Read complaints for SUBARU OUTBACK (2021)

Vehicle was purchased less than 5 months ago, has less than 1000 miles and the battery has died. Car is used regularly, as a family car, to run errands in our neighborghood. Battery does not hold a charge. It will charge with a battery tender, but will then drain quickly.

Purchased the car 7 days ago.drove approximately 50 miles so far.went out to start the car this morning and the battery was dead.no lights had been left on.car needed to be jumped.

Drove car and parked for 15 minutes. When i tried to start it again it would not turn over. Batterywas completely dead and could not be jump started. Car is a 2021 model with only 11k miles on it.there was no prior warning of a low battery. It left me stuck in an isolated parking lot. Probably not a major safety issue but apparently a known issue for late model subaru outbackā€™s so i wanted to add the 2021 model to the affected list.

We bought this car new about 3 weeks ago and tried to drive it this morning to find it completely dead. It was last driven about 60 hours ago. It has just over 1,000 miles on it. There was no warning lamp that came on when we last drove the car. I was able to jump the car and have it on a trickle charger now but this is completely unacceptable for a brand new vehicle. I've reached out to the dealer but have not heard back.

Record of subaru outback electrical issues 2021 april 25 purchased. May 5 ca.no startsalesman came to home and jump started. June 28-29no start, recharged and had no further electrical issues until--- july 27no start. Briefly left vehicle. On return wouldn't start, dash lights crazy blinking.jump box started it.july 28 left it all morning at subaru service for eval; result: "no problems were detected." aug.5no start. Parked at friends for 3 hr. On return wouldn't start, dash lights crazy blinking. Jump box restart. Aug. 7no start. Left ignition on for 3 hr testing new solar panel.purchase solar panel, proves useless, ignition drained battery.trickle charged for several hours, starts. Aug. 9 no start. Battery dead. Trickle charged for several hours, starts. Conclusion: subaru outbacks are: (1) inherently unreliable, (2) subaru has known about this problem for several years, and (3) subaru is dishonest in not admitting to and fixing the problem.

My problem is an intermittent one.the infotainment display goes blank and reboots.when this happens i have lost rear automatic braking, the eyesight system, cruise control, the backup camera display and driver monitoring along with other non-safety related systems (radio, environment control). The dealer has not been able to reproduce, but has gotten error codes to send to subaru of america (soa) along with print out of error messages received via the my subaru website.the vehicle has been to the shop 6 times in the first 9,000 miles. There has been no inspection of the car by soa, just dealer service. There is no warnings until the issue occurs.soa has been notified via certified letter and has been unresponsive as to a fix since 7/19/2021.

I bought this 2021 subaru outback in jan 2, 2021. In mid feb, i drove the outback to lake tahoe. On my way, i went to costco gas station for gas after 1 hour highway driving. The car was just dead after refueling. I called roadside assistance not knowing what happened. The car was jumpstarted. I was able to continue my trip and back home. After i was back home, i drove the car to the dealer that sold the car. I was told it was battery problem and a new battery was installed. A few weeks later, my car couldn't start in my garage on a saturday morning. I had to jumpstart the car using a handheld battery myself. I went to the dealership and was told they couldn't find anything wrong. I think subaru outback has a defect in electric system that drain the battery.

My subaru battery was completely dead after only having it for 3 months and 700 miles on odometer. I was left stranded due to not being able to start vehicle. Vehicle was towed to dealer. Dealer took 2 day to diagnose that the battery was bad and they replaced battery. Dealer claims the passenger map light was left on. This light was not left on unless the tow truck driver left the light on. It was night time when the vehicle was towed and when the vehicle was jump started the light was not on.

Problem has occurred twice when i put my cellphone in the same pocket as my key fob.the car will not start when i press the start button, although the ignition will be on and the dashboard instruments light up.even if i separate the fob from the phone, it won't start. Holding the keyfob right up to the start button won't allow it to start. The battery in the fob is brand new.on this car, only the fob can start the car. I have had to use the mysubaru app via starlink (a subscription service) to remote start the car using my cellphone.however, i cannot shift it into gear.i must turn the car off, and then restart the car by pushing the button.it will then start normally. If i did not subscribe to starlink, i would have been able to start the car at all.the phone/fob proximity problem seems to create a logic fault in the vehicle programming which then prevents you from starting the car using the fob, even if you separate it from the phone.

I bought a new car in december 2020. One day in jan 2021, i noticed that the battery had died. I jump started it and then in february 2021, i had to jumpstart it 3 times. At least the last instance, i was careful to check no interior lights were on, and it still happened. I went to the dealer and they replaced the battery. I hope that fixes it.

Multiple times issue with battery not providing sufficient charge to start the car resulting in inconvenience, stress and mental agony. From a safety perspective the car was not performing as per committed standards and electrical systems have gotten affected. Also the battery was leaking acid fumes causing health related hazards.this despite keeping the car running in idle multiple times. Further when given to tindol subaru they did not rectify the problem but blamed me for not running the car enough which is a lie and false. They simply kept the car for 2 days and returned it to me!! i have had car cold cranked 5 to 6 times in2 months till battery was eventually replaced.

We bought the car new and 3 months into ownership it won't start due to battery issues. Nothing improper or irregular was done with the car. It just doesn't function by default.

After 5000 miles my battery has been drained and is currently dead. I was told i must lock it every time i am not driving to ensure battery life is extended. Even with doing this battery is still dead after barely 5000 miles.

I purchased this vehicle in may 2021 and since then have had four incidents where the battery was not able to start the vehicle. The first two incidents were when i was camping, so there was some heavy, battery only electrical system use, e.g. Opening/closing the hatchback, turning on lights, etc.

The contact owns a 2021 subaru outback. The contact stated that the battery had fully drained and was recharged two times. There was no warning light illuminated. The third time the vehicle was towed to an unknown mechanic and was diagnosed with needing the battery to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. Subaru was informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 832.

The contact owns a 2021 subaru outback. The contactā€™s wife was driving 40 mph and noticed that the center console display screen went blank and rebooted independently after a few minutes. However, the failure reoccurred and affected several safety features on the vehicle including the hvac controls, bluetooth connectivity, and navigation on the vehicle. The contact took the vehicle to a local dealer who inspected the vehicle and duplicated of the failure the but could not determine the cause of the failure. The dealer was able to install a software monitor to replicate the failure so the contact could notify the failure to the dealer. The contact took the vehicle back to the local dealer where the dealer replaced the center module in an attempt to repair the vehicle however, the failure still occurred. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 1,800.

The contact owns a 2021 subaru outback. The contact stated while coming out of a full stop, the vehicle would stall without warning. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 6,500.

Brand new 2021 outback premier @ 647 miles and while parked overnight in our private driveway we noticed thatthe windshield hadcracked the next morning. Less than 7 days of ownership dealer claims it was a rock chip . The windshield is split down the middle of the screen. Dealer response is insulting. Especially since they know this is an issue with the glass. Dealer pushed their expensive insurance to cover when we purchased the car. We did not know this was a recurring issue at this time with the cars. If we had known we would not have purchased this car. It will always be an issue. Will it crack again? who pays, will it leave us stranded somewhere? subaru does not appear to be willing to stand by its product and take care of its customers

Subaru has apparently integrated their eyesight collision avoidance system with their infotainment system and the infotainment system crashes constantly.when it crashes about 50% of the time eyesight goes offline and kicks cruise control off.at highway speeds this is very dangerous.the vehicle will slow down 5-10 mph between when the system crashes and when someone realizes what has happened in order to put their foot on the gas pedal to keep their speed up.i've almost been rear-ended multiple times now because of this. Subaru has been aware of this issue for two full model years now and is going into a 3rd year with the same problem.the update they issues in spring 2021 made the problem worse not better.subaru must be forced to either fix the issue immediately or recall the entire system and replace it before someone dies in a highspeed accident caused by this system.until two days ago subaru of america's employees were arrogant, condescending, and beyond unhelpful.wendy clough has stated subaru plans to issue an update in august has no actual confirmed timeframe.subaru has done nothing to communicate with owners or dealers on mitigation options, if any, nor to warn customers of potential risks.subaru must be forced to notify all owners of the issue immediately.

The contact owns a 2021 subaru outback. The contact stated that while driving 60 mph, the brakes engaged inadvertently. The contact took the vehicle to hyman bros. Subaru (11960 midlothian turnpike, midlothian, va 23113) where the failure could not be duplicated. The dealer stated that the eyesight by the rear view mirror needed to be recalibrated. The vehicle remained at the dealer unrepaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 900.

On 3 occasions the eyesight automatic braking activated with no apparent reason. The first was at highway speeds, second at 45mph and the third at about 30/35mph. In the first case a car entered the lane but there was considerable distance. In the second a car made a right turn into my lane and was slow but there was about 1/4 mile or more space and the last one occurred as, my wife, followed the curve of the road to the right. There were no vehicles near by onlya median. In each case there was no gradual slow down only a full force application of the brakes. This led to the car lunging forward.fortunately in all cases there was no one behind us or we would have been rear ended. The associated red heads-up lights activated at the very same time as the brakes did. I have called the dealer for an appointment to bring it in. No one else has inspected the vehicle.

I had the car only 10 days from the dealership, my husband and i were on the highway heading to an event when we heard a crack, i looked up and there was a horizontal crack heading from left to right in the windshield.

Automatic braking system activated abruptly and forcefully when a vehicle in the adjacent lane slowed down to make a turn. This has occurred numerous time both on the highway and in city driving. I have called subaru to report the issue. They did not recommend taking it to a service center, although i plan to. The car otherwise has shown no warning of automatic braking malfunction prior to or after the incidents. However the automatic braking system has continued to malfunction. I now deactivate the automatic braking every time i start the car to avoid further incidents.potentially related to the automatic braking malfunction, the car regularly alerts me to keep my eyes on the road while i have my eyes on the road. Common situations when this happens include when i scan an intersection on approach for potential hazards (e.g., pedestrians, people running red lights, etc.), fixing my glasses or hat while continuing to look straight ahead, and simply scratching my face all trigger the warning. Occasionally, the warning is activated for seemingly no reason. At best, itā€™s a nuisance; at worst itā€™s a distraction and a liability. I now deactivate this feature when i start my car.

While moving forward slowly with foot lightly on the brakes and pulling into a parking space at local shopping center the car accelerated and the steering wheel turned to the right.the result of the cars actions made the car jump the curb, drive across the sidewalk and then across small hedges in the landscaped area.car finally came to a stop about 20 feet later, with me pushing hard on the brake, just prior to entering parking lot roadway cross traffic.there was no alarm, warning or any other indication from any of the safety systems.as far as the automobile was concerned, nothing wrong had happened.luckily there were no other vehicles or pedestrians on sidewalk or in the landscaped area between the parking space and roadway.there was no vehicle damage as the shrubs were all fairly short and the car simply drove over them.my husband disabled the lane departure system and i continue to operate the car. Based on all the previous incidents reported on this site, my husband indicates that subaru will blame operator error.i have a perfect driving record and this incident was not caused by me incorrectly stepping on the gas.

During heavy rains, the vehicles leak water into the driver's side wheel well.numerous times back to the dealer and the vehicle being piece by piece all seals are being replaced.as per numerous blogs on subaru forums, an indication of a faulty windshield seal could be the issue, but the dealership refuses to replace or reset the windshield seal.bought the car on june 28, 2021, and have been to the dealership 3 times for the same issue.the dealership is replacing seals on the skylight and door but as of yet no resolution.at the time of this complaint, the vehicle has been at dealership for 3 weeks with no resolution.

A design flaw in the remote (required for both keyless entry and vehicle operation) leads to accidental trunk openings due to "pocket trunk opening". This is a safety hazard as it could lead to humans or animals entering the vehicle, as well as a potential route to water damage. This happens while the vehicle is parked and locked, and the key is in one's pocket and in range (eg in a house near the driveway)

Windshield cracked at bottom base without any impact from something hitting it. In standstill traffic, all of a sudden we heard and saw a crack just appear! then is spread rapidly straight up, then to both sides sides. So scary. This was about 4:45pm on 8/4/2021. We noticed next day it spread even more. Then a day later 8/6/2021 at 3:30pm traveling, the right side base of windshield cracked again! and spread quickly. So now there are two cracks! it is the oddest thing! never experienced anything like this with any vehicle. This is an avis rental car. We will bring it to the suburu dealership in west palm beach, fl when we get home early next week. This windshield is obviously defective.

This is an issue we experienced with an exploding sunroof of our new subaru outback.we purchased the vehicle on december 22, 2020.within days of the purchase, on december 27, 2020, the sunroof spontaneously exploded while driving the vehicle.both the sunroof and interior sunroof covering were closed at the time.the fractured glass was broken outward which leads us to believe this is a vehicle manufacturing defect.we have contacted the dealership where we purchased the vehicle and they referred us to subaru corporate headquarters.

Bought my 2021 outback june 16th. Last week my battery went dead in my driveway. Called customer care and they had to jump me. Yesterday morning it was dead in the driveway again. Again they had to come out and jump me. July 29th was the first time and august 4th was the second time. This is a brand new car!!

I was just driving on the interstate and the windshield started cracking on it's own.there was no damage at all prior to the event.no debris hit the windshield it just started cracking and the crack rapidly grew over the next several minutes to a size of 10 inches.

Windshield failed twice in first six weeks, dealer replaced it once, it lasted 9 days, both times windshield broke in snow storm with defroster on high

My 2021 outbackwindshield just cracked. My 2020 outback did the same thing.apparentlythree class action lawsuits are not enough for them to fix the windshield problem. $1200 to fix, on a brand new car. Looks like the st. Louis arch.

I believe the computer system malfunctions. It is available for inspection upon request. The first problem noticed was the automatic door locking system. Since this is keyless entry, putting your hand in the driver's door handle unlocks the driver's door with accompanying 2 beeps (setting i have chosen). But intermittently my passenger door also unlocks when my passenger puts their hand in their door handle(adds either 1 or 2 beeps to my 2 beeps). Dealer could not duplicate. They assumed i had it set wrong. Dealer confirmed setting was set to driver's door only. I have it set to driver's door only for anti carjacking. I also had an incident when starting the car that only the driver's front speaker was on and it was a horrible loud tinny, staticy sound. I turned my radio on and off repeatedly. Cleared to normal after 1 mile of driving. Sometimes several of my apps are greyed out when starting the car. After 5 minutes of travel they will usually become active. I had one episode of the digital and analog speedometers not matching. The analog was 5 over the digital. When stopped at a light my analog was at 5 mph. Most of the time my analog is 1 sometimes 2 miles more than digital. Also, normal operation is that music continues to play until the driver's door is opened. Twice i have had music turn off when ignition is turned off. It has been to the dealer once, but they didn't find anything. These problems started after a month of ownership. It currently has 2600 miles after 6 months of ownership. I drive 3 miles round trip to work, with occassional trips across the state to see family. It is unknown how many different ways the safety of the driver and occupants could be affected with a malfunctioning computer system. When will it do something unexpected that has serious consequences? the dealer is completely unconcerned which does anger me.

Windshield cracked spontaneously two times. Had to replace windshield twice and had to recalibrate eyesite cameras both times. One time happened while driving and the other time parked.

Crack in windshield appeared with no puncture. Noticed crack when driving on highway. Nothing had hit the windshield, passenger noticed the crack.

Don't buy i regret buying it. Water leaks into the vehicle passenger side door.i got a loaner and the same issue water leaks into the vehicle

Bought the vehicle and basically parked the car in my garage a/o 23 nov 2020. I travel for work most of the time. Between 3 - 7 dec, the car was used by my ex-husband for two trips to the airport to pick me up/drop off from/for a business trip and for me to drop off the title of my old car.on 21 dec, after being parked in the garage for three weeks (since 7 dec), my ex-husband noticed in the garage as he was getting in the car to head to the airport to pick me up from my 3-week business trip, saw a 1 1/2 foot long crack in the windshield originating by the windshield perimeter frame (passenger side).

The front windshield is easily chipped or cracked. A rock hit it, and by the next morning it had starburst across the windshield. We replaced the windshield and two weeks later a second rock chipped it in the same spot. A couple weeks later a third rock chipped it above an inch above the last chip.

Just got a new car in jan 2021. Windshield got chipped easily. I already tried with glasses repair kit several times. And recently it got cracked line (around 30cm 90 degree). The same route to work i drove with my old 2006 toyota rav4 and never got any chip for 6 years. Until i got this new 2021 outack, i have to replace the windshield for less than 60 days of driving. One of my friends got the same trim of car the same month also go replaced windshield last week. The route is on hwy880 from fremont to san jose, ca area.

* the windshield cracked while driving. To the best of my knowledge, nothing hit the windshield, it just cracked. I have not yet repaired it but am getting estimates. * cracked windshields are a safety issue * unknown * no * no

Windshield spontaneously cracked. No warning.

Cracked windshield while parked in the garage

Went out to my car to go home and found a 9 in crack in the windshield.there was no crack when i got out of my car.there is no rock impact and no marks.

An empty plastic box fell on the windshield from maybe 2 feet. The windshield basically shattered, with pieces of glass in the car. We informed our dealership that this is a new car, and we are very scared that their is a defect based on the impact that we saw. Subaru discredited our claim. We have tried everything we can do inform them to look into this possible safety issue. The vehicle was parked, in a garage when the empty box fell on the wind shield. Now we are paying to replace the crack windshield.

After less than 3,000 miles and 6 months, the windshield spontaneously cracked from about 1/3 the way up the driver-side post horizontally about 12ā€¯ toward the center of the car, then up vertically about 10ā€¯ and then horizontally about 24ā€¯ further toward the center of the car. This was reported to subaru of america with case # 1-73126830225 on 2021-08-18.

Windshield cracked on the bottom left of driver's side and continued up and across. There was no point of impact. Getting gas and got back in the car and the crack had formed. Crack grew by 3" just sitting in the driveway. Brand new car with approximately 1400 miles on it when it happened.

Possession of new vehicle was taken 1/13/21. During highway driving on 1/18/21, windshield experienced a surface chip and was repaired the same day by an authorized technician. During highway driving on 1/29/21, windshield experienced another chip in different location which turned into an approximately 10 inch crack minutes later, beyond repair. On march 12, 2021, i was sitting in my idle 2021 subaru outback when i heard a quick pop sound. When i looked up, there was a crack in the windshield. There was no previous damage to the windshield. I currently have 3600 miles on the vehicle. The crack is very linear. The car wasn't running and the weather was pleasant around 65 degrees.

While driving on residential street, i heard a pop and saw my windshield crack.my speed at the time of this incident was 30mph.there was no impact with a foreign object.crack is in front of the eyesight camera and is affecting the functionality of vehicle's safety features. This is a 2021 outback with approximately 3200 miles.

While driving down the highway, a small object (based on sound) struck the windshield and caused a small chip.approximately one minute later, the chip splintered into a four way crack, with two legs showing over 12 inches of crack. Over the next few hours, the cracks grew by over 6 inches. After 3 days the cracks have grown vertically to the edges, and horizontally to 3/4 of the windshield, with additional cracks spidering from original chip. The cracks continue to grow daily. Due to the specialized windshield, immediate replacement is not possible. Chip repair was never available due to immediate spidering of windshield. I am replacing the windshield next week (earliest appointment available).

Car was parked outside. We returned to vehicle and noticed that front windshield had large crack beginning in bottom right and was 2-3 feet in length. The crack grew overnight. This was in a place of business and we do not suspect vandalism. It was a hot day (over 90-degrees with humidity). The air conditioner had been running inside the vehicle. Vehicle has less than 6,000 miles.

Cracked windshield without impact from bottom they replaced it but within a weeksecond one cracked.

Windshield spontaneously cracked where the mirror was atached to the glass.there is a concave indentation where the mirror was attached and we found the mirror hanging by a wire and small glass pieces on the dash.temps were in the low 90s. No one has modified or put any unusual pressure on the mirror, no decorations were attached.the outside of the glass has no chips or cracks anywhere in the glass which was confirmed by the local safelite dealer. This vehicle was purchased new on may 7, 2021.location of incident was temecula, ca.i asked the local dealer to repair under warranty and was told that there is no manufacturer warranty on glass.obviously having your windshield spontaneously crack and the rearview mirror falling off would be a distraction at highway speeds.

Early in february, my car started to send me intermittenat error massages stating that the tires had lost pressure. This happened while driving the vehicle. There was a recall regarding the software, and the dealership stated that they thought the software update would correct the problem. It did not. The next fix involved replacing the module that monitors the tire pressure. This did not fix the problem either. It has been over a month since the problem started. And the dealership does not know how to fix the issue.
