The contact owned a 2015 subaru outback. While driving approximately 28 mph, the contact fell sleep and struck a guardrail head on. The front air bags did not deploy. A police report was filed and there were no injuries. The insurance company towed the vehicle to their lot and declared it destroyed. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and provided case number: 1-286-495891121. The approximate failure mileage was 43,000.

Plate gfn9291, subaru re:(#:1-11519581273)

We took delivery of this vehicle on 1/2/2015.it is a 2.5 limited model with eyesight, navigation and keyless ignition.on the day of delivery, the entire electrical system failed and the ignition did not work.the car was returned to the dealer who checked the battery and found nothing wrong.a few weeks later, the same problem occurred.after five minutes, the problem resolved itself.the car was again taken to the dealer who indicated that the problem had been fixed (loose wire/fuse).today (2/16/2015), the electrical system partially failed.while the ignition worked and some warning lights illuminated (including the air bag warning light).the entire center panel of controls (radio, navigation, climate control, etc.) was disabled.we are concerned because the eyesight system controls braking, acceleration, etc.the air bag warning light illumination is also a concern.we have seen that other subaru owners are reporting similar chronic issues with their new similarly configured vehicles.

Takata recall

This concerns a 2015 subaru outback limited 6 cylinder.at approx 21,000 mi i was slowing to speed to park in a public parking space on a city street and the outback sudden acceleration.the outback hit a city metal post/sign, jumped the curb and collided with a building and damaging a store front with great force.the airbags did not deploy and the automatic collision prevention failed to work.once before the car had an acceleration surge while driving a public city street at low speed but did not hit anything.prior to the accident i've also experienced slight hesitation in acceleration when i first accelerate from a stationary position and probably unrelated, the gear shift often gets stuck in park and i have to use force the gear shift to reverse.having trouble with turning neck from side to side and need to see doctor for evaluation so, not sure if this is considered injury?

Unexpected acceleration after parking, jump curb into tree, causing $7,000 in damage. Air bags did not deploy, both myself and passenger hit knees on dash, even with our seat belts still on. Had other computer issues earlier that day, back up sensors didn't work while backing car right behind mine. Car has now been at subaru for a month, waiting for engineers results after their inspection 2/14/2018

We built and bought a brand new 2015 subaru outback and we have experienced:- a constant sudden loss of eyesight system while cruising or sometimes just driving with no cruise control on.-gas release lever freezes up and we have to forcefully use a flat screwdriver to unlock the gas lid door.-pre collision warning brake system does not respond properly: we got so many close calls.- on march, 2020 ; the stability control system was not working properly on snowy/icy conditions : the car sled off and almost hit a guard rail, soon after that ; the steering wheel got too loose /wobbly and had a big gap while steering( almost no control over our car. We brought it to the dealership right away and the recalibrated, balanced and aligned the car for corrections.-last wednesday, on april,14,2021: my wife was driving one block away from home, at the traffic light intersection, while the trafficlight was green and she was trying to make a right turn to go home; her steering wheel got frozen on her when she was turning and by the time she tried to figure out how to react and control the car, her car already crashed into the pick up truck that was waiting on the other side of the intersection waiting for the light to change into green. The whole front of our subaru was crashed but no pre collision brakes, air bags were deployed at all.luckily, nobody got hurt on both sides. The firefighters, the sheriff , the trooper and the tow truck driver who used to be a cop were all flabbergasted of what they saw.we called subaru of america and opened a case, my car is scheduled for inspection at a subaru dealership on may 6th,2021.will see what happens next.they seem willing to address the problem and take responsibility for the damages. We found out that most of those issues were on recall but we never got a recall notification about them from subaru of america at all.thank you

The contact owns a 2015 subaru outback. The contact stated while driving at 20 mph, the brakes would not engage as the brake pedal was depressed. As a result, the vehicle rear-ended a parked vehicle on the side of the road. The air bags failed to deploy. A police report was not filed. Three of the passengers in the vehicle sustained head and neck injuries that required medical treatment. The vehicle was drivable and was taken to a local dealer where it has been for 5 months. The vehicle was diagnosed with nothing needing to be replaced. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure and referred the contact to the dealer to have the engineers look at the vehicle. The failure mileage was 56,000.

Takata recallwhen airbags deploy, they may spray metal debris toward vehicle occupants and may cause serious injury.

The contact owns a 2015 subaru outback. The contact stated that the back-up camera view was blocked by the sunlight. The contact stated that the glare was evident whether the sun roof was opened or closed. The glare prevented the driver to see clearly what was behind the vehicle. The dealer subaru of san bernardino (645 auto center dr, san bernardino, ca 92408 (877) 501-8065) was made aware of the issue but offered no solution to the issue. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was 45,000.

I have had 3 radios replaced in my 2015 outback, since 12-8-17 problems include , navigation going out, the siriusxm going out, now the replacement unit( both remanufactured) has a 'chirp' sound coming out of it when driving down the road on all channels. Very distracting as you look down at the dash to check for warnings, taking your eyes off the road.this replacement unit is less than a week old( replaced on 7-26-18. Subaru customer service contacted 8-1-18. First noticed on 7-29-17.

The vehicle eats batteries on a frequent basis.we are currently on the 4th high quality battery for the vehicle.we live in a rural area so we do not have short frequent trips that would impact a battery.we have had the dealer (redding subaru) check the system and they cannot find out why it goes through a battery every 12-16 months.all equipment on the vehicle is stock and none of our driving/storage conditions would impact a vehicle battery.our previous subaru's did not have this issue and our current toyota vehicle is on only its 3rd battery in over 12 years of service.there is obviously some "vampire" issue constantly draining the battery

The contact owns a 2015 subaru outback. The contact stated that while the vehicle was on, the front window defroster caused the front windshield to crack. The crack was located in the middle of the windshield and extended upward. Also, the contact indicated that the plastic exterior panel near the window melted. The cause of the failure was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 3,400...updated 06/09/15updated 9/28/2017

Poor battery life has always been a problem. Windshield crack showed up suddenly very recently, right after we got a class action lawsuit notification.the car has very low milage.

We recently purchased a new 2015 subaru 3.6 r outback (currently less than 600 miles) and the srvd (blind spot & rear cross traffic detection) system keeps malfunctioning. This happens when the vehicle is started and does not go away when driving. A small yellow " i " icon displays in the instrument cluster but is easy to overlook since there is no audible warning. The system starts working again if the car is stopped, and the engine is turned off and on - until of course the next random failure. This is a case of a "false negative" error, because the the side blind-spot mirrors indicate that the sides are clear to pass, when they may be not.it would have been preferable with a "false positive" error, namely the side blind-spot mirrors indicate that the sides are not clear to pass even if they are! what is truly alarming is that the dealer was not able to replicate the problem codes even after keeping the car overnight for further test drives. Since my family has come to rely on this safety system it is potentially a very serious hazard. I hope subaru takes this matter seriously and (unlike toyota) alerts all their customers immediately before it is too late, and comes up with a fix asap.

2015 subaru outback 3.6l mileage-58969.all lights flashing on dashboard, then some stop but many stay flashing.

We stopped to have lunch and 30 minutes later the car battery as dead or so it seemed as it wouldn't turn over.we had to call highway safety to come and he jumped it off.we got some an hour later and then we went to our son's house for another hour and when we tried to start it again it was dead.our son sorta rocked the car from side to side and then it would crank.on our wy home we stopped at the grocery store and got milk and then it was dead again.a man jumped it off again.nextday as we were taking the car to our subaru dealer it started right up.still we took it on in to our midland, tx dealer and they could find nothing wrong!we are elderly 87 and 83 and can't take much more of this kind of trouble.(nothing is wrong)we sat 3 hours in the sun on sat as we waited for road side service.please help.

2015 subaru outback battery fails to hold a charge.i was advised in january 2020 by the subaru dealership to replace the battery, which i did.the problem is now recurring and the car battery will not hold a charge over night.the dealership claims it does not know what the issue is. The car has become completely unreliable.

My car was parked at a pier. Got into car and would not start.did not seem like a battery issue, however, as it sounded as if it would start to turn over, but then just clicked off.then i pushed the button to the driver's seat window and it got stuck half way up, but the other windows were okay at that time.then the wheel locked up and the break would not budge.then after trying to turn the car on again, the other windows stopped working.each time before trying to start it again, i waited a few minutes.then after trying to start the car again, all the locks froze and we were stuck inside the vehicle!inside locks and lever did not work!luckily, the driver's seat window was stuck half way down, so i took my manual key out of the access key, and stuck my hand and arm out the window to open the car from the outside.it was also luck that my friend was with me, as she had to pull the inside knob at the same time (as i could not reach it) so i could open the door.then 2 men walked by and offered their assistance.where able to jump start the car and get it going.the problem still was not solved, however, as now my parking break was stuck on and i could not turn it off.then i inadvertently turned the car off, and it miraculously turned right back on and all software deficiencies were cleared so i was able to drive home.this all happened over a period of 5 hours, during which time i had called aaa for a tow, my ex-husband for a ride (as aaa would not allow my dog to ride in the tow truck) and i was 1hr 20 min from home which as the evening crept in, was slowly becoming an unsafe area and we were getting more and more scared.what if i had been alone?what if my window was not half way down?what if i had broken down in an unsafe place from the get go?this car is unsafe to drive!

I've had my 2015 outback for 3 years now (2020 now) i have had to replace the battery every year. The first year i believed it was time for a new battery, within 6 months my car died while i was driving into a parking lot. The entire electrical system shut down and i had to manually move it. My mechanic took apart my engine and discovered loose seals that had allowed many parts to rust over including broken brackets and a torque converter. Warranty won't cover any rust but did cover the $84 broken seal. I spent close to $3,000 on repairs and a new battery then. I was initially quoted from the dealership $6k. It has been 11 months and i left my car alone for 3 days and the battery is completely dead once again.

Two issues; the similarly reported electrical stop.started car on cold morning, drove short distance, dropped kids off at school.went to restart, and car was completely dead.had to jump it. Second issue;burning oil smell in cabin.oil level was fine, and smell not coming from tail pipe.took car to shop today for the oil smell, and i told them about the electrical stop.they said the electrical issue is related to needing to replace 4 relays.the oil smell, however, is due to a bad crankcase seal that they said failed most likely due to the cold.i found similar reports on subaruoutback.org/forums/

Parasitic battery failures:multiple events between july 2018 and january 2021. Battery & alternator were consistently found to be working correctly. Battery was replaced three times.one event had excessive battery percolation.the problem was caused by an after-market hum speed & location monitoring device placed in january 2018 and partially removed in october 2020. We did not know about the humattachment to the obdii port. The problem was finally fixed when an astute mechanic recognized that the failures were likely due to the remaining hum part attached to the obdii port. Logical it would draw down the outback undersized battery, which is well documented. So:advice to owners:do not attach after-market devices to your outback.remove connections like phone jacks as needed when the car is parked. And, if you have an unexplained dead battery problem, check the obdii port & remove any foreign devices or have your mechanic do so.

On 4 occasions the car battery has unexpectedly gone so low that it could not be started.on the second occasion (january 2022) the battery was replaced.on the third occasion (july 14, 2021) the battery was again replaced.on the fourth occasion (july 18, 2021) the battery was completely dead.it was necessary to use a mechanical key to enter the vehicle so that the hood could be raised.the battery has been recharged and a report will be made to the dealer for the second time tomorrow.

Bought this car used with low miles in 2019 from a subaru dealership.we have had intermittent issues dating back to late 2019, where returning to the car find that the battery is dead when we went to start it. It usually happens when the vehicle was left for 4 hours or more, although not always.after reading several reports of the same issue, we are going to try a new, larger battery.

The infotainment system freezes up about every other day and this has been happening again for the last month.rear backup camera stays on at times. Screen freezes and hard knob controls of infotainment system will not work when touch screen is frozen. This is the second module that has been installed due to these issues and problems continue.

Safety issue: car horn does not work (no sound) when driving straight ahead and steering wheel is straight. For horn to work i must turnthe steering wheel either to the right to the 2:00 o'clock position and beyond or to the left to the 10:00 o'clock positionand beyond.

Technician and service advisor informed me that a 80 pin connector that controls the head system had caught on fire and fused two connectors together.i used the hvac system on my way home from work and parked the vehicle in the garage.if this happened in the garage it could have resulted in a catastrophic house fire.

Battery discharging/not properly charging. Replaced with new battery in 2017 at dealer's recommendation. New battery continues to not store charge/discharge, including when the car is parked at a store or a parking for brief periods of time. This poses serious safety concerns, as i have no idea when and where my car would not start. This has occurred in excess of 20 times in the last 3 years, and i am forced to frequently replace the battery and to always have a jump starter in the car.

2015 subaru outback -and now on my 4th battery. One instance, i got stuck in a small town in nh and had to get a battery that was only 2 years old and battery guaranteed for 5 years.didn't know i had to bring it back to the mechanicback home so i ended up paying for another battery.8 months later battery died again.subaru said to bring it in and they will check it out.it is not warranted and it could take 2 hrs to 10 and i would pay for labor. They need to pay and fixa very well known problem.it has happened to friends who own suv,s, wagons and sedans..

Vehicle is equipped with subaru's "eye sight" system, which provides pre-collision braking and is involved with lane departure warning. The eye sight system in my car is intermittently inoperative while the car is in motion. Sometimes, the system begins working again, then turns off, turns on, etc.if eye sight is inoperative as the car comes to a full stop, the inoperative warning message usually disappears, but the message returns shortly after the car begins moving again.this has been happening every time the car is in motion for three weeks.

Two problems. 1. Replaced windshield three times in 15 months. Two were original subaru branded windshields. Original and industry replacement windshield are too brittle and thus unsafe. Any little pebble chips them and they always have a long crack within a few hours.2. Radio system does not always function properly. At times it scrolls down and we are unable to change channels or adjust the volume. The dealerwas made aware of the problem in july and would replace it since it is under warranty. Supplier has not responded to send part after four months.subaru is non responsive to our concerns.

3 years after the vehicle purchase the oem battery died. Replaced it with a well reviewed local brand. It is almost 3 years since the replacement battery and the subaru service rep said the battery is dying. I fear there is something wrong with the electrical system which damages the batteries over 3 years. I will be replacing the battery again, but what if 3 years later this one dies too? what if, because of the age of the car, the battery dies earlier? when i am on a road trip with family?i feel it is related to https://www.torquenews.com/1084/subaru-battery-lawsuit-new-information-outback-and-ascent-owners-should-know

Electrical problems have caused the battery to fail several times in four years. The car was purchased on june 5, 2015. Car failed to start on 9/30/16 and the main relay was replaced by the dealer. The battery was replaced three times by the dealer: on 12/5/16, 2/8/17, and 1/30/19 (including a software update on 1/30/19 to "increase battery life.")the latest battery (84 mo. 490cca) has failed recently on three occasions: 9/29/20 (twice) and 10/21/20, each requiring a jump start. On 9/29/20 the car was jump started, driven for twenty minutes, sat with the engine off for 30 minutes and driven five minutes more, was gassed up (engine off), driven five minutes, sat with the engine off for ten minutes and then required another jump start. The dealer has performed battery performance tests (some failed, some passed) but to the best of my knowledge has not checked components for failure to shut off, which could lead to battery drain.as instructed, i keep the key fob away from the car when not in use, so this appears to not be a factor.

The contact owns a 2015 subaru outback. The contact stated that there was a chemical odor in the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be inspected; however, the mechanic was unable to determine origin of the odor. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vin was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 1,000.

I have to replace my battery 1-2 x year, possibly due to parasitic draw. No lights have been left on, nor anything electrical when the car is shut off. Between batteries, i often have to jump my car to start it. I have been stranded places and i am in constant fear my car will not start.

2015 subaru outback. Consumer writes in regards to defective voice recognition system in vehicle. *ldupdated 10/04/2017

Consistent battery issues on start up; upon a mechanic looking at battery, the battery is fully charged/ok - but there appears to be possible connection issue? it appears to be a known issue. Is there a fix for this?

The contact owns a 2015 subaru outback. The contact stated that the back-up camera view was blocked by the sunlight. The contact stated that the glare was evident whether the sun roof was opened or closed. The glare prevented the driver to see clearly what was behind the vehicle. The dealer subaru of san bernardino (645 auto center dr, san bernardino, ca 92408 (877) 501-8065) was made aware of the issue but offered no solution to the issue. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was 45,000.

The car would stall when coasting to a stop light or stop sign a few times and havebeen back to the dealer and can't replicated the problem. This is a dangerous situation and can cause an unsafe andhuge accident with my family. The car would die while in drive and sometimes can't be restarted. It's happening again and afraid to drive the car since the dealer will say nothing is wrong with the car. It looks like it's related to idle being low or the cvt acting up when taking the foot off the gas pedal and try to accelerate from a dead stop or coasting to a stop.this happened a few times during factory warranty window.

With a relatively new battery, my car would not start. I had the rear lift gate open, but lights turned off, for about an hour while packing for a trip and when i went to start the car it was completely dead and i had to jump it to get it started again. This also happened a few months prior while leaving the tailgate up for about 30 minutes to get some things out of the car. Both times the only lights that were on were the mirror lights when i approached the car

Purchased the 2015 outback in sept. 2014. Took to back to dealership service dept.october. 24, 2014 because of loud popping noise around windshield especially when bluetooth phone connected.they could not find any problems. Popping noise around windshield continued from time to time. Took back to dealer july 29, 2015 for popping noise around windshield and poor radio am reception. They replaced the radio but amradio reception still not great. Got in the outback on nov 17, 2015 and there was a 5" crack on the bottomof the windshield slightly right of the center.a couple of weeks before this i was driving and heard avery loud popping noise. It made me jump as i thought the windshield was going to shatter but nothing happened. I had received a letter from subaru about windshield cracking problems so i contacted the dealership.i took it in so they could take a picture. At that time i also reported problems with the defroster not keeping the windshield clear especially on rainy days and nights. This problem with the defroster has occurred several times and it was i the lower portion of the windshield. I thought the subaru had electrical l issues because of the popping, poor am radio reception and the defroster. Now the windshield! this is my first subaru and possibly last if the problems persist. All of the incidents happened while driving but when i discovered the crack it was parked in the garage. Crack us now about 9".

When vehicle is left for two days or more (such as in my garage or at a remote trail head parking lot) the battery completely drains.this has happened three or four times and no lights or anything like that was left turned on.battery has been checked at auto parts store and no problems and it recharges to a full charge.

I'm writing on behalf of my brother, who is disabled. The battery in his 2015 subaru outback has been replaced 2 or 3 times sine he purchased it brand new. This is a serious safety issue for him. He does not leave anything on in the car ; lights, radio, etc. The dealership has replaced them so far but i'm concerned about what may happen in the future. One time the car wasn't driven for a few days and when he went to start the car,it didn't. Another time he brought the car through the car wash and stood outside the vehicle with the car off but ther radio on while talking to someone he knew. When he got back in the car it wouldn't start. He was unsure if the battery was replaced a third time. With the current weather trend in connecticut (teens, single digits, below zero with the wind chill. Prior to owning this car, he never replaced a battery in any of his other cars. I have a vehicle with over 138k miles on it and never replaced the battery. From what i've read online, this is an issue for many people. It is time the nhtsa contacts subaru to fix this issue. My brother is mobile but he can't move quickly. If he got stuck in the cold weather without heat from his car it would not be a good reflection on subaru or the nhtsa. Thank you for taking a close look at this issue.

This is approximately the 5th time i have had to have my battery jumped within the last two years. No visual drain (no lights left on for example) is suspected. Vehicle had been in use on various trips prior to car not starting. I have key fob and couldn't even open the back hatch to get tools out of car.when car was fairly new, had problem where key fob could not start the car (happened three times) but felt that was an elusive key fob problem.now i am not sure what problem is but i am suspecting there is some sort of short or system drain on battery that has surfaced. Vehicle was in driveway, parking lot and in parking space on street when these lapses occurred. Reading online about numerous similar problems with dead battery and suspicious electrical drainage of batteries. Most recent problem happened 11/29 and again 12/4. Car was in garage (not used) between 11/29 and 12/4.

I warmed the car up and drove to shoprite. Twenty minutes later i returned to the car to put the stuff away to go home. When i pressed the button to start the car only the radio started and the message flashed keyless start up deactivatedsee manual. I saw the manual could, just about understand it, did what it told me nothing changed. I called roadside assistance at subaru and the lady said it was my battery even though i told her what the message said on the screen. She sent someone to jump the battery .when he arrived 50 minutes later the car started perfectly. I called subaru service at my dealership ,that i have used since 1979.the person i spoke to said he knows nothing about it. I looked on line at the subaru forum and found others experiencing the same or similarmessage. I am including their website http://www.subaruoutback.org/forums/66-problems-maintenance/220162-2015-outback-not-starting.i want to know if the car resets itself. No one can tell me at subaru (glannzmans) i have driven subaru since 1979 and they started all the time. This is the eyesight model supposedly really safe but i do not know when i leave my house if the car will start . I makes me feel not very safe.

My car has a dead battery.i just replaced the battery in november 2018 and it is already dead.this also happened in november 2018 and when i brought it to the dealer they said everything was fine with the battery and they could not find anything wrong.the car runs for a few days and then the car battery dies again.i have the battery swapped out for one with a higher cca.this battery i bought in november 2018 has no power as of february 2020 which is too short of a lifespan.there must be something in the car draining the battery and subaru does not want to fix it.

A supposed gas cap seal caused 20 icons to flash constantly upon my dash.the car had been sitting in a parking garage for two days prior to the incident

The contact owns a 2015 subaru outback. The contact stated that while driving at an unknown speed, the navigation voice commands failed to activate. As a result, the contact had to constantly look at the screen, which was a distraction. The vehicle was taken to a dealer. The contact was unsure about what needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The failure recurred and the vehicle was taken back to the dealer who diagnosed that all personal data needed to be cleared out as a temporary remedy. The technician stated that there was no remedy for the failure. The failure persisted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 2,500.

Original owner, purchased new 2015 subaru outback limited in early 2015. We have replaced battery four times and have had to jump start the vehicle ~ 25 times since purchase.there is clearly a parasitic electrical drain on the battery that is widely discussed in online forums by fellow owners but not acknowledged by subaru or its dealers (presumably to mitigate liability risks and avoid repair costs).we have attempted to have local subaru service dealers address the issue but they give us bs answers like "you don't drive the car enough", "you must have left lights on", or "these newer cars have so many new electrical features that it is typical for batteries to die" .... All of which are clearly bs and an attempt to deflect responsibility for a flawed electrical design that consistently drains all batteries.moreover, part of the flaw is a system that was designed to only recharge the battery under certain higher speed driving conditions ... Which are rarely achieved when driving shorter distances at lower speeds in city applications.even when driving the car regularly, multiple times per week the batteries all eventually die well short of their intended life needlessly requiring jump-starting, trickle-charging to top off battery and/or replacement (we are on 4th battery for this vehicle).subaru should show its "love" by standing behind their products and accepting responsibility to fix design problems that are affecting so many customers.

Vehicle would not start. After jumping the battery vehicle started, aaa performed roadside testing and determined the battery and alternator are working properly and are sufficiently charged. Car would not start for unexplained reasons. Previous service history leads me to believe there is an ongoing electrical issue with this vehicle. Previously the airbag light would frequently illuminate. Dealership stated it was due to electrical interference and that nothing was wrong.

Rear door hatch randomly does not open, whether i press the button on it, the button inside the care, or the key fob. This happens almost every day, and always when it is raining or has rained. The driver's door will always open (though never the passenger door) with the key fob in proximity. You can hear that the back hatch unlatches, but does not raise up. Cascade subaru in ohio has not been able to fix it so it works as it should. This vehicle was preowned, bought from the dealer, and exhibited this problem from the first day we owned it.

Batteryloses charge and will not start auto.battery has been replaced twice and the problem continues, although not all the time.

We have owned the vehicle since may 2015 and had a dead battery 4 times with no apparent reason. We have replaced the battery each time. Subaru doesn't seem to admit there is an issue.

Hello,my windshield broke about 6 months after purchasing the vehicle. I don't know how or why. It was just broken one morning when i went out to my car. I figured a rock or something hit it.there was no recall at the time and so i had it replaced with a oem windshield. My second windshield just broke a couple of weeks ago while changing my wipers you can see where the ceramic wiper heater delaminated inside of the windshield. It turned bright red. I have owned alot of cars and never seen a windshield that is so fragile. I have changed many, many wiper blades and i know what a quality windshield is. I set the wiper blade holder down on the windshield gently and it cracked, the crack grew across the windshield in a day or so. Ridiculous. These windshields run about 500 bucks and should be better quality.i also have electrical problems where my car clock will not set... Currently. It took them 3 years to figure out the steering retaining pin was broken even though i was complaining about it since i bought the car. The rear gate stopped opening and they had to replace the struts on a 3 year old car.there is something wrong with the front end but my dealer said "wait until it gets worse"can you believe that?thanks,

I have a parasitic drain on my battery and i have replaced the battery 3 times.it seems my battery is not the issue, but i am constantly stranded on the road and the dealership just replaces the battery.this last replacement i did at a separate shop on 5/10/2021 because my battery needed to be replaced and i thought putting in a different battery would help.today (7/21/2021), my car will not start again.this shouldn't happen with a new battery and i don't think it's right that subaru is not doing anything about this issue.it started happening within the first 3 years i owned this vehicle, when it was under warranty.their solution was to replace the battery and not actually fix the real issue.this is not okay.i drive this car regularly and there is no reason why my battery should die constantly.

My vehicle has had repeated dead battery problems. In feb the dealer said i needed a new battery and charged me $174. On 5/20/19 my battery was dead. I had it jumped and then drove over 40 miles. On 5/22/19 it was dead again. The dealer said i don't drive enough. Many others have clearly hadthe same problem. I think i have a lemon.

In november 2014, i took delivery of a new 2015 subaru outback, 3.6 limited.the vehicle was equipped with the optional premium electronics package, and the eyesight collision avoidance system. After about three weeks of ownership, i started to experience random malfunctions with the key-less ignition, and the key-less entry systems.the ignition problems all involved engine start, and occurred in scenarios where the key-fob wasn't recognized.about the same time, the gps navigation system started to display erroneous locational data, and the associated 'starlink' touch screen system would freeze-up (become inoperable).as of today, i have posted six different videos to youtube to dramatically illustrate the problem.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9mf_rumicqm .i have had the car back to the dealer five times for this problem, and it can't be fixed.i have also met with subarus, seattle zone service manager.in emails from subaru's corporate service officials, they refuse to acknowledge the problem exists, despite the videos.unofficially, the zone service manager acknowledged that some other owners are experiencing the same issue, which he believes is a systemic problem in vehicles with this option combination.he does not know of any solution.my concern is that the eyesight system can override driver commands involving braking, and engine throttle.will the problems with the gps and starlink touch-screens potentially create a dangerous malfunction of the eyesight system that creates an accident rather than mitigating it?

Battery periodically goes dead overnight

2015 subaru outback 2.5i limited - monday 6 july 2015 - while driving, the check engine light, collision prevention off light, line warning off light, and x-mode light messages displayed.i had not disengaged the collision prevention or line warning lights and had not engaged the x-mode feature.there was no message indicating no brake lights.made appointment for thursday morning 9 july.based on service advisor's advice that it was ok to drive the car until i brought it in, i drove the car for two days with no brake lights. (discovered this when my wife followed me to the dealer.) there should be a message to alert the driver brake lights are not operable.after service appointment thursday (flashed computer to clear codes), noticed the vehicle was sluggish.while driving at 60 mph friday afternoon 10 july sluggishness continued to increase, gear shifting became erratic, then the collision prevention off light and line warning off light messages displayed - but no check engine light.shortly thereafter the vehicle totally failed to maintain speed or accelerate.coasted off the exit ramp and called for a tow truck. Do not know whether brake lights were operable while this was occurring. I am aware there is a recall wqs-54 on the eye-sight system (which we showed the dealer service advisor).having no way to know if brake lights are operable is a severe safety hazard. I have not received any notification from subaru regarding this recall.updated 11/14/2017

I will be purchasing my 4th battery, this seems to be an issue people are having with this 2015 outback. I maintain my car and garage store it and i continue to have dead batteries that need to be replaced, i am not leaving any interior or exterior lights on either.

The car is on a battery maintainer 24/7 when not in use and still needs to be jump started periodically.dealer has replaced battery annually since car was purchased new.each time claiming a "bigger" battery was installed and this will solve it; and each time it never does.car is completely unreliable.contacted subaru of america multiple times (after the first two batteries were replaced).they claim that the car was never built or advertised to be used on in-town travel and i must waste gas on highway travel at least once a week in addition to always keeping battery on maintainer.subaru has insisted that this is normal and expected behaviour of a car.subaru sent a factory-field technician out to inspect the car and "found nothing wrong with the vehicle" and simply advised that an even larger battery be used in addition to all of the other additional steps (keeping on charger/maintainer and weekly highway driving).

At temperature 48 f, sat in stationary car for 30 min with radio on, lights on. Battery ran all the way down. Had to get a jump. At temperature 36 f, sat in stationary car 20 min. With radio off, lights off. Battery ran all the day down. Had to get a jump. Subaru says that battery tests normal on gr-8 test and that current draw is normal at this time .010a-.027a. I'm concerned that the vehicle battery is not equipped to support its electrical needs. Could key system be a factor? subaru would not do anything beyond the above tests. There are other reports like this on internet sites. My confidence in the vehicle is eroded.

My vehicle was purchased in september 2014.approximately the night of march 9, 2017 my daughter apparently turned on a dome light, which remained on the rest of the night.my car had approximately 45k miles on it.the next day i attempted to start the car, nothing happened.the battery was so dead that even connecting to another vehicle for 20 minutes resulted in no change.i purchased a new battery on 3/10/2017.on 7/10/2021 with approximately 100,000 miles i was at an airport for pickup.i turned my car off upon arrival and waited for 30 - 40 minutes with the key in the ignition. I think that resulted in some lights remaining on.when i attempted to start my car to depart the airport it gave an indication of attempting to start but there was not enough power to facilitate the action.i needed to briefly connect my car to another for enough power to start the vehicle, which has run apparently fine since.now i have to be vigilant to ensure no internal lights are on for more than a few minutes regardless of situation.recently i read this article, https://www.motorbiscuit.com/dead-batteries-new-subaru-lawsuit-claims-least-five-models-defective-batteries/, which seems to be the situation i am in.it seems that two batteries in a period of 7 years and approximately 102,000 miles seems a bit excessive.a non-technical analysis leads me to think either subaru is not putting an adequate power supply in at least their outbacks, maybe other models based on at least the linked article, or something is wrong with the electrical management system resulting in drains on the battery resulting in significantly shorter battery life than found on other vehicles, which results in additional cost to consumers to replace batteries assuming they die at a convenient time and other costs are not incurred.

I have had to replace my stock subaru battery from the dealer now four times. I drive it for work everyday and every so often it will not start up one morning. I do not leave my lights on, dome lights, or any other electrical components. It was stationary and would always happen the next morning, the battery would be drained and the dealership would replace just the battery as their fix. Months later, it would only happen again on a brand new battery from the dealer.

Vehicle will not start/crank.battery is brand new, all electronics function and light up, yet when ignition is turned the engine doesn't turn over.vehicle is in the shop for the third time in 3 weeks.a new wiring harness was installed but failed to resolve the issue.vehicle has been showing codes for the cam & crank sensors, including code p0340, yet all sensors have tested as operational.i'll post an update as soon as i hear from dealer.

Accelerator suddenly became unresponsive resulting in complete slowdown to stop in traffic.had to shut off vehicle and restart numerous time to get to safe location.resulted in expensive fix and could have been disastrous if occurred during highway/heavy traffic situation.apparently was a sensor of some sort.happened a while ago, so date provided is approximate, but i just became aware of this site.

The back up display screen becomes unusable as a result of the touch sensitive sensors becoming visible, thus interfering with the rear back up camera image.it is especially dangerous in bright sunlight making the rear back up camera useless. It also impacts the ability to read any of the controls on the screen, however not being able to identify objects when backing up we believe is a serious issue. The dealer has been great and has replaced two of them at no charge. However this is clearly a defect in the touch sensitive screen.

Battery discharges when not driven frequently.subaru tech suggested purchasing larger battery as oem is not adequate.date of event is est.

The fourth battery has died since the car was purchased in 2015.it will not take a charge.the dealer has replaced with the same battery each time and said nothing about the car having any electrical issues.

Car purchased new 2/25/2015. The battery died 4/27/2016 at 9890 miles and replaced under warrantee by subaru. The battery died again on 9/11/2018 at 35067 miles and was again replaced by subaru, though not under warranty. Subaru obviously agrees that there is a problem. The battery is again showing signs of weekness in 2021, and i am worried it will die yet again.

The contact owns a 2015 subaru outback . The contact stated that the vehicle failed to start.there were no warning lights illuminated. The local dealer was not contacted.the manufacturer was contacted but no further assistance was provided.the failure mileage was 69,000.

I have had 3 intermittent start up issues when the temperature is below 0 degrees on my new 2015 outback.it occurs after a short trip, less than 10 miles.when i went back to try and start the car the first time the door is open bell chimed, but the car would not start up.the heater, radio and other electronics were not showing on the screen.the third time the car key would not even turn in the ignition.i left the key in the ignition and 10 minutes later the car would start.being stranded in below 0 conditions is a scary proposition! i have read on the subaru.org thread that there is a relay switch issue.

Purchased in august 2014. Yesterday i put the 3rd battery in the car. This seems excessive and may indicate a problem with draw on the battery during down-time. Charging system checks fine and also checked fine at the point of replacing the battery the other times.

Since the car was new, periodically when the vehicle is started,. The blind spot caution/waning system is disabled.this is confirmed by a caution light in the instrument panel.the only way to reactivate the system is to turn off the ignition and restart the engine.if the malfunction is not caught on starting the vehicle the system cannot be activated until the vehicle is stopped and the engine restarted.the problem has been ongoing for two years and 40,000 miles.every time the vehicle is brought in for service at daryl waltrip subaru in franklin tnthe problem is pointed out to the service manager.every time i am told by the service rep that there is nothing wrong with the system but they have updated the computer.recently a relay in the system, part no. 87611al00b, was replaced.this has only exacerbated the problem.i have made multiple calls to subaru's customer care line and they have not been willing to help.multiple calls to theservice manage at daryl waltrip subaru in franklin tn have gone unanswered and have not been returned. Subaru customer care has supposedly contacted the service manager at daryl waltrip subaru requesting that he contact me, he has not.this is a continuing problem.

After being parked and unused for as few as 3 days, the battery drains and the car will not start. This has happened on two occasions. Several other owners of 4 cylinder 2015 outbacks have reported this issue at http://www.subaruoutback.org/forums/138-gen-5-2015-present/344506-dead-battery-2016-a.html

Excessive battery drain from open back hatch while parked and engine off. Having my back liftgate open while my engine was off for a 30 minute period drained my battery so that i could not start my vehicle. Had not my friends been there to jump me i would have been without transportation miles from home. No warning light was given by the vehicle. Others with this vehicle have had similar issues and it is an easy issue to find complaints about. A service center has not been contacted yet but i plan on speaking with my dealership soon. This problem blindsided me completely.

When i pull the express window switch to lift my driver side window, it will go all the way up and then come down about halfway. It will not let me raise the window unless i move the switch down to lower the window. I think the first time it did it was around may, 2016. By july, it was doing more and more often, and the passenger side was also doing the same thing. I took it to the dealer on july 26 and they told me they had to reprogram it. They said if it does it again, just hold the switch up for 5 seconds and that should reprogram it again. That did not help. Both my windows are doing it more often now. When i go back to dealer to have my windshield fixed, i will let them know that my power windows are still not working properly. This problem occurs while i am driving or stationary. It does not do it all the time, but it does it enough times that it is problematic.

After being parked outside overnight with temperatures below 0 degrees f, the vehicle started fine the following morning but had numerous warning lights illuminate (power steering, at oil temperature, among others) while idling in my driveway.vehicle warmed up for 5 minutes.once warmed up, owner turned the vehicle off and attempted to restart 20 minutes later. Vehicle would not restart but other electrical components (lights, radio, etc) worked but the starter would not engage.vehicle towed to dealership for diagnosis of what appears to be an electrical problem.

Battery suddenly went dead shortly after driving when it should be charged.after investigating, i found that the ecu cycles the alternator off and on to try to increase fuel mileage.this has twice resulted in battery failure, not starting and leaving me stranded.i've had to buy new batteries twice in five years.

In my 2015 subaru outback the battery is drained below 50% charge if the vehicle is not driven for a week.it takes daily trips to keep it charged up.the first dead battery was replaced by subaru after 19 months under warranty.that battery lasted just over two years and it went dead too, while we were away on vacation.i replaced that battery at my expense. My safety is a concern because, if an emergency arose, i donā€™t know if the vehicle will start. Iā€™ve only involved subaru when the oem battery died so soon after buying the car.there is/were/are no warning lights or gauges to inform me of impending battery failure. As a side note, my son owns a subaru forester, and because he works at home, there are days he goes without driving it, and between trips his battery is constantly self-draining, too.very frustrating!

My battery has had to be replaced twice because it drains even though the car is used regularly and nothing is left on.i have had to be jumped six or seven times since i purchased the car and towed once to the dealership.

Two incidents related to the ignition/electrical system for this car happened during a second start after a short trip in cold weather. Both incidents occurred in temperatures at or below 5 degrees fahrenheit. The car started and ran normally, then after i drove for short trip (between 5 and 10 minutes long) i parked the car, turned it off and left it for about 5-10 minutes.for the first incident: the car would not start. The accessories, including the heat/fan system and radio worked, but the car would not crank. The dashboard "security immobilizer" indicator flashed as if the key was not in the ignition. After leaving the key in the "on" position for 5 minutes, all of the dashboard lights briefly illuminated and the car was able to start again. The second incident: the car started, but the accessories, including the heat/fan system would not turn on. I was able to drive, but because there was no heat or fan, the windsheild soon began to fog-over, diminishing visibility, disabling the eyesight system, and forcing me to find a safe place to pull over.after the car ran for about 4 minutes total, the accessories turned on again.i have contacted both my dealer and subaru of america of this problem, and have not yet been advised of a solution other than to avoid short trips in cold weather.

1. My battery failed, so i replaced it. I didnā€™t keep the failed one. 2. Problem started while driving w/ a handicapped, elderly passenger in remote rural area at night. Help at least 1/2-hr. Away. No open garages. Frightening.3. Aaa confirmed.4. Aaa inspected.5. My check engine light came on, cruise control stopped working. Pulled over, ckā€™d manual, nothing noted about battery, no battery warning light. Car started up, drove home very slowly, stopping occasionally. Next morning, car wouldnā€™t start, called aaa to take to mechanic (charge $150 to check system). There was no previous warning that battery was losing power. Aaa found battery problem. No engine problem. Replaced. No more lights. Very disappointed that much worry could have been avoided.

Our car has 80k miles on it and is about 6.25 years old.we are on the 3rd battery.there appears to be a pending lawsuit, so adding my information to the database.i have all the servicer records of when the batteries were replaced.

Multiple dead battery issues (approx 10 over 3 year period); no provoking episodes (no left in cold for prolonged time; no lights on

Cannot remove key after shutting down engine and put in "park".found many similar incidents on https://www.subaruoutback.org/threads/key-stuck-in-ignition.495265/

The contact owns a 2015 subaru outback. The contact stated that while attempting to start the vehicle, the vehicle failed to start. The contact attempted to jump start the battery with a battery charger however, the failure persisted. The contact stated that the battery would drain periodically. The contact stated that the battery had been replaced four times in a six-year period. The local dealer was made aware of the failure but informed the contact that the next available appointment was on the 29th of may. The contact replaced the battery himself. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 47,784.

The contact owns a 2015 subaru outback. The contact stated that while driving 70 mph, the engine seized as the keyless access system disabled warning light illuminated. The failure recurred twice. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The technician diagnosed that there was a faulty connector in the wiring. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 1,000.

Failure to start. Dead battery from stationary. About 5-6 times.

On sept.27th, 2015, the liftgate opened on its own. Many times the lights ,one at a time, over the mirror, will turn on and be hot to the touch when i get into the car after being out of car for hours or over night.the liftgate is a recurring problem,as are the lights.also, the bluetooth tells me i am calling myself frequently.electrical problems?? once the liftgate opened while the car was in motion. I have notes on dates & times

I have a surging issue with my 3.6r after cold starts.upon start-up, the idle will be ~1800 and when i put the car in drive, it will drop to 800-1000rpm.then, as i slowly pull into the garage, or pull into a stopped line of traffic, the engine will surge back to the higher rpm, causing the vehicle to push through the brakes.i have had this return to high idle occur after i have come to a complete stop, causing the vehicle to push through the applied brakes and requiring additional brake pressure to stop the vehicle.i have also had it occur when slowly rolling forward.i believe this is an unsafe situation that could result in damaged property and/or injury. I see that there is at least one additional nhtsa complaint for this issue, which subaru deemed "normal" operation.i did contact my dealer requesting a firmware update, if one was available, and they said there was not one.i have owned this vehicle since 3/23/2015 and this issue has occurred since new, but it more common in colder weather.i have 18k miles on the vehicle.

Red engine light came on and car died. Lost all power/ drive. Needed to coast to berm.would restart, but die immediately.everything was immobilized. This could have happened at 70 mph on an interstate! our was very close to being rear- ended.

After 2 years of ownership on my brand new subaru outback 2015, i have noticed a loud squeaky sound coming from the engine when i start my car after it rained/snowed. The sound would go away after a few minutes, however, it didn't seem normal. I took the car to the dealership to have it checked out. The dealership told me that nothing is wrong and it is perfectly fine. However, the squeaky noise still occurs after rain/snow. It seems to me that water is leaking into a belt when it's not suppose to and it is causing the noise when the engine is started. Subaru needs to look into this issue because this problem only happens after it rains/snows and cannot be replicated when the car is brought to the dealership. Therefore, it is hard to have this issue fixed.

The vehicle is equipped with the 3.6r engine and a continuously variable transmission.when descending a long hill in a fixed gear ratio (usually 2nd or 3rd) the vehicle slows normally until the rpm reaches approximately 1200 rpm at which point the vehicle suddenly begins accelerating until the rpm reaches approximately 2500 rpm at which point the process repeats.i observe the "mpg" suddenly drop at the same time to around 25 mpg when the vehicle accelerates.it rises back to "99" when it slows.note that during the entire sequence my foot is off the accelerator pedal and the throttle angle display shows zero.i find this very hazardous as the unintended acceleration can occur when entering or within a turn creating a crash risk.upadte 9/15/15*cw

Very difficult to start-problem with push to start button and engine not getting fuel. Vehicle stationary in parking lot.have had to get jump start 3 times

The contact owns a 2015 subaru outback. While driving 60 mph, the vehicle failed to accelerate, lost power, and the check automotive transmission and check engine warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who stated that the continuously variable transmission failed. The vehicle was towed to subaru of puyallup (720 river rd, puyallup, wa 98371, (253) 286-5900) where it was diagnosed that the incorrect transmission fluid was placed in the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and provided case number: 150070620183. The failure mileage was 74,000.

Please read upload documents. My 2015 subaru outback began showing signs of excessive oil consumption in the summer 2018. Apparently this was a known problem with subaru and class action lawsuit was filed against subaru for models made prior to 2015. My vehicle failed a oil consumption test in the fall of 2018. I was told by white bear subaru if the vehicle failed an oil consumption test subaru of america would pay to have a new short block installed due to this ongoing engine defect. However, subaru of america refused to pay the full amount to have a new short block installed as even though my car was make in 2014 it is technically a 2015 that the class action lawsuit only protected consumers of models prior to 2015. Also, in the fall of 2018 the interior of this vehicle began to have a exhaust smell and was making me feel sick. They determined that part of the exhaust system was broken but told me not to have it fixed before the new short block was installed and the exhaust system would just become clogged with the oil the car was burning. I went ahead had had the repair done anyway as the exhaust air was terrible.

Service technician reported a noise and leak from catalytic system. Hint of exhaust present in driver compartment at low speed and stops.

Exhaust system issue. Exhaust mainfold leak at catalyst converter.for our outback we noticed a significant levels of exhaust fumes in passenger cabin. They were no indication of failure of exhaust system or catalyst converter on the car. But we are getting some much fumes smell when we stopped at the traffic signal or parking lot. It all most made us sick. Luckily i got it checked at the service center and they find the leak.this is potentially a very risky thing for people who don't notice the smell might get slow poisoned with carbon monoxide or other elements in exhaust fumes. There may be direct injury from this issue but as i said i was almost got sick because of fumes. For people with pzev vehicle, the exhaust system is covered under warranty.please bring this issue with manufacturing.for people out there if you notice a loud exhaust note at start of your vehicle or small rattling noise when we you accelerate after a complete stop, it might be your exhaust system, please get it checked as soon as possible.ps attached is the diagnosis report from dealer service centerbe safe out there !!thank you.

Engine idle is erratic when cold.backing out of the garage in the morning the engine surges 3-400 rpm making the car jerk faster and slower.this is with only the brake pedal pressed.i have a second identical car that does not have the problem.temperature is in the 40's.when the engine slows, you have to ease off the brake, them it suddenly speeds up 50% and the car takes off.the cycle repeats for a few minutes in the mornings.the problem is very repeatable -the same thing every morning.

The muffler makes a rattling or growling noise when idling or coasting. The noise disappears when accelerating.

Within 80k miles the car has started showing high engine oil consumption. Engine oil is to be changed every 6000 miles but at 4000 miles low engine oil light will show up and checking on oil level, it shows at the low level of dipdtick.upon diagnosis, it was figured that it has stage 2 head gasket replacement by subaru dealership

I was going 55 mph on a straight flat surface when all of a sudden the rpm's shot up to around 4000 but the car was not accelerating. It was like it went into neutral. I pulled over to the side of the road and the car proceeded to die. Fortunately, it started right up and i drove home. I had a almost a full tank of gas.i had only driven it for 5 minutes as i was on my way home from work.i just had the oil/filter changed not even 2 months ago.i have 54,000 dealer serviced miles on the car.it was 86 degrees out. 2015 subaru outback premium 2.5

Car stalled, could not take out of gear; could not restart, could not set emergency brake.couldnā€™t turn key to restart. Finally a light came on that said hatch was open. Could not operate hatch from inside car. Jumped out hatch was closed. Opened and reclosed. Car started rolling. Ran to jump in and apply manual brake. Iā€™m 85 years old. Very dangerous situation.

Excessive exhaust entering passenger cabin anytime the engine is running because of crack in flex pipe on the exhaust manifold that occurred with less than 60k miles.

We noticed an exhaust leak (noisy) on our 2015 outback, upon inspection by the dealer they determined the catalytic converter needed to be replaced, they initially rejected our warantee claim because subaru authorizes replacement only if a mil is present.after some discussion the dealer (subaru) agreed to replace as "good will".we live in the northeast and it seems road salt and sand cause the converter to rust prematurely, the location of the converted is aft of the exhaust manifold and at the base of the passenger compartment, there is a risk of carbon monoxide poisoning with these types of leaks, and it is unheard of that these parts fail after three years.

The subaru outback 2015 was parked in a lot after a 12 minute drive and burst into flames. It was purchased in february 2015 and was not yet due for servicing when the event happened. The subaru outbackmanufactured from july 3rd-27th 2015 has been recalled due to "possibility of fire due to a transmission fluid leak". I believe the same thing occurred with my car and i am concerned that if the model isnot recalled someone will get badly injured or killed due to fire.

My battery has had to be replaced twice because it drains even though the car is used regularly and nothing is left on.i have had to be jumped six or seven times since i purchased the car and towed once to the dealership.

When the engine is cold, the idle speed is 1600 rpm when started.when placed in reverse or drive it reduces to a nominal 900-1000 rpm.when the vehicle starts to move it suddenly drops to 600 rpm.when braking to a stop after moving vehicle the rpm suddenly jumps to 900-1000 rpm just before vehicle halts.this causes sudden unexpected acceleration of the vehicle and presents a safety hazard.i believe this is due to an engine/transmission software issue.this has occurred since new. Updated 9/15/15*cwupdated 11/07/2017

Noted over a period of several weeks, an increase in exhaust noise from the front of the car.the cabin would fill with exhaust fumes when stopped with the engine running.i took the car to the dealer twice to have the issue diagnosed and both times they indicated that no issue was found.on the third trip, they confirmed a hole in the exhaust manifold and initially refused to replace it under warranty, even though the vehicle was covered under the pzev emissions warranty and extended vehicle coverage. After pointing out the pzev coverage, the dealer replaced the manifold.

I have this issue with my muffler.tsb 09-66-16rear muffler shell rigidity enhancementthis bulletin announces a change in the production procedure for the rear muffler assembly. Spot-weld locations securing the outer shell portion have been changed to improve overall rigidity. A gap may develop at the spot welded seam as a result of repeated thermal shock (heating / cooling) which occurs during normal use. The gap does not create an exhaust leak. In some cases, a rattling sound from the muffler may develop.

Excessive oil consumption between oil change.when the vehicle reached to 45,000 miles, the low oil light is on less than 5,000 miles between oil change.if the driver ignore the warning and not add oil to the vehicle, the engine can be damages. A three years old vehicle with 45,000 miles should not have to change oil freqently.i spoke to the dealer, they said the oil level is normal, and oil consumption test is not needed.when i took the car to a car repair shop, they told me the oil level is lower than standard between oil change.i also contacted subaru north america, was told that my vehicle is not covered by the class action settlement, and only a very small number of customers have identified a concern on this issue.

Dear sir, on february 11,2015 we purchased a new 2015 outback 2.5 premium at sellerdealer 400106vin [xxx] and the odometer reading was 10 miles. This was our dream car that we saved for a few years to finally purchase. It developed an engine knocking noise at only 1000 miles on the odometer. So i took it to the subaru dealer for evaluation on 3/18/15 and after 2 days there they determined that the engine had a problem and would have to be replaced according to subaru experts.i really respect subaru??s and their history, but we no longer consider this one our dream car. If the power plant is faulty we wonder what else is going to go wrong with it. My family will no longer feel safe. Though the car may or may not fall under the song-beverly consumer warranty act we want a replacement for the same type vehicle, nothing more and nothing less. I feel the engine should not of failed at only 1,000 miles on it and i'm sure [xxx] would strongly agree.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

The contact owns a 2015 subaru outback. The contact stated that when the vehicle was taken to austin subaru (8100 burnet road, austin, tx 78757 phone (512)220-0930) to be repaired under nhtsa campaign number: 15v502000 (power train), the mechanic found an internal oil leak and needed to remove the engine to be able to correct the engine oil leak. The contact stated that the dealer replaced engine rings, cylinder heads, and installed a longer lasting silicone sealer. The vehicle was repaired. The vehicle was out of warranty however, the manufacturer repaired the engine oil leak failure as a good will offer. The failure mileage was 25,600.

Unintended acceleration.when driving at low speeds--what would traditionally be 1st and 2nd gear (the car has a continually variable transmission)--and while keeping constant pressure on the gas pedal, the transmission changes the acceleration of the vehicle on its own in a process that feels like it can't find the right "gear", and it provides a "jerking" feeling (usually only a couple of "jerks"). Yet the transmission is not just finding the right gear for a specific constant speed; as it shifts around, the acceleration changes and has, with constant pressure on the pedal, accelerated faster on its own. I have never felt less control of a vehicle as i have with this one.

While parking the car at an open parking lot in shopping center at low speed (<5mph) the engine surged suddenly and the vehicle accelerated uncontrollably. It required tremendous pressure on brake to eventually override the engine.

Driving in a heavy thunderstorm, eyesight automatically went off but automatically came back on as the rain diminished. So did the adaptive cruise control. This is expected. However, the srvd (blind spot monitor, etc.) totally shut down. The car no longer has working blind spot monitor or rear back up alert warning. Contacted dealer said that the radar in the rear bumper shut down. Two weeks and the dealer nor subaru has not found the part to repair this feature. Car was purchased in sept. 2014 new.

Door locks, both front and rear remain unlocked while driving, unless someone remembers to manuallyengage the locking system. This is not only a major safety issue while vehicle is moving, children could open door, people could be thrown out of vehicle because of unlocked insecure doors etc. But also aids the criminal element by allowing them easy access to inside the vehicle from any door while stopped (traffic light shopping center lots etc.)

2015 subaru outback. Consumer writes in regards to rough idling in vehicle. *ldthe consumer stated the vehicle annoyingly vibrated when the air conditioner was on.

The touch screen that controls the system's radio/navigation is very glossy and while driving home, the sun hit it at an angle and blinded me. Was barely able to drive, had to place my hand over the 7" screen to reduce the bright sun glare which was impeding my visibility and made it very unsafe to drive the car. This needs to be recalled as it will cause accidents if drivers are blinded by the light that bounces back.

Car brought in4 times to service for radio freezing navigation system and other parts on dash incidents happened from date of purchase but thought it wasbreaking in. First time brought it in to be checked . Was told there is no problem, then told had to update software, then told had to have radio (head unit) replaced which i had to wait for since so many other subaru owners has same problem. Replacement head unit no good (was a refurbished radio since they had no new ones (subaru has since switched to another vendor because of all the problems) now car is at service center waiting for engineers from subaru to diagnose problem.i bought a new car not a car with refurbished parts.they cannot provide me with a new part since they can't get one.i do not want a part that will constantly fail and eventually leave me with a bill when warranty endswhen the navigation fails in the middle of a trip it is disconcerting this happens when driving.

There is a gloss finished plastic touch pad kind of cover that covers the entire navigation system.this is approximately 6"x8".it is not only the navigation system, but the radio, fuel information, etc.it is slanted as part of the front dashboard, and when the sun hits it, it bounces directly into the drivers eyes.this navigation system should have been recessed into the dash, or at a minimum, a matte finish instead of a glassy finish on the plastic.it is definitely a hazard to the driver, as it is blinding. If you are traveling on the highway, with the sun at an angle, the reflection of light in your eyes is as blinding as someone holding a flashlight steadily into your eyes. I have pictures that i took of the screen.it must be recalled soon, with either some type of replacement cover that is a matte finish, or an attachment that goes around the screen so it would appear recessed.i paid thousands extra for navigation, and not only is it blinding, but i cannot even see the navigation screen anyway.before i cause an accident that injures myself or others, or someone else does, please consider recalling this.i would be happy to provide you with the photographs to show the reflection.

Projector beam headlights with sharp cut off..... Low beam lights are bright and great on level straight road at moderate speeds, deviate from that and it is dangerous. Need further penetration for high speed driving..going downhill or on any slope and around curves limited visibility;;; . Downhill freeway cloverleaf on ramp, impossible to negotiate safely with low beam.. Depth of field 20 to 25 feet, extremely dangerous. Lights just cut off right in front of you.have to turn on high beam to see...also lights do not light up the sides of roads very well, would not be able to see wildlife very well.limited visibility turning corners in residential driving, hard to see pedestrians at side crosswalks. Hard to see projected path.. Lights do not project high enough to the right to properly light up street signs. Self leveling may help with some of the issues, but notall of them.

2015 subaru outback.consumer writes in regards to vehicle tail light issues.consumer has previous complaint with a different vehicle listed in artemis.the consumer noticed while driving in the snow, the heat from the tail lights was not sufficient enough to keep snow from accumulating on the tail lamp.

Tapped the accelerator. The car suddenly lurched backward. I put it in neutral and hit the brakes. Nothing happened.i didnt want to hit there garage or my son in laws car so i swerved to the right. I hit the brakes and again nothing happened. The car hit the neighbor bush and eventually came to rest when it hit the neighbors honda right door. I then put it drive and pulled back onto my daughters driveways and had a difficult time stopping the vehicle. It did approx. $2200 damage to my subaru outback sending it to the collision shop for two weeks.

The eyesight system turns on and off intermittently. The vehicle is traveling at speed and all of sudden it is not. The windshield was clear and it was not raining. The vehicle was traveling in a straight line. This has been an ongoing issue which the dealer is unable to resolve.

Car suddenly accelerated on its own. Happens at any speed while driving straight and steady

Gas pedal sensor dose not respond on take off from stoppedvehicle. Have almost been t-bone 5-6 times. Also from a cost to putting pressure on pedalit fails to respond. On left turns you are a sitting duck not knowing if pedal will respond or you are sitting out in front of some closing in on you at high rate speed .this has happened 10 -12 times on highways an city streets

A supposed gas cap seal caused 20 icons to flash constantly upon my dash.the car had been sitting in a parking garage for two days prior to the incident

Fuel gas door sticks and will not open

October 1, 2016 11:50am, 32,00milessudden unintended acceleration (sua)my wife had an acceleration and brake malfunction on this date and time.she had just turned into a parking lot and attempted to turn into a parking space.as she took her foot off the accelerator and applied pressure to the brake, the car accelerated and the brake would not function.the car ran over the yellow cement barrier and was heading for a tree, she continued to apply pressure to the brake and it did not respond as she turned the car right to miss the tree.realizing she may be heading for the street she turned hard right, still applying pressure to a unresponsive brake pedal. She continued to steer hard right to miss a fire hydrant.she left tire marks in the bark chips near the hydrant.the brake finally engaged and the car came to a stop in front of another cement parking barrier that was perpendicular to the street.she sat for approximatelya minute, gathering her thoughts and talking to her grandchild, in the back seat.she then drove slowly over the barrier and parked.she drove around the parking lot stopping and starting before proceeding home, approximately 2 miles.this was a sudden and random acceleration and the brakes would not function.we believe it has to do with the computer that controls throttle and that it malfunctioned.we do not fee safe in this car and are concerned that this sua might happen again.we are asking subaru to replace this control computer.it is at the dealership waiting on their evaluation. We want to drive and feel safe in our 2015 subaru outback!there should be no doubt or hesitation in keeping us safe and one incident of sua/brake malfunction is one too many. We have pictures of the area showing the tree, fire hydrant and bark chips with tire marks.you can follow the path of the vehicle through the picture.

Very difficult to start-problem with push to start button and engine not getting fuel. Vehicle stationary in parking lot.have had to get jump start 3 times

We called subaru roadside assistance sunday, july 25, 2021 because the subaru lost power, as though it were out of gas, but the gage showed we had over an eighth of a tank. We mentioned this to the roadside assistant rep. Several times. She took our cell and credit card #s and said she ordered us a tow truck. I asked if the driver will have a gas can with. She said, "well do you need a tow or fuel". Again we repeated we didn't know and explained again what happened. She said it would be 60-90 minutes. It was 94 degrees, we had no water, no shade, it was horrible. After 90 minutes still nobody came. We called again to see how much longer it would be. Come to find out, they didn't send anyone!!!. They said they didn't know if we neededa toe or fuel, so they didn't send anyone, didn't call, nothing. They said it would be another 90 minutes. We told them to forget it, hung up and went to a nearby house and the guy gave us a bottle of water and from a gas can, provided us enough gas to get to the next gas station 11 miles away. I tried calling subaru headquarters to report the issue and to let them know if our credit card was charged, they need to reimburse it since we did not receive service, but i was on hold for so long, i hung up and emailed them - 3 times and i never heard anything back from them. So here i am reporting to not rely on their gas gage and reporting a safety concern that they would leave people in massive heat, probably would in the terrible cold as well. They do not call to let you know that nobody is coming. Subaru roadside assistance is one big joke. Subaru service is a big joke because obviously they don't care since they never responded to any of my emails. Needless to say, we will never call their roadside assistance again and will never buy a subaru again since they have shown lack of interest. Thank you.

My subaru has 51,000 miles on it and has had 6 wheel bearings replaced as follows.3-22-17 @ 29k miles replace both rear wheel bearings and front right wheel bearing.11-12-18 @45k miles replaced both front wheel bearings (2nd time for front right) 7-12-19 @ 51k miles replaced front left wheel bearing (2nd time for front left) the vehicle has had 6 wheel bearings replaced in the last 23 months. Front axle both sides changed twice and rear axle changed once each side. The last wheel bearing only lasted 6k miles and was near total failure making the vehicle inoperable. I am very concerned about this issue as it could cause a catastrophic accident. Therefor i believe the nhtsa should open an investigation into this vehicle.

I took the car into paul moak subaru on 10/14.the car was bucking under light acceleration.when pulling thru a stop light, or moving from a stopped position, the car kicks back and forth and i don't know if its going to keep going or stall.no check engine light. Paul moak subaru says " this is due to an internal failure of the cvt transmission and the repair estimate is $9,319.59."this is almost the same as what i owe on the car.i knew of the extended warranty subaru provided for the transmission but i'm outside the mileage portion.i reached out to subaru north america on 10/27/20 but they say they can not help me due to the mileage.i drive approx 750 miles a week on a sales route thus the high mileage.90 % of the miles are highway and are documented for tax purposes.i love my subaru but cant believe i'm going to have to spend so much money on a 5 year old car.i have a family of 4 and am scared to take them in the car in this condition.i have to drive it in this condition until i can save the money it's going to cost to repair the transmission.subaru should issue a recall on this transmission.

I was getting gas at a station. When i was finished pumping gas i entered the car, started it, put it in reverse, braked, put it in drive, it rolled backwards, put on the brake, it continued to roll backwards, gave it some gas since it was still in drive, car jumped forward almost hitting car parked in front of me, my foot was still on brake and in drive while i tried to keep it from rolling backwards. Tried to manipulate brake and gas to stop rolling backwards. Eventually i swerved around parked car in front of me without hitting it.this has happened 4 times since i purchased new car. I went to 2 subaru dealerships and they said that is normal.

Transmission fluid leak

The transmission has been leaking since we purchased the car in jan 2015.one dealer told us there was no leak and finally decided it was the right differential and repaired that.the transmission still leaked.took it back to dealer where bought, they found leak and said it was repaired but it is still dripping.plan on taking it back to them next week.we keep clean cardboard under the area where the leak is to protect the garage floor and document the leak.last repair july 25 of 2017.

Received subaru recall (wuj-95) on aug,3.2020 pertaining to exhaust pipe bellow failure. The recall includes replacement of the exhaust y-pipe that is installed from engine to tale pipe. This exhaust pipe in my understanding was installed under a stress manufacturing process where the pipe and fastener system has to be forced in to install. This puts excess stress on the bellows and caused failure. My question is why did subaru wait five years to notify the consumer and issue a recall. Please return my request for a full explanation of what happened. 2nd. I would like to address the cvt transmission issue. Subaru extended the transmission failure time line to 10yr-100,000 mile. I am having many issues with my cvt transmission and subaru will not issue a recall. With all the complaints and problems with the gen-5 cvt transmission would please take a 2nd look at this issue.

I received a safety recall from the nhtsa (campaign id number 15v502 - transmission oil leak).i contacted the subaru dealer and they tell me there is no such recall.who is right?

Extreme engine hesitation (cvt) from idle stop making a turn, ie center turning lane.driver cannot rely on normal opposing traffic breaks to complete a turn. You must increase that distance by at least 5 times, then you don't know if engine/transmission will kick back in! this is extremely dangerous! dealer: "that's the way its supposed to work!??? this has happened several times!

The contact owns a 2015 subaru outback. While driving 60 mph, the vehicle failed to accelerate, lost power, and the check automotive transmission and check engine warning indicators illuminated.

When i change gears from p( parking) in to d(drive) it take around 2 seconds to start the car driving i think that is bad for transmission, another problem is with taching screen it doesn't work properly many times especially when i'm driving in r(rearverse) and the gear lights in dashboard do not turn on . Thanks

Continuous variable transmission (cvt). The vehicle stopped while making a left turn suddenly motionless, engine revved up at 3500 rpm but the cvt remained unresponsive. Paced shift gear to park position then to drive gear then the vehicle moved-up very slow then it pulled forward to a normal driveable condition. This issue happened in 2017, 2018, 2019. Took to dealership 2x tested the vehicle but, no problem found and no manufacturer's issue was release. Several subaru owners complaints with the same issue, on 2013 - 2015 outback models.the battery on 2015 outback model like mine, had replaced in 2017 while under warranty up to 3 - years. Lately, the battery died several times, took back to the dealer for test and replacement but, the 3 - years warranty was over from its original purchased. The warranty should be applied on the second battery replacement that runs for the next 36 - months. Another issue is the catalytic converter the vehicle has, took back to the dealer last july 2020, a srvice advisor admitted that there was a problem, the vehicle drove for testing then came back with nothing wrong on the catalytic converter per mechanic assessment. The front exhaust pipe was cracked andit was repaired as part of manufacturer recalls. There are issues on this model referring to the cvt, battery, infotainment got freezed, no data on screen, engine oil consumption to fast. The main issue for me is the "safety issue." which is the transmission. First time it happened was in 2017, 2018, 2019.

While driving down freeway at 75 mph, transmission made two clunking sounds, and speed decreased - rpms increased.we could smell oil burning smell, but no smoke or leaks.we were approximately 12 miles outside of las vegas and 22 miles into our trip. There was no warning and no decrease in speed or other signs prior to the clunks/clanks.vehicle towed to subaru of las vegas.first subaru tried to say rear differential caused.please see dan's driveline invoice.next they tried to say front differential caused.i challenged - how can a functioning differential cause a transmission to become toast?next step is subaru hq tech to tear down transmission.i've included documents from auto lab (did 30k mile service), subaru invoice, subaru email saying front differential caused,

Transmission failure. It is a known issue with models with their original cvt transmission, but rather than issue a recall, they're extending warranties and fixing as they break. This left me with no power on a state highway that had speed limits of 75mph. I managed to make it to the shoulder to be stranded for an hour waiting for a tow truck. This is extremely unsafe and if it's a known issue, i'm not sure why they're not preventing these scenarios. I was going about 70mph in the center lane of a 3 lane highway when suddenly my car jerked and then wouldnt accelerate.

After moving vehicle in reverse, then shifting into drive, the transmission remains in neutral until the accelerator is depressed allowing car to roll backward if on an incline. There is then a surge forward when it does engage.also, on a cold start when temp. Is below 0 trans will stay 1-2 gears lower than it should for > 5 miles allowing for excessive engine rpms.after taking car to dealer, i was informed that both these conditions were normal for this transmission.

I had stopped to disembark myself and passengers. I turned off the engine. I did not realize it was not in park. As the passenger on the left was getting out, the car started to roll backwards. I was able to put on the brake to stop it and put it in park. I have a push button ignition. On page 3-6 of the owner's manuel it says " the push button switch cannot be switched to "off" when the select lever is in a position other than p". In contacting the dealer ship they checked other outbacks with push button starters and they also have this problem.

Intermittently the car does not respond when the accelerator is depressed.i am told by the dealership that this is a common problem with the cvt transmission. This is a major safety issue as i have almost been hit on several occasions when turning left or merging into traffic.if the accelerator is depressed more and more, the car finally lurches forward (or backward if backing up) and the brakes have to be slammed on.

Left rear wheel bearing failed at 40,293 miles in may 2016left front wheel bearing failed at 76.699 miles in feb 2018this is a defect that should be investigated

Left hand wheel bearings (hub unit) failed and was replaced under warranty at 17,000 miles.right hand wheel bearing (hub unit) failed and was replaced under warranty at 32,000 miles.

.of us as traffic was causing it to speed up and slow down.with no warning, our car suddenly lurched aheadas if i had stepped hard on the gas pedal, throwing us back in our seats.after a few seconds, it hit brakes and threw us forward.it did not completely stop but resumed previous speed. This continued to happen every couple of minutes.i took the first exit that appeared, about two miles ahead.i was very frightened that we might collide with the van in front or swerve into the traffic in the lane next to us, or that it might suddenly stall in our lane.i did not try to stop the car although i had my foot resting on the brake pedal.it badly frightened my wife and i.the car has a cvt transmission.we stopped in a parking lot and then had car towed to closest of two subaru dealers in the area.i had both of them run extensive checks on engine, power train, computer, etc.neither could identify any issues that would cause the problem.my wife has sworn she will never drive or ride in the car again.i can't blame her.we have to go over a winding, hilly road of about ten miles to go home.there is heavy car and truck traffic off and on throughout the day.to get home, we rented a car as i now fear driving this road in this car at anytime day or night. The dealer where we bought the car has offered to store the car for us until we decide what to do. I've tried calling subaru and will try again.long wait periods so far.this is our second subaru.first was a 2012 outback which we traded for the current one which we have leased.the irony of this is that we bought the current one for its many safety features!i've owned many cars in my life but have never experienced anything like this!

Subject 2015 outback cvt transmission lurches and bogs during acceleration, we have tried working with subaru for repair however, they consider the unit as working to within standard and will not replace unless it fails completely.

At 65000 miles i had to replace a wheel bearing.i have never had a vehicle need a wheel bearing with this low millage.i am told others have had the same problem.

The contact owns a 2015 subaru outback. The contact stated that while at a complete stop, the vehicle failed to accelerate without warning. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where the technician informed that the vehicle was functioning as designed. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 856. Updated 02/18/15*lj updated 9/12/2017

The contact owns a 2015 subaru outback. While driving 35 mph, the vehicle's wheels seized and the vehicle jerked violently. The failure occurred without warning. The vehicle was towed to subaru of las vegas (6455 w roy horn way, las vegas, nv 89118) where it was diagnosed that cv axles and the transmission failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 24,000.

I was slowing pulling into a parking space and just straightening out the car when i heard a strangesound coming from the engine.immediately after that i heard a very loud engine revving sound and thensuddenly the vehicle shot forward like a rocket, went over the cement barrier and into the wall of a building.it seemed like a very high rate of speed, though the distance was only about 8 feet.theseat belt did not restrain me and my chest slammed into the steering wheel.it was determined later atthe hospital that i had a cracked sternum and several broken ribs.i believe there was some sort ofmechanical, electrical or software problem that caused this unintended acceleration, and the seat belt alsowas did not functioning as intended.

Substantial rust has developed at the attach point of the driver's seat-belt to the driver's seat and of the attach-point of the driver's seat to the car. We're the original owner and the car was never flooded or exposed to water in any other way. I took it to the dealer two weeks ago and they didn't know what to make of it or do about it. They reached out to subaru and (as of 4/24) the dealer hasn't received a response. The passenger side doesn't have this problem, but the design is entirely different -- no exposed metal. Interestingly, when the service advisor checked other later-year gen 5 outbacks the design had changed: there was no longer any exposed metal in the equivalent location. The newer design for the driver-side attach-point mimics the passenger side - no exposed metal. A 2016 outback in for service had the same exposed metal design on the driver-side seat. It also had rusting at the same location (although not nearly as severe as on mine). It does not seem safe to have this kind of rust at such a key attach-point for the seat and a critical safety device like a seatbelt. We live in a warm/temperate part of california and the car has always been "homed" in part of california, so it has not been exposed to harsh weather.

Automatic front seats. When wife opens the passenger door first (before the driver) the driver seat adjusts to her set position. An d if i don't pay attention the driver seat will push/crush me into the steering wheel. I have a bad back and drop foot, so i don't have the strength of a younger person. My only salvation is to squeeze out or hit the position button on the door panel. Also, the presets go out all the time. I have asked if they could disable the passenger side door sensor. Nothing.rear gate opening: it has happened so many times. I have complained directly to subaru about the seat and gate problem. No results. The rear gate has opened while raining outside during the night. It has opened while in the garage jamming the overhead garage door. I am afraid on trips to have stuff stolen out of my car is such an incident. Happened once.also... They have a cute preset so you can set the max height of the gate opening. Twice my wife has walked into the rear gate and literally flipped backwards to the pavement!subaru denies any problems about the gate. Funny, one day i was helping a friendand her mom was there. As they helped me unload my subaru we discovered that mom had also a similar model.the first question she asked me "have you any problem with your rear gate"!!!it's not just me. Subaru needs to step up and fix these problems before someone really gets hurt or have loss of items from the car.

I have a new 2015 subaru outback limited. Within a month of purchase, it started giving me lower back pain. Several owners of new 2015 outback including professional reviewers are also reporting back pain and injuries because of over extending lumbar support - some examples attached below. When contacted subaru, i was advised that nothing can be done to reduce the lumbar support. Dealer also advised me that nothing can be done from their side. It would be greatly appreciated if this can be investigated.http://www.subaruoutback.org/forums/138-gen-5-2015-present/210521-too-aggressive-lumbar-support-killing-my-back.htmlhttp://www.kbb.com/car-news/all-the-latest/2015-subaru-legacy-finally-a-contender/2000010841/.

While parking the car at an open parking lot in shopping center at low speed (<5mph) the engine surged suddenly and the vehicle accelerated uncontrollably. It required tremendous pressure on brake to eventually override the engine.

Attempted to come to a stop at a parking spot in front of a shop but car sped up and collided with a wall 6 feet in front of the car.automatic braking system did not work or engage at slow speed.

Brake pedal can be depressed below the accelerator. If the right foot is only partlally on the brake pedal, the right foot can depress the accelerator at the same time. When stopped at a light or nearly stopped, the car accelerates unintentionally. No accidents.

I've having break problems with this car since i first bought used. Pre owned certified with the dealership. I've took the car in a couples saying the breaks make loud squeaking noise and pulsing every time i hit the break and sometimes doesn't stop immediately. 'scary situation'. The service guy looks at it and always says nothing wrong with it. I take it back and it's repeat all over again with supposedly nothing wrong with the breaks. I gave up on planet subaru dealership and decided to change the breaks myself to see if that correct the issue. Nope it didn't correct the issue. My breaks are still pulsing and making a loud squeaking noise. I put noise free on the breaks and still not helping, when the breaks start to pulses, the break gets tight and won't stop immediately. Winter is coming and i'm sure this will be the death of me. Subaru needs to fix this issues. I'm sure there will be more complaints regarding this soon. Subaru cars are not reliable anymore. I'm scared driving this car with my break problems and subaru not wanting to fix the issues. Purchased the car april 2018 and now it's november 2018. The last 7 months of continuous break problems.. I don't know what todo. Subaru breaks aren't cheap to fix myself. They should stand behind there product and fix it.

2015 outback with 43,300 miles. Total brake failure while driving down a hill. I was able to stop the car with the transmission before it reached the railroad tracks. Dealer said this was due to excessive corrosion of the underbody of the car. Brake lines corroded and ruptured. Dealer said this was normal amount of corrosion. (they didnot want to put this in writing) contacted subaru of america. (case # 1-58312860198) they said that since dealer said it was no big deal there was nothing they could do. Case closed. I am concerned that since the corrosion is so severe that this could happen again. (this car has a long history of other things not working)

Brakes were momentary applied by suburu eyesight braking assist system while driving (in motion at approximately 65 mph) on a straight portion of an interstate highway with no obstruction apparent.this had also happened one other time in the same vehicle several months before in similar circumstances.on both instances the driver had her foot on the accelerator and the brakes released after only a short deceleration.a quick flash of the bas warning light was also observed in the second instance.a second person in the car at the time also states that there was no obstruction seen on the road and the distance to any car ahead in the same lane should not have caused the problem being reported. There was a real concern that cars following us on this busy highway could have easily caused a rear-end collision if the brakes had not released quickly.the driver had never taken her foot off the accelerator and was caught completely by surprise.

The contact owns a 2015 subaru outback. While approaching a stop light, the brake pedal was depressed but the vehicle failed to stop. The contact had to depress the brake pedal with extreme force in order to stop the vehicle. The contact had to shift the vehicle into park in order for the vehicle to remain stopped. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 9,000. Updated 7/13/18

I driove out of my driveway one block to stop sign. Only going 10 or so mph when i depressed brake to stop at stop sign . Power brakes did not respond until pedal was depressed hard to floor. Then when stopped the engine reved up and i did not take my foot off brake.the engine seemed to roar like in a very low gear.i checkedgears and put it in neutral, then park and reverse, engine still roaring. But as my foot was hard on brake, it did not go into four lane traffic ahead. I turned off engine with key and the engine reving stopped..when i turned the car on again the brakes worked normally andacceleration was normal .it seemed to resetandi was able to drive it to subaru dealer for repairs albeit very slowly. I probably should have had it towed. There are no floor mats in the car. Driver not impaired. This occurred around 10 am on a clear august day temperature around 75 degrees .

Invalid braking incidents with subaru outback's eyesight pre-collision braking system. My car has brake suddenly, without cause on 3 occasions. 1) sunny morning on a crowded residential street going less than 25mph with no cars directly in front of me, car gave warning and immediately braked stopping the car.2) sunny afternoon on a wide residential street going about 30mph with no cars directly in front of me, car gave warning and immediately braked slowing the car significantly.3) dark and raining on a major highway going 70mph using adaptive cruise control with no cars around me, car gave warning and immediately applied the brakes hard (no skidding or swerving) slowing the car to about 25mph before releasing control to me. Very fortunate that no cars were behind me. After each incident, i took the car into the dealership. The dealer was unable to recreate the problem and said they could not fix the car if they could not recreate the problem. After realizing the significant safety issue following the third incident, i called subaru corporate customer service. Subaru sent a corporate engineer to look at the car and the data recordings. They were unable to find any issues with the car and again said they are unable to make any repairs without recreating the problem. In the 2+ years and over 30,000 miles i've driven the problem only occurred 3 times, the dealer recreating the problem seems unlikely given their limited time with the car.

Automatic breaking activated for no reason but only for a very short time but very hard. Then released. There was a flash of something on the dashi think a breaking warning and beeping sound.moving approx 35mph, not breaking, on 2 lane road ( east pea ridge rd. Huntington wv). Nothing in front of me for quite a distance. No one coming toward me either. Road conditions were good. Straight road. ( i have included a google map picture of approximately where it happened) time: about 12:45pmcar was previously a "company car" of my brothers. (wheels inc) i purchaned it in oct 2017. My brother said this had happened to him one time also.found same complaint at:https://www.carcomplaints.com/subaru/outback/2015/brakes/service_brakes.shtmlgoogle map link: https://www.google.com/maps/@38.4181887,-82.3074982,3a,75y,91.28h,90.13t/data=!3m9!1e1!3m7!1s0vricifyqxplamxba7q8dw!2e0!7i13312!8i6656!9m2!1b1!2i41?hl=en

The 2015 subaru outback 2.5i limited w eyesight system had been parked on a surface parking lot near marshall bwi airport for about 12 days.the parking brake had been applied at the time of original parking.this electronic brake could not be disengaged after repeated starts of the car.brakes were apparently locked.a tow truck was called.the car had to be moved with the brakes on to get it out of the parking space and on to a flatbed tow truck.the dealer found that the left rear wheel brake was locked in position.apparently the other three wheels were free to move.the eyesight system malfunction light was on the drivers screen.the service advisor recommended that the parking brake not be applied when the vehicle is parked for a number days, particularly on a flat surface.

When applying the breaks sometimes my foot hits the gas pedal. 2nd. Outbacki purchased .never happened before. Had car since 21 may 2015 happened approx. 4 times.

On february 25 i was driving my subaru on a city street and traveling about 40 mph.i noticed that a traffic light ahead of me would be turning red so i tried to slow down.the power brakes did not work at all. Not only did the power brakes go out but the car began to accelerate on it's own.i looked around for options and decided i could turn off into a parking lot.the brakes (not the power brakes but the back up system brakes) grabbed just enough to slow me down so that i was able to pull off safely into the parking lot.i drove through the parking lot to a place with no cars and was finally able to get the car to stop.as i put the car in park the engine rpms revved up to 4000 so the car engine was obviously still trying to propel the car.i turned off the car and called my husband.when he came, he got into the car and checked things like the car mat position which was in the correct place.he started the car and it was as if the car had got it's brain back.he drove it immediately to the dealership.the dealership could not find anything wrong but did update our computer system.we have not had any problems since then.

File uploaded belowpictures #4 and #5 were not able to be downloaded which show closeups of the tire marks in the bark chips. #3 shows the complete tire mark in the bark chips.

Windowshield cracked just out of the bluebrake light flashes on dash when driving

Slowing to a stop at a traffic light on a city street, manual transmission in neutral, clutch in.speed roughly 2 km/hr.went to stop the car with the brakes, brake pedal went to the floor with no brake activation.tried brake pedal again, same result.activated parking/emergency brake which also did not stop the car.car hit the back of a gravel truck ahead, and seemed to continue to push into the truck 7-10 cm, which is further than i would have expected given the low speed of the collision.collision damaged the hood of my car and broke the headlight lens on the passenger side, no damage to the truck, no injuries to occupants of either vehicle.truck turned through turning light, i carefully moved the car up and tried stopping at the light.brakes functioned normally, so i tried the parking brake and it also seemed to function normally.i pushed on the brake pedal while the car was stationary and noticed much more travel than usual and a spongy feel, but there was resistance where there was none previously.i decided the car was safe to drive and drove slowly to the dealership where i left it to be inspected.

The car does not drive strait , wandering left and right at all the timefrom the day one .checked alignmentat the dealer - no problems .so i am very concern about my safety and can't even think how it's gonna be on the snow ( i live in the northwest )

When my dashboard lights lit up for no reason, it was determined after visiting the dealership that the steering gearbox needed to be replaced.

Driving down straight stretch of freeway on the inside lane at 65-70mph in wet but satisfactory condition, my vehicle suddenly veered violently to the left resulting in collision with central island. No prior warning. Vehicle is very good condition and mechanically sound. Although the left front tire was damaged and deflated, it didn't disintegrate as i would have expected if it had burst at high speed. I have experienced blowout tire punctures in the past and it didn't feel like that. There was a steering column recall for 2016/17 outbacks which my vehicle was not a part of. Could this be an underlying steering issue?

New 2015 subaru outback steering wandering left and right preventing the car from being steered straight. Without constant driver attention vehicle wanders across lanes or off road.

In motion.on country road.there is a gap in the steering wheel column where i got my finger caught while turning right.very sharp pain while returning the wheel to straight.had to more the wheel right again to remove my finger. Could have caused serious problem. I was now on a straight section of road and ended up on right shoulder as i turned the wheel to extricate my finger.i suppose one could lose part of finger or cause an accident.

The backing on the steering wheel core is missing and when turning it is very easy to place part of a finger into the recess that would result in either losing part of the finger or having a fatal accident when straightening out the steering wheel.

Blinding dashboard glare at certain automobile/sun angles.

Noticed an 18 inch crack in my 2015 subaru outback windshield starting at the top under the heating element two months ago. Was not hit by a rock and no impact spot found. Had the windshield replaced three weeks ago. While driving yesterday, heard a cracking sound and noticed a 12 inch crack appear in the lower left (again, starting where the heating element is and again, no rock sound or impact spot). My sister has the exact same car with a crack in the *exact* same spot that developed last week out of the blue (i have photos of both of our cracks for comparison). From doing research, it seems this is a common problem with subaru windshields (www.subaruoutback.org has several forum threads detailing similar reports).

Windshield developed a crack with no noticeable impact from debris.first incident december 1, 2014, windshield replaced with identical model by carlex (minus the subaru oem sticker).the replacement windshield has exhibited the same symptoms (developed a crack with no noticeable impact) on january 15, 2015.this seems like a safety issue for structural and visibility reasons.both cracks began in the windshield wiper heater area.

This car has suffered from, as have many other 2015 subaru outbacks from excessive wind noise.the car has had 2 fixes so far and the problem persists.

2015 subaru outback. Consumer writes in regards to damage to hoses in vehicle due to rodents. *ld

This car has a screen in the dashboard that controls the stereo, phone, and other functions. It has a very reflective glassy finish. The screen is not surrounded by a hood of any sort and it is titled at about a 50-degree angle. On other occasions, i have noticed that this screen reflects a lot of sunlight, but it was more of an annoyance than anything. On this occasion, i was driving the car at about 1:30 in the afternoon, going east on a highway. The dashboard screen was reflecting the sun into my eyes so directly that it was painful. It was also distracting. The light was so bright and so consistent that i had to drive while holding my right hand in front of the screen to block the light. I had to drive that way for probably half an hour. I did not have any sort of "accident." however, i can foresee that under the wrong circumstances, this characteristic of the car could blind or distract a driver from seeing other traffic, traffic signals, etc. And cause an accident. It could also cause someone to keep one hand off the wheel and maybe cause an accident that way. It is my opinion that this characteristic of the car should be addressed.

Vehicle was parked outside overnight. In the morning a 12" s shaped crack had appeared in the passenger side of the windshield. There was no detectable prior damage and no known impact to cause the crack. The crack has continued to grow and branch. Dealer states the windshield fails the "pen test," i.e. There is a tiny nick at one point of the crack which, they say, proves the crack is due to impact damage.i believe the chip appeared after the crack formed, but cannot prove this (nor can the dealer prove the opposite). Online research suggests there is a design defect in 2015 subaru outback windshields, which fail at remarkable rate.

Passenger side "child lock" will not disengage.door is permanently locked from the inside because of a faulty child lock. We set the child lock our child was a toddler but now it's stuck in the on position.

We were driving our 2015 subaru outback at about 55mph on us20, the temperature was in the mid 30's, in east oregon when our sunroof spontaneously exploded. There were no other vehicles around and there was no impact from foreign objects. There was a loud, distracting, bang followed by a cloud of shattered glass coming from the back of the car. The sunroof cover was closed and the tempered glass fragments collected in the well and rattled around for the remaining 3 1/2 hours of our journey.

The front passenger door has delaminated.this is confirmed by a the door sounding like a drum when closed, the lower portion of the door vibrating when closed and a mechanic at the daryl waltrip dealership who inspected the inside of the door.the dealer only wants to put a band aid on the problem by placing pads inside the door to deaden the sound.the concern is for the front seat passenger who could be seriously injured in a side impact collision because of the reduced structural integrity of the door.

For the second time, after being pinged bya small stone, the windshield developed a crack circa 3000 milessimilar experience w/ 2014subaru outback also w/ low mileage never had to replacewindshieldin some 56 years of drivingthree times in 7 months seems to indicate some sort of systemic or windshield configurationproblem?

Rear hatch does not reliably open - cannot close after manual override.vehicle has had issue for over 15000 miles and 5 times at the dealer but has not been resolved. Rear hatch does not open reliably and when a manual override is necessary to remove cargo or pets, the hatch does not close easily and door light remains on even while driving. This causes and obvious safety issue both for cargo escaping the vehicle and also for exhaust entering the vehicle.this occurs with all doors unlocked, vehicle is stopped, key fob is attempted as well as door trigger to open the hatch. No memory set when attempting to open. No user error.

Fuel door does not open to allow access to gas cap.i was low on gas and could not fill the tank because i could not access the gas cap.

Note: no accident - reporting safety issue!!! incident date = date issue identified: as the driver, i am seeing light under the hood in the space between the edge of the dashboard and the opening under the hood. Outside light and road images are visible through the opening for the drivers wiper, due to the wide gap between the drivers front fender and hood. I found this shortly after purchase when i adjusted my seat to the position most comfortable for driving. This was reported to my dealer and subaru. In addition, i presented a video and pictures that shows from the drivers seat, inside the vehicle, i can clearly see outside light and images which is distracting when i drive and to me a safety issue.please review video and pictures links for full details: video:http://youtu.be/6ehucznjw2ustandard format version (lowercase all characters expect following /----czn--2u) hd pictures:https://drive.google.com/open?id=0by5m44gnhdecfllfadm0vmrntm9pns1kbezibej6ewsycvjlexrlsufvthniwupqrxhkr1k&authuser=0

My car was parked in my driveway and developed a crack in the front windshield.no impact mark or anything.cracked in the lower passenger side windshield like all 2015 and newer subaru outbacks apparently do.there are numerous complaints online with people detailing the exact same issue yet no recall yet.

The rear doors for our 2015 outback are stuck in the child safety lock position. This is the second time this has happened. We paid over $300+ to have the mechanic accidentally break the switch and then repair it. The switch on the other door is also stuck with the child safety lock engaged.

This is a brand new subaru outlander with 850 miles.the windshield got a small chip, about 1mm in size near the very top.as i was driving along the windshield started to crack from the small ding down, approximately 1 foot in length.thisshould not happenwith new windshieldglass in a new car.

Rear electric liftgate sporadically fails to open.this condition persists whether i press the button on the liftgate, the dashboard liftgate button, or the key fob button.i can hear the liftgate unlatch, however it fails to open more than a couple inches.lithia subaru (oregon city) has not been able to repair. We purchased our vehicle new from the dealer.it has exhibited this problem from the first day we owned it.subaru should recall and fix all vehicles with this problem.i feel strongly this is an design defect of the electrical system.this sporadic condition presents itself when the vehicle is stationary, both when the engine is running and when it is not.there doesn't seem to be any set of conditions upon which i can cause or predict the failure.

Letter from senator brown on behalf of constituent re 2015 subaru outback structural failure. *ldthe consumer stated the was a leak atthe driver's side roof.

Drivers side front wheel bearing failed at less than 8000 miles.replaced under warranty by dealer.no history of driving through water or accident.large portion of driving does occur on mild mountain road.

Lift gate motor needs to be replaced, making knocking sound.

The electric tailgate sometimes malfunctions and gets stuck in an open position, and can only be forced closed manually by a strong person.my girlfriend hastrouble closing it, and was forced to drive home with the tailgate open. This isunsafe - the tailgate sticks out past the back of the car, following traffic can't see her tail lights, and exhaust gas can be drawn into the car.i've had a similarproblem with my forester. This is unacceptable, complaints are all over the internet. You should force asafety recall and make subaru fix their defective hardware or software. I called the dealer - they said guaranteed fix is to disconnect battery. Howmany people can do this on the road? thanks

I was forced to replace a 2nd failed wheel bearing (left front wheel) on my 2015 subaru outback 4cyl. Limited after 35270 miles today 29july2016.the first failed wheel bearing to be replaced occurred on 15january2016 involving the left rear wheel.in both cases abnormal noise levels while driving from the respective involved corners of the car lead me contact to dealer to confirm suspicions of potential wheel bearing failure in the making.both bearings were replaced under warrantee conditions and i am for the most part satisfied with the repairs performed.however, having two bearings fail that normally could be expected to last the life of the car leads me to conclude that there is a batch of defective bearings produced for subaru that may also be found on other cars assembled approximately the same time my car was made in december 2014 at subaru's indiana assembly plant.i feel this is worth a further investigation by your organization as most consumers probably don't have a clue what a failing wheel bearing sounds like and more likely have no idea how potentially dangerous it is to ignore to warning signs to their detriment.the subaru dealer to contact regarding my specific car is metric auto sales, inc., 1767 east jericho turnpike, huntington, ny 11743 (631) 499-6777

Blind spot detection (also called srvd) did not work when we picked up the new car in feb 2015 the first time from dealer. We did not notice it at the time. We brought it to the dealer to have it repaired. They replaced a part at no charge under warranty. The srvd feature worked for 6 months. The dealer repaired the srvd. It failed again just 2 months later. We are going back into the shop for the 3rd time to fix the srvd.

Pulling into a parking space, stopping when vehicle accelerated at high speed jumped curb an hit a tree, happened in a couple seconds.## vin passed ## subaru outback 2015 ##

Sunroof exlosion.on february 1, 2016 my wife was driving to work at about 8:00 am rush hour and while in the moving line entering the eastward us i69 at the texas hwy 6 south entrance in sugar land texas, at an average speed between 5-10 mpg the sunroof of our 2016 subaru 3.6r with 11305 miles exploded and shattered into hundreds of small pieces that collected on the sunlight protective screen. After i talked to my wife and verified that she had received no damage from the incident i called the gillman southwest houston subaru dealership where we bought the car on may 30 2015 and made a service appointment for the next day. During the service check-in on february 2, 2016 together with the gillman service consultant we looked as thoroughly as it was possible through the glass debris to try to find any foreign object that might have caused the damaged but we did not find anything. I very specifically requested that when the sunroof was taken out of the car for replacement that they perform another search since it would be easier to do the search with the sunroof assembly out on the floor. When the car was repaired and returned the gillman representative confirmed that they had done another search but failed to find any foreign object on the glass debris. Because the dealership did not have a sunroof on stock i left the car on the dealership until february 5, 2016 when the car was returned. During the checkout i was informed that the repairs were not covered under the car warranty because it was assumed that a foreign object had caused the damage and i was charged $666.34 the december 2017 edition of consumer reports made me realize that this is a potential safety issue that should be reported.

When i change gears from p( parking) in to d(drive) it take around 2 seconds to start the car driving i think that is bad for transmission, another problem is with taching screen it doesn't work properly many times especially when i'm driving in r(rearverse) and the gear lights in dashboard do not turn on . Thanks

Subaru rear vehicle detection (srvd) system has failed after owning car for 16 months.the 2015 outback has very bad blind spots and presents a very unsafe condition while operating the vehicle in traffic with this system inoperative.

I have 2015 subaru outback with eyesight and blind spot detection. I had stopped the vehicle in the driveway, about 10 ft from the garage, waiting for my husband to clean the floor. The engine was running. When my husband came out of the garage and signaled me to park the vehicle inside, i was about to move the vehicle slowly in the garage. However, the vehicle suddenly started like a bullet, as if it was trying to accelerate to that set speed, quickly. My husband heard the wheels screeching and the vehicle accelerating. He jumped on the side and survived by an inch or so. Within a fraction of a second, the vehicle hit the center support which supports the garage doors, then the snow blower and further struck the items kept against the wall between the house and the garage, before coming to a stop. It appears that, in addition to the brake i applied, eyesight may have helped stop the vehicle. I have been driving in the us for over 18 years without a single incident. Parking in the garage is the simplest of all the tasks. I strongly believe that the vehicle may have accelerated on it's own due to some malfunction.

My dashboard releases vocs so much i cannot keep the windshield clean and the sun blinds my view because of it. I clean almost every day but the smog just gets moved around and will not clean. It is a terrible safety hazard. They need to manufacturer the dash with a safer material.

We had the same experience with our windshield that others have had -- see, eg, complaint # 10730819.about two weeks after buying a new 2015 outback, while driving out of our somewhat steeply-angled garage, the windshield cracked.i saw no evidence of a stone hitting the windshield and thought there was a structural defect.took the car to our dealer who did a "pen test" on the exterior of the windshield.the pen tip, indeed, caught in the crack and the repair person said that indicated a rock hit and we just had unfortunate luck.the crack grew quickly, snaking around the windshield, while we waited a few weeks for the replacement windshield to become available via safelite.based on this and other comment sites, i'm concerned about a repeat crack.also, of course, wondering if it was really just "bad luck."our subaru dealer's service department has been non-communicative.i contacted subaru corporate with a complaint and received no response.deeply disappointed - and we've been a "subaru family" for a long time.

I have an intermittent issue with sliding the driver's window, it goes up and rapidly goes down, it looks like it doesn't fit to the upper frame, it is especially inconvenient while raining. That problem appears while driving or parking.

Battery is dead after one day of complete battery chargethis is the third time this has happened on a replacement battery.the original subaru battery failed in same manner.charging system is putting out 13.85 volts when car is running. Battery voltage after trickle charge 12.87. Stationary

The windshield has developed a small crack on the passenger side behind the windshield wiper.i took it to the dealer and they claim there is an impact point at the origin of the crack, yet there is no evidence of any damage whatsoever to the wiper assembly.i washed the car on tuesday 8/11/15 and there was no crack then.the crack was first noticed by a passenger on 8/12/15.the crack seems to be getting larger.the subaru dealer will not cover the replacement under the warranty, but i know nothing hit my windshield.the car is always kept in my garage when not in use.

While driving on highway with the sunroof closed, the sunroof glass shattered sending most of the glass out of the car, but some landed on the driver, passenger, and center armrest. There were no other vehicles within a mile of it. We were wearing sunglasses which protected our eyes.the cause wasand still remains unknown.

There are two problems. One happened twice. When in drive and foot on the brake for a long time -about 3 or 4 minutes. The brake goes soft, the engine speeds up and the car takes off. If someone or car is in front of me the crash when be bad. The second problem is when turning left into a parking space the same thing happened about 5 times. The service department has looked for the problem but did not find anything. A field engineer hook up a computer and rode with me for about 2 hours. Of course noting happened. Also the service department kept the car over night and drove it with no problems. As they all have told me if no problem happens when they have it they can not fix it. Now i may turn the car back in (a lease car) and be out many thousands of dollars or drive with fear and hope nothing bad happens.

Traveling from kansas city mo to phoenix windshield developed crack while driving.we were traveling in a light rain and there was some very small pea gravel being thrown up by passing cars on the opposite side of car.the crack centered over the passenger wiper about 4 inches upward.there was no star formation.i took it to the subarudealership in chandler az.i was told by the general manager that there was a back order on the glass but to wait until i returned to kansas city for repair. During our drive home i called our insurance, subaru (where purchased) and glass company.i found that glass on my outback was at least 6 weeks out.after 6 weeks i was again told the glass remains on backorder.it was finally replaced by safelite on august 25th. Please look into this. Is there some kind of defect in the windshield, installation, or fit? thanks

Consistent battery issues on start up; upon a mechanic looking at battery, the battery is fully charged/ok - but there appears to be possible connection issue? it appears to be a known issue. Is there a fix for this?

Driving at highway speed and sunroof glass exploded for no known reason. Shattered glass rained down into driver compartment. Sunroof was closed at the time. Had similar issue with front windscreen cracking for no apparent reason. Car was sitting in driveway.

Noticed a small windshield crack and was told it couldn't be repaired. It stayed small for a month or so then spread rapidly when weather heated up. I've had dings before in prior cars' windshields, but never a crack.

Windowshield cracked just out of the bluebrake light flashes on dash when driving

I was pulling into a parking space and as i was gradually hitting the brakes, the car started to accelerate on its own at high speed hitting the fence in front. I am sure that i did not have my foot on the gas. I hit the brakes and it was of no use. After hitting the fence the car stopped as i shifted to neutral. I am scared to drive the vehicle.

Passenger side blind spot indicator is intermittent (perhaps 50%). It does not always indicate that an object is in it's view when it actually is. If you depend upon this device to make lane changes, you could have a collision. It fails while moving at any speed above about 5-10 mph and weather does not seem to be a factor. I have had it in to the dealer 3 times and he is unable to fix it even after replacing both blind spot sensors. This problem started when the vehicle was brand new and continues to date. The dealer gave me a 2016 loaner model when working on my car and it had the exact same problem.

Windshield has failed twice with no impacts.latest crack started after i closed the driver door...heard a pop, then watched a crack run from the upper right across the driver's line of sight over the course of a few seconds.there was no impact to the glass, which had been replaced less than 10 days earlier, which also failed mysteriously.

The sunroof on the vehicle exploded randomly. Causing glass to go everywhere all over the car while on the freeway.

Windshield crack appeared without obvious cause.

Was driving and a small rock hit the windshield.i didn't think any thing of it at the time.i parked car inthe driveway.when i came out a couple of hours later there was a huge crack.

Key stuck in ignition when i parked and tried to take key out.i was away from home.eventually, i moved gears and i pushed key inwards and it released.i just had a hefty repair billbefore discovering recalls for this issue on earlier models.

Crack inthe windshield appeared over the weekend. Started in the lower corner on the passenger's side and spread about 2/3 of the way to driver's side.

While parking the car at an open parking lot in shopping center at low speed (<5mph) the engine surged suddenly and the vehicle accelerated uncontrollably. It required tremendous pressure on brake to eventually override the engine.

The windshield on my 2015 outback cracked from the driver's side bottom upward then turned toward the passenger side in an l shape. Took it to the subaru dealership and they of course claim that there must have been an impact that caused the crack.the asst. Service manager actually argued with me and claimed that you could feel a point of impact where a rock "must have hit" and blamed that for the crack.i can feel no point of impact and was in fact driving the car when the crack happened and know that nothing hit the windshield.despite the class action suit against these windshields, subaru is still not willing to replace it after their "close and careful" inspection that took about 10 seconds.they told me the warranty would not cover it.they clearly know there is a problem with these windshields and are doing nothing to correct it, even refusing to replace ones that do have a problem.besides being a bad business move for subaru, this seems like a huge safety issue for consumers.

The horn stopped working. It has been diagnosed as a bad relay switch that is imbedded with the driver airbag in the steering wheel. This should not be happening to a well maintained vehicle that has been serviced regularly. I was almost was in a serious accident on the freeway when the horn failure occured . A vehicle moved into my lane and did not see me and i was not able able to honk and alert them . I was lucky to avoid it by an inch or so.

The srvd (blind spot) not working indicator light comes on--meaning the blind spot mechanism will not work.i have turned the car off and started again which may eliminate the problem.there have been other published complaints as detailed in consumer forums on the internet.the blind spot light on the outside mirrors willwill not work if the srvd is not functioning.

On 4/19/2015 was driving at 40 miles per hour in a heavy rain storm (i-75) in georgia a crack developed in the windshield. We could not identify a source of impact to the windshield. The crack started at the very bottom center of the windshield. The crack then split into a "y" shape and continued over the next several days. We tried to get a new windshield in sarasota, fl our first destination. Local auto glass company recommended by sarasota subaru dealer attempted to order one to replace during our week in town. Then called to advise us it would be at least another week.we were informed there was a nationwide back log of over 600 windshields for the 2015 subaru outback. On 4/27/2015 contacted the subaru dealer in silver spring, md. For possible replacement during our second stop of trip. We were again advised ofa back log on that windshield. They suggestedto contact the dealer near my home. On 4/27/15 contacted international subaru of tinley park, il and all star glass asrecommended by dealer. Windshield ordered 4/27/2015 and was advised again of a nationwide back order of 2015 subaru outback windshields by glass company and my dealer. As of 5/14/15, no windshield available, check back in another week. Subaru dealer at home thinks it was caused by a small stone. Independent mechanics think there is a pressure point on the vehicle that affected the windshield. If there is not a contributing vehicle problem with the windshield then why the very long back log for a new vehicle windshield?really that many 2015 subaru outbacks with windshield problems?and, 3 different dealers in 3 different parts of the country are having difficulty getting the part.when the windshield is finally replaced, will have that area carefully inspected for possible contributing factors.

The windshield cracked in the bottom corner of the passenger side, merely as a result of the windshield wiper retracting onto it while being washed.(i have never in my 30+ years of driving cars had a windshield crack from the impact of a windshield wiper retracting onto it!!!)the crack has since spread almost to the driver side.based on my own research and investigation, i believe the built in windshield de-icer unit compromises the integrity of the windshield glass. In the event an accident were to occur, the windshield could very well shatter and cause bodily injury.a subaru of america representative confirmed via email that "in the past few months we have seen a higher demand for windshield replacement than we usually see.our parts department is working hard with retailers and suppliers availability....we have also updated our production process to improve the durability of our windshields." clearly, the subaru outback 2015 windshields have a defect, and there should be a recall for them to be replaced at no cost to the owner before someone gets hurt.i have an appointment with the local dealership to have the windshield replaced next week.only time will will tell how long this will take and how much it is going to cost.in fairness, the subaru of america rep has asked me to send a copy of the replacement receipt to see if they can help with the cost.considering subaru's reputation, my hope is they will ultimately reimburse me in full.

I was driving on the highway and heard a random cracking sound.i then heard it again couple minutes later.drove home and didn't see anything for several days.this morning while driving home from the gym on a regular road i heard the same cracking sound and then saw a huge crack in my windshield quickly spreading.the crack is quickly spreading and it looks like i will have to now replace the windshield

Windshield randomly cracked on its own. Similar issue as other have reported in past. Begins on passenger side in wiper park near heated zone and continues up across windshield for 12 inches or so. Car was parked, nothing hit the windshield.

Windshield cracked while driving through lake tahoe area without any debris hitting windshield. The crack started at lower passenger corner and has grown past mid section of the windshield.this is the 2nd windshield damaged beyond repair on this vehicle.

I have had this car for 1 year and have had 3 windshields crack. I have never had a car that had this many incidents with cracked windshields

Windshield found cracked unexpectedly when coming out from a store.6" crack grew quickly over 2 weeks, spreading all over the passenger side in a branched formation about 2x1'.yesterday, another crack developed in front of the driver's side and is compromising visibility with a glare from the crack and growing quickly again.replacement windshield is back-ordered for several weeks. Have been waiting about 1 month now, driving with an unsafe/unsightly brand new car, and i'm out a $500 deductible.going to contact subaru as well, but they need more pressure to replace and reimburse this seemingly common problem with this brand new car.updated 10/9/15 *ln.......updated 10/19/15 updated 11/28/2017

Poor battery life has always been a problem. Windshield crack showed up suddenly very recently, right after we got a class action lawsuit notification.the car has very low milage.

Windshield cracked in the lower drivers side corner. The windshield cracked due to unknown reasons and blind spot warning stopped working for no reason

Noticed a small crack in the windshield the morning of 7/23/15, i do not recall anything hitting my windshield, by lunch time the crack had spread half way across the windshield. Now to replace the windshield i'm told it is on national back order and may take quite a while to get a replacement. Sounds to me like subaru installed cheep or defective glass windshields.

Interior rear view mirror broke off the mounting with glass attached to the mounting. Their was no forceful movement or adjustment being applied to the mirror at the time, it just came down. Distracting my driving.

Child lock on back passenger door is locked down so you can't get out unless someone from outside opens.i never used the child lock and have no idea how it got down.took it to subaru dealership and they said it would $350 to fix it.this seems to be a defect.seen many posts of others having the same problem.

I was on a major highway coming to stop for a traffic light. All of a sudden the car accelerated.i pressed harder on the brake but it wouldn't stop. Finally i put the car in neutral and tapped on the gas pedaland the engine tuned down.i purchased the car used in 2017 from honda north.in butler pa. After about 6 months the incident happened.this has been going on since then and has only gotten worse.this past month it has been happening at least twice a week.lrecentlyi almost a small child and his mom pulling out of a parking spot.i have grand children that i take with me daily and i amscared what will happen if they are in the car with me when this happens.does someone have to die before you pays attention to this on going problem.i expect to hear from someone soon before this car accelerates and kills someone

Voice activated navigation system.the voice activated navigation system is extremely unreliable.this could lead to an accident while driving.i

Whileparked overnight the front windshield developed a18 inch horizontal crack at eye level started from the drivers side. The crack is traveling. Air temp was in the 70's, no rain or hail, happened sometime between dec 24-26, 2015.odometer was 9200. I saw on a car complaints website many other 2015 outbacks with the same issue.

I was driving on the freeway and the vehicle stopped, rolled to a stop, and wouldn't start up again. This resulted in a serious accident. I pushed the hazard button but the other drivers account of the accident was that the lights were off. The car had its epb reprogrammed and sub relay replacement done according to the dealership. I had no prior problem with the car stopping unexpectedly. I was knocked out by the accident,so i didn't have much time to surmise what the problem may have been. It must have been like 30 seconds from the time it stopped until we were hit by 3 cars at freeway speeds.

Srvd system keeping getting disabled from no reason, randomly.

The windshield cracked horizontally on the driver's side.nothing hit the windshield to cause the crack.it was fine when i got home from work and parked the vehicle in the garage; the following morning the crack was there.

Right rear passger window blew out and shattered while driving down highway.

The pipes that connect to manifold to muffler need to be replaced after 50,000 miles. Subaru said this is not covered under warrant, because it is not the manifold.

New windshield suffered a minor rock impact on the freeway. The crack propagated quickly. The windshield requires replacement, but the subaru dealers say there is a 3 month backlog!

Navigation system screen has serious glare during daylight hours. Almost drove off road into a ditch yesterday, while trying to see screen.no one else on road.system virtually useless. Also severe glare on driver-side mirror from car interior, makes it hard to see vehicles on left.subaru could fix this problem with designing a pre-cut anti-glare screen cover or simply replacing the navigation system screen with a new anti-glare plastic one.someone will eventually get hurt or killed.

Rapid acceleration - this has happened twice to our subaru. The first incident was about a year ago. My wife was driving and i was the passenger. We drove into our driveway and sat their talking while the garage door opened for a few minutes. Her foot was on the brake the entire time. Suddenly the outback surged forward at a rapid speed. Thank god for subaru emergency accident braking system that stopped the vehicle within inches of our back garage wall.i remember my wife saying "what just happened? i didn't do anything we were just sitting their my foot on the brake and it just lunged ahead rapidly. I didn't do anything to stop the vehicle other than step on the brake.rapid acceleration #2 - this happened two weeks ago and i was driving with no passengers. I was pulling into our garage and again the outback rapidly surged ahead. I stood on the brakes to stop and had no response. The eye sight emergency braking system kicked in and stopped the vehicle with a panic stop. I am positive in both cases we were braking the vehicle and our foot was not on the accelerator.i feel unsafe driving this vehicle. If someone is standing in front of this vehicle when it rapidly accelerates they will be injured or killed and i don't want to ever see this happen. I feel subrau should supply me with a free loaner car until this problem is fixed. I know their is no safety recall issued and the dealer will only replace the control module at customer expense.

There is a crack in the windshield that showed up about 5 months and has increased in size. Before brining it to the dealer (napoleon subaru in schaumburg, il), i had the vehicle checked by a local mechanic and was told the crack was due to the faulty windshield and not because of any impact. There has been no impact to the windshield to my knowledge and yet the crack appeared and has spread.subaru dealer said that the crack may have been caused by an impact but again i don't recollect any impact that could cause this.the subaru dealer said he did his pen point check and the crack was not caused by subaru's fault.what the subaru dealer told me about the pen point check makes no sense tome especially as there has been no impact to my windshield. I am very disappointed that subaru and the dealer are lying about the faulty windshield and are refusing to replace it (which i am assuming is also a faulty oem part).i have owned several cars before and i've never had this issue before. I repeat, never before on any car, especially a new car. I checked with a local mechanic and again, was told this was likely caused by faulty windshield. Either to avoid admitting fault or to avoid paying for a recall for this item or for avoiding liability in a lawsuit, i don't know but i feel like subaru is deliberately lying or misrepresenting the facts about it.i don't know what i should expect from writing this complaint but i am writing because i am extremely disappointed with this.we were considering a subaru forrester for next year but i am not going to do that now given how badly subaru is treating me on this fault of theirs. I suspect subaru will not do the right thing despite it being subaru's fault at putting in a bad windshield and instead push the cost to the car buyers. I can be reached on the cell at [xxx]. Thanks. 7/28/15 - i came out to my 2015 subaru outback at the end of the work day and found a "v" shaped crack in my windshield, approx 9-11 inches in each direction, originating below the windshield wiper in the middle of the windshield. My first thought was defect in the glass since the temperature that day was approx. 93 deg. 7/29/15 - i went to the nearby dealership and upon inspection by the service dept. Was told "a rock hit the windshield" which caused the windshield to crack. My response, "how could a rock hit under the windshield wiper where there is no evidence of a rock hitting it?" the cost to replace the windshield is over $700.00, not covered by subaru warranty and the windshields are backlogged by 4-6 weeks since there none in stock. I returned home discouraged and immediately pulled up numerous complaints about the 2015 windshields cracking. 7/30/15 - i went to the dealer where i purchased my car, armed with 19 pages of windshield complaints. The service dept rep inspected the windshield and also said "a rock hit the windshield" but said this is common occurrence, windshields were in scarce supply and not covered by subaru warranty. However, he was able to locate the last windshield they had in stock and reserved it so i now have a repair date in a week. I am still going to have to pay the $700.00 whether it is covered by my insurance company as comprehensive or cash out of pocket. I questioned the service rep about this obvious defect, thickness of the glass and the heating element under the passenger side wiper and other vehicles hit by small pebbles where "pitting" would occur but not cracking when hit. As a good service rep, his answers were evasive but empathetic, which led me to believe this issue is being ignored by subaru. I was assured, though, if in the future, subaru were to have a recall on the windshield, i would be reimbursed.

During the fall of 2019, i noticed an exhaust smell when starting my 2015 subaru outback in my garage. This smell coincided with the car running rough when starting and the exhaust smell entering the cabin when the heater was turned on. I did not notice this cabin exhaust smell in the summer due to using the ac on recirculate. The exhaust smell was especially noticeable when i was idling waiting to pick up my kids and sitting at traffic stops. I brought my vehicle in to a subaru dealer and they stated that my catalytic converter was cracked and should be replaced. This was when my car was at 80,829 miles and they actually had the part on hand. I am assuming that this happens to them quite frequently since stocking a $1500 on hand would not be the best use of inventory.the repair cost $1940 since my emission warranty was barely out due to the 829 miles. I explained to them that this was happening way before the 80,000 miles, but they refused to cover it under warranty.i feel that having exhaust entering the cabin should be an exception to the warranty, especially when kids lives are involved. Also, by having this part on hand tells me that i am not the only owner having this type of problem with my subaru.

After just picking up my new 2015 subaru outback and driving in bright sunlight, i realized there is a hazardous condition related to the car's infotainment center. The area surrounding the display screen is an extremely glossy black mirror-like reflective surface. While driving, the sun reflects off of this surface into the eyes of the driver. This intensity is enough to cause eye pain, as well as distract the driver. Now when driving on a sunny day, rather than keeping both hands on the wheel, i need to use my right hand to shield my eyes from this distracting reflected glare. I attempted to purchase an anti-glare shield, but they only cover the display area (which actually is not reflective). I need to cover the reflective perimeter trim area. Subaru needs to provide an anti-glare shield that covers the entire infotainment center.

I heard a pop on the highway, although nothing hit my vehicle. Several small cracks appeared-one quickly got larger. I had called subaru a few months before about the pop as my mechanic said the windshield should be replaced-there was no reaction to this complaint. I have had issues with wind noise with this vehicle, and had the small window replaced as well. There is a general issue with the window sizing and placement of the windows in this model, and subaru needs to issue a recall before a serious accident occurs.

The windshield cracked earlier this year and had to be replaced.the crack extended from the upper right to the drivers side.last week a rock hit my windshield and within minutes a 2 foot crack appeared (extends from upper right to the middle).the crack is continuing to grow.i'm concerned there is a safety issue with the windshield.

I was at work today and when i left i sat in the outback for about 10 min with the air conditioning on and made phone calls.when i got ready to take off i heard a crack.i looked around and didn't see anything.about 30 minutes ago, my husband and i went to pick up the grandkids and my husband said, "how did the windshield get cracked? he was right it was cracked right at the rearview mirror.i call the service department of the sales company and they said i will have to come when a subaru rep is in the store and he will tell whether it was defective material.it has to be a defect, i was sitting still and it just cracked.it was not hit by anything, and there are no indents where it was hit.

Windshield spontaniously cracked from passenger b piller to center.was getting ready to leave a motel in az on a cold, frosty rainey day.i had turned on defroster and heater.as we started to move the vehicle to the freeway , passenger and i both heard a pop and noticed a crack running from behind the passenger b piller to the center.no other vehicles were moving near my vehicle.subaru has denied claim claiming windshield damaed by arock.i have never notice a rock strike on the windshield.the vehicle was in motion but not in traffic- on access road.

Lines have appeared across my navigation screen. Lines make the screen almost impossible to read the screen especially in strong light due to the glare.the back up camera view is also impeded by the lines and the glare.the dealer tells me that this is normal as it is part of the touch screen.these lines were not on the screen for the first year i had the vehicle.the dealer will not address the issue even though the car is still under warranty. The lines appear at all times (when the vehicle is moving or stopped).

Navigation screen reflects sunlight so you can't see important information. Map shows zigzag pattern. Tried changing contrast, didn't help. This is a constant problemwhen on the highway. Dealership said the new subaru navigation screen is fine,i don't need a new car!

The power lift tailgate does not open routinely in cold weather. When the temperature drops below 40 degrees fahrenheit, the power lift tailgate may not open or lock properly until the car has achieved a stable interior cabin temperature of 70 degrees fahrenheit or higher. This problem started in october of 2015, not long after the vehicle had eyesight system recall service. The problem is most likely to occur when the vehicle has been not been running or has been parked for several hours during cold weather.i have called and have spoken with at least three different subaru dealership service departments about the problem and all claim to be unaware of the problem, except in october (2016) one service managerdid state he believed a bulletin about the problem could be forthcoming.

Shortly after purchasing our vehicle, a pebble hit the windshield causing a chip in drivers side. Chip was repaired by our dealership, but was in line of vision. Was excepting this repair, but thought the windshield material was too soft or brittle for this small repair, now have a broken windshield from chip on left side, needs replacing.

Takata inflators. While driving we noticed the speed control system stopped functioning, it would not activate or engage.we pulled over and turned off the engine, after about 1 minute we started up and once on the road it was working fine for about 5 miles or so then stopped again.then the abs light along with other instrument lights would come on.when we got home we called a mechanic and advised we bring it in, which we did.he said the speed sensor is bad (part #27540al11b) which caused other lights to come on and said it was not safe to operate the vehicle especially where we drive which is in the sierra nevada mountains.he ordered part but was told this part is on national backorder and may be available on april 2, 2019.our car has now been in the shop since march 8th, this is such an inconvenience.the car has approx 58k miles on it. Would this not be under warranty.

File uploaded belowpictures #4 and #5 were not able to be downloaded which show closeups of the tire marks in the bark chips. #3 shows the complete tire mark in the bark chips.

My 2015 subaru outback 2.5limited has had significant issues with sudden-acceleration.it will surge while foot is on brake usually at stop signs, red lights.it is becoming worse and more frequent.i am 100% sure that my foot is on the brake and the floor mat is not involved either.it is becoming increasingly dangerous and we have had no results aftertaking it to the dealer on numerous occasions as they state they can not reproduce the issue..it began 3 months after the car was purchased and is still happening a year later

While braking to turn into a parking lot from a highway, the car suddenly accelerated and the brakes would not hold the car. Accident was avoided. Symptom only lasted 2-3 seconds.

My 2015 subaru outback -- have experienced sudden and unintended acceleration. I've mentioned this to the stevens creek san jose dealership when taking my car for maintenance, but they said the behavior is as intended.

Cruise control: when the cruise control (+/-) toggle switch on the steering wheel , which is used to set or change the speed setting of the cruise control, is pressed down to the minus or set side, it intermittently and in variable conditions either does not react at all (i.e. No change to the speed setting), flashes the speed setting on the screen display, but does not change it or more importantly it increases the speed setting and in some cases has caused the vehicle to accelerate while the driver is attempting to decrease the speed setting of the cruise control.

Cruise control (cc) caused what i thought at the time of the incident was unintended acceleration.operation of cc is different from any cc i used in the past.the cc was already engaged and i was going about 40 mph on a highway.i decided to increase my speed, so i pressed the 'set +' button.after a couple of seconds when i reached 43 mph, i released the button.the car continued to accelerate to 70 mph.luckily the highway was empty and i was able to disengage the cc.the problem is that the cc 'set +' (and 'set -') has 2 positions - pushing it half way increases your speed like a traditional cc, and pushing it all the way actually increases the set speed of your cc by 5 mph increments.hence when i thought i was just accelerating to 43 mph, i was actually setting the cc speed to 70 mph.one of the option packages with the car adds this 5 mph increment 'feature'.the quick reference guide and the regular manual do not mention this 'feature' - it is only mentioned in one of the auxiliary manuals for the option package.i think under different circumstances that this incident could have turned out much worse than it did.the cc does not work like traditional cc, and the controls look like a traditional cc.

The eyesight system turns on and off intermittently. The vehicle is traveling at speed and all of sudden it is not. The windshield was clear and it was not raining. The vehicle was traveling in a straight line. This has been an ongoing issue which the dealer is unable to resolve.

The contact owns a 2015 subaru outback. While pulling into a parking space at low speeds with the brake pedal depressed, the vehicle accelerated, jumped the curb, and crashed into a house. There were no warning indicators illuminated. There were no injuries. The air bags did not deploy. A police report was filed. The fire department arrived at the scene. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic. The contact called stohlman subaru of sterling (21736 auto world cir, sterling, va 20166, (888) 811-7714) and informed them of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 15,000. The vin was invalid.

While pulling my father-in-laws subaru outback into my garage i place the vehicle into drive while applying the brake.the car immediately accelerated while my foot was on the brake.the car proceeded into garage first hitting the side of the garage door frame and then into the back of my other car which was parked inside the garage.i instinctively applied greater pressure on the brake but this did not stop the car.when the car wedged against the right side column of the garage i released the brake and reapplied immediately. This action caused the car to decelerate to an idle mode.i've been driving a long time and have never experienced an issue like this before.i noticed others have also experienced similar sudden acceleration problems as reported on this site. There was no floor mat obstruction so i can only conclude there is a possible software issue.

While driving the car, a crack appeared in my windshield on the driver side.it formed an reverse l about the middle of the windshield.there was no impact or anything hitting the windshield. The crack appeared before my eyes as i was driving up the road.

Windshield has cracked multiple times

Windshield cracked in parking lot.very long break starting at base and continued halfway up through the center.

We have 7,100 miles on our new & very first subaru outback.this past week we developed a crack that began on the lower 4 inches / center portion on the passenger side of windshield. Yes, there is a "very smallnick"from where it began. Believe me, it's smaller than the top of a straight pin. The crack started out in 2 directions and over the past few days has grown to 20 inches and 11 inches respectfully, as of today. If you look at the data on the nhtsa web site for complaints about the 2015 subaru outback (104 total 8/20/15 ) 65 of them are about windshields cracking at a very high frequency rate. Plus, the subaruoutback.org web site has a litany of the same complaints . It's to the point, that there is a serious backorder of windshields for the outback. There have even been cases, were after replacement, the problem happens again, shortly thereafter. I have tried to find this type of problem with other vehicles / brands for 2015. There are none to be found! except the 2015 subaru legacy, 10 currently , same type of windshield. That would make it around 75 windshield cracking complaints total. Something other than "bad luck" is causing this issue. Subaru needs to seriously take this issue to their engineering people and find it's root cause and cover a proper replacement . I wouldn't recommend anyone running out and getting a replacement until this whole problem is addressed.again, the replacement windshields are cracking also. Subaru "please step up" and do the right thing for the sake of your reputation and the satisfaction of your many customers, both old and new.

While washing my car, the passenger side wiper blade was extended and retracted into the windshield. I finished by drying the car, including the windshield, with a chamois cloth. No damage was noticeable at that time. After driving to the grocery store and back home, never going over 40 mph, i looked over and noticed an 18 inch crack had developed on the passenger side of the windshield. Close inspection reveals a possible very small impact mark directly under one of the metal blade retention pieces on the wiper blade frame. There were no rocks that hit the windshield between the car wash, the grocery store, and home. I was told by the dealership that i would need to pay to replace it, and that i could just get safelite to do it. Safelite ordered the glass for me and confirmed what the dealership had said, that i would have to wait indefinitely for the glass, as it is on back order. This no doubt is due to the high number of failures as seen on this website and elsewhere on the internet. The local safelite repair shop even had 5 subaru vehicles with replacement glass on order. My research has uncovered numerous customers who have had to replace the glass on these 2015 vehicles multiple times. In my 37 years of driving, i have had windshield wiper blades retract against the windshield untold numbers of times, and this is the first time it has ever caused a failure.i think subaru needs to investigate this issue, find out why it is occurring, and reimburse those customers who have been impacted. This is my first subaru. Other than this issue, i like their product very much. My continued allegiance to them will depend on how they handle this issue.

Windshield on eyesight equipped 2015 outback developed a large crack starting in the wiper heating area just under the passenger side wiper. The crack appeared spontaneous as it appeared while the car was parked and was at least eight inches long.by the next morning with the car remaining parked and only a few degree temperature change overnight it was at least 14 inches long. The only mark on the glass i can find along the crack is a minuscule dot that is absolutely no larger than a grain of sand in the wiper heating area. It is a barely visible and is not even as deep as a grain of sand. It would be invisible except in the brightest light and it seems impossible that it could or should be related to the crack. I have done a quick search online and am finding an inordinate number of complaints of spontaneous cracking, or cracking from entirely insignificant chips on outback windshields. My older outback has 160,000 miles and numerous pits and marks on the windshield with no cracking. Ditto with the old legacy wagon i owned before that. I've never heard of windshields cracking the way they are on the new eyesight equipped vehicles. I believe there is a defect in manufacture that results in the windshields being under enormous pressure. It is only a matter of time before a spontaneous crack shoots through someone's line of sight as they are driving and causes an accident. Subaru needs to be ordered to recall these vehicles and find a way a to prevent this. I foresee a class action suit particularly in light of those who have reported two or three destroyed windshields in the first months of vehicle use.

Large crack in windshield on passenger side extending over 15 inches across. Subaru dealer says it's not covered under the extended warranty. They say it was caused by a microscopic size chip. Reporting because i see online that this is a very common occurrence with this make and year. Just came down one morning and the huge crack was there. Car was stationary in lot. No signs of vandalism. No evident chips before crack appeared.

Wind shield cracked for no reason. No rock impact, no damage, just cracked. Horizontal crack across the middle of the wind shield

Driving 45mp, temperature, 75, no cars in front of me or on the sides or oncoming, the bottom of the window popped on the passenger side in the black wiper/ defroster area. A crack developed running up and to the drivers side, about a foot long at the time of writing this complaint

My windshield has a crack that runs from the lower passenger side to the center of the window and then horizontally across to the driver's side. This first started as a small crack and grew quickly. There is a tiny chip, less than a pin head in size near the beginning of the crack. No star, and not the size i would take to get fixed. I didn't think much of it other than "bummer, a big crack in my brand new car's windshield" until i saw another outback, same body style, with the same crack.i called the dealer to get it replaced and it is on a 3 month backorder. Then i checked this website and saw several similar stories.please look into this.is there some kind of defect in the windshield, installation, or fit?thanks

Our subaru outback was impacted by a small pebble that cracked our windshield. I put in a claim with our insurance company immediately and setup a replacement with safelite. Got a call later indicating that the part is not in stock and needs to be ordered. That was 4 weeks ago at this point and still no indication of when this will be resolved. The cracks continue to spread and now is a safety issue since the cracks are in the driver's line of sight. I (and i assume many other people) have tried contacting subaru and i for one am not getting any response from them on this issue thus we need to continue driving an unsafe car due to the fact we do not have the money to have a rental and again because no one can provide an eta we wouldn't know how long we'd need one assuming we could get one. Based on what i read here this could happen again within a short time once we do get the windshield replaced. Some type of investigation needs to be conducted and a recall issued. I think there is enough evidence to show there is some kind of defect with the windshields of this car and when safety is threatened, steps should be taken to protect us. I apologize if this doesn't fit the criteria of what should be posted here but not having a replacement windshield in a timely fashion in itself is a safety hazard.

The windshield spontaneously cracked at the deicer area.the windshield is available for inspection.the crack has grown and is interfering with visibility.the crack in the deicer part of the windshield is easy to see.i have called and left messages about the cracked windshield for the subaru service manager at the dealership where we bought the car. The service manager has not returned my calls. I drove the car to the subaru dealer and showed the crack to the substitute service manager (brian from kia). Brian took my name and number and said he would contact the subaru rep for me. To date, i have not heard from the subaru rep about the spontaneously cracked windshield.there was no warning that the windshield would crack. I was driving the car on saturday june 5th wheni heard a pop.there was no other traffic on the paved road i was driving on.noticed a crack low on the windshield starting at the deicer area.

My windshield cracked while on the highway.i did not see or hear a stone hit.3 other people were in the car when a 10 inch crack appeared from the driver side corner post toward the middle. No one saw or heard a stone hit. I came home and researched it and there are many complaints on the outback forum about how easily their windshields broke.i think it is a safety issue if so many of subaru's newwindshields are cracking so easily.

While car wash parked in driveway being washed i noticed a crack in the passenger side front windshield .the crack is coming from the lower windshield heater then goes up towards the middle of windshield.still using car and the crack is past the rear view mirror.told by dealer subaru doesn't cover glass breakage advised him i was following up with subaru to please take info and pic's.he suggested going thru my car insurance but there are no rock chips or cracks so why should they pay. He advised he would show to the rep in a few weeks on his visit??. I personally think a windshield is a safety issue and they should move on it now. While researching it and seeing how this is a common issue with other people i am wondering about the safety of the car now. Started a case with subaru.

Small pebble struck windshield passenger side at edge adjacent to heating element at level of mid windshield.this left a small shallow pit in outer glass.12 hours later a crack developed at the windshield edge and extended 12 inches toward the middle of the windshield which is slowly extending

While driving on the access road at around 38mph. A rock hit the windshield and caused a 8inch crack at the lower part of drivers side and goes up into drivers visibility. I have have owned a subaru in the past and have had several windshield incidents and never seen this happen or severe. I fear that their is a defect in the windshield and spoke with subaru and they are unwilling to repair it or take action to the safety of my vehicle.

Defective/delicate windshield. Driving at 65mph on smooth highway in rain. Put defrosters on. Windshield crack on drivers side about 12" from bottom. Runs to about 2' before stopping. Closeup inspection reveals no missing material or chip indicative of impact.

My windshield cracked for no reason on june 12, 2021.large crack took over the left side of the window.crack kept spreading for no apparent reason.

For unknown reasons, my windshield cracked on the driver's side while it was parked in the driveway. There is no evidence of any impact damage.

6-8 inch crack in windshield, no rock impact or previous damage. Windshield has to be replaced and eyesight system re-calibrated. Crack occurred driving straight on a 4 lane highway, no trucks in the area, not close to other cars.

We were extremely happy to purchase our first subaru outback with the new eyesight technology in mid-march.the car was almost 2 months old and i heard something hit the windshield while on a highway that i have been driving on for the past 7 years. I did not notice anything immediately.nine hours later, i picked up a passenger who noticed a large crack at the top of the windshield (the rearview mirror was obstructing my view of the crack) which was about a foot long. Over the course of the next few days, the crack got larger and extended into my line of sight. After speaking to the insurance company, the windshield would be covered, but it was on national backorder and would not be available for 2-4 weeks.the glass arrived two weeks later and my windshield was replaced.exactly one week after the windshield was fixed, i heard a little pop on the window while driving on the highway.i looked around and noticed i got another crack on the windshield.this time on the lower part of the windshield between the wiper blades. The crack started out around 3" long.a day later, the crack grew an additional 5". I started to think this can't be normal for a windshield to crack so easily, and after reading all the posts on this site and others, it seems that this is a common issue for the 2015 outbacks.

My wife and i bought a new 2015 subaru outback in pocatello, idaho. On our maiden voyage home, 10 miles from our home in wyoming the windshield developed a crack on the passenger side. The crack immediately spread to over 18 inches. Several weeks later while washing the car, the crack ran in the opposite direction another 18 inches. I contacted our glass shop and was told that the aftermarket doesn't have windshields available for the 2015 outback at this time. I contacted safelite and was told that the windshield would be available in several days. The night before my wife was scheduled to take the car in for windshield replacement, safelite called me and told me the windshield was backordered for 3 more weeks and the cost would be 100.00 more than the original quote. I canceled the order and contacted a subaru dealer who told me the windshield was on national back order. I contacted subaru customer service and was told they would expedite a new windshield for us and that it should be in on august 1st. Today is august 12th, still no windshield. The original crack happened without ever hearing a rock hit the windshield. Several days ago a small rock hit the driver side of the windshield causing an immediate star crack that spread to a 24 inch crack within minutes. The cars windshield is now obstructed and unsafe to drive. I am reporting here after reading about countless windshield failures on 2015 subaru outbacks that suggest subpar glass or a defect in the structural integrity of the chassis that is causing the glass to stress crack.

Windshield glass randomly and significantly cracked without impact of any kind.

Upon entry of vehicle for the first time of the day, i discovered a 5-6 in. Crack in windshield. I had not observed any impacts while driving the day prior.the vehicle was only 2 months old at the time.all other auto glass issues previously were observed and obvious.having reviewed similar stories and pictures online of issues with the windshield of this model and year the vehicle, i am concerned that the issue is more than coincidence.

Our fully-loaded '15 outback with eyesight & lane assist was parked overnight in the garage (as always).when we got into the vehicle, we noticed an 12-inch crack in the windshield (beginning in the lower corner on the passenger side and heading up toward the center of the vehicle).there was no accident or rock incident to warrant the crack - it came out of nowhere.we called our subaru service department and they referred us to their (outside vendor) windshield repair guy.after several calls to subaru, he was told that subaru has pulled these windshields from their production line because there is an inherent problem with cracking due to their substandard quality and inferior aeronautical design.he said that the subaru plant was waiting on a set of windshields and an order was placed for me, but that i would be competing with the new cars rolling off the production line.this information alone (assuming it is accurate) should warrant a recall. We contacted the windshield guy again today to follow up and he said he just ordered another '15 outback windshield for someone this morning - - same problem (no accident or incident).he reiterated his conversation with subaru production personnel once again that "there is a design problem with the windshields and subaru has pulled them from their production lines."two weeks ago we put a post-it flag inside the windshield at the end of the crack to mark its place and progress - the crack has now grown to 20+ inches straight across the center of the windshield.it is easy to find other folks with this problem - - inexplicable cracked windshields with no obvious signs of cause.the cause and effect of these broken windshields should be investigated immediately before someone is seriously hurt or injured through no fault of their own.

Sudden overnight crack along the top of the windshield, about 2" down from the top, full width of driver's side. Car was parked in front of my house on a quiet residential street, no impact or unusual weather events.

Windshield was hit by a rock.in the middle of the passenger side.approximately the size of a dime.within 4 hours, leaving the car parked, the crack spread a few inches to the left towards the driver side.it stopped in the middle.over the course of a few days, the crack spread until it was almost within view of the driver.

Driving home upon taking delivery, the windshield cracked, starting at the passenger side wiper.within 20 miles, the crack was 24" long.we did not hit anything.after two days of fighting with the dealer, they replaced the windshield.three days ago, with approx. 2000 miles on the vehicle, it cracked again.again, we did not hit anything.the dealer will not replace it.there has to be an issue with this vehicle.i'm an engineer, and have been driving for 35 years.i've never experienced anything like this.

Brand new vehicle, parked on the street for approximately one hour. When returning to the car, a crack in the windshield, beginning at the lower center and extending to the middle of the windshield approximately 6 inches was evident.no debris on windshield and no evidence of it being hit with anything. Crack has now extended further up and around (shape of a large question mark) of about 2 ft in length.contacted local dealers and glass companies for repair but no one has any in stock due to a very large number of these issues. And the projected date for when replacement glass will be available is now july 1 2015, more than 10 weeks since the defect appeared. Given what's been happening, i fully expect this crack to continue to grow and begin to hamper visibility.web searches have yielded many similar reports of this happening.

My wife was driving our outback around town when she noticed a small crack in the center windshield, just below the mirror attachment point.she did not recall any major stone or gravel hits (other than the usual dust/debris on new england roads).later that day the crack had spread to approximately 6" and then three days later (in the interim, she went into labor and had a baby), the crack had expanded to nearly the length of the windshield.we immediately called both the dealer and our insurance company.as is stated elsewhere on the ntsb complaint site, the only windshields available for the 2015 outback are factory, oem units - which are on back order from most dealers and glass replacement companies.given the overall number of complaints about windshield cracking (both here and available through various other automotive sites), i believe that subaru should work to fix an obvious issue with the glass.

Went to pick up my brand new 2015 outback from the dealer and they informed me the windshield was cracked.they will be replacing it, but this crack is identical to others described in many complaints.crack started in the heated wiper element on the passenger side and is now about 12 inches in length.subaru dealer said they believe it occurred in their car wash.looking at other complaints, it is now obvious subaru 2015 outback windshields have a design flaw that should be addressed asap.

We came out to find a 6-8 inch crack line emanating from the top right passenger side one morning. We drove it 5 miles after that and when we came out it had travelled at a 45 degree angle towards the middle of the windshields driver side. By the time we got home it had moved halfway through the glass and ended in a "j" at the middle of the windshield.this will be my third windshield replacement! the first was a recall. The second replacement was from the teeniest ping from a car on the freeway and now this is the third replacement!this is my first subaru.we have always bought toyota in the past. I remember one incident on the freeway from a truck hitting the rav 4 and it was an isolated hole that we could have filled, not replaced!do i really have to have a new windshield every year?! this is ridiculous. I e-mailed subaru three days ago and have had no response.

Interior rear view mirror broke off the mounting with glass attached to the mounting. Their was no forceful movement or adjustment being applied to the mirror at the time, it just came down. Distracting my driving.

Front windshield developed a 20 inch crack, running from pillar on passenger side, toward center of windshield.no appearance of rock strike.no sound of rock strike when crack first developed. Crack started at around 14 inches, and continues to grow longer.car was being driven at highway speeds when crack first appeared, at around 75 mph.

Windshield cracked by the rear view mirror'it started in the black section alongside the mirror and came down and made a j and reverse j patten onto drivers side and passenger side at eye level. I took the car to the subaru dealer and they determined there was no impact point but refused to cover it under the extended warranty because itdid not crack in the windshield wiper area. Windshield was never hit by rock or other debris and there is no apparent reason for it to crack like it did. The crack appeared when the car was parked in my garage. Appears to be a defect in the subaru carlex windshields. I found found several comments online describing this same cracking pattern.

Three days ago, our new subaru outback (purchased in late february 2015) developed a crack in the windshield overnight that is now over two feet in length. The crack runs from the top edge, mid-windshield on the driver's side, and circles around the rear view mirror before tailing off a foot or so above the bottom edge, in front of the passenger's side. No object struck the windshield, it simply cracked. We contacted the dealership, who told us that this would not be covered under the warranty, that no aftermarket windshields are available for this model, and quoted a price of $625 (before taxes) for replacement with subaru glass. The dealership also indicated that there are only a few subaru windshields available in the us.after hearing this, we went online and discovered that many others have had similar experiences with this model.no wonder there are so few windshields available!since we bought the car, we have noticed significant road noise inside the cabin, even with all windows tightly closed. This, coupled with the number of similar complaints we've seen about cracked windshields on 2015 subaru outbacks, leads us to believe that subaru should recall the model, in order to address the design flaw before someone is killed or injured.

Windshield cracked approximately 8". Crack is inside glass (glass is smooth on exterior and interior of car). No temperature fluctuations and no impacts to vehicle. Vehicle parked in garage when crack occurred - glass was not cracked when parked in secure garage friday evening. Was cracked when i went to the car on saturday afternoon.

Drove car to montana, parked in hotel. The temperature dropped into the upper 20's. When woke up the next morning, before touching the car, we saw that there was a 6 inch crack starting at bottom of windshield on drivers side. Crack grew as temp warmed during the day with only driving about 5 miles. The next morning there was a crack on the passenger side which progressively grew through the drive back to ca. I have driven many cars in cold temperature and never had this happen. This is a sign ofa faulty windshield. I have read that there are thousands of subaru owners with same complaint, and that replacement windshields have also cracked.

Windshield cracked, starting at heating element and grew to entire windshield. Mfr admitted fault (i have documentation) but would not cover full cost of repair. Vehicle was stationary when crack appeared and had been stationary for some time due to covid-19 stay at home guidelines.

My windshield wipers stopped working. I was drivingin atlanta, georgia on 5/17/15at 4-7pm and my windshield wipers don't work. I pulled into a parking space to restart my vehicle and the wipers still not work. I ended up waiting inside my outback for over two hours waiting on the rain to stop. This is ridiculous! i brought this car brand new with 11 miles on it and after driving 900 miles the windshield wipers are not working.

Windshield cracked from drivers side bottom corneracross the mid line above the steering wheel to passenger side without warning or impact from an rock or object.crack begun while driving on freeway and within 45 seconds extended across the windshield from drivers side to the mid point of the windshield.crack is in drivers line of sight, and a safety hazard.took it to dealer, who responded, that it is a common occurrence in this model.pulled over and found no impact or rock chip anywhere along crack.windshield defective.

Found a 2 foot crack on my brand new subaru outback.after washing my car yesterday, i stood back to admire how great the car looked and then went inside. When i came back outside 2 hours later, i noticed a 2 foot crack in the windshield with the starting point immediately under the wiper blade on the passenger side.a rock could not have possibly hit the car under the blade. This is a brand new car and i've taken extra precautions with it.i can't believe that this has happened.

While driving my 2015 subaru outback, i noticed the front windshield spontaneously had a crack that started at the lower passenger side and ran diagonally across the windshield about 12", no evidence of being hit by stone, etc.

Windshield cracked while driving through lake tahoe area without any debris hitting windshield. The crack started at lower passenger corner and has grown past mid section of the windshield.this is the 2nd windshield damaged beyond repair on this vehicle.

On july 9, i was driving down the interstate i take to work and heard a small pop, like a pebble hitting the windshield.the windshield instantly cracked in an l shape down around the rearview mirror.by the time i got home from work that night, that crack had extended to about 18 inches long. I have been driving cars a long time, and have had numerous pebble strikes without any of my previous windshields cracking. I feel that this is obviously due to some sort of defect in the windshield, as is evidenced by many others who are having the same issue.i love the car otherwise, but am worried about having to replace the windshield every time i turn around.some people that have posted complaints were on their third windshield this year on their 2015 outbacks. This is not acceptable!i emailed subaru and did get a reply suggesting i take the car to the dealer and let them inspect it, and that they were "not aware" of any problems with the windshields for the 2015 outbacks.information on this page and several others suggests otherwise.we need to speak up so subaru knows what is going on and is forced to address this issue.

2 years, 35000 miles into owning new 2015 outback, my windshield developed an 8 inch long crack originating from the bottom driver's side.this appeared while parked outside my workplace, with no known windshield impacts driving.consequently, i replaced the windshield using safelite, matching the windshield type via vin.only 2 months after replacement, another crack developed originating from the bottom passenger side edge, and quickly spread 3/4 of the way across the bottom.again, no impacts were witnessed to the windshield while driving.i have no confidence in replacing the windshield again, as it likely will crack in the same manner sooner or later.

Spontaneous crack started in the middle of the windshield right behind the rearview mirror.there was no debris that hit the windshield.the crack is growing and we are told that warranty does not handle windshield cracks.we have to pay $250 insurance deductible and there is a 4-6 month delay on getting the new glass because of backlog...!this is now a safety issue because it inhibits our visibility and who knows what may happen if there is a crash of any kind!

This is my subaru outback limited. While my car was parked in front of my home i came out and found a 6" crack in my windshield originating below the wipers. It has since spread an addition 12"+ inches upwards and 4" downward. I believe below the wipers is where the heating element is located and in a quick internet search, including this site, i have found numerous complaints of cracks appearing on parked cars all starting below wipers. Now for the real problem, there is no replacement windshields available. This happened on 6/24/15 and i contacted safelite that day and due the heating element the part has to come from subaru. It is now exactly one month later and there is no replacement in sight.

During a recent trip to colorado, the front windshield on my new 2015 subaru outback developed a dozen small pits in the exterior glass surface from contact with very tiny pebbles.two of the pits have developed large cracks that have grown to lengths exceeding 15 inches.the tiny pebble strikes should not have caused such pits based on my extensive driving experience.i believe there to be a defect in the glass itself, making it unusually brittle.the pebble strikes occurred while driving at highway speeds (i.e. 55-65 mph) on paved roadways.the temperature outside during the pebble strikes, which took place over several days of driving, ranged from 20 to 45 degrees f.the cracks appear to still be growing.

Second windshield to spontaneously crack since buying the car new.

I just bought a brand new 2015 subaru outback on march 18, 2015.i see already that there are numerous complaints already on the safety of the 2015 subaru outback windshields.i was driving down the freeway on may 2, 2015 and a very small pebble flew into the windshield and i couldn't believe thatsmall a pebble would crack the windshield over 6 inches!i am very upset.i parked the car in a restaurant parking lot that day and when i came out, the crack had grown to 12 inches by itself! my relatives were in town and i couldn't drive my new vehicle on a short trip i wanted to take them on. Of course this is a special order item so i am waiting and waiting for it to be replaced.called subaru service department and they claim no knowledge of problems with the windshields (of course).i have no vehicle to drive because i feel it is unsafe to drive and have been inconvenienced to have to drive my other older vehicle.i didn't want to have insurance also pay for a rental/replacement vehicle as well when this is a subaru problem and a national safety problem with this vehicle that needs to be addressed immediately. It is now may 6th and i still have no new windshield and don't expect one anytime soon.it looks like there is a good possibility that the windshield will crack again from all the complaints i am reading on this website.when will someone recall this windshield?after someone gets killed?please recall this windshield!

The windshield developed a mysterious crack from the lower corner driver side, and it propagated across in a week a two. We have been unable to find a reasonably priced after market windshield and the quoted cost from the dealer is way too high. We also understand that the dealer has difficulty getting the new glass in a timely manner.i am not willing to spend so much money to replace the windshield when it appears that another crack may occur on this defective product.

Car developed a 20" crack in the windshield all by itself. The crack starts at the bottom of the passenger side by the wiper blade and runs up and over towards the drivers side. I drove the car one day and the crack was not there. A week later i drove it again and the crack was there when i got into the car to start it up. From what i read online it is due to something with the deicer making the windshield very likely to crack in that area. I have never had a windshield crack by itself and i've owned or taken care of a dozen cars for my family over 40 years. Subaru should do the right thing and issue a recall, as there are a ton of reports of this happening to people.

Windshield cracked from passenger side wiper area up and across windshield while car was parked.had received a letter from subaru indicating there was a potential weakness in windshield - dealer refused to replace windshield .claimed damage was from a rock.

Windsheild cracked for no appearant reason. There are many accounts of this problem online.vehicle was sitting in driveway not moving when crack occurred..in short time crack ran out 1 1/2 feet. Had windsheild replaced on 06/18/19

Driving on a road traveling approx. 35 miles an hour on a cold night. Heard a loud pop around the passenger side upper windshield.a small crack appeared.there was no bump or rock hit as the rest of the area appeared smooth.crack spread into backwards "j" shape over next few days at least 12 inches long. Dealership told me it wasn't covered and there was a rock hit. But the area was smooth and i've been driving for 30 years and have never had this happen.we ate the cost because it needed to be repaired, even though considered it odd that this would happen. However, we happen to own another 2015 outback.yesterday, we went into the garage to start the car and there is a 12 inch crack - the same shape- on the driver's side in the same locations.no signs of a rock hit.weather has been very warm, but this time, the car was parked.something is wrong.2 - 2015 outbacks?2 "j" shaped cracks?it's no coincidence and too many complaints on line from people with similar situations.windshield is faulty and subaru won't step up and include the upper part in its recalls.it needs to.very dissatisfied customer.

We bought the subaru in anchorage and started heading toward our home in fairbanks. Approximately 100 miles into the journey we stopped to rest and eat. While sitting in the car talking, there was a pop sound and a large 9-10" crack appeared behind the mirror and binocular cameras descended into the passenger's view. I inspected the outside window for evidence of impact from a rock or debris, such as chipping, but there was none. I tried to get a replacement window after subaru blew me off, but was unable to due to an apparent large demand for replacement glass for this model. Since then cracks have appeared spontaneously from the bottom of the windshield working there way up. My son has a brand new 2015 subaru forester, which did the exact same thing on the way home from anchorage. Again subaru dealer denied they have seen any problem with the windshield, but read the complaints logged with nhtsa and one can only come to a different conclusion. Perhaps subaru is making their glass too thin to reduce weight or there is some sort of flexing of the window midpoint on the glass but this is a problem.

A crack appeared starting at the bottom of my passenger side windshield and i watched it move across to the drivers side.it was fast moving.i was driving out of my driveway.

4 month old 2015 subaru outback: moonroof exploded, from the inside out, while on interstate; weather was clear and about 60degree day around 2:30pm est; nothing hit the car, sunroof exploded, very loudly, up then the shattered glass went everywhere inside the car and over me, as well as over the top of the car, leaving scratches and dents, requiring body shop work to the outside. The cloth cover was open; the driver side window had just been rolled up; had been on the road for about 10mins before it occurred, after having been parked in uncovered parking lot for several hours; was merging onto the interstate;i can supply pictures if needed.also, this same car has a seal gap issue in the triangular window on the front passenger side window.an initial resealing done weeks after delivery of the car did not stay sealed.subaru has issued a 'kit' now to fix the seal problem of the triangular window, which i am currently on a wait list for.

I purchased my 2015 subaru outback in november 2014 and the first windshield crack occurred beginning of march 2015. The crack happened overnight and it was the day after a major snow storm. The crack initiated from the passenger side and up to the center of windshield. There was no sign of chips/cracks due to foreign objects which seem like a defective part/design to me. The crack propagated really quickly. I contacted dealership and they said its not covered under warranty and refused to look at the crack. The dealership also told me straight up to go through insurance and deal with it myself. I went through insurance and replaced the windshield with a genuine subaru part by the end of march. Just when i though it is over, a crack just appeared on my windshield on may 10, 2015. The crack seem to have initiated from the windshield heating compartment again. During the morning of may 11, 2015, i looked at the crack again and it didn't grow overnight. However, when i checked on it while it was parked at work during noon time, the crack grew about 2 inches. This is unacceptable for a brand new car to have to go through 2 cracked windshields. A good windshield should be able to withstand temperature change and minor impacts from foreign objects and the 2015 subaru outback is definitely not meeting that requirement. In addition, the dealership is not being helpful with the situation and not taking any responsibilities in investigating whether this can be a vehicle defect or not. I am not going to replace my windshield out of my own expense and i demand for an answer/explanation from subaru.

The contact owns a 2015 subaru outback. While driving 75 mph, a pebble struck the contact's windshield and created a twelve inch crack. Upon arriving home, the crack expanded to approximately sixteen inches in the shape of the letter "u". The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 12,000.

First time washing my new 2015 subaru outback with barely 900 miles on it. Parked it in front of the house. Walked from the garage to the vehicle to check for water spots and noted a 5" crack in the windshield where there wasn't one while i washed it! starts where the heating element is under the passenger side wiper. It's rapidly spread up and across my driving line of sight. When the sun is up, the glinting becomes almost blinding.i took it to the dealer where i purchased it to report what to me was an obvious defect. Their head of service looked at it and pronounced it was caused by a rock. He tried to explain where he saw this "impact". I disagreed. There is no impact craze. They told me to contact my insurance company. The insurance examiner took pictures and pronounced it due to "a structural defect". Subsequently, the glass was ordered and i'm supposed to pay for it plus the installation or there'll be a re-stocking fee. I've waited over a month while being told there are shortages, or it's too new, and "due to the longshoreman's strike in long beach..."i rang up subaru of america, who opened a case and are having me go back to the dealer, have them take pictures, send those and the report from the insurance company to them. Seems like i'm doing a lot of work for what to me should be covered as a defective windshield or a structural problem with this model.there are 7 complaints, filed on this web-site from subaru owners, this model, same year, with the identical passenger side crack. There are numerous other records of these incidents recorded at safercar.gov, and subaruoutback.orgi'm frustrated and disappointed beyond words as this is a new car.

My front windshield keeps cracking on the driver side, from the edge towards the center.i have replaced it multiple times with it cracking from the edge. This has happened when the car was in my driveway and also driving on city streets.i think the body of the car bends and puts too much pressure on the glass where it keeps cracking.i've inquired with multiple local subaru dealerships after getting a noticefrom subaru and none of them will fix or honor the letter.due to costs, i've stopped replacing it and am settling with cracks impairing my view.

My wife was driving to work and a stone hit the windshield. She checked it when she got to work and said there was a small chip. By the time she got home the chip had become a crack and was almost a foot long. We have limited our use of the vehicle but the crack continues to grow and is now over two feet long. Safelite has said that the windshield is on national back order. I have had stone chips before and they were easy to repair and did not require replacement. My main concern is that i not have to pay for another windshield if there is a design flaw.

On sunday oct 11th while sitting in the driveway and washing the car a spider crack appeared under the tip of the passenger side windshield wiper that has spread across to just about the rear view mirror.went to the dealer who then took some photos to send to subaru.after many calls back and forth we are still waiting on a determination.first was to be be today 10/23 now being told 10/28. There is no evidence of an external impact and as the car is sitting in the driveway it seems it is being pushed out from the inside.

While parked outside in the driveway during winter, a crack appeared at the very bottom of the windshield on the passenger side. Nothing knowingly hit the windshield, and i see and feel no kind of impact point. The crack extended upward and then spread toward the driver's side over the next few days. I have contacted a subaru dealer asking them what subaru's policy is regarding windshield replacements on 2015 outbacks. I am waiting for their reply.

This is my original 2015 outback. I own 2 2015s.my other one one had a windshield issue when i was driving around 35 on a cold night. There was a large pop and suddenly a crack appeared on the passenger side.over the next days it grew into a backwards "j". Dealer said it was not covered, however it was difficult to even see a mark that would indicate it was hit from a rock, and not defective. We went ahead and fixed it, even though we thought it was odd.the other morning, we went down to the garage and found that our original 2015 had a similar crack on the driver's side, in a similar shape and length.the day before, we drove the car to the beach. Nothing hit it, and the crack is smooth, with nothing found where it originates.something is defective with these windshields.there is no way 2 windshields on 2 new cars should both have to be replaced. We own ours cars a long time, and have never had a windshield experience like this, and if a rock ever hits one, it's a tiny mark that can be handled by insurance. Something is wrong but subaru has written it so any upper windshield issues are notincluded, and this is not right.we are going buying our second one in four months, with eyesight.there is a defect.

A small pebble hit the windshield on 7/17/15 showing a tiny chip and 2-3 mm crack.we had the chip repaired by safelight early morning of 7/18/15 and it looked good.the next day, 7/19/15, there were 2 cracks over 6 inches long and the window will have to be replaced. Would have chalked it up to just bad luck to have the repair fail until i came across reports of similar incidents on the internet and then came across this site.

Was stopped at a red light this morning and my windshield spontaneously developed an 8 inch crack. No rock or impact. This is the third windshield i will have to have replaced on this car in four months.

Car was stationary and cracked from bottom to form 8 in l shapesame as the last time the windshield was replaced 3 years prior

After owning car roughly 1.5 months, front windshield developed a roughly 15 - 20 inch crack starting from top left side starting from the edge, working down and across.crack appears to have started in the edge heating element.possible minor rock scrape, but no "pit" or "star."

2015 outback, owned less than a year. A small pebble hit the bottom right corner of windshield while driving on i-25 south of pueblo, co. This created a dime size starburst pattern at the impact sight. Minutes later a 12 inch+ crack developed.the crack continued to expand to almost the center of the windshield during the the drive to tx.the temperature was about 65 degrees so the windshield wasn't in freezing conditions. The pebble impact was nothing of note and hardly got our attention. In 4 decades of driving and haven taken many rocks to the windshield of different makes of vehicles i've never seen this result.

This morning i drove my vehicle and nothing was out of the ordinary. I came home and the car was parked in my driveway for 1.5 hours and when i went back out i noticed about an 8 inch crack in the windshield with no sign of any other damage. It is a nice, clear day, and the car was not parked under a tree.

Subaru 2015 windshield crack: drivinginto albuquerque nm from santa fe on hwy25, i saw a crack appear in my windshield, from the driver's side. The next day it had grown into an l shape.in 2 more days it had grown to an s shape. I did not see any cars close by or any rock at the time the crack appeared.when i called the dealer, i was told to come in on 4-27-16 for my annual maintenance, but was concerned because the crack kept growing. I went to the albuquerque garcia dealer today 4-14-16, i was told a tiny pinpoint spot on the left side of the windshield indicated a rock had caused the crack to start. But i have driven cars for 40 years and never seen anything this dramatic. I now have read online about dozens of complaints like mine and most victims believe the flexing of the car body may have caused this crack. The fragility of this windshield makes this car extremely dangerous. I believe this car should have a safety recall.

While i was driving i heard a pop, did see or notice anything. Next day i had a crack in my driver side windshield, about 8-10 inches crack. Thought i had glass coverage but its $1000 deductible. Safelite cost is $461.55. I have the 2015 subaru outback with eyesight, that means after safelight repairs the windshield i then need to bring the car to my subaru dealer to have the eyesight recalibrate for about $200. My car only has 8700 miles. Looking at other comments, this seems to be a big problem with 2015 subaru outbacks. If i had full glass coverage i would have cared or wrote about this. Hope subaru fixes this problem. Thanks and hope everyone stays safe. After seeing the note below i was in motion on a 2 lane street. I do drive from ny to florida twice a year and don't know what i would do if this happened on a long trip. Doesn't seem safe if subaru has defective windshields

A small object hit the passenger side lower part of the windshield. At first there was a small star shape mark that i thought could be fixed. However it spread quickly. I went to american auto glass and was told that he had many of these windshield on back order and that they were only made by subaru. I waited for about 6 weeks and still no windshield . I called customer service at subaru and finally i received a windshield about 7 weeks after it cracked. The manager at american auto glass told me that he has never seen so many cracked windshields in a new model car and felt that subaru had an issue.last week about 2 months after i had the glass replaced i had another crack at almost the same place as the first crack. I called subaru and had it inspected by subaru and they said i needed a new windshield and that it was not covered under warranty. I than brought it to safelight auto glass and they were able to repair it.i feel that there is a safety issue with the windshields in the 2015 subaru outback and that subaru needs to come up with a fix. I will also follow up with customer service at subaru

Under normal stress - a crack appeared in the middle of the windshield starting at the base and began to spread upward and outward from there.

In less than six months, two windshields have cracked with normal usage.vehicles has less than 4600 miles.this is either a glass failure issues or a design flaw. Either way, unsafe.

Windshield cracked starting from windshield wiper heater location on passenger side up and over to middle of windshield approximately 2 .5 feet in length. This happened with the so called improved windshield from subaru. The vehicle was stationary , no stone chip/impact damage noted. At the time when i turned on the windshield heat i heard a crack. The weather outside was cold about 40 f.the temp inside the car was warm. This is dangerous since the windshield is an integral part of the structure of the car and helps to contain the air bags during an impact. These windshields appear to be too fragile or thin for safety and should be recalled.

Had a small stone hit the windshield and saw nothing at the time.about half hour later, we saw a crack in the lower part of the windshield, which spread quickly across the driver's side.was told by the glass replacement company that these windshields were on back order and had to wait weeks for repair.then on august 22, 2015 we had another small stone hit the windshield on the driver's side.it was small and normally we would have been able to get this fixed.but we saw it start to spread and then heard a loud pop and saw the thing star out into six different directions quickly.these stones were not very large and i've never had a windshield react like the subaru.i've had larger stones hit our toyota and was able to get a repair prior to a windshield being replaced.i believe there is an issue in the manufacture of these windshields.these are expensive to keep replacing and i am concerned with safety of these windshields.

Large crack in windshield without any impact. Starts at the bottom middle of the car and branches out in both directions.

I was washing the windshield, so i raised the wiper arms like most people do when they want to clean the entire windshield.a slight breeze blew and knocked the passenger-side wiper down onto the glass cracking the windshield on impact.the impact crack then split up and toward the driver's-side about 2 feet in length.i have had numerous cars over my lifetime, and a falling wiper arm has never cracked my windshields.upon further research on the web, i discovered scores of stories of folks going on their third or fourth windshield (on a 2015 model!!).i have to drive around in an unsafe manner because safelite cannot get the original part from the dealer due to them being backlogged.the windshields are backlogged because they keep cracking on everyone.now i'm short $500 on my deductible, and i can just imagine like most others, i will be short $500 again in the near future because of a faulty design.the windshield is not safe on the road for impacts (one guy shut his door and the windshield cracked...crazy!).please, get these windshields off the road and make subaru design another windshield and pay to replace them all!thank you!

While driving on the highway, a small rock hit our windshield in the passenger side deicer area. We have received a notice that subaru knows there is an issue with windshields cracking at the deicer area, but the local dealer states that our crack initiated above the area for which they accept responsibility. The deicer area on our windshield extends above the spot where the rock hit, but subaru is trying to limit responsibility to a lower area. Visibility is a highly important component of safe driving. The deicer area was not applied by two different manufacturing processes when it is a few inches apart. Subaru is trying to limit liability for a design or manufacturing flaw. We believe that should not be allowed.

We sent a similar email to subaru of america june 5.they have been responsive...but we still have a cracked windshield and it remains a driving distraction....we purchased our 2015 outback in january from subaru of las vegas.in april a windshield crack appeared -we didn't see the rock, saw no chip to cause it but the dealer said he could feel one, so sorry, no warranty, so we claimed it on the insurance -replaced a few weeks ago for the $500 deductible.changed to a $100 deductible the first of june and two days later another crack-instant and bigger.saw the rock this time.claimed on the insurance, again, but safelight had to cancel the appointment due to a shortage of subaru windshields -the aftermarket ones are out, and dealer is apparently having to ration out the oems!!!so we get to drive with a glaring, hazardous crack...i checked on the internet and foundpages of new subaru windshield crack problems similar to ours -some seemed to indicate soa had covered replacement under warranty which should have happened the first time as there truly was no chip to start the crack.subaru needs to do something about this -maybe thicker glass? maybe a recall? we've driven subaru's for many years and have not had this type of problem.please advise as to repairs, reimbursements, etc., and what you are doing to fix the problem for the future -we cannot be replacing the windshield every few months!now it is going on three weeks and no windshield, while the crack keeps getting biggerthanks

This will be the second windshiled replaced since i bought my outback in march 2015.first time it cracked, for no apparent reason, 2 weeks after purchase.now on second windshiled, and seal in upper right is broken, and can't take it out of the garage because there's a deluge of rain out there.must wait for factory replacement because it's too new!

Windshield started to split in lower wiper resting area after no apparent impact.vehicle was in motion at moderate speed in a residential area.split continued to increase in size over the following 3 days.correct lengthapproximately 12 inches.

We purchased our 2015 outback jan 2, 2015. We were just getting on the freeway leaving new orleans when we heard a pop.we are not sure if a stone hit it or not, but a starburst smaller than a dime along with about 6 inch crack had occurred on the lower passenger area. The car had been parked in the sun so it was really hot. Now two days later it is about 24 inches long and is zagging across the entire windshield.when we called our insurance company we were told thattheir vendor could not get to us for several weeks. They referred us to a different vendor but the windshieldis not available for 3 weeks.this appears to be a common occurrence so add me to the list of complainants.

Within 9 days of receiving a replacement windshield for my subaru outback, my windshield was damaged again.the dealer noted it on 8/8/15 and the windshield was replaced on 7/31/15.i do not recall any rock hitting the windshield.the top corner of the passenger side windshield had a crack.i did contact subaru of america who agreed to replace the windshield free of charge.

The contact owns a 2015 subaru outback. The contact stated that while driving at 65 mph, the contact heard an abnormal noise coming from the windshield as it began to fracture. The vehicle was taken to a dealer who diagnosed that the windshield needed to be replaced. The vehicle was then taken to an independent mechanic who replaced the windshield. However, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 23,750.

Thanks. [xxx].information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

In june of 2018 our front windshield developed a crack across the top driver side, there is no evidence of any sort of impact to the windshield and the crack spread across the entire windshield over a number of day.subaru rejected our warantee claim because the crack was in the wrong location.

I parked my car in a parking garage one morning, and when i returned to my car later that day, a crack developed from an unknown source across the windshield on the passenger side of the vehicle.the crack begins close to the base of the windshield, curves up and around to the middle of the windshield. The windshield was not hit by anything, nor was the vehicle in any type of accident.the crack essentially developed on its own.

The contact owns a 2015 subaru outback. The contact stated that the screen on the radio created a blinding glare from the sunlight. As a result, the contact stated they were almost involved in a collision with a pedestrian due to the glare. The was taken to ramsey subaru where they diagnosed there was no issue with the vehicle. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 35,000. Updated 08/24/17*ljthe consumer stated the manufacturer was unable to be reached. Updated 9/22/2017

Windshield crack on 2015 outback wagon. There was no crack when the car was parked for the night at 6:00 pm. The next morning, there was a ~12 inch crack, left side of the windshield. There were no overhanging trees at the location where the car was parked.

Subaru outback 2015 windshields have very low quality and crack with minimal contact. Our windshields broke twice in one month after replacing the original one with another from subaru. The two times driven on the highway and two tiny rock hit the windshield and created a 12" long crack across the windshield.the cost for the windshields is very expensive at around $700 to purchase a new windshield and to have it installed.

Car was parked in a parking lot away from trees or any other vegetation.was gone from car for approximately 10 minutes.upon return, there was a 12 inch crack descending from upper right hand corner of windshield.by morning, after having been parked inside a locked garage, and with less than 2 more miles driven, crack had grown another 12 inches (approximately.)

Twice in snowing condition , the windshield iced at the bottom and did not clear even though the defroster had been on. We were not able to complete our journey. Even though we stopped every ten minutes or less to scrape the windshield clear. I've had many cars in many conditions and never saw this lack of visibility.it took 4 hours on route 270 from fredrickto go 20miles out and return. Very scary.

We test drive a 2015 outback subaru at the dealership. It had a crack in it and didn't think to much of it 20k miles. We ended up purchasing this one privately and it has a cracked windshield as well. It only has 11k miles. The crack on the outback that we purchased starts at the top middle of the windshield behind the rearview mirrow and cuts down and to the right about 8 inches. After reading the complaints on this site, it seems that there's a huge defect with the windshield and defroster that needs to be recalled. This is a massive safety issue!

Noticed a crack in the windshield on 8/27/15.it extended from under the right windshield wiper towards the center of the windshield about 18 inches long.i could not think of an object having hit the windshield, then recalled driving down the street earlier at about 30 mph.i had heard a loud pop sound, but thought it was coming from under the chasis, like the sound of a rock flying up from a tire and hitting underneath.in retrospect this was probably when the windshield cracked.online research i did earlier showed hundreds of complaints about the windshields on the 2015 outbacks cracking easily, many of which did not involve objects hitting the car.i found several sites of similar complaints, with the links of 1 below.i brought the car into the dealer the next day and explained that the windshield had spontaneously cracked.they initially told me that my crack appeared to have been caused by an object and not covered under warranty.i asked them to explain how an object could possibly have hit the glass and not damaged the wiper, which was fully intact.they said: "the wiper blade must have been moving when a rock struck windshield".i said no, the wiper blades have not been used in several days since it had not been raining.also, an insurance appraiser looked at the damaged glass and said this was not caused by an object hitting it from the outside, since the crack he said was an "inside-out" crack based on the feel of the crack.a warranty claim was submitted by the dealer to subaru of america.within 2-3 days the decision was made by soa to cover the glass under warranty.fortunately the dealer had a new windshield in stock, however, there are many reports of the windshield having been back ordered for weeks at a time, which is a safety issue. Purchased car new from dealer. Car had been sitting in driveway for 4-5 days. I went outside and noticed a long horizontal crack in the windshield running from half way up drivers side to the middle of the glass. I did not see or hear anything hit the windshield at any time while i had been driving, and i can see no chips, pits or scratches in the windshield. There are numerous reports of these "spontaneous" windshield cracks from new outback owners on the subaru owners website, so i know this is not some random unlucky event.some owners have reported 2-3 windshield replacements cracking. Subaru dealers refuse to take blame. This is a safety issue that needs to be addressed by subaru!!

Drove through a construction zone on a military base (30 mph) and parked at the bank.no noise indication of a rock hitting the windshield.came out of the bank and there was a 6-8 inch crack starting under the passenger side wipers, that extended from the edge up into the passengers view.drove the car another approximately 10 minutes to get home, crack became 12-16 inches.parked the car in the driveway and marked it with a window marker.the next day the crack was 3 inches longer....from sitting in the driveway?? either way, here it is july and still waiting on a new windshield.crack extends halfway up and into the middle of the windshield...and the car has not been driven.it has been parked since the 19th of june but the crack is still getting bigger.

I was driving down a city street going 40 mph when i heard a pop coming from the windshield. When i looked over, there was a crack about midway up the windshield. It ran from the far right toward the middle about 10 inches and then downward. It was curving downward. There was one car in front about 25 yards away going about the same speed as i was. I could not believe that the car in front of me could have thrown a rock that far and hard enough to break my windshield. I have been hit many times before on the highway and my window had never broken. Only small nicks that i can see. I got to the theater and got out to look at the window. The crack started from the edge of the window. I could not see where anything had hit the window. It was a clean break.i had to take my outback to the dealer because i'm having problems with the window express switch, and they looked at my windshield. They are going to replace it because i had purchased extended coverage and it was covered.

Subaru outback is two months old and developed a crack in the windshield, while the vehicle was parked.crack started at the bottom/center of the windshield and was roughly eight inches straight up.subaru accepts zero responsibility, so i have to pay for a new windshield.i have been waiting two weeks with no windshields available.crack has grown to roughly thirty inches and a zig zag pattern now.

2015 subaru outback with eyesight technology. Had vehicle less than 2 months, sitting in driveway, next am noted large crack in windshield beginning in passenger lower corner and traveling diagonally up towards center of windshield. No trauma noted to windshield while driving (no rocks, etc). Seemed to have broken spontaneously. Made insurance claim 4/12/15. Unable to get new windshield as such a large backorder of these windshields for same reason and in same location. Still waiting with no end in sight. On-line threads indicate this is an ongoing issue that has yet to generate a recall.

I was driving my 2015 subaru outback on the highway, northbound interstate 280, in woodside, california, on may 27, 2016.suddenly i saw a small crack on my windshield that grew to about 6 inches in a few seconds, starting from the wipers, at the bottom and a bit towards the driver side and going up then curving towards the right, in an l shape. By the next morning the horizontal part of the crack had expanded at least 12 inches more. I did not hear the noise of impact of a stone or any other object.

Car was sitting in driveway.something hit base of windshield and starred it at spot hit.the star spread quickly as a crack running up the windshield.this appears to be a safety issue as other 2015 outback owners are reporting multiple cracks in windshields as well.

Our 2015 suburu outback was purchased in april 2015. In july, the windshield cracked (right up the middle and then, branched out to both sides) right before our eyes in the parking lot of the zoo. No impact of any debris was heard or evident. We had the windshield replaced after suburu determined a point of impact from debris. We did not agree, but we needed a new windshield, so we paid for it. On october 8, after getting into car at work parking lot, another crack was discovered and matched the july's crack exactly. Again, no impact of debris and the start of the crack starts at the very bottom of the windshield. I visited suburu this morning for routing maint and they informed me of no recall and didn't do anything about it. I am replacing the windshield, again, in a couple of days. I suspect there is something wrong with the manufacturing or design of the outback.

Windshield hit by pebble on freeway, small chip noted on parking vehicle for the night in garage. Next morning approximate 9"vertical crack on windshield while driving to work, by the time i had driven vehicle 12 miles crack grew to approximately 27 inches horizontally across windshield. After two weeks of driving there are now competing dual cracks each measuring in excess of 30 inches horizontally across the windshield. With over 45 years of safe driving under my belt i have never seen a windshield perform in this manner. This must be a safety issue, i have a difficult time believing this is not a issue with either the structural integrity of the vehicle and or the windshield. What is the nhtsa doing to investigate this issue and insure or safety?i have the old windshield if this will help to determine the issue.

A crack appeared at the base of the passenger side windshield. Grew to about a foot and a half. It seems theres been a lawsuit filed against subaru in regards to windshield, but no recall has been made. Very sad to hear that about subaru. Because i've been very happy with my subaru until now

Windshield cracked from base of windshield runs through heating element and wiper area. Does not appear to be caused by pebble impact or possibly extremely minor one and spread immediately

Windshield spontaneously cracked while driving on the highway.

On 2/11/2016, i was driving my 2015 outback on highway 50 near folsom, ca. There was no vehicle in front of my vehicle with in 300 feet. All of a sudden, i noticed there was a 5 to 6 inch long crack on the windshield located the driver side lower corner. Although later on we found there was a chip on the windshield, no body on the car heard anything hit the windshield, nor saw anything hit the windshield. Within a few days, that crack became a two feet long crack from the driver side lower corner all the way to the center of the windshield. And it keep reflecting strong lights from different directions which made it more difficult to see things in front of my vehicle.this was the second windshield i have within one year's ownership of this car. The first one was cracked when i parked my car in the parking lot of a costco warehouse.looking at the complains filed against the 2015 and 2016 outback on nhtsa, almost 50% complains are about windshield cracking issue. This ratio is the way higher than similar vehicles and previous model years. Although subaru extended wind shield warranty under certain circumstances, the problem is not solved. That's why 2016 outback owners are running into same situation. Please step in and urge subaru to deliver a real solution.

Driving down the street ,heard a loud pop and the windsheld cracked.l shaped crack about 6 in in each direction.about the same way that happened to the other 122 people that filed complaints for outback windshields cracking.

Right rear wheel bearing failure at 45,000 miles. Loud grinding, then thumping noises when auto in motion

Have had 2 wheel bearing fail and need replacement.the first at 45000 miles and the second at 65000 miles.

At 36,573 miles 5/26/15 had to replace left rear wheel bearing, at 79,176 miles 12/16/15 had to replace right rear wheel bearing, at 94,957 miles 4/1/16 had to replace left rear wheel bearing.car becomes unsafe to drive when wheel bearing is failing.

I was required to replace the third wheel bearing under warrantee (right rear wheel) on my car at 61359 miles on 10october2017.the first bearing (left rear wheel) was replaced on 15january2016 and the second bearing (left front wheel) was replaced on 29 july after 35270 elapsed miles.despite complaining to subaru ntn'l hqtrs requesting that all remaining bearings be replaced after the second bearing failed it was apparently decided that the remaining bearing be replaced only after failing rather than acting proactively.my understanding is that wheel bearings should more or less last the life of the car and not experience the high failure rate that my car has shown.a friend of my also owns a 2015 outback and has experienced similar problems with his car having to replace both rear wheel bearings.there should be a manufacturer's product recall issued to all subaru outback owners to address this product failure after considering the high rate of failure for these bearings experienced by my friend and me.no accident or injuries occurred during these instances noted for both vehicles.

Both rear wheel bearings required replacing at 83,967 miles. The wheel noise began prior to the current mileage but just now took the car to dealer. The wheel noise got louderas the speed increased.
