The battery started failing after less than 8000 miles on the car that is less than a year old. It left us stranded multiple times and jump start was required. Once upon jump starting the car the power steering was not functional. Multiple times the airbag failure indicator stayed on for the entire trip. Initially it was not clear to me what is going on as the whole electrical system went haywire and the car was producing a clattering noise instead of the usual starting noise. Eventually i tested the battery and it became evident that it failed. There are many such reports on the internet and also class action lawsuits against subaru due to their failure to address the underlying design flaws of the car. I hope that the nhtsa will force subaru to properly analyze the problem, come up with a proper fix and issue a recall to address this issue with obvious safety aspects.

The contact owned a 2020 subaru outback. The contact stated while driving 50 mph, a truck pulled into the roadway and struck the contact's vehicle however none of the airbags deploying. In addition, the lane keep assist system did not chime. No one was injured and a police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a local mechanic where it was diagnosed as destroyed. The contact stated no warning lights were illuminated. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 12,000.

On december 18,2020 i was crossing an intersection. I was traveling maybe 5-10 miles an hour through a green light. An automobile struck me perpendicular at 30-40 mph. The impact was almost entirely taken by the drivers door. The speed was according to the driver of the vehicle and witnesses. The car was struck so violently that the tires on the passenger side were scuffed on the sidewall from them rolling under the car. I hit my head on the drivers window from the impact.i was wearing my seatbelt. No airbags deployed, no sidecurtains deployed.it should be noted the airbags deployed on the kia that impacted me.subaru tied my car up for 4 months after i requested they come look at the car to determine if it acted correctly at the time of the accident. They downloaded data from my car and have refused to share it with me. They claim that the impact was oblique.that the airbags were designed not to go off if in fact this happens. They also say that the owners manual states that. I read the owners manual. It says that if the impact is perpendicular the airbags/side curtains should deploy.the car was 3 months old to the day.included are pictures of my car showing the damage. I also sent pictures of how the front tire was bent from the impact.. I have also included the pictures of the kia that impacted my subaru.

The contact owns a 2020 subaru outback. While the vehicle was at an intersection, the contact depressed the accelerator pedal; however, the electronic emergency brake engaged without warning. As a result, the contact's vehicle was rear ended by another vehicle. The air bags did not deploy. There were no injuries. A police report was not filed. The vehicle was taken to subaru of bend (2060 ne hwy 20, bend, or 97701, (541) 389-3031) where it was currently being diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The contact's insurance company began an investigation. The failure mileage was approximately 520.*cw

While driving the car the car's computer/radio/navigation system will randomly shut down.this has been occurring since approx 6500 miles.when this occurs all of the safety systems/hvac/rear camera/radio/navigation systems all will fail with the associated warning lights.the car now has approx 9000 miles, this appears to be random occurrences about every 200-250 miles.dealer states that they are aware of the problem and was told to contact back late june/early july that soa was going to release a software fix.well time has passed and nothing has occurred.when driving this car and the failure occurs all of the safety systems are totally inoperable thus the computerized safety systems are not functional.so, far i have been able to maintain full control of the car.the time for the systems to comeback online is highly variable and sometimes i have to stop, and turn the car off for approximately 10 minutes to have the systems return to being functional.for example, the automated cruise control if in operation will fail to operate, the backup camera will be inoperable, the side space warning will fail, lane assist will fail, and so on for all of the safety systems that this particular car has will all fail.fortunately,i have been able to safely find a safe place to stop, but what happens when this failure occurs and there is not a place to stop/pull over to rest the car/computer.i can't be the only owner/driver that is having this problem(s) they are all interrelated when the master computer shuts down all of the other systems then follow.it is only a matter of time that a potential crash with associated injury and or loss of life can potentially occur.dealer is unable to replicate and therefore unable to repair/replace parts.once this failure can be rectified/corrected this is a wonderful car.at this point, i am unable to determine the cause nor am i able to prevent these failures.

In the last month, twice within 30 seconds of starting the car, the head unit has done a complete reboot, which meant that i had no rear-view camera as i was backing out of a parking space. Since the car was already in motion, it was very distracting as it took about a minute for the unit to reboot. This seems to indicate that there is an electrical problem with the car as many others have noted. Many of the car's controls (such as climate control) are soft buttons displayed on the head unit and cannot be adjusted otherwise. Therefore, it is essential that this unit operate properly and dependably.

I'm curious to know if anyone else has had the problem that i've been having with my car. The car's ccm would occasionally freeze; say apple carplay is unavailable and restart; the ccm would go blank, but still backlit; or just freeze attempt to restart, but not turn back on rendering items in the car useless, like voice control and just everything!! subaru claims that there's nothing wrong and i just have a grievance. I'm not sure how that's the case, when there's video evidence. I have a loaner car from the dealership, and turned off the display (i didn't know that could be done), but the voice control worked in the loaner that was not having a problem as opposed to mine. Please let me know if anyone else has written in with that complaint. Of note, i've been going into the dealership for this problem since october 2020, and i've only owned the car since jul 2020. I had it checked in virginia and oklahoma city. I received a loaner car on thursday, 8 apr 2020, for the problem only after i notified the dealership that i contacted subaru about the problem. I received a text stating that the car was ready, but no response as to what was done. Again, i received the 'software is up to date'. Be aware that when the screen goes blank, you have no control over anything, not even voice control. I did test that while my car was malfunctioning a d also displaying that eyesight and rear assist braking were also not functional. This is a safety hazard, because i was utilizing navigation since i didn't know where i was going at the time. This is not the first time during navigation that this has occurred. Although i received an error message from the car via text on easter sunday, the my subaru app sent an 'all systems functional' for 30 days, but i just had errors a few days prior. It's like the health report is only for that moment in time and not really for 30 days.

Battery problem.there was no risk at this point but having these kinds of battery problems could result in not being able to start your car in unsafe conditions, cold weather, etc.after sitting and listening to siriusxm radio and charging my iphone with the engine off for approximately 10 minutes my car would not start.it cranked a bit and then the display lights all started flashing.other attempts to start resulted in just the lights flickering. I called the service center and was told that leaving the accessories on for more than 5-10 minutes could result in a dead battery.there was no indication of the problem until this happened for the first time. I have a neighbor with an older forester who also has problems with battery draining even while the car is off.

New 2020 subaru outback battery has gone dead. Only 2300 miles on vehicle. Car was last driven on sunday. Would not start on tuesday evening. All electrical systems dead.

Had the car 18 months battery went dead; understand that this is some kind of national issue with subaru batteries draining prematurely

I was driving to the dealer because i had difficulty starting the vehicle because of a low battery. I stopped at a stop light in a busy intersection, and the auto stop-start system shut off the engine. When the light changed to green, i pressed the accelerator and the engine did not restart. I was left with no power, in an unsafe situation, with cars and trucks having to swerve around me. I received roadside assistance to jump-start the vehicle and they drove it to the dealer. I have since learned that the battery had completely failed and will be replaced under warranty. We don't yet know if there are any other electrical issues that contributed to the battery failure.

After battery died 2 times this week and i had to jump start it, i took it to the dealer.they could not find anything wrong with car or battery.they charged the battery and told me to drive it more.the next day (today 7/11/2020) i made a short trip with it and it was fine.several hours later i wanted to use the car again and it would not start until i jumped it. I will be contacting the dealer again on monday.

I picked up my car , drive it home (227 miles) on 11/24/2020. The next morning the battery was dead and i was unable to open the hatchback. We charged the battery, showed fully charged but would not start. Jump started it, drove it 10 miles ( on ok from subaru salesman) theentire time it showed engine light on and emergency brake on ( the brake has been released) and the safety options were disabled. This morning the car would not start again. So far, the inly response from the salesman and service dept is that they have no idea what the problem could be. I was promised they would research the problem and call us, so far haven't heard from them.

Battery failed within 1 month of new car purchase. Technician initially said it was due to rear dome light being left on (did not think this was the case). After repeatedly returning to the car in the mornings to find drained battery, had to purchase back up jumping device to ensure i'd be able to use vehicle daily. The car was brought back to the dealership 2 more times (within weeks of the initial problem) after needing to jump the car to start it. No electrical problem was found and battery was deemed to be "ok" per their test. Then one morning while starting the car, the dash lights started all to flash, an audible clicking noise and hatch motor could be heard trying to open and remained stuck in that mode until the battery died (car never started). Car towed to dealership for 3rd time in a month and battery was deemed "to be defective" from the factory and was replaced in this 2 month old car. No other electrical system problem was diagnosed to explain what repeatedly drained the battery.

My outback was bought new less than 6 months ago and now the car battery will not hold a charge. My car only has about 3,000 miles on it, it's used mostly for city driving. One morning my car was completely dead in our driveway, nothing would turn on, so we jumped the car battery and it worked fine the rest of the day. When the car turned on, no lights were on to indicate that the battery had been drained due to lights being kept on. The next morning the car was completely dead again. We jumped the car again, but after not being used for several hours the car battery was again completely dead. We are taking it to the dealership but it appears there is already a lawsuit against subaru for the same thing happening in other 2016-2020 outbacks.

The contact owns a 2020 subaru outback. The contact stated that when the vehicle was shifted out of park into gear, the driver's and passenger's side rear doors locked while the rear hatch unlocked. The contact stated that with the rear hatch unlocked the dome light made it very difficult to see while driving at night. W&l subaru (535 point township dr, northumberland, pa 17857 (570) 473-3432) was unable to fix the vehicle. The rear hatch mechanism was replaced however, the failure persisted. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 8,900.

Four times in the last 3 months, the car has failed to start and required a jump. I now feel like i can't drive the car alone or to remote places, and i fear degrading the electrical system over time through constant jumping.the dealer has inspected the battery and done a full diagnostic and reports no issues. Their advice is that we're not driving the car often enough to charge the battery. But the last instances have been with a trickle charger, and with long drives on the highway. It seems clear that either the electrical system is draining the battery while the car is off or that the battery isn't charging efficiently while driving.we've checked all the internal lights and other devices that might be draining the battery. We haven't yet done a third party inspection but will do that shortly.

My outback was 2 months old with ~7900 miles on it when it failed to start due to a dead battery. I had last driven the car 2 days prior. I attempted to jump with my other car & could not. Roadside assistance was able to jump start the car. Roadside assistance said it was his 20th subaru of the day! given the class-action lawsuit and the ongoing issues of undersized batteries, i elected to install a larger battery in the car.

My car has 6700 miles and the battery completely died. After having it jump started by csaa, i drove it to subaru. The service manager acknowledged that subaru was having electrical problems with their cars.

When entering the vehicle and attempting to turn it on, the car would not start (november 20, 2020)the car required a jump to get the engine to start.took it into the subaru dealership who tested the battery and said the battery was fine & they charged the battery back up. (november 24, 2020). The following morning (november 25, 2020) the battery was dead again and had to jump the car. Over the following 36 hours anytime i drove somewhere, turned it off, it required a jump to start it again. Today (november 28, 2020) we took the car into the dealership again for analysis. They just put another oem battery back in the car and said they are not sure what the issue is.

On the 21st of december the battery in my outback went dead. I took it into the local dealership and they recharged the battery. When i tried to start the car two days later, the battery was dead again. I have an appointment to take it back to the dealership on the 29th of december. Both times, the car was started 10-12 hours before.

Front windshield cracked halfway across the glass after a pebble kicked up while driving on the highway. The crack spidered out on its own across the entire front windshield within five hours. Camera on windshield now has to be recalibrated otherwise will not function properly.

Infotainment system replaced controlling computer on april 17, 2020 and on july 16, 2020 an update was performed due to system going black

I purchased a new 2020 outback onyx xt in fall 2019.it generally had no issues and ran fine with normal driving (eg driving to work and errands every day or two).fall of 2020 (car around 10,000 miles) the car randomly was fully dead (couldn't unlock doors or start the engine) one morning after having been driven normally one or two days before.i jump started the car, drove it for an hour, and the battery seemingly did not charge - the car died immediately after the car was turned off and it could not be locked/unlocked/started/etc.the car was jump started again and brought to the dealer who diagnosed a faulty battery unit which was replaced under warranty. The car then worked normally until early 2021, when the issue repeated itself - for no apparent reason, the car died, after having worked fine the day or two before (i.e. It wasn't left undriven for an extended period of time).it was jump started, brought into the dealer, and same diagnosis/fix - battery replaced under warranty.one week later, the issue repeated itself.the car was brought in and the dealer did more diagnoses and found that there was an interior light switch that was in an on position (although the light itself was off) - they tried to replicate the issue with leaving the light on causing the car to die overnight.they replaced the battery again under warranty.most recently, around one week later - march 1 2021 - this issue repeated for a fourth time.i was specifically careful that no light switches were ever left on and the car had worked fine the day prior to it having been unable to start, and am awaiting instructions from subaru for next steps.clearly it is not simply a "bad battery" as the dealer has been unable to fix the car (which is under warranty) and make it useable for normal driving.

The battery started failing after less than 8000 miles on the car that is less than a year old. It left us stranded multiple times and jump start was required. Once upon jump starting the car the power steering was not functional. Multiple times the airbag failure indicator stayed on for the entire trip. After the car had sat for about 10 days, when we went to use it and initially we got a lot of bells and chirps going off along with numerous warning/indicator lights. But the starter would not turn over at all. We went back into the house to get the keys for our other vehicle, but decided to try and start the car a second time. This time the battery was completely dead - no instrument lights came on at all.(at the time the car had a little under 3200 miles total miles on it and was a little over 3 months old).i recharged the battery the next for a few hours and then drove it to the dealer the following day. They kept it for a few days but couldn't find anything wrong with the battery or charging system, and no action was taken by them. (note: i had also discovered a small oil leak at that time, which they fixed at that time)i have since discovered that there is a class action suit against subaru regarding battery problems on outback model vehicles.today [5-11-20] when i went to drive to have a blood test taken i noted that the battery was somewhat low (i.e.: the engine turned over slower than normal).

The contact owns a 2020 subaru outback. The contact stated while the vehicle was parked in the garage the contact was unable to start vehicle.the vehicle was previously taken to lafontaine subaru (3055 e west maple rd, commerce charter twp, mi 48390) to be diagnosed however, the mechanic was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 1,800.

Infotainment center screens black out or don't work at all. Dealer has done two updates on two separate occasions.

I left my car parked for 6-7 days and it's completely dead

We purchased our new 2020 outback less than a month ago and have had the battery die 4 separate times already. I have had to jump start to revive. We've taken back to the dealership once and they were unable to diagnose any problem and nothing has been replaced yet.

Window motors don't work properly. Get stuck in the down position or when rolling down will pop back up and down before getting stuck in the down position. I have had one motor on driver side replaced and am now needing the driver side replaced again along with passenger side.

Did not drive car for 2 weeks, battery dead.

1. The backup and front camera are downgraded from previous models of outback.subaru of america denies this. The night visibility is dangerous. The dealership agrees. I have purchased four outbacks in six years and i know what i am talking about. It is totally dangerous at night. Subaru will not tell me if they plan to change the cameras or upgrade the software. Also, the equalizer will not hold its setting every time you get in the car. I am sure this is a software setting as well. To change the setting, you either have to pull off the road or do it while driving which creates a dangerous maneuver.

For 2 weeks in a row, our 2020 subaru (mileage 2,845) failed to start, after not having been driven for 40+ hours, because the battery had drained. In both instances, the car was stationary, parked in our driveway, more or less on level ground.each time we had to call for roadside assistance to charge the battery. Last monday (6/29/2020), we took the car to the dealership where we had purchased the car, autonation hunt valley subaru (cockeysville, maryland). While there, the technician told us, "not that we like to blame the victim, but..." he indicated that we had probably left a door ajar or made some other human error. The dealership service garage tested the battery and it was healthy (please see attached battery and electrical system analysis). We decided to leave the car there for its 6-month servicing, and drove it away that evening, expecting that the issue was resolved. The invoice and full description of the check up service is attached.to our surprise, this morning (07/06/2020) we encountered the very same issue again, and again we had to call up a roadside assistance service to charge the battery for us. At this point, we are unsure how to proceed, and would appreciate any guidance from the nntsa.

My 2020 subaru outback has had to be towed to service a battery that failed to start the car even after is was jumped by aaa and driven for 20 miles.subaru assured me that the battery was simply not properly charged and the car was returned. Then a couple of months later i left my car unproven in my driveway while i was out of town for 2 weeks and my car would not start.i again had it towed to my subaru dealership where subaru ran the same test and told me that they replaced a bad battery.they also told me that when they jump started the car in their shop they discovered that the interior dome light had been left on while i was out of town. The later is inconsistent with my experience as i loaded my subaru forester sitting right beside my outback in the dark before leaving town.had the dome light been left on, i would have noticed the light as i packed my car.in addition their test of this battery later showed this battery to need to be replaced. My safety concern is i cannot trust this car to start.had i driven my 2020 outback to the airport for a 14 day trip rather than my 2020 forester, i would have found myself on the 4th level of the terminal parking lot with a dead battery upon my return.this is the second time that i have had to have this car towed to the subaru dealership to have the battery serviced under warranty.i cannot simply purchase and install a 3rd party battery under warranty.

Vehicle purchased in march. Have been driving less due to covid. Last trip was october 15th for 6 month baby appointment. Found that car wouldn't start and electronics not working on november 26th. Suspect dead battery and read online about outback electronic issues.

I bought my subaru outback in july 2020, itā€™s barely one year but i already had two major problems happened to the vehicle. 1. The transmission was broken, itā€™s confirmed by the dealership and they were able to replace the whole transmission system for me. But this concerns me a lot, from safety perspective, if i wasnā€™t able to identify the issue in early stage it could cause malfunction while iā€™m driving and i always have my daughters in my car. 2. Itā€™s a barely one year car but my battery drained twice. I have to call road side assistant to jump start. I always make sure to shut all my lights and i donā€™t understand why this keep happening. There was one night i have to drive to the grocery store and my battery died within that 20 minutes while iā€™m in the store. I was waiting for road side assistant for 45 minutes while itā€™s getting dark and my kids are home by themselves.

Vehicle dies and has to be jumped every time we start it. Has been ongoing issue since 3/2020, and has been getting progressively worse.

I have had repeated problems with my battery dying. It started slowly, at the beginning of the pandemic, i didn't drive for a couple of weeks. When the service guy came out to jump it, he said that i should can drive it at least once a week.i've been doing that and i'd only occasionally had to jump it. Now with 10 months of ownership and under 6,000 miles, i have to jump it every day. When i took it in, dealership said battery and alternator were fine. If battery is fine, must be electrical. Either way, very unhappy with this defect in my new car.

My car battery has died three consecutive days. Took it to the dealer and they replaced the battery the second day but battery died again overnight.

On october 11, 2020 the car battery died. I got a jump from subaru service on 10/12/20 and brought it to subaru stamford for service. The tailgate open/close switch was stuck in the on position and may have caused the battery to drain. The switch was replaced.on 12/6/20 the car battery died again. I got a jump from subaru service and then drove the car for 20 minutes. One hour later the battery was dead. On 12/7/20 i jumped the battery and took it to subaru stamford for service. The mechanic checked all electrical systems and found no issues. I asked to have the battery replaced which was done.note that these two incidents occurred while i lived at 171 courtland ave, stamford, ct. I am moving permanently to longmont colorado on 12/13/20.

Car will not start. Battery is dead. We drove it monday and it was fine. We did not use lights and made sure everything was off. Today, it would not start. Battery was dead!

2020 & 2021 model subaru outbacks, as well as accents come with a battery that apparently are unable to power the vast electrical components contained within the car made by subaru. Subaru service states the auto has to be continually driven, not just running, for the battery to recharge. They do not give a straight answer and place the issue on the vehicle owner usage habits.

I've had recurring issues with my battery dying. I've reported previous issues on here to show that it is recurring. I don't drive that often because i'm working remotely right now but drove 90 miles in a single trip on friday, jan. 22. On saturday, jan. 23 my vehicle wouldn't start because the battery was dead. I now carry a battery jumper because of previous issues so i jumped the vehicle and drove about 50 miles. On sunday, the vehicle started fine so i drove my 90 mile return trip. The vehicle was not used much but i made sure it would start each day and took a short trip in the middle of the week. Yesterday, february 2, the battery was dead again. Instead of jumping it, i'm going to have it towed to the dealership so they can troubleshoot. They have troubleshooted it twice before and have not been able to find the source of the battery drain. All interior lights are in the off position and i have not used anything but the driver's door which i made sure is closed and locked upon exiting.i have a claim going with subaru consume affairs. This week the lows will be in the negative numbers and i don't think i should have to stand outside and jump my own vehicle in that weather because of a faulty batter/alternator/lemon vehicle.

Battery dead when parked in garage at home.no lights or other systems were left on.had to jump start, drove several miles to recharge.next time tried to start, battery was dead again.this happened 3 or 4 times (eg: 3 or 4 different days), before finally brought to dealership to have battery replaced under warranty.it is at the shop now, so i have no documentation as of yet.moderate weather in the 50s-80s outside, so weather not a factor.car has about 8500 miles on it.i hear this is known problem with subaru outbacks. Glad battery was dead in garage. At home, and i was not stranded somewhere remote, unsafe or in bad weather

I went out this morning 12/26/2020 and the car won't start again. Because of the previous problem on 12/22/20 which i have reported. I made sure everything was closed and locked securely and all lights were off. Prior to the 12/22/20 incident, i had 2 previous incidents since purchasing the car. One previous incident involved a battery drain (i do not remember the date) because the cabin light was left on overnight. The battery drainage prevention function should have kept that from happening but did not. Also, on approx. 9/1/20, i received an email from subaru about a software update. I tried to update the software but the process wouldn't complete for some reason. Within a few hours i received another email saying to disregard the previous one and that there was an issue with the update. The issue left me without any display. I took the vehicle in and had to have the whole radio replaced.

08/02/2020 sunday morning at 4133 miles our brand new 2020 subaru outback that we had for 1 month, would not start from the church parking lot. We had a company jump start us, drove around for an hour and then went home. We parked it at home sunday afternoon where it stayed until 2 days later.8/04/2020 tuesday morning at 8am i went to start it to take my cat to the vet and it would not start. We had to use a a ride service because of time constraints.8/5/2020 wednesday we had the same company come back out and jump startus again. We drove straight to the dealership service. We refused to leave with the car until they did something. They found a parasitic draw replaced the battery. I doubt the underlining issue has been resolved.they replaced a brand new battery at just 4,155 miles on a brand new 2020 subaru outback.

I purchased my 2020 outback in may 2020.in february 2021, i had about 5400 miles on the car when the battery seemed to die.admittedly the temperatures were cold and the car was outside for 48 hours without being driven.i was unable to successfully jumpstart the car when i attempted to do so one week later.the temperature that day was in the upper 20s.i tried again 3 days later when the temperature was about 40.i successfully jumpstarted it that day and i let it idle for 20 minutes.the next morning, it would not start again so i had to jumpstart it once again.this time i idled it for 20 minutes in the morning and 20 minutes in the afternoon (it started without a jump in the afternoon).the next morning it once again required jumpstarting.i let it idle for 20 minutes in the morning and another 20 minutes in the afternoon (once again jumpstarting in the afternoon was not necessary).finally, it started on its own the next morning and i drove it to the dealer who said everything with the battery and the electrical system was fine.there was no evidence of any electrical problem.i am not convinced about this in light of problems with 2017-2019 outback battery failures.

Parked the car at lakeside park and went for a hike. Returned 2 hours later and the car would not start. No lights or doors were left open. Finally called roadside assistance and they were able to jump start the car. There was no reason the battery should have been dead

While interacting with the rear of the car while it was parked and shut off, i had accidently triggered the "hands-free power rear gate" feature and the gate began to open. Rather than wait for the tail gate to fully open, i gently pushed the rear tail gate against the automatic opening back into the closed position. At this point, the car beeped at me three times and the rear tail gate would no longer latch itself closed, even when closed manually. I was forced to drive the vehicle with the tail gate unsecured, it would open itself while driving because the latch would not engage and hold it closed.

After owning my 2020 subaru outback for just over a month with 1700 miles on it i've had to jump start my car now 6 times. I work 7 miles from home and drive a lot of short trips. I see subaru has a electrical issue with the battery going dead with my name concern i work for a dealer that has the subaru dealer and i will call them tomorrow to find out what they will do besides just replace my battery. Today i had to jump to drive to work. Jump to go out at lunch. Jump to leave work and when i got home i tried to restart and it didn't start again so i know what i will be doing in the morning.

Auto is mainly garaged since purchase 1-1/2 years ago. Battery went totally dead and car became inoperable in 2020 after non-use for approx. 4 weeks, requiring lengthy re-charge. Subaru checkup showed no malfunction, according to company. This month (aug, 2021) battery again went totally dead, this time after non-use for approx. Just 2-3 weeks, again requiring lengthy re-charge. This renders auto unusable for any form of travel when car must sit unused, perhaps in a garage or parking area, without possibility to periodically run car to maintain battery charge.

Our car would not start. Lots of clicking and lights on the dash. It was parked in the garage and was driven the day before. Car has around 900 miles on it. I ordered a 1.5 amp charger/maintainer online. Aaa came the following day, diagnosed it as a low charge on the battery and jump started it. I let it sit for 1 hour. Battery charger/maintainer arrived and it has been charging all night and all this morning. I researched online and found out this battery has been an issue with subaru since 2017 and a service bulletin was put out. See link:https://www.torquenews.com/1084/subaru-hit-new-lawsuit-over-outback-wagon-dead-battery-issue?page=2we researched more on the internet and now need to make sure we take extra precautions as to how far we drive, where we drive to etc.

Took car to dealership 4/21/21, they removed battery charged it and tested it, stated battery was good. Today, 4/27/21, tried to take car out and it won't start.

I attempted to start the car in the morning and the battery was too weak. I charged the battery and let the car run 15 minutes. Four days later, when i attempted to start the car, the battery was too weak again. I found reference to this as an issue possibly known to subaru of america with recommendation to report to nhtsa.

Vehicle has had multiple documented incidents of the infotainment system crashing or going dark and being unresponsive. Today during another episode the vehicles adaptive cruise control could not be turned off. The vehicle would not come out of cruise and continued to drive at speed. Placed vehicle in neutral while on the highway to restart the engine and electrical system. The entirety of electrical controls were unresponsive. The infotainment crashing and becoming inoperable are a relatively common experience, but this is the first time we experienced loss of vehicle control.

The battery was drained on our new outback 2020 after only 10,000 miles. Had to have it replaced already. I read today that there is a lawsuit against subaru in new jersey where i bought my vehicleand its on my model and year for this exact problem with the battery getting drained. The first time it occurred the vehicle was stationary. When i returned, it would not turn on. Had to give it a jump and when it happened again i called my nearest subaru dealer and took it in, and had it replaced.

On tuesday 12/22/20 at approx 3 pm i got in my car to run an errand and it wouldn't start. I had moved it the evening before from the street to the driveway. I did not open anything but the drivers side door and locked it when i exited the vehicle. I had not used the lift gate in the last few days and all doors were closed. I had not turned on any interior light either or headlights. I had it jumped the next morning and it started.

On 3 occasions the car would not start after being driven.the dashboard lit up, radio worked, but no starter or engine noise.subaru says there is nothing wrong with the car or battery.this appears to be a common subaru problem.

Battery repeatedly dies after very short periods of time, no lights left on or doors left open. Vehicle battery has died a total of 4 times in 7 months when left overnight.

New subaru outback only has 3800 miles on it. Drove it yesterday.this morning, tried to start the stationary car and the battery was completely dead. Needed to jump the car.

Electrical issues, flickering interiorand exterior lights, unable to unlock/ lock doors.car won't start, dead battery

The 2020 outback has died 3 times in less than 5 weeks (once at the dealership). After the second time (at the dealership) the battery was replaced. Three days later the new battery is dead.

Car won't start. First time this happened was at 4000 miles. Changed position of shift lever to n and p until able to get started. Went to dealer to have battery checked but they said it was ok. Now at 6000 miles completely dead in garage. Car had not been driven for 3 or 4 days. Having it towed to dealer.

Need imo she scheme

Battery drained when vehicle parked without any lights or other electric load causing dead battery.this happened 2x, first time was on the 3rd day of brand new car ownership. 2nd time 6 months later.no-start condition leaves women primary driver in a vulnerable position of being stranded while away from home. Apparently there may be a class action lawsuit pending for similar failures to other subaru owners.

We bought our 2020 subaru outback on 12/16/19.did a road trip for 800 miles in jan-2020 with no problems. The car currently only has 2,100 miles on it.on may 1st we went to start the car after it sat for a week or so and the battery was completely dead to where we had to use our emergency manual key to open the door.we had to jump it for quite awhile before it got enough of a charge to start.we took it on an hour drive to try and get the battery recharged.monday may 4th we tried to start the car and it was dead again, jumped it and took it to the subaru dealer.the dealer checked the electrical system and recharged the battery.i picked it up on tuesday the 5th and they said they couldn't find anything wrong.wednesday morning the car battery was dead again.friday we had to jump it to drive it to the dealer.when we got home the dealer called to say that our car that we just left wouldn't start and they had to jump it.they are going to check it out on monday and let us know what they find out.

On march 1, 2021 vehicle had 4992 miles on it and vehicle would not start. Had to call roadside assistance and have vehicle jumped. Took to dealer, they said battery, alternator and starter, tested good. On march 17th, vehicle had to be jump started. On march 18th, vehicle had to be jump started twice in the same day. On march 19th, vehicle had to be jump started and taken to dealer. Vehicle now has 5192 miles. On march 19, 2021, a case was opened with subaru of america.

I just purchased a 2020 subaru outback ltd and while driving the entire infocenter went blank, and all safety features was disengaged. The screen remained blank for approx 10 seconds before rebooting. I called suabru america and was informned that there is a clitch in the program that they have been attempting to fix unsuccessfully. I bought this car due to its safety features. Shouldn't i have been informed of this potential computer crash that affects the safety of myself and my passengers, which includes my 85 year old mother?

Battery was replaced after 5,549 miles. Vehicle was parked for 4-5 days prior to 07/08/2020 and need to be jumped dealer could not find problem. Vehicle was again parked for 4-5 days prior to 10/09/2020 again the battery was dead& was unable to use fob to unlock car etc, jumped started contacted subaru about problem

After driving the car, parking, and turning the car off for a short time, the car will not start.the battery is dead and has to get jump started.something drains the battery.this occurs randomly, bur has happened to me 3 times, twice at around 7,000 miles and once at 8,800 miles.after the second time it happened , the dealer looked at it and said the rear dome light was left on.while i never used the rear dome light, i accepted the explanation.however, with this latest occurrence , i am certain that no lights were left on.i will take the car to the dealership to see if they can determine the problem.i am concerned because i cannot depend on this car to start whenever i go to drive it

We just bought this car. Used, less than 7k miles. I haven't even made a payment yet.my wife called me from the turn lane of a busy intersection with hundreds of cars speeding past.she was driving and stopped to turn left at a red light. When she went to go, the car turned off and would not start - although it appeared there was power; radio, lights, all working.a police officer and a passer-by pushed her into a parking lot after 20 minutes.when i arrived, it appeared the battery was not cranking the starter. I had her get jumper cables and yes, it started right up. No indication that the battery was having issues, no warning lights.i turned the auto stop-start off while i drove it to the dealership who couldn't even talk to me because they were to busy. Fortunately, it started up and made it home. Took my son to his baseball game and after sitting for 3 hours, would not start, got a jump.took it home, let it run a bit, in the morning, would not start.the internet is full of people complaining about subaru and this exact issue. This sould not be happening in basically a new car.

The battery keeps dying. Subaru tested the battery it's fine.told me to get a battery tender or to drive for an hour or so every couple of days for the alternator to charge up. In less than a week the car battery had to be jumped 5 times. Started 4/15/2021 thru today 4/21/2021.

My 2020 subaru outback was parked in my home garage from about noon on tuesday until i tried to go at about 4 pm the next sunday. The car would not start and there was no clear reason why. I called for road side service and made arrangements for them to come monday morning to try a jump start and tow it into the dealer if needed. At that point, i had the car for 3 weeks and it had 2 mines on it. Monday morning i called the dealer to let them know of the problem. They suggested that i was not driving it enough and maybe i should get a battery tender to keep this from happening. I was not at all pleased with their suggestion and do not plan on following their advice. I did some additional research on the internet and found that this is a well known problem that subaru and their dealers are unwilling to resolve. And, it seems that its not just the battery but several car components keep running after the car is shut off and that would run down any battery that is in the car. I need reliable transportation and this new car is not able to provide that.

On approx. 8/22/20 i received an email or text from subaru or starlink, i don't remember, about a software update. I tried to update the software but the process wouldn't complete for some reason. Within a few hours i received another email saying to disregard the previous one and that there was an issue with the update. The issue left me without any display. I took the vehicle in and had to have the whole radio replaced. The vehicle was parked in my driveway.

When apple carplay is being used, the multimedia display has frozen several times and when it freezes, the resets itself to a black screen. Once it resets to a black screen, the eyesight is disabled and rab (reverse automatic braking) is disabled. I have had a moment where the screen was completely black and both things were disabled for over 15 minutes while i was driving. Until the moment i turned off the car did it stop showing the issue but this wasn't the first instance of it happening. The moment i do need the eyesight would be too late since it's disabled. I've recorded several videos of this happening and i've taken it to the dealership but they tell me nothing can be done since they can't duplicate the issue and that the video recording is "hypothetical."i've uploaded some of the videos i've recorded onto youtube for you to check and verify.https://www.youtube.com/channel/ucna9z1x9itggupuo_al_blg

Purchased car from dealership, parked 10 hours, battery dead.

I bought my 2020 subaru outback with 300 miles and currently only have 4000 miles in it and my car won't start i even got it serviced 2 weeks ago. It was sitting in my driveway as usual for a night and the next day it wouldn't start.

My 2020 subaru outback is just over a year old and has just over 15,000 miles on it. In the last month, the battery has died 4 times causing me to be stranded. The cause of the battery dying is very minor electrical usage when the car is off, resulting in the car not starting.

Continual battery problems. Had to jump at least 4 times in less than a year after buying the car new. Finally wouldn't take a jump and dropped off the car at the dealer where i bought the 2020 subaru. They said there were known battery problems but i needed to drive the car at least every 2 days to keep the battery operational. The solution was a new battery and an ecm update.

5 months after purchasing this new vehicle, the battery has died three times. On two occasionit was sitting in my garage having been driven a short distance within the past 72 hrs. On one occasions it was dead 48 hrs after being jumped and drive. Today it was jumped again and driven to maita subaru in sacramento, ca. After waiting for 15 minutes in the service driveway, waiting to be served, the car battery was found to be dead by service techs.

Battery is inadequate for the electronics in this car and will be dead if not driven often.after being a unable to start my car twice within a month, the service manager admitted this was a design flaw, there is no other upgrade or replacement for the battery and that the factory recommendation is to drive the car every other day.this means that when i travel and leave my car in an airport parking lot for a week or more, i will not be able to start the car when i return.the service manager told me to disconnect the negative post at the airport, then reconnect the post when i return.i am a 65-year old woman and not a mechanic.this car is unreliable and is a safety risk for me when i return to a parking lot late at night and my vehicle will not start.it has less than 5,000 miles.

With slightly more than 1300 miles on the odometer, and after the car was sitting for about a week, the battery was drained so that nothing appeared on the screens, the rear gate would not function, and no green light appeared to show that the car was ready to start.when the ignition button was pressed, nothing happened.using a brand new 5 amp battery charger, after 20 hours it shows the battery to be only 25% charged.

Car had been running fine since purchased new in aug 2020.i had a normal 6 month service appointment for monday feb 8, 2021.on sunday feb 7, 2021 car wouldn't start.i called roadside assistance and they came to my home and used a battery starter to jump start the car.i let the car run for 30 minutes to charge the battery.the next day the car started fine so i went to the dealership for the scheduled service appointment.i asked them to check the battery because the car had to be jump started the day before.when the service was complete i was told that the battery checked out fine. Refer to item #5 on attached service report.i drove the car home.on wednesday feb 10, 2021 i tried to start the car but it wouldn't start.roadside assistance came to my home and jump started the car.i drove the car to the dealership to have the service department look for a problem.the drive to the dealership took about 45 minutes.when i got to the dealership i turned the car off and, with the service advisor standing next to the car, tried to start the car.the car wouldn't start.i've since look inline for similar complaints and have found that lawsuits have been filed against subaru regarding similar complaints.see page #1 of attached magazine article.

Purchased the car friday 06/18/2021, battery was dead two days later on 06/18/2021, flemington subaru replaced the battery on 06/19/2021.

The battery is nearly always dead at startup and i have to jump it with a battery starter.the dealer had said there is nothing wrong with the battery on multiple occasions, yet i have to jump the car in grocery store parking lots.the car only has 5300 miles on it, as we don't drive that much.

In the first year of ownership of my 2020 subaru outback, i have experienced many glitches in the operation of the electronica safety devices. The latest has been returning to the car and finding the battery fully discharged despite nothing being left in the ā“on positionā“. Yesterday, after fully charging the battery, four hours later the battery was found to be fully drained. I boosted the car and began to drive it when at the first traffic light the auto-start-stop feature shut the car off and i could not re-startin the middle of an intersection.

We bought this car. 06/25/2020 and in the first four days the car needed to be jumped three times . The dealership had us bring it in and gave us a new battery . So far everything is working well .this happened in the mornings after sitting the night

Our 2020 subaru outback, with fewer than 800 miles, failed to start four times (6/1, 7/1, 7/10, & 7/13). During these incidents, interior and exterior lights flashed, the dashboard produced a clicking sound, the doors would not lock, and the tailgate became inoperative. Roadside assistance successfully jump-started the car each time and took it to two different dealers for diagnostic testing -- one in seattle and one in tacoma. Two roadside assistance service providers said their most frequent service calls requiring a jump-start were for "late model subarus. One service technician said he received more than 100 such requests during the past three months. The tacoma dealer filed am urfca report with subaru headquarters after the third incident. During the fourth incident, the battery failed while the vehicle was at the tacoma dealer, who replaced the battery on july 13, 2020. After recharging the battery, it took a few days of being parked before the battery failed. During this last incident, i intentionally left the vehicle with the dealer over a weekend, which was long enough for the recently charged battery to drain enough to fail to start the car.when i picked up the car, the service advisor told me these cars need to be driven at least 30 minutes per trip to sufficiently recharge the battery. We've owned five subaru outbacks, and have not received this advice before, nor did the dealer's sales representative call this to our attention when we purchased the 2020 outback. Our lifestyle, coupled with the covid-19 virus, only requires one or two trips per month lasting more than 30 minutes. The car sits in the garage for two to three days without being started. We always lock the vehicle, turn off all lights, close the tailgate, and keep the key fob in the house, which is more than 500 feet from the detached garage.

I have less than 100 miles on my 2020 subaru outback and am having serious battery issues. I had driven the vehicle on a friday and then went to start it on the following monday and the battery was dead. I called out the subaru starlink roadside assistance to get the battery jump-started, which they did and i let the car run for an additional ten or so minutes to help it to continue recharging. That evening i attempted to start the vehicle to park in the garage for the evening and the battery was dead, again. I need to get the battery restarted, again, but i am worried that this will continue happening (chronic). Do i take it 50 miles to the nearest dealership to replace the battery, only to have the replacement battery do the same thing? or do i replace the battery with another vendor?

Battery is dead. Car was parked in my garage and not used for several days. When i tried to start it on wed april 14, 2021 the battery was dead. No lights has been left on. All doors were closed when car not in use.

Problem with a dead battery on a carless than 1 year old

Car in garage overnight and all day. Went to start car and battery was completely dead. No lights were left on.

Vehicle would not start. Lights were flashing and giving systems not working. Headlights flashed continuously. It was in the garage but couldn't get tailgate open. Turned out issue was battery for the ignition. Subaru emergency arranged towing and told me they would bring it back to me. Then when i requested they said it would be $168 to bring it back. It is a week old and 335 miles on it and they were going to charge me to return it to me.

The main control module goes completely blank while driving, eventually rebooting itself.just recently i have documented blanking on april 9th, may 1, may 9, may 30, and june 13.one instance of the voice for navigation going silent on may 14 also occurred.the module was replaced today and on the way home from the dealership, it went blank again.

The outback had a complete loss of power, cause still not identified.in the process of attempting to get to my portable power unit i discovered a significant safety concern that could result in the death of any rear seat passengers.if there is no electrical power there is no means of unlocking the rear passenger doors. The mechanical door handles do not work. I checked the child safety locks and they were not engaged. In the event of an accident/ front end collision that damaged the battery the occupants of the rear seats are trapped.if they needed to vacate the car for any reason they could not. Parents can not get to their children.please investigate and make subaru modify the back doos so the mechanical handle will operate when there is nor electrical power.

Car windshield had ice obscuring part of the eyesight system on startup.warning indicators lit up informing me that the eyesight system was disabled.concurrent with this fault, the failure of the eyesight system would not allow me to release the electronic parking brake leaving me stranded in the snow.

Our seven month old 2020 outback battery has died three times. Our latest dead battery revealed extremely concerning statistics according to our aaa service technician.

The vehicle was purchased new in september 2020. It is now 10 months old. I drove the car twice yesterday. Today i went out to the vehicle and the battery/electrical system was completely dead. No interior lights, no response to the fob. Other than the two drives, i programmed the pin entry system, last night. The vehicle has been garaged since new and was in the garage since driven yesterday.

I have owned my 2020 subaru outback for only 2 months. My car will now not start. After jumping the vehicle/ charging the battery, it will start again and then shut back off. There appears to be an electrical issue that is causing my battery to drain very rapidly. Changing the battery does not fix the problem. Fixing the electrical issue is the only solution. Subaru has this problem with outbacks and ascents from 2017 to 2020 and needs to issue a recall.

My battery has died multiple times this summer, most often when the rear liftgate is open. I have 17,000 miles on this car and would expect the battery to last longer.

Bought my car in march 2020, brand new 2020 outback xt onyx edition 2.4 turbo, in two month battery start dying after 2-3 days car parked, today july 12 2020 its dead every time i try to start a car, use booster starter to start the car.

There has been an ongoing problem with the vehicle electronics the dealer has reprogrammed the electronic controls 4 times in the year since i bought the car. The last reprogramming was due to a nhtsa recall. The system was better for a couple of months since the last reprogramming but on monday 4/19/21 at 5:58 pm the same problem reoccurred the electronic screen in the middle of the dash went black as i was driving at 65 mph southbound on i-95 in baltimore maryland. The screen and all it functions were off for 4 minutes until it restarted with the initial screen that appears when i start the car. It is a warning screen with a green area to press that i agree with the warning. For 4 minutes i was driving with no access to the controls that are under the direction fo the main screen.the dealer had told me i should take a video of the dash if this happened again but it is hard to take a video while driving in the express lanes at 65 mph. This is a serious problem that after all these reprogramming activities should have been fixed. When the dealer had installed the revised programing i asked what to do if the same thing happened again and he suggested that i take a video then told me that it won't happen again. Well it did happen again. I imagine i am not the only person to find this reoccurring but i can't be sure of that. It is most disconcerting to think that all of the safety controls that i purchased the vehicle to obtain are out of use for 4 minutes as i am driving on the highway. I had the radio on while driving and suddenly it went off i looked down at the screen and it was black completely off. I assume that all of the safety functions the screen controls also were off.it stayed that way for 4 minutes and then restarted as if i had just started the car in my driveway. I don't know what to do but i believe that this is a safety issue that keeps recurring.

With in the first few months of ownership it would not start. I used roadside assistance to get a jump. A couple of moths later same thing. Same driver from road side assistance jump started me and stated, " all i have been doing lately is jumping subarus". It soon died again, the dealership tested battery and found it defective and had to wait for a new "stronger" battery. 4 days later i get it back. It was still under warranty.

My radar detector rereads battery voltage and when u was driving down the highway, i noticed the battery voltage dropped from 14.4v to 12v when ever the accelerator pedal was depressed. Turning on the headlights, wipers or heater while depressing the accelerator will cause to voltage to go back to 14.4v. I do have videos showing this issue. I noticed a lot of people on line that do a lot of city driving are complaining about dead batteries. My results shows that the charging system has an issue, since the battery voltage should never go to 12v with the engine running. The video was taken with my celll phone with the extension of .mov and therefore i can't upload it using this app.

My car battery failed in september then again in october. I wasn't quite sure what the issue was but it didn't seem to be back:back. Then at the end of february- 5 days in a row i had to have my battery jumped. Dealer saw it and claimed it was a dead battery and only needed charging. At the end of march (today), the car's battery failed again. I reported the issue to subaru. They said they would do an analysis on the battery. A towing service came to jump my car. At all times, without a jump the car will not turnover. I also noticed- maybe related maybe not- the car's calculation for mileage is all over the place. Specifically, within 30 seconds it can go from 3 mpg, 55 mpg, 7 then several hundred; it makes no sense.*dt

I bought a 2020 subaru outback xt in march.it was the last special order from auto nation before they shut down for covid.i drove it very little as we were basically home bound and then for shopping, golf and meetings.it is now november and i have under two thousand miles driven.the car went completely dead on september 17th and now again on november 10th. It died both times inside my garage andthe front drivers door was the only thing to open.it did jump and work in between those dates.i am now reading about all the class action law suits and battery and electrical problems with the outback. Subaru suggested that i needed to drive my car every day to keep this from happening.that is a ludicrous idea and something i have never had to do with any other car i have owned.i have a cvt 2.4 engine with a turbo.every time the battery dies all the loaded information like bluetooth, etc. Is also gone.

On may 27, 2021, my 2020 outback would not start after driving approx. 20-25 min. And being shut off approx. 15-20 min. I called my dealer, they sent technician & loaner car. He was able to start the car with a battery booster after trying several other things. My husband & i drove directly to the dealer, approx. 30 min., to have battery checked out. They did a battery and electrical system analysis which came back with a "good battery". The next 2days, no problems. On may 30, 2021, the car would not start 2 different times at our home. My husband used the battery booster both times to start. On june 1, 2021 i sched. An appt. For 6/2 with dealer to find problem. I checked in at 12:53, out at 4:15. It took 3 hrs. 22 min. To decide that the battery had failed and replaced.

Batter is dead after 10 months, 7500 miles. Seems as if there is something faulty with the electrical system that is pulling power off of the battery when the car is off. I've gone out to the car 5 times now over the past few months to a dead battery. Progressively it's gotten worse with two of the times being just this week. This is consistent with what i'm reading about previous year models as well. Seems like they have an electrical bug that they're not addressing year over year.

I have had to call subaru roadside assistance at least five occasions. Randomly on occasion, when i go out to use my car, i find my vehicle locked with the battery drained. Everytime it happens the dealer gives me a loaner vehicle while they try to troubleshoot the problem. Every time they say they cannot not find a power drain. The service department then said that i must have bumped the rear dome light and that drained the battery. I am pretty sure i did not bump the light so this last time i taped that dome switch with clear tape so that could not move. This morning 12/15/21 my started fine. I drove more than 50 miles to the va hospital in tampa. I stopped my car a line for a pre-op covid check. I turned the car off 5-10 minutes and when the line of cars moved again and i went to crank the car up again, it would not start. I got out and called subaru roadside assistance and got locked out. I used my hidden key in the fab. Subaru brought a gallon of gas which was not the solution and then he told me to try to start the vehicle. He said the battery was drained (which is strange because had just drove fifty miles to th location and the alternator should be keeping the battery full). He theconnecteda battery power pack jumper and successfully jumped the car. I have faithfully waited and been patient with cannon subaru explanations and reasons to no avail. I explained to a sales representative that my 2020 subaru outback limited is a lemon and i want to exchange it for a new car (under the lemon law) or get my money refunded (i paid almost $37,000 cash for the vehicle). I was given subaru of america's phone number 1(800)782-2783, and was told to contact them for a resolution. I was given a case number(1-7056862051) and was told a case manager would call me in an hour or two, which is yet to happen. I purchased my vehicle on june 22, 2020 and i am filing this complaint form to protect my rights under the lemon law, andthe nhtsa. This about the fifth incident.

After not being used for 10 days the battery was completely drained on july 3, 2020.towed to the dealer on july 5 problem could not be diagnosed, charged battery returned car july 9, 2020.car sat not used until july 18 and same dead battery issued recurred.

I have had the car for only three months, and the engine has failed to start >5 times, while stationary. I have had to get several jump starts, and the battery will run again for a few days or weeks before seeming to die again. I took the car to an autoshop and they said the battery seemed fine to them, but the car continues to have failures with starting the engine. I have had safety features dysfunction while i was driving, and one of them led to an accident while driving on the highway. I have been stranded a few times, and lost hours from my job.

The contact owns a 2020 subaru outback. The contact stated that the doors failed to open with the key fob. The contact noticed that the battery was drained. The contact called don miller subaru west (5822 odana rd, madison, wi 53719; (608) 442-3200) and was informed to start the vehicle more frequently so that the battery would recharge. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 2,000. The vin was invalid.

After the car sits for 1 to 2 days without being driven the battery is completely drained.after recharging the battery and getting the car started there has been nothing left on (i.e. Dome lights) or opened (i.e door ajar) which would have created a slow drain on the battery.this has happened 3 times since jan 2021

We bought the car new and the battery has fully drained three times since the purchase a month ago.we took it in to be evaluated and were told the battery was fine.we now have had to jumpstart this car three times and it has less than 200 miles on it.

I had my car for a week and it completely died. Brand new car and the battery drained. Called the dealership and they told me if i don't drive it for 7 days it is not uncommon for this to occur. The car has less than 70 miles on it and completely died. The car was stationary in a parking garage.

Experiencing a dead battery.3rd time this month.vehicle only has 7090 miles on it,once jumped lasts a week or 2 and then repeats problem.dealer just says to call roadside assistance.

Battery drain, seems to be undiagnosable. Quick google search show lawsuits regarding this issue.

Dead battery, less than 14,000 miles on the car, 14 months since purchase; car is kept in a heated garage and therefore not subjected to temperature extremes

The contact owns a 2020 subaru outback. The contact stated that upon approaching his driveway, the contact had depressed the brake pedal and completely stopped his vehicle. The stop start feature activated automatically and the contact exited the vehicle to check his mailbox. Upon retrieving his mail, the contact turned around to enter his vehicle and the vehicle was gone. Upon looking for his vehicle, the contact discovered that the vehicle had independently driven 280 feet and had collided into a tree. The air bags deployed upon impact. The sheriff's department was notified butno police report was filed due to the accident happening on private property. No injuries were reported as a result of the failure. Due to the accident, the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it remained in their possession. The dealer nor the manufacturer have yet to be notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 294.

I purchased this vehicle in february, 2020. After driving it less than 1500 miles, the battery died, requiring a jump start. Less than 2 weeks later, and having been driven almost daily, it went dead again. This is a known problem that subaru has to address. When i spoke with the service department at carlsen subaru, redwood city, ca, they claimed to know nothing about it. They offered to inspect the car, but would only replace the battery with another, equivalent battery.

Car wouldn't start, dead battery requiring 4 jumps by 9-10 months after purchasing new. Resulted in multiple strandings. No known reason for recurrent dead battery.

Battery died and did not respond to a jump.had been driven maybe 2 or 3 days a week for short distances (20 miles rt) due to quarantine.dealership has not been helpful in resolving the issue, despite the warranty on the battery.

My 2020 outback which is only 5 months old had the battery drain on two separate occasions.both times i had to jump the car in order for it to start.this only seems to happen when the car sits for more than three days.if i drive the car every day, there does not seem to be a problem.i brought the car to the subaru dealer to be checked out and they said 'what do you want me to do, i did not make the car'.this is a totally unacceptable problem.what good is a brand new car that cannot sit three days without a jump start.

With only 170 miles on the odometer, i went to start my outback and it would not start. Had roadside assistance come and jump the car, which resulted in the car starting. I then parked it in my garage overnight. When i went to start it in the morning, the battery was completely dead and i could not even unlock the doors with the remote. I drink 10 miles round trip on an average day to/from work and had the car for a total of 4 days before this happened.

My 2020 subaru outback is less than one year old and has less than 10,000 miles. The battery has been dead two times in the past month. Both times the car was garaged and nothing was left on to drain the battery

My 2020 subaru outback is equipped with the ā“auto-start-stop ā“feature. From the beginning this feature would routinely not function, displaying the icon indicating auto start stop was disengaged. When attempting to utilize this feature i learn two more deliberately hold down firmly on the brake pedal and i could engage this feature at times. Nine times out of 10 the auto start stop feature does not engage when i stop in drive with my foot on the break at a traffic light or at a stop sign. Very often, the feature turns off my engine and immediately restarts with a rumbling of the engine and an abrupt ā“kickā“ to the steering wheel. Even when the feature engages and shuts off the engine as expected, the duration of stop mode is a limited to no more than 20 seconds which defeats the original intended purpose of fuel consumption and emissions reduction.occasionally at a traffic light, such as when waiting to make a left in front of oncoming traffic, the feature does not engage at first stop and after inching forward and ready to make the turn this feature well abruptly stall the engine and strand me momentarily in front of oncoming traffic.

The battery suddenly drained. This happened a few days after i had a trip of over 750 miles. I did a jump start and then drove the car for over 20 minutes. The next day the same thing. Took it to subaru service, they checked the car and could not find a problem just charged it. The next time again the same problem. This time subaru service kept the car overnight and then changed the battery. Its a few months now but i always have this lingering feeling that it might happen again, specially reading the news reports of this happening after some time.

After leaving this car in an airport parking lot for 4 weeks, it would not start. I also noticed that all of the doors except the hatchback were unlocked. I coincidentally had a jumper battery unit in the car and was able to start it with the external battery jumper. When i drove the car the 30 minutes to my home, i found that the battery had not charged at all. This meant that until subaru fixed this on warranty, i could drive the car but would have to raise the hood, hook up the external jumper unit, start the car, disconnect the jumpers, close the hood and finally drive where i was going. This procedure grows old after doing it repeatedly to shop for supplies after being away for 4 weeks. The subaru dealer fit me in the following day and confirmed the battery had been destroyed by the car sitting unused for 4 weeks. He recommended that i always leave a small charger on it whenever it will not be used for 2 weeks or more! that would have been impossible at the airport parking lot. I have taken this car on very many severe backcountry drives where failure to start when it's time to leave could be problematic or even fatal. Whatever is the problem should be fixed. If the new battery will fail the same way, it should be replaced with a battery that won't, on warranty. If it's the charging system that's at fault, then the faulty design should be corrected.

The car has a faulty electronic system that controls the stability and the adaptive cruise control. Transmission also needs replacement. Problems happen at high speed on freeways. Documented the problem with various youtube footage as follows:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oxojdp_t9lihttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=77wurjdtvzkhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lgql63ldqvi&t=10shttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0acrlyxyhqi&t=11s

3 times in the past month, my battery has been dead for no reason. My car only has 3800 miles. My car was parked in my garage.

Our 2020 subaru outback has less than 14,000 miles.in the last month the battery has failed 4 times.the last time we had subaru tow come out and give it a charge.it seemed to work but when we took it out upon returning it failed again.we again had subaru come out and charge it and we drove it to the dealer.the dealer had it wednesday afternoon through friday.(6/9/21 - 6/11/21). The notes from the dealer said, "upon inspection of the vehicle technician did not require a jump start to turn vehicle engine on.tech performed a battery diagnostic test using the subaru gr8 battery machine.diagnostic battery results came back as a good battery.vehicle battery was deeply discharged and required re-charging. Vehicle battery is operating as designed after performing service.no repairs or additional services required."today, sunday, won't start again.yes, it is available for inspection.it hasn't been a risk at this point but certainly could be one.

My car is less than 1 year old and only has 3200 miles.the battery has died twice in that time and needed to be jumped. Last time was feb 23 2021

The battery died with only about 6500 miles on the car. The car was last driven 48 hour ago. Nothing was left on. The vehicle was in a warm garage since it was last driven.

Battery goes dead when don't drive it weekly. Purchased new from dealer in june 2020. Have had aaa out twice to jump the battery. Have been told by aaa and dealership to drive the car or start it and let it run for 30 minutes every couple of days to keep battery charged because electronics drain the battery. Car was in garage.

Battery died after leaving unused for just 9 days. Occasionally starter button does not work, retry and it starts.

Battery died at only 10months old. Left stranded for over 4 hours in remote area since we were camping when it happened. Nothing had been left on in the vehicle. Was able to eventually get a jump start and get vehicle to dealer for check. They found battery deeply discharged and recharged but battery died again 2 weeks later. Battery replaced that time. Fear this could happen while driving if i forget to turn off the auto stop/start system or even cause the car to stall while driving and result in loss of braking or control.

Bought the vehicle brand new and woke up the next day to it not starting. The car was sold to us with a bad battery and missing parts according to the dealership. Almost exactly a year later our transmission blew for no apparent reason while getting off the highway and completely stopped running. Now the vehicle has a cracked windshield when no rocks or anything has hit it.

The car only has 7500 miles on it, the battery has gone dead 3x, with the third time not possible to jump start. I had to have it towed to subaru dealer, they replaced battery with another subaru battery. From what i have read this one will likely go dead also.there has to be a better solution.

Car driven regularly 6 days a week. Battery completely drained overnight and needed replacement.

Electrical issues started august 15, 2020 when car would not start. Requested jump without positive results and after sitting for 3 hours in a parking lot, it started. Took to dealership and they found nothing wrong. Fast forward to 2021, driving on interstate at 65mph and again at 70mph when radio turns off by itself, then front driver monitoring system light comes on, the side collision prevention light comes on, the rab light comes on and another warning light that i was unable to catch. Lasts a few seconds then goes off. The next morning after the car sat for approximately 16 hours, it would not start. Dealership stated it was the battery and replaced battery on may 6, 2021. It sat at dealership 2 days and would not start when went to pick it up. They stated dome light left on, charged battery and gave it back to me. Third time when warning lights came on, took in and they stated they couldnā€™t find anything thus couldnā€™t fix something they couldnā€™t find and gave it back to me (may 19, 2021). Now on may 28, 2021 same issue, dead in driveway. Car has 22,285 miles on it.

Battery dies. The car is little over 1 year old, the battery died and it had to be towed september 2020, dealer charged it up, the battery died again in january 2021 and dealer replaced with a new battery. The control panel has gone "black" several times no status shows.

Poor rear camera visibility, leading me to nearly hit gas pumps

The contact owns a 2020 subaru outback. The contact stated that while driving 65 mph, the contact heard a minor ding on the windshield. The ding was a small pebble that hit the windshield which caused a crack to form from the driverā€™s side to the passengerā€™s side of the windshield. The crack obstructed his vision while driving. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer and the windshield was replaced out of pocket. Eight months later, the same failure occurred again while driving, at the exact spot on the replacement windshield. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and denied knowing any information about failures with windshields in similar vehicles. The contact also stated that several electrical failures had occurred in the vehicle such as the infotainment screen and eyesight system not operating as designed. The contact made an appointment with the same dealer however, the vehicle was not yet repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 2,000.

The contact owns a 2020 subaru outback. The contact stated that the battery failed. The contact stated that after the vehicle was driven for over one hour, the contact parked the vehicle turned the engine off. When the contact attempted to restart the vehicle, the vehicle failed to start-up due to the battery failure. The contact stated that the battery failure was experienced several times. The vehicle was taken to a dealer to be diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 15,700.

Front windshield cracked halfway across the glass after a pebble kicked up while driving on the highway. The crack spidered out on its own across the entire front windshield within five hours. Camera on windshield now has to be recalibrated otherwise will not function properly.

There is no way to disable the auto start/stop system. In florida the temp can get over 95 degrees. After 10-15 seconds of the car being off the car starts to heat up. My wife who has breathing problems starts having problems. I have ask the dealer to permanently disable this feature but they said no. You can do it each time you start the car but it is several screens deep on the information system. People who do not drive the car often (like my wife) would have trouble turning this feature off and could pass out sitting at a light. I recommend subaru offer a way to disable this feature for people who have breathing issues. At a very minimum they need to move the disabling of this feature on every start to the main information screen where anyone can find it.

Was driving subaru outback, came to a red light and car stopped as it's designed to do. When light turned green, car stalled and never started again leaving me on a 3 lane highway called route 19 in hudson florida.

On 3 occasions the car would not start after being driven.the dashboard lit up, radio worked, but no starter or engine noise.subaru says there is nothing wrong with the car or battery.this appears to be a common subaru problem.

My 2020 outback has suddenly stalled three times. Two of the three times was at about 55 mph. The check engine light came on each time and eventually cleared itself, before i could take the car to a subaru service department. I did take the car to a subaru service department and each time they said there was no current problem and didn't make a repair. I called subaru of america several times.

Had the car 18 months battery went dead; understand that this is some kind of national issue with subaru batteries draining prematurely

Auto on-off function shuts off engine when vehicle stops in traffic for any reason. The engine is to restart when driver steps on accelerator...however this is not always the case. Many times the engine fails to start which causes the driver to believe the accelerator needs more pressure. When the engine does finally start the car leaps forward since it is still in forward gear. This forward leap is very dangerous since ithe leap is totally unexpected. Most drivers turn off this function however the driver turn off selection is voided once the car is turned off. The driver must remember to cancel this auro-off function every time the car is startedsubaru has received many complaints about this function and has decided to relocate the off-on icon to a front screen rather than the previous 3rd screen. The correct fix would seem to be once the driver selects to shut off this function it should not override the off selection unless initated by the driver. Once i shut off my radio it stays off until tirned on again. Subaru service program wri-20janurary 2021

Battery repeatedly dies after very short periods of time, no lights left on or doors left open. Vehicle battery has died a total of 4 times in 7 months when left overnight.

Wife reported car stalled when making a turn after stopping.while turning she said it felt like the car was not getting any gas and had no power.she let the vehicle roll to a stop on the side of the road.she said it took several attempts for the car to start back up.this happened 3 times today during a trip to the dentist in the city of lynchburg, virginia.i called terry subaru of lynchburg when she got home and reported the problem.they told me to bring it in tomorrow to have it checked out.

The contact owns a 2020 subaru outback. The contact stated while driving 65 mph when multiple warning lights were illuminated and a "stop driving the vehicle" message was displayed. The contact stated he was able to drive to a nearby gas station. The contact stated while inspecting under the hood, he noticed the drive belt was shredded. The vehicle was towed to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed with needing the drive belt to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The contact stated in february of 2021, the tailgate failed to open with the key fob or manually. The contact stated after opening the tailgate, it failed to latch and close properly. The contact stated the tailgate ajar warning light was illuminated. The local dealer was called and made aware of the failure. The dealer informed the contact to disconnected the battery. The contact followed the instructions and stated the tailgate was functioning properly but in may of 2021, the failure recurred. The vehicle was towed to royal moore subaru (1326 se enterprise cir, hillsboro, or 97123: (503) 640-5660) where they were unable to diagnose the failure. The vehicle was not repaired but was pending repairs. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 7,500.

Electrical issues, flickering interiorand exterior lights, unable to unlock/ lock doors.car won't start, dead battery

The contact owns a 2020 subaru outback. The contact stated that while driving 45 mph exiting the highway, the vehicle started to shake then stalled. The check engine, oil and battery warning lights illuminated. The contact put the vehicle in park quickly. The contact was in the middle lane with no shoulder. The contact waited thirty seconds to restart the vehicle. The started to shake again. The vehicle was unable to restart. The tow truck operator attempted to restart the vehicle but was unable to. The vehicle was towed to reynolds' subaru (268 hamburg rd, lyme, ct 06371) however, the mechanic was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle remained at the dealer. The contact mentioned that the dealer informed her that national subaru informed them to return the vehicle because they were unable to duplicate the failure. The contact mentioned that she dis not want to drive the vehicle because she transported her grandchildren in the vehicle. The contact also mentioned that the vehicle remained at the dealer for two weeks and a day still unrepaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case number was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 10,950.

The low beam headlights are too bright, or angled too high. I'm constantly having other vehicles "flash" me at night thinking i have high beams on. This has happened worth people i know telling me and strangers. Both on highway and city streets.

My 2020 subaru outback headlights are too bright and appear to be aimed too high.driving at night is a very real problem due to the number of other drivers who keep putting on their high beam lights thinking mine are on when they are not.also i can see my beams pointing higher down the road then for any other car i have owned.i contacted first the dealership and then subaru of america, the dealer was apologetic and explained there are no adjustments to be made on the aim of lights because none were built into the car at the factory.subaru ofamerica confirmed this when i contacted them and said, without even seeing my particular car that my headlights are aligned properly and there is no way to make any adjustments to brightness or aim. This is a hazard due to blinding oncoming drivers and they in turn putting their high beam lights on blinding me.how can they make lights with no adjustment available?

The latest has been returning to the car and finding the battery fully discharged despite nothing being left in the ā“on positionā“. I boosted the car and began to drive it when at the first traffic light the auto-start-stop feature shut the car off and i could not re-startin the middle of an intersection.

Headlights are aimed too high - they are similar to high beams on other cars. Whenever i am driving at night - especially when outside the city, almost every car passing me flashes bright light because they think i have my high beams on. They are pointed too high off the ground and cause glare for other drivers (which i also experienced when my wife was following me in the subaru while i drove our other car. It is really obnoxious and does not seem safe to other vehicles on the road. Dealership said there was nothing wrong and there is no way to adjust lights to point down towards the road.

The headlights on this car are too bright or not adjusted correctly. I have been high beamed on many occasions.9 times one evening, 13 times another evening, and 17 times on another evening. This is a safety concern not only for me but for the other divers as well. I have complained to subaru every time this has happened to me. I have also had it in for service and was told "that's just the way they are" "just ignore the other drivers" well, i can't do that when i am constantly being high beamed from so many other vehicles. Not just cars. Cars, full size pickup trucks, semi's, suv's etc. I have even been high beamed not only on our 2 lane highways but on a 4 lane highway with me in the far right lane and the other driver going the opposite direction in the far right lane.this is not acceptable.i talked with subaru again today and was told "if you take it in for service, andthe technician says that there is nothing wrong with the headlights then, there is nothingwe can do." again, this is not acceptable. I have never in all my years of driving been high beamed so many times.

Battery repeatedly dies after very short periods of time, no lights left on or doors left open. Vehicle battery has died a total of 4 times in 7 months when left overnight.

Low beams need to be adjusted, as they are too bright for oncoming traffic.i get flashed at night multiple times, even by truckers who sit higher in their vehicles.this is a safety concern because it impairs the vision of oncoming traffic, as well as had drivers have road rage towards me, by them shining their high beams at me.

The low beam's angle on the self-leveling headlight units is too flat blinding oncoming traffic (every other car and third truck flashes their high beams at me). The implementation of the handsfree bluetooth protocol is inadequate as incoming call volume is too low (even after increasing speaker volume to maximum). It makes handsfree operation of your mobile phone all but worthless while handsfree operation is required by law in my state.both issues are safety issues as far as i am concerned.

Electrical issues, flickering interiorand exterior lights, unable to unlock/ lock doors.car won't start, dead battery

The windshield cracked without a reason while i was driving. The crack starts at the top, approximately at the center.it started to expand down and in a few hours has reached half of the height. I checked with few repair shops and the verdict is the windshield needs a replacement. After the crack appeared my adaptive cruise control has started to turn off by itself for short period (so far it happened twice).

My 2020 subaru outback had its windshield cracked while traveling on a texas highway (south padre - austin) on dec 27, 2020.the crack started small and grew quickly over the course of the travel to almost 20 inches. The windshield had to be replaced, which was expensive, considering the eyesight safety systems needed to be recalibrated. I have traveled over 200k miles in the us in multiple cars but never experienced a cracked windshield that happened so quickly and spontaneously as it happened on the subaru outback. I understand that this could be a one-off experience but reading more about the pending lawsuit on defective windshields made me submit this complaint.

This 2020 subaru outback touring xt ran well for the first 10,000 miles.we were informed it had a recall and this was corrected 1/06/2021 by carboone's subaru in utica, ny.after the recall repair when the adaptive cruise and adaptive steering are engaged if the vehicle appeared to leave its lane the warning message is 'put your hands on the steering wheel'.before this it was 'lane departure'. If the adaptive steering is not engaged the warningremains 'lane departure'. This behavior happens on all roads when the adaptive steering and adaptive cruise can be engaged.it occurs at all speeds. This warning to put your hands on the wheel occurs when your hands are on the wheel and is not consistent with what is happening (lane departure) nor what the vehicle warnings are when not using the adaptive steering.this presents a confusing picture to the driver and could lead to an inappropriate response to what is happening and cause an accident.subaru's response to the change of warnings is 'this is normal behavior'.

Went to get in my car parked in my driveway for the first time this week where it was parked in my driveway, hadn't been driven since sunday the 11th and the windshield was cracked from the bottom middle and up a significant way before it split into a wide 'y' shape.

Ever since the recall for the cockpit control system software was updated on my 2020 subaru outback touring on march 1, 2021 the console randomly reboots. It has happened 6 times in 3 weeks. On a recent trip on thursday march 25, 2021 the console rebooted 3 times in a little over an hour. When that happens the safety functions are disabled - pre-collision braking, adaptive cruise control, pre-collision throttle management, lane departure and sway warning with lane keep assist, etc.

The head unit (entertainment center) of my car will re-boot several times while driving. This re-boot process will also disable eyesight, speed control, lane departure warning, and other safety systems on my car while driving. These safety systems will not re-enable without pulling over, turning off the car, then turning the car back on again.

Went to get in my car parked in my driveway for the first time this week where it was parked in my driveway, hadn't been driven since sunday the 11th and the windshield was cracked from the bottom middle and up a significant way before it split into a wide 'y' shape.

On multiple occasions my car has come to a complete stop, due to the automatic emergency breaking, when the car in front of me was in no way near my car or when there was nothing near my car at all. After almost having 2 accidents in the last 2 weeks due to this, i brought my car to subaru (twice! two different dealerships) where i was informed that subaru cameras are overly sensitive and "this happens a lot". Both dealerships told me to turn off my safety features and said there was nothing to fix. There is a class action lawsuit in the works for this exact issue and subaru is continuing to tell me nothing is wrong. I'm hoping filling this out will get the issue further investigated since it's a common enough problem.

The electronic controls black out while driving the entire center screen and electronics shut down disabling the warning lights and i think also the electronic systems that function to control the safety warnings and functionality. This has been a problem on an ongoing basis since the purchase of the vehicle. This has been "repaired" multiple times by the dealer under the direction of subaru. There was a recall earlier this year that was supposed to correct the problem it added some functionality, but primarily this recall reprogramming of the electronics was supposed to correct the blacking out of electronics and the disabling of the safety systems. The recall reprogramming has not corrected the problem. When i complained to subaru they suggested that i take a video of the failure when it happened. I explained that this was not possible because i was driving at 70 mph when it happened and could not just grab my phone and start a video while driving on i-95. Last week i was able to get a video of the failure as it happened while my wife was driving and i was a passenger. The entire panel blacked out and she pulled to the side of the road and i took a video of the 4 minutes the system was out. I will attach this video to this report. In addition there is an additional problem that occurred related to the lane keep assist function. There are four options to configure this function they are: 1> off 2> warning buzzer only 3> lane keep function only 4> all functions. My understanding of the operation of this system has one function that shuts the system off that is obviously the off function. #2 although only a buzzer has the system on, #3 has the functionality working but no warning buzzer (my preferred choice) and #4 that has all functions operating both warning buzzer and lane keep functions. My concern is that if you use #3 the system shows a warning light on the dash that shows the system if off.i have video of the electronics but don't know how to upload it.

Windshield developed a progressive crack from edge on passenger side for no apparent reason.the crack was not there on friday, 2/26/2021 at the end of the day. However, when i went to drive it on saturday morning, 2/27/2021 there was a 6-8 inch crack. The crack has continued to spread across the windshield. I did not hit anything nor did anything hit the windshield.

My 2020 subaru outback has had a 2nd incident with a windshield crack that dramatically spread more than a foot long across the windshield, starting from a pin-needle-sized hole near the bottom left corner, i.e., on the passenger side of the windshield. I was driving on the freeway around speed limit when a pebble hit it, causing the tiny hole, which only erupted into a huge crack after i parked it. I've only had the car for exactly 1 year when it happened and it's only been driven for less than 6,000 miles. The windshield seems thin and not durable.

On tuesday 9 february, 2021 i was returning home from picking my two children up from school (age 4 and 6). As i approached the drive way the brakes functioned properly to allow me to turn into the driveway, but suddenly the brakes stopped functioning and the car accelerated driving straight through my closed garage door. I was able to control steering but regardless of my foot pressing firmly on the brake pedal, the car continued to accelerate. Thankfully, installed in the cement was a rogue r3 weight rack that was bolted into the cement at four locations. The car proceeded forward until colliding with the weight rack, a mere 3 feet from our hvac system and the home structure. I immediately turned the vehicle off. If the weight rack did not stop the vehicle myself and my two children could have been significantly injured, not to mention, if my husband or two small children were in the garage at the time, this could have potentially resulted in death. My air bogs did not deploy, the auto collision safety mechanism failed. This is a very dangerous situation. We bought this vehicle with extended warranty in hopes to keep this as a family vehicle for many years to come, primary reason for purchase was safety. This vehicle is not safe and i am afraid to drive it. My vehicle was immediately towed to rpm performance in burlington washington for inspection. Later, brought to dwayne lanes subaru (purchase location) for inspection. Findings were that the vehicle operated as designed and driver is at fault. This vehicle is defective. Dangerously unsafe and this must be made highest priority to prevent future accidents and potential deaths.

Cracked windshield which we had repaired on 10/1/2020 for $821.71.crack appeared seemingly from nowhere on the morning of 9/22/20.

Car has twice stalled out when driving slowly in hot weather. When trying to restart vehicle the engine turned over just fine, but wouldnā€™t restart until much later after the car had a chance to cool down completely. Possible vapor lock or faulty fuel pump.

Was driving subaru outback, came to a red light and car stopped as it's designed to do. When light turned green, car stalled and never started again leaving me on a 3 lane highway called route 19 in hudson florida.

We are getting about 24.5 mpg highwayon a car that was advertised at 33 mpg highway. We traded in a 2015 outback that did consistently get 32 mpg on the type of driving we do. (mostly highway).i have taken the car to the dealer where we purchased the vehicle several times but they say the computer shows no problem.they cannot conceive that the sensors or the computer might be in error. This 30%reduction in gas mileage will cost us about $600/year.we are winter texans and drive to alaska every summer and there is the danger of running out of gas on some of the long stretches onthe alaska highway.

When driving my vehicle around 50-70 it will hesitate and actslike it wants to stop. No warning lights come on have taking back to the dealer. They couldn't get it to do this. The vehicle is not cold when this happens. It can be after i've been driving for 30 minutes or more. This happens on main roads and highways.

Driving on a busy road, made a stop at a light. When i got the green arrow to turn left, car just died in the middle of the intersection. Was fortunate, 4 good individuals jumped out of their vehicles to push us out of the intersection and avoid collision with oncoming traffic. Called subaru for a tow. During the 2 hour wait, tried to start a couple of times with no luck. When tow truck arrived, was to put it in neutral, so attempted to start again, which it did. Drove immediately to dealership. Stayed there for 2 and a half weeks. They replaced fuel pump, which in my mind, may not be at the root of the problem. My thoughts are that something overheated, possibly a circuit or software that caused the malfunction. It was a 95 degree day, the car had been idling for about 20 minutes in a store parking lot right before the shutdown. In talking with subaru, they will not give me root cause once they do further analysis on the problem. I feel at great risk this can happen at any time going forward, (ie on the interstate, at an intersection, etc). I'm hoping that logging this incident will help other outback owners know of the potential danger they may be in.

My car was parked and i discovered about a foot long crack in my windshield. There does not appear to be a reason for cause, no chips in my windshield or accidents with the car. It's mostly garage kept and has less than 12000 miles over 14 months of ownership.

When passing semiā€™s on highway they are not detected by the blind spot detection (the light on the mirror does not turn on). It does not pick up the semi even when i am only halfway passed the semi.the blind spot detection does work when passing cars, motorcycles, and other vehicles on the highway. I reported this issue to the dealer (cleobay subaru, killeen,tx). They tested the vehicle and told me they did not experience any issues. I immediately left the dealership and went out on the highway and still experienced the same issue. I believe this is a significant safety issue.thank you for you time

Cracked windshield which we had repaired on 10/1/2020 for $821.71.crack appeared seemingly from nowhere on the morning of 9/22/20.

The car has a faulty electronic system that controls the stability and the adaptive cruise control. Transmission also needs replacement. Problems happen at high speed on freeways. Documented the problem with various youtube footage as follows:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oxojdp_t9lihttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=77wurjdtvzkhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lgql63ldqvi&t=10shttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0acrlyxyhqi&t=11s

This is not against subaru it is against dohclo company. I purchased an after market seatbelt extender. It is defective and will not secure the seatbelt to restraint you in an accident that could result in ejection from the vehicle during an accident. I contacted the company and they are refusing to assist. I worry about the safety of other people that may use the item without checking that it is secured properly. I feel that a recall should be started. I have photos, the product and copies of all my emails regarding this.*dt*dt*as*dt *dt

The first issue i notice was back in may, my subaru almost came to a full complete before it leap frogged into the car in front of me, causing me to reared end the car. Then today october 11. I got into my car, removed my windshield sunshade from my car at around noon. I heard a loud glass like crack. I then saw a huge crack from where the rear view mirror is and a line from to top of the windshield to the bottom. Just like that. Its 8 months old subaru with 5000 miles on it.

Was driving subaru outback, came to a red light and car stopped as it's designed to do. When light turned green, car stalled and never started again leaving me on a 3 lane highway called route 19 in hudson florida.

When going over small bumps there is a cracking sound in the front and rear suspension or brake area, it does not happen when going at high speeds just small bumps and braking.

While traveling at about 35 to 40mph approaching a stopped intersection (red light) i tried to slow the vehicle by braking and could not locate the brake petal.i put my foot on the accelerator and moved it to the left at the same level in an effort to find the brake petal.my foot did not hit the petal.i again moved my foot from right to left higher than lower and still did not find a brake petal.i could not stop the vehicle from moving forward.while i was approaching the stopped lines of traffic the vehicles' (eye-sight) feature failed to operate and warn me or start braking the vehicle as i swerved around them to avoid a collision.having avoided an accident, i immediately pushed the vehicles' (starter push button) to such off the vehicle.the vehicle shut off and coasted to the side of the road and came to a stop.i noted immediately that the brake petal had reappeared.i had the vehicle towed to the dealership.the vehicle had 1860 mi of use at the time.the (active curse) was set for 40mph, but not engaged.the (auto start/stop) function was turned off.the(auto vehicle hold) function was turned on.after a review of the black box data and the physical vehicle, the dealership and subaru america investigations, they determined nothing was wrong with the vehicle.they could not account for the missing brake petal or why the (eye-sight function) did not engage and warn me to brake or start applying the brakes itself.

Car windshield had ice obscuring part of the eyesight system on startup.warning indicators lit up informing me that the eyesight system was disabled.concurrent with this fault, the failure of the eyesight system would not allow me to release the electronic parking brake leaving me stranded in the snow.

My wife and i were driving home on i35 in oklahoma.the road was straight.it was nighttime.i had all the subaru eyesight safety systems enabled.both hands were on the steering wheel, with adaptive cruise control set at 70mph.lane centering was among the features operating.i suddenly experienced an instantaneous and very abrupt, uncommanded ~30-40 degree clockwise rotation of the steering wheel.the whole event lasted just 2-3 seconds and i quickly recovered back to the left.fortunately, the lateral displacement of our track was only a few feet into the breakdown lane on the interstate. My manual control inputs on the steering wheel easily overcame the actuator. I immediately disabled the lane centering function and we continued home without further incident.the takeaway that i want to emphasize is that this was an extremely abrupt, sudden hard right deflection of the wheel.this was not the normal gentle nudge and slow, slight steering wheel movements that the lane keep and lane centering systems normally provide.imagine that your passenger reached over and forcefully grabbed the steering wheel and yanked hard down on it - that's as closely as i can describe this.

While driving on the highway i had adaptive cruise control and lane centering turned on. I was driving on a straight stretch of highway when my steering wheel jutted left very hard. I had both hands on the wheel when this happened but was unprepared for it. This caused me to verge into the median. I corrected the vehicle steering and continued driving. A few minutes later, my vehicle did this again while still on a straight section of highway causing me to almost hit the car next to me.i stopped using lance centering after this occurred and reached out to subaru of america. They requested i take the car into my local shop which i did. The dealer did not find any issues with lane centering and had no reason why this would occur.

Dec 7th.lane centering and cruise control functions on.while traveling south on i-75 in the center lane my wife moved to the left lane to pass another car.after passing the car she had to fight the steering wheel to stay in the left hand lane. After several minutes she took her hands off the wheel and the car veered sharply to the right and across the dashed white line into the center lane.as she righted herself back into the left hand lane i reached over and turned the lane centering function off.about 15 minutes later she was following a brown van.the cruise control was still on, was maintaining a speed of 68 mph and safe distance.cruise was set at 70mph and distance at 4 bars.the van exited the interstate at which time the outback started a hard acceleration and had reached a speed of 87 mph before i realized what was happening and turned off cruise control.acceleration factor was set to normal,i then set it to ecodec 19th.cruise control on, lane centering oncruise set at 70 mph, distance at 2 bars.passed a semi that was doing less than 70 mph. I now had a pack behind me and another pack a good ways in front of me.moved back into the center lane where i passed the truck.cruise started accelerating, at 77mph turned the cruise off.my foot was not on the accelerator.cruise acceleration was still on eco mode.speed then decreased as expected.i now have 2 instantaneous of where the cruise control accelerated the vehicle passed the set speed.i now have 1 instantaneous of where the vehicle would not stay in its lane.note.i like my subaru outback very much.it is quiet, comfortable and easy to drive.however, i believe the incorrect functioning of the vehicle on the above two dates warrant documentation for further safety investigation. Neither the dealer or subaru has yet been informed

The contact owns a 2020 subaru outback. While driving 55 mph with the cruise control engaged, the contact lost control of the steering and the vehicle veered to the left. The contact managed to regain control of the steering. Miller hill subaru (4710 miller trunk hwy, duluth, mn 55811, (218) 722-5337) was contacted and scheduled a diagnostic test. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 600.

The contact owns a 2020 subaru outback. The contact stated that while stopped, the steering ceased. The contact stated that the failure was intermittent. The contact stated that the failure was also experienced while driving at approximately 20 mph, with the steering being difficult to operate. No warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that the vehicle was towed to stohlman subaru service located at 8435 leesburg pike, vienna, va 22182 and was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was informed of failure. The failure mileage was 2,300.

I was driving and my windshield just cracked.

The windshield cracked in the garage while it was stationary. Nothing physically damaged the windshield and it cracked on its own. This happened twice on my 2017 subaru outback as well. I see that there is a class action lawsuit in place and i would like to get added as this is the third time this has happened.

Driving on highway, 65 mph.hear a small "click."look over and discover a 6" crack in the windshield.i've been driving for 40 year and know what it sounds like when a stone hits the windshield.this wasn't a stone.

We were driving down hiway 50 near gunnison co when we heard a sharp sound followed by the windshield cracking.within a few seconds, this was repeated but the cracking occurred in a different place on the windshield.

Sunroof glass exploded out while driving on highway at 70 mph. Happened at 7 a.m. 5/10/2021 in mechanicsville va. Nothing hit the vehicle and it was about 63 degrees outside. I haven't used the sunroof in weeks. It made no since. I googled and saw where this has been reported to have happened to them on their outback and some other vehicles too. I thankfully had the inside cover panel slid forward so none of the glass came down on me. I took the car back home but as i drove slower, the glass kept coming apart. At first it was a square area about 6" x 4" missing when i first stopped and the rest was all shattered like little squares but in place. Then as i drove home at a slower speed on the side roads, it continued falling in onto the headliner slide cover.

The contact owns a 2020 subaru outback. The contact stated that while driving approximately 35 mph the front driver's side windshield started to crack. The crack started from the lower section of the windshield. The cause of the failure was not determined. The vehicle was repaired at a glass repair facility. The local dealer and manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 3,000.

A 12 inch crack in the windshield appeared after i heard a loudsharp sound. The vehicle was in motion traveling 55 mph on a four lane highway (briley parkway) in nashville, tennessee.

Got into the car , shut the door and the rear window shattered. The car is two weeks old.

Bought brand new, in 5 months the windshield had a cracked windshield, not the impact strike spider type, but from the drivers side edge, straight line crack 2 feet long. The second time a crack, straight line type from the passenger edge. The vehicle was in motion both times, 50 miles an hour, no other vehicles around. While driving with the crack, the crack would get longer. Never scene anything like it.

2020 subaru outback.

When going over small bumps there is a cracking sound in the front and rear suspension or brake area, it does not happen when going at high speeds just small bumps and braking.

Vehicle was bought in nov. 2019. It has since had it's windshield replaced three times. The vehicle was on the freeway each time and the windshield was hit by a rock. Now i know rocks break glass, but i have never owned a vehicle with such a fragile windshield. I've owned many many cars and none have ever needed their windshield replaced even after being hit by a rock. Chipped yes, but never cracked all the way across like this vehicle. The vehicle also has a popping noise that comes from the left front, when turning left. The dealer can't figure out what the noise is.

Cracked windshield

Front windshield spontaneously cracked during normal driving mode

Spontaneous cracking of windshield while vehicle was parked.started at bottom of windshield approx. Midway.approx. 9 inches in length vertically then crack went to passenger side approx. 5 inches.

Windshield has a crack line from the center bottom edge of the windshield going up towards the center to the right then left as it expands.it was parked and appeared the next morning with no sign of impact.

Unknown - i was pulling away from my parking spot at work and heard a "pop" sound. I looked up and the windshield cracked right at the top in the middle where the rear view mirror is located.i am familiar with this issue as it also happened to my 2012 subaru outback. It is quite unsettling because you don't know when/if it will spread even further. Everything about subaru's are great except for the cheap windshield.

Windshield crack

While driving on a highway i notice that my windshield got cracked for no reason. I just purchaced my outback 5 days ago before it happened.

Windshield cracked without a reason.car parked at night.next morning windshield cracked without any sign of an impact

We purchased our 2020 subaru outback in october 2019 and within a a few months (feb 2020) we came back to our parked car with a cracked starting from the bottom of windshield that started from the wipers. We got our windshield replaced, fast forward to october 2020 and we're replacing our windshield again from driving on a roll rode. There has to be some sort of defect on these windshields. We can't be the only one experiencing this on these new cars.

Windshield has 4 cracks/runs approx 24 inches each and chips very easily.i contacted the dealership and they didn't have any windshields to replace it with.safelite couldn't find my car's windshield in their inventory.i even bought the policy that replaces the windshield at no cost to me.i drive with a cracked windshield that can't be fixed.

Windshield cracked for no reason as it was sitting in the garage

Owner drove on to a parking lot. Vehicle lane departure prevention function sensed a white line on the pavement. This caused the vehicle to turn left, acceleration an uncontrollable fashion. The vehicle jumped the curb proceeding into heavy shrubs which damaged the vehicle. The shrubs stopped the vehicle.

After taking my car to dealer for wri20 recall on 03/10/21, i have experienced intermittent issues with the touch screen and steering wheel controls.my touch screen will go black, act as if rebooting, radio button non responsive, ā€œno audioā€¯ message across top of screen which affects radio and phone (safety issue) and contacts from phone appear and disappear.on my dash, the message ā€˜keep your eyes on the roadā€¯ would continue repeatedly with my eyes staring straight at the road (irritating and safety issue)- voice control would not respond at all or it would ask if i wanted to set it up (already done).i drive over the sierra (donner pass) quite frequently and need the security of a working navigation system (blank screen - no navigation) and an operational phone.i brought my car in for service initially 04/01/21 but it was returned 04/02/21 with no issues being replicated and car in ā€œnormalā€¯ working order.my car has nowbeen sitting at the dealership since 04/25/21with the same issues as before and i am driving a loaner.i have been in touch with subaru and a case has been opened.i was supposed to hear from them today but no contact locally or from corporate.the only thing i have been told is - if they can not replicate the problem they can not do anything.i have provided photos of some of the issues (when i could safely take pic) but still been told nothing can be done under warranty if they canā€™t replicate it.i am so frustrated that subaru wants to return a car to me that i do not feel safe driving.

Car windshield had ice obscuring part of the eyesight system on startup.warning indicators lit up informing me that the eyesight system was disabled.concurrent with this fault, the failure of the eyesight system would not allow me to release the electronic parking brake leaving me stranded in the snow.

My windshield spontaneously cracked overnight while it was parked in the driveway. One morning as i was getting in the vehicle and i noticed a crack had appeared in the windshield originating from the bottom of the glass on the passenger side and extending up and to the center about a foot.

Excessive cracking of windshield.car is two months old and woke up one morning to an eight inch crack on the left side middle.the next day the crack was half way across the windshield.

While driving on the highway the sunroof spontaneously shattered. The nearest car in front of me was appeared to be a football field away, in front of me. I never saw anything bouncing in front of me/towards me. It literally sounded like someone shot at the car. The interior shade was closed. Temperature was approx. 75 degrees. Occurred at 7:17pm. There was no sound of anything hitting the glass, it just shattered.

We had (3) broken windshields during normal highway driving since november. (2) in last 8 weeks. My wife has travel same section of highway m-f for last 8 years with no broken windshields with (2) previous vehicles.

It is not about an accident. I discovered a crack on the side of the rear right tire.it seems to be a defective tire since i didn't drove on any obstacle.it looks like there is a potential for blow, loosing control of vehicle, accident, injury, or deadly accident.

Along with the ongoing class action lawsuits about the subaru outback lower windshields, we have had a crack in our lower windshield that popped up ~30 seconds after the smallest stone hit the windshield. We've had the same small stones hit our windshield on our other cars for decades and never had a crack (around 9-12 inches in length) come up like this.

Windshield crack.vehicle only had 3500 miles.this is unacceptable to have a windshield crack with such low mileage!! i got in the car and noticed by the driver side an upside down "l".

We purchased a 2020 outback limited 4/28/2020.the salesman, [xxx], delivered the car to our home on 5/1/2020. The second time we drove the vehicle, 5/6/2020, a crack suddenly appeared on the lower passenger side of the front windshield as we were driving on an interstate highway. (my husband is an atk amputee and wanted to practice driving the car with his prosthetic leg before driving 30+ miles to a doctor appointment.) there was no apparent reason for the crack as there were no automobiles around us. We already had an appt to return the car to the dealer that week to install options we had purchased at sale. At that time we learned the windshield was not part of the warranty agreement we had signed and the finance agent in no way encouraged us to sign that portion of the agreement. Nor did he inform us of the highcost of windshield replacement and electronics re-calibration. We paid $1143.34 to replace the front windshield and re-calibrate the electronics. Our insurance was a $1000 deductible would would not allow filings from dealerships as they are not approved repair sites. At that time we also paid an additional $500 to purchase the windshield warranty.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Windshield developed a crack from no apparent external cause and crack has spread across windshield from driver's side to vmcenter if vehicle obscuring driver view of roadway. I live in mt where cracked windshields are very common, usually occuring due to rock or pebble striking glass and then spreading from a "bullseye" to a crack. This incident occured with no apparent external object striking vehicle, not was the crack preceded by the common bullseye normally created by flying gravel or rock.

The windshiled has a large crack on the driver's side and is under a week old. I noticed the crack after vehicle had been parked all night at my house. Not sure how or where it began.i noticed on 3/5 but not sure how long a smaller one could have been there and started to grow.

The windshield cracked in the garage while it was stationary. Nothing physically damaged the windshield and it cracked on its own. This happened twice on my 2017 subaru outback as well. I see that there is a class action lawsuit in place and i would like to get added as this is the third time this has happened.

Windshield cracked from the bottom when the heater and defroster were used to preheat the car on cold morning in the driveway. Thermal shock from the outside vs inside temperature caused the windshield to crack upwards and then split in both lateral directions. Coincidentally, the car is new and was making a creaking noise when i turned to the right which i could not source. Now the window is cracked and the noise is gone. Tells me the windshield was too tight and under stress.

Windshield cracked from the bottom of windshield. I had complained to the the dealer. They won't help me and said it is rock chip. It was in the parking mode when it start to crack itself.

Had a rock hit the windshield when a light turned green. Chip turned into a crack by the next morning and within a few days crack spread across the entire windshield horizontally.

Bought a new car with a defective windshield

According to wisconsin's lemon law, the vehicle that i own meets wi's lemon:* i bought a brand new car(only 4 miles were in it)* from day 2 (after purchasing), the carplay malfunction has been an on-going issue and never solved. Defect within a year and the car is still under the warranty.* dealer failed 5 times to fix the same issue.i paid 50k for the vehicle november, 2019 which is still under the warranty yet the problem is not being rectified.over a year long battle, i am stuck with broken car.service manager from the dealer admitted that they are not getting enough support fromcorp which led software update does not work.a few times, i almost rare ended the front of car due to carplay malfunction.would you please look into this?

My 2020 subaru is 9 months old and this will be the 2nd windshield i will be replacing in the car.the first time the car was in motion but not struck by debris.the second time there was debris that hit the windshield and the crack moved quickly across the windshield without stopping.there was a class action suit about the faulty windshields with many subaru owners involved and recently the suit was dismissed by the court.i understand outbacks and foresters have defective windshields going back as far as 2016 and subaru has not addressed the problem.i have been told the windshield is thinner than most to accommodate the sensors.the cost to replace a windshield is $900+ each time due to the need for only a subaru windshield and the calibration of the sensors needed.

On 3 occasions the car would not start after being driven.the dashboard lit up, radio worked, but no starter or engine noise.subaru says there is nothing wrong with the car or battery.this appears to be a common subaru problem.

Had new 2020 outback less than 3 weeks and noted hairline stress crack (no chips) on outside laminate of windshield, near passenger side camera, 3.25 inches long. I was washing the windshield in my driveway when i noticed the crack. There are previous reports of defective windshield glass with this model. Photo attached.

The front windshield of the car cracked while the car was parked in a parking lot that had no trees or objects that could have hit in the location it cracked.

Windshield spontaneously cracked in a safe location (driveway).

July 2, 2020: the front windshield cracked seemingly without cause while driving on the interstate. After stopping, it appeared to have a tiny chip near the rear-view mirror and a crack about 3 feet long extending from it. This windshield was replaced on july 8, 2020.july 19, 2020: the new windshield received a tiny rock chip while driving. The rock chip was less than 1 inch in size so a repair was to be attempted. The repair was unsuccessful as the rock chip immediately spread when suction was applied to the surface.

Classic subaru weak windshield glass issue. While traveling on a small side street about 40mph, something that was inaudible hit my front glass last night while going to the store. We saw what appeared to be a very small chip. On the way home from the store the small chip turned into a streaking spiderweb just from hitting pavement divisions on the highway. This car has less than 600 miles on it. The subaru salesmen were very pushy about buying their ding, dent, glass protection stating that they know the glass is about 900 dollars to fix. I think they know the glass is weak.now i am out the costs of a windshield plus the tint to have it re-tinted. So we are talking well over 1k if i have the dealership install the glass and re-calibrate the eyesight program to the windshield.

Purchased vehicle dec 2019. Had first windshield replaced at our cost on april 29, 2020. Had chip in this windshield fixed at our cost on july 9. 2020. In october 2020, replaced windshield cracked starting on driver's side for no reason while on a main highway

Wind shield is cracked after sitting in garage for 2 days

The low beam's angle on the self-leveling headlight units is too flat blinding oncoming traffic (every other car and third truck flashes their high beams at me). The implementation of the handsfree bluetooth protocol is inadequate as incoming call volume is too low (even after increasing speaker volume to maximum). It makes handsfree operation of your mobile phone all but worthless while handsfree operation is required by law in my state.both issues are safety issues as far as i am concerned.

Windshield had a crack, that i thought was weird as i didn't hear a rock, but a crack. I saw that 2020 subaru outbacks had a lawsuit for defect. I found out weeks after i made an insurance claim to have my windshield fixed. I was driving on a highway when this happened.

A 12 inch crack in the windshield appeared after i heard a loudsharp sound. The vehicle was in motion traveling 55 mph on a four lane highway (briley parkway) in nashville, tennessee.

I believe that the windshield cracked spontaneously. I drove to get coffee this morning. In the parking lot i noticed a 10 inch crack in the windshield that hadn't been there before. To my knowledge nothing has hit the windshield. The crack wasn't there yesterday. There was snow in the car this morning. I'm wondering if turning the interior heater had anything fun do with it. It's currently 32 degrees outside. There isn't a mark in the windshield except for the catch which seems to originate at the base of the windshield. There isn't a rock mark or anything else. I've only had this car for a a couple of months.

Windshield cracked overnight. Appears to be spontaneous.

Spontaneous windshield crack while driving

I was trying to open the trunk with the button in the car, it didnā€™t work, so i pulled the car forward thinking it was the problem, but it wasnā€™t. I got out of the left the door open and attempted to open it, but it would not. With the keys in my hand, i shut the driverā€™s side door, and attempted to push the button on the back, but that still didnā€™t work, even using the key fob. I went back to the driverā€™s side, only to find that the doors somehow became locked with the car on and the keys in my hands. The doors would not unlock even though i touched the driverā€™s front and the passengerā€™s front doors. Using the key fob did not work. Luckily this car has the key in the fob and thatā€™s what i had to use to enter the car. Actually, this is two incidents in one, the trunk would not open and the doors locked with the car running and the keys in my hand. The trunk oddly just spontaneously started to work again after the analogue key was used on the door. Of note, the monitor and apple carplay had been on the fritz all morning and continued. Iā€™m not sure if the electronics caused a problem with trunk opening and the car doors locking while the car was running.

All four front vents in dash board rattle when going about 40 mph on slightly rough surface. Also loud sound that sounds like popcorn popping on passenger side that seems to be coming from the passenger corner of the front windshield or dash board.the popcorn sound starts when driving at 65 to 70 mph.

I experienced two incidents with the lift gate on my 2020 outback limited xt which i believe to be serious safety concerns. They both happened on 11/23/2019.first incident:the car was in an indoor parking garage, backed up to the wall with about 4 ft of clearance between the closed lift gate and the wall. I had just put my 2-year-old grandson into his stroller, and we were between the rear of the car and the wall. As i was wheeling the stroller away from the car, the lift gate automatically opened and pinned the stroller against the wall!i was not touching the key fob in any way.the gate did not immediately sense the obstruction, and it continued to force itself against the stroller. I had to push forcefully against the lift gate in order to free my grandson and me.second incident:after returning to the car which was parked as described in the first incident, the lift gate forcefully hit my wife on the head! i had raised the gate, and after the gate was all the way up, my wife bent down to put an item in. The lift gate came down on her head. She was in excruciating pain!it has been about 24 hours since this occurred, and she is still experiencing headache, nausea and blurred vision.we are now seeking medical attention.later that afternoon i experimented with the gate, and it malfunctioned the same way (2nd incident) 2 more times! after it went up all the way, the gate immediately came down automatically! (without the key fob being physically contacted in any way)

I went to drive on august 20, 2021 and i havenā€™t driven since august 15, 2021. When i went to drive my car on the 20th i noticed a huge crack in my windshield with no place of impact that something hit the windshield. There was no crack on the windshield on the 15th. Every time i drive it, it keeps growing.

Subaru eyesight lane centering failure.date:27apr 2020,time: about 9:45am, location:i-75 south bound between dayton and cincinnate ohio, about mile marker 29.8.road conditions:dry, sunny and bright.: adaptive cruise control on, lane centering on. Vechile milage about 7700 miles.while passing a semi on the left, at the rear corner of the semi the steering wheel tried to make a hard sharp right turn.as if the right side of the lane had moved way to the right.i had a hard grip on the steering wheel which was the only thing that kept me from crashing into the left rear of the semi trailer.. I have noticed in the past that the lane centering has a tendancy to steer close to semi's while passing either on the right or the left. For this reason i tend to watch closely when passing but this suprised me at how hard the steering tried to execute a lane change, it was almost like someone jerked the steering wheel to the right.after bringing it back on coarse the lane centering stayed in the proper lane abet, wanting to stay towards the right side while finishing passing.lane centering functioned properly for the next few miles at which time i turned it off due to approaching several semi's.i don't believe the subara's eyesight lane centering function is reliable.this is also the second time the lane centering has tried to execute a lane changesince owning the vehicle.

While driving along route 81 south of carlisle pa.an audible pop was heard.i noted nothing at the time.later in the day, this 2 foot crack appeared in the windshield.i don't believe the crack is the result of an object as there is no apparent point of impact and only the the very small area adjoining the frame is at all disturbed aside from the obvious clean crack.

The left-most dash vent rattles intermittently, most often on rough road surface. Vehicle purchased in december 2019, and rattle started in april 2020. My local dealer replaced the vent, but the rattle continues and appears to come from behind the vent. Because it's intermittent and can't be reproduced on demand i've thoroughly documented it with audio/video recordings. Escalating with subaru of america to get it resolved.

I have a 2020 subaru outback. The windshields keep breaking. I just had the third (3rd) windshield installed in this 2020 vehicle and it was cracked before it was two weeks old. The last windshield i had was spider webs of cracks - i drove it like that for months waiting on subaru to fix the glass issue. It is not fixed. I have driven cars in this area for two decades and i have never seen anything like this.there is something wrong with the new subaru windshields. Small debris will hit the car on hwy/interstate that would not usually crack glass and it cracks. It chips very easy and then cracks to a length that is not able to be repaired. I think some of the cracks just appear. Bizarre. A family member has 2021 ascent and just had to replace her windshield also.

I/we were driving west on river drive, in davenport iowa, and the windshield cracked on the drivers side.later in the trip it cracked on the passenger's side.nothing has ever hit the windshield to cause it to crack.i believe this is due to a defective windshield.

A small rock hit my windshield and the windshield instantly cracked. Subaru said the windshield was not covered under standard warranty and recommended a local glass company. The windshield was replaced with another subaru windshield that cracked 3 days later while the car was parked inside my closed garage. The second windshield never got hit by anything - it just cracked for no reason. The glass company said it was a stress fracture. The initial fracture was right across my line of sight, making it difficult to see. The fracture continued to spread and new cracks were developing. I now have a third windshield on a car that is one year old.

The battery keeps dying. Subaru tested the battery it's fine.told me to get a battery tender or to drive for an hour or so every couple of days for the alternator to charge up. In less than a week the car battery had to be jumped 5 times. Started 4/15/2021 thru today 4/21/2021.

Windshield spontaneously cracked for no apparent reason. No impact, just cracked as i was driving out of my neighborhood (about 10mph).

The windshield is too fragile. I've owned this car for less than 4 months, have already had my windshield replaced once. Literally 2 weeks after replacement, another crack. I didn't even hear a rock hit the windshield. I was driving off the exit of a freeway, no one in front of me, i heard a small cracking noise. I noticed a bullseye crack on the passenger side. If the glass can't even sustain a small rock hitting it (so small that i didnt even hear it hit the windshield) how does this glass hold up in accidents?

Went to get in my car parked in my driveway for the first time this week where it was parked in my driveway, hadn't been driven since sunday the 11th and the windshield was cracked from the bottom middle and up a significant way before it split into a wide 'y' shape.

Took car to dealership 4/21/21, they removed battery charged it and tested it, stated battery was good. Today, 4/27/21, tried to take car out and it won't start.

I was hit by a very small pebble in the freeway which left a small crack smaller than the diameter of a nickel. My insurance sent safelite to repair the small crack. The technician started work on the small crack and immediately popped and turned into a 10-12 inch crack which meant the windshield had to be replaced. I did not have to pay the cost of the replacement windshield as safelite said it was still under warranty.

The head unit (entertainment center) of my car will re-boot several times while driving. This re-boot process will also disable eyesight, speed control, lane departure warning, and other safety systems on my car while driving. These safety systems will not re-enable without pulling over, turning off the car, then turning the car back on again.

The front windshield cracked unexpectedly today while driving. There were no visible rock chips where the crack emanated from but i have noticed other chips in the glass. I only have 15,000 miles on thisvehicle. There was a loud pop and a large crack appeared on my windshield.

The car was parked on 12/28.2019 in perfect condition as new. Upon entering the vehicle at 11:50am on 12/29/2019 it was obvious that the windshield had cracked overnight. The crack is 24 inches in length and runs from the bottom drivers side under the left side of the windshield wiper heading in an upward direction then turns toward the right side of the vehicle at an elevation of one third the height of the windshield. The vehicle was parked and stationary when this occurred. I have been exclusively the sole driver of this vehicle for all of its 2260 miles. The windshield has never been struck by an object.the vehicle was purchased new by me on 10/31/2019.

Large, long windshield crack. No rocks or debris, nothing hit the windshield. I went out to my car one morning and there is a long crack in my windshield starting at the middle edge.

A crack spontaneously appeared on my windshield a few days ago..it looks like an edge crack that just formed while it was stationary on my driveway and doesn't appear to be formed by contact with any object. This car is just 4 months old and has not been driven much. I believe this is a defect in the glass!

Windshield cracked in a relatively new (1-year-old) vehicle. I discovered the crack in the morning when the vehicle was stationary. I believe it wasn't there yesterday when i last parked the car.

We discovered a crack in our subaru outback windshield. There is no sign of a chip from a rock hitting the windshield, just a crack. The vehicle had less than 4,00 miles on it. The outback was in the garage when discovered. We had it repaired on october 282020. While gathering information about the cracked windshield i came across several sites discussing subaru cracked windshields and a class action suit against subaru for this particular problem.

Went to drive vehicle and found windshield cracked down the middle from top to bottom.no chips and no prior damage of any kind to windshield.windshield spontaneously cracked for no reason whatsoever.

Windshield crack. Have owned the vehicle for less than 3 weeks and 250 miles. Started the car with remote, and after entering the vehicle, noticed a crack at the base of the windshield about 12" in length. Upon inspection, saw an area ofsmall reflections just beneath the driver's side wiper where the in-glass defrosting elements are located, the crack extends from this point in two directions; one down to the base of the glass, the other diagonally upward. Further inspection reveals no chipping or roughness on the exterior, though the outer lamination is the layer that is cracked. There seems to be a flaw internally from which the break emanates. As stated earlier, this simply appeared upon entering the vehicle first thing in the morning. The outside temperature was below freezing and the car had been started with the heater/defroster on to pre-warm the interior. There was no impact to the windshield from a rock or other debris; in fact the point where there is the visible flaw is exactly beneath the wiper in the resting position; no object could have struck the glass there as it is covered by the wiper blade. Photos show the overall windshield with the wiper retracted and a closeup that shows the point of origin and horizontal defroster elements. When reported to the selling dealer, the service person said there is no coverage for glass, in spite of the stated 36 month/30k mile 'bumper-to-bumper' warranty. We explained and showed dealer representatives that this instance was clearly not caused by a road hazard but a spontaneous break. The crack has continued to lengthen while we wait for appeals to regional subaru representatives.

New 2020 subaru outback with 3k miles. Was driving home at ~50mph on freeway, a small (1 cm) rock hit upper windshield and made a small chip.the chip then suddenly propagated to a foot-long crack right in front of the driver. Have owned many vehicles over the past 30 years and have never had a windshield shatter. Properly manufactured windshield should chip, not shatter.

Windshield cracked without any incident. The crack is approximately 12 inches long and located on the drivers side of the vehicle.with no incident causing this crack, i am concerned that this crack may cause severe injuries and is an obvious safety concern.

I went out to my garage and found a 8 inch crack in my windshield.there is no apparent impact point to the crack.the day before, i went grocery shopping andparked it in the garage when i got home.there was no crack.the car is 5 months old.i contacted my local dealer for help, and they said they have no knowledge of a windshield problem.

My vehicle is about 15 months old. It has lots of tiny chips in the windshield. No cracks yet, but i've read about many other subaru outback owners with this problem.

Windshield cracks unreasonably in deicer area. Cracks continuously growing, even without travel or vibration. Car had less than 500 miles.

The contact owns a 2020 subaru outback. The contact stated that after parking the vehicle, the next morning it was discovered that the front glass windshield had cracked. The cause of the crack was undetermined. The contact indicated that no object had made contact with the windshield to cause the failure. The local dealer and manufacturer were not yet contacted. The failure mileage was 31,000.

Purchase 2020 subaru on 12/30/19 and as 7/15/20 the windshield had to be replaced three times do to cracking. First time it chips and crack appeared and spread the windshield. Second time, car was in the garage and came out and found a cracked across the lower part of it. Third time on july 15 driving on a secondary road drive over a speed bump and a crack appeared on the passenger side.the garage is always parked in the garage. Yesterday, july 22, walked out to the car and now there are new cracks on the driver side.have not gotten the windshield fixed yet. Can you help?

Windshield cracked while driving

I have had 4 cracked windshields that have needed to be replaced in one years time. No windshiled has made it longer than 5 months, two only lasted about 6 weeks. I have replaced all with oem glass. Last three incidence were for unknown cause to me.i purchased my car 10/12/19 . First windshield was replaced 12/19, second 5/20, then 7/20, and again 12/20

My windshield developed a massive crack (about 6 in vertical and 8 in across) spontaneously. My fiancee and i were out running errands and stopped into a shop. During the drive to the shop, we did not hear or see any road debris hit the windshield. When we parked, the windshield was intact and completely normal. Once we completed our shopping (about 30 minutes from the time that we parked), we returned and found our vehicle had this long, ridiculous crack. To reiterate. My car was at a complete stop and parked. I was in a parking lot and was at least 200 yards away from the nearest road. Now, i have to get my windshield completely replaced in order to see clearly. Incredibly expensive. I am the original owner of the vehicle, and this outback has never been involved in any accidents or wrecks. My fiancee and i are the only drivers of the vehicle.

While driving my brand new 2020 subaru outback on a 2 lane paved road at approx 35 to 40 miles per hour i heard this loud crack and i then notice a fairly large crack at the bottom of my windshield. There were no vehicles in front of me at the time of this crack sound.

Small rock hit windshield on interstate, leaving a nice chip with five lines coming out. In the am found 2 lines expanded several inches outward. -this is the 2nd time i had a windshield break in the this car (in the last year)! mileage is at 19000, owned new 1.5 yrs.

Tiny chip in corner of windshield, progressed within 2 hrs. To a crack 1/3 size 24 in +/-) around on passenger side of window. Noticed on a stop, but was on highway, no noise was heard preceding the chip.

The morning of april 28 i noticed a crack developing on the windshield of my 2020 subaru outback.it started on the passenger's side below the wiper and is heading upward.the previous evening, i heard a small rock hit the windshield while driving on the highway, however there was no crack evident at the time.the next day the crack appeared and there is a very small pit at the rock impact site.the size of the rock strike does not seem like it should have caused the entire windshield to crack.this is the second cracked windshield on this 3-month old car.

For the third time, the oem and oem replacement windshields cracked starting from the edge and quickly propagated.no foreign object debris was noted hitting the windshield to cause a crack.

Windshield cracked down the middle while driving on a clear day and nothing seemed to have hit the window

Windshield cracked on passenger side from beneath the wiper blade up about 12-15 inches. Very small chip about 2 inches from the bottom of the windshield along the crack. Do not remember being hit by debris. Even so it would have been a very small pebble and i believe it should not have caused the windshield to crack. Seems extremely weak. Not sure if the new 2020 outbacks have the same windshield issue as the 2017-2019 but it seems to have a lot of similarities with many other consumers and the class action lawsuits against subaru for this reason.

Windshield spontaneously cracked overnight. No marking of rock or any damage.

Our windshield cracked for no apparent reason. The car is only a few months old and has 4000 miles on it. I noticed the crack while the car was in our garage. I seems to have happened while the car was stationary. This seems like a manufacturing defect. I need to contact the subaru dealer to see what they say.

Windshield had a crack, that i thought was weird as i didn't hear a rock, but a crack. I saw that 2020 subaru outbacks had a lawsuit for defect. I found out weeks after i made an insurance claim to have my windshield fixed. I was driving on a highway when this happened.

Windshield chipped very easily

Windshield has chipped 3 times in the last month as of 4/7/21 on our 2020 outback, from extremely light and tiny road debris/rock strikes. Now has a 4th, larger chip near the base of the windshield with a 18" crack that grew over the course of a few hours. All occurred while in motion on highways. All during mild weather. All were from rocks almost too small to see. The same thing happened with our 2018 subaru. Subaru now offers windshield coverage at additional charge. Salesman noted that it was "because they use thinner glass due to the eyesight system". This would suggest subaru knows there is a problem.

A large crack formed on the driver side at eye level. I've never seen a windshield break so suddenly and abruptly while driving. It distracted me for about 10 seconds as i was watching the crack get larger. I was driving at 50 miles per hour on the adaptive cruise control. The cruise control lost visibility and turned off immediately. From my understanding the windshields are made to meet the minimum requirements to save costs. Subaru does not cover windshields and the eye sight calibration is way too expensive for me to take on personally. A company whose reputation is built on safety should not be cutting corners on the windshields.

The windshield developed a crack sitting in the garage after returning from a 10 mile drive. Two hours after having parked the car without any visible damage, a 10 inch crack was visible originating from the upper left corner. The crack has grown to about 24 inches over the next day.

The windshield developed a crack for no apparent reason. The crack was noticed after the car had been stationary for more than 24 hours.

Parked in driveway. Windshield spontaneously cracked.no rock hits or chips.

Spontaneous crack of the windshield. Highway driving, hot day and a small crack appeared (there was no pebble or debris that hit the windshield).you know what happens next... The crack grew and grew and grew.i see this has been a problem with others and wanted to report my experience.

I got into my car one morning and the wind shield was cracked at the mid/lower bottom. Glass shards were present in 1 location and over time the crack spread and another location w/ chips/shards was present.

This is the second cracked windshield i have had to replace with this car in a little over a year of ownership and 18k miles. It started as a tiny rock chip below the windshield wiper and turned into a 12+ inch crack within a day. I don't remember when the tiny rock hit my windshield, but the fact that i am now on my 3rd. Windshield should point to some sort of issue with the manufacturer. The windshield replacement and reprograming of the safety components totals $1,400 and can only be done by the dealer.

Today, 7/11/2021 my 3rd oem subaru windshield cracked spontaneously, while driving.all windshields were replaced at beardmore subaru, in belleville, ne using subaru replacement windshields.in all instances the windshield has cracked spontaneously without impact on either the passenger side orat the bottom of the windshield, near the middle. The cracks continue to propagate quickly while driving or when parked overnight, until the crack terminates on the side opposite the crack.this spontaneous cracking, is a safety hazard in that it not only compromises the integrity of the glass, but also can affect the subaru eyesight safety vision system, by impairing camera view thru the windshield if a crack propagates through the cameras field of view.this new instance means that in less than 10,000 miles i have had 4 windshields in this car.i have never had this occur on any vehicle i have owned previously, nor to our 2017 outback.this appears to be a defect in subaru oem glass or the specifications subaru has engineered for the 2020 and up outback global platform.

Windshield cracked for no apparent or obvious reason. Was not struck by any object. The vehicle was moving.

A crack developed in the front passenger side window for no known reason. Over the a single day it had increased to a crack running all the way from the bottom of the window to the top. The crack was first noticed when the vehicle was parked and then increased to cover the height of the window within 10 minutes of driving on a smooth road.

Our windshield cracked and the crack ran in a matter of minutes.i expect a broken windshield from time to time but this seemed very abnormal. The windshield was less than 6 months old and the small chip occurred after a tiny, tiny rock hit the windshield. This was weird because after years of driving in colorado small debri hit our windows all the time but never cause any damage. Then the chip ran all the way across the window in a matter of hours. It wasn't even cold or hot, it just freakishly ran across the window. Something just doesn't seem right for a new window to fracture like this so quickly.

My car was parked and i discovered about a foot long crack in my windshield. There does not appear to be a reason for cause, no chips in my windshield or accidents with the car. It's mostly garage kept and has less than 12000 miles over 14 months of ownership.

The windshield just cracked when it was parked in an open parking lot.

Got into my vehicle and noticed a large crack in the windshield. It had been sitting unused parked in front of our home when i noticed the crack. It wasn't after a collision or from something hitting it while i was driving.

I woke up on friday, march 6th to see my car's windshield had cracked overnight while it was sitting in the garage. This crack was not there when i parked it the night before.my dealership does not believe me and says a stone hit it but no stone hit the windshield since i drove it off the car lot on monday, march 2nd. I had the defrosters on for about 2 hours thursday, march 5th. This is a brand new lease with only 200 miles on it as of friday, march 6th when the crack was noticed.

2020 subaru outback purchased in january 2020 has had to have windshield replaced twice.i have owned dozens of vehicles and never had to replace a windshield more than once even on vehicles i owned for 10 - 15 years.the windshields clearly are defective as evidenced by the many complaints regarding windshields for multiple subaru models over several years.

When driving down the road windshield just started cracking on passenger side from below the windshield wiper below the window trim. Within minutes it went from a 3-4 inch crack to encompassing the majority of the right side of the window. This is the second incident with this windshield. In december a small pebble barely tapped this driver's side and caused an instant gouge.

Front windshield cracked on drivers side for no apparent reason. Vehicle was in motion. No objects hit vehicle.

Today (26 december2020) as i parked my 2020 subaru outback in a business parking lot, for the third time in just four months i noticed my windshield starting to crack for no apparent reason. There were no vehicles, road debris , or winds to cause this. This is the third cracked windshield on my new subaru in four months for no apparent reason. Subaru has a problem! i have driven over 1.5 million miles in forty-plus plus years, and never in all the different manufacturers and models of vehicles have i ever had issues like this!

I was sitting in my car, waiting for someone to bring out something. The car only had just over 100 miles on it, and i'd only driven it 3 times (including this one) when suddenly there was a crack sound and a large (1'-1.5') curved crack appeared on the passenger side of the windshield. I called my dealership (the car was a week in my possession the day this happened) and told them what had happened. Immediately they began telling me that i must have been hit by a rock. I told them that i wasn't moving and they said to bring it in. When i arrived the woman who 'handles all their glass claims' told me that a rock had hit my windshield. I told her again that it had not, that i had not been moving, and that the only time the car was not being driven by me, was when the dealership had it, and that at no time that it was in my possession did a rock hit it. She insisted that the cracks don't just happen on their own and that a rock must have hit it.

Single rock chip to windshield of 2020 subaru outback limited xt while driving on highway resulted not just in chip but immediate multiple extending cracks spanning most of length of the windshield. Have noted ongoing class-action lawsuit over this issue.

Driving and noticed a crack on my windshield. As i continued to drive i can hear the glass making cracking sounds and the crack started to spread fast across the windshield. Did not drive vehicle for over 2 weeks and crack grew within the time frame.

Windshield cracked without a reason.car parked at night.next morning windshield cracked without any sign of an impact

The windshield spontaneously cracked for no reason.when returning home, noticed a 15 inch crack rising from the lower passenger-side edge of the windshield, rising under the wipers and towards the center of the windshield.the car had previously been parked outdoors under overcast skies (not hot), and there was no impact to the windshield while driving.(nor do i recall any windshield impacts at any time since purchasing the car)the crack simply appeared.it was not present 10 minutes prior when my son got into the car.

While driving north on a straight stretch of i-15 in montana on a sunday afternoon around 6:30pm the front windshield of my 2020 subaru outbackrandomly cracked from low on thepassenger side to the middle of the windshield below the rear view mirror. There were no other cars on the road and there was no noticeable impact to the windshield. Road conditions seemed smooth at the time of the crack and the weather was clear around mid 40 degrees f. The car had been running for several hours so the inside temperature should have been stable with no wild temperature swings. Inspection of the windshield after the event shows no signs of chips or impacts near the crack.the car has approximately 6,000 miles on it withno other mechanical issues noted.

On 4/01/2021 the windshield cracked while the car was parked inside my garage for some unknown reason. After a 650 mile drive with no impacts to windshield or perceptible cracks, parked the car overnight. In the morning, a crack haddeveloped from the lower driver side of the windshield moving up and to the passenger side. With no further driving, the crack continued to grow toward the passenger side, splitting into two cracks. The spontaneous crack is in the eyeline. The vehicle was stationary when the crack formed and has been stationary as the crack has grown. See pictures. One photo is when first developed, (december 14, 2020) second in on december 30, 2020 after no driving and the car remaining stationary from the 14th)..

It was along the passenger side, about 10"-12" above the dashboard, and went all the way to the passenger side edge of the windshield.there was a vehicle ahead of me, maybe 1/4 mile ahead.as i kept driving, it grew a little more towards the middle of the windshield.this is the third time this has happened to this vehicle, as the previous owner had to get the windshield replaced twice in the past 6 months.

My windshield spontaneously cracked. No object hit it. Started as one inch line. By the time i left work it was a foot and a half in length. Dealer said there was obvious rock impact. I did not take a picture when i got to work because i was late. Figured i could do it after work then it had grown. I refuse to buy another subaru windshield. This happened with less than 5000 miles

Windshield has cracked twice within 15 months. Both cracks started as small chips and quickly (within hours) turned into large cracks spanning the majority of the windshield. Both chips occurred while driving on highway.

While driving on the highway at 60 mph, our windshield on the driver's side experienced a "bullseye" defect without any sound of a projectile hitting the windshield.while continuing to drive within 10 minutes, this defect then "cracked" further extending in opposite directions covering roughly a 15 inch span.our dealer, north country imports, 616 quaker road, queensbury, ny,was contacted.they stated they were not aware of any history of the 2020 subaru outback having a windshield issue.online we were able to find that there has been a class action lawsuit regarding this.we purchased the car 2 weeks prior this incident.at the time of purchase we were not told of any potential issues with the windshield and were not asked to sign any waiver concerning the lawsuit.although the dealer has coverage for windshield repair, "subaru equity shield optimum vehicle protection", we were not offered this protection at the time of sale.when we called the dealer we were dealt with in a hostile manner by the manager who would not disclose his name before hanging up on us.prior to terminating the call he reiterated that he was not aware of any known defect in the windshields and referred us to our insurance company.

I purchased a 2020 subaru outback xt in march 2020 (approximately 14 months of driving at the time of this submission).the vehicle currently has almost 15k miles on it.i recently had my fourth (4th!) windshield installed.the first replacement windshield was installed after a pebble the size of a grain of rice (i saw kicked up by a truck in front of me) hit the windshield and caused a large lateral crack the propagated.the vehicle had approximately 1500 miles at the point.the first replacement (oem) cracked after hitting another pebble on the highway.i did not see the size this time because it was on the part of the windshield obstructed by the side posts on the outside of the windshield.the crack propagated horizontally across the entire windshield.this occurred at approximately 8k miles.the second replacement (aftermarket made to oem specs) cracked after hitting a bug!a picture taken immediately after bug impact is attached below.the crack propagated in a y-formation and needed replacement.although cicadas have recently begun coming out, this was not an overly large bug.it was approximately the size of a lightning bug, as i saw it hit.i also drive a vw golf with 50k miles (over 5 years) and have never had a windshield issue.

There is a crack in the windshield that basically appeared over night. It wasn't there when we parked it in the garage in the evening and then i noticed it the next day when i got out. It starts from the edge of the glass and there are even shards of glass coming out in one spot. We would have remembered a rock hitting us as our car is only a couple of months old...my first brand new purchase. The crack now goes completely across the windshield.

I have a 2020 outback limited and the front windshield has cracked twice on it while driving on i-75 in tn. Both times a small stone kicked up by a passing car hit the windshield and before i could get it checked out by safelite; it cracked horizontally. I had the windshield replaced and paid $1035 to have it replaced by a subaru dealer and less than two weeks later, another small stone kicked up by a crv passing me hit the new subaru windshield. Again, it immediately cracked horizontally and now i will have it replaced a second time. There is appears to be something wrong with the quality of the glass:too thin?due to the eyesight system needing a very optically pure glass; perhaps the glass is too thin. But the quality of the subaru front windshield glass needs to be looked into. (i was driving at 70 mph in very light traffic. No trucks in area.

Windshield spontaneously cracked. On 12/30/2020 my wife and i drove up into mountains to spend new years eve camping. Ascent was 6000+ feet with a sharp temperature change. Two cracks appeared below the windshield wipers, then joined into one and spread further up the windshield. The crack seemed to occur shortly after turning on the defrost function. We noticed the crack while stopped. Nothing hit the windshield. I took the car to our dealer, bob baker subary in carlsbad, ca, but they denied any responsibility for the crack. The service manager said it was from a rock and he could tell because he has 35 years of experience. Yet he failed to ask a single question of when, where or how it occurred.

The windshield on my outback cracked with no warning or impact.i had pulled out of my driveway and was just beginning to move forward on my street when i heard a sound in the cabin.i didn't know what it was but looked around as i reached a nearby stop sign.there is a large y-shaped crack from the top of my windshield, partially hidden by the rear view mirror.

The front window cracked for no apparent reason. The crack started about a third of the way up the window, in a j shape fashion. Very narrow crack. The car was in my garage when i went out to start it i saw the crack. Had not been there before but the eye sight system was malfunctioning the day before when driving the car.

Front windshield cracked halfway across the glass after a pebble kicked up while driving on the highway. The crack spidered out on its own across the entire front windshield within five hours. Camera on windshield now has to be recalibrated otherwise will not function properly.

Windshield cracked while on the freeway.i don't think anything hit it, we were driving at 75 mph when we heard a crack, and instantly a crack went from the bottom left side of the windshield in an upward direction almost all the way across the center of the glass.the glass at the bottom left side where the crack started is broken deeply into the glass and may be all the way through.we are concerned that if a large rock hit the windshield it would break apart and fall into the car.i brought the car to the subaru dealer we purchased the car from. The service manager looked at it and instantly said, rock hit, not covered and wouldn't talk to us after that.the car has less than 10,000 miles.

Poor rear camera visibility, leading me to nearly hit gas pumps

600 miles on a brand new 2020 outback and i heard a pop while driving on the interstate and my windshield cracked from the edge prob 8 inches in.i did not see a rock and it didn't sound like a rock.it's a straight line. No break like something hit it or anything.spontaneous while driving.

My husband and i were driving on the highway for approximately 20 minutes, when we started to hear a crackling sound.soon after, we watched the windshield start to crack on the driver's side. The crack continued to spread, and by the time we returned home, the crack extended further.we were driving straight at 61 mph when the crack started, no turns or bumps in the road at the time the crack appeared.this happened on our 2020 outback touring with 2,300 miles, that we purchased october 2020.

Within 12 hours of having the car, the windshield cracked for seemingly no reason. No rock hit the windshield nor was i using air conditioning or the heater. Outside temp was about 65f. I was driving on the freeway at 65 mph.

Purchased new and front windshield spontaneously cracked in multiple directions overnight. No impact evidence at the center of the crack. Noticed online that many outback owners are reporting this same problem. Not sure if itā€™s a defective windshield or body flex which caused windshield to flex and crack. I expect the windshield to be replaced by subaru at no charge.

Windshield started cracking from below the wipe trim and keeps cracking. Was driving up donner summit hwy 80.traveling approximately 60 mph. Temperature in 20's elevation gain to near 6500 feet. Some sleet snow wipers in use. Noticed crack after storm cleared. Crack happened from no known impact. Didn't hear any rock impact.

Four weeks after purchasing the new vehicle, i noticed a small crack appeared in the bottom of the windshield on the passenger side of the vehicle. It continued to crack for about 6 more inches. I have now ordered a new windshield to replace the broken one. The vehicle was stationary when i noticed the crack initially.

Vehicle was parked when windshield cracked. There was no previous damage to the windshield before cracking. Crack begain on the drivers side lower portion where the windshield was painted. Ongoing issue with 2020 subaru outback windshields.

Came outside to get into the vehicle and saw that windshield was cracked.had not driven it the previous day, the nearest house is over an acre away. We have no children.no idea why it would crack because we weren't driving it and there was no one around to damage it and it had been sitting for over 36 hours.

On one of my first times driving my new car to work on my morning commute i was traveling at a normal rate of speed and with a lot of distance from the car in front of me i heard a crack and saw the windshield beginning to show signs of a straight crack. That was december 15, 2020. Now on may 19, 2021 i have a crack from the far right side of the windshield and runs to the initial location, about 70% across my windshield.

Windshield cracked while driving down highway. No other vehicles on the road

We were driving on a highway and noticed that the window had a small crack without hearing a rock or pebble hit the window.over next few days the crack went across the window.it seems like the windows are too prone to cracks and crack more easily than they should.subaru replaced the windshield at no cost to us which we were happy about, but wanted to document that it seems they have more fragile windshields in case this happens again.

Windshield cracked spontaneously while in garage overnight.

While parked in a stationary position in a private parking lot for approximately 12 hours overnight, the windshield cracked in an "s" shape from the left edge all the way to just a few inches short of the center.

My vehicle had been parked, in a safe place, at my residence for approximately 3 days.one morning, i discovered a crack in the windshield which began on the passenger side, runs in a smooth line, making a turn upward and continues across the windshield and stops close to the center.the car had not been struck by a projectile or anything the last time i had driven it.there is no "spider-webbing" or marks that would be consistent with it getting hit.

I was driving down a paved road when i heard a noise and realized i had a chip in my windshield. There were not cars around me and didn't see anything fly at my windshield. The road is in a residential/business neighborhood. The chip has not grown since then. I don't remember the exact datei've also noticed after going through a car wash my windshield will look clean for but by the end of the day it's looks dirty with little specks all over it again. It doesn't matter what the weather is.

I purchased a 2020 subaru outback one week ago (jan 30, 2020) today i have 700 miles and after hearing of charges against subaru for producing defective windshields i inspected mine andi noticed a 2' long windshield crack on lower drivers side.i'm concerned that it may spread later to impede my vision, but wanted to go on record that this defect exists.

I was driving on the freeway at around 55mph and the windshield suddenly developed a crack on it's own without anything other than air/wind hitting the windshield. The crack seems to have started at the left edge of the windshield on driver's side.

I bought car home on jan 2. On jan 4th i woke up and discovered the windshield had cracked over night for no reason that we could find. The car had been parked all night in a drive way and no other damage or anything was apparent.it just got about 10 degree colder during the night then normal.

On 9/27/2021 i bought a new 2020 suburu outback from camelback suburu in phoenix az. We have now had two windshields crack starting from the left a pillar and continue across the rest of the windshield in short order. Both windshields cracked from the same spot without any cause, ie rocks etc. The dealership is claiming it is from rocks. Absolutely not. I believe they know exactly what is going on and are defrauding me out of a legitimate manufacturers warranty claim. I have talked with my insurance agent and this will be an issue with them with two claims iin such a short time.

I went into a store.when i came out, there was a s shaped crack in the windshield, starting on the passenger side.no cars were parked near mine.the crack seemed to appear spontaneously.

Subaru windshield continues to crack under suspect conditions. I am now on my third windshield in the first 5,000 miles of ownership. The first windshield cracked spontaneously while driving with no other cars around. The second windshield cracked when a miniscule rock hit it while driving. It is dangerous to have such weak glass in a modern car. There is no reason that windshields should be cracking this frequently.

I was moving vehicle into garage when i heard a "pop".i saw a crack about 2/3rds up on the right side of the windshield.crack started from the edge of the glass and is propagating towards moving towards the center.

My 2020 subaru touring outback's windshield cracked as it was parked at home in my driveway. This occurred on march 6th 2021.the crack in goes about half way across the windshield in the line of sight as i drive it.it had not been on the road at all that day. I drove it the day before and there was no crack or chip present.i believe this to be the result of a defective windshield and a hazard while i am driving as it impaired my line of sight.the repair was over $1000, but my deductible was $50 from geico.

A 12-inch ling crack developed spontaneously in the windshield while the car was parked in my driveway overnight. Only ~3,470 miles on the car. The crack started at the bottom-middle and went upward and toward the passenger side in a j shape. There were no signs of an impact to me, but the dealer said they was signs of impact so it would not be repaired under warranty.

The morning of march 26 i noticed an approximately 8-inch-long crack on the passenger's side of the windshield.by the end of the day the crack had spread to almost the entire passenger side of the windshield.the car had been sitting in the driveway the previous day and there was no noticeable rock impact.at the time the car had 3600 miles on it and had been owned for 2.5 months.local dealer (herb gordon subaru in silver spring, md) graciously covered the replacement and recalibration of eye-sight cameras.

The windshield cracked while in motion - it seems like something tiny might've hit the car but i was going slowly at less than 40mph and it was not anything large. There was a tiny spot but this quickly cracked into a large line only a few minutes later.

Returned to car found front windshield cracked. No event occurred to my recollection to cause this

I leased my 2020 outback 5 months ago and this is the second time the windshield easily cracks after a small object hit the glass and made a low subtle noise. I have encountered scenarios as such previously with other non-subaru brand cars and none of the windshields cracked. Clearly the quality of the glass is terrible and defective. There even seems to be a big class action lawsuit regarding subaru windshields.

Cracked windshield which we had repaired on 10/1/2020 for $821.71.crack appeared seemingly from nowhere on the morning of 9/22/20.

The windshield on our 2020 subaru outback was not cracked when i parked it in the garage one night. The next afternoon when we got in to drive to the grocery store, the windshield had an unexpected crack approximately 14 inches long, on the passenger side, about 1/3 of the way down from the top, going horizontally across the windshield. This crack came seemingly out of nowhere. The vehicle seems to have been stationary when this occurred. We have had the car for about six months. This crack appeared on sunday and is huge, we will need the windshield replaced.

A small rock hit the windshield while driving on a highway, and the next morning a massive crack appeared.

Vehicle has under 12k miles and this is the 3rd windshield that has spontaneously has cracked

On 04/09/2020 the windshield spontaneously cracked across the lower right side while sitting in our garage.there was a very small etch that could have been caused by a small rock however we were never aware of a rock hitting the windshield.the first indication was the large crack after sitting in the garage over night.this windshield was replaced with new. On 07/26/2021 the windshield spontaneously cracked again, while driving, starting at the lower center and then immediately spreading across to the left side.there was no indication of a rock hitting the windshield though there is a small etch at the crack start point.i have had several windshields hit by rock which always only left at most a small crack at the hit point and never broke across the whole windshield like these two incidents.both incidents resulted in distorted vision making driving dangerous.

The windshield cracked for no apparentreason.the car was parked in the driveway for about 24 hours.i noticed the windshield was cracked when i got into the car.

2 oem windshields in a row - the one that came with the car and a replacement, have both had cracks of over 24 inches with multiple fracture lines all stemming from one tiny rock hitting the windshield and leaving a pit. The vehicle was in motion on the interstate both times the small rocks struck the windshield and created the pits that later turned into the large cracks.

I was on a four lane road (university avenue in evansville, in - northbound) and my windshield just popped and crack on my way home from work this morning.i was more than 10 car lengths from the vehicle in front of me and i did not see anything hit my windshield or anything come from the vehicle in front of me.

Windshield formed a large crack at 2495 miles (approx. 2/15/20) from left bottom corner to center above driver position.only indicated cause a 1/8 inch shallow scratch.windshield again cracked, almost identical size and position at 8934 miles (approx.4/20/21), only indicated damage a small pit at left bottom. Cracks only appeared after sitting overnight in garage---nothing noticed prior.emailwith gm at dealer produced no response.total cost of replacements$979.10.no damage to windshields of 2 other vehicles driven on the same routes.in my opinion, both windshield marks were extremely minor and should not have produced windshield failure.

The vehicle experienced a ~12" crack vertical crack in the windshield. The vehicle was parked and stationary when the windshield cracked. No known pebble, rock, or debris was known to have stuck the windshield. There was a relatively loud "pop" sound and the crack appeared in the windshield. The crack extends from about halfway up the windshield down to the bottom of the black section of glass that supports the windshield wipers (visible but less obvious in the photo than the crack through the transparent section of the glass). The vehicle was ~4 months old (purchased new) at the time the windshield cracked. Outdoor temperatures ranged from ~15 to 35 degrees fahrenheit at the time the windshield cracked.

While driving approximately 35 mph in my new 2020 subaru outback with about 2200 miles on a freshly slurry-coated road i saw a small pebble sized object tossed in the air by the oncoming traffic and land just inside the edge of the driver side windshield. There was a sharp pop - like a .22 - and a 4 inch crack appeared. I continued to drive home and the crack appeared to be stable. I parked the car and got some rest. 9 hours later i went outside and found the crack had progressed to the center of my windshield. When i came upon this site i decided to document the incident in an effort to warn others that this is not an isolated incident and subaru should be taking this seriously.

A tiny rock chip turned into a large crack in my windshield. The chip happened while driving on the highway any highway speeds but was very minor. While driving the same days, same trip a large crack developed with the following hour and continues to grow. All while driving. This is newer car with only 11k miles. I have never had a tiny chip on windshield end up being a huge crack that keeps growing all within a few hours of driving on the same day/trip.

While driving at 30 mph the windscreen cracked for no apparent reason. An object did not hit the windscreen. I have since replaced the windscreen at safelite with an oem subaru windscreen and recalibrated the advanced driver safety system costing more than $1,000. There have been several reports of faults in subaru outback 2020 windscreens with a pending class action lawsuit. I want to report my experience

Sitting stationary in the driveway, a large crack spontaneously began and extended across the windshield. The damage and circumstances are consistent with current class action legal filings from many, many vehicle owners who have had similar experiences with recent subaru windshields.

Driving on interstate at highways speeds, small pebble (most likely) struck windshield, could not see the pebble, was not very loud. Seemed insignificant but when i arrived at my destination 10 minutes later cracks had started emanating from the spot where the pebble struck. I've never seen a windshield break so easily, stuff gets kicked up all the time on this interstate.

Today 12-3-20 we were driving on i-95 in florida to see my son for the 1st time in over a year (air force). Small road particles were stirred up from the road, (not anything large, you barely heard it hit the windshield, almost like sand) and then we heard a cracking sound, looked at our windshield and there is about a 9 inch crack all of the way to the bottom toward wipers, up towards the top. I'm 40 years old and have never had a windshield crack, must less like this over such road small particles. About 3 months ago, i was driving on i85 to work, and the same thing happened but i chalked it up to maybe the debris was larger than i thought. Today my husband, son, and niece were sin the car with me...and frankly i am concerned that if anything large ever hits this windshield, it will shatter, or the item will come through the windshield. So i do. It feel safe driving the vehicle for this very reason. A windshield is supposed to protect and i am not confident or convinced at this point at all that this one on my 2020 outback would stand a chance at any midsize road hazard. Before upgrading to the outback, i had a 2016 crosstrek and had a 'large rock' hit my windshield, when it did it scared me it hit so hard....all that was left after that massive rick hit was a small half moon shaped chip. This 2020 outback could in no way take an impact like that one. It could severely hurt me or whomever is driving, including my 16 year old son if the windshield were to shatter if it is hit again. This needs to be recalled and replaced.for subaru, all about safety, it is a serious issue that as a loyal subaru owner has me questioning the mission statements and heartfelt commercials that we see daily. Make it right subaru. Fix it!!

My wife and i were sitting in our car at a red light stationary and the windshield cracked from the base up about 10 in long for no apparent reason. There was no damage prior to the event.

Cracked windshield for no apparent reason. Parked the car in the garage with no crack in the window came out in the morning and windshield was cracked.dealership will not coverunder warranty.

Front windshield has multiple pits on it after only a few hundred miles of owning the vehicle. There have been no rocks hitting it. The vehicle is garage kept and barely driven. The concern is that the windshield will eventually crack.

Windshield cracked while driving on road.

Vehicle was in motion on the highway and a large crack, approximately 12 inches in length, appeared following impact with a very, very small piece of debris, 1 cm max diameter. Near immediately a second piece of debris, also 1 cm max diameter, caused an 8 inch crack in length on impactweather was warmer than usual that week, compared to preceding days. The vehicle was changing lanes when this happened. Never had an issue like this with any other vehicle.

While driving down the highway, my windshield spontaneously cracked from the top of the windshield down past the rear view mirror. I was hit by no rocks or any debris.

I had almost the exact same experience with my windshield as another complaint i saw filed. My 2020 subaru outback had its windshield cracked while traveling southbound on a highway in sc on dec 22, 2020. The crack started small and grew quickly over the course of my travel to about 16 - 18 inches. The windshield had to be replaced and the eyesight safety system needed to be recalibrated which was both time consuming and expensive. I have traveled a lot in my life with multiple cars but never experienced a cracked windshield that spreaded like it did with my new outback. It is disappointing and concerning after reading more about the pending lawsuit on defective windshields.

The windshield cracked just a few hours after applying crystal fusion to protect the windshield. It started raining after it was applied. We went to dinner, and when we came back to the parked vehicle, there was an approximate 6" crack, on the left, driver's side, from the edge of the windshield.

A large crack (10") appeared in our windshield while driving on the highway with no apparent impact from any debris on our new outback

My 2nd subaru outback in 3.5 years, and it is the 3rd time i have to replace a windshield (?!) this time it is only in 4 months old car, 2020 model. I was not even driving when i noticed the windshield crack popping up - i was parked in front of my home, just started the car to warm it up. Lower section in front of the driver's seat, slightly towards the center. I inspected the area on the bottom of the windshield where it appeared the first - no apparent impact of the rock or some other flying object. It seems like the gap on the crack is about 1/2 mm wide - like the pressure from the inside is to blame for the crack? (see the pictures). Other people i know that own (or have owned) outbacks also had their windshield cracking. I googled it ' i see the information about class action lawsuit on the web. Https://www.torquenews.com/1084/new-ruling-subaru-cracked-windshield-lawsuit-now-adds-25m-carssomething is just not right here. Subaru needs to step up and own it, before something happens to one of their customers.

Windshield cracked from the bottom of windshield. I had complained to the the dealer. They won't help me and said it is rock chip. It was in the parking mode when it start to crack itself.

Drove car on wednesday (2/17/21) and parked in my garage.went to drive car on friday and saw i had an l shaped crack in the windshield from passenger pillar across and down the windshield.no ding is felt on the outside of the windshield.

There was a tiny rock chip that was about 7 inches from the bottom of the windshield in the center. I was at a complete stop and it cracked. About 14 inches from that chip across then down. It also spidered up about 7 inches. So now my whole windshield will need to be replaced. There is no way that little of a crack could spider crack like that. Mind you, i have an appointment tomorrow morning to get the chip filled. I was planning on taking care of it but now i will need a whole new one.

Rear camera poor image quality. The back-up camera is that it gets fairly grainy in light rain and/or at night. Not very clear and i don't see any settings anywhere. It looks like a very old camera lacking lighting and you also see the "grain" of the image.

In the morning we discovered a 10-inch long crack in our windshield. The vehicle had been parked in our garage over 10 hours. We filed an insurance claim presuming a rock had hit the windshield but neither driver recalled such an occurrence.

I got in my car one morning and noticed a crack on the passenger side of the windshield. The crack was on the outside of the vehicle and originated from the very bottom of the glass. It has been a week or so, and the crack continues to grow everyday.

Yesterday morning (car is parked), i discovered a crack that is about 4 inches long on my windshield and have gotten longer throughout the day and today. Currently, it is about 26 inches across the middle. I live in an apartment and have personal parking where are there open parking and not parked under a tree or anything that would have fallen on the windshield. There are no spiderweb crack or signs (like a rock being thrown..etc) that would indicate the windshield to crack. I called my dealership and was told that it was not covered under warranty nor was it recalled; even though there are numerous cases i've found online that many 2020 outback owners (and other subaru owners) have experienced cracked windshield for no apparent reason. I just bought this vehicle on 29feb2020; there is no way that a windshield would crack so suddenly unless it was not installed correctly or defective/due to heating element.

Windshield cracked way too easily.

2020 subaru outback.cracker windshield from a pebble nick.not a rock.

My 2020 subaru outback had small windshield crack for no reason just after 2 months of purchasing. It was not using for some days and was in my apartment parking lot. The dealership has fixed the problem for no cost but it looks like low quality windshield fits on the car from factory.

The windshield cracked without impact, while in park position in a parking lot. The crack is in a "u" shape with the top of the u at the top of the windshield. The crack is on the passenger side.

Driving north on the interstate with no other vehicles on the road. Windshield spontaneously cracked from passenger side defrost to middle of windshield. Took the car into the dealer, and they claimed a rock hit it because they could run their fingernail into the crack. I strongly disagree with subaruā€™s maintenance division as i was there when it happened and there is no chip or star shaped damage from an impact of any object. The crack quickly spread across the entire length of the windshield.

Windshield in my 2020 subaru outback seems to be made of fake glass, soft or thin glass that is extremely susceptible to rock chips and glass breakage. Have had the new subaru a little over a month (2600 miles) and already have had 3 rock chips on the windshield. It seems like even the smallest piece of rock causes the glass to chip. Compared to my other 3 vehicles these rock chips occur much more frequently. It happens when following or meeting other vehicles when the tires of those vehicles throw up small rock pieces. All 3 occurrenceswere while driving on paved, 2 lane highways. It's not just a case of bad luck as my 2016 subaru also had the same problem.it's fake glass. It obstructs vision until you can get the rock chips repaired or the windshield replaced.

Windshield spontaneously cracked overnight while not in use within 6 weeks of purchasing new 2020 outback. Crack has progressed to span entire windshield.

A few minutes into a drive through our neighborhood (after 9pm) we noticed a small crack appear in the middle bottom of the windshield. Right before our eyes we watched it grow from a couple of inches to about 10 inches in length. It only took a minute or two for this to happen. We never drove over 25 mph. There were no other cars on the streets. There was northing around that could have hit our windshield. It happened all by itself. 32 years of driving many vehicles and i never had this happen before. The picture was taken at night right after as we went straight home. Hard to see the entire length because of the night picture. Not sure how much bigger the crack could have gotten. Luckily we were close to home and not driving on the highway at a higher speed.

Driving on the interstate (64) and got a small chip (about the size of my pinky nail) from a rock/ pebble in lower left area of windshield. Parked the car at home. Chip was stable. The next morning the chip now has a crack across the windshield horizontally about two thirds of the way. The dealership (casey subaru) has replaced the windshield. It has cost me $730 out of pocket which is to be refunded to me from both my insurance company ($230) and the dealership ($500). I purchased an extended warranty from casey. I was told that chips no more than one half inch are covered. But not cracks.thank you, scott.

Car hasn't been driven in weeks and has been safely storedon my property. Got the car out to wash it and i noticed a chip developed in the windshield. Not only that, but an incredibly unusual swirl developed in the glass that cannot be cleaned from inside or out. Photo attached. Looks like something between the layers of glass.filed a claim and my insurance sent out safelite to fill the chip. Swirl is still there. Seems unsafe.

I was driving down the interstate with no cars around and my outback windshield cracked. I was far enough away from cars and i didnā€™t see anything hit the window. I heard a loud pop. A soft but quick pop, not like the sound of a rock hitting but different. Then i drove on down the road and saw a large crack forming from the bottom of the passenger side of the window. And thereā€™s no dimple anywhere in the crack.
