Transmission malfunctioned.the problems ranges from bad ecu's that screw up when it is cold to horrible torque converters that slip during shifting or accelerating.

Consumer got in the car the alarm was off try to start car the alarm came on and lock consumer in the car, dealer had aready replaced the alarm kill the battery . Upon purchase of car 1-2 weeks prior, it was noticed that the transmission would not shift into 4th gear, and was slipping at initial acceleration from a stop until around 1500 rpm, causing wheelspin under certain conditions.on this date, transmission suddenly failed to be able to shift into 3rd gear, limiting top speed to levels below safe limits on most highways.this occurred while driving on a highway, and was potentially dangerous.towed to dealer, dealer recommends remanufactured transmission, asking approximately $4000 for parts and labor.i didn't (and still don't) have the money for that, so i managed to limp home with it where it has sat since.at some point since then it has lost the ability to shift into 2nd gear.dealer also found possible wheel bearing and front rotor problems, in addition to failure of front catalytic converters.wants roughly $6000 to fully repair vehicle.*nlm

Air conditioner repaired, cost $800.also,replaced right and left rear wheel bearings, cost $500.

Left rear wheel bearing completely defective - have had replaced.when first starting the car, the transmission will not operate until the car has warmed up at least 5 minutes.engine sometimes dies when car is put into reverse gear.gears change with a jolt and car jerks when transmission downshifts.trunk latch is inoperative from driver's side control.brakes "catch and release" when applied.

My problems started when i noticed my speedometer fluctuating last summer. It would waver about 20mph up and down at every speed. Soon after, it stated getting even worse. I also noticed that ever so often, my transmission gear seemed to rapidly jump back and forth (between the current gear and the next lowest(?)) between 20000-2200 rpm on the tachometer. I took my car to a subaru dealership (mac haik subaru, i-10 & kirkwood, houston, texas (713) 497-6600) and was told that my speedometer, which is electronic, was a control unit wich fits into the top of the transmission. The transmission was going bad, and was burning out the control unit. When asked if the rememdy would be to buy a new ($200) control unit, i was told that it would soon be burned out by the transmission, also. The solution would be to replace the entire transmission, since it was at fault. I have subsequently read reports concerning subaru's 1992 transmissions in my car being improperly geared, and that subsequent years had different workings that cured this problem.

The contact owns a 1992 subaru svx. The contact was driving approximately 40 mph when the transmission seized without warning. The vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer, who advised that the transmission would need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the defect. The approximate failure mileage was 151,000.

Transmission failed with 64000 mi. Trans shop "rebuilt" it and added a trans cooler for 2200$ as soon as i fist drove it i noticed the car "binding up" during turns at slow speed. Shop owner said he couldn't replicate or feel anything wrong, with me in the car and it was clearly binding during slow turns, he refused to acknowledge any problem. Also there is a noise, like a bolt inside the torque converter that i hear when i am off the throttle. Also have replaced both rear wheel bearings. Cabin trunk release has failed and all of the hood/trunk struts have failed.

The transmissoin problem is a real problem i thinkthree too many in 60 thousand miles. The third time they will only give me 2 years warrantee .instead of the full 60 thousand miles or 5 yearsfor a new trany i feel this is very unfair for i feel this is a lemon. Sun roof dosen't always work, an d power window switches don't all work. Also, alarm goes off while i'm driving, and they can't find the problems.i am very upset.

Transmission slips between 2nd and 3rd gear.

Rear wheel bearing/transmissionfailed.

Transmission went out, had been having problems shifting. Please add vin and additional information.

I have had the transmission on my svx repaired three times. The first shop was aamco, which repaired the transmission and replaced parts.the cost was $2700. The car had to go back to the aamco shop three times, totalling over 2 months of repair work. 12 months later, the transmission failed again. I took the car to an authorised subaru dealer for repair. They replaced the transmission($2700). I advised of my known problems, and the known issues on the internet. Less than a week later the transmission started to slip. I reported this to subaru.

Wheel bearings have been replaced numerous times, and dealer said it was normal wear.also, same has happened with transmission.

Dear nhtsa, please look into the cases involving rear wheel bearing failures because under this search in your complaint file i saw many. The numbers may not be overwhelming but that is because subaru only produced around 20000 of these vehicles. I am also having problems with my transmission and surging which i see as a safety hazard and could cause and accident. If you want more info and data you can check out www.kineticconcepts.com which is taking a survey on car owners and their problems. I find it hard to dismiss the percentage of 136 people resonding 41% had to at least repair one wheel bearing and also 40% had to replace a transmission. So please look into these problems that subaru has had with their svx with concern for the consumer and for their safety.

I don't know how many times the transmission has been worked on. Mechanic said there were signs of previous work, some of it botched up.

Transmission would make clunking noises whenever it is shifting into overdrive. Taking vehicle to dealer to check.

Automatic transmission failure: contacted subaru about 1 year prior about problem and was told the slipage was normal. Now the transmission is permanently slipping and does not drive in any direction. Is 36000 miles normal for a replacement transmission?......along with the rest of the svx owners.

Transmission failure.also, wheel bearings failed.

This car has had to many problems subaru should have to repaired or recalled the transmisson and rear bearings i have replaced the wheel bearings 3 times and i have had the car not even a year when i contacted subaru they said they would give me $500 towards a new subaru. That doesnt make up for the $7000 i owe on the car though. And the cost to have a transmisson put in is around$3900 to $4500 this is a problem with every subaru svx some of them have gone through 2 to 3 transmissons in only 20 to 30 thousand miles. Something needs to be done about this problem.

Consumer states whiles driving 30mph the transmission slipped causing the vehicle to stall in the street. Please provide any additional information.ph

The last owner had this problem so he had the transmission rebuilt but it happened again.

Consumer has problem with the automatic transmission. Dealer notified.

Consumer states transmisson has been replaced four times, and currently needs its fifth transmission, manufacturer is aware of the problem and has been sharing the cost of the bill with the consumer.

We have had a 1992 subaru svx and are very disappointed with the extensive problems with the transmission.we are going to have a new one put in and the fact that this model/year has had transmission problems so much and that subaru obviously realized the problem with the transmission by 1993.why were these transmissions not recalled or at least provided with some type of correction?

2nd transmission failure/2nd owner of vehicle; believe this is high incident to this particular svx model.

Transmission has not totally failed yet, i have been advised that it will and must be fixed. Your form does not allow canadian entries i.e province, postal code

Pemature failure of transmission. There's actually a tsb on this failure showing that the manufacture new of this failure.

I purchases a subaru svx 1992 model. I test drove it and it seemed fine. Took it to a mechanic to have it looked over and it came back clean except for some suggestions to change brake pads , fluids etc. This was all done. However a couple months later a major problem occurred. The gear would sometimes not shift, the car would make a loud thud sound in reverse and over rev on highway driving. I found out from various forums that this car has a flaw , the transmission is due to failure. Every car owner in this forum has experienced premature transmission failure. The cost to have this completely fixed costs over $4000. A problem that owners should not pay for because of faulty engineering. The later models have the same problem but not as prone to it. Why did subaru never have these cars recalled or parts recalled?another problem occurred, while driving the car back from the purchase location, there was a humming sound from the trunk, it got louder and louder and at 500 miles later it was a grinding and loud sound. My mechanic listed it as a wheel bearing problem. On subaru forums as well as advice from mechanics the subaru is prone to sever wheel bearing problems. In some cases generating heat that they had recounted cars with molded bearings and broken axles. Another problem is the abs system. I guess the brake pump is also a component that leaks. I need to have my braked refilled every other day and the fuel pump costs around 2000$i wish for you to send this report to subaru to voice this concern for me and on behalf of the many subaru svx drivers that are faced with enduring these costly mistakes due to poor engineering. Subaru should have a program to fix these parts or allow a trade in for current blue book refunds or some way or letting individuals know that they are sorry. The car is a fine piece of art and these minor problems makes it a piece of junk.

Subaru tranny's failing left and right. Just look through your database

Transmission failed backing out of driveway causing car to stall in street. It had to be manually pushed out of potential danger. No forwarning of failure, the car was running in a normal manor when the failure occured. Itwas fortunate that there was no traffic when the incident happened or that it did not happen on the expressway.

1992 subaru svx transmission failure. Everything on the car works great but 3rd and 4th gear.. Subaru needs to help us out since the repairs would cost $4200, that's morethen blue book.

While drivingvehicle felt as if it was in neutral, it wouldn't go. Dealer contacted, and stated transmission should be rebuilt. No warranty expired. Repairwork done at owner's expense.

I am feeling the failure of my transmission, which is quite common to all 1992 subaru svx and the company hasn't really taken any precautionary or even recall for those defective transmissions and many of 1992 owners have spent a lot in this issue and even some of those have changed to manual transmissions. The company is charging about $4,200 to install a new tranmission. I am gettin whether they are making money on these transmissions.

Complete transmission and all-wheel drive component failure with original transmission replaced with used.(17,000mi) components. As installed used components do not shift properly from 2nd to 3rd gears, and all-wheel-drive does not function at low rpm due to low hydraulic pressure(functions only at 2500 rpm and up).subaru dealer says all components are working properly, but agrees transmission does not perform in correct manner.

Transmission failed at 95,000 miles while vehicle was in use, caused safety hazard.

This is the second time that i know of that this car's transmission has failed.

Subaru is aware of the lack of durability oftransmission. They upgraded in later years, they should offer compensation to those they didnot notify of the upgrades.

The transmission has failed a total of 5 times.nlm

The subaru svx transmission has several problems that need to be addressed immediately,it can be unpredicatble at times and thus could easily result in an accident due to unreliable acceleration and power transfer.after i had my original transmission replaced, i was suprised to quickly learn that my new transmission was fading quickly, subaru i obviously satisfied with just replacing the transmission until the owners powertrain warranty is complete, then sticking the owner with the unfair responsibilty of either replacing their own transmission at their cost, or just to continue driving their car in its unpredictable state, this policy/practice is simply unnacceptable to me, immediate action needs to be mandated, and this transmission problem needs to be fixed with a recall and a solution to the problem, such as a modified, redesigned transmission, before somebody gets hurt by pressing the gas pedal and just lurking forward into traffic, just to be confronted with a transmission that refuses to engage at critical times, this could easily kill somebody with speeds that we americans drive these days.please consider this comment and the others that i am sure you have received, and do the right thing, mandate a recall. Thank you !

Transmission failed with 64000 mi. Trans shop "rebuilt" it and added a trans cooler for 2200$ as soon as i fist drove it i noticed the car "binding up" during turns at slow speed. The bearing failures and transmission failures have been inherent with the subaru svx.this i only found to be true since logging on the internet on web sites pertaining to the svx.it is unjust that just because there are relatively few svx on the road that they should, we owners, be overlooked.defects should be corrected by the manufacturers and we owners should not be held, or be expected to be financially accountable since in my case every year i had to go to the dealer to have this repaired.and recently, a new transmission rebuilt.i know that any investigation will prove that this defect is true for all of the svx produced and i am pretty sure that the owners will have a pile of repair work that can justify our claims.thank you

Transmission slip between 2nd and 3rd gear.

As a mechanic, i must say that i never have seen so many tsb's, modifications, and failures for a trans that was not recalled.it's obvious that this trans is as defective, if not more, than the same units in the legacy and other models that were recalle

Transmission would not engage into reverse gear.after shifting into and out of reverse several times with no luck, i stepped on the brake and pushed slightly on the gas pedal, then shifted into reverse and got a huge klunking noise, after which the reverse gear engaged.this could be a very dangerous situation.also, transmission began slipping between first, second, and third gears, mostly between second and third, i believe.apparently this problem is due to an inherent design flaw on behalf of the manufacturer.i have read about hundreds of similar cases with this faulty transmission.i am not aware of any recalls at this time, but think the manufacturer should be held responsible for this costly and dangerous design flaw.

Second gear failed in transmissionserviced at 30,000 miles.

My svx, although it is a 92' the front differential failed at about 98,000 miles.i expected the life of the transmission to last a lot longer.the car is in good condition, but it will cost me over $6000 to fix as reno subaru says i will need a complete new transmission to fix the problem.the car isprobabley only worth about that much.my car is sitting in my drive way, i don't want to scrap it but don't want to spend the entire worth of the car to fix the problem.

Just the transmission, and the all wheel drive assembly

Many subaru svxs have had propblem transmissions but subaru ignores the problems.my particular problem is that the tranny does not engage until the engine rpm rises significantly.the car only has 80,000 miles on it and has been taken care of. Most of these svxs, esp. From '92-'94 have had problems with the transmission.my transmisson, as with many others, is going out prematurely due to defects.

I have replaced the transmission in this car on twice.the first transmission was shipped from california, from a wrecked svx.however, the second transmission was rebuilt.the first replacement lasted only nine months.the rebuilt transmission is still being used and works well.however, i still feel unsafe in my vehicle due to the perpetual transmission problems associated with this make.

The bearings on the transmission have failed. The car only has 70,000 miles on it and the dealership told me the transmissions are prone to failure as soon as 50,000 miles. The speedometer has failed and the car will not go into any gear. The car has been meticulously maintined with all the dealer records.

Have replaced wheel bearings several times (4) in three years.transmission failed and needs replacing.these a currently known defects with the svx.the transmission is a very costly replacement.

I have purchased this car through a smaller dealer, i thought that my problems with the car were only because of poor business through dealer, i had to pay out $1,900 for the transmission and $400. For the bearings. I then learned that these are very common problems with this model and yearand all svx style cars up until 97's.

While driving vehicle at 15-20 mph, the transmission stopped working in reverse and 1st gear , but would work in 2nd / 3rd, and 4th gear. Dealer / manufacturer notified, and would repair transmissionat consumer's cost.

Original transmission failed at 58,000 miles and was replaced by subaru under warranty.second transmission just failed at 107000 miles and subaru denies any responsibility.reputable mechanics advise that 3 transmissions in 107000 miles on a luxury car of this vintage is not only unusual, but also indicative of manufacturing problems.many transmission complaints appear on the internet, but subaru's corporate offices deny any knowledge of transmission problems with this car.nlm

Transimission had to be rebuilt due to metal particles being found in fluid.this seems to be a common problem on this model car.passenger side rear wheel bearing had to be replaced.it started making a scrapping noise and the car was undrivable at that point.

Transmission failure.

Transmission issues all around, many concerns on the upgrades since 92, no recalls but just about a complete redesign of the faulty original design, leaves us 92 owners in the cold.

I own a 1992 subarus svx . I had to have the transmission rebuilt at a cost of $2500.00 now 40,000 miles later it needs another one , from reports i have read there is serious factory flaws in this cars transmission.

The contact owns a 1992 subaru svx.while driving 23 mph, the contact noticed a shifting delay.the vehicle would shut off when driving in reverse and had to be shifted into park in order to be restarted.when the vehicle was placed into drive, the engine would rev while driving.the failures occurred each time the vehicle was driven.the contact was concerned that a crash could occur due to the vehicle shutting off.the dealer inspected the vehicle and found no error codes or failures; however, they stated that the transmission could be the cause of the stalling.a diagnostic could be performed at the cost of $180.the most recent failure occurred on november 10, 2008.the manufacturer has not been notified.the current mileage was approximately 128,000 and failure mileage was approximately 120,000.

I just wanted to record the fact that my 1992 subaru svx is on its third transmission and second engine.the dealer failed to mention this to me when i purchased this car a few months ago.although subaru canada was honest and did provide me, my car's history.i am suspicious and worried that there may be a fundamental problem with the svx's transmission.feel free to contact subaru canada regarding all the work that has been done on my car (that they are aware of).

The transmission slips in 4th gear when it's temperature and the weather temperature is cool. The transmission also fails to lock in gear. The speedometer fluctuates and does not indicate the correct speed being driven. This occurs because the speedometer sensor is installed on top on the transmission, and the transmission burnt through the sensor. The failure is common with this vehicle per the dealership.

Less than 20k on rebuilt trans w/o abusive driving habits. No options from dealer except to send it for another remanufacture.where is my option in repair and explanation of metal shaving source?

At this mileage the transmission nearly failed completely. In first gear the car will not go more than 25-30 miles per hour, and it rarely will shift up to second gear at all. Reverse gear engages with a serious "thunk" that shakes the entire car, and there is no power to speak of in reverse (engine must be revved to get care to move). Mechanic says at least two clutch packs and other parts are shot and the transmission can only be rebuilt, not repaired.

Cruising on expressway when suddenly transmission can't find third or fourth gears.had to drive home (40 miles) in second gear.

To whom it may concern:my transmission has gone out twice now in the last two months.it would be easy to say that the tranny is going out because of my driving or something to that effect.but i know that i take care of my car with pride and drive it in the same manner.i have done my reading on this transmission, i have heard so many other people have the same problems.i am dissappointed and upset that i have to spend more on replacement of transmissions then i do on my car payments and insurance combined.i will have spent $8000 on tranny work by the end of this month since i have purchased this car in february.i know that the real question is whether or not this is a manufacturer defect or operator error.well, i hope for my sake and the sake of all others with this problem that your investigations conclude that a majority of the transmissions are defective.as a result of this potential defect, a worthy car is being taken off the road and consumers money is being spent on what should be a factory recall.thank you for your time, it is greatly appreciated.sincerely, tony spence

Automatic transmission, which has a history of failure for this type of vehicle (4eat transmission).

The transmission on this car has been replaced twice and the third transmission is starting to go. Replacements @48k, 92k and now it showing signs @131k. Each tranny cost nearly $2000.... Please help.

I was informed to file with this organization because there are alot of problems with the svx transmission, however there were so few built that no one will probably ever make suabru help out the consumer. This car is very expensive to buy as well as repair.

Transmission stalls a bit between shifting of gears, specifically from 1 to 2 gear. It effects the driver because in the midst of driving, the vehicle loses control over acceleration over the period of time between shifting. Also, the whole suspension system rattles and seems loose like it will fall apart.

Transamission on svx is a known defective system that should be fixed by subaru

I have read on the internet this is a common problem, and exspensive is there anything you can do to get the subaru to reimburse me for this negligent failure to recall the transmissions.dt

Vehicle wouldn't shift into 3rd gear, it had to be driven in 2nd gear home. There was no warning.consumer will add more after speaking toa dealer.

I strongly feel the manufacturer should order a complete recall on all svx models and install a new and non defective transmission, it seems that this is a very common problem and in reality has no real solution to it, i4ve read of cars working on their third transmission already and not having the mileage that my own car registers, i4m very worried that the repair of my vehicle will only delay another inevitable failure. At the moment my estimate for repair is 2000 dollars, it wouldn4t bother me to pay the amount if i could somehow know that the transmission will not fail again, but by the looks of it, this is something inevitable.

Apparently thi is a chronic problem in svx's.a costly chronic problem.

Transmission failure is a chronic problem with the svx.the majority of the 1992 svx owners are on their second or third transmission

Owners of this car which if needed 100-1000 or more owners can claim that this car built by subaru has a defect in the transmission. The transmission was poorly built because of lack of lubrication to internal parts and lack of fluid cooling. This is my second failure on this same car. Another common defect on this car is the wheel bearings. I have replaced them with repeats going on 4 times. The bearings are failing too quickly for any car. I would like something to be done so that owners of these cars can either have a recall done on the transmissions and wheel bearing or comensated for repeat work done on these issues. Thank you and i'll look forward to your email reply.

As you know the subaru svx is known for its faulty transmission. I recently bought an svx not knowing of the factory defect in the transmission...well i had to find out the hard way, my car started to delay in shifting and then started shifting between drive abd 3rd gear in a very uncomfortable manner, now my car jerks into reverse and shifts very hard.i know that this is a very common problem and hope this does not get overlooked, i think that subaru should pay to fix these obvious factory defects. Thank youso much,..quinn a. Yeamans.ts

Transmission has failed for the second time after being fixed.no warning this time, just wouldn't go in reverse. Transmission is being rebuilt by subaru.it is a 1992 subaru svx.

When i bought car 30,000 miles ago, they said tranny was replaced.i now learn there is alot of problems with the transmission in the 1992-1994 1/2 subaru svxs.i am disabled due to an auto accident and don't have the money to shell out on transmissions this often.i hope that someone talks to subaru and makes them accountable for what they are doing to their customers.it not only looks bad that they designed something this poor in the first place, but they know the problem and are not taking the proper steps to fix it with the cars they sold for an outrageous amount of money.

Power train - automatic transmissiondespite regular professional car care at either a subaru dealer in 80 - 100 mile radius) or local automotive shops, car experienced a second instance oftransmission failure.in consulting several subaru svx - related sites, i learned problems of this nature have been prevalent.

Consumer had to replace transmission at 80000 miles. At this time transmission is going out again. Also, wheelbearings are defective, water is able to get inside and corrode wheel bearings.consumer has had to replacethem3 times.

Fixes are known for these problems, i feel subaru of america should pick-up the tab! the transmission shift problem was present in the re-manufactured transmission from day-1. It is my understanding that several problems exist in the 92-93 trannys all of which have fixes!as for the wheel bearing issue, the original bearings started failing at about 60k the replacements last about 1 year and then become noisy. From 60k i have had 8 bearings replaced. This procedure cost the customer about $330.00 per bearing replacement. I hope something can be done.

This is a problem with all the svx's not only mine subaru should have to take care of this problem know i have a car i cant afford to fix and i cant trade it in either.

Transmission started slipping in third to forth then started slipping into third. Now has only first and second gears operating. Have seen numerous complaints regarding this transmission in svxs including numerous factory tsb's for known problems. The local dealer states this is a known problem and it is not unusual for many transmission replacements in same vehicle. Manufacturer has obviously inadequately designed and released this part and should be forced to recall and repair with known factory fixes.

Transmission slips in morning before completely warm, doesn't drop to 1st gear, doesn't engage reverse for about 5 seconds.

Transmission and wheel bearing failures occur very frequently on this car. Some action must be taken to hold the manufacturer responsible.

I purchased this as a used vehicle, but purchased an extended warrantydue tothe potential (expensive) problems. I was assured by the dealer that this vehicle did not have a recall on the transmission and that the car was in excellent condition. I started experiencing slippage and "clanking" within 6 months. I took it to the dealer three times complaining about the transmission. I was assured that no problem could be found. Less than 6 months after last the inspection, the transmission failed completely. After some additional research i found this to be a significant problem with this model since inception/introduction. I am investigating the possibility of a class action lawsuit. It appears subaru has ignored this problem, and dealers continue to sell these models, misrepresenting the potential for extensive and very expensive repairs. Subaru and its representatives should acknowledge and accept responsibility for this defect.------- dims 11 ivoq entry posted after 12/12/02 cut-over to artemis-----769750.

The bearing problem started as soon as i bought the car - originally under warranty. No problem, until car failed first inspection (after initial for purchase) due to rear bearings.replaced several times (after the first 'fix', parts covered thankfully under subaru parts warranty).now out of warranty and concerned that the dealer will postpone 'agreeing' that the bearings are indeed what i am now hearing (again) until the parts warranty dries up and i have to pay the full load.also, car was driven at another dealership for a potential trade/sale, the rep said there was a tranny problem.i put in a different tranny fluid (i'd always noticed the steering vibration in hard, slow speed turns like parking), and that lessened the problem.i don't feel tranny fluid is a fix, but also do not feel that a tranny w/68,000 miles should have already been showing signs of potential failure.not many mechanics will touch this car, so owning an svx (otherwise pure joy) leaves you at the mercy of the diagnosis of the subaru dealer's mechanic.

I am requesting help to pressure suabruof america to recall this wide spread problem with the 1992 subaru svx. The trany problems that i have to date, the wheel bearing failure, steering box failure is a noted by most owners of this subaru model. This is costly to repair and unfair when a manufactor is aware but willn't just do the right thing. My transmission is failing now, i can't afford to replace this defective part at $3.500 or more. My wheel bearings still make loud noise after over 5 attempts to repair at only 44,000mils. My steering box is making loud noises. The sad thing is that, subaru owner of the svx`s all experiance at least two, of this problems across the country. Why can`t subaru just fix our vehicles?

It is my understanding that wheel bearing failure is very common with svx's.why were svx's with vin# nh106286-nh108731 excluded from the tsb's which addressed transmission failure in svx's.i am to understand that all other svx's with transmissions identical to those excluded recieved these modifications?thank you

I find it hard to dismiss the percentage of 136 people resonding 41% had to at least repair one wheel bearing and also 40% had to replace a transmission. So please look into these problems that subaru has had with their svx with concern for the consumer and for their safety.

I have owned this car for almost six years. From the begining, i have had problems with the automobile. Within the first year, a rear strut assembly failed and was replaced. Next by transmission failed. At the time of repair, i discovered that recall work that was claimed to be done was actually falsified. Following this, my transmission failed again and was replaced with a remanufactured transmission. At about 43000 miles, my rear right hub bearing was replaced under warranty. Six months, later, my left hub bearing was replaced. Since then, i have replaced the rear right bearing an additional 3 times and the left an additional 2 within a span of 3 years. The dealer claims that it is perfectly normal for the bearings to wear out afer about one year. This sounds like an engineering flaw. Lastly, my transmission has produced a buckling feel when i make sharp turns. This problem has worsened, and i fear that i will have spent some more money to get this fixed soon. I feel that subaru is aware of the many problems of the svx, but has not taken action to fix them and is endangering the safety of svx owners.

Vehicle was in drive when pulling into an intersection, however it did not go into gear and consumer had to force it into second, vehicle had very little power, since december it has been repaired three times for shifting problemsand a transmission shop stated that these cars are notorious for transmissions failing between 55 and 80 thousand miles.consumer experienced steering system problems with vehicle.

The transmission has failed twice.once with the original one that i bought with the car, and again with the second won that i purchased. My power steering never quite works correctly.and i just waiting for the bearings to go bad, since everyone else that i know with the car has had their bearings go bad.

Transmission stalls a bit between shifting of gears, specifically from 1 to 2 gear. It effects the driver because in the midst of driving, the vehicle loses control over acceleration over the period of time between shifting. Also, the whole suspension system rattles and seems loose like it will fall apart.

Rear bearing on the back of the car that holds holds in wheel rear axle had to be replaced four times there seems to be a defect in rear bearing rear axle assemblies, both rear wheel anf front wheel bearings had to be replaced.

Have replaced wheel bearings several times (4) in three years.transmission failed and needs replacing.these a currently known defects with the svx.the transmission is a very costly replacement.

Noise &pully bearing seal leaked

Replaced 4 wheel bearing due to persistent roaring at all speeds, but especially above 45mph.rear wheel bearings were previously replaced 20k miles earlier.front driver's side abs wheel sensor failed, allegedly due to corrosion, but possibly dealer negligence while replacing wheel bearings.

Consumer had to replace transmission at 80000 miles. At this time transmission is going out again. Also, wheelbearings are defective, water is able to get inside and corrode wheel bearings.consumer has had to replacethem3 times.

Rear wheel bearing problem, replaced, bearing make loud noise again

Rear bearing on the back of the car that holds holds in wheel rear axle had to be replaced four times there seems to be a defect in rear bearing rear axle assemblies, both rear wheel anf front wheel bearings had to be replaced.

Rear wheel bearing malfunction.

This car has had two bearing failures on the same axel within 20,000 miles.from discussions with other owners and owners web sites, this is a known manufacturing defect but subaru will only warrant repairs for 3 years/36,000 miles on the original part and 1 year on subsequent repairs.i contacted the dealer from i purchased the car and who made the first repair, they are unwilling to stand behind their work.i called the subaru national customer service line and they also are unwilling to provide support beyond stated warranties.as a manufacturing defect is there any further course that can be taken?

I've had both rear wheel bearings replaced, the right rear i've had replaced 3 times, the last one lasted less than 1000 miles, at which point i replaced the whole housing and bearing.

The rear wheel bearing was making noise when vehicle was purchased and was repaired by dealer, about 14 thousand miles it's making noise again.

Have experienced worn rear-wheel bearings on five separate occasions over the last four years. Approximately every 12 - 20 miles (of mostly freeway driving) rear-wheel bearnings have needed replacement.

Sidewall bubbles - two on same tire 1/4 around tire apart.i understand that a bubble can be cause by a pothole impact, however, after talking to a nhtsa expert and viewing the tire i am not convinced it was not defective.the tire is a high end tire (not cheap) and should be able to hold up to regular driving.since there are two bubbles it lends itself to the view that there was a defect in the cord itself which perhaps made it weak .i am concerned as my car is an all wheel drive vehicle and i have all four michelin pilot alpin tires (snow tires) on the car.the tires were purchased in nov. 2000, and were only on the vehicle for the winter.they have approx. 3-4 k miles on them.i just had them put back on my car on october 29, 2001.i noticed the larger bubble when i had my car in for service on nov. 6, 2001.the other smaller bubble i noticed as i was looking for the dotnumbers for this report.on nov. 6, 2001 i had a tire dealer look at the tire ( i don't know if the new bubble was there at that time - it is apparent but much smaller in appearance)could the cord be so weak that with having taken off and put the tire backon both on 10/29 and 11/6 caused it to bubble?i am concerned as it was difficult to find consumer complaints as it is unclear whether they are listed as the pilots or xse in your database.in fact when i called the hotline he said he could not find this tire at all in your database (i did online).if he had trouble, are other complainants having the same difficulty and putting them in the wrong category, or just giving up?please check thouroughly for other complaints, especially pilot alpin and xse as both are on the tire. (dot number: ex9x518tiresize: 225/50r-16)

Transimission had to be rebuilt due to metal particles being found in fluid.this seems to be a common problem on this model car.passenger side rear wheel bearing had to be replaced.it started making a scrapping noise and the car was undrivable at that point.

Would like to fix anything that has been covered by warranty or recall

The transmission fails on the subaru svx due to a poor design.

My car has had repeated defects effecting the transmission and front wheel bearings.the repair cost for the transmission exceedes$3000. And the bearings cost $400. Ea.this manufactures defect hasnot been recalled, and the manufacturer, subaru of america has failedto repair the defect.

The wheel bearings fail on the subaru svx repeatedly due to a poor design.

Car has a surging problem at idle when cold. Started car, put in gear, fully depressing accelerator and car barely moves, then seconds later, car gains power suddenly and surges forward. Also, wheel bearings went bad, and had to be replaced 3 times in less than 20,000 miles (13 months).transmission slips when shifting while accelerating.car sometimes loses power then surges forward between gears.

Vehicle was parked in a lot, when consumer started the ignition, instantly the rpms "revved" up to the maximum.consumer turned vehicle off, waited a few minutes, and then restarted.when gear was placed in reverse, the vehicle suddenly accelerated backward almost hitting pedestrians.

Vehicle hesitates on acceleration. Takes 1-2 seconds for drivetrain to respond to acceleration and then vehicle takes off much quicker than anticipated. Happens from a stop or while moving, if veh is hot or cold and if it is dry or wet out. I feel this is a dangerous situation as veh lurches forward when proceeding from a stop and could cause a collision with the veh in front or with a pedestrian.

While drivingvehicle started to lose power.when pushing ongas pedal vehicle would not move, it was still running.

While driving and trying to stop the vehicle would not stop. Car went into a tree andstopped.dealer is not aware of the incident or the problem.

Left rear wheel bearing first failed at 55000 miles; replacement failed 59000; new replacements failing @ 65000.(at time of 2nd replacement, dealer insisted i buy a new wheel -- probably unnecessary.)how many complaints before recall mandated?

Transmission failure while driving.rpm's jumped from 2.5k to 4.5k with a loss of power.transmission now needs an overhaul.rear wheel bearings, both right and left, have also prematurely worn out and failed.research on the internet shows these two probems to be common failures in the subaru svx, especially 92-94 model years.

I have reported my transmission problem to you previously...i have reported problems with binding in the drive wheels because the tranny and the clutch were not communicating properly.now the car is stubborn to shift from overdrive and i am worried that this could cause a serious accident.additionally the wheel bearings have gone bad again and need replaced in less than 18 months of use.
