failed to deploy after vehicle hitting a @36'' tree.the vehicle was traveling on a secondary road, posted speed 45mph, due to icey, and snowey conditions , driver traveled at @ 30 mph. Cresting a hill the vehicle hit a snow covered ice patch., on the down hill side the vehicle moved right the left before my daughter ( the driver) could react the vehicle veered into the tree. My daughter hit her head and face on the steering wheel and my wife hit something that could not be readaly identified and recieved a gash in the middle of her forehead , a concusion, and her leg was jammed unde the dashboard. The leg was not broken but she does need to wear a keg immobilizer for a few days. Most of the damage was to the left front of the vehicle and towards the center. With the size of the tree and the amount of left front damage one would expect to have the drivers side airbag deploy at the very least. While none of these injuries are life threatning, i have great concern , because our family has 3 1999 grand vartarsi drive one , my wife drives one and her sister drives one. This may all change very soon., depending on what we do or do not find out about this situation. I see on you site there have been several reports of grand vartar owners reporting airbag problems. How many will it take before someonre thakes this problem serious.

Vehicle tie rod broke.*mrthe failure caused the consumer to lose control of the vehicle and consequently struck a concrete divider wall and the air bags fail to deploy. *ph (per alberto jimenez this document is considered a mailed in voq)

Wife has had three major crashes with two grand vitaras. During none of the incidents did the driver's side or passenger's side air bags deploy. First incident was in december of 98. That vehicle was totalled.second incident was in april of 99, and the third incident was in september of 99 .second vehicle was repaired, and is back on the road.*ml

Consumer was traveling 35mph oninterstate and there was snow on ground.another vehicle veered intoconsumer's vehicle becauseother vehicle had lost control.driver applied brakes and turnedwheel toleft.to avoid hitting other vehicle, driver hydroplaned, and vehicle hitmeridian strip hard. Consumer stated the vehicle battery caught fire which caused the engine to catch on fire as well.*mj

The key sticks in the ignition and fails to turn. When this occurs it makes it difficult to start the vehicle.then, when the vehicle finally starts and is turned off the keys will not release.manufacturer is aware of this issue, and has issued a repair kit for this problem.the kit is $45.00 plus labor.

The wires at the back of the cigarette lighter melted. Whenthe consumersbrake assist was plugged into the cigarettelighter itburned up, because the wire was too thin and was unable to carry that type of load. Luckily the fuse did not blow out.*nlm

The engine would not turn over, could not be jump started, and was towed to the dealership.the diagnosis was a dead cell battery at ~48,000 miles.two weeks later the engine would not turn over, but eventually did after a jump start.the following two weeks, when the key was turned to try and start the engine, all that happened was a clicking noise.jump starting was ineffective.it was towed again to the dealership.the diagnosis is engine siezure.the vehicle is four years old, with ~48,000 miles, and perfect service records.the dealer recommends replacing the entire engine in order for the vehicle to run again.

Consumer statesengine make rattling noise. Dealer has inspected vehicle several times, and problem still recurring.

Rear main seal on engine begins to leak, dripping oil onto chassis crossmembers and exhaust pipes, leaving an oil burning smell.research has shown most owners encounter this problem with the 1999 grand vitara, and that suzuki has redesigned the rear main seal appropriately, in effect admitting that the original seal is defective.

Vehicle suddenly and unexpectedly loses complete engine power at highway speeds and vehicle speed rapidly drops to under 10 mph.engine runs very rough and there is no response when depressing accelerator pedal.must immediately pull over (if possible) as vehicle is not drivable.after waiting several minutes, engine operation returns to normal but power loss will usually reoccur anytime as quickly as within the next several minutes or as long as a day or two.engine power loss may last as little as a minute or two or for several minutes and check engine light comes on.

Vehicle when purchased from dealership-had a loud sound-we assumed that this was normal-the sales person attached a $1500 warranty on the vehicle as if it was a part of the deal-this vehicle was selected by the sales person we never saw the vehicle before the sale or one like it-we went along with the deal only because we needed a vehicle for our family-an theywere willing to have it financed-and our credit was not terrific-now we know why they attached the warranty because of the bad engine-the vehical was so small for our family that we went to try to trade it in for a family van at a different dealership-the sales man told us that the vehicle should not be sounding this loud-he said that you should not hear the sound of the engine-thats when we took it back to the dealership-at first they said it would only take 2days for repairs-but now they are saying at least one week and that the whole engine must be taken apart-an that they were having problems with the timing chain-since they did not offer us a loaner we have to transportation-we thought that if you purchased a vehicle from a place like the ford dealership -who is well known! we wouldn't have to worry about being frauded but we guess we were wrong -the purchase of this vehicle has been a nightmare to our family-please notify us about what can be done-we can't afford to pay for a lemon from the ford dealership. No safety defect listed.

Vehicle was towed to the dealer for inspection, andmechanic determined that thetiming chain needed tobe replaced.

The vehicle was taken to the dealer at 30,000 miles because of a "clicking noise" coming from the engine.the dealer stated there was no problem with the engine.the vehicle was then taken to an independent mechanic who found a problem with the tension on the timing chain.the part was on back order.*nlm

While driving the vehicle started making a rattling noise.upon inspection of the vehicle by the dealership they indicated that the noise was due to the tensioner going bad. The hub bearing and senor also went bad and needed to be replaced at 40,000 miles. Please provide any additional information.

Difficulty when braking on wet payment.truck makes loud grinding sound as if the engine is going to fall out, plus you can feel the vibration while foot is on the pedal.starting to occur frequently, mostly noticeable when driving downhill.truck seems to be drifting more after you press on the brakes to stop which cause me to feel like i'm at risk of crashing into the back of another vehicle or injury myself and/or passengers (especially my two toddles).very interested to know if the first year model of this new type of truck is considered to be a recall.considering that i experience this incident mostly when it rains or during slippery pavement, i haven't been able to schedule an appointment at the dealership.however, i have called the dealership to inquire and i was informed that there are not reports or history of this type of complaint.i truly find that hard to believe.can you please investigate and notify me of any findings, possibly by may 2001 or sooner.i'm hoping to trade it in on my second anniversary date.thanks in advance for your assistance.

Consumer applied brakes to slow down at 25-30 mph, not a panic stop, brake locked up ,and vehicle spun around 180 degrees. Vehicle hit the curb. Dealer replacedhub assembly/ knuckle joints/ front assembly, and front stabilizer. Damage was $ 3000-4000.

I first reported this problem last year. Something was causing intermittent severe vibration at highway speeds. I was traveling down the highway going 60mph at approx. 12:30am when this occured again and i attempted to pull over to the side of the highway when my foot was dislodged from the brake by vibration. The force being applied to the brake was transfered to the accelerator which resulted in a loss of control of the vehicle. I slammed into a solid rock ledge and received injuries to my back and neck. Both ofthe air bags failed to deploy, the officers on the scene commented that they should have. This vehicle has been to the dealer three times for the vibration problem with no results. Their answer has been to balance the tires over and over, although they did supposedly replace the body bushings. Still no results. Now i have a wrecked vehicle and a messed up back to show for my $20,000 dollar investment.

Brakes would be making grinding/squealing & clicking noises when applied. Was informed by mechanic atdealership thatbrakes were dirty and needed to be replaced/cleaned. Also, they were non-abestos. Nothing else was done tobrakes.

I was proceeding slowly, in 4 wheel drive, on a straight stretch of road.it was snowing lightly.i felt a slight "thump" under the car, as if i'd run over a small stick or something similar.the car suddenly veered to the right, struck a snowbank, and then spun around, coming to rest with the left front against the guardrail.the steering knuckle had fractured.the factory replacement part has been significantly redesigned, and has been reinforced at the exact spot that snapped.is there a history of problems with this part?
