Takata recallreceived notice of this recall on march 16. Contacted selling dealer (lou fusz subaru, st. Peters, mo) on march 18 and the soonest dealer would schedule the recall repair is on june 12. A wait of three months is not a reasonable amount of time to perform this recall repair.
I was in an accident where the other driver failed to yield to oncoming traffic at an intersection and slammed into my drivers side door. My airbags failed to deploy during the accident.
When my wife sits in the passenger seat the majority of the time the passenger side air bag will not be turned on. My wife is roughly 5'2" and 120 lbs. Dealer claims there is nothing wrong but that the sensors can be overly sensitive with smaller people. This is a safety issue as the bag will not deploy in an accident if it is off.

Takata recall- we had a car accident 4-4-2016.we were turning into a parking lot and another car did not stop at the stop light and hit our car on the left side. Police were called and a report was filed.our air bags did not open up.
I have a legal notice for airbags.the brakes didn't work properly recently in an emergency situation.
Takata recalldealerships are not able to offer an appointment with 6 weeks of this recall.there are long waits for service appointments and thus subaru is remedying this problem in a reasonable amount of time. I called and the soonest they can service my vehicle is 6 weeks (with reports that other dealerships are much longer).this is unacceptably long when the recall advises that no one can sit in the passenger seat (not feasible for me) and when there are frequent reports of death from this recall
Takata recall.recall notice received 3/15/2019.on 3/18/2019 told first appointment available to perform recall repair not until week of 6/8/2019.3 months and cannot use front passenger seat!called 3 other regional dealships and ciukd not get a return phone call.

Takata recall - received letter for recall on march 15, 2019.called same day to local dealer - wilde subaru in waukesha, wi.was told that the earliest appointment that they have to remedy this recall is july 25, 2019.i do not feel that this is timely and would like to know what can be done to remedy sooner.
2013 subaru outback. Consumer writes in regards to airbag safety recall. *ld
Takata recall tka-18:i received a letter from subaru notifying me of the recall advising "until this repair is performed, do not allow passengers to ride in the front passenger seat" and to immediately contact the dealer to replace the front passenger airbag.the dealer advised they did not have parts and it might be "months" before parts were available. As this a major safety issue, the time to repair of "months" is unacceptable.
We recently had our vehicle service for the takata air bag recall. When the vehicle was returned to us, we found a plastic clip/fastener on one of the floor mats, see attached photos. We are left wondering where this component belongs, its function, whether or not there is a safety concern, and how we should proceed.
Takata recall - carter subaru, ballard, seattle, wa (98117) - called the day i received recall notice from subaru (3/16/19) and the first appointment they could offer me was july 7, 2019.they told me there was no way to get me in sooner as they were already processing "20 recall appointments a day."until then i cannot use the passenger seat which is not feasible given that i have a disabled father who is not comfortable in the rear seats.a 4 month wait to repair a life threatening defect that essential makes my car unfit for its intended use seems incredibly negligent.
Takata recall. The contact owns a 2013 subaru outback. The contact received a recall notification for nhtsa campaign number: 19v009000 (air bags) and stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time to repair the vehicle. Burlington subaru (351 shelburne rd, burlington, vt 05401) confirmed that the part would not be available at least until june of 2019 to perform the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.
We got a recall notice on friday, march 15, 2018 concerning the passenger side airbag that said no one should ride in that seat until fixed.we immediately callled fitgerald subaru in rockville and were told they didn't have the proper parts and we could not schedule a time until may!this is absurd to issue a safety recall and not be able to fix it.recall notice txb18; nhtsa id: 19v008
Takata recallsubaru is providing a loaner while the repair takes place.when i arrived at bertera subaru, in west springfield, ma. For the scheduled repair they told me that i had to put a credit card "on file" so that they could give me the loaner.i am placed in a situation of losing a day's pay or kkeping my passengers in mortal danger.. Can they discriminate against the poor in administering a federally mandated recall?can you do something about this?
My friends' son and wife had a crash on i 55 north nearmeadowbrook road on january 28, 2018. The car hit a highway barrier and spun around and resulted in an extreme fire after impact and the side airbag, nor the side curtain airbag did not deploy on drivers' side. The insurance company did not get consent from my friend to take it from the towed destination to another destination. She has yet to receive information regarding her claim status which she was informed of only when she initiated the call. Insurance adjuster inquired who and why someone else wanted to look at carwhen telling adjuster she would be having a third party to view her wrecked car. As of to date february 6, 2018, she has not received any call from insurance company? the airbags (side seat airbag and side curtain airbag and the extreme intensity of the fire are of major concern) especially not deploying on her sons' side of the car. Both son anddaughter-in-law were transported tothe university of mississippi medical center emergency room by way of ambulance but were discharge that next morning, but continue to have ptsd like symptoms and also injuries that linger on. See pictures attached.
The passenger occupant detection system (ods) malfunctioned or shorted out for no apparent reason.as a result, the passenger airbag will not enable even when occupied by an adult passenger.the passenger airbag is constantly in off mode.in addition the ods apparently controls the seatbelt warning feature.regardless of whether or not an adult passenger is occupying the seat the ods is constantly detecting a passenger and the passenger seatbelt warning light and chime continuously are on.when the passenger seatbelt is buckled the warning light and chime remain continuously on.the vehicle has 40,000 miles and this system is not covered under the manufactures extended warranty or the extended service contract sold by subaru through cna.the dealership is recommending a new ods be installed and calibrated at a cost of $1,200 plus applicable tax and fees.
"takata recall" called dealer-(gustman subaru, appleton, wi) tried to make early appointment to replace passenger side air bag. Dealer is swamped and my scheduled appointment is for september 25, 2019, which is a long way off from today march 18, 2019. Want to make sure someone knows about the delay if something happens to me or my family. Consider this situation unacceptable!!!!!
In motion driving straight down county route 80 on a good weather day slowed down going to turn into a shop and takata airbag deployed.was loud bang and horn would not stop going off.pulled off road in front of a art gallery, called aaa they towed car to a garage called "don's auto barn" in new woodstock, ny.drivers hand hurt but not to the point of seeing md. He is a md so he cared for it as necessary. Subaru won't cover as warranty is up. Insurance won't cover as it was not a accident. This was very dangerous. We are now without a car as it is not repaired and not covered by insurance or subaru.it's like driving around with a random gun going off with this just deploying.when don's auto scanned car there were 2 codes that showed up.our car been to dealer in october and there were no recalls, not even from takata!!
Subaru has failed to comply with the takata airbag recall. I began by calling the phone number supplied on the recall letter, but the operator there provided no information about accomplishing this recall. I next tried the subaru website, under recalls. Although the site purported to provide a mechanism toeffect the recall, in fact it did not function such that i could schedule such a repair.third, i tried emailing subaru.as of this writing i have had no response.finally, i tried calling the subaru 800 number. They were unable (or unwilling) to provide information to effect the repair.
"takata recall"i called a local subaru dealer, ladin subaru in thousand oaks, ca, multiple times regarding this recall. I left messages each time, and, each holding wait time was longer than 20 minutes to speak with an agent to set up an appointment for a recall service. They are accepting other appointments without any trouble, yet not the recall cases. If it is a safety-related recall, like this one, then it should be handled more professionally. Correction must be made.
The contact owns a 2013 subaru outback. While driving at a low speed, the contact attempted to depress the brake pedal but his foot became wedged in between the accelerator and brake pedals. As a result, the contact crashed into the front of another vehicle and the air bags failed to deploy. The contact did not sustain any injuries. A police report was filed. The vehicle was not diagnosed, but was taken to an auto body repair center for repairs. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 30,000.

The contact owns a 2013 subaru outback. The contact stated the air bag light illuminated. The contact was concerned that the air bag was defective and may not deploy during a crash. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer for a diagnostic test and they stated the front passenger seat needed to be replaced. The manufacturer stated in order to replace the passenger seat the contact had to remove the aftermarket auto starter; however, the contact refused to remove it. The auto starter manufacturer stated the auto starter had nothing to do with the defective air bag but the manufacturer stated that it does. The failure mileage was 15,500.
I was traveling west bound in the furthest right hand lane at approximately 45-mph on los angeles ave. On 10/31/13 in moorpark, ca at approximately 11:30 a.m. On thursday morning. A full-size ford f150 pickup truck failed to yield while making a left turn into the adjacent shopping center. He was turning left out of a median divider in the center of a four-lane highway. There is no marked signs or lights to make a left turn there, but you must yield to oncoming traffic on la ave. From the broken yellow lined center divider. I hit the side of the truck causing the truck to spin around with the force of the impact. My air bags failed to deploy even though the impact of the crash was significant, the whole front end of my car was severely damaged, and the crash was essentially head-on. I suffered a acute cervical strain, and i went to the hospital the day after with pain. I am in the process of getting further testing to see the severity of my injuries. My two-year old daughter was in her britax car seat in the passenger side back seat, and luckily she was unharmed in the incident. I am very shocked that the air bags did not deploy, and i feel like this is a major safety concern that should be investigated.
My 2013 subaru outback has three open recalls, numbered 19v009000 (airbag), 18v626000 (parking brake), and 16v694000 (windshield wiper motor).subaru of america has told me, within the past week, that the car is unsafe to drive because of the airbag.i live 138 miles from the nearest subaru dealer.i have given subaru two quotes, requested by them, including contact information at two companies, for transporting the car to the nearest dealer, rimrock subaru in billings, mt. Subaru of america refuses to contact or make arrangements with the two companies and refuses to schedule the repairs unless i pay in advance, approximately $1,700.00, for round trip transportation and car rental, to get the car to the dealer and back.subaru told me, in an email today, february 12, 2020, from [xxx] of subaru customer service, "my ability to assist is on a reimbursement basis. There is no workaround for this."his email is [email protected] is an extreme hardship for me as i am retired with limited discretionary funds.i hope you can convince subaru to fulfill its legal responsibility to complete these recalls without my financial involvement.thank you.[xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
Passenger side airbag indicator light and alarm go off whether passenger is in the seat or not. Intermittently, when i start the car, the indicator light flashes and then remains lit. If the car is driven in this state, the alarm sounds at speeds over 25/30 mph. Subaru doesn't know how to trouble shoot.
Takata inflators.i keep getting notices from tk holdings telling me our subaru might be involved in a recall.just tell me if it is or isn't.i'm tired of fighting websites designed by morons where i never get an answer and phone numbers only lead you to recorded messages that tell you to to check a website.so far nothing has happened because we have not driven into another object.
Takata recalli received notice of the recall on 3/15 and called for an appointment today (3/18).i was told the first appointment is 6/11-3 months out.how am i to drive a vehicle with my wife and kids if we cannot use the passenger seat for 3 months-absurd.the notice says how dangerous it could be if the passenger side airbag inflates-what does subaru expect its owners to do for 3 months while we wait?my dealer is (xxxx) in madison wi.(xxxxx)parts of this document have been redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
Sudden unwanted forceful acceleration (suspect auto cruise control got engaged via eyesight malfunction), collision avoidance failed to engage. Back home safely from a local grocery, pulled the car slight on the driveway, stopped with foot on the brake to open the garage, about to hit the home link, must remain stopped while garage door opens because driveway slopes downward, heard engine roar with foot still on the brake, car started throttle forcefully, got bewildered, pressed hard on the brake; it did not respond, the car hit hard on the garage and brick wall, causing extensive damages. Air bags deployed, driver was senseless, both driver and passenger hurt, car is declared total. It was very hot at about 4:15 pm, air condition had been running at full force all the while during the short 15 minute drive.the driveway has a 10 ft slab with upward slope, the car stopped with front wheels at the end of the first slab. The remaining driveway is about 30 ft on a downward slope. I keep the car totally standstill while the garage is opening. The car was at a slight angle facing slightly toward the driver side corner of the garage. The car is still on my driveway: event data recorder and eyesight data recorder should have valuable diagnostic information. The impact was very forceful: a complete brick wall got displaced by almost 1 inch at one side and the displacement on the other side of the wall caused a two story load bearing brick column to crack on both sides. Garage structure and roof got damaged. This car is maintained in good condition and never have been in accident before. Called police, but they did not come. Let me know asap if you want diagnostic data: i am 100% sure that this is a manufacturing defect. I saw collision avoidance work in many other situation, but this time, it did not work. This is a serious public safety issue happening a lot with subaru.
Red airbag light . Dealer diagnosis code b1650. Response is to replace the bottom part of passenger seat. 1840.00 repair. This happened about a year after they replaced the airbag related to takata recall. Soa has offered 1000.00 'in good will gesture ' . Saw a recall in 2015 for imprezawagons throwing off b1650 code. Was told by soa not to drive my outback as this is a safety issue. I totally agree, but also think that a 6 year old outback should not be having this kind of safety issue . I am unable to repair due to the costly repair and in my opinion this is subaru's responsibility to fix! there is no possible way i could have caused this malfunction.
Takata recall.i received the recall notice.it states in bold lettering to not let passengers sit in the front seat until this is fixed or risk death or serious injury.i called the dealership and was told the repair could not be fixed until september as subaru is not supplying the parts until then.does subaru really expect me to not have passengers in my vehicle until september?how can they issue this warning and then not fix it for 6 months? is this a joke? is there anything the nhtsa can do? please let me know, as i apparently now have a useless vehicle which i depend on for transportation on a daily basis. If there is some other agency i should contact please let me know.
Backup camera gets blocked completely by a large "connected to mobile phone" message box when in reverse after recently starting car.can happen when you're half way in the road and should be fixed.
I took my car in for airbag recall, the brake light indicator flashes on/off on dash, intermittent. Service dept could not replicate at first, discovered electronic parking brake component faulty. Parking brake could engage while car is in drive or fail on hill. Charging me 1100 for repair, says its not under warranty or recall. This is same defect/recall on 2015 model outback. Dealer says no recall for 2013 model outbcak. I dispute this.
While driving the car on a city street the brake light, cruise control, check engine light started flashing in the dashboard. Cruise control would not work during this. Car seems to run fine but warning lights continue to flash
The navigation system overrides the safety backup camera with messages when the car is in reverse.this is very dangerous since the navigation system can display a message on the screen and completely obscure the backup camera display while backing up.this happens every time i start my car and begin to backup. The backup camera comes on when i put the car in reverse but as i'm backing up, the navigation system displays messages from my bluetooth phone connection and i can't see what is behind me via the backup camera.nothing should override the backup camera when the car is in reverse.
Have replaced the low beam h7 bulb 5 times this year and has even blow less than 1 hour after fixed by a subaru dealership. Tail lights have been replaced 3 times in 8 month. High beam lights 3 times in the past 12 months. Fixtures twice. Charred from extreme amp spikes in wires. Now to top it all off entire wiring harness for passenger side is out.
Backup camera shows blue screen and backup guide lines but no camera image when transmission is placed in reverse. Occurs intermittently. Can occur either when vehicle is stationary (e.g., immediately on putting car in reverse) or in the middle of backing up. Sometimes camera image will come back on momentarily or not at all. This particular vehicle has the camera display integrated with the rear view mirror. However, the cause of the fault is unknown to me, and i have not been able to identify a pattern of occurrence. Camera image is clear and crisp when it does appear so the problem is presumably either software related or perhaps a wiring fault. Started occurring several years ago.
Prior to this incident, i had noticed several occasions where the engine would suddenly rev for no reason while i was driving at a slow speed or braking.this incident happened on dec 2, 2014 at approx. 7:40am eastern time.as i was approaching the security check-in gate at my job, traveling about 10 mph, i depressed the brake to slow down and wait for the gate to open.as i was slowing down, the engine suddenly rev'd to maximum and the car accelerated and lurched forward.i was not able to stop or control the car and it crashed through the security barrier gate.no one was injured and there was no damage done to the car, but the metal arm of the gate was severely bent.i took the vehicle to my subaru dealer several days later to be inspected and report the incident.the dealer said there was a problem with the engine control module (ecm) and updated the software.since then, the car has run smoothly with no further acceleration problems.the ecm update also seemed to solve a problem i had experienced where the car had difficulty starting up.
On a handful of occasions while driving, suddenly the car detects an object in front of the car that it believes i will hit. The beeping and object collision detection message appears on my dash. On all these occasions, there has never been on object.one time it automatically engaged my brakes. This happened while i was on a highway. Luckily, no car was riding closely behind me so i was able to control the vehicle before causing an accident. I donā€™t remember exactly when this started happening but i think it was 2 years ago. There is an option to turn off the detection sensor, but this must be done every time the car is turned on, and iā€™m afraid i will forget. Moreover, the safety feature being turned off means i donā€™t have that feature to detect real objects. My biggest concern is that one day iā€™ll be driving at a higher speed, such as on a highway, and the car will detect an object, engage the brakes and cause me to be in an accident. I can make my car available for inspection upon request. I have not spoken to a local subaru dealer or independent service center about this yet. My vehicle has not been inspection by the manufacturer, police, or insurance reps yet.no warning lamps, messages or other similar symptoms have occurred. However, this morning my car did auto-start on its own twice and this is the first time iā€™ve noticed this.
Upon noticing a blown 3rd tail light(one of the tail lights on the rear hatch/door of the wagon,) i disassembled and found that the sockets on both sides(left and right 3rd tail-light sockets) were scorched around where the bulbs fit into them.the discoloration was brown/black and was present not only on the socket with the blown bulb but also the other, working side.dealer replaced blown bulb and made no comment on scorched bulb sockets.it almost appears as if they were so heated they were ready to melt or burn the plastic.car has been in service for 27 months and has 27k mostly city driving on it.happy to provide photos of the affected sockets to anyone investigating or concerned.
With the eyesight system, outback may start braking when you are coming up on another car or trying to pass it, even though you are moving away from the vehicle to pass it and are not endanger of an accident. Very annoying at times and forces you to disable it but might be worthwhile if it didn't go off just from coming near vehicles. I suppose they don't want it to go off too late. The seat/headrest is the bigger problem.
The contact owns a 2013 subaru outback. While driving various speeds, the brake, windshield wiper fluid, cruise control, and check engine warning indicators illuminated. The contact stated that the emergency brake engaged independently and the vehicle failed to drive. The contact stated that the failure also occurred on other occasions. The vehicle was taken to subaru of orange park (located at 7023 blanding blvd, jacksonville, fl 32244, (855) 851-7200) where it was diagnosed and an unknown failure code was located. The vehicle was repaired, but the contact did not know the specifics. The contact believed there was an unknown sensor failure. The contact stated that the failure recurred. The contact planned to tow the vehicle to subaru of orange park. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 30,000.
Took it home from dealer and the electronic parking brake would not turn on.the brake light was also blinking.a couple days later, on the way to dealer, i stopped at a gas station and turned on the electric parking brake.it worked this time, but when i got in the car to drive, the electric parking brake wouldn't turn off.i was stuck.there was no way to move it.i was blocking the gas pump for about an hour waiting for a two truck.tow truck driver had difficulty loading vehicle and taking off vehicle because the parking brake was on and it was an awd meaning none of the wheels can move.
Apply brakes while in motion and car doorlocks open. Passenger complained when getting out of car that they got a shock.
2013 outback limited 3.6r bought new and has 40k miles. On 3 occasions over the past 5 months, the vehicle can't catch 2nd gear and revs high and then a heavy jolt physically felt and a loud clunk. Have taken it to subaru service 3 times and they cannot reproduce the problem. Even after flushing transmission fluid and relearning the transmission, and vehicle did it the same day driving home after picking the vehicle up from relearning the transmission. This is aggravating, stressful, and dangerous. Subaru needs to own up and address a known issue, and do a recall.
Made a turn and was halfway down the block going approximately 15 mph when the engine suddenly shut off. The instrument gauge lit up with all sorts of annunciators. I was able to pull over to a safe location and park. The following annunciators were flashing; at oil temp, cruise control indicator, and the brake light. The following annunciators were lit solid; check engine warning light /malfunction indicator light and the vehicle dynamics control warning light. Turned off vehicle. Waited. Turned engine on and the annunciators were still present and the instrument gauge remained unchanged.
While driving near my home on june 5, 2021, the vehicle simply shut off and simultaneously all the warning lights flashed.i was unable to restart the vehicle after two or three tries.i called a tow service. About an hour later, before the tow truck arrived, i turned the key again, and the car restarted.this occurred in the middle of the roadway and i was lucky no vehicle was being behind me, as a collision could have happened.a local auto repair shop looked at the computer code and found one for a cracked gas cap. The mechanic replaced the gas cap, but stated that it could not have caused the car to cease running.i took the car to a subaru dealer on june 14, 2021, but the service consultant stated that looking for the problem would be like "going down a rabbit hole" and told me to continue to drive the car until another incident happened.
The contact owns a 2013 subaru outback. While the vehicle was in operation, the check engine, abs, and oil warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed as a locked up duty solenoid circuit failure. The part needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 108,610.
While driving my subaru outback 2013 2.5i premium model, brake light, cruise control, check engine light started flashing in the dashboard. Took it to a dealer and i was told that it was body valve failure inside transmission. It was fixed (subaru paid $1,500 and i contributed $300 for the repair) by a subaru dealer. Yet, ten days later the same three lights went on. The dealer said it was different problems, catalytic converter and o2 sensors, quoted $1,800. Left the dealer without fixing the problems. It seems that my car was not the only one with this type of electrical problem. I saw the exactly same complaints posted by other user in virginia (refer to nhtsa id number: 11204834).
Elderly woman nearly ran us off the road. Horn wouldn't work. Barely avoided crash. Reliable subaru in springfield, mo charged us $117 for diagnostic and didn't fix: no part on hand. If i had okayed, it would have cost another $548 to repair, total of $665 to fix what i regard as a safety issue. Art fletcher subaru in joplin, mo repaired for $237. My opinion: this is a safety issue that subaru should pay for. Horn problems with subaru are commonplace.

Loud noise when making a sharp turn down hill to the right.also traction control/cvt fails on wet surface or snow.
Excessive oil consumption.the car goes through a quart of oil about every 700-800 miles despite regular oil changes and maintaince
Using excessive oil. Thi si sthe secon time i had to put oil in approximately 5700 milees after an oil change. Its not leakeing anywhere.
After 28,000 miles and noticed at drive through locations the sickly sweet smell of antifreeze was noticed. I took car to dealer who pressure tested and inspected coolant system. Nothing unusual was noticed and no leaks were discovered. Drove car later in the day and smell returned, will drive more and if smell is noticed again will return to dealer. Could arise from oil changes and if leveling the fluid level the spill burnoff could be where the smell comes from... When starting car the engine revs at a high speed but that is normal from this particular vehicle so after starting i pause a bit before shifting and driving.other than the antifreeze smell the car is a pleasure to drive.
116,700 miles and need to replace valve body.concern raised at 83,000 miles but was advised to flush transmission.automatic transmission temperature warning light comes on every summer, and concern raised but was only advised to pull over and let it cool.also having problem with low engine oil warning and need to add 1 - 2 quarts between 6000 mile oil change.this is a known issue and the short block may need to be replaced to repair this
After stopping at a stop sign, i attempted to drive off, but the car did not accelerate on application of the throttle pedal. The engine remained at idle, and the car rolled slowly into the intersection. Nothing i did corrected the problem until i placed the transmission in park, turned off the engine, then re-started the car. The car then performed normally until i reached the next stop sign, where the problem repeated. In all, the problem occurred seven (7) times on this day, apparently at random. That is, at some stops the car performed normally, and at other stops, the car failed to accelerate when the throttle pedal was depressed. The service department at my subaru dealer was unable to replicate the problem and therefore performed no repairs. Two weeks later, the problem occurred again, three (3) times in two days. This is an extremely dangerous problem, because it can leave the car in a busy intersection without the ability to move until the driver turns off the car and then re-starts it. This problem has been noted by other subaru outback owners in online forums, and at least one other vehicle safety complaint has been filed regarding this problem.
Oil was leaking from the engine area. Subaru of america authorized subaru of sonora, ca to replace the cylinder head gaskets and related items/parts. The work was started on 8/2/17 and completed on 8/29/17 with 95,007 miles on the car. This repair work was completed under an extended warranty. I have a 3 page receipt from subaru of sonora for this work.
I have a 2013 subaru outback and it stutters driving between 20-40 mph. It seems to loose power when driving on city streets. Doesn't happen every time
Use more than a quart of oil a week and just change brakes and they shimmy and jolt
My 2013 subaru outback premium 2.5 has a caution light in the instrument panel that illuminates as areminder for the operator to check the engine oil. The owners manual states the light indicates low engine oil levels and recommends adding oil to prevent engine damage. I add a minimum 1 quart of oil, on a recurring cycle, to return the oil level to the full mark on the oil dipstick. My subaru outback requires adding approx. 1 quart of oil every 1800 miles between oil changes.
The car looses power to the point where it occasionally stalls when i decelerate and come to a stop or just before the stop. I replaced the battery as it was on its way out anyway and the problem persists. I don't think it has anything to do with the alternator and i haven't brought the car to a dealer or mechanic yet. But want to raise the flag on the issue i'm having because i've seen lots of forums where other folks are experiencing a similar issue.
Subaru outback self-accelerated (unintended acceleration) on march 22, 2018 as i was attempted to park the car in a parking lot. Due to the self-acceleration the car hopped over the curb in the parking lot and ran over a bush. My foot was no where near the accelerator and even when applying the brake, i had to press extremely hard on the brake to stop the vehicle. While it self-accelerated the engine made a loud revving sound. On march 23, 2018 the car self-accelerated again with my husband driving on the open road. After this incident we had the car towed to our car dealership. Subaru has had the car since march 23 and denies any problem with the accelerator or car.
Vehicle uses oil excessive amounts of oil and this year of outback has had recalls but said vin # has not had a recall for excessive oil consumption.
The contact owns a 2013 subaru outback. The contact stated that while at a red light, the engine revved up. The contact turned off the vehicle. The vehicle was restarted however, the failure recurred. The contact restarted the vehicle and drove to the residence. The contact stated that the vehicle experienced unintended acceleration. There was no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and later was towed to schumacher subaru located at (3021 okeechobee blvd, west palm beach, fl 33409) and was diagnosed however, the mechanic was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 87,145.
The motor blew on my 2013 subaru outback with only 78k miles on it.there were no warnings there was anything wrong just stopped working and shut down.the 2013 subaru outback has known issues and had multiple recalls.this shouldn't happen on a vehicle that was fully maintained and had less then 100k miles on it.
I brought the car in for a routine repair. When i got it back it began to malfunction. It would not shift correctly. The automatic transmission was slipping. The car did not accelerate correctly and chugged. The acceleration abruptly stopped at a high speed on the freeway nearly causing a severe accident and replicated this at a low speed, and from a stop. I returned the car 3 times and the issues remain consistent. To date subaru of america has not addressed my concerns. The car is unsafe for me and my family. Downtown oakland subaru has yet to identify what is the cause of the malfunction. Each service department person has test driven the car and experienced the same issues.

This car guzzles oil, like a quart every thousand miles making it a [xxx] car for road trips. I bought this for road trips so thanks subaru.it has cvt issues that subaru won't acknowledge or repair, dangerous ones too such as loss of power while idling, and feeling the engine is going to die when in stop and go traffic.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
On 1000 mile one way trip the oil light came on and it could checked out for another 100 miles.this was not too dangerous but my wife is 67 years old, doesn't understand car engines and was very frightened about what to do.they stopped the car immediately and called me, to ask what to do.for anyone, especially women stopped at the side of the interstate this creates a dangerous situation.i have been told that ntsb has been told of the excessive oil consumption of subaru outback, legacy and other subaru models using a defective oil ring.it seems to me that this presents several dangers considering especially the cost of the repair.because of this cost the repairs will probably go without correction.this situation could lead to severe loss of compression, power and a dangerous problem when acceleration is critical.
Excessive oil consumption:the vehicle was purchased new in december 2012. At mileage 4,682, the engine oil level warning light illuminated.i took it to the original dealer and they observed that the oil level was low and they topped it off.the next time the light illuminated, the dealer initiated an oil consumption test.according to the test parameters, the vehicle did not consume oil excessively during the test period.following the first test, the engine oil level warning light illuminated on 2 other occasions and the dealer performed 2 modified oil consumption tests (see fb engine oil control ring tsb oil consumption test).again both tests showed no oil consumption during the test interval.the second test was performed at 16,976 miles and the third test performed at 20,896 miles.the light would illuminate prior to the next schedule oil change (dealer recommends 5,550 miles) at approximately 3,500 miles.i submitted a warranty claim with subaru north america and they authorized a short block replacement at 22,270 miles.
Since 2013 we have made numerous trips to our local subaru dealer complaining of 'engine knock'. The dealer has provided a wide array of potential 'fixes' to stop the knocking but none have worked. We have tried everything from valve adjustments to additives to chemical 'baths' for the engine but nothing has stopped the knocking. More than one service manager has said that 'knocking' is not good for the engine and needs to be addressed. However, for all their good intentions the problem has not be resolved. While we appreciate the dealer's efforts we did not pay cash (full price) to purchase a vehicle that does not perform to standard. Seeing that all 'fixes' by subaru have failed we would like our money back for the original purchase price or have the car replaced with a new subaru outback.
On multiple occasions, the vehicle stalled, as in the engine died. This is an intermittent problem. Usually it happens when the vehicle is started, the engine willdie, this will happen 2-3 times on each occurrence. It does eventually start and run correctly. A similar issue occurs when coming to a stop. The engine will "flutter" almost die and then resume normal operation. So far it has not left us stranded, however, i am concerned as to what the problem might be and at what point will it stall and not start again. I plan on taking it to my dealership and have them look at it, however, the engine light has not come on so i don't expect the computer has stored any codes for the mechanic to be able to troubleshoot.
Leaking seal on engine
Date of event: 01/11/2020time of event: 14:00while attempting to merge onto interstate 84 our 2013 subaru outback chugged then completely stalled, requiring an emergency lane shift onto the shoulder to avoid entering the busy freeway with no engine power. Luckily the car started up again (albeit very roughly) and we were able to limp it to the next exit to a location to be towed.this was a very intense and scary situation that thankfully ended in no incident.upon researching the problem it appears this stalling issue is not uncommon yet subaru does nothing to correct it. This was a near miss that i attribute to a recall that should have already occurred voluntarily by the oem.
The engine oil light turned on.stopped to check oil--was very low.bought a quart to add to the car.took to dealership and explained what had happened.it has occurred two times already--same ordeal where i have to add oil to the engine.when will nhtsa start investigating this?i have read and talked to other outback owners with the same issue.right now the dealership has put the car on a 1200 mile inspection test..... Updated 09/30/15
At 95,000 subaru replaced my transmission which was covered under an "extended warranty". It is now 1.5 years later, i have 117,000 miles and they say i need another new transmission but because it is over 100,000 miles they will not cover it. I have since found countless other people with the same problem
While going up over the grapevine on i-5 southbound, i noticed the air conditioner stopped working and the temperature gauge started creeping upward. When i got to the top, everything returned to normal, but i was concerned.after returning home from so. Ca, and after several attempts by subaru of sonora to rectify our repair costs issue, it was suggested that i call subaru of america in new jersey. Later that day, i received an email offering a 50/50 cost coverage of the $3,636 repair bill. In other words, i would pay half and half would be paid by subaru of america in nj. Soa then authorized subaru of sonora, ca to replace the cylinder head gaskets once again (first replaced at 95,000 miles) and related items/parts. The work was started on 7/15/19 and completed on 9/3/19 with 133,336 miles on the car. I have a 2 page receipt from subaru of sonora for this work, along with an email from soa.
The engine makes a pinging type noise while driving. The dealer has not been able to fix. I guessing its a possible bad valve spring.
The contact owns a 2013 subaru outback. While driving 60 mph, the oil change indicator illuminated. The contact adhered to the oil change schedule, but the failure occurred numerous times. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The approximate failure mileage was 3,000.
This car consumes oil.it's been a consistent problem since turning 25k, we have had 3 oil consumption tests and subaru states that losing between 1.1qts between service intervals is normal.this is not normal.these engines are flawed. No modern car should consume/lose oil.having owned a 2009 subaru outback impreza sport and knowing others with subaru outbacks w/out this problem it is clearly a manufacturing defect that subaru does not want to assume responsibility for.i urge the nhtsa to investigate these complaints and force subaru to recall the effected engines.
For the last 50k miles, oil consumption has gotten worse and worse.now it needs a qt of oil every 600 miles.
The contact stated that there was an abnormal noise coming from the front of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer on over two occasions where the failure was able to be replicated, but the failure was undetermined. In addition, the oil warning light randomly illuminated. The vehicle started hesitating and, as the failure progressed, caused the vehicle to stall several times. The contact was able to get the vehicle to restart, but the failure continued to progress. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vin and failure mileage were not available.
This car is an extreme oil burner. We have to add oil every 1,000 miles.there was a lawsuit and subaru is offering to replace the engine block, but our dealership says the car continues to pass the oil consumption test. Also, the clutch just went out at 58,000 miles.after an online search, i am seeing this is typical of this car.
Severe burning oil issue.releasing toxic smoke into atmosphere.this is a wide spread issue with subaru 2.5 motors.they are only offering a fix for anyone in warrantee.this is preventing many vehicles from being repaired due to cost of repair. This happens mainly on highway driving for me.i had my engine replaced out of warranty and now the junkyard motor they gave me is doing the same thing.subaru needs to take ownership of this issue, and needs to fix all of these affected motors.
Issue is ongoing for the last 6 months. Vehicle intermittently stalls when at idle and placed in gear. Hesitation when accelerating while driving (acts as if it not getting enough power.) i have taken the vehicle to 3 different dealerships and contacted subaru of america and i am not getting anywhere. Dealerships can't duplicate the problem, so therefore can't diagnose the problem. I have video records of this issue occurring.
Engine is burning oil into atmosphere.getting less than 800 miles before oil light comes on.consumes over a quart of synthetic motor oil every two weeks.subaru has been replacing motors for only when people complain and only if they are in warranty, i was outside of warranty when i experienced this, thankfully i bought some extended insurance, however they only replace the motor with a junkyard motor, which may fail again, i already suspect i am burning oil and am indeed facing the same issue after only 4 weeks.subaru needs to take ownership of this mfgr. Defect.they are polluting the atmosphere and doing as little as possible to resolve.this issue appears to affect a good portion of these cars as evidenced by all of the online chatter about it.they are fully aware of the issue.i only found out about this issue upon noticing lack of power and having my catalytic converter replaced due to it being clogged.i am already noticing this same issue there too.when i bought this car, the issue was already known to subaru.yet they did not to resolve the polluting issue.please look into this to prevent any worse damage to the environment.i am in the process of getting rid of this vehicle, but someone else may be stuck with the same issue.this happens during all driving situations.. Eg: highway or on local roads.
Last summer i was driving on the interstate. I would say i was on the road for about 1.5 hours, it was a very warm day. I was going about 75 miles an hour and i hadsudden total loss of power to the engine. Radio never stopped playing , no check engines lights came on and i could also maneuver the steering wheel. I thankfully was able to get to the side of the road(traffic was heavy).once my car was almost at a stop the engine regained power. I was able to drive to my destination.no check engine lights ever came on.i took the car to subaru dealership the next week. They could find nothing wrong with the car. They did notice a speck of debris/fuzz on the mass flow air sensor, they did change that part.now about one year later iā€™m having catalytic converters issues and that needs to be changed. I wonder if it is allconnected, and i also worry the loss of engine power will happen again. Thank you,[xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
We are experiencing excessive oil loss (over a quart) from a brand new car.a quart of oil magically disappearing.this is not right.
2013 subaru outback.consumer writes in regards to vehicle transmissions problems.the consumer stated under certain conditions, there was a considerable delay in engine response when the accelerator was pressed. When driving normal speeds there was no problem. However, after letting the accelerator up and slowing down to idle speed, the pedal was then depressed and the vehicle would often stall. It was an intermittent problem, but gradually getting worse. The dealer tried to explain the problem away, by saying the electronic accelerator pedal and new transmission had to work together in tandem and that some delay was normal.updated 10/17/13updated 10/30/13the consumer stated the stalling occurred when the accelerator was applied while coasting at idle. It happened for one to two seconds almost every time he drove the vehicle. Updated 09/25/14
Check engine light has been activated seven times since the beginning of this summer (2015).low on oil at first. Dealer changed pcv valve and topped off oil at the time of first engine light activation.now, just had $1200 of maintenance on it at different dealer.including change of temp sensor on nov 2.check engine light on again today, with difficulty starting.difficulty starting with check engine light has been for check engine indications for last month.dealer is confounded.i am very concerned with less than 71000 miles.did purchase an extended warranty for 80000 miles.did have dealer of original sale have hitch and rear view camera installed prior to delivery.
The contact owns a 2013 subaru outback. While driving approximately 5 mph and making a left turn, the vehicle stalled. The contact was able to restart the vehicle and resumed normal operation. The failure occurred multiple times. The dealer was unable to diagnose the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 7,500.
The contact owns a 2013 subaru outback. While accelerating from a complete stop, the vehicle lunged forward and stalled. The dealer was unable to diagnose the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 2,500.
Had an oil change done at the dealership in danvers march 2015.in sept. 2015, after travelling 4,000 miles, engine light came on.had to add2 quarts of oil.this is not the first time that we needed to add oil between services.all service records are up to date and were done at the same dealership where car was purchased.the car was purchased brand new.at this present time the car has only 20,100 miles.dealership keeps saying that this is normal for a car to go through this much oil.i have had five subarus and never have had one that used oil like this one.the daily driver is 75 years old and does not race it or use it as a tow vehicle (there is no tow hitch).the engine is incredibly rough when starting and can hear it idling rough as well as feeling the vibrations in the cabin.
Oil consumption problem. Oil light comes on before recommended oil change. Did 1200 mile oil consumption test with no oil burned. At about 5,000 miles oil light comes on again. I believe there is a tsb out but i believe subaru should fix problem regardless of expense. Still under warranty. Still working with dealer who have been very good about this problem so far.
The contact owns a 2013 subaru outback. The contact stated that the vehicle consumed an excessive amount of oil andadditional oil had to be added by the contact. In addition, the low oil warning indicator was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to autonation subaru arapahoe (9955 e arapahoe rd, centennial, co 80112, (303) 578-6119) where it was determined that an oil consumption test and oil change were needed. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was contacted and provided case number: 1-35088528581. The manufacturer referred the contact to the dealer. The failure mileage was approximately 30,000.
I need to put a quart of oil every 250 miles. I did an oil check with grayson subaru knoxville tn, and they told me that the car was fine.
On a freezing day in november 2019, while running an errand first thing in the morning, my 2013 subaru outback revved and tried to accelerate when i was driving that i had to push the brakes down all the way to control the speed.i put the car in neutral while pulling up to a stoplight.it quit revving so much, so when the light turned green, i put back in drive and was controllable.i let the car sit for an hour and drove again towards our local subaru dealership.while en route, it revved and accelerated as before.i was able to put in neutral and it quit revving.when i arrived at the dealership, the car wasn't revving any more.the service tech said unless it was doing it when i brought in, they wouldn't be able to identify.the car has not revved since.however, i read an article about this problem in other year outbacks and wanted to make the nhtsa aware.
Ever since we bought this vehicle, about every 2,000 miles the engine oil seems to vanish, and i have to add about a quart. I run through about 7 quarts a year. When i bought the car, i asked the dealer why the oil dipstick indicated the oil level was way above the full level. The dealer just said it must have been filled too much in the last oil change. I think it was over filled so i wouldn't notice it leaking out until a few months after i bought the car. I have to keep a spare quart in the car at all times. If the dashboard warning light ever fails, i'm worried i could seize the engine.
2013 subaru outback.consumer writes in regards to excessive oil consumption problems after replacement of oil sending unit.the consumer stated he was experiencing excessive oil consumption, before the oil sending unit was replaced.over the next few years, the oil light illuminated at an increasing rate. The consumer stated the dealer attempted to mask the problem by over-filling the reservoir, telling the amount of oil consumer was normal, etc.
The contact owns a 2013 subaru outback. While driving at an unknown speed and approaching a stop, the engine stalled. Upon accelerating, it took three to five seconds for the vehicle to move. The dealer and manufacturer were not notified. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was 52,000.
Excessive oil consumption, oil light illuminates every 3000 miles instead of purported 7500 miles. Problems started in 2016 at about 70,000 miles. Dealership did test , confirmed excessive oil consumption and is replacing short block in vehicle. Dealership states extended warranty on this problem.
About every 3,000 miles, i have refill engine oil to required level. All happened on highway - the engine consumes too much oil
This vehicle has several issues. I had an oil change and within 1 week they had to add 1.3 quarts. Car had 23,767 miles. In just over a month i have had to add almost 4 quarts of synthetic oil and spent close to $100 for the oil. The car is an automatic with a manual option and i am also haveing problems where the gears won't change in auto nor manual operation. It revs the engine and i have to stop, turn it off then restart. It happens all the time but the dealer said there is nothing wrong with it..there is also an issue with vibration of the steering wheel all the time and the brakes don't want to catch all the time. Should not have to pump the brakes 2 or 3 times to get them to engage.
Oil light came on and had to add 1 quart of oil after about 4000 miles since previous oil change. The car takes synthetic oil and is supposed to go 7500 miles between oil changes. Since then, we have had to add oil in between oil changes several times, approximately 1-2 quarts every 1500 to 3000 miles. Subaru dealer says this is normal; however, we have never had this problem with any other vehicle. We are concerned about damage to the motor by this continuing to happen. The car was bought new and only has 23,000 miles on it.
Eye sight system. When using cruise control the adaptive system senses the auto in front of your car and maintains a set distance. The auto that was in front of me moved into a left turn lane and slowed to turn. My cars eye sight system detected the car was still in front of mine and even though it was not, initialed a hard stop automatically. Lucky for me the car behind me was alert and was also able to stop before rear ending my car. This has happened several times after with cars moving either into left or right turn lanes or merging off interstates on the exit ramp. Subaru has no idea how to fix this issue. The dealership has been able to duplicate the situation. This is a very dangerous occurrence of the eye sight system that could cause an accident. There is no mention of this possibility in the eye sight manual. I disable the system now to prevent it from happening to me, but often my wife forgets. Subaru needs to find a solution. I am hoping you can help.
Traveling through desmoines iowa and navigation system instructed me audibly to exit highway to left when there was no exit and no reason for me to exit.this has happened numerous times and subaru knows that its navigation system is/was defective.
The warning lights- brakes, tire pressure, cruise control, engine lights and traction control all come on and won't go off.had them reset by the mechanics but a day later they came back on while i was driving down the highway for no reason.cruise no longer works as the lights are on.a lot of people on line seem to have this problem and i think you should make subaru issue some kind of recall to fix this problem.thank you.
Various external lights(eight) have needed to be replace. Car has only 50k miles on it.unsafe to drive car at night when one of the headlights is non functional. Flashers not functioning is not safe when making a turn.
Repeated lighting failures on exterior lights all around car. Have replaced headlights, tail and side lights repeatedly at my cost. Some completed at dealership, some completed at home after cost too much.
Since owning this vehicle, i have replaced the low beam headlights five times, high beams three times, front running lights four times, rear brake lights twice, and rear running lights five times. Subaru has offered to reimburse me for the lights, by sending them the receipts. Although this is admirable, i'm worried about electrical failures and small fires from short circuits.
Water pours into vehicle from center rear brake light every time it rains. Bloomington subaru confirmed issue is water leak via center rear brake light. Soa contacted, no response received. Original owner since new, current mileage is 30,000. Still leaks.
Excessive headlight bulb failure. Replacement of both driver and passenger sides on a more than acceptable frequency. This has been reported to dealership vehicle was purchased from new. Bulbs have been replaced by them and also by myselfnumerous times since vehicle was purchased october 2012.
The contact owns a 2013 subaru outback. While the vehicle was parked at a fuel station, the emergency brake failed to release and the eyesight collision warning failed to activate. The consumer stated parking accelerator brake failed and dealer repaired at no charge. The failure mileage was 66,600.
Upon entering a parking space,my 2013 subaru outback went from idle to full acceleration, hitting a parked, unoccupied truck. Braking had no effect on the car,the air bag did not deploy, and the car did not decelerate until i was able to engage park-within a few seconds it resumed the idle.the police made a report, car was taken to wrecking yard, and is now at repair facility for possible repair. There were no prior warnings or messages.i was unaware of a safety issue with subaru and when i contacted my local dealer,i was told they were unaware of any issues.i then did research online and found numerous problems.
On a handful of occasions while driving, suddenly the car detects an object in front of the car that it believes i will hit. The beeping and object collision detection message appears on my dash. Luckily, no car was riding closely behind me so i was able to control the vehicle before causing an accident. I donā€™t remember exactly when this started happening but i think it was 2 years ago.
In temperatures lower than 45 degrees f, if not 'warmed up' the car will make a loud thunk noise and lurch forward upon being put into drive.if the brake is not firmly engage, the car will jump forward.the subaru dealer claims this is caused by the car's status as a performance vehicle, and engine warm up needs to occur to lower the rpms.
I stopped at a stoplight. When the light changed, i pressed the accelerator and moved forward. I released the accelerator to slow up because of traffic conditions. When i pressed the accelerator again to move forward, the engine did not rev up. It was as if the car stalled. After several pushes on the accelerator ( 8 seconds worth) the engine revved up and the car once again moved forward just as if nothing was wrong. Allthis time i was blocking the intersection. This has happened multiple times now. Dealer indicates no problem found.
Issue:occasional non-response when depressing the accelerator.1st occurrence about three weeks ago happen when i stopped for a light and then attempted to accelerate.depressing the pedal has no response, attempted this three times.the rpm gauge reflected it was running. I turned on the car and started it again and it worked.2nd occurrence happened again after a stop. Same as above.3rd occurrence may 6 2017 returning from bwi in baltimore on the interstate, i was in heavy traffic.i had to slow quickly for a truck and then saw an opening in the left lane and pulled out into the left lane and attempted to accelerate with no response.a car moving fast in the left lane almost hit me since i could not accelerate. I pumped the accelerator twice and it then accelerated. 4th occurrence may 6th 2017 departing a parking lot i was moving slowly then attempted to accelerate and experienced a delayed response. Pumped the pedal twice to get the response.went to a subaru dealer after the first two occurrences and they said they could not identify the problem.the dealer called again and requested we bring the car in again april11th.a web search revealed about 24 other like occurrences with outback about the same year and make.
Sudden unintended acceleration wned pulling into parking space. The vehicile suddenly accelerated and ran into store front.

On a clear dry morning i pulled into a parking space on a slight incline in front of a brick office building. When i released the service brake (having reached the end of the parking space) the car bolted forward, jumped the curb, crossed a sidewalk, went thru shrubs, and hit the brick wall, causing severe damage to the car and building. The distance traveled was about 10 feet.
Using excessive oil. Thi si sthe secon time i had to put oil in approximately 5700 milees after an oil change. Its not leakeing anywhere.
Apply brakes while in motion and car doorlocks open. Passenger complained when getting out of car that they got a shock.

Heard some noise coming from the car and brought it to subaru.they told me i needed a new transmission for $9,000.i checked online and found this type of transmission has had numerous problems.i only have 129,000 miles on the car. I service it regularly as i have done all my vehicles in my lifetime.i have never replace a transmission on any car i owed in the +50 years of purchasing cars.
I have a 2013 subaru outback and it stutters driving between 20-40 mph. It seems to loose power when driving on city streets. Doesn't happen every time
The contact owns a 2013 subaru outback. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the brake pedal was depressed and the vehicle shuddered and stalled without warning. The contact stated that the failure was intermittent. The vehicle was taken to dreyer & reinbold subaru (1301 south, us-31 ste 2, greenwood, in 46143), to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was then taken to an independent mechanic and was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 104,000.
My car has been consuming oil to the point where it has a d minus according to the dealership but has not fixed the problem and it keeps happening. The first time they said it was almost an f. I have about 3000 miles on it when it needs oil .
Loud noise when making a sharp turn down hill to the right.also traction control/cvt fails on wet surface or snow.
During a 120,000 service at the subaru dealer (odometer at 121,333 miles) i was informed that metal filings had been observed in the differential fluid, indicating a problem with the transmission.not long after that, my vehicle experienced an issue with the transmission. I accelerated to pass on the freeway, and after having done so, the transmission kept accelerating and would not kick down for about 5 seconds.i took the vehicle into an independent repair shop where they confirmed the transmission is indeed failing.this event set up a potential safety issue, at the least being distracted in trying to get the transmission kicked down again, and, at most, having a failure on the the highway, with the potential for serious consequences.a transmission should not be going bad after only 121,000 miles. All the required maintenance and servicing had been done following subaru's recommendations.this is a known defect.subaru's weak extended warranty is just their way of avoiding the costs of fixing this defect, to the detriment of their customers.
Excessive oil usage, regularly occurswithin 6000 miles of oil change burns one quart of synthetic engine oil.also note bushing in drivers side lower control arm has failed as of 50,000.
The contact owns a 2013 subaru outback. While driving 60 mph, the brakes seized without warning. Last week, the transmission seized while in traffic on the golden gate bridge. On both occasions, the contact had to pull the vehicle over to prevent a crash. The transmission warning indicator was illuminated. The vehicle was towed three times to marin subaru (595 francisco blvd e, san rafael, ca 94901, (415) 454-9240) where it was diagnosed that a new transmission was needed. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The vehicle was repaired five additional times, but the failure continued. The manufacturer was made aware of the failures and did not assist. The failure mileage was 250,000.
Grinding coming from transmission.the vehicle stalls or delays in the transmission when taking off from stops.in one particular instance, the car had such a delay in heavy traffic that we could have had an serious accident if husband had not pulled over to get out of the way.another time it delayed for over 20 seconds at a stop light and someone nearly rear ended us.2 separate technicians from two separate dealerships recommended replacement of transmission.during their test drive both felt a shudder around 25 mph and reported a noisy transmission.other diagnosis was performed finding no other issues.the issue started 120,000 miles but technician seen unit at 128,572 miles in which he stated repairs for the replacement of the transmission would be between 8,000 and 10,000.this is our main vehicle and is unsafe and unreliable to continue to use.
Cvt transmission many issues including the transmission overheating and causing the car to completely shut off. Problems perseist and dealership can find nothing wrong initially , but the transmission has been becoming worse and worse sicnce these issues started and the transmission stalls the car.
The transmission jerks and stutters and while in traffic the car lost power for approximately 5 seconds and i was almost hit. It happens at low and high speeds. It has happened on city streets and the latest was on the highway. I have also had it stall completely at low speeds. I've had it in the dealership 3 times and they say they can't replicate it. I have had the transmission flushed. It still continues. It feels unsafe to drive.
116,700 miles and need to replace valve body.concern raised at 83,000 miles but was advised to flush transmission.automatic transmission temperature warning light comes on every summer, and concern raised but was only advised to pull over and let it cool.also having problem with low engine oil warning and need to add 1 - 2 quarts between 6000 mile oil change.this is a known issue and the short block may need to be replaced to repair this
The contact owns a 2013 subaru outback. While driving various speeds, the transmission failed. The contact stated that all four wheels seized intermittently and the vehicle made a loud grinding noise prior to the failure. Sendell subaru (5085 us-30, greensburg, pennsylvania 15601, (724) 837-1600) replaced the transmission. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and provided the contact with case number: sr#: 1-35673914925. The failure mileage was approximately 119,000.
Transmission bearing failure after 70,00 miles
We have owned the vehicle for about a year. A few weeks ago the transmission started making a horrendous noise and the car is now a very expensive lawn ornament. I have heard from a mechanic friend that the subaru cvt transmissions are known to have issues. My husband had just picked up our kids from daycare and when he went to leave the car didn't want to go in gear and made a grinding noise that it continued to make. We parked it to prevent further damage.
Randomly, the floor shift lever locks while in park and i can not start the car or turn the key. I have to pull back and forth on the steering wheel and jiggle the shift lever until i am able to turn the key to start the car. When this happens, i am stuck where ever i have parked until i can get the key to turn and start the car and shift into reverse or drive what ever the case may be. There is no telling when this will happen as i park, just random and nothing seems to trigger the locking event.
Vehicle was in motion at at a consistent speed of around 15 mph, the vehicle stalled and suddenly stopped. The gas pedal was unresponsive and the vehicle would not move. Had to stop, put the transmission back in park, restart the vehicle, at which point the vehicle began to move again.
The contact owns a 2013 subaru outback. While driving various speeds, the vehicle stalled and vibrated. Numerous unknown warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel. Periodically, the vehicle would not start. The vehicle was taken to a local repair shop where the contact was informed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The dealer was not notified. The vin was not available. The failure mileage was 120,000.
The contact owns a 2013 subaru outback. While driving at approximately 50 mph, the vehicle hesitated to accelerate and attempted to stall. The contact stated that the vehicle was burning excessive oil and there was an abnormal noise. The vehicle was diagnosed by a certified mechanic who stated that the power train needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 48,000.
Sabaru has a problem with their automatic transmissions in 2010 tho 2015 vehicles.i have 2013.it has been determined that my transmission needs to be replace.i've been waiting for over a month now and parts ( a new transmission} are still not available.i'm complaining so it is noted that sabaru is dragging their feet on getting this problem resolved.the least sabaru could do is inform the customer as to a date when the parts will available.i need to use the car.
Having maintained my subaru outback at a subaru dealer since purchase, i expected few major problems. Over the last few months, a small buzzing sound from the transmission has grown to a loud sound. The subaru tech said my transmission was done. 133000 miles and subaru offered $1000 toward a new car or new $8000 transmission. The car is now worthless.
While driving 50 mph, the vehicle would downshift to a lower gear without warning. The failure intermittently recurred. The vehicle was taken to capitol subaru (located at 920 capitol expressway auto mall, san jose, ca 95136, (408) 763-4024) where diagnostic testing was completed; however, a failure code could not be found. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 17,000. Consumer stated loses power suddenly.
At 107k miles my transmission failed.only certain vin #'s are recalled.mine not being one of them.although there is a known transmission problem with 2013 subaru outbacks.i have to replace the transmission.
Noise coming from underneath vehicle when accelerating that i noticed in feb 2017. Took the car in to subaru dealer and all they did was replace the differential fluid and said "noise will go away with time." like any car issue, it did not go away on its own. Oct 2018 took the car in to local mechanic and they said it needed a new cvt transmission. Also said that my car could stall at any time so i did not drive it. Took it to subaru for a second opinion and they agreed, new cvt transmission. They also informed me that there was an extended warranty on the transmission that ended july 2018, but i was never informed of the extended warranty. Subaru offered to pay 50% of a $10,000 repair so we paid $5,000. Still a very unacceptable amount of money for a car only worth $10,000. This part should be recalled as it can cause stalling at any time.very disappointed in subaru at this time.
I have had 2 incidents since buying new outback in april 2013.i was at a complete stop while vehicle was in drive.when i lifted my foot from brake to accelerate, the car revved up and lunged forward on its own.both times i was able to slam on the brake and avoid an accident.now i feel that i cannot trust the car whenever i come to a stop.i am waiting to hear from dealer about this 2nd incident, since after 1st time they tested and said "cannot find a problem"......however, after reading another complaint it could be a malfunction between electronic accelerator pedal and new cvt transmission!!!also, sometimes i feel the car is maintaining a speed without any acceleration (like on cruise control).
I bought a subaru outback 2.5 limited on 9/29/12.there has been intermittent clicking noises during acceleration and when taking foot off the gas pedal, usually when near or above 38 miles per hour. The clicking noises range for low to loud. My car has now been in the dealer for over 1 week. The first time i took it in they said it was due to a loose panel behind the glove compartment and they "screwed" it in place. The same noise continued to occur without improvement. I then went on ride with the service clerk and he thought he heard it when he was driving but not when he was a passenger. Then i left the car with the dealership service and the service manager drove it today and denies he hears any abnormal noises. Even before the service manager drove the car, he said he spoke to their corporate technician and was told it was likely just a normal cvt noise, essentially dismissing my concern. So i wasn't surprised when he denied hearing it. Now the general manager is taking my car home for a test drive today. I am going to record the noise for them and their corporate and an attorney if they still deny hearing it.
Transmission will not shift into a lower gear when trying to accelerate from a full stop or from a slow speed.this problem occurs within first minute or so after starting the car when engine is cold (e.g. First thing in the morning).first thing in the morning, i will begin driving the car within 10-15 seconds of first starting the engine. I drive 2 blocks where i come to a stop sign.from a full stop i must wait for a break in traffic traveling 30-35 mph.as i press on the accelerator, engine noise will increase and rpms increase as expected; but car reacts as if transmission is shifting from 1st to 4th gear directly (preventing the car from accelerating safely.)more than once, cars overtaking me from behind had to slow or take evasive action to avoid rear-ending me.this only happens when engine is cold.once engine warms, car will accelerate from a dead stop without problem.
For several months, subaru of america was made aware of our vehicle's dangerous performance.stalling while coming to a stop, turning as well as a noticeable whining noise from the cvt.the vehicle was taken into gillman subaru sw due to these issues in july, 2018, before the end of the "extended warranty".the vehicle was misdiagnosed as having bad wheel bearings and possibly bad spark plugs.both ended up turning out to be wrong.wheel bearings were changed, spark plugs as well.in effect, the dealership stalled and soa effectively took advantage of this to deny the claim.should the nhtsa care to have audio recordings of various calls that demonstrate this, please feel free to contact us.we are now forced to seek legal recourse as soa has decided to act in bad faith with a very dangerous symptom.a recall, that forces the manufacturer to act in good faith is needed.we're fortunate to have recorded conversations, texts, e-mails that hopefully will serve us well.however, the idea that legal recourse is required in an effort to motivate or force a manufacturer to perform in good faith is unreasonable and entirely unsafe.how many others do not have the pertinent conversations on tape?a recall is warranted.an automatic transmission that dies while turning need not be the standard of what's appropriate on the road.
The contact owns a 2013 subaru outback. The contact stated that while driving 55 mph, the brake pedal was depressed and the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact also mentioned that on a several other occasions, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle resumed normal operation after the vehicle was turned off and restarted. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer autonation subaru spokane valley located at 10000 e. Sprague ave, spokane valley, wa 99206 where it was diagnosed with needing the transmission valve body and solenoid to be replaced. The manufacturer was contacted however, no assistance was offered. The vehicle had not been repaired as of yet. The failure mileage was approximately 122,000.*dtsubaru contributed $1000 towards repair and dealer service center replaced valve body and solenoid. Afterwards noisefrom the transmission was worse than before repair and dealer now reports that the entire transmission needs to bereplaced at a cost of $9,300. Subaru usa offered only $1,500 towards this replacement.*dt*ln
2013 subaru outback. Entire set of warning lights came on five minutes after started driving vehicle.mechanic said to have it towed.diagnosis: cvt transmission totally fried at a mere 106,600. Should be able to get a lot more miles from this transmission. Lemon lawbut should be a recall. $8000 repair bill.
I was driving early in the morning when the car, a2013 subaru outback, started to act unpredictably;revving and jumpy. I was scared to continue driving it in that state and pulled into a parking lot. It seemed clear it would not make it up the 8 % grade hill that was 1/4 mile or so further down the road. I had to be towed out of the lot to the local subaru dealer. I understand such total failure transmission events are a known subaru issue for my model and year. I am very upset that there was no recall and now subaru is saying their voluntary extension of the warranty expired and they won't pay for the new transmission. They have offered $2500 in a gesture of good will, but that will not come close to covering the cost of replacing this defective transmission. Subaru should issue a recall for these defective transmissions that were included in the "customer satisfaction" extended warranty before something disastrous occurs.
While driving at very low speeds between 10-20 mph, usually in front of a school in session, the speed surges from the current speed to a lower speed back to the same speed. It is not consistent but it occurs at least 3-5 times per week. This has been going on for almost a year but overtime it is taken in to the subaru dealer, they are unable to duplicate the issue and always state that they have found nothing wrong. After investigating on the internet concerning this issue, other individuals have a similar experience, some even worst and they all state that the dealer always tells them the same thing: they find no issues.
While driving the transmission light starts flashing along with the brake lights many warning lights and i drove it right to the dealer just a couple miles away they tested it said the transmission is no longer functioning properly the car was making a low pitched rumbling sound for a few weeks before that and for a long timethere was a delay while putting the shifter in to parkbefore that for over year and a half while i was driving when i would slow down to a stop the engine would slow down where it seem like it was going to stall out dealer checked it and said the transmission was ok that was over a year ago now one month out of the extended warrantee it conks out completely and subaru does not want to do anything about it i wondered if you are still talking aboutdoing a recall on the transmission because subaru got around it before by doing this extended warranty?there should be a recall on this faulty transmission that they used in this 2013 subaru vehiclethanks
I was driving home from work and a warning light came on.the warning light indicated that the transmission fluid was overheating.i noticed steam was coming from under the hood.the car ceased forward momentum and came to a halt in the middle of the road (curvy and hilly country road).inspection showed transmission fluid gushing out of the transmission.a large puddle joined what i later discovered to be nearly ten miles of transmission fluid trail.this is the fourth transmission to go into the car.
While driving on i 10 at 70 mph, 30 mile's east of tallahassee. Fl, the transmission failed.luckily, i coasted to the shoulder.it easily could have ended in a fatality.in february, 2019, the at oil temp light came on. At that time fitzgerald subaru in clearwater fl (my hometown) checked out my car and said nothing is wrong.so, i was driving the car for my vacation in michigan and the at oil temp came on again with subsequent transmission failure.come to find out, these bad transmissions are a known problem.the federal government needs to make subaru do a recall before someone gets killed because of their negligence.
While towing a camper well within the towing capacity of the vehicle, the vehicle would not accelerate beyond 60 miles an hour. We (myself, my wife, and 6 dogs) were south of pueblo, colorado going up that very long include towards trinidad. The vehicle's engine would not rev as if it's transmission was failing, but it would absolutely not accelerate beyond 60. We pulled over and contacted the nearest subaru dealership (back in pueblo) and went back to pueblo and had them look it over. They couldn't find anything wrong and their test did not show any problems. They were only able to speculate that it may be a failsafe feature that prevents the engine from becoming damaged when it begins to overheat. We had driven from north of dallas to west of fort collins, with stops, without problems, but this day the temperature was 50 degrees and probably the warmest it had been our entire trip. We had previously stopped for a few hours in garden of the gods, so it had only been back on the road for an hour when this occurred. After the dealership looked at it, we hitched it back up and continued on our trip. They instructed us to just drive slower when going up hills and mountains. We experienced problems again when we got to trinidad, but drove through it since the exits are rather sharp and black ice was a concern. Once we stopped driving up inclines the vehicle drove like normal. After we stopped towing the camper the vehicle stopped having issues.
This 2013 subaru outback was purchased in dec. 2013.the original warranty was for 60,000 miles.at some point, due to issues with this make and models transmission, the warranty of these vehicles was extended to 10 years or 100,000 miles.this car now is 5 years old and has 130,000 miles and the subaru dealership is saying that the transmission needs to be replaced at a price tag of $10,000.subaru usa is offering to apply $1500 towards the transmission replacement or apply towards a new subaru.subaru usa knows that these transmissions were defective or they would not have extended the warranty.extending the warranty does not absolve subaru usa from the responsibility of installing defective transmissions.this 5-year old automobile with 130,000 miles is now virtually worthless.subaru usa installed defective transmissions and should be liable for replacement of the transmission.there was no accident involved with this complaint.
Using excessive oil. Thi si sthe secon time i had to put oil in approximately 5700 milees after an oil change. Its not leakeing anywhere.
On 11/24/16 while traveling at highway speeds, (60- 65 mph), on the pa.turnpike my 2013 subaru outback 2.5i, with the cvt transmission and 94,000 miles on the car, suffered a catastrophic transmission failure. With no warning, other than somewhathigher than normal engine rpms, the transmission, with very loud noises and shaking the car, all 4 wheels locked up. This resulted in the car skidding somewhere between200 and300feet. Just before the car stopped skidding, there was one last loud bang/clanging/ shaking of the car. We were extremely fortunate in that there was little traffic at the time, and we avoided any collision damage or personal injuries.the car had to be towed off the highway. While being loaded onto the flatbed truck, the front wheels were locked up, while the rear wheels were turning. This was with the engine running, and the transmission in neutral. I had to have my car towed 300 miles back home to a local subaru dealership. ( not where i had purchased the car new) the initial diagnosis from the dealer was that the transmission fluid had been contaminated by gear lube.they based this on a visual examination of the cvt fluid from my car. This was disproved by my having the cvt fluid analyzed by an independent lab. Their conclusions were that the fluid had been severely overheated, and the viscosity changed to where it no longer provided proper lubricationas of 1/24/17, subaru of america,(corporate offices) has denied my claim of a defective transmission, and will not assist me with any repair costs, or replacement.the local dealer and service department are still amazed with what happened, and the results of the cvt fluid report. They have not heard of this type of failure very often.
"takata recall" the transmission started failing at around 105k. It turns out this is a known problem by subaru and after talking to customer service, they refused to fix the issue owing to the fact that it was over 100k miles. They gave extended warranties for vehicles but only up to 100k. I think that this should have been an actual recall and not an extended warranty. Its a major safety concern that subaru is aware of.
I am the original owner of this vehicle. The transmission failed ataround 71,000 miles with a 60,000 mile warranty. Subaru offered to assist with the cost of the repair in the amount of $3,600. Much later subaru reimbursed the full amount of the repair. I believe this action was to avoid a recall. The vehicle is now at around 131,000 miles and the transmission has failed again. Subaru has offered a $1,000 credit on a new subaru as compensation. I expected at least a 60,000 mile warranty on my 2nd transmission but subaru informed me that the warranty was only for 24 months or 24,000 miles. I believe that subaru knows that these transmissions are defective and should be recalled. In my opinion the original repair by subaru was nothing more than a temporary patch job and not an actual fix for the transmission. On both occasions the transmission became very loud while driving and appeared to be in imminent danger of complete failure.
The headrest points at a harsh angle forward and may cause severe neck injury.two seperate incidents:1. Moving forward at a left turn angle, cars hitting each others rt front. Result brain stem hemorrhage and bilateral hematoma. April 3, 20182. Stopped in traffic hit from the rear. Result neck strain. May 10, 2018
I took the car into dealership service to report an electrical drain on the battery, requiring the car to be jumped started if left several days parked. Service department tested electrical system and replaced the battery. Car was parked in their lot for several hours and on return the car was was found to be heavily damaged by smoke and fire from passenger seat. The car was totaled by my insurance company.

Seat head rest is too far forward and upper seat contours backward, putting pressure on neck and affecting spine. Seat needs added support (with a small upper back support and probably a lumbar support) to take pressure off the neck and get the head free from being pushed. Neck should be straight. Over time this will damage the spine if the headrest isn't made adjustable or support added to the seat. I'm adding support to the seat from aftermarket cushioning to get the pressure off my head/neck. Would like an adjustable headrest as was included in the 2013 subaru impreza to get the headrest off the head (and the pressure off the neck, to get my neck and back straight).--- i am worried about receiving spam so didn't want to fill out some of the extra info asked for.

There is no specific date nor was there an accident.this is a chronic problem.due to the new design of seats and head restraint i am now in physical therapy for chronic head and neck pain.started a couple of weeks after i bought my new car.had doctor appt, head scan and now physical therapy.i believe the scooped seats do not allow for an imperfect shape.my right leg is now legged and i sit at a turn i. The seat which puts a lot of strain on my spine in the over shaped seat.mostly the new head restraint in relation to the shoulder position of the seat puts a lot of strain on my neck.i am taking ibuprofen everyday and the pain is a real distraction to my work and daily life.i provide anesthesia full time and need to be at my best for this line of work rather than in physical therapy. This also costs money and takes away from enjoying my life.for a few months i was able to drive an older car 80% of the time and found the aching went away.i only drive less than ten minutes to work.
Use more than a quart of oil a week and just change brakes and they shimmy and jolt
The contact owns a 2013 subaru outback. While driving approximately 30 mph in inclement weather, the vehicle began to slide while driving downhill. The contact attempted to control the steering, but it would not move. The vehicle did not respond and struck a delineator post, slid in the opposite direction towards a concrete wall, and suddenly stopped. A police report was filed. There were no injuries. The manufacturer was not notified. The approximate failure mileage was 37,000.
Brake master cylinder is failing, according to subaru service mechanic.prior 4 years of same model were under recall for master cylinder defect, replacement.this is technically the same problem.subaru has provided free replacements for some 2013 owners who had this problem with master cylinder.seal in mc is broken.
I have 2013 subaru outback. Couple of month after buying it i discovered the issue where my foot would be stuck on the brake pedal. There is some kind of a flap above the pedal. The flap normally just touches the top of a shoe. But in some situations/positions of the pedal it presses on the foot. When you try to move the foot out of the pedal, it bends and braces it, practically locking the foot. It does not happen consistently, but rather infrequently. What makes it worse is wearing bulky shoes like sneakers, shoes with buckles, or with a mesh top. The mesh also gets caught on the flap. A couple of times i was in situations where it took 10-15 seconds to get the foot out of the brake pedal. At least once i have been nearly rear-ended because i couldn?t accelerate immediately after breaking.i complained on this issue 4 times at subaru service. They tweaked it somewhat, but never completely fixed, and it got worse again after every maintenance service. While trying to understand how it is remedied, i found that the dealership didn?t record these complaints in my car history.so i wrote an email to subaru. Subaru customer service person told me to make another appointment, as he?ll instruct the dealership how to fix the issue. I brought my car in, waited for an hour, but then was told no instructions were received from subaru. On the next contact with the subaru customer service i received the following reply:?there are no repairs required and no repairs were performed. We have no recommendations as there were no problems found.? however, it appeared that subaru has fixed the problem during that appointment, while telling me nothing was done.the flap was replaced with the longer version, so that the foot never gets under it, but rather pushes the flap inside.this is a serious safety issue. It is obvious subaru is aware of it, but doesn?t admit it exists. ...updated 07-16-15ma 07/30/15 updated 10/26/2017
Brake light flashes and parking brake does not function
Was driving south on i-5 near orland, ca on 12/26/18 when my outback began shaking and attempting to "brake" (i was doing between 65 - 70 mph). I looked down and the parking brake signal was illuminated. (i had not engaged the brake.) i was able to pull to the side of the road. I disengaged the brake and resumed. It happened again. I pulled off the road and called my subaru dealership, carlsen subaru, redwood city, ca. I disengaged the brake -- but the brake kept trying to re-engage. I could drive but only have consistently and constantly making sure the brake was not engaged. The brake light would flash on and off periodically. I immediately took the car into the dealership on 12/27/18. As suspected, the dealership diagnosed the problem as the parking brake module. The charge was $185 for diagnosis and another estimated $1,250 for the repair. (see attached diagnostic/estimate) one of the service technicians gave me the national subaru customer service number -- i called and alerted them. They are investigating. However, later that evening i discovered subaru has recalled 27,000 2010-2014 outbacks & legacys with failing parking brakes. The subaru recall is offering replacement or extended warranty provisions depending on whether the car is manual or automatic transmission (with affected vin numbers). (recall began in oct 2018. I have received no notification.) the national subaru representative made no mention of the current recall to me. I went to the dealership again this morning (12/28/18)--got a copy of the diagnosis/estimate. The service technicians do not see the recall in their system with my vin number. This appears to be a similar issue to others reported in the recall -- subaru should look carefully at other vehicles within those same year/model ranges. I feel the car may be dangerous to drive.
I have a legal notice for airbags.the brakes didn't work properly recently in an emergency situation.
My 2013 subaru outback 2.5i wanders at highway speeds.constant corrections are required as it will not track in a straight line even when their are no outside influences (ex: wind).small corrections add up to over correction requiring more correction.staying in lane can be a challenge.
From the day we bought it, the car wanders left and right, noticeably at speeds above 40 mph, requiring constant steering wheel corrections in both directions.
Power steering failed while driving. Power steering fluid had all leaked out. Luckily car was at a very low speed as steering was quite difficult. Repaired at subaru dealer who discovered a leak in a metal high pressure line. There was no evidence of external damage to pressure line. Photo showed a hairline crack at the outside of a 90ā° bend, thus probably a manufacturing defect. Dealer replaced entire steering rack.
Dangerous! the vehicle does not track well at highway speeds. It wanders side to side in the lane of travel requiring constant correction to stay in the center of the lane. On smooth road surfaces, the wandering is still very noticeable. High crosswinds experienced driving in the plains or crossing bridges with a grated decks makes the vehicle a challenge to control the wandering and staying within my lane. I took the car to the dealer and reported the problem. They inspected the steering, wheel alignment, wheel balance, and tires. They didn't find any problems. There is no technical service bulletin for this issue and the internet bulletin boards are full of complaints with the same type of issue. I personally feel the vehicles are not engineered correctly or they are leaving the factory with inadequate alignments or the alignment specifications are not correct in general. I love my vehicle until i drive faster than 45mph. Safety is my #1 concern and it needs to be seriously addressed. Long trips are way more fatiguing than they should be and interstate driving is scary for most of the drive. This is the link that discusses the same problems i've addressed here http://www.subaruoutback.org/forums/104-gen-4-2010-present/31638-ob-lane-wandering.html.
Our complaint is that this 2013 outback subaru continues to drift.it does not just drift one way.you are constantly correcting to keep it in the center of the road.the first time we complained they did an alignment.that did not correct the problem.we then ask if they check the tires.they claimed there is no problem with theirs but they lowered the air pressure and that made it worse.took it back to the dealer and had them increase the air pressure.the service manager keeps telling us there is no mechanical issues.you cannot relax driving this car.i hope i never have to drive it in a snow storm because of the lack of the steering control.
Wonders from side to side.took back to dealer they check alignment.said everything was in spects.there was no charge this time for alignment but would not do it again for free.we purchased extended warranty at time of purchase.what a waste! my daughter and son-in-law borrowed it last summer.put 8000 miles on it driving across country.had a terrible time keeping it on the road.they where going to buy a outback but quickly changed their mind.called dealer again and the service manger told me to change tiresand cross rotate them.i told him we already did that and my husband cross rotated them.he said that there would be a charge to look at it.since they didn't do anything the first time why pay them more to tell me it is in spects?i think they are waiting for someone to get killed or be killed.this is most definitely a safety issue.
While driving at speeds over 40 it is very difficult to keep the car centered in a lane. The dealer checked and corrected the alignment with little or no improvement.the service rep did admit that outbacks do wander.email sent to subaru has apparently been ignored.this is an unsafe condition in our crowded interstates.
Steering was making a noise (as if steering wheel was turned all of the way to one side) with only slight movement but it worked. This noise occurred with every turn. After running an errand with approximately 5 miles of use, i returned to the parked car and backed out of parking to find that the steering wheel was turning but the wheels were not! i had the vehicle towed to dealership. Note: a recall of the steering was done by the dealership in oct 2013 and no issues had occurred with that repair until now.
Steering issue.the car wanders, left and right.at freeway speed you must hold on with both hands and make constant corrections.the dealer verified that everything in the steering and suspension was tight, but this did not help the problem.i've had the vehicle for a year now with no change, except i've learned how to control it better.i found many similar complaints on the internet and gave these to the dealer.they did not seem to be aware of the issue previously.i've been to the dealer for scheduled maintenance just twice, and have had them look at the issue both times.i was hoping there would be a recall to fix whatever the underlying issue is.this is my second outback (previous was a 2005) and my third subaru (i also have a 2009 impreza).
The new outback is exhibiting lane wandering as others described in good detail.other vehicles i've driven go in a (more-or-less) straight line with minimal effort and minimal corrections.the ob is all over the road, able to stay in the lane with a lot of effort and correction.there is a big flaw in the steering (maybe not all but a lot of them) and it is a safety issue.is it going to take a major accident and/or a death before nhtsa and subaru takes a look at this issue??
The contact owns a 2013 subaru outback.the contact stated that the steering wheel was extremely unstable and needed constant adjustment.the dealer was unable to duplicate the failure, but performed a four wheel alignment and increased the tire pressure.the failure recurred.the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 13v194000 (steering).the vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was notified.the approximate failure mileage was 2,000.
My orb was working full time than just quit with wheels straight, but would work with quarter turn and now won't work at all
Vehicle "wanders" constantly at speeds from 30 mph to 70 mph. I would imagine at higher speeds as well. Constant correction is needed to keep vehicle in proper lane. When even the slightest correction is made, it over-corrects. It doesn't seem possible to not over-correct. The vehicle will wander to the right and no matter how gentle the correction, it over-corrects and wanders to the left then back to the right and so on. It is a constant challenge to stay in your own lane. A small gust of wind significantly magnifies the problem. I believe just turning your head to look out your side window to check lane traffic could result in crossing a center line. I believe that this steering problem makes this vehicle unsafe and likely will result in some serious problems if it hasn't already. It is very tiring to drive any distance. The dealer has made a couple minor attempts to make it better, but hasn't succeeded. While the dealer worked on my car i used two different "loaners". Both 2013 subaru outbacks. Both had the same problems.
Driving 55-60 mph car continually "drifted" off of center when driving, most noticeable on a straight stretch of road. Constant correction and recorrection needed to keep vehicle in its own driving lane. Dealer inspected vehicle and claimed there are no mechanical issues however many online complaints exist about this problem. I took a big loss but i immediately traded this brand new car in - i was terrified to drive it and consider this lack of steering control will get someone killed.
This vehicle presented issues after the first 500 miles of ownership. After 1 repair attempt it is still the same. This vehicle replaced a 2012 outback which had the same issues.the problem with the steering in the 2012 and the 2013 is that both the vehicles wander all over the road. You need to keep all your attention on keeping it following the road causing extreme fatigue. It is described by me as heavy, does not return to center and in even slight turns the car suddenly pulls in the direction you are traveling which is startling like hitting black ice. Taking your eyes to even the side mirrors for lane changes offers the vehicle to invite itself into oncoming traffic. This replacement 2013 i now have started presenting these symptoms after about the first 500 miles. There is a thread on the matter on the subaruoutback.org forum with over 670 replies on the matter. Http://www.subaruoutback.org/forums/104-gen-4-2010-present/31638-ob-lane-wandering.html the responses on page 45 describe the problem pretty well. My responses are under [xxx]. One response #442 was "and now, at 17 months & 25k mis, we still have a 'new' car that steers like a drunk pushing a shopping cart with a bad wheel..." how sad is that? please, look into the matter because if someone didn't get hurt already someone will. All my drives are very exhausting. This is now my third subaru so i am not new to subaru and/or awd.i still offer your organization the opportunity to inspect and drive my vehicle to personally experience what i am describing. I do not want to see anyone to get hurt of lose their life. Thank you information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).the consumer referenced recall # 13v194000.
2013 subaru outback 3.6r w/sapi am experiencing a heavy steering issue. Where the return to center does not happen unless i manually steer it back to center. Steering is so heavy that after 3000 miles. (purchased in june 2013), both of my wrists are in pain, my right elbow is in pain, and my right hand feels like it has carpal tunnel syndrome. Constant corrections are needed to keep tracking straight. I increased tire psi to 34/32, and it helped a little, but steering still does not return to center. Here are 2 links to similar issues:http://www.subaruoutback.org/forums/104-gen-4-2010-present/73034-need-return-center-test-2013-outback.htmlhttp://www.subaruoutback.org/forums/104-gen-4-2010-present/31638-ob-lane-wandering.html
Our 2013 subaru outback was two years old when the tilt steering feature would not stay locked into place.the steering column for the tilt steering would not stay locked and the steering wheel would drop while the car was in motion.the car was taken to the dealership for repair where we were told that internal locking mechanism had broken and the entire steering column needed to be replaced.which it was replaced and had held in place.in march of 2018 the tilt steering would once again not stay locked into place causing the steering wheel to drop while in motion.it was taken back to the same dealership, where we were told the same exact thing had happened again and would require the entire steering column to be replaced.the biggest concern here is safety.the steering column dropping while the car is moving puts the driver and anyone else on the road at risk.we were never provided a plausible explanation as to why this happened to the car not once but twice.the explanation given for the reoccurring problem was 'normal wear and tear from using the tilt feature too much.'we have had other subaru outbacks with the tilt steering feature and have not experienced any problem with the steering wheel not locking into place.
Shortly after i purchased vehicle i noticed difficulty keeping it centered in lane. Continuously having to correct steering and hard steering. I drive on interstate often and i have checked tires continuously and no difference in the handling of the outback. On first service i told the service rep about it and said they would check it out, i believe they checked the alignment, when picked up the vehicle and was told everything was normal. Is it unsafe, yes. Now i have 25000 mile on it and still continues. Still mention it at service time but they don't really even respond anymore.
The contact owns a 2013 subaru outback. The contact stated that the steering wheel drifted to the left and had to be constantly turned to the right in order to keep the vehicle in its appropriate lane. The failure occurred while driving 65 mph and also at local speeds. The dealer inspected the vehicle and stated that the steering wheel was operating as designed and the alignment was normal. The dealer did not replace any parts. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 2,500.updated 10/22/14 updated 08/28/2017*ct
Steering wheel visible vibrates at 70+ mph on the highway despite multiple realignments and mechanic visits to various dealers. Car sometimes fights driver to veer left/right. It is difficult to drive (sometimes even exhausting). Has been an ongoing issue for last 5 years, progressively getting worse.car has never been involved in an accident and has been maintained properly.
The vehicle does not track well at highway speeds.it wanders side to side in the lane of travel requiring constant correction to stay in the center of the lane.on smooth road surfaces, the wandering is relatively mild.however, i became alarmed while crossing a bridge with a grated deck.the vehicle swerved side to side dramatically requiring significant steering correction and immediate reduction in speed to maintain the lane of travel safely.i took the car to the dealer and reported the problem.they inspected the steering, wheel alignment, wheel balance, and tires.they didn't find any problems except they recommended that we inflate the tires 5 psi above manufacturer's recommendations.the extra pressure improved the steering somewhat, but the problem persists.i have not yet driven the vehicle in challenging winter conditions such as standing water or slush on the highway.however, after my experience on the grated bridge, i am very concerned that this car would pose a safety hazard in these conditions.i feel this vehicle has a significant design or manufacturing defect that directly affects my safety.
The steering of my new subaru outback seems to wander on the road.it is a challenge to keep this brand new vehicle between the lines or in a particular lane of the road.vehicle wanders / drifts to left and / or right, will not track straight and does this when ever driving but is more noticeable above speeds of 35 mph.the driver has to make constant corrections while driving the vehicle straight, this causes fatigue in the arms and is exhausting to the operator.one can not safely operate a vehicle like this.a semi-tractor trailer rig was on the right side of my lane (we were in the number 1 lane of the highway) and my outback wandered to the right, we almost went into / under the trailer of the "big rig".i later i contacted the subaru dealership and arraigned to bring vehicle back to have them look at it.when ireturned with the vehicle, they checked alignment and said it was ok.the vehicle continues to wander whenever i drive it and daily while i drive to and from work.again, i drove the vehicle back to the subaru dealership and they have been talking with subaru of america, receiving different specs and the service department has been doing some work on the vehicle.i have never owned a vehicle, new or old (used) that handled this way.there are several forums with pages of information, data and complaints by people from all over the country.please act now to resolve these issues before someone's looses their life due to the unsafe faulty vehicles.
We purchased this vehicle 2-7-16 used with 28,000 miles.when driving on the highway over 50 vehicle wandered all over the road we constantly had to correct the steering to keep between the white lines.dealer said this was the way rack and pinion stealing worked.after doing some investigation on your web site this seems to affect many of these vehicles.seems that subaru has denied any problems with the 3013 outback.we put up with this problem for two weeks and traded this lemon in at the same dealer that sold us this junk.we lost about 5 k in this transaction but our safety is much more inportant then the money.in 40 years purchasing and driving all types of vehicles this is by far the worst ever.we will never look for a subaru again.hopefully our government will look into this serious safety situation.
This new vehicle has steering that tends to wander from side to side while driving on various types of roads. On urban interstate travel it is necessary to be very vigilant when driving in the lanes as the car will often head for the edge of the lane without warning. This tendency is balanced between both left and right, and does not seem to be predictable. Took the vehicle to the dealer and the head mechanic drove the car. They specified that the vehicle was to manufacturer's specifications. I find that the attention that must be paid to maintain the vehicle within the roadway lanes is tiring and far exceeds any other vehicle i have driven.
When driving over 40mph the car seems to jerk out of the blue it even seems like one side of the vehicle lifts or tilts as if it has hydraulics makes it hard to control continuously grip the steerg wheel in order to keep control is unbearable. There is something seriously wrongafter readg online&on this website obvious somethings wrong.why r u waiting for crashes& possible deaths to raise this issue?when driving on the highway at normal highway speeds all of a sudden you feel a quick pull as if a magnet just pulled your car and it also starts to lift when driving on the highway at normal speeds.car lifts the front right side of suspension as if it's going to roll over and at the time it drops like it's going to fold under and you're going to crash.like it has hydraulics but only on one side. This is very scary when your driving at normal highway speeds.this makes you slow down out of nowhere and causing others around you to suddenly avoid you. This is a nightmare.subaru needs to acknowledge there is a problem.see all the other complaints and there is a lot more online by others that don't know how to go to this website and place a formal complaint because i did not even know about it. Came across by mistake. This car is meant for driving long distances and i am afraid to do so. When your afraid to drive your own car scarred of the quick jerk and the possible rolling of your car due to the "real" actions the car is performing while driving is and should be a vehicle safety concern prior to accidents and deaths taking place.just because the "manufacturer" says it's in specs does't mean nothg wrong plus its the manuf sayg this, not an independent company.boweingtheir airplane had hard time stating plane's fault. You can not put the manuf in charge of making the right choice when it comes to money.
Car does not track straight during highway driving. Car veers to one side or the other needing constant correcting. When you do make a correction it normally over corrects. This is incredibly dangerous! i thought it was just me but my husband has also had the same problem and i see many complaints on the internet. Subaru must be made to fix this. This is an expensive car.
The contact owns a 2013 subaru outback. The contact stated the he purchased the vehicle 2012. He noticed his steering wheel would drift while driving. The contact took his vehicle to a subaru dealership for a diagnosis and the dealer stated that there was nothing wrong with the vehicle. The problem persisted after the diagnostic test was performed. The contact located recall nhtsa campaign number: 13v194000 (steering); however, his vin was not included in this recall although is experiencing the same defect listed. The manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 1000 miles. The vehicle was not repaired. ..updated 04-23-14 the consumer stated the vehicle was to be repaired under waranty.updated 04/25/2014 ..updated01/20/15
Directional stability; difficult to keep car centered in lane;wanders off from where steering is set;steering will not center, but will stay in a gentle curve by itself until corrected, then will wander off center again.contributing to problem is too much force is required in a steering action to correct a wander causing a slight overshoot which no matter how carefully controlled, cannot keep the car going in the correct direction, whether in a curve or keeping straight.the faster the car is going, naturally the more intense the problem becomes. The constant attention required to adjusting steering is fatiguing and hence the car is inherently unsafe.dealer and independents have always said no problem found; alignments make no difference, new tires make no difference.this is a safety issue, an engineering flaw, and/or an attempt to hide another more serious safety or drivability issue. Subjectively it seems to be getting worse over time.
Steering on this vehicle is so heavy that it causes orthopedic problems. The steering drag tension is set so high that it is difficult to control the vehicle at highway speeds, and difficult to maneuver the vehicle into parking places at low speeds.parallel parking is painful. I had other people drive it to eliminate my subjective view of this, and every person thought it was hard to drive.subaru thinks this is normal, and refuses to allow its service departments to adjust the tension if it's within it's "specs" even when the driver of this expensive vehicle does not feel safe driving it.subaru service department's reasoning was that "it felt like every other subaru outback."this doesn't make it ok; it just confirms that subaru is selling more than one dangerous car. This is an unsafe condition that subaru is allowing to persist rather than actually addressing the other issue the unreasonably tight tension is masking - steering wheel shakes.this is my second subaru and is the last one i will ever purchase - not because the car couldn't otherwise be a good vehicle, but because this is a legitimate safety issue that subaru is ignoring and will continue to ignore until forced to change, probably after a large lawsuit brought by the estate of a subaru owner who was killed in their vehicle.and, because subaru has such terrible customer service that it thinks it's fine to tell someone who just bought a $30k+ car that they just have to live with an unsafe condition because subaru doesn't see fit to fix it.
I have owned over 20+ cars ranging from 4runners, s2000, to lancer evo. My 2013 outback is by far the hardest car to steer on the highway. It wanders to both directions at highway speeds and its difficult to correct it back to center. Some owners have been accused of driving drunk in a outback, subaru needs to fix this before loosing your most loyal owners!many 2012 2013 outback owners have been calling this issue stiff, heavy, hard, not return to center steering. Here are my observations after some research:-2013+ new fb25 engine 2nd gen cvt returned suspension -i also own a 2014 forester with electric steering (drives normal), outback has hydraulic steering-i test drove couple other 2013 outback 2.5i same firm steering-i test drove a 2013 outback 3.6r (steering feels normal much softer)-check steering effort should not have more than 6.6 lb (measured with scale)-some owners had success readjusting their gearbox backlash to less than 3 lbs go to: http://www.subaruoutback.org/forums/104-gen-4-2010-present/31638-ob-lane-wandering-122.html-on page 114 there are 3 picture attachments posted by j delman -steering column recall for 2013 legacy/outbacks manufactured from 2012 feb15-jun15 (i don't think this will fix the wandering issue)
Vehicle drifts at highway speeds, regardless of how diligent you are it will start drifting off, and requires constant correction.
Vehicle tracking issues same or similar to all the other complaints about this issue.the vehicle wanders from side-to-side at speeds of 40-70 mph requiring constant correction.it sometimes seems that it takes more effort (only slightly) than should be required to get it to correct at first but then goes quickly and easily.i noticed it the first time i had it on the highway and it has been the same ever since, 10 months later.
2013 subaru outback. Consumer writes in regards to poor quality made tie downs in cargo area of vehicle.the consumer stated when he took the vehicle for its 7500 mile service, he showed the service representative the broken tie down. The consumer stated it broke, when he tied his 50lb dog to it. Theservice representative stated they would not replace it, because it was not designed to handle the tremendous stress of a 50lb dog. After some discussion, the consumer should the representative where he could easily break the tie down with his hand. The consumer was informed the tie downs were only designed to hold a net put over groceries to keep them from sliding, certainly not for anything of substantial weight or stress.
Backup camera gets blocked completely by a large "connected to mobile phone" message box when in reverse after recently starting car.can happen when you're half way in the road and should be fixed.
Driver's door will not open from the inside or outside during sub-freezing temperatures. Front passenger door and rear doors are not affected and operate as designed.the danger, of course, is not being able to exit the vehicle when safety requires an exit. Cycling the power locks does not correct the problem. Have not tried the back-up metal key that fits the exterior lock only. Driver's door will either not open at all or may open only 3" or so. If it does open 3", then repeated attempts may cause it to fully open.
Rear center brake light leaks every time it sprinkles and rains causing water to pour into the rear compartment of the vehicle as well as causing rust in the tailgate and other areas. Also causing moisture and mold in the car.
Vehicle does not handle well on the highway/interstate.seems to drift and wander.i have driven many vehicles and this is the first vehicle that i have owned that i have had this experience with.i purchased my first 2013 that wasn't what i wanted so they ordered the same vehicle withe everything i wanted.both of these outbacks did the very same things since day one. On a non-windy day it is if a drunk driver is driving, always having to correct the steering.on a windy day it is near impossible to stay in your own lane properly.
Excessive oil usage, regularly occurswithin 6000 miles of oil change burns one quart of synthetic engine oil.also note bushing in drivers side lower control arm has failed as of 50,000.
Vehicle suspension does not control vehicle during freeway speed driving.vehicle experiences large left-right sway motions on wavy pavement at freeway speeds and large uncontrolled vehicle motions up-down at freeway speeds.vehicle is hard to control during occurrences and needs constant steering corrections as result of large suspension motions.also due to the poorly damped suspension, braking distances are long.car does not slow down as expected, especially when vehicle is undergoing a large suspension articulation.several months ago, my vehicle was initially taken to dealership to verify problem, but, dealership mechanic said vehicle behaves w/ in spec and like other vehicles.i recently took my vehicle in for another issue, but, received a loaner vehicle identical to my vehicle.the loaner vehicle does not respond in the same manner as my vehicle.loaner vehicle exhibits well damped suspension control and negligible body motions.braking distances are much better on the loaner vehicle largely due to the well damped suspension.the loaner vehicle is significantly easier to drive than my vehicle.my vehicle is still currently at the dealership being reviewed by subaru of america's technical advisor.
Driving at highway speeds, the vehicle seems to drift back and forth in the lane, forcing the driver to continually make steering corrections, never driving in a completely straight line.this has happened since the vehicle was purchased new.
When i make a hard right turn, such as pulling out into the near lane or parking, my front passenger tire comes in contact with my fender well- specifically the body molding and violently.when measuring my hub (center) to hub (center), the passenger side of the car is a full .5 inch closer than the driver side.you can also measure the distance between the front tire to fender well and see that the passenger side is closer to the back of the fender well than the driver side.i notified west houston subaru in late dec. 2012 of the problem so they checked the alignment & measured the aforementioned hub/tire/fender distances.they acknowledged a discrepancy between the driver and passenger side; said they would contact subaru of america (soa) and follow up... Unfortunately i had to contact them back... Then it was suggested i contact soa myself so i did on january 8, 2013.at this time soa nor the dealership is willing to address my problem however many people in the www.subaruoutback.org forum are describing the exact same problem.[xxx] from soa has told me they are waiting for something but it is not clear... In the meantime i continue to drive my 3 year old son and wife in a car whose tire impacts the body of the car!!this is unacceptable!!please help me!information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).8tr
Vehicle wanders at hiway speeds requiring constant correction. Will not drive a straight path without veering off. Very unstable and unpredictable. Dealership claims vehicle is within specifications. I am not the only one with this issue. As of now manufacturer has not acknowledged issue and there is no effective solution.this is a link to a forum where many other owners of the same vehicle are making the same complaints. Http://www.subaruoutback.org/forums/104-gen-4-2010-present/31638-ob-lane-wandering.html.
The subaru cannot hold the road and veers within the lane almost creating accidents while driving down the highway. The dealer was notified three weeks after purchasing the car that a problem existed. The car was taken into the dealer and the service manager drove the car and agreed that there was a problem. The problem was hypothesized to be due to the rear suspension system. Subaru was notified because the car is under warranty and the problem may be a design flaw, but the request was denied to have the problem resolved. I personally notified subaru and filed a complaint, but once again they will not acknowledge a problem. The car is unsafe and its constant wandering motion is imminent for an accident. It is a serious problem that needs action.
Vehicle sways and drifts in lane on non-windy day.windy days made if impossible to stay in lane properly.50+ mph speeds seemed to be where/when affected.i later traded this vehicle in on another outback with more options.that outback does the very same thing.it is as if a drunk driver is behind the wheel.

Your mandate for the use of tpms is another example of government good intentions resulting in little benefit and unnecessary cost to consumers.i want to run winter tires on our subaru and planned to purchase the tires on wheels equipped with tpms sensors.however, the only way to re-set the sensors is to take the car to the subaru dealer and pay $90 in the fall when the winter set goes on and to pay another $90 in the spring when the all-season tire go back on the car.the winter tires are expected to add a significant margin of safety in snow/ice conditions.the annual cost of re-setting the tpms sensor will likely keep me from running winter tires.what is the benefit of having a tpms system that cannot be easily re-set by the vehicle owner?
The contact owns a 2013 subaru outback. While driving approximately 30 mph in inclement weather, the vehicle began to slide while driving downhill. The contact attempted to control the steering, but it would not move. The vehicle did not respond and struck a delineator post, slid in the opposite direction towards a concrete wall, and suddenly stopped. A police report was filed. There were no injuries. The manufacturer was not notified. The approximate failure mileage was 37,000.
The backup camera began to malfunction (not work) intermittently until it stopped working altogether.
I have noticed many complaints and personally have, s non working horn and s non opening gas compartment in my subaru.i believe the non functioning horn presents a safety hazard in all the subaru models who have it/ which through research are many. No consumer should be required to correct a defect thst is in fact present in subaru vehicles through no ear and rear or cause of the consumer. I expect this to be repaired via recall . Also it is known that the gas compartment does not open in vehicles as well- through no cause by the consumer.

The lights on my dash board came on and stayed on. Took the vehicle to subaru and they said the catalytic converter need to be replaced. Estimate cost for parts and labor is $1500.00.
I have one of the surraus that have the oil consumpion problem.have had 2 oilconsumpion test at 2 different subaru dealers and have proved that they overfilled the oil into my car.how do i get a fair test.why isn't this problem a safety recall? the problem affects the oil rings, pistons and small block of engine.oil is being wasted from this problem across the us. My car loss so much value because of this i can't sell it.problem will in time cause problems when driving.help
I was driving down a 2 lane highway, when i heard a loud sound like a shotgun and my sunroof exploded, completely shattered, for no reason.
I was changing a flat tire with the jack provided by subaru.i was on a flat surface on asphalt.the jack collapsed under the weight of the car while i was changing the tire, causing the car to crash to the ground. The jack collapsed when the metal threaded bar int eh middle of the jack started to bend. Please see the pictures of the jack and of the surface i was on (it shows it with the spare tire installed, which was done only with the help of roadside assistance because i needed their jack to complete the task).
Moonroof exploded.2013 subaru outback.occured on july 31, 2019 at approx 7:30 pm.it had been overcast all day, with high temp 75.driving along hwy 89a at 65 miles an hour.one car ahead of me, about 6 car lengths ahead. Straight section of the highway. I saw no rocks, the car ahead was in the middle of the lane, not going off to edge where there might have been debris.the outside temp at that time read 72 on my car. I heard an exploding sound.pulled over asap.the glass of the moonroof was shattered and still crackling.large opening in the middle of the glass with surrounding glass sloped upward towards the hole.i saw no rock or any other debris besides the broken glass.the sliding upholstered sunroof prevented broken glass from falling into the car.
When in reverse, the rear camera displays on the screen as it should. The problem occurs when the system connect via bluetooth to a mobile device, the rear camera view is blocked by a large notification window reporting that the connection has been made to the mobile device. This obstructs the view. The timing of this process often occurs just as one has started backing up since it takes 30-60ish seconds to get situated and then start reversing and it also take about this much time for the bluetooth connection to establish itself. A solution could be to a) not display other notifications when the backup camera is on the display, or b) make the notification not obscure as much of the camera view.
My sunroof shattered while driving on the highway under normal conditions, and for unknown reasons.
Driving down the highway at ~60mph, the sunroof shattered, exploding in an outward/upward pattern from the center. There were no vehicles in proximity to mine, to throw a rock or otherwise cause the incident. The weather was very hot or cold. Occurred yesterday. 2013 subaru outback.
The contact owns a 2013 subaru outback. The contact stated that while the vehicle in the driveway, it accelerated without warning and crashed into the garage door. The air bags failed to deploy. The contact sustained head injuries, but did not require medical attention. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 8,000.
The contact owns a 2013 subaru outback. The contact stated that while driving approximately 15 mph, the vehicle failed to respond upon engagement of the accelerator pedal. The engine was turned off and after being restarted, the vehicle resumed normally however, the failure recurred six times. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for diagnosis but the technician was unable to duplicate the failure. The dealer offered to replace the throttle body at no expense to the contact. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the defect. The approximate failure mileage was 2,088.
The contact owns a 2013 subaru outback.
Cruise control bug. If i decrease my speed by 3 or more mph in rapid succession, the cruise control resets to the original speed, i.e. The cruise control speed changes from 60 to 59 to 58 to 57 to 56 to 60. This seems like a dangerous bug since it causes unintended acceleration. I have a video that i can share for documentation.
The contact owns a 2013 subaru outback. The contact stated that while depressing the brakes, the engine rpms increased as the vehicle suddenly accelerated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 28,000. The vin was not available.
The contact owns a 2013 subaru outback. The contact stated that while braking to a stop, the engine rpms increased excessively as the vehicle suddenly accelerated without warning. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure and current mileage was 12,000. The vin was not available.
I am initiating this complaint because the recall for the below specified problem remains uncompleted, when in fact it has been fixed and remains unproblematic. Moreover, i have repaired the recall problem regarding the windshield wiper motor on my vehicle, myself, with my own money, with parts supplied by the subaru dealer. Please clear the status of the recall notice to reflect completed repairs. Consider this letter an affidavit confirming that, i as the owner, have done the repairs for which i am completely within legal right to perform onthe above mentioned vehicle.
The contact owns a 2013 subaru outback. The contact stated while driving 65 mph she heard a loud noise and the glass shattered all over the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the technician replaced the sunroof but was unable to determine what caused the failure to occur. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 24,000.
The contact owns a 2013 subaru outback. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 70 mph, the moon roof exploded. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where the failure was undetermined. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximately mileage was 31,000.
The contact owns a 2013 subaru outback. When the front windshield wipers were activated, the wipers failed to operate. The failure recurred intermittently. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that the vin was included in nhtsa campaign number: 16v694000 (visibility). The part to do the repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The failure mileage was approximately 45,000. Parts distribution disconnect.
My sunroof shattered while driving on the highway under normal conditions, and for unknown reasons.
2013 subaru outback front wiper motor caught fire while vehicle was in motion.just prior to fire, wipers had been activated but would not return to home or stop when turned to off position.vehicle was purchased new in october 2012.root cause of wiper motor as determined by subaru dealer shop.subaru claims this is unrelated to prior recall for wiper motors wvw32 which had been extended to 2012 models.
While driving the cover of the sunglass holder popped open. The outback has a sunglass holder located right below the center rear view mirror. There are two tiny clips that hold the cover of this this holder closed. The clips have failed and the cover remains open. This may seem like a trivial problem, but it obstructs part of the mirror. There are many complaints on this condition. If you do a google search on <subaru "sunglass holder" problem>, you will find pages of complaints for the outback, legacy and forester models.i am not sure what will happen when i flip the mirror to night mode, but i think it will obliterate the view entirely. Examples can be seen at: http://www.subaruoutback.org/forums/66-problems-maintenance/79345-2013-sunglass-holder-not-working.html
I have a 2013 subaru outback purchased certified pre-owned from subaru dealership in sacramento in april 2014. The front windshield has cracked three times in less than two years.i've replaced it twice, all paid out of pocket. While there appears to be a point where the crack starts, if a rock or debris hit the window it wasn't observed or heard. All cracks have occurred on the outside edge of the window and splinter inward.here is the history of the damage:october 8, 2015 - replaced cracked windshield (pd $324.87)june 15, 2016 - replaced cracked windshield (pd $326.80)august 7, 2017 - new crack appeared while driving out of costco parking lot (began investigating issue)august 14, 2017 - another crack appeared while leaving public parking lot in downtown sacramentoi have yet to replace the current damaged windshield. I visited the dealership where i purchased the vehicle this afternoon and spoke to the service manager. I was told that they couldn't do anything about it and to contact their customer dealer services number (office in new jersey).
The contact owns a 2013 subaru outback. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 16v694000 (visibility) however, the part to do the repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was notified of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.
The contact owns a 2013 subaru outback. The contact stated while his wife was driving 75 mph, the sunroof exploded, and the glass shattered onto the shade guard. The contact stated that his wife veered to the side of the road, where she inspected the vehicle but could not determine the cause of the failure. The contact stated that his wife was able to drive to her destination. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The dealer and manufacturer were not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 134,900.
The contact owns a 2013 subaru outback. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked inside the garage, a crack formed on the upper passenger's side of the windshield. The contact stated that he checked the security footage around his home where the vehicle was parked and saw no evidence of an impact to the windshield. The contact stated the crack impaired his visibility while driving. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer were notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 116,000.
Alloy wheels failure. The wheels have catastrophic failure (large crack and hole in center of rim) while driving. Vehicle was in motion and there were no pot holes or debris in highway. Location: exit 1, us 7 in norwalk connecticut. Date/time: august 23, 2019 @ 6:00pm in full daylight.
Rear wheel bearing failures.both replaced at 89,967 mi.dealer advises there is some risk if one drove on a long drive, that overheating could allow entire wheel to fall off.sound is noticeable over 40 mph so most people would get suspicious and ask a mechanic.
