Takara recall. I do not feel that my car is not being taken care of in a timely manner. I was told today that it may take several months to get the part in to do the recall for the passenger airbag. Most the time there are small children in my car, and most the time a passenger in the passenger seat.

I received a notice from subaru that there is a recall on my passenger side front airbag and that i am not to have a passenger in the front until the part is available, which they say should be available by december 2017. I need to use this car to its full passenger capacity and feel that this is an unreasonable solution to this defect.subaru should provide me with a replacement vehicle until they can fix my car.

Traffic stopped abruptly and my car (subaru outback) came to a stop. I was rear-ended by a semi (speed unknown but did significant damage to my vehicle) that pushed me into the vehicle in front of me. The vehicle in front of me was then pushed into another vehicle. The vehicle directly in front of me (ford free star)had its air bag deploy.my air bag did not deploy and my head ended up hitting the steering wheel. I was diagnosed with a concussion.i am wondering if my air bag should have deployed in this type of situation?

Takata recall this vehicle has been in a auto shop since 12/7/16 and after diagnostics the mechanic is still unable to repair. The airbag light is still on. Both side curtain air bags, both side impact sensors, and the air bag module were replaced. The codes are f2-side sensor bus lh communication error. Ea-side sensor bus rh communication. 41-side air bag rh failure. 27 ods communication error. Cannot clear any codes still.then installed test harnesses at air bag control module and ods and right seat air bag module. Performed ohm test - need to start with ods and both side airbag modules.still did not clear air bag light. So the car is unsafe to drive. Please inspect this vehicle asap this is costing a fortune.i do not know how to upload any thing or i would try.

Takata recall.no failure as of this date.however, subaru is taking an unreasonable amount of time to repair the car.as you know, we cannot transport a passenger in the front seat rendering the car inoperable for the activities for which it was designed.subaru may not be directly responsible for the takata product issue, but they need to be accountable for choosing takata for their cars.

I called the same day i received a recall notice for the passenger-side airbag for my car and my subaru dealership will not be able to fix this issue for over 5 months. Given the essential nature of this recall, this should not be something that we should have to live with for such a long time, subaru should be required to provide this service in a much timelier manner for life and death fixes like a severe airbag defect.

The failure mileage was 12,000.

Passenger airbag "not working" light came on.took it to dealer where i purchased the vehicle, was informed that although 2012 subaru outbacks had been recalled in texas, they were not recalled in oklahoma due to lesser humidity conditions.paid nearly $500 to have wires which had come unplugged under console plugged back together.this took around 7 hours to get accomplished.at least 1/2 of this time was shown as "diagnostic."the "passenger airbag light and intermittant beeper remained on constantly, whether the seat was occupied or not, and whether vehicle was running, moving, or at rest, turned off.

My subaru was hit head on driver's side by another car going 35-40 mph.my subaru's airbags did not deploy.extensive damage in 13k range to frame and left front of car. I had extensive damage to right hand and shoulder in attempt to brace myself. Other car's airbags deployed. Other driver fled scene. Other car's insured, called car in, as stolen to police. Other party's insurance is denying coverage for accident to me,as driver/insured lied to police. Bodily injury of 50k requiring surgery and on-going pt..... Cold rainy morning, i started the car for the first time with no one in the passenger seat. The airbag light came on and stayed on, the passenger seatbelt light is on and car is dinging like someone in the passenger seat is not wearing a seat belt. Does not turn off when seat belt is clipped. I take it to the dealership and they say it's a bad electrostatic capacitance sensor ods. The 'part' aka replacing the whole seat is $900. Same year of subaru that they recalled this part in the impreza. Nhtsa recall no. : 15v-419

Subaru outback (2012), when stopped for 1-2 minutes, with the engine and ignition off, and the gear shift in park, on a slight incline (to check a potential safety hazard) suddenly rolled backwards as i was leaning in to retrieve my bag. I was dragged across the normally busy road, barely able to hang on (by both hands grabbing anything i could inside the car). My legs scraped on the ground violently burning though my sneaker then ankle flesh and grazed the bone badly. My legs on the road turned the 1.5 ton vehicle a few degrees as it careened under rapid acceleration reaching an estimated 8-10 mphbumping over 2 kerbs pulled me even further out of the car, but still hanging on. Luckily the open driver's door engaged with a hedge which ripped the door almost off the car and turned the car another 35 degrees or so, avoiding a violent crash into the neighbor's house. Instead the car grazed a wooden post (further slowing it) then hit a second post which brought the car to a hard stop. This pushed me out of the car onto a patch of grass, back to the car. An engineering assessment later revealed the shift-interlock had failed (involving a couple of parts) so that the gear may be shifted (or shift itself) when the engine and ignition are off with the keys still in. My injuries include ankle (on a leg with a hip replacement), ptsd (diagnosed as caused 100% by the crash) and exacerbation of multiple-sclerosis causing debilitating bouts of trigeminal neuralgia and with additional brain damage (proven by increased lesion load on mri scan). Therefore the vehicle failure on this model is also potentially dangerous to other owners of the same model car. We also researched and found one almost identical case with the same model, the same roll-in-park but far more serious injury as the driver was knocked down by the door, apparently as the car rolled over.

The check engine light comes on along with the traction control light. Also, the cruise control and brake light are flashing.i was driving on the interstate in june, 2017 when this happened.this issue first happened in 4/2017.at that time, i was on a trip hours from home driving on the highway in the rain.dealer repaired a wiring harness under the hood.this just happened again the other day.i have an appointment on 7/5/17.the stored codes are different than in 4/2017.

The low beam headlamps are constantly burning out on my 2012 subaru outback. I have replaced the bulbs several times in the past two years, approximately every 3-6 months or 3,000-6,000 miles. One side burns out right after the other. I cannot say if the headlight bulbs burn out while driving or stationary; i drive mostly in daylight then notice the outage at night.replacing the bulb involves removing the tire and having a mechanic or dealership perform the work. What should be an infrequent simple task is getting very expensive! i am primarily concerned about safety as the bulbs could easily both burn out while driving at night.

The contact owns a 2012 subaru outback. When the vehicle was taken to the dealer for a routine inspection, the mechanic discovered that all four brakes were rusted and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was taken to three other mechanics who did not indicate that the brakes needed replacing. While driving at an unknown speed, the vehicle stalled and was towed to a mechanic. The mechanic stated that someone unplugged and misplaced the wiring under the hood and the clip was fractured. The contact was informed that the clip needed to be replaced and the wires re-adjusted. The vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 44,000. Updated 9/18/14 updated 02/12/2015

In less than a year of ownership, we've had to replace four different directional/running/head lights. This is excessive, expensive, and awkward to do. (the front headlights require removal of the front tires to reach the access panel!) i know there is a class action lawsuit for this exact issue with earlier year's of outbacks.

My car often gets stuck with the parking brake on and i cannot move the car forward or backward.most times i have a carload of groceries and need to get them to the freezer or refrigerator.computer engine analysis......abs c0054 brake switch on malfunction c0057 ecm control...... Epb c0252 motor malfunction detail code 50a0 ..... C0234 vdc failure detail code c111..... C0242 power supply voltage failure detail code. I have replaced brakes, replaced tires, checked fluid, checked fuses, etc.

While driving with cruise control engaged, suddenly the cruise control disengaged, the brake warning light and the abs warning light came on.the required repair was only the forward oxygen sensor, a non-emergency repair.yet cruise control and abs were disabled, abs being an important safety feature. I was told subaru has purposely programed the car this way.not only was i unable to make a decision as to the critical nature of the actual repair but had an important safety feature disabled unnecessarily.

In early december of 2011 my wife and i purchased a 2012 subaru outback with a 4 cylinder engine, cvt transmission.we had to wait a day for our outback because it was being repaired do to a brake system recall.ever since purchasing the outback we have had a serious issue when using the paddle shifters to slow down for a stop.when the tach slows to about 1100 rpm in first or second gear the engine then accelerates to up to 2500 rpm, slowing down and then speeding up again then repeating the cycle over even if you apply the brakes.sometimes it would just run at 2500 rpm until you braked to a stop.i took the outback to our dealer and the subaru service advisor was very surprised when i drove it to demonstrate the very serious issue.it did exactly as i have described and even stayed at 2500 rpm.the service advisor and who i presume was the overall manager of the dealership took it for a drive without me.when they returned i was told that the way it operated was the way it was supposed to operate because of the engine needing to be more environmentally friendly.i stated i did not really believe that excuse and left. Since that first visit, the outback has started doing the very serious acceleration issue also in automatic drive at low speeds. I returned on july 19, 2012 to get my first service done.i left the car for the service and tested an exact (except for color) 2012 outback.this outback had none of the very serious acceleration issues that my outback has.when returning to pickup my outback i told the service advisor of this outcome and he stated i would have to contact subaru of america to elevate the issue.respond as soon as possible as to where i can take the outback for repair of this very serious acceleration issue. My wife and i will be traveling via the outback very soon and need this very serious issue resolved before we leave.

Was driving on highway when lights on dash started flashing on & off, cruise, brake, check engine, the temperature light was flashing blue & red. I pulled over to make sure emergency brake was off. Turned car off and on and checked gas cap was tight as i had googled why it might be flashing. I continued for another mile and engine started making clicking noise when i pressed gas. I pulled over and stopped, car lights were still flashing and it began to smoke under hood. Smoke started coming through air conditioning vents and we got out immediately and engine caught fire.

The rear 3rd high brake light leaks every time it rains.this happens both when the car is stationary or moving.it has been doing this every time that it rains for about the last 6 months.i have seen numerous complaints on forums for the same problem.

The contact was driving a 2012 subaru outback company vehicle. While driving various speeds, the vehicle hesitated to stop when the brake pedal was depressed. The contact stated that all the warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to fitzgerald subaru (11407 rockville pike, rockville, md 20852, (301) 230-9000) where it was diagnosed that the driver and passenger side knock sensors and the passenger side brake light needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission body and harness needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired again, but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not notified of the failures. The approximate failure mileage was 73,763.

I was driving into work on the morning of 3/3/14 when i notice a smoke/burning odor. I discounted it but kept alert waiting for a engine light to come on. It became evident that it was from my outback. I got the car parked. Shortly after flames erupted from underneath the hood. I was able to reach a fire extinguisher and put the fire out. Based on conversations with fire department and insurance investigators it appears that the source was from wind shield wiper motor.

Drivingon interstate 95 the engine caught on fire and very quickly engolfed the entire car - bumper to bumper.

Vehicle lights (abs, check engine, cruise, etc) remain on or blinking at all times.

The contact owns a 2012 subaru outback. While driving 35 mph, the cruise control, brake system, check engine, and oil temperature warning indicators illuminated. The contact stated that the failure only occurred when the vehicle was in motion. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing or repairs. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vin was not available. The failure mileage was approximately 136,000.

Battery drain vehicle may sit 2 days and battery is dead everything is off in the vehicle and have checked the vehicle out and can not find anything wrong, but it still happens and have to charge the battery up again and again.

Car had fire at starter with lots of smoke coming from transmission and alternator .vehilce had been having shifting issues and traction from all wheel drive not working. I had vehicle taken to different dealers but no one was able to fix problem until the day car caught fire which told them which parts where at fault. My vehicle is truely a lemon, for it has been one problem after another for the past 3 years

Update i took the 2012 subaru outback to the dealer, about the key fob not working in a certain area.never had a problem with the key fob until recently. The key fob will not work in one particular area where it did work before with no problem. I took the car to the dealer for evaluation and this person said he was with subaru corporate and he informed on april 16 2013, that rfid interference does happen with these vehicles and there is nothing they can do.he informed me that though the key fob may not work in one area. This is crazy, never heard thatsubaru cars should be subject to rfid interference. Though this does happen accordingcorporate rep at the dealership.so now my subaru outback 2012 is now subjected to rfid interference and the corporate rep says there is nothing they can do. This is a safety issue.

One day driving home i noticed that the cruise control light and the parking brake lights were flashing. Along with the stability control and check engine lights being on steady. The lights stay on while driving on any road or stationary. Unhooking battery terminals clears the lights from anywhere between a couple hours to several weeks. I have done research and seen that this is a common issue with these vehicles and nothing that is done fixes it.

While driving on the higway suddenly the check engine light was blinking as well as the abs light,,control light and brake light were also blinking. I looked to see if tere was a recall notice for this problem an currently there are none. However in looking at complaints listed someone else had the exact problem and it appears to involve the harness

I bought this card at the end of march and only for one week it registered the car got fired and burnedwhile driving last friday around 10pm. When i checked the vin#. This car has over 16 recalls

Radio frequency interference is affecting the security system on the car. Imagine if the rfid interference could affect steering and braking controls, this is just the start.the key fab does not work in certain area, and you have to manually unlock the car which sets off the security system. We have tried two different key fabs and they work in many areas but when standing right next to the car in a certain area the doors will not unlock, and or lock. This is a safety issue this seriously needs to be addressed with subaru. We are taking the car to the dealership to have the keys reprogrammed, but it is very worrisome to know that rfid interference is affecting the security feature on the car which becomes a safety issue, if the keys do not work, and you are stranded outside this is not safe. The security feature was built in during production from subaru.this could lead to another massive recall like toyota, subaru engineers need to ensure measures are in place as not to allow rfid interference happen in their vehicles. The dealer has not encountered this issue. We will see if this gets fixed.

The contact owns a 2012 subaru outback. The contact stated while at a standstill while attempting to start the vehicle, the contact could not remove the key from the ignition and was unable to unlock front driver's side door. After activating the horn for approximately 10 seconds, the key was able to be removed from the ignition. The vehicle was towed to metrowest subaru (948 worcester st, natick, ma 01760, (508)651-2000) where it was not diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and the contact was advised to bring the vehicle the dealer for repairs. The failure mileage was approximately 56,000.

Vehicle stopped cruise control & flashed brakes & no traction control unexpectedly. Came close to a wreck shutting the vehicle down on the side of the road hitting various tire recaps & debris on the side. Of the road. Not told that this is a regular occurrence with this vehicle.

Vehicle rear ended vehicle in front because of brake failure/potential acceleration at approximately 35mph. This happened in rainy conditions, which my wife had noticed many weeks before. Subsequently, we found these recalls: and lawsuithttps://cars.usnews.com/cars-trucks/subaru/outback/2012/reliabilityhttps://www.classaction.org/news/class-action-claims-subaru-concealed-sudden-acceleration-defect-in-forester-legacy-outback-models#:~:text=new%20jersey-,subaru%20of%20america%2c%20inc.,from%20a%20sudden%20acceleration%20defect.

My 2012 subaru is having neurological problems - all dash lights come on: it happens randomly when driving overbridges or speed bumps. Started on 8/8/16 when car bogged down and died while driving down hwy. 360. I took it to my regular subaru authorized repair place ' christian brothers on sublet rd. In arlington.the diagnosis was broken egr(exhaust gas recirculation) system. I happened again & i took it back. The final repair for that problem was 'replace mass flow sensor & major fuel induction service. The dash lights continued to come on but the car didn't bog down anymore.i took it to autozone who ran the free diagnostic. So i took it back to christian brothers.they charged me $99 to run a more detailed diagnostic & still said i need to replace the catalytic converter. There was no test of the emissions other than the computer diagnostic.i waited a long time & the first code that came up was for catalytic converter. I suspected that they just disconnected the battery to reset the lights) the next time i took it hiley subaru 4/5/17 (for 60 k inspection and oil change date). I asked them about the dash light problem. The dash lights were not on that day because i had learned to disconnect the battery but they mentioned that the 2012 outback research indicated that 'repositioning the brake line' might be the problem because of occurrences happening when crossing bridges.they did that, but the problem continued ' not every time i crossed the bridges, though. I took it to 5 star subaru for the 90 k inspection 4/10/18 and mentioned the neurological problems.they insisted that the problem was the catalytic converter because of the computer diagnostic. Neither dealership would guarantee that replacing the catalytic converter will fix this problem.the problem persists but there is no real evidence of a problem with the emissions.

When the brakes are applied and the car comes to a stop light or stop sign, the engine shuts off ('stalls when idling or slowing down').the vehicle then must be put into 'park' mode in order to re-start.this occurs nearly everyday of the week, and has created many, many dangerous situations for us and the drivers around us.we took the vehicle to the dealership in may concerning this issue, and they stated that they had not heard of this problem, and that nothing was wrong with the vehicle.we took the vehicle in for service again this week, and the dealership mentioned that a technical service bulletin had been issued for this problem.the tsb was apparently issued in jan 2014, but customers were not notified in spite of the fact that the defect poses dire saftey risks.we are bewildered given that this item is clearly a recall-worthy defect that places the vehicle owner, and the cars around them, in foreseeable and considerable danger.we are very concerned that other customers are also being told by the dealership and manufacturer that there is 'nothing wrong with their vehicle' in spite of the tsb issued in jan '14.a cynical person might conclude that an effort is being made to obfuscate this safety defect until customer's warranties run out.similarly, the manufacturers tsb language appears to obfuscate the defect with euphemistic language.to be clear --- the vehicle shuts off in the middle of the road when slowing down for a stop light or stop sign.it would appear that an effort is being made to avoid a recall.according to the tsb, subaru modified production in october 2013 to account for and cure this safety issue.again, customers ho were sold vehicles with the safety defect hav not been notified.

We were never notified of a extended warranty on the cvt of our outback. We took it to subaru dealerships for maintance and they failed to tell us about the cvt going bad causing damage to the transmission. When we contacted subaru corporate they told us there was nothing they could do. Now we have had the car looked at when it was under the mileage because it was showing signs of the cvt going bad and the dealership was negligent in letting us know of the problem. Now we feel our vehicle is unsafe to drive and subaru is not willing to fix the problem they knew about. When we fill our tank up at the gas station the break, traction, cruise control lights will blink and the cruise control will stop working while the lights are blinking. We took the car to derrel waltrup dealership in nashvillle tennessee, subaru of nashville and subaru of gallitan tn. All three dealerships ageed that the issue with our car is due to the cvt warrenty issue. We are the only owners of this subaru and have taken great care of it. We want subaru to stand behind their product and fix the defect so that we can continue to be safe in our car.

Engine locked up travelling 80 mph on the highway.the engine had 90,000 miles on it and it was fully serviced at 88,000 miles by a dealership.notes from the dealership service department: 'motor came apart at high rev speed, 1 piston cracked, 1 piston gone. Excessive metal scattered through complete engine and intake manifold'"the entire motor (block, heads, valves, camshafts, intake manifold, etc.) will need to be replaced due to metal debris throughout motor."

Coolant light then check engine light on. After driving 2 1/2 hours coolant appeared to be leaking so filled coolant to top with water.. 12 minutes later, while driving, lights back on/engine rev/engine dies/ smoke. Lifted hood/many flames from center /slammed hood shut and ran far away. Several small explosions as car burned. Voluntary fire dept. Finally arrived but car almost totally gone. Only back tires left usable.

While on a 200 mile trip on rural interstate the thermostat failed causing head gasket to blow and engine to overheat.no check engine warning light was displayed. Suddenly all control panel warning lights began to flash. All coolant was expelled from radiator.vehicle has less than 100k miles. By shear luck i was at anexit with a subaru dealer near by.have attached repair report from subaru dealer.

Vehicle shudders and stalls when braking/decelerating. Engine shuts off completely and abruptly with little time to react. I have 128,000 miles on the vehicle. Mechanics do not know what exaclt is causing the problem.

My subaru outback (2012) is stalling when i normally or a little harder use the brake.i have to roll in and stop very slowly. Sometimes it's even stallwhen i'm going out of my driveway in reverse or just starting up at a green light. It's stalling every day for the las 3 weeks. (today is, february 23, 2017).

The vehicle stalls completely upon slowing down.this occurs frequently at stop signs, lights and while crossing a major road and waiting halfway across to join the flow of traffic.subaru dealer says it is a defective torque converter but no longer covered by the cvt warranty extension.this is extremely dangerous and should be fixed at no cost to vehicle owner.

Lights on the dashboard are on all the time brakes traction abs (anti brake system)about the same time my cruise control stopped working

The contact owns a 2012 subaru outback. The contact stated while driving 10 mph, the vehicle loss motive power without warning while the accelerator pedal was depressed. Additionally, there was also a clunking sound coming from the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to subaru of san bernardino (645 auto center dr s, san bernardino, ca 92408, (909) 571-5480) and the contact was informed that the vehicle worked as designed. The vehicle was also taken to subaru of ontario (1195 auto center dr, ontario, ca 91761, (909) 487-8325) to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the transmission and torque converter needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and offered to assist with the repair cost. The failure mileage was 87,000.

5 days after 120k mile dealer service (all work is done by subaru dealer where we purchased) more dash lights than what sully sullenbeger had to content with.occurred while sitting in traffic in 90 degree heat (with a 6 month old in the car).drove it 35 miles to get it to the dealer.$2200 estimate to replace 2 head gaskets.dealer is taking $350 off.worth talking to subaru corp about added compensation for a know defect?i see the same issue reported on line shortly after the 100k or 120k mile dealer check up.

My well-maintained subaru outback limited with 102,773 miles overheated and blew a head gasket out of the blue.just had the major 100k mile preventive maintenance done too.the extended warranty just expired at 100k and the dealer says it will be over $3k to repair.apparently this is a common problem with subarus that they have faulty head gaskets that fail between 80-120k miles. Very disappointed with subaru quality with such a major issue at half life of my otherwise reliable vehicle!

Engine shudders then shuts off when stopping. Frequently occurs when coming to a stop on a curved road near my home.very concerned about being rear-ended.i have to throw the car in park, restart and throw it back in drive.dealer replaced oil solenoid valve for $350 and it didn't fix the problem.now they want over $1500 to replace the torque converter.they say it is a known problem and i had until july 2018 under an extended warranty to take care of it.i was never notified.i fear spending another $1500 will not fix the problem.i owe another year of payments on this vehicle and i don't feel safe driving the subaru.mileage is around 155,000.

The contact owns a 2012 subaru outback. The contact stated while driving approximately 35 mph and releasing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was restarted. The vehicle was taken to dewey griffin subaru (1800 iowa st, bellingham, wa 98229, (360) 734-8700) but was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 155,000. The vin was not available.

Vehicle shakes and shutters when braking at higher speeds before coming to a stop. Stalls out often when approaching stop signs and red lights.

The vehicle stalls and abruptly stops. This is apparently a known problem with this car, but the dealership is demanding $1300 to fix it since i'm out of the warranty period. This should not be just a extended warranty - this is a safety issue: the vehicle stalls in traffic. It cannot be driven in this condition. Today it stalled in the middle of a highway intersection where i was turning. I had a semi truck barrelling down at me on an icy road while i desperately tried to restart the car and get out of the intersection. The semi swerved and barely missed me. These cars should be recalled!

Engine unexpectedly stalls when stopping.very dangerous situation caused at stoplight because of stalling.

At times, i have been experiencing the engine shutting off when i come to a complete stop. It kind of shudders first and then just dies. If i'm able to roll through the stop, it doesn't die, but when i come to a complete stop, sometimes it just dies. I have to quickly put it in park or neutral and start it again. This could be very dangerous with people behind me not expecting that long of a stop! i do a lot of driving in town and this happens when stopping at stop signs. It is unknown to me at this point as to what is causing the problem.

Vehicle stalls at red lights or stop signs. It also hesitates on acceleration. This is a very dangerous situation when having to restart the vehicle in heavy traffic.

The contact owns a 2012 subaru outback. While the vehicle was idling at a red light or an intersection, it would stall intermittently without warning. When the vehicle was powered off and restarted, it operated normally. The failure recurred numerous times. The vehicle was taken to tacoma subaru (located at 3838 s tacoma way, tacoma, wa 98409, (253) 473-6200) where it was diagnosed that the torque converter needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 115,000.

Engine shudders, or completely stalls at a sudden brake to stop completely. Driver must put vehicle inneutral or park to re-start the engine. ****the problem described began a year ago. Driver noticed vehicle would shudder occasionally at a complete stop. The first time that the engine completely died, driver thought it may have been due to weather. This shuddering and stalling began occurring more and more frequently in all weather conditions creating a safetyhazard. When driver notices the shudder, if the brake pedal is eased up, normal rpms return.the engine will also sometimes shudder during a tight turn as well. While testing during driving/breaking this morning driver maintaineda speed of 55 mph for 1 mile. Driver began braking the vehicle at the distance between 2 light poles (on a country road) and came to a complete stop with the vehicle straight forward. Engine died. The 2nd time this was tested, same speedsame braking distance, this time the driver was going to make a right turn,so upon braking the vehicle was turned at a 45 angle. The engine died. Warning lights: vehicle dynamics, check engine, awd, charge warning (battery) , and oil pressure. The cd player stayed on, the fan for heat/ac turned off.

For almost 1.5 years, my 2012 subaru outback is experiencing shuddering and stalls when coming to a stop resulting in the engine shutting off. It occurs randomly and i nearly got in accidents with drivers behind me having to react to the sudden, full stops.

I bought this card at the end of march and only for one week it registered the car got fired and burnedwhile driving last friday around 10pm. When i checked the vin#. This car has over 16 recalls

I was taking it for an oil change and lube.after driving on the freeway at 60-70 mph, i came off the freeway, went 2 blocks to a stoplight.as soon as i stopped, many warning lights started flashing, and became alarmed, went 3 blocks to the lube service center and some steam started coming from under the hood.the service men immediately took it in to check it out.they replaced some coolant, completed the service and told me to have it checked by a mechanic.i drove it about a mile to the nearest auto shop, a place i've taken my last 2 cars, and left it.the next day they said it was fixed, and that they had to replace the radiator and it was ready to pick up.from there i picked up the car and drove it to a friend's in a cityabout 100 miles away.i drove it the entire way on the freeway, came off the freeway, drove it about 4 blocks to my friend's house.i wen up her driveway, and as i pulled into a parking place, the warning lights again started flashing.i pulled into a parking slot and stopped it.my friend's son later went out to look under the hood with me.there was evidence of some spray under the hood, but not much.i called the dealer where i'd bought the car a month before, and he told me to have the car towed to their shop, where i'd left it with them for about 2-3 weeks.when i called about the progress, they said they didn't want to release it back to me until to was repaired.in the meantime, my friend where i was staying when i had it towed, told me she had an identical problem with her 2011 subaru outback and after replacing hoses, thermostat, water pump, tjey finally replaced her head gasket.my daughter then reminded me the same happened to her 1999 subaru outback, so i started researching the internet for similar issues.many sites, some well known said this is common with the 2.5l engine. This is a defect subaru should recall.

I purchased vehicle brand new, over the course of 4 years have had no problems until brake master went bad after 2 and a half years, oil not lasting until the next oil change and finally the head gasket. The vehicle's a/c died and was taken to the mechanic, he found the compressor had gone. We ordered a new one. Took the vehicle out the next day to return it to mechanic and in route, the vehicle began smoking profusely and died on the road 2 minutes after it began smoking. The vehicle is then towed to mechanic to find that the oil and coolant were mixing, the vehicle overheated and damaged head gasket. This make & model has also been found to have issues with "faulty brake masters & leaking oil leading to coolant and head gasket" issues. No recall, safety or advisement information has ever been sent or corresponded to us regarding this matter. There is however an open class action suit in new jersey for the issue of leaking oil and cooling issues.

3.6 engine uses 1/2 quart oil after 3000 mile oil change. Car has alway had 5w30 mobile 1 oil used in it since we had the car. Had some minor oil consumption at first but now it is becoming more common. Dealership said it cause the oil manufactures are making the oil thinner so that is causing the problem? sorry i was no not born yesterday. 2 reasons for oil consumption that i know is a oil leak or defective piston rings which subaru has had issues with on other model cars.

The contact owns a 2012 subaru outback. While driving at an unknown speed, the vehicle shuttered and stalled without warning. The vehicle was towed to mastria subaru (1255 new state hwy, raynham, ma 02767) where it was diagnosed that the engine was burning oil. The engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 145,459.

On october 16th, 2020 while driving our 2012 subaru outback on the highway, the check engine light came on.my husband and i pulled over, lifted the hood and saw steam coming from the engine near the radiator.we took the car to the subaru dealership and the tech stated both head gaskets were failing. The vehicle had 156,000 miles on it and we ended up paying over $2500 in repair costs.because of the age and mileage on the car, i did not plan to submit a repot to the nhtsa.however, i was notified by a relative today that her 2009 subaru impreza with only 68,000 miles just experienced head gasket failure and the dealership quoted her $4500 in repair.i have encouraged her to submit the issue through nhtsa for further trending purposes as i believe this may be a safety concern with subarus.

Vehicle shudders and stalls when braking hard.it will not stall on a gradual stop but will stall in any situation when stopping quickly.does not have to be a panic stop to stall, just hard braking.resulting stall means loss of power brakes and steering.have to shift into park and restart vehicle. Has no issues when running or driving.engine runs vey smooth and has been well maintained as i am the original owner.it is an ongoing issue and repeatable in every circumstance.no computer codes set for this issue.yet it happens every time there is hard braking which is every time it is driven.this is very dangerous and i am afraid to have my wife and son drive it much less myself.

Stalled when coming to a stop at an intersection. Believe to be transmission issue. Purchased a 2012 subaru outback on 8 jan 2019. The car was sole as is. While driving home, i came up to the busy intersection of russell parkway and moody road (warner robins ga) as i began to slow, the car started to buck then stalled. I was almost rear-ended by the car following me. The car on the same day stalledagain while slowing down and turning right on feagan mill road. The car following me swerved to the left to avoid a rear end impact. The car is currently parked until i can get it serviced. After research, i founded out many customers are having the same issues of driving an unsafe vehicle. I currently have 115,000 miles

Car is stalling when brakes are applied at stops. Engine hesitates when accelerating from a stop.

My car shudders and dies when braking. It doesn't even have to be a hard brake. It's very dangerous. This problem has been occurring in the last few months. It happens while i am slowing for a stop. My mechanic tells me it is related to the torque converter, which is expensive to fix. I am afraid that i will be rear-ended. With highway driving this is unbelievably dangerous. I know that subaru extended the warranty on this issue--although i only knew of this because my mechanic told me. Unfortunately my car just went over the 100,000 mile mark, so i'm unsure if subaru will cover the repair needed. I really believe this issue should prompt a recall. Someone is going to get seriously injured or die.

When braking to come to a stop at a light on a secondary road or stop sign on my back street in a straight line the engine stalls, this has even happened when i had to brake to stop for backed up traffic on the highway. This has happened at least four times in the past and again this morning. I told my dealership several times after the purchase of this vehicle i noticed idle would drop out and come back while at a stop, but i was told there was not an issue. I now read this is not true and has been an on going issue with this manufacturer for some time and is a wide spread issue with the cvt. The extended warranty offered and now expired by subaru never mentioned the possible safety issue of stalling due to a faulty cvt, but actually seemed to say this extended warranty only applied to shifting issues so i ignored it as the car shifted fine both automatically and manually as designed. I feel very misled and let down by subaru who i always thought would put the safety of their customers first, i guess not.

When i be driving, and approaching an intersection, or a stop. My car stalls out. This happens more often, when a do a quick stop.i began, noticing this condition about a few months ago,,approximately january 2020.

Since i bought this car, while driving for 15-60 minutes with the windows rolled up and depending on conditions, myself and/or another passenger will begin to feel very light headed, irritated eyes, hard to focus, and nearly pass out. It's a forced situation like being put in a choke hold or suffocated gently not just feeling relaxed or comfy. The effects last for some time depending on exposure too.we could be lively with good energy, but using the car as said will kill it. It also occurs faster the more you breathe. The only cure is fresh air. I thought it was the hvac system first, but the fan speed doesn't seem to affect it so i'd guess it's something else. My best guess is it has something to do with the rear tail gate seal not sealing right sucking in exhaust. The reason we can't readily identify a smell is probably because it's a pzev system, and it really doesn't have a typical exhaust odor.subaru refused to help and said "it smells fine". After a month of trying they finally agreed to do a ride along for just 30 minutes. After completion one said "i don't feel anymore tired than usual" and the other agreed. They also told me at one point auto nation's subaru regional rep said "you can put your mouth on the tail pipe and suck on it and you'll be fine"...in the end i just traded it in for a 2013 outback but someone else will own this car soon. This car needs a real inspection before someone actually dies from it. I'm lucky enough to have survived because prolonged use over a few weeks makes the effects worse but if driven someone who isn't very alert probably will fall asleep and crash. I almost did a few times and why i spent this summer without ac except in my tests, all bad. Again, i'm not the only person to have experienced this, other passengers have too. My new outback doesn't have this issue either. Please keep me updated.

The headlights of my outback have burned out at least 4 times. The dealer claims there is no issue with the electrical system.

The contact stated that the low beam headlight projector bulb was not shielded. When the light was illuminated, the beam appeared to be vertical which caused the driver's vision to be obscured. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis. They were unable to so and the contact was driving around with duct tape over the light to prevent glare. The manufacturer was contacted and they offered no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 4,000. The current mileage was approximately 6,000.

The low beam headlights both burned out. Subaru said the issue only affected some of the outbacks but obviously it affects mine and was not covered.

2012 subaru outback. Two separate issues. First: both high beams inoperative. Cause: defective dlr module.second: continual head light bulb failures. Left and right, high and low. No cause or cure found by our local subaru dealer. This has happened when driving on the highway at, would you believe, night.

In less than a year of ownership, we've had to replace four different directional/running/head lights. This is excessive, expensive, and awkward to do. (the front headlights require removal of the front tires to reach the access panel!) i know there is a class action lawsuit for this exact issue with earlier year's of outbacks.

The contact owns a 2012 subaru outback. The contact stated that while driving 65 mph, all the lights on the instrument panel and the headlights failed to illuminate. The driver then turned the light switch to off and all the lights on the instrument panel illuminated. The contact pulled into his driveway with the switch still turned to the off option and all of the lights illuminated. The manufacturer was notified and advised the contact to take the vehicle to the dealer. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure and current mileages were 4,100. Updated 08/01/12*ljthe subaru technicians stated the consumer ma have accidentally turned off the dashboard lights, which was located on the left side, behind the steering wheel. Updated 08/02/12

My headlights on my outback are constantly going out. I purchased this vehicle in october of 2015 and i have replaced my headlights 9 times. I live in alaska with very little day light and it is important to always have my headlights on, regardless of where i live. I have been fortunate enough to not have been pulled over for this yet but i can see it happening in the near future. Please help.

The left/right headlights, front/rear running lights and brake lights on my vehicle burn out at a very rapid rate. To date, i have replaced almost every non-led light on the outside of the car at least once. Both headlights have been replaced twice (four bulbs). Complicating matters, subaru charges over $150 do change a single headlight in their shop. The design of the vehicle requires complete disassembly of the front end to access the headlights.lights that burn out so frequently are a significant safety issue. Driving on the highway during the winter is not the time for bulbs to burn out.this is a known issue with subarus--the 2011 outback has lifetime bulb replacement. When i contacted subaru aboutmy issues, i was informed that there was no issue with the 2012 model year.these issues have happened over the life of the vehicle since i purchased it in 2011. I have selected a generic date this month below.

2012 subaru outback low beam headlight failure.our 2012 outback blows headlights constantly.they last approx. 3 to 5 months before they fail.on a long trip we lost both low beams lights at the same time and had to drive through the night with high beams and fog lights only!!! all fuses have been checked and are fine.obviously something is causing the lights to go out.this is an extremely dangerous situation that need immediate attention!!!many owners have been complaining of this for years.nhtsa please do a recall before someone gets killed because of this!!!!

In less than 4 years, i have had to replace a headlight 4 times. On the 4 cars i owned/leased prior to this vehicle, i have never had to replace a headlight ever.

Both low beam headlights went out simultaneously while driving on a dark rural road.we were told the recall did not include our auto which was made the same year as other recalled automobiles of the same make and model. However it appears the problem was not corrected properly.

High and low beam bulbs constantly burning out. I have had this car for 4 years and i replace a light build in the headlamps every 4-6 months. Usually when one goes out another will follow. Example i replaced high beam then 4 days later the low beam. Great vehicle but i have replaced more bulbs for the headlights of this car than the last 4 past owned vehicles combined. Bulbs usually burn out when going from low to high or vice versus. Dealer claims everyone with same model spanning different years have the same problem. They claim it does not matter brand of bulb. I purchased expensive bulbs with a 1 yr warranty free replacement if they burn out knowing i will only get a few months out of them. I will still have the hassle of replacing them but atleast i'm done buying them. Subaru should recall these vehicles and fix this problem. With all the airbag recalls i doubt they really care about headlights. Nhtsa please help us dealers should fix these vehicles before reselling these faulty vehicles!'

The contact owns a 2012 subaru outback. The contact stated that the bulbs in the headlamps needed to be replaced quite frequently. The vehicle was taken to miller subaru (1592 nj-38, lumberton, nj 08048) however, the contact was unsure if a diagnostic test was performed. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 175,000.

When i be driving, and approaching an intersection, or a stop. My car stalls out. This happens more often, when a do a quick stop.i began, noticing this condition about a few months ago,,approximately january 2020.

Takata recall. The contact owns a 2012 subaru outback. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign numbers: 19v009000 (air bags) and 18v626000 (parking brake). The contact called carbone subaru of troy at 518-312-4300 (located at 800 hoosick rd, troy, ny 12180) and was informed that the parts were not available. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and was not able to confirm when the parts were to become available. The contact had not experienced a failure. Vin tool confirms parts not available for 18v626000 (parking brake) and parts distribution disconnect for 19v009000 (air bags).

As many other owners have reported, i have been told that the torque converter on my 2012 subaru outback has to be replaced (at a cost of nearly $1800). This is because of the shuddering and/or stalling of the car when coming to a stop. This issue is, and has been, very inconsistent which is why i never brought it to the attention of the service department before the end of the revised warranty option provided by subaru (100,000 miles or 7/31/2018 cutoff date). My car currently has 110,000 miles on it.the problem with the way this whole matter has been dealt with by subaru is that, despite the fact i brought the vehicle in for regular service prior to the mileage/date deadlines, i was never asked if i was experiencing any of the problems related to the torque converter. Had the issue been explained to me, i would have said that i was indeed having issues and would have had the part replaced under the warranty. This sort of behavior clearly demonstrates that subaru is not "dedicated to customer satisfaction."subaru should be more proactive than reactive to dealing with the torque converter problem. In fact, subaru should replace the torque converter whenever it becomes a problem. It is absolutely shameful that subaru and the nhtsa has not done more to address the matter. I guess it is going to take someone getting injured or killed before the problem gets escalated to a point that there will be a recall or subaru voluntarily replaces the torque converter regardless of time or mileage.

Vehicle in motion traveling 65 mph on the highway, vehicle appeared to lose power, all dash lights flash, gas pedal unresponsive, coast to side of road, wait 20 minutes, car starts back up, called subaru dealership, mechanic states it is okay to try and drive, all dash lights flashing, no cruise control, drove 75 + miles before lights stop flashing, scenario repeats itself x 3 more times, lights flashing, no cruise control, take to dealership, subaru states, "computer reset", has happened once since the "reset" but the car did not completely shut down. It felt like it lost power for a secondbut came back on while on the highway.

The vehicle has experienced a shuddering feeling intermittently when coming to a stop. The issue has been ongoing and my vehicle currently has 87,000 miles, although the issue has occurred since around 50,000 miles. I have taken the vehicle in to a subaru dealer in 2017 and the issue was recreated however was not fixed since the problem is still occurring. It is my understanding that subaru issued a technical service bulletin covering more than 1.5 million vehicles for what appears to be known issue with the torque converter in the cvt transmission. However, the problem is sporadic and intermittent and every time the vehicle goes in to re-check the problem, the technicians cannot replicate it. This is very much a safety issue that should be elevated from a tsb to a recall if the issue is known. The feeling of a shuddering almost to a vehicle stall is not safe. Why subaru has not issued a full on a recall is a little concerning, especially with the several subaru forums indicating from many other owners of the same problem. I have talked to subaru of america and they were not very accommodating of the issue and said if they cant recreate the problem, then they wont fix it. Apparently the word of thousands of subaru owners is not sufficient enough.

About month ago i bought a car. It's a subaru outback 2012 with 156 000 miles. At the beginning everything was fine. Nothing seemed to be happening. December 10 we drove around santa fe, nm. At first i had stopped in some stores, spent time about 2 hours and after that decided to go to another place. And when i was driving my car again in 5 minutes it suddenly started having a strange sound and couldn't move normally, was just sharply braking on a city road. We were very close to the accident, because everyone was driving with the speed 45-50 miles. While i was driving the car kept to have the strange sound and slowed down more and more. I was lucky to find a parking space next to me on somebody's tires weels shop. I took a little break about 40 minutes to find out what happened. After that when i turned the car on it stopped having the strange sound but it couldn't move anymore! i pushed on a gas pedal many times but the car just stayed in on place and didn't move to the front or back. My vehicle was towed to the subaru service center. The next day i was calling to the subaru service center several times, and when somebody answered i was replied that "the car had an inspection but we don't know what exactly happened yet" and it should take one more day. I did one more call the next day i received an answer from subaru service center that the vehicle have a broken transmission and to fix it costs $7600. In those days i found out that the cars 2010-2015 subaru outback have recalls or extended warranty. My friend from florida have a subaru outback 2012 with 168 000 miles and he also had the same problem with a car like me on october 2018. The subaru dealership in florida fixed that power train for free. But when i told with a subaru headquarter about my affected vehicle they gave me an answer that i have on my car more than 100 000 miles and they can't help me at all.

2012 outback 2.5i limited with 93k miles stalls intermittently when coming to a complete stop.when placed in park the vehicle will start right up and runs fine.there is no hesitation or engine missing when in motion, only when coming to a full stop.yesterday it stalled 3 times during a 6 mile round trip to the post office.i am fearful that it will stall while i'm in an intersection waiting to make a left turn and am vulnerable to cross traffic when the light changes.i'm taking it in to the dealer tomorrow and hoping they will be able to fix it.after searching the internet for similar complaints, i understand that tsb 16-90-13 addresses this type of failure, apparently due to a problem with the torque converter.

The transmission (cvt) is bad (per 2 mechanics who have reviewed) makes whining noises and can cause car to stall.there are many reports of this already online.subaru extended their warranty because they know this is a problem, but indicated that they will not cover my car (2.5 months after the extended warranty.) this will cost about $5,000 to fix.this is a known problem by subaru and so the 2012 subaru outback needs to be recalled before someone get hurt, please.

Acceleration shudder in drivetrain between 50 - 60 mph on light acceleration.started around 16,000 miles.see attached letter to dealer.dealer, manufacturer did not fix.subaru support line sent me back to dealer. All they did was rotate tires and re-flash transmission software. On - going problem. Have lost all faith in subaru.

My vehicle has been stalling when coming to a stop, it starts to shudder when slowing then stalls at stop. Safety is becoming an issue when in traffic, or on highwayin stop and go. There has not been a recall for torque converter issuesor cvt transmissions just extended warranty. Unfortunately there were not issues whenthis was extended.this is on a 2012 subaru outback, with 130,000 miles

Engine stalls while pressing break pedal rapidly. Was told by the dealer that torque converter is a problem and extended warranty is available to fix this issue. My car has salvage title related to minor flooding and is not covered by this warranty.manufacturer faulty design should result i recall so all the cars are covered( like faulty air bags). Thyis is potentially more danger problem then faulty air bags and i guess subaru is waiting for causalities as result of this negligible approach.

Very low engine rpm, or complete engine quit when coming to a stop. The condition is similar to coming to a stop in a manual transmission equipped vehicle without depressing the clutch pedal. Has happened many times and is more of an annoyance until it happens when i might need to accelerate suddenly again. Subaru service bulletin # 16-90-13 design change to lock-up type torque converter pertains, but subaru has not issued a recall. Maybe they're waiting for someone to die first.

The vehicle began stalling following a hard stop and now has accelerated to the point of stalling out even with a soft braking. Very dangerous as the vehicle shuts off when traveling in traffic. Have been notified by my repair shop that the torque converter needs replaced. There are 124k on vehicle now. Subaru apparently covered this repair up to 100k miles or by june 2018 with unlimited miles. Why won't subaru cover this now? i am responsible now for a large repair that is a known safety concern by subaru that they will not take care of as there is 24k over their warranty replacement mileage. I am disappointed.

Intermittent dash lights flashing on my subaru 2012 outback, prompted me to take the car in for diagnosis.subaru is notorious for dash lights flashing when there might be an issue.brought car in but they could not find issue.flashing lights reset, but came back on.when lights flash, many other car functions cease, such as cruise control, manual gear function goes inop, etc.plus flashing lights disguise other issues that may be going on as well (such as brakes), plus very distracting in itself.historically, i am tracking subaru has had many issues with this and no rhyme or reason of what could cause these.anyhow, subaru finally said i have a power train issue, bad solenoid that is causing irregular shifting or no shifting to a higher gear.it causes a vibration in the car and concerned that the whole transmission will go out.there was a recall that extended from 60k miles to 100k just recently, but subaru said my car just missed the warrant work/recall by 14k miles which i think is quite concerning since it has been identified as an issue (recall).does the issue stop at 100k?i attached the response from subaru.

Intermittent dash lights flashing on my subaru 2012 outback, prompted me to take the car in for diagnosis. Subaru is notorious for dash lights flashing when there might be an issue. Brought car in but they could not find issue in about 3 instances.i did theflashing lights reset, but came back on. When lights flash, many other car functions cease, such as cruise control, manual gear function goes inop, etc. Plus flashing lights disguise other issues that may be going on as well (such as brakes), plus very scaryin itself. Historically, i am tracking that subaru has had many issues with this and no time or reason of what could cause these problems or even a solution from them. Subaru finally said i have cvt issue with the torque piece it cause this to slow down in the car and concerned that the whole transmission will go out decide to give them a call trying to get the issue resolve but was told i was out of the warranty!. There was a letter send to me that extended from 60k miles to 100k just recently, but subaru said my car just missed the warrant work/recall by 4k miles which i think is quite concerning since it has been identified as an issue (recall). Does the issue stop at 100k?

Vehicle stalls unexpectedly when stopping. Local mechanic states it is a transmission issue and has been reported by many owners of this model. I am just outside the extended warranty and over 110,000 miles. It started earlier when my warranty would have covered it but subaru did not make us aware of the potential problem and we didn't know what was causing this. It has caused some close calls when we suddenly have to stop in traffic. Have almost been hit from behind several times. Should be a safety recall on this problem. Has been an ongoing issue since about the middle of june and has happened almost every time we use the car lately. We are elderly and can not afford the expensive repair job.

Vehicle shakes and shutters when braking at higher speeds before coming to a stop. Stalls out often when approaching stop signs and red lights.

My outback stalls when coming to a stop. It would do it randomly but now it does it all the time. Subaru won't do anything for me except tell me how much it will cost to fix the torch converter without even checking it on their computer. I have heard of several issues with the cvt and i want to know for sure.

After 7 years of diligent care of my 2012 outback, my transmission is failing.this is a known issue in my make and model.this will cost me $7k out of pocket to replace.subaru claims to have 'quality as our highest priority', but did not address this known issue and have put the burden on their customers.this is my third subaru, and it would be nice if the company stood behind their work and supported their customers

2012 subaru outback cvt issuecar will shudder while braking from highway speeds (40 mph+) down to 10-20 mph. Car lurches, similar to a manual car dumping the clutch. In the case of a hard stop this has caused the engine to stall twice, and come close to stalling many more times. Car starts up and runs fine once placed in neutral or park.i have to be extremely conscious of how quickly i brake, as you can feel when the tcc disengages. If it does not disengage before you stop, the car stalls. This leads to possible unsafe conditions, not knowing if your car is going to stall or not at a critical moment (turning left in a busy intersection).this would have been covered by subaru's extended warranty that they offered to cover this known problem (seemingly instead of a full recall), but by the time my car exhibited these symptoms it was well past the arbitrary 100k mile mark and past the july 31st deadline (my car is at 116k miles, and this started occuring in the past two months). I drive a large amount of highway miles, and recently i do not feel safe coming to a hard stop if necessary. I do not see how a known issue that can cause the car to stall in traffic is not considered a safety issue that necessitates a recall.

2012 subaru outback with approx. 122,000 miles.the cvt transmission began rasping while under acceleration.randomly, and over a period of several days, the vehicle stalled, particularly when rapidly decelerating under braking conditions. This required the vehicle to be shifted into park or neutral and restarted.online, i discovered that there is a rather lengthy history of problems with this subaru transmission, and that subaru, apparently to avoid a recall, extended its warranty on the 2012 outback to july 31, 2018 or 100,000 miles, whichever came first.i was never notified of the warranty extension, a fact that subaru usa on july 29, 2019 tacitly acknowledge (they said they had no record that i had been notified), but subaru usa said, despite this, that the warranty date and mileage had now expired and they could do nothing for me.subaru usa also acknowledged that the estimated repair cost of $9500 was "quite high" and told me that as a "good will" gesture they were prepared to offer me $1500 credit toward the purchase of a new subaru.

In august 2018 the car began stalling randomly when coming to a stop.when we brought it to the dealer it was diagnosed with the cvt problem that prompted the extended warranty.however, the extended warranty for our 200,000 mile car had expired 7/31.the fix is almost $5,000 and subaru will not apply the extended warranty.even through they admit it is a safety concern and that the extended warranty would have applied two weeks earlier (had the problem started then), they have refused to help.

When driving on the freeway my transmission suddenly lost power it would intermittently go then stop again.i had a semi right behind me that almost ran over the top of me. As i made it to my exit it began making noise.i drove it straight into my mechanic who thoroughly inspected it and said the transmission had failed.

The car shuts off or shudders when slowing down to a stop or when accelerating.the transmissionis not working properly.

This vehicle has one owner, which is me, and the transmission, downshifts and skipsa gear when cold and almost caused an accident. People were almost injured and someone could have been killed.when the transmission is cold, and on a freeway and than exiting, and slowing down to 35 to 45 mph on exit the car transmission kicks and like someone is hitting you in the back, and skips a gear. Subaru has a problem with this car and they need to address. Took it to the dealer they reprogrammed the transmission did not work. I will be filing lemon law in my next two visits if it is not fixed.

When driving on freeway, at about 60mph, there is a noise in the engine, the speed slips for a second, the rpm screen bumps little bit and comes back.about 3 years ago, the vehicle stopped dead at the stop signal. Took it to the dealer, they did not find any code and said, bring it back if it happens again. It did not happen again, but this slipping happened end of october 2018, just 2-1/2 months after their extended warranty ended on july 31,2018 for subaru's cvt issue recall. Subaru says, they will replace cvt, but i need to pay large amount, they will write off only 2500$. This is a known issue in subaru outback 2012 and subaru is not fixing my vehicle.

Subaru outback 2012 has been stalling out when coming to a stop, especially when on an incline or at a fast stop, does not do it every time vehicle stops but does it enough to be a safety hazard. Dealership said it is due to a faulty torque converter and also told me i have to have the valve body replaced due to metal shards falling into it from the torque converter.

Situation: traveling at 60mph up a steep hill on i70 west bound in left passing lane. Cars following close, and cars in the right lane.for the first time (new car) i used the downshift paddle on the left side of the steering wheel to downshift to accelerate. I tapped it to downshift one gear. It instantly dropped to 1st gear. The engine rpms went to red line or above. The car decelerated dramatically, and i was tossed forward. I attempted to upshift using the right paddle but there was no response, and the car remained in first gear. The car behind nearly hit me. The only useful control that i had was the steering wheel (brakes or accelerator useless). Further, i assumed the brake lights were not lit. Due to the alertness of the driver behind and the drivers to my right as i slowed dramatically and got off the highway to the right shoulder, a serious accident was avoided. Dashboard lights were lit, brake light flashing, etc. Car was towed to flatirons subaru in boulder, co. There the computer data logging confirmed both my speed and the rpms at redline or above. They were unable either to reproduce this behavior, or to determine the cause. I understand that they were told by subaru that this was the first time this had been known to happen, and then told to reinitialize the "adaptive" portion of the computer, which i believe they did.overall, i was told that "this couldn't happen because there were safety locks to prevent it". When the recorded data confirmed my description, i think the mechanics were very surprised, and did try hard to understand this. I wouldn't accept the vehicle back because i am of the opinion that if you don't know why something happened, you can't be sure it won't happen again.

The contact owns a 2012 subaru outback. The contact stated that while attempting to reverse out of a parking space, the vehicle made a grinding sound but failed to engage in reverse. The contact shifted the gear shifter to neutral and had assistance from a bystander to push the vehicle out of the parking space. The vehicle was shifted into drive and operated as designed. The contact notified burlington subaru (351 shelburne rd, burlington, vt 05401) of the failure, and was informed that there was no recall related to the failure. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The contact's husband diagnosed the failure as a fractured reverse fork shift in the reverse cord and that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The failure mileage was 117,450.

I have a failing torgue converter. The car stalls out when i am coming to a complete stop. The rpms stay normal but the car stops while in gear.

The contact owns a 2012 subaru outback. While the vehicle was placed in park on an incline, the contact suddenly heard a scraping noise and noticed that the vehicle independently rolled away. The contact's wife was leaning into the vehicle and was pulled in reverse along with the vehicle. The vehicle crashed into a curb and the front driver's door struck the hedge, which slowed the vehicle down. The vehicle then crashed into a tree hedge. The contact's wife sustained an injury to the right side of her hip that required medical attention. A police report was filed. The dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was towed to an auto shop where all of the panels were repaired;the manufacturer was notified of the failure. An inspector was sent to inspect the vehicle, but no diagnostic failure codes were found and the failure could not be duplicated. The approximate failure mileage was 47,000.

The 2012 outback with an automatic transmission shifted from drive to 1st gear without moving the gear lever from drive to manual.this has occurred 10 times in 18 months, the first incident occurred about 2 months after purchasing this vehicle new.the problem has always occurred after coming to a stop at a stop sign, then, as i accelerate from the stop, the transmission goes into 1st gear and the car immediately stops accelerating because it is stuck in 1st gear.the gear lever is always in drive when this occurs, but the dash displays that the transmission is in 1st gear.to resolve it, i have moved the gear lever from drive to manual and then back to drive which puts the transmission back into drive.on one occasion, leaving a stop sign to enter a freeway ramp, the transmission went into 2nd gear.again, the gear lever was in the drive position.i immediately applied the breaks and just before coming to a complete stop on the side of the freeway on-ramp, i witnessed the "2" on the dash display change to "d" and the car was in drive again - without touching the gear lever.subaru first said that this was impossible, now they say they cannot verify it.this is a very intermittent problem and so far cannot be made to occur.this is also a potentially very dangerous problem should another driver not see that my car has suddenly stopped accelerating and collide with my vehicle.

The contact owns a 2012 subaru outback. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle hesitated while depressing the accelerator pedal, without warning. The contact initially took the vehicle to two separate independent mechanics who informed him that the transmission was defective and needed to be replaced. The contact then called subaru of spokane (423 w 3rd ave, spokane, wa 99201) and rairdon's subaru of auburn (3025 auburn way n, auburn, wa 98002) and was provided estimates for a new transmission. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 130,000.

Vehicle has been stalling/shuddering while pressing on the brakes coming to a stop, engine has shut off twice during this. No pattern has been recognized, appears to be "random". Will slow down at a stop light and right before the complete stop, the engine shudders then completely dies with no warning. All the lights pop up on the dashboard, brake/gas pedal quits working unless i put the car in park and restart the vehicle. Very dangerous as it is random and without warning... Dealership states torque converter needs to be replaced. This should be recalled and paid for by subaru

When the car is cold and just started for the first time in the morning, when exiting a freeway from 60 mph the transmission very intermittently will almost freeze and it feels like someone hit you in the back with a baseball bat.this is exiting or during the de acceleration process and it feels like someone hit you in the back with a baseball bat. This can cause whip lash and cause serious back injury and give a person a false sense of braking on exiting the highway as the transmission freezes for the split second this is very dangerous and subaru of america has not addressed this issue. From subaru of america call center told me there are several technical bulletins regarding power train issues and was not sure if any were applied to my car.took car into dealer they tried to reprogram the transmission and still have intermittent issues with the transmission locking up for a split second and shaking the whole, car, we are now afraid to drive this car because of these issues and we are afraid that we might end up going through the windshield. This is a very serious issues that only happens once in awhile and there is no way to predict, how, when or why this is happening and it is very scary to drive this car.we wish subaru would address this issue and do a recall or technical bulletin.

Vehicle stalls intermittently when coming to a stop or attempting to accelerate from a stop. This is an extremely urgent safety concern. This also seems to have caused inconsistent starting issues.i have replaced the starter and still have issues. Seems to be a torque converter problem. This issue has been reported by many owners and has not been adequately addressed by subaru with an available fix in a recall.

While in motion, the cvt transmission suddenly failed without warning. Causing the car to stop forward motion. If this had happened in traffic, it could cause a accident.this is a series safety issue.cvt transmission is a sealed unit, no serviceable parts. Car is 11k outside warranty. Only repair is 8k replacement.

The vehicle stalls when coming to a stop.if the accelerator is pushed you can avoid the stall but this is not always feasible.the sudden stall out is very unsafe as it takes putting the vehicle in park, restarting, putting in drive to mobilize the vehicle again.

Vehicle shutters and stalls when braking on a city street, especially in colder weather (i first noticed this in the winter of 2018). On sept. 13, 2020, the vehicle violently lurched forward as i pulled out on a city street at lower speeds. After this occurred, the check engine light, oil temp, traction control light, and brake light came on on the dash. Diagnostic showed a p0700 and p2764 error codes indicating a need for a valve body replacement. Service bulletin 16-107-17r indicated that when replacing the valve body a newly designed part should be used because the old part does not work as well. When i called subraru, they discouraged me from replacing the valve body with the originally designed part even if it was brand new. I do not feel safe driving this vehicle without this repair and i feel that because subraru has a newly designed valve body part to address this issue, that this issue is not the result of normal wear and tear but should be a considered a recall instead.

Engine shudders and occasionally stalls when coming to a hard stop. Problem has been diagnosed as a faulty torque converter, and is identified in subaru technical bulletin number 16-90-13r. This is a significant potential safety issue, and should be addressed by the manufacturer.

Vehicle stalled out several times while driving. Once when braking hard after a car cut in front of me and the second when stopping quickly at a stop light. The car also shutters a little when idling. The dealer says it is the torque converter. I had a $3k transmission repair last year. They said the torque converter would be $1700. The car has 178,000 miles and has regular maintenance. The dealer said it was time to make a decision about a new car. What?! i know in the past these cars would easily make it to 300k miles. This should be a recall.

My transmission failed at 120k miles.subaru reimbursed me for a replacement which failed 9k miles later.i replaced that one out of my own pocket with a used transmission with only 35k miles on it.the third transmission failed while my wife and i were in the fast lane on a major freeway.we had to navigate across traffic with absolutely zero acceleration.subaru claims that their transmissions do not put their customers in danger, but i am on my fourth transmission and the last one almost caused us to get into an accident with a tractor-trailer.

The vehicle stalls when the driver comes to a quick/hard stop. The rpm's drop, the vehicle makes a shuttering sound/motion, then the engine stops causing the driver to put the car back in park and restart the engine. This has the potential to happen anywhere but is most dangerous if it happens on a highway or in heavy traffic.

:the transmission stared acting up randomly in early february of 2017.the transmission would slam into gear while shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear, accompanied with a huge bang while the whole car would rattle for a second or so. A very scary and unsafe scenario because it felt like you were being hit from behind by another car.afterward, the car would run normally for few days before it repeats.so i took my car to rallysport engineering in costa mesa, ca on april 10 who confirmed my complaint and replaced the valve cover of the transmission.the problem appears to be solved until a month later.around june, a new transmission shifting problem was appearing and gradually getting worse.when tried to accelerate slowly while coasting between 3rd to 5th gear, the car would shudder noticeably and hesitate for a second or two before got going.this is a very scary and unsafe situation if you need to accelerate to avoid obstacles on highway or surface street.in july, i took the car back to rallysport engineering for repair.it confirmed the shuddering problem but it could not identify the cause so it referred me to subaru orange coast (oc) because it has access to technical support from a dedicated subaru factory 'super-tech'.subaru oc kept my car for four days before returning to me.it could not identify my car problem, and instead, the mechanic staff told me i have differential and wheel bearing problems.i need to fix these two problems ($1012) before he can zero in on the transmission shuddering problem.i told the mechanic my car symptom is very repeatable and he should be able to duplicate and identify the problem without requiring me spending big money upfront.he was unable to help because there was no stored diagnostic code to guide him!i complained and shared information with subaru of america but no avail.

In april of 2017, the transmission completely and suddenly failed while traveling on i 35 southbound in iowa. (we were traveling around 60 miles an hour when the transmission failed) we had it towed to closest subaru dealer, who then denied the warranty. We were at approximately 59,000 miles and 2 months shy of the original transmission warranty. Even after they sent out letters less than 2 months later extending the warranty on the transmission to 100,000 miles they have continued to deny the warranty and have continued to blame the 3rd party who performed an oil change on the car. The party that performed the oil change is a well established ase certified company.they only performed an oil change and tire service they did nothing with the transmission.their refusal has dragged on for almost a year straining our finances. We are still in the process of litigation through our attorney. As a consumer we feel outmatched. It is incredibly frustrating especially since they have admitted that they have a transmission problem.yet they still refuse to fix or solve the problem in anyway and have hired a partner at an expensive law firm to continue to deny the warranty. How is the average consumer supposed to handle this type of situation? i have read in forbes magazine that consumer groups and your organization are aware of this problem but i wanted to make you further aware that even though they have admitted the problem they still continue to make it a problem for the consumer. Thank you

I've been experiencing intermittent issues with the transmission where the vehicle would shudder like it was about to shut off when braking.i've also experienced issues where after starting the vehicle and placing the vehicle into gear, the vehicle would lock up.i took my vehicle to a certified mechanic back in september 2018 who pointed me to a technical service bulletin addressing the same issues i was having: tsb 16-90-13r, and recommended i go to a subaru dealership for diagnostics, and repair potentially under extended warranty. I did take my vehicle and get a transmission flush which seemed to alleviate the issue.however, after taking my vehicle to my local subaru dealership, i was told they could not reproduce the issue, or see any related codes; there doesn't appear to be any record of this issue recorded except for a related warranty request for seat repair.now that i am experiencing this issue again, i took my vehicle back to the dealer.they gave me the same response and i escalated to soa asking for help getting this transmission repaired.their response was the same as the dealership's response - that they could not reproduce the issue, and they will not perform the repair.i feel this is a serious issue that could lead to injury or death while operating the vehicle.however, i am still experiencing the issue from time to time, and i do not feel that this vehicle is safe.my wife primarily drives this vehicle to take my children to and from school and other activities.the last time this issue occurred, the vehicle would not start at the gym, and i had to drop everything to go pick up my child from school.my wife was able to restart the vehicle after turning off the vehicle, waiting for a minute, and starting again.this issue seems to occur at low rpms regardless if it is parked, or on city streets or highways.

My 2012 subaru outback engine will shut off when coming to a complete stop when exiting a freeway, coming to a stop on a side street. Speed does not play a factor in this. This happens intermittently and clearly, is a safety issue! i never received a notification on this matter from subaru that there is a known defect with the torque converter in the transmission. This is something that should have been and still should be a recall. Fatalities could be a result of this!subaru needs to be held accountable and not just by extending the warranty.again this is a huge safety isuue!

The vehicle suddenly and unexpectedly stalls when coming to a rapid stop, such as approaching a stop sign or braking to avoid hitting the car ahead.when my cars stalls, i lose control which could very well lead to an accident.

Driving straight at 40mph, no acceleration or deceleration. Car without warning suddenly stopped, as if it had shifted into first gear and i had slammed on the brakes. When i pressed on gas the car would not move but did make revving sounds. I looked at gear shift and it was no longer in drive. I think it was in manual. I doubt i had accidentally moved the gear shift because i was not moving around in my seat and i was driving straight, not turning the steering wheel. This car is an automatic (cvt). I've only driven two miles since but it seems to be working fine now.

'went for a drive to run errands and then the transmission started shifting violently in the lower gears. After the third red-light, the transmission shifted so hard that the car shut off on me. After sitting on the side of the road for a while, i started the car again and drove it straight to the dealership. The dealership informed me that it was a cvt transmission issue, and subaru was aware of the issue. I was quoted to replace the transmission at $8000. In an effort to avoid a recall at all costs, subaru issued a warranty increase to 100,000 miles instead of 60,000 in direct response to the increasing complaints about the cvt transmission. The car has 103,000 miles so it is not covered under the warranty, i tried contacting subaru and they said 103,000 is over 100,000 sorry. What is interesting is that under the maintenance for transmission, it says no maintenance is required, to not even change the transmission fluid. If you tell your consumers that the cvt transmission does not require maintenance, and tell them not to change their fluid aren't you liable if the transmission fails?

My car would stall with a hard stop at an intersection or going uphill subaru reported that it was a bad torque converte, a bulletin notice was done for this by subaru.i feel this is a big safety issue any recalls should be done, due to a the car stalling with a drop in rpm and a potential accident could occur while trying to restart the car.thisoccurred numerous times between the months of march and may when i brought it to the dealership. I had vacuum hoses checked i have had engine spark plugs cleaned out and it was at this point generate 112,000 mile tuneup that they informed me the prom was the tour converter and they knew this was an issue.

While getting on an off ramp vehicle stalled going 45mph due to the valve body in transmission locking up. Subaru has knowledge of this issue and released a bulletin: 16-90-13r, but only will fix if the issue arises and not before.this issue does not gradually show up but rather happens all at once.

Vehicle shudders when coming to a stop and will stall when going from stopped to motion. Subaru replaced the torque converter 2 years ago and told us this would fix the issue and it did for a little while. The vehicle is now doing the exact same thing--stalling out is a safety issue. Subaru determined that it was once again a faulty/bad torque converter--so this seems like an issue with subaru torque converters. The first time, they admitted their mistake and paid for the repair. I asked them again to cover it and was even told on the phone by a subaru representative that the torque converter in a vehicle should not have gone bad the first time, much less the second time...but since my mileage is over their "goodwill" limit for the warranty extension, they will not fully cover the repar/replacement of the torque converter a second time (after having the new one for 2 years, only 45,000 miles.) i know that we are not the only consumers that this is happening too and as it is a known problem with their torque converters and a definite safety issue, my hope is that this will prompt a recall or in some way, have subaru fix their mistakes and not put it off on the consumer, as if we just happened to purchase a lemon or something.

Coming to a stop at stop sign, car stalled. No warning. Very dangerous in busy city.vehicle was breaking from 20mph to stop when stalled.

My 2012 subaru outback cvt transmission shutters and stalls the engine when coming to a stop in traffic.this is a known problem and i have contacted subaru od america and they are of no help.

Vehicle stalling while stopping or attempting to accelerate from a stop. There is a warranty extension on the cvt transmission, but only to 100,000 miles from subaru.this problem should be a recall, not only a warranty extension.it is a significant safety problem that could easily result in collision with injury or death.vehicle stalling when slowing down or accelerating from a stop.

Purchased a used 2012 subaru outback and about one year into owning it, it started to stutter when coming to a stop - as if it were a manual transmission and you did not push the clutch in. It will stutter and then completely die and you have to put the car back in park or neutral to start again. If braking quick or hard, it will always die. Gradual stops are better, but in the event you needed to stop fast and get out of the way - you cannot. Seems to be an extreme safety hazard to me and my family or anyone that would hit me because my car stalled, however, when contacting subaru, they do not feel it is an issue and want me to pay over $8000 to replace the entire transmission. The car has approximately 80,000 miles on it.i researched online and many, many people have the same issue with the 2010-2012 models and subaru issued a service bulletin #16-90-13 design change to lock-up type torque convertor - so they know there is an issue but did not make it a recall - though they also state they changed the assembly after 2012 because of the issues with the cvt transmissions. Also when researching, many other affected owners state only the torque converter was replaced and were charged anywhere from $1300 to $1800 to only replace that - and some stated subaru paid for it entirely, other say they refused to pay - the customer service person i spoke with at subaru stated they would only do a 'good will gesture of $2500 towards the entire transmission replacement.i owe $15,000 on the car, it's not worth that on bluebook and i do not have $5500 to pay for something i feel they should fix as a recall.

When the car is cold the transmission locks up when exiting the freeway from 60 mph to about 45 mphit is like the scar skipped a gear and you feel a big clunk during the exiting and like someone hit you in the back with a baseball bat. This can cause serious back injury and false sense of breaking.it does not do this all the time extremely intermittently and only when the car is cold and under certain conditions. Other subaru people are having the same issues from what i understand.this needs to be addressed by subaru corporate of america.also the dealer tried to reprogram the car and it did not work and the first incident occurred around nov 27, 2013. Computer reprogramming of the transmission did not fix this problem. Note to nhtsa, this is a very dangerous situation.

Purchased used with 150,000 miles on it. It started stalling and cutting off when braking at intersections or sudden stops but does not do it all the time. Has stalled out in traffic when stopped suddenly and have to quickly put it in park, start the engine again, put in drive and go before being rear ended. It has stalled at stop signs on inclines or declines, on a gravel drive way that goes uphill, behind cars that brake suddenly to where i have to quickly stop, or even moving slowly in a car line and then coming to a stop. Subaru is aware of this issue with legacy and outback models from 2010-2012 and has issued a service bulletin but not a safety recall. The cost to repair is anywhere from $1400 on up. If it is out of warranty like mine, they do not offer any assistance with price. This is a safety hazard when you vehicle cuts off in traffic and should be recalled.

I was setting the homelink mirror on my car to recognize a particular garage door opener.the mirror is powered so i needed to leave the car idling.i put the car in neutral and began the programming process.the last step in the process is to engage the garage door opener from the motor head.to prepare to do this, i exited the car and moved on foot into the garage to look for a step ladder.as i was searching for a step ladder and after a period of at least one full minute, the automatic transmission slipped into "drive" at which point the unoccupied car drove into the garage and hit the rear wall.

Failure of the torque converter caused transmission failure and required a complete overhaul at 82511. I was not informed by the dealership there was a service bulletin by the dealership.

When the car is cold and just started for the first time in the morning, when exiting a freeway from 60 mph the transmission very intermittently will almost freeze and it feels like someone hit you in the back with a baseball bat. This is exiting or during the de acceleration process and it feels like someone hit you in the back with a baseball bat. This can cause whip lash and cause serious back injury and give a person a false sense of braking on exiting the highway as the transmission freezes for the split second this is very dangerous and subaru of america has not addressed this issue. From subaru of america call center told me there are several technical bulletins regarding power train issues and was not sure if any were applied to my car. Took car into dealer they tried to reprogram the transmission and still have intermittent issues with the transmission locking up for a split second and shaking the whole, car, we are now afraid to drive this car because of these issues and we are afraid that we might end up going through the windshield. This is a very serious issues that only happens once in awhile and there is no way to predict, how, when or why this is happening and it is very scary to drive this car. We wish subaru would address this issue and do a recall or technical bulletindealer tried reprogramming transmission control and it still has issues and these are extremely intermittent issues with these incidents.

Vehicle stalls at red lights or stop signs. It also hesitates on acceleration. This is a very dangerous situation when having to restart the vehicle in heavy traffic.

The contact owns a 2012 subaru outback. The vehicle when slowing down and when stopped would suddenly stall without warning. The vehicle would immediately restart and the contact would be able to operate the vehicle as normal. The contact contacted the dealer (hanania subaru of orange park 6400 blanding blvd, jacksonville, fl 32244; (855) 851-7200) who stated that the transmission needed replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and opened a case regarding the matter. The approximate failure mileage was 166,000. Invalid vin. *ln

Vehicle stalls when coming to a stop. Almost felt like if i was coming to a stop without engaging the clutch on a standard transmission. This has happened 4 times in the last three days and i do not feel safe letting my family drive it!

Transmission jerks. Then the instrument panel lights are flashing. Trac control, brake loight and cruise light flashing. Check engine light on and will not pass inspection!checked internet and many years and models have same problem. Repair cost of parts alone over $900 happens while accelerating.

The car was running for about 20 to 30 minutes, the outside temperature was about 35 degrees and windy. Went and parked the car, return to the car, at night while it was still cold, started up and started driving the car for about a half hour and that is when it happened again.when exiting the freeway and the car goes from 60 mph to 45 mph and it is cold the transmission jerks and freezes and locks, and it feels like someone hit you in the back with a baseball bat. This has now happened several times.this can cause serious injury especially when the transmission locks up, and it can lead to a false sense of breaking and can deploy air bags.

The cvt transmission failed while traveling at a high speed down the interstate with no warning.after doing further research subaru is very aware of this cvt issues and has taken a very poor and limited approach to stand behind and fix this issue.they told me at the dealership that i was on my own to pay for the repair and it was a 10k fix.

Accelerating from a stopped position, or from a low speed as when making a turn or merging, the vehicle jerks and bucks, comes to a near stall at least once each time, more often 2 or 3 times in quick succession, until the vehicle gains more speed, approximately 10 mph, and the symptoms subside. Vehicle was driven out of necessity a maximum 20 miles on a few days since symptoms began, consistently bucking and near stalling in those conditions, causing traffic disturbances and endangering my family, myself, and other drives on the road. 4 days later the dash lights came on while driving-check engine, flashing emergency brake, traction control, flashing at temp oil-i immediately pulled off the road, bucking and near stalling all the way. Car was towed. Odb-ii codes were-transmission control malfunction, and torque converter clutch pressure control solenoid central circuit. Mechanic says can't drive the car. Background checking shows that instead of a recall, a warranty was put in place then due to the extent of the complaints on this, warranty was extended, and subaru refuses to take appropriate action to resolve this unsafe, expensive, and known issue. There is additionally a sulev emissions warranty which covers this, but it only goes to 150,000 miles and is not a safety issue.

Vehicle shudders and stalls when braking/decelerating. Engine shuts off completely and abruptly with little time to react. I have 128,000 miles on the vehicle. Mechanics do not know what exaclt is causing the problem.

Letter from senator klobuchar on behalf of constituent regarding subaru warranty complaint. *ldthe consumer stated the vehicle failed catastrophically while away on vacation.

While slowing down the vehicle has pulled (feeling like it is not shifting down ,for years, thought it was the nature of the beast) so had to brake harder. Since the summer of 2018 the car pulls and sometimes stalls or almost stalls when decelerating fast.this happens on highway and also city (between streetlights). I looked online and see that subaru has had a bulletin since 2014 knowing about a thrust washer wear problem inside the torque converter . 1-27-2019i took the outback in for service and the diagnosis was torque converter replacement. Estimated cost for repairs $1715.00.my wife and i not only had the standard subaru warranty but paid extra for the extended warranty,.all service was done at the subaru dealership ( stanley subaru ) and the last service before warranty expired in 2017 i specifically asked for the car to be gone though with a fine tooth comb (at that time we was concerned with noisy wheel bearings.no mention of the bulletin on the torque converter was mentioned.

Cvt failure causing random engine shut offs when stopping.

The vehicle stalled a few times in 2017 and 2018 while shifting from reverse to drive; and while coming from a stop, on steep hill, and releasing brake to get moving in traffic.it also shuddered randomly while transitioning gears from park to reverse/drive or reverse to dive and vice versa.i took it to the dealer who we purchased it from and they identified it as a transmission issue that can be resolved via an extended warranty.at the time the vehicle had about 70k miles.they replaced the torque converter, valve body and strainer in 2018.the car randomly shudders slightly between shifts from reverse to drive and vice versa, but the dealer who replaced the parts could not identify it.i took vehicle to another dealer who could also not replicate the issue.there was one time where it shook noticeable after exiting the freeway and coming to a stop but the car did not stall.in 2021, with the car approaching 97.5k in miles, stalled when i shifted from reverse to drive getting out of a parking spot on a busy street.it restarted after i put into park and was able to change gears and get out safely.i noticed it shudders when the engine is warm.sometimes it feels unsafe when i am trying to get out of a parking spot on a busy street or on a hill.i took it back to dealer who made the warranty repair.they could not replicate the issue.they cleaned the throttle body and found no codes on the ecu.they said they felt a slight shudder but that this is normal.they said i could take it for a second opinion but i did that already at another dealer previously.i spent hundreds of dollar to try to get a diagnosis but to no avail. I have properly maintained the car as recommended.it feels very strange that this continues to happen but the dealer cannot replicate and identify. Sometimes we feel unsafe or worried that it will stall at the wrong time.

Torque converter needing replaced after engine stall and/or dying at stop.

Vehicle occasionally stalls while stopped at a street light. Dealer says it is probably torque converter lockup. Has happened 3 times while waiting to make a left hand turn. Vehicle has 135k miles on it. Seems like a legitimate safety issue to me.

At 70,000 miles my car started stalling when coming to a stop or slowing down.shudders and stalls as i come to a stop. Very dangerous as it has stalled when i am driving up a hill, coming off a freeway, in bumper to bumper traffic.

The contact owns a 2012 subaru outback. While driving approximately 25 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 73,000.

The contact's wife owns a 2012 subaru outback. The contact stated that while driving and coming to a stop, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was restarted and operated as designed. The vehicle was taken to miller hill subaru located at (4710 miller trunk hwy, duluth, mn 55811, (218) 722-5337) to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the torque converter in the transmission failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 105,000.

Driver started car to cool it off before running errands. It was parked on the flat portion of the driveway. It was in park & i did not touch the gear shifter. I left the door open to assist in cooling the interior off more quickly and went to retrieve an item needed for the errands. When i heard a strang noice i turned around to find my car missing. It had reversed itself 180+ down the driveway, across our lawn & only stopped when it hit a 24'+ tree. When i reached the vehicle the gear shifter was still in park.inline towing had to winch it out, and noted that even though the had shifted it to neutral the back up lights were engaged.it has been towed to the auto body shop for repairs. Insurance has been notified.

My daughter was driving thisvehicle on highway and the car started shaking and stalled. Thank god the cars around her avoided hitting her. She could have easily been killed. We took it to dealership and they said the transmission failed. This car only has 117 thousand miles on it. I have looked and it seems like there have been a lot of transmission failures with this vehicle. Because of this they offered an extended warranty up to 100000 miles but nothing over this.and no recall.they should be forced to do a recall. This type of transmission failure is very dangerous especially when driving on thehigh way. It is also very expensive to fix we are being told it will cost 10000 dollars which we can not do. We are not covered under the extended warranty because it is over 100000 miles.

2012 subaru outback.consumer writes in regards to a high pitch squeal in vehicle while driving about 20 mph.the consumer stated the noise only occurred when the temperature dropped into the 40's and lower. Subaru of america declared the noise as normal without even examining the vehicle.the dealer, however, did hear the noise, but it was difficult to pinpoint the location. The consumer believed the problem was the automatic transmission or the drive mechanism.

The contact owns a 2012 subaru outback. While driving approximately 45 mph and reducing the speed to 20 mph, the vehicle stalled and shut off. The vehicle was taken to subaru of glendale (1308 s. Brand blvd, glendale, ca) where it was diagnosed that the torque converter was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and did not assist. The failure mileage was 162,000.

The contact owns a 2012 subaru outback. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled when coming to a stop without warning. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the torque converter needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 113,000. The vin was not available.

The contact owns 2012 subaru outback. The contact stated that while attempting to park the vehicle, the front driveshaft detached from the vehicle. The vehicle was not taken to be diagnosed nor repaired. The dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 90,000.

Air bag light is on (a02) faulty occupancy detection sensors in right front seat. Bottom seat frame would have to be replaced to resolve issues

We owned the car only 2 days and was out for our first drive owning our first brand new car.things seemed all good until we stopped at a bank and i put my left foot on the foot rest and pressed my back into the seat to release the tension in my pants so i could pull out my wallet when all the sudden catching me by total surprise the seat gave way.a shock went up and down my spine as i got out of the car in awe of what just happened an the condition i was in i had to sit in the passenger seat to see if it was just a fluke or is this a real problem and i just got the worst of it.with a little pressure leaning back in the seat for a few moments and snap all these seats can be broken. I was doing great and now everyday i have nerve problems and back issues i have never experienced in my life.i am height weight proportional and actually a little on the thin side.the dealership and subaru of america swore this never happened before. Google and youtube "subaru outback lumbar support broke" i found problems going back to 2008!!i asked them to buy the car back but they "bent the clip a little extra" as a fix and insisted i take it home. It broke again while just driving 40mph down the road normally so i convinced them by talking to the owner to give me a trade up to the electric seat.little to know the passenger seat is the same seat as in the basic model.i own the premium now and i will do a report on it as well as i have owned many foreign cars and not one seat has ever broke on me.toyota seat holds up to anything i put it through and i have 300k miles on it!!! same with my honda civic.both bought used...please make them fix this problem!i beg you.i hope no one else ever has to deal with the pains i have had from this along with stress explaining the situation to the dealer and due to such a simple little clip and stupidity.

The contact owns a 2012 subaru outback. The contact state that while driving at various speeds, the brake pedal was depressed and the traveled to the floor. The contact stated that the brake pedal was spongy while being depressed. The contact stated that the braking system was flushed however, the failure recurred. Ganley westside subaru (25730 lorain rd, north olmsted, oh 44070) (888) 798-5035) was contacted and informed of the failure. The contact was informed that the vin was not under recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact mentioned nhtsa campaign number: 11v562000 (service brakes, hydraulic) as a possible solution to the failure however, the vin was not included. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 82,000.

I have had the car a little over a year and have had trouble with the brakes since the beginning.several times upon cold startup the brakes barely work. Not always but frequently. I have to use both feet to push the pedal down to the floor and it travels several feet before stopping. I have brought it to the dealers attention several times, this last time, pushing them to keep the car to duplicate the results. They told me they could not find any problems with it and suggest that i warm the car up before moving it. I was not satisfied with that answer, t it is a safety issue, and suggest they take it higher up the chain. They kept it for a few more days and was able to duplicate the problem with my car and several on their lot. They tell me it is not a safety issue and it is just the way the car handles. The subaru national tech was out of the state and they told me they could not keep my car any longer to wait on the tech.they are closing the order and told me to come pick up my car at my convenience. I told them i was not satisfied and that i considered it a safety concern. They said i could pay extra and have some other brake options but on, but that the way it performs now is the way it is designed. Just in my driveway i could easily go over the hillside or hurt someone if the car would behave that way at an inopportune moment.

I was driving to work and applied the brakes to slow the vehicle while descending a hill and the pedal went almost down to the floor before the brakes took hold.i got the vehicle under control and proceeded toward the stop sign.i attempted to applied the brakes again and the vehicle went nearly through the intersection before i could get the car stopped.this happened at two more stop signs before i was able to pull into a parking spot at work.after the first stop sign incident, i drove very slowly to work, so as to not use the brakes but for stopping.a mechanic has looked at the car and determined the master cylinder is bad.the part number has been recalled for some vehicles, but not for my car, as determined by the vin.no warning lights are on.i had two other incidences, on different days, and weeks apart, where i was applying the brakes and went over bumps or holes in the road and brakes momentarily gave out, but after letting off the brake and reapplying pressure the brakes were normal again, and remained so for weeks until this latest episode.i had notified the mechanic at the earlier instances and they noted it might be a problem with my car-make.

On may 15th, while driving on a city street, dashboard warning lights came on indicating "brake" and "check engine".took it to a subaru dealer in berlin ct who found the following:"trouble code p0171/system to lean bank 1, fault traced and found vacuum leak around brake booster check valve. Vacuum valve cracked. Recommend replacing brake booster assembly".this vehicle has only 39,120 miles.this part is well protected within the engine area.service repair described the part as a small plastic piece and stated he's never seen this happen before.to my way of thinking, the part had to be defective when the engine was built.car was never in an accident and has always been maintained by subaru dealers.cost is a little over $700.00.i have the work order if you need it; but the wording above is directly from the order.is there a way to start an investigation showing this is a manufacturers fault? is there any way i can force subaru to pay for this?

Brake line failure. Burst under plastic gas tank cover.

Lights on the dashboard are on all the time brakes traction abs (anti brake system)about the same time my cruise control stopped working

Recall wvy-35 applies to some 2012 subaru outbacks. My 2012 subaru outback has this difficulty yet is not part of the recall.since i purchased the car the brake pedal has been soft and mushy.i need to press the pedal very hard for a long distance almost to the floor of the car to stop the vehicle.the stopping distance as a result is often much longer than expected.this is the exact problem identified in the recall below.i have brought this into my subaru dealer service center and i am told the brakes are operating normally, but they are not.subaru corporate headquarters tells me that my 2012 outback is not part of the recall.recall wvy-35 seems not to apply to very may cars and for outbacks is narrowly focused on dates of manufacture spanning only 36 days, when it clearly relates to a faulty master cylinder used in those cars and my car is affected but is not recalled.why isn't this recall more broad and relate to all cars with these master cylinders.we're talking about brakes here.do people have to die before bad brake systems are repaired?recall wvy-35 is cut and pasted below:subaru is recalling certain model year 2012 impreza sedans and wagons (except wrx/sti models), manufactured from april 21, 2011, through november 15, 2011, and legacy and outback vehicles manufactured from october 17, 2011, through november 23, 2011. These vehicles may be equipped with a brake master cylinder that could malfunction and cause an increase in the amount of brake pedal travel distance required to slow or stop the vehicle. Consequence: the driver might misjudge the amount of brake pedal travel required to achieve the desired stopping distance. This could occur unexpectedly and without prior warning, increasing the risk of a crash.

While traveling straight on i70 , 10 miles east of colby, ks at 75 mph, the electronic parking brake engaged causing the car to slow down and swerve. The brake light on the dash started flashing on the dash along with the check engine light and swerve light.i stopped the car and consulted the manual which indicated not to drive the car.the car had to be towed to a mechanic in colby.the mechanic was unable to fix the problem and the car was towed to denver subaru dealer, where it is now.

Brake line near rear passenger side wheel has corroded to the point where the line is leaking. This is a known issue on older models but this year does not have the recall on it.

Brake warning light flashes about every second or third time you start car. St austin flashing

Brakes failed on the highway and it appears to be the brake lines as outlined in a subaru brake line recall.of course i own a 2012 outback which was not covered and now have a very expensive repair bill.subaru and the nhtsa annouced that the recalled models include the model year 2008 to 2011 impreza, 2008 to 2014 wrx and sti and 2009 to 2013 forester crossover suv. All affected cars are currently or were formerly registered in the snowy states, where salt is applied to the roads.it was duly noted that these vehicles were previously subjected to another safety campaign, which was given the 14v-311 recall number.

The rear 3rd high brake light leaks every time it rains.this happens both when the car is stationary or moving.it has been doing this every time that it rains for about the last 6 months.i have seen numerous complaints on forums for the same problem.

Brake line corroded. This is a known subaru issue, but recalls have not affected the 2012 outback as of yet; wanted to report this as a possible safety issue. Car is in a snowy region but all routine maintenance regularly taken care of.

Rear brake line on passenger side is corroded and leaking badly.

The contact owns a 2012 subaru outback. The contact stated that while driving approximately 35 mph, the brake pedal was depressed and hesitated to respond without warning. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the abs master cylinder was fractured and needed to be replaced.the vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 100,000. The vin was not available.

The contact owns a 2012 subaru outback. The contact stated that while their son was driving approximately 10 mph, when the driver attempted to apply the brake pedal however the brakes failed. The driver had to drop the vehicle into first gear then crashed into the curb where it came to a stop. The air bags did not deploy. The contact stated that the driver received a chest injury however there was no medical attention needed. The rear passengers all of which were children were not injured but all car seats needed to be replaced. The vehicle was towed. A police report was not filed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer (walker motors inc 265 river st, montpelier, vt 05602;(802) 229-0391) who diagnosed the brake line had corroded. The vehicle's brake line was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and confirmed that their vin was not included in any recall. The approximate failure mileage was 112,000.

I was driving the car when the brake pedal travel distance suddenly changed on me, which required me to apply more pressure to stop the car.very alarming at the time and if i were not an experienced driver may have caused an issue.the issue resolved itself briefly but has now remained in it current state, making it difficult to judge what brake pressure to apply -- a definite safety concern.until i can get this issue fixed, i had to keep the car parked.i took the car in for an immediate diagnosis.shop said the brake master cylinder appears to be failing.they also advised me that this was under a subaru recall, however, when asking a nearby subaru dealer, they said the recall didn't apply.i found that troubling since the recall affects 2012 subaru models and is a very concerning safety issue if not resolved.(note:i uploaded the recall printout that outlines the issue).

Drove down a short hill under icy road conditions.vehicle accelerated toward the bottom of the hill.applied brakes but the anti-lock system did not work to stop the car.luckily, did not crash into the approaching barrier.had two (2) children with me.no one was injured.told dealer about this and that there was a service bulletin.was told that they did not receive one from nhtsa.

Rear brake pads needed replacedat 21000 miles( highly unusual wear). Front pads at 50%--rear pads less than 10%. Requested dealer to replace pads and rotors. They refused to replace rotors and informed me that all they would do would be resurface rotors and replace pads. Work order states that rotors were resurfaced. Inspection of rotors after, determined that the rotors had not been resurfaced. I suggested to dealer to check abs and ebd system to determine if they bias of the brakes was correct due to the unusually low mileage on rear pads and normal wear on front pads .they refused to check this and now the rear brakes are making a grinding noise.

Flashing brake light and ebrake is not engaging. I checked to see if there is a stuck drum brake by jacking up and rotating both rear rotors. Both rotors move freely. I checked online and there was recall on 2012 models but not on mine (2012 outback, 3.6 limited. It is driving okay but i am afraid to take it on highways. Last year brake lining thickness on all four tires were 7mm (subaru dealership) and i only drove a maximum of 10000 miles. Is it possible that other users face the same problem and there is an issue with ebrake system too.

The contact owns a 2012 subaru outback.the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign id number: 11v562000 (service brakes, hydraulic:pedals and linkages) and had the vehicle repaired by an authorized dealer. After the repairs, the vehicle would exhibit an abnormal clicking noise when applying the brakes.the dealer was notified of the failure, but denied any assistance with repair to the vehicle.the manufacturer was not made aware of the issue.the vehicle was not repaired.the failure mileage was 1,464 and the current mileage was 1,500.

On may 2, 2014, attempted to move the subject vehicle from the garage and the car would not move forward or reverse, as the brakes where totally locked.the car was moved to lee subaru, fort walton beach, fl by car transport, where i was told the parking brake module was defective due to damage and was not covered by warranty. In may 2012, i was forced to drive over a tire tread in order to avoid an accident at 70 mph.the tread bounced off the under carriage of the car.the brakes worked for 24 months after this incident without problem until may 2, 2014.there had been heavy rain in the area at this time (april 29-30, 2014) and possibly water had entered the module causing the problem. I consider this a problem due to subaru locating a delicate electronic component controlling brake function in a location subject to all normal road hazards, rocks, ice, snow, rain, debris, etc., especially so despite marketing images of a "rugged outdoors off road auto" cross country in australia, driving over riverbed rocks and gravel, snow, ice, etc.this component should be located within the auto envelope, under the seat not exposed under the auto, protected by a piece of "dollar store" plastic. I have been informed by the lee subaru service manager that this module affects only the parking/emergency brake.i cannot verify this claim without a detailed schematic.never the less, i have reservations concerning the brakes being applied with no driver input with a potentially disastrous effect.

This 2012 vehicle presented issues from the first day of ownership. After 4 repair attempts i worked out a replacementwith subaru of north america by sharing the depreciation loss out of desperation.we replace it with a 2013 outback identical to the 2012 except for color.. The problem with the steering in the 2012and the 2013 is that both the vehicle wander all over the road. You need to keep all your attention on keeping it following the road causing extreme fatigue. It is described by me as heavy, does not return to center and in even slight turns the car suddenly pulls in the direction you are traveling which is startling like hitting black ice. Taking your eyes to even the side mirrors for lane changes offers the vehicle to invite itself into oncoming traffic.this replacement 2013 i now have started presenting these symptoms after about the first 500 miles. There is a threadon the matter on the subaruoutback.org forum with over 450 replies on the matter. Http://www.subaruoutback.org/forums/104-gen-4-2010-present/31638-ob-lane-wandering.htmlthe responseson page 45 describe the problem pretty well. My responses are under joem.one response #442 was "and now, at 17 months & 25k mis, we still have a 'new' car that steers like a drunk pushing a shopping cart with a bad wheel..." how sad is that?please, look into the matter because if someone didn't get hurt already someone will. The last 60 mile drive was unbelievably exhausting. This is now my third subaru so i am not new to subaru and/or awd. Or first was a 2006 forester and after 5.5 years and 60,000 it was flawless but we out grew its size. I offer your organization the opportunity to inspect and drive my vehicle to personally experience what i am describing. I can afford to trade this car at anytime but i do not want to see anyone to get hurt of lose their life.thank you

I was driving on a interstate highway when the rear of the car started to wander from right to left, it acted like it was floating on the highway.i took the next exit to check for a tire losing air pressureor looselug nuts. They were fine. I slowed down to50 -55 mph for the rest of the trip.every bridge and overpass i slowed down to 50 mph and yet the rear of the vehicle would jump side ways.the highway was wet from a recent snowfall, apparently there was some ice on the road. Other cars/truckswere going at 65 mph+. . i have never felt that "floating" in my 45 years of driving thru snow and ice.

The contact owns a 2012 subaru outback. The contact stated that while driving 50 mph, while driving over a bump the steering wheel would shake violently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection and they stated that there was nothing abnormal. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure who decided to send a technician to test drive the vehicle. The technician stated that the vehicle was fine. The failure mileage was 100.

When i was driving in a highway, the car lost power steering suddenly

Steering wheel locked-up while attempting to turn left in an intersection.the light turned green and my wife pulled forward about 10 to 15 feet and began turning the wheel for a left turn. However, the wheel would not budge to the left. She screamed out (to me) that the car would not turn left and we found ourselves perilously in the center of the intersection with cars blowing their horns. She did move the wheel to the right and we sort of circled in the intersection. Following this the car did resume normal steering and the problem did not repeat since. The next day (monday) the car went to the garage where subaru said they looked it over completely but could not find a cause or the problem. Despite my concerns they insisted all is well and to return if this occurs again.

While driving the car on a major highway the car was out of control. We had only 2 inches of snow during the day, the hwy. Was mostly clear except for some packed snow because of cold temps. But it was mostly clear. We could not keep the car going straight, it was constantly swerving. We could not go more than 45 mph. All the other traffic was going at normal speed. Nobody was swerving or spinning out. We were definitely a safety hazard on the hwy because everybody had to slam on the brakes behind us and then go around. We had to exit at the next off ramp. Even when coasting down hill the car was swerving out of control. I have never operated a vehicle like this before, we are very lucky that nobody rear-ended us or that we put the car in a ditch. This is a very severe problem. Also i mentioned this to 3 separate employees at the dealership, 2 are managers and 1 is a service tech and all 3 said they never heard of "ghostwalking". What a pile of crap!

Stiff/tight steering without much feel, and lane wandering, and trouble keeping the car centered in the lane due to bad center feel.

Wanders, very difficult to hold straight line at highway speeds.dangerous, very touchy stering.

My 2012 suburu outback was stopped at a gas station in neutral and i got out of the car. My wife turned the engine off and the car started to roll backward. I could not get back into the car in time and my wife could not pull the emergency brake because subaru did not put an emergency brake into that model that year. They have since corrected that design flaw. The car rolled backward across a road and onto a concrete island and over a rock which damaged the exhaust system. This accident could have been much worse and not having an emergency brake troubles me. I think the very least subaru should do would be to repair the damage done by not having an emergency brake in the car.

When driving on the highway the vehicle exhibits very poor straight line stability.vehicle wanders within the lane and requires excessive steering wheel correction to maintain straight direction. Vehicle 500 miles on it (350 driven by owner) but is now sitting in driveway for fear of personal safety if emergency maneuver is necessary on the highway.

Our vehicle has 162,000 miles. The valve body transmission has to be replaced due to known defect of this make, model, and year vehicle. This has been and continues to be a problem for these vehicles with no recall made.

I have just been told today that will need a new cvt transmission for my 2012 outback.this is a common problem for subaru during this model year.instead of issuing a recall, they have chosen to give a limited extended warranty on this issue.they have not owned up to the problem and are not helping customers out with this issue. What assurance do i have that a new subaru won't have the same issue?i enjoyed by outback and am very disappointed with this outcome.i have taken it for regular servicing and don't abuse a vehicle and it has been reliable to this point. Please advise as to why won't own up to this issue and issue a recall for this common problem. They currently have in place an extended warranty of 100,000 for this issue.i dare say very few subarus are on the road after nine years with less than 100,000.

For almost 1.5 years, my 2012 subaru outback is experiencing shuddering and stalls when coming to a stop resulting in the engine shutting off. It occurs randomly and i nearly got in accidents with drivers behind me having to react to the sudden, full stops.

When approaching a stop, the engine dies. I'm afraid i will be rear ended. The dealership thought it might be a low battery so i replaced it and it still does a stutter then dies. If i let off of the break, sometimes that keeps it from stalling. Very concerning in traffic. Has been happening for 6 months.

Key is stuck in ignition and will not come out.vehicle has to be re-started, moved back and forth 3-4 times before key will come out.this appears to be a common problem with many subarus, there are a variety of quick-fix videos online and countless complaints in automotive forums.subaru is definitely aware of the problem.

The earliest date for schedule of recall is august.does that seem sensible if the problem is serious?the solution to solve the large number of people needing remediation is requiring addition staff to keep the service department open, around the clock, if necessary.

I bought my car used at the end of 2015. In 2017 my subaru outback began make a whistling sound when the brakes were applied and also began to shake at a low idle before stopping the car. I took it to a subaru dealership and had it inspected but they just determined it was the brakes and changed them out. In 2018 my subaru began to shake even more violently, almost as if another vehicle behind me had bumped into me, and then would stall out. This appeared more so on hills at first and then started happening on flat surface roads. I went back to my subaru dealership who again ran my vin and inspected the vehicle but determined "could not duplicate the issue". $900.00+ later i went on my way only to have it continuously happen more and more. I was at 90,490 miles at the time i got my 90k mile servicing done. I had asked the servicing department if there was anything reported on my vehicle that i needed to be aware of. They stated that nothing popped up in their system. I never received a recall or safety warning letting me know that there is a huge concern for cvt to the point of extending the coverage automatically. I am not a mechanic. I dont know what codes to look for or what lingo to give them other than my exact problem and trust that they did the research and performed the correct protocol. I just did the research and had they read the bulletin for 16-90-13r they would have seen for my specific make model and year of car that it states "customer may experience sensation like coming to a stop in a manual transmission equipped vehicle and failing to depress the clutch". In other words, stalling. I would also say 16-104-17 applies as well but the year does not add up with my vehicle. I have a special needs son who needs therapy daily and this is my daily driver. I'd like that to be highlighted in the event of our death due to not being able to have this remedied.

Car keeps overheating. Needed head gaskets - two times within 2 1/2 years! that part shouldn't have to be replaced once never mind twice.

Re: service bulletin no.: sb-15-159-13 component(s): structure nhtsa id number: 10051619right front wheel seems to be coming in contact with the mud/splash guard and making a noise when going in reverse and with the wheel turned to the far right. Body shop has not been able to correct this. This still continues to occur since early january, 2015. Problem replicates the above sb # and nhtsa id#.

Cvt transmission / torque converter.my vehicle is just over 100k and subaru won't cover the full repair.my car has stalled in very dangerous situations on the highway and intersections. Local dealer has confirmed that the torque converter / cvt needs repaired. It's terrible to know that nhtsa won't issue a formal recall waiting for fatalities to force the decision.

My key will not come out of the ignition properly. Takes 30 minutes sometimes. I cannot leave my car with the key in the ignition. Maintenance rep says there is a tsb addressing this known issue, but will not be fixed unless i pay $700+ to replace the entire shift assembly. Something about the park indicator is known to not engage properly. How can they charge customers this outrageous amount, when they know there is a defect in the shift assembly and has been since 2010. This has been occurring for over six months in my vehicle and is getting worse each time. The internet is filled with subaru owners of all makes, models, and years with the same problem.

On 28 december while driving at approximately 50 mph with 3 people in 2012 subaru outback, the sunroof spontaneously shattered.no one was hurt during the incident. I took the car to the dealership who indicated no recall on the vehicle.subaru customer service sent me a coupon for $200 towards repair.thought this was a one-time anomaly, but on 07 january (10 days later) the window on driver's door spontaneously shattered with two of us in the car while on the highway at a speed of approximately 60mph.neither of us were hurt.the vehicle is in the shop and subaru has offered $150 towards repair costs. Once again no recalls are in effect.

When i slow and stop at a stop sign or stop light my car randomly stops. It will restart but this has caused dangerous situations for me and my family as this is usually unexpected. I have noticed it getting worse and thus far i can't isolate the issue other then reading bulletins( bulletin number 16-90-13r ). My local fix it shop and subaru don't seem to give us a reason.

I bought this card at the end of march and only for one week it registered the car got fired and burnedwhile driving last friday around 10pm. When i checked the vin#. This car has over 16 recalls

This happens randomly, not just once but several times i lost count already. Driving on a city street, i always get nervous when i would slow down due to a stop sign or red light because the car would stall by the time i come to a full stop. The engine would first feel like it's gonna die, then would jerk a little and then finally die. Starting the car back on has no issues -- the car turns on normally. I taken to the dealer and they connat replicate the issue.

Lights on the dashboard are on all the time brakes traction abs (anti brake system)about the same time my cruise control stopped working

This happens randomly, not just once but several times i lost count already. Driving on a city street, i always get nervous when i would slow down due to a stop sign or red light because the car would stall by the time i come to a full stop. The engine would first feel like it's gonna die, then would jerk a little and then finally die. Starting the car back on has no issues -- the car turns on normally.already brought it to the dealership for servicing and was told may just be idling issue. They said they fixed it but still experiencing it randomly. Hesitant to bring it back for i was told that the next time, it might cost me a thousand or more to fix it.

Vehicle stopped cruise control & flashed brakes & no traction control unexpectedly. Came close to a wreck shutting the vehicle down on the side of the road hitting various tire recaps & debris on the side. Of the road. Not told that this is a regular occurrence with this vehicle.

The contact owns a 2012 subaru outback. The contact stated that the cruise control switch malfunctioned. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technician was unable to diagnose the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 10 and the current mileage was 21,000. Updated 10/7/14the consumer stated when the cruise control is set and the vehicle is traveling faster than the set point, upon selecting resume the vehicle will reset to the current speed. The driver expected the vehicle to decelerate to the originally set speed. Updated 3/25/2015

While driving approx. 60 mph on highway, 5/12/19, in light rain/mist with mild temps around 50 degrees f., i heard a sudden "bam!" and thought my windshield was shot at by a shotgun but it wasn't. Kept driving but heard a swooshing of air sound. All windows were up so i slid the shade panel open to see the sunroof and saw a hole the shape of tennessee in the middle of the sunroof with the glass around the hole pointing upward....as though it was a forced explosion from the inside out. No broken glass or foreign object was found laying inside the shade panel. No rock or meteorite was seen flying my way while driving. Either an object fell from the sky directly into the center of my sunroof or the sunroof exploded on its own.

The contact owns a 2012 subaru outback. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 16v694000 (visibility); however, the part to do the recall repair was not available. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.

I recently purchased a vehicle from mastria subaru of raynham ma. It hada crack in the windshield that was in the drivers direct view of the road.it initially failed inspection for this ,we were told to come back to have it fixed.they did very little but make the problem worse.then they passed it for inspection, when i asked the service manager he said it was our problem have your insurance fix it.now we have a vehicle that is very hard to drive because there is a crack in front of the driver.is there anything that can be done to resolve this problem?i know from being a ny state inspector for 10 years thatis not passable and is a danger to the driver.

My windshield wipers suddenly turned on even though they were in the off position. There was no way to turn them off except to pull the fuse under the hood. This creates a very unsafe condition. Leaving the wipers running on a dry windshield also can damage the wipers and windshield. I found a service bulletin from subaru (attached) that describes a switch where moisture and grease caused the switch to short. The switch had been redesigned. I paid 150.00 to have the switch replaced. This should be a safety recall.

I called prestige subaru, in asheville, nc in january, 2017 and was told they did not have the part to replace the "windshield wiper motor bottom cover" at that time; they had to order the part.okay.so i made an appointment approximately 3 weeks in advance, for thursday february 9th.a couple days before that, a lady from the service department called to say the part did not come in, so there was no need to come for the appointment; and she would call us for another appointment when it did come in.i guess i learned that it takes subaru dealers a long time to get parts, because as of march 20th, 2017, the day i write this, she nor anyone else has called to schedule another appointment.two or three weeks passed and i phoned the service department and asked for the service manager's name and phone number.i phoned his number and had to leave a message for him to phone me back at my phone number, which he has not done to this current date.needless to say, i will not take my car to prestige subaru for any kind of service.excuses of, i didn't get the message, or, i lost his number, or, we have no record him calling, etc., will not substitute for honest truthfulness.just now that i have another recall notice on another part, i will schedule an appointment at another dealership.
